- 0:02Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
- 0:06rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, February 12th.
- 0:12When words and walls can't hold you.
- 0:14Have you ever felt trapped by your own words or boxed in by
- 0:17circumstances you didn't see coming?
- 0:20Maybe you spoke too quickly and now you're dealing with the
- 0:23fallout. Or maybe life feels like a
- 0:25closed room with no clear exit, and you're wondering how you
- 0:28even got there. Those moments can feel heavy,
- 0:32like everything is pressing in at once.
- 0:34But Scripture reminds us that neither careless words nor
- 0:38physical walls have the final say.
- 0:41Proverbs chapter 10, verse 19 tells us when words are many,
- 0:45transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips
- 0:48is prudent. That's such an honest statement.
- 0:52The more we talk without thinking, the more likely we are
- 0:55to create messes we never intended.
- 0:57Words can lock us into conflict, regret, and misunderstanding,
- 1:01but wisdom knows when to pause. Restraint isn't weakness, it's
- 1:06strength. It protects your peace and keeps
- 1:08you from unnecessary battles. Then Psalm 18 lifts our eyes
- 1:12higher. David declares in Psalm chapter
- 1:1518, verse 29. By you I can run against a
- 1:18troop, and by my God, I can leap over a wall.
- 1:22That's not just poetic language, it's a declaration of
- 1:25confidence. David is saying that with God's
- 1:28strength, obstacles don't get the final word.
- 1:31Walls that look impossible suddenly become passable.
- 1:35Things that should stop you don't have to define you.
- 1:38And then we see this truth lived out in an unforgettable way.
- 1:41In Acts chapter 12. Peter is in prison, chained,
- 1:44guarded, and, humanly speaking, stuck.
- 1:47There are real walls, real chains, real danger.
- 1:51But Acts chapter 12 verse 7 tells us that an Angel of the
- 1:54Lord appears. Light fills the cell.
- 1:56Peter is woken up and the chains fall off his hands.
- 2:00No argument, no struggle, no delay.
- 2:03God steps in and what held Peter captive can no longer hold him
- 2:07at all. What's powerful is how these
- 2:09scriptures connect. God wants to guard us from
- 2:13unnecessary bondage caused by careless words, but He also
- 2:17wants us to know that even when we are trapped by circumstances
- 2:20beyond our control, He is still able to deliver.
- 2:24He gives wisdom to prevent harm, strength to overcome obstacles,
- 2:28and power to bring freedom where it feels impossible.
- 2:31Maybe your chains aren't physical.
- 2:34Maybe they look like fear, shame, habits, anxiety, or
- 2:37discouragement. Maybe your walls are emotional,
- 2:40relational, or spiritual. The same God who freed Peter is
- 2:43still at work today. He can quiet your mouth,
- 2:47strengthen your heart, and open doors you thought were sealed
- 2:50shut. You are not as stuck as you feel
- 2:53with God. Words can be redeemed, walls can
- 2:56be crossed, and chains can fall. Freedom doesn't come from
- 2:59striving harder. It comes from trusting deeper.
- 3:02Let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank you that
- 3:05You are greater than every mistake I've made and every
- 3:08obstacle I face. Help me to use my words wisely
- 3:12and to pause before speaking in ways that cause harm.
- 3:16Give me strength to face the walls in my life with confidence
- 3:19in you. And just like you freed Peter, I
- 3:22ask you to break every chain that holds me back.
- 3:25I trust you for wisdom, strength and freedom as I walk forward
- 3:28with you in Jesus name, Amen. What if the way you pray changed
- 3:33because you truly knew who God is?

- 4:53Proverbs chapter 10 verses 18 to 19 World English Bible.
- 4:58He who hides hatred has lying lips.
- 5:00He who utters a slander is a fool.
- 5:03In the multitude of words there is no lack of disobedience, but
- 5:06he who restrains his lips does wisely.
- 5:08Psalm Chapter 18 World English Bible for the Chief musician by
- 5:14David, the servant of Yahweh, who spoke to Yahweh the words of
- 5:17this song. In the day that Yahweh delivered
- 5:19him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of
- 5:22Saul, he said, I love you, Yahweh, my strength.
- 5:25Yahweh is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my
- 5:29rock in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my
- 5:32salvation, my high tower. I call on Yahweh who is worthy
- 5:35to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies.
- 5:39The cords of death surrounded me.
- 5:41The floods of ungodliness made me afraid.
- 5:43The cords of she all were around me.
- 5:45The snares of death came on me. In my distress I called on
- 5:49Yahweh and cried to my God. He heard my voice out of His
- 5:52temple. My cry before Him came into his
- 5:54ears. Then the earth shook and
- 5:56trembled. The foundations also of the
- 5:59mountains quaked and were shaken.
- 6:00Because he was angry, smoke went out of his nostrils.
- 6:04Consuming fire came out of his mouth.
- 6:06Coals were kindled by it. He bowed the heavens also and
- 6:09came down. Thick darkness was under his
- 6:12feet. He rode on a cherub and flew.
- 6:14Yes, he soared on the wings of the wind.
- 6:17He made darkness his hiding place, his pavilion around him
- 6:20darkness of waters, thick clouds of the skies.
- 6:23At the brightness before him, his thick clouds passed
- 6:26hailstones and coals of fire. Yahweh also thundered in the
- 6:30sky. The Most High uttered His voice,
- 6:32hailstones and coals of fire. He sent out His arrows and
- 6:36scattered them. He rooted them with great
- 6:38lightning bolts. Then the channels of waters
- 6:40appeared. The foundations of the world
- 6:43were laid bare. At your rebuke, Yahweh, at the
- 6:45blast of the breath of your nostrils, He sent from on high.
- 6:49He took me. He drew me out of many waters.
- 6:52He delivered me from my strong enemy, from those who hated me,
- 6:55for they were too mighty for me. They came on me in the day of my
- 6:58calamity. But Yahweh was my support.
- 7:01He brought me out also into a large place.
- 7:04He delivered me because He delighted in me.
- 7:06Yahweh has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according
- 7:10to the cleanness of my hands. He has recompensed me, for I
- 7:14have kept the ways of Yahweh and have not wickedly departed from
- 7:17my God, for all His ordinances were before me.
- 7:20I didn't put away His statutes from me.
- 7:22I was also blameless with Him. I kept myself from my iniquity,
- 7:27therefore Yahweh has rewarded me according to My righteousness,
- 7:30according to the cleanness of My hands.
- 7:32In His eye sight With the merciful you will show yourself
- 7:35merciful, With the perfect man you will show yourself perfect.
- 7:39With the pure you will show yourself pure.
- 7:42With the crooked you will show yourself shrewd.
- 7:44For you will save the afflicted people.
- 7:46But the arrogant eyes you will bring down for you will light My
- 7:49lamp. Yahweh, my God will light up my
- 7:51darkness. For by you I advance through a
- 7:54troop, by my God I leap over a wall.
- 7:56As for God, His way is perfect. Yahweh's Word is tried.
- 8:00He is a shield to all those who take refuge in him.
- 8:03For who is God except Yahweh, who is a rock besides our God,
- 8:08The God who arms me with strength and makes my way
- 8:10perfect. He makes my feet like Deer's
- 8:12feet and sets me on my high places.
- 8:15He teaches my hands to war so that my arms bend a bow of
- 8:18bronze. You have also given me the
- 8:20shield of your salvation. Your right hand sustains me.
- 8:24Your gentleness has made me great.
- 8:26You have enlarged my steps. Under me my feet have not
- 8:28slipped. I will pursue my enemies and
- 8:31overtake them. I won't turn away until they are
- 8:33consumed. I will strike them through so
- 8:36that they will not be able to rise.
- 8:38They shall fall under my feet, for you have armed me with
- 8:41strength to the battle. You have subdued under me those
- 8:44who rose up against me. You have also made my enemies
- 8:47turn their backs to me, that I might cut off those who hate me.
- 8:50They cried, but there was no one to save, even to Yahweh.
- 8:54But he didn't answer them. Then I beat them, small as the
- 8:57dust before the wind. I cast them out as the mire of
- 9:00the streets. You have delivered me from the
- 9:02strivings of the people. You have made me the head of the
- 9:05nations. A people whom I have not known
- 9:07shall serve me. As soon as they hear of me, they
- 9:10shall obey me. The foreigners shall submit
- 9:12themselves to me. The foreigners shall fade away
- 9:15and shall come trembling out of their strongholds.
- 9:17Yahweh lives. Blessed be my rock, Exalted be
- 9:20the God of my salvation. Even the God who executes
- 9:24vengeance for me and subdues peoples under me, He rescues me
- 9:27from my enemies. Yes, You lift me up above those
- 9:31who rise up against me. You deliver me from the violent
- 9:33man. Therefore I will give thanks to
- 9:36you, Yahweh, among the nations, and will sing praises to Your
- 9:39name. He gives great deliverance to
- 9:41his king, and shows loving kindness to his anointed, to
- 9:44David, and to his offspring forevermore.
- 9:47Acts chapter 12 World English Bible Now about that time King
- 9:52Herod stretched out his hands to oppress some of the assembly.
- 9:55He killed James, the brother of John, with the sword.
- 9:58When he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to seize
- 10:01Peter also. This was during the Days of
- 10:04Unleavened Bread. When he had arrested him, he put
- 10:07him in prison and delivered him to 4 squads of four soldiers
- 10:10each to guard him, intending to bring him out to the people
- 10:13after the Passover. Peter therefore was kept in the
- 10:16prison, but constant prayer was made by the assembly to God for
- 10:20him. The same night when Herod was
- 10:22about to bring him out, Peter was sleeping between two
- 10:25soldiers bound with two chains. Guards in front of the door kept
- 10:29the prison and behold an Angel of the Lord stood by him and a
- 10:33light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and
- 10:36woke him up saying stand up quickly.
- 10:39His chains fell off his hands. The Angel said to him get
- 10:42dressed and put on your sandals. He did so.
- 10:45He said to him, put on your cloak and follow me and he went
- 10:48out and followed him. He didn't know that what was
- 10:51being done by the Angel was real but thought he saw a vision.
- 10:54When they were past the 1st and the second guard, they came to
- 10:57the iron gate that leads into the city, which open to them by
- 11:01itself. They went out and went down one
- 11:03street and immediately the Angel departed from him.
- 11:07When Peter had come to himself, he said, Now I truly know that
- 11:10the Lord has sent out his Angel and delivered me out of the hand
- 11:13of Herod and from everything the Jewish people were expecting.
- 11:17Thinking about that, he came to the House of Mary, the mother of
- 11:20John, who was called Mark, where many were gathered together and
- 11:23we're praying. When Peter knocked at the door
- 11:25of the gate, a servant girl named Rhoda came to answer.
- 11:29When she recognized Peter's voice, she didn't open the gate
- 11:32for joy, but ran in and reported that Peter was standing in front
- 11:35of the gate. They said to her, You are crazy,
- 11:39but she insisted that it was so. They said it is his Angel, But
- 11:43Peter continued knocking. When they had opened, they saw
- 11:46him and were amazed, but he, beckoning to them with his hand
- 11:50to be silent, declared to them how the Lord had brought him out
- 11:53of the prison. He said, Tell these things to
- 11:56James and to the brothers. Then he departed and went to
- 11:59another place. Now as soon as it was day, there
- 12:02was no small stir among the soldiers about what had become
- 12:05of Peter. When Herod had sought for him
- 12:07and didn't find him, he examined the guards, then commanded that
- 12:10they should be put to death. He went down from Judea to
- 12:14Caesarea and stayed there. Now Herod was very angry with
- 12:17the people of Tyre and Sidon. They came with 1 accord to him,
- 12:21and having made Blastus, the King's personal aid, their
- 12:25friend, they asked for peace because their country depended
- 12:28on the King's country for food. On an appointed day Herod
- 12:31dressed himself in royal clothing, sat on the throne, and
- 12:34gave a speech to them. The people shouted the voice of
- 12:38a God and not of a man. Immediately an Angel of the Lord
- 12:41struck him, because he didn't give God the glory.
- 12:44Then he was eaten by worms and died.
- 12:46But the word of God grew and multiplied.
- 12:49Barnabas and Saul returned to Jerusalem when they had
- 12:52fulfilled their service, also taking with them John, who was
- 12:55called Mark. Thanks for joining us on Bible
