- 3:24Yeah. I can't wait to be there.

- 3:36So, Champions, today we're joined by a true warrior, a man
- 3:39whose name commands respect across global combat stages.
- 3:43Alex the killer. King Lahore is not just a French
- 3:48Lahore. Lahore.
- 3:48Wow, I'm not French. He at the end we didn't like him
- 3:54on the E French people. Excuse my French, Lahore.
- 3:59Sorry Sir. You know he's a symbol of
- 4:01discipline, resilience and evolution.
- 4:03Born in France, raised in the UK and representing Africa Will
- 4:07Bride, Alex's beauty of career that reflects fuel greets from
- 4:11his early days in MMA to becoming one of Brave CF's most
- 4:15respected fighters. With our professional record of
- 4:1826 wins and 11 losses, and a Johnny filled with lessons about
- 4:23belief, purpose and mindset has He steps into the Brave CF100
- 4:27main card in Bahrain this November, representing the
- 4:31continent on one of the biggest global stages in combat sports.
- 4:35We'll dive deep into his story, the battles inside and outside
- 4:38the cage, and what it truly means to leave for the heart of
- 4:42a King. Alex Lahore, right?
- 4:45Walk up to the king of broadcast.
- 4:47Brother, brother Let. Me, let me, let me, let me.
- 4:52Let's take French classes now. Yeah, it's.
- 4:58Lahore. Lahore, right?
- 5:01Lahore, right? Wow.
- 5:04Wow. Is it Bono, Primitina or
- 5:07Bonsoir? Bonsoir.
- 5:10Yeah, Bonsoir, Monsieur. Monsieur Alex Lahore.
- 5:14I haven't taken French in forever.
- 5:16Wow. So Bonsoir, Monsieur Alex
- 5:20Lahore, let us start from the beginning.
- 5:23When did you journey as the Killer King truly begin and what
- 5:27has actually inspired you to step into Timber Sports?
- 5:32You know what literally coming into MMA was literally just by
- 5:37luck. One of my friend saw a new club
- 5:41opening in in the area and he was like he was bothering me to
- 5:45go with him all the time. I don't know, I wasn't really
- 5:49feeling it, but I went with him one time and never looked back.
- 5:54I just enjoyed it. And yeah, I literally quit my
- 5:57job and just started doing that full time.
- 6:00I just find I found like peace and freedom in in the sport, you
- 6:06know? So I just thought, yeah, let me
- 6:10just do that. So you did not choose much arts,
- 6:13Much arts chose you. Exactly, Yeah.
- 6:17Interesting. Wow, that's amazing.
- 6:21Yeah, we're actually talking earlier.
- 6:22We're mentioning to each other before this call how the most
- 6:27aligned experiences, sometimes they come randomly or they come
- 6:31by luck. So that's actually amazing.
- 6:33It's kind of the same situation. You didn't know.
- 6:36There was no way you could have seen that that was going to be
- 6:38such a massive part of your life.
- 6:39You just kind of fell into it. It sounds we know that you
- 6:43represent multiple nations right now, France, the UK, Africa.
- 6:49How does that? Free nation, not multiple Free
- 6:53nation we've got. Free multiple.
- 6:56We've got, we've got to be Well, yeah, we've got to be precise,
- 6:59OK. Because they're not any, because
- 7:02they're not any nation. They're not any nation.
- 7:04They're. Bro, you know, you represent
- 7:07Nigeria as well. You represent Nigeria as well.
- 7:11I was born. I was born in France.
- 7:15Let me raise the flag. Let me raise the flag, brother.
- 7:19You represent us as well bro. Yeah, yeah.
- 7:23And then obviously I, I, I, I am originally from the Ivory Coast.
- 7:29My parents are from the Ivory Coast.
- 7:31Obviously they migrated from Ivory Coast to France and then I
- 7:34migrated to the to the UK. So I live in London.
- 7:37I've been living there since 2005.
- 7:40S them free country made me. So like I said, I walked, I
- 7:45walked into a gym in the UK, I wasn't doing no MMA when I was
- 7:49in France. My background in Ivory Coast
- 7:53gave me my physical abilities. So yeah, the whole 3 made the
- 8:00Killer King, you know? So that's why I have to
- 8:04represent the three countries. But yeah, we also represent
- 8:07Africa. We represent Palestine.
- 8:10You know, we about, we about the, the, the, you know, the
- 8:13real people, the good people. We want peace on, on, on earth.
- 8:17We want, you know, good people, happiness and just evolution
- 8:22moving forward. It sounds like.
- 8:25You've proved us correct. You've proved us correct.
- 8:29It sounds like peace is one of the main themes that you've
- 8:33taken from being part of so many different cultures.
- 8:37Has there been any other identities or any other mindsets
- 8:42that have really sat in that you think have been because of
- 8:45you're from several different nations, so you represent so
- 8:48many different types of people? Yeah, obviously me being from
- 8:54three different, you know, background has made me
- 8:58understand people a lot. You know, different cultures,
- 9:02different way of talking, different way of communicating.
- 9:06You can say certain things in certain places and they would
- 9:10not take it the same as a different place.
- 9:13So yeah, me travelling and being in, well, every day, I'm always
- 9:17either speaking French or speaking English.
- 9:20So it's like I've learned to kind of be in the middle and
- 9:24understand people more. So yeah.
- 9:27Wow, French Monsieur. Monsieur, I'd love for you to
- 9:32teach us something in French, but before you.
- 9:35Useful in me. Yeah, I am the best.
- 9:40Well, I love that. I love that.
- 9:41So you are the best in combat sports.
- 9:45We are the best at podcasted. So take it or just take it or
- 9:49you take it. So you know Max Holloway in the
- 9:55UFC, say something. In order to be the best, you
- 9:58have to be to the best and the best is blessed.
- 10:00So what has been the biggest challenge early on on your
- 10:06journey to becoming the best? You know, you're faced with self
- 10:09doubt. You know your environment, you
- 10:11know discipline that is required to stay consistent.
- 10:15But for you on your own journey, what has been the biggest
- 10:18challenge on that journey to becoming the best?
- 10:23Just to be fair, biggest challenge was consistency, man.
- 10:28Being able to stay consistent. Obviously being able to find
- 10:34yourself while being consistent. Yeah, actually doing it, that
- 10:40was the hardest thing right now for me.
- 10:43It's more of a lifestyle now but at the start it was really
- 10:46difficult. I had to work and train and you
- 10:50know it was, it was very difficult at the start.
- 10:53Now it's more of a lifestyle. I coach, I, I obviously I
- 10:58trained myself and I obviously compete.
- 11:01So it's all, it's all in one, it's all together, it's all I do
- 11:05and I'm enjoying it. That's awesome.
- 11:09So I know you self trained and you're self-made and you really
- 11:14have to find. AI have a team.
- 11:16I have people that are trained with.
- 11:18I have guys that I work with, but obviously everyone's got the
- 11:22part. So I've got someone for the
- 11:24striking, I've got someone for the wrestling, I've got someone
- 11:27for the jiu jitsu, I've got someone for the conditioning,
- 11:29I've got someone for like the massage, fitness or steel
- 11:33physio. So I've got a team, but I chose
- 11:36the team which put them all together.
- 11:39When you were first starting out kind of first building that
- 11:42team, maybe it was just you and a trainer or you just by
- 11:46yourself in a gym. Did you have a defining moment
- 11:50where you thought, I can actually do this, I can actually
- 11:53do this for real. I can do this professionally.
- 11:55I can build that team. I can do that.
- 11:58Yeah, yeah. So from the start, when I first
- 12:01started, obviously I was, I went to the local gym that said my
- 12:05friend, you know, took me. So it was a team.
- 12:08So there was loads of people training there and stuff.
- 12:11And then after maybe a year, well after, sorry, after 2-3
- 12:15months, they asked me if I wanted to compete on an amateur
- 12:18show as I obviously I said yes and I competed and you know, I
- 12:24saw like how it works, obviously the fighting, the ticket sales,
- 12:29the crowd and I just, yeah, I just thought there's a big
- 12:34potential in this, not just in fighting, but in everything
- 12:38else. At the time it wasn't legal in
- 12:40France. That's why I saw that straight
- 12:43away that obviously in France is not legal.
- 12:46And I know they will be legalising it over there.
- 12:49So if I get onto it now, I'll be a step ahead from from everyone
- 12:55over there. So which is obviously happened,
- 12:58but now the difference is because I've started in the UK,
- 13:01the people in France, they don't know me and they, you know,
- 13:05they're always disrespecting me and, you know, talking about my
- 13:09losses and not actually, you know, considering what I've
- 13:14done, what I've achieved, you know, on like, like, like we
- 13:18said, with a, with a small team, with a small, small circle, for
- 13:24example, if I didn't, they're calling him a legend already.
- 13:28I don't, I don't think he's done as much as what I've done is he
- 13:32doesn't have as many fights that have as many fighters I've got
- 13:36in. I think I've fought in bigger
- 13:38organisations, the name, more organisation, the name.
- 13:41I think I fought for titles more than him.
- 13:44So yeah, I should be called a legend too.
- 13:47But the only thing that separates us is obviously he's
- 13:5041 and I'm 35, obviously 36 soon.
- 13:54So yeah, that's the only thing that separate, separate us
- 13:59really is obviously the age and obviously the technical
- 14:03abilities. I think my technical abilities
- 14:06are way more rounded. I'm comfortable in more area
- 14:11than he is. We're going by from what we've
- 14:14seen online and through his fights.
- 14:17And yeah, we're we're happy, we're confident, and we're
- 14:21looking forward to it. Oh, you were actually about to
- 14:26test it. And to, to, to be honest, in
- 14:30MMA, a record of 26 and 11 is super impressive.
- 14:36You've got more wins than losses, even if your losses are
- 14:39multiplied by two. So we, we see the likes of
- 14:43Charles Olivera, for example, he's a legend.
- 14:45And of course he he's got a lot of losses under the belt.
- 14:49The losses actually are not just losses, they're lessons, right?
- 14:54Yeah, the lessons and people, people are very faecal minded.
- 14:58I have trained combat sports and I know why I did not GoPro
- 15:03right. So I have a very big respect for
- 15:05humans like yourself who are brave enough to you to this.
- 15:10Yeah. Yeah, it's.
- 15:12Not it's a life choice. You know, you've got to put your
- 15:15life into it to get to that, to that top level, otherwise you
- 15:20won't be able to do it. It's hard work.
- 15:22Every day is, yeah, ups and downs, injuries, sometimes not
- 15:28being able to do certain things. And obviously sometimes you want
- 15:32to fight, but you can't get a fight.
- 15:35Yeah, it's a lot. It's a lot for the mind, for the
- 15:37body, for the soul. It's I just love the whole, the
- 15:41whole, the whole martial arts, the whole MMA kind of, you know,
- 15:46the, the lifestyle it replicates, it replicates real
- 15:50life a lot. You know, there's so many,
- 15:52there's so many things from yeah, so there's so many things
- 15:56from MMA that you can take and use in your everyday life, you
- 16:02know, throughout the training. Absolutely.
- 16:05You know, I, I love the fact that you, you speak about
- 16:08mindsets, right? And when you look at the title
- 16:11of this podcast, it's called the Kingdom's podcast, Growth
- 16:14mindset, leadership, AI and business insights.
- 16:18That is what we are about and the philosophy that will hold
- 16:21very dearly on this broadcasters mindset skill set, tool set,
- 16:25right? And we know, thank you very much
- 16:28Sir, that we, we know that MMA is a physical game or what a lot
- 16:33of people do not realise is it's a festival, the mental game,
- 16:36right? And your nickname, the Killer
- 16:39King, it carries a lot of power, but what does it really mean to
- 16:43you? Like, what does it really mean?
- 16:45Is it about the dominance, the mindset, or something deeper?
- 16:49The Killer King is just a fight, a fight name really is how I
- 16:54approach my fight. So that's my persona as a
- 16:58fighter. So when when I come into
- 17:02competition into my Killer King persona, it's destruction.
- 17:07It's obviously with runner and control.
- 17:12As you can see on my Instagram, I call myself the king of
- 17:15control violence. We do the violence at the
- 17:18highest level in every department, you know, wrestling,
- 17:22jujitsu and striking. So that's the if you.
- 17:27If you feel like you, you run my mind.
- 17:29You run my mind. If you have any hopes, if you
- 17:33have any hopes on doing anything, do not compete against
- 17:38the killer King because it will kill your dream.
- 17:41It will kill your dream. So if you if you thinking of for
- 17:46example, getting a third belt, don't try and do that against
- 17:50the killer King because in game over already.
- 17:54You know what, anybody whoever thinks of fighting you, even in
- 17:58their dreams, they should wake up and come apologise.
- 18:01Because. Because that dream is dead on
- 18:06arrival. But I, I like to put, I like to
- 18:09put MMA guys on the sport. Of course, I feel like the top
- 18:14three skills, you know, we talk about the mindset and let's talk
- 18:19about the skill set. The top three skills you require
- 18:23for success in MMA, in my opinion, are wrestling at the
- 18:27grappling wishes, jiu jitsu and striking.
- 18:30I feel like the best form of striking is Muay Thai.
- 18:32Yeah. What's your what's your opinion?
- 18:34Yeah. What's like the top three in in?
- 18:36Your Yeah, that's what I do. That's my favourite.
- 18:38Muay Thai is my favourite out of all the arts.
- 18:41I like the violence of it. Elbows, knees, high kicks and.
- 18:45The art of the atriums. The art of the atriums.
- 18:49I'll give it over to my Co host. Yeah, that's my, that's my my
- 18:55favourite. But yeah, for me, I feel like if
- 18:57you do an MMA, you should have a good healthy Muay Thai or boxing
- 19:04is OK. But if you have a good Muay
- 19:06Thai, you're good. If you have a good wrestling
- 19:10offence or defence or both, you're good.
- 19:13And if you have a good jiu jitsu, you're also good.
- 19:17But the main, main, main thing I feel is the conditioning,
- 19:22because if you're tired, all your your skills goes away.
- 19:26So yeah, that's that's the the hardest bit I would say for in
- 19:32MMA is the fitness, you know, being able people don't people
- 19:36don't really feel it or understand it because you have
- 19:40to do it to feel it. Because people don't realise how
- 19:43much energy takes to go from striking into grabbing someone
- 19:49and then into, back into striking and then into takedown
- 19:51and then into jiu jitsu and then back into that's crazy like
- 19:56cardio, like battle of energy, you know?
- 19:59So yeah, it's important for me to mention that that
- 20:05conditioning for me is the number one thing to to, to make
- 20:10sure you have, you know. Well appreciated.
- 20:16So it sounds like anyone who gets into the ring with you,
- 20:19anyone who's around you should turn around and just go back
- 20:24home, right? It sounds like you're
- 20:26definitely. A winner if.
- 20:28You're a killer. If you're on the wrong side, if
- 20:30you're on a good side, you're OK, you can roll.
- 20:33But if you're on the wrong side, then yeah, it's difficult.
- 20:38And it was obviously, obviously it's a road to get there and
- 20:42you've had to face some sort of loss at some point.
- 20:45Even if you are in a phase of being an absolute monster
- 20:49killer, someone that no one should ever come close to.
- 20:53How do you usually or how did you mentally reset after a loss
- 20:58in order to get to the point of being a consistent winner like
- 21:02you are? So dealing with a loss is first
- 21:08of all you've got as an athlete, you've got to understand that
- 21:12you can't win them all and losing is part of the sport.
- 21:16Obviously we want, we all want to win them all.
- 21:18There's guys that win them all and beating like Jon Jones for
- 21:21example. But I have one in a million, you
- 21:24know. So from the losses what I did
- 21:27was obviously look at the mistake I made and then went
- 21:32back into training. They just motivated me.
- 21:35They motivated me to do better, to carry on, to be consistent.
- 21:40And also the main motivation is the haters.
- 21:44When you get the haters costing you every day, then you use that
- 21:48to go back to training and to get even stronger and better so
- 21:52next time you can shut the haters up.
- 21:55So yeah, you've got to use everything that's around you to
- 21:59become the best version of yourself.
- 22:00I. Love that.
- 22:02That's amazing, yeah. Yeah.
- 22:08Do you have any type of faith or spirituality that plays in your
- 22:12journey or anything you do before you step into a fight
- 22:17that you go through at all? That's my everyday thing.
- 22:19That's my number one thing. I am a Muslim man for I I, I
- 22:25follow Islam, so that's number one for me.
- 22:28Without, like we say, without God, we wouldn't have been here
- 22:32Is everything is from God that he's like I said, I'd never, if
- 22:38you ask me or like when I was maybe 10 or 11 was you going to
- 22:43do, are you going to do MMA when you get older?
- 22:46I would have never chose MMA. I would have said football or I
- 22:49would have said, yeah, I was mostly said football, never
- 22:53thinking about boxing or kickboxing or MMA or anything
- 22:57like that. So yeah, the journey, I just
- 23:00take it as you come, my whole life has been that, you know, my
- 23:04life has been so different than most of the people in the world.
- 23:08Obviously I'm a lonely child, so I don't have no siblings, Big
- 23:14Brothers or little sisters or little.
- 23:17Yeah, I've got, but I've got a big family.
- 23:19I've got a big family, loads of cousins.
- 23:21I've got step brothers though, on my dad's side.
- 23:25They were in Africa. No, no, some of them are in
- 23:28France as well and in the UK. But yeah, done everything, you
- 23:34know, with the power of God. The reason why I'm still here
- 23:37today is because of God. He has a plan for me.
- 23:40I don't know what the plan is, but I'm just driving and keep
- 23:44going forward. That's it.
- 23:48That's awesome. That's awesome.
- 23:50I think AI is going to talk about maybe some daily
- 23:53excellence and some things that you do every day just to remain
- 23:58as excellent as you are. So go ahead, AI.
- 24:04Brother Salaam Alaikum. Alaikum Salaam.
- 24:08It's, it's, it's, it's great that you're a person of faith.
- 24:11I'm a Christian, but I also, you know, very much respect the, the
- 24:15Islamic faith. I've read the whole of my own
- 24:18faith scriptures and of course I've read on, you know, some
- 24:21parts of the Quran and I understand like the whole 5
- 24:24pillars of Islam, you know? From the.
- 24:26Hajj to the Salah to, you know, even the arms given, which is a
- 24:32cut, right? And of course, confession of
- 24:35faith. What do you call it again?
- 24:39I've forgotten technical names. And of course that I think that
- 24:42the very last one is you have the pilgrimage as well.
- 24:46It is wonderful to see, you know, Christians and Muslims
- 24:51come together and understand that there's only one God and
- 24:57believe in the higher power and the higher purpose, right?
- 25:00So very much respect to you. And of course, you know, you
- 25:03were talking about God's plan for your life, that there's a
- 25:06part of the Bible that says his plans for us out of good and not
- 25:10of evil and to give unto us unexpected.
- 25:13And you know, so brother, God has great plans for you and we
- 25:16actually wish you, you know, very, very well and of course
- 25:19wish you success in like all of your future endeavours, you
- 25:22know, and Speaking of excellent, Thank you.
- 25:26You're welcome. I've only said it on this
- 25:28podcast that people don't relate to perfection.
- 25:33They relate to excellence. And it's really beautiful that
- 25:36you are a person of excellence and not just a person of
- 25:40excellence. You are authentic.
- 25:42You're you're unfiltered. You're Roy.
- 25:43You are who you are and unapologetic about who you are,
- 25:48you know? Yeah, but that's a big problem.
- 25:50People don't like it. That that is your problem.
- 25:53That is your problem. Even though what I've done is
- 25:56incredible. Brother, I'll, I'll tell you
- 25:59this, I'll tell you this, right? Take it, take a £50 note, right?
- 26:03Take a £50 note, put it on the ground, step on it, put it in a
- 26:07mud, rumble it or take it to the shop.
- 26:11That £50 note will buy the same thing that a creased £50 note
- 26:15will buy, right? Yeah, yeah.
- 26:17Good, so you are that £50 note that has been, you know, robbed
- 26:21boy. It doesn't tarnish your value.
- 26:23Yeah, exactly. Determined by what people say.
- 26:25Your value is determined by what God says.
- 26:29I mean. You get it.
- 26:31So you know the the fight game actually determined.
- 26:34It demands like a mix of fear and focus.
- 26:37Or how do you channel both when you walk out to face another
- 26:42warrior? Because this is not an untrained
- 26:44person. You're fighting another warrior
- 26:47and like how to you stay motivated, you know, with that
- 26:52hunger for excellence. And I also like for you to weave
- 26:56in, you know, as a Big Brother guy or you are a veteran, you
- 26:59are a legend. And I love for you to provide
- 27:01advice to, you know, the young generation of athletes as well.
- 27:06Yeah, I'm, I'm literally very up for that.
- 27:10That's what I said. When I finish my career, I will
- 27:13definitely still be in the martial arts, obviously
- 27:17managing, coaching and doing a whole lot as obviously sharing
- 27:21my knowledge to the younger generation.
- 27:24Yeah, just passing on the words. I've got my son who's three
- 27:27years old. He's going to be 4 on Fight
- 27:30Night so. Happy birthday.
- 27:32Friends, he's already he's already training and he's
- 27:36enjoying it and The thing is that I didn't even make him
- 27:40right. Literally, I just, I just
- 27:42obviously I'd take him to training with me sometimes and
- 27:45and a lot I'd take him with me and yeah, it's just a natural.
- 27:51It's just a natural. He enjoys it and you know, I
- 27:54don't even force him to do it. So yeah, again.
- 27:59The power of Ethan by example. Yeah, exactly.
- 28:02The the God's God's will, man. I didn't, I didn't really, you
- 28:07know, make him want to fight or train.
- 28:12Interesting stuff. You said God's will.
- 28:14There's something you guys say in Islam, Mashallah, meaning God
- 28:17has, God has wielded. So if God has wielded for your
- 28:20son to be a fighter, I guess he definitely will find that
- 28:24calling. And as a veteran fighter, like,
- 28:27how has your training philosophy evolved over the years?
- 28:35Say that again, sorry. OK, I said there's something you
- 28:40guys say in in Islam, right Mashallah and Mashallah means
- 28:43God has God has wield it. So how has it changed over the
- 28:47years? So really I've always been like,
- 28:51I've always been training smart, like literally using the word as
- 28:57it sound, as it, as it what it means, you know, training.
- 29:00So for me, it's always been training.
- 29:03Even when I go into the gym, I'm training, I'm not competing with
- 29:07my my training partner. And that's one thing that most
- 29:11of the fighters don't do. They compete with each other in
- 29:16the gym when really there should be training in the gym, which
- 29:20mean learning new skill, understanding what you're doing,
- 29:25comprehending what works, what don't works, what don't work.
- 29:29Sorry. And yeah, the whole thing.
- 29:32So the whole aspect of what we're doing, so the whole aspect
- 29:36of fighting so and there's so much things.
- 29:40So I don't that's why I sometimes I don't get when I see
- 29:45people coming into MMA and then after three years they're in the
- 29:49UFC and then they get black belt and I'm like, what we talking
- 29:52about? I've been doing this for 10
- 29:55years. This guy definitely if you put
- 29:56this guy in front of me, he's not a black belt.
- 30:00You know, like there's so much things, but everything is
- 30:04changed now. Martial art is a little bit,
- 30:08I'll say the real roots of martial arts are a little bit
- 30:11dying due to the social media stuff, money.
- 30:15Everyone wants to be like, you know, like I said, people are
- 30:20not black belt level and they're getting given black belt level.
- 30:24You know, they're getting given black belts and stuff like that
- 30:27just because of their name or where they compete, not because
- 30:32of the art. So yeah, it's something that I'm
- 30:36not involved in. You know, I like the real roots.
- 30:39That's why I've been doing jiu jitsu for over maybe I think 10
- 30:44years now. And I literally just got my
- 30:46brand belt the other day. Why?
- 30:48Because I don't put the gear enough for me to feel like I'm a
- 30:53black belt. You need to be able to use the
- 30:55gear to comprehend the gear properly.
- 30:58Most of the guys who have a black belt in MMA, if you put
- 31:01them in the gear, they don't know what to do.
- 31:05So yeah, for me, I try. I like to keep things real.
- 31:09So regarding my training, the way I train is I make sure that
- 31:14every day when I leave the gym I've learned something new or
- 31:18I've improved on something that I wasn't, you know, good at
- 31:22before. Or I always go in with not all,
- 31:26but I always go in with a plan of training for the day.
- 31:30And for our audience who might not know, I know you say they
- 31:34don't know what or they don't have proper practise of the Gee,
- 31:37what does that mean? The.
- 31:40Gee and no Gee. Yeah, I was, I was.
- 31:42I was going to touch on that before you talk about it.
- 31:45I'm the bachelor artist here, you know, between me and my Co
- 31:48host and I'm going to put you on the sport, right?
- 31:51So Gee and no Gee jiu jitsu, right.
- 31:54The Gee is like that white coat. That looks like a oh, OK, OK,
- 31:58OK. Fight it.
- 32:00And kimono, yeah, yeah, that that kimono just so that the
- 32:05name man understands, right. And traditionally you'd need to
- 32:09get the ghee that's the traditional jiu jitsu.
- 32:13But you also have the non traditional jiu jitsu, which is
- 32:16the no ghee, right? And no ghee, for example, what
- 32:19you have with GFCBJJ that is going on right now, right?
- 32:22And The thing is, no key competitions have actually come
- 32:26to stay right, even though that is not the traditional.
- 32:30So are you like against the new school in which you have black
- 32:36belts in Noogi And of course, you still have the black belts,
- 32:39the ghee black belts. So I'll, I'll love for you to
- 32:43differentiate and of course talk about it, speak to it.
- 32:46Yeah. So I feel like obviously the
- 32:49Noogi is the the different game. It's so there's so much that you
- 32:55can do in the nogi because there's not the grabbing.
- 32:59So the body is free. It's all about yourself if you
- 33:03are. Sorry to interrupt you.
- 33:05Sorry to interrupt you but I I feel like the Nogi 1 is what is
- 33:09more applicable in MMA. The crash yeah, yeah of.
- 33:12Course. Well, you don't.
- 33:14You're not of. Course.
- 33:16Yeah, of course the nogi is is much better for the for MMA.
- 33:20But for understanding the basic, understanding what you're doing
- 33:24and understanding what jiu jitsu is, you have to put the ghee on.
- 33:27You have to comprehend what jiu jitsu is by putting the ghee on.
- 33:32Obviously no ghee Jiu jitsu is more for obviously MMA and you
- 33:39know, to be a bit loose. It's a different style, like I
- 33:42said, with without the without the ghee, it's more of a
- 33:47personal thing where if you're more flexible, if you're faster,
- 33:53if you're, you know, I don't know.
- 33:55Yeah, like that's a more flexible, faster, better gene.
- 33:59You can always. Find basically.
- 34:01Yeah, you can always find a way out.
- 34:03But with jiu jitsu is 100% technical.
- 34:07You can be strong, you can be, you can be flexible, you can be
- 34:11whatever. But the GI always stays the
- 34:13same, the grips are always the same.
- 34:15So if you don't understand what grip to do at the right time,
- 34:19when to move, what to move, what to block, what to not block,
- 34:23then you're not going anywhere. You can be the strongest person
- 34:26you want. If you don't have the right
- 34:28skill, there's nothing you can do.
- 34:30But in in nogi, you can everything.
- 34:34You can explode out. You can find a way out.
- 34:36If you're flexible, you can get your legs over.
- 34:38There's so much you can do. So yeah, that that's how I see
- 34:43it. For me, it's it's just
- 34:45different. And This is why even more I
- 34:49don't understand when people are getting given a black belt and
- 34:54you never wear the gear. So you're going to, you don't
- 34:56wear the gear, but then you're going to get a black belt and no
- 34:59gear. It's crazy because no GI's got
- 35:02so much more than GI, you know? So like for me it's just, yeah,
- 35:07so I don't get it. But everyone is allowed to do
- 35:09whatever they want. And this is my mindset.
- 35:11This is how I see things. Obviously I've been in a game
- 35:15from a long time now, consistent as well.
- 35:19So yeah, I feel like I'm allowed to, you know, put out an advice
- 35:23from someone that's been in the game for that long.
- 35:27So walk us through like your perfect fight camp, like what it
- 35:33looks like when you're leading up to a major event.
- 35:37Perfect fight Camden Never exist.
- 35:39Me that don't exist. There's always something.
- 35:42The life of a fighter. You always have a little niggo,
- 35:45you always have a little thing. You've got stuff outside of
- 35:49fighting that's made that might be bothering you.
- 35:51Life of a fighter and a training camp.
- 35:54It's yeah, it's something, it's a battle.
- 35:57It's a fight in itself. That's why it's such a good
- 36:01relief. Once you've jumped on the scale
- 36:04and made weight and you know that it's Fight Night tomorrow.
- 36:07It's like finally all the hard work, everything, sacrifice
- 36:12dieting, all that stuff that's done now and just go and join
- 36:15the fight now. Right.
- 36:17So the training itself doesn't really matter because at some
- 36:21point there's going to be some factor either inside of the
- 36:24training or outside of the training that's going to throw
- 36:26you off anyway and you just have to deal with it.
- 36:30Yeah. It's really just about getting
- 36:33the training done. Yeah, exactly.
- 36:35Yeah, it's all about training, the training, getting the
- 36:37training done, obviously accordingly to your opponent.
- 36:40Yeah, that's it. Just keep turning up.
- 36:43Work that game plan that you have with your team and then
- 36:47just, yeah, just go and put it in place on Fight Night.
- 36:52It's easier said than done, but yeah, it's all about that
- 36:55consistency and that hard work. Show up and show out, right?
- 37:01So like, how do you balance the mental aspects and you know, the
- 37:04physical conditioning? So balancing the mental and the
- 37:09physical, that's that's, that's the difficult part.
- 37:15But I feel like it's important to talk to yourself.
- 37:19It's important to get advice from people who are where you
- 37:25want to be. It's important to have a good
- 37:27team around. And yeah, I think that's, yeah,
- 37:33that's the only for me. What gets me going is actually
- 37:38doing what's need to be done. If you know you've trained your
- 37:43hardest at the best you can do, there's nothing else we can do.
- 37:49So doubtful give you that confidence to not, you know,
- 37:52doubt yourself because you gave it all you couldn't have done
- 37:56anymore. So for me that that that's what
- 37:59gets my mind going. So what's your most underrated
- 38:07skill that separates good fighters from great ones?
- 38:11Or you know, a loser to you like what's the one skill or like
- 38:17what's a secret sauce that maybe you have or the greatest
- 38:21fighters have that separates you?
- 38:24What separate the greatest fighters like me and you know,
- 38:28the rest of the great ones is that we have a natural fighting
- 38:32instinct. So we do things without knowing,
- 38:36but it's the right thing. You know, there's people who do
- 38:39things instantly and then, Oh no, that was the wrong move to
- 38:42go for us. It's automatically the right
- 38:45thing. It's it's something that, you
- 38:48know, like we was talking about earlier, it's a God-given
- 38:51ability. I don't, I never decided to be
- 38:53like that. I can't even train that.
- 38:55All I can do is just train what I know and just repeat it and
- 38:59just hope he comes out in the fight.
- 39:03What do you call that fight IQ? Because, you know, in the MMA
- 39:06circle, there's a lot of talk about.
- 39:08No, it's not the same. It's not the same as Fight IQ.
- 39:13Fight IQ is something totally different.
- 39:15Fight IQ is understanding what to do in the fight.
- 39:20What I was talking about is fighting instant when your body
- 39:24just reacts automatically to save you.
- 39:28So yeah, don't you? Think that that that closely
- 39:32linked because you talk about. Are there two different things
- 39:36because. I, I, I'm separating the fight
- 39:38and IQ, right? When you talk about IQ
- 39:41naturally, OK, intellectual caution, right?
- 39:44You see that there are people who become good drivers even
- 39:48without going to driving school. They work with that instinct.
- 39:51There are people who are. Going out.
- 39:53So that's what I'm saying. Yeah.
- 39:55So that's what I'm saying. There's people who can be in the
- 39:57gym and train and do, but then when it comes to Fight Night,
- 40:01they fight. They don't have the natural Ike,
- 40:04but they're the best in the gym, you know?
- 40:06And there's guys who are not the best in the gym, they get beaten
- 40:10up, but when they go into the fight it's like, oh, something
- 40:13else. Because now it's like live or
- 40:15die. So something else comes up.
- 40:18That's what you. Think, I think that that has to
- 40:20do with fear. I think so.
- 40:24Most probably fear or just the will.
- 40:28I'll say fear and the will to win also Yeah.
- 40:34Or will to not get beaten up? Right.
- 40:37Yeah. That, that, that's great.
- 40:40That that's crazy. You know, we've had some guys
- 40:44come from do our promotions into the UFC lately.
- 40:48Case in point, patchy mix, I don't like what has happened
- 40:52with the likes of patchy mix and was the other guy Patricia or
- 40:57people? So it's fighting, but you go
- 41:01step up into a bigger promotion and it feels like you're
- 41:04freezing. So what you talking about about
- 41:07guys who are very good in the team who are naturally good, not
- 41:10going out on Fight Night and freezing.
- 41:14And you know, my Co host talked about the fear.
- 41:17So I I think the fear factor is also a thing, But what do you
- 41:21think is actually beautiful to these recent, you know, step UPS
- 41:25from PFL Bellator guys going to the UFC and not being the
- 41:30killers that we used to know them as from like the lower
- 41:33promotions when they were fighting because they still ever
- 41:36made you fighting. Yeah.
- 41:39So what what would you attribute to that to?
- 41:42Is it also like the fear factor or maybe they've been
- 41:45overwhelmed by stepping up to like a bigger promotion?
- 41:49For me, I would love to to, yeah, to carry on.
- 41:53You're asking if I'm if I want to if I like to go to a bigger
- 41:56promotion? No.
- 41:57No, no, I'm saying that these guys, we've seen these guys come
- 42:01in from Bellator BFL right into the BFC, right, in recent times
- 42:05and not putting in good performances, right?
- 42:08So what happens? You know, as a fighter, you have
- 42:11that mentality of the fighter, you have that killer mentality,
- 42:14right? And we saw these guys, they were
- 42:16killers from Bellator, from PFL, but step into the AFC is a big
- 42:20step up and it's like they freeze and they are not able to
- 42:24replicate those performances. We've seen you from Cage
- 42:26Warriors, you know, come to grave and you're still
- 42:29performing. But what happens when these guys
- 42:31change promotions and they're not able to replicate that level
- 42:34of excellence they used to showcase?
- 42:36It's just the, it's just the level of, it's just the level of
- 42:39fighters in the show really. You know, you can come from, for
- 42:43example, the level of fighters on obviously Kedrus.
- 42:45I haven't fought on Kedrus since maybe 2018.
- 42:48I was on Octagon before coming to Brave, so yeah, it's that's
- 42:54what that's what sometimes you're in, you're in an
- 42:58organisation and you're at the top of the organisation.
- 43:01You're one of the best fighters and you go to another
- 43:03organisation. And then there's the level of
- 43:06fighting is different. You got guys from different
- 43:09places and yeah, you might not feel yourself there and it's
- 43:14part of the game. You can you just go, yeah, adapt
- 43:18yourself and just know what's what you're good at and what
- 43:22you're not good at and where you can go and just be real with
- 43:25yourself, really. Interesting, so I'll give it
- 43:30over to you the my Co host to quiz your what what she bigs
- 43:36about what I say these common cart.
- 43:41It's a very special one. Breathe CF 100.
- 43:44That's a milestone. That is a milestone that you're
- 43:48part of it. Obviously this event, it marks a
- 43:54very proud moment with not just you, but for African athletes on
- 43:59the card. What does this representation
- 44:03mean to you personally? So brave.
- 44:08CF100 It marks a super proud moment not just with you, but
- 44:13four different African African athletes on the card.
- 44:18What does that representation mean to you personally, and how
- 44:23do you handle the pressure of representing an entire continent
- 44:28in front of the entire world? For me, it's not pressure.
- 44:32It's what I do. That's what I want to do.
- 44:34That's why we're the crown, you know?
- 44:36That's why I put it out there. I want to push this sport to my,
- 44:42you know, follow country of Ivory Coast.
- 44:45So, you know, guys can leave off the sport, you know, just like
- 44:50how I leave off the sport and, you know, by using my physical
- 44:55ability given by God. So I know I've got loads of
- 44:58cousins, step brothers, friends and lots of people who are in
- 45:02Africa who have better physical ability than me, but they don't
- 45:07have the facility, they don't have, you know, anything for
- 45:12them to get to it. So, you know, showing them that
- 45:14there's someone from the country who's doing it at the top and
- 45:19who also wants to share. It's not a pressure for me, it's
- 45:22more like a duty. So it drives me to do it like
- 45:27knowing that this is, you know, happening and you know, the
- 45:33opportunity is there. It's a motivation.
- 45:36It's not a pressure. That's awesome.
- 45:40That's so awesome to hear. We're just going to do a quick
- 45:44fire around. AI is going to explain that, and
- 45:47then we'll wrap it up and let you go.
- 45:49I know you have to rest and recover.
- 45:51You got a lot going on. So yeah.
- 45:55No pressure makes diamonds, brother.
- 45:56So yeah, I was just. I was going to say.
- 45:59That on the five pressure questions 5 pressure questions
- 46:02quick fire round fun and insightful.
- 46:04So just give the most authentic and quick answer you can keep.
- 46:09Are you ready to? Rumble, let's go.
- 46:14Let's go, brother. So the very first question, your
- 46:17walk out song before a title fight, what is that going to be?
- 46:22I don't have a special workout walkout song, I just choose on
- 46:27the moment so I don't know yet. You'll have to see on the night.
- 46:31OK, who's the toughest opponent you've ever faced?
- 46:36The toughest opponent I've ever faced, I think it was some guy
- 46:41called Carlos Vemola, because he was full of everything, every
- 46:46possible possible performance, announcement stuff.
- 46:51Wow, he was just up, you know, so while.
- 46:54You can watch the fight, it's on YouTube.
- 46:57OK, he's. David's Carlos Vemola OK, the
- 47:01five round title fight, but this guy is like, he doesn't look,
- 47:05he's not human. Superhuman.
- 47:09I'll I'll, I'll watch it. I'll give a feedback.
- 47:11So what's one African dish you cannot live without?
- 47:15Of course, the official Ivorian dish, which is called the
- 47:19acheke. You know, actually what is it
- 47:23made out out of? Cassava.
- 47:26Wow. Cassava.
- 47:27There is cassava drained up, dried up and then like turned
- 47:32into like a couscous kind of thing.
- 47:35And we eat that with fish. We eat that with plantain.
- 47:37We eat that with grilled chicken and a bit of like spicy stuff.
- 47:42It's it's it's a traditional Ivorian food.
- 47:45Yeah. We have something like that in
- 47:48Nigeria called Gary. Gary Yeah, yeah, it's a bit
- 47:51similar, yeah. Cool, cool.
- 47:54That sounds really good. What are three words that
- 47:59describe your mindset going into Brave?
- 48:01CF 103 words. 03 words. I've got more than three, but
- 48:09purpose, faith and peace. I love that purpose.
- 48:19Favourite. Calm before the storm, calm
- 48:22before the storm. I love that.
- 48:24And of course, finish the sentence.
- 48:25A true champion is on dash. Who shows the example?
- 48:33A true champion is the one that shows the example so people can
- 48:37look at him and say I want to be a champion like him.
- 48:41I love that because there's something I've said on the
- 48:44podcast before, what is important is not the example of
- 48:48your power or the power of your example.
- 48:51And you know, I love that you love to lead by example from me
- 48:55and of course my Co host. It's a very, very big thank you
- 48:58to you. Of course, when a person shares
- 49:00their time with you, they share their life with you.
- 49:02And the Sr uniform version in life is time.
- 49:04So love and respect to you brother.
- 49:07And of course, we wish you the very best in your title fight.
- 49:10And of course over to my brilliant and beautiful Co host
- 49:13Doyle Arouk. Yeah, I just want to thank you
- 49:16for your time and your energy and everything you do just to
- 49:20represent all the people like you, the entire all of the
- 49:23cultures that you represent, not just representing a man of
- 49:27faith, a man of purpose, a man of drive, a man of excellence.
- 49:32It just shows the impact that your longevity is going to make
- 49:36for generations to generations. When you look at your son and he
- 49:41is looking up to you, just know that it's not even obviously not
- 49:45just him. It's the ripple effect of your
- 49:49greatness, of your strive, of your resilience and of your
- 49:53ability to never give up on the purpose that God has over you
- 49:57reaches much farther than you can even imagine right now.

- 51:11We talk about stuff that are important.
- 51:14We talk about stuff that are human.
- 51:16So for me, it's very important nowadays because of all the
