- 0:00Speaker 1: There comes a time when you're in the wine store
- 0:02Speaker 1: and not sure what to buy. Well, this next sponsor
- 0:06Speaker 1: has you covered. It's the Saint Elder Elderflower. Mmmm, the flower,
- 0:12Speaker 1: the floral honeysuckle, tasty treat. It's great with anything bubbly,
- 0:16Speaker 1: to add to your favorite clear spirit or on its own.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Get the Saint Elder Elderflower liqueur in your local wine
- 0:21Speaker 1: store today. Oh tell them. Jimmy the wine guy.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Sentia that every liquor store employee knows Jimmy's name.
- 0:30Speaker 3: Well, they do, they do. Look at this.
- 0:32Speaker 4: This is delightful. It's got a spring in it. This spritzer.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Well, here he is, ladies and gentlemen, the ass kicker
- 0:39Speaker 2: of the Wine Academy of Utah, Wine Academy of Utah
- 0:43Speaker 2: dot com. It's Jimmy Santangelo. What are what are the
- 0:46Speaker 2: little what's the greenery.
- 0:48Speaker 4: That we have?
- 0:49Speaker 5: Green?
- 0:49Speaker 3: Looks?
- 0:49Speaker 4: It looks got some mint. It's got some mint and lime.
- 0:53Speaker 4: This is the Hugo Spritzer.
- 0:55Speaker 3: Uh.
- 0:55Speaker 4: This is the Saint Elder Elderflower liquor. New packaging. Actually
- 1:00Speaker 4: little number right here, very florals. Gina mentioned a lot
- 1:04Speaker 4: of just beautiful perfume aromatics, very floral. I wouldn't blame
- 1:11Speaker 4: you if you took a little bit of this, tapped
- 1:13Speaker 4: it behind your neck and on your wrists. It's that
- 1:15Speaker 4: perfumeing it is. It's a nice twenty percent alcohol by volume.
- 1:19Speaker 4: Fire call correctly here, I'll take a look yet twenty
- 1:22Speaker 4: percent or forty proof, and then we floated it with
- 1:26Speaker 4: a bit of prosecco. One of my favorite bubblies out
- 1:29Speaker 4: of Italy. This is a Dommies Bosca, the Geeka. This
- 1:34Speaker 4: is a fantastic out of the Velderbiadini winegord region. It's
- 1:38Speaker 4: only like twenty bucks itself, twenty two bucks, but I
- 1:42Speaker 4: just love a spritzer. You know, in the morning, it's
- 1:44Speaker 4: a very refreshing daytime mourning beverrinch. And you know when
- 1:51Speaker 4: you have brunch, if you have folks coming over Sunday
- 1:54Speaker 4: brunch as the weather's winding down. This is a little
- 1:57Speaker 4: It's not as sharp as some spirits or is bitter.
- 2:01Speaker 4: It's a bit more floral, bit more round, a little
- 2:03Speaker 4: bit off dryness happening here on your palate, complimented with
- 2:07Speaker 4: some mint in line. No sprits can be a little sharp,
- 2:12Speaker 4: not to put you on the spot.
- 2:14Speaker 3: But why is who is Hugo? Why is it called
- 2:16Speaker 3: the Huge?
- 2:17Speaker 4: This is a bartender out of Italy and this is
- 2:20Speaker 4: similar to the Valachina if I recall correctly, similar cocktail
- 2:27Speaker 4: to that where Hugo added the mint and lime for this.
- 2:31Speaker 4: Excuse me, I'm a little congested. I don't know if
- 2:34Speaker 4: you can hear it. But the Hugo sprits what I
- 2:37Speaker 4: foregoed on this though, was soda water classic apertivo sprits.
- 2:43Speaker 4: Actually both, yeah, you have both double bubbly and my
- 2:51Speaker 4: opinion on why that happened although I cannot find this,
- 2:54Speaker 4: but as being a hospitality professional, well sometimes what happens
- 2:58Speaker 4: in a restaurant or bar to your your sparkling wine.
- 3:00Speaker 4: The next day or two days later, you go, so
- 3:03Speaker 4: you still got the beautiful flavor, but the bubbles are gone.
- 3:06Speaker 3: So you got yeah, yeah, that's an opinion.
- 3:11Speaker 4: Your speculations.
- 3:12Speaker 3: I bet it's right. It just seems unnecessary, you know.
- 3:16Speaker 4: Yeah, well I get rid of this delicious bubblely but
- 3:19Speaker 4: this is this is good?
- 3:22Speaker 3: So the now this is the elderflower. What is it?
- 3:28Speaker 4: Sat? Elder elderflower. This is from the States, all natural ingredients.
- 3:33Speaker 4: They do a really good job with the preparation of
- 3:36Speaker 4: this product.
- 3:37Speaker 1: A Boston family.
- 3:39Speaker 4: Yeah, it's out of Boston. It's MS Walker. They're a
- 3:42Speaker 4: natural distributor. They've been distributing alcohol, uh since before Prohibition
- 3:47Speaker 4: and during that south side of Boston. Yeah, it's great family.
- 3:54Speaker 3: Brian over there, you.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Said that I I have, you know, I drink old
- 3:57Speaker 2: Forest or a bourbon. But I've never really taken time
- 3:59Speaker 2: to look look at the label and it says it
- 4:03Speaker 2: was a America's first bottled.
- 4:05Speaker 3: Whiskey before and during Prohibition.
- 4:09Speaker 2: It was so it was sold They allowed them to
- 4:11Speaker 2: sell it during prohibition as because it was a medicine.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Oh, it's my medicine, right.
- 4:18Speaker 3: I've always called it old medicine.
- 4:22Speaker 4: Medicine.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Now, this is what's kind of an embarrassment of riches
- 4:26Speaker 2: because you can have your choice of elderflower liqueurs right there.
- 4:30Speaker 3: There's more than one there is.
- 4:32Speaker 4: There's a classic one that comes in at quite a
- 4:35Speaker 4: higher price than this. This is for twenty two bucks.
- 4:40Speaker 3: So that's the one you want. This is the one
- 4:41Speaker 3: you want.
- 4:42Speaker 4: It does the job American made right here. MS Walker
- 4:46Speaker 4: is the distributor out of Boston, local broker bringing this
- 4:49Speaker 4: in fighting tooth and claw, making sure it's listed for
- 4:53Speaker 4: you on the shelves here in the state. Whether you're
- 4:57Speaker 4: a bar, this is the one you want to go with.
- 4:59Speaker 4: But at home, I love this stuff. I've got the
- 5:02Speaker 4: original bottle. It was a bit more decorative, but I
- 5:04Speaker 4: like this slender and sleek like this. I really like
- 5:08Speaker 4: the label. Yeah, the label is really quite nice. And
- 5:11Speaker 4: what are some other drinks you can do with? Yeah,
- 5:14Speaker 4: so you know, if you want to do spruce up
- 5:17Speaker 4: of French seventy five, this goes really well with that.
- 5:21Speaker 4: So a little gin, you know, all the aromatics and
- 5:24Speaker 4: botanicals of a gin, and this with sparkling wine also
- 5:28Speaker 4: go really well together. And that's kind of my go
- 5:31Speaker 4: to one that I really like with Elder Saint Elder elderflower.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Of the course, my wife likes one and I can't
- 5:37Speaker 2: think of what it's called, but I think it's got
- 5:39Speaker 2: grapefruit juice and elderflower liqueur.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Hmm.
- 5:42Speaker 4: Sounds delicious. You know, the acidity, what you want to
- 5:45Speaker 4: add to this is some good acidity, and that's where
- 5:47Speaker 4: the lime comes in. With this. You have acid from
- 5:50Speaker 4: your sparkling wine that's very acidic to bubbles. The carbonic
- 5:53Speaker 4: nature of it.
- 5:54Speaker 3: That's what it is. It's a prosecco.
- 5:57Speaker 4: Grapefruit juice and elderflower. Sounds fantastic. It'll this is your
- 6:02Speaker 4: new brunch cocktail for go mimosa. You kick it up
- 6:06Speaker 4: a notch and you can even add a little bit
- 6:08Speaker 4: more boost to it should you wish. But this is
- 6:10Speaker 4: very pleasant at eight am, so absolutely yeah.
- 6:15Speaker 3: Yeah, but mimosas are for chumps.
- 6:18Speaker 4: Child's play.
- 6:19Speaker 1: My seventeen year old son Mohammed, Yes, had a question.
- 6:24Speaker 3: Ah, very good.
- 6:26Speaker 1: He saw somewhere where the word proof comes from proof.
- 6:31Speaker 4: Yes, it's a proof off of the alcohol spirit off
- 6:35Speaker 4: the still. There's a barometer there, there's a flotation device
- 6:39Speaker 4: that tells you the amount of alcohol.
- 6:43Speaker 3: And it's the proof.
- 6:44Speaker 4: You're proving the spirit's range of alcohol that's in there.
- 6:49Speaker 1: But is there a story about why it's called the proof?
- 6:52Speaker 4: So there's a proof box. There is this box in
- 6:55Speaker 4: England that the taxman would come by and he would
- 6:59Speaker 4: see and it would measure your your proving that you
- 7:03Speaker 4: have alcohol. It's not water, it's not water or that
- 7:08Speaker 4: right that you are. In fact, it's a taxation thing.
- 7:12Speaker 4: It all comes down to the government tax tax man.
- 7:16Speaker 4: But that's roughly the story behind it. Yeah, great question,
- 7:21Speaker 4: that's a good question.
- 7:22Speaker 1: This is where my family talks about it at the
- 7:24Speaker 1: dinner table.
- 7:25Speaker 2: And then you have to slap his hand and say, no,
- 7:28Speaker 2: you're not old enough for mommy's drink question for Jimmy.
- 7:32Speaker 5: We're headed to Bologna to see radio Head in November.
- 7:37Speaker 5: We aren't really wine people, more tequila and vodka. Can
- 7:40Speaker 5: you give us some lighter wines, less robust that we
- 7:43Speaker 5: can order. Sure, some Italian cocktails maybe that we.
- 7:46Speaker 4: Want to, Yeah, new Groni, although that might be kind
- 7:48Speaker 4: of strong and appartibo, something that we're enjoying right now.
- 7:51Speaker 4: You'll have the Cappelletti, which is a red, bitter Italian.
- 7:58Speaker 4: We love that Capelleti, and and some lighter wines would
- 8:01Speaker 4: be some lighter bodied red wines look for with a
- 8:03Speaker 4: v Valpolicella and that's from the northern area. But you know,
- 8:09Speaker 4: the best thing I find when I go to places
- 8:12Speaker 4: is at the cafes or at the House White or
- 8:15Speaker 4: House read. You cannot go wrong, and it'll be the
- 8:20Speaker 4: best experience you'll have when you're there and have fun
- 8:22Speaker 4: at Radiohead, that's going to be a killer councerpt The
- 8:25Speaker 4: House White, The House White, I like it.
