- 1:20Speaker 1: Welcome to the favorites of the podcast from the Volume
- 1:23Speaker 1: Podcast Network. I am Chad Mowman, Chief Content Officer of
- 1:27Speaker 1: the Action Network. Big Big Show. Because the Stanley Cup
- 1:31Speaker 1: playoffs have begun. Game one is done. It was thrilling.
- 1:37Speaker 1: In a few minutes, we're gonna bring on Action Network
- 1:41Speaker 1: Hockey analyst Mike Lieboff, the Man, my bff, my companion,
- 1:47Speaker 1: my compadre, professional better Simon Hunter, named as the person
- 1:53Speaker 1: most likely he would nominate for President of the United
- 1:56Speaker 1: States from the Action Network. Simon, I know you love
- 2:01Speaker 1: when Leeboff comes in you you have an affinity for
- 2:04Speaker 1: Leeboff that runs very very deep. I love it. It's
- 2:08Speaker 1: pure fake because right now our shows are on our
- 2:10Speaker 1: old schedule time and we're putting out our shows early
- 2:13Speaker 1: in the day. We'll be doing NBA, Chad, we want
- 2:15Speaker 1: to do an NBA final show. We talked about the
- 2:17Speaker 1: game tonight, but no, Luckily the gods have given us
- 2:21Speaker 1: this eleven and PM release time, so we have Leeboff
- 2:24Speaker 1: on the talk to NHL. Stanley Cup because now the
- 2:27Speaker 1: basketball is over, we care about hockey again. Chad, so
- 2:29Speaker 1: I love it. We we both talked about it last
- 2:31Speaker 1: night that game Game seven, I mean, game one, go
- 2:34Speaker 1: into overtime. It's hockey is the best. It's just what.
- 2:37Speaker 1: It was a three one. I just remember turning to
- 2:39Speaker 1: my buddy and being like, when a team's up to oh,
- 2:42Speaker 1: you know, the team's gonna come back and tie it.
- 2:43Speaker 1: So I can't wait here what Leo is gonna say,
- 2:45Speaker 1: because to me, it's It's why we love hockey so much.
- 2:48Speaker 1: It's the best playoffs sport, the drama, it's the best
- 2:52Speaker 1: in a four in a in a first game for
- 2:54Speaker 1: three overtime stunner. You can't ask for a better start
- 2:58Speaker 1: to a playoff series. So I'm gonna I want leave
- 3:01Speaker 1: Off to go deep on how he bet before the
- 3:03Speaker 1: series began, how he would reconsider his betting now. He's
- 3:06Speaker 1: got a lot of thoughts. Leadoff is it and veterate
- 3:10Speaker 1: hockey better? And um, I know I know for a
- 3:15Speaker 1: fact he will be betting Tampa in Game two. We
- 3:18Speaker 1: haven't even asked him that, just based on what the
- 3:20Speaker 1: money line price is going to be and how the
- 3:22Speaker 1: bookmakers adjusted. He will explain the strategy and logic behind that.
- 3:27Speaker 1: We do have to get to one thing you mentioned
- 3:29Speaker 1: NBA tonight Game six. You've got a considerable amount of
- 3:35Speaker 1: money on the Warriors to win the series. I have.
- 3:41Speaker 1: I have, Yeah, I have famously famously said Warriors and six.
- 3:47Speaker 1: I said it on the show, I said it on
- 3:50Speaker 1: the Twitter. I've said it to anyone who would ask.
- 3:53Speaker 1: I'm not gonna lie to you. When you and I
- 3:55Speaker 1: were together on Friday night after the Phillies game, I
- 3:59Speaker 1: went back to my hotel in Philly that we were
- 4:02Speaker 1: catching the second half of the Warriors Celtics game. You
- 4:06Speaker 1: texted me to make sure I was still awake, because
- 4:08Speaker 1: normally I would be asleep at ten o'clock. I did
- 4:10Speaker 1: stay up that night. My heart was in my chest.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Not so much because I bet on the Warriors to
- 4:15Speaker 1: win in six. I bet on the Warriors to win
- 4:17Speaker 1: in seven. I also don't forget that game that was
- 4:21Speaker 1: Game four, Steph went off for forty three. I also
- 4:27Speaker 1: have a pretty sizeable bet on Steph to lead the
- 4:31Speaker 1: series in points per game, in threes per game. Uh
- 4:35Speaker 1: So I'm feeling really good about that. But a reminder,
- 4:39Speaker 1: Noman said, Warriors and six. And this is when all
- 4:43Speaker 1: of the models, all of our experts, everybody in the
- 4:46Speaker 1: world is like, Celtics are the better team. Take the underdogs.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Take the Celtics. You and I together, we were aligned.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Warriors are gonna win this series. They we're a couple
- 4:55Speaker 1: of bed. My favorite line too is people are talking
- 4:57Speaker 1: about historical defferense from Boston. I've believe only one team
- 5:00Speaker 1: in the series been held under three under a hundred
- 5:03Speaker 1: points three times. That team isn't Golden State. The team's Boston,
- 5:06Speaker 1: So just a classic. People overrate certain things. They they
- 5:11Speaker 1: just want the new toy to be the best toy.
- 5:13Speaker 1: And me and Chad we like the old toy. We
- 5:14Speaker 1: like Golden State story, and we bet on the best
- 5:17Speaker 1: player and the best coach and working out for us.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Who would have thought back in the coach he's coached
- 5:22Speaker 1: and what is its six NBA finals now he played
- 5:24Speaker 1: in three, would be a smart move instead of playing
- 5:26Speaker 1: the rookie head coach. But yeah, dude, he's won. He
- 5:29Speaker 1: won five NBA titles as a player. That's crazy. You're right,
- 5:32Speaker 1: because he got that one with San Antonio too. Right,
- 5:34Speaker 1: he's got a couple with san Antonio. He got he's amazing. Yeah,
- 5:41Speaker 1: you know, look at us, Look at us. Let's bring
- 5:45Speaker 1: in Leeboff, who you said, if anybody from the Action
- 5:50Speaker 1: Network should be President of the United States, it's Mike Lieboff.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Explain yourself and let Leeboff respond. My whole theory is,
- 5:57Speaker 1: you need someone to be a little crazy, which we
- 5:59Speaker 1: both know a Leeboff is you need someone have in
- 6:02Speaker 1: their core a good soul. And I can tell this
- 6:04Speaker 1: man might be a little crazy, bet as core. He's
- 6:07Speaker 1: a good guy, and that's I feel like we're lacking
- 6:09Speaker 1: when these last I don't know how many presidents we
- 6:11Speaker 1: had where it's like eventually they get in there, they
- 6:13Speaker 1: get a little corrupt. I don't know how you corrupt Leeboff.
- 6:16Speaker 1: This man only cares about the Islanders. Maybe if the
- 6:18Speaker 1: NFL commissioner, the NHL commissioner came and said, hey, we'll
- 6:21Speaker 1: give you a Stanley cup if you get rid of
- 6:23Speaker 1: these electric cars and help these gas coming out, and
- 6:25Speaker 1: maybe Leoff would be like, all right, I'm about it.
- 6:27Speaker 1: But I don't know. Just feel like it'd be hard
- 6:28Speaker 1: to corrupt this man and me I could be easily corrupted.
- 6:32Speaker 1: So that's why I'm looking at Leeboff saying we need
- 6:33Speaker 1: this kind of leader. We need you know what I
- 6:36Speaker 1: think before we let Leeboff jump in a agree with you.
- 6:40Speaker 1: By the way, I don't think you're easily corrupted. I
- 6:44Speaker 1: guess what I would say is you could be easily
- 6:47Speaker 1: corrupted in your heart. You would only be corrupted on
- 6:50Speaker 1: things that like won't hurt anybody else. I think you
- 6:54Speaker 1: always fall on the right side of history. I'm sure
- 6:56Speaker 1: I'm corrupted if someone, if someone came there said we'll
- 6:58Speaker 1: build you seventy water parks if you let us mind
- 7:02Speaker 1: the cop rut of this one mind on the side
- 7:04Speaker 1: is really beautiful neighborhood, I would say, get rid of
- 7:07Speaker 1: that neighborhood, give me those seventy water parks. I'd be
- 7:09Speaker 1: tough in that way. But yeah, no, like morally, no,
- 7:12Speaker 1: I'm I'm I'm pretty pretty good with that stuff. Leave off.
- 7:16Speaker 1: What's your What are you going to campaign on? Yeah?
- 7:19Speaker 1: I think I think Simon's sort of right. I'd love
- 7:23Speaker 1: the opportunity to be corrupted, but it just hasn't hasn't
- 7:26Speaker 1: happened yet. I can run a racket. I mean I
- 7:28Speaker 1: used to run a racket at the bar I bartended
- 7:30Speaker 1: that with that that had joker poker machines that paid
- 7:33Speaker 1: out of the cash register. But my rule was that like,
- 7:37Speaker 1: as long as nobody nobody's getting hurt, Like you're signing
- 7:40Speaker 1: up to go into a bar and drink and gamble,
- 7:43Speaker 1: like that's on you and you've got to take the
- 7:44Speaker 1: responsibility of what can come out of that. But if
- 7:47Speaker 1: if you're not, if you're if you're not part of
- 7:50Speaker 1: the game or the system, I just don't want to
- 7:52Speaker 1: hurt you or hurt your feelings and I want to
- 7:54Speaker 1: treat you with with respect. So you know, in terms
- 7:57Speaker 1: of politics, I used to be in the world of
- 7:59Speaker 1: politics for for a hot minute. If you sign up
- 8:01Speaker 1: for politics, it's similar, right, like you're signing up for
- 8:05Speaker 1: the choice of selling your soul or or fighting the
- 8:07Speaker 1: good fight. So for me, I would like to think
- 8:10Speaker 1: and I did go go for fighting the good fight,
- 8:13Speaker 1: and it didn't work. I got railroaded pretty hard and
- 8:17Speaker 1: it was tiring and annoying. But if someone approached me
- 8:20Speaker 1: it was like, you know, we want you to do
- 8:21Speaker 1: it again, I would listen to them. Every decision has context,
- 8:24Speaker 1: Like we look at everything is black and white, but
- 8:27Speaker 1: that's just not how it works in the real world.
- 8:29Speaker 1: It's not how it works in a bar either, Like
- 8:31Speaker 1: people need to get a grip on that. I do
- 8:33Speaker 1: think there's something to unpack it or which is about
- 8:35Speaker 1: living by a very particular code, right, I leave off
- 8:38Speaker 1: in a second. I want you to explain to people,
- 8:40Speaker 1: because we've opened this Pandora's box a little bit what
- 8:43Speaker 1: you're talking about with the politics and the road roading,
- 8:45Speaker 1: because we I don't know if we've unpacked it on
- 8:46Speaker 1: the show. But you know, in Vegas, amongst gamblers, there's
- 8:51Speaker 1: a code, right. And while you could argue that gamblers
- 8:56Speaker 1: from the old time days, whether they were mafia connected,
- 9:00Speaker 1: mafia adjacent, or just professional wise, guys who weren't connected
- 9:04Speaker 1: to any sort of illegal outfit at all, all lived
- 9:08Speaker 1: by a very particular code in which you did the
- 9:10Speaker 1: right thing, no matter what the circumstances. Like I know
- 9:14Speaker 1: guys in Vegas who owed people money, and before they
- 9:18Speaker 1: had a chance to pay this money, which was upwards
- 9:20Speaker 1: of seven thousand dollars, uh, the person that they owed
- 9:24Speaker 1: died natural causes. They still wrote the widow a check
- 9:28Speaker 1: for seven thousand dollars. Just certain code like things that
- 9:33Speaker 1: exist that you guys are talking about that is commonplace
- 9:37Speaker 1: in the gambling world. Leaveoff explain your political roads in glory.
- 9:42Speaker 1: It is all about a code and professional gamblers, people
- 9:45Speaker 1: who bar regulars, like they usually police themselves. Like the
- 9:48Speaker 1: bar I worked at was was not a bar of
- 9:51Speaker 1: repute at all, Like it was ugly gambling going on
- 9:55Speaker 1: all over the place. Nobody came in there that wasn't
- 9:57Speaker 1: a regular basically. But I only had to break up
- 10:00Speaker 1: in like three or four years of working two fights,
- 10:02Speaker 1: one between telephone Mike and this guy Marcus and another
- 10:05Speaker 1: between two people who never came to the bar. But
- 10:07Speaker 1: other than that, like they police themselves, and that's what
- 10:10Speaker 1: I believe in. Like like I'm not I don't want
- 10:11Speaker 1: to meddle. I don't know what it's like to be,
- 10:13Speaker 1: you know, Simon Hunter every day Like I'm I'm I'm
- 10:16Speaker 1: gonna trust that Simon Hunter can can make the right
- 10:18Speaker 1: decisions first Simon Hunter and and hopefully help society. But yeah,
- 10:22Speaker 1: when I was twenty one two thousand eleven, I ran
- 10:25Speaker 1: for mayor on a platform I like like to call
- 10:29Speaker 1: utopian and idealistic. I grew up in a suburban town
- 10:32Speaker 1: on Long Island, and I just wanted to, you know,
- 10:35Speaker 1: make it more friendly, not have the local government like
- 10:39Speaker 1: is like full of red tape and whatever, and so
- 10:41Speaker 1: I tried to like simplify things. And at first, like
- 10:44Speaker 1: my candidacy got some hype as you could imagine a
- 10:47Speaker 1: twenty yest year old running for mayor would, and you
- 10:51Speaker 1: know a lot of the ideas I had on my
- 10:52Speaker 1: platform ended up being roped into the winner his platform.
- 10:56Speaker 1: But yeah, I got I got railroaded a couple of times.
- 10:59Speaker 1: You know, they're are some weird local local election laws
- 11:01Speaker 1: that that they made up on the spot. Like the
- 11:04Speaker 1: day before I think there was a Memorial Day parade.
- 11:06Speaker 1: They called me and we're like, just so you know,
- 11:08Speaker 1: you're not allowed to march in parades. That sounds stupid
- 11:11Speaker 1: and I wasn't planning on marching in a parade, but
- 11:13Speaker 1: that's fine. And then the next morning I had like
- 11:16Speaker 1: twenty people call call me, call my parents like where
- 11:19Speaker 1: is he? Why isn't he get to Memorial Day parade?
- 11:20Speaker 1: Does he not care about the troops? And I'm like,
- 11:23Speaker 1: what you just told me? I couldn't do it. So
- 11:25Speaker 1: then I went I was like, Okay, I guess I
- 11:26Speaker 1: gotta like, you know, show up and be a politician
- 11:29Speaker 1: in this parade and do what politicians do in parade,
- 11:31Speaker 1: which is walk, which is just goes to show you
- 11:33Speaker 1: how low the bar is for for politicians. So then
- 11:36Speaker 1: I did, and as I was doing it, the the
- 11:38Speaker 1: local elections chief like came up to me, was like,
- 11:40Speaker 1: we told you you can't walk in this, and I said,
- 11:42Speaker 1: someone just told me like I have to, and they're like, well,
- 11:45Speaker 1: who was it was an elections official? I said no,
- 11:47Speaker 1: and he's like, yeah, those are probably people who worked
- 11:49Speaker 1: for your opponents, like trying to get you in trouble,
- 11:51Speaker 1: like get out of here. So then a couple of
- 11:54Speaker 1: weeks later, there was a debate totally dumb on both
- 11:58Speaker 1: my part, like it was a mistake on my part
- 12:00Speaker 1: to to turn down the debate because it was it
- 12:03Speaker 1: was basically going to be set up for the guy
- 12:05Speaker 1: who won. Plus I was twenty, you know, I didn't
- 12:08Speaker 1: know how to debate obviously. So I went to bonaro
- 12:12Speaker 1: I tickets for Bonnaroo. So I went down to Manchester, Tennessee,
- 12:16Speaker 1: and that day Newsday called me. They were like, hey, we're,
- 12:19Speaker 1: you know, doing a a story on local elections, and
- 12:22Speaker 1: we're we know that there's a debate tonight, so we
- 12:24Speaker 1: just wanted to talk to you and whatever. UM. So
- 12:27Speaker 1: I did the interview. It did fine, and like as
- 12:29Speaker 1: you can imagine, I was at Bonnaroo, so I was
- 12:31Speaker 1: a little overserved and made me indulged in some stuff
- 12:35Speaker 1: and did the interview. Was fine. I thought that the
- 12:37Speaker 1: interview went well, but my opponent found out I was
- 12:40Speaker 1: I was there. It got out pretty quickly that I
- 12:42Speaker 1: turned down the debate to go to a music festival,
- 12:44Speaker 1: whereas I legitimately turned it down just because I didn't
- 12:47Speaker 1: want to do it. I find debates to be abhorrent
- 12:50Speaker 1: and useless. You know, it's all bullshit. I would have
- 12:55Speaker 1: loved to have seen you with Mayor. That's all I
- 12:57Speaker 1: gotta say about that. Last night in Game one of
- 13:01Speaker 1: the Stanley Cup in Denver, UH Colorado, which had been
- 13:05Speaker 1: a season long favorite UH. If they win this series
- 13:09Speaker 1: could go down as one of the three or four
- 13:10Speaker 1: best teams in NHL history. Unbelievable offense, great smothering defense,
- 13:16Speaker 1: planned Tampa Bay Lightning, two time defending champ in the
- 13:20Speaker 1: Stanley Cup. They also could go down as a dynastic
- 13:23Speaker 1: franchise with a win. Like this being one of the
- 13:25Speaker 1: third team to win three Cups in a row, and
- 13:29Speaker 1: for some reason, like I looked at this like more
- 13:32Speaker 1: than ever before, as Tampa being a much bigger long
- 13:35Speaker 1: shot than they would have been in the other two
- 13:37Speaker 1: Stanley Cups. And in the first period, Colorado dominated to
- 13:41Speaker 1: me right, like more shots on goal that kept the
- 13:43Speaker 1: puck in Tampa Bay's uh end of the ice. They
- 13:47Speaker 1: are up three one forty eight seconds. In the span
- 13:49Speaker 1: of forty eight seconds in the second period, Tampa Bay
- 13:52Speaker 1: ties it. What was your reaction to the game last night?
- 13:56Speaker 1: Who did you bet to begin the series? Yeah, I
- 13:59Speaker 1: bet the Lightning and I also bet their goaltender Andre
- 14:03Speaker 1: Bazilewski to pitch a shutout, which will go down as
- 14:07Speaker 1: as a bad bet, but I will do it again,
- 14:08Speaker 1: probably for Game two. He's just that good. It kind
- 14:11Speaker 1: of I thought there's a chance Colorado would be rusty
- 14:14Speaker 1: off the long break in hockey they implemented by Weeks
- 14:18Speaker 1: a couple of seasons ago, and it became evident that
- 14:20Speaker 1: the team teams off of long layoffs if they're playing
- 14:22Speaker 1: a team that is in some sort of rhythm, they
- 14:24Speaker 1: tend to struggle because it's had such a rhythm sport,
- 14:27Speaker 1: especially with the goaltender. Colorado was not rusty. No, they
- 14:30Speaker 1: were not. Um, they're really good. This is the second
- 14:33Speaker 1: time that they've won game one off a sweep, which
- 14:36Speaker 1: is usually, like I said, a pretty good spot to
- 14:38Speaker 1: have to fade a favorite like that. I think it's
- 14:40Speaker 1: like before last night, since that a team, the team
- 14:44Speaker 1: that swept lost the game one. But if it was
- 14:47Speaker 1: like all things being equal, there was no rust verse
- 14:49Speaker 1: rest narrative. I think that game kind of went how
- 14:51Speaker 1: I expected it. Like Colorado is gonna dominate the puck,
- 14:54Speaker 1: They're gonna dominate the shot clock and uh scoring chance battle.
- 14:58Speaker 1: But Tampa Bay is such a good counterpunching team and
- 15:01Speaker 1: they have the gold goalie to to keep them in
- 15:03Speaker 1: games where they're dominated, they'll just hang around and they
- 15:06Speaker 1: have this like innate they I mean, they broke in
- 15:08Speaker 1: my heart twice. They beat the Islanders in the last
- 15:10Speaker 1: two Eastern Conference Finals in a game six and then
- 15:13Speaker 1: in a game seven. That game seven was one nothing
- 15:16Speaker 1: win where Tampa Bay kind of just sat back and
- 15:19Speaker 1: and just waited for one mistake from the Islanders and
- 15:21Speaker 1: they got it. Against the Avalanche, It's it's it's gonna
- 15:24Speaker 1: take a little bit more. But Colorado plays a such
- 15:26Speaker 1: a high risk, higher rewards type of play that they're
- 15:29Speaker 1: they're gonna be able to to hang around in the series.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Whether they win it or not, who knows, But uh,
- 15:34Speaker 1: they can just absorb so much pressure and so much pace,
- 15:37Speaker 1: and they blocked shots so well. You'll you'll hear that
- 15:40Speaker 1: on the broadcast like they're the best shot blocking team
- 15:42Speaker 1: in the NHL, which, um, it's honestly true, Like they're
- 15:46Speaker 1: they're so good at getting in lanes and and when
- 15:48Speaker 1: you block a shot, what happens, Like the puck can
- 15:50Speaker 1: go anywhere, and they have the forwards that know, like
- 15:52Speaker 1: they they're so trained to know that I need to
- 15:55Speaker 1: be first to that puck. And if I'm not going
- 15:57Speaker 1: to be the guy to the puck, I need to
- 15:59Speaker 1: be the guy, you know, running the go route looking
- 16:02Speaker 1: for the past to spring on man rush. And we
- 16:04Speaker 1: saw a couple of those last night. I mean the goal,
- 16:06Speaker 1: the Kucharov goal Uman that was a lot, but the
- 16:08Speaker 1: pass from kucharav Like, they're so good on on man
- 16:11Speaker 1: rushes that you give them three opportunities, they're probably gonna
- 16:15Speaker 1: score two. So uh, it's it's a great battle between
- 16:18Speaker 1: styles make fights, and it's a great battle between someone
- 16:20Speaker 1: who wants to be super super aggressive uh and then
- 16:24Speaker 1: the other team that is totally okay with that and
- 16:26Speaker 1: they'll rope a dope and then try to strike back
- 16:28Speaker 1: on the counter. I mean, honestly, for me, I bet
- 16:31Speaker 1: the Lightning before the series started because of what Lee
- 16:33Speaker 1: Buffs just talked about. I thought the Ads would come
- 16:35Speaker 1: out sloppy and it's kind of heartbreaking where they were
- 16:37Speaker 1: literally one bounce away from taking that game. I mean
- 16:40Speaker 1: that third period, how many chances in Tampa Bay have
- 16:43Speaker 1: to get that goal and it was just I mean,
- 16:46Speaker 1: that was that was really tough. Especially That's just to
- 16:49Speaker 1: me that would be a big deal. Is that you
- 16:50Speaker 1: just talking about Ads are a young team, Like if
- 16:52Speaker 1: Tampa would have gone up one ol, I honestly think
- 16:54Speaker 1: that had have been a huge deal in this series.
- 16:56Speaker 1: But for me, is that some of that back Tampa
- 16:58Speaker 1: before that punk Eveen dropped last. I'm not worried at all,
- 17:01Speaker 1: Like if you if you bet on Tampa win this series.
- 17:03Speaker 1: They were just down to out of the Rangers, and
- 17:05Speaker 1: if you believe in them at the sad time, which
- 17:07Speaker 1: I did, you're just not worried at this point. They
- 17:09Speaker 1: as I think Gas are a really good team, but
- 17:12Speaker 1: Tampa is so proven. I really watching that game, Like
- 17:15Speaker 1: you talked about them blocking the shots. It's incredible. Like
- 17:17Speaker 1: that Florida series. I watched a lot of them versus
- 17:19Speaker 1: the Panthers. That was insane, Like the Panthers were this
- 17:22Speaker 1: really high octane offense and Tampa just shut it down,
- 17:26Speaker 1: like literally every shot they would take they were just
- 17:28Speaker 1: in front of Again, these guys are throwing faces in
- 17:30Speaker 1: front of bucks like they are mental, this Tampa team.
- 17:32Speaker 1: So I'm right there with the leadoff. I'm I'm on,
- 17:35Speaker 1: I'm on Tampa. But it's interesting here in your view
- 17:38Speaker 1: on the game after that first one, because it seems
- 17:40Speaker 1: like you're not that worried either, Like you're still you
- 17:42Speaker 1: still think Tampa is a good shot in this matchup. Yeah,
- 17:46Speaker 1: this this kind of went as planned. I think right
- 17:49Speaker 1: like they've lost game, they lost game, went to the leaves.
- 17:51Speaker 1: They were outplayed for like the first five games of
- 17:54Speaker 1: that series. Toronto probably should have won that series, like
- 17:57Speaker 1: for one, maybe four two, um, and but Tampa just
- 18:02Speaker 1: they don't panic. They kind of paste themselves in a
- 18:04Speaker 1: series too, to get them to the point where the
- 18:06Speaker 1: adjustments start to pay off and matter. Uh. And if
- 18:10Speaker 1: they get to a game six or game seven in
- 18:12Speaker 1: a series, like, they're probably going to win it because
- 18:14Speaker 1: they just know how to navigate those those murky waters.
- 18:17Speaker 1: And uh. Then they did it obviously again like you said,
- 18:19Speaker 1: against the Rangers, like down to nothing to nothing in
- 18:23Speaker 1: game three as well, and they come back without any
- 18:26Speaker 1: panic and and rip off four wins. And there's just
- 18:29Speaker 1: a quick aside like like I said, they did rip
- 18:33Speaker 1: my heart out and eat in front of my face
- 18:35Speaker 1: the past two springs. But then they beat the Lightning
- 18:38Speaker 1: and the Rangers. Uh for obvious, the Leaves and the
- 18:41Speaker 1: Rangers for me this this postseason. So I'm like all
- 18:43Speaker 1: this forgiven. This team is totally good by me now
- 18:46Speaker 1: because like the the existential dread that comes with the
- 18:49Speaker 1: Leafs and the Rangers to like having a divisional rival
- 18:53Speaker 1: in your own backyard making a run that they were
- 18:56Speaker 1: very lucky, and and the difference between the Rangers and
- 18:59Speaker 1: the Islanders, like when Islanders are making a run, you're
- 19:01Speaker 1: a part of it, Like you can go to the building.
- 19:03Speaker 1: You tickets aren't like crazy expensive. But with the Rangers.
- 19:07Speaker 1: It's like they're just watching the Rangers make a playoff run.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Like it's like Rangers fans watch a movie about Ranger,
- 19:12Speaker 1: the Rangers making a playoff run, whereas Islanders are just
- 19:14Speaker 1: a part of it, like living in it. Um, you know,
- 19:17Speaker 1: I don't need to see Liam Neeson and Tom Hanks
- 19:19Speaker 1: in the second row of Madison Square guard in every game.
- 19:22Speaker 1: But yeah, that's like I was saying that the Lightning
- 19:24Speaker 1: are just so good at just they'll just treadwater. They
- 19:28Speaker 1: won't panic, like I mean, you even saw them yesterday
- 19:30Speaker 1: after they lost the game, like they showed the tunnel
- 19:32Speaker 1: shot and you know they nobody's like bent over like
- 19:36Speaker 1: stick on, stick on knees. They just kind of just
- 19:38Speaker 1: went to the locker room. Is this is what was
- 19:40Speaker 1: supposed to happen like there there, This is where they're
- 19:42Speaker 1: at their best. And honestly, even if they lose Game two,
- 19:46Speaker 1: I'm not gonna panic like you could go into an
- 19:49Speaker 1: oh three hole. Maybe. So I actually like Tampa on
- 19:52Speaker 1: the series line. We we talked about this online change,
- 19:54Speaker 1: which is our NHL betting podcast with me and my
- 19:58Speaker 1: colleague so many sports that if you're gonna bet Tampa
- 20:01Speaker 1: in Game two. You might as well also take a
- 20:02Speaker 1: shot in them to come back and win the series,
- 20:04Speaker 1: because if they win Game two, they flipped the script.
- 20:06Speaker 1: It's home mice advantage for for the Lightning for the
- 20:09Speaker 1: last best the best of five series. Now, so this
- 20:12Speaker 1: team they're gonna be around Colorado is a different beast
- 20:15Speaker 1: from from maybe the Rangers. But the Maple Leaves are
- 20:18Speaker 1: were really good team all season, Like people thought that
- 20:21Speaker 1: they were the third best team in the NHL behind
- 20:23Speaker 1: Colorado and Florida. They already beat Florida, then they already
- 20:26Speaker 1: beat Toronto, like they can hang with this team. So
- 20:29Speaker 1: I'm not worried yet at all. Uh And I would
- 20:31Speaker 1: encourage if you were to ask me a bet on
- 20:34Speaker 1: Tampa to come back. So it's plus two thirty right
- 20:37Speaker 1: now with Fandel, Tampa win the series. I right, So
- 20:39Speaker 1: would you like better Tampa plus one plus one and
- 20:42Speaker 1: a half for the series that plust one sixteen on Vandel? No,
- 20:45Speaker 1: I would. I would just go go for them to
- 20:47Speaker 1: to win the series. Price you mentioned the Rangers. During
- 20:51Speaker 1: the Rangers Lightning series, the New York Post was all
- 20:55Speaker 1: over this and they had a story about a little
- 20:57Speaker 1: lesson a week ago about a Range's fan who cold
- 21:02Speaker 1: clocked and knocked out a Lightning fan. You have a
- 21:08Speaker 1: very specific angle on this story. To be clear, there
- 21:12Speaker 1: was a Rangers fan who completely and totally after game six,
- 21:18Speaker 1: I think at MSG, knocked out at Tampa Bay Lightning
- 21:22Speaker 1: fan after the game. I'm not shocked that somehow you
- 21:26Speaker 1: are tangentially connected to the story of a fight at
- 21:30Speaker 1: MSG after a Rangers game. Yeah, yeah, it was game
- 21:33Speaker 1: it was game five. So the Lightning just went up
- 21:35Speaker 1: three two on a last minute goal off of Andre
- 21:39Speaker 1: Plott Schimpad, And so Ranger fans were leaving the building, uh,
- 21:44Speaker 1: in a huff and as they want to do, like
- 21:47Speaker 1: that's totally okay. But then someone did something that's not
- 21:50Speaker 1: totally okay, and and sucker punched a Lightning fan. It
- 21:53Speaker 1: was like a gutless move. The video went viral and
- 21:56Speaker 1: I known that. So my brother, my younger brother, Danny,
- 21:59Speaker 1: he's been in the NYPD for quite a bit. He's
- 22:02Speaker 1: he's a detective getting guns off the street, stimond getting
- 22:06Speaker 1: guns off the street. But he every now and then
- 22:08Speaker 1: we'll pick up details, and he picked up detail for
- 22:12Speaker 1: a lot of the Ranger playoff games. Is just you know,
- 22:14Speaker 1: pick up over time to work security at msg UH
- 22:17Speaker 1: and helping you know, keep things because msg is right
- 22:20Speaker 1: above Penn Stations, so a big piece of real estate
- 22:23Speaker 1: in the city. Let's say. Um, so he was actually
- 22:26Speaker 1: escorting this woman out of the building. She was throwing
- 22:29Speaker 1: her out because she just chucked a full beer at
- 22:32Speaker 1: a lightning fan after after the goal. So my brother
- 22:35Speaker 1: was just escorted her out, turned back around to come
- 22:38Speaker 1: back to his spot. And as that was happening, you know,
- 22:42Speaker 1: a bunch of people, a bunch of Ranger fans, you know,
- 22:44Speaker 1: to their credit where like, you know, stop that guy,
- 22:46Speaker 1: Stop that guy, and he and they were like the
- 22:48Speaker 1: guy with the red shirt, that guy had had a
- 22:50Speaker 1: made a bad wardrobe decision. Rangers obviously they wear their
- 22:53Speaker 1: blue sweaters at home and most people are in a
- 22:56Speaker 1: blue sweater. This guy had a red Rangers jersey. On
- 23:00Speaker 1: was from Staten Island, Chad. But because you and I
- 23:02Speaker 1: know that a stereotype that I don't believe in. I
- 23:04Speaker 1: think people from Staten Island are are great. I love
- 23:07Speaker 1: Stanton Island. So this guy cold Cox someone makes a
- 23:12Speaker 1: bee line for the exit and my brother tackled him
- 23:15Speaker 1: into a merch table and detained him. And he had
- 23:17Speaker 1: no idea this is the best. But it was his
- 23:18Speaker 1: thirtieth birthday over the weekend, and so I saw him
- 23:21Speaker 1: and I was we were just talking about the story.
- 23:22Speaker 1: So he had no idea what happened. And in the morning,
- 23:25Speaker 1: you know, a bunch of people have sent me this video.
- 23:27Speaker 1: I texted it to him. I was like, tell me
- 23:28Speaker 1: you arrest of this guy, he said, I did. I
- 23:30Speaker 1: know he was what you set off the jump, Like,
- 23:32Speaker 1: you're not surprised. I'm connected to it. But my brother
- 23:34Speaker 1: just has a has like a weird way of just
- 23:37Speaker 1: always popping up wherever there he's needed. And even when
- 23:39Speaker 1: he was like twelve, like he rescued a dog on
- 23:42Speaker 1: a frozen lake once. He was just like walking by
- 23:44Speaker 1: and like some ladies, dog went onto the lake and
- 23:47Speaker 1: was like scrambling and he saved it. Um so like
- 23:50Speaker 1: he just has a way of kind of popping up
- 23:52Speaker 1: in those spots. But he was telling me the story
- 23:54Speaker 1: and he's like, I had no idea how big of
- 23:56Speaker 1: a deal, Like it was. All he knew was this
- 23:59Speaker 1: guy was being pointed by a crowd of people who
- 24:02Speaker 1: were saying, like stop him. He did something he's so
- 24:04Speaker 1: he's like, I didn't say he was arrested. I was like,
- 24:06Speaker 1: I'm just detaining you. I have no idea what happened.
- 24:09Speaker 1: I just need to like put you aside and until
- 24:11Speaker 1: this cell gets settled. He put him in cuffs and
- 24:13Speaker 1: and I guess the guy was like mouthing off and
- 24:15Speaker 1: spitting at him. And then it was like, you know,
- 24:17Speaker 1: I can't believe you do this to another Ranger fan.
- 24:18Speaker 1: And my brother is like, I'm an Islander fan. That
- 24:22Speaker 1: guy is in a heap of heap of trouble. One
- 24:25Speaker 1: of my mom's best friend, her name is Teresa co
- 24:28Speaker 1: from by Ridge, Brooklyn and an incredible Ranger fan. She
- 24:31Speaker 1: she talked shipped to me all the time whenever the
- 24:33Speaker 1: Rangers are making a run or the Islanders lose or whatever.
- 24:35Speaker 1: Just respect I respect her so much. She was so
- 24:38Speaker 1: upset because she was at my brother's birthday. She said
- 24:41Speaker 1: something to me which really resonated, which was when when
- 24:42Speaker 1: your team is on a playoff run, like, as a fan,
- 24:45Speaker 1: you have a responsibility to be on your best behavior
- 24:47Speaker 1: because if you're a fan that then provides a distraction,
- 24:50Speaker 1: like that's not good, Like you everybody needs to be
- 24:52Speaker 1: pulling the rope in the same direction. It's almost like
- 24:55Speaker 1: when a pitcher is pitching a perfect game, like everyone
- 24:56Speaker 1: leaves him alone, like you don't want to get in
- 24:58Speaker 1: the way, like you're there to support the team. You're
- 25:00Speaker 1: not there to distract from the team. And this guy
- 25:02Speaker 1: did it. And she she looked at me and she's
- 25:04Speaker 1: just like, this guy just cost us to Stanley Cup
- 25:06Speaker 1: and she's she is that guy through this whole season
- 25:10Speaker 1: at at the window. You know what, Teresa lives by
- 25:14Speaker 1: a code. Danny Leeboff lives by a code. I think
- 25:18Speaker 1: he'd be an incredible running mate for you when you
- 25:22Speaker 1: run for president. We're very very different people, as you
- 25:24Speaker 1: can imagine, because I literally would be the worst cap.
- 25:28Speaker 1: I would let everybody go and be like, go on,
- 25:31Speaker 1: I trust you. Just just learn learn from this mistake
- 25:34Speaker 1: and and call me in a couple of years and
- 25:37Speaker 1: let me know where you are in life so I
- 25:39Speaker 1: can feel like I made the right decision. So the
- 25:41Speaker 1: other video, the guy was yelling in his ear while
- 25:43Speaker 1: they were walking down. If you're wearing away jersey as
- 25:46Speaker 1: a fan and you just won a really tight game
- 25:48Speaker 1: and you're in the Northeast, even in the South, I'm
- 25:50Speaker 1: sure you might get knocked out, or West Coast. Unless
- 25:53Speaker 1: you're in the Midwest. People don't be yelling at people's ear.
- 25:57Speaker 1: It's like, I mean, Chad, I went to a Phillies game,
- 25:59Speaker 1: couldn't be nicer in the crowd. Right. If me and
- 26:01Speaker 1: Chad were cheering and yelling every time Arizona was getting
- 26:05Speaker 1: big hits, I'm sure someone would have followed us to
- 26:07Speaker 1: the bathroom and trying to fight us. Because I'm just saying,
- 26:09Speaker 1: these fans have crazy like these they don't think it's
- 26:12Speaker 1: just as crazy fans. So I feel bad for that
- 26:14Speaker 1: woman feeling that that ruined the repetition Ranger fans. I mean,
- 26:16Speaker 1: everyone knows there's bad eggs. Like literally, I'm an Eagles fan.
- 26:19Speaker 1: We have the worst fans in all of sports. I
- 26:23Speaker 1: get that, Like I go to Eagles games. I see it.
- 26:26Speaker 1: No one's hiding it, like we really are the worst.
- 26:28Speaker 1: I don't think other Rangers fans is being classless. You
- 26:30Speaker 1: got lucky where apparently he's fine, thank god. And apparently
- 26:34Speaker 1: he got tickets right from Tampa Bay's ownership to their
- 26:37Speaker 1: next game or something like that, which is again, no
- 26:39Speaker 1: one's got punched the face. But it's nice that a
- 26:41Speaker 1: class organization took care of this guy and hooked them up.
- 26:44Speaker 1: Pretty lucrative knockout that he took. Yeah, Les, he knows
- 26:48Speaker 1: you can eat a punch. Yeah, I listen. Anyone who
- 26:50Speaker 1: wants to get more on the Stanley Cup, listen to him.
- 26:54Speaker 1: That's Mike Leaboff and so many sports. That is his
- 26:58Speaker 1: co host. He's hockey version of Simon Hunter. You can

- 28:51Speaker 1: you have a follow up to one of our what
- 28:53Speaker 1: are the Odds stories? I sure do. I got an
- 28:58Speaker 1: email last from Christopher Frost, who was the listener that
- 29:03Speaker 1: provided the Sports Illustrated coincidence story a few weeks ago,
- 29:08Speaker 1: and I want to just read that email in its
- 29:10Speaker 1: entirety and get your guys reaction. It reads, Hey, guys,
- 29:16Speaker 1: ever since you read my Sports Illustrated story a few
- 29:19Speaker 1: weeks ago, I've gotten kind of freaked out whenever I
- 29:22Speaker 1: noticed strange coincidences taking place. But last week I went
- 29:27Speaker 1: to Disney World with my in laws and had a
- 29:29Speaker 1: bizarre experience. I don't care if you even read this email.
- 29:32Speaker 1: I just feel compelled to share it with someone. So
- 29:36Speaker 1: my wife and I arrived in Orlando, and in the
- 29:38Speaker 1: car from the airport, we're talking about Tim McGraw. Because
- 29:41Speaker 1: I'm a better I asked my wife, how old do
- 29:44Speaker 1: you think Tim McGraw is. I'll guess fifty four. My
- 29:48Speaker 1: wife says, I'll take the over. Turns out she takes
- 29:52Speaker 1: the win there. Later on, in the same ride, we
- 29:54Speaker 1: discussed the new Live Golf Tour and became curious about
- 29:58Speaker 1: the name, and we learned that Live is the name
- 30:02Speaker 1: of the tour because it's l I V. The Roman
- 30:05Speaker 1: numeral fifty four, and they selected it because of Birdie.
- 30:08Speaker 1: On every hole on a standard par s course is
- 30:11Speaker 1: a fifty four. When we arrive at the resort, we
- 30:15Speaker 1: check in and we're assigned to building fifty four. At
- 30:19Speaker 1: this point, I'm feeling a little strange, but I don't
- 30:21Speaker 1: mention anything to anybody just yet. We head out immediately
- 30:24Speaker 1: to the Disney park using the skyline. When we get
- 30:27Speaker 1: into our gondola cart, I noticed that the number of
- 30:30Speaker 1: our cart is of course, I finally tell my wife
- 30:34Speaker 1: that this is getting a little crazy. Tim McGraw's age
- 30:37Speaker 1: that lived tour, the building, the gondola all in one day.
- 30:40Speaker 1: Next up, it's our time to get on our first ride.
- 30:44Speaker 1: After the ride is over, my wife looks at me,
- 30:46Speaker 1: her eyes popping out of her head. The carts on
- 30:48Speaker 1: this ride also have numbers. She sees that three cards
- 30:51Speaker 1: in front of us is number fifty one. She asked
- 30:54Speaker 1: the people behind us, Hey, what's the number of our cart?
- 30:57Speaker 1: You guessed atty. At the end of the day, we
- 31:01Speaker 1: head back to the resort, used to the skyline again.
- 31:03Speaker 1: We're in line waiting, and of course I see card
- 31:05Speaker 1: number fifty four circling around towards us. I start shouting,
- 31:09Speaker 1: no way, no way, But sure enough the amery confused
- 31:12Speaker 1: looking staff member motions for us to get into kart
- 31:16Speaker 1: fifty four. Now my wife is very legitimately freaked out,
- 31:19Speaker 1: thinking something very strange is happening. And then turn and
- 31:22Speaker 1: see that my mother in law is on the phone
- 31:24Speaker 1: and has begun laughing. She was trying to make dinner
- 31:27Speaker 1: reservations for our party of nine that night, but was
- 31:29Speaker 1: told they couldn't accommodate a party of that size, and
- 31:32Speaker 1: it said, offered her, quote a table of five and
- 31:34Speaker 1: a table of four, and the weird number of games
- 31:38Speaker 1: stopped there. I will note that this all happened on
- 31:40Speaker 1: June nine, six nine and six times nine is well,
- 31:45Speaker 1: you get it. Thanks love the show, sincerely, Christopher Frost.
- 31:50Speaker 1: Holy fuck, that is a little bit freaky. Yeah, I
- 31:55Speaker 1: mean I was. I have a weird thing with numbers two,
- 31:58Speaker 1: Like I I see terms a lot, but that's like
- 32:01Speaker 1: next level. Like basically, a really close friend of mine
- 32:04Speaker 1: he weren't number forty four, so I have four and four.
- 32:07Speaker 1: For some reason, my life pops up a lot um.
- 32:09Speaker 1: Literally in my car, I just bought it's an M
- 32:11Speaker 1: forty four. Like, It's just there's a lot of weird
- 32:14Speaker 1: things like that, But that is really freaking such a
- 32:18Speaker 1: small amount of time to keep getting five and four. Um,
- 32:21Speaker 1: if I was you, I would have gone either played
- 32:22Speaker 1: the lottery, maybe gone took casino and put all my
- 32:26Speaker 1: money on fifty four. And I don't know, I didn't
- 32:28Speaker 1: something to make money off that number because there someone
- 32:31Speaker 1: was telling you something. Someone was trying to tell you something.
- 32:33Speaker 1: So that is really weird that that's kept popped up,
- 32:36Speaker 1: popping up that way, Simon, Can I tell you something?
- 32:39Speaker 1: Talk to me? Do you want to know what my
- 32:41Speaker 1: favorite number is? Yep? Is it really? That's so weird?
- 32:46Speaker 1: No joke me and Chad and not discuss this. That
- 32:48Speaker 1: is fucking weird. You'll appreciate the origins of this. Before
- 32:53Speaker 1: Michael Jordan's came to the Bulls in the early eighties,
- 32:56Speaker 1: my favorite player, my favorite sport was basketball. My favorite
- 33:02Speaker 1: team were the Philadelphia seventy sixers. My nickname was Dr
- 33:06Speaker 1: C because I love Dr J so much. I love
- 33:09Speaker 1: the number four, which was worn by Clint Richardson on
- 33:14Speaker 1: that three seventy sixers team. And then I decided, well,
- 33:19Speaker 1: I can't get enough of the number four, So why
- 33:22Speaker 1: would I just want one four when I could have
- 33:25Speaker 1: two fours? So growing up in any basketball league I
- 33:28Speaker 1: played in, or when I played high school basketball, I
- 33:31Speaker 1: went for the number fourty four. That is so weird, man, Yeah,
- 33:35Speaker 1: that that number. A lot of good things happened my
- 33:37Speaker 1: life and pops up whether it's weird. I like that
- 33:41Speaker 1: Chad was called Dr C and he thinks it was
- 33:44Speaker 1: because of Dr J and not because he probably looked
- 33:46Speaker 1: like a young a diet trust. So you're calling him
- 33:49Speaker 1: the word for Mike Leeboff four son and hunter for
- 33:56Speaker 1: Matt Mitchell. I am Chad Noman. This has been the
