- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, guys, here we are last break of the day.
- 0:02Speaker 1: Thank you to our Steve Harvey Nation for always riding
- 0:06Speaker 1: with us. We appreciate you so much. We love you, Steve.
- 0:10Speaker 2: I know my close remarks today is because I want
- 0:16Speaker 2: to say something to public figures, I being one of them,
- 0:21Speaker 2: you all being one of them, and I just want
- 0:24Speaker 2: to remind you of some things that we have to
- 0:28Speaker 2: constantly be aware of. And because of social media, everybody
- 0:33Speaker 2: has to be aware. Now. It used to just be
- 0:37Speaker 2: for the famous, but no, because of social media, because
- 0:41Speaker 2: you can post anything you want and you can comment
- 0:45Speaker 2: on any post you want. When you're famous and you're
- 0:49Speaker 2: in the public eye and you make a public comment
- 0:53Speaker 2: or statement, you have to be ready for the scrutiny,
- 0:58Speaker 2: the ridicule, the critics, anything you got. You gotta expect
- 1:03Speaker 2: it all because you are a public figure and you
- 1:06Speaker 2: made the statements publicly. Now, when you make a mistake publicly,
- 1:13Speaker 2: as I have, and I have made some major mistakes
- 1:17Speaker 2: in my life, you all have bore witness to a
- 1:20Speaker 2: lot of them. I mean, man, and social media don't
- 1:25Speaker 2: let you forget. They don't let you forget every now
- 1:28Speaker 2: and then you could be doing something else, and they're there.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Are you think we forgot about when you said the
- 1:32Speaker 2: wrong name and miss Universe with your stupid blankety blank. No,
- 1:38Speaker 2: I'm not a stupid person, So that goes in one
- 1:42Speaker 2: ear and out the next. I made a mistake. It
- 1:44Speaker 2: is what it is. I explained it to the young
- 1:47Speaker 2: lady that I made a mistake with Miss Columbia. I
- 1:50Speaker 2: apologized to her father and I and I didn't do
- 1:53Speaker 2: anything publicly until I said it to her. I made
- 1:58Speaker 2: a lot of mistakes. I remember one time this gentleman
- 2:01Speaker 2: called in and he was berating me about something. We
- 2:03Speaker 2: got into an argument back and forth, and then he
- 2:06Speaker 2: said he was from Flint, and then I made I'm
- 2:09Speaker 2: just messing with him, So I made something about the
- 2:11Speaker 2: water he drinking. Well, they ate me alive for that,
- 2:15Speaker 2: and I took it. But I came on the radio
- 2:17Speaker 2: and I apologized because I made a mistake and I
- 2:21Speaker 2: shouldn't have said it that way because a lot of
- 2:23Speaker 2: people in Flint were suffering. So I made a mistake,
- 2:26Speaker 2: so I had to apologize. And then after that I
- 2:29Speaker 2: sent a bunch of water to Flint to try to
- 2:32Speaker 2: make good. Because I'm not a mean spirited person. I
- 2:35Speaker 2: just I should have said it. But when you are
- 2:38Speaker 2: a public figure and you make a mistake, you got
- 2:41Speaker 2: to take ownership. You have to take ownership because look, man,
- 2:46Speaker 2: the public we are especially blacks, because once again we
- 2:51Speaker 2: are the group of people who are responsible for the
- 2:55Speaker 2: actions of one another. We are held to a different
- 2:59Speaker 2: code of ethic, a different set of morals, a different
- 3:02Speaker 2: set of expectations by one another. Because so very few
- 3:05Speaker 2: of us slip through the cracks to reach a level
- 3:08Speaker 2: of prominence that those that help support us get there,
- 3:14Speaker 2: they feel a part of the journey, or they feel
- 3:16Speaker 2: like you're on something. Now. Is it always fair? No,
- 3:18Speaker 2: it's not, but it is what it is. And you know,
- 3:22Speaker 2: of late, we've watched a lot of famous people say
- 3:25Speaker 2: some stuff and I feel for these people because they
- 3:31Speaker 2: don't understand. But you have to take accountability. You know,
- 3:36Speaker 2: my brother Stephen a smith man. You know the difficulty
- 3:43Speaker 2: in watching him try to I don't even know if
- 3:48Speaker 2: he's trying to fix it, but to explain it. My
- 3:53Speaker 2: best advice to anybody is you got to take accountability.
- 3:57Speaker 2: My approach to this whole thing would have just been
- 3:59Speaker 2: to say, hey, you know what, I messed up? You're right.
- 4:02Speaker 2: I made some mistakes. I owe somebody an apology. I
- 4:06Speaker 2: would have started with them, sisters. I would have just
- 4:09Speaker 2: made it and just say, look, man, y'all forgive me.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Charge it to my head, not to my heart. I
- 4:14Speaker 2: blurted it out, I was out of line. Blah blah
- 4:16Speaker 2: blah blah blah, and then and then begin to work
- 4:19Speaker 2: your way back. But I don't know that when you
- 4:24Speaker 2: make statements and uh, deal hugely, who is my dear brother?
- 4:29Speaker 2: Of course deal hugly said, what black person has to
- 4:34Speaker 2: explain that they were raised in a black family? You
- 4:39Speaker 2: know what? That's true? And Shirley says something off the
- 4:43Speaker 2: air we were talking that was so funny and she
- 4:47Speaker 2: was so serious, because Shirley said she gets tired of
- 4:51Speaker 2: being disparaged as a black woman. Carl has said the
- 4:54Speaker 2: same thing. She gets tired of seeing black women get
- 4:58Speaker 2: raked over the colds, and then if it's from a
- 5:02Speaker 2: black man, it hurts even more because man, black women
- 5:06Speaker 2: do so much to hold it together for so many
- 5:10Speaker 2: people behind the scenes. And Shirley says something, when you
- 5:15Speaker 2: say you were raised bout black women, we all got mothers.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Shirley said, pimps got mamas, and that was so funny
- 5:27Speaker 2: because pimps got mamas, but they still drug dealers got mamas,
- 5:32Speaker 2: but they still deal drugs. My mother was a save
- 5:36Speaker 2: born again Christian Holy ghost Field five baptized Pentecostal Sunday
- 5:42Speaker 2: school teacher. You know how much I did counter to
- 5:47Speaker 2: everything she taught me. I counted everything she told me.
- 5:53Speaker 2: But you gotta take accountability, and we gotta do better
- 5:56Speaker 2: by these sisters out here. Man, we as black men,
- 6:00Speaker 2: have an obligation to stand up and uphold our sisters
- 6:05Speaker 2: that are in these high positions. You can't be a
- 6:07Speaker 2: man in another high position. And then five these sisters
- 6:11Speaker 2: that's got high positions and you showk file at that. No, really,
- 6:15Speaker 2: they don't deserve it. They deserve better. We have to
- 6:19Speaker 2: do more except that own up to that part. And
- 6:23Speaker 2: let's get on with it now. If you ain't gonna
- 6:25Speaker 2: do that, good luck to you. Good luck to you.
- 6:28Speaker 2: It's gonna be a rough ride back. Well, y'all have
- 6:31Speaker 2: a great day today. Talk to God. He hats a
- 6:34Speaker 2: little love to hear from him. Just talking to me
- 6:36Speaker 2: ain't gonna work.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Out for you.
