February 12 - Prayer Behind Closed Doors · Bible Chat Devotional

• 0:02
Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
• 0:06
rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, February 12th.
• 0:12
When words and walls can't hold you.
• 0:14
Have you ever felt trapped by your own words or boxed in by
• 0:17
  circumstances you didn't see coming?
• 0:20
Maybe you spoke too quickly and now you're dealing with the
• 0:23
fallout. Or maybe life feels like a
• 0:25
closed room with no clear exit, and you're wondering how you
• 0:28
even got there. Those moments can feel heavy,
• 0:32
like everything is pressing in at once.
• 0:34
But Scripture reminds us that neither careless words nor
• 0:38
physical walls have the final say.
• 0:41
Proverbs chapter 10, verse 19 tells us when words are many,
• 0:45
transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips
• 0:48
is prudent. That's such an honest statement.
• 0:52
The more we talk without thinking, the more likely we are
• 0:55
to create messes we never intended.
• 0:57
Words can lock us into conflict, regret, and misunderstanding,
• 1:01
but wisdom knows when to pause. Restraint isn't weakness, it's
• 1:06
strength. It protects your peace and keeps
• 1:08
you from unnecessary battles. Then Psalm 18 lifts our eyes
• 1:12
higher. David declares in Psalm chapter
• 1:15
18, verse 29. By you I can run against a
• 1:18
troop, and by my God, I can leap over a wall.
• 1:22
That's not just poetic language, it's a declaration of
• 1:25
confidence. David is saying that with God's
• 1:28
strength, obstacles don't get the final word.
• 1:31
Walls that look impossible suddenly become passable.
• 1:35
Things that should stop you don't have to define you.
• 1:38
And then we see this truth lived out in an unforgettable way.
• 1:41
In Acts chapter 12. Peter is in prison, chained,
• 1:44
  guarded, and, humanly speaking, stuck.
• 1:47
There are real walls, real chains, real danger.
• 1:51
But Acts chapter 12 verse 7 tells us that an Angel of the
• 1:54
Lord appears. Light fills the cell.
• 1:56
Peter is woken up and the chains fall off his hands.
• 2:00
No argument, no struggle, no delay.
• 2:03
God steps in and what held Peter captive can no longer hold him
• 2:07
at all. What's powerful is how these
• 2:09
scriptures connect. God wants to guard us from
• 2:13
unnecessary bondage caused by careless words, but He also
• 2:17
wants us to know that even when we are trapped by circumstances
• 2:20
beyond our control, He is still able to deliver.
• 2:24
He gives wisdom to prevent harm, strength to overcome obstacles,
• 2:28
and power to bring freedom where it feels impossible.
• 2:31
  Maybe your chains aren't physical.
• 2:34
Maybe they look like fear, shame, habits, anxiety, or
• 2:37
discouragement. Maybe your walls are emotional,
• 2:40
relational, or spiritual. The same God who freed Peter is
• 2:43
still at work today. He can quiet your mouth,
• 2:47
strengthen your heart, and open doors you thought were sealed
• 2:50
shut. You are not as stuck as you feel
• 2:53
with God. Words can be redeemed, walls can
• 2:56
be crossed, and chains can fall. Freedom doesn't come from
• 2:59
striving harder. It comes from trusting deeper.
• 3:02
Let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank you that
• 3:05
You are greater than every mistake I've made and every
• 3:08
obstacle I face. Help me to use my words wisely
• 3:12
and to pause before speaking in ways that cause harm.
• 3:16
Give me strength to face the walls in my life with confidence
• 3:19
in you. And just like you freed Peter, I
• 3:22
ask you to break every chain that holds me back.
• 3:25
I trust you for wisdom, strength and freedom as I walk forward
• 3:28
with you in Jesus name, Amen. What if the way you pray changed
• 3:33
because you truly knew who God is?

Proverbs chapter 10 verses 18 to 19 World English Bible.
• 4:58
He who hides hatred has lying lips.
• 5:00
He who utters a slander is a fool.
• 5:03
In the multitude of words there is no lack of disobedience, but
• 5:06
he who restrains his lips does wisely.
• 5:08
Psalm Chapter 18 World English Bible for the Chief musician by
• 5:14
David, the servant of Yahweh, who spoke to Yahweh the words of
• 5:17
this song. In the day that Yahweh delivered
• 5:19
him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of
• 5:22
Saul, he said, I love you, Yahweh, my strength.
• 5:25
Yahweh is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my
• 5:29
rock in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my
• 5:32
salvation, my high tower. I call on Yahweh who is worthy
• 5:35
to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies.
• 5:39
The cords of death surrounded me.
• 5:41
The floods of ungodliness made me afraid.
• 5:43
The cords of she all were around me.
• 5:45
The snares of death came on me. In my distress I called on
• 5:49
Yahweh and cried to my God. He heard my voice out of His
• 5:52
temple. My cry before Him came into his
• 5:54
ears. Then the earth shook and
• 5:56
trembled. The foundations also of the
• 5:59
  mountains quaked and were shaken.
• 6:00
Because he was angry, smoke went out of his nostrils.
• 6:04
Consuming fire came out of his mouth.
• 6:06
Coals were kindled by it. He bowed the heavens also and
• 6:09
came down. Thick darkness was under his
• 6:12
feet. He rode on a cherub and flew.
• 6:14
Yes, he soared on the wings of the wind.
• 6:17
He made darkness his hiding place, his pavilion around him
• 6:20
darkness of waters, thick clouds of the skies.
• 6:23
At the brightness before him, his thick clouds passed
• 6:26
hailstones and coals of fire. Yahweh also thundered in the
• 6:30
sky. The Most High uttered His voice,
• 6:32
hailstones and coals of fire. He sent out His arrows and
• 6:36
scattered them. He rooted them with great
• 6:38
lightning bolts. Then the channels of waters
• 6:40
appeared. The foundations of the world
• 6:43
were laid bare. At your rebuke, Yahweh, at the
• 6:45
blast of the breath of your nostrils, He sent from on high.
• 6:49
He took me. He drew me out of many waters.
• 6:52
He delivered me from my strong enemy, from those who hated me,
• 6:55
for they were too mighty for me. They came on me in the day of my
• 6:58
calamity. But Yahweh was my support.
• 7:01
He brought me out also into a large place.
• 7:04
He delivered me because He delighted in me.
• 7:06
Yahweh has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according
• 7:10
to the cleanness of my hands. He has recompensed me, for I
• 7:14
have kept the ways of Yahweh and have not wickedly departed from
• 7:17
my God, for all His ordinances were before me.
• 7:20
I didn't put away His statutes from me.
• 7:22
I was also blameless with Him. I kept myself from my iniquity,
• 7:27
therefore Yahweh has rewarded me according to My righteousness,
• 7:30
according to the cleanness of My hands.
• 7:32
In His eye sight With the merciful you will show yourself
• 7:35
merciful, With the perfect man you will show yourself perfect.
• 7:39
With the pure you will show yourself pure.
• 7:42
With the crooked you will show yourself shrewd.
• 7:44
For you will save the afflicted people.
• 7:46
But the arrogant eyes you will bring down for you will light My
• 7:49
lamp. Yahweh, my God will light up my
• 7:51
darkness. For by you I advance through a
• 7:54
troop, by my God I leap over a wall.
• 7:56
As for God, His way is perfect. Yahweh's Word is tried.
• 8:00
He is a shield to all those who take refuge in him.
• 8:03
For who is God except Yahweh, who is a rock besides our God,
• 8:08
The God who arms me with strength and makes my way
• 8:10
perfect. He makes my feet like Deer's
• 8:12
feet and sets me on my high places.
• 8:15
He teaches my hands to war so that my arms bend a bow of
• 8:18
bronze. You have also given me the
• 8:20
shield of your salvation. Your right hand sustains me.
• 8:24
Your gentleness has made me great.
• 8:26
You have enlarged my steps. Under me my feet have not
• 8:28
slipped. I will pursue my enemies and
• 8:31
overtake them. I won't turn away until they are
• 8:33
consumed. I will strike them through so
• 8:36
that they will not be able to rise.
• 8:38
They shall fall under my feet, for you have armed me with
• 8:41
strength to the battle. You have subdued under me those
• 8:44
who rose up against me. You have also made my enemies
• 8:47
turn their backs to me, that I might cut off those who hate me.
• 8:50
They cried, but there was no one to save, even to Yahweh.
• 8:54
But he didn't answer them. Then I beat them, small as the
• 8:57
dust before the wind. I cast them out as the mire of
• 9:00
the streets. You have delivered me from the
• 9:02
strivings of the people. You have made me the head of the
• 9:05
nations. A people whom I have not known
• 9:07
shall serve me. As soon as they hear of me, they
• 9:10
shall obey me. The foreigners shall submit
• 9:12
themselves to me. The foreigners shall fade away
• 9:15
and shall come trembling out of their strongholds.
• 9:17
Yahweh lives. Blessed be my rock, Exalted be
• 9:20
the God of my salvation. Even the God who executes
• 9:24
vengeance for me and subdues peoples under me, He rescues me
• 9:27
from my enemies. Yes, You lift me up above those
• 9:31
who rise up against me. You deliver me from the violent
• 9:33
man. Therefore I will give thanks to
• 9:36
you, Yahweh, among the nations, and will sing praises to Your
• 9:39
name. He gives great deliverance to
• 9:41
his king, and shows loving kindness to his anointed, to
• 9:44
David, and to his offspring forevermore.
• 9:47
Acts chapter 12 World English Bible Now about that time King
• 9:52
Herod stretched out his hands to oppress some of the assembly.
• 9:55
He killed James, the brother of John, with the sword.
• 9:58
When he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to seize
• 10:01
Peter also. This was during the Days of
• 10:04
Unleavened Bread. When he had arrested him, he put
• 10:07
him in prison and delivered him to 4 squads of four soldiers
• 10:10
each to guard him, intending to bring him out to the people
• 10:13
after the Passover. Peter therefore was kept in the
• 10:16
prison, but constant prayer was made by the assembly to God for
• 10:20
him. The same night when Herod was
• 10:22
about to bring him out, Peter was sleeping between two
• 10:25
soldiers bound with two chains. Guards in front of the door kept
• 10:29
the prison and behold an Angel of the Lord stood by him and a
• 10:33
light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and
• 10:36
woke him up saying stand up quickly.
• 10:39
His chains fell off his hands. The Angel said to him get
• 10:42
dressed and put on your sandals. He did so.
• 10:45
He said to him, put on your cloak and follow me and he went
• 10:48
out and followed him. He didn't know that what was
• 10:51
being done by the Angel was real but thought he saw a vision.
• 10:54
When they were past the 1st and the second guard, they came to
• 10:57
the iron gate that leads into the city, which open to them by
• 11:01
itself. They went out and went down one
• 11:03
street and immediately the Angel departed from him.
• 11:07
When Peter had come to himself, he said, Now I truly know that
• 11:10
the Lord has sent out his Angel and delivered me out of the hand
• 11:13
of Herod and from everything the Jewish people were expecting.
• 11:17
Thinking about that, he came to the House of Mary, the mother of
• 11:20
John, who was called Mark, where many were gathered together and
• 11:23
we're praying. When Peter knocked at the door
• 11:25
of the gate, a servant girl named Rhoda came to answer.
• 11:29
When she recognized Peter's voice, she didn't open the gate
• 11:32
for joy, but ran in and reported that Peter was standing in front
• 11:35
of the gate. They said to her, You are crazy,
• 11:39
but she insisted that it was so. They said it is his Angel, But
• 11:43
Peter continued knocking. When they had opened, they saw
• 11:46
him and were amazed, but he, beckoning to them with his hand
• 11:50
to be silent, declared to them how the Lord had brought him out
• 11:53
of the prison. He said, Tell these things to
• 11:56
James and to the brothers. Then he departed and went to
• 11:59
another place. Now as soon as it was day, there
• 12:02
was no small stir among the soldiers about what had become
• 12:05
of Peter. When Herod had sought for him
• 12:07
and didn't find him, he examined the guards, then commanded that
• 12:10
they should be put to death. He went down from Judea to
• 12:14
Caesarea and stayed there. Now Herod was very angry with
• 12:17
the people of Tyre and Sidon. They came with 1 accord to him,
• 12:21
and having made Blastus, the King's personal aid, their
• 12:25
friend, they asked for peace because their country depended
• 12:28
on the King's country for food. On an appointed day Herod
• 12:31
dressed himself in royal clothing, sat on the throne, and
• 12:34
gave a speech to them. The people shouted the voice of
• 12:38
a God and not of a man. Immediately an Angel of the Lord
• 12:41
struck him, because he didn't give God the glory.
• 12:44
Then he was eaten by worms and died.
• 12:46
But the word of God grew and multiplied.
• 12:49
Barnabas and Saul returned to Jerusalem when they had
• 12:52
fulfilled their service, also taking with them John, who was
• 12:55
called Mark. Thanks for joining us on Bible
