- 0:00Speaker 1: Let's do it. Welcome live the Dunkin Music Lounge. Great
- 0:05Speaker 1: crowd on hand this Tuesday night. As the season gets underway.
- 0:10Speaker 1: I'm like Chrispino, this is Jim Moore to my right.
- 0:13Speaker 1: We will be talking on.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Tuesdays about what happened over the weekend and what's ahead
- 0:17Speaker 2: for the Huskies in football. So we hope you'll be
- 0:19Speaker 2: joining us on the ninety seven nine of the Yukon
- 0:22Speaker 2: Sports Network. But nothing better than a live audience. You
- 0:25Speaker 2: get to meet some of the folks that come to
- 0:26Speaker 2: our games. We get to meet the coach and hear
- 0:29Speaker 2: what he has to say. Not for public consumption, for
- 0:33Speaker 2: the press, like sometimes you have to act a certain
- 0:36Speaker 2: way in front of the press, But when you're here,
- 0:39Speaker 2: I noticed that you're able to say things, and you
- 0:42Speaker 2: say things that we don't hear as a member of
- 0:44Speaker 2: the press staff. Is that fair to say? Yes, and
- 0:50Speaker 2: that is a good thing.
- 0:51Speaker 1: I think.
- 0:51Speaker 3: I don't know. It can be. It can also be
- 0:53Speaker 3: not so good for me if I say the wrong thing.
- 0:56Speaker 2: No, you don't say the wrong thing. Listen, well once
- 0:59Speaker 2: in a while, Well that's all right. Nine and four
- 1:02Speaker 2: last year, let's go back to that first before forward
- 1:05Speaker 2: Fenway Bowl one of the great moments, I mean in
- 1:08Speaker 2: Yukon football history in my mind. Weird, crazy weather day
- 1:12Speaker 2: and playing in a baseball stadium against North Carolina, an
- 1:16Speaker 2: acc team. We haven't beaten enough of them yet. We'll do.
- 1:19Speaker 2: We'll get to that. But that day I felt and
- 1:22Speaker 2: the way the Yukon fans showed up there and got
- 1:26Speaker 2: behind this program was tremendous. I think that's a step
- 1:29Speaker 2: in the right direction.
- 1:30Speaker 3: It certainly was amazing, and I believe it's a step
- 1:33Speaker 3: in the right direction. We flud you can carry on
- 1:35Speaker 3: them with that energy and that success, But it was
- 1:38Speaker 3: a special day, you know. And been able to play
- 1:41Speaker 3: in a lot of big games in my career, participate
- 1:43Speaker 3: in a lot of big games, and that was one
- 1:44Speaker 3: that I'll never forget. Just being in Finway, historic Finway.
- 1:49Speaker 3: I've always been you can boom me if you want,
- 1:51Speaker 3: but I've always been a Red Sox fan. Hey, all right,
- 1:54Speaker 3: there we go. You know, the Green monsters behind us.
- 1:58Speaker 3: We're playing Carolina Belich's new team, and we got after
- 2:03Speaker 3: him pretty good. But I think the thing that'll stick
- 2:05Speaker 3: with me most was just the energy in the stands,
- 2:08Speaker 3: and it was a Yukon crowd. I mean it was
- 2:10Speaker 3: overwhelmingly a Yukon crowd and they were excited to watch
- 2:14Speaker 3: their team play. And I felt that at moments since
- 2:18Speaker 3: I've been here, but we hadn't you know, we have
- 2:20Speaker 3: to earn that. I believe I said that for years,
- 2:23Speaker 3: and I felt like at that moment it all kind
- 2:25Speaker 3: of came together with our team and our fans, and
- 2:28Speaker 3: it was It was unique, and it was fun and
- 2:30Speaker 3: it was exciting, and we were pulling off the energy
- 2:33Speaker 3: of the people that were in the stadium and we
- 2:35Speaker 3: were able to get it beat a good team, and yeah,
- 2:38Speaker 3: it was It was really a fun, fun day went off.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Remember forever head coach to Morris with us on Mike
- 2:43Speaker 2: Chrispino to play by play voice Lawski's. Another element of
- 2:47Speaker 2: that day that I think you appreciate, and I think
- 2:50Speaker 2: the University of Connecticut football people appreciate, is there were
- 2:54Speaker 2: several guys on the field that day that had been
- 2:58Speaker 2: in the dumps prior right and saw this thing building
- 3:02Speaker 2: and saw you come to a culmination with that squad
- 3:06Speaker 2: last you know, December, and win a game. And you
- 3:10Speaker 2: could see it. The Delauney staff Johnnie Staffers and guys
- 3:13Speaker 2: like that had been around and struggled and tried to
- 3:16Speaker 2: fight their way up the mountain. You got them there,
- 3:19Speaker 2: and boy, they loved it getting up there, didn't they.
- 3:21Speaker 3: Well, they got themselves there. You know. They just you
- 3:24Speaker 3: talk about Delawney or Jilanni, but you know, you think
- 3:28Speaker 3: about Dumont and Chase and I mean the list goes
- 3:32Speaker 3: on and on. These guys that have just persevered and
- 3:35Speaker 3: they were one and eleven a few years ago and
- 3:37Speaker 3: they hung in there and they kept believing and they
- 3:40Speaker 3: kept working and they never lost the faith and the vision.
- 3:43Speaker 3: And so to see some reward for that was pretty
- 3:46Speaker 3: darn special. You know, those are things as a coach
- 3:48Speaker 3: that you really value is when the players that you're
- 3:50Speaker 3: able to coach, you watch them, you know, fulfill their dreams,
- 3:55Speaker 3: you know, and their achievements, and it's it's pretty unique
- 3:58Speaker 3: and it was a great day for that.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Football, to me, is the sports that's the toughest because
- 4:03Speaker 2: there's so much physical pain you got to go through
- 4:06Speaker 2: to be successful, and it's a twelve month commitment. And
- 4:10Speaker 2: to see some of those guys who's you know, suffered
- 4:13Speaker 2: really trying to win football games come to that point
- 4:17Speaker 2: in Fenway and play like that and then celebrate it
- 4:21Speaker 2: with the Yukon's football fans. I mean, it doesn't get
- 4:24Speaker 2: much better.
- 4:25Speaker 3: No, you know, football is different than basketball, baseball, hockey,
- 4:28Speaker 3: some of those other sports. We get twelve shots, you know,
- 4:31Speaker 3: we don't get in the thirties. So every game takes
- 4:34Speaker 3: on so much importance. And you know, those guys have
- 4:38Speaker 3: been through a lot, you know, and just to see them,
- 4:42Speaker 3: you know, go out the way they did, and like
- 4:45Speaker 3: you said, just that connection with the fans in their
- 4:49Speaker 3: last game, and I feel like they really felt that
- 4:52Speaker 3: they had accomplished something. And they got their rings last
- 4:55Speaker 3: actually this week or last week, and I wish I
- 4:57Speaker 3: had been able to see some of their faces when
- 4:59Speaker 3: that ring showed up in the in the mail form,
- 5:02Speaker 3: because it was it was a special day. I have
- 5:04Speaker 3: so much respect for those young men and just the
- 5:07Speaker 3: way that they they hung in there and they persevered,
- 5:10Speaker 3: you know, they had resilience.
- 5:12Speaker 2: I was on the sideline today at practice with Ronte Jones,
- 5:15Speaker 2: who was part of that team. Obviously, he asked me
- 5:17Speaker 2: if I got my ring, I'd like, ring, what ring?
- 5:21Speaker 3: It's in my desk. It's in my desk. I'll go
- 5:24Speaker 3: very much.
- 5:25Speaker 2: That is uh, that's a special moment. I got to say,
- 5:28Speaker 2: you win a bowl game, coming from where the Yukon
- 5:30Speaker 2: was just four years ago, it's an amazing, amazing climb.
- 5:33Speaker 2: We're going to talk about what happens from here. That's
- 5:36Speaker 2: next when we continue on The Yukon Football Coaches Show
- 5:39Speaker 2: with Jim Moore.
