- 0:01Speaker 1: He's more.
- 0:01Speaker 2: Mark's the Mark Simone Show on seven ten.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Woor Well, let's turn to the dean himself, the greatest
- 0:09Speaker 1: political analyst, the ball Boy. He's run a million campaigns,
- 0:12Speaker 1: He's run the most successful campaigns of all Ed Rollins.
- 0:16Speaker 1: How you doing pretty good?
- 0:18Speaker 2: Mark?
- 0:18Speaker 1: Are you good?
- 0:20Speaker 2: A lot of activity going on in the world. We
- 0:22Speaker 2: don't want to be sitting on white house today.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Well, let me ask you as the veteran of a
- 0:26Speaker 1: lot of white houses. These protests all over the streets,
- 0:28Speaker 1: all this video, all this stuff we're watching. Is this
- 0:30Speaker 1: hurting or helping the president?
- 0:34Speaker 2: Right now? It's undefined. I mean, I think some of
- 0:37Speaker 2: the things he's doing are very beneficial to the country.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Some of the things are distracting. I mean, his mission
- 0:43Speaker 2: has got to be Now we're really in the middle
- 0:45Speaker 2: of the start of the midterms, He's got to basically
- 0:49Speaker 2: give his party something to run on, and it has
- 0:52Speaker 2: to be something that they they're not gonna win on
- 0:55Speaker 2: battling Venezuela or changing the Iranian resolves or what have you.
- 1:00Speaker 2: It be. It's gonna be the economy and particularly healthcare,
- 1:03Speaker 2: and he's got to focus on that. I mean, the
- 1:05Speaker 2: sidebar things like getting rid of Powell on what have
- 1:07Speaker 2: you or part of the job as the president obviously,
- 1:11Speaker 2: but at the end of the day, it's not what
- 1:12Speaker 2: people want. People right now want to know you care
- 1:15Speaker 2: about me, and so you're promised you're going to fix
- 1:18Speaker 2: the economy for me. And that's what members of Congress
- 1:21Speaker 2: kinda have to deal with.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Yeah, they used to call that in Washington the Green
- 1:24Speaker 1: Bay diner test. You know, there was if you went
- 1:27Speaker 1: to green Bay, Wisconsin into a diner, is anybody talking
- 1:30Speaker 1: about this? And if they're not, it's not an issue.
- 1:32Speaker 2: So well in green Bay they're not talking about any
- 1:34Speaker 2: of the Green Bay losses, but you're absolutely right it is.
- 1:40Speaker 2: And when you got twenty two million people are going
- 1:42Speaker 2: to have their healthcare altered in the sense of paying
- 1:45Speaker 2: much higher rates for the insurance, that's a that's a
- 1:49Speaker 2: lot of activity out there.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Yeah, so Democrats want to pass this, you know, patch
- 1:55Speaker 1: the subsidies, extend the subsidies for in the year or two.
- 1:58Speaker 1: But doesn't that kind of hurt them in the midterms
- 2:00Speaker 1: If it's all taken care of, it's not.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Going to be taken care of. I mean, I don't
- 2:05Speaker 2: think it's going to get resolved unless the Republicans willing
- 2:07Speaker 2: to make some big change in their and their plans.
- 2:12Speaker 2: They're they're talking that was gonna be Another problem is
- 2:17Speaker 2: speak of Johnson's space. He is you know, he has
- 2:19Speaker 2: no majority. I mean, it's it's down of two votes.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Got to make sure everybody's there every day, uh, you know,
- 2:25Speaker 2: and their congressman died over the week over the last
- 2:27Speaker 2: couple weeks going to California.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Uh.
- 2:30Speaker 2: And the numbers are just you know, two or three
- 2:32Speaker 2: vote margins. You're always missing two or three voters in
- 2:35Speaker 2: the Congress, And so I think this task is very,
- 2:38Speaker 2: very difficulty.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Hey, I just getting back to these protests and all
- 2:41Speaker 1: the video we're seeing protesting, defund ice, all this stuff
- 2:45Speaker 1: that You've seen this a million times. Don't the Democrats
- 2:48Speaker 1: when they do this stuff, don't they end up always
- 2:50Speaker 1: overplaying their hand and going too far.
- 2:53Speaker 2: They do. But but you can't you can't bet on
- 2:56Speaker 2: the other side doing We have to worry about what's
- 3:01Speaker 2: going to help us, and I think we've got to
- 3:03Speaker 2: focus on the things that matter. You know. One of
- 3:05Speaker 2: the problems I think is that with immigration, obviously is
- 3:08Speaker 2: a critical issue for the president. You see a couple
- 3:10Speaker 2: of thousand guys and heavy military guard in Minnesota standing
- 3:15Speaker 2: around guarding a federal bill, and that doesn't make people
- 3:19Speaker 2: think we stopping illegals coming into the country. Maybe an
- 3:23Speaker 2: underlying part of it, but at the end of the day,
- 3:25Speaker 2: people want to see those guys out there on the
- 3:27Speaker 2: borders making sure that people are being we're here illegally
- 3:31Speaker 2: or improper arrested, and they want criminals rusted. They don't
- 3:34Speaker 2: want the ordinary guy who's been there for twenty thirty years,
- 3:36Speaker 2: who works in the market, works on the farms, who
- 3:38Speaker 2: may be here illegally harassed and drag through the fields.
- 3:43Speaker 2: I opplicated issue.
- 3:44Speaker 1: There's always issues, always problems. But when you agree that
- 3:47Speaker 1: you worked with Reagan, Nixon, everybody, when you agree the
- 3:50Speaker 1: president's having a very successful second term. Usually it's rough
- 3:53Speaker 1: the second term, but so far he's getting a lot done.
- 3:57Speaker 2: He's getting a lot done. This president's got the strongest
- 3:59Speaker 2: position any president I've seen in my lifetime, that presidential scholar.
- 4:03Speaker 2: When I haven't work for bringas if I worked for
- 4:05Speaker 2: several he has basically taken on a lot of things
- 4:10Speaker 2: and he's got great powers. The Congress has given him
- 4:14Speaker 2: to a certain extent give given them much of their power.
- 4:16Speaker 2: And I think to a certain extent, he's got to
- 4:18Speaker 2: make sure the things he does. He can't do everything
- 4:20Speaker 2: every day. You've got to make it to make sure
- 4:22Speaker 2: that your message is getting out. There is here the
- 4:24Speaker 2: five or three two things that are doing in the
- 4:26Speaker 2: healthy American public?
- 4:28Speaker 1: Yeah? So, and what about twenty twenty eight. Gavin Newsom
- 4:31Speaker 1: looks like the front runner, But what do you think?
- 4:34Speaker 1: He's the show horse, not the workhorse.
- 4:37Speaker 2: They say he's a show horse. And he's got severe
- 4:40Speaker 2: problems in California, financial issues and what have you. And
- 4:44Speaker 2: he hasn't a particularly good governor. But sometimes it's a
- 4:48Speaker 2: matter of change, you know. And he's getting attention at
- 4:51Speaker 2: this point in time. And you know, I think there'll
- 4:53Speaker 2: be several of the candidates that are running, so they're
- 4:55Speaker 2: gonna have a primary. We may have a primary too, though,
- 4:58Speaker 2: So I think at the end of the day, we
- 4:59Speaker 2: need to put becus on the mid term and put
- 5:01Speaker 2: up the next presidential lecture right now.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Yeah, but a couple of years out. You always see
- 5:05Speaker 1: some glamorous, good looking guy who's way out in front,
- 5:09Speaker 1: Gary Hart, John Edwards. But don't they always go down
- 5:12Speaker 1: in flames. They never end up with the nomination, do they.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Fortunately, fortune they happen up to this point in time
- 5:17Speaker 2: and sense. Yeah, I think the critical thing here is
- 5:23Speaker 2: there's so much on the plate right now. Let's make
- 5:26Speaker 2: sure we have full scale of candidates. We're still going
- 5:29Speaker 2: to see some small Republicans drop out. I mean they're
- 5:31Speaker 2: they're coming back from their home vacation, Christmas vacation, and
- 5:35Speaker 2: a lot of them got beat up pretty good by
- 5:37Speaker 2: their friends and family. You know, go back there and
- 5:39Speaker 2: do something. What's going on? If if you sat me
- 5:42Speaker 2: down today and you and I had luncheon said, I
- 5:44Speaker 2: hear that the worships and matter, what would they be? Could
- 5:48Speaker 2: you could do it? I could do it? It? Could the
- 5:50Speaker 2: public do it? That's the key thing here is you've
- 5:52Speaker 2: got to make sure you have a communication message. Uh,
- 5:55Speaker 2: here's what we're doing while we're doing it. You know,
- 5:57Speaker 2: getting rid of Chairman Powell or basically drag into the
- 6:00Speaker 2: course for overspending and building a building is not is
- 6:04Speaker 2: not what the country is focused.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Hey it Rose, Let me ask you something. The divisiveness,
- 6:10Speaker 1: the hatred. You know, if you have anything with Trump,
- 6:12Speaker 1: people won't talk to you they're screaming. When you were
- 6:15Speaker 1: working for Nixon or Reagan, it was divided then, But
- 6:17Speaker 1: was it that bad? We the people have refused to
- 6:19Speaker 1: speak to you because you were working for them.
- 6:22Speaker 2: No, U, And this is the worst I've ever seen it.
- 6:26Speaker 2: And I don't know, I don't know when it goes
- 6:28Speaker 2: back in the bottle again in the sense that we've
- 6:32Speaker 2: got to have some bipartisanship that you unless either side
- 6:35Speaker 2: winds big in the in the midterms, which you know,
- 6:38Speaker 2: I would say at this point in time, that's that's unlikely.
- 6:40Speaker 2: It's still going to be very divided Congress and somehow
- 6:43Speaker 2: you got to look to the public you're working together. Yeah,
- 6:47Speaker 2: we're not. We're not a parliamentary system where you know,
- 6:51Speaker 2: democracy and equally supportant. You know, we can't get military
- 6:55Speaker 2: to all these places. We've got a great military. We
- 6:58Speaker 2: need to build it up. But the big battles are
- 7:00Speaker 2: still Ahead's gonna be a budget battles. I mean, we
- 7:02Speaker 2: you know, we've still got the whole conflict has to
- 7:05Speaker 2: deal with the budgets. And that's that's gonna be a
- 7:07Speaker 2: real battle.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Yeah. Hey, today, later today, Bruce Blakeman gets inaugurated for
- 7:12Speaker 1: a second term county executive. I think he'd be he'd
- 7:15Speaker 1: be a great governor.
- 7:17Speaker 2: Uh.
- 7:17Speaker 1: The what are the chances for a Republican in New
- 7:21Speaker 1: York State?
- 7:23Speaker 2: Well, and they're not great because of the overwhelming number
- 7:26Speaker 2: of Democrats with proofs. Is a superb candidate who who's
- 7:29Speaker 2: run a great county. Uh And I think if anything,
- 7:33Speaker 2: that he won't he won't ever sitting in the primary.
- 7:36Speaker 2: And I think to a certain extent, we have an
- 7:37Speaker 2: opportunity against a very very weak governor.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, well Ed Rolands, great stuff. We always
- 7:43Speaker 1: love talking to you. Thanks for being with us. Take care, Yeah,
- 7:47Speaker 1: later today Bruce Blakeman inauguration for a second term is county.
- 7:52Speaker 1: He's the best county executive in America. And the job
- 7:55Speaker 1: of a county executive you're basically the governor. You're the
- 7:58Speaker 1: governor of Nassau County. Nassau County is huge, It's three
- 8:02Speaker 1: million people. It's bigger than some states. So there's nobody
- 8:07Speaker 1: more qualified to take over as governor of New York
- 8:10Speaker 1: election coming up later this year. He would be perfect.
- 8:13Speaker 1: I'm going to go to the inauguration today. I'll report
- 8:15Speaker 1: back to you tomorrow all about it. Hey, don't forget
- 8:18Speaker 1: Buck and Clay. They'll be here at noon today with
- 8:21Speaker 1: a great show for you. And then the most listened
- 8:23Speaker 1: to radio show in America Sean Hannity at three, Jesse
- 8:27Speaker 1: Kelly at six, Jimmy Fayler. Boy. People love this new show.
- 8:30Speaker 1: It's a great talk show. It's interesting, it's entertaining, it's funny.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Jimmy Fayler every night at nine, seven to ten. WR
