- 1:51Speaker 3: A bright good morning, and welcome to a brand new week.
- 1:55Speaker 3: It is Tuesday, Labor Day. Behind US one hundred and
- 1:59Speaker 3: fifty million people moving and with the price of gas
- 2:06Speaker 3: a little bit more affordable, more people were hitting the
- 2:09Speaker 3: roads this past weekend than ever. And man, the horror
- 2:15Speaker 3: stories of the traffic tie ups ninety three, four, ninety five,
- 2:20Speaker 3: ninety five, just everywhere. New York threw a the mass Pike.
- 2:28Speaker 3: Just everything was so jammed up yesterday. Glad that I
- 2:33Speaker 3: was right here in Vermont. I want to say happy
- 2:36Speaker 3: birthday today to Diane Leshume's Bill Haynes on the list today,
- 2:41Speaker 3: Happy birthday Bill, Heather Grant, Lorie Lockwood, Cameo Wells, Chris
- 2:49Speaker 3: Gruin Lee could Tell, Dennis Worke, Brenda King, Crystal Blaisdell,
- 2:59Speaker 3: and Jerica Bogus ginger Esteville also on the birthday list today.
- 3:06Speaker 3: We're looking at a cloudy start to your Tuesday eighty degrees,
- 3:11Speaker 3: though later today it's actually going to be a really
- 3:13Speaker 3: nice week. We're looking at partly cloudy skies in fifty
- 3:16Speaker 3: three tonight and then tomorrow mostly sunny eighty and pretty
- 3:23Speaker 3: much the same story on Thursday. It is just going
- 3:26Speaker 3: to be wonderful this week. And again, if you're just
- 3:31Speaker 3: joining us, a very good Tuesday morning to you. Spoke
- 3:36Speaker 3: with Steve McKenzie this morning about the one for three
- 3:40Speaker 3: Main Street initiative, of course, the JJ Newberry Building, and
- 3:47Speaker 3: it was my understanding that today, being September two, was
- 3:52Speaker 3: the deadline to raise the funds needed to acquire that building.
- 3:59Speaker 3: And it is the ninth of September, says Steve. The
- 4:05Speaker 3: executive committee is going to be meeting tomorrow and Monday
- 4:11Speaker 3: is it's game time. So we should be finding out
- 4:16Speaker 3: here in less than a week whether or not things
- 4:21Speaker 3: are going to change quickly. God willing for one for
- 4:27Speaker 3: three Main Street, the JJ Newberry Building, and hopefully, hopefully
- 4:33Speaker 3: things are going to happen there and within a couple
- 4:35Speaker 3: of years you're going to see a much much needed
- 4:39Speaker 3: change for that building. Listen, there is so much going
- 4:45Speaker 3: on in our community, so many things happening. Do keep
- 4:50Speaker 3: a close eye on the aired out page of things
- 4:54Speaker 3: that are happening, and if you need a daily dose
- 4:56Speaker 3: of feel good, it's on there right now what what
- 5:00Speaker 3: a great story about the kids getting back to school
- 5:03Speaker 3: and showing mom some love. Most of the schools across
- 5:09Speaker 3: America are actually starting school today. But there's some really
- 5:14Speaker 3: really good stuff that will warm your heart this morning
- 5:17Speaker 3: on the aired out page. I encourage you to have
- 5:19Speaker 3: a look and check it out. We've got a very
- 5:23Speaker 3: busy week here Tonight. I'm going to be over at
- 5:27Speaker 3: the Canadian Club and we are going to be The
- 5:31Speaker 3: Lions Club is going to be cutting a check to
- 5:37Speaker 3: the Noades family. This is the family up in Barrytown
- 5:41Speaker 3: that lost their barn to that horrible fire in April.
- 5:47Speaker 3: And we just had Barry Farm Fest, this huge day
- 5:52Speaker 3: long concert and food festival and whatnot for the Nodes
- 6:00Speaker 3: family and man our community came through in a big,
- 6:03Speaker 3: big way. There were hundreds of people up there. It
- 6:05Speaker 3: was an amazing time. And tonight the Nodes are going
- 6:12Speaker 3: to find out exactly how much money was raised for
- 6:15Speaker 3: them to rebuild that barn and cover some other expenses
- 6:21Speaker 3: that they need to family of nine children on that farm. Well,
- 6:29Speaker 3: they're all going to be there tonight and I can't
- 6:33Speaker 3: wait to bring you there with us. And that's exactly
- 6:36Speaker 3: what I intend to do so you will be able
- 6:40Speaker 3: to see and hear as the nodes receive their surprise
- 6:47Speaker 3: check tonight right around It's going to be some time
- 6:51Speaker 3: around five to five thirty or so. When I get
- 6:54Speaker 3: a better time to give you heads up, I will
- 6:58Speaker 3: certainly let you know. My guest this morning, and I
- 7:03Speaker 3: love before we even get started. I absolutely love talking
- 7:09Speaker 3: about stuff like this, especially if it's right here in
- 7:13Speaker 3: our backyard, in our community. Anytime you hear the word
- 7:18Speaker 3: Silver Towers, most people, I think, at least here in
- 7:24Speaker 3: central Vermont perk up and they know what that is.
- 7:30Speaker 3: Silver Towers is an overnight camp for people with disabilities,
- 7:37Speaker 3: and it is owned and operated by the Vermont Elks
- 7:43Speaker 3: Charities Incorporated. They have had this camp for a very
- 7:48Speaker 3: very long time and they do so much, so much
- 7:54Speaker 3: every single summer for people with disabilities, ranging in age
- 8:00Speaker 3: from age six all the way up to age seventy five.
- 8:07Speaker 3: They bring these folks together and they give them a
- 8:11Speaker 3: couple of weeks of just pure life and joy. And
- 8:19Speaker 3: without Silver Towers, it just simply wouldn't happen. So it is,
- 8:27Speaker 3: with no further ado. Dave Bingham is my guest this
- 8:33Speaker 3: morning from the Elks. Good morning, sir, how are you?
- 8:36Speaker 2: Good morning, JD. Nice to meet you and happy to
- 8:38Speaker 2: be here.
- 8:39Speaker 3: You know, and I've met you before, and I don't
- 8:42Speaker 3: know in what capacity. Probably something to do over there,
- 8:47Speaker 3: because I'm always over at the Elks, and you guys
- 8:49Speaker 3: are always cooking up amazing food, and that's probably it's
- 8:54Speaker 3: probably food related because I love food. Man.
- 8:59Speaker 2: We do a lot of food there.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Stacy Holton is saying good morning to you.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Is he good morning, Stacy? How you doing, buddy?
- 9:06Speaker 3: Of course he's down.
- 9:07Speaker 2: He's down at.
- 9:07Speaker 3: Florida Snowbird, lucky guy. Yeah, he's probably get his flip
- 9:14Speaker 3: flops on right now, just got off the beach. You know,
- 9:17Speaker 3: I don't know, but listen you you guys do so
- 9:22Speaker 3: much over at the Elks, so much for our community.
- 9:28Speaker 3: This anytime there's something happening, it's usually there. I mean,
- 9:33Speaker 3: look at night to shine. I mean, I could sit
- 9:36Speaker 3: here and rattle off a list a mile long of
- 9:39Speaker 3: everything that you do at the Elks, and it's just
- 9:44Speaker 3: I don't know what what the hell we would do
- 9:45Speaker 3: without you? Really, yeah, all of you.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Yeah, well thank you.
- 9:50Speaker 3: Thanks.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Yeah, We're I mean, we're we're all happy to do it.
- 9:53Speaker 2: We're all happy to do it.
- 9:54Speaker 3: Yeah. It is just such a great facility. That dance
- 9:59Speaker 3: floor is second to none at the big stage. I mean,
- 10:02Speaker 3: over the years, we've done so many things with you guys,
- 10:05Speaker 3: and we love and appreciate every one of you. And
- 10:09Speaker 3: before we go an inch further, let's say this. You
- 10:12Speaker 3: want to join the Elks. It's simple. How do you
- 10:15Speaker 3: do it? What's very simple.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Best way to do it is go online and get
- 10:20Speaker 2: a print off an application membership application. Fill it out.
- 10:25Speaker 2: You need to have a sponsor. Yeah, so you have
- 10:27Speaker 2: to have an Elks member sponsor your application, turn the
- 10:31Speaker 2: application in. I think they ask you to pay thirty
- 10:34Speaker 2: five dollars which goes towards your first year's initiation fee,
- 10:40Speaker 2: and then you get interviewed. But the interview is most
- 10:45Speaker 2: people take the interview with something negative, you know, they
- 10:48Speaker 2: want to know what's he been doing?
- 10:49Speaker 3: You know interesting?
- 10:51Speaker 2: It's all it is is just us sharing the information
- 10:55Speaker 2: of what we do so that you know what we're
- 10:57Speaker 2: all about.
- 10:58Speaker 3: That's what it is. Yeah.
- 10:59Speaker 2: Once you go through that meeting, then you're initiated. You
- 11:03Speaker 2: go through the initiation that we have, which is an
- 11:06Speaker 2: old initiation, which is about one hundred and forty years old,
- 11:10Speaker 2: and it's very interesting.
- 11:14Speaker 3: Can you share any anything about that?
- 11:17Speaker 2: Not really, no, I'll let them. Yeah, I mean the
- 11:22Speaker 2: initiation is not that bad. Sure, you know, it takes
- 11:25Speaker 2: about an hour and a half or so, but it
- 11:27Speaker 2: is different. It's something that you've never experienced before.
- 11:30Speaker 3: That's right. Yeah, that's right. That's so cool. And if
- 11:33Speaker 3: you're an Elk you certainly know. Absolutely. But one of
- 11:37Speaker 3: one of the most dare I say the most important
- 11:44Speaker 3: things events that you guys are involved with is Silver Towers. Yes.
- 11:52Speaker 2: That is the chief charitable project for the Vermont Elks Association.
- 11:57Speaker 2: So every lodge in the state of Vermont has to
- 12:00Speaker 2: fundraise a certain amount of money based on the number
- 12:04Speaker 2: of memberships that they have so that the camp can operate.
- 12:08Speaker 2: And you can do you can fundraise the money any
- 12:10Speaker 2: way you want it, as long as you come up
- 12:12Speaker 2: with the amount that they want you to come up.
- 12:14Speaker 2: But at the end of the year. So I came
- 12:17Speaker 2: up this idea eight years ago doing a golf tournament,
- 12:21Speaker 2: and we're doing our ninth outing this Friday at the
- 12:25Speaker 2: Country Club of Barry. We have eighty eight players already
- 12:29Speaker 2: signed up to go twenty two teams. It's a scramble format,
- 12:34Speaker 2: so you don't have to be a good golfer to
- 12:36Speaker 2: be in it, just to have a couple of good
- 12:38Speaker 2: golfers on your team. And we tee off at eleven o'clock.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Registration starts at nine thirty. It's one hundred and twenty
- 12:46Speaker 2: five dollars per person to get in, and I am
- 12:49Speaker 2: actively looking for a couple of more forsomes.
- 12:53Speaker 3: Okay, if many, how many? How many slots do you
- 12:58Speaker 3: have opened? I have to stots?
- 13:03Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, so I've got eight slots open. Okay, if
- 13:08Speaker 2: you you know, I mean, we can take your name.
- 13:09Speaker 2: If you're only a single and you don't have three
- 13:11Speaker 2: other players, sure, and we can try and pair you
- 13:14Speaker 2: with a team that couldn't fill out a foursome. But
- 13:16Speaker 2: that really happens. Most of the people that sign up
- 13:19Speaker 2: already have a force theme together and we don't have
- 13:21Speaker 2: to worry about plugging.
- 13:24Speaker 3: Yeah. What a great time of year to be playing golf.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Yeah, it is the only bad thing about it is well,
- 13:31Speaker 2: the leaves haven't started the fall yet. Sure to be
- 13:33Speaker 2: able to find your ball all right?
- 13:35Speaker 3: Country Club of Perry, I can't say enough about them
- 13:40Speaker 3: I mean, there's uh, there's a golf club that has
- 13:47Speaker 3: hosted many golf tournaments for area charities, and this is
- 13:52Speaker 3: one of the biggest right here.
- 13:54Speaker 2: They're they're great to work with them, and we've been
- 13:56Speaker 2: working with them consistently for the last eight years and
- 13:59Speaker 2: they've always treated us well and we always have.
- 14:02Speaker 3: A good time. So we go back every year. What happens,
- 14:06Speaker 3: tell me about the day, how it's going to break
- 14:09Speaker 3: down on Friday, this coming Friday.
- 14:11Speaker 2: So what happens on Friday is the registration table opens
- 14:14Speaker 2: at nine thirty and that's open until the tea off
- 14:17Speaker 2: time at eleven. Usually everybody gets there by about ten
- 14:20Speaker 2: thirty and gets checked in.
- 14:23Speaker 3: And then we have.
- 14:26Speaker 2: Like a group meeting before just to explain the rules
- 14:28Speaker 2: of the tournament. And we're going to have distinguished guests
- 14:32Speaker 2: this year that we're gonna have. We're gonna have Nick Zecanelli. Yes,
- 14:36Speaker 2: some Wayside is going to be there. The camp director,
- 14:40Speaker 2: Carolyn Ravenna is coming up on Friday, so she will
- 14:44Speaker 2: be there. It's at eleven o'clock. We all do the
- 14:48Speaker 2: shotgun start. You play your eighteen holes, turn in your scorecards,
- 14:52Speaker 2: and then as soon as the tournament is done, we're
- 14:55Speaker 2: all heading back to the Barry Elks Lodge to the
- 14:58Speaker 2: main hall. We'll have some orders there, chicken wings, meatballs,
- 15:02Speaker 2: and we'll do our awards. We'll do the prizes, first
- 15:05Speaker 2: place prize, second place prize on the prizes for the
- 15:08Speaker 2: longest drive from men and women, closest to the pin
- 15:11Speaker 2: for men and women. And we're doing something a little
- 15:15Speaker 2: different this year. We're doing a program pay it to
- 15:19Speaker 2: Play it Forward. What that means is is this three
- 15:24Speaker 2: power fives on the Berry Country Club golf course. So
- 15:28Speaker 2: we're going to take two of those power fives, two
- 15:30Speaker 2: of the difficult ones, and if you want to pay
- 15:34Speaker 2: to play forward, you pay ten bucks which is donated
- 15:37Speaker 2: to Silver Towers, and you can play one of those holes.
- 15:40Speaker 2: The men can go from the white tees up to
- 15:43Speaker 2: the gold tees and the ladies can go from the
- 15:46Speaker 2: red tees up to the junior te's, so it gives
- 15:49Speaker 2: them an opportunity to get a much better score on
- 15:53Speaker 2: that hole than they normally would if they were hitting back. Interesting,
- 15:57Speaker 2: if you want to do the two holes, you just
- 15:59Speaker 2: pay their bucks and you can do both holes. And
- 16:02Speaker 2: of course all that money we raise for that will
- 16:03Speaker 2: go right to Silver Towers. You the brainchild of this, No,
- 16:07Speaker 2: actually it was one of the volunteers. I have seventeen
- 16:11Speaker 2: volunteers that work with me on this golf tournament. There
- 16:14Speaker 2: is not one person that can do this all by themselves.
- 16:17Speaker 2: It's impossible. Yeah, but the one thing about being a
- 16:22Speaker 2: member of the Barry Elks Lodge you can find a
- 16:25Speaker 2: volunteer everywhere.
- 16:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:26Speaker 2: People are ready to volunteer, help out, do whatever they
- 16:30Speaker 2: can sure to make sure we reach our goal. You
- 16:34Speaker 2: know the bpoe you see on the Elks. Yeah, yeah,
- 16:37Speaker 2: I say it stands for the best people on Earth.
- 16:42Speaker 2: Yeah that's true.
- 16:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Wow, we've made a lot of friends, my wife and
- 16:46Speaker 2: I since we've been members, they have made a lot
- 16:47Speaker 2: of acquaintances, new friends.
- 16:49Speaker 3: How long ago was that? Thirteen years ago? Jeez? Let's
- 16:55Speaker 3: talk about Nick for a second. Yeah, Nick zech Canelli. Yeah,
- 17:01Speaker 3: he has been awarded the Friendliest Camper Award for twenty
- 17:05Speaker 3: twenty five. What a guy I mean, and everyone knows him. Yeah,
- 17:11Speaker 3: it's always at the wayside.
- 17:13Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, yes he still works there, I think. Yeah,
- 17:16Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure. Yeah, I believe he does in the kitchen.
- 17:22Speaker 2: Is he going to be there is he going to
- 17:23Speaker 2: be Nick is going to be there. He is, He
- 17:26Speaker 2: will be there.
- 17:26Speaker 3: His parents will be there too.
- 17:28Speaker 2: And I can't thank the ZEC and Ellie's enough this
- 17:31Speaker 2: year because they actually stepped up without me even asking
- 17:36Speaker 2: and said, hey, we'd like to have Nick come to
- 17:40Speaker 2: the golf tournament this year and you know, do something
- 17:44Speaker 2: to help to raise money for you guys playing golf.
- 17:46Speaker 2: And he also took out a full page ad in
- 17:50Speaker 2: the world, which is people have probably seen by now
- 17:54Speaker 2: with all those sponsors on there. So I mean, I
- 17:57Speaker 2: can't even thank them enough for all they've done this year.
- 18:00Speaker 2: They've they've really put us over the edge this year.
- 18:02Speaker 3: Do you have the list list of sponsors? If you don't, Okay,
- 18:10Speaker 3: I was gonna say if you don't, I do, But
- 18:13Speaker 3: I do have the list of sponsors. I mean, through
- 18:16Speaker 3: these area businesses, some some big time love here.
- 18:21Speaker 2: Well, I can tell you the two sponsors that have
- 18:23Speaker 2: been with us since day one of the Wayside Restaurant
- 18:27Speaker 2: and Milne Travel, they've been with us since day one.
- 18:31Speaker 2: This year, we've got some new platinum sponsors that have
- 18:33Speaker 2: come on. I don't know if anybody knows Dan Riley,
- 18:36Speaker 2: but he has a charitable foundation, and he paid for
- 18:39Speaker 2: a platinum sponsorship this year. We got BCI Elite, which
- 18:45Speaker 2: is I believe that goes to the Bevans. It's Randolph Bevans,
- 18:51Speaker 2: his business. Ye Fairways and Greens is sponsoring up at
- 18:56Speaker 2: the country Club, the restaurant up there. Northfield Savings Bank,
- 19:01Speaker 2: co Op Insurance Company, Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Fecto Homes,
- 19:05Speaker 2: Upper Valley Produce, Benoit Electric, Freezing Fund for Families, Barry Paint,
- 19:12Speaker 2: Vermont Mutual Insurance Group, Diverge Heating Service, Batura and Gerardi,
- 19:19Speaker 2: Norway and sun Born Electric, PNG, Sandblast, cd R Concrete,
- 19:26Speaker 2: Hani Realtors and Element Real Estate pro Heat, Lenny's Shoe
- 19:31Speaker 2: and Apparel, Edward Jones and Chase and Chase Surveyors. Also,
- 19:37Speaker 2: Roberts Electric and the VFW.
- 19:39Speaker 3: Have also put in a sponsorship for this year. So
- 19:42Speaker 3: we're really excited about that. That's amazing is that the
- 19:45Speaker 3: complete list.
- 19:46Speaker 2: That's the complete list for this year. I mean the
- 19:49Speaker 2: list can go on and on. Some people will sponsor,
- 19:52Speaker 2: you know, like every other year, or some years they
- 19:54Speaker 2: might have a down year and they can't and we
- 19:56Speaker 2: understand that, yeah, you know, but just putting it out there.
- 20:00Speaker 2: It's for silver Towers and what we're trying to raise money.
- 20:02Speaker 2: For sure, it's not really a hard sell.
- 20:04Speaker 3: Yeah, you don't really have to say much more than that.
- 20:06Speaker 3: I was going to say all these businesses, they're all
- 20:09Speaker 3: about silver Towers.
- 20:10Speaker 2: The other platinum sponsor that I forgot that came on
- 20:13Speaker 2: this and they'll kill me if I don't mention this
- 20:14Speaker 2: is McGee ford.
- 20:16Speaker 3: Oh yeah, they're on there too. Great people. Yeah, absolutely,
- 20:20Speaker 3: my goodness, that's a that's a list man. Yeah, yep,
- 20:25Speaker 3: Holy crap. I mean it's has the window closed though.
- 20:30Speaker 3: If you want to be a sponsor.
- 20:33Speaker 2: For this year, well you can still be a sponsor
- 20:36Speaker 2: and you can still make a donation, but the window
- 20:38Speaker 2: is closed. As far as for every sponsor, I always
- 20:41Speaker 2: try to get a T box sign. Yeah, and then
- 20:44Speaker 2: for my platinum sponsors Silver sponsors, we have banners that
- 20:47Speaker 2: we hang up at the registration table that has all
- 20:51Speaker 2: their logos on it, so everybody knows who the big
- 20:54Speaker 2: time sponsors are.
- 20:55Speaker 3: Okay, so I.
- 20:57Speaker 2: Try to do that. It's past the deadline for me
- 21:00Speaker 2: to get that to happen this year. Sure, but you're
- 21:02Speaker 2: more than willing to sponsor if you want, and if
- 21:05Speaker 2: you do, I will make sure that you're signed up
- 21:07Speaker 2: heres next year's tournament, whether you don't, you know, donate
- 21:11Speaker 2: next year or not.
- 21:12Speaker 3: Yeah? What about uh camper registration? Camper registration? Yeah, for
- 21:20Speaker 3: campers who want to be signed up for next year?
- 21:24Speaker 3: Is that? Is there a window for that? Do you
- 21:27Speaker 3: know how that works at Silver Towers? Yeah? I don't.
- 21:30Speaker 2: I know that they have an eight week We can
- 21:34Speaker 2: sign up for one week session or two week sessions,
- 21:37Speaker 2: but there's eight weeks that that camp.
- 21:38Speaker 3: Is actively working. Okay, that's a lot. Yeah, yeah, it's
- 21:45Speaker 3: a lot. And you you were telling me that some
- 21:50Speaker 3: of the camp consulars who volunteer to put this on
- 21:57Speaker 3: are not just Verm honors. No, No, they're from all
- 22:01Speaker 3: over the place, all over the world. Yeah, I didn't
- 22:05Speaker 3: know that. Yeah.
- 22:05Speaker 2: I was looking at some of the videos this morning
- 22:07Speaker 2: on it and I knew that they had some, but
- 22:09Speaker 2: I didn't realize I had so many. I was watching
- 22:11Speaker 2: one one person from Brazil on there saying how excited
- 22:15Speaker 2: they were to be coming to come on to camp
- 22:17Speaker 2: to council, and I forget what the other lady was,
- 22:20Speaker 2: but she was over in Europe somewhere. These people come
- 22:23Speaker 2: over and donate their time to help these people have
- 22:28Speaker 2: a good time at camp. I'm being asked about weather
- 22:34Speaker 2: for Friday. I was going to ask you the same thing. Oh,
- 22:37Speaker 2: I heard, I heard the weather forecasting, but you only
- 22:40Speaker 2: went till Thursday.
- 22:44Speaker 3: What have you done in the past when the weather
- 22:46Speaker 3: is not absolutely perfect.
- 22:50Speaker 2: It's rain or shine? And the part about the rain
- 22:54Speaker 2: thing is, though, if we really get a downpour and
- 22:57Speaker 2: a lot of heavy rain at Berry Country Club, which
- 23:01Speaker 2: probably either gonna be suspended for a while, so we
- 23:04Speaker 2: won't start until later when the stops raining and the
- 23:07Speaker 2: course drives out. Yeah, but we've only run into that
- 23:11Speaker 2: a couple of times, thank god. Most of the time
- 23:12Speaker 2: we've had pretty good weather. Yeah, and I think this
- 23:16Speaker 2: Friday they were calling for rain, but I think that
- 23:18Speaker 2: it's going to happen during the early.
- 23:20Speaker 3: Morning, yes, early, yeah, and sunshine right right behind it.
- 23:25Speaker 3: So I think things are going to be nice. Seventy
- 23:28Speaker 3: six for the for the high on Friday. Yeah, So
- 23:32Speaker 3: we do need the rain, but oh absolutely, you.
- 23:35Speaker 2: Know we do.
- 23:36Speaker 3: You say down, you say down boars and golf, And
- 23:40Speaker 3: when I hear you, hear the thinking of caddy shack.
- 23:44Speaker 2: The last time I went out to play with a
- 23:48Speaker 2: couple of guys that are going to be here in
- 23:50Speaker 2: the tournament. We went out a couple of weeks ago
- 23:52Speaker 2: and it was raining at eleven and I looked at
- 23:54Speaker 2: the phone and says, Oh, it's gonna stop raining at noon,
- 23:57Speaker 2: so let's just go out.
- 23:58Speaker 3: We'll play.
- 23:59Speaker 2: And it was raining pretty really started. Yeah, And we
- 24:01Speaker 2: got through the sixth hole and it was raining even
- 24:03Speaker 2: harder than when we teeted off, and I just looked
- 24:05Speaker 2: at everybody and I said, I'm calling it, And I
- 24:09Speaker 2: didn't get an argument from anybody. We were soaking wet.
- 24:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:13Speaker 2: It was at the point where in the backswing, you know,
- 24:16Speaker 2: on your golf backswing, your club was turning three hundred
- 24:19Speaker 2: and sixty degrees. You couldn't even control the head of
- 24:20Speaker 2: your club. And it was like, Okay, this this is.
- 24:23Speaker 3: Over, Dave, this is this is so great man. And
- 24:29Speaker 3: let's say this again, just like it says in the world,

- 26:19Speaker 2: I believe he has the first few years that we
- 26:23Speaker 2: had because he's been in Florida for a while now.
- 26:25Speaker 3: Yeah, him and his wife. But is he pretty pretty
- 26:29Speaker 3: good golfer? Stacy? I don't know. I've never played golf
- 26:32Speaker 3: with them. Okay, I don't know. Is he still listening there?
- 26:36Speaker 2: He is? Oh?
- 26:37Speaker 3: Yeah, And let's say this, even though he's a snowbird,
- 26:44Speaker 3: loves coming back home. Oh yes he does, and so
- 26:47Speaker 3: does his wife and loves loves walking through the doors
- 26:51Speaker 3: at the Elks Lodge. You guys do such important work
- 26:57Speaker 3: and we are so so lucky to have you in
- 27:01Speaker 3: our community, the Elks Lodge, making sure that the experience
- 27:08Speaker 3: at Silver Towers never goes away, right, that it's there
- 27:16Speaker 3: every single summer for people with a vast array of challenges, disabilities,
- 27:24Speaker 3: whatever word you want to insert there, just to make
- 27:28Speaker 3: sure that for a couple of weeks every summer they're
- 27:32Speaker 3: just having a really good time.
- 27:35Speaker 2: And you know, the campers, this is for most of them,
- 27:39Speaker 2: it's probably the only thing that they get to look
- 27:41Speaker 2: forward to every year, all year long. I know when
- 27:44Speaker 2: twenty twenty, during the year of COVID do is we
- 27:46Speaker 2: didn't open it and We were very disappointed that we
- 27:51Speaker 2: couldn't open it obviously, you know, sure, but it's been
- 27:56Speaker 2: in the Elks family since nineteen fifty eight, and as
- 27:58Speaker 2: long as we have the power to keep it going,
- 28:00Speaker 2: we're going to keep it going. Nineteen fifty eight. Yeah,
- 28:05Speaker 2: I was two years old when Silver Towers started. When
- 28:08Speaker 2: Silver Tower started. Wow, that's sixty seven years that that's
- 28:14Speaker 2: been an operation.
- 28:17Speaker 3: Was COVID the only one that you can remember? They
- 28:23Speaker 3: know of that we we did not open. Yes, yeah,
- 28:26Speaker 3: you know, for obvious reasons.
- 28:27Speaker 1: Wow.
- 28:28Speaker 3: Yeah, nineteen fifty eight. That's remarkable. Yeah. Anything else that
- 28:36Speaker 3: is in your notes or in your mind that you
- 28:40Speaker 3: want to relay this morning, just.
- 28:44Speaker 2: That as an Elks association, the Vermont Elks Association, I know,
- 28:48Speaker 2: has about six thousand members statewide, and we do we
- 28:53Speaker 2: give out charity money of about one point two million
- 28:57Speaker 2: dollars as an organization every year.
- 29:00Speaker 3: Seriously, one point two million every year.
- 29:03Speaker 2: Every year, and every year, the total Elks in the
- 29:09Speaker 2: country will do eighty million dollars in charitable donations. The
- 29:16Speaker 2: only other entity, the only other entity that does more
- 29:20Speaker 2: charitable work than we do is the United States government.
- 29:25Speaker 2: Think about that. I was I was floored the first
- 29:31Speaker 2: time I heard it.
- 29:33Speaker 3: I'm still trying to process that. I know, it's incredible.
- 29:39Speaker 3: Stacy's saying Archie Puterra was one of the people that got.
- 29:43Speaker 2: It going Archie but Terra. Yeah, yeah, must had something
- 29:47Speaker 2: to do with but Terra and Guarati, I am guessing.
- 29:50Speaker 3: So that's really an amazing statistic. Yeah, I didn't know that,
- 29:57Speaker 3: know it now? Yeah? Wow?
- 29:59Speaker 1: Man?
- 30:00Speaker 3: Yeah, Dave, thanks for coming in here this morning, Thanks
