- 0:00Speaker 1: Now from the Star Rentals Sports to us your ninety
- 0:03Speaker 1: three point three JJRFM sports headlines.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Good morning, Happy Friday, Happy early weekend to you, and
- 0:09Speaker 2: that the Virginia Mason Athletics Center in Seahawks training camp
- 0:12Speaker 2: headlines brought to you by Frostprood Corps. I choose chill.
- 0:14Speaker 2: The Seahawks are practicing right now, in fact, just starting
- 0:18Speaker 2: T shirt shorts walk through Tdarian Price, Derek Hall, Emmanuel
- 0:23Speaker 2: Wilson all on the field. But again it's truly a
- 0:25Speaker 2: walk through. I mean they are walking day before game practice.
- 0:29Speaker 2: They had a drama in their preseason yesterday at the
- 0:31Speaker 2: NFL source told me yesterday evening that this afternoon, in
- 0:34Speaker 2: fact to see it. Super Bowl champs are expected to
- 0:36Speaker 2: sign free agent quarterback tear On Arnold, perhaps as soon
- 0:38Speaker 2: as today. There is no roster move yet. He's not
- 0:42Speaker 2: here that I can tell, or at least not on
- 0:43Speaker 2: the field yesterday. The former lines started first round pick
- 0:46Speaker 2: two years ago, had an arraignment hearing. Was supposed to
- 0:48Speaker 2: have an arrangement hearing yesterday in Tampa, Florida. He actually
- 0:51Speaker 2: had it last week by a zoom eight felony charges.
- 0:54Speaker 2: He's facing four each for kidnapping and burglar. Each of
- 0:56Speaker 2: the charges carry a possible sense of life in prison.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Talk a lot more about this move by the Seahawks.
- 1:03Speaker 2: They played a Dallas Cowboys to our five pm at
- 1:05Speaker 2: Lumanfield in the first of three preseason games. Yesterday's practice
- 1:09Speaker 2: the last one, and at the camp with fans, Sam
- 1:11Speaker 2: Darnold complete command began the story that's up at the
- 1:14Speaker 2: neews Tribune dot com. Tomorrow night's gonna be thinned. Running
- 1:18Speaker 2: back for the Seahawks. TJ. Harden's gonna get a lot
- 1:21Speaker 2: of looks. You're gonna see Dallas Jones Junior Justin Jones.
- 1:25Speaker 3: To stand out in that group.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Vellas Jones is the one who was here last year,
- 1:30Speaker 2: is in the practice squad. He was actually elevated for
- 1:32Speaker 2: the Super Bowl, so he's the one that's the most
- 1:35Speaker 2: familiar here. But he was a wide receiver to begin
- 1:37Speaker 2: this camp, and then when all the injuries at running back,
- 1:39Speaker 2: they convert him back to running back. They're pretty thin tomorrow. TJ.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Harden's been here for nine days and he's probably gonna
- 1:45Speaker 2: get all the carries tomorrow. Mary's one. They actually won
- 1:48Speaker 2: a game yesterday, first time in seven games and what
- 1:50Speaker 2: was the score, Greg one nil, one nil.
- 1:55Speaker 4: And here's how it happened, we said, Wilson I charged
- 2:00Speaker 4: is tacked to let field and gone. The Weston Wilson
- 2:04Speaker 4: homers in New York off of Max Freed just the
- 2:08Speaker 4: second homer the Lefties surrendered all season long, hamla Arenders
- 2:13Speaker 4: in front one nothing of.
- 2:16Speaker 2: All people, Weston Wilson, Mara's only win when they hit
- 2:20Speaker 2: a home runs Logan Gilbert about four hits, six scoreless innings,
- 2:23Speaker 2: Bizarro Ferra, Munos one scoreless inning each, Munos two strikeouts
- 2:27Speaker 2: in perfect ninth twenty first save Manners now eight games
- 2:30Speaker 2: under five hundred, five games out of first place in
- 2:32Speaker 2: the AL West. In the next three games are at
- 2:34Speaker 2: the first place trash Cans, starting tonight in Houston five
- 2:38Speaker 2: to ten, first pitch with George Kirby on the mountin
- 2:40Speaker 2: for the Manors. Tomorrow they go four to ten our
- 2:42Speaker 2: time Emerson Hancock starts. Then Sunday is a national NBC
- 2:46Speaker 2: Peacock broadcast. Sunday four to twenty, Seattle start Brian lou In.
- 2:50Speaker 2: The series finale at Houston should be nice for the Mariners.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Take all three and get the two back. Of course,
- 2:55Speaker 2: they could lose all three and be eight back too.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Marin's demoted rookie shortstop Colt Emerson the Triple A Tacoma
- 3:01Speaker 2: probably about three weeks too late. He's batt in one
- 3:03Speaker 2: ninety with the Mariners since his call up earlier this season.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Of course, they gave him the ninety million dollars guaranteed
- 3:08Speaker 2: contract before they called him up. Bernanda Mendoza was ten
- 3:11Speaker 2: of sixteen for ninety seven yards and a touchdown in
- 3:13Speaker 2: four drives last night for the Raiders in their preseason
- 3:16Speaker 2: game against the Cardinals. Raiders coach Clint kuby Ack, you
- 3:20Speaker 2: remember him, said of the rookie number one pick over all, Mendoza,
- 3:23Speaker 2: Sure do, said, I see an ascending player in Mendoza.
- 3:26Speaker 2: That's a Kouoby. Except last night. Sounders Vancouver white Caps
- 3:29Speaker 2: seven thirty Sunday right here on ninety three point three KJRFM,
- 3:33Speaker 2: and the Cascadie Cup LS derby at Louminfield tonight at
- 3:36Speaker 2: seven pm at Luomenfield. The Rain played a Chicago in
- 3:39Speaker 2: the National Women's Soccer League in the Storm this weekend
- 3:42Speaker 2: two games if seven and twenty eight. They host a
- 3:44Speaker 2: WNBA expansion Portland Fire at Climate Pledgerina. Tonight Sunday they
- 3:48Speaker 2: played the Storm played the Chicago stock Sky. I'll get
- 3:52Speaker 2: it right at Seattle Center. Now on with the Friday Show.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Jessin mcintirebacker Elliott Day Studios in downtown Seattle. Good morning,
- 3:59Speaker 2: ma'am morning.
- 4:00Speaker 5: I still think Sarah chose this song as one of
- 4:03Speaker 5: her favorites knowing that you and I would be back
- 4:05Speaker 5: together because it's return of the Mac. I do miss
- 4:12Speaker 5: having your face here in the studio, but I'm glad
- 4:14Speaker 5: that you can give us all the insight from out
- 4:16Speaker 5: there at Seahawks training camp.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Thank you, Yes would be. Training camp's really starting to
- 4:21Speaker 2: dial down now. Yesterday was the last time fans and
- 4:23Speaker 2: an open practice, which means reporting wise, we're restricted from
- 4:27Speaker 2: reporting now going forward in kind of regular season mode
- 4:31Speaker 2: of telling you past plays and formations and who was
- 4:34Speaker 2: with the first team, because pretty soon we're not even
- 4:37Speaker 2: going to be able to be out at practice except
- 4:39Speaker 2: for the first ten minutes. So that's why we give
- 4:41Speaker 2: you the intense practice reports during training camp because it's
- 4:44Speaker 2: your only chance to share with fans what happens during
- 4:48Speaker 2: practices and then they go into super secret. I mean,
- 4:52Speaker 2: I've worked at the Pentagon. It's not quite as secret
- 4:54Speaker 2: as NFL teams try to be.
- 4:56Speaker 5: Yeah, well I do think that, you know, it just
- 4:59Speaker 5: forced people to watch what they're seeing when it comes
- 5:02Speaker 5: to preseason. Because we're about to watch our first preseason game.
- 5:06Speaker 2: That's right tomorrow, five pm at Lumenfield, Dallas. Cowboys come
- 5:09Speaker 2: in here. The Cowboys have their first part of their
- 5:11Speaker 2: training camp in Oxnard, California, so they'd like to have
- 5:13Speaker 2: their first preseason game of staying on the West Coast,
- 5:16Speaker 2: and that's why they're coming up to Seattle. The Seahawks.
- 5:19Speaker 2: We're gonna talk to Mike McDonald about eleven thirty when
- 5:23Speaker 2: this practice that just started ends. But I don't anticipate
- 5:25Speaker 2: the starter's playing. He did have a cryptic comment the
- 5:28Speaker 2: other day about we're looking at doing playing the quarterbacks
- 5:31Speaker 2: in the preseason differently than we did last year. Whether
- 5:34Speaker 2: that means Sam Darnold plays more or not in these
- 5:37Speaker 2: preseason games, we'll find out. I would. I just can't
- 5:40Speaker 2: see the reason to do that, So we'll see tarry
- 5:44Speaker 2: on Arnold's the story here. John Schneider was brazen for controversy. Member.
- 5:48Speaker 2: We told you he's been sending lieutenant's staff out to
- 5:51Speaker 2: investigate controversial acquisitions. Will he just put one in his
- 5:54Speaker 2: own building? A guy who's facing eight felony counts tarry
- 5:58Speaker 2: On Arnold. The Lions cut him as soon as he
- 5:59Speaker 2: got charge with those eight felonies this summer, and the
- 6:02Speaker 2: Seahawks are about to sign him, a league source telling
- 6:05Speaker 2: me yesterday afternoon they're expected to get the deal done
- 6:08Speaker 2: here next day or two. It's going to be a
- 6:09Speaker 2: one year deal because he still is under his rookie
- 6:13Speaker 2: contract and still has two years. He's only had two
- 6:15Speaker 2: years in the league. Arnold, suddenly a first round pick,
- 6:19Speaker 2: is now suddenly subject to restricted free agency rules after
- 6:23Speaker 2: this year. So if they do sign him to a
- 6:25Speaker 2: one year deal, he could come back to the Seahawks
- 6:28Speaker 2: at a restricted free agent tender price for next year.
- 6:31Speaker 2: And that could be some of their thinking here, that
- 6:34Speaker 2: they could have him under club control for not one,
- 6:36Speaker 2: but two years. At twenty three years old, he's still
- 6:39Speaker 2: only twenty three first round pick who was a starter
- 6:42Speaker 2: in this league. They're thinking is can we possibly have
- 6:45Speaker 2: two first round picks at age twenty three and twenty
- 6:47Speaker 2: five as our two starting corners? Yeah, Devin Witherspoon and
- 6:50Speaker 2: Terry and Arnold, and it also Jessaman is there. They've
- 6:54Speaker 2: had Josh job as the starter opposite of Witherspoon, but
- 6:58Speaker 2: he really McDonald really liked the versatility of the three
- 7:01Speaker 2: rotating cornerbacks into two spots and Nickel and moving Witherspoon inside,
- 7:05Speaker 2: and that they had with Greek Wollen last year. Of course,
- 7:08Speaker 2: they let Wolan go to Philadelphia for a twelve million
- 7:10Speaker 2: dollars one year deal. They've tried me am I a
- 7:13Speaker 2: Pritchett in that role. They've tried nog beenogaining that role
- 7:16Speaker 2: the eighth year veteran. Pritchett's a third year guy, fifth
- 7:20Speaker 2: round pick from Auburn a few years ago, who is
- 7:22Speaker 2: totally unproven, hasn't really gotten a chance yet. And I've
- 7:26Speaker 2: watched Pritchett fall off a little bit from his starting
- 7:28Speaker 2: role in the last couple of weeks a week or so,
- 7:31Speaker 2: So this could be a nod to that that maybe
- 7:34Speaker 2: Mike McDonald's not convinced Pritchett's the answered compared to perhaps
- 7:37Speaker 2: Terry on Arnold's talent. I talked yesterday to Jalen Millroad's
- 7:42Speaker 2: in my story at the News Tribune up right now
- 7:44Speaker 2: at the News Tribune dot com. Remember, you can subscribe
- 7:47Speaker 2: for six months for ninety nine cents if you want
- 7:48Speaker 2: to do that.
- 7:49Speaker 3: Yeah, it's pretty total.
- 7:52Speaker 5: That's the deal you got across the traditional media these days.
- 7:55Speaker 3: That's the deal of the century.
- 7:57Speaker 2: But in that story, Jalen Miller is saying that that
- 8:00Speaker 2: Tarran Onnod is his best friend from Alabama when they
- 8:02Speaker 2: played together. You use the term best friend and said
- 8:06Speaker 2: that he thinks he would flourish here and yeah, drop coming. Yeah,
- 8:11Speaker 2: we'll see that is a risk.
- 8:12Speaker 5: I was gonna say if if those who hadn't heard
- 8:16Speaker 5: John Schneider on Hard Knocks, which we played earlier this week,
- 8:20Speaker 5: I'd like to play that back because it's only a
- 8:22Speaker 5: minute long. But they the Hard Knocks team gets a
- 8:26Speaker 5: little more insight than we do.
- 8:29Speaker 6: I'm trying to remember.
- 8:30Speaker 7: Lake with this Terry and arn't think like we will
- 8:32Speaker 7: be another controversial signing that's happened.
- 8:37Speaker 6: So we could kind of like, oh, I can understand
- 8:39Speaker 6: that situation.
- 8:41Speaker 8: Situations where someone has like an outstanding.
- 8:43Speaker 9: Thing, right and allough I and or traded for a
- 8:49Speaker 9: choir just acquired, you know what I mean.
- 8:51Speaker 7: We have ninety players here right now. We're always kind
- 8:54Speaker 7: of looking for what's next. How do we how do
- 8:57Speaker 7: we get ready for you know, a corner. It's not
- 9:00Speaker 7: here yet, you know, like guys that we're gonna need
- 9:02Speaker 7: at a certain point. You want to be strong as
- 9:05Speaker 7: healthy as possible.
- 9:06Speaker 6: In December January last, I want to talk to about.
- 9:12Speaker 10: Kerry.
- 9:14Speaker 9: Oh yeah, he was awesome. He's like he's got a buddy,
- 9:20Speaker 9: high school buddy. He's like, this wised to be awesome.
- 9:23Speaker 9: Juan just a baby, his wife and La Pierson be awesome.
- 9:28Speaker 9: It's like he's just like it's just like Joey thinks
- 9:33Speaker 9: he is gonna be able to play in the preseason sweet.
- 9:40Speaker 2: That was the voice of John Schneider, the general manager
- 9:42Speaker 2: of the Main Boys, and he was the last scene
- 9:43Speaker 2: he's talking to his head coach Mike McDonald and Mike
- 9:47Speaker 2: McDonald's office on the second episode of Hard Knocks Joey
- 9:51Speaker 2: He refers to there at the end as Joey Lane,
- 9:53Speaker 2: the vice president of football administration for the Seahawks. You
- 9:56Speaker 2: can bet Joey Lane has been one of the point
- 9:58Speaker 2: guys investigating the seahawks own instigation into where Terry on
- 10:01Speaker 2: Arnold is headed in his felony case. In Florida. His
- 10:05Speaker 2: next hearing, Arnold's is October fifth. He's supposed to be
- 10:09Speaker 2: in person. That's a day after the Seahawks would play
- 10:12Speaker 2: the Chargers at home. They must, Jessmin have insight into
- 10:18Speaker 2: either one he's going to not be facing any of
- 10:22Speaker 2: the charges and that the case may not even proceed,
- 10:25Speaker 2: or that the NFL Roger Goodell may put him on
- 10:29Speaker 2: the exempt list waiting for the jurisprudence to take its course.
- 10:34Speaker 2: And then you heard John Schneider in that clip on
- 10:37Speaker 2: Hard Knocks talk about December and January and that this
- 10:40Speaker 2: could be a layaway deal where they're expecting him to
- 10:43Speaker 2: not be available and be on the exempt list to
- 10:45Speaker 2: begin the season, yet they think the jurisprudence or the
- 10:48Speaker 2: case itself will work itself out, or maybe he'd be
- 10:51Speaker 2: exonerated by December and January late in the season. And
- 10:55Speaker 2: then you're picking up a twenty three year old starting
- 10:56Speaker 2: quarterback first round pick in December of January, and it's
- 11:01Speaker 2: either or of one of those two things. They would
- 11:02Speaker 2: not sign him if they didn't have their own investigation
- 11:05Speaker 2: that gave him a heads up that he'll be able
- 11:06Speaker 2: to play this year. I asked Mike McDonald on Monday
- 11:08Speaker 2: that question how much did the Seahawks think he may
- 11:11Speaker 2: be able to play the full season, He said, we're
- 11:13Speaker 2: still working through that to find that out. We'll see.
- 11:17Speaker 2: We've talked about how these cases go. Sometimes sometimes the
- 11:22Speaker 2: accusers recant their stories and there are all kinds of
- 11:25Speaker 2: reasons for that.
- 11:26Speaker 3: And the system to tangle with.
- 11:28Speaker 2: You know, that's true, and we'll see. This is somewhat
- 11:34Speaker 2: similar to the Quinton Dunbar case a half dozen years
- 11:36Speaker 2: ago or so. When the Seahawks acquired Dunbar, he was
- 11:39Speaker 2: facing charges in Broward County. He was put on the
- 11:42Speaker 2: Commissioner's Goodell's exempt list in the summer, and then the
- 11:47Speaker 2: charges were dropped. The stories recanted, didn't not enough evidence
- 11:51Speaker 2: the accusers the cannon stories, and the charges are dropped.
- 11:55Speaker 2: Once the charges are dropped, the commissioner took him Dunbar
- 11:58Speaker 2: off the exemp list and he was able to play
- 12:01Speaker 2: for the Seahawks. Not well, and he didn't last very
- 12:03Speaker 2: long here. But this is somewhat similar if Taryann Arnold
- 12:08Speaker 2: goes on the Exemplest to begin the season or what
- 12:11Speaker 2: we didn't play in that second episode of Hard Knocks
- 12:13Speaker 2: about Tara Arnold. Well, Schneider's saying that the Seahawks believe
- 12:20Speaker 2: Arnold will be able to play in the preseason, which
- 12:22Speaker 2: is also interesting because the first of three games is tomorrow,
- 12:26Speaker 2: the second one is next Sunday, and then a week
- 12:28Speaker 2: after that's the third one. Then they're done. So that's
- 12:31Speaker 2: only two and a half weeks from now. So they
- 12:33Speaker 2: think Arnold will be out on his one million dollar
- 12:37Speaker 2: bond that he already posted, and that he will be
- 12:40Speaker 2: able to play. He's obviously able to sign with the
- 12:43Speaker 2: Seahawks doing this move, and they think he'd be able
- 12:46Speaker 2: to play here in the next coming weeks. Now, he
- 12:47Speaker 2: hasn't been on a field in pads since January, the
- 12:50Speaker 2: end of the Lion season. He was doing the off
- 12:53Speaker 2: season workouts before his arrest and then once the rest
- 12:56Speaker 2: of the Lions cut him, and he hasn't been in
- 12:57Speaker 2: pads or training camp or anything. So I don't think
- 13:00Speaker 2: he's a plug and play guy, Jess. Then, a guy
- 13:01Speaker 2: who hasn't been on a field since well, not in
- 13:04Speaker 2: pads anyway, since January.
- 13:05Speaker 5: Now he'll have to work his way, I mean, and hell,
- 13:07Speaker 5: Elsa have to earn the trust of the team.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Right and the way to do that is keep your
- 13:13Speaker 2: head down.
- 13:14Speaker 5: Yeah, yep, exactly exactly, and that is the culture that
- 13:18Speaker 5: Mike McDonald has established. So if they know more than
- 13:21Speaker 5: we know, then maybe this guy's got a shot.
- 13:25Speaker 2: And it could be that his first action is the
- 13:27Speaker 2: way this is shaping up. If he signs in the
- 13:29Speaker 2: next couple days, which I'm told may happen, it could
- 13:32Speaker 2: be that Terry on Arnold's first action on the field
- 13:35Speaker 2: will be in Nashville at the joint practice on Friday.
- 13:37Speaker 2: They have practices Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. Here he could have
- 13:40Speaker 2: ramp ups or acclamation and conditioning. Could be his first
- 13:44Speaker 2: football work. Could be in Tennessee's Friday a week from
- 13:48Speaker 2: today in the joint practice. He's the type of guy,
- 13:50Speaker 2: even though he may be starter and the starter pedigree
- 13:52Speaker 2: in this league, who would benefit from playing in the
- 13:54Speaker 2: preseason games, obviously, especially if the commission end up putting
- 13:58Speaker 2: on the exemp list to begin to see anyway. So
- 14:02Speaker 2: four nine, four to five one the Takomadadge text line.
- 14:04Speaker 2: We'll read it back at eleven thirty. Are you in
- 14:07Speaker 2: favor of this? You know this team's culture, you know
- 14:09Speaker 2: the brotherhood that got him the Super Bowl last year.
- 14:12Speaker 2: You know what Mike McDonald's built, and now he's bringing
- 14:14Speaker 2: in a guy and John Schneider's bringing in a guy
- 14:16Speaker 2: who's facing eight family charges for an allege kidnapping and
- 14:19Speaker 2: burglary and beating at gunpoint in Tampa four nine, four
- 14:23Speaker 2: to five. One will read back your text. Football always wins.
- 14:26Speaker 2: We did say that it always wins. There is morality
- 14:30Speaker 2: here and then there's football. In almost all cases, football
- 14:34Speaker 2: always wins. But it's still a departure from the normal
- 14:37Speaker 2: for Mike McDonald in his first two years. We're talking
- 14:39Speaker 2: about the Mariners. Three games in Houston. They will be
- 14:42Speaker 2: defining because if this goes a sweep either way, that's
- 14:46Speaker 2: gonna tell what the last thirty plus games of this
- 14:48Speaker 2: season is gonna be for the Mariners. They're five games
- 14:51Speaker 2: out right now. They could go as many as eight
- 14:53Speaker 2: games or as few as two by the end of
- 14:54Speaker 2: the weekend against the trash Cans. Three games in Houston.
- 14:58Speaker 2: We're gonna talk at ten. We're talk live to Randy Kocher.
- 15:01Speaker 2: He's Coture, he's the former US Army sergeant in MMA legend,
- 15:06Speaker 2: a six time UFC champion, and Everett and Native. This
- 15:10Speaker 2: weekend he's doing his annual charity motorcycle ride and fundraiser
- 15:13Speaker 2: raises money for the Wounded Warriors Foundation, a cause that
- 15:16Speaker 2: I'm familiar and have friends that have started that. The
- 15:19Speaker 2: Wounded Warrior Foundation a great cause. We'll talk to Randy Kutcher,
- 15:22Speaker 2: the MMA legend, at ten forty five about that eleven
- 15:26Speaker 2: o'clock you're gonna hear from Aiden Hubbard. Why because he's
- 15:29Speaker 2: a undrafted rookie edge rusher defensive end from Northwestern and
- 15:33Speaker 2: I think has a real chance to be the next
- 15:35Speaker 2: UDFA to make this roster because of the position he plays.
- 15:38Speaker 2: His versatility is putting his hand on the ground as
- 15:40Speaker 2: a defensive end. He's running off the edge as an
- 15:42Speaker 2: edge rushing pass rusher, fifth all time in Northwestern in sacks.
- 15:46Speaker 2: Playing in the Big ten. You'll hear from Aiden Hubbard.
- 15:49Speaker 2: His head's swimming on some of the scheme stuff. You'll
- 15:52Speaker 2: hear from him. He's a big night for him tomorrow
- 15:54Speaker 2: night when he plays his first NFL game ever. Aiden
- 15:56Speaker 2: Hubbard at eleven o'clock, eleven thirty, we'll reback your text
- 15:59Speaker 2: and the talkbacks to come a Dodge text line. It's
- 16:01Speaker 2: four nine four to five one, or the iHeartRadio app
- 16:04Speaker 2: or our website nine three three KGr for the red
- 16:06Speaker 2: button that you can have talkbacks that Jessman loves.
- 16:10Speaker 5: Yes, please because Greg might get busy during that eleven
- 16:13Speaker 5: thirty segment if Mike McDonald is talking during that time,
- 16:17Speaker 5: So please make your voices more than mine.
- 16:20Speaker 2: There you go, Thanks for the plug. There you go. Yeah,
- 16:23Speaker 2: up next. Our friend Jorry Epstein was out at Seahawks
- 16:27Speaker 2: camp yesterday, the senior NFL reporter for Yahoo Sports. Those
- 16:29Speaker 2: you remember my show in twenty twenty four with Chris Kid,
- 16:32Speaker 2: Remember we had Jory on throughout the NFL season. We're
- 16:34Speaker 2: gonna do it again this fall. By popular demand, We're
- 16:37Speaker 2: bringing Jory back to be a weekly segment. She's been
- 16:40Speaker 2: all over training camps. She's been at the Rams the
- 16:42Speaker 2: day before she came to Seahawks. He's been at the Steelers,
- 16:45Speaker 2: the Bears, the Colts, the Packers. She's going to the
- 16:46Speaker 2: forty nine Ers tomorrow. Jorry Epstein I talked talked to
- 16:50Speaker 2: her yesterday about what she saw with the Rams, the
- 16:52Speaker 2: Aaron Donald situation, her impressions of the Seahawks, what she
- 16:55Speaker 2: thinks of Aaron Rodgers' last season in Pittsburgh. We'll talk
- 16:58Speaker 2: to Joy next on ninety three point three KJRFM. Back
- 17:11Speaker 2: here at Sea Oxy training camp from ninety three point
- 17:13Speaker 2: three KJRFM. Happy to be doing in person for a
- 17:15Speaker 2: change by Jorry Epstein, a senior NFL writer for Yahoo Sports.
- 17:20Speaker 2: I usually I'm on the phone with her during the
- 17:22Speaker 2: NFL season. She'll be on again our show during the
- 17:25Speaker 2: season two, but now she's in person from the East Coast,
- 17:27Speaker 2: making a trip west for training camps. Hethough, ma'am great.
- 17:31Speaker 11: To be on with you, Greg, and'm happy to be
- 17:32Speaker 11: in person.
- 17:33Speaker 2: Let's see where often exactly you just came from RAMS camp. Yes,
- 17:37Speaker 2: your impressions. First of all of the RAMS, I know
- 17:40Speaker 2: is a lighter practice for them, but one is Aaron
- 17:42Speaker 2: Donald coming and two today as good as advertised.
- 17:46Speaker 11: Yeah, I mean, I think that it's kind of funny
- 17:48Speaker 11: that on one hand they're by far the most likely
- 17:49Speaker 11: team to win the Super Bowl. On the other hand,
- 17:51Speaker 11: when you look at the oddsers basically like an eighty
- 17:53Speaker 11: four percent chance they don't and the Super Bowl has
- 17:55Speaker 11: such his life in the NFL, they look really good.
- 17:58Speaker 11: I mean from an offensive standpoint. Matthew Staff it wasn't
- 18:00Speaker 11: even practicing last training camp because of his back. Now
- 18:02Speaker 11: he is practicing. You've got a lot of the same
- 18:04Speaker 11: returning pieces. And then you add Miles Garrett, who I
- 18:07Speaker 11: talked to yesterday, and he is ready to roll. I
- 18:09Speaker 11: mean they were saying, oh, there's a play where it's like, yeah,
- 18:11Speaker 11: he jumps it. There's kind of a screen pass perimeter,
- 18:13Speaker 11: and they're like, oh, you can't jump that because then
- 18:15Speaker 11: you're out a position for the next play. And then
- 18:17Speaker 11: a few days later he does it, he gets the interception,
- 18:19Speaker 11: and you kind of realize you can't make rules for
- 18:20Speaker 11: Miles Garrett like that. I do think Aaron Donald is coming.
- 18:24Speaker 11: I think that they're giving him his time. They want
- 18:25Speaker 11: to make sure that he is psychologically ready, not just
- 18:28Speaker 11: to come play eight game, but to come play let's say,
- 18:30Speaker 11: thirty plays defensive pass rush type situation throughout the year.
- 18:34Speaker 11: Miles Garrett's very excited. He told me that they're talking
- 18:36Speaker 11: every three to four days and checking in on each other.
- 18:38Speaker 5: So I think he'll play.
- 18:39Speaker 11: I don't know when this decision's coming.
- 18:41Speaker 2: Though, He's smart enough not to come in the middle
- 18:43Speaker 2: of training camp. Wait till August is over.
- 18:46Speaker 11: I would say, yeah, there are a couple multiple teams
- 18:48Speaker 11: that need veterans, and they're like, these guys don't need
- 18:50Speaker 11: training camp.
- 18:51Speaker 3: He's working out.
- 18:52Speaker 2: So you think more of a thirty snap type of
- 18:54Speaker 2: role for at least starting out or maybe the whole
- 18:56Speaker 2: season for Aaron Donald.
- 18:57Speaker 11: I mean, obviously if you get to the playoffs and
- 18:59Speaker 11: you advance deep different. But I think for them, they're like,
- 19:01Speaker 11: let's use him in obvious passing down situations. That's what
- 19:04Speaker 11: we should do to keep him fresh. Given his body
- 19:07Speaker 11: and given that, Yeah, I think he's still in great
- 19:08Speaker 11: shape if you look at the videos online, but he
- 19:10Speaker 11: hasn't played in two years. He is a little bit older.
- 19:12Speaker 11: That's how he'll be able to best impact the team.
- 19:15Speaker 2: How about McDuffie wats in the back. It changed the secondary,
- 19:18Speaker 2: which was one of their weak spots. That has to
- 19:21Speaker 2: be by just edition better than they were last year.
- 19:24Speaker 11: Yeah, you got McDuffie, you got Jalen Watson, so both
- 19:26Speaker 11: of Kansas City's corners. And when I talked to Seattle
- 19:29Speaker 11: offensive coordinator Brian Florida, and I was like, what do
- 19:31Speaker 11: you think when you see these changes and everyone's like
- 19:33Speaker 11: the Rams are basically doing these to stock Seattle. He
- 19:35Speaker 11: was like, we don't play them until Christmas. Who's preparing
- 19:37Speaker 11: for Christmas in August other than my wife?
- 19:39Speaker 3: So that will be going in a story I know.
- 19:41Speaker 2: Who sports exactly. That's a good quote, better than I
- 19:44Speaker 2: can get from Barge Fleury. Did they talk about the
- 19:47Speaker 2: Seahawks down there the Rams?
- 19:49Speaker 11: Yeah, they talked about them there. And I'll also say
- 19:51Speaker 11: I was in Cleveland last week talking to Jared Veru, who,
- 19:54Speaker 11: of course I went to Cleveland in the trade with
- 19:55Speaker 11: the Rams. Got some excitement here at practice, And when
- 20:00Speaker 11: Jared Birch said when he called the team together during
- 20:02Speaker 11: OTZ to tell him I'm leaving, he was like, all
- 20:04Speaker 11: I want you to do.
- 20:04Speaker 3: Is beat the Seahawks.
- 20:05Speaker 11: I hate the Seahawks. So I would say across the league,
- 20:08Speaker 11: the target is on Seattle's back.
- 20:10Speaker 2: Jared Vers's that's the guy in that trade. The Seahawks
- 20:13Speaker 2: coaches notice was leading. They game planned a lot for
- 20:15Speaker 2: him when he was with the Rams. All right, Joey,
- 20:18Speaker 2: you've been here for what eight hours? You're impression of
- 20:21Speaker 2: the Seahawks a Super Bowl champion training cap. The running
- 20:26Speaker 2: back situation is the big iffy here, especially with Jadari
- 20:28Speaker 2: and price being down, but your first snaps, your first
- 20:31Speaker 2: impressions are the champs.
- 20:32Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it's interesting.
- 20:33Speaker 11: I'm listening, of course, to y'all's interviews with all your
- 20:35Speaker 11: coaches before I do this.
- 20:36Speaker 3: When you're talking to.
- 20:37Speaker 11: Brian Floory and he's saying, I like a two running
- 20:39Speaker 11: back set because of how few offenses are running that
- 20:42Speaker 11: right now, and so it's harder for the defenses to
- 20:44Speaker 11: prepare for. I do think that can help to me. Obviously,
- 20:46Speaker 11: there's the players. Obviously you need players healthy, but I
- 20:48Speaker 11: think there's also schematic ways you can get an edge.
- 20:50Speaker 11: It seems like Seattle has that. Defensively, you lose some
- 20:53Speaker 11: guys around the league, but I do think you are
- 20:54Speaker 11: turning up with the leaders that I'm not worried about.
- 20:56Speaker 11: And when I look at Sam dard Old, Jackson Smith, Njigma,
- 20:58Speaker 11: among others, I mean, it looks very clean, and you
- 21:01Speaker 11: see different practices depending on how new the coaches are,
- 21:03Speaker 11: how new the players are around the league. I would
- 21:05Speaker 11: say this is one of the cleaner practices I've seen.
- 21:08Speaker 2: How about the pace or just the conduct of practices
- 21:11Speaker 2: compare I don't go to RAMS camp. Compare to the
- 21:14Speaker 2: Rams how they conduct practices compared to this.
- 21:16Speaker 11: Yeah, it's funny because I was there for a jog
- 21:19Speaker 11: through for the Rams, so I'll compare to some other teams.
- 21:21Speaker 11: But I do think when you look at it, like
- 21:22Speaker 11: the Cowboys were moving pretty quickly the other day, but
- 21:24Speaker 11: when I went to Minnesota, of course it's day one,
- 21:27Speaker 11: they're not moving as quickly. I always say that when
- 21:29Speaker 11: I go to Detroit, which I didn't this year, but
- 21:31Speaker 11: I did the two prior. I think Dan Campbell is
- 21:33Speaker 11: playing full games in practice during the time, and I
- 21:36Speaker 11: anticipate seeing that when I go to San Francisco on Sunday.
- 21:39Speaker 3: And there are certain coaches.
- 21:40Speaker 11: Around the league who believe, hey, we got to save
- 21:41Speaker 11: the players' bodies and work on their minds, and other
- 21:43Speaker 11: coaches who say, I want them to be as physical
- 21:45Speaker 11: as possible. I recognize it's going to.
- 21:47Speaker 5: Be a war of attrition.
- 21:47Speaker 11: I'm willing to risk that, but they usually do have
- 21:49Speaker 11: injuries because of that or more injuries.
- 21:51Speaker 2: You were in Kittsburgh's camp and Latrow where, of course
- 21:55Speaker 2: Aaron Rodgers is in the final season his career. You've
- 21:57Speaker 2: chronicled his career for decades. What's he looks like? You
- 22:01Speaker 2: is he fully engaged and is this Mike McCarthy Aaron
- 22:05Speaker 2: Rodgers reunion that I do.
- 22:07Speaker 11: I think it's really interesting that the way that everyone
- 22:09Speaker 11: described them to me when I'm there is like they're
- 22:11Speaker 11: an old married couple. I ask different players, ones like
- 22:14Speaker 11: you know a couple that got divorced and then remarried.
- 22:16Speaker 11: Mike McCarthy told me, why if we were a married
- 22:18Speaker 11: couple in Green Bay, we're an old married couple now.
- 22:20Speaker 11: But there is kind of this element of in meetings,
- 22:22Speaker 11: they're constantly being like, hey, that protection from O six
- 22:25Speaker 11: No or twenty four protection? Should we run that again?
- 22:27Speaker 11: And really going down memory lane. I think Mike McCarthy
- 22:30Speaker 11: understands Aaron Rodgers well enough to know what at forty
- 22:33Speaker 11: two years old, he's going to be able to do
- 22:35Speaker 11: to best help the Steelers. I think he's also it's
- 22:37Speaker 11: a huge shot for guys like TJ. Watt who have
- 22:39Speaker 11: always had Mike Tomlin. And again going back to the
- 22:41Speaker 11: styles of practice, Mike Tomlin was very physical, very tough.
- 22:45Speaker 11: Mike McCarthy's like, we're not tackling during practice, So there
- 22:48Speaker 11: are a lot of changes up there. But I do
- 22:49Speaker 11: think that this is a team that kind of needed
- 22:52Speaker 11: some changes. You need to shake things up sometimes and
- 22:54Speaker 11: we'll see how it goes.
- 22:56Speaker 2: You think that's this is a one year deal with
- 22:59Speaker 2: Aaron Rodgers, obviously, I think he's even said he's not
- 23:02Speaker 2: playing beyond this year. Will Howard or whatever their quarterback
- 23:05Speaker 2: situation are they stunting their future for winning now the Steelers.
- 23:09Speaker 11: I think Will Howard and Drew Aller both need a
- 23:11Speaker 11: little time to develop. I think I'm excited to see
- 23:13Speaker 11: what Will can do in the preseason games. And I
- 23:15Speaker 11: talked to him while I was there, and I do
- 23:16Speaker 11: think that he had a finger injury during training camp
- 23:19Speaker 11: last year, so be healthier now to have spent it
- 23:21Speaker 11: year learning from Aaron, I think he really has that
- 23:24Speaker 11: ability to show what he can do. But I think
- 23:27Speaker 11: it would be disingenuous to say that at this stage
- 23:29Speaker 11: of Drew and Will's career, there what Aaron Rodgers is.
- 23:32Speaker 11: I'm not saying Aaron Rodgers is one hundred percent of
- 23:33Speaker 11: his MVP. But if he really leans into his mind
- 23:35Speaker 11: and less tries to lean into his legs, I do
- 23:37Speaker 11: think he can do it. So I don't think they're stunting,
- 23:40Speaker 11: but I do think they need to have enough from
- 23:42Speaker 11: will to this year and Drew Aller as well to understand, Hey,
- 23:44Speaker 11: twenty twenty seven quarterback class is supposed to be really deep,
- 23:47Speaker 11: really loaded. Do we want one of those guys or
- 23:49Speaker 11: do we have the guy.
- 23:49Speaker 3: In the building.
- 23:50Speaker 2: You think the Steelers are a playoff team, I.
- 23:53Speaker 11: Have no clue what to do with that division because
- 23:55Speaker 11: it's just so much turnover with new head coaches in Cleveland,
- 23:57Speaker 11: Baltimore and Pittsburgh. I think that they have the ability
- 24:01Speaker 11: to be a playoff team, but I really want to
- 24:03Speaker 11: see all the pieces work together before I understand.
- 24:05Speaker 2: So like a speed round here with Jerry F. Stott
- 24:07Speaker 2: Yahu's Sports on ninety three point three KJFMTCRX training camp vikings.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Have we seen the end of JJ McCarthy in Minnesota
- 24:15Speaker 2: now that Kyler Murray's the starter? And how it looking
- 24:19Speaker 2: in retrospect that decision to let Sam Donald go and
- 24:22Speaker 2: put your stock in JJ McCarthy. How much did that
- 24:24Speaker 2: set back Minnesota in years and.
- 24:27Speaker 3: Definitely set back Minnesota and not have Sam Donald.
- 24:29Speaker 11: I think that the nuanced does sometimes forget is that
- 24:31Speaker 11: Minnesota thought they were gonna let Sam Donald leave, not
- 24:34Speaker 11: because they didn't like him. But because they didn't like
- 24:35Speaker 11: him at the prist point that Seattle was willing to
- 24:37Speaker 11: pay and Minnesota thought Daniel Jones would still be in
- 24:40Speaker 11: the building, and then Daniel Jones said, actually, I'm going
- 24:42Speaker 11: to Indianapolis.
- 24:43Speaker 3: He was a free agent.
- 24:43Speaker 11: He had that ability, but they thought they'd be able
- 24:45Speaker 11: to keep one of the two made a risk that
- 24:47Speaker 11: didn't work out. I think that it's easier to start
- 24:50Speaker 11: with Kyler Murray, who has been named the starting quarterback,
- 24:52Speaker 11: and then go to JJ McCarthy if it doesn't work,
- 24:54Speaker 11: and start with JJ and go to Kyler growth. So
- 24:56Speaker 11: I think the next question is how does Kyler look.
- 24:58Speaker 11: I think Kevin O'Connell really believes that Kyler is the
- 25:01Speaker 11: most athletic and most dual threat quarterback he will have
- 25:03Speaker 11: coached in this league so far. But there's still going
- 25:06Speaker 11: to be some growing Kay's really The other thing in
- 25:07Speaker 11: Minnesota is they feel like Frank Smith coming in, who
- 25:10Speaker 11: has that kind of Shanahan background, is going to impact
- 25:12Speaker 11: the run game a lot. So I want to see
- 25:14Speaker 11: what they can do around the quarterback. And I think
- 25:16Speaker 11: in terms of JJ McCarthy, I'm I'm not sure he's
- 25:20Speaker 11: done there. But the great point that Albert Burer, one
- 25:22Speaker 11: of our colleagues in the industry, made was you can't
- 25:24Speaker 11: have these quarterbacks who don't want to come to Minnesota
- 25:26Speaker 11: as free agents because they think they're always going to
- 25:28Speaker 11: be short term jobs because of JJ McCarthy. So if
- 25:31Speaker 11: you don't believe in JJ McCarthy, you do have to
- 25:34Speaker 11: move on at some point, the same way the Colts
- 25:35Speaker 11: with Anthony Richardson and he's less of a threat, might
- 25:38Speaker 11: need to move on.
- 25:40Speaker 2: Joy just gave us a rundown about half the league
- 25:43Speaker 2: in eight minutes. That's pretty prolific. Thank you. That's just
- 25:46Speaker 2: a taste of what we'll have all season every week
- 25:49Speaker 2: with Jory Epstein of the Y'allhoo Sports. Thanks a lot.
- 25:52Speaker 2: We'll talk to you against her. Greg.
- 25:53Speaker 11: Great to be anti you, Looking forward to.
- 25:54Speaker 2: The next next More of some Seahawks training camp on
- 25:58Speaker 2: ninety three point three KJM HI, Welcome back, Happy Friday
- 26:28Speaker 2: to you right though. Seahawks trading camps and McIntire Becker
- 26:31Speaker 2: La Bay Studios at ninety two point three KGFM and
- 26:33Speaker 2: Seattle Seahawks are on the field practicing game tomorrow night,
- 26:37Speaker 2: first preseason game against Dallas at loominfield five pm. Jaradian
- 26:41Speaker 2: Price is on the field. He's with the offense, but
- 26:43Speaker 2: they are walking through in bucket hats and T shirts.
- 26:45Speaker 2: It's very very much a walk through. So I don't
- 26:47Speaker 2: think he's going to play the first round pick rookie
- 26:49Speaker 2: running back tomorrow night.
- 26:51Speaker 3: We need him healthy.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Yeah, No need to play him on August fifteenth when
- 26:55Speaker 2: he's supposed to be your number one running back. This
- 27:00Speaker 2: weekend is a big event that Randy Kutuur does. The
- 27:03Speaker 2: former US Army sergeant, MMA legend, pioneer and mixed martial
- 27:07Speaker 2: arts a six time UFC champion, every the ever native
- 27:12Speaker 2: every summer he does this event. It's an annual charity
- 27:15Speaker 2: motorcycle ride and fundraiser raises money for the hugely beneficial
- 27:19Speaker 2: cause of Wounded Warriors Foundation. I have friends that are
- 27:22Speaker 2: ex Army guys and West Point classmates of mine who
- 27:25Speaker 2: are in the Wounded Warriors Foundation, and Adam Silva and
- 27:28Speaker 2: the other guys that there are. That's good people, and
- 27:31Speaker 2: Randy Kature is good people and he joined us right now.
- 27:33Speaker 2: We're just honored to have him on the Beacon Plumbing hotline. Sir,
- 27:37Speaker 2: I can't call you, sir, you're a sergeant, thanks for
- 27:39Speaker 2: joining us special.
- 27:43Speaker 10: I think the appropriate response for that comment is, I
- 27:46Speaker 10: work for a living exactly.
- 27:48Speaker 2: I've heard that many times. Yes, indeed, Randy Kutcher tell
- 27:52Speaker 2: us about the event you're doing it, how you got
- 27:54Speaker 2: involved with Wounded Warrior projects, and how people can get involved.
- 27:59Speaker 10: Well, let's let's fix something real quick. It's not Wounded
- 28:02Speaker 10: Warrior project. This is my own foundation. The explain to
- 28:05Speaker 10: CGI Foundations. I'm actually not a big fan of Wounded Warrior.
- 28:10Speaker 10: They have six executives that are making six figures off
- 28:13Speaker 10: that five O, one C. Three. So yeah, I started
- 28:17Speaker 10: my own foundation for that for that just that reason.
- 28:23Speaker 10: Obviously served in the United States Army from maybe two
- 28:25Speaker 10: to eighty eight. There wasn't much going on back then.
- 28:27Speaker 10: To be honest, I'm a Cold War veteran now in
- 28:31Speaker 10: a different stage of my life, and certainly since nine
- 28:33Speaker 10: to eleven in the War on Terror, we've got a
- 28:35Speaker 10: lot of men and women coming back pretty messed up,
- 28:38Speaker 10: both physically and psychologically. And I went to Iraq, you know,
- 28:44Speaker 10: six for twelve days, spent twelve days on the ground there.
- 28:47Speaker 10: If went to six different bobs. Was an amazing experience
- 28:50Speaker 10: for me as a former soldier for sure, to see
- 28:53Speaker 10: a bunch of guys and gals that took the same
- 28:55Speaker 10: oath I took and now are putting it to work on,
- 28:59Speaker 10: you know, doing the And I never never had to
- 29:02Speaker 10: walk into a combat zone. I don't know what that
- 29:04Speaker 10: feels like. So very stark experience for me. And then
- 29:08Speaker 10: in seven we went to walk to Reading, Bethesda and
- 29:10Speaker 10: DC and we got to walk to Wars. We did
- 29:13Speaker 10: a big barbecue at the Fisher House, which is the
- 29:18Speaker 10: same thing as the Ronald McDonald House for military people.
- 29:23Speaker 10: That's mother's wives, fathers, caregivers that are there with their
- 29:27Speaker 10: loved ones who are being fixed back up. And that
- 29:31Speaker 10: was my first time on the wards, walking the wards
- 29:34Speaker 10: and meeting a bunch of men and women fresh off
- 29:36Speaker 10: the battlefield, you know, dealing with their wounds, getting back
- 29:40Speaker 10: up and running, and most of them couldn't wait to
- 29:42Speaker 10: get back to that combat zone, which was very was
- 29:46Speaker 10: amazing to me. Many of them amputees and learned to walk,
- 29:51Speaker 10: getting fitted for prosthetics. And I kept hearing story after
- 29:54Speaker 10: story about all My mom's car has been stuck in
- 29:56Speaker 10: the parking garage now for three months. We cannot or
- 30:00Speaker 10: to pay the tickets and she's got to go back
- 30:02Speaker 10: and keep the house, keep the job. So it was
- 30:07Speaker 10: infuriating for me as a former soldier, and I started
- 30:10Speaker 10: at five o't one c three then to start raising
- 30:12Speaker 10: awareness and some funds for some of these men and
- 30:15Speaker 10: women that have already made significant sacrifices to our way
- 30:19Speaker 10: alife in our country. So that's how it started back
- 30:22Speaker 10: in seven. I've been doing that for twenty one years now.
- 30:26Speaker 10: It's been amazing. The motorcycle poker runs have been a
- 30:29Speaker 10: big one for us. We're in five states now. We
- 30:32Speaker 10: have our first motorcycle poker run coming up in origionally
- 30:35Speaker 10: in South Carolina here in September, and obviously Vegas was
- 30:38Speaker 10: the og, the original at the gym with my gym
- 30:42Speaker 10: staff and friends that want to be part of this mission.
- 30:46Speaker 10: Pat Crosby started the chapter here in the Pacific Northwest.
- 30:50Speaker 10: He and I both wrestled for Coach k Speer at
- 30:53Speaker 10: Alderwood Junior High School and Pat came to one of
- 30:58Speaker 10: my events in Vegas and said, man, we need to
- 31:00Speaker 10: do one of these in the Northwest. There's a lot
- 31:02Speaker 10: of folks up there that could use this, and so
- 31:05Speaker 10: we started this six years ago year with Pat's help.
- 31:10Speaker 10: Lisa has now stepped up and taken over for Pat.
- 31:13Speaker 10: My staff from Vegas comes in vall and Scott, my
- 31:18Speaker 10: doo and vice president. They're up here helping Lisa get
- 31:22Speaker 10: everything set up. Sound Harley's been amazing. This is the
- 31:26Speaker 10: second year we will start and finish at Sound Harley,
- 31:29Speaker 10: Davidson and Marysville. Registration starts at nine thirty, will be
- 31:34Speaker 10: kick stands up by eleven, and we should have our
- 31:37Speaker 10: last bike in by three three thirty in the afternoon
- 31:42Speaker 10: on Saturday. Should be a great day of ride and
- 31:44Speaker 10: the weather's.
- 31:44Speaker 2: Going to be great.
- 31:45Speaker 10: There'll be lots of prises, raffles, auction items, and we
- 31:49Speaker 10: get best hand and worst hand for our poker run.
- 31:52Speaker 10: It's a motorcycle poker run.
- 31:55Speaker 5: Well, this sounds amazing. This is Justaman McIntyre. RANDI you're
- 31:58Speaker 5: joining us here, Randy, What I'd like to do because
- 32:02Speaker 5: I think then people hear your name, they want to
- 32:05Speaker 5: know more about you. Can you tell us because you
- 32:07Speaker 5: gave us the gap between you know, starting this event
- 32:11Speaker 5: and going back to your military career, but people know
- 32:14Speaker 5: you as a UFC champion when you were done with that.
- 32:18Speaker 3: What gravitated you to get into what you're doing now.
- 32:23Speaker 10: Well, I grew up right here. I was born in
- 32:26Speaker 10: Providence Hospital in Everett, Washington. I grew up in Lynnwood.
- 32:30Speaker 10: I went to all Theowood Junior High School Lynwood High
- 32:32Speaker 10: School class in nineteen eighty one. We have our forty
- 32:35Speaker 10: fifth high school reunion on Saturday after the ride, which
- 32:39Speaker 10: is going to be amazing. So many friends that I
- 32:42Speaker 10: haven't seen in a long long time. But this where
- 32:45Speaker 10: I started. I had a family on the way at
- 32:48Speaker 10: eighteen years old, and I joined the United States Army
- 32:50Speaker 10: to support that family. My son Ryan was born in
- 32:54Speaker 10: August in nineteen eighty two, and I left for basic
- 32:58Speaker 10: training that October. Very formative time in my life, nineteen
- 33:03Speaker 10: to twenty five years old, War Green and I think
- 33:07Speaker 10: I look at the world in a particular way because
- 33:09Speaker 10: of that, And that was the impetus and motivation for
- 33:13Speaker 10: me in a different stage in my life now. And
- 33:15Speaker 10: I have an opportunity to give back to so many
- 33:17Speaker 10: of those men and women that took the safe same
- 33:19Speaker 10: oath I took and had to actually put it on
- 33:22Speaker 10: the line. And here we are, twenty one years later,
- 33:28Speaker 10: still running this foundation. A one hundred percent get back organization.
- 33:32Speaker 10: They're all family and friends. They're already employees that work
- 33:35Speaker 10: for me, So we don't have any overhead other than
- 33:38Speaker 10: what our events caused us to put on. And one
- 33:42Speaker 10: hundred percent of everything that we raise on Saturday is
- 33:45Speaker 10: going to go in the hands of a soldier.
- 33:47Speaker 5: And his family and well, one hundred percent get into
- 33:50Speaker 5: how people can get involved. But can you talk about
- 33:52Speaker 5: your UFC career? That was the gap that I was
- 33:54Speaker 5: referring to.
- 33:57Speaker 10: Yeah, you know, fak UFC I did for a while.
- 34:02Speaker 10: You know, I started fighting in ninety seven. I've been
- 34:05Speaker 10: wrestling since I walked on that mat with Coach Ksepeer
- 34:08Speaker 10: in the seventh grade here at Oldowood Junior High School.
- 34:11Speaker 10: I've been wrestling since I was eleven, and I saw
- 34:15Speaker 10: several of my friends from the wrestling world that were
- 34:19Speaker 10: that were trying this crazy sport of mixed martial arts
- 34:23Speaker 10: or no holds barred as it was called back then.
- 34:26Speaker 10: The sports started hearing the US in ninety three. I
- 34:29Speaker 10: walked out of that tunnel the first time in ninety
- 34:32Speaker 10: seven in Augusta, Georgia for UFC thirteen. It was a
- 34:37Speaker 10: heavyweight tournament. It was still a tournament back then, I
- 34:39Speaker 10: thought twice that night and was successful, won the heavyweight tournament.
- 34:44Speaker 10: That put me in a super fight against Vietor Belford,
- 34:47Speaker 10: who was pretty much tearing everybody up at that time.
- 34:50Speaker 10: And then I nobody, you know, at thirty four years old.
- 34:54Speaker 10: Everybody thought I was going to get my ass whip
- 34:56Speaker 10: by this nineteen year old stud and it didn't go
- 35:00Speaker 10: that way.
- 35:02Speaker 3: Well, yeah, we can see ye.
- 35:04Speaker 10: That put me in a title fight. So literally, yeah, literally,
- 35:07Speaker 10: in my fourth show, my fourth fight, my third show,
- 35:10Speaker 10: I'm fighting for a world championship. I was like, what
- 35:13Speaker 10: the heck just happened? That was insane, but that started
- 35:17Speaker 10: started the ball rolling. I left my coaching job at
- 35:21Speaker 10: Oregon State and pursued fighting full time from that point
- 35:26Speaker 10: on and had a fourteen year career fighting for the
- 35:30Speaker 10: UFC from nineteen ninety seven to twenty eleven. I won
- 35:35Speaker 10: six championship titles fighting for the UFC. So it was
- 35:41Speaker 10: it was an amazing experience and an incredible journey.
- 35:44Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a go ahead, Greg.
- 35:46Speaker 2: This is the voice of Randy Chore Everett, native US
- 35:49Speaker 2: Army veteran and of course the UFC MMA legend, joining
- 35:53Speaker 2: us talking about his ride for troops his foundation puts
- 35:55Speaker 2: on around the country, and the one in the Pacific
- 35:57Speaker 2: Northwest is tomorrow Saturday afternoon. He's joining us on a
- 36:00Speaker 2: beacon plumbing hotline. And now we know why he's a
- 36:03Speaker 2: legend for far more than his MMn fighting. I was
- 36:05Speaker 2: going to ask you real quick, how has the sport changed,
- 36:08Speaker 2: Randy since you were a pioneer in it a back
- 36:12Speaker 2: way early and it's in its symphancy, and how it
- 36:15Speaker 2: is today, how different it is?
- 36:21Speaker 10: Okay, let me see if I can try. My first
- 36:24Speaker 10: fight UC thirteen was in Augusta, Georgia at the Civic
- 36:28Speaker 10: Center there. We had way ins in the lobby at
- 36:31Speaker 10: the Holiday Inn in Augusta, and that was the first
- 36:34Speaker 10: time I got to see the guys that would be
- 36:36Speaker 10: fighting that next night. I think there were more fights
- 36:40Speaker 10: in the stands that night in Augusta than there were
- 36:43Speaker 10: in the cage. It was a completely different crowd. It
- 36:47Speaker 10: was more of the tractor polk crowd. They were giving
- 36:49Speaker 10: away a lot of the tickets just to get butts
- 36:52Speaker 10: in the seats, and then you know it was there
- 36:55Speaker 10: was only a couple of rules in the sport. Back then.
- 36:58Speaker 10: There were four rules. You couldn't I goug you could
- 37:00Speaker 10: and fish hook, you couldn't grow and strike, and you
- 37:02Speaker 10: couldn't couldn't throat strike.
- 37:04Speaker 8: That was it.
- 37:05Speaker 10: Wear shoes, don't wear shoes where a GI, don't wear
- 37:07Speaker 10: a g wear gloves, don't wear a glove. You could
- 37:10Speaker 10: pretty much do anything else you wanted in this sport.
- 37:14Speaker 10: Now with pay per view, and you know, the weigh
- 37:18Speaker 10: ins are in the arenas the day before and they
- 37:20Speaker 10: are packed there. There are thousands of people that just
- 37:23Speaker 10: come to the way in UH. It's become the fastest
- 37:27Speaker 10: growing sport on the globe. UH internacally, lots of organizations,
- 37:32Speaker 10: organizations popping up all over the place. Obviously the Japanese market,
- 37:36Speaker 10: the Brazilian market, and the American market are the three biggest,
- 37:41Speaker 10: but Europe and some of the other countries are catching
- 37:44Speaker 10: up very very quickly. So it's been on a crazy
- 37:48Speaker 10: journey to see the sport which was looked at as
- 37:51Speaker 10: a fringe sport. You know, everybody thought we were crazy,
- 37:54Speaker 10: that we were criminals because we got in the cage
- 37:56Speaker 10: and fought each other UH and that obvious. See that
- 38:00Speaker 10: stigma has gone away and it's changed significantly. People see
- 38:04Speaker 10: it for the combative sport and the kinetic chess match
- 38:07Speaker 10: that it is.
- 38:07Speaker 5: Now well, Randy Kutur who is joining us here, and
- 38:11Speaker 5: Jessamin McIntyre with Greg Bell. And the last thing I
- 38:15Speaker 5: wanted to ask is if those who can get out
- 38:18Speaker 5: there and support you, and those who might not be
- 38:20Speaker 5: able to get out there, how can they support as well.
- 38:24Speaker 10: Anybody that wants to support can go to xcgif dot
- 38:29Speaker 10: org and there's a donation button there. Any veteran in
- 38:34Speaker 10: this community or anywhere within listening distance to this conversation,
- 38:39Speaker 10: there's a portal there for support as well. You need
- 38:42Speaker 10: some counseling services. You've got a bunch of bills on
- 38:44Speaker 10: your back that are driving you crazy. Show me your
- 38:47Speaker 10: DD two fourteen and we will take that. Take those
- 38:51Speaker 10: bills off your back. We will pay them and get
- 38:53Speaker 10: them off your cut, alleviate that stress from your system.
- 38:58Speaker 3: Amazing.
- 38:59Speaker 10: No, that's what you can find us if you want
- 39:01Speaker 10: to support us. So, if you need some assistance, the
- 39:03Speaker 10: ride starts. Registration starts tomorrow at Sound Harley Davidson in
- 39:07Speaker 10: Marysville at nine thirty and we should be kicked fans
- 39:11Speaker 10: up by eleven.
- 39:14Speaker 2: Randy, you're a good man obviously of this for so
- 39:17Speaker 2: much more true army man. Appreciate your spirit from one
- 39:20Speaker 2: army man to another, but you're doing far more. I'm
- 39:22Speaker 2: most of the sports talk radio and you're changing lives.
- 39:25Speaker 2: I appreciate you. Thanks for joining us, Thanks for getting
- 39:27Speaker 2: back home and doing this event. For it all the
- 39:29Speaker 2: best to everything you do. Appreciate you.
- 39:33Speaker 10: Appreciate you as well. Thank you very much. You guys
- 39:35Speaker 10: have a great day. Look forward to seeing everybody on Saturday.
- 39:40Speaker 2: Go Army Randy katura UFCMMA.
- 39:42Speaker 5: Thank you Randy.
- 39:44Speaker 2: It's gonna be at sound Harley Davidson tomorrow in Marysville.
- 39:47Speaker 2: He has said get there around what he say, nine
- 39:50Speaker 2: o'clock and the kickstands up by noon or by eleven
- 39:53Speaker 2: am for his ride for the troops. He does it
- 39:56Speaker 2: around the country. He's stopping in the Northwest, his native Northwest,
- 39:59Speaker 2: and every native heard him say, I went to high
- 40:01Speaker 2: school in Lynnwood to Alderwood Middle School. Well, he's a legend.
- 40:04Speaker 2: He's a legend in the UFC world. He was in
- 40:07Speaker 2: the ground for you heard him talking about how it
- 40:09Speaker 2: was just steel cage matches and it looked like it
- 40:12Speaker 2: was in Neanderthals in there and now it's a it's
- 40:14Speaker 2: bigger than boxing, obviously.
- 40:15Speaker 5: Yeah, that's why I'm so glad that you asked him
- 40:18Speaker 5: about the way that it's changed, because and even though
- 40:21Speaker 5: I was asking about the gap, like tell us more
- 40:23Speaker 5: about that, maybe I should have led him a little
- 40:25Speaker 5: bit more into I want to know about the career
- 40:29Speaker 5: that you had in between then, But it seems like
- 40:31Speaker 5: that's not the top thing on his mind.
- 40:34Speaker 2: Yeah, it sounds like he's all for how the sport
- 40:37Speaker 2: has changed and how it has become accepted, and for
- 40:40Speaker 2: the arts of it and the athleticism of it. And yeah,
- 40:44Speaker 2: Randy Contoor is a legend in that realm, and now
- 40:46Speaker 2: he's a legend in communities serving the veteran communities. And
- 40:50Speaker 2: it's so needed, man, it's so needed. I've seen a
- 40:53Speaker 2: lot friends of mine that that need it. He's right,
- 40:57Speaker 2: it was a different army when he and I was
- 40:58Speaker 2: in we're in the army compared to what it became
- 41:01Speaker 2: with the deployments and the desert storm and all of that. Man,
- 41:06Speaker 2: hats off to randytre If you miss our interview with him,
- 41:08Speaker 2: you can go to the iHeartRadio app downloaded for free.
- 41:10Speaker 2: Go to nine through three KGr or to our website
- 41:12Speaker 2: nine through three KGr dot com and Greg Bill Show
- 41:14Speaker 2: will have the podcast up later today. Randy Katur, if
- 41:18Speaker 2: you can get out there tomorrow, go to the sound
- 41:20Speaker 2: Harley Davidson in Marysville. Ride for the Troops tomorrow morning,
- 41:25Speaker 2: and Randy Katur, the UFC legend ever native, will be
- 41:28Speaker 2: there up next here from Seahawks chaining camp, where I'm
- 41:31Speaker 2: just stationed for the rest of time.
- 41:33Speaker 5: It feels like, Oh, you got your pencils and your notebooks, Greg,
- 41:39Speaker 5: you are back to school.
- 41:41Speaker 2: The Aiden Hubbard, I think he's gonna be the one
- 41:44Speaker 2: of the undrafted rookies, the newest undrafted rookie to make
- 41:47Speaker 2: this fifty three man roster because of where he plays
- 41:49Speaker 2: and how he plays. He's an edge rusher, defensive end
- 41:52Speaker 2: from Northwestern, one of the best sack guys Northwestern had
- 41:56Speaker 2: in the Big Ten ever in its history. Aiden Hubbard
- 41:59Speaker 2: is gonna have a huge night tomorrow night in the
- 42:01Speaker 2: Seahawks preseason game against Dallas. You'll hear from him next
- 42:05Speaker 2: from Seahawks training camp on ninety three point three KJRFM.
- 42:29Speaker 1: Now from the Star Rentals Sports Tests. Your ninety three
- 42:32Speaker 1: point three KJRFM Sports Headlines.
- 42:36Speaker 2: Hi from Seahawks Headquarters. Headlines have brought to you by
- 42:38Speaker 2: Frostbreed Corps Light Choose Chill. Seahawks are practicing right now
- 42:42Speaker 2: in T shirts and walk through mo before their game
- 42:44Speaker 2: tomorrow night, first preseason game against Dallas by PM at
- 42:47Speaker 2: Lumenfield King five Television locally. Truly a walk through practice,
- 42:51Speaker 2: but still Jenarian Price is on the field with the offense.
- 42:54Speaker 2: I don't expect him to play tomorrow. He's had upper
- 42:56Speaker 2: legs SORENAS coach Mike McDonald says he's missed five the
- 42:59Speaker 2: last in practice, the only two Price, the first round pick,
- 43:02Speaker 2: has practiced in. We're winning these T shirt walk through grills,
- 43:06Speaker 2: so I don't expect him to play tomorrow. The Super
- 43:08Speaker 2: Bowl champions are expected to sign free agent quarterback Terry
- 43:11Speaker 2: on Arnold at an NFL source told me in The
- 43:13Speaker 2: News Tribune yesterday. Perhaps that could happen as soon as
- 43:17Speaker 2: today or the next couple days. Former Lions started, a
- 43:21Speaker 2: former first round pick two years ago, had an arraignment
- 43:24Speaker 2: hearing in Tampa, Florida. Recently, he pleaded not guilty to
- 43:28Speaker 2: eight felony charges forty for kidnapping in Burglary. It's going
- 43:33Speaker 2: to be a one year deal, I'm told, and the
- 43:35Speaker 2: Seahawks could retain restricted rights free agency rights for next year,
- 43:39Speaker 2: so they could get terry On Arnold at a minimum
- 43:42Speaker 2: salary for the next two years if he's exonerated, like
- 43:45Speaker 2: they obviously must think he is. To go this far,
- 43:48Speaker 2: maren has won. They actually won first time in seven
- 43:51Speaker 2: games just they want to let Yankee Stadium, thanks to
- 43:53Speaker 2: a Weston Wilson midgame home run. Weston Wilson, of all people,
- 43:58Speaker 2: game's only run because Mary's only women. They hit on runs.
- 44:00Speaker 2: Logan Gilbert about four hits and six scoreless innings. Really
- 44:04Speaker 2: good start for him. Bizardo Ferrer Munos also with one
- 44:08Speaker 2: scoreless enning eights. Munnos has two strikeouts in a perfect
- 44:11Speaker 2: nine for his twenty first save. The Mariners are now
- 44:13Speaker 2: eight games under five hundred, five games out of first
- 44:16Speaker 2: place in the AL West. They can change that this
- 44:18Speaker 2: afternoon because they're in Houston for a three game series
- 44:21Speaker 2: against the first place trash Cans five to ten. First
- 44:24Speaker 2: pitch George Kirby for the Mariners tonight Saturday, four to ten.
- 44:27Speaker 2: Emerson Handcock starts for the ms Sunday four to twenty.
- 44:30Speaker 2: Bryan lou starts the series finally in Houston. That's on
- 44:33Speaker 2: eight NBC. In Peacock is the Sunday night game. Mariners
- 44:36Speaker 2: demoted rookie shortstop Cold Emerson to Triple A Tacoma that
- 44:40Speaker 2: one ninety with the Mariners since his call up earlier
- 44:42Speaker 2: this season. Of course, he has the guaranteed ninety million
- 44:44Speaker 2: dollar contract. Fernando Mendoza ten for sixteen ninety seven yards,
- 44:48Speaker 2: the first overall pick in the draft, last night, in
- 44:50Speaker 2: his first NFL game, played four drives for the Raiders
- 44:53Speaker 2: in the preseason game against the Cardinals. Raiders coach Klin
- 44:56Speaker 2: Kubiak s out of the rookie number one pick, I
- 44:58Speaker 2: see an ascending player. Sounders Vancouver white Caps seven thirty
- 45:02Speaker 2: Sunday at Lumenfield, Casscadia a Cup MLS derby right here
- 45:05Speaker 2: on ninety three point three KGr. Tonight at seven pm
- 45:08Speaker 2: at Lumenfield, the Rain play Chicago in the National Women's
- 45:11Speaker 2: Soccer League match the Storm seven wins twenty eight losses,
- 45:15Speaker 2: two games at Climate Pledge Arena this weekend. Tonight they
- 45:18Speaker 2: host WNBA expansion the Portland Fire at Climate Pledge Arena
- 45:22Speaker 2: Sunday afternoon, the Storm hosts the Chicago Sky I'm back
- 45:35Speaker 2: here at Seaorks training camp with eight and Hubbard. He's
- 45:37Speaker 2: an rookie free agent outside linebacker edge rusher from Northwestern
- 45:41Speaker 2: He's from Cleveland, Ohio, Saving Nacius High School.
- 45:43Speaker 8: Hello, sir, thanks for joining us, Thanks for having me.
- 45:46Speaker 2: You're welcome and first training camp in the NFL. There's
- 45:50Speaker 2: always something that you haven't had before. What it's been
- 45:52Speaker 2: your biggest channel, biggest surprise?
- 45:54Speaker 6: So for I said, just like the overall strength of
- 45:58Speaker 6: the players, and there's a lot.
- 46:00Speaker 12: Out in the NFL, So adjusting to that's been a
- 46:05Speaker 12: bit challenging, but I can feel myself improving each day.
- 46:09Speaker 2: How does the strength to show up when you're going
- 46:11Speaker 2: against an offensive line of a tight end.
- 46:13Speaker 12: Or they're just stronger at the point of attack with
- 46:16Speaker 12: their blocks in their hands. So learning how to be
- 46:19Speaker 12: more physical and like more technical is the biggest thing.
- 46:24Speaker 2: What's been your biggest challenge playbooks, speed to the game, NFL.
- 46:28Speaker 12: Life, What have you found challenging? I'd say speed of
- 46:31Speaker 12: the game, and just like the overall way of life,
- 46:36Speaker 12: you have more free time and more time to like
- 46:39Speaker 12: be on your own.
- 46:39Speaker 6: You don't have to worry.
- 46:40Speaker 12: About classes or anything like that like you did in college,
- 46:44Speaker 12: So that adjustment's kind of been tough.
- 46:47Speaker 6: And then being far from home.
- 46:50Speaker 2: Mike McDonald's system is that intricate for you? Is that
- 46:53Speaker 2: something you're a little bit familiar with? The changing at
- 46:55Speaker 2: the snap? The one word commands that he.
- 46:57Speaker 12: Does, how challenging is that we did similar things in college,
- 47:02Speaker 12: a lot of simulated pressures like we do here. So
- 47:06Speaker 12: not to challenge, I mean, it's definitely there's a lot
- 47:09Speaker 12: of calls and a lot of different types of defense,
- 47:11Speaker 12: So I've been getting more comfortable with as campus proceeded.
- 47:17Speaker 2: You're calling cards as an outside linebacker's ed rusher the
- 47:20Speaker 2: fifth most sex in Northwestern history. What role are they
- 47:22Speaker 2: having you do here? Are you doing more dropping into coverage?
- 47:25Speaker 2: You're more all around outside linebacker? Are you primarily edge
- 47:28Speaker 2: rushing too?
- 47:29Speaker 12: I'd say it's primarily like on the edge and being
- 47:33Speaker 12: someone who can rush the passer. And then they've also
- 47:36Speaker 12: helped me and gotten me to rush interior, So that's
- 47:40Speaker 12: something that.
- 47:41Speaker 6: Will be new for me, but a good challenge.
- 47:43Speaker 2: Whats the What is the challenge of that at this
- 47:46Speaker 2: level of inside rushing, inside rushing answers.
- 47:48Speaker 6: Everything happens so much faster.
- 47:50Speaker 12: The offensive lemons interface a lot quicker than they are
- 47:54Speaker 12: on the edge.
- 47:54Speaker 6: So that's new to me.
- 47:56Speaker 2: But I've been getting better and that's just a hand
- 47:59Speaker 2: on the grounds end. Yes, just to do them multiple
- 48:03Speaker 2: city is what McDonald wants, of course, and it's players.
- 48:06Speaker 2: You said you did some of it at Northwestern. Was
- 48:08Speaker 2: that considered to be intricate? Was that something hard to
- 48:12Speaker 2: learn there? To simulate the pressures and the changes and
- 48:15Speaker 2: things of the snap.
- 48:17Speaker 12: I mean, everything's challenging at first, but is the more
- 48:20Speaker 12: you do it and the more reps you get, the
- 48:23Speaker 12: easier it becomes. And then you start to pick up
- 48:25Speaker 12: on things the offense are doing and how.
- 48:27Speaker 6: To combat that.
- 48:29Speaker 2: This team has been right now aiden for veterans helping
- 48:34Speaker 2: younger guys.
- 48:35Speaker 8: Who have you learned from the most?
- 48:36Speaker 6: What have they taught you?
- 48:38Speaker 12: I'd say just to Marcus Lawrence, he's been hopeful. He's
- 48:44Speaker 12: been in the league for me ten eleven years now.
- 48:47Speaker 12: But just as his advice, it's it's not crazy, intricate,
- 48:53Speaker 12: simple advice that matters, and it just shows that at
- 48:57Speaker 12: the end of the day, it is still a simple game.
- 49:00Speaker 2: He's been like thirteen years thirty four years old. He
- 49:02Speaker 2: has six children. Can you imagine being thirteen year pro
- 49:06Speaker 2: in this league and see him so far away? Yeah? Ayden,
- 49:11Speaker 2: how we'd joining us here from Seahawks Traine Camp. He's
- 49:13Speaker 2: the rookie free agent outside linebacker. A lot of people
- 49:16Speaker 2: think will be the next rookie free agent to make
- 49:18Speaker 2: this team. They always have team the Seahawks have rookie
- 49:22Speaker 2: free agents make their roster.
- 49:23Speaker 8: Was that a factor when you signed here? And what
- 49:25Speaker 8: other options did you have after the draft?
- 49:29Speaker 12: It was a factor, but I didn't really like realize
- 49:32Speaker 12: that there was that kind of history here. Tho was
- 49:36Speaker 12: just like the best place for me to come him.
- 49:38Speaker 12: After the draft, talked a lot with special teams coordinator
- 49:42Speaker 12: and Jay, so that was encouraging.
- 49:45Speaker 2: Did you know him from before anything, the big ten
- 49:48Speaker 2: circles or common links.
- 49:49Speaker 6: Between I didn't know the previous to the draft process.
- 49:53Speaker 2: He's known as an innovator in special teams already.
- 49:56Speaker 12: What have you noticed about him? I mean it just
- 49:58Speaker 12: comes down to a fundamental and technique we harp on
- 50:03Speaker 12: every meeting, and when you have good fundamentals and technique,
- 50:07Speaker 12: you make good plays.
- 50:08Speaker 8: What teams are you on so far in camp?
- 50:11Speaker 12: I mean everyone's kind of working on each team, so
- 50:16Speaker 12: I should be getting a few reps at in every
- 50:19Speaker 12: phase on special teams.
- 50:22Speaker 2: Cleveland Stati Nations High School, Aiden Hubbard was it all
- 50:25Speaker 2: two time All State in Ohio. I can tell you
- 50:27Speaker 2: that's not easy to do. Having played high school football
- 50:29Speaker 2: in Ohio. You also played basketball. How far did you
- 50:32Speaker 2: get in basket? Was that's the serious consideration for college
- 50:35Speaker 2: for you?
- 50:35Speaker 6: Oh?
- 50:35Speaker 12: No, not really, I was just doing it have another
- 50:40Speaker 12: sports play in high school. I stopped after my junior year, though.
- 50:43Speaker 2: I saw you were recruited and offered by Washington State
- 50:47Speaker 2: University the coops, but it never got really far.
- 50:49Speaker 8: He said, that was doing the COVID years.
- 50:52Speaker 12: Yeah, I was recruited like in twenty nineteen, twenty twenty,
- 50:56Speaker 12: so that was right when COVID spucked.
- 50:59Speaker 6: So there was no as that's or anything. Allow.
- 51:01Speaker 2: How did it get to you chose Northwestern? Did you
- 51:05Speaker 2: choose you in the quality of the education playing in
- 51:07Speaker 2: the Big Ten? What were the factors in choosing Northwestern?
- 51:10Speaker 10: So?
- 51:10Speaker 6: I grew up in Ohio and I was just grew
- 51:13Speaker 6: up watching Big Ten football all the time.
- 51:15Speaker 12: Ohio State was on and I knew I wanted to
- 51:18Speaker 12: play in Big Ten, and I didn't get like the
- 51:22Speaker 12: big offers that I dreamed of.
- 51:24Speaker 6: But at the end of the day, I got an.
- 51:28Speaker 12: Offer from Northwestern, which is a top ten university playing
- 51:31Speaker 12: in the Big Ten, and I don't regret it at all.
- 51:33Speaker 12: It was like the best decision in my life. So
- 51:36Speaker 12: very grateful for that opportunity.
- 51:38Speaker 8: Well, I was it the best decision of your life?
- 51:40Speaker 6: The people I met there just unbelievable.
- 51:43Speaker 8: So what did you study?
- 51:45Speaker 6: It was a business.
- 51:47Speaker 2: Would you like to do something with that or is
- 51:49Speaker 2: their interest outside of football? You degree related?
- 51:52Speaker 6: I'm not sure, kind of just focused on football at
- 51:54Speaker 6: the moment.
- 51:56Speaker 8: And you played a fifth year graduate school year.
- 51:59Speaker 2: They called it with questionn did your maturation any maturation
- 52:03Speaker 2: out of college football players play five or six years?
- 52:05Speaker 2: But can you describe your maturation as a person as
- 52:07Speaker 2: a player. It's just a human being from your freshman
- 52:10Speaker 2: year in Chicago and Northwestern to fifty year senior.
- 52:14Speaker 12: Yeah, I man, you come in as a high school
- 52:17Speaker 12: or basically and you're looking at it. I mean, it's
- 52:21Speaker 12: honestly somewhere to this position I'm in now. So you
- 52:24Speaker 12: walk into college and you don't really know what's going on.
- 52:27Speaker 12: And then coming into you go through those five years
- 52:31Speaker 12: and you develop a lot and you feel very confident,
- 52:34Speaker 12: and then you get here in your rookie again, it's
- 52:36Speaker 12: that same feel them all over again.
- 52:38Speaker 6: So this period is a period of growth and it
- 52:43Speaker 6: helps to becoming better.
- 52:44Speaker 10: Man.
- 52:45Speaker 2: I see you taking the helmets and shoulder bads off
- 52:47Speaker 2: the field as rookies have to do for your position,
- 52:49Speaker 2: or what other rookie hazing type of things.
- 52:52Speaker 8: If you had to endure so far in camp.
- 52:55Speaker 6: Nothing too bad.
- 52:55Speaker 12: They just the d line like these mountain valley waters,
- 53:00Speaker 12: so we have to buy those for them.
- 53:02Speaker 6: But Iron Mass hasn't been too bad.
- 53:05Speaker 2: You haven't gone to El Galchia Dinners yet or anything
- 53:07Speaker 2: that's been too hotly indo yet.
- 53:10Speaker 8: That's maybe coming.
- 53:13Speaker 2: So Saturday night, your first NFL game at the preseason game,
- 53:16Speaker 2: the Seahawks play the Dallas Coups. Aid and Hubbard, his
- 53:19Speaker 2: rookie free agent at dresser defensive end, talking to us.
- 53:23Speaker 8: You're expectator, you excited.
- 53:25Speaker 2: It's still a preseason game for but for you, this
- 53:27Speaker 2: is real, this is your audition to make the team.
- 53:30Speaker 12: I'm just very grateful for the opportunity to do the
- 53:33Speaker 12: best I can just see what happens.
- 53:36Speaker 2: Are just standing, gacious, people going to be watching. You
- 53:38Speaker 2: got anybody come flying out for it?
- 53:40Speaker 12: Or yeah, I've got my sister and my girlfriend are
- 53:43Speaker 12: coming out from Cleveland from Chicago.
- 53:45Speaker 6: From Cleveland, so it'd be very nice I have them here.
- 53:48Speaker 8: Your girlfriend? Is that your high school go?
- 53:51Speaker 6: Yeah, I've been together since like then of high school.
- 53:53Speaker 8: You have took it a prom in high school in
- 53:56Speaker 8: the bed? How did you?
- 53:58Speaker 2: How did you do?
- 53:58Speaker 8: Where did she go score? Did she stay in Cleveland?
- 54:00Speaker 8: Or what was she doing while you were at Northwestern?
- 54:02Speaker 6: She was in school in Boston at Holy Cross.
- 54:05Speaker 5: Oh?
- 54:06Speaker 8: Okay, what's her name?
- 54:08Speaker 6: Grace Solta's and Grace how do you soccer?
- 54:12Speaker 13: Oh?
- 54:12Speaker 2: She's a college athlete as well. And does she live
- 54:15Speaker 2: in Boston area, Worcester, Mass or usually be now back
- 54:17Speaker 2: in We're both from Cleveland. She's back in Cleveland.
- 54:21Speaker 8: How did you do that? Boston and Chicago long distance
- 54:24Speaker 8: has Division one athletes.
- 54:25Speaker 6: It's not easy, you know, you miss the person you
- 54:28Speaker 6: love every day you still do so that parts stuff.
- 54:33Speaker 2: He talked to her every day. Yeah, and she's coming
- 54:36Speaker 2: out Saturday. So how does that tell the listeners for
- 54:39Speaker 2: an NFL player? For rookie, how do you get to
- 54:42Speaker 2: see her on Friday? Is there downtime? Do you get
- 54:45Speaker 2: to see her after the game? How between your schedule
- 54:48Speaker 2: and being able to socialize on a game weekend?
- 54:50Speaker 12: Yeah, I mean it's new for me, so I'm not
- 54:52Speaker 12: really sure yet what to expect, but hopefully I get
- 54:55Speaker 12: to see her more than a couple hours.
- 55:00Speaker 8: It never your goals? What have you based on?
- 55:04Speaker 2: It's still early and you're still swimming in the fog
- 55:07Speaker 2: and they talk about the fog of rookies learning.
- 55:09Speaker 8: First of all, where are you on that fog? Do
- 55:11Speaker 8: you think is any of it making sense yet?
- 55:15Speaker 2: The game plan or not the game, but the the
- 55:18Speaker 2: playbook and the schemes and the speed of the game
- 55:21Speaker 2: that you talked about, Is any of its slowing down
- 55:23Speaker 2: or is it still pretty much a.
- 55:24Speaker 6: Blur for you?
- 55:27Speaker 12: More and more you get to do it easier it becomes,
- 55:30Speaker 12: but yeah, it's still difficult, and those good days and
- 55:33Speaker 12: bad days you kind of.
- 55:35Speaker 6: Just have to keep trying to sugress upwards.
- 55:41Speaker 2: Trajector production in games is huge for rookies in your situation,
- 55:47Speaker 2: what goals do you have?
- 55:48Speaker 8: Are you setting personal goals? Is it pressure, is it sacks?
- 55:51Speaker 10: Or what?
- 55:52Speaker 8: Do you what are these games.
- 55:54Speaker 6: Value to you?
- 55:55Speaker 10: Yeah?
- 55:55Speaker 12: I mean I think it just comes down to showing
- 55:57Speaker 12: up on the tape as many ways spawn special teams
- 56:01Speaker 12: with your effort, Sean, how hard you play and as
- 56:05Speaker 12: well as making plays so trying to affect the quarterback
- 56:08Speaker 12: as best as possible, and showing up in the wrong
- 56:11Speaker 12: game as well.
- 56:13Speaker 2: Aiden Hubbard Saturday night Seahawks and Cowboys first preseason game,
- 56:16Speaker 2: his first big chance to make a splash and make
- 56:19Speaker 2: the Seahawks team as a rookie free agent from Northwestern
- 56:22Speaker 2: in Cleveland, Ohio.
- 56:22Speaker 8: Thanks for joining us, A good luck to you.
- 56:24Speaker 3: You're welcome, all right.
- 56:26Speaker 5: That is Greg Bell with Aiden Hubbard maybe one of
- 56:29Speaker 5: the hidden gems of this Seahawks training camp, and we'll
- 56:33Speaker 5: be excited to watch a bunch more. Greg is obviously
- 56:38Speaker 5: juggling two things at once right now, and he is
- 56:40Speaker 5: out after Seahawks practice had ended. And it's not necessarily
- 56:45Speaker 5: a practice practice. It's a walkthrough, and that's why we're
- 56:49Speaker 5: not allowed to talk about it, because.
- 56:51Speaker 3: That's where the magic is made.
- 56:54Speaker 5: And we might see formations we might see who's with
- 56:57Speaker 5: the ones, who's with the twos, and they're getting ready
- 57:00Speaker 5: for their first preseason game, and we don't want to
- 57:02Speaker 5: give anything away to any opponents. So anyway, Greg is
- 57:06Speaker 5: out there probably badgering Mike McDonald, head coach of the Seahawks,
- 57:12Speaker 5: Mike McDonald for a little more information. But what I
- 57:16Speaker 5: really did like about Aiden there was his honesty and
- 57:20Speaker 5: his openness.
- 57:21Speaker 3: And sure little soft spoken.
- 57:23Speaker 5: I know some of you have chimed in on that,
- 57:26Speaker 5: but I'd prefer to have the player on the field
- 57:29Speaker 5: speak for himself rather than be the perfect interview. So
- 57:33Speaker 5: I do get it that you didn't hear all that
- 57:35Speaker 5: much enthusiasm because.
- 57:38Speaker 3: You don't really know him. And what I really really
- 57:41Speaker 3: liked from mister.
- 57:43Speaker 5: Hubbard was hearing about how he and his long distance
- 57:47Speaker 5: also d one athlete girlfriend made things work during their
- 57:51Speaker 5: college careers. Again, this is Jessamin McIntyre. Greg Bell is
- 57:55Speaker 5: out at Seahawks training camp. This is the Greg Bell Show.
- 57:58Speaker 5: And another thing I want to remind you is the
- 58:01Speaker 5: Randi Couture interview that we had earlier. There is a
- 58:05Speaker 5: ride for our troops that he is putting on. We
- 58:07Speaker 5: taught to him at ten forty five and for a
- 58:11Speaker 5: gentleman who had served in the army and then gone
- 58:14Speaker 5: to the UFC, which he kind of skipped over and
- 58:17Speaker 5: I had to make him go back and talk about it.
- 58:20Speaker 5: But yeah, six time UFC champion and now does things
- 58:25Speaker 5: to give back to the troops. He called himself a
- 58:28Speaker 5: Cold War veteran, which was an interesting way to describe
- 58:32Speaker 5: himself as a UFC champion, and he is a veteran,
- 58:36Speaker 5: but he didn't have to get deployed, and I just
- 58:41Speaker 5: thought that the fact that he never got deployed was
- 58:46Speaker 5: just speaks a little more volume to him what he's
- 58:49Speaker 5: doing now giving back and it's really special.
- 58:53Speaker 3: So you should check that out.
- 58:55Speaker 5: It's happening locally here in Marysville this weekend on Tomorrow
- 58:59Speaker 5: actually Saturday, Yes, but you can also google it and
- 59:04Speaker 5: find it out. They have a Facebook page and if
- 59:06Speaker 5: you're not able to make it out, there are multiple
- 59:10Speaker 5: ways to donate as well. This is a fundraiser. It's
- 59:13Speaker 5: a five O three C so it's all on the
- 59:17Speaker 5: up and up, so if you guys want to get
- 59:19Speaker 5: out there. Also, also with everything that we've discussed today,
- 59:24Speaker 5: Jadarian Price was out there. It was a walk through.
- 59:27Speaker 5: Greg Bell does not expect him to play this weekend.
- 59:30Speaker 5: I don't either, So that's another takeaway from Seahawks practice
- 59:35Speaker 5: to that we're seeing today. But Jedarian Price being out
- 59:39Speaker 5: there is a good sign, but it doesn't mean you'll
- 59:42Speaker 5: see him in the first Seahawks preseason game. The one
- 59:46Speaker 5: thing that I'm going to ask of you guys right
- 59:48Speaker 5: now is please please send me some talkbacks because Greg
- 59:53Speaker 5: is out there at the Virginia Mason Athletics Center. I'm
- 59:56Speaker 5: stuck here back at the studio, which is lovely on
- 1:00:00Speaker 5: the shores of Elliot Bay and all, but I'm lonely.
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: I don't have anyone here.
- 1:00:04Speaker 5: Ian Arnessa's coming up next, and he's out at the
- 1:00:07Speaker 5: Boeing Classic. By the way, go visit Bowingclassic dot com
- 1:00:11Speaker 5: because it is such a fun tournament and if you're
- 1:00:15Speaker 5: looking to get a little golf viewing in. It's very
- 1:00:18Speaker 5: family friendly. I think the get in price is like
- 1:00:20Speaker 5: twenty bucks and kids get in free. So definitely go
- 1:00:25Speaker 5: out and check that out. So talkbacks, text anything that
- 1:00:29Speaker 5: you guys heard on today's show that is coming up next,
- 1:00:33Speaker 5: And we really haven't even touched on the Mariners. They
- 1:00:36Speaker 5: won yesterday on a solo Homer, how you guys feeling
- 1:00:40Speaker 5: about that text in four nine four or five to one?
- 1:00:44Speaker 5: Also your talkbacks, iHeart Media app, iHeartRadio app. Just go
- 1:00:48Speaker 5: to your phone, hit that little red microphone and we'll
- 1:00:53Speaker 5: get to those next.
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: Thank you again. This is the Greg Bell Show.
- 1:00:56Speaker 5: I'm Jessaman McIntyre ninety three point three KJRFM.
- 1:01:22Speaker 14: Great your US cost card listener here. I'm okay with
- 1:01:26Speaker 14: the signing as long as everything turns out great, But
- 1:01:29Speaker 14: if it doesn't, you spent the money on dry On Arnold.
- 1:01:33Speaker 14: Now it looks bad on the team, looks bad on
- 1:01:37Speaker 14: the community that we signed somebody that could possibly be
- 1:01:40Speaker 14: going to prison for life. One of the Hawks really
- 1:01:45Speaker 14: must know something. But if it comes back, you could
- 1:01:48Speaker 14: have used that money for another player.
- 1:01:53Speaker 15: Hey, Jesmin, Greg, you know, it's kind of funny how
- 1:01:56Speaker 15: Hugh wants to go come down on Terry and Arnold
- 1:02:01Speaker 15: about how he performed in the Lions defense. It's like, dude,
- 1:02:06Speaker 15: Mike McDonald can make chicken salad out of chickens, Imagine
- 1:02:11Speaker 15: what he can do with Terry and Arnold, like in
- 1:02:14Speaker 15: that defense with all of those dogs. Come on, Terran
- 1:02:18Speaker 15: I want to see you get after the quarterback like
- 1:02:20Speaker 15: you got after the guys that didn't steal from you.
- 1:02:23Speaker 5: Welcome back to the Greg Bell Show. My name is
- 1:02:25Speaker 5: Jessamin McIntyre, and that is one of the topics that
- 1:02:28Speaker 5: we haven't got to the bottom of quite yet. It
- 1:02:31Speaker 5: does look like Terry and Arnold will be a member
- 1:02:34Speaker 5: of this Seahawks team if all reports indicate correctly.
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: We want to know what you think, because innocent tot
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: proven guilty, right, that is.
- 1:02:47Speaker 5: Exactly you know how the legal system works. How are
- 1:02:51Speaker 5: you guys feeling about it? Though Seahawks fans, you guys
- 1:02:54Speaker 5: have weight in we have from the four to two five.
- 1:02:58Speaker 5: Paul Johnson texted in, if it's true, what's horrible. But
- 1:03:01Speaker 5: the issue is how online we all are.
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: I'm with you on that one, Paul.
- 1:03:06Speaker 5: People are now presumed guilty rather than presumed innocent. I say,
- 1:03:09Speaker 5: sign him, let him have his time in court before
- 1:03:13Speaker 5: we call him guilty. I'm a little bit with that,
- 1:03:17Speaker 5: a little bit, uh And I do believe, as we
- 1:03:21Speaker 5: have talked about, that people do know a little bit
- 1:03:24Speaker 5: more than we do. Within the Seahawks organization. It's not
- 1:03:28Speaker 5: just to try out that they have him in with right.
- 1:03:31Speaker 5: They you know, my father's a football coach, and they
- 1:03:35Speaker 5: will do recruiting visits and sit down with families that
- 1:03:39Speaker 5: there are interviews that are involved.
- 1:03:41Speaker 3: They get to know the person.
- 1:03:43Speaker 5: I'm sure they heard his side of the story that
- 1:03:46Speaker 5: we perhaps did not hear, and I don't know.
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: If they believe it. I don't know how plausible it is.
- 1:03:53Speaker 5: I don't know if they talk to his lawyers, of
- 1:03:56Speaker 5: which I'm sure he has many former first round tracks
- 1:04:00Speaker 5: pick let's see the four two five says football will
- 1:04:04Speaker 5: always win. But based on the trust that John and
- 1:04:07Speaker 5: Mike have established, I trust our leadership.
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: You've had these go the other way. The eight charges though, gulp,
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: I'm with you. Four two five. It's a lot of charges.
- 1:04:19Speaker 5: And it does appear from reading the reports that he
- 1:04:23Speaker 5: might not have been directly involved. But as a ooh
- 1:04:28Speaker 5: a woman who listens to a lot of true crime podcasts,
- 1:04:32Speaker 5: there can always be an orchestrator behind things, and that
- 1:04:35Speaker 5: is the guilty person.
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: We don't know that.
- 1:04:37Speaker 5: Though we don't, it's not up to us to decide.
- 1:04:42Speaker 5: And apparently the Seahawks reportedly I should say reportedly, just
- 1:04:48Speaker 5: like the way we use in true Crime allegedly reportedly
- 1:04:52Speaker 5: are adding him as a member of this team.
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: We'll see how that goes.
- 1:04:57Speaker 5: Uh, let's to go to a different subject, because we
- 1:05:01Speaker 5: do have a couple other talkbacks.
- 1:05:05Speaker 6: I'm glad that we won.
- 1:05:07Speaker 16: It's a huge series coming up. I'm a gigantic Mariner fan.
- 1:05:11Speaker 16: My students have called me mister Mariner in the past
- 1:05:15Speaker 16: because I would wear something Mariners to school every day.
- 1:05:20Speaker 6: I don't have much faith.
- 1:05:22Speaker 16: In this series coming up.
- 1:05:23Speaker 6: The way this year has gone. I want to be wrong.
- 1:05:27Speaker 16: I don't often say that, but in this case, I
- 1:05:30Speaker 16: would love to be wrong.
- 1:05:32Speaker 6: Prove me wrong. Let's have some hope.
- 1:05:36Speaker 5: I would love to have hope right now. How about you, guys.
- 1:05:40Speaker 5: I'm down there quite a bit. I'm out at Mariners.
- 1:05:44Speaker 5: I see a lot of love in that locker room
- 1:05:46Speaker 5: or a clubhouse. I should say sorry, I'm between locker
- 1:05:49Speaker 5: rooms and clubhouses.
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: At the same time, but I I don't. I don't
- 1:05:57Speaker 3: see a lot of hope within it.
- 1:05:59Speaker 5: Right down I see a lot of angst and then
- 1:06:06Speaker 5: watching while they're on the road, watching these postgame pressers
- 1:06:10Speaker 5: that there's a lot of defeat in there, and there's
- 1:06:14Speaker 5: still a lot of season left. And it's not too late.
- 1:06:17Speaker 5: I always like to play the it's early card. Obviously
- 1:06:20Speaker 5: we can't do that now, but it's not too late
- 1:06:23Speaker 5: for them to do something. And this is a massive
- 1:06:26Speaker 5: series coming up within the division, as Greg likes to
- 1:06:29Speaker 5: affectionately call them, the trash Cans.
- 1:06:32Speaker 3: Oh, it's been tough.
- 1:06:35Speaker 5: It's been tough, and that ballpark still packs out. And
- 1:06:40Speaker 5: I'm not going to fault their marketing team or anything
- 1:06:45Speaker 5: that they do to make it a fun experience because
- 1:06:47Speaker 5: that's a completely separate part of the park. I get
- 1:06:50Speaker 5: Greg's frustration when it comes to I would rather see
- 1:06:55Speaker 5: winning than hot dogs from Heaven, sure, but why not both?
- 1:07:01Speaker 5: And it's not their fault if they do these wonderful
- 1:07:04Speaker 5: things to make it a really fun experience, especially when
- 1:07:07Speaker 5: families perhaps this is their one time to visit the ballpark.
- 1:07:12Speaker 5: They're one thing they plan that weeks months in advance
- 1:07:17Speaker 5: because it's not.
- 1:07:18Speaker 3: A cheap ticket.
- 1:07:20Speaker 5: And so I'm not going to fault the Mariners for
- 1:07:22Speaker 5: doing something that creates a lot of joy within the stadium.
- 1:07:28Speaker 5: Let's hear from our friend Jeremy. I'm not really sure
- 1:07:31Speaker 5: what point he's trying to make.
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: Hey, guess just want to stay. Hi, it's Jeremy. You
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: have a great weekend and that's all.
- 1:07:42Speaker 5: Well, okay, that's all, and that's all that matters.
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: Jeremy.
- 1:07:46Speaker 5: I hope you have a great weekend too, and thank
- 1:07:48Speaker 5: you for listening and just being a great supporter of
- 1:07:51Speaker 5: our shows here on kJ ARE. We have a couple
- 1:07:54Speaker 5: more talkbacks coming in and I do appreciate it. As
- 1:07:56Speaker 5: I said, Greg is out covering Mike McDonald's press comfort
- 1:08:00Speaker 5: right now.
- 1:08:02Speaker 3: And here we go another one on this new Seahawks signing.
- 1:08:09Speaker 17: Come Martin, Jeff question, could this just be a case
- 1:08:13Speaker 17: where he's twenty three years old and just young and stupid.
- 1:08:18Speaker 17: We've all been young and stupid. Now you may have
- 1:08:22Speaker 17: taken it to a higher level, but still does it
- 1:08:25Speaker 17: fall in the category of just being young and stupid?
- 1:08:28Speaker 5: Thanks, Young and stupid doesn't mean you get to get
- 1:08:32Speaker 5: away with crime.
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: I do appreciate that question.
- 1:08:36Speaker 5: Yes, young and stupid, But the Seahawks want to sign
- 1:08:39Speaker 5: young and smart. And in a case of there's fifty
- 1:08:44Speaker 5: three roster spots to fill at the end of the day,
- 1:08:47Speaker 5: obviously there's ninety out there right now, and then they'll
- 1:08:50Speaker 5: have practice squad spots. Obviously, I think they're fourteen now,
- 1:08:54Speaker 5: if I'm not mistaken, I don't think that excuses you
- 1:09:01Speaker 5: from crimes. You can be young and stupid and kill
- 1:09:06Speaker 5: somebody by making a bad decision.
- 1:09:09Speaker 3: You can be old and stupid.
- 1:09:12Speaker 5: I think that that crime looks like perhaps he was young,
- 1:09:17Speaker 5: stupid and surrounded himselves by the wrong people if he
- 1:09:20Speaker 5: is innocent, But young and stupid does not exist or
- 1:09:26Speaker 5: excuse things like this.
- 1:09:28Speaker 3: It just doesn't.
- 1:09:30Speaker 5: If he is found guilty, I will say that. So
- 1:09:34Speaker 5: I do appreciate the sentiment though, and it very very
- 1:09:39Speaker 5: well could be a case of young and stupid. It could,
- 1:09:44Speaker 5: but that does not mean that it's excusable.
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: So thank you for that. Let's see what else here
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: we got the.
- 1:09:57Speaker 5: The two O six says, tune into it's the Seattle
- 1:10:01Speaker 5: trash pandas against the Houston trash Cans.
- 1:10:04Speaker 3: What a headliner.
- 1:10:05Speaker 5: That could be fun. That could be fun. I could
- 1:10:11Speaker 5: absolutely see that. Oh man, where is simply Seattle when
- 1:10:15Speaker 5: you need them? I feel like they could really make.
- 1:10:18Speaker 3: A T shirt out of that. There could be a
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: really good emblem.
- 1:10:23Speaker 5: Trash pandas trash Cans. But what I really like about
- 1:10:27Speaker 5: it is because, like Jimothy would have the advantage because
- 1:10:30Speaker 5: he'd be eating out of the trash can as long
- 1:10:33Speaker 5: as the lid is kind of off.
- 1:10:35Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:10:35Speaker 5: Simply Seattle, just credit me for that one.
- 1:10:38Speaker 3: If you come up with it, let's go.
- 1:10:41Speaker 5: Keith Miller says, fans act like they have to pay
- 1:10:44Speaker 5: these contracts. If Arnold is a total blank bag, I
- 1:10:48Speaker 5: doubt he'd even get a sniff from the Hawks. If
- 1:10:50Speaker 5: he's not guilty, Hawks look like masterminds. If not, they're
- 1:10:54Speaker 5: in the same situation before entertaining him. Okay, you're right,
- 1:11:01Speaker 5: And like we've said so many times, it's always when
- 1:11:06Speaker 5: the Seahawks head office takes a call over, you know,
- 1:11:11Speaker 5: potential trades, anything like that. Seahawks were on office, they
- 1:11:16Speaker 5: have a phone line open. They will always take a call.
- 1:11:19Speaker 5: But all of a sudden the news gets out through
- 1:11:21Speaker 5: some sort of league and it's so and so's on
- 1:11:24Speaker 5: the trade block.
- 1:11:25Speaker 3: That is not always necessarily true.
- 1:11:29Speaker 5: After covering John Schneider for over sixteen years, I know
- 1:11:32Speaker 5: his ears are always open and that due diligence is
- 1:11:36Speaker 5: a process within that building and he is clearly the
- 1:11:40Speaker 5: one in charge of that. Plus the staff that he hires,
- 1:11:44Speaker 5: he trusts to do that. So that's a fair point.
- 1:11:49Speaker 5: And there's a trial that still has yet to happen,
- 1:11:52Speaker 5: so we will be fine or we will find out.
- 1:11:57Speaker 5: I meant to say, I'm sorry. Let's see two o
- 1:12:02Speaker 5: six quote you can hope in one hand and crap
- 1:12:07Speaker 5: in the other and see which one one's out first.
- 1:12:12Speaker 5: And that is a quote from Grumpy Old Men. Thank
- 1:12:15Speaker 5: you Stephen in Seattle. Well, guys, we'll see if Greg
- 1:12:19Speaker 5: will be back. Ian Furness is going to be live
- 1:12:22Speaker 5: from the Boeing Classic. I do appreciate all of your
- 1:12:25Speaker 5: interaction always always here, especially your talkbacks. I just really
- 1:12:33Speaker 5: love hearing your voices on the air instead of fine
- 1:12:35Speaker 5: reading them. But Ian Furness will be with us coming
- 1:12:39Speaker 5: up next. You're listening to ninety three point three KJRFM.
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: Hi, welcome back, Greig. Now that's the Mcatarren now being
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: for nests doing as from a Virginia Mason Athletic Center
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: where I just heard from coach Mike McDonald and we
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: talked and talked and talked again about why they signed
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: Terry on Arnold. They said it was an opportunity to
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: get a player that they loved. McDonald said, an opportunity
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: to get a cornerback that they highly rated and loved
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: out of the draft process when he was coming out
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: of Alabama a couple of years ago. He also said
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: that they don't know he McDonald's saying that they don't
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: know exactly how the timing of this is going to
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: work when he can join the team. He only confirmed
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: that they do have an agreement on a contract with him,
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: but they don't know exactly when he can join the team,
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: when he'll start practicing, when he could possibly play. They
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: don't even know yet the legal process in the NFL
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: on whether he will be able to play and when
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: for the Seahawks this year. He said they're respecting the
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: legal process of that. He avoided many other questions related
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: to the case in Florida of eight felony charges. He
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: said he talked to individual players. You can bet Devin
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: Witherspoon is one of them. You can bet that Jablen Milroe,
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: his colleague teammate at Alabama, was one of them. And
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: they people that they trust around the league, and they
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: got to read that they should do this, and he
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: said they are very mindful of the culture and they
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: believe that this is a place that he will thrive
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: Terry On Arnold, We'll see. We'll see when the jurisprudence
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: and we'll see what NFL Commissioner Roger Goodo whether he
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: puts him on the exemp list, which he has done
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: in the past, including with a Seahawk Quintin Dunbar, when
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: the Seahawks acquired him six or so years ago in
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: a similar situation where he was in a legal case
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: in Florida. So that's he didn't have a lot of
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: specifics on what the Seahawks view of the case was.
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: Ian Feriness joining me. Now your reaction to that, I mean,
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: you wouldn't expect him to say exactly what they know,
- 1:14:50Speaker 2: but he knows enough. They know enough to think that
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: HiT's worth signing him.
- 1:14:54Speaker 16: Now.
- 1:14:54Speaker 2: I tried to ask him what they know enough to
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: made him sign now. He wouldn't answer that, but they
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: wouldn't have signed him if they didn't.
- 1:15:00Speaker 13: I'm gonna, I'm gonna, I want I think maybe different.
- 1:15:05Speaker 13: I'm gonna think something different here to seem you'll dance
- 1:15:07Speaker 13: with me on this. I don't think because it's such
- 1:15:12Speaker 13: a low risk, like contract wise, right, like they don't
- 1:15:16Speaker 13: have to pay him. It's I'm assuming he's minimum, right,
- 1:15:18Speaker 13: minimum salary.
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: Yeah, it'll be a one year deal. I'm told it
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: should be above it, close to minimum.
- 1:15:24Speaker 13: I'm thinking it's like whatever, if he's exonerated and he's
- 1:15:29Speaker 13: and he's eligible to play, he's here, he's coming here.
- 1:15:32Speaker 13: We're gonna use our flex, our super Bowl defending super
- 1:15:34Speaker 13: Bowl champion. We got a great culture muscles. And you know,
- 1:15:38Speaker 13: it's kind of like because there are one of other
- 1:15:39Speaker 13: teams that would have been on him too right or
- 1:15:42Speaker 13: wanted him, but you okay, vote, yeah, I would. I
- 1:15:47Speaker 13: wonder if they really I want to give them credit
- 1:15:52Speaker 13: where credit's due. But I also think you said it
- 1:15:54Speaker 13: all the time, he's a great line. Football always wins out,
- 1:15:58Speaker 13: and I think in this case, it's like whatever, like
- 1:16:00Speaker 13: let's sign this guy and if he can play, and
- 1:16:01Speaker 13: if he's honerated, and if he's okay and he's not
- 1:16:03Speaker 13: like truly a felon who kidnapped and burger, you know,
- 1:16:07Speaker 13: and all these things, if they're not really true, then great,
- 1:16:09Speaker 13: he's with us. If we find out they are all true,
- 1:16:11Speaker 13: he's all of a sudden, it's going to trial. The
- 1:16:13Speaker 13: NFL says, no, we just wash our hands of it.
- 1:16:15Speaker 13: Thanks for coming. And I think it's a low risk
- 1:16:17Speaker 13: move for Seattle, low risk, high reward. What the hell,
- 1:16:20Speaker 13: let's take a shot. And these guys get the benefit
- 1:16:24Speaker 13: of doubt because they're John Schneider and and Peek and
- 1:16:27Speaker 13: and Mike McDonald. We also know that sometimes what they
- 1:16:31Speaker 13: say isn't necessarily what they do. Frank Clark right, so exactly,
- 1:16:36Speaker 13: I I kind of I kind of wonder too if
- 1:16:38Speaker 13: it's if it's, uh, we'll see, we'll see. What What
- 1:16:41Speaker 13: did he say about who's playing tomorrow?
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: Sam Donald is not playing, Price is not playing. I
- 1:16:47Speaker 2: don't think Derek Hall's playing. They weren't any He said
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: most of the regular starters won't play. He said that
- 1:16:51Speaker 2: Drew Locke will start, okay, Avin Roll will come in.
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: But they instead of just one guy finishing the game,
- 1:16:57Speaker 2: he says, they're going to rotate between those two and
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: really one'll come out and want'll come back in. He said,
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: that's what's different. Issue that they're going to do with
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: the quarterbacks interesting interest. Some of that may be because
- 1:17:05Speaker 2: they want more Brian Floury exposure to those two quarterbacks
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: and more for Brian Fleury to do as well. But yeah,
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: it's not gonna be like Lockos the next amount and
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: then Miller finishes the game. They're going to rotate that.
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: But Sam Darno will not play. He said that again.
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: That's why they do the joint practice next week for
- 1:17:21Speaker 2: when the starters do one on one. What starters would
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: you expect him to play? George Hallani's gonna play really
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: almost almost because he has to. But yeah, he said
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: he's gonna get some work tomorrow.
- 1:17:34Speaker 13: Again, what world are we living in when I'm concerned
- 1:17:38Speaker 13: about George Hallane playing in the preseason game, buddy, Like, seriously,
- 1:17:43Speaker 13: world post Kenneth Walker, Harden and everybody named Jones. They
- 1:17:48Speaker 13: got Jones at hard? Why did you play those three
- 1:17:50Speaker 13: guys just to help Jones?
- 1:17:52Speaker 2: Rookie from Auburn d J. Harden, Vellis Jones and George Hallane.
- 1:17:58Speaker 2: Emmanuel Wilson's not gonna play. He hasn't played. He hasn't
- 1:18:01Speaker 2: practiced last few days, so that's it. So that's probably
- 1:18:03Speaker 2: why he's gonna play.
- 1:18:05Speaker 13: God, I mean, honestly, if we're being honest, if you again,
- 1:18:10Speaker 13: this is a weird world we're living in. I'm gonna
- 1:18:12Speaker 13: say this out loud. They'd be in big trouble if
- 1:18:14Speaker 13: George Lane got hurt. I like George we had we
- 1:18:18Speaker 13: had him on the show, good dude and great story
- 1:18:20Speaker 13: and everything else.
- 1:18:22Speaker 10: Wow.
- 1:18:23Speaker 13: Okay, defensively, I would assume we don't see guys, right.
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: I can't imagine much of anything of the defense.
- 1:18:30Speaker 13: I think change on defense you don't need to do.
- 1:18:32Speaker 13: You don't need to play those guys. Nothing's changed, right, No,
- 1:18:35Speaker 13: and no, I don't.
- 1:18:36Speaker 2: I expect guys that have been with the ones who
- 1:18:38Speaker 2: I think will play tomorrow, Guys like Neamiah Pritchett, who
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: may be on the way out of his one spot
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: because if Arnold comes in and could play, and you
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: know Benogeny, who's been in the first team with the
- 1:18:49Speaker 2: nickel in the last week or so. The defense more
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: than before those guys. But yeah, the other regulars in
- 1:18:56Speaker 2: you're go see Witherspoon. You don't see Erins Jones, and
- 1:18:59Speaker 2: you're gonna see Len Williams. You're gonna get preseason football
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: at regular season prices tomorrow with none of this star
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: Probably Patio and Tyree Night at linebacker would think you know,
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: and and so forth. So Connor will get along. Look,
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: they've been looking at him a lot of calling back.
- 1:19:15Speaker 13: Yeah, yeah, yeah, well that's a good well, good stuff.
- 1:19:18Speaker 13: I uh, we'll see what ends up happening.
- 1:19:20Speaker 2: We uh.
- 1:19:21Speaker 13: I liked your interview with a fellow Army man, Randy Coture.
- 1:19:25Speaker 13: What a cool deal he was doing.
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: I know it did. I didn't get a chance to
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: ask what ms he was military, occupational specially he was
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: in the Army, but kicking ass and taking names. I
- 1:19:35Speaker 2: don't know that. Yeah, there was a code for that too.
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: What do you get today? Is it Danie O'Neil day?
- 1:19:41Speaker 13: Daniel O'Neil's coming on at one o'clock. Uh so we
- 1:19:43Speaker 13: got that coming up at one. We're going to check.
- 1:19:46Speaker 13: Cam Cleveland's going to join me at two today, your
- 1:19:50Speaker 13: Husky football analyst, former NFL tight end. He's actually working
- 1:19:54Speaker 13: with me on the national radio call tomorrow for the
- 1:19:57Speaker 13: preseason game.
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: So we'll That's why you're asked, who's play?
- 1:20:01Speaker 13: Yeah, I need honestly, I'll need your story later. But
- 1:20:03Speaker 13: I'm just trying to get a little head start here
- 1:20:05Speaker 13: on which guys I can start crossing off my chart.
- 1:20:09Speaker 13: But yeah, so Cam and I working together morrow, I
- 1:20:10Speaker 13: can't waste me a ton of fun. But we'll talk
- 1:20:12Speaker 13: about what you know, I mean as a former player. Uh,
- 1:20:14Speaker 13: you know what, because it's it's you know, people a
- 1:20:17Speaker 13: lot of people don't like preseason games. The funny thing
- 1:20:19Speaker 13: is when we look at the TV ratings on Monday, Gray,
- 1:20:21Speaker 13: guess what everyone's gonna be watching preseasons?
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: Right, That's how it works.
- 1:20:25Speaker 13: So we'll talk about as a former player, what what
- 1:20:28Speaker 13: he's going to be watching for tomorrow and how important
- 1:20:30Speaker 13: it is about things, you know, just things like the
- 1:20:32Speaker 13: new play callers for I mean Christian Walker, the new
- 1:20:35Speaker 13: play caller on defense for the for the Cowboys, and
- 1:20:37Speaker 13: the new play caller on offense Brian Fleury for the
- 1:20:40Speaker 13: for the Seahawks. And you know, even if you're not playing,
- 1:20:42Speaker 13: can you I'm gonna ask him, can you get something
- 1:20:43Speaker 13: out of it? You know, like like in just in
- 1:20:45Speaker 13: terms of getting to read, like if you're if you're
- 1:20:48Speaker 13: sitting there and you're you know, one of the defensive
- 1:20:50Speaker 13: guys for Dallas and their their defense. Dallas a weird team.
- 1:20:53Speaker 13: Like if they had any defense last year, they would
- 1:20:57Speaker 13: have been problem for people. The top five offense and
- 1:20:59Speaker 13: the worst scoring defense in the NFL. If they can
- 1:21:02Speaker 13: improve that, they might be a problem And at least
- 1:21:03Speaker 13: in the NFC East, so we'll talk to him. We'll
- 1:21:07Speaker 13: check in with Joe with he's gonna join us and

- 1:21:27Speaker 13: to the top of Tiger Mountain summit there and start
- 1:21:29Speaker 13: ticketing some of these semis. It was a semi, I
- 1:21:31Speaker 13: guess hit a motorcycle. Oh like I And and then
- 1:21:34Speaker 13: after they cleared it, we come across and these semis
- 1:21:37Speaker 13: they just bully their way in. They don't care. They'll
- 1:21:39Speaker 13: just run your ass over. They'll they'll fly up on
- 1:21:41Speaker 13: the right end.
- 1:21:42Speaker 2: It's bad. It's really bad up there. It's horrible. So yeah,
