- 1:09study. Lord, we know that we'll never
- 1:13touch the the bottom. Lord, we know that there is
- 1:18unsearchable truths. God, we know that you are deep
- 1:24and you call out to deep. Father, Spirit Lord cries out to
- 1:31Spirit. Lord, we're thankful for the
- 1:35healing that is on your wings. Father, we are thankful for the
- 1:40divine appointments. God, we're thankful for your
- 1:45sacrifice. We're thankful for your mercies
- 1:47that are new every day. We're thankful for the cross and
- 1:51Calvary. We'll thank.
- 1:52We are so thankful for our food and raiment, God.
- 1:57We're so thankful, Lord Jesus Christ, for what you've done for
- 2:04us, what you have wrought for us on the cross.
- 2:10Lord, I pray for forgiveness. Lord.
- 2:14Lord, I pray that you'll put your finger on any unconfessed
- 2:18sin. God, I pray that you will
- 2:21highlight anything in my life, Father, that does not belong.
- 2:27Lord, I pray that you'll give me the strength.
- 2:31Lord, You'll give us the strength, God, to be able to
- 2:36purge out and to cleanse the temple and to burn away all the
- 2:43dross. God, I pray that we'll lay all
- 2:46of our iniquities and sins and trespasses, God in a heap, God,
- 2:52and burn them. Father, in the name of Jesus.
- 2:58God, I pray that you will help us to not be LED into temptation
- 3:02today. God, we rebuke the devourer.
- 3:06God, in the name of Jesus, the Lord rebukes thee.
- 3:10Satan, get behind us, Satan, in the name of Jesus Christ.
- 3:16Lord, we're going to live on purpose.
- 3:17We're going to live with power. We're going to live, God, the
- 3:23way that you would desire for us to, Lord, help us not to be
- 3:29distracted. Help us to not be despondent,
- 3:32God, but we want to be yours and marked by your goodness and
- 3:36grace and mercy and love and joy and patience and peace.
- 3:40God, in the name of Jesus, I pray healing.
- 3:43Father, in the name of Jesus, I pray for clarity.
- 3:46God, give us a sound mind. Let us take every thought
- 3:50captive, God, in the name of Jesus, Lord, reveal to us
- 3:54eternal truths. Father, and where you are, we
- 3:58desire to be. God, Come and take residence up
- 4:03in our hearts and minds and bodies, our spirits and soul.
- 4:08God, we just want you. We want more of you, Father, we
- 4:13desire a greater measure. Father, heap on to us a greater
- 4:19measure of your power, Lord, and understanding God.
- 4:29Lord, we just, we want to see you.
- 4:32Lord, let us see, let us see you.
- 4:35Father, help us today. Lord, help us to extend mercy
- 4:40out to those all around us, for yours is the Kingdom of glory
- 4:47and of power, forever and ever. Amen.
- 4:52Let's start in verse one then. Was Jesus LED up of the Spirit
- 5:01into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil?
- 5:08How ridiculous is this enemy of ours?
- 5:15You know what I used to tell my children?
- 5:19You're no match for the devil, you no match for the demonic.
- 5:24They will overpower you 10 times out of 10 when you're moving in
- 5:28your own strength. But praise God, Hallelujah.
- 5:34When you bring the name of Jesus Christ on your lips, praise God,
- 5:37Hallelujah. When you're full of the Spirit
- 5:39of God, praise God, Hallelujah. Just that name dispels all
- 5:44darkness. Bring that name upon your lips
- 5:47today, friends. It's the name of Jesus that
- 5:52overcomes. There is power in that name,
- 5:59Wonder, working power. It breaks every chain, too.
- 6:08And when he had fasted 40 days and 40 nights, he was afterward
- 6:13hungry. So 40 days and 40 nights.
- 6:22This is likened all the way back to Moses when he was up on the
- 6:25mountain. We can see Jesus Christ here,
- 6:31fasting and being fueled by the Holy Spirit, being fueled by
- 6:38God. I don't know friends, if you've
- 6:42ever tried to fast for any length of time, I'm not sure if
- 6:47it gets any easier, but it's pretty difficult.
- 6:52And here you can see Jesus Christ because he was all God
- 6:57and all man. Here he is able to fast 40 days
- 7:02and this is a literal fasting of taking no food for 40 days.
- 7:14This would be a very difficult task in these hunger pains would
- 7:21be a signal that he's close to death that he is starving away
- 7:29and his body is is giving him indicators that if it doesn't
- 7:33get nutrient soon is going to cease with the functions 3 And
- 7:42when the tempter came to him, he said if you are the son of God,
- 7:47command these stones to be made bread.
- 7:52So here he's asking Jesus to act autonomously apart from God.
- 7:59He's asking Jesus to use his divinity to command the stones
- 8:06to become bread. Let's see what Jesus has to say
- 8:10to old Satan for but he answered and he said it is written, man
- 8:18shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds
- 8:22out of the mouth of God. So here Jesus is going to
- 8:26reference the book Deuteronomy. He's going to reference chapter
- 8:306 and chapter 8. He's going to reference it three
- 8:33times here. And that is our call, friends.
- 8:38Our call is to use the entire council of God's Word to defend
- 8:42ourselves against all the attacks of the enemy.
- 8:45Let no unwholesome talk come from your mouth, but only that
- 8:49which is for the edification of the Saints.
- 8:52Friends, we need to make sure that we respond out loud.
- 8:56Respond vocally and verbally to the enemy, not just inwardly.
- 9:01Don't just process things inwardly.
- 9:04Speak it out loud and command the darkness to flee in the name
- 9:08of Jesus Christ. Use the Word of God.
- 9:11Use the sound counsel of Genesis to Revelation to dispel darkness
- 9:17in your life and in your house and in your room and in your car
- 9:21and in your workplace. Friends 5 Then the devil took
- 9:27him up into the holy city and set him on a pinnacle of the
- 9:31temple. So here he's he's got him about
- 9:34200 feet up in the air. Perhaps like in Ezekiel, he had
- 9:40taken him there in the Spirit. Perhaps this was a literal Jesus
- 9:45was led up to this high place overlooking, and here comes
- 9:50Satan and he's going to talk to him.
- 9:53What did he say? He said, if you are the Son of
- 9:55God, cast yourself down. For it is written, He shall give
- 10:00his angels charge concerning you, and in their hands shall he
- 10:04bear you up, lest it at any time you dash your foot against a
- 10:09stone. So here the devil is trying
- 10:14again. Second attempt.
- 10:18He actually does the same thing to Jesus that he did to Eve in
- 10:24the Garden. And he twists scripture.
- 10:27And just so you know, it is like a coach on the football field
- 10:33handing the coach on the opposite side his playbook and
- 10:37saying, here's all the routes that we're going to run this
- 10:40game and we're still going to defeat you.
- 10:43And that's what God has done. God has handed Satan his entire
- 10:49playbook and said I'm still going to beat you because there
- 10:53is no competition there. God allows Satan to do what he's
- 11:00doing. And Satan is so ignorant and
- 11:03Satan is so prideful and full of so much hubris that somehow,
- 11:07someway he thinks he can thwart the plans of God.
- 11:11And God Almighty is just using him to reveal the true
- 11:16intentions of man today. Friends, so many of us in this
- 11:21day and this age are choosing to go to hell.
- 11:26God's not sending us there. We have chosen it.
- 11:31And here Satan is using God's word.
- 11:33And how many ministers of our day, how many pastors of our
- 11:37day, how many church leaders of our day are twisting scripture
- 11:41for their own benefit? Friends and the heresy is thick.
- 11:49Whenever we say that the gays are OK, Whenever we say that
- 11:57it's OK to mutilate children, whenever we say that it's a
- 12:04woman's choice to abort. There's so much heresy within
- 12:09the Church, friends, and all we have to do is study the Word of
- 12:12God and see. The heart is for the family
- 12:16unit. The heart is for children.
- 12:19The heart of God is for all people everywhere and so many of
- 12:28us choose to stiff arm God and the goodness of God in what His
- 12:31Word says and that is why it's so important to get rooted in
- 12:35the Word of God and not just cherry pick verses 7.
- 12:42Jesus said unto him, It is written again, You shall not
- 12:46tempt the Lord your God. So here Jesus is combating
- 12:51Scripture with Scripture. There's so many pastors who are
- 12:55taking Scripture out of context and they're trying to twist it
- 13:00for their own benefit. And it's no different.
- 13:03Jesus saw right through it and Jesus was able to combat it.
- 13:07And that is what we need to do when we rightly divide the word
- 13:11of God. Friends 8 Again, the devil took
- 13:14him into an exceeding high mountain, and he showed them all
- 13:17the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them.
- 13:21So just remember this. Satan is called the Prince of
- 13:24the air. Just remember that Satan was
- 13:27cast down to the earth. Just remember that God is
- 13:31allowing Satan to have the dominion over the limited
- 13:38resources that he has. And we just need to go and study
- 13:41the book of Job to see that Satan has the power to enter
- 13:47into the throne room of God, and God can allow it.
- 13:51And God shows him who the Saints are.
- 13:55And then there's this testing and there's this tempting that
- 14:00comes in, and God never tempts us to do wrong.
- 14:05He always provides a way out. But there is this dance that the
- 14:11Lord allows, and he shows Satan his Saints, and Satan is able to
- 14:18try and sift them. And these are biblical
- 14:21principles, and you might not agree with them or you might not
- 14:24like him, but it doesn't change the facts, friends, of how it's
- 14:27all working all around us. And God's ways are not our ways.
- 14:31And praise God that He knows better.
- 14:34And praise God that He uses the enemy to highlight things in our
- 14:40lives that do not belong. And here we can see in the
- 14:46temptation of Jesus that He overcame the enemy.
- 14:49He was able to subdue the enemy. And we have the same power even
- 14:54within us, friends. We have the Word of God, which
- 14:58is our sword, and we are able to combat him by putting on the
- 15:04full armor of God and able to subdue him and to completely get
- 15:10him behind us for a time. And he'll always look for these
- 15:16opportune times whenever we start making it all about
- 15:20ourselves, when we start letting pride creep in and greed creep
- 15:25in. And then Satan will come in and
- 15:27he'll tempt us away from the goodness of God.
- 15:30And we need to be guarded from all of these temptations,
- 15:36friends. And Jesus was able to, and he
- 15:38showed us the model of how to combat the devil.
- 15:43He showed him the kingdoms of the world and he wanted Jesus to
- 15:49bow down and to worship him. Because the nature of Satan is
- 15:55no different than what we read in Isaiah 14, what we read in
- 15:59Ezekiel 28, that the nature hasn't changed of Satan.
- 16:03He desires to be like God. He desires to be worshipped.
- 16:07He wants to be higher than God, and he knows his end is near the
- 16:13lake of fire. It is near, Friends.
- 16:16It's nearer today than it was yesterday, and he knows it well.
- 16:20And that is why he is flailing in this day and this hour.
- 16:24He's grasping at straws in this day and this hour, because he
- 16:28knows that his head is going to be crushed. 9 And he said unto
- 16:34him, All these things I will give you, if you will fall down
- 16:37and worship me. How pathetic. 10 And then Jesus
- 16:41said unto him, Kit, you Satan, behind me, for it is written,
- 16:49You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you
- 16:53serve. And that is a word for us today.
- 16:55Tell Satan to get behind you and remind him of his end, that we
- 17:02are only to worship God Almighty.
- 17:04We're not worshiping self. We're not worshiping vanity.
- 17:07We're not worshiping money. We're not worshiping any of the
- 17:12power and the greed and all of the things of the world.
- 17:16We are not worshiping materialism.
- 17:18We're not worshiping our own self.
- 17:22We are only going to worship God and God alone.
- 17:27He is the only one who is worthy of our worship, friends.
- 17:34Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and
- 17:37ministered unto him, and God knew he needed it.
- 17:41Perhaps they brought him manna. Perhaps they brought him this
- 17:46nourishment to get him back on track.
- 17:49They ministered unto him, praise the Lord. 12 Now when Jesus had
- 17:57heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into
- 18:01Galilee. So here we're getting to see
- 18:06some of the things that the other Gospel writers are going
- 18:08to expound upon. But we just know that John was
- 18:13here thrown into prison. So now Jesus is coming out of
- 18:17the water straight into temptation, out of temptation,
- 18:22straight into his earthly ministry. 13 And leaving
- 18:27Nazareth, he came and dwelt at Capernaum, which is upon the
- 18:31seacoast in the borders of Zebulon and Nepheli.
- 18:36So if you were paying attention back there in the Old Testament,
- 18:41this Zebulon and Naphtali, they were mentioned and we're going
- 18:44to talk about it 14 that it might be fulfilled, which was
- 18:49spoken by Isaiah the prophet saying, 15 the land of Zebulon
- 18:54and the land of Nephilim by the way of the sea beyond Jordan and
- 18:59Galilee of the Gentiles. And then we're going to hear
- 19:02what he had to say in Isaiah. That was a messianic prophecy
- 19:06here that is being fulfilled. 16 The people which sat in darkness
- 19:11saw great light, and to them which sat in the region and
- 19:16shadow of death, light sprung up.
- 19:20And that is Jesus coming into that region, and he's blessing
- 19:24them with his presence. And we know that a prophet is
- 19:28without honor in his hometown. And so Jesus went out of
- 19:34Nazareth, and Jesus left and went to Capernaum, and he
- 19:39blessed them, and they got to see the great light shining in
- 19:44the darkness. 17 From that time Jesus began to preach and to
- 19:51say, What did he say? Repent, for the Kingdom of
- 19:54heaven is at hand. That is what John the Baptist
- 19:57was saying. So John the Baptist is locked
- 19:59up. And now Jesus shows up on the
- 20:02scene and he says the same thing.
- 20:04Repent the Kingdom of heaven. Is near and that is our call
- 20:11today, friends. We need to go out into the
- 20:14highways and the hedges. We need to go out into the
- 20:17byways. We need to go out to the
- 20:19overpasses. We need to go out and proclaim
- 20:22that the Kingdom of heaven is at hand.
- 20:25It's closer today than it was yesterday, friends, and you do
- 20:29not want to be swallowed up in that day and not be connected to
- 20:34him and not give your life to him.
- 20:38You do not want to be those that perish. 18 And Jesus, walking by
- 20:45the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and
- 20:50Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were
- 20:54Fisher. So here we can see the calling
- 20:58of Simon and Andrew. We can see that they were
- 21:01fishermen. And what did Jesus say?
- 21:0319 And he said to them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers
- 21:08of men. So he's showing them these
- 21:14simple unlearned men, they were not worthy to be part of the
- 21:20Sanhedrin. They were not worthy to be part
- 21:23of the Pharisees and the Sadducees and the priests of
- 21:27that day in the temple. They were just simple men and
- 21:32that is a word to us today. He still calls the unlearned to
- 21:37take the word of God to the whole world.
- 21:39Do not get caught up in the fact that you didn't go to seminary.
- 21:44Don't get caught up in the fact that you are just a lawyer or a
- 21:49doctor or that you are just a teacher or a mechanic.
- 21:54God calls us into the circle of influence that we have to be the
- 21:59great high priest of that area. We need to be able to share the
- 22:08Word of God with everybody that we meet.
- 22:10And it starts by learning it and owning it and hiding it for
- 22:14yourself, friends. 20 And they straightway left their Nets and
- 22:21followed him. Praise God for their immediate
- 22:23obedience. 21 And going from there, he saw two other
- 22:28brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother,
- 22:32in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their Nets, and
- 22:35he called them. So here again, fisherman 22 and
- 22:41they immediately left their ship and their father and they
- 22:43followed him. Imagine that friends, here goes
- 22:47Jesus and he's coming out of the temptation.
- 22:50And he sees these men who are fishing, four of them.
- 22:53And he says, hey guys, come and follow me and I will make you
- 22:56fishers of men. They immediately left their
- 22:59ship. Are you able?
- 23:00Do you live a life? Here's a little caveat, brother,
- 23:07Sister St. Do you live a life where you're
- 23:16able to let everything go in a moment's notice?
- 23:19Do you live your life with your hands, your palms wide open?
- 23:24Are you holding everything loosely?
- 23:26That if God says go, you can go? Because that is the Great
- 23:31Commission, friends, many of us have so many cares of this world
- 23:37that is choking us out from the calling that God has placed on
- 23:40our lives. And Jesus went about all Galilee
- 23:54teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel of the
- 23:57Kingdom and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of
- 24:03disease among the people. Praise God, Hallelujah, praise
- 24:06God for Jesus is healing. This is on his wings.
- 24:10Praise God for the Sun of Righteousness that is dawned
- 24:13upon the land here. Praise God.
- 24:15And we learned a little bit about these synagogues.
- 24:18These were the circles that the men and women of the Jewish
- 24:26nation had formed in exile and coming out of exile.
- 24:31And they this was not the temple of the Lord.
- 24:33These were like little outposts where they would sit around and
- 24:37discuss the law. And here Jesus enters into them,
- 24:42and he preaches the gospel, which is the good news of the
- 24:46Kingdom. And then to prove his authority,
- 24:50he's able to heal all manner of disease and sickness.
- 24:57Verse 24. And his fame went throughout all
- 25:00Syria, and they brought unto him all the sick people that were
- 25:04taken with diverse diseases and torments, and those which were
- 25:08possessed with devils, and those which were lunatic, and those
- 25:13that had the palsy. And he healed them.
- 25:16You know, today and our day and our hour, we just medicate all
- 25:19of them. We give them a little tag and we
- 25:24tell them to take medication. And all we're doing is we're
- 25:29suppressing the demonic. And by the power of the name of
- 25:34Jesus Christ, we are able to lay hands and to drive out the
- 25:38demonic friends. And that might be a scary thing,
- 25:45and that might be something that is offensive to those who have
- 25:50loved ones who suffer from mental illness and suffer, but
- 25:57the by and large, the vast majority of it is cured by the
- 26:02name of Jesus Christ. I've seen so many people who
- 26:09suffer from mental illness be cured in a moment just by the
- 26:14name of Jesus Christ, by acknowledging him as their
- 26:19Savior. They're healed in a moment.
- 26:22Praise God. 25 And there followed him great multitudes of
- 26:27people from Galilee and from decapitals and from Jerusalem
- 26:31and from Judea and from beyond the Jordan.
- 26:35And what they wanted was a military leader to come.
- 26:38They wanted the gifts more than they wanted the giver.
- 26:42They wanted the presents more than they wanted His presence.
- 26:46They wanted the food more than they wanted a Savior.
- 26:51And He was amassing an army. What they thought was to take
- 26:56over and overthrow the Roman oppression there in the land.
- 27:01But Jesus is going to flip the script soon.
- 27:05I hope you've been blessed by this chapter here and Matthew.
- 27:08I know I sure have. I'm praying for every single one
- 27:11of you. I love you.
- 27:16So does God. See you back here tomorrow.
- 27:20God bless you.
