- 0:00Speaker 1: Lady Wilson, what's up?
- 0:01Speaker 2: How are you? I'm good.
- 0:03Speaker 1: We text all the time. How of you? No, I'm kidding.
- 0:07Speaker 3: You.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Just you just got back from up playing crash. Oh
- 0:11Speaker 2: we do.
- 0:14Speaker 1: That's messed up, you know you just got back from
- 0:18Speaker 1: from crash, my ply. What's it like to be at
- 0:20Speaker 1: a point in your career where you're asked to do
- 0:23Speaker 1: these massive events like that?
- 0:25Speaker 2: Oh my gosh.
- 0:25Speaker 3: Well, first of all, Luke Bryan knows how to throw
- 0:29Speaker 3: a party. I need a vacation from vacation. My stomach
- 0:32Speaker 3: hurts like my head from alcohol, a mixture of everything.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Okay, I ate too much. I drank too much. I
- 0:40Speaker 2: had the time in my life.
- 0:41Speaker 3: I got to bring some of my girlfriends along and
- 0:44Speaker 3: we kind of made like a vacation out of it.
- 0:46Speaker 2: So it was great. My band didn't come.
- 0:49Speaker 3: I just filled in with with Luke's band, so it
- 0:52Speaker 3: was I just jumped up there and we did the
- 0:54Speaker 3: dang thing.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Your band's like, yeah, no play in Mexico. Cool, we
- 0:57Speaker 1: don't get to come. Yeah, but we'll do grand rap.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Yeah exactly.
- 1:02Speaker 3: Yep.
- 1:02Speaker 2: They gonna have it out for me.
- 1:05Speaker 1: You have been NonStop. Obviously. This year feels like I
- 1:10Speaker 1: don't want to say you're taking a step back, but
- 1:11Speaker 1: you're more mindful of like your girl gonna need some time?
- 1:15Speaker 2: Was that super intensive sometime?
- 1:17Speaker 3: One hundred percent. It has to be It has to
- 1:19Speaker 3: be intentional. It has to be like, all right, you
- 1:23Speaker 3: can't say yes to everything. It just felt like all
- 1:26Speaker 3: the opportunities were coming at once, and I feel like,
- 1:29Speaker 3: just now am I starting to kind of like settle
- 1:31Speaker 3: into it and feel like I know what I need
- 1:33Speaker 3: to say yes to, what I need to say no to,
- 1:35Speaker 3: and what's even just a not a no forever but
- 1:38Speaker 3: not right now? You know, I want to make sure
- 1:41Speaker 3: I'm present for all of these things that are happening,
- 1:43Speaker 3: and I feel more present right now than I've been
- 1:45Speaker 3: in a long time.
- 1:46Speaker 1: It's easier to think no before you ever say it
- 1:49Speaker 1: out loud. What was the tipping point that made this
- 1:52Speaker 1: year like nah, no, no, it's now.
- 1:55Speaker 3: I think it was looking up one day and just
- 1:58Speaker 3: being like, how did that happen? Or like did that
- 2:00Speaker 3: just happen? I feel like at times I haven't been
- 2:05Speaker 3: fair to myself. I feel like I thought I was
- 2:08Speaker 3: really soaking up those moments and enjoying them and whatever
- 2:11Speaker 3: you want to call it, but you have to take
- 2:14Speaker 3: the time and step back and really like have a
- 2:18Speaker 3: bird's eye view. I guess you could say of what's
- 2:21Speaker 3: happening in your life, not just for me with music,
- 2:23Speaker 3: but like if you're a new mother or you just
- 2:27Speaker 3: got married or whatever that is. I think it's important
- 2:29Speaker 3: to take those moments because they pass you by quick.
- 2:34Speaker 1: So what is a moment that you weren't You didn't realize,
- 2:38Speaker 1: but now you look back, you weren't super president that
- 2:40Speaker 1: you're still going to try and go back and soak
- 2:42Speaker 1: up as much as you can.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Well, I think definitely.
- 2:46Speaker 3: In the beginning of me, like selling tickets to a
- 2:49Speaker 3: show's there has been moments where I would be literally
- 2:54Speaker 3: on stage and be thinking about what I had to
- 2:57Speaker 3: do the next day. And then you have to fight
- 2:59Speaker 3: to get that like get the feeling back, you know
- 3:01Speaker 3: what I'm saying. So fighting to be present, not thinking
- 3:06Speaker 3: about what's behind you, what's way in front of you,
- 3:10Speaker 3: just taking it like breath by breath, moment by moment, and.
- 3:15Speaker 2: I just want to feel at all.
- 3:17Speaker 1: I dig that moving forward, silent, a pause in the background.
- 3:24Speaker 1: So outside of being able to set some time aside
- 3:28Speaker 1: and be like you know, really blocking time off for
- 3:31Speaker 1: you the same as you would rights are a tour.
- 3:34Speaker 1: What are things you are looking more forward to work
- 3:37Speaker 1: wise now because you've made sure that there's pockets of
- 3:39Speaker 1: Lanny time.
- 3:40Speaker 3: Oh I'm feeling very creative and it's really Americlean.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Yeah you know what. Yeah, my name is Laney.
- 3:48Speaker 3: I'm like, yeah, yeah, yeah, don't put it past me.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Listen. I've seen these throw up gang side at concerts,
- 3:55Speaker 1: so I know that was a peace sign. I don't
- 3:57Speaker 1: know how.
- 3:57Speaker 2: That's my gang sign, gangang.
- 4:01Speaker 1: But as far as the things you're looking forward to
- 4:03Speaker 1: work wise, now that you more so, now that you've
- 4:06Speaker 1: made sure that there's time for you, I.
- 4:09Speaker 3: Think I'm really like in a great headspace of writing
- 4:12Speaker 3: right now. I'm not like writing lots and lots like
- 4:15Speaker 3: I used to. I used to write every day, no
- 4:17Speaker 3: matter what. I used to come down to Music Row
- 4:19Speaker 3: and write two songs a day. I'd write hundreds of
- 4:23Speaker 3: songs a year. Starting to realize that quality over quantity,
- 4:28Speaker 3: I think I needed to do that during a time
- 4:30Speaker 3: of my life to kind of like get the bad
- 4:32Speaker 3: out to get to the good, you know. But now
- 4:35Speaker 3: with all my eggs and a bunch of different baskets.
- 4:37Speaker 3: I kind of feel like, Okay, now I just need
- 4:40Speaker 3: to be making sure that I'm doing whatever it takes
- 4:43Speaker 3: to feel grounded and centered.
- 4:45Speaker 2: So whenever I do go into.
- 4:47Speaker 3: A co write, I can lay it all on the
- 4:50Speaker 3: line and not be like digging around for something. I
- 4:53Speaker 3: need to be very in touch with my feelings.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Let me go back to you mentioned there's times that
- 4:58Speaker 1: you'd be on stage thinking about the next day or
- 5:01Speaker 1: something like that and not present in that moment. Where
- 5:06Speaker 1: was the breaking point for that for you? Oh my gosh,
- 5:10Speaker 1: do you remember.
- 5:11Speaker 3: Like what I just I do remember, even like being
- 5:15Speaker 3: on the phone with my mama at one point last year,
- 5:18Speaker 3: and I swear I think I had let her talk
- 5:21Speaker 3: ten minutes and didn't hear a damn word she said.
- 5:25Speaker 2: And then I thought, oh no, I.
- 5:28Speaker 3: Can't be doing that to the people I love, you know,
- 5:30Speaker 3: Like it's almost like I was tuning out things just
- 5:33Speaker 3: to get through whatever I had to get through.
- 5:36Speaker 2: And here's the thing.
- 5:38Speaker 3: My mama likes to talk, and she probably was not
- 5:41Speaker 3: talking about anything really important, but still I want to listen.
- 5:45Speaker 3: I want I want to be there for my people.
- 5:48Speaker 3: And so when it starts affecting those kind of things,
- 5:50Speaker 3: when it's affecting your friendships and your relationships with people,
- 5:55Speaker 3: because at the end of the day, I'm not gonna
- 5:56Speaker 3: be sitting on the couch with my music career when
- 5:59Speaker 3: I'm eighty five. It's going to be my people. So
- 6:02Speaker 3: I got to take care of my people.
- 6:04Speaker 1: That or it's like if I call my mother or
- 6:08Speaker 1: my grandma who's my mom's mom. They will if I
- 6:12Speaker 1: call them and they're like, how are things? And I'm like, oh,
- 6:13Speaker 1: you know, if I'm like upset about this or something this,
- 6:16Speaker 1: It'll turn around within two minutes. Well, I could be like, oh,
- 6:20Speaker 1: I just found out that I'm termally ill, and my
- 6:23Speaker 1: grandma would be like, well, I got a paper cut
- 6:25Speaker 1: open in the mail. How do you think I feel?
- 6:27Speaker 2: Still? That is hilarious.
- 6:30Speaker 1: I'm like, so, I don't go to grandmar with problems anymore,
- 6:32Speaker 1: but I'd let her talk, let her talk. Celebrating another
- 6:37Speaker 1: number one. It's on the verge of hitting that where
- 6:41Speaker 1: you are mentally now with life and career, and I
- 6:45Speaker 1: can feel more balanced from you than maybe, oh yeah,
- 6:48Speaker 1: I felt in the past. Is this one going to
- 6:50Speaker 1: be more special than the others? Now?
- 6:52Speaker 3: Because well, I'll tell you. For me, it's going to
- 6:56Speaker 3: be special for a lot of reasons. But I'm like,
- 7:01Speaker 3: way more excited for the people that I wrote the
- 7:02Speaker 3: song with. So Aaron Ratier is one of the co writers,
- 7:07Speaker 3: and he just had the big Ella Riley song, so
- 7:10Speaker 3: he's had like two hit songs.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Back to back, and the Alice song was his first
- 7:14Speaker 1: right with his first Yeah, I remember she had said
- 7:16Speaker 1: he'd just been here forever.
- 7:18Speaker 2: He had been here forever.
- 7:19Speaker 3: And then John Deshius, one of my best friends who
- 7:23Speaker 3: I also wrote four by four by U with, this
- 7:26Speaker 3: is his first number one. So it makes me excited
- 7:28Speaker 3: when I get to celebrate those things with my buddies,
- 7:32Speaker 3: it gets me fired up.
- 7:33Speaker 2: For them.
- 7:33Speaker 3: I'm just like, and this is what they moved to
- 7:35Speaker 3: town for this. You know, it was just a dream,
- 7:38Speaker 3: It was just a thought, and then you start dreaming
- 7:41Speaker 3: and then you start just like doing the things that
- 7:44Speaker 3: it takes to maybe maybe just maybe have something good happen.
- 7:49Speaker 3: And after years and years of planting no seeds, it's
- 7:51Speaker 3: cool for me to watch my buddies.
- 7:55Speaker 2: Just flourish.
- 7:57Speaker 1: I know that I never want to to try and
- 8:00Speaker 1: pull info out of you that isn't out there yet,
- 8:02Speaker 1: but I will ask a blanket statement of at some point,
- 8:07Speaker 1: you got new music coming. Anybody who's a fan of
- 8:10Speaker 1: yours or of country music knows that the wheels are
- 8:12Speaker 1: always spinning in your head and the pen is always
- 8:15Speaker 1: right in somewhere. So if you could give us a season.
- 8:19Speaker 1: And I'm not asking for an album, but at least
- 8:21Speaker 1: maybe a song. And I don't need title, I don't
- 8:23Speaker 1: need tempo. But like, if someone's a massive Landy Wilson fan,
- 8:26Speaker 1: they've sat with this album already, it's like, what else,
- 8:28Speaker 1: what else? What else? Just wait for spring, summer, fall, winter.
- 8:36Speaker 2: I'm like, what season are we in right now? I'm
- 8:38Speaker 2: so confused?
- 8:39Speaker 1: Cold as hell it is right now.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Well, I'm confused because I was in Mexico yesterday.
- 8:43Speaker 1: Oh yeah, thanks for bringing that back.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Me, by the way, Yeah yeah, yeah, my.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Hands froze to the car door when I went to
- 8:48Speaker 1: open it.
- 8:48Speaker 2: But I'm glad you guys are so cold.
- 8:51Speaker 3: Just know this, when things start warming up, we're gonna
- 8:57Speaker 3: get to warming.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Lady Wilson, I appreciate you, girl, Thank you.
- 9:03Speaker 2: I see it
