2:08
Speaker 4: Not tomorrow night. It's going to be tonight. We've got
2:10
Speaker 4: the Great Race going on. So many things going on.
2:13
Speaker 4: It's even confusing to Jim Strong what day is this day?
2:16
Speaker 4: Because Strawn walked in the studio and said, wait, why
2:19
Speaker 4: am I on?
2:19
Speaker 7: Now?
2:20
Speaker 4: Aren't we going to talk to Angie from the Humane Association? First?
2:23
Speaker 4: I said, the month is this? That's on Friday? Where
2:26
Speaker 4: am I?
2:27
Speaker 8: Jim Dave, good morning, Oh my gosh, this is the
2:30
Speaker 8: oddest thing ever for me. I mean, twenty two years
2:32
Speaker 8: of live on a levee, this is our first and
2:34
Speaker 8: this is our first only one we've ever done Thursday night.
2:37
Speaker 8: So really I'm just saying this good way get the
2:39
Speaker 8: weekend started, and if you'd like to get it started
2:41
Speaker 8: today early, now's your opportunity.
2:43
Speaker 4: And who do we have with us here?
2:44
Speaker 8: We have a couple of members of the Charlie West
2:47
Speaker 8: All Stars. They're going to be taking center stage. Then
2:49
Speaker 8: it had ed Riverfront Park on the show and Bomb
2:52
Speaker 8: Stage at seven thirty. They're part of the Charlie West
2:55
Speaker 8: All Stars who will be playing from seven thirty till nine.
2:58
Speaker 8: So we have shay Lett Leftridge and brand the Odell.
3:00
Speaker 8: I'll let you talk with them a little bit later
3:03
Speaker 8: about their music and how they got together and what
3:05
Speaker 8: they're all about it.
3:06
Speaker 9: There are really.
3:06
Speaker 8: Special tributes tonight to our veterans. Not only is it
3:09
Speaker 8: the Great Races in town, but we're honoring our veterans tonight.
3:13
Speaker 8: I know many of us are very proud in this state,
3:15
Speaker 8: and in this valley and in this city to honor
3:18
Speaker 8: our veterans. So the Charlie West All Stars, I'll let
3:20
Speaker 8: Shyla talk a little bit about their backdrop with the Veterans.
3:24
Speaker 8: They did a nice album about ten years ago. But
3:27
Speaker 8: this is season twenty one. It is week number four.
3:30
Speaker 8: I don't know what day it is, but it's week
3:32
Speaker 8: number four of the Moses Auto Group Live on the Levee,
3:35
Speaker 8: brought to you by our good friends here in the
3:37
Speaker 8: city of Charleston. They do a nice job, and you've
3:40
Speaker 8: mentioned even though it's a Thursday, there's still a lot
3:42
Speaker 8: going on. This Great Race is pretty fun. So the
3:45
Speaker 8: Great Race will be coming into town, you know, four
3:47
Speaker 8: four thirty five, kind of right before the Levee starts
3:51
Speaker 8: their regular schedule. It's a regular schedule music night tonight.
3:54
Speaker 8: So at six o'clock, our good friend Joey Simington we'll
3:58
Speaker 8: be taking center stage and he's with face Back Value,
4:00
Speaker 8: Face Value tribute to Phil Collins. So if you love
4:03
Speaker 8: Phil Collins and you love that killer big sound, who
4:06
Speaker 8: doesn't love Phil Collins, Shay and Joey does a great.
4:08
Speaker 4: Sobody texted the show about that yesterday and said, that's
4:11
Speaker 4: a crime that he's not in the Rock and Roll
4:13
Speaker 4: Hall of Fame. Well, I thought he's not not as
4:15
Speaker 4: a solo artist. That's what I was told. I didn't
4:17
Speaker 4: research that.
4:18
Speaker 8: Yeah, So that's at six o'clock, and then we'll take
4:20
Speaker 8: a little break, do some announcement, throws some East Coast
4:23
Speaker 8: ts T shirts up into the stand Live on Levy
4:26
Speaker 8: T shirts, and we'll have a few announcements, and then
4:28
Speaker 8: Shala and Brandy and the whole group from the Charlie
4:31
Speaker 8: West All Stars will take center stage at seven point
4:34
Speaker 8: thirty and I'll let that be a segway.
4:36
Speaker 4: David, all Right, I want to know what does Tony
4:37
Speaker 4: the Taylor have to do with this? Is what I want?
4:39
Speaker 10: Speaking of Tony Taylor, listen, Birthday, Tony, Happy birthday buddy.
4:44
Speaker 10: He is been instrumental in this band. So we've been
4:48
Speaker 10: rehearsing with them. Yeah, you like that he's been instrumental. Seriously,
4:53
Speaker 10: he helps us so much, does he not? He provides food.
4:56
Speaker 10: He you know, could always sew up my pants if
4:58
Speaker 10: something crazy happened.
5:01
Speaker 4: He sent me, and I talked about this in the
5:02
Speaker 4: show yesterday. He sent me a clip of I guess
5:04
Speaker 4: rehearsal and it was you guys, and you were doing
5:07
Speaker 4: whipping post and oh yeah, that is my favorite all
5:11
Speaker 4: my brothers.
5:11
Speaker 3: Is it really?
5:12
Speaker 10: I love whipping posts? But I got to tell you, Tony,
5:14
Speaker 10: I asked, I asked, everybody, send me just a little
5:16
Speaker 10: short bio. You know, Tony says, Tony the Taylor amateur
5:21
Speaker 10: tambourine and backing vocals.
5:23
Speaker 4: There you go.
5:23
Speaker 10: So I just want to let y'all know that Tony.
5:26
Speaker 3: Is more than a tailor.
5:27
Speaker 4: There you go.
5:28
Speaker 10: He's also a tiger.
5:29
Speaker 4: He could be the tambourine Tony, Tony the tambourine shaker. Randy,
5:36
Speaker 4: what do you do with these people?
5:39
Speaker 9: I asked her this all the time.
5:40
Speaker 11: I ask myself that too. No, just kidding, It's a
5:43
Speaker 11: great time.
5:44
Speaker 3: I love it.
5:45
Speaker 4: Talk about your musical background. I mean, how did you
5:47
Speaker 4: get involved in all this?
5:49
Speaker 11: H Well, the lovely miss Chela so graciously asked me
5:53
Speaker 11: to join, and I appreciate that so much. I have
5:58
Speaker 11: sang all my life, but I haven't really been on
6:00
Speaker 11: the scene for quite some time, several years. But I
6:04
Speaker 11: did start a band with my husband called the Wilson Project.
6:08
Speaker 11: We've been playing around town, so we're kind of back
6:11
Speaker 11: on the scene and we're excited about that.
6:14
Speaker 4: So how long? What what was it that led you
6:16
Speaker 4: to want to do music to begin with? I mean
6:18
Speaker 4: back in the day.
6:19
Speaker 11: I don't know. I just came out singing.
6:23
Speaker 10: It's just the way it was.
6:24
Speaker 4: What about what about you shl what was a good?
6:26
Speaker 10: I mean, I've been singing all my life. My mother sang,
6:28
Speaker 10: my father sang. You know, we come from a very
6:31
Speaker 10: musical family, and as you know, black church, everybody's gonna
6:34
Speaker 10: sing so and it's it's interesting because I do have
6:38
Speaker 10: a step dad who is probably, you know, just the
6:42
Speaker 10: oddest combination, you know, to go with me, because I
6:45
Speaker 10: have my mom who loves gospel and my dad who
6:48
Speaker 10: loved R and B. And my stepdad who is an
6:50
Speaker 10: old white hippie from California. So he had me singing
6:53
Speaker 10: rock music since I was too, and so I have
6:55
Speaker 10: this such eclectic mix and that's why you can see
6:58
Speaker 10: me anywhere singing with anybody.
7:00
Speaker 3: And I've been seeing.
7:01
Speaker 4: It, and that's a great description of her day, eclectic.
7:04
Speaker 11: I liked it.
7:05
Speaker 8: I think we think she has direcord for playing on
7:08
Speaker 8: the live on the Levy stage down at Schoenbomb Stage.
7:11
Speaker 4: It had to under her front park.
7:12
Speaker 8: We believe she's been on the stage a little bit
7:15
Speaker 8: more than me, but not by but not by much.
7:18
Speaker 8: She's been on probably over twenty times with various bands,
7:22
Speaker 8: Hybrid Soul and US, Floyd and Shy and Charlie West
7:26
Speaker 8: All Stars and the list, Bob Thompson, the list goes
7:29
Speaker 8: on and on. Shela can sing, she can sing at all.
7:32
Speaker 8: She does it excellent and brilliantly. And I'm glad Brandy's
7:35
Speaker 8: coming along tonight. The Charlie West All Stars. Talking about
7:37
Speaker 8: how many members it will be on the stage.
7:39
Speaker 10: Gosh, honestly can't count how many people there are. But
7:42
Speaker 10: basically the Charlie West All Star started about ten years ago.
7:45
Speaker 10: Richard Alderson, who is a native came in. He lives
7:48
Speaker 10: in Nashville. Now, he's been really heavy in the music
7:51
Speaker 10: scene there as well as here. Ten years ago, he
7:53
Speaker 10: wanted to put together a group of who he felt
7:56
Speaker 10: at the time were kind of some of the best
7:58
Speaker 10: of the best here in Charleston. So they either had
8:00
Speaker 10: to be from Charleston or living in Charleston to be
8:03
Speaker 10: in this band. And we put together an album, and
8:06
Speaker 10: this is our ten year anniversary of that album. We
8:08
Speaker 10: raised tens of thousands of dollars to benefit veterans. We
8:11
Speaker 10: donated one hundred percent of the proceeds of that album
8:14
Speaker 10: two veterans services, different various veteran services, and it was
8:19
Speaker 10: a labor of love. Everyone that was in the band
8:21
Speaker 10: is either a veteran or they're closely connected to a veteran.
8:24
Speaker 10: I've got a brother that's a veteran. My father's a
8:26
Speaker 10: Marine Corps veteran. So it was something that was near
8:28
Speaker 10: and dear to all of us. And Richard had founded
8:31
Speaker 10: a Soldier Song which was in Nashville and it was
8:34
Speaker 10: doing a lot of things for veterans as well. So
8:36
Speaker 10: when we wanted to revamp it this year, and they said, hey,
8:40
Speaker 10: it's ten year universally, let's do something I said, well,
8:42
Speaker 10: everybody isn't here anymore, but let's get some more of
8:44
Speaker 10: the best of the best. And that's how we brought
8:45
Speaker 10: in Brandy and of course Tony are our best tambourine
8:48
Speaker 10: player ever.
8:49
Speaker 11: Of course.
8:51
Speaker 9: Got involved.
8:52
Speaker 10: But there's over twelve people involved in this project. There's
8:56
Speaker 10: a lot of us and every last one of us
8:58
Speaker 10: has been doing this for a long time and one
9:00
Speaker 10: capacity or another, and we love veterans and that's while
9:02
Speaker 10: we're here.
9:03
Speaker 4: All right, sounds good? Now, this is a regular live
9:05
Speaker 4: on the levee. It's a regular lives it's Friday night,
9:07
Speaker 4: but it's Thursday. Yeah, we're not.
9:08
Speaker 8: There's no live on Levee tomorrow night, folks. So I
9:10
Speaker 8: hope you guys get the memo on this. This tonight
9:12
Speaker 8: is tonight, get your weekends started. Six o'clock we have
9:16
Speaker 8: the Face Value Tribute to Phil Collins. Our friend Joey
9:19
Speaker 8: will be down there. He'll play from six to seven,
9:22
Speaker 8: we'll take a little break, throw some t shirts. Seven
9:24
Speaker 8: thirty to Charlie West All Stars, and throughout the night,
9:27
Speaker 8: our charity will be doing the fifty to fifty telling
9:30
Speaker 8: of the tickets, as we've been doing forever since the beginning,
9:33
Speaker 8: Tom Lane wanted to have great fun for a great cause.
9:36
Speaker 8: The president of City Council twenty two years ago said hey,
9:39
Speaker 8: let's do this thing on Friday night. But this was
9:41
Speaker 8: that was his tagline. It's still the tagline, great fun
9:44
Speaker 8: for a great cause. We help five inner city charities
9:47
Speaker 8: each and every Friday and tonight Thursday. We help organizations
9:51
Speaker 8: that help people that may need a bite to eat
9:53
Speaker 8: and maybe a place to lay their head at night.
9:55
Speaker 8: So we help the RCCR folks, the Covenant House folks,
9:59
Speaker 8: the yews sojournalist folks, Man and Meal and KBC or
10:04
Speaker 8: KB collective. They really work a lot closely with our veterans.
10:08
Speaker 8: It's kind of the old work Sulliban LifeWay Center for veterans.
10:11
Speaker 8: So we're gonna be selling fifty to fifty tickets. Over
10:14
Speaker 8: the last twenty one seasons we've raised one hundred and
10:17
Speaker 8: twenty six thousand dollars. Give her take, and then at
10:20
Speaker 8: nine o'clock, I say all that to say this. The
10:22
Speaker 8: schedule is a little different this year, but at nine o'clock,
10:25
Speaker 8: after the last song and the last note of the
10:28
Speaker 8: Charlie West All Stars, we'll do the fifty to fifty
10:30
Speaker 8: drawing at that time and so stick around for that.
10:34
Speaker 8: You need to be present to win that. And also
10:37
Speaker 8: want to give a special shout out. You know we've
10:38
Speaker 8: already said it's the Moses Auto Group. This is their
10:41
Speaker 8: seventeenth or eighteenth year to be our title sponsor for that,
10:44
Speaker 8: and special thanks to Brewer and Company along with the
10:46
Speaker 8: Health Plan, PoCA Valley and of course this radio station
10:50
Speaker 8: and all the folks here at WBrC Media. You guys
10:53
Speaker 8: have been very kind to help us promote this. I'm
10:56
Speaker 8: looking for a nice night. I think the weather's going
10:58
Speaker 8: to break. It still might be a little sticky, but
10:59
Speaker 8: it's not going to be one hundred degrees. Could be
11:01
Speaker 8: a nice night for a boat. But there's going to
11:04
Speaker 8: be great food down there. Stay hydrated, get your bearded bearverage,
11:07
Speaker 8: then have a water in between. Come down, see the cars,
11:11
Speaker 8: pay a tribute to our veterans, Sit back, relax, get
11:14
Speaker 8: a bite, have a pop, and enjoy some great rock
11:17
Speaker 8: and roll music and really a lot of different music.
11:20
Speaker 8: It's just going to be a really neat special night
11:22
Speaker 8: Thursday night in Charleston, West Virginia Day.
11:24
Speaker 4: And that is tonight, and again, of course the Great
11:26
Speaker 4: Race is going on and there's some traffic changes as
11:28
Speaker 4: it pertains to that. Go over to the City of
11:29
Speaker 4: Charleston's Facebook pages. They always do a good job of
11:32
Speaker 4: covering it. Ladies. I appreciate you being on the show.
11:35
Speaker 4: Thanks a long looking forward.
11:35
Speaker 10: Took for having us, and we look forward to seeing
11:38
Speaker 10: everybody down there. Don't forget to stay hydrated. It's going
11:40
Speaker 10: to be hot, but we are going to be ready
11:42
Speaker 10: to rock, they'll be ready to dance.
11:44
Speaker 4: Sounds good, all right again. Everything starts tonight at six
11:48
Speaker 4: with Face Value and then the Charlie Westall Stars will
11:50
Speaker 4: take the stage after that Thursday night Live on the
11:53
Speaker 4: Levee first time first, that's hard for me to believe.
11:55
Speaker 4: It's the first time ever. Ivan.
11:57
Speaker 8: We've had lots of concerts down there day, but it's
11:59
Speaker 8: not a live on the la first time. It might
12:01
Speaker 8: be a multi past, it might be a capitain ceting
12:03
Speaker 8: biker's bash, it might be this, it might be that.
12:06
Speaker 4: This first personal one. So looking forward to it and
12:09
Speaker 4: it is two nights. Thanks a lot for being here today.

Speaker 4: identify it to assess the presence of lead based paint
14:43
Speaker 4: in buildings and other structures using a three phase approach
14:45
Speaker 4: of inspection, sampling, the lab analysis, and an assessment report.
14:48
Speaker 4: There's a Pinnacle Corp. Dot net because what do you
14:50
Speaker 4: don't know can hurt you. Yesterday, of course there was
14:53
Speaker 4: there were some arrest made, six total arrested at the
14:57
Speaker 4: offices of Senator Shelley Moore Capito downtown Charleston. We're actually
15:00
Speaker 4: going to talk to two of the people that were
15:02
Speaker 4: arrested yesterday. One a I don't know if I want
15:05
Speaker 4: to say civilian, but one is a city city council
15:08
Speaker 4: first Charleston. The other is not in a non elected position,
15:11
Speaker 4: I'll put it that way. So we're going to talk
15:13
Speaker 4: to them. Coming up a little bit later on. We
15:16
Speaker 4: have Knawa County Comissioner Lance Wheeler here with us right now.
15:18
Speaker 4: Good morning, sir, how are you.
15:20
Speaker 9: Good morning, Dave. Thanks for having me on.
15:21
Speaker 4: Thank you for being here. I want to talk a
15:23
Speaker 4: little bit about KRT for a moment. I had Sean Hill,
15:26
Speaker 4: the director of KRT, on the show the other day
15:30
Speaker 4: talking about some of the changes there was. I think
15:31
Speaker 4: one public meeting was already held, and then there's going
15:34
Speaker 4: to be another one tomorrow at noon at the third
15:38
Speaker 4: floor of the Canawh County Public Library on Capitol Street,
15:41
Speaker 4: talk about the changes and all things related to KRT.
15:44
Speaker 9: Well, let's back up just a little bit.
15:45
Speaker 14: In fact, anyone who drives around here in Kennwall County,
15:49
Speaker 14: whether you live here or you're visiting, you've seen the
15:51
Speaker 14: KRT buses, Okay, and if you've looked into the windows,
15:55
Speaker 14: they're empty. And that's not necessarily as much as about
15:59
Speaker 14: the tax payer money being spent to have those buses operate,
16:03
Speaker 14: but it's also showing a sign that the system today
16:07
Speaker 14: is failing those who need public transportation. Good point, good point,
16:11
Speaker 14: and I think that's where these changes are coming from. Okay,
16:13
Speaker 14: it's not just about finances. Now that's the biggest, one
16:16
Speaker 14: of the biggest ones for me obviously, But we're spending
16:18
Speaker 14: taxpayer dollars on a survey that came back instold us
16:22
Speaker 14: that it's costing taxpayers seventy five up to seventy five
16:25
Speaker 14: dollars per passenger. That's ridiculous and it's not something we
16:30
Speaker 14: can continue moving forward. So we've got to be efficient
16:32
Speaker 14: with government. But we also got to make sure that
16:34
Speaker 14: efficiency is not just saving money, Dave, it's also making
16:37
Speaker 14: sure that we're providing the services to everyone and an
16:41
Speaker 14: equal value. And so I think the new policies, the
16:44
Speaker 14: new procedures moving forward that Shawn Hill, the director of KRT
16:47
Speaker 14: and his staff have put forward is going to solve
16:50
Speaker 14: a lot of those problems financially, but it's going to
16:54
Speaker 14: be a better, greater service of public transportation here in
16:58
Speaker 14: Kannall County. And it's something that him and I have
17:00
Speaker 14: been working on for a couple of years now. Things
17:03
Speaker 14: when are done right, take time. We're being very cautious
17:06
Speaker 14: with this, and I think this announcement that these proposers
17:10
Speaker 14: are going through is going to be something very exciting
17:12
Speaker 14: for everybody that's abou efficiency.
17:14
Speaker 4: And I think you and Sean and probably the riders
17:17
Speaker 4: and taxpayers certainly would agree on that as well.
17:20
Speaker 9: Absolutely.
17:21
Speaker 14: You know, the taxpayers put money into these buses and
17:24
Speaker 14: they're not doing the service they're intended to do, and
17:27
Speaker 14: so we need to adapt with technology today, and I
17:30
Speaker 14: think that's what KRT is doing. They're looking at why
17:33
Speaker 14: are we having these large buses that holds, you know,
17:36
Speaker 14: can't hold many people that's not doing anything and start
17:40
Speaker 14: looking at what people are requesting, and that is more
17:43
Speaker 14: convenience of being picked up from their house and being
17:47
Speaker 14: taken to the designation that they want to go to,
17:49
Speaker 14: instead of in this blistering heat walking down to a
17:53
Speaker 14: bus stop, sitting there sweating, tired, fatigue. Maybe you're an elderly,
17:58
Speaker 14: you have health problems, heart problem, sitting in that heat,
18:01
Speaker 14: waiting for a bus to come pick you up and
18:03
Speaker 14: then stopping thirty forty times before you can get to
18:06
Speaker 14: your designation. If you want to actually use the buses
18:11
Speaker 14: and get to somewhere you're trying to go to, you
18:13
Speaker 14: have to make an advance hours and that could be
18:16
Speaker 14: doctor's appointments, it could be grocery stores, it could be
18:19
Speaker 14: going and seeing one of your family members or loved
18:21
Speaker 14: ones going to work. You know, it's very difficult. With
18:24
Speaker 14: this new system KRT plus, we're going to make it
18:28
Speaker 14: more convenience and more cost effective for taxpayers to pick
18:32
Speaker 14: you up from your designation and get you to where
18:35
Speaker 14: you want to go.
18:36
Speaker 4: And I like the way that it's been described you.
18:39
Speaker 4: We're talking with canog Ant Commissioner Lance Wheeler. It's for
18:44
Speaker 4: those of you for those people that use ride sharing services.
18:46
Speaker 4: This is what this new model or the capabilities are
18:50
Speaker 4: going to be. It's just like that.
18:52
Speaker 14: Absolutely. Now here's the good thing. So whenever we have
18:55
Speaker 14: to hire someone for a bus, they have to have
18:58
Speaker 14: a CDL license and they have to go through the
19:00
Speaker 14: training and sometimes that can take up to six months
19:02
Speaker 14: than when I'm told this is not going to require
19:06
Speaker 14: a CDL license. So we're going to be able to
19:08
Speaker 14: hire more people, get them opportunities to jobs at KRT,
19:12
Speaker 14: and they're going to be able to be in a
19:14
Speaker 14: pasture van that's going to be more cost effective with fuel,
19:18
Speaker 14: and we're going to be able to pick people up
19:20
Speaker 14: from their designation when they request it, whether that's through
19:22
Speaker 14: the app that KRT has put on you go any
19:26
Speaker 14: smartphone you have, you can go right now and download
19:29
Speaker 14: KRT Plus.
19:31
Speaker 9: It's just like Uber, it's just like Lyft.
19:33
Speaker 14: You put in your address, you tell them where you
19:36
Speaker 14: want to go, and they will send you live updates
19:38
Speaker 14: of when they're coming to pick you up and they'll
19:40
Speaker 14: drop you off where you want. This is still in
19:43
Speaker 14: a pilot so right now we're looking at expanding the
19:46
Speaker 14: pilot program from South Charleston to Knall City. But my
19:50
Speaker 14: goal is eventually to make this to where this is
19:54
Speaker 14: a county wide operation that anywhere in the county you
19:57
Speaker 14: can be picked up and taken somewhere through the kart plus.
20:00
Speaker 4: And as I mentioned, there was one public hearing held
20:04
Speaker 4: and there will be another one tomorrow. And now were
20:06
Speaker 4: you at the meeting the other night? Were you able
20:08
Speaker 4: to attend it?
20:08
Speaker 9: Unfortunately I was not able to be there for family
20:10
Speaker 9: issues here.
20:11
Speaker 4: Yeah, I completely understand that. But so what I know
20:15
Speaker 4: that that you've checked in with Sean and the people
20:17
Speaker 4: they're there, what came from that even though you couldn't
20:20
Speaker 4: be there, which is understandable, We go ahead.
20:21
Speaker 14: Yeah, what I was told was there was a good
20:24
Speaker 14: a good turnout, but everyone was asking the right the
20:26
Speaker 14: right questions.
20:27
Speaker 4: Yeah.
20:28
Speaker 14: I know a lot of people are a little scared
20:29
Speaker 14: because maybe you or somebody for the last ten years
20:32
Speaker 14: have been going to the same bus stop and taking
20:34
Speaker 14: the same route and you hear that this route may
20:37
Speaker 14: be changed or eliminated.
20:38
Speaker 11: Uh.
20:39
Speaker 14: We want to make sure that people are educated to
20:41
Speaker 14: know that you don't have to go to that bus
20:43
Speaker 14: stop anymore, and you don't have to pick a bus
20:45
Speaker 14: stop that might be not even close of walking distance
20:48
Speaker 14: to the destination you want to go to. What we're
20:51
Speaker 14: going to be able to do is take you to
20:53
Speaker 14: pick you up and directly take you to where you
20:55
Speaker 14: want in a passenger van. That's cool, that's relaxing, and
20:59
Speaker 14: it's easy to get in because it's handicap accessible.
21:01
Speaker 4: And you mentioned that earlier about uh people may maybe
21:05
Speaker 4: they just got off work. Maybe they're working fast food
21:08
Speaker 4: or a restaurant or whatever they're doing that makes you
21:10
Speaker 4: actually sweat, not a job like I have, uh and uh,
21:13
Speaker 4: then they have to stand outside in this heat and
21:16
Speaker 4: wait for the bus. I think it's from what I
21:19
Speaker 4: know about it a commissioner, it sounds like a much
21:20
Speaker 4: more efficient system.
21:21
Speaker 14: It absolutely is. I'm very proud of it. And it's
21:24
Speaker 14: not just the heat. You know, we're thinking about that
21:26
Speaker 14: now because we're in it. But let's talk about the cold, right,
21:28
Speaker 14: Let's talk about the snow. And that's when people who
21:29
Speaker 14: are trying to get to a doctor appointment are immune compromised, right,
21:33
Speaker 14: and so they're gonna they're going to get sick trying
21:36
Speaker 14: to go see their doctor for a follow up. This
21:38
Speaker 14: is going to be a system to where you can
21:40
Speaker 14: stay in your house. You can wait for the passenger
21:42
Speaker 14: van to pull up, you get in and it drops
21:45
Speaker 14: you off at your location. It's very little walking and
21:48
Speaker 14: it's a lot of trans transportorting, so it's amazing.
21:51
Speaker 4: Talking to Canah, a handy commissioner Lance We Live to
21:53
Speaker 4: Dave Allen showing five Eddie Live is brought to you
21:55
Speaker 4: a part by meex realgy group. Looking for an experience
21:57
Speaker 4: you can trust Rinch the realtor. It meets one of
21:59
Speaker 4: the area premier agent specializing in both commercial and residential
22:02
Speaker 4: real estate. For expert guidance improven results. Contact makes Rich
22:07
Speaker 4: the reeltor three zero four nine three two seventy four
22:09
Speaker 4: eighty eight or email our client that's climb with the
22:11
Speaker 4: k Meekesrealtygroup dot com. You and I were texting back
22:14
Speaker 4: and forth yesterday of us some things I wanted to
22:16
Speaker 4: have you on to talk about. One of those you said, lights, flights, lights.
22:20
Speaker 4: What are we talking about with lights?
22:22
Speaker 14: Well, we're talking about public safety, public safety, and we're
22:24
Speaker 14: talking about public safety. And when we talk about the lights,
22:26
Speaker 14: we talk about the interstates making sure that they're well
22:29
Speaker 14: lit at night whenever people are driving a lot of times,
22:32
Speaker 14: you know deer crossings, maybe somebody is broke down on
22:36
Speaker 14: the side of the road. Maybe a tractor trailer is
22:40
Speaker 14: driving and he's he's at the end of his shift
22:42
Speaker 14: and he's getting a little tired. We want to make
22:44
Speaker 14: sure that the interstate is well lit when it comes
22:47
Speaker 14: to public safety and people driving. And so what this
22:51
Speaker 14: kind of commission done, and I talked to CW segment,
22:54
Speaker 14: our director of Homeland Security had to drive around the
22:58
Speaker 14: interstate looking at the lights and figuring out which ones
23:01
Speaker 14: were not working, broken or the lights were burned out,
23:04
Speaker 14: and we collected a list of those and our intention
23:07
Speaker 14: is to share those with the Department of Highways, let
23:11
Speaker 14: them know that these lights need to be repaired, replaced, fixed,
23:15
Speaker 14: and get those back operable as soon as possible. Because
23:18
Speaker 14: it doesn't take a rocket scientist, Dave, I don't need
23:21
Speaker 14: a political science guy to tell me or even a
23:24
Speaker 14: study to say that you're going to have significally less
23:28
Speaker 14: accidents when the interstate is well lit verse when it's not.
23:32
Speaker 9: And so that's what this is.
23:34
Speaker 14: This commission has always done this every year, and this
23:37
Speaker 14: is in partnership with Department Highways. They're always very, very
23:41
Speaker 14: excited when we do this because they have to cover
23:43
Speaker 14: the entire state and we have the resources to be
23:46
Speaker 14: able to help them out here in Kannall County.
23:49
Speaker 9: So we've asked CW to go out.
23:51
Speaker 14: He's been looking and he did tell me just yesterday
23:54
Speaker 14: that this is probably the best survey that he's ever done.
23:58
Speaker 14: There wasn't as many lights out this time as there
24:01
Speaker 14: was in last year's and that just shows that not
24:03
Speaker 14: only is this sort of a helping but Department of
24:05
Speaker 14: Highways is don't what they're supposed to do.
24:07
Speaker 4: And so the if I'm hearing you correctly, Commissioner, the
24:11
Speaker 4: lights are actually the responsibility of the Department Highways. But
24:16
Speaker 4: but you're kind of working with them on this, right,
24:18
Speaker 4: that's who actually takes care of it.
24:19
Speaker 14: Yeah, absolutely, this is a Department of Highways responsibility. This
24:22
Speaker 14: is just something that we do because we want to help. Sure,
24:25
Speaker 14: it's not something that.
24:26
Speaker 4: It's always been one of my pet pee's lands, to
24:28
Speaker 4: be honest with you, because of somebody who I don't
24:30
Speaker 4: travels much anymore, but somebody who used to travel a
24:33
Speaker 4: lot our interstates. I mean, I understand if you're on
24:35
Speaker 4: a back road somewhere, but our interstates should be a
24:38
Speaker 4: lot more lit than what they are to matter few.
24:41
Speaker 14: Well, and it goes right back to public safety because
24:43
Speaker 14: again they're not If they're not lit, you can have
24:45
Speaker 14: an accident. You can you can prevent an accident with
24:48
Speaker 14: a well that interstate driving at those those speeds and
24:52
Speaker 14: then you know, having those hazards on the side.
24:54
Speaker 15: Of the road.
24:55
Speaker 14: We want to make sure people are safe whether they
24:57
Speaker 14: live here in Kanaal County and they're driving from their
24:59
Speaker 14: designation home, or if they're traveling through from outside of
25:03
Speaker 14: the county or even outside the state. So this is
25:04
Speaker 14: about public safety, This is about doing what's right. We
25:08
Speaker 14: always follow the state code, but just because state code
25:11
Speaker 14: doesn't tell us to do it, we're still going to
25:13
Speaker 14: do it because it's what's right to do. And we've
25:15
Speaker 14: had a great relationship with Department Highways. Usually when we
25:17
Speaker 14: send this letter to them, they're fixed in no time,
25:21
Speaker 14: and we're very appreciative of the work that Department Highways
25:23
Speaker 14: and their staff and their workers do and ensuring this
25:27
Speaker 14: lights are working.
25:28
Speaker 4: Talking again with Knoah count Commissioner Lanceweeler, do you want
25:30
Speaker 4: to remind you the vaccines are your best protection against
25:32
Speaker 4: severe disease from fluid COVID nineteen. If you're sixty five
25:35
Speaker 4: of our older risk lass, do more with this season's vaccines.
25:37
Speaker 4: Get started vaccines dot gov paidpore by the US Department
25:41
Speaker 4: of Health and Human Services. Stuck some demolition.
25:44
Speaker 9: Oh this is my favorite. I'm the demolition.
25:47
Speaker 4: Guy, demolition Lance Wheeler. You love it.
25:50
Speaker 14: You know how many texts I'll get from people saying, Hey,
25:54
Speaker 14: I was told you're the demolition commissioner and I got
25:57
Speaker 14: a property I want you to come look at. This
26:00
Speaker 14: was something that I actually ran for when I ran
26:02
Speaker 14: for office in twenty twenty and got into twenty one,
26:05
Speaker 14: was looking at how we can clean up and keep
26:08
Speaker 14: our community not just clean, but.
26:11
Speaker 9: Remove the eye source.
26:12
Speaker 14: And what you know if you drive through Kennall County
26:16
Speaker 14: is it doesn't take long for you to find a
26:18
Speaker 14: dilapidated structure that's a blight in the community and it's
26:22
Speaker 14: a safety hazard. I mean, you know, back in the
26:25
Speaker 14: I'd say back in the day, just a couple of
26:27
Speaker 14: years ago, you couldn't turn on the news without seeing
26:29
Speaker 14: a vacant fire story on. And you know it's not
26:32
Speaker 14: just necessarily vacant fire, but it's the resources that are
26:36
Speaker 14: firefighters are paramedics, our police officers had to use to
26:40
Speaker 14: go to that scene to take care of it.
26:42
Speaker 9: It was the.
26:43
Speaker 14: Damage that was caused from the home, you know, the
26:46
Speaker 14: beautiful home that maybe just put on brand new siding
26:48
Speaker 14: the other you know, the other month, and now that
26:50
Speaker 14: signing is damaged because the fire. The heat from the
26:53
Speaker 14: fire has just melted it away. Maybe it's the property
26:56
Speaker 14: values that have decreased in a nice little community because
26:59
Speaker 14: one proper owner did not take care of a property
27:02
Speaker 14: and they let it get to a point to where
27:03
Speaker 14: it's uninhabitable and it's falling in on itself. So we
27:08
Speaker 14: made the initiative of moving forward with our demolition and
27:10
Speaker 14: saying how can we do better? And I'm proud to
27:13
Speaker 14: say these results are showing. I mean, we've done over
27:15
Speaker 14: two hundred and fifty demolitions county wide. And when you
27:19
Speaker 14: think about a demolition of a laptate structure, you got
27:21
Speaker 14: to talk about not just the contractor of getting it
27:24
Speaker 14: demolished and removing the debris, but you got to do
27:26
Speaker 14: the asbestos testing. You've got to remove the asbestos before
27:29
Speaker 14: the demolition. These can get costly, but the fact that
27:32
Speaker 14: we were able to get over two hundred and fifty
27:34
Speaker 14: at this point is a testament to the hard work
27:36
Speaker 14: of the Kennall County Commission, our Planning and Development.
27:39
Speaker 9: Staff, and we're moving forward with this.
27:41
Speaker 14: I mean, we were lucky and very appreciative that the
27:44
Speaker 14: state legislature had two years ago appropriated thirty million dollars statewide.
27:49
Speaker 14: We made the announcement that we've we're up to one
27:52
Speaker 14: point five million, the largest amount from that from that bucket.
27:57
Speaker 14: Because of the hard work and the progress that we've made,
28:00
Speaker 14: we've showed that we can do the results, and so
28:02
Speaker 14: we're moving forward. And I just wanted to come on
28:04
Speaker 14: here and remind everyone that we still have money to spend.
28:08
Speaker 14: We have a long list as it is right now,
28:11
Speaker 14: but Kennall County is nine hundred and eleven square miles
28:14
Speaker 14: of area, and we do not have the resources that
28:17
Speaker 14: have con enforcements driving through every holler, every street looking
28:23
Speaker 14: for these and so we rely on referrals from our
28:27
Speaker 14: constituents to say, Hey, I live in a neighborhood and
28:30
Speaker 14: there is a building next to me that's falling in.
28:33
Speaker 9: I would like for the Kanall County Commission to come out.
28:35
Speaker 14: Look at it, do the process, work with the property
28:38
Speaker 14: owner if we can and get this thing removed as
28:41
Speaker 14: a public safety hazard and as a nuisance to the area.
28:44
Speaker 4: And how do they do that. I'm living in I
28:46
Speaker 4: don't know feel in name now, living in St. Albans
28:48
Speaker 4: right now, and there's a building, there's an old home
28:50
Speaker 4: and it's falling into disrepair. What's the process, like, how
28:53
Speaker 4: does that work?
28:54
Speaker 14: You can call our Planning and Development at the Kennall
28:56
Speaker 14: kunt Of Commission that phone numbers three oh four three
28:59
Speaker 14: five seven zero five seven zero, or you can contact
29:02
Speaker 14: my office anytime. Just called the Knell County Commission hotline,
29:05
Speaker 14: ask for megann e Step my assistant, and she'll get.
29:08
Speaker 9: You taken care of.
29:09
Speaker 14: Or as everyone else does, you can find me on
29:12
Speaker 14: social media or find my cell phone number out there
29:15
Speaker 14: which everybody has these days, and just let me know
29:18
Speaker 14: and I'll get with it and we'll see what we
29:20
Speaker 14: can do to get that property taken care of. But
29:23
Speaker 14: you know, it does take time. We there's a process.
29:25
Speaker 14: There's a due process togeah.
29:27
Speaker 4: There's a long process.
29:28
Speaker 9: There is, and a lot of people think we can
29:30
Speaker 9: just come the next day.
29:31
Speaker 4: Now, it's not how it works.
29:32
Speaker 14: And if somebody's living there, we don't move forward with this.
29:35
Speaker 14: We're not kicking gramm All out because we're judging the
29:37
Speaker 14: way that she lives. That's not what this program is.
29:40
Speaker 14: This program is this is uninhabitable. Maybe it was a
29:43
Speaker 14: structure that had structural damage, it's falling in on fire
29:46
Speaker 14: or some maybe it was a fire. Absolutely, but what
29:48
Speaker 14: we have noticed is that we've seen a decrease since
29:51
Speaker 14: this program started. We've seen a decrease of over one
29:54
Speaker 14: hundred and sixty percent decrease in vacant fires by now
29:58
Speaker 14: on one calls. Shows that this program is working because
30:01
Speaker 14: we're getting rid of these laptase structures before they can
30:04
Speaker 14: become a nuisance in the area. But we want to
30:07
Speaker 14: keep moving. We know there's more structures out there that
30:11
Speaker 14: need to be removed, and we also want to make
30:13
Speaker 14: sure that everyone knows we do have a grant program.
30:16
Speaker 14: If you're a property owner of one of these, maybe
30:18
Speaker 14: you inherited it from a family member. Maybe this is
30:20
Speaker 14: a property you bought because it's right next to you
30:23
Speaker 14: and you want to make it extend your yard, but
30:26
Speaker 14: you don't have.
30:26
Speaker 9: The funds to be able to get this demolished.
30:28
Speaker 14: Our grant program will do a fifty to fifty split,
30:31
Speaker 14: so we will pay fifty percent of the demolition, you
30:34
Speaker 14: pay the other fifty percent, and there's no lian put
30:36
Speaker 14: on to the property. And we're able to actually move
30:39
Speaker 14: those quicker because there is no due process, it's voluntary.
30:42
Speaker 14: We can get that done sometimes within four five months,
30:45
Speaker 14: depending on our contractor.
30:47
Speaker 4: That's awesome. We have a texture before we let you go,
30:49
Speaker 4: So is who do I contact or report a culvert
30:51
Speaker 4: being blocked?
30:52
Speaker 14: The same phone number that's going to be three oh
30:54
Speaker 14: four three five seven zero five seven zero.
30:58
Speaker 9: That's our planning and development.
31:00
Speaker 14: They will get a code enforcement officer out there, and
31:03
Speaker 14: obviously you can give my office a call too, and
31:05
Speaker 14: I'll make sure that I follow up on it and
31:07
Speaker 14: we'll find out, you know, if it's blocked, who's responsible,
31:10
Speaker 14: and we'll get it cleared because we want to make
31:12
Speaker 14: sure these culverts are cleared up, because I think that's
31:14
Speaker 14: going to be a big detern of making sure that
31:17
Speaker 14: there's no there's reducing flooding news in the county.
31:21
Speaker 4: That's what we have a lot. It's not river flooding
31:23
Speaker 4: anything like that. It's usually storm drains and things of
31:26
Speaker 4: that nature. KNA County Commissioner Lance Wheler. I appreciate you
31:28

34:33

34:36
Speaker 4: the protest concerning the Big Beautiful Bill. The protest happened
34:39
Speaker 4: to the office of Senator Shelley Moore Capito in the
34:41
Speaker 4: United bilding downtown Charleston. Six people arrested, including two Charleston
34:45
Speaker 4: City council people. One of those council members arrest was
34:48
Speaker 4: Beth Kerns, who represents Ward seven, and she joins us
34:51
Speaker 4: in the studio this morning. Council person, welcome to the show.
34:54
Speaker 3: Thank you so much for having me.
34:56
Speaker 4: Absolutely. And also another not a non counsel person was
34:59
Speaker 4: Morgan Fowler, and she joins us on the phone right now. Morgan,
35:04
Speaker 4: welcome to the show. Thanks for being here.
35:06
Speaker 19: Yeah, David really appreciates you for having us.
35:08
Speaker 4: All Right, so I'll let since Beth, I'm looking at
35:10
Speaker 4: you right now, Morgan will go to you momentarily. What
35:14
Speaker 4: is your major issue with the Big Beautiful Bill?
35:17
Speaker 3: How what's going to affect the majority or West Virginia
35:21
Speaker 3: families And we need to take care of our West
35:24
Speaker 3: Virginia families and ought be so concerned about the billionaires
35:28
Speaker 3: that this bill will benefit, and I'm just concerned about
35:33
Speaker 3: the devastation it's going to happen to so many people's
35:36
Speaker 3: medical care and then their nutrition and food through the
35:39
Speaker 3: SNAP program.
35:41
Speaker 4: All right, Morgan, I'll let you answer that. What that's
35:44
Speaker 4: got you concerned probably along the same lines, but go ahead.
35:48
Speaker 19: Yeah, I mean, I agree with everything that Best said,
35:50
Speaker 19: But in addition to that, I'm a mother to a
35:53
Speaker 19: daughter who's relying up on Medicaid coverage. My aunt relies
35:57
Speaker 19: on Medicaid coverage for her life. She is a stroke survivor.
36:01
Speaker 19: She does not meet the requirements for Medicare, and by
36:04
Speaker 19: cutting her Medicaid it would literally be a deffentence to her.
36:08
Speaker 19: And so on top of everything at Best said, this
36:10
Speaker 19: really like personally hits home to me.
36:12
Speaker 4: What did you, Morgan? What did you hope to accomplish
36:15
Speaker 4: with the protest yesterday?
36:19
Speaker 20: Yeah?
36:19
Speaker 19: I mean we tried the polite route. We called, we emailed,
36:22
Speaker 19: we asked for meetings. We got no response. So we
36:24
Speaker 19: went to her office yesterday peacefully requesting to meet with
36:27
Speaker 19: her staff. We were told that Senator Capito was not available.
36:31
Speaker 19: We were amenable to meet with her staff to express
36:34
Speaker 19: our concerns to them. And relay that message to Senator Capito,
36:37
Speaker 19: but instead of choosing to meet with us, they had
36:40
Speaker 19: us arrested.
36:42
Speaker 4: Rethew want to follow up on that right.
36:44
Speaker 3: In addition to trying to get the attention of the Senator,
36:47
Speaker 3: we also wanted to raise awareness to the West Virginia
36:51
Speaker 3: people about what is going on. So many people don't
36:55
Speaker 3: realize what's going to happen in this bill, and so
36:58
Speaker 3: this was a wake up call for a lot of
37:00
Speaker 3: folks in our state as well. I just think it's deplorable.
37:05
Speaker 3: As a city councilor I take calls from constituents, text messages, emails, letters, whatever,
37:13
Speaker 3: and I respond to each and every single one of them.
37:16
Speaker 3: Not always is a result that they need or want
37:19
Speaker 3: because of the laws, but I respond to every single
37:22
Speaker 3: person that reaches out to me. That's the least the
37:25
Speaker 3: Senator can do. She needs to listen to the people
37:27
Speaker 3: of West Virginia. We are the ones that she works for.
37:32
Speaker 4: Have you also, again we're focusing this on Senator Capitol,
37:37
Speaker 4: but have you also attempted to contact Senator Justice as well?
37:41
Speaker 4: I haven't.
37:41
Speaker 3: No, O, Well, I have called his office and I
37:44
Speaker 3: get if I get anything, it's her recording. Sometimes you
37:48
Speaker 3: don't even get that.
37:49
Speaker 4: Okay, I don't know. I mean possibly, I know Senator
37:52
Speaker 4: Mansin had had an office in Charleston, I'm not I'm
37:54
Speaker 4: sure that the Senator Justice has won as well. So
37:58
Speaker 4: not in Charleston, he didn't have one in Okay, okay,
38:01
Speaker 4: So what has the response been, a counselwoman? What is?
38:05
Speaker 4: What has the response been from the public or people
38:08
Speaker 4: that have reached out to you about this.
38:09
Speaker 3: There has been a handful of negative criticism, but the majority,
38:14
Speaker 3: and I will say hundreds thousands of people have been
38:18
Speaker 3: very supportive and thanked us for doing what we did.
38:22
Speaker 3: You know, we gave voice to those that cannot stand
38:24
Speaker 3: for themselves and to speak up for themselves. A lot
38:28
Speaker 3: of people are timid and they don't want to speak out.
38:32
Speaker 3: They certainly don't want to get arrested. I have never
38:34
Speaker 3: been arrested in my life before, but this was something
38:38
Speaker 3: I was willing to do to get the attention of everybody.
38:43
Speaker 4: This would affect Morgan. I'm gonna ask a question here,
38:46
Speaker 4: and I'm not trying to be a negative. I just
38:48
Speaker 4: wanted to answer, did you guys or did you folks
38:51
Speaker 4: when you went down there, go down there with the
38:53
Speaker 4: with the intent of being arrested to make a statement.
38:57
Speaker 19: We went there to meet with the Senator. We knew
38:59
Speaker 19: that there were a possibility for arrest. We had already decided,
39:03
Speaker 19: some of us had already decided before we went in
39:06
Speaker 19: that if they did refuse to meet with us, that
39:09
Speaker 19: we would stay and sit in. But our initial attempt
39:13
Speaker 19: was to meet with the senator. It was not to
39:15
Speaker 19: be arrested, but we knew that that was a possibility,
39:17
Speaker 19: and some of us were willing to take that risk.
39:19
Speaker 4: And she was in d C. I understand yesterday, that's correct.
39:23
Speaker 19: We did call her office on the live stream. We
39:27
Speaker 19: let them know what we were there for. They assured
39:29
Speaker 19: us that they were working on it. I asked to
39:31
Speaker 19: speak specifically to her lead field representatives at a station
39:35
Speaker 19: here in Charleston into no avail. We were short arrested
39:39
Speaker 19: almost immediately. We were only in there for about thirty minutes.
39:43
Speaker 4: I was going to ask you what was the process, like,
39:45
Speaker 4: I mean, it was Charleston p D. I guess that
39:47
Speaker 4: arrested you, right, correct?
39:49
Speaker 19: Yeah, they actually they knew that we were coming. They
39:53
Speaker 19: actually had building staff downstairs, and so some of us
39:57
Speaker 19: had made it up into the building. First, they stopped
40:00
Speaker 19: almost over half of the people who had came with
40:02
Speaker 19: us downstairs and didn't even let them into the lobby.
40:05
Speaker 19: They wouldn't even let the gazette mail in.
40:07
Speaker 4: So there was there were six arrested. How many people
40:10
Speaker 4: were in the total group?
40:12
Speaker 19: So the people that you saw downstairs protesting were actually
40:15
Speaker 19: with us to come upstairs. They were downstairs because they
40:18
Speaker 19: weren't allowed in the building.
40:19
Speaker 4: I got you, I got you, okay. And we're talking
40:20
Speaker 4: to Morgan Fowler and Beth Currns, who were two of
40:23
Speaker 4: the folks that were arrested yesterday. Either one of you, Morgan,
40:27
Speaker 4: I'll start with you. Are there more protest planned?
40:32
Speaker 20: We don't have.
40:32
Speaker 19: Anything definitive right now. There's a lot of energy. I've
40:35
Speaker 19: received hundreds of messages of people who didn't even know
40:38
Speaker 19: that this was kind of going on, who want to
40:40
Speaker 19: be involved, people that are affected by this. So we're
40:41
Speaker 19: kind of just trying to see what steps we want
40:43
Speaker 19: to take next. I would really rather be able to
40:46
Speaker 19: meet with the Senator than to have to continue doing
40:48
Speaker 19: civil disobedience to have access to our elected officials, but
40:51
Speaker 19: I think that's kind of the ball in their court.
40:53
Speaker 4: So you guys are I guess you have a court
40:56
Speaker 4: case in July. That's what happens next. Beth, Yes, okay,
41:00
Speaker 4: and that's true. And what were you actually charged with?
41:03
Speaker 4: Trusts misdemeanor? Okay?
41:06
Speaker 3: And I do want to give a shout out to
41:08
Speaker 3: the Charleston Police Department. They were very respectful, They were
41:11
Speaker 3: very polite, kind and of course we were polite compliant
41:16
Speaker 3: with them as well. It was they made the whole
41:20
Speaker 3: process as easy as possible for us.
41:23
Speaker 4: I mean, there is something to be said for civil
41:26
Speaker 4: disobedience and everybody trying to, you know, play nice with
41:28
Speaker 4: each other so to speak. I mean, because they had
41:30
Speaker 4: a job to do and you completely understand that you
41:32
Speaker 4: were there for a purpose. Uh, we'll let you folks go.
41:35
Speaker 4: But Beth, I'll start with you, and then Morgan, I'll
41:37
Speaker 4: wrap it up with you. What would you say to
41:39
Speaker 4: Senator Capitol now, or any elected official, any anybody in
41:43
Speaker 4: Washington that is looking at this big, beautiful bill. What
41:46
Speaker 4: would your message be to them now?
41:48
Speaker 3: They need to listen to the people that they represent
41:51
Speaker 3: and do what's best for the people, not for any
41:53
Speaker 3: hidden agenda, and not for their own personal gain. Politically,
41:57
Speaker 3: financially or anything else.
41:59
Speaker 4: All right, you want to close it out.
42:02
Speaker 19: Yeah, I just really urged them to look at how
42:04
Speaker 19: this is really going to affect, specifically the people throughout
42:07
Speaker 19: the state of West Virginia. There's a lot of things
42:09
Speaker 19: in this bill, and this bill it's a really big bill.
42:12
Speaker 19: I don't think people really have the full knowledge of
42:15
Speaker 19: what this actually can do, and so I just urged
42:18
Speaker 19: them to really look deeper into how this is going
42:20
Speaker 19: to affect the people that they were elected to represent.
42:23
Speaker 19: And I would ask them to be more accessible to
42:25
Speaker 19: the people that they represent, just because you choose not
42:27
Speaker 19: to agree, maybe politically with the people you were elected
42:30
Speaker 19: to represent them. And so your job is to be
42:33
Speaker 19: a representative of your people. And when I'm seventy percent
42:35
Speaker 19: of the people in your state are going to be
42:37
Speaker 19: affected by this bill, I don't think it's a hard
42:38
Speaker 19: ass to communicate with your constituents.
42:41
Speaker 4: Morgan Fowler and Charleston City council person Beth Currents. I
42:45
Speaker 4: appreciate you both for taking time on your schedule to
42:47
Speaker 4: be here today. Thanks a lot.
42:48
Speaker 3: Well, thanks so much for having us the.
42:49
Speaker 4: One all right, Morgan, thanks thanks to you as well.
42:52
Speaker 19: Yeah, thanks Dave I really appreciate it all right.
42:54

46:07
Speaker 4: bees on the show today as well. And there was
46:10
Speaker 4: an announcement that came at late last night that about
46:12
Speaker 4: three hundred coal miners from a company based in Raleigh
46:16
Speaker 4: County but with mines in other areas. Those miners are
46:20

46:58
Speaker 4: some of the hosting duties are going to be handled
46:59
Speaker 4: by Amy Breedlove and you may recognize Amy. Amy was
47:04
Speaker 4: on Metro News Midday with Me a couple of weeks ago,
47:07
Speaker 4: and she's also been on the local show as well.
47:10
Speaker 4: Amy is a native of Charleston and it's been quite
47:14
Speaker 4: a career for herself in the voiceover business. She is
47:16
Speaker 4: a world renowned voiceover artist. If you go to Target
47:20

47:24
Speaker 4: voice of Amy Breedlove and you'll recognize it when she's

47:29
Speaker 4: as a sort of a I'm gonna be here, but
47:33
Speaker 4: I'm gonna try. She doesn't know it yet, but I'm
47:34
Speaker 4: gonna can't basically turn the show over to her coming
47:37
Speaker 4: up tomorrow, and so you definitely want to check that out.

47:54
Speaker 4: As you may imagine, I got a bunch of texts
47:55
Speaker 4: to get to and I will get to those now,
47:58
Speaker 4: Texas Dave. Any cuts to Medicaid and SNAP are from
48:01
Speaker 4: illegal aliens and those that are able to work. It's
48:05
Speaker 4: called fraud. These people are lying and trying to scare
48:08
Speaker 4: folks like they always do here in Florida where I am.
48:12
Speaker 4: The Texture says it is not tolerated. Says it's extra Well,
48:16
Speaker 4: the if I appreciate the text, the majority of people
48:21
Speaker 4: that are on Medicaid are working. It's something like seventy
48:23
Speaker 4: to eighty percent are working. Now. Is their fraud within
48:26
Speaker 4: the Medicare system? Medicaid system absolutely there. It's governmental, so
48:30
Speaker 4: there's going to be fraud. That's the way it works. Uh.
48:32
Speaker 4: But point to point point taken there by, the Texture
48:37
Speaker 4: text said, so they went there to meet with the senator,
48:39
Speaker 4: but they knew the Senator wasn't there. Well, and as
48:43
Speaker 4: they said, the Charleston Police department knew that that they
48:46
Speaker 4: were coming. They wanted to meet with representatives from Senator
48:51
Speaker 4: Capitol's office. And but I think they I mean, you know,
48:58
Speaker 4: how can I say that. I think, as Morgan said,
49:01
Speaker 4: I think they knew going there that there was a
49:03
Speaker 4: possibility of being arrested. I asked the question, did they
49:06
Speaker 4: go there hoping to be arrested? And uh uh and
49:10
Speaker 4: and I think she gave an honest answer that the
49:12
Speaker 4: possibility was there. And I saw this was going all
49:17
Speaker 4: over SOCIALI I made some comments about it myself last night,
49:19
Speaker 4: but I also I mean, I had my own opinions
49:21
Speaker 4: on it. But I also believe in free speech, and
49:24
Speaker 4: I believe in allowing people to tell their side of
49:27
Speaker 4: the story. And that's why I reached out to a
49:30
Speaker 4: council person, Kurns, and also uh to Morgan Power. I
49:34
Speaker 4: did not know either one of them. I knew of
49:37
Speaker 4: councilwoman Kerns obviously being a Charleston City council person, but
49:40
Speaker 4: I did not know Morgan Fowler at all. Just reached
49:43
Speaker 4: out to them and said, hey, you want to come
49:45
Speaker 4: on and show and tell your story. That's kind of
49:46
Speaker 4: what we do here, you know, let people come in.
49:48
Speaker 4: Doesn't matter whether I agree or disagree or whatever. We
49:51
Speaker 4: just we let them. We just let them come in
49:53
Speaker 4: and talk and give their side of the story. And
49:56
Speaker 4: this Big Beautiful Bill is still being debated in Charleston,
49:59
Speaker 4: is going to I mean in Washington. Was obviously debated
50:02
Speaker 4: to Charleston as well, but I mean also also in
50:05
Speaker 4: Washington as well. And there are some Republicans that aren't
50:08
Speaker 4: on board with it and some you know, yesterday on
50:11
Speaker 4: the show, I had Jason Huffman from Americans for Prosperity
50:13
Speaker 4: on who is very much that was on the midday show,
50:15
Speaker 4: Who's very much in favor of the Big Beautiful Bill?
50:18
Speaker 4: And he said, you know, there's some divisions. Some people
50:21
Speaker 4: like the House versions, some people like the Senate version.
50:23
Speaker 4: I don't know what's gonna happen. But the work continues
50:26
Speaker 4: on it. That's all. That's all I can tell you.
50:28
Speaker 4: But Dave Island Show in five Ady Live is brought
50:29
Speaker 4: to you a part by Live Healthy West Virginia, presented
50:31
Speaker 4: by WVU Medicine. It's a podcast offering insights into medical
50:35
Speaker 4: breakthroughs some preventative care, featuring wvu's expert physicians. Check it
50:39
Speaker 4: out under the podcast menu at metronews dot com. Let
50:45
Speaker 4: me see texays the protesters characterization of Crapito is accurate.
50:50
Speaker 4: That's their word, Crapaito, not mine. She's not responsive to
50:54
Speaker 4: and does not care about anyone who can't or won't
50:56
Speaker 4: give her money, publicity, or power. She never returns call,
51:00
Speaker 4: never takes calls, never holds town halls, never except's meetings,
51:02
Speaker 4: and otherwise ignores regular folks. Well, I can tell you that,
51:06
Speaker 4: and I'm not involved in the office of Senator Gentlly
51:10
Speaker 4: Moore Capital, I can tell you she has plenty of
51:11
Speaker 4: meetings with constituents. I do know that. Now about town halls,
51:15
Speaker 4: I don't know. I don't, but I'll be honest with you.
51:19
Speaker 4: If you watch the news and you see the venom
51:22
Speaker 4: that's being spewed in these town halls right now, I
51:26
Speaker 4: don't know if I am a Republican or a Democrat
51:29
Speaker 4: if I would have a town hall either. I mean,
51:31
Speaker 4: because people are getting out of hand. And I'm not
51:33
Speaker 4: talking about the people that were protesting he her office yesterday.
51:36
Speaker 4: I'm talking I mean meeting with a small group of
51:38
Speaker 4: people I think would probably be okay in my opinion,
51:42
Speaker 4: meeting with a large group of people with the temperature
51:44
Speaker 4: in this country right now. On either side, I'm gonna
51:48
Speaker 4: probably say no, I probably wouldn't do it. If I
51:51
Speaker 4: were her, or a Democrat or whatever, I probably wouldn't. Texas,
51:55
Speaker 4: The protest the Senator Capitol's office was a joke. These
51:57
Speaker 4: are the same liberal hacks who invited the homeless Charleston.
52:00
Speaker 4: He only cuts of these programs for people who do
52:02
Speaker 4: not qualify for them. People who can work should work,
52:05
Speaker 4: not rely on my hard earned tax dollars. Texas. Wasn't
52:09
Speaker 4: Amy a dj on V one hundred seven years ago? Yes,
52:12
Speaker 4: she was, and we'll talk about that with her on
52:13
Speaker 4: the show tomorrow. Hey, thanks to all the guests today.
52:15
Speaker 4: Ryan Nicholson, the producer, thank you so much as well.
