- 0:56Thank you. Now here are the hosts of the
- 1:00United We Scan podcast. Welcome back everybody.
- 1:07Episode 39 Post Mini Mail Survey.
- 1:13What a week it's been. I'm going to start off instead
- 1:16of going through the guys 1st. And what a week it's been.
- 1:21So last Saturday our Amazon showed up after cutoff time.
- 1:26All right. So we agreed on Monday we
- 1:29normally go in for two hours and case up flats.
- 1:32And I had brought it up to management saying hey, we're
- 1:35still in the mini mail survey, these have to be counted so we
- 1:38can't case them. And supervisor said oh, but you
- 1:42can deliver the Amazon that came in late today.
- 1:45Okay, not a problem. Grant you're not.
- 1:49I have two newbies with me who have never just ran out and done
- 1:52packages. I was loaded in the truck before
- 1:56they walked in the door. And then they are marking the
- 1:59parcels, writing on the parcel markers, and marking the parcels
- 2:05before they loaded them. So now you got an hour before
- 2:07they get out the door. We have one hour left.
- 2:11I took some that were rather far out, so I got back about 11:45
- 2:16and we were supposed to be backing off the clock by 11:30.
- 2:20That's put that way. No, you're there.
- 2:22The other two are insight. I asked the clerk that was
- 2:24there. I said did supervisor you give
- 2:27you time? On what time these guys are
- 2:29supposed to be back. She's like, no, but I need to be
- 2:32off the clock by 12:30. I sent them a message, text
- 2:36message said hey guys, you need to wrap it up, head back, and
- 2:39everybody needs to be off the clock by 12:30.
- 2:43I get a text message from the one sub that says Oh well, I
- 2:47should be done by two. No, you need to be back in off
- 2:55the clock because the clerk needs to be off the clock and
- 2:58the building locked up by 12:30 at the latest.
- 3:02Okay Monday Tuesday morning rolls in and we can't even get
- 3:07in the parking lot because we have one Amazon truck delivery
- 3:10while the other one is blocking our drive waiting for the dock
- 3:13to be free. So we all yell at him.
- 3:17And we get in and course we got our behinds handed to us.
- 3:21Of course it was heavy on all accounts.
- 3:25I am on Route 4 and Route 3, the one that the carrier just
- 3:32retired on last week. Sub is on there.
- 3:35He's griping and complaining and up one one way and down another
- 3:39and all this other stuff. I happen to be the veterans,
- 3:43smart ass RCA that I am. That says, well, it's all
- 3:46downhill from here. No, excuse me, I said.
- 3:48Well, it doesn't get any, you know, better from here on out
- 3:52till after Christmas. Yeah, I guess I probably
- 3:55shouldn't have said that. I'm getting ready to put my.
- 4:00I'm putting my, my smalls in order and I I don't see him at
- 4:04the case. I'm like, oh, maybe he's out
- 4:06loading because I didn't see the hamper there and I'm getting
- 4:10ready to go load. It's probably been good 1520
- 4:12minutes or 1/2 hour. And I go walk past route three's
- 4:16case and his badge, arrow key and scanner are sitting on the
- 4:20desk. I went, oh shit, I walked
- 4:26outside and his car was gone. Walked back in straight to the
- 4:31supervisor's desk and said Yep, he walked.
- 4:34She's like what I said, Yeah. Told her what I found.
- 4:39She's like, you're kidding. I went back outside again,
- 4:42looked in the LLVLLV keys were in the ignition of the LLV.
- 4:47Pulled those out, came back. They tried to call the carrier
- 4:51in the for the route I was covering.
- 4:54She couldn't come in, so the postmaster and it borrowed.
- 4:57RCA split Route 3 on Tuesday. And I've been running Route 3
- 5:05ever since and will until it goes up, forbid and I'm awarded
- 5:08it. So I am now six days a week on
- 5:10A45K indefinitely. That's been my week.
- 5:18Yeah, that was your week or Josh, huh?
- 5:21I said. So what you said what you're
- 5:23saying is you scared them off. I don't think we won them all.
- 5:29No, I don't think I scared him off.
- 5:31He's been. We've been waiting for him to
- 5:34go. He's just.
- 5:38Well, you know it doesn't haven't.
- 5:41Doesn't have a good time to do it.
- 5:44Well, the last one quit on a heavy day too.
- 5:46Walked off. So it's just they can't handle
- 5:51the heavy days I'm guessing. I mean, having done it for so
- 5:55many years, I take it with a green of salt anymore, but Yep.
- 5:59He still left a good stack of flats and raw mail that still
- 6:05needed to be cased postmasters and they're trying to case it
- 6:11and then I'm out loading the road I'm on and the borrowed sub
- 6:15walks up. But I looked at him and I said,
- 6:17boy, you're a sight for sore eyes.
- 6:19And I told him what happened and I said so I imagine you're going
- 6:24to be working a lot more in just a couple hours on that ox are
- 6:26out today. Yep, they got back after 8:00,
- 6:30both him and the postmaster. I mean, I got back at 6:45.
- 6:36I put in a 12 and 1/4 hour day myself.
- 6:39But yeah, it was well after 8:00 when they got back.
- 6:46Ouch. And so that just yanked me off
- 6:48the schedule for covering all the other routes and on
- 6:52Saturdays as it is right now, I still had to take my OX route
- 6:55yesterday. You'll probably do to be doing
- 6:59that all all the rest of the time.
- 7:02Well, we are going to, we've got the borrowed sub a few days to
- 7:06cover it and then our other newbie, he's going to try out
- 7:10the ox route coming up Thursday and then he had some things
- 7:15going on this week, so he wasn't available.
- 7:17And then the following week, we're actually going to train
- 7:19him on the 41 K route that we nicknamed Turn Around.
- 7:26Because that one will need coverage one Saturday.
- 7:28And I said being the only one in the office that knows all the
- 7:31routes, this really just screwed everybody.
- 7:35And because of it and being not a leave replacement available
- 7:40for that weekend of my fall booster, this will only be the
- 7:43second one I have missed in eight years.
- 7:49I'm not happy about it. It happens.
- 7:53It does. It does.
- 7:55And I'm going to say that because one of the other
- 7:58regulars already, even though it's his kday, he put in for it
- 8:02to make sure he had it off for a family event.
- 8:05So yeah, means I have nobody to run my route, and probably won't
- 8:11for a while, but I already am preparing to have my 120 day
- 8:16letter ready to turn in the day I officially take that route
- 8:19over as a regular, so. Yeah, that was my week in a
- 8:27nutshell, James. That was your week.
- 8:31Well, other than it being the normal count stuff, most of it
- 8:37was pretty much easy. They decided to change our start
- 8:41times from 7:45 to 8:00 again, like we were before.
- 8:45They changed the start times. They went from 8:00 to 8:30 and
- 8:50then they changed it back to 7:45 and now we're back to 8:00
- 8:54again. And so we'll be starting at 8:00
- 8:57starting well yesterday, but other than Friday was okay
- 9:05except I had two full broken bundles of presorted flats and
- 9:10they were the mixed mixed flats with the first class, 3rd class,
- 9:15all that stuff in it. And it had WSH Costco's in them
- 9:19too. So I got all of those added
- 9:22added in on my account sheet. Because it was a broken bundle
- 9:25and there was 2 broken bundles. Both bundles had at least 75
- 9:30pieces in them each, so I ended up with 202 random flats for
- 9:35that. I had water bills come in for
- 9:3995% of my route raw. Yeah, and inverts and stuff like
- 9:46that weren't too bad this week, which seems to be the trend
- 9:50across a lot of a lot of places, not everywhere.
- 9:53But a lot of places saw very minimal GPS errors compared to
- 9:57normal, which seems about right for the mini mail.
- 10:00Survey time didn't have too many issues in office, but you know
- 10:09it's good when you have an office that actually works as a
- 10:12cohesive team and has management that cares about you.
- 10:17But we'll get into that later on in our rabbit hole discussion
- 10:21that we normally get at the end of our thing.
- 10:23So I'm I'm giving, I'm dropping hints to our listeners to pay
- 10:27attention because the passions coming out today again, so.
- 10:32Josh. How was your?
- 10:34Yeah, your turn, Josh. How was your week?
- 10:37My week was not too horrible. During the survey, I had at
- 10:45least three days where at least one of my tree trays of GPS was
- 10:53completely screwed up, giving me 100 and something random letters
- 11:00out of just that tray. I should say some between 100
- 11:06and 200, depending on which of the three days it was.
- 11:10It wasn't too horrible this past week.
- 11:13I have an RCA that I've been training for my route.
- 11:19She went to Academy the first week of the survey so I had to
- 11:29do one day before she went to Academy and then she was back
- 11:32Tuesday morning. Helped me get it cased up.
- 11:37And then they pulled her to run parcels because I had so many
- 11:40routes there on the other side of the other zone.
- 11:43She goes to vehicle training or this Tuesday coming up, so I
- 11:49have Monday and Wednesday to get her up the bar so she can run
- 11:52the route on her own. And the supervisor said she will
- 11:56consider the two pay periods to start after vehicle training.
- 12:02So that'll be really nice. Hello, Bill, how was your week?
- 12:09Oh, it was wonderful. I outraged a little over 500
- 12:14pieces of WSH every day, duly recorded and noted.
- 12:19I could never walk out and leave my badge and scanner and keys on
- 12:23the on my case because I haven't had a badge in in nine years.
- 12:26So yeah, forced in again on Saturday against my will.
- 12:33And then the PTF who transferred into our office from another
- 12:37office who took annual on Friday, called out on Saturday
- 12:41and then didn't have to work today because he was moving, you
- 12:46know, right. Ended up they just took a brand
- 12:49new hire and put her on Amazon Sunday.
- 12:53Never been out on a route and put her on Amazon Sunday.
- 12:58She will last not very long. You.
- 13:01Can't make this shit, no. You cannot.
- 13:06We we have we have two people out on medical.
- 13:09One's been out for almost 3 months now, the other one's been
- 13:13out two weeks. But because of the two week time
- 13:17period, our superior management team who schedules us, forgets
- 13:23the fact that he's not coming in and put the new schedule up with
- 13:27him still on the schedule. So you know Saturday where we
- 13:34have a vacant route and the postmaster gave us our service
- 13:38talk and says you know, well who can help on the vacant route.
- 13:41So I stick my hand up. He says you.
- 13:43I said no, I'm working my drop day, I can't work any extra.
- 13:47And he says why not. I says in the contract he said
- 13:50I'll make a deal. I said I'll make a deals with
- 13:51you. Everybody started laughing and
- 13:55y'all and yeah he goes, I really hate you Bill.
- 13:57And I said I'm doing my job then.
- 14:00I mean, you know, come on, I I'm already helping you by being in
- 14:04on my day off, you know, and please don't ask me to do
- 14:09anymore because you know, I'm at that tipping point.
- 14:14Yep, I hear ya. We've got quite a bit going on
- 14:20for this show today. How'd you want to start off,
- 14:24James? You want me to start off with?
- 14:26Messages and emails or. Before we get into it, you know
- 14:30Bill, you said talking about them, them working you.
- 14:33Apparently the rural manager down there decided she doesn't
- 14:39going to have to deal with X days, so she'll pretty much, you
- 14:42know, anyone not in the list will not work.
- 14:47OK. And then I just heard in the
- 14:52last day or two, the supervisor. Or someone told me that the
- 14:57supervisors told them that when you work your relief day, you
- 15:03can't take a code free, you have to take the pie.
- 15:06So I will have to let my Rep know that so they can get that
- 15:10address. All right, so because this is
- 15:13the end of the mini Mail survey, a lot of people are wondering
- 15:18what happens next. So the few things I have.
- 15:24On here, the first one is about signing the sheet, confirming
- 15:29count numbers and selecting the high low option.
- 15:33So I figured that would be a good starting easy starting
- 15:36point. Not too political or passionate.
- 15:39I figured we could start there. What do you guys think?
- 15:43Go for it. Our chart not too It's painful.
- 15:51So. Now that the mini mail survey is
- 15:54over and you've done all the all the mail figures and management
- 15:58has punched everything in the computer, they're going to print
- 16:00out a sheet. And some people have already
- 16:02gotten it Saturday showing the count numbers for your random
- 16:07letters, random flats, so on and so forth.
- 16:10And they're going to want you to sign the sheet, verifying the
- 16:14numbers, and then they also want you to select high or low option
- 16:18if that's available to you. And that's only available to
- 16:22regular carriers who have 10 years in as a regular carrier,
- 16:28anybody under 10 years does not get the choice, they
- 16:31automatically get low option. So Bill, your thoughts on
- 16:37signing the count sheet? Not going to happen first of all
- 16:47if you look at the count sheet. And if you look below the
- 16:51numbers, it says they want you to complete the section below at
- 16:54the last day of the minimail survey.
- 16:57Well, in my office our supervisor wasn't available.
- 17:01The minimail survey sheet wasn't printed.
- 17:04Ergo we couldn't sign it. But folks, why are you going to
- 17:08sign the high low option when you don't even know your
- 17:11evaluation yet? There's no service talks on our
- 17:16minimail survey sheet. I'm not giving them one ounce of
- 17:21ink in regards to signing that sheet, and when they come by
- 17:26I'll just flatly refuse. I I won't even sign on there
- 17:30that I refuse. I'm just refusing and asking for
- 17:32a copy of it with their name on there.
- 17:35Whatever they want to write is fine by me because of the fact
- 17:37that I'm not making a decision based on numbers and an
- 17:42evaluation that I'm I have no knowledge of.
- 17:47Besides the fact that we still have all the discrepancies of,
- 17:50you know, the missing numbers on radar correlating to the days
- 17:54that you actually delivered the bundle flats mini Ram.
- 18:00And don't don't forget, if you have a discrepancy like your WSH
- 18:05numbers, that means that those count numbers are incorrect and
- 18:08therefore you should not sign and accept them as accurate.
- 18:16I didn't see a piece of. WSH in my office all last two
- 18:20weeks. We don't get a lot of it.
- 18:23Yeah, to be honest, I wasn't paying that close enough
- 18:27attention. But I don't.
- 18:31I don't think I've got any either.
- 18:34Maybe one or two pieces that were in a middle of a bundle of
- 18:38other things, but I didn't have anything that was like the
- 18:43Costco or Sam's Club stuff. Come in during the count so you
- 18:48sign the for the high option you're you're signing that you
- 18:54agree to take enough leave to keep you under 2080 and they
- 19:00can, you know, they can hold you to that come the you know later
- 19:03next year. Unless you have denied leave
- 19:09slips. Well, that's a whole another.
- 19:13That's a whole another ball game.
- 19:15Yeah, that's that's as they say, a horse or another color.
- 19:21Well, and here's here's another conflict of the situation.
- 19:24We have 18 rural routes in our office and we all got these
- 19:28local publications by the different counties and townships
- 19:34and everything. 16 of the routes had them as WSH's well and my
- 19:40629 house route I got 548 WSH. 2 routes.
- 19:46Only two routes in the entire office.
- 19:48Got them as WSS. Why?
- 19:51How come? Did they forget that?
- 19:53Did they screw up? Did the post office not warn
- 19:55these people? Or I mean you know it it is.
- 19:59It is such a ridiculous system that we have right now.
- 20:02There's so many holes and errors in it.
- 20:06I turn around, I come back on Saturday and I have, you know,
- 20:09the the package look ahead and I have a package left on my
- 20:11scanner. And I tell the supervisor and he
- 20:15goes and the computer says, Peter says you don't have
- 20:17anything. I says, how are we to trust
- 20:19these scanners with our paychecks?
- 20:25Second mini grant. Done.
- 20:27We'll get, we'll get in. We'll get into that later, too.
- 20:31Well, Bill, keep in mind with that with that one in the look
- 20:35ahead, it could have went to an office in Philadelphia, got
- 20:40scanned, arrived at unit there. It'll put it in your look ahead,
- 20:45but then if they you know and then they can track it seeing
- 20:47that it was stand in at 19020 or whatever zip it is rather than
- 20:57your zip code and that they should have put a miss set scan
- 21:01on it once they caught it. It shouldn't matter it if it
- 21:08doesn't get there in time for me to take it to the street, it
- 21:12shouldn't be on the system for that day.
- 21:15Period. Remember, we have all these
- 21:18geniuses who designed the system, Okay.
- 21:21Not disagreeing with carriers like us.
- 21:24Yep. Not disagreeing with you.
- 21:30All right. So we're going to move to when
- 21:34are the evaluations going to come back to the carriers, now
- 21:40the. Postal Service and the union
- 21:44have said that the evaluations will be going into effect
- 21:48October 7th, Supposedly. Now what that means for us is
- 21:55they should supposedly have our numbers back to us no later than
- 22:02September 30th has to be the the preceding pay period.
- 22:08It has to come to us so it can go into effect after the next
- 22:11pay period. So September 30th, October 7th,
- 22:18It's a week before. Now, through the rumor mill I've
- 22:26been hearing, supposedly the 23rd the numbers will be
- 22:31available, the evaluations will be available, but I'm not
- 22:34holding my breath on that. And there's there's no debate
- 22:38that they might even delay this count too, just like the last
- 22:41one. No, I don't think they'll delay
- 22:45it. I just think that you know they
- 22:49gave longer so they could hopefully not have the BS that
- 22:55we had this last go round with three different 4241 A's.
- 23:00So I don't know. I don't think they're going to
- 23:04delay it. I just think it's going to be
- 23:06another cluster, but that's me. And when they finally come out
- 23:12with it, just to give you guys a heads up, when they finally come
- 23:15out with it, we will be bringing up a podcast on the dispute
- 23:21process and how to do the dispute form.
- 23:26As soon as we get that information, we will let you
- 23:29guys know. But until that time,
- 23:32unfortunately, we're just as much in the dark as you guys are
- 23:35on it. We can go by.
- 23:37We can go by what happened the last time.
- 23:40But just like everything else in the rec system, it changes more
- 23:44often than people change their underwear.
- 23:46So yeah. There is a dispute highlight
- 23:49thing on the national website but that's about all there is at
- 23:54the moment. Just highlighting what you
- 23:56actually can dispute and what you need to dispute it and and
- 24:03let me tell you it from a personal point of view that's
- 24:06bullshit. They're limiting what we can
- 24:08dispute when there is tons of items outside of that spectrum
- 24:13that are are up in the air. I mean you know the parcel is a
- 24:19parcel is a parcel if it's in the hamper it's a parcel not in
- 24:22this office but it is in that office.
- 24:24You know if it if it you know fits in your case, you know it's
- 24:27a parcel. Well, if you can bend it over 6
- 24:29times, it's it's a flat. Like I said this, this is like
- 24:34Obamacare. You had to vote for it to see
- 24:36what's in it. This they're saying you had to
- 24:38implement to see what we need to correct.
- 24:41No, you didn't spend 11 years on this, ladies and gentlemen, to
- 24:45find out the bugs after you put it into effect.
- 24:49And our national board should have never agreed to put this
- 24:52into effect. They have failed us.
- 24:57I agree. I think they should have took
- 24:59those test study offices and made them beta testing offices
- 25:03before everything went live. But no, that makes sense.
- 25:08You are correct, we're not left. All right.
- 25:13The next one is, will there be adjustments made after this mini
- 25:20mail survey? It's been a big dispute online.
- 25:23I want to get your guys's take on it.
- 25:27I've heard supposedly after New Year's that they well they've
- 25:31been testing a process the last couple months in small regions.
- 25:39I heard supposedly after New Year's they should be able to do
- 25:44it. And they hold off until after
- 25:50the next mini mail survey. That way everybody's route at
- 25:54least has 52 weeks worth of. Actual information in it, you
- 25:58know, with the scans and stuff like that and the inputs and so
- 26:02on and so forth, but we know how they are and we have to take
- 26:07everything with a little bit of carrier discretion.
- 26:12Well, not looking at it, but if I remember correctly, didn't the
- 26:20Mo U what was? I know it was October of this
- 26:24year. Was it the 7th or was it the
- 26:2731st on that MSU? Towards the end of the month,
- 26:30let me go look. It up.
- 26:31All right. So it was the 30.
- 26:33So it would have been October 31st of this year, which puts us
- 26:37into November, which means they're not going to get into it
- 26:41because of the holiday season, which puts us into January
- 26:45anyway at the absolute earliest. Yeah.
- 26:59Hey, it we'll see. I mean.
- 27:03That with the with the change of the CBU's and curbside volume
- 27:10factor system, I think it would be wise of them to hold off on
- 27:13that anyway in the first place. It'll be interesting to see how
- 27:19that affects things overall. You know because.
- 27:24Like you guys are like I know Kristen most of her your routes
- 27:28or curbside yes where my route is 7 is probably 70% CVU.
- 27:37It is in effect going back to your MOU on route territorial
- 27:42adjustments. It is October 7th is when that
- 27:47ML. U expires, right?
- 27:49I couldn't remember if it was the 7th of the 31st.
- 27:51I knew it was one or the other. Yeah, it's the 7th.
- 27:54I just looked it up. OK yeah, it was the IT was the
- 27:57end of this count. But I would not put it past them
- 28:00to extend it because they probably still haven't figured
- 28:02out how to do the computer programming.
- 28:05I doubt they'll extend it. They just have it.
- 28:11They haven't figured out the mapping yet for everybody and
- 28:14the the mapping keeps changing. So how they gonna figure out the
- 28:18adjustments? You can't even get management to
- 28:22sit down and map with the carriers still.
- 28:25I can't. I I It just irks me.
- 28:30So Chris and our ours are even worse.
- 28:32We have to have a facilitator there because our manager
- 28:35doesn't know how to do it. My manager told me that once I
- 28:39go full time, she doesn't think I'll be able to facilitate
- 28:43anymore because she doesn't know how to pay me.
- 28:49Yeah. 8127 time on a P code. That's how you pay them.
- 28:56That's how I get paid for it is 8127 on a P code.
- 28:59Of course then I have to explain.
- 29:01Then I have to explain to our state secretary that I'm only
- 29:05doing math, I think facilitation, in order to be
- 29:08able to be a delegate and conventions.
- 29:12Yeah, yeah. But do you have your own ACE ID
- 29:16for that? No, I do not.
- 29:19Okay, so you use managements like I do.
- 29:22Exactly, although technically, just like clerks and city
- 29:27carriers, we all should have ACE IDs to log into the computer.
- 29:30But the issue is, is that you have to log in once at least
- 29:34every two weeks in order for you to maintain the log in for it.
- 29:39Yeah. Oh hell, we can't even log into
- 29:43the Wi-Fi doing steward work. What the hell makes you think
- 29:47they're going to give you any type of access to their system?
- 29:50Oh, I know, right? I wouldn't.
- 29:52I wouldn't use their systems, their internets or anything for
- 29:56steward work because that allows them to have access to
- 30:00everything. Yeah, No.
- 30:02Every piece of data you pass through their Wi-Fi, every piece
- 30:05of data you pass through their Wi-Fi they can look at.
- 30:11All right. And I wouldn't put.
- 30:12That going off track here, Let's move her back on to where we
- 30:15were. OK.
- 30:17All right. So we've had some carriers get
- 30:22their dispute forms back. Some carriers did win their
- 30:28disputes. However, they got their
- 30:30adjustments and are not getting any back pay on it.
- 30:34Some carriers got their dispute forms back and it told them
- 30:40that. Because they argued that they
- 30:43didn't receive training on it, that it's been on the union
- 30:47website since April of 2022. Some of them have not gotten
- 30:52their dispute forms back yet. It's been a giant cluster
- 30:56bucket. It has been.
- 30:59It really has been. And the problem The problem is
- 31:03some of it is. Not getting relayed from the
- 31:07management to the carrier, some of it is.
- 31:10It hasn't been fully resolved yet through this.
- 31:13Now, have any of you guys gotten your disputes back?
- 31:16We had the one in our office on my primary route because he had
- 31:21filed that dispute on the mileage.
- 31:23He has not received the actual dispute back from management.
- 31:27In fact, my postmaster hasn't even received it yet.
- 31:31However, he got a new form 50 a couple weeks ago, or I should
- 31:36say yeah, it last week before the paycheck stuff that had the
- 31:43effective date of May 26th on it to where his mileage was correct
- 31:49and it was actually enough to put him up one hour and on his
- 31:55paycheck he received. He did have the pay adjustment
- 31:58retro pay on there. As did I.
- 32:00Wasn't much, but for me. But yeah, and the and the and
- 32:04the back pay too, right? Yeah, yeah, he got the he got
- 32:09the EMA and the back pay. Yeah.
- 32:15Now the the Delaware P A2 district, we still have at least
- 32:2140 plus offices that haven't received their disputes back yet
- 32:25from the first mini mail survey. I know in North Carolina of the
- 32:334000 disputes they had, they did, they did sit on all.
- 32:39And the understanding I have is labor was supposed to sprinkle
- 32:46it down to to local management who was then supposed to give it
- 32:49to the carrier. But you know, like James said,
- 32:54some of them. It hasn't made its way to the
- 32:58local management yet. You guys were ready for the
- 33:02passionate hardcore 1:00 tonight?
- 33:05Go for it. Yeah, baby.
- 33:08Go, go. Light it up, baby.
- 33:12Light it up. Between the group of us, we've
- 33:15gotten several emails and messages about managerial
- 33:21harassment, so I'm going to read.
- 33:26Each e-mail lets you guys discuss the e-mail itself.
- 33:31And then after those two emails, then we can get into an actual
- 33:35discussion on how to deal with managerial harassment.
- 33:39Okay. Can we do that that way?
- 33:43Yep. All right, so this first one, I
- 33:48have an area on my route that has five Cbus.
- 33:52In another area, the next street over that also has five CBUS.
- 33:57These addresses are for brand new half million to million
- 34:00dollar homes in some condos, around 200 addresses between the
- 34:0510 CB U's. I've been on my route for almost
- 34:09five years and I was a sub on my route before I did it.
- 34:13I've always delivered these the same way even before Rex.
- 34:17I load tubs below my tray for each set of five two total.
- 34:22Any of the larger packages go in my door jam on the left hand
- 34:25side as long as they fit. When I pull up, I pull up on the
- 34:29left hand side and deliver from that side back and forth between
- 34:32my truck and the CBU. This is a high volume area with
- 34:36a lot of packages and a lot of flats and at least two bundles
- 34:41of D PS:. A day.
- 34:44I am a 5 foot one petite girl. I can only hold so much D PS:.
- 34:49In my hands at a time. Yet I am being harassed about
- 34:54making too many authorized dismount trips.
- 34:57Currently on a daily basis I have anywhere from 6 to 9 trips,
- 35:02including my initial trip to complete delivery.
- 35:05In the beginning, our postmaster and supervisors were telling us
- 35:08that packages were not counted in the trips.
- 35:11They literally had a stand up talk saying to not include
- 35:13packages. After reading through the recs
- 35:16questions I realized that there were at least two areas in there
- 35:19that said packages were included.
- 35:22I brought this to the attention of my postmaster and was yelled
- 35:25at and she has yet to correct it with anyone.
- 35:28About 3 weeks ago my supervisor came up to me and told me on the
- 35:32workroom floor that I needed to start doing 1 authorized
- 35:36dismount for my area and take a tub to the CBU and work out of
- 35:40the tub and scoot it with my foot.
- 35:43I let them know that this is a safety issue and also an issue
- 35:46of protecting the mail from theft and weather.
- 35:49I asked him to put it in writing what he was telling me because
- 35:52it sounded so ridiculous. I got it in writing, which I
- 35:55will include. It has no letterhead, no date
- 35:58and I did not sign it and he asked me to after are we
- 36:02supposed to sign what we asked them to put into writing?
- 36:05After this conversation, I filed A grievance which currently my
- 36:09inhouse steward has pushed back until the 14th.
- 36:12Because of count, about a week after getting that I had an I I
- 36:17following a direct on following a direct order from my
- 36:20supervisor which he did not have the exact date on when he gave
- 36:25me that direct order because he is considering the letter he
- 36:28gave me that I asked him to write is his writing as a direct
- 36:32order. Fast forward a little bit until
- 36:34yesterday I was given seven day in house suspension form for not
- 36:38stopping my scans. The day I went into the office
- 36:42this morning with another grievance on the suspension and
- 36:46my supervisor had a hard time signing it because he says he is
- 36:49not disciplining me because of my scans.
- 36:52But it's disciplining me because I'm not following instructions
- 36:55to which the instructions I am not following are my scans.
- 36:59So I'm very confused. I have asked him to look back
- 37:03into past data. To which he said he could see
- 37:06back to November of last year and could see that my stands
- 37:09were similar to what I'm inputting now.
- 37:12My route is a 47K and went up with last count.
- 37:15What can I do? I'm so stressed about this and
- 37:19I'm losing pay due to not putting in the numbers that are
- 37:21correct. My supervisor has said that I
- 37:25could just grab it later and then probably get a settlement
- 37:28for it, but I don't know how that would work towards my
- 37:31salary. I'm really sick of dealing with
- 37:33this and I'm hoping you guys can provide me some clarity or
- 37:36direction while I'm waiting on an e-mail back from our district
- 37:39Rep Love the pod guys and you guys are keeping me sane and
- 37:43going. Thank you.
- 37:44That was a long one. It did.
- 37:50It started off with this one going to be a long one that was
- 37:55sent three days ago. By the way, just so y'all have a
- 37:58heat line. I want to hear bills on this
- 38:05one. Yeah, definitely.
- 38:07Bill would be the one I want to hear, but I would hope that we
- 38:09would give him time to gather his thoughts on it before we let
- 38:13him loose. File file, file, file, file and
- 38:18then file again. And if you don't get a reply
- 38:23from your Dr. move up the chain and and then you go EE O and
- 38:30file for harassment. If you have it in history of
- 38:34delivering those CBU showing your dismount, how can they
- 38:38contend that you're not doing it properly?
- 38:41If you have paperwork in your hand showing that the parcels
- 38:45are authorized dismounts at CBU, how can they argue it?
- 38:49They are in direct violation of the contract.
- 38:52Keep filing until you choke them with enough paper, until it
- 38:56comes out their ass. Enough of this harassment and
- 39:00you relay that to your local registered union representative,
- 39:05the ADR, the Dr. and you go up to your committee person and you
- 39:09don't stop until they back off. The first time you back off is
- 39:14when they're going to win. OK, so don't back off.
- 39:19Make them eat. Their word.
- 39:21Make them read the contract. Make them honor the contract.
- 39:26And don't settle for language. Oh, hell no, because I'll give
- 39:31you some language that settle for.
- 39:35Anybody else on that one or you want to go on the second one
- 39:38before we get finish up with harassment?
- 39:42You said that the supervisors and put it in writing but would
- 39:44not date it or sign it themselves.
- 39:48It's not a direct order, it's it's not signed if they're not
- 39:52willing to put their name on it. They wanted to have the carrier
- 39:59signed, acknowledging, yeah. So I would just put that in as
- 40:06part of the statement that the Union reference with the
- 40:09grievance. Yeah, you're saying they did not
- 40:15make it a direct order because they did not date and sign it
- 40:19and they can't prove what date they gave it to you, and you
- 40:24don't have a copy of it either. So did they just print this out
- 40:27themselves? Did they print this out to make
- 40:30it look like they had a direct order that day?
- 40:34Because they have to put their signature on it with a round
- 40:37date. The round date is not, so that
- 40:40way they could say it was On this date.
- 40:42That round date is to say it was this office On this date.
- 40:46That's what the round date is for.
- 40:47It's your post offices stamp saying your cancellation stamp,
- 40:51basically saying that it was this office at this date and
- 40:56that's when they should round date it and sign it.
- 40:59And that makes it a direct order.
- 41:01They're just writing it on pieces of paper.
- 41:03It's not a direct order because they don't have the date or
- 41:05their name on it saying it's from them, it's not their word,
- 41:10it's just a piece of paper. It could have been written by
- 41:13your case mate saying the same thing you they don't know the
- 41:17difference. So but the next one I have is
- 41:24kind of along the same lines but also more other parts of recs in
- 41:30the mini mail survey. Hello Unite, we scan.
- 41:34I became a new carrier February 11th, couple weeks before a mini
- 41:38mail survey. The route I ended up with was a
- 41:41growing 44-H route even though the entire office knows it's
- 41:45more package heavy. We also were aware the previous
- 41:49carrier on the route only did 6 scans, never scanning at
- 41:54delivery points and had an updated mapping.
- 41:57Mini mail survey ends and my route actually went down to a 43
- 42:00H well every route in our office went up.
- 42:03Didn't make sense. Finally got on the mapping and
- 42:06there was a lot missing. Fix what I knew PO is not a lot
- 42:11of help and I'm just learning the system now.
- 42:14The route is averaging 200 plus package of the day 350 ish on
- 42:19Mondays. Most days I have three trips to
- 42:22get it all done. The PO is refusing to give me
- 42:25help saying only overburden routes get help Knowing the
- 42:29truth about this route. It's so discouraging knowing the
- 42:32post office allows one person so much abusing power over a
- 42:35facility. But that's another story
- 42:38question PO has avoided doing mapping with me all of August.
- 42:43I've asked every week right up until September 8th.
- 42:46She can't says can't do mapping until books come back.
- 42:49They've had my book all month. Should I grieve this ASAP?
- 42:53Also she won't give me package help to do mapping at on end of
- 42:57shift duties. She would expect me to do it do
- 43:00on my PM casing time. Is she required to help me so I
- 43:04can get mapping done on end of shift time?
- 43:07Grievance question. Since I started working there
- 43:11almost three years now. There is black mold growing on
- 43:14the ceiling. Majority is over my case.
- 43:16People have complained and nothing got done.
- 43:18Is there something that can be done?
- 43:20Every few weeks I have to call out or take a day off.
- 43:24I'm working six days a week with no package help.
- 43:26It's painful. My body hurts everywhere.
- 43:29I have injuries from overuse that are not healing.
- 43:33I call out on September 25th, she texted me saying I need a
- 43:36doctor note. I replied if I'm out three days
- 43:38or more, you'll get one. She said I have authority to ask
- 43:41now. I ignored it. 14 days later she
- 43:44pulls me in her office saying she's doing an investigation of
- 43:47interview. My union steward was with me.
- 43:50PO said she had every right to ask for a doctor's note from me.
- 43:54I bit my tongue, just answered her questions and left.
- 43:57Union Steward assured me she did nothing official and it was a
- 44:00scare tactic. I really can't stand this
- 44:03person, but I it won't make me back down.
- 44:06She's a bully. I'm not having it.
- 44:09Anyway, thoughts on this day? One sick and note needed.
- 44:12Thanks for hearing me out. I'm tired, stressed and angry.
- 44:15I like my job. I love you all.
- 44:17Listen, every week you've helped build confidence in my craft
- 44:20well. 1st thank you second for the mold 1767.
- 44:31And contact OSHA. Yep, unfortunately Parcel help.
- 44:41There's not much that can be done in regards to getting
- 44:45parcel Help. Come back at the end of the day
- 44:48after completing the route while still return to.
- 44:52I'm sorry, delivery unit is when you would do the mapping if
- 44:58they're doing it in the afternoon.
- 45:00Not on PM Jason if there if your postmaster is telling you you
- 45:03have to do it on PM Jason, file on that.
- 45:07I would say if you you got the route in February what's and if
- 45:14you've been doing all of your stands religiously since you got
- 45:17the route in February, let's see where you end up this time.
- 45:21Hopefully you'll be you know you'll go up and to at least
- 45:26today route but until. We get these results.
- 45:34It's hard to say, you know, hard to say anything you know it take
- 45:37you. Keep in mind it's going to take
- 45:38a full 52 weeks, so it won't be until the next mini mail survey,
- 45:44a new evaluation that you'll actually see the full results of
- 45:49what the route is really worth. If the your predecessor was only
- 45:54doing the six mandatory scans next, yeah, I'm going to say
- 46:02you're postmaster avoiding doing the mapping.
- 46:05Definitely file a grievance on that, especially now that the
- 46:09minimail survey is over and the results are going to be coming
- 46:12in. That's one of the big things
- 46:15that you need to file on is that I have not done mapping and I
- 46:18did not have mapping completed by the minimail survey time or
- 46:22by the end of the minimail survey.
- 46:24That way you have the 14 days to file the grievance from the end
- 46:27of the minimail survey because they were supposed to have that
- 46:30done by the 8th and if your mapping is not accurate and not
- 46:35complete file agreements on that.
- 46:38That is separate from the dispute process.
- 46:41Mapping should be done monthly and it should be done on return
- 46:45to DU time should not be on PM casings should not be clocked
- 46:48out. The only other way mapping can
- 46:52be done is 8127 time in the morning and they provide
- 46:57auxiliary assistance for you, whether it's putting a sub in
- 47:00your case to continue casing while you're doing the mapping
- 47:03or giving you parcel help when you're out delivering on the
- 47:07route one of the two, but that's well that.
- 47:09Definitely needs to be agreed. It would be either 8127 or
- 47:15auxiliary help for the amount of time that it took you to do the
- 47:17mapping. No during in the AM time, they
- 47:21should be giving auxiliary assistance while doing mapping
- 47:24and the mapping should be on 8127 times because it's supposed
- 47:27to be baked into the evaluation. So they're paying for not baking
- 47:31it in the evaluation and the auxiliary assistance is just to
- 47:34keep them in timeline on their route.
- 47:40I'd have to look into that one, but I I think it would be I I
- 47:44understand what you're saying, but I think it would be either
- 47:47or because if they give you. Let's say it's a hour.
- 47:51If they give them what A an hour?
- 47:52If anyone's from the 7th time you're getting paid that hour,
- 47:55if they give me one hour of a journey of social that much of
- 47:58the time you were in the August month with the week, yeah.
- 48:03So we'll figure that out and we'll we'll let you guys know
- 48:06next week we'll make a note of that Josh.
- 48:09We'll look it up and give it the the results of next week's
- 48:13podcast and then the other can I other question?
- 48:18Can I add a footnote on there? Didn't I see something on our
- 48:22national website saying mapping is the most important phase of
- 48:28the rec system? Yes.
- 48:32Okay. Then how come we're not forcing
- 48:36this issue from the national level?
- 48:41People can draw their own conclusions that carry your
- 48:44discretion on that. Yeah, I I would say to every
- 48:54carrier out there who is not being let, who is not involved
- 49:00in their mapping in any way shape or form, whether it's
- 49:05excuse after excuse or trying to whatever it is file immediately.
- 49:14Every single one of you out there who hasn't been able.
- 49:17To update who hasn't been able to look at it?
- 49:20Who is told? You know no, we're just doing
- 49:23updates. You can't look at anything else.
- 49:26Who hasn't been allowed to look at anything?
- 49:28Whose management mapped it for them without telling them any?
- 49:33Any and everything of that stuff needs to be filed on and keep
- 49:38filing on it until something to happen, till it's taken care of,
- 49:43until you're doing it every single month and they give you
- 49:47the ability to go through everything on the mapping
- 49:49program every single time. File a grievance.
- 49:52If they're not allowing you to do that, it doesn't matter if
- 49:55you have no updates to your edit book.
- 49:57I had no updates one month and I went in, did my mapping, and I
- 50:01found errors in my mapping. I had that.
- 50:05So it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter whether you
- 50:08have updates or not. You should be going through your
- 50:11mapping every single month, and there are a lot of managers that
- 50:15won't let you do that. I know a manager personally who
- 50:19I know would not do that with their carriers.
- 50:23I can't say anything for that office because I'm not an area
- 50:27steward, ADR or Dr. or NRO or Director of Steward Operations.
- 50:33I can't say anything to that person right now, but those
- 50:37carriers should be filing agreements every single time
- 50:40with their designated union representative, and that is
- 50:45something that needs to be done now.
- 50:47We need to step up and protect our own pay.
- 50:51I'm going to finish up with just her last question here of the
- 50:55mold. Yes, contact your contact OSHA,
- 51:01Occupational Safety Health Administration, Contact your
- 51:04County Health Department. They have access to that as
- 51:08well, so I would get a hold of everybody you can to get that
- 51:13resolved and file us at a 1767 safety hazard form.
- 51:20Mold is deadly. Yes, yes, it is.
- 51:26So management's going to continue to harass us because
- 51:31they've been unabated by it. They've been doing it not only
- 51:34to us but the city carriers as well.
- 51:36You can hear that from aid arbitration.
- 51:39Management's going to harass carriers to get us to do things
- 51:44the way they want them done. And as soon as we continue to do
- 51:48them the way they've done, as soon as we start standing up for
- 51:51it, they're going to start saying, oh, past practice, we've
- 51:54been doing it this way, Past practice, we've been doing that
- 51:57way. Stand up now, fight for it now,
- 52:00or else you'll lose it. That's the biggest thing here.
- 52:05Past practice is something they're going to use against us,
- 52:09and unless we stand up and fight management now to support the
- 52:13contract that we have and the Mous we have and the Rex
- 52:18information that we have, use it or lose it.
- 52:25I hate to be a fear monger on that, but we know management
- 52:29will climb a tree to lie, then stand on the ground to tell the
- 52:33truth. Phil, go.
- 52:36This is your area. Past practices don't justify
- 52:40future action. If you've been doing it wrong,
- 52:44then correct it. If they don't, correct it.
- 52:47File, file, file. Ladies and gentlemen, let me
- 52:51tell you, there is nothing funnier than when I would walk
- 52:55up to the postmaster with a piece of paper in my hand and he
- 52:58would just roll his eyes and just say what now?
- 53:01Because he knew I'd have a grievance in my hand he was
- 53:05going to pay. And and language.
- 53:08I didn't settle for language. Except for yes.
- 53:10I'll take care of it. Make out the settlement form.
- 53:13I'll sign it. That's the only language I ever
- 53:15settled for every time. The only time I ever settled for
- 53:19language is when it went to Step 2.
- 53:22And then my Dr. got some of my language.
- 53:25Protect yourself. Protect the craft.
- 53:29Help those around you. There are plenty of people out
- 53:32there are afraid of retaliation. But if you get a strong enough.
- 53:37Face in your office. Then you'll all be able to stand
- 53:40up the management and they will back off.
- 53:43EE OS 1760 Seven's Call OSHA about the black mold, National
- 53:48Labor Relations Board, whatever it takes to get them in line.
- 53:53Because this is the worst I've ever seen in my life as far as
- 53:59the intimidation, the fear factor that management's trying
- 54:03to instill into our craft. Across the board, across the
- 54:07entire country, and I'm sick and tired of of hearing it.
- 54:10I I really AM. I'm going to add to that just a
- 54:15little bit. I was talking to an Academy
- 54:16instructor friend of mine this past week and they happen to
- 54:21have been in doing where they were teaching Academy the
- 54:26previous week. There was also management
- 54:28training going on, and all it was about was getting people out
- 54:32faster and working harder. They're going to abuse you.
- 54:39They're going to abuse you. They're going to see how much
- 54:43stuff they can get away from before you finally put your foot
- 54:47down and say enough is enough and now enough is enough.
- 54:53They've screwed with our pay. They've screwed with our work
- 54:57conditions. They've screwed with our
- 54:59benefits. They're screwing with carriers,
- 55:03making them work God awful hours because they're too lazy to hire
- 55:08people. They're too lazy to change the
- 55:09way they do things, to get more people into these offices, to
- 55:13get them to work. And they're too lazy to fix the
- 55:17system that's broken. And that system that's broken is
- 55:21management. The way they manage people is
- 55:24broken and we need to be the ones to stand up and tell them
- 55:29enough is enough and all it takes is 1 carrier in an office
- 55:34to file a grievance, turn around and get paid for that grievance
- 55:38and go look. I filed a grievance on them
- 55:40doing this to me and I got this check that gets the other
- 55:46carriers going. Money, money.
- 55:48I can get money and then more of them will file grievances.
- 55:54Be the person that steps up and shows these carriers that
- 55:57fighting for what you deserve. Fair pay for Fair Work.
- 56:04Show them the check. Get them involved.
- 56:08Show them that fighting for your money is worth it.
- 56:12Any steward worth their salt is going to fight every single
- 56:15grievance you put in front of them.
- 56:17It doesn't matter if they're going to win or lose, they're
- 56:20going to fight that one to the death.
- 56:23They're going to do a celebrity death match with management on
- 56:26that one for you. If they're the stewards worth
- 56:29their salt, and if you have a steward that's not worth their
- 56:32salt, you got several options. You can vote them out.
- 56:37You can run against them as a steward.
- 56:40You can turn around, contact your ADR, Dr. or whoever's above
- 56:44them and let them know that they're not doing their job.
- 56:49It's possible to win 95% of the grievances you put out there.
- 56:56The problem is people are only filing on 5% of the things that
- 57:01are grievable. Time to step up those numbers,
- 57:07time to get involved. Time to get in front of your
- 57:09management and get them to do the thing they're supposed to be
- 57:13doing, which is honoring the contract and honoring the Mou's
- 57:16that have been signed. We're a passionate group here.
- 57:22We care about all of you. We want you to succeed at this,
- 57:27but you need to step up and help us help you by filing
- 57:32grievances. I've got a comment from last
- 57:36week's episode that the commenter says I agree with Bill
- 57:42about geofencing scanning for that delay due to whether it's
- 57:46crazy that they call us thieves or liars.
- 57:49If they call this Integrity scanning, where is the Integrity
- 57:53Criminals Bike drop? Amen.
- 57:59Yeah. Well, we also have a comment in
- 58:04the chat section there about having somebody to stand up and
- 58:10don't wait for somebody else to do it.
- 58:12Be the first, be the first. And we'll stand.
- 58:16And we'll stand with you, everyone of us here.
- 58:20I I don't know if our listening audience understands, but.
- 58:24I'm not the most popular person at the National Convention for
- 58:28some unknown reason. I don't think any of us are
- 58:31anymore, but I'm definitely not anymore.
- 58:37But the thing, the thing of it is in my office where I had to
- 58:42represent people I'm not especially fond of.
- 58:46Do you know how big a smile they have when they get their pay
- 58:50stub and they see a grievance settlement on there?
- 58:53That they forgot about or they didn't expect to get or how much
- 58:58it was. And I tell him I said glad to be
- 59:02of service. And that's what this is about,
- 59:05being of service to you. All right, here's one for you
- 59:08guys in the In the chat, my union, Stewart says I have to
- 59:12pick my battles instead of just filing on every contract
- 59:16violation. I would say that your your, your
- 59:21union steward needs to go back to their route.
- 59:25If they're not on their route, and if they're a local union
- 59:28steward, I would say vote them out.
- 59:31Next time around. Remember a vote amount.
- 59:35In July, In July of 24 calls for contractually every four years
- 59:42to coincide with the presidential elections, you're
- 59:46supposed to have a. Stewart election.
- 59:50If you wish to, you don't have to, but yeah.
- 59:53Or have you removed have this steward removed for failure to
- 59:58duly represent? Yep.
- 1:00:00Yeah, you can call for an for an election for yourself too if you
- 1:00:04wish. I'm going to quote a friend of
- 1:00:06mine. I know I've cop screenshot of
- 1:00:10this opposed to a couple locations, but.
- 1:00:13I'm a quote a friend of mine who made a post the other day and
- 1:00:16this person has a lot of good words of wisdom that kind of
- 1:00:19fall into what we are speaking. It says if you're not grown
- 1:00:25enough to be able to listen to things with which you might
- 1:00:28disagree and be open to learning from differing opinions, then
- 1:00:33you're not yet grown enough for leadership, private sector or
- 1:00:36public service. In a world where you can be
- 1:00:39anything, be kind, and be kind enough to listen once in a
- 1:00:42while, the world can change in a positive way when listening
- 1:00:46happens. You're here.
- 1:00:52Yep. I would say going back to with,
- 1:00:59I would say going back to with what we were talking, you know
- 1:01:01with that comment that we were just talking about.
- 1:01:05Conversation I had with one of the supervisors that's not over
- 1:01:09the rule at all. So they don't deal with the
- 1:01:11grievances at all about a grievance that I filed for them
- 1:01:16sending messages on the spanner. He's like he asked what's the
- 1:01:24point? He says well how am I supposed
- 1:01:26to get information out to you? I'm like you can come out and
- 1:01:30find me on the route or wait till I get back.
- 1:01:34I he's like, why? Why file?
- 1:01:36I say because if I let you get away with something simple like
- 1:01:39that, what's the next thing you're going to try and break
- 1:01:42the contract with? Exactly.
- 1:01:49Don't be afraid to file on the small stuff, because the small
- 1:01:53stuff turns into big stuff. Yep, because we're going to say,
- 1:01:59well, we got away with this. What else can we get away with?
- 1:02:04And you don't want to do that. You know management.
- 1:02:12Management is not your friend. All right.
- 1:02:19I'm sorry, Bill, you were going to say something and.
- 1:02:22Well, the piggyback off of Kristen in regards to listening.
- 1:02:26It was funny because I went to Catholic school all my life.
- 1:02:31And I learned a very important lesson in 7th grade from a
- 1:02:36sister, Anne Elizabeth, who had a propensity for beating us.
- 1:02:41And I was arguing a .1 day and and she smacked me upside the
- 1:02:46head and said, you know, Mr. May, you can't listen if you're
- 1:02:50talking. And that's that's funny because
- 1:02:53it's so true. If you don't shut up, how are
- 1:02:57you going to listen to the other person?
- 1:03:00How are you going to hear what they're really saying?
- 1:03:02It's a physical anomaly that while you're talking, your jaws
- 1:03:08and your eardrums are working so that you're blocking out most of
- 1:03:11what the other person's trying to say.
- 1:03:13So stop, pause. Listen to the other side of the
- 1:03:17argument, the other other opinion, whether you know it's
- 1:03:21opposing to what your beliefs and are, and just take into
- 1:03:25consideration what the other person's saying.
- 1:03:29Now in regards to management, if their mouth is moving, they're
- 1:03:32lying. OK, so file, file, file.
- 1:03:39Here's another one in there. Can you file anonymously to not
- 1:03:43get backlash from fellow carriers?
- 1:03:47She just said no, you can't file anonymously, but technically a
- 1:03:57grievance should be private. I would say it the only the only
- 1:04:05way for it to be anonymous as if it affects more than one carrier
- 1:04:14where it asks for your your personal information you can put
- 1:04:18class action and send it into the Stewart.
- 1:04:28Yep, supposedly. And and that that's a problem we
- 1:04:33have in our craft, OK. I mean, you know, you're worried
- 1:04:37about backlash from fellow carriers who are working off the
- 1:04:40clock or or bending the rules and being the teacher's pet.
- 1:04:44And you know folks, this stuff has to stop and and you, you
- 1:04:50have to be strong enough person to turn around and go to the
- 1:04:53other carriers to say do you know, we all.
- 1:04:56Are part of the same craft. We're all part of the union.
- 1:04:59We're all brothers and sisters in this, so please stop it.
- 1:05:05Do what's good for everybody, not just for yourself.
- 1:05:08Look past yourselves, because that's that's the foundation of
- 1:05:12the union. We're looking out for the entire
- 1:05:14body, not just one or two people.
- 1:05:16Yes, we are protecting a individual in a certain
- 1:05:19situation, but it's for the good of the entire craft.
- 1:05:29On a side note. On a side note, I I've never
- 1:05:33seen men turn into such Willy nilly little gospelters until I
- 1:05:38came to those office. They are the worst.
- 1:05:45I'll let you handle this question, James.
- 1:05:47Are we getting on the paychecks this week?
- 1:05:52No. No, it'll be No, they're all
- 1:05:58going to be. They're all going to be zeros
- 1:05:59this week for everybody. Just kidding.
- 1:06:04Just kidding. I I have it.
- 1:06:06Other half was going to, the other half's going to get them
- 1:06:10this week and the ones that got last week aren't going to get
- 1:06:12them. That's what's probably going to
- 1:06:13happen. No, supposedly the system worked
- 1:06:16fine for updating it. I've been hearing some people
- 1:06:19are getting their paying their accounts already on some places
- 1:06:25and things like that they're showing a prepayment to their
- 1:06:27accounts. So, so far we're okay on that,
- 1:06:30that aspect because the same people said they didn't get
- 1:06:33their pay last time, but it'll probably still be a few more
- 1:06:38weeks before we get the paycheck that was lost.
- 1:06:41For those that did not get paid, supposedly we're supposed to get
- 1:06:48them. So we'll we'll see in a few
- 1:06:50weeks If everybody slowly gets their their paychecks that they
- 1:06:54missed or not. And remember, those of you that
- 1:06:57got their 65%, there may be a chance that you actually get a
- 1:07:01negative check. I would grieve it.
- 1:07:04Well, I would grieve it and consider it the cost of losing
- 1:07:09your check. All right, I got this one I just
- 1:07:13came through. Can you file a grievance against
- 1:07:15a clerk who is taking green cards off of certified letters
- 1:07:19calling RCA stupid? No, you can't file against the
- 1:07:25clerk. You have to file against
- 1:07:29management for allowing the clerk to do that.
- 1:07:33On top of that, if they are taking the green cards off of
- 1:07:37certified letters, I would call the Office of Inspector General.
- 1:07:41Well, we don't know if they're being signed and then, but yeah,
- 1:07:46I don't know if they're calling the RCA stupid.
- 1:07:49And why are they taking the green cards off of the certified
- 1:07:52letters? That's a return receipt.
- 1:07:56Yeah, they're doing it it. Has it has to be signed.
- 1:07:59Therefore, they are messing with mail, which is a felony.
- 1:08:05Yes, that. Needs to be brought up to
- 1:08:07management and gone from there and file a hostile work
- 1:08:12environment. Did management violate the
- 1:08:17contract MO use or joint statement AT4-40 when it allowed
- 1:08:23clerks Owens though to belittle the Rcas and file it as a class
- 1:08:28action? I love that word because it's
- 1:08:32every. It starts with that and there's
- 1:08:344 letters. File, file.
- 1:08:43But yeah, you you deserve to work in a workplace that is free
- 1:08:48of harassment, where everybody is treated with dignity,
- 1:08:51fairness and respect. There are two joint statements
- 1:08:54about this, both of them related to facility dangerous
- 1:09:00conditions. We'll keep it clean to keep it
- 1:09:03from being pulled from multiple platforms that use plots to
- 1:09:07figure out whether you say specific keywords.
- 1:09:11But one of them was Royal Oak. So that gives you an idea as to
- 1:09:16why they wrote those joint statements.
- 1:09:19We've had issues in other offices recently where
- 1:09:23situations like that have occurred.
- 1:09:27We need to force them on the joint statement 4-40.
- 1:09:32We need to be treated with dignity, fairness and respect.
- 1:09:34That's another grievance you can file.
- 1:09:38Protect yourself. Protect your.
- 1:09:42Life. It's not a four letter word, but
- 1:09:46it I got a word for you. It starts with that, but ends
- 1:09:48with UCK. By the wrong word, Yeah, fire
- 1:09:54truck. Yep, it's.
- 1:09:58A little bit longer than 4 letters though.
- 1:10:01I said it was more than 4 letters.
- 1:10:03Yeah, that's true. I I have.
- 1:10:06I received this message on September 4th and I kind of want
- 1:10:11to share it because it's really awesome and I know we've been
- 1:10:14passionate, but I received this message.
- 1:10:17It just says I absolutely love the podcast with three
- 1:10:21exclamation marks. I'm not going to say where
- 1:10:24they're from and have learned so much and it helps that we are
- 1:10:28truly in this together. Keep it up and thanks.
- 1:10:33And I guess they're from the United States.
- 1:10:37They are absolutely no. And thank you for listening.
- 1:10:43Absolutely. Thank you.
- 1:10:44We appreciate every single one of you as as you all continue to
- 1:10:50grow and we're growing with you. That is definitely for sure.
- 1:10:56Yeah, I have one. Let me point this out real quick
- 1:11:00that you know even if. By some miracle, Bill May became
- 1:11:05President of of the NRLCAI, would still be on this podcast
- 1:11:12and I would still solicit questions, challenges, you know,
- 1:11:18and and the agonies of our carriers directly because of the
- 1:11:21fact that, you know, I can't get this information from the
- 1:11:24National Board, I can't get it from the state presidents or the
- 1:11:27DR's or a DR's if you don't listen to the people on the
- 1:11:31ground. How are you going to know what
- 1:11:34needs to be addressed? How?
- 1:11:36How are you going to know why people are walking off the job
- 1:11:39and leaving their badges and scanners and keys on the case?
- 1:11:43Or why people are so frustrated with the the union as a whole
- 1:11:48and and this, this, this is what they don't understand and this
- 1:11:52is what they don't grasp. That these are our lives, folks,
- 1:11:58I mean. You're you're not playing with
- 1:12:01just numbers like they do. Oh well, you know, if we had
- 1:12:04another 4000 members, we'd have 15,000,000 in our coffer.
- 1:12:07But by no, no, no. These are human beings.
- 1:12:11You're dealing with the emotions, the intellects, the
- 1:12:15sorrows, the joys and these people don't get it.
- 1:12:20No, because if I remember the State of the Union address for
- 1:12:23what I could sit through until Doctor Miracle took the stage,
- 1:12:27all it was was talking about money.
- 1:12:30It wasn't talking about the carriers in the union and what's
- 1:12:34going on, on those aspects. It was how much we put out for
- 1:12:38the flipping elevators and how much more work we need done on
- 1:12:42the office and doing this. It was all about the money.
- 1:12:46And I'm over it. I, you know, I, I get it.
- 1:12:51A building needs upkeep. But when you have the carriers
- 1:12:54that are suffering day in and day out at the hands of
- 1:12:58management. You know what?
- 1:13:01That money that you is not that important.
- 1:13:04What should be important is you caring about the carriers that
- 1:13:08are on the ground and getting that taken care of.
- 1:13:17I'm off my box now, Kristen. I don't remember.
- 1:13:19Do they do Finance Report? Yes.
- 1:13:23Tuesday or Wednesday? Okay.
- 1:13:25So there is a time and place in the program for them to discuss
- 1:13:29financials. Yeah, Okay.
- 1:13:33All right. I'm I'm stepping off the soapbox
- 1:13:36before I fall on the rabbit hole.
- 1:13:39Well, what doesn't? What doesn't help is when you
- 1:13:42have your president come to midstates and agree with the
- 1:13:49regional OPS manager that it's the carrier's fault that their
- 1:13:53evaluations went down. And then you have your new
- 1:13:57president reiterate that fact after he's elected president.
- 1:14:02That it's the carrier's fault for not going to the union
- 1:14:05website and getting the information and learning their
- 1:14:08own their own craft. Even though we have the M36 that
- 1:14:12says management is responsible for extreme changes in the
- 1:14:17workflow process, we needed to held them accountable to that.
- 1:14:23But our union leaders did not step up and say you guys need to
- 1:14:28train us on this. You need to set a time and a
- 1:14:31place for every carrier to be trained on this.
- 1:14:33Whether they are regular carriers, Rcas, Arcs, it doesn't
- 1:14:37matter. They all need to be trained on
- 1:14:39this system because you're putting them into a new system
- 1:14:42that they have to fill out and they have to work with, and it's
- 1:14:45a completely different process from the way they've been
- 1:14:47delivering it before. You need to step up and say
- 1:14:51until you train all of these, we can't make this live because
- 1:14:55they don't have the information to create an educated judgment
- 1:15:00on whether the system works or not.
- 1:15:03You didn't even test the system out because you haven't touched
- 1:15:07a scanner in 17 years or more. None of y'all did.
- 1:15:14But just sit there and you tell us it's our fault.
- 1:15:17It's the carrier's fault for not learning this system.
- 1:15:22I call BS on that. I call BS on the fact that you
- 1:15:26did not go out and tell every single carrier it's your
- 1:15:29stewards in the offices and tell every single carrier to do this.
- 1:15:33You had local stewards who knew more about the rec system than
- 1:15:36the local management. You had district representatives
- 1:15:42and UPS PS district representatives who knew less
- 1:15:47about the rec system than your local stewards did.
- 1:15:52But you wanna sit there and tell everybody it's it's the
- 1:15:55carrier's fault? Yeah.
- 1:15:58How is it the carrier's fault when management didn't follow
- 1:16:02postal rules and regulations? Tell me.
- 1:16:06How would? Yeah, exactly.
- 1:16:07The training falls on management.
- 1:16:09Yes, the union put out a bunch of tools.
- 1:16:13So I that's it. It's supposed to fall on
- 1:16:18management. And I remember when I
- 1:16:19transferred into my office and having come from a test to the
- 1:16:23office, so I knew it was coming. It was a matter of when and
- 1:16:27anytime that I mentioned the system or this set and another
- 1:16:31before the scanners had the update with the rural activity
- 1:16:33scans on it. Anytime I mentioned anything
- 1:16:37about it, I got looked at, even by my postmaster.
- 1:16:41And everybody else in my office like I was a three headed
- 1:16:43monster. What the hell are you talking
- 1:16:46about? Just that's my personality is
- 1:16:51not. You know, we got a comment.
- 1:16:54It would seem that since you guys are so knowledgeable and do
- 1:16:57the podcast that y'all wouldn't have many grievance problems in
- 1:17:00your offices. If that's the case, it shows we
- 1:17:03need stewards that care in every office to help keep management
- 1:17:06and check. Well, for me, I have a
- 1:17:11postmaster that believes that taking care of your carriers
- 1:17:15benefits the office, because the higher our evaluations are, the
- 1:17:19higher her office budget is. So it benefits her for us to
- 1:17:23benefit from this process. But there are a lot of
- 1:17:27management that doesn't bill your manager.
- 1:17:31My manager is afraid of his boss and the supervisors are in fear
- 1:17:37of their jobs from the postmaster who's in fear of the
- 1:17:40boom. So therefore they all operate
- 1:17:43under the basis of fear and they do what they're told, even if
- 1:17:46they know it's against the contract.
- 1:17:49And if you explain that to them that you know, the more
- 1:17:51profitable the routes are, the more profitable the office is, a
- 1:17:55KA, your pay goes up. They're not even interested,
- 1:17:58They're just trying to hold on to their jobs.
- 1:18:01So you know, I I'm envious and jealous of the people who have
- 1:18:05postmasters, supervisors who work with them and understand
- 1:18:08the craft. But I haven't seen that in 20
- 1:18:13plus years. Yeah, it's.
- 1:18:18Yeah, exactly. It's a lot of them that are in
- 1:18:20fear of their own jobs because of those above them.
- 1:18:25I mean, that's pretty similar in my office at that aspect too, is
- 1:18:29that Boom runs the show. I mean right down to stupid
- 1:18:34little. You know, calling an RCA and to
- 1:18:37do parcel assistance on a day after a holiday or something as
- 1:18:43little as my new is, Oh well, we have to get permission first.
- 1:18:48Why? You know what happened to
- 1:18:50management managing their offices?
- 1:18:55They don't manage their offices anymore.
- 1:18:57They just do as they're directed and and push it on down the line
- 1:19:02because they got poons looking at spreadsheets thinking that
- 1:19:05they control the world with those spreadsheets.
- 1:19:10I've never seen a spreadsheet drive an LLV yet.
- 1:19:17I ain't never seen a spreadsheet for management that's actually
- 1:19:20accurate. I've never seen a spreadsheet do
- 1:19:26a scam. We can say that about some
- 1:19:31people too. I yeah you only have to do 6
- 1:19:42only. They only worry about the six
- 1:19:46though. Yeah, I mean you can.
- 1:19:48You could miss an end load, or miss a start load, or
- 1:19:51accidentally hit end load instead of start load.
- 1:19:54And so then you end up with two end loads and they're like, hey,
- 1:19:58you're missing a start load. So you can do that anytime just
- 1:20:01as long as they even out really. That's what's important to you
- 1:20:05guys up up above is making sure all those six scans have a
- 1:20:10beginning and like start load and end load have a beginning
- 1:20:13and an ending and there's a clock in and a clock out and a
- 1:20:17return to unit and they depart to route.
- 1:20:20That's what's important to you guys.
- 1:20:23OK. And don't forget that it's only
- 1:20:27the rest of the scans are only important to them.
- 1:20:29When they say zero, that's when they matter to management.
- 1:20:32Anything above that and it's a problem.
- 1:20:35Right. Oh, yeah, we got that whole
- 1:20:36little spiel on. Well, don't be doing any extra
- 1:20:39scans. We're watching you, honey.
- 1:20:41My office has been good doing scans from the very beginning
- 1:20:44because I trained them and RCA. Trained them not once, but twice
- 1:20:52and still takes the time to answer questions from every
- 1:20:55single carrier when the question is asked, even though she
- 1:21:02doesn't have to. I don't have to anymore and and
- 1:21:08anytime there's a box holder and they still ask me is this box
- 1:21:13holder walking sequence letter flat?
- 1:21:15Or, you know, hey, don't forget to add these in.
- 1:21:18I'm still the one conducting everything in the damn office,
- 1:21:26and that's how it should be. US carriers should be supporting
- 1:21:29each other on this. It doesn't matter if you're a
- 1:21:32union Stewart or not. If you're the one with the
- 1:21:35knowledge, give it to your fellow carrier.
- 1:21:39Because guess what? You helped that carrier out.
- 1:21:42That's a more knowledgeable carrier and as we said time and
- 1:21:44time again, a knowledgeable carrier scares management.
- 1:21:49And if everybody in your office is not eligible, you're on
- 1:21:53management. Shouldn't be messing with you.
- 1:21:56Yeah, absolutely. And if management does, you're
- 1:21:59like Bill, you file, file, file until management finally stops.
- 1:22:08Yeah, I have another comment from one of my groups that says
- 1:22:13you rock, you say everything I say but no one listens LOL.
- 1:22:17And yes, I believe we are united in craft.
- 1:22:25It's the mole. Or at least the angle.
- 1:22:28Yes, we want to be united as a craft, The rural carrier craft
- 1:22:33we support our fellow brothers and sisters in the city.
- 1:22:36Craft the clerk, craft. The janitorial craft, VMF, the
- 1:22:40mail handlers, all of them. But the biggest one we are
- 1:22:45personally concerned about is our fellow rural carriers.
- 1:22:50The ones on the streets, the boots on the ground, the ones
- 1:22:52that scan every single day. The ones that have to deal with
- 1:22:55managerial harassment every single day, ones seeing the
- 1:22:59problems on the ground. That's what we care about.
- 1:23:03And we'll care about that until the till after we're retired.
- 1:23:07Do we support Craft mayonnaise? Now I'm a helmet for miracle.
- 1:23:18Work. Oh, Hellmann's no miracle.
- 1:23:24Work. I don't care why you need to
- 1:23:26change. Starving mostly do it deep.
- 1:23:31I did not understand a single word you said.
- 1:23:33Dude. Get the cat.
- 1:23:36Off your face. I'm outside so the cats don't
- 1:23:40hear me. I said where I live now, I got a
- 1:23:45I can't see that two level because they all support.
- 1:23:50So we we got a good question here posed there's any chance
- 1:23:54you would all ever do a podcast for new and existing stewards
- 1:23:58like Corey Walton does on from A to arbitration.
- 1:24:08We would rabbit hole, rabbit hole, we we would, but there's
- 1:24:13so much right now going on in the craft as a whole.
- 1:24:18That's more important that we get the information out for the
- 1:24:21whole craft, but that may be something we take up at a later
- 1:24:25time. But right now we want to focus
- 1:24:28on the current issues that everybody in the craft is facing
- 1:24:32because I believe that getting the craft more educated on this
- 1:24:38stuff is more important than getting into specifics like
- 1:24:45steward systems and things like that.
- 1:24:48Plus on top of that, our National Board does do their
- 1:24:50once monthly steward zoom, not training, training.
- 1:24:56So you do have that outlet as a steward, at least, but a lot of
- 1:25:03the stuff we talk about is stuff that stewards should know or
- 1:25:07need to learn, because these are issues that every carrier's
- 1:25:11facing and the stewards are going to have to deal with in a
- 1:25:14grievance. Form and just like we do this
- 1:25:17podcast at on our own time, our free will.
- 1:25:21I mean, as a steward, you know, I've taken calls on Sundays,
- 1:25:25Saturdays, on vacation away from home.
- 1:25:30You know, there's no hours to it in regards to, you know,
- 1:25:34protecting my office. So if you don't put it in your
- 1:25:38your time, your due diligence and and you know, read up and
- 1:25:41study, you're not going to improve just by us pointing you
- 1:25:45in the direction. You have to do some of it on
- 1:25:47your own and I know you won't get paid for it, but that's the
- 1:25:51price of being of service. There's a part time ADRI talked
- 1:25:58to that not only works his route, but does 100 hours a week
- 1:26:03of steward service, 100 hours a week on top of his regular
- 1:26:08route. So he's working 140 hours a week
- 1:26:12minimum just to take care of the craft.
- 1:26:16That's passion right there. That's passion for the craft.
- 1:26:20That's that's dedication. That is definitely dedication,
- 1:26:25caring for your fellow rural carriers right there.
- 1:26:28And I will use him as my talking point of how our craft should be
- 1:26:33handled. It's and it's his passion is the
- 1:26:38rural carriers. I have yet to see more people
- 1:26:43have a passion than that, even us on this podcast.
- 1:26:48No offense guys. I don't think we can compete
- 1:26:51with that. I say that.
- 1:26:56That's more than he should be because of the fact that he
- 1:27:06shouldn't have that much of A workload that he has 100 hours a
- 1:27:09week of stewards on. I I agree.
- 1:27:13I agree. But a lot of that is there
- 1:27:19aren't local stewards in his area.
- 1:27:21And so if you're in an office that doesn't have a local
- 1:27:24steward, Beth up, take the work off of the Adr's and the area
- 1:27:28stewards because those guys do. Some of those guys are working
- 1:27:32their butts off for the craft and they could use your help.
- 1:27:36All right, guys, we're going to wind this one down for tonight.
- 1:27:40Yep, it's already just past 9:00 Eastern Time.
- 1:27:44So Josh, last words, thoughts for the evening?
- 1:27:49Count over. Everyone can exhale now.
- 1:27:53It'll probably be a minimum of two weeks out what the results
- 1:27:59are and three left, right. Don't get overwhelmed.
- 1:28:06If you need, take a step back. Take a deep breath.
- 1:28:09Step back in. Have a good week.
- 1:28:12Catch you next time. James, your last final words for
- 1:28:18this evening. We have a very, very passionate
- 1:28:23group of people here and I'm sure it shows.
- 1:28:29And we hope that this passion that we have reflects in how you
- 1:28:34approach your job as a rural carrier, as you approach your
- 1:28:37craft, and if you have the passion to take care of the
- 1:28:42craft, please step up. Help your fellow carriers.
- 1:28:46If you feel the the urge to run for local steward, go for it.
- 1:28:52Knowledgeable carriers are what we need in this craft and you
- 1:28:56guys listening to us is the start of that.
- 1:28:59And then talking with your designated union Rep and finding
- 1:29:03out what the union says on these things and what the union
- 1:29:07policies and procedures are for this.
- 1:29:10Talk with them. Get information.
- 1:29:13Information is your best friend. So I hope you guys all have a
- 1:29:17good week out there. Don't get over stressed.
- 1:29:21If you start feeling overheated, take a breather, take a break
- 1:29:24because it's still warm out there in a lot of places.
- 1:29:28The Hurricane Lee is going to pass off the coast so far, at
- 1:29:32least according to forecast. So if you're on the coastal
- 1:29:35water areas, be aware of the high waves that may occur and
- 1:29:41we'll see you guys next week. OK, Bill.
- 1:29:49Oh. Well, the the stressful part of
- 1:29:53the minimail survey is over. Now the anticipation begins
- 1:29:56waiting to find out what your valuations are going to be.
- 1:29:59Contrary to James, I believe we're going to have minimal
- 1:30:03influence in regards to the 66% who lost last time.
- 1:30:08The next big one I I believe will be in in 2024 when the
- 1:30:13numbers from the FSS dissolving the FSS.
- 1:30:17Comes off of our yearly average. So that one I think is going to
- 1:30:22be really fun because that'll affect my office and we went up
- 1:30:28substantially when we got rid of FSS.
- 1:30:30So I expect the reoccurring theme to be an appropriate drop
- 1:30:36to the FSS. What do you call it?
- 1:30:40Dissolution of it the FSS. Don't sign the slippers.
- 1:30:44If you have anything that you're going to dispute you know don't.
- 1:30:48Don't even write on them. This is my personal opinion.
- 1:30:52I'm not going to a select high or low option based on an
- 1:30:56evaluation. I don't know what it is, and I'm
- 1:31:01not going to cooperate with management in any such fashion
- 1:31:04until they can prove all the numbers that they're posting on
- 1:31:07the mini Mail survey. It it's ridiculous to to sign
- 1:31:12anything that you cannot prove and they cannot prove.
- 1:31:16So everybody just go out and you know, do the jobs the way you're
- 1:31:20supposed to, the way you have been doing them, doing
- 1:31:23correctly, doing to the best of your ability.
- 1:31:25Be safe out there and every day at the end of the shift, go home
- 1:31:29to your loved ones because you're the most important
- 1:31:32delivery of the day. Absolutely.
- 1:31:37Thank you guys. Yeah, everybody be safe out
- 1:31:41there this week. I'm just running 1 route right
- 1:31:45now. Unless I have to throw my aux
- 1:31:47route in there six days a week, nothing much is going to change
- 1:31:52at this point for me. I'm holding down the route that
- 1:31:55I'll eventually take over. Just got to wait for it to come
- 1:31:58up, forbid. But yeah, everybody stay safe
- 1:32:02out there this week. Don't forget file, file, file
- 1:32:06when necessary. And take care of each other and
- 1:32:10we'll see you back next week.
