- 0:07Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Schreeger is a production of the
- 0:09Speaker 1: NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio. What's Up, Everybody, Welcome to
- 0:23Speaker 1: the Season with Peter Schreger. I am Peter Schreeger. I
- 0:27Speaker 1: am the hosts of Good Morning Football on the NFL Network.
- 0:29Speaker 1: You can also read my stuff over at Fox sports
- 0:32Speaker 1: dot com and you can see me on Sundays on
- 0:35Speaker 1: Fox NFL Kickoff. But today, as I record this on
- 0:38Speaker 1: a Thursday morning in glorious New York City, I identify
- 0:42Speaker 1: as a New York sports fan. I am telling you
- 0:45Speaker 1: I am walking through the streets this morning, just mere
- 0:48Speaker 1: hours after the Yankees beat the Royals in a Big
- 0:52Speaker 1: Game three in Kansas City, the Mets eliminated the Phillies
- 0:57Speaker 1: in a Big Game four in City Field, and whereas
- 1:01Speaker 1: the New York Liberty are suiting up tonight to take
- 1:04Speaker 1: on the Minnesota Links in a WNBA five Finals match. Oh,
- 1:07Speaker 1: by the way, the Knicks won a preseason game. The
- 1:10Speaker 1: Rangers are hot in the preseason, and everything is coming
- 1:13Speaker 1: up New York. Except there's one team that is still
- 1:17Speaker 1: dominating the back pages, and that's the New York Jets.
- 1:21Speaker 1: And I'm going to talk a little bit about the
- 1:23Speaker 1: last seventy two hours in New York. I did an
- 1:26Speaker 1: emergency podcast in your feed day it happened, but Robert
- 1:29Speaker 1: Sala was fired rather abruptly Tuesday morning, and with forty
- 1:33Speaker 1: eight hours more for me to do my work as
- 1:36Speaker 1: a reporter and digest and put on that hat, I
- 1:39Speaker 1: can share with you some interesting details. Woody Johnson, the
- 1:42Speaker 1: ambassador was not happy after the game in London, and
- 1:47Speaker 1: yes there were talks on the flight back as to
- 1:49Speaker 1: whether it was time to rip off the band aid
- 1:52Speaker 1: and dispose of Robert Sala and maybe make some different
- 1:57Speaker 1: wholesale changes. What those are I don't know. As Monday began,
- 2:01Speaker 1: everybody got into the building and looking over their shoulders,
- 2:05Speaker 1: are we good? Are fine? Started working on a game plan.
- 2:08Speaker 1: But the big change was Robert Sala was going to
- 2:12Speaker 1: remove play calling duties from Nathaniel Hackett to Todd Downing
- 2:17Speaker 1: that was shared with Hackett. Hackett was understanding. He said,
- 2:20Speaker 1: I will do whatever is necessary for this team. I
- 2:22Speaker 1: have no ego. I will take a back seat. Am
- 2:24Speaker 1: I still employed? Yes, you're still employed. We're good. Hackett
- 2:27Speaker 1: not getting fired. The big change this week was going
- 2:29Speaker 1: to be play calling duties. Aaron Rodgers went on Pat
- 2:34Speaker 1: McAfee and revealed he did speak with the owner, Woody Johnson,
- 2:39Speaker 1: on a phone Monday night, but it was more about
- 2:40Speaker 1: how you're doing, how's your ankle? It wasn't so much
- 2:43Speaker 1: about should we fire Robert Sala. In fact, I take
- 2:47Speaker 1: Rogers on his word on this, and it's everything that
- 2:49Speaker 1: I heard. That idea was not suggested to Rodgers, and
- 2:52Speaker 1: from what I gather, whether or not it was done
- 2:55Speaker 1: so with the read between the lines or body language
- 2:58Speaker 1: or whatever. Rogers was not the judge, the jury and
- 3:01Speaker 1: the executioner on this one Tuesday morning. Everyone got to
- 3:04Speaker 1: the building, this is going to be rolled to the team,
- 3:07Speaker 1: and in a grander fashion that this was going to
- 3:09Speaker 1: be Todd Downing now calling the place for the New
- 3:11Speaker 1: York Jets. And instead of them just turning the page
- 3:13Speaker 1: and looking towards the Buffalo Bills, the bomb was dropped.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Robert Sala, after four years as head coach of the
- 3:18Speaker 1: New York Jets, was fired, and he takes his twenty
- 3:22Speaker 1: and thirty six regular Susan record with him and he
- 3:26Speaker 1: goes with some great shock within the building. Hackett was shocked.
- 3:31Speaker 1: I could tell you that multiple coaches were shocked, and
- 3:35Speaker 1: I again will tell you that this reverberated throughout the
- 3:38Speaker 1: team as well. You heard Tyler Conklin say that he
- 3:41Speaker 1: was shocked, and the tight end said that Aaron Rodgers
- 3:43Speaker 1: was as torn up by anybody. They love Robert sala
- 3:45Speaker 1: that's kind of the aside. Here. Sala, as you may
- 3:48Speaker 1: or may not know, has nine children living in the
- 3:50Speaker 1: New Jersey area. He is a good man, and people
- 3:54Speaker 1: roll their eyes say, I don't want to hear about
- 3:56Speaker 1: what a good guy is. Can he coach football or not?
- 3:58Speaker 1: You're making millions of dollars. I get it. He can
- 4:01Speaker 1: coach football. He's a really good coach, and I think
- 4:03Speaker 1: he might have another shot of being a head coach
- 4:05Speaker 1: where he can redeem himself. But at the end of
- 4:06Speaker 1: the day, the scoreboard wasn't what it was in the
- 4:10Speaker 1: eyes of what the Jets ownership thought it should be.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Two and three after two bad losses, one of them
- 4:15Speaker 1: in the rain against the Broncos and one of them
- 4:18Speaker 1: overseas was just a road that the Jets ownership felt
- 4:21Speaker 1: like had gone the distance and they weren't going to
- 4:24Speaker 1: be able to turn it around as they saw fit.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Now They did this move with the desire to kick
- 4:32Speaker 1: start this franchise, to light a fire under everybody's you
- 4:37Speaker 1: know what, and to see if Jeff Olbrick known as
- 4:40Speaker 1: Breck in the building, a former player and a very
- 4:42Speaker 1: good defensive coach, can get this team back on track
- 4:46Speaker 1: and save the season, and it might not take much.
- 4:49Speaker 1: The Jets play the Bills on Monday night. If they
- 4:51Speaker 1: win that game against the Bills, they will be three
- 4:53Speaker 1: and three and they will be at the very least
- 4:55Speaker 1: tied for first place in the division. Move on beyond that,
- 5:00Speaker 1: they have ten games on the East Coast coming up,
- 5:02Speaker 1: meaning they're not going to be flying all over to
- 5:04Speaker 1: London to San Francisco, to Nashville and everywhere in between,
- 5:07Speaker 1: with short weeks, long weeks, pretty much standard games and
- 5:10Speaker 1: that one o'clock window, all of them up and down
- 5:12Speaker 1: the Eastern Seaboard. They also have the fifth easiest schedule
- 5:15Speaker 1: left per sports Radar and all the different Elias Sports
- 5:19Speaker 1: Bureau numbers that have been crunched. I don't want to
- 5:22Speaker 1: say that this is a winnable game, but if you
- 5:25Speaker 1: look at Buffalo, this is one that I think Jets fans,
- 5:29Speaker 1: despite being seven point underdogs and everything know that they
- 5:32Speaker 1: can take. They've beaten the Bills in this building before.
- 5:34Speaker 1: They did it last year when Rogers went down in
- 5:36Speaker 1: Week one, and they have beaten them in years prior
- 5:38Speaker 1: as well. With Josh Allen having had scratching games, the
- 5:42Speaker 1: Jets defense is still one of the best in football.
- 5:44Speaker 1: And Olbrich now takes over as the head coach, and
- 5:47Speaker 1: on Thursday, two days removed from the news of the firing,
- 5:51Speaker 1: he came out and publicly announced that Todd Downing will
- 5:54Speaker 1: be calling the offense. Counting we'll see. He took over
- 5:58Speaker 1: in Tennessee and was a fine offensive coordinator there when
- 6:03Speaker 1: Arthur Smith was the head coach for a few years
- 6:06Speaker 1: there in Nashville, his tenure ended unceremoniously with an incident
- 6:12Speaker 1: that he regrets and has been paying for ever since.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Now he gets another opportunity for redemption himself. Jets are
- 6:19Speaker 1: such an interesting story. I had them as the number
- 6:22Speaker 1: one team in the AFC before the season started. I
- 6:25Speaker 1: have Rogers as my MVP. None of that is true
- 6:27Speaker 1: right now. And yet as we turn the page and
- 6:31Speaker 1: we head towards the weekend, it seems like there's still
- 6:34Speaker 1: a chance, and there's still is a glimmer of hope,
- 6:37Speaker 1: and there's still is a path Morgan Moses is going
- 6:39Speaker 1: to return, and you run Brice Hall and Brayln Allen
- 6:42Speaker 1: behind that offensive line with Elijah Vera Tucker and now
- 6:45Speaker 1: Morgan Moses right there upright, there's a chance. Monday Night's
- 6:50Speaker 1: going to be fascinating. And I think that Aaron Rodgers
- 6:53Speaker 1: is going to come out hair on fire and hopefully
- 6:56Speaker 1: looking to salvage this season for the New York Jets.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Robert Salad is gone. This was a shocker within the building,
- 7:04Speaker 1: and yet as we fast forward forty hours, we learn
- 7:07Speaker 1: not only does the world continue to spin, and not
- 7:11Speaker 1: only the Jets fans turn the page and say, okay,
- 7:13Speaker 1: what's next? New York sports fans have a lot going
- 7:17Speaker 1: on and if they don't win, and if they fade
- 7:19Speaker 1: away Jets fans, well, they've got these other squads that
- 7:22Speaker 1: they're leaning on. The Mets, the Yankees were a couple
- 7:25Speaker 1: games away, a couple wins away from a Subway series,
- 7:29Speaker 1: and the Jets, though they've dominated the headlines, they might
- 7:32Speaker 1: take a back seat if they don't figure this thing
- 7:34Speaker 1: out pretty soon. With no further ado, I want to
- 7:37Speaker 1: bring on our guest, because whereas Bill's Jets is a
- 7:40Speaker 1: fascinating game, I think the game of the week is
- 7:43Speaker 1: being played in Baltimore. It's Sunday, it's Commanders versus Ravens.
- 7:48Speaker 1: It has been hyped as the Battle of the Beltway.
- 7:50Speaker 1: CBS is sending their number one crew there in Jim
- 7:52Speaker 1: Nantz and Tony Romo. And yet despite all this talk
- 7:57Speaker 1: all this week about it being this great rivalry and
- 7:59Speaker 1: this being, you know, a geographic war and a battle
- 8:02Speaker 1: for land and fans, I don't know if I can
- 8:05Speaker 1: get there on that. So I'm bringing in Scott Van
- 8:07Speaker 1: Pelt as our guest to talk about the Ravens Commander's
- 8:12Speaker 1: game and more specifically, is this a rivalry or not.
- 8:17Speaker 1: We'll get to Scott into this. One of my favorite
- 8:30Speaker 1: people in sports media, also one of the best at
- 8:33Speaker 1: what he does both on Sports Center and now is
- 8:35Speaker 1: the Monday night football studio show host, which I think
- 8:38Speaker 1: is as good as anybody manning that desk, and he's
- 8:41Speaker 1: doing such a wonderful job in the glow up of
- 8:43Speaker 1: Monday night football in the last few years. But more
- 8:46Speaker 1: than anything, this guy represents a geographical area in this
- 8:50Speaker 1: country that I had to hit on with this Commander's
- 8:54Speaker 1: Ravens battle with no further ado. Svp mi'ster Scott Van Pelt.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Welcome to the season with Peter Shaker.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Peter, thank you. I appreciate this question by a text
- 9:04Speaker 2: was it's really really interesting thing. I'll let you explain
- 9:07Speaker 2: that sort of what it is you're trying to get to,
- 9:10Speaker 2: and then I'll try not to be long winded. But
- 9:12Speaker 2: there's a lot of layers to this.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Yeah. So I think for the listeners and viewers of
- 9:19Speaker 1: football who don't live in that market, they see Commanders
- 9:23Speaker 1: versus Ravens and they say, oh, backyard brawl, and there's
- 9:26Speaker 1: years and years of history to that, and those two
- 9:29Speaker 1: franchises and their fans hate each other. But I've been
- 9:32Speaker 1: watching football since the eighties. I also am married to
- 9:35Speaker 1: a girl from Pikesville, Maryland whose family is Baltimore's sports
- 9:39Speaker 1: through and through, and my father in law was a
- 9:42Speaker 1: Colts fan forever. They moved the team and then adopted
- 9:46Speaker 1: the Ravens. And I brought up, what do you make
- 9:49Speaker 1: of like redskinstin Commanders and he's like, well, they're there,
- 9:52Speaker 1: but it's not like this hated robbery like the Steelers
- 9:55Speaker 1: and the Colts, And yet I talked to other fans
- 9:58Speaker 1: of the Ravens and like, oh, we absolutely freaking hate
- 10:01Speaker 1: the Commanders and we hate the fact that they think
- 10:03Speaker 1: that there are something in our market. And there's all
- 10:05Speaker 1: these geographical jerry mandering lines to it, and I'm like,
- 10:08Speaker 1: I texted you last night, I'm like, can we just
- 10:10Speaker 1: get to the bottom of this, Like, is this a rivalry?
- 10:13Speaker 1: Is it not a rivalry? Is it a budding rivalry?
- 10:16Speaker 1: Tell us where you grew up, where your fan allegiances were,
- 10:19Speaker 1: and then like what to make of this being described
- 10:21Speaker 1: by the Battle of the Built Way, But like they've
- 10:23Speaker 1: only played seven times in franchise history.
- 10:26Speaker 2: It's not a thing. It's not even a little bit
- 10:30Speaker 2: of a thing. And I think there are a lot
- 10:32Speaker 2: of reasons why, and for the people that are listening
- 10:34Speaker 2: to this, if they're in Los Angeles or Chicago or
- 10:38Speaker 2: Dallas or whatever, Like if you just look at the map.
- 10:41Speaker 2: I always wondered, I don't have any insecurity about this,
- 10:43Speaker 2: because I don't care if you do or you don't.
- 10:45Speaker 2: But if you ask somebody out in Portland, Organ, he
- 10:47Speaker 2: can you know where Maryland is on the map? Like
- 10:48Speaker 2: I don't know. It's over there somewhere, like you know
- 10:50Speaker 2: what I mean, Like I don't even know if we're
- 10:52Speaker 2: kind of a weird shape. And there's anyway if you
- 10:55Speaker 2: put pins on a map and you put Baltimore and Washington,
- 10:58Speaker 2: they're real close. And so to your point, you're like, man,
- 11:02Speaker 2: they got some history there. Not really, not really. And
- 11:06Speaker 2: from a geographic standpoint, this area where I live, Okay,
- 11:09Speaker 2: I live very close to Washington, d C. Just in
- 11:13Speaker 2: the suburb outside of it. The area they call the
- 11:15Speaker 2: DMV meaning District Maryland and Virginia, and it does not
- 11:20Speaker 2: include Baltimore, and Baltimore is just fine with that. They're like,
- 11:23Speaker 2: we don't need We're not part of that, we don't
- 11:25Speaker 2: wish to be. They're their own thing. And when I
- 11:30Speaker 2: was young, all right, I'm an Orioles fan. But that's
- 11:32Speaker 2: because I was too young for the Senators but too
- 11:35Speaker 2: old for the Nationals, and so there was no baseball here. Well,
- 11:39Speaker 2: sure there was. It was in Baltimore. That was a drive.
- 11:41Speaker 2: But what do I care. I'm a little kid. We
- 11:43Speaker 2: go to Memorial Stadium. I was an oriol fan, still
- 11:46Speaker 2: am an Oriole fan. Right, I reached a point where
- 11:49Speaker 2: they were really bad, and then that's were really good.
- 11:52Speaker 2: And if I wanted to, I suppose I could have
- 11:54Speaker 2: just put on a new hat. But I don't know
- 11:56Speaker 2: how you land with this, Peter. I'm an adult. It
- 11:58Speaker 2: can't wait up one day and just put on a
- 12:00Speaker 2: new hat. That's not how well this stuff works. Man.
- 12:03Speaker 2: That's who you root for. I know Steve Busha, and
- 12:06Speaker 2: he's joked with me. I think he might be a
- 12:08Speaker 2: little bit serious. He's like, look, we got enough room
- 12:10Speaker 2: for you up here if you want to, you know,
- 12:11Speaker 2: switch allegiances and be a raven fan like Steeve. I
- 12:14Speaker 2: admire your organization and you and how you guys do stuff.
- 12:17Speaker 2: I think you're one of the model franchises. I can't
- 12:20Speaker 2: do that. I gotta stay true to my team. And
- 12:25Speaker 2: I think there is no Washington. I shouldn't say that.
- 12:29Speaker 2: Maybe there are people, maybe this generation, because Washington people
- 12:33Speaker 2: has been so bad for so long. You could have
- 12:36Speaker 2: done the same thing I did with the Orioles, which
- 12:38Speaker 2: is just sort of adopt that team up there. It
- 12:40Speaker 2: would have been a hell of a lot easier to
- 12:42Speaker 2: root for them. Recently, they've been really good and Washington
- 12:44Speaker 2: has been really bad. But you made the point about
- 12:47Speaker 2: how how they haven't played very often. I think Washington
- 12:51Speaker 2: people feel like they don't even acknowledge Baltimore. Baltimore people
- 12:54Speaker 2: probably have a little bit of like.
- 12:58Speaker 1: Just one is an inferiority. But there's this like, all right,
- 13:01Speaker 1: big DC shiny, we're blue collar, you know, Baltimore we
- 13:05Speaker 1: work on the docks.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Yes, And if Baltimore people feel like there's an there's
- 13:09Speaker 2: an inferiority of complex from DC people, that's that's well,
- 13:13Speaker 2: that's well earned rep. And so if Baltimore people have
- 13:16Speaker 2: a little bit of rephew, I don't blame them. And
- 13:19Speaker 2: that's always not kind of how I perceived it. But
- 13:21Speaker 2: like I remember once as a little kid, It's a
- 13:24Speaker 2: Monday night football game. It it was Colts Redskins, and there
- 13:27Speaker 2: was a friend that asked me if I wanted to go,
- 13:29Speaker 2: but they were Colts fans and they're like, listen, I
- 13:31Speaker 2: don't wear any Redskins stuff. So I didn't and it
- 13:34Speaker 2: but it wasn't like I felt some hostility or whatever else.
- 13:37Speaker 2: It was just like they And that was enduring an
- 13:40Speaker 2: era one when Baltimore had like Burt Jones and they
- 13:42Speaker 2: were good and they were they were close, but they
- 13:44Speaker 2: could never quite get over the hump. They had great
- 13:47Speaker 2: Raiders teams and great Steelers teams in that era. It
- 13:50Speaker 2: was hard anyway, There's there's a lot of just we
- 13:55Speaker 2: keep to ourselves. You keep to yourselves, and we really don't.
- 13:58Speaker 2: We don't mix much. But I think there's more to it,
- 14:00Speaker 2: and I think really would have Wills down to is that.
- 14:03Speaker 2: I believe the NFC East and I don't think there's
- 14:06Speaker 2: an R even otherwise. It's the best division in the
- 14:08Speaker 2: history of football. Every single team. Every single team has
- 14:12Speaker 2: been to multiple Super Bowls. Every team has won multiple
- 14:16Speaker 2: Super Bowls at least three, except for Philly, who has
- 14:19Speaker 2: the one. But they've got the one. So there's enough
- 14:22Speaker 2: hate Washington. People hate Dallas first, Yep, they certainly have
- 14:27Speaker 2: hate for the Giants, and they the Philly thing. There's
- 14:31Speaker 2: it's like, yeah, f you too. But that was never
- 14:35Speaker 2: at least for me when I was little, was always Dallas,
- 14:37Speaker 2: but then Washington, New York. There's plenty of hate there
- 14:40Speaker 2: because rivalries, Peter have to be we take something from
- 14:43Speaker 2: you that matters, and we prevent you from getting to
- 14:46Speaker 2: something you want to get to. That's the only way
- 14:49Speaker 2: rivalries are real. It can't just be we hate you,
- 14:52Speaker 2: and do we have some inferiority complex because we wish
- 14:55Speaker 2: we were you and we're not. That's not a rivalry.
- 14:57Speaker 2: That's that's just hate. Rivalries are born out of Pittsburgh Baltimore.
- 15:03Speaker 2: That's a rivalry and that's who Baltimore has. So I'm
- 15:06Speaker 2: rambling now, but.
- 15:08Speaker 1: I'm not nailed it because I'm I'm on the NFL
- 15:11Speaker 1: network and we're calling it the Battle of the Beltway
- 15:13Speaker 1: and we're showing these and it's like, oh, you know,
- 15:15Speaker 1: geographical lines are drawn, take us through the history of it,
- 15:18Speaker 1: so without dating yourself, the culture of the team. They
- 15:21Speaker 1: do the Mayfiler, they move out in eighty three, the
- 15:24Speaker 1: Redskins remain, they win, you know, all those Super Bowls
- 15:27Speaker 1: in the time, you know, between John Riggins and then
- 15:29Speaker 1: Mark Rippen and Doug Williams, and then the Ravens pop
- 15:32Speaker 1: back into the scene in ninety six. So there's this
- 15:35Speaker 1: like weird gap where there was no Baltimore football team,
- 15:39Speaker 1: and I think an entire generation of you know, that
- 15:42Speaker 1: region didn't even have to make a decision, right, No,
- 15:45Speaker 1: it's true, and and that that would have been a timeframe.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Where if Baltimore folks were on the mind to say, well,
- 15:53Speaker 2: let's hop on board with the Redskins now commanders, Well,
- 15:56Speaker 2: had it been, had that time overlapped with that decade
- 16:01Speaker 2: where Washington went to four Super Bowls and won three,
- 16:04Speaker 2: maybe some folks from up there might have been, but
- 16:07Speaker 2: I don't think so, man. I mean this is they
- 16:09Speaker 2: still have the Baltimore Colts marching band, Like, no, I didn't.
- 16:13Speaker 2: They didn't. They never gave that up, And that's such
- 16:16Speaker 2: am I allowed to cuts, Like, yeah, you beat me,
- 16:19Speaker 2: that's such a up thing. You then got the Browns
- 16:24Speaker 2: Like imagine if Washington lost the Redskins and then they
- 16:27Speaker 2: got the Eagles, Like, I don't think twenty five year
- 16:30Speaker 2: old people really congrasp just the depth of how messed
- 16:34Speaker 2: up that is. But that's what happened. And then they
- 16:36Speaker 2: name them something different. And now obviously the Ravens are again,
- 16:41Speaker 2: I believe, one of the one of the really excellent
- 16:43Speaker 2: franchises in the sport. But I don't think there was
- 16:46Speaker 2: much bleed. I don't think there was much like sort
- 16:49Speaker 2: of people didn't migrate south to root for Washington because
- 16:53Speaker 2: Washington reached that point, you know, post Jack can't cook,
- 16:56Speaker 2: and post all those Super Bowls where they've been kind
- 16:59Speaker 2: of a drift ever since. So in the way that
- 17:03Speaker 2: I was an oriole fan, I don't feel like Baltimore
- 17:06Speaker 2: people ever became Washington football fans. And then they got
- 17:09Speaker 2: the they got the Ravens back, and then pretty quickly
- 17:11Speaker 2: they became a really an excellent franchise and they've obviously
- 17:15Speaker 2: won some Super Bowls and whatever else.
- 17:17Speaker 3: So having said all that, this week is really well,
- 17:21Speaker 3: that's what I was gonna say, Like that takes the
- 17:24Speaker 3: stinger out of like the history, but like do we
- 17:26Speaker 3: need history, because let's just start now and you've got, yeah,
- 17:30Speaker 3: two of the best teams in football with probably the
- 17:32Speaker 3: two most.
- 17:32Speaker 1: Entertaining quarterbacks in the league. It's like, don't worry about
- 17:36Speaker 1: it because I've already like seen like pieces being like
- 17:38Speaker 1: this market and these two teams and they're both are
- 17:41Speaker 1: living within forty five and I'm like, I don't think
- 17:43Speaker 1: you do the rich history of this. I think you
- 17:45Speaker 1: start now and say this could be really cool over
- 17:47Speaker 1: the next twenty years.
- 17:49Speaker 2: You could do the rich history that's real. Washington has it.
- 17:54Speaker 2: It's dusty, but it's there. Baltimore has it. It's more recent.
- 17:59Speaker 2: So I mean, you could talk about franchises that have
- 18:01Speaker 2: had moments of high achievement and that Baltimore is living
- 18:04Speaker 2: in a time where they're feel awful close to adding
- 18:07Speaker 2: to it. But the idea is that they were ever
- 18:10Speaker 2: in each other's way, or ever had this game for
- 18:13Speaker 2: each other, or ever played in games that were particularly meaningful.
- 18:17Speaker 2: None of that's true. This week is the best game
- 18:20Speaker 2: on the schedule. And the fact that Jayden, I know
- 18:24Speaker 2: his favorite player is the quarterback for Baltimore.
- 18:26Speaker 1: He has he downplayed it this week, but I remember
- 18:29Speaker 1: all the stuff in the combine, like this guy grew
- 18:32Speaker 1: up wanting to be Lamar Jack, which is pretty cool.
- 18:34Speaker 1: I like that he downplayed it.
- 18:35Speaker 2: Also, now what, I think that's clever. Don't don't don't
- 18:38Speaker 2: don't let things be bigger than they need to be.
- 18:41Speaker 2: I believe that that's a guy he has great affinity for.
- 18:44Speaker 2: And by the way, why wouldn't he. Lamar is an
- 18:46Speaker 2: incredible player who can He's five through five weeks, he's
- 18:50Speaker 2: got better numbers than he had last year. But I
- 18:52Speaker 2: thought about that the other night. I thought, you know,
- 18:54Speaker 2: last year, halfway through the year, we're like who's the MVP, right,
- 18:57Speaker 2: There wasn't an obvious guy. So the fact that Lamar's
- 18:59Speaker 2: numbers are better, I think it's just, look, he's a
- 19:02Speaker 2: great player. We all understand that. Is Jade Daniels a
- 19:05Speaker 2: great player. I don't know up. I mean, we don't
- 19:07Speaker 2: have to know the answer to that. But everything Peter
- 19:10Speaker 2: that I was told about him in the off season
- 19:13Speaker 2: by people that I know, they're within the organization, that
- 19:15Speaker 2: he was a guy that commanded the room, had great confidence,
- 19:19Speaker 2: but not not a hint of arrogance, just wowed everyone
- 19:23Speaker 2: with how he carried himself. And that's before he played
- 19:26Speaker 2: a game. I heard all that. But the easiest thing
- 19:29Speaker 2: in the world to do is to sell optimism in
- 19:31Speaker 2: the off season. Everybody does it. So I'm like, all right,
- 19:34Speaker 2: let's see it. And then they beat the Giants. But
- 19:36Speaker 2: I gave I gave Clip a bunch of I'm like, hey,
- 19:38Speaker 2: how about a touchdown? How about that? And he was like,
- 19:40Speaker 2: can't we got to figure some reto stuff out. Well,
- 19:43Speaker 2: then they go to Cincinnati and you're like, you're gonna
- 19:46Speaker 2: You're gonna trust the dude on a fourth and flour
- 19:48Speaker 2: with a five point lead. Yes, You're gonna end zero
- 19:52Speaker 2: and like, you dropped that out of the sky. My
- 19:54Speaker 2: boy stand for Steve asked me on our part, He's like,
- 19:56Speaker 2: what was more impressive the catcher to throw? I was like,
- 19:58Speaker 2: the catch was thick, but he's getting blasted and throws
- 20:01Speaker 2: that ball exactly in the only place that it could be.
- 20:05Speaker 2: I thought that was incredible. And then he stacks another
- 20:07Speaker 2: win at Arizona, which at that point I'm like, I don
- 20:10Speaker 2: know what Arizona is. Well, then they go beat San Francisco,
- 20:13Speaker 2: so you're like, at some point, I'm going to stop
- 20:17Speaker 2: trying to diminish it and just say they've won, no doubt.
- 20:20Speaker 2: They won four in a row for the first time
- 20:22Speaker 2: in since two thousand and eight or something like that.
- 20:25Speaker 2: But this week doesn't have to be a rivalry game.
- 20:28Speaker 2: It's just this is a test. This is a moment
- 20:31Speaker 2: for Washington. Jade Daniels. You go up north and share
- 20:36Speaker 2: the field for sixty minutes with one of the real
- 20:38Speaker 2: bullies in this league, and see what you got. And
- 20:41Speaker 2: if they win, it doesn't mean they're going to the
- 20:43Speaker 2: super Bowl. And if they lose, it doesn't mean they stuck.
- 20:45Speaker 2: But I do think mid October chance to see what
- 20:49Speaker 2: you're working with. You couldn't ask for a whole lot
- 20:52Speaker 2: more if you're Washington and you the bandwagon is already
- 20:56Speaker 2: reving back up down there.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Peter, I love it, and it's you know, I obviously
- 21:01Speaker 1: I speak with Cliff as well, but Adam Peters is
- 21:03Speaker 1: a pala mine and we spent a lot of time
- 21:04Speaker 1: together this summer. And when he was talking about building
- 21:07Speaker 1: the roster, it was they started with all these veterans.
- 21:09Speaker 1: They knew they were drafting a quarterback. They didn't know
- 21:11Speaker 1: if it was going to be Mayor Daniels based on
- 21:13Speaker 1: how it fell. But they went into the whole thing
- 21:15Speaker 1: and they're like, all right, we're gonna bring in you know,
- 21:18Speaker 1: Austin Eckler and Zach Ertz and Bobby Wagner and Frankie
- 21:23Speaker 1: Luvo and then Marcus Mariota. Now, originally I don't know
- 21:27Speaker 1: if this has been reported, but they were hot on Darnald.
- 21:30Speaker 1: Darnald signs with the Vikings. They pivoted. They're like, all right,
- 21:33Speaker 1: Mariota is a nice backup plan for whoever this young
- 21:35Speaker 1: quarterback is. It's almost like they built this thing to
- 21:38Speaker 1: make sure there at least were those veteran voices for Jaden,
- 21:41Speaker 1: and then Jaden got there and you know all the
- 21:43Speaker 1: stories that I know, like it's there at four am
- 21:45Speaker 1: and doesn't leave, and it's he's the team leader despite
- 21:47Speaker 1: all those veterans.
- 21:50Speaker 2: And it's been from the jump. It's been a consistent,
- 21:54Speaker 2: mature approach. And you see it on the field. The poise,
- 21:58Speaker 2: the fact that he's unhurried and unbothered. That's rare, really
- 22:02Speaker 2: really rare. Jerry McLaurin came in studio with us. I
- 22:08Speaker 2: think it must have been about May. It was around it.
- 22:10Speaker 2: It was during the time of camp, and he was
- 22:12Speaker 2: you know, you get the on air Terry who's awesome,
- 22:14Speaker 2: and then you get the offerer who's just as awesome.
- 22:16Speaker 2: But he was not. He wasn't bs and insane. Hey,
- 22:20Speaker 2: it's really he's like, gave you like that that earnest,
- 22:23Speaker 2: big eyed like telling you like this, dude's impressive and
- 22:28Speaker 2: I think the world of Terry. He's going to be
- 22:30Speaker 2: so good at this whenever he's done. Obviously he's a
- 22:32Speaker 2: young man, he's got a ton of runway in front
- 22:34Speaker 2: of him. But he's just the way he spoke. I
- 22:38Speaker 2: was like, okay, but listen, as a guy that was
- 22:41Speaker 2: lucky enough to enjoy those years of greatness with Gibbs
- 22:44Speaker 2: at all. It's going to take more than a guy
- 22:47Speaker 2: saying something in may to get me even remotely accepted.
- 22:52Speaker 2: I mean, there's a little scar tissue here, Charlie Brown
- 22:54Speaker 2: running up to kick the football. I don't think there's
- 22:57Speaker 2: a ton of that around here. But that Monday, even
- 22:59Speaker 2: even that giant one, I'm like, all right, okay, But
- 23:02Speaker 2: then the Monday night, you didn't have to squint hard
- 23:04Speaker 2: to see it. Man, it was right there in front
- 23:06Speaker 2: of you. Was really obvious that when when the game
- 23:09Speaker 2: was there to be one, and our guys on countdown
- 23:12Speaker 2: make this point all the time. Like the reason these
- 23:13Speaker 2: guys get paid the money, the reason Mahomes is worth
- 23:15Speaker 2: every dollar he gets is if there's a chance to
- 23:17Speaker 2: win the game, he's gonna win the game, period. Like
- 23:20Speaker 2: so many games are coin flip games. You've got to
- 23:22Speaker 2: be great in those moments. Kirk Cousins has been great
- 23:24Speaker 2: in those moments. He's last two for them, Well, in
- 23:27Speaker 2: that moment the game is there to be one, he
- 23:30Speaker 2: was great. And against Cleveland, I never got to a
- 23:33Speaker 2: moment because Cleveland that's a whole other story. It's it's
- 23:37Speaker 2: there's just a in five games, there's enough layers where
- 23:40Speaker 2: you're like, I think about I might be laced enough
- 23:42Speaker 2: to shoes to go kick the football here, Peter, you
- 23:45Speaker 2: might laugh at me. By by Halloween or Thanksgiving, you
- 23:49Speaker 2: might be going, hey, remember, how's the football kick going? Man?
- 23:51Speaker 2: I'll be like what he wants?
- 23:52Speaker 1: And then you tip your cap. You tip your cap
- 23:54Speaker 1: to Lucy and you say.
- 23:55Speaker 2: Hey, I fell for Did you know that, Lucy? And
- 23:58Speaker 2: I did not know that. Yeah, it was a big deal.
- 24:01Speaker 2: When I was little, I thought that was really cool.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Well, signature show's on the bottom. I like that. That's good.
- 24:07Speaker 1: All right, we're gonna wrap this is so good real quick.
- 24:10Speaker 1: You're coming to my town on Monday night, or at
- 24:13Speaker 1: least the game is. I don't know, are you guys
- 24:14Speaker 1: going to be on site, because this is this is
- 24:17Speaker 1: some week here in New York.
- 24:18Speaker 2: We just before I hopped on with you, we had
- 24:21Speaker 2: like a zoom for countdown and hey, I left early
- 24:24Speaker 2: because I was coming to talk to you. I said,
- 24:26Speaker 2: you guys, let me know what we're gonna take you out.
- 24:28Speaker 1: We're promoting the game, we're promoting the show.
- 24:30Speaker 2: I appreciate that. Uh. It was one of those ones
- 24:33Speaker 2: that when the schedule comes out, you go, that's a
- 24:35Speaker 2: good one, and now you go, oh, well, what do
- 24:38Speaker 2: we have here? Man? The fact that the fact that
- 24:42Speaker 2: there is a change in at the OC, the play
- 24:45Speaker 2: call is going to be different where Salah was supposedly
- 24:48Speaker 2: going to go for Hackett, then he gets us, and
- 24:51Speaker 2: then of course Aaron goes on with Paton like wasn't me,
- 24:56Speaker 2: And whether he was or he wasn't, like, it's just
- 24:58Speaker 2: he's been given the autonomy and the buy in where
- 25:02Speaker 2: it's going to be hard for people to just believe
- 25:04Speaker 2: that he doesn't have any input that it doesn't matter
- 25:07Speaker 2: as much as the fact that I'm interested in Jason
- 25:09Speaker 2: and Ryan and Marcus's perspective as players. When Woody Johnson
- 25:13Speaker 2: does this, now it's on all the players to make
- 25:16Speaker 2: it the right decision. It's on you to go make
- 25:20Speaker 2: this look like it wasn't just a catastrophic knee jerk reaction.
- 25:25Speaker 2: That's legitimately fascinating because of the city you're in, because
- 25:30Speaker 2: of the quarterback, and because it's a franchise that's starving
- 25:33Speaker 2: for a moment. But then sometimes with these Monday night games.
- 25:37Speaker 2: You know, maybe you have one side that's interesting. In
- 25:39Speaker 2: the other it's like, well, now you got Buffalo and
- 25:42Speaker 2: two Mondays two Mondays ago, Josh Allen's got five touchdowns
- 25:47Speaker 2: and a half four passing touchdowns. They look like a
- 25:49Speaker 2: video game. Then they places Baltimore and Houston. It's like, yike,
- 25:53Speaker 2: what are we doing here? If they lose this game?
- 25:55Speaker 2: They've losted three in a row, and the Jets are
- 25:57Speaker 2: in first place in the AFC East and we it's on,
- 26:00Speaker 2: so we don't have any shortage of storylines. And I
- 26:04Speaker 2: think we're just you know how this gets in and
- 26:06Speaker 2: you live it. We're gonna have to remind ourselves not
- 26:09Speaker 2: to go so crazy on the Jets talk that we
- 26:12Speaker 2: leave ourselves no down to Buffalo, which is equally as interesting,
- 26:15Speaker 2: and it's hard. You got to police yourself. You got
- 26:17Speaker 2: to try to make sure that we have a rundown
- 26:20Speaker 2: and we don't just rip it up and throw it
- 26:21Speaker 2: out the window. But yeah, man, it's going to be
- 26:23Speaker 2: a legitimately fascinating sort of next couple of weeks in
- 26:28Speaker 2: New York City with with Aaron and the Jets and
- 26:30Speaker 2: equally so with Buffalo. So we'll we'll see you Monday night.
- 26:34Speaker 1: You were talking about the ethos of the commander's fan
- 26:37Speaker 1: and you know, putting yourself in those shoes and wanting
- 26:39Speaker 1: to believe Jets fan. It has been so fun to
- 26:41Speaker 1: track it. So everyone wanted him fired after the Denver game,
- 26:45Speaker 1: sala he doesn't get fired. Then everyone him fired after
- 26:48Speaker 1: the Vikings team and they actually fire him, and the
- 26:50Speaker 1: fans are upset that they actually fired him, and it's what.
- 26:56Speaker 2: You gotta whack him? You're gonna whack the guy you
- 26:58Speaker 2: didn't whack hom tight What are we doing exactly that?
- 27:02Speaker 1: And then it's why isn't Hackett fire? Well, the hacker
- 27:05Speaker 1: is the motive. And now you've got You've got you
- 27:08Speaker 1: know Downing who's gonna be calling plays? And Todd Downing
- 27:10Speaker 1: I've known him many years. I go back many years
- 27:12Speaker 1: for Todd. Great dude, and I'm wishing him the best.
- 27:15Speaker 1: But he's not Bill Walsh either. But all the fans
- 27:17Speaker 1: are like, all right, that's solved, and now it's we
- 27:19Speaker 1: heading towards the weekend. Jets fans are like, oh, if
- 27:22Speaker 1: we win this game, we've got the fifth easiest schedule
- 27:24Speaker 1: in the league. We've got ten games on the East
- 27:26Speaker 1: Coast and they're like, we're hosting a playoff game again,
- 27:28Speaker 1: and it's like so good to just watch it, and
- 27:30Speaker 1: it's it's the life of being a football fan. It's
- 27:32Speaker 1: so good.
- 27:33Speaker 2: Football is uniquely constructed or and I think people can
- 27:39Speaker 2: live through this from the fantasy lens, right, your team thinks,
- 27:42Speaker 2: but then it's like waivers. Maybe you get a guy
- 27:45Speaker 2: and you start looking at your line up being like,
- 27:47Speaker 2: we win this. We're all right, you got your little
- 27:50Speaker 2: fantasy lens like that. But then when it comes to
- 27:52Speaker 2: the far more important, at least to me, actual on
- 27:55Speaker 2: field thing with your team, you talk yourself out of it,
- 27:58Speaker 2: you talk yourself into it. But this isn't this isn't
- 28:01Speaker 2: make the lead, Peter. If they win, then they're three
- 28:04Speaker 2: and three and Buffalo's suddenly on a backslide, and all
- 28:08Speaker 2: of a sudden, the world looks different. But it's wild, right,
- 28:10Speaker 2: get rid of the guy whack the bum than they do,
- 28:13Speaker 2: and everyone's like, let us not do anything, rash Man.
- 28:15Speaker 2: It's uh, it's luckily for you and I we're in
- 28:19Speaker 2: the we're in the content business, and this nobody, never
- 28:22Speaker 2: ending machine that generates stuff for us to uh to
- 28:25Speaker 2: chew on.
- 28:26Speaker 1: Uh, we're gonna wrap here. I'll just say and I
- 28:28Speaker 1: mean this obviously, I've been such a big fan of
- 28:30Speaker 1: your work on Sports Center and of course with Risillo
- 28:33Speaker 1: and then The Masters and now the Late night Sports Center.
- 28:36Speaker 1: But I meant at what I said in the build up.
- 28:38Speaker 1: I have the utmost respect for these studio hosts and
- 28:41Speaker 1: these point guards. I work with a great one in
- 28:43Speaker 1: Carissa on Sundays, and I love Menafe, and I love
- 28:46Speaker 1: James Brown, and think Maria Taylor does a wonderful job,
- 28:48Speaker 1: and we can go down the list. I think the
- 28:50Speaker 1: work you do on Monday nights is so good and
- 28:53Speaker 1: it's so valuable sitting the table, and then the work
- 28:55Speaker 1: you guys do at halftime in post game to wrap
- 28:56Speaker 1: up the week. It's it's just really appreciated from here.
- 28:59Speaker 1: I think you're as good as anyone who's doing it. Man,
- 29:01Speaker 1: thank you.
- 29:01Speaker 2: That's really really kind. I uh, you know, I you
- 29:05Speaker 2: know what I think I think about our business. And
- 29:07Speaker 2: I tried to stay this Peter to make it clear,
- 29:09Speaker 2: like whether it's you or Kyle. By the way, hold
- 29:12Speaker 2: on a second.
- 29:13Speaker 1: Do you have a sceptor. I know he gave you
- 29:15Speaker 1: that one and he shared treasures the fact you do.
- 29:17Speaker 1: I love that. Yes, that is an angry run scepter.
- 29:21Speaker 1: It's one of our favorite sets given.
- 29:23Speaker 2: Out well, and he gave me one at the Pro
- 29:26Speaker 2: Bowl last year, just as I think as a shout out.
- 29:28Speaker 2: Because like on Sports Center, I will say, Man, you know,
- 29:34Speaker 2: it looks like I said, it looks like an anger,
- 29:35Speaker 2: I said, but I'll leave at the Kyle. That's his segment,
- 29:38Speaker 2: and of course he puts it in the segment thing,
- 29:40Speaker 2: it's the mess segment. But but but the point I'm
- 29:43Speaker 2: trying to get to is here, I think in our business,
- 29:47Speaker 2: like your your your kindness here is just so appreciated.
- 29:51Speaker 2: And I think that largely we all kind of like
- 29:54Speaker 2: each other and support each other. I mean, it's it's
- 29:56Speaker 2: like school that do we all love everybody? Maybe not,
- 30:00Speaker 2: But I don't think there's a whole lot of competitive
- 30:03Speaker 2: like hatred or anything like that. I think mostly I
- 30:06Speaker 2: consume stuff I like. I try to be a supportive
- 30:09Speaker 2: publicly about the stuff that I like, and like the
- 30:11Speaker 2: Good Morning Football. I'm so thrilled that it all worked out.
- 30:13Speaker 2: I get there's a lot of moving pieces there, but
- 30:16Speaker 2: the good works, good work, and and people to treat
- 30:18Speaker 2: this like the way I think you approach it, I
- 30:21Speaker 2: know the way I approach it. It's supposed to be fun. Yeah,
- 30:23Speaker 2: it's kind of the last thing we've got. Man's so
- 30:25Speaker 2: much bullsh hate and all the.
- 30:30Speaker 1: Today this morning guys are in Yankees hats, Galzer and
- 30:32Speaker 1: Mets at the Knicks one the Rangers. One's like it's
- 30:36Speaker 1: and it's like, Okay, I know the elections coming up
- 30:38Speaker 1: in this whole world might go up into flames and
- 30:40Speaker 1: everyone's going to be angry at each other. But for today,
- 30:42Speaker 1: it's cool here in New York. This looks good.
- 30:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm about to add but what about the Mets?
- 30:45Speaker 2: I mean, are you kidding? Even Lindora, like if it
- 30:49Speaker 2: could I ever be as cool in my life as
- 30:51Speaker 2: him rounding first base after he gets that, like not.
- 30:53Speaker 1: Even smiling, just like I couldn't believe it's that. But
- 30:57Speaker 1: he's usually a hype guy. He was so chill.
- 31:00Speaker 2: That's when you're in the matrix, bro, and everything has
- 31:02Speaker 2: slowed down, and like you you just you're just bending
- 31:05Speaker 2: your way beyond grabbing them. There is a.
- 31:08Speaker 1: Parallel here a little bit. We have this rich money
- 31:10Speaker 1: guy Steve Cohen now owning the Mets, and there's a
- 31:13Speaker 1: lot of skepticism the first couple of years. But like
- 31:16Speaker 1: the new ownership, it's a whole new spin on things.
- 31:18Speaker 1: I feel like the commander is like it's whether or
- 31:20Speaker 1: not the owner play is a huge role or not.
- 31:22Speaker 1: Like at least there's just fresh breath and fresh eyes
- 31:24Speaker 1: and a fresh face to look at in that owners suite.
- 31:27Speaker 2: No place needed a reset button push like the Washington
- 31:31Speaker 2: football situation. Nobody needed it worse. I get met fans.
- 31:35Speaker 2: You can talk yourself into the year situation. Nothing was
- 31:38Speaker 2: quite as toxic and debilitating as the Snyder ownership was
- 31:43Speaker 2: here because it came on the heels of real greatness.
- 31:46Speaker 2: So you know it was. It was. But I get
- 31:49Speaker 2: what you're saying, and listen. If you're a Mets fan,
- 31:51Speaker 2: I'm psyched for you. You got to be happy, man,
- 31:54Speaker 2: and you've been riding this incredible rollercoaster and it's whatever
- 31:58Speaker 2: I'm getting off the path. I appreciate your kindness. You
- 32:01Speaker 2: do great stuff. I think you know. Being able to
- 32:04Speaker 2: say thanks to you and come want to do this
- 32:07Speaker 2: is good fun. Shout to my guy Kyle. I got
- 32:08Speaker 2: the stepter right here. It goes red and then it
- 32:11Speaker 2: goes green. I like the red. I think the red
- 32:13Speaker 2: really looks really angry when it's red. My kids it's
- 32:18Speaker 2: but the thing is it's like it's like an actual
- 32:20Speaker 2: forged piece of metal, and my child gets it and
- 32:22Speaker 2: it's good, dangerous, bad because someone's gonna get hit in
- 32:25Speaker 2: the head.
- 32:26Speaker 1: So yeah, we got real quick. I do love the
- 32:29Speaker 1: pod you're doing for Omaha, can you plug that a
- 32:30Speaker 1: little bit and I'll come on anytime you in Stanford
- 32:33Speaker 1: Sea to watch me. I think you guys are going
- 32:34Speaker 1: not just for the audio world. We're in our podcast world.
- 32:37Speaker 1: Where do we find yours.
- 32:38Speaker 2: Sv pod wherever Apple Spotify, the places where it is.
- 32:42Speaker 2: I mean, look, the world doesn't need more but the
- 32:45Speaker 2: one thing that And there are some friends of mine
- 32:48Speaker 2: that are in that Saturday night space. I just there
- 32:50Speaker 2: aren't a ton of them where what Steve and I
- 32:53Speaker 2: are doing is post Saturday night. And I started taping
- 32:55Speaker 2: at two forty am last Saturday night after the Miami Calcia.
- 33:00Speaker 2: We got we got flag games real early Sunday. Not
- 33:03Speaker 2: the best way to start your week on like two
- 33:05Speaker 2: hours sleep. Yeah, and then we're just doing wrap ups
- 33:08Speaker 2: after Monday night. We do them on Tuesday's SPoD me
- 33:11Speaker 2: and Stafford Steve. You know what it's like. You got
- 33:14Speaker 2: a guy that you work with, somebody that have a
- 33:16Speaker 2: great sort of connection and fun and we're not pretending
- 33:19Speaker 2: like it's important conversation, but we do enjoy it. So
- 33:23Speaker 2: if people are looking for another thing to waste thirty
- 33:26Speaker 2: or forty five minutes of your life, there you go,
- 33:27Speaker 2: sp Pod and Omaha. If I can be serious, the
- 33:31Speaker 2: Omaha folks have been really, really awesome. They put a
- 33:33Speaker 2: lot a lot of a lot of sort of sweat
- 33:37Speaker 2: equity in behind the teams, and we're grateful for all
- 33:39Speaker 2: them done to help.
- 33:40Speaker 1: Us, no doubt. Scott Empel, I cannot wait to watch
- 33:44Speaker 1: you on Monday night and I cannot wait to see
- 33:46Speaker 1: how this one Sunday plays out. Thanks for joining us
- 33:49Speaker 1: the most. You're the busiest guy in sports TV and
- 33:51Speaker 1: you took some time out of a production meeting to
- 33:52Speaker 1: go sit with my ass. I appreciate it, right.
- 33:54Speaker 2: I mean, keep doing your thing. You guys are awesome
- 33:56Speaker 2: and you know where to find me anytime.
- 33:59Speaker 1: Thank you. SVP awesome. As always, SVP was awesome. I'm
- 34:09Speaker 1: going to bring on my wonderful producer and cohort here
- 34:14Speaker 1: in New York City, mister Aaron oon Kaufman, Aaron, I
- 34:18Speaker 1: could ask you about the sputtering Bills, that's your team,
- 34:20Speaker 1: but I don't care too. In fact, I'm more interested
- 34:22Speaker 1: on your thoughts on SVP going in on the rivalry.
- 34:25Speaker 1: That wasn't I love it.
- 34:28Speaker 4: I love him talking about his childhood with it and
- 34:30Speaker 4: everyone there and why they supported different teams and why
- 34:34Speaker 4: they didn't migrate down south to go support the Washington
- 34:39Speaker 4: and you know him talking about like being a man
- 34:41Speaker 4: at a time like he was what he said, he
- 34:43Speaker 4: was too young for the Senators.
- 34:45Speaker 1: We're too old to become a national stands right, ols
- 34:47Speaker 1: and my team.
- 34:48Speaker 4: And I understand that. Like growing up, I grew up
- 34:50Speaker 4: in Connecticut, we had the Huskies obviously with Yukon, and
- 34:53Speaker 4: we had the Whalers for like the y.
- 34:56Speaker 1: Did you become a Carolina Hurricanes fan or you were
- 34:58Speaker 1: like screw them when they No? No, I was barely
- 35:02Speaker 1: a Whalers fan to be fair too. So yeah, really good.
- 35:07Speaker 1: I mean I wasn't blowing smoke up as well. I
- 35:09Speaker 1: think he does a really nice job as a host
- 35:12Speaker 1: of one of those shows, and it's not easy I
- 35:14Speaker 1: watched Churissa doing it on Amazon and on Fox. I
- 35:17Speaker 1: think she's as good as anyone. I love Menafee and
- 35:19Speaker 1: I love James Brown. I don't know Maria Taylor well
- 35:23Speaker 1: enough to you know, voice her, but she does a
- 35:25Speaker 1: fine job and she's new at it. But like SVP,
- 35:28Speaker 1: running Point as good as anybody that I see. And
- 35:31Speaker 1: it's a pleasure to talk to him. That guy lives
- 35:33Speaker 1: in Breed Sports and has always been very cool to me.
- 35:36Speaker 1: The season with Peter Sugger is always delivering, and we
- 35:40Speaker 1: deliver results, presented by uber eats, and it's time for
- 35:44Speaker 1: delivering results. The award we give out every single week,
- 35:48Speaker 1: presented by our friends at uber eats. And the player
- 35:52Speaker 1: that I want to shut it out this week is
- 35:54Speaker 1: no other than Lamar Jackson. As everyone's focusing on Jaden Daniels,
- 35:58Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson is like, hey, I'm the reigning MVP and
- 36:02Speaker 1: I'm still as good as ever. Lamar was down ten
- 36:04Speaker 1: points in the fourth quarter against a team that couldn't
- 36:07Speaker 1: be stopped, and yet he's still found a way. Stiff
- 36:10Speaker 1: farming Sam Hubbard, falling off one leg, dropping the ball,
- 36:12Speaker 1: and still throwing the touchdown pass to Isaiah Likely and
- 36:15Speaker 1: then did everything he possibly could to make sure that
- 36:18Speaker 1: his Ravens team found a way to get out of
- 36:20Speaker 1: Cincinnati with a win. Lamar is the MVP, and yet
- 36:23Speaker 1: as we head towards this game, I feel like he's
- 36:25Speaker 1: the second story when it comes to the quarterbacks. Then,
- 36:28Speaker 1: because everyone's hyping up Jayden Daniels. We'll see how it goes.
- 36:31Speaker 1: They play one o'clock Eastern on Sunday, and I'll tell
- 36:35Speaker 1: you Uber Eats. I told a whole long story about
- 36:38Speaker 1: them last week. I have no such story this week.
- 36:40Speaker 1: I didn't get any Uber eats this week, but I'm
- 36:42Speaker 1: excited to do it the next time. I'm out in LA.
- 36:44Speaker 1: And you know what, as I'm watching the Mets and
- 36:46Speaker 1: the Yankees and the Liberty and the Knicks and the Rangers,
- 36:48Speaker 1: I'm like Uber Eats tonight. That was delivering results presented
- 36:52Speaker 1: by our friends of Uber Eats, where you can get
- 36:53Speaker 1: the best deals on Game today food all season long.
- 36:56Speaker 1: They are the official on the men delivery partner of
- 36:59Speaker 1: the NFL Order. Now we're rapping here. Good week of football.
- 37:03Speaker 1: I didn't even talk about Lions, Cowboys. That's a great one.
- 37:07Speaker 1: Steelers has a feeling of desperation to it, and of
- 37:09Speaker 1: course Eagles Browns. You're talking about an Eagles team coming
- 37:12Speaker 1: out of the buy. What can they do? A ton
- 37:14Speaker 1: of good football this weekend. All eyes on that Monday
- 37:16Speaker 1: nighter and all eyes at that one o'clock start, Commanders
- 37:20Speaker 1: versus Ravens. Many thanks to Scott Van Pelt, to Jason English,
- 37:25Speaker 1: to Aaron wan Kaufman, and to all of you who
- 37:27Speaker 1: listen till next week. This is the Season with Peter Schrager.
- 37:49Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Schrager is a production of the
- 37:52Speaker 1: NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio. For more podcasts from iHeartRadio,
