- 2:11Speaker 3: event to war. It's called the Taste of Nitro, some
- 2:13Speaker 3: of the finer foods around. It's actually a big fundraiser.
- 2:16Speaker 3: Joe Stevens will join us to talk about that. Plus
- 2:18Speaker 3: something I haven't done in a while on a Friday,
- 2:20Speaker 3: I got some things in the news I want to

- 2:30Speaker 3: or so, this morning rest of the show is simply
- 2:31Speaker 3: going to be yours open lines. I hate to use
- 2:33Speaker 3: the term open lines on Friday because everybody uses open

- 3:03Speaker 3: it all right. So it is Friday, so that means
- 3:05Speaker 3: we have our dop me please Pet of the Week
- 3:07Speaker 3: from the Kennal Charlest Humane Association. No Hannah Gardner this week.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Hannah is in a training session. I understand. What do
- 3:13Speaker 3: we do have, Angie Gildenwater from the Humane Association? What
- 3:17Speaker 3: does Angie? Good morning, welcome to the show.
- 3:19Speaker 4: Good morning.
- 3:21Speaker 3: You got some big shoes to fill you know with
- 3:23Speaker 3: Hannah because she's become a star. You know that right.
- 3:26Speaker 4: I know every time she asked me to fill in
- 3:28Speaker 4: for I get a little bit nervous. I could never
- 3:30Speaker 4: compare to hand.
- 3:32Speaker 3: You'll do fine, You'll do fine, I'm sure all right.
- 3:34Speaker 3: So as always as I said, I've got the picture
- 3:37Speaker 3: posted at Dave Island Radio and Facebook of our pet
- 3:40Speaker 3: of the week and also at Dave seventy on Twitter.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Tell us all about Avalon and Hannah. In text to
- 3:46Speaker 3: me last night, said that she Avalon is your favorite?
- 3:50Speaker 3: Is that right?
- 3:51Speaker 4: That is correct? Hannah said, who should we do this week?
- 3:54Speaker 4: And I said, well, that's an easy one. So Avalon
- 3:58Speaker 4: is about three years ago old. She's already microchipped and vaccinated,
- 4:03Speaker 4: treated for fleas dewormed. She hasn't been sade yet, but
- 4:07Speaker 4: that's in the plans for Avalon. She came to CASEYHA
- 4:11Speaker 4: as a stray. She's best with calmer dogs. She gets
- 4:15Speaker 4: over stimulated very easy, which I understand. Sometimes she has
- 4:19Speaker 4: to take a little cool off break around other dogs.
- 4:22Speaker 4: So if you do have other pets at home, and
- 4:24Speaker 4: probably be best to bring your pet for a meet
- 4:26Speaker 4: and greet. But the other thing about Avalon is she
- 4:29Speaker 4: is just like all of our community engagement team at CASEYCHA.
- 4:33Speaker 4: She's super friendly, social butterfly, and she loved, loved, loved,
- 4:38Speaker 4: loved all cats, toys, any type of toys, squeaky toy stuff, toys,
- 4:42Speaker 4: She's obsessed with it, and.
- 4:44Speaker 3: She loves cats. Is that what you said.
- 4:47Speaker 4: No, I would assume Avalon to probably not do well.
- 4:50Speaker 3: I thought you said cats. I'm sorry I must have
- 4:52Speaker 3: misunderstood you. But she does love her squeaky toys. We
- 4:55Speaker 3: do know that.
- 4:55Speaker 4: Oh my goodness, love toys.
- 4:57Speaker 3: Love them. What kind of dog is avalon any do you?
- 5:01Speaker 4: I would say she's probably a bully mix in the
- 5:05Speaker 4: bully family somewhere. She's got kind of like a smushy
- 5:08Speaker 4: face and a really stout body. Uh So I would
- 5:11Speaker 4: definitely say bully mix.
- 5:13Speaker 3: What what? Why is it? It seems that we have
- 5:15Speaker 3: a different pet every week on the show, and you know,
- 5:17Speaker 3: I never know what is going to be to Hannah
- 5:18Speaker 3: normally text me on Thursday night and tells me. But
- 5:21Speaker 3: why do we seem to is it just me? Let
- 5:24Speaker 3: me ask you the question. You're the expert. Is it
- 5:26Speaker 3: just me? Or does it seem we get a whole
- 5:28Speaker 3: lot of of animals to the shelter that have a
- 5:32Speaker 3: little bit of bully in them?
- 5:35Speaker 4: So we definitely do have a lot of bully mixes
- 5:38Speaker 4: that I will say, Uh, the shelter isn't just for
- 5:41Speaker 4: bully or bullies or bully mixes. We have our fair
- 5:44Speaker 4: share of hounds. We've seen German shepherds, French bulldogs, Saint
- 5:49Speaker 4: Bernard's Doberman's and that's just this year. So it does
- 5:53Speaker 4: seem like we do have a lot of bullies, but
- 5:55Speaker 4: a little bit of everything does come through the door.
- 5:58Speaker 3: Well, and I think it's very important in Hannah, I
- 6:00Speaker 3: talk about this every week, is that if you are
- 6:02Speaker 3: looking to get a pet, whether dog or cat or
- 6:04Speaker 3: whatever it is, you got to look at yourself a
- 6:07Speaker 3: little bit before you look at the pet, and you
- 6:09Speaker 3: got to realize, Okay, where do I live? Do I
- 6:11Speaker 3: live in a small apartment? Do I live in an
- 6:14Speaker 3: area that it's going to be conducive to having a
- 6:16Speaker 3: dog that likes to run and likes an area to play.
- 6:20Speaker 3: Because if you've got to have a dog chained in
- 6:22Speaker 3: the backyard, then number one, you're the worst human being
- 6:24Speaker 3: that ever lived. But number two, you simply don't do that.
- 6:27Speaker 3: You know, you don't get a goldfish if that's you.
- 6:30Speaker 3: If that's the case, but sometimes owners need to kind
- 6:34Speaker 3: of take stock of themselves, I think, or potential pet
- 6:37Speaker 3: owners before they choose a pet. Would you agree with that?
- 6:41Speaker 4: Yeah, definitely would agree. You got it. You don't necessarily
- 6:44Speaker 4: have to know what works for you. That's kind of
- 6:46Speaker 4: what we're here for, right Yeah.
- 6:48Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 6:48Speaker 4: If you're not sure what works for you, and you're
- 6:51Speaker 4: not sure what kind of lifestyle you're living right now,
- 6:53Speaker 4: come talk to us. We have a full behavior team
- 6:56Speaker 4: that would love to help you kind of match make
- 6:58Speaker 4: and pick out what would work. But I would definitely
- 7:01Speaker 4: suggest if you are looking into getting a pet, you
- 7:03Speaker 4: definitely want to get something that does work for your lifestyle,
- 7:07Speaker 4: just in order to keep you and the.
- 7:09Speaker 5: Pet happy exactly.
- 7:11Speaker 3: We're talking to ange Gilan Water from The Canal Charleston.
- 7:13Speaker 3: You made association about avalone are adopt me please? Pet
- 7:16Speaker 3: of the Week to Dave Alan Show on five at
- 7:19Speaker 3: Live Brughight to you part by Hustand's Pizza this month
- 7:21Speaker 3: it's your favorite Hustans get a large a tenache Pepperoni
- 7:23Speaker 3: pizza and anate inch chocolate chip cookie for only twenty
- 7:26Speaker 3: three ninety nine. I noticed and you guys do this
- 7:29Speaker 3: around the first of the month. You always on your
- 7:32Speaker 3: and by the way, I always compliment you know, Hannah,
- 7:34Speaker 3: And I know you folks do a fantastic job in
- 7:36Speaker 3: your social media. But I want to go over the
- 7:38Speaker 3: numbers for the shelter in July because you post those
- 7:42Speaker 3: every month and it kind of gives I think the
- 7:44Speaker 3: public and idea of how much work goes into what
- 7:48Speaker 3: you do there.
- 7:50Speaker 4: Yeah, so I know a lot of people it's getting
- 7:53Speaker 4: kind of redundant at this point hearing us say, oh
- 7:55Speaker 4: we're full. We needed optors, we need fosters, we need donations.
- 7:58Speaker 4: But it just it's literally just however many we send
- 8:02Speaker 4: out the door into homes, just about double of the
- 8:05Speaker 4: is coming in. So in the month of July alone,
- 8:10Speaker 4: just July, we brought in two hundred and thirty one cats,
- 8:12Speaker 4: two hundred and forty nine dogs, and two gerbils.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Two gerbils. What was the story there?
- 8:19Speaker 4: So our CU Maine officer brought them in. I didn't
- 8:21Speaker 4: get the full background, but I do know that they
- 8:24Speaker 4: were taken from a home that had been left abandoned.
- 8:27Speaker 4: So they have since been relocated to the south Ridge
- 8:31Speaker 4: pac CoA if anyone is interested in adopting them, just
- 8:35Speaker 4: because Southridge pat Cot can provide much better care than
- 8:37Speaker 4: what we're able to at the shelter.
- 8:39Speaker 3: And I want to talk about this is something that
- 8:41Speaker 3: we hear from time to time in Canal County, but
- 8:43Speaker 3: we certainly hear it across the country. And I don't
- 8:45Speaker 3: know how you put an endo this and this is
- 8:48Speaker 3: these animal hoarder situations. You hear these horror stories. And
- 8:52Speaker 3: again we've had our fair share here in the Kanaal
- 8:54Speaker 3: Valley but it happens all over the country. People just say, well,
- 8:57Speaker 3: and I heard actually one of the stories that came
- 8:59Speaker 3: out from swear in the state. I don't exactly Riverwear,
- 9:02Speaker 3: but the Humane Association there was saying that people have
- 9:08Speaker 3: a tendency and thing, well, I can take one more dog,
- 9:10Speaker 3: or I can take one more cat. Probably well intentioned,
- 9:14Speaker 3: but these things can get horrific from time to time.
- 9:18Speaker 4: Angie, correct. So you know, there are quite a few
- 9:22Speaker 4: people I know that have double digits of animals and
- 9:25Speaker 4: they provide excellent care for them. And if you're able
- 9:27Speaker 4: to meet the animal's needs while also not overwhelming yourself,
- 9:31Speaker 4: that's great, wonderful for you. But I think one thing
- 9:34Speaker 4: that certainly helps, that would help eliminate animal hoarding situations
- 9:39Speaker 4: is definitely effective Spain hooter laws or Spain nooter requirements
- 9:44Speaker 4: for certain cities, because most of the time the animal
- 9:47Speaker 4: hoarding situations that we'll see happen because somebody had, you know,
- 9:51Speaker 4: two unaltered male and female, and then it just explodes
- 9:55Speaker 4: into being overwhelmed. They have babies, and their babies have babies,
- 9:59Speaker 4: and then the baby babies have babies. So that's usually
- 10:03Speaker 4: what the main cause is whenever we see hoarding situations.
- 10:07Speaker 4: So I think having a stay hooter as available as
- 10:11Speaker 4: possible and requiring stay hooter for certain areas would certainly
- 10:15Speaker 4: help with those situations.
- 10:16Speaker 3: And speaking of which it kind of goes a little
- 10:18Speaker 3: bit a bit of a transition here. I did read
- 10:20Speaker 3: that you have an event coming up this week with
- 10:22Speaker 3: Fixed Charleston.
- 10:23Speaker 4: Is that right correct? Fix Charleston is offering low cost
- 10:28Speaker 4: vaccines at a drive through vaccine clinics. You don't even
- 10:31Speaker 4: have to get out of your vehicle. It's as easy
- 10:34Speaker 4: as possible. It's Wednesday, August seventh, eleven am at the
- 10:38Speaker 4: Big Lots on the west side of Charleston.
- 10:40Speaker 3: And that's just for vaccinations though, right.
- 10:43Speaker 4: Vaccinations and microchips if you live within Yeah, if you
- 10:46Speaker 4: live within city limits of Charleston, those are free to you.
- 10:50Speaker 4: If you live outside of city limits, they are still
- 10:53Speaker 4: at a low cost. Microchips will be twenty five and
- 10:56Speaker 4: your baby vaccines will be ten.
- 10:58Speaker 3: All right, well, I and again you can talk to
- 11:01Speaker 3: the folks about Fix Charleston. And there are various organizations
- 11:04Speaker 3: around the city and around the valley that do when
- 11:07Speaker 3: it is time to get them fixed, that they will
- 11:10Speaker 3: take care of that for you. But the vaccinations and
- 11:12Speaker 3: the micro chipping is also a very very big part
- 11:14Speaker 3: of it as well. Anything you're in need of at
- 11:17Speaker 3: the shelter right now before we let you goides besides
- 11:20Speaker 3: more space, Oh yeah.
- 11:22Speaker 4: Well yeah, we are definitely in need of fosters and adopters.
- 11:25Speaker 4: But if you're not in a position to foster our
- 11:28Speaker 4: adopt right now, that's okay. We're still in need of
- 11:30Speaker 4: Urina chow products, blanket sheets, towels, Leasha's callers, toys and
- 11:36Speaker 4: cleaning supplies. So if you have any of that to donate,
- 11:40Speaker 4: please do so. We would be super super grateful and
- 11:42Speaker 4: the animals would be grateful as well.
- 11:44Speaker 3: All right, we'll let you go. I appreciate you being here, Angie,
- 11:48Speaker 3: thanks a lot, and have a great weekend.
- 11:50Speaker 5: Keep doing what you do, no problem.
- 11:52Speaker 4: Thank you so much for having me.
- 11:53Speaker 3: Angie gillen Water again from the Canal Charles Reumaine Association.
- 11:57Speaker 3: Let's review. Avalon is our beautiful buy full dog, three
- 12:00Speaker 3: year old female, not fixed yet but will be. She
- 12:03Speaker 3: is microchipped and vaccinated. She came in as astray, very
- 12:08Speaker 3: very fond of calmer dogs, and they say that because
- 12:12Speaker 3: she gets really really hyper, and you know, if you've
- 12:15Speaker 3: got a dog that's you know, a little bit hyper itself,
- 12:18Speaker 3: that could that could create some issues in your house,
- 12:21Speaker 3: in your art, So probably calmer dogs would be better.
- 12:24Speaker 3: Gets along great with all other dogs though, loves her toys.
- 12:27Speaker 3: She does pull slightly on her leash, but that certainly
- 12:31Speaker 3: can be corrected with repetition. So if you're interested in Avalon,
- 12:35Speaker 3: please go adopt her. She's a great, great looking dog.
- 12:37Speaker 3: She make a great pet for your family. Three years old, female,
- 12:41Speaker 3: not fixed yet but will be microchip and vaccinated again.
- 12:44Speaker 3: Came in as astray around fifty two pounds. I've got
- 12:46Speaker 3: her picture posted at Dave Alin Radio on Facebook and
- 12:49Speaker 3: at Dave a seventy on x the artist formally known
- 12:52Speaker 3: to Twitter. So let's go get Avalon and get her

- 16:20Speaker 5: when do you have time to breathe?
- 16:23Speaker 3: I find time. I find time to breathe and eat.
- 16:27Speaker 3: Eating comes first, Breathing come second.
- 16:29Speaker 5: Okay, breathe and breathe out, eat more.
- 16:31Speaker 3: Okay, it's good. It's not really Snyder approved, Okay, but
- 16:36Speaker 3: it's my lifestyle, all right. So we got this event,
- 16:39Speaker 3: this Taste of Nitro going on. Give us a few
- 16:41Speaker 3: details from the top and then we'll get into specifics.
- 16:44Speaker 5: Well, basically, it's the Taste of Nitro and it will
- 16:47Speaker 5: be tomorrow from noon until four twelve o'clock until four pm.
- 16:52Speaker 5: And everything is centered around the Living Memorial Park, all
- 16:56Speaker 5: the food boosts and we'll talk about that as a second.
- 16:58Speaker 5: We'll be lined up on Second Avenue, but we'll I'll
- 17:03Speaker 5: kick everything off at noon and go until about four o'clock.
- 17:07Speaker 5: And this is really a cool thing day because it's
- 17:09Speaker 5: a fundraiser for the Nitro Mission Team. The Nitro Mission
- 17:13Speaker 5: Team is made up of the various churches throughout the
- 17:15Speaker 5: Nitro area. It's headed up by Bill Fortune, and the
- 17:20Speaker 5: Mission Team also operates the Nitro Food Pantry, which every Tuesday.
- 17:26Speaker 5: Really helped out a lot of people that need the
- 17:28Speaker 5: help any time of the year. They operate fifty two
- 17:33Speaker 5: weeks a year and they just are a big thing.
- 17:35Speaker 5: So it's a way for the City of Nitro to
- 17:38Speaker 5: step up and raise some money for the Nitro Mission Team.
- 17:41Speaker 3: How many years has this been going on?
- 17:44Speaker 5: Well, Taste of Nitro kind of took a little break
- 17:48Speaker 5: right around the COVID, you know how everything just kind
- 17:50Speaker 5: of stepped back because of COVID, and well, the Kim Reid,
- 17:55Speaker 5: the city planner with Nitro, you know, we had a
- 17:59Speaker 5: fairs and festive meeting and events meeting earlier in the
- 18:02Speaker 5: year and she just looked up, she said, let's bring
- 18:05Speaker 5: back the tyste of Nitro. So we got with Bill Fortune,
- 18:09Speaker 5: who heads up the Mission Team, and well it's back
- 18:13Speaker 5: together again. But it had been going on until they
- 18:16Speaker 5: stopped it a couple of years ago, for over a decade.
- 18:20Speaker 5: It's their biggest fundraising event of the year.
- 18:23Speaker 3: So what's on the menu tomorrow?
- 18:25Speaker 5: Oh, this is a Dave Allen special day.
- 18:30Speaker 3: Why because there's food.
- 18:32Speaker 5: Yeah, well, there's food. And if you can't find something,
- 18:34Speaker 5: you're not looking hard enough. We've got barbecue sliders, hot dogs,
- 18:38Speaker 5: cheese burgers, Italian sausages, tacos, nachos, pepperoni rolls, corner on
- 18:43Speaker 5: the cob, beans and corn bread, watermelons, mini cheesecakes, cookies, water, soda,
- 18:49Speaker 5: and just bring your appetite.
- 18:51Speaker 3: Oh yeah, we'll do. We talk with Joe Stevens about
- 18:53Speaker 3: the Taste of Nitro, which is going to be happening tomorrow.
- 18:56Speaker 3: So how does the pricing work Joe? For this event?
- 19:00Speaker 5: It is is you go to We've got a couple
- 19:03Speaker 5: We'll have a couple of tables set up where you
- 19:05Speaker 5: can get a ticket for a dollar and you or
- 19:08Speaker 5: you can get six tickets for five dollars, or you
- 19:11Speaker 5: can get twenty tickets for fifteen dollars and you take
- 19:15Speaker 5: these tickets to the various food boosts. And all the
- 19:17Speaker 5: food boosts are are being operated by the various churches,
- 19:22Speaker 5: civic groups and city council members throughout Nitro. But the
- 19:27Speaker 5: most expensive thing will be a three dollars item, so
- 19:32Speaker 5: it's just three tickets. But again, at the end of
- 19:35Speaker 5: the day, all that money that you're paying for these
- 19:37Speaker 5: food tickets will be going back to the mission team
- 19:42Speaker 5: as if this is a fundraiser. All the food boosts
- 19:46Speaker 5: real easy. You come on up twenty first Street and
- 19:49Speaker 5: you find a parking spot on twenty first Street or
- 19:52Speaker 5: Second Avenue, but from twenty first Street to nineteenth second
- 19:56Speaker 5: Avenue will be blocked off and that's where all the
- 20:00Speaker 5: food booths will be and each one will have a
- 20:03Speaker 5: sign and how many tickets that you need, and everything
- 20:06Speaker 5: is being cooked tomorrow, so everything's kind of pressing ready
- 20:11Speaker 5: to go. The on Living Memorial Park itself, we're gonna
- 20:15Speaker 5: have about ten ten tents set up, say that twice
- 20:19Speaker 5: real fast, but there'll be ten tenths set up with
- 20:22Speaker 5: tables and chairs for dining purposes. Down at twentieth Street,
- 20:27Speaker 5: we're going to have a kids area where we're gonna
- 20:30Speaker 5: have inflatables, we're gonna have a dunking tank, and we've
- 20:33Speaker 5: reserved your spot for tomorrow day for you to come
- 20:36Speaker 5: and spend some time because I I've already bought the
- 20:40Speaker 5: balls to throw at you and you can throw back
- 20:43Speaker 5: at me if you want. But there'll be a dunking tank,
- 20:45Speaker 5: a foam party. We're gonna have all the fire trucks
- 20:49Speaker 5: out so the kids can come and see the fire trucks.
- 20:51Speaker 5: We're gonna have face panting, we're gonna have a magician,
- 20:54Speaker 5: so it's just gonna be a fun time. But the
- 20:56Speaker 5: kids area will be down right around twentieth Street and
- 20:59Speaker 5: right around the Fire department in City Hall, and all
- 21:01Speaker 5: the food will be on Second Avenue from twenty first
- 21:04Speaker 5: to twentieth Street.
- 21:06Speaker 3: If I want to be a part of this as
- 21:08Speaker 3: far as being a food vendor, is there still time?
- 21:10Speaker 3: Can I still get done on this?
- 21:12Speaker 5: No? Really, everything is pretty much set up as it
- 21:15Speaker 5: pertains to the food. Again, it's all the churches and
- 21:20Speaker 5: the city council and civic groups stepping up and they
- 21:25Speaker 5: will be distributing the food. We'll be starting to set
- 21:28Speaker 5: up about seven o'clock and everything, but everything gets underway
- 21:31Speaker 5: at noon, goes until about four o'clock. We'll have a
- 21:33Speaker 5: really cool local bluegrass band kicking off on the stage
- 21:37Speaker 5: at noon, and then we've got a local In fact,
- 21:40Speaker 5: there's a bunch of guys from our Public Works department
- 21:43Speaker 5: The Barnholler Boys will be playing from two to four pm.

- 21:55Speaker 3: Hardware WV dot com. And I like this because in
- 21:58Speaker 3: addition to the food, as you say, Joe, you do
- 22:00Speaker 3: have a lot of stuff going on for the entire family.
- 22:03Speaker 5: Yeah, and that's what it's all about. In fact, if
- 22:06Speaker 5: you want to come on out and see one of
- 22:08Speaker 5: the new electric buses that will be used to haul
- 22:10Speaker 5: students this school year beginning August the sixteenth, roll have
- 22:15Speaker 5: some of the electric buses on display. We've got the
- 22:18Speaker 5: new we've got some other big toys that people can
- 22:21Speaker 5: come out and watch. But again, at the at the
- 22:24Speaker 5: end of the day, it's raising money for the Nitro
- 22:26Speaker 5: mission team and Dave that they do a great job
- 22:29Speaker 5: and that's what it's all about.
- 22:30Speaker 3: Indeed, that is what it's all about. Again. We're talking
- 22:32Speaker 3: with Joe Stevens about the Taste of Nitro which is
- 22:36Speaker 3: happening tomorrow and it's a fundraiser for the Nitro Mission team.
- 22:39Speaker 3: And as you said, it Joe, you can't. I'm aware
- 22:42Speaker 3: of their work. I've had people from that organization on
- 22:45Speaker 3: the show in the past. You can't speak highly enough
- 22:47Speaker 3: about the work that those folks do.
- 22:49Speaker 5: They just provide when people are in need. End of stories.
- 22:54Speaker 5: They provide when people are in need, and we can't
- 22:58Speaker 5: we can't thank them enough indeed.
- 23:00Speaker 3: All right, So we'll get back to getting back to
- 23:04Speaker 3: the food here in just a matter of moments. But
- 23:05Speaker 3: normally our segments when I have you on the show, Joe,
- 23:07Speaker 3: are a little bit rush up. We've got a little
- 23:09Speaker 3: bit more time today, so I'm going to give you
- 23:11Speaker 3: time to go ahead and talk about your Baltimore Orioles
- 23:13Speaker 3: because I know you're dying too.
- 23:16Speaker 5: Well. I always talk about Mose Days, but you know,
- 23:20Speaker 5: they took it on the chin last night ten to
- 23:22Speaker 5: three to Cleveland. But they're playing well. They've they've got
- 23:27Speaker 5: a young team, they've got a hustling team, and it's
- 23:30Speaker 5: just fun to watch. My son Christian and I have
- 23:33Speaker 5: been going up there for over a decade to go
- 23:37Speaker 5: see him play. I grew up in Baltimore, as we've
- 23:39Speaker 5: mentioned on the show before, so as the Cincinnati Raids
- 23:44Speaker 5: or Pittsburgh pirates are in the front for a lot
- 23:48Speaker 5: of people around here. Let's go oz.
- 23:51Speaker 3: Indeed, all right, give us all the details of the
- 23:53Speaker 3: taste of Nitro again, Joe.
- 23:55Speaker 5: Okay, twelve to four tomorrow right there at Memorial Park,
- 24:00Speaker 5: which is located on Second Avenue and twenty first Street.
- 24:04Speaker 5: We'll have food booths set up from on Second Avenue
- 24:08Speaker 5: from twenty first to nineteenth Street. We'll have a kid
- 24:10Speaker 5: zone with a lot of things to do. Can't wait
- 24:13Speaker 5: to see Dave Allen in the dunk tank. But the
- 24:17Speaker 5: person leading off, of course, will be Mayor Dave Casebold himself,
- 24:20Speaker 5: so I know there's going to be a long line
- 24:23Speaker 5: for people to be able to dump him. We've got
- 24:26Speaker 5: music starting at noon going until four. Again. I can't
- 24:30Speaker 5: emphasize it enough. It's a chance for us to pay
- 24:33Speaker 5: back to the Nitro mission team and help him out
- 24:35Speaker 5: as they help others throughout the year.
- 24:38Speaker 3: Well, you know, I think you've got one Dave in
- 24:40Speaker 3: the Mayor, Dave Casebold. I don't think you need another
- 24:42Speaker 3: one there. I'll be honest with you. I think you're good.
- 24:45Speaker 5: You're always honest, Dave.
- 24:46Speaker 3: I can't put that in right, all right, Joe, it's
- 24:48Speaker 3: going to be a great event in the city of
- 24:50Speaker 3: Nitro tomorrow. I appreciate everything that you and the folks
- 24:52Speaker 3: do there. So if you're looking for some great food,
- 24:54Speaker 3: some great music, some great entertainments under for the entire family.
- 24:57Speaker 3: What about the weather tomorrow, Joe, They tell us it's
- 24:59Speaker 3: going to be over the weekend, some intermediate intermitting showers
- 25:03Speaker 3: and thunderstorms. Well, what are we gonna do about that?
- 25:05Speaker 4: Put them?
- 25:06Speaker 5: They will be a mother's nation's dunk tank.
- 25:08Speaker 3: Then okay, all right, Joe, we'll talk again. Soo, man,
- 25:12Speaker 3: I appreciate a good luck tomorrow.
- 25:14Speaker 5: Let's go os all right.

- 26:01Speaker 3: a judge for the chili contest, which will be at
- 26:04Speaker 3: some point in the fall. I'm only hoping for date

- 26:18Speaker 3: I judged both. Last year I was a judge for
- 26:21Speaker 3: the Mac and Cheese cookoff their fundraiser at Capital Market,
- 26:25Speaker 3: shifted gears, and then went and judged chili in Nitro.
- 26:30Speaker 3: Probably not going to do those two things again in

- 31:12Speaker 3: hundred dollars. Luckily she was able to pay, but many
- 31:15Speaker 3: people would not be able to do so. Vet services
- 31:18Speaker 3: are so expensive, probably why there are so many stray
- 31:21Speaker 3: and unwanted pets running around. More low cost vet services
- 31:25Speaker 3: are needed, says a taxi I. As a animal owner
- 31:29Speaker 3: animal lover, I certainly would agree with that, but you
- 31:32Speaker 3: also well let me let me start and defend the
- 31:36Speaker 3: by defending the vets for just a moment. They are
- 31:40Speaker 3: in a very expensive profession, and I have people I've
- 31:43Speaker 3: known that are veterinarians, and that stuff costs stuff. I mean,
- 31:47Speaker 3: it really costs money to be able to do what
- 31:49Speaker 3: they do. They're not all in it just trying to
- 31:51Speaker 3: make profits and trying to be you know, greedy, I'm
- 31:55Speaker 3: gonna say greedy landbear, greedy pet bearings. I don't know,
- 31:58Speaker 3: but there's a lot of expense involved in that. That
- 32:01Speaker 3: having been said, though, I agree with the Texter that
- 32:05Speaker 3: there should be some low cost alternatives out there, and
- 32:07Speaker 3: there are various programs here in the Kenaw Valley. Not
- 32:10Speaker 3: for spain and neutering and vaccinations. I mentioned the Fixed

- 32:36Speaker 3: try to try and throw a little fun funds their way.

- 36:11Speaker 13: Yes, Dave, it's got to say that. You know, I
- 36:14Speaker 13: love dogs, cats, whatever animal you want. But I think
- 36:20Speaker 13: this whole thing about thattinary services, it's a racket. See
- 36:27Speaker 13: that neara there's only so many thatinary schools in the
- 36:29Speaker 13: United States, and they keep it that way, they want
- 36:33Speaker 13: it that way, and that's why they haven't put one
- 36:35Speaker 13: at West Virginia University. And they've had Richard Lindsay on
- 36:40Speaker 13: the radio before and also Kent Lynn or they need
- 36:44Speaker 13: a thatinary school up at Morgantown. It's the same thing
- 36:47Speaker 13: that happened with the pharmacists. You know, pharmacists were getting
- 36:51Speaker 13: high wages and all this, and then they put in
- 36:54Speaker 13: these other schools around here and it's it's bounced out things.
- 36:58Speaker 13: But you know it's it's a racket. It's the vetinary
- 37:02Speaker 13: things a racket. Those vets know that if you bring
- 37:05Speaker 13: fido in there, you're gonna pay whatever they throw in
- 37:08Speaker 13: front of you, whatever amount you know that they want.
- 37:14Speaker 13: And h there's doesn't seem like there's any price controls
- 37:18Speaker 13: on any of that kind of stuff. And we need
- 37:19Speaker 13: rural vet for all these vetinary guys. They don't do
- 37:23Speaker 13: the dirty farm type vet because they don't make the money.
- 37:28Speaker 13: They don't make that kind of money as they do
- 37:30Speaker 13: with the fidos and the ccs and these little cat
- 37:33Speaker 13: kiddies and all that. But I think it's the thin's
- 37:36Speaker 13: gonna be the best thing, is that we need a
- 37:38Speaker 13: vetinary school. And uh, and even look at this, the
- 37:41Speaker 13: University of Kentucky doesn't even have a vetinary school with
- 37:44Speaker 13: all those horses down there.
- 37:45Speaker 3: Really yeah, really, I did not know that.
- 37:47Speaker 13: They don't have one. And it's just it's it's just funny.
- 37:51Speaker 13: And so again we're sending our kids out of state
- 37:55Speaker 13: to be educated and then hope, hopefully they come back.
- 37:58Speaker 13: But this one girl, I knew it was a doctor.
- 38:03Speaker 13: She lived in Kentucky. She wanted to be a that nearya.
- 38:06Speaker 13: It was easier for her to get into medical school
- 38:09Speaker 13: at Kentucky then to go somewhere else and be a
- 38:11Speaker 13: that nearya.
- 38:13Speaker 11: Really.
- 38:13Speaker 13: Yeah, she's a successful doctor and everything, you know, but
- 38:17Speaker 13: she wanted she really wanted to work on animals.
- 38:20Speaker 3: Well, I appreciate your phone calling, your input, have a

- 39:14Speaker 3: fact it is on my Facebook page Dave Allen Radio.
- 39:16Speaker 3: So if you want to listen. Theyk got some fantastic musicians.
- 39:19Speaker 3: As David and I were talking about yesterday, sometimes we
- 39:21Speaker 3: have a tendency to think about just the music. There's
- 39:23Speaker 3: so much more involved, But the music is a major,
- 39:26Speaker 3: major part of it. And so they've got a lot
- 39:28Speaker 3: of great musicians, a lot of great food, a lot
- 39:30Speaker 3: of great stuff going on with Multifest. I got a
- 39:32Speaker 3: complete schedule posted for it on my on my Facebook page,
- 39:37Speaker 3: so go ahead and check that out. The switching to
- 39:41Speaker 3: news here for a couple of moments and then I'll
- 39:43Speaker 3: get to some texts the horrific tobacco store murder story
- 39:48Speaker 3: from earlier this year. Jeff Jenkins has an update to
- 39:51Speaker 3: the stories postedt WV metro News dot com. Judge Mary
- 39:54Speaker 3: Claire Akers has now ordered a second fourteen year old
- 39:58Speaker 3: male to be tried as an adult. His name is
- 40:01Speaker 3: Barack Howard Williams, and I'm saying his name out there
- 40:05Speaker 3: because he is now considered an adult according to the
- 40:08Speaker 3: court system, even though he is only fourteen. The order
- 40:13Speaker 3: says there is probable cause to believe that Williams was
- 40:17Speaker 3: standing out outside the shop while another fourteen year old
- 40:22Speaker 3: Brewand Williams Hampton, is accused of shooting and killing the
- 40:27Speaker 3: nineteen year old clerk by the name of Kaden Martin
- 40:30Speaker 3: during a robbery at the Tobacco and Pipe shop over
- 40:33Speaker 3: on Seventh Avenue that happened back in January. Now the
- 40:35Speaker 3: prosecutor of the case, deb Rusnick, agreeing that they should
- 40:40Speaker 3: be charged as adults. An interesting story. One of the
- 40:44Speaker 3: ways that they were able to trace this young man
- 40:50Speaker 3: back to this crime is that he is alleged to
- 40:54Speaker 3: have stolen ice cream while he was in there, and
- 40:57Speaker 3: they found the ice cream wrapper, I guess at his house,
- 41:01Speaker 3: and that's one of the ways that they were able
- 41:03Speaker 3: to nab him on this look. I talked about the
- 41:06Speaker 3: story when it happened back in January. It was a
- 41:09Speaker 3: horrifying story then. It's a horrifying story now for everyone involved.
- 41:13Speaker 3: But you just think these two fourteen year olds, the
- 41:18Speaker 3: two fourteen year olds who now their life is effectively
- 41:22Speaker 3: over because of this, because they are going to be
- 41:26Speaker 3: tried as adults, and so you think that for them,
- 41:30Speaker 3: their lives are now over at the tender ages of fourteen.
- 41:34Speaker 3: The young man, the clerk in the store, nineteen years old,
- 41:38Speaker 3: obviously his life is over. Literally. The families of not
- 41:44Speaker 3: only the victim, but also the families of the accused
- 41:48Speaker 3: of two fourteen year olds in this case, because again
- 41:52Speaker 3: the family isn't always guilty, and they go down with
- 41:57Speaker 3: the ship, so to speak. So it's just a terrible
- 42:00Speaker 3: story all around. Jeff's got it posted if you want
- 42:03Speaker 3: to read more about it on wv metronews dot com.
- 42:09Speaker 3: I mean not got a couple of text here. Texas

- 42:23Speaker 3: I got a little bit more in the Greenbrier story

- 47:14Speaker 3: that they're doing to raise money for the WVU Pride
- 47:16Speaker 3: Marching Band that will be during Sunday's contests. So you
- 47:21Speaker 3: want to buy a hotel Well. Brad with an updated
- 47:25Speaker 3: story on wv Metronews dot com mentioned this yesterday. The
- 47:28Speaker 3: Greenbrier is going up for auction at the end of
- 47:33Speaker 3: the month in Lewisbourg. Now this is just the actual
- 47:36Speaker 3: hotel and the area around it. From what I understand,
- 47:40Speaker 3: some of the parking. It's not the entire complex, it's
- 47:44Speaker 3: the it's just the actual hotel part. I think so.
- 47:48Speaker 3: The Justice Family Companies released a statement confirming the legal
- 47:54Speaker 3: notice of the auction which Brad broke that story just
- 47:57Speaker 3: a couple of days ago, and others have followed suit,
- 48:01Speaker 3: saying calling it this is his words, another political stunt
- 48:07Speaker 3: by the Democrat machine. So he's blaming here, with all
- 48:12Speaker 3: due respect to the governor, he is blaming the quote
- 48:15Speaker 3: Democrat machine for this issue, Governor, Governor, Governor. The question
- 48:27Speaker 3: that I would ask here is what Democrat machine are
- 48:30Speaker 3: you referring to? Governor? Are you referring to the West
- 48:36Speaker 3: Virginia Democrat machine? And with all due respect to state
- 48:41Speaker 3: Democratic Party Chair of Delegate, frequent friend of the show,
- 48:44Speaker 3: Mike Pushkin, I don't know that he'd call what we
- 48:48Speaker 3: have in West Virginia a Democrat machine. Right now, it's
- 48:52Speaker 3: barely a sputter. Again, I'm trying to be as nice
- 48:55Speaker 3: as I can. I'm just saying that I'm not saying
- 48:57Speaker 3: anything I wouldn't say if Mike Bushkin were setting right now.
- 49:00Speaker 3: A very good friend of mine off the air. We
- 49:02Speaker 3: don't agree on a whole lot politically, but we actually
- 49:04Speaker 3: are pretty good friends.
- 49:06Speaker 13: Now.
- 49:06Speaker 3: Is it on the national level because it's a Senate race. Possibly,
- 49:10Speaker 3: But I'm sorry, Governor, with all due respect, and I've
- 49:12Speaker 3: had the Governor on the show many many times, and
- 49:14Speaker 3: he's always welcomed here. He talks to me, does not
- 49:18Speaker 3: talk to Brad mcilhanney, but he does talk to me.
- 49:22Speaker 3: I just can't go along with that, Governor. I'm sorry.
- 49:24Speaker 3: I just simply cannot go along with this is just
- 49:27Speaker 3: part of a political ploy. The Justice family financial issues
- 49:36Speaker 3: have been very well known going back to when Jim
- 49:40Speaker 3: Justice was a Democrat. They were very well known before
- 49:45Speaker 3: Jim Justice ever thought about going into politics. I mean,
- 49:51Speaker 3: this goes back an issue. And again, I have never
- 49:55Speaker 3: been a billionaire, as I've said before, so I don't
- 49:56Speaker 3: know what it's like to have Justice, Jim Justice or
- 49:59Speaker 3: Justice family problems. But this goes well back, well back
- 50:03Speaker 3: before the political realm. Some of these some of these
- 50:06Speaker 3: issues regardless, as I said on the show yesterday, the Greenbrier,
- 50:10Speaker 3: I think goes back to seventeen seventy eight, and it
- 50:13Speaker 3: would be a shame. I mean, it's it's faced financial
- 50:16Speaker 3: peril before, if you remember, the governor got it out
- 50:19Speaker 3: of financial peril, and so his issues have kind of
- 50:25Speaker 3: enveloped the whole thing right now, and so toward the
- 50:28Speaker 3: end of the month, Anthony, if you want to make
- 50:29Speaker 3: a trip to Lewisbourne, we could bed on the Greenbrier.
- 50:33Speaker 3: I mean, can you see maybe we should take that over,
- 50:36Speaker 3: you know, the WVRC media family. That'll be our news
- 50:38Speaker 3: to Gouse. We're remodeling. We've been remodeling here for some time,
- 50:42Speaker 3: and we and there's a lot of work going on
- 50:45Speaker 3: here twenty four hours a day. Maybe maybe weisha should
- 50:48Speaker 3: be our new studios, the WVRC Media studios. I want
- 50:51Speaker 3: to I could see that taking over, taken over the
- 50:54Speaker 3: you kidding. They won't even let me and Anthony in
- 50:56Speaker 3: the parking lot the Greenbriar. All right, I'll close with this.
- 51:01Speaker 3: As we have reported and other outlets have as well,
- 51:05Speaker 3: including a big front page story in the Gazette Mail
- 51:09Speaker 3: this morning, an elections complaint has been filed against Republican
- 51:13Speaker 3: Secretary of State candidate Chris Warner now Chris Warner Chris
- 51:16Speaker 3: brother Mac Warner, former Republican State Party chair Chris got
- 51:20Speaker 3: through that primary against Doug scaff Ken Reid and Putnam
- 51:26Speaker 3: County Clerk Brian Wood, and the Gazet front page story
- 51:31Speaker 3: this morning. Of course, we talked about it a couple
- 51:32Speaker 3: of days ago and others have as well, that there
- 51:34Speaker 3: has been an official complaint filed. Now, the way this
- 51:39Speaker 3: works is is that you can't necessarily the Office of
- 51:42Speaker 3: the Secretary of State or I would imagine any agency
- 51:46Speaker 3: like that really can't can confirm or deny that there
- 51:50Speaker 3: is an investigation going on, but that there has been
- 51:52Speaker 3: a complaint file. That is a fact. And this story
- 51:56Speaker 3: is going to continue to float around this all. I mean,
- 52:01Speaker 3: they're linking, you know, Mark Scott in with this, but
- 52:03Speaker 3: remember it complaining. It's just a complaint. And uh, we're
- 52:06Speaker 3: gonna get into this story a little bit further on Monday,
- 52:09Speaker 3: all right, My thanks to Joe Stevens. Don't forget the
- 52:12Speaker 3: City of Nitro's Taste of Nitro is going on tomorrow
