Transcript
- 0:47None. What's up everybody, it's your
- 1:07boy Kefi at ghostcultman.com. I'm here with a little bit of a
- 1:10late Night Live stream. White Kisser is here and Bro
- 1:15Cardi is here. Hello.
- 1:16Hello. Thought I would jump on to talk
- 1:20about what is going on with Cradle Phil.
- 1:24It's been If you've been following the news and you had
- 1:28some whiplash as a result of this, I am not surprised.
- 1:33We have to. And I think I want to bring up
- 1:36some things that I don't think regular people understand about
- 1:40the music business, about what it is to be a touring artist,
- 1:48what that looks like when you are not the owner of a band or
- 1:51the founding member of a band or the main people in the band
- 1:56incorporated. I think there's a lot of
- 1:57misconceptions about how much money people make and what, if
- 2:01anything, they have or entitles them to.
- 2:06And I don't think I would have made a video about this if the
- 2:12aspersions being cast were not so serious or severe.
- 2:16I will throw out out front that I have nothing but respect for
- 2:20Cradle Of Filth. I've interviewed Danny and met
- 2:22him a few times, always been very nice and professional.
- 2:26Some of the other team members of the band we've met before,
- 2:29some of the members of management that have been called
- 2:32out if you will. I'm very fond of personally and
- 2:36know for a long time and work with for a long time
- 2:40professionally as a journalist and I don't think I've ever seen
- 2:46something like this in very small instances, you know,
- 2:51you've seen very public dust UPS with former members of corn,
- 2:55you've seen Slipknot indoor lawsuits and a lot of judgement
- 3:00laden things from their people, fans and former bandmates and
- 3:06business partners alike. Unsurprisingly, you know, if you
- 3:14sometimes dare to bump back publicly in air dirty laundry,
- 3:19you are treated rather shabbily, and that's just a fact.
- 3:28So yeah, I'm just going to share this around for a second.
- 3:32Hold on, make sure we're going live everywhere.
- 3:35Jump in and comment if you have an opinion on this situation and
- 3:40check it out because I think it's super interesting.
- 3:42And if you're watching this for the first time, if you're new
- 3:45here, ghostcultmag.com is your 24/7 news source.
- 3:50We do music reviews, album reviews, about 5 to 600 a year,
- 3:55concert and festival reviews all over the world.
- 3:58And we interview a lot of bands on our YouTube with little
- 4:02vitables pieces of content on other sofos.
- 4:06What's up to Joe Steel toes? Skull bashers back, Frank is
- 4:10here. What's up, everybody?
- 4:11Happy late night. And we're here to talk a little
- 4:14Cradle Of Filth, in case you are interested.
- 4:17If you're not interested, that's cool too, because you know, it
- 4:19can't be for everybody. But I thought I would come on
- 4:22and talk about this because I think it bears discussing a
- 4:28little bit about, you know, just what's going on in the world and
- 4:33what's like. These things are not new, but
- 4:37they are. I'm surprised by this turn of
- 4:40events. I'm surprised Anya is also here
- 4:45and a few others. So thanks for being here and
- 4:48watching. You can watch anybody else's
- 4:50stuff, but here you are. So thank you, appreciate you
- 4:54very much. Thanks for all those watching on
- 4:55the tube of you feel free to tune in and say hi.

- 5:38We did a live screen review last week of Deftones.

- 5:42lately. We reviewed the new Deftones
- 5:45album. We did a another album review
- 5:47and vinyl unboxing last week of insight.
- 5:52I also did a live review of the 9 Inch Nails show I saw because
- 5:55it was so amazing. I wanted to talk about it and it
- 5:57seemed like a lot of people were curious about it too.
- 6:02So we're here late on Tuesday. Again, we're talking about all
- 6:06the drama and lineup changes of Cradle Of Filth.
- 6:08I'm going to attempt in the best of my ability.
- 6:10I am not an inside person with knowledge of the situation.
- 6:14I only know what's been reported and discussed.
- 6:18So we're going to be dealing in facts, not making assumptions,
- 6:21not casting aspersions. We're just going to replay the
- 6:25story and then give some feedback to maybe light the way
- 6:29a little bit. Miss for Melinda, Why Laurie RX

- 8:35I might do another live stream tomorrow.
- 8:37I did a poll on our YouTube about content, but also I'm here
- 8:42every Thursday afternoon with the weekly ritual, our Rocket
- 8:45Metal News, weekly recap, all the new music coming out, the
- 8:50major stories and drama like this one, interviews we've done
- 8:54on the channel, and usually some merch, unboxing or something
- 8:59like that. Hot Wheels stun is here.
- 9:00Tom, Rick Bone is here. Thanks for being here.
- 9:04Kenneth Kaltenbach, what's up? Welcome back.
- 9:08So yeah, we're doing the thing we're talking about Cradle
- 9:11Filth, and let's just dial it back for a second before we get
- 9:14into the drama. Cradle Filth is probably more
- 9:18successful than they have ever been in their whole career.
- 9:21They are doing things at a level headlining festivals all over
- 9:24the world, mounting huge headline tours, cross countries,
- 9:29cross continents. Their last record streaming, the
- 9:34Valkyries did very well to the fact that they're repressing
- 9:37vinyl and offering new packages and things.
- 9:41You need to audition for Cradle. Good.
- 9:43Thank God they don't do any sweeping arpeggios.
- 9:45I mean, there was a time when they did, but I hear what you're
- 9:47saying. They're not exactly Derby
- 9:49Borgier or Behemoth, but I hear what you're saying, Ken.
- 9:52But maybe not a great thing, you know, maybe a mixed bag, but
- 9:56again, and maybe the mixed bag, not of Cradle Of Filth, but the
- 9:59mixed bag of being a touring musician and not having
- 10:02ownership in a band. And that's what I'm going to
- 10:04talk about because I think people don't understand that.
- 10:07But Cradle is doing about as well as they've ever done in
- 10:09their 34 year history. Danny Filth is the, you know,
- 10:13long, you know, the mainstay. It's his band.
- 10:16You know, they have had something like 47 members beside
- 10:22Danny. They have had many people leave
- 10:24over the years. That does happen in bands.
- 10:27No band almost that you love has the same long term members and
- 10:33you could make an All Star band out of, you know, people who
- 10:38have been in the band. They've actually had a few
- 10:40people pass away, but you know, they have some members, some
- 10:45classic considered to be classic members of the band.
- 10:49And it's tough to lose a long, long term members like Ashok and
- 10:55even Zoe Marie Fedorov, who, you know, instigated this whole
- 10:59thing starting by leaving over the weekend.
- 11:02You know, three years is is respectable.
- 11:04Their last keyboardist was in for two, plus Annabella, Rod
- 11:09Rodney. So yeah, it's definitely
- 11:13difficult to keep a band together.
- 11:16And I mean, at this point, Mark, this might be the longest
- 11:21standing drummer in the band, if I'm not mistaken.
- 11:26But anyway, Cradle is hugely successful.
- 11:29Their management is the Oracle management run by Desfar and his
- 11:32wife Anastasia. Again, I have nothing but
- 11:35admiration for Danny. I've spoken to him, he's
- 11:38wonderful. I met him in person, he seems
- 11:40great. Maybe not to be in a bandwidth,
- 11:42but as far as Dez and his wife, I can say that I know them to be
- 11:47fair. Tough, but fair, and they have
- 11:51been instrumental in, again, making Cradle as big as they
- 11:54have ever been. They're also working with a
- 11:56bunch of other bands in addition to Dez's bands.
- 11:58Coal Chamber and Devil Driver, of course, Black Satellite is
- 12:03also managed by the Oracle and they are one of the rising bands
- 12:07in rock and metal right now. They did a whole tour opening
- 12:11for Marilyn Manson. Whatever you want to say, Manson
- 12:13is huge and you know, all due respect, but at the same time
- 12:21what is happening? So again, I think there's a lot
- 12:25going on. In fact, there's some things
- 12:27that maybe are not understood. I am trying to understand what's
- 12:31going on as well. I don't claim to have all the
- 12:33answers. I know a little bit, a little
- 12:36bit about the music business. That's what I know.
- 12:38Crayola Field is in the middle of their South American tour
- 12:41that launched last weekend. And just as the tour began, Zo
- 12:45Marie Fedorov took to her social media to announce she was
- 12:49leaving the band. Then I try to give this, you
- 12:54know, in the proper context, so you know.
- 13:00Zoe posted over the weekend. It is with deep regret that I
- 13:06share. For personal reasons, I am
- 13:08unable to continue this tour and continue in general with Cradle
- 13:12Of Filth. Please respect my privacy and my
- 13:14family's privacy. I will answer no further
- 13:17questions. Be kind to my successor.
- 13:20I wish her and my now former bandmates well, at least like
- 13:23Roy Khan said over a decade ago, Roy Khan of Camelot, God was
- 13:27there after all. Yours.
- 13:29So. So, you know, seemed pretty
- 13:32innocuous. Not great to leave in the tour
- 13:35in the middle of the tour, the beginning of the tour, you know,
- 13:38in a foreign country. I assume she traveled with them.
- 13:42What's up? J Rod, how are you doing?
- 13:43Local hoodlum is also here. What's up?
- 13:44What's up, Michael? Timothy, you know, not easy to
- 13:50do when you're in a foreign country to up and leave the tour
- 13:53you're on. It cannot be easy.
- 13:55Cannot be, you know, a lightly made decision, I'll say, can't
- 14:01be taken lightly. So Zoe makes this post and then
- 14:06Danny comments basically later that day, he makes an Instagram
- 14:12post. A strange turn of events have
- 14:15manifested here on tour for Cradle Of Filth in South
- 14:18America. Keyboardist, that being singer
- 14:20Zoe Schmerda. So Marie Federoff has chosen to
- 14:24leave the band mid tour, effective immediately.
- 14:27We of course wish her all the best for the future and we as a
- 14:29band will continue onward and upward.
- 14:31As always, the replacement singer here in Kelsey Peters,
- 14:35one of the very talented Crudle members.
- 14:38Like Cradle, but Crudle. Thanks for new people tuning in.
- 14:42Appreciate you watching on YouTube.
- 14:47In Life 1 cannot always foresee what future holds for us, but we
- 14:50remain ever professional in continuing with the screaming of
- 14:52the Americas concerts for our fans without allowing any of
- 14:56this to sully our onward trajectory.
- 14:59So our South and Central American brethren, we will see
- 15:02you with the next spat of relentless shows.
- 15:05The shows have already been incredible in Brazil and we are
- 15:07just so exceptionally appreciative of your massive and
- 15:10passionate attendance. My friends, friends and friends
- 15:14alike. Long live the filth, Danny.
- 15:17Filth. Buenos Aires, Argentina.
- 15:21So you know, it seems like all is OK.
- 15:23Doesn't seem bad, seems OK, seems like it's going to be all
- 15:26right. Then a shock posts that he is
- 15:34leaving. He's leaving the band, so he
- 15:40writes, he writes a post, dear fans and friends.
- 15:46So he plays one show with the replacement.
- 15:48Kelsey Peters, who I've met, lived in New York, the New York
- 15:52area for a while, is a very well known person in the music scene.
- 15:56Kelsey's been very nice. I met a few times and we have
- 16:00mutual friends and I knew they were opera trained and and
- 16:04seemed like the right profile of a person that would play in
- 16:07Cradle Of Filth, classically musical trained and do the
- 16:11Cradle stuff. Seems like you know a match so
- 16:15they play 1 show with a shock and and Kelsey replacing Zoe and
- 16:23a shock post to social media today Tuesday August 26th.
- 16:30Your fans and friends, I ask you to please respect my wife and
- 16:32myself in this transitional period.
- 16:34I am indeed leaving Cradle, building the end of this current
- 16:37tour and the reasons behind this and conclusions my wife and I
- 16:40came to together long before this week.
- 16:44We simply do not feel like Cradle can provide for our
- 16:47future and in fact it hinders it.
- 16:49One other reasons, it is a lot of work for relatively low pay,
- 16:53the stress is quite high and we haven't felt for a while like
- 16:56this band is actually prioritizing hearing about
- 16:59members. It has been years of
- 17:01unprofessional behavior from the people above us that led to our
- 17:05decision. I've also asked all compositions
- 17:07of mine removed from upcoming releases, including the Ed
- 17:11Sheeran collab. By the way, like the Cradle,
- 17:13Felt and Ed Sheeran have made a song.
- 17:15We'll see when we hear it and has since released an album.
- 17:18Cradle has since since released an album.
- 17:20Ed is not on it or Cradle. Cradle is not on Ed's album.
- 17:24The song feels foolish, like foolish clown antics for me at
- 17:28this point anyway. First it was a charity single
- 17:31for kids, then a Prophet single, then on the next album, and who
- 17:33knows. And I just don't not want to be
- 17:35involved anymore. No matter, no disrespect to Ed
- 17:38Sheeran. And meanwhile to so many
- 17:40brilliant Internet brains trying to speculate on personal affairs
- 17:43between me and Zoe, Zoe or Zoe, just stop this.
- 17:46We are trying to start a new chapter.
- 17:48I'm going to finish this tour strong for the fans of my
- 17:51friends in this band and Crow. It is my last ride of a Crayola.
- 17:53I'm proud to give it my best. I am sad to not share the stage
- 17:57with my wife these last times, but I respect why she left and I
- 18:00am happy for our friend. Kelsey Peters has been given an
- 18:02opportunity to shine. This is all I have to say for
- 18:05now. Leave my wife alone.
- 18:06Never insult her or her choices in my presence or else.
- 18:10Very ominous. I'm a guy who is dressed up as
- 18:13Pinhead at every show. So you know Cradle is on this
- 18:19tour. Shock makes that post and then
- 18:23Danny post is fired and I have this cool photo of fire here.
- 18:29I'll just read a little more here from the from Danny's post.
- 18:36Eastling is here. Hello the Eastling and hello
- 18:39again, Ken. I hope you're still here.
- 18:41So Danny now comments on on Ashok getting fired and this is
- 18:50some wild shit. And again they called him out,
- 18:54right? Zoe didn't call him out.
- 18:57Marek Ashok calls out Danny, those above us, Danny for the
- 19:04treat mistreatment. And so Danny posts.
- 19:10It is with Grave a Grave Heart that Cradle Of Filth officially
- 19:14announced the firing of guitarist Marek Ashok Schmerda
- 19:17from the band, effective immediately.
- 19:19Despite all attempts to illegally defame and derail the
- 19:21band, Cradle Of Filth will not cancel any of our South American
- 19:25shows, though fans will have to bear with us being a band with
- 19:28only one guitarist live. That's of course until a Shot's
- 19:31temporary replacement is flown out to join the tour in a few
- 19:35days time. Fast work.
- 19:37Thank you for understanding in this horrible matter.
- 19:39We are all in a state of shock over the proceedings and we'll
- 19:43share our side of these unfortunate events in due
- 19:45course. Please respect our decision to
- 19:48part with a shock now rather than at the end of the tour to
- 19:51avoid speculation any more. Clarity on the situation will be
- 19:54provided. The rest of the ban are cool,
- 19:56even if taken aback, and accusations to our management
- 19:58who work very closely with me and the ban are completely
- 20:01unjust and unfounded. Patience is a virtue and the
- 20:04truth will always out. Maybe means bear out, but OK,
- 20:09the truth, the truth will always win out.
- 20:11Maybe. Thank you once again, fellow
- 20:15Phil Flings, and we look forward to the rest of the Screaming the
- 20:17Americas tour here in Uruguay and beyond.
- 20:19Your friend Danny. So Danny kind of fires back,
- 20:23pushes back on any wrongdoing, defends the management.
- 20:29Again, I only know Danny to be very good in personal dealings
- 20:33with me and the press live as a person.
- 20:37I've seen him a little bit in regular life.
- 20:39I know the management Oracle management doesn't Anastasia
- 20:43Fafara to be nothing but professional to me and to in my
- 20:47dealings with them. I can't speak on other things
- 20:50and I'm not trying to cast aspersions because to my
- 20:52knowledge they are well regarded as management.
- 20:56But now though claps back and really I'm.
- 21:03I'm flabbergasted by this because I didn't expect after a
- 21:08shocks kind of smack down to Danny and Danny's pretty I'd say
- 21:16even handed defense. Murloc lives is here.
- 21:20What's on? I think it's a pretty even
- 21:22handed defense. You know, you know, they have a
- 21:27right to defend themselves, you know, so here's Zoe makes
- 21:33another post right after Danny fires a shock and again,
- 21:36feelings might be hurt. I I honestly understand why you
- 21:40would let the guitar not you know, let's not finish the tour.
- 21:43Go home. Thanks.
- 21:45You're quitting at the end of the tour.
- 21:46Don't even bother staying with us.
- 21:48We'll replace you. We can play some shows as a
- 21:50single guitar band, enough instrumentation and people to
- 21:54cover and, you know, just not interested in being on tour with
- 22:03somebody that doesn't want to be there.
- 22:04I get that. That's their right, honestly.
- 22:07And again, these folks are in a foreign country where they don't
- 22:10speak the language and they have to call home and probably on
- 22:15their own without the plane tickets the band bought for
- 22:17everybody. I don't know, I'm guessing on
- 22:23that one. So here's the statement from Zoe
- 22:28after Air Shock is fired and this kind of blew my brain a
- 22:33little and I'm going to tell you why.
- 22:35A further statement on the departure from myself and Asia
- 22:39from cradle. A warning to our successors in
- 22:44all caps. Read the contract.
- 22:47I think I have this here right. We plan this transition at a
- 22:52cradle built months ago. Management is dishonest,
- 22:55manipulative and tries to take money that belongs to us with no
- 22:58contract between us session musicians and him.
- 23:02So I think and him they mean Danny.
- 23:04When I called them out on this attempted theft of album advance
- 23:07money from Screaming of the Valkyries already released, they
- 23:11called me a cancer and a dead horse and threatened to fire me.
- 23:15The front man Danny does nothing to stop them from and hides
- 23:19behind them while they belittle and steal.
- 23:21We hold the front man responsible for hiring this
- 23:24management and never advocating for his team, only himself.
- 23:29Other ex members try to tiptoe around this and only blame
- 23:32management. Management works for the front
- 23:34man. You mean Danny?
- 23:38He might not get his hands dirty but in the end he directs them.
- 23:41The atmosphere he creates is threatening and abusive and
- 23:43constantly exploits us for very low wages yet also demands
- 23:47exclusivity to cradle schedule. We do not make even the bare
- 23:52cost of living that we are told to not tour with other bands to
- 23:55supplement our income. It is madness to keep people
- 23:58locked in poverty for the ego of one person.
- 24:02Whoa, that has a lot to unpack. Yep, Blackstone death metal.
- 24:09Yep talking about Cradle. That's right, Somewhere in Time
- 24:13is here also, so check this shit out.
- 24:22We attached a contract they attempted to trap all session
- 24:26members. Trap all session members in for
- 24:29a 25% raise. Parentheses.
- 24:32The first raise in seven years. Our lawyer called it the most
- 24:35psychopathic contract the session musician could ever be
- 24:38handed is quite a claim. We did not sign and made a
- 24:43decision to leave this year instead.
- 24:45So we left because we're being used and paid less than the cost
- 24:48of living. The environment is toxic and
- 24:50threatening and the toll this was taking on our lives and our
- 24:54marriage were too grew too great.
- 24:57The health toll it took on us also led me to miscarry our
- 25:00first pregnancy on tour. Whoa why are you flying across
- 25:04the country when pregnant? That not good but I'm not
- 25:09judging, but shit, we chose to lead to save ourselves and
- 25:12create a better future for our family.
- 25:14Now that we are out, the sun is shining, our family has hope and
- 25:16we hope. Every session musician thinks
- 25:18about joining Cradle, reads a contract and talks to a lawyer.
- 25:22Good luck to whoever tries to make it work next.
- 25:24And remember, we all know the guy who says all his exes are
- 25:28crazy. Are you sure?
- 25:29All of them? Could it be?
- 25:30Could the problem be you? 40 plus people later farewell to
- 25:35the fans and our fellow session members and crew.
- 25:38They were only part of this that remain good memories.
- 25:41And then she attaches the contract that they were asked to
- 25:46sign, which can't. I have to believe that's like a
- 25:50violation of ADA, you know, like a you know, like everybody has
- 25:59like, you know, NDA's disclosure agreements they have to sign.
- 26:04I'm shocked if there wasn't one in place that they could not do
- 26:08this go scorched earth, drop bombs like this on Danny and the
- 26:12management and also share this contract leak this contract,
- 26:17which is really I got to say, you know, difficult.
- 26:25Let's say like it's that's wild that they did this Blackstone
- 26:29that says cradle field equals chick bad.
- 26:31Well, yeah, there's there's the future discussion about Batty
- 26:37Core or Girlfriend metal or whatever, whatever you think.
- 26:42But this scorched the earth shit I've never seen.
- 26:45I really have seen it all. I've been I was in bands for 20
- 26:48plus years. I've been a music journalist for
- 26:51almost 20 years. I've been running Ghost Called
- 26:53for almost 13. I have never seen this before.
- 26:57A public split this nasty. I've seen some pretty bad
- 26:59splits, Bad Wolves, Tommy Vexed again.
- 27:02Slipknot versus former members. Just wow.
- 27:07So, you know, I mean, you know, there's probably a little bit of
- 27:10truth in everything here, but at the same time, I don't know, you
- 27:16know, I don't know, I'm, I'm perplexed personally about this
- 27:20whole thing. So I'm not a legal expert, nor
- 27:23do I profe, you know, profess to give legal advice to anybody.
- 27:28But, you know, we're just talking about, you know, Cradle
- 27:33Filth is a major band. I had said already, all due
- 27:37respect to Danny and their management, they are as big now
- 27:40as they have ever been. This is a very difficult time.
- 27:43Hopkins laws passing by with them.
- 27:45A lot of people have, you know, are failing at touring.
- 27:52A lot of people are retiring from music and not wanting to
- 27:55tour. I think you're going to see more
- 27:59and more of this is just very expensive to keep touring and
- 28:03then this bomb drop of this thing.
- 28:05So, you know, Danny Felt is also Danny Davey, this, you know,
- 28:10legal document. You can read it on on our site
- 28:12as well as Lamb Goat. It's just a fact.
- 28:15I don't know contracts. I'm just reporting what I'm
- 28:19reading here. At first, it seems like a very
- 28:22standard professional services contract.
- 28:25And Zoe and Ashok were referred to the whole band as session
- 28:29musicians. So Justin, let me just stop for
- 28:32a second and talk about this. A lot of people don't understand
- 28:35that every major band and your small DIY band, you should if
- 28:40you're going to run it like a business.
- 28:43My band incorporated Ghost Cult has an LLC even like you have to
- 28:48have a business head to be able to be in the music businesses,
- 28:54the music business, not the music friendship, as I am fond
- 28:56of saying, and I copyright that, but no, you can use it, trust
- 29:01me. You know, if you're not a
- 29:05founding member, if you're not a stakeholding member in Cradle
- 29:09Filth Incorporated, you just get less money than everybody else.
- 29:12You get less of the merge money you get, you get less royalties
- 29:15or no royalties depending on what you were negotiating.
- 29:19You know, that's the business. Dave Lombardo came back to
- 29:25Slayer and thought he would make more money as a weekly salaried
- 29:28employee than a member of Slayer.
- 29:32And it's very well detailed in the book by my friend DX Ferris.
- 29:36So I hope to interview at some point soon about their finances.
- 29:40And, you know, a light was shed on that that was very
- 29:43distasteful to Dave, and that's why he ended up out of the band
- 29:46eventually a second time and never coming back probably.
- 29:50So it seems like a personal services contract.
- 29:52And there's things about copyright and compositions.
- 29:56You know, you give us all consents and permissions.
- 29:59You don't own your music. You contributed to the albums.
- 30:02This was what was offered. This is what was offered.
- 30:04I don't know if this is the contract they had.
- 30:06This is what they were offered for a 25% raise across the
- 30:09board, which, you know, is significant.
- 30:13But seven years, usually most people get a four or 5% Slayer.
- 30:18I hear you, man. I hear you.
- 30:20You know, not as not, you know, we're talking about big
- 30:24business. And maybe that's the antithesis
- 30:26of art and true metal and all these things.
- 30:29Slayer died a long time ago. They came back for the money.
- 30:31There's no question. I mean, I'm, I'm glad they're
- 30:34back because I kind of feel like the world died a little bit when
- 30:36they retired. But, you know, Jeff wouldn't
- 30:40have wanted the band to stop. And the money is probably
- 30:43outstanding to do these handful of shows a year.
- 30:46But I hear you, man. I hear you.
- 30:47Tell me what bands you like and I'll let you know.
- 30:50I'm sure we cover them. So here's kind of a rub.
- 30:54And again, this is what they are, according to Zoe, their
- 30:58lawyer called this psychopathic. That is a very strong aspersion
- 31:03against. But 200 per day for all days in
- 31:07which you were required to perform.
- 31:08I mean, if you're on a tour of South America doing about 40
- 31:12dates in six weeks, that's quite a lot of money, more than most
- 31:16people make in minimum wage jobs per day, but not a lot.
- 31:19I mean, maybe double the minimum wage.
- 31:23A sum of 150 days spent traveling that are not
- 31:26performance days, and a per diem each day of 25.
- 31:29These are all in pounds, so not EUR, not USD pounds and worth
- 31:33haven is passed by. What's up?
- 31:35And again, I will mention that like maybe with the exchange
- 31:38rates. So you know, Ken says I think
- 31:41Cradle simply isn't immune to rock'n'roll moments.
- 31:44And this is definitely one of those moments.
- 31:45They take themselves to Sirius at times and the musician should
- 31:48get paid as much as possible. I absolutely agree with that.
- 31:51Blackstone Dead says only fools give them their hard earned cash
- 31:55to go see them. We're talking about Slayer, but
- 31:57maybe Cradle too. You know, here at Ghost Cult, we
- 32:00cover the underground, we cover the underground, we cover the
- 32:03big ass bands. Yowie has passed by on Facebook.
- 32:06That's cool. Yowie the band.
- 32:09We also had somebody watching quite a few people watching on
- 32:13YouTube. Thanks, Ken.
- 32:14Thank you. Blackstone Death.
- 32:19You know, I feel terrible if she lost a baby.
- 32:22Definitely would not have flown if she was pregnant.
- 32:25But again, that's not my not my body and I don't mind decision
- 32:30to make an annual payment of $1000 for the use of your image
- 32:34and or performance and videos, merchandising photographs or
- 32:37other. Each December 31st you perform
- 32:43with the artist. The artist is Danny.
- 32:46So 1000 a year does seem a little light for images, music
- 32:51videos, faces on shirts, press photos.
- 32:55Seems light for a band at the level of Cradle, but maybe they
- 32:59feel like that's fair, I do not know.
- 33:01In addition to the foregoing, we agree to give you a good faith
- 33:03consideration to further payment to you from time to time and
- 33:07respect the merchandise sales and so-called meet and greets.
- 33:10So if they do meet and greets they can get a little extra
- 33:12money. You get supplied with your
- 33:14services to the best of your ability to the standard of a
- 33:17first class performer at all times while providing your
- 33:20services here under Legal Talk. The avoidance of doubt you shall
- 33:24provide these services on a first call basis.
- 33:27You agree with 10 punctually in such places and times.
- 33:30And then there's some more rules about first call.
- 33:36You are solely and exclusively entitled to grant the rights
- 33:39granted to us, meaning the artist Danny and the management
- 33:42and the full right and power and enter into this agreement,
- 33:46meaning there's no other deals that could you know, interfere
- 33:49with that. You still listen to black and
- 33:50deaf metal with any other ground.
- 33:51I hear you, man. Hot Topic metal.
- 33:54Satanic Berserker 666 is here. Real filth equals Hot Topic
- 33:58metal. Fair enough, man.
- 33:59But that Hot topic metal sold out a tour of South America in a
- 34:02time when people can't afford to go to shows.
- 34:05So I hear you. We're just talking about this
- 34:07drama that I have said before you join guys that this is
- 34:12unprecedented bomb drop. You never see a major artist get
- 34:16called out like this very, very rarely.
- 34:19So I'm surprised. And what I'm trying to do is
- 34:22shed light on why I again, I only know Danny.
- 34:26I've interviewed him and he's been cool and met him a few
- 34:28times. Does an Anastasia great people.
- 34:32I only know them as a journalist to management and you know
- 34:37everything I've heard about them is good.
- 34:40Nothing in this Agreement shall be constructed, construed, or
- 34:43deemed to constitute a partnership or joint venture
- 34:46between you and us. This is probably like the Ghost
- 34:49clause after Ghost got sued after Tobias Ford got sued by
- 34:53the rest of Ghost. These are standard now.
- 34:56You are not a member of this band unless you are a member of
- 34:58this band incorporated. You are a work for hire
- 35:02contractor. Something about the laws of
- 35:09England and Wales and courts cost incurred by a result of
- 35:16you. You might repay us costs and
- 35:20demand and in addition to authorize us to deduct any such
- 35:24cost from royalties or payments otherwise due to you if you
- 35:28don't uphold this contract. That is wild.
- 35:31But I think that's probably standard again.
- 35:36So again, I don't, you know, I don't know.
- 35:47There's an additional update from Danny, so I'll skip ahead.
- 35:54That's all the slides. You can go see them on social
- 35:57media or if you care enough. Danny felt a great guy here.
- 36:04He throws tantrums like Chucky when he doesn't get his way.
- 36:06I mean, you know, if you've been in music for 34 years and you've
- 36:10gotten to a certain level, you can, you can be a diva.
- 36:13I mean, we see it. We see it all the time.
- 36:16The worst thing is when a brand new artist acts kind of like a
- 36:18diva, they haven't earned the right to.
- 36:21I don't know that anyone should be a diva, but like, if you
- 36:24haven't earned the right to, you don't have anything to lean on.
- 36:27You're brand new here. You're not entitled to anything.
- 36:32This is more recent update from Danny from Uruguay.
- 36:37It's been an extremely dramatic week out here on the road in
- 36:40South America with a sudden depart departure of Zoe from the
- 36:43band. The sum total of 11 hours sleep
- 36:47in four days due to some very early morning lobby calls on
- 36:49late arriving back in hotels. 4 amazing shows in Brazil and
- 36:53Argentina thus far. Uruguay today.
- 36:55That was last night. Many early check insurance for
- 36:59flights. It certainly has been a
- 37:00whirlwind of chaos amid a circus of delights in the first week.
- 37:04Little over a month now stretching like a great cat
- 37:07forest clawing its ways through the dense foliage of South and
- 37:11Central America. It sure is flowery.
- 37:14Kelsey Peters certainly filling in well on backing vocals and
- 37:18key duties, and the mood of the camp is very upbeat and
- 37:21positive. Now the huge amount of photos to
- 37:23share, seeing as how we've literally bounced from airport
- 37:26to hotel to club and back again, but should get a little easier
- 37:30now that we have many trap. We have as many travel days as
- 37:33shows, jet lag notwithstanding, until the final lengthy run in
- 37:37Mexico. So thank you for your continued
- 37:40support and for not listening to all the bullshit rumors and
- 37:43sickly worms presiding over the Internet.
- 37:46I wonder. I guess that needs me.
- 37:49Cradle Of Filth always come back better and stronger than ever,
- 37:52and that will be no different this time when we unleash our
- 37:55new album of the foreseeable future, These Steel Wishes.
- 37:58Danny Montevedo. Why So?
- 38:01Hopefully I said that correctly and pronounced that well.
- 38:03I hope you know what a dramatic turn of events blood is here.
- 38:11And I think, you know, when you get a band that's hit this level
- 38:14for a long time, you're going to have dissatisfied people.
- 38:19We know, I know that Danny recently mended fences with
- 38:24Sarah Jezebel Deva of the iconic early albums.
- 38:30She was incredible and is a friend to the show.
- 38:34We've interviewed her a few times and followed her projects.
- 38:39I mean, it just kind of put out the screaming of the Valkyries
- 38:43not that long ago. So it's possible they have
- 38:46another new album in the works. And I saw that a stock asked
- 38:50that his music not be released, including their new album and
- 38:54the Ed Sheeran Lab, which is crazy.
- 38:58But also like, they might just cut him out of the money if
- 39:02anyway and run this, you know, release the music anyway.
- 39:07Garrett punk rock is here. I'm just think it's like very,
- 39:11very brash to just air The Dirty laundry as a means of like
- 39:18defending themselves. That shit is wild.
- 39:20I've never seen it done that way.
- 39:21I don't recommend it. Maybe they felt they didn't have
- 39:24a choice. Maybe they don't have a leg to
- 39:26stand on legally and that's why they did it.
- 39:30But again, Danny is Cradle Of Filth.
- 39:35Danny is Cradle Of Filth incorporated.
- 39:38It's his choice to pay people like contractors.
- 39:42Contractors typically make a higher pay, not lower.
- 39:48They don't get a share of the money of the royalties of the
- 39:50merge as much, but you know, they tend to get paid more
- 39:55weekly than, you know, occasional, you know, meted out
- 40:02payments. More one say you know unfurl
- 40:06about this Apparently they're going to get a fill in guitarist
- 40:09who's apparently preparing and going to meet them on tour.
- 40:13Kelsey Peters best of luck to you.
- 40:15We've like I said, we've seen other past members of cradle
- 40:19burnout and leave Most of them seem to be thriving again.
- 40:26I mentioned that Sarah, for many years, Sarah Jezebel, David
- 40:29could not, you know, never saw Danny again.
- 40:32And you know, we heard between mutual friends things said and
- 40:36then they met somewhere and she caught up with their tour and
- 40:40that very nice chat apparently and you know, came to Jesus
- 40:45meeting or whatever. No pun intended.
- 40:47Maybe pun intended a little. And you know, generally
- 40:51speaking, if you go look at Zoe Smerda's social media, all the
- 40:57ex Cradle members are popping up in there.
- 41:01Satanic Berserker 666, their new sellout album.
- 41:03For all the clueless, Normisha weren't even itching in their
- 41:05daddy's pants when they formed. I got you, man, I got you.
- 41:09Yes, of course. But you know, we're not going to
- 41:11gatekeep age. Like some people were not born
- 41:13at the right time. I mean, you know, I like black
- 41:17metal in the early 90s and I still listen to those same
- 41:19bands, you know, windier became Breed.
- 41:23But like, you know, other than that, I'm still listening to
- 41:26over and the old school, you know, Nottons manager Bill
- 41:29records and and Emperor's first few records and things like that
- 41:32that I like. Next time you interview the
- 41:35diva, ask why he tends ships from death metal to estrogen
- 41:39metal. OK, I hear what you're saying.
- 41:41Gatekeeping is good. It's not that good, but I hear
- 41:44what you're saying. I don't care about safe spaces,
- 41:48but I think like there's room for everybody.
- 41:53You can like black metal, you can like rap metal, you can like
- 41:57hardcore, you can like death. Again, I'm a journalist, so I
- 42:01kind of have a generalist ear in the 1st place.
- 42:05I think gatekeeping bad music from people is important.
- 42:09Gatekeeping exists for a reason, and there's nothing that either
- 42:12you or I can do to get rid of it.
- 42:13That's fair. That's fair.
- 42:16Satanic reserker. Seems like you and Blackstone
- 42:18def similar values which is cool.
- 42:21Common bonds. But anyway, more to come on
- 42:24this. I'm rooting for, you know,
- 42:26everybody to go on with their lives, but this is just wild.
- 42:29That's why I came on here to talk about it.
- 42:31I have never seen it done this way.
- 42:33A lot of people have left bands and then just kind of moved
- 42:37quietly through and not just rained fire and burnt, scorched
- 42:42the earth behind them. But I guess Zoe and Marek felt
- 42:46they needed to do this. It'd be very interesting to see
- 42:49when and if Danny shows up with receipts to, you know, doesn't
- 42:54need to defend himself, but if he feels like he wants to defend
- 42:58himself further, it'd be interesting to see even they
- 43:01called out past former members of Cradle, felt that preceded
- 43:06them, and said that they current and past members tiptoe around
- 43:10Danny while living in fear of him in the management.
- 43:13That's a wild accusation, but yeah, they have had quite a
- 43:19bunch of members. I'm sure you saw the meme about
- 43:22Megadeth not inviting their 748 past members on tour.
- 43:28Sorry David Ellefson, they're not going to call you, even
- 43:31though I love that dude In terms of musicianship and why he woke
- 43:37people. Yep, I hear you guys.
- 43:40Thanks for being part of the conversation.
