Speaker 3: now because Christmas is always big in South Charleston always

Speaker 3: as Vicky Vaughn. As with the City of Charleston, South
• 3:00
Speaker 3: Charleston and the CVB, there is that rights center. Yeah,
• 3:03
Speaker 3: that's great to have you with us. And you are
• 3:06
Speaker 3: not responsible in any way, shape, form or fashion for
• 3:09
Speaker 3: the Christmas tree at the Capitol falling. Is that right?
• 3:11
Speaker 3: I am not all right If you don't know what
• 3:14
Speaker 3: we're talking about, we get pictures posted about. It's the
• 3:16
Speaker 3: lead story this Morningwe metro news dot com. They had
• 3:18
Speaker 3: the Joyful Night celebration there last night and because of
• 3:22
Speaker 3: the high winds the tree fell. I'm sure they're working
• 3:26
Speaker 3: on as we speak to put it back up again. Yeah,
• 3:28
Speaker 3: but it fell that this morning. But you are not
• 3:30
Speaker 3: responsible for that. No, I am not anyway. So what
• 3:34
Speaker 3: do we have going on in South Charleston.
• 3:36
Speaker 6: Well, Friday evening we have the Christmas tree lining and
• 3:40
Speaker 6: drone show over the mound and it begins at five
• 3:44
Speaker 6: point thirty. It goes until seven o'clock. We'll have Christmas music.
• 3:48
Speaker 6: The Women's Club of South Charleston will serve free hot chocolate. Also,
• 3:52
Speaker 6: the Road South Charleston Rotary Club will serve free hot

• 4:00
Speaker 6: see Rudolph snow White. Santa will be on stage for
• 4:03
Speaker 6: the children to sit on his lap and tell them
• 4:05
Speaker 6: what they want for Christmas. And we will be passing
• 4:08
Speaker 6: out candy canes, coloring books, crayons, and we're just really
• 4:12
Speaker 6: excited about the drone show that'll happen around six point
• 4:15
Speaker 6: thirty and then the Mayor of South Charleston will like
• 4:19
Speaker 6: the tree at six forty five.
• 4:20
Speaker 3: And that's all coming up tomorrow tomorrow, tomorrow night, all right,
• 4:24
Speaker 3: and so and I know your businesses are going to
• 4:26
Speaker 3: be a big part of that as well. Yeah, you
• 4:28
Speaker 3: mentioned a few of them there, because we want to
• 4:29
Speaker 3: encourage people that when you go out to these events,
• 4:31
Speaker 3: whether it's South Charleston or any time, to try to
• 4:34
Speaker 3: make time to stop into the businesses that are open.
• 4:36
Speaker 6: Down there exactly. And there also is a window decorating
• 4:39
Speaker 6: contest in South Charleston, and so check out the windows,
• 4:43
Speaker 6: decide which one is your favorite, and then you can
• 4:45

• 5:03
  Speaker 6: Definitely.
• 5:03
Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean they got a lot of little quaint
• 5:07
Speaker 3: to hate that term because it's so over you, but
• 5:09
Speaker 3: a lot of little quaint shops in South Charles. We
• 5:11
Speaker 3: definitely have had bigger shops too.
• 5:13
Speaker 6: Yes, we certainly do.
• 5:15
Speaker 3: Talk with Vicky Vaughan again from the Sydney of South
• 5:18
Speaker 3: Charles and the Visitors Center. Now, the Christmas Parade is
• 5:20
Speaker 3: going to be Saturday, and that's one of over the
• 5:25
Speaker 3: next couple of days. That's well Charleston was postponed tonight,
• 5:27
Speaker 3: but one of four that our station are going to
• 5:29

Speaker 6: Breade, Yes, the Christmas Parade will be at twelve noon
• 5:36
Speaker 6: on D Street. There's plenty of parking on all the
• 5:40
Speaker 6: side streets. D Street will be blocked off obviously because
• 5:43
Speaker 6: that's where the parade will be. There'll be lots of
• 5:46
Speaker 6: candy thrown out for the kids, decorated floats, grinches, Santa
• 5:50
Speaker 6: church groups, Spinny keatam Highland Landers, the band, the Bagpipes,
• 5:56
Speaker 6: the Oriental Band. We'll have motorcycles, classic cars, antique track.
• 6:00
Speaker 6: There's dancers, marching bands, beauty queens and twirlers. So bring
• 6:04
Speaker 6: bundle up, bring the kids, and it's going to be
• 6:07
Speaker 6: such a fun, fun parade. We have about one hundred
• 6:10
Speaker 6: units in the Prey this year.
• 6:12
Speaker 3: It's always big. I mean, any guys do it upright,
• 6:15
Speaker 3: whether it's this parade or whatever, you know, the other
• 6:17
Speaker 3: praise that you do. Can people still sign up to
• 6:19
Speaker 3: be in the Prey?
• 6:20
  Speaker 6: They absolutely can.
• 6:22
Speaker 3: Yes, That's what's the best way to do that.
• 6:24
Speaker 6: They what they want to do is get on our website,
• 6:28
Speaker 6: which is visit South CHARLESTONWV dot com, and right there
• 6:32
Speaker 6: on the front pages a sign up for the parade.
• 6:35
Speaker 3: We'll get back to talking about the Christmas stuff in
• 6:37
Speaker 3: South Charleston here in a capital moments. But I'm going
• 6:39
Speaker 3: to ask you about your role as as president. You're
• 6:42
Speaker 3: with the Visitors Center there in South Charleston. Tell me
• 6:47
Speaker 3: about some of the things that you do and some
• 6:49
Speaker 3: some other exciting things going on in South Charleston.
• 6:52
Speaker 6: I am with the Visitor Center, so I am to
• 6:54
Speaker 6: promote anything in South Charleston, and my focuses are places
• 6:58
Speaker 6: to eat and events going on. So that's what I do.
• 7:03
Speaker 6: I promote anything South Charleston and the events, work on
• 7:08
Speaker 6: the events, and so we on social media we tell
• 7:12
Speaker 6: you about everything going on and also places you can
• 7:15
Speaker 6: shop and eat and fun things that you can do.
• 7:18
Speaker 6: So that is what I do.
• 7:21
Speaker 3: But Dave Island Chilling five eighty line is brought to

• 7:38
Speaker 3: Huston's Pizza dot com. What do you think are some
• 7:39
Speaker 3: of the biggest misconceptions about South Charleston.
• 7:42
  Speaker 6: Vicki's it seems like it's a small town, but it's
• 7:47
Speaker 6: really not. There's something going on all the time. You know,
• 7:50
Speaker 6: we have the ice skating rink. We something that people
• 7:53
Speaker 6: don't know is we have a museum right beside the
• 7:55
Speaker 6: Lavelle Theater on D Street, and that museum has Carbid artifacts.
• 8:00
Speaker 6: It has everything that was in the mound, you know,
• 8:04
Speaker 6: mockups of everything that was in the mound and the
• 8:07
Speaker 6: Ordnance Center information. So it is it is full of
• 8:12
Speaker 6: different things for you to see, arrowheads, Indian eraheads and
• 8:16
Speaker 6: all that. It's like a hidden gym in South Charleston.
• 8:18
Speaker 3: And with all these activities that have been going on
• 8:21
Speaker 3: in the Kanaal Valley, I mean it's really ramped up
• 8:23
Speaker 3: over the last couple of years, you know, sports tourism
• 8:26
Speaker 3: and what's going on out Shawnee and what's going on,
• 8:29
Speaker 3: you know in Charleston with Regatta and all these different
• 8:32
Speaker 3: festivals and on down to Putnam County too, and include
• 8:35
Speaker 3: those folks in here as well. South Charleston is a
• 8:38
Speaker 3: good location for people to check out when they come
• 8:41
  Speaker 3: to town.
• 8:41
Speaker 6: We are in the middle of everything and we have
• 8:45
Speaker 6: several hotels and the hotels are really nice and so
• 8:48
Speaker 6: people really like to stay in our hotels. We have
• 8:51
Speaker 6: a fair Field by Marriott. We have a holiday in
• 8:53
Speaker 6: Charleston West that has an indoor swimming pool and that's
• 8:56
Speaker 6: a draw for a lot of people. And don't forget
• 8:59
Speaker 6: about Little Creek Park, so when people are visiting, they
• 9:02
Speaker 6: can go over to the park and new this year,
• 9:04
Speaker 6: we have lights in the park, the first annual and
• 9:08
Speaker 6: so that will be every evening from six to nine
• 9:12
Speaker 6: until Christmas Eve and it's free, there's no charge. And
• 9:16
Speaker 6: on the thirteenth December thirteenth and fourteenth there will be
• 9:20
Speaker 6: Santa and the kids can have free hot chocolate and
• 9:22
Speaker 6: cookies and see Santa.
• 9:24
Speaker 3: It's a lot of exciting stuff going on there in
• 9:26
Speaker 3: South Charleston. Of course, you got the mall project and
• 9:28
Speaker 3: it's not not said something you're here to talk about,
• 9:30
Speaker 3: but you got the mall project and also excited about yeah,
• 9:33
Speaker 3: because it's going to be a really really big deal.
• 9:35
Speaker 3: It already is. And then there's some changes coming to
• 9:38
Speaker 3: the South Charleston Community Center I understand as well, just
• 9:40
  Speaker 3: to report about.
• 9:41
Speaker 6: That the other day, Invention Center and Sports center. So
• 9:44
Speaker 6: we're excited about can you give it to you. I
• 9:48
Speaker 6: don't really have the information on that. I'm not on the.
• 9:50
Speaker 3: Economics development, but it's going to be a big deal.
• 9:53
Speaker 6: But it's going to be a big deal, and I'm
• 9:56
Speaker 6: sure the mayor would like to come in absolutely.
• 9:58
Speaker 3: I talked to the mayor yesterday. In fact, anytime that
• 10:01
Speaker 3: any of our mayors are have something to promote, all
• 10:05
Speaker 3: they could do is reach out to me. Let's go
• 10:06
Speaker 3: back and kind of recap everything you got going on
• 10:09
Speaker 3: tomorrow night and also on Saturday christ So.
• 10:13
Speaker 6: The tree lighting and drone show at the Mound and
• 10:16
Speaker 6: the drune show, it's very captivating. It's a wonderful thing
• 10:20
Speaker 6: to see in the sky. You know, we had one
• 10:23
Speaker 6: at Summerfest and people loved it. There's going to be
• 10:25
Speaker 6: music there, the free hot chocolate cookies. We have characters
• 10:30
Speaker 6: Frosty Rootolph, snow White Santa on stage for the kids.
• 10:33
Speaker 6: We're going to be passing out candy canes, coloring books
• 10:35
Speaker 6: and crayons. And the drune show begins at six thirty
• 10:39
Speaker 6: and the Mayor will light the tree at six forty five.
• 10:42
Speaker 6: Don't forget to follow the South Charleston Convention and visitor
• 10:45
Speaker 6: Beer on social media. We will have the parade at
• 10:48
Speaker 6: twelve noon. There's lots of side street parking, There'll be
• 10:52
Speaker 6: lots of candy thrown out, lots of really cool things
• 10:55
Speaker 6: in the parade, one hundred different units to see. Bundle
• 10:57
Speaker 6: the kids up and come. They're going to have a
• 10:59
Speaker 6: blast and Little Creek Park the lights there now from
• 11:02
Speaker 6: six to nine each evening through December twenty fourth, and
• 11:06
Speaker 6: on the thirteenth and fourteenth of December, they'll be Santa
• 11:10
Speaker 6: for the kids, hot chocolate and cookies.
• 11:12
Speaker 3: Lots of stuff going on in South Charleston, and you
• 11:14
Speaker 3: can check out what's the give us a couple of
• 11:16
Speaker 3: the social media sites in the way again.
• 11:18
Speaker 6: On Facebook and Instagram. It's the South Charleston Convention and
• 11:23
Speaker 6: Visitor Bureau. And then also we have that would be
• 11:30
Speaker 6: the social media that you would want to check. And
• 11:33
Speaker 6: then our website where you can vote for your favorite
• 11:36
Speaker 6: decorated Christmas decorated window is visit South Charleston, WV dot

  Speaker 6: information on there.
• 11:46
Speaker 3: All right, Vick, you appreciate you being here. I got
• 11:48
Speaker 3: a text here. I don't think you can do anything
• 11:50
Speaker 3: about this, but I'm gonna throw it out there anyways.
• 11:51
Speaker 3: Text says, anyway, you can speak to the owner of
• 11:54
Speaker 3: Susie's and let them know we would love if they
• 11:56
Speaker 3: would stay open past nude. They would make a killing
• 11:58
Speaker 3: if they stayed open until say eight o'clock.
• 12:01
Speaker 6: Okay, I'll pass along that information. I don't know if
• 12:04
Speaker 6: you've ever had Susie's ham sandwich on a biscuit.
• 12:08

• 12:17
Speaker 3: to make it there. I'm going to have to tell
• 12:19

• 12:22
Speaker 3: Mayor Mullins that he owes me breakfast for breakfast doesn't
• 12:26
Speaker 3: work for me, but he needs to he owes me
• 12:27

• 12:40
Speaker 6: It will not. The parade will be live stream, but
• 12:43
Speaker 6: the Drone show will not.
• 12:44

Speaker 3: Welcome to the show. Good morning, Thanks for having me.
• 17:49
Speaker 3: Give us a little background on Jeremy.
• 17:51
Speaker 10: Who are you good question? Well, I grew up here
• 17:55
Speaker 10: in Kennall County. I graduated from Niro High School in
• 17:58
Speaker 10: nineteen ninety six. Uh grew up in Cross Lanes and
• 18:03
Speaker 10: I went to school at Glenville State on a basketball scholarship,
• 18:06
Speaker 10: and then I ended up transferring to w U got
• 18:08
Speaker 10: my undergrad from there, and I came back here to Charleston.
• 18:11
Speaker 10: I actually worked here downtown for I was an accountant
• 18:14
Speaker 10: for the Charleston alley Cats, and then they converged over
• 18:18
Speaker 10: to the Power and I was part of the new
• 18:20
Speaker 10: Appalachian Power Parks as the team accountant there, and then
• 18:24
Speaker 10: I moved on to Brooksallivin LifeWay Center. I was the
• 18:27
Speaker 10: CFO for for the nonprofit agency there. And then a
• 18:31
Speaker 10: job opportunity popped up in Putnam County and I got
• 18:33
Speaker 10: into county government. I ended up being the county manager
• 18:36
Speaker 10: for Putnham County for ten years. And this opportunity that
• 18:39
Speaker 10: came up in Connall, Jennifer Harold retired or left to
• 18:45
Speaker 10: go out of state, and she did a wonderful job.
• 18:48
Speaker 3: I was gonna that was gonna be one of my
• 18:49
Speaker 3: comments about Jennifer. You had some pretty big shoes to
• 18:51
  Speaker 3: fill there, man.
• 18:52
Speaker 10: Yes, absolutely, And and uh, you know, I've not heard
• 18:54
Speaker 10: one bad word about Jennifer. She she has done an
• 18:57
Speaker 10: excellent job and and kind of grew up within the
• 18:59
Speaker 10: courthouse here at all counties.
• 19:00
Speaker 3: She and her husband are fellow Georgia Bulldogs fans, so
• 19:03
Speaker 3: like I am right, And so I said that on
• 19:05
Speaker 3: the air a couple of times, and she would send
• 19:06
Speaker 3: me a text about it, and I actually got to
• 19:08
Speaker 3: meet him at an event downtown. We talked a little
• 19:10
  Speaker 3: Georgia football.
• 19:11
Speaker 10: So yeah, I mean, I still get to tie. I
• 19:13
Speaker 10: just just got off the phone with her earlier this morning.
• 19:14
Speaker 10: She's still in a contract with the county on on
• 19:18
Speaker 10: certain things that she was involved with in the transition,
• 19:20
Speaker 10: so she's going to be very helpful. And I feel like,
• 19:23
Speaker 10: you know, working in Putnam County, we've had a lot
• 19:25
Speaker 10: of projects over the years and a lot of positive
• 19:27
Speaker 10: things there that that have increased my knowledge of of
• 19:31
Speaker 10: how county government works. And you know, when when this
• 19:34
Speaker 10: opportunity came up, I thought it was something that would
• 19:37
Speaker 10: be really good at. And you know, I've really enjoyed
• 19:39
Speaker 10: working in county government. It's really unique because you know,
• 19:42
Speaker 10: you work for three different commissioners, but also the relationships
• 19:46
Speaker 10: within the courthouse of other elected officials, and it's kind
• 19:49
Speaker 10: of like being the peacemaker, being the county manager and
• 19:51
Speaker 10: making sure everybody's you know, moving in the right direction,
• 19:54
Speaker 10: and making sure everybody has open lines of communication.
• 19:58
Speaker 4: You know. But it's exciting.
• 20:00
Speaker 10: You know. I like to say, no two days are
• 20:01
Speaker 10: the same in county government, and that's why it's exciting
• 20:04
Speaker 10: to get up and go to work every day because
• 20:05
Speaker 10: you you know, it's not always positive things, as we know,
• 20:08
Speaker 10: but but you know, I never turned down a challenge
• 20:11
Speaker 10: and it's been really exciting and be able to come
• 20:13
Speaker 10: back home to the county I grew up in and
• 20:16
Speaker 10: be able to to help and keep moving the county forward.
• 20:21
Speaker 4: Is exciting to me.
• 20:22
Speaker 3: Talk about some of the duties. What is on the
• 20:24
Speaker 3: job description. I know you mentioned some of it there,
• 20:26
Speaker 3: but overall, what are the job duties of a county manager?
• 20:29
Speaker 10: Yeah, and every county is a little bit different. We're
• 20:31
Speaker 10: fortunate here in Kanaw County to have a larger staff.
• 20:34
Speaker 10: Obviously it's a it's a big county, but here in Kanaw,
• 20:38
  Speaker 10: it you know, it's a lot of it's a lot
• 20:39
Speaker 10: about relationship building. It's it's managing your your staff inside
• 20:43
Speaker 10: the courthouse. You know, there's multiple departments that that report
• 20:47
Speaker 10: to to the County Commission that are under our control,
• 20:50
Speaker 10: you know, so managing those department heads on a daily
• 20:53
Speaker 10: basis and any employee related matters, making sure that we
• 20:57
Speaker 10: we stay on budget, all the budgeting go through through
• 21:00
Speaker 10: the commission office, you know, and being on constant communication
• 21:05
Speaker 10: with with your commissioners, and you know, making sure that
• 21:08
Speaker 10: you're prepared for anything that needs to be made public,
• 21:12
Speaker 10: you know, and getting ready for commission meetings, and you know,
• 21:14
  Speaker 10: there's there's just really a lot to it, but it's
• 21:17
Speaker 10: it's about managing people, managing budget, and have working relationships
• 21:22
Speaker 10: with with the public.
• 21:24
Speaker 3: Speaking of the County Commission, we would be remiss if
• 21:26
Speaker 3: we did not mention that today is the birthday of
• 21:29
Speaker 3: one of the Knaw County Commission, the Commission President Lance Wheeler.
• 21:31
Speaker 3: So we want to give a big shout out at.
• 21:33
Speaker 10: Wheel Happy birthday to the commission President.
• 21:35
  Speaker 4: Mister Wheeler.
• 21:36
Speaker 3: You got to keep your boss happy, that's right, you know.
• 21:38
Speaker 3: So what are some of the things that are on
• 21:41
Speaker 3: your radar now, Jeremy, as you head into the new
• 21:45
Speaker 3: year and the year twenty twenty five. I mean, what
• 21:47
Speaker 3: are some of the things that have got you excited
• 21:49
Speaker 3: about Knawa County moving forward?
• 21:51
Speaker 10: Well, you know, there's a lot of positive things going on.
• 21:54
Speaker 10: I think, you know, from a from a tourist standpoint,
• 21:57
Speaker 10: I know that the county and both the city with
• 22:00
Speaker 10: Mayor Goodwin, they've they've done a lot of really good
• 22:03
Speaker 10: things to revitalize downtown Charleston and bring people back to
• 22:07
Speaker 10: the city. I know the Capital Sports Project is one
• 22:10
Speaker 10: that has been discussed a little bit with the mall.
• 22:13
Speaker 10: And you know, growing up with or having kids in sports,
• 22:16
Speaker 10: and I still coach girls basketball high school, so just
• 22:20
Speaker 10: seeing youth activities for kids and I see what that
• 22:24
Speaker 10: sports tourism has done in other communities when we've gone
• 22:27
Speaker 10: out of state, and to be able to have something
• 22:29
Speaker 10: like that here locally, I think it's going to be
• 22:32
Speaker 10: a huge draw for not just for for financial reasons,
• 22:35
Speaker 10: but for forgiving youth plau a place to go to
• 22:38
Speaker 10: to to work out, to play sports, and to draw
• 22:42
Speaker 10: people back into the town center because as we know,
• 22:45
Speaker 10: everything's kind of moved away to the outlet malls and
• 22:47
Speaker 10: things like that, so to get that foot traffic, I
• 22:50
Speaker 10: think that's exciting. Also, we're we're involved with the judicial project.
• 22:54
Speaker 10: I know we we we had initial bids that that
• 22:57
Speaker 10: came over budget, so that's something that we're on top
• 23:00
Speaker 10: of and trying to go back to the drawing board
• 23:03
Speaker 10: and making sure that we're we're able to complete that
• 23:05
Speaker 10: project under budget. It is going to be a lengthy
• 23:07
Speaker 10: project is as you know, we have to stay open,
• 23:09
Speaker 10: the courts have to stay open during this, so it's
• 23:11
Speaker 10: going to take a little longer to go through that remodel,
• 23:14
Speaker 10: but we we we're going to make sure that we
• 23:17
Speaker 10: get it done and under budget and on time.
• 23:19
Speaker 3: Let's go back and talk a little bit about the
• 23:21
Speaker 3: proposed Capital Sports Center. I mean I know, and every
• 23:24
Speaker 3: time I have a commissioner Selangowan, he says, well, we
• 23:26
Speaker 3: got we have number one. We have to get another name.
• 23:28
Speaker 3: We know that we've all just kind of been calling
• 23:30
Speaker 3: it that, but it will eventually have another name. Where
• 23:32
Speaker 3: are you and what is your vision? What would you
• 23:35
Speaker 3: like to see happen there at the well?
• 23:36
Speaker 10: And I've not been in any meeting, so I don't
• 23:39
Speaker 10: speak for for anybody else, but but obviously I know
• 23:42
Speaker 10: that you know, having having indoor facilities that have basketball, volleyball.
• 23:49
  Speaker 3: I know there's been mentioned of a pool. I don't
• 23:50
Speaker 3: know if that's going to happen or not.
• 23:51
Speaker 10: I know there's a lot of folks out there that
• 23:53
Speaker 10: that that see the need for for a you know,
• 23:56
Speaker 10: Olympic sized swimming pool and so forth. But you know,
• 24:00
Speaker 10: have an indoor you know, we've had, We've got the
• 24:02
Speaker 10: Shawnee Sports Complex. I know in Putnam County we had
• 24:04
Speaker 10: the Valley Park project and the city Hurricane did a
• 24:07
Speaker 10: project and we've seen what that does from a baseball
• 24:09
Speaker 10: standpoint in outdoor sports, but there's really not that indoor
• 24:14
Speaker 10: facility like you said at Bridgeport and Wheeling and some
• 24:17
Speaker 10: of these places in the state that have that and
• 24:20
Speaker 10: just how positive that is. So, you know, just just
• 24:24
Speaker 10: having the flexibility of multiple sports where it's not locked
• 24:27
Speaker 10: into one or two, where you got four or five,
• 24:30
Speaker 10: six different types of sports in one big venue, I
• 24:32
Speaker 10: think is going to be huge.
• 24:33
Speaker 3: Talking to Jeremy Young again, who is the new county
• 24:37
Speaker 3: manager here in kanaw Canton. One of the things about
• 24:39
Speaker 3: Kanawah County that I think sometimes, you know, West Virginia
• 24:42
Speaker 3: as a whole is a is a smaller sized state,
• 24:46
Speaker 3: you know, compared to other states. And Kanawah County, though,
• 24:48
Speaker 3: is the largest county in the state. And the diversity
• 24:51
Speaker 3: of Kanawah County and what I mean by that, And
• 24:53
Speaker 3: I talk with the commissioners all the time about this
• 24:55
Speaker 3: what necessarily it seems like sometimes they can there's there's
• 24:59
Speaker 3: so much of a disc between let's say, the Upper
• 25:01
Speaker 3: Canal Valley into into Saint Albans into downtown Charleston. And
• 25:04
Speaker 3: as a county manager and the county commissioners as well,
• 25:07
Speaker 3: and for that matter, all of county government, you've got
• 25:09
Speaker 3: to kind of got to bring all these people in.
• 25:12
Speaker 3: You got to dip your toe in the water of
• 25:13
Speaker 3: everything going on in every individual area.
• 25:16
Speaker 10: Yeah, Yeah, that's that's a challenge for sure. And you know,
• 25:19
Speaker 10: we kind of had that in Putnam County. You know,
• 25:21
Speaker 10: people people would like to say, oh, the north side
• 25:23
Speaker 10: of the River and south southern different, two different regions.
• 25:27
Speaker 10: So it's no different here, you know. And and I
• 25:30
Speaker 10: think the commissioners, from what I understand, do a really
• 25:33
Speaker 10: good job of including everybody. You know. I think the
• 25:37
Speaker 10: for example, the Coonskin Park event was very well attended.
• 25:42
Speaker 10: I think Commissioner Wheeler attended that. But from what the
• 25:45
Speaker 10: feedback that I got was the Christmas event, Yes, a
• 25:47
Speaker 10: Christmas event, I believe that was Tuesday night, and you know,
• 25:50
Speaker 10: I think that was something for not just here in Charleston,
• 25:53
Speaker 10: but but folks on the east end of the county
• 25:55
Speaker 10: that that's probably more accessible to two events up at Coonskin.
• 25:58
Speaker 10: So I know that they're there's food pantries on the
• 26:02
Speaker 10: east end that the commissioners are are wanting to help. So,
• 26:07
Speaker 10: you know, just being inclusive of everyone in the in
• 26:09
Speaker 10: the county. And I know that's a hard challenge being
• 26:12
Speaker 10: so diverse, but I do know that the commissioners have
• 26:15
Speaker 10: every resident at their best interest here.
• 26:18
Speaker 3: Well, Jeremy, we certainly wish you the best of luck
• 26:21
Speaker 3: with the job. As we said, you get some pretty
• 26:22
Speaker 3: big shoes to fill with With Jennifer Oakli, she did
• 26:24
Speaker 3: a fantastic job and you did a great I know
• 26:27
Speaker 3: of your work in Putnam County where I live, and
• 26:28
Speaker 3: so I know you'll do a great job here in
• 26:30
Speaker 3: Kanawa County. Appreciate you being here. You're always welcome on

• 30:37
Speaker 3: going to be the big night with the Christmas Parade
• 30:39
Speaker 3: and so on and so forth, and unfortunately Mother Nature
• 30:42
Speaker 3: got involved just a little bit. Matt Sutton is the
• 30:44
Speaker 3: chief of staff for Mayor Amy Goodwin. Good morning, welcome
• 30:47
  Speaker 3: to the show.
• 30:47
Speaker 4: Good morning, how are you doing today?
• 30:49
Speaker 3: I'm doing fine. So you know, the calendar may say, Matt,
• 30:54
Speaker 3: that it's technically still fall it is, but the meteorological
• 30:58
Speaker 3: folks will tell you that it's geological winter. And if
• 31:02
Speaker 3: you stepped outside this morning and throughout the day to day,
• 31:05
Speaker 3: you are going to feel that. And I guess some
• 31:07
Speaker 3: people are happy about it. I'll talk to Joe Stevens
• 31:09
Speaker 3: from the Ski Association. I mean, he's took go to
• 31:11
Speaker 3: death about it, but for others it could create some issues.
• 31:14
Speaker 3: And the decision was made yesterday I guess what two
• 31:17
Speaker 3: two thirty or so, when we first got the word
• 31:19
Speaker 3: that the Christmas Parade in Charleston would be postponed. Talk
• 31:22
  Speaker 3: about that.
• 31:23
Speaker 12: Decision, yes, I mean, you know, as you know, Dave,
• 31:25
Speaker 12: because you help us promote a lot of them. As
• 31:27
Speaker 12: we do a lot of events in the city of Charleston,
• 31:29
Speaker 12: right we have a lot of things from big to small.
• 31:32
Speaker 12: And when people come to the mayor with ideas that
• 31:34
Speaker 12: the answer is typically yes, with the caveat if we
• 31:37
Speaker 12: can do it safely, and that always becomes the number
• 31:40
Speaker 12: one priority is that can we do it safely? And
• 31:43
Speaker 12: as we've began to track the weather and we began
• 31:46
Speaker 12: to talk to various individuals, including our Homeland Security Director,
• 31:50
Speaker 12: Chad Jones, our events coordinator and parade coordinator, and Miranda
• 31:55
Speaker 12: Dylan and others, it became clear that we weren't going
• 31:58
Speaker 12: to be able to do this safely tonight, and the
• 32:00
Speaker 12: decision was made to postpone the parade till December seventeenth
• 32:03
Speaker 12: at seven pm, same setup, same line up, everything will
• 32:07
Speaker 12: happen exactly the same one the seventeenth, but it just
• 32:10
Speaker 12: wasn't going to be safe. And I think that the
• 32:12
Speaker 12: final decision was made after some conversations with local school
• 32:17
Speaker 12: bands Capital High GW.
• 32:18
Speaker 4: John Adams, and they did not feel comfortable.
• 32:21
Speaker 12: With their with their kids participating, and we completely understood
• 32:24
Speaker 12: that and we weren't going to put anybody, especially our youth,
• 32:27
Speaker 12: in any potential danger tonight. And then and then just
• 32:29
Speaker 12: the logistics of wind, right, I mean, when wind happens,
• 32:32
Speaker 12: it's hard for floats, it's hard for.
• 32:34
Speaker 3: Some people to see the Capitol Christmas tree.
• 32:36
  Speaker 4: That's right, Yeah, that's right.
• 32:37
Speaker 12: So you know, we a couple of years ago, Holly
• 32:40
Speaker 12: Jolly Bradley, we we dealt with a lot of wind
• 32:42
Speaker 12: issues with our Christmas trees. And thankfully we have an
• 32:44
Speaker 12: amazing public grounds crew that built these. If you go
• 32:47
Speaker 12: look at the boxes that are under the trees for
• 32:49
Speaker 12: Holly Jolly Bradley, those are very stylish, but they're also
• 32:52
Speaker 12: are practical. They were built with the purpose of not
• 32:54
Speaker 12: letting the trees turn over, and we only had a
• 32:56
Speaker 12: couple that bent over last night. So a lot goes
• 33:00
Speaker 12: into that and you learn a lot. But with wind
• 33:02
Speaker 12: and then the wind shield tonight, it just wasn't worth it.
• 33:05
Speaker 3: It's never easy to make a decision like that because
• 33:08
Speaker 3: no matter what you do, Matt, somebody ain't going to
• 33:11
  Speaker 3: be happy.
• 33:11
  Speaker 4: Sure's I mean, that's with anything.
• 33:13
Speaker 12: But at the end of the day, safety comes first,
• 33:16
Speaker 12: the safety of our citizens, the safety of our staff
• 33:19
Speaker 12: and everybody who was going to participate.
• 33:21
Speaker 4: It's not worth it.
• 33:22
Speaker 12: Yes, there will always be negative comments, there will always
• 33:24
Speaker 12: be things on social media, but we're all very content
• 33:28
Speaker 12: with the decision and it really wasn't that difficult decision
• 33:30
Speaker 12: at the end of the day, because one is is
• 33:33
Speaker 12: we want as many people to participate as possible. So
• 33:35
Speaker 12: if people were going to start to not participate, then
• 33:37
Speaker 12: that makes the parade less than what it should be.
• 33:39
Speaker 12: People weren't going to be able to come out with
• 33:40
Speaker 12: their kids. You know, we have a lot of staff
• 33:42
Speaker 12: members that have very young kids and just asking them,
• 33:44
Speaker 12: are you willing to bring your kids out? And when
• 33:45
Speaker 12: they start saying no, then that's very clear to us
• 33:48
Speaker 12: that not only is it not safe, but we're actually
• 33:50
Speaker 12: going to have a not as good a parade as
• 33:52
Speaker 12: we want to have. So we want to put on
• 33:54
Speaker 12: the best show as we possibly can. That goes into
• 33:56
Speaker 12: it as well, but you know it's easy to sit
• 33:59
Speaker 12: online and say, oh, I'd stand out there. Yeah, but
• 34:02
Speaker 12: you might not have a four year old that wants
• 34:04
Speaker 12: to see the parade.
• 34:05
  Speaker 4: And so we're a.
• 34:06
Speaker 3: Seventy four year old older folks that don't want to
• 34:09
  Speaker 3: be out there.
• 34:10
Speaker 12: Very true, and you know, we have a lot of
• 34:11
Speaker 12: good streaming servant people who are streaming it. But at
• 34:13
Speaker 12: the end of the day, safety comes first in all
• 34:16
Speaker 12: of our events, in everything we do, and that's why
• 34:18
Speaker 12: you know, we we institute in these large events. We
• 34:20
Speaker 12: have a lot of planning means we also have safety
• 34:22
Speaker 12: meetings in all of them. So and part of that
• 34:25
Speaker 12: is weather and that's why we have you know, we
• 34:27
Speaker 12: have the people we do and we're fortunate to be
• 34:30
Speaker 12: able to pick up the phone and call our good
• 34:31
Speaker 12: friend Brian Hughes and ask him what is going to
• 34:33
Speaker 12: look like and what it's going to be and he
• 34:35
Speaker 12: takes the time to help us out and the right
• 34:38
  Speaker 12: decision was made.
• 34:39
  Speaker 4: I mean, it's never easy.
• 34:40
Speaker 12: The mayor doesn't like to have to make these decisions,
• 34:43
Speaker 12: but it is an easy decision when the safety of
• 34:46
Speaker 12: our residents and our visitors or is it's say that's
• 34:48
  Speaker 12: that's easy.
• 34:48
  Speaker 4: That's a no brainer.
• 34:49
Speaker 3: And if you want to have some fun with Brian Hughes,
• 34:51
Speaker 3: talk to him about blizzards.
• 34:54
Speaker 12: That's also severe weather storms. I'll leave that alonecause I
• 34:58
Speaker 12: don't want to. I don't want to conjure up anything.
• 35:00
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 35:00
Speaker 3: Well, no, The thing about Brian is Brian I've been
• 35:02
Speaker 3: great friends, you know, for a number of years. But
• 35:05
Speaker 3: Brian gets you know, sometimes people want people want to
• 35:08
Speaker 3: argue online with meteorologists, and I've never quite understood how
• 35:12
Speaker 3: someone on social media. I'm not a meteorologist. I'm going
• 35:16
Speaker 3: to leave that up to those guys and why I'm
• 35:17
Speaker 3: going to argue. But there was there was an incident
• 35:20
Speaker 3: where Brian got into a little back and forth with
• 35:23
Speaker 3: somebody in social media about a blizzard. And you know,
• 35:26
Speaker 3: a blizzard is not necessarily just snow. You can have
• 35:30
Speaker 3: twenty inches of snow and it's not a blizzard. You
• 35:32
Speaker 3: need to look up with the depth. And I like
• 35:33
Speaker 3: to give Brian a hard time about it. I was
• 35:35
Speaker 3: texting with him when he was on the other this morning.
• 35:37
Speaker 3: So now the bride has been moved and it is
• 35:40
Speaker 3: the night of the WVU Bowl game, And it was
• 35:43
Speaker 3: kind of funny the way this whole thing happened yesterday
• 35:45
Speaker 3: because your announcement. I was in the office here, came
• 35:47
Speaker 3: down about two thirty or so, and then I was
• 35:50
Speaker 3: sitting in I was helping out coop a little bit
• 35:52
Speaker 3: with hotline yesterday and Aaron Parker from her news team
• 35:55
Speaker 3: comes running down here and says, we know the WVU
• 35:57
Speaker 3: Bowl and it just happened to be on the same
• 35:59
Speaker 3: time on the same night. But I will say this,
• 36:03
Speaker 3: wvu's Bowl game doesn't start till nine o'clock, plenty of time,
• 36:06
Speaker 3: and you should for those that want to watch the
• 36:08
Speaker 3: WVU Bowl game there, you should be on at least
• 36:12
Speaker 3: on your way home by that point. And we're going
• 36:14
Speaker 3: to have it on the radio, so you know, and
• 36:15
Speaker 3: we're also going to broadcast the parade on the radio.
• 36:18
Speaker 3: We're playing on do that. Chris Lawrence and Bobby Spry
• 36:21
Speaker 3: will be doing that. So we're just transitioning everything to
• 36:23
Speaker 3: December seventeenth. But if you're concerned about, you know, that
• 36:26
Speaker 3: bowl game, you should be time home in time to
• 36:29
Speaker 3: see the Mountaineers of Memphis and the and the Scooter
• 36:32
Speaker 3: Coffee Ball in Frisco, Texas.
• 36:33
Speaker 12: Yes, it was, I mean, there were you know when
• 36:35
Speaker 12: we started to look like you look in the early
• 36:37
Speaker 12: part of next week and the weather doesn't look great.
• 36:38
Speaker 12: It looks warmer, but it looks like it's going to rain.
• 36:40
Speaker 12: And then you know, okay, we'll push it into the
• 36:42
Speaker 12: back part of the week. Well, we got to stay
• 36:43
Speaker 12: high school football championships coming up, so we can't you know, can't,
• 36:46
Speaker 12: can't step on top of that. And so then the
• 36:49
Speaker 12: early part of the following week week look good and
• 36:52
Speaker 12: you know, as with anything you could, you couldn't predict it.
• 36:55
Speaker 12: Sometimes we say, you know, you can't make this stuff up.
• 36:57
Speaker 12: Like as soon as we announced that, you're right, and
• 36:59
Speaker 12: then I look on Metro News and there's the there's
• 37:01
  Speaker 12: the bold date.
• 37:01
Speaker 4: But now I think the timing does work out.
• 37:03
Speaker 12: Well, get your get your holiday joy and come out
• 37:05
Speaker 12: and see Sannah and all the other parades. And the
• 37:08
Speaker 12: other thing we do is is we really, we really desperately,
• 37:11
Speaker 12: UH want our local kids and the bands and the
• 37:13
Speaker 12: art groups to be able to perform. So we had
• 37:15
Speaker 12: to work with you know, Capitol I and George Washington
• 37:18
Speaker 12: High to to make sure that they didn't have performing
• 37:20
Speaker 12: arts or something going on that day. And that's what
• 37:22
Speaker 12: ended up a lot of the date ended up being
• 37:24
Speaker 12: with them as well, because a big part of our
• 37:26
Speaker 12: parade is our is our local our local students being
• 37:29
Speaker 12: able to participate, and that's that was a big part
• 37:31
Speaker 12: of the schedule as well. Somebody would have called us
• 37:34
Speaker 12: from WU, we might have taken a different look, but
• 37:35
Speaker 12: the timing worked out.
• 37:36
Speaker 4: The time he worked out really well.

• 37:51
Speaker 3: so you mentioned football. We all know what happened in
• 37:54
Speaker 3: the court system with us going back and forth, you know,
• 37:56
Speaker 3: starting with volleyball, with football and whatever the football championship.
• 38:00
Speaker 3: We just moved everything ahead a week, right, and we're
• 38:03
  Speaker 3: good to go.
• 38:03
  Speaker 4: Everything's s got for now.
• 38:05
Speaker 3: Super eight, I guess call it super eight. I don't
• 38:08
Speaker 3: think no Elite eight is out. Eight is enough. I
• 38:11
  Speaker 3: don't know why I do.
• 38:12
Speaker 12: It's just the state high school FOOTBA champions right, That's
• 38:14
Speaker 12: what That's what we'll call it. That's another thing that
• 38:16
Speaker 12: was always always interested. We talked about, you know, folks
• 38:20
Speaker 12: being unhappy that somehow when the when it moved to Charleston,
• 38:24
Speaker 12: that that lawsuit started, and obviously that didn't have anything
• 38:28
Speaker 12: to do with us, But yeah, I know, we're super
• 38:29
Speaker 12: excited for that, and I Tim Brady and his entire team,
• 38:32
Speaker 12: I know the Mayor is going to be there for
• 38:34
Speaker 12: for several of the games and.
• 38:35
Speaker 4: It's really gonna be exciting.
• 38:36
Speaker 12: Not only that, but we have cheerleading championships coming in
• 38:38
Speaker 12: that same weekend, and it's going to be a tremendous
• 38:41
Speaker 12: weekend in the city of Charleston, and we're very excited.
• 38:43
Speaker 12: High school sports is is one of, if not our
• 38:46
Speaker 12: top economic driver. When we think about the events we
• 38:48
Speaker 12: have around the state high school basketball tournament's volleyball, now,
• 38:52
Speaker 12: we have cheerleading, now we.
• 38:53
Speaker 4: Have football, We've got track.
• 38:55
Speaker 12: So so these are are huge economic drivers, but they're
• 38:57
Speaker 12: also extremely great opportunities for our youth and our state,
• 39:00
Speaker 12: and we're real excited about it. And I know that Tim
• 39:03
Speaker 12: worked with Andy Shay over at the ballpark and hopefully
• 39:06
Speaker 12: some kids from the football will get to go over
• 39:08
Speaker 12: and see the light to night and have some fun
• 39:09
Speaker 12: over there as well, so it we're excited about it.
• 39:12
Speaker 4: And yeah, the games will go on and made the
• 39:16
Speaker 4: best teams win all right.
• 39:17
Speaker 3: Before we let you go. Tuesday night, the city had
• 39:20
Speaker 3: what was I guess the last and a series of
• 39:22
Speaker 3: public meetings about the proposed Capital Connector project. How was
• 39:25
Speaker 3: that and what's your takeaway?
• 39:26
Speaker 12: I have these three We've had three public meetings with
• 39:29
Speaker 12: the Capitol Connector. And in my career, even before I
• 39:32
Speaker 12: went to government, I did a lot of community outreach
• 39:34
Speaker 12: and public meetings and things like that. I've never seen
• 39:36
Speaker 12: as good a participation as we've had. And with this
• 39:38
Speaker 12: Capital Connector meetings, we probably had fifty or sixty people there.
• 39:41
Speaker 12: I think overall we've had over seven hundred comments. I
• 39:44
Speaker 12: know James Jost with gi who's running this, has challenged
• 39:48
Speaker 12: everybody to get us to a thousand, and it's been
• 39:51
Speaker 12: a great experience, and I think people are really dedicated,
• 39:54
Speaker 12: they really want to see what's best for the boulevard,
• 39:56
Speaker 12: and we've gotten a lot of great ideas. And I
• 39:58
Speaker 12: think one thing that, especially if you talk to folks
• 40:01
Speaker 12: who were there and the residents who are participated, you
• 40:04
Speaker 12: know a lot of times you go to these meetings
• 40:05
Speaker 12: and people say, well, what do you want to see,
• 40:06
Speaker 12: and then nobody listens to them. Well, we've listened, and
• 40:09
Speaker 12: we've incorporated a lot of different things, including benches and
• 40:12
Speaker 12: restroom stops, and where we're and where we're putting things,
• 40:15
Speaker 12: and how we're designing the parks. We've really listened a
• 40:17
Speaker 12: lot of the If you look from the thirty percent
• 40:19
Speaker 12: designed and the sixty percent, a lot of the changes
• 40:21
  Speaker 12: have been because.
• 40:21
  Speaker 4: Of community feedback.
• 40:22
Speaker 12: So you haven't still until right after the first of
• 40:25
Speaker 12: the year January third.
• 40:26
Speaker 4: You can go online.
• 40:27
Speaker 12: You can you can find the link of the City
• 40:29
Speaker 12: of Charles's website, you can find on Gai's website. There's
• 40:31
Speaker 12: a Capital Connector website as well. If you just search
• 40:34
Speaker 12: Capital Connector Charleston, West Virginia, you'll find that. And you
• 40:36
Speaker 12: could still provide your feedback up until January third, and
• 40:39
Speaker 12: please do because we can't think of everything. Because what
• 40:42
Speaker 12: we want more than anything is the users of the
• 40:44
Speaker 12: space to tell us what they want in the space.
• 40:46
Speaker 3: And this is pretty much going to connect the west
• 40:48
Speaker 3: side to the east side.
• 40:49
Speaker 12: Yes, I mean, you know, if you think about what
• 40:51
Speaker 12: happened on the West side over you know the Mayor
• 40:54
Speaker 12: Jones and the administration did before they left taking it
• 40:58
Speaker 12: up to Magic Island. We're going to pick up where
• 41:00
Speaker 12: they left off at Magic Island and go all the
• 41:02
Speaker 12: way down to the thirty fifth Street Bridge. And it
• 41:04
Speaker 12: is one of, if not the This is the probably
• 41:08
Speaker 12: the most successful project I've ever worked on, because it's
• 41:12
Speaker 12: city government, state government, and federal government all working together
• 41:15
Speaker 12: because it's city roads, it's state roads, and it's funded
• 41:17
Speaker 12: by the Feds. And we also have the county involved
• 41:19
Speaker 12: because they're right there and we have to deal with
• 41:22
Speaker 12: some of their traffic and courthouse issues as well. So
• 41:25
Speaker 12: all these folks are working together for this one tremendous project.
• 41:28
Speaker 12: But we're going to go all the way from Magic
• 41:30
Speaker 12: Island thirty fifth Street Bridge. You'll see a little cut
• 41:33
Speaker 12: off on Greenbrier Street to create a much nicer entrance
• 41:36
Speaker 12: way into our city and into the capital. But it's
• 41:39
Speaker 12: very exciting, so please please go check it out. You
• 41:41
Speaker 12: can again, you can find a Lincoln on the City
• 41:43
Speaker 12: of Charleston's website. It is a very, very excited project.
• 41:47
Speaker 12: And I would be remiss to say that, you know,
• 41:49
Speaker 12: the mayor had this vision when we first started that
• 41:52
Speaker 12: she wanted to make us some more or use our
• 41:53
Speaker 12: riverfront more, and we've done the Regatta, we've done other events,
• 41:56
Speaker 12: but we've not had anything that was sort of full time.
• 41:59
Speaker 4: This is what we're going to be able to do and.
• 42:01
Speaker 12: Really set a vision to this, but we couldn't have
• 42:03
Speaker 12: done it without both Senator Joe Mansion and Senator Shelley
• 42:06
Speaker 12: Moore Capital. They saw the vision the mayor had and
• 42:09
Speaker 12: the members of the community had, and they helped us
• 42:11
Speaker 12: find the funding for it. And truly will be appreciative
• 42:14
Speaker 12: of them forever because you know when you're walking on
• 42:16
Speaker 12: that in a couple of years, it's going to be
• 42:19
Speaker 12: because they believed in what is sort of the next
• 42:21
Speaker 12: phase of the city at Charleston, which is being much
• 42:24
Speaker 12: more utilized in our riverfront and being a very community friendly,
• 42:29
Speaker 12: high quality of life, and a great destination for people
• 42:31
  Speaker 12: to visit.
• 42:32
Speaker 3: Matt Sutton, the chief of Staffordmery good one. I appreciate
• 42:34

Speaker 3: even though the calendar says it's not one guy who's
• 45:59
Speaker 3: always excited about it. As Joe Stevens for the West
• 46:02
Speaker 3: Virginia Ski Areas Association, Joseph, good morning, welcome to the show.
• 46:07
Speaker 13: Good morning, But December first, as I understand from your
• 46:10
Speaker 13: good friend Brian Hughes, who the meteorological would start exactly
• 46:15
  Speaker 13: December first.
• 46:16
Speaker 3: Exactly right and over there and over in that part
• 46:19
Speaker 3: of the world. It is certainly a bunch of winners
• 46:22
Speaker 3: rolled up into one, Joe.
• 46:24
Speaker 13: It is today, for sure, but about it less than
• 46:27
Speaker 13: an hour ago at nine o'clock both Canaye Valley. I
• 46:31
Speaker 13: no excuse me, but Timberline and Snowshoe they opened up
• 46:35
Speaker 13: for the season. As the saying goes, the ropes dropped,
• 46:39
Speaker 13: and there's actually people out there. If you go into
• 46:41
Speaker 13: the webcams right now, you will see people skiing and
• 46:44
Speaker 13: snowboarding out there at the top of Snowshoe and the
• 46:49
Speaker 13: top of Timberline. So it's a good time. We're basically
• 46:53
Speaker 13: on schedule for opening this season, and boy do we
• 46:56
Speaker 13: have an opening with all the natural snow that we've
• 46:58
Speaker 13: gotten in the mountains, all the temperatures we got for snowmaking.
• 47:03
Speaker 13: It's a really good opening. And we're opening with quality
• 47:06
Speaker 13: and quantity instead of just opening to say we're open.
• 47:10
Speaker 13: There's a big base and there's plenty of terrain open.
• 47:14
Speaker 3: Nothing beats Mother Nature lenning to help at hand, right Joe.
• 47:18
Speaker 13: Oh, Mother Nature. We filled up her tip jar extensively
• 47:25
Speaker 13: in the last few days, without a doubt. The wind
• 47:28
Speaker 13: chill's out there right now. I mean, my goodness, I'm
• 47:30
Speaker 13: in my office in Nitro right now, and the wind
• 47:33
Speaker 13: chill out there. So if you are going to go
• 47:35
Speaker 13: out there and play, dress accordingly. Got some good news yesterday. Also,
• 47:40
Speaker 13: we've got another ski resort opening up in Ohio County, Ogilby.
• 47:45
Speaker 13: They have a little some trails, they do some nighte
• 47:48
Speaker 13: skiing right there, and they will be opening tomorrow, coming
• 47:51
Speaker 13: up on the fourteenth will be winter Place just ninety
• 47:54
Speaker 13: minutes away from us here in Charleston, and then on
• 47:57
Speaker 13: the twenty first, Canaine Valley, which is right side by
• 48:00
Speaker 13: side with Timberline, they will be opening for the season.
• 48:03
Speaker 13: So it's all on the way. We're having a good
• 48:05
Speaker 13: time and we're letting gravity be our friend.
• 48:07
  Speaker 4: All right.
• 48:08
Speaker 3: Before we let you go, I dud need to Askabpabs, can
• 48:10
Speaker 3: you put your other hat on here for a moment?
• 48:12
Speaker 3: With your role with the city of Nitro, I was
• 48:14
Speaker 3: talking with the folks from South Charleston earlier. The Charleston
• 48:17
Speaker 3: Christmas Parade, of course was postponed with the others the Dunbar, Nitro,
• 48:21
Speaker 3: Saint Albans, and they're all still going on as scheduled
• 48:24
Speaker 3: this weekend. And I know Nitro's got a lot of
• 48:26
Speaker 3: big stuff going on. I'll give you a little time
• 48:28
Speaker 3: to talk about it.
• 48:29
Speaker 13: Well, you know, all kid, decide if you want to
• 48:32
Speaker 13: see Santa this weekend, the Canal Valley Metro area is
• 48:37
Speaker 13: the place to be because, like you said on Friday night,
• 48:40
Speaker 13: is Dunbars Christmas Parade Saturday at twelve o'clocks South Charleston
• 48:45
Speaker 13: and three o'clock Saint Albans at six o'clock will be
• 48:49
Speaker 13: our parade, the Nitro Parade, and then also in Clindenna
• 48:53
Speaker 13: on Saturday night at six o'clock they'll be having a
• 48:56
Speaker 13: Christmas parade, but the Nitro Parade will kick off at
• 48:59
Speaker 13: six o'clock. We've got about one hundred and fifty exhibits
• 49:03
Speaker 13: our entrance into the parade and it's all about It's
• 49:07
Speaker 13: all about kids, candy and Santa Claus and we will
• 49:11
Speaker 13: have plenty of that. It will start at Pickens Road
• 49:13
Speaker 13: right dere A McDonald's on Route twenty five First Avenue
• 49:16
Speaker 13: and it'll go straight on First Avenue all the way
• 49:19
Speaker 13: down to nineteen Street. So get their early, dress warm
• 49:23
Speaker 13: and have a good time. Santa's coming to town, all.
• 49:26
Speaker 3: Right, Joe. Always a pleasure to have you on the show.
• 49:28
Speaker 3: We'll talk again soon, my friend. Thanks a lot.
• 49:31
  Speaker 13: Let's go Cowboys.
• 49:32
Speaker 3: Yeah, good luck with that. Thanks a lot, buddy. It

Speaker 3: Porter Wagner from the Pick of the Litter Animal Rescue
• 50:08
Speaker 3: Group will be on the show tomorrow, as will our
• 50:10
Speaker 3: good friend TJ. Meadows. That is all coming up on
• 50:12
Speaker 3: tomorrow's show. Got a couple of texts to get to
• 50:14
Speaker 3: Texas Dave. The Capitol folks knew there were high winds expected.
• 50:19
Speaker 3: If they had invested a few dollars into proper tie
• 50:22
Speaker 3: down straps instead of thousands of dollars on loud fireworks,
• 50:25
Speaker 3: maybe we'd still have a tree standing scared every dog
• 50:29
Speaker 3: on the East End. And speaking of safety, not smart
• 50:32
Speaker 3: to launch fireworks in high winds. Here's your sign, says
• 50:36
Speaker 3: a Texter. I think the fireworks last night at a
• 50:39
Speaker 3: joyful night kind of caught some people by surprise, including
• 50:42
Speaker 3: Governor Justice. If you heard the audio that we played
• 50:45
Speaker 3: on the morning news this morning, I don't know that
• 50:47
Speaker 3: he was expecting the fireworks. But again in case you're
• 50:49
Speaker 3: joining us late, and we got a picture posted a
• 50:51
Speaker 3: to WV metronews dot com and all of our social
• 50:54
Speaker 3: media sites as well, including my own Dave Island Radio
• 50:57
Speaker 3: and at Dave A seventy on X. Yeah, the Capital
• 51:00
Speaker 3: Christmas tree. They put it up and it fell back
• 51:02
Speaker 3: down a few hours later. But I'm sure, as I said,
• 51:05
  Speaker 3: I don't have a webcam on it. I'm sure they're
• 51:07
Speaker 3: working on it now. They'll have it back up if
• 51:09
Speaker 3: they don't already have it back up. But the fireworks
• 51:11
Speaker 3: last night did take a few people by surprise. From
• 51:15
Speaker 3: what I understand, Texas Dave Judicial Building should not be built. First.
• 51:20
Speaker 3: Majority of taxpayers don't want this new court and it's
• 51:22
Speaker 3: going to cost nine to ten million dollars to run.
• 51:25
Speaker 3: Put them in a vacant building downtown. Government keeps growing
• 51:28
Speaker 3: under this legislature. I don't know how much this legislature
• 51:31
Speaker 3: had to do with this. Maybe they did, I don't know,
• 51:33
Speaker 3: but I mean the building is crowded, the Building's the
• 51:35
Speaker 3: buildings outdated? I mean, that's kind of my take on.
• 51:38
Speaker 3: Tex says, I thought Republicans into the war on Christmas,
• 51:41
Speaker 3: Why then are they incapable of protecting a Christmas tree
• 51:45
Speaker 3: from the wind. This is Jesus telling the phony Christian
• 51:48
Speaker 3: Republicans that they are hypocrites and do not follow God's teachings.
• 51:51
Speaker 3: Repent or, better yet, pray for salvation from the One
• 51:55
Speaker 3: True God. Spaghetti Monster says a textrier. If you're listening,
• 51:59
Speaker 3: folks and heaven, I just read the texts. That's all
• 52:02
Speaker 3: I did, all right. Thanks to all our guests on
• 52:05
Speaker 3: the show today, the key Vaon from the South Charleston

Speaker 3: the chief of Staffer Mayor good one Matt Sutton for
• 52:21
Speaker 3: being here on the show today as well. Oh by
• 52:24
Speaker 3: the way, Tex says, tree is still down, no one
• 52:26
Speaker 3: working on it, just drove by. Okay, there we go,
• 52:28
Speaker 3: all right. Matt Murphy is my producer. Thank you so much, Hope, Kirch.
