- 0:45Welcome back to The Foundry Corner podcast, I'm Curtis
- 0:49Wilson. I'm Brian siglo buddy, what's
- 0:52up? We're on a Thursday night again,
- 0:54Thursday night, Thursday night, back to the old time slot.
- 0:59Not the new time slot. It's been a week for us here in
- 1:02Richmond, man. Snow all over the place.
- 1:05Kids. Not in school us.
- 1:08Trying to work from home. Yep, with kids, not in school,
- 1:13they push us back until At least the 17th before we are can go
- 1:18back in the office. Oh wow.
- 1:21Yeah. Well I'm going to be here for a
- 1:23while. We have not been given the
- 1:25official date yet, but needless to say the week after the
- 1:29holidays, which was a lot of fun, a lot of fun.
- 1:35I know me. And you talked, numerous times
- 1:37texting back and forth. Yep.
- 1:39Got to say your son's Rainbow Road.
- 1:45Sweet. Yeah, I've been having just as
- 1:49much fun as he has with that. Anybody that's got kids of a
- 1:54certain age, get that Hot Wheels Rainbow Road, it is the shit.
- 1:58All right I'm going to give you all another suggestion kids of a
- 2:01certain age and we say a certain age I'm going to say five to ten
- 2:07eleven maybe even 12. Nintendo switch, Hot Wheels,
- 2:12Unleashed dude, that game is sweet.
- 2:17I mean sweet like a, if you're like us, we have probably three
- 2:25or four hundred Hot Wheels cars in this house.
- 2:27You've seen it feels like you go into this race and you notice
- 2:32and can identify every single car that's on there.
- 2:36And you can customize the cars and you can build tracks.
- 2:41And you can customize. Its it's like so sweet.
- 2:45Like I said here, one day and we were playing like four and a
- 2:48half hours went by like Loops, but but the holidays were a lot
- 2:55of fun. This week's been kind of crazy
- 2:57with all the snow at six, six and a half inches here in
- 2:59Richmond. Yeah we have about five on this
- 3:01side. I know y'all had about another
- 3:03inch or two more than we did. So just lots of crazy stuff man
- 3:08and I tell you it's been too long over two weeks in We were
- 3:11last recorded, and we have a ton to unload tonight in all aspects
- 3:18of hokey football, but we're going to start with a couple
- 3:20hokey headlines, not related to football and Brian.
- 3:23I didn't get to watch this last night.
- 3:26Following try to follow it. What an ugly loss to a windlass
- 3:31conference eight and seven and six tables.
- 3:34Back Hokies fall 68-63. I know you got to watch pieces
- 3:38of it. What what was what seems to be
- 3:40the issue? Ooh, I mean, you know, after
- 3:43that, great Saint Bonaventure win in battle and Duke.
- 3:48It seems like all the old stuff is back up.
- 3:51Yeah. I mean I blame a little bit of
- 3:52it on the layoffs but I mean some of this isn't isn't layoff
- 3:56related. You know, you can't miss
- 3:58point-blank layups, you can't miss the easy ones.
- 4:01You can't miss that many free throws.
- 4:06You know, naheem just has not been himself.
- 4:09The last probably seven or eight games.
- 4:12You can't hang with him that long if he's struggling.
- 4:15You got to get get somebody else out there.
- 4:17There you can't let someone that struggling that badly with their
- 4:21shot, get that many minutes. Yeah, I mean, when you, when you
- 4:25need, when you need points generated because other guys
- 4:28were, we're also not having their best night and then you
- 4:31got a guy that struggling like that you got to you got to do
- 4:34something different and mix it up.
- 4:36I think Mi kyung's problem right now is that he's being a little
- 4:39too he's giving them a little too much leash to try to get
- 4:45their shot back. He was doing a little It was
- 4:48storm when he was struggling, he's doing it.
- 4:49Now, when I eme, I think just a quicker hook and mixing things
- 4:55up a little bit more with the lineups could maybe generate
- 4:59some more offense, but it was also a game where NC State for
- 5:04about two stretches look like they couldn't miss.
- 5:08So that didn't help that it all yes.
- 5:11All people saying that for a couple stretches, one of the
- 5:13first half and one in the second essential when they took the
- 5:16lead and kept it like Five, six minutes where it's like every
- 5:19shot. They take her.
- 5:20They can't miss and I know me. And you talked about the heme
- 5:24yesterday he shot 18 percent from the field.
- 5:28I mean, it's okay to let guys try to shoot their way out of
- 5:31the funk but it comes to a point where it's detrimental to the
- 5:34team and when you still shoot 40% 43 percent from the field.
- 5:40And one guy shoots, you know 18% in your it's a five-point game.
- 5:45Like you said, maybe take putting somebody else in the
- 5:49other piece and I don't think there's any way to fix this just
- 5:52based on how the team's constructed hey I'm murdered on
- 5:54the boards. Yeah or outrebounded by the
- 5:59offensive rebounds were ridiculous team sport.
- 6:03There was a period where there was there was one offensive
- 6:07board on like five or six straight possessions for it.
- 6:10You state. So it was, it was, it was pretty
- 6:13awful. That, that stretch was pretty
- 6:15awful to watch, but, you know, I still think this team has
- 6:22talent, but they dropped so many games at this point, we're
- 6:25seeing a path to the NCAA. Tournament is its narrow at best
- 6:30very narrow. It's going to have to be
- 6:33something like out of the next 12 games and I'm trying to look
- 6:38here at the thing. Yeah.
- 6:39The next 12. Games, which is basically.
- 6:42Almost the rest of the regular season I mean it's gonna have to
- 6:45be 10 the 110 win. I think what we're looking at is
- 6:48like I think what they're 16 left I think they need to go 12
- 6:51and 4. Yeah it makes sense.
- 6:54Yeah yeah. Yeah.
- 6:55That's pretty much what they have to do.
- 6:57Yeah so we'll see we'll continue following it and we have our and
- 7:01some of those wins need to be quad one wins.
- 7:05So got to beat the upper echelons.
- 7:09All right? Other news this week, not
- 7:11related to what Related to football, but not related to
- 7:14football. Was John Ledger stepping away?
- 7:19He tweeted this out on the third Hokies, this will come as a
- 7:23shock and I hate that as effective.
- 7:26Today, I'm stepping aside as voices.
- 7:27The Hokies, my lifelong passion has been sportscasting and
- 7:31representing. You has been my joy and
- 7:33privilege of a lifetime. However, when my dad passed, I
- 7:36started thinking about wanting to do more to help people
- 7:39primarily through mental health, advocacy history, I'm over the
- 7:43last few months, that urges grown, this is the hardest thing
- 7:46I've ever done, but I feel a peace knowing all that we can
- 7:49do. I'll be focusing on Mental
- 7:51Health initiatives in the short term but I will be back in the
- 7:53booth at some point soon know that I love you all and will
- 7:57always appreciate the faith you put in me.
- 7:58And I respect, you always treated me with.
- 8:01I'll always be a hokie. Thanks for being there.
- 8:04And thanks, always for being so keys, please.
- 8:10Kind of a shocker because he was in New York just a few days ago
- 8:14called game. Yeah.
- 8:17And it's kind of funny because some people have laser has grown
- 8:21on them. Right.
- 8:22We hear that from people lasers. Growing on me, I think for me
- 8:25and you heat it was okay from it was great from day one.
- 8:28We were so used to him here in Richmond.
- 8:30Yeah, that was already we associated with it.
- 8:33Yeah, I think that's a difference for Richmond folks.
- 8:35Is that, you know, you were already hearing that voice from
- 8:39time to time. In your sphere.
- 8:41So there wasn't that much jarring.
- 8:44I mean, you know, you heard something, you know, it wasn't
- 8:47touchdown tech. But yeah, it was it was it was
- 8:50different but we were familiar enough where it wasn't as
- 8:54jarring as it was for probably some of the the Roanoke, folks,
- 8:58the Blacksburg folks other folks in the NRV that, you know, were
- 9:03full on or off disciples and don't get us wrong Roth is a
- 9:08disciple. If you are A tech fan of our
- 9:11age. So many calls, whether you heard
- 9:14them on the radio or later, like watching the highlights and they
- 9:17play it, it's always my Vic's. One always appeared in
- 9:21Morgantown. But for John, you know, the
- 9:23Clear Mountain Air, it started coming and, you know, whatever's
- 9:27going on, you know? you know, laser is from every
- 9:34account anyone's ever had lasers a great human being Rick even
- 9:38being. And so hopefully I mean, I don't
- 9:41know if this means he's going to come back to Tech or if he's
- 9:43going to do other things. But for him, God bless him.
- 9:46Whatever. He and his wife decide to do, I
- 9:48know it looks like they're going to be going on around the
- 9:50country road trip. Yes, sounds like they're going
- 9:53to be hitting all the all the points of interest throughout
- 9:55the country and throughout the country.
- 9:56Are we doing some good shit around the along the way?
- 9:58So good stuff. Yeah.
- 10:00Best of luck to him and on this next step and hopefully we'll,
- 10:05we'll get to see him at least in Virginia, when everything
- 10:09settles down, if not, you know, back in Blacksburg, so best of
- 10:14luck to you, ladies, abso-freakin'-lutely.
- 10:17All right, Brian was cut it off. And let's jump straight into the
- 10:20football. And let's talk about some of the
- 10:22new hires. And before we get into the big
- 10:26new hire brine, it's kind of been breaking the last couple
- 10:30days to names have emerged. As FrontRunner for the wide
- 10:35receiver job. Mike Brown down at Cincinnati,
- 10:40played at Liberty from Charlottesville.
- 10:42So if Virginia native and Tony Washington down at kostal, from
- 10:47High Point, North Carolina played down at appstate.
- 10:50These, these guys are like in their 30s, both have NFL
- 10:54experience. They both were in the league
- 10:55about three years. Brown had some significant
- 10:59playing time Washington hung around a few.
- 11:00Good practice broad rosters. In whirling mentioning these
- 11:05guys names because this is stuff that came out in the public.
- 11:08Jason Statham you know I used to write for Rivals rights forever
- 11:13other sources. Now he is set it and I can't
- 11:16remember who was who mentioned Tony Washington out.
- 11:20There was a couple there was a couple guys that mentioned, Tony
- 11:22Washington. I can't remember right off the
- 11:24top. So um, I'm good for either.
- 11:28One of these guys. I'm good for either.
- 11:31I'd probably prefer. Mike Brown It's probably like a
- 11:36like, a 60-40 for me Mike Brown but yeah, I'd be happy either.
- 11:40Way here. I think, Mike seen it, done at a
- 11:45little bit higher level in his current role.
- 11:49Well, I think that probably is probably a little bit more of
- 11:53the reason that I'm kind of leaning that way the mentorship
- 11:55he's had, is a little bit more official.
- 12:00In my, in my mind, I mean back-to-back, I mean,
- 12:04back-to-back New Year, six bowls.
- 12:06Yeah. Welcome back AC titles.
- 12:09I mean, you know, we're going to discuss a little later.
- 12:13His, he's got a guy who's a junior.
- 12:16That is sauce is getting heavy, heavy praise.
- 12:20And he's probably going to be drafted in the first two days.
- 12:25And here's the, here's the one thing on a joke about Brian
- 12:28watching, you know, watching some Coastal games, definitely
- 12:30watching more Sensi. Our wide receivers are still
- 12:34going to run block. Good.
- 12:35Did you watch them? It's but it's all the other
- 12:39stuff that, yeah, they do a lot better, if the stuff you expect
- 12:43wide receivers to do, not the stuff that is, is the nice icing
- 12:46on the cake that we've been getting.
- 12:50So, whenever this breaks, which I think this is probably going
- 12:53to come to fruition probably probably before the next time we
- 12:57jump here before before you hear from us, again, more than likely
- 13:00will have a wide receiver coach. So we can talk about, We'll get
- 13:04all right Brian. When it came out, was about two
- 13:10weeks ago. About a potential offensive line
- 13:14coach. Yeah, we were on watch like just
- 13:18before Christmas holidays. Yeah, but it was about it for
- 13:22that is when the smoke started. Yep.
- 13:26Give me the first thought. Did you think this is bullshit?
- 13:29I'm not getting my hopes up when I first heard Joe Rudolph's
- 13:34name. Floated out there.
- 13:35I was like Well, that certainly would be nice.
- 13:38But that was kind of like, you know, when we were first talking
- 13:41about who a good OC was and we well, if we get Joe, Brady,
- 13:45that'd be great, right? Joe Rudolph was my Joe Brady of
- 13:48offensive line, so that tells you where I landed on this, is
- 13:53that I'm ecstatic. Oh my God.
- 13:57So Joe, Brady are shooting Joe Rudolph announced associate head
- 14:01coach Run game coordinator offensive line.
- 14:05His track record in every sense speaks for itself.
- 14:08He played offensive line at Wisconsin.
- 14:12While Barry Alvarez was beaten up.
- 14:14He was part of that early 1990s, Rose Bowl team.
- 14:18He then played in the NFL five years including with my 49ers
- 14:23back in 1997 after that took some time off and then got back
- 14:28into the coaching ranks in 2004 where he was with Ohio State.
- 14:34it's a g a then doing some strength Kochi moves over to
- 14:37Nebraska goes back home to Wisconsin, coach tight ends then
- 14:42Then we got to know 2012-2014 with pit.
- 14:47Oh, see there with Paul, Chris tight ends coach, then he goes
- 14:52back to Wisconsin where he was basically the.
- 14:58I guess. Secondary offensive coordinator
- 14:59in the old line. Coach?
- 15:01Yep. And man, over that time he has
- 15:06lines. Had blocked for Montee Ball,
- 15:08Montee Ball, Jonathan Taylor. I mean, so many good running
- 15:15backs. He had a guy won the Remington
- 15:17just a couple years ago. I mean, I don't know what to say
- 15:24because this is one of those hires where As fans, you sit
- 15:30here and it's just kind of like, we're going to go get the
- 15:33Wisconsin offensive line coach where you're full of shit
- 15:36before. Yeah, I mean the only the only
- 15:39probably other. I mean, the only thing that
- 15:44would be higher than that would probably be.
- 15:46Okay, well, you getting got Notre, Dame's offensive line
- 15:49coach. I mean, mean, is that is that
- 15:52really the only other coaches? Probably in the same realm in
- 15:55terms of prestige made in terms of what they've done is a
- 15:59program. The guys they put in the NFL,
- 16:02the numbers that they're running backs, put up things like that.
- 16:06I mean it's production central four, running backs and you
- 16:10don't get running back production without good
- 16:12offensive line play. So you can Joe Rudolph.
- 16:16Give me the associate head coach tag.
- 16:18He's getting the running game coordinator tag and he's
- 16:21coaching ol and I mean to me this is as good as it gets in
- 16:25terms of establishing what we want to do and get dark.
- 16:28Identity back. I don't think it's going to be
- 16:33the full-on ground-and-pound that.
- 16:34You see it Wisconsin. I think I definitely think it's
- 16:37going to be more of that kind of a power rpos Smash Mouth spread
- 16:42type type philosophies but having having a guy that can
- 16:49coach that zone but also coach those Gap techniques so you can.
- 16:53Yeah yeah and he can run free and he can recruit and just kind
- 16:59of already having a good understanding of what it means
- 17:03to, you know, strategically set up an offense each week and
- 17:06things like that. He's not just been a position
- 17:09coach. So he's already got that
- 17:11coordinator experience where he's coming in partnering with,
- 17:15what we believe is going to be Tyler bow and we haven't still
- 17:19got the official announcement, but I mean everything's out
- 17:21there that that's the movie. We just got to get this
- 17:24Jacksonville season over with. We just got a good one.
- 17:27Been done. Y'all gotta smash them Sunday
- 17:29and get to the playoffs. Yeah.
- 17:31And we're going to end Tyler Bowens NFL year and then he's
- 17:35going to come to Blacksburg exactly.
- 17:39But just still I think. Now in bronze, kind of you kind
- 17:43of already talked about the Zone in the power schemes that
- 17:46Rudolph. They run both.
- 17:48I think what you get to do for the next, what about six weeks?
- 17:52Because we're a man about six weeks from now.
- 17:54We're going to do a breakdown episode.
- 17:56Yeah, probably. It's going to be either either
- 18:00going to see me doing that episode here with pretty much
- 18:04nothing on the walls behind me, or at the new house with pretty
- 18:08much nothing on the walls behind me.
- 18:09So but either way, Brian gets to start looking at, you know, we
- 18:14already talked about Brad twins. Howard bone stuff.
- 18:19Rudolph stuff. Probably looking at some JoJo
- 18:22Moorhead tape where bones kind of kind of cut his teeth.
- 18:27I mean. Right now and we don't have the
- 18:31wide receiver coach. We don't have the offensive
- 18:33coordinator in name yet, but let's just talk just a second
- 18:37about the staff in general. It's going to mean so much
- 18:42experience, David Cunningham. Shout-out him.
- 18:45He continues to put these spreadsheet together.
- 18:47I think we got, like, 200 years of experience.
- 18:49I'm joking, but we have a ton of experience at the division.
- 18:53One level we have guys who are really good at what they've
- 18:58done. And I was told Brian, right
- 19:02before we got home, you know, this isn't a buddy, buddy thing.
- 19:07Joe Rudolph and Brent pry have no prior connection.
- 19:11If they don't. You start looking like Brad
- 19:14blind? Yeah, he coached with Brent,
- 19:16when they were super young 20 years ago this we must do.
- 19:20You hope Chris Marquis aren't these aren't produce a sip
- 19:23situations. This isn't a produce a situation
- 19:25that wasn't core Nelson and Fuente.
- 19:28The closest thing you can say is a protégé would be Chris Mark.
- 19:33Yeah, that's a kid he coached 10-plus years ago at Vanderbilt
- 19:38But since in the coaching ranks, they've had no connection to
- 19:41each other. Yeah, so it's a staff of guys
- 19:46that he knows but I thought I think I mean the only one he's
- 19:51coached was significantly is Bowing in the last five years.
- 19:54Yeah. so you kind of sit here and it's one of those I think
- 20:00Brett pride has put together a very good staff, but I think if
- 20:05anyone starts slipping I don't think Brent Pratt has that
- 20:07connection where he want shape up or shape up or ship out.
- 20:13Yeah, I think that's the big thing is that, you know, he has
- 20:15the I mean everybody's going to Foster from relationships,
- 20:18especially as therefore as a first-time head coach.
- 20:21Yeah, you're not going to start making calls to just random big
- 20:25names. Yeah.
- 20:26Like hey you want to come here that?
- 20:28I mean that that's Good way to miss on the guys you're aiming
- 20:32for and then other guys that you wanted are now getting jobs
- 20:35elsewhere, you target the guys that you've got relationships
- 20:39with that, you feel like would work at the University that
- 20:42you're at, want to come there and then you go seek them out
- 20:46and I think, coach prize done a good job doing that.
- 20:51Brad Glenn is a great example. I mean I think from a
- 20:53quarterback and passing game coordinator standpoint, it's a
- 20:57good compliment with what we have at OC and what?
- 21:00We now have at offensive line, I think those are those are going
- 21:04to be good. Compliments to one another you
- 21:07know, we're still waiting to hear on on wide receiver but I
- 21:10feel like both of those guys kind of fit that same mold of,
- 21:16you know, and I think again, the focus on recruiting so they the
- 21:19the mold we're looking. At solid reputation is a on
- 21:23field coach. Most of these guys are above
- 21:26average or better recruiters. Yep, abso-freakin'-lutely.
- 21:30And I'll tell you, what else? Braun lets go to support staff
- 21:33because he knocking it out of the ballpark there.
- 21:37Obviously got the white gold on staff.
- 21:39There's a rumor Jarrett Ferguson was in Blacksburg today.
- 21:43Sorry following Galt started following a couple of their
- 21:45Hokey Pokey that he didn't have on.
- 21:47Yeah okey staffers that he didn't have followed the for ya
- 21:51T least ely's but over the time that we were gone.
- 21:55And now if I can't pronounce the name, right?
- 21:57Mike filigrana is going to be the senior director of player
- 22:01Personnel. He comes over from Marshall
- 22:03where he was essentially a GM and basically assembled their
- 22:09recruiting staff, the highest-rated recruiting staff,
- 22:12Have or recruiting in Marshall's history.
- 22:17He had also been director of recruiting at Mississippi State
- 22:20with bleach and Moorhead. He was with pry up a Penn State
- 22:26from 15 to 17 basically in the recruiting department up there.
- 22:32So the way it seems to me is Mike's role is Mike's, probably
- 22:36going to be heading. Recruiting in some way, under a
- 22:40player Personnel? Is that what you're getting from
- 22:43it? Yeah.
- 22:44Yeah. And you know what, I liked about
- 22:47him right off the bat, is that, you know, he brings the Bona
- 22:51fides, but I've also seen him. He's pretty active on Twitter.
- 22:55So he's using social media as a leveraging tool, pretty, pretty
- 22:59off the bat and he's and he's interacting with fans.
- 23:03He's he's like some some post from fans, retweeted some stuff
- 23:07so you like to see that. From a recruiting side off, the
- 23:12field staff perspective. So that's a good start and I
- 23:16thought that was going to be it in terms of kind of big big
- 23:21booze on the off the field stuff.
- 23:23And then we got the news what a few days ago just like, oh
- 23:27Hazel, Michael Hazel, chief of staff and this was a coup
- 23:36because essentially this guy had been doing the same thing for
- 23:38James. James Franklin for quite a few
- 23:40years obviously with prai fostering a relationship up
- 23:44there, he comes down here, he was the senior director of
- 23:49football operations up there and down here.
- 23:54You know, he gets Chief of Staff like up there.
- 23:56He was looking at external operations analytic facility
- 23:59projects, He was the liaison between football and the
- 24:03athletic department marketing. So it sounds like he is going to
- 24:08be the guy. Why that is going to essentially
- 24:10be John Bale on the kids. He's going to be Brent price
- 24:16John beilein and you know you know had got his I tell you this
- 24:23right here this is the one that He went to Elon, he got his MBA
- 24:28from Elan. He got a masters from Bandy, you
- 24:32don't just get to go. Get your master's from Vandy.
- 24:36This guy seems smart and it seems like he knows what he's
- 24:39doing in foreign guy who's going to be the right hand of the
- 24:43coach he needs to know everything.
- 24:45I mean I'm still a little bit shocked that he left in state.
- 24:50Yeah this is a big move. This is a big-time move to get a
- 24:53guy from the program that you're leaving to kind of follow you in
- 25:00in terms of off the field, I can't really think of a better
- 25:04better fit because Is this is a guy that knows what it takes to
- 25:09recruit big-time players to a similarly positioned University.
- 25:15Yep. And I think that that's
- 25:17something that we need understanding our landscape,
- 25:21understanding the benefits and limitations that Virginia Tech
- 25:25has to offer. And being able to sell that
- 25:28properly. I think that that's huge and,
- 25:31and I really don't know of a better off the field move.
- 25:37I couldn't I should say I couldn't picture a better off
- 25:39the field move situation than we've had recently because it
- 25:43tells me that you know we're not that mom-and-pop recruiting and
- 25:49support staff operation anymore. These are Big Time moves that we
- 25:54haven't seen ever. No, ever.
- 25:57And what set it back in with the spring.
- 26:01About the stuff that was going to be happening, right?
- 26:04Yep. And it's happening.
- 26:07Like you said we're no longer mom-and-pop, it's starting to
- 26:10look like a modern-day Collegiate football program in
- 26:16putting all these guys in roles and I don't know, I think me and
- 26:20you probably can't wait probably most of us out there.
- 26:23You probably can't. Wait, what's going to probably
- 26:25happen? Really in the next month, as you
- 26:27start seeing the analysts, as you start seeing the recruiting
- 26:31and how its it's shaped out, obviously me and Brian have
- 26:34thoughts of the way, we like to see it.
- 26:36I'm just interested how it develops, how Brent price puts
- 26:40it together and how he creates his model.
- 26:46All right Brian, let's skip over this.
- 26:48We did have one more hokey, essentially declare for the
- 26:51draft, pay daily transfer. Although he did have a year of
- 26:56Eligibility left Left. He's 23 years old, he had a
- 27:02pretty solid season, you know, good, take to put out there.
- 27:07He's got a Vanderbilt degree. He's probably got his master's
- 27:11from Tech in the next few weeks here.
- 27:15I mean it stinks because you know now it's some very very
- 27:20young back in the safety. We had some guys play while ago,
- 27:26but we're young. Yeah, I think that's something
- 27:30that we need to look into Tay had a good season.
- 27:36I wouldn't call it a great year, but I mean he played well in
- 27:41spots and there were certainly times where he was playing as
- 27:45good or better than everybody else on the on the field there.
- 27:51So it's a loss certainly. But we do have some young guys
- 27:55in that position that are coming in and coming of age.
- 27:59So look for them to make some Make Some Noise this year but
- 28:03congrats to Tay you know once a hokie always a hokey and you
- 28:08know go do your thing. Yes sir.
- 28:11Best of luck to him and all everything came in played great,
- 28:17great teammate. But you know so that that
- 28:22probably is cabinet, you know, to new to gone by the one guy,
- 28:27we think probably should come back but um, the rest of them
- 28:31sometimes it's just time. Sometimes it's just time to go a
- 28:36lot of these guys have their degrees.
- 28:38It's either now or never you keep playing college eventually
- 28:42you know Darrell Smith love to real Smith but not too many guys
- 28:47can go you know seven or eight years in college.
- 28:53And you know what? We're going to jump into next
- 28:56here. We're going to look at the
- 28:59portal and you know I buddy read over from pick six previews
- 29:06we've already talked about it but from previews have been
- 29:09keeping real track with it. In Bryan.
- 29:14There have been 1,000 entries into the portal since August, if
- 29:19a lot of people, a lot of people in the portal that's a ton of
- 29:22people in the portal where I feel for it is I mean there's a
- 29:28lot of guys declared for the draft leaving going to be asked
- 29:30to leave just because they have their degree.
- 29:35There's going to be a lot of kids that don't have anywhere to
- 29:37land that don't have their degree that we're giving bad
- 29:41advice and that's what sucks because we were talking with our
- 29:47buddy, Robbie the other day and it's just like it's free agency
- 29:50now, create is great. You don't happens a lot of time
- 29:54to guys, you go in free agency, they never get signed again and
- 29:57ever play again. That's my fear.
- 30:01There's gonna be kids out there and it that just are never going
- 30:03to find a place to play. Yeah, that's the concern, you
- 30:07know? And obviously, we saw this
- 30:08coming. The transfer portal is free
- 30:12agency for good or ill and I think it's more or less.
- 30:16I mean, it does give players Freedom, which I'm all for, but
- 30:20obviously, with freedom comes risk.
- 30:23So, you know, you take the safety, net away a little bit as
- 30:27well, in exchange for the fact that Hey, you can pack up and
- 30:31move when the when the mood strikes, you when the when you
- 30:34feel it is in your best interest.
- 30:38But again, you're doing that with much less of a safety net
- 30:41than you were before you did because you can do that before
- 30:45you have your degree. You know, you don't have to
- 30:49think about the decision because you don't have to sit a year.
- 30:52So there's not that there's less of a impetus to kind of step out
- 30:58there and see what's out there because if something is out
- 31:02there that that does strike your fancy, you know, you can make
- 31:05the move at any time. So I you know we'll see how this
- 31:10continues to shake out but let's go ahead and while we're talking
- 31:13about the portal let's talk about some of the positions that
- 31:16we are targeting and you know, we had talked about this I think
- 31:23a couple episodes ago where we really need to focus.
- 31:26We I said quarterback was number one.
- 31:30We said probably defensive line was number two.
- 31:34Offensive line and wide receiver or probably 3A and 3B.
- 31:39And and the top notched 11, that we needed to get taken care of 6
- 31:46p.m. tonight. Brian, you saw it?
- 31:49I saw it. Hooking Nation solid.
- 31:52That that we can erase that. Now, go ahead Mark to scribble
- 31:56QB. Room is now significantly better
- 32:00With the commitments of Jason Brown, coming from South
- 32:03Carolina and Grant Wells coming over from Marshall.
- 32:09Who do you want to talk about? First Prime Jason or Grant?
- 32:13Let's start with Jason. Jason first of all, he's coming
- 32:16home. This is a Fredericksburg kid
- 32:19play with Taiwan Garbutt, spent some of his early years up at FC
- 32:24St, Francis, where he was a starting quarterback in 2019.
- 32:30Threw for over 3,000 yards, 62 percent completion percentage,
- 32:3428 touchdowns 600 separations when the 2020 canceled season
- 32:39cancelled, he decided to transfer over to South Carolina
- 32:45where he started four games this year went to and to including
- 32:48beating Auburn and Florida. Seven hundred twenty yards there
- 32:54by a touchdown six, interceptions 63 230 pound.
- 32:58Guy. So, well, built older guy.
- 33:02Do you think he is in the lead as we sit here and they just
- 33:07drop their commitments to come to Tech?
- 33:11That's hard to say. I feel like so we'll talk about
- 33:14granting a second. I feel like Jason.
- 33:17Is that guy that gives you kind of a high floor at the
- 33:23quarterback position? He does a lot of things pretty.
- 33:27Well, he doesn't make a lot of mistakes.
- 33:30He may not win, you a ton of games but he could, he's a guy
- 33:33that can go out there manage the game.
- 33:35Make all the throws won't hurt you and usually.
- 33:40Ali, you're going to go home with the w there so that's what
- 33:43I like about him. Obviously being a HomeTown kid,
- 33:47wanting to play for Tech when he was in high school you know.
- 33:51Finally getting you know the the come around here for for a
- 33:57chance to be a hokie. So that's big and I'm happy to
- 34:02have him. I feel like already that's
- 34:04that's an upgrade to the quarterback room.
- 34:06Even for the 2021 campaign let alone what we thought we might
- 34:09be working with in. Two.
- 34:11And then at the same time we got Grant Wells with the commitment
- 34:16and I feel like he's the he's the higher higher ceiling guy.
- 34:21He's had a little bit more recent playing time playing G5
- 34:27opponents playing Power, you know, some power 5 opponents on
- 34:29that schedule did well. The only thing I'd like to see
- 34:33him clean up is the interceptions.
- 34:34But efficient otherwise, if he can cut his interceptions in
- 34:39half then We're looking at a damn high ceiling for for that
- 34:44quarterback, especially if we're not leaning on him too much,
- 34:49within the running game. Yeah, he is.
- 34:52More of a, he's out of pocket passer, but he's not a true dual
- 34:56threat. He's kind of he's that pocket
- 35:00guy was some wiggle. Exactly what he is.
- 35:04Where Jason doesn't have quite the wiggle, but Jason's 63 230.
- 35:09So you kind of, it's one of those things where, you know,
- 35:13Jason probably can take some hits, especially plane for games
- 35:16down in South Carolina, playing more since we played better
- 35:21competition, he played Clemson, he played Auburn, he played
- 35:25Florida, he saw a better competition and more athletes
- 35:29than Grant Wells did. But don't get me wrong, Grant
- 35:31Wells, you He was the COS a freshman of the Year back in
- 35:352020 in his career numbers are really insane to only play two
- 35:39years over fifty six hundred yards over 30 touchdowns you
- 35:44said it perfectly. He does have to clean the
- 35:46interceptions up and the turnovers in general.
- 35:48He's also fumbled the ball a lot but he has.
- 35:50They both have arms right that both of their arms are better
- 35:54than Braxton's. Are they the appellee?
- 35:56No, they're not. But that's okay.
- 35:59And what we're probably projecting what we're going to
- 36:02Be doing on offense the way. I kind of see it right now is
- 36:07just because Jason Brown has played the level of competition.
- 36:11He's going to see week in and week out here at Tech next year.
- 36:16I think he's in the lead. I also think he's in the lead.
- 36:19He has one year of Eligibility left.
- 36:22One year Grant Wells. Is he just completed his third
- 36:26freshman year, Brian? Yeah, that's impressive.
- 36:30It takes a lot of skill to do that, so, He has essentially
- 36:33three seasons left of Eligibility after this year, and
- 36:38you have Taj Bullock. And I'm going to go in through
- 36:40taaj in there Taj has 4 Seasons, lots of Eligibility so from
- 36:44where we were looking at, oh my God, how are we going to figure
- 36:46this out? You got your one year, Gap guy
- 36:50and then you've got a guy who's played Solid backup.
- 36:56And then you got the project. So, that room went from shit
- 37:02too. This isn't terrible in.
- 37:06Our backup quarterback situation is 100 times better than what it
- 37:10was last year at this point in time.
- 37:11Yeah, we actually have your, regardless of who ends up
- 37:14winning the job. You at least have one guy behind
- 37:17that person, that, you know, can go in the game and get you, get
- 37:21you a winner too. If the starter estimate
- 37:25significant time that, you know, you won't see us in the You can
- 37:29drop off. Like we saw this year where you
- 37:30had to pretty much improvise and offense around the limitations
- 37:36of your backup versus essentially playing playing your
- 37:40offense with a tweak here or there.
- 37:44It's the difference between calling certain plays that you
- 37:48know that guys. It's their bread butter versus
- 37:51having to tailor the entire offense around what that guy
- 37:53does. Well exact Connor blumrich in
- 37:56the game you had to tailor the entire offense. surround power
- 38:01quarterback runs play action passes, things like that, there
- 38:05wasn't A whole lot of Rhythm, none in that offense with Connor
- 38:12at quarterback, and that's not Connors fault.
- 38:15He was put in a situation where he was the best available option
- 38:18which is unfortunate but that's just that's how things shook
- 38:24out. Between knox's, injury between
- 38:28Knox, leaving between noxious limitation between Braxton's
- 38:33injury, Braxton's limitation Braxton into the transfer
- 38:36portal. It'll 20-21 was as bad of a
- 38:41quarterback situation as we've seen. probably ever at least
- 38:47since the I'm trying to even think of wind when it was worse
- 38:54yet to be the only other time. It was really this bad.
- 38:57We were Motley, maybe let me Molly could play me Molly beat
- 39:01for to you. By looking at least throw the
- 39:03ball, he could make all the throws.
- 39:05Can I say in this is no disrespect but 20 years ago when
- 39:10thick went down. Yeah.
- 39:15No disrespect. But we didn't have essentially a
- 39:18backup quarterback. Michael Vick the front end was
- 39:21much higher this, all just a little bit even in the Years
- 39:28with like doorman and tie rod, you felt that maybe Tara I'm out
- 39:33because a couple times Logan had to come in, he made good passes.
- 39:36So probably 20 years ago is probably the last time it was as
- 39:40bad as it was last year because there was no one behind the Over
- 39:44one guy. Yeah, I was thinking maybe I was
- 39:46thinking like front end quarterback that has limitations
- 39:49backup quarterback, that is even a drop off from that.
- 39:52That's why I went with the Brewer Motley thing.
- 39:55You have at least eight. I mean, it felt like they could
- 39:57play. So who knows, man?
- 40:00All right, Brian. The other position we've talked
- 40:02about, and we know two big offers and things are very
- 40:07interesting, the wide receiver room, Jaden blue, got a temple
- 40:11hook up, his numbers, Very good wide receiver has shown, he can
- 40:16do it against P5 competition and Antoine Wells from up at JMU
- 40:21Highland Springs product. Wells is getting a bunch of buzz
- 40:27from a lot of schools everywhere.
- 40:29Yeah, so, you know, if we, if we end up pulling that that's a
- 40:33that's a big pool. I'm not necessarily put it in
- 40:37the bank, especially since we don't have a wide receiver coach
- 40:40yet, but I'll say this. Now that we've got a got
- 40:44quarterbacks it's going to be a lot easier to start talking two
- 40:47wide receivers because up until this point it's hard to say.
- 40:54All right come here but we got Connor blumrich throwing balls
- 40:58and we got a red shirt freshman that saw a handful of Series in
- 41:04a bowl game and that's it. Now, you got two quarterbacks
- 41:09that have seen a good amount of time at various schools.
- 41:15You got something that you can sell.
- 41:17Now you get yourself sell to the wide receivers well, and for
- 41:20God's like Wells, I think blue might have two years of
- 41:24Eligibility left. I think got to go back and look
- 41:26but a guy like Wells, it's like you're not going to be screwed
- 41:30next year. Look at our plan, he's a
- 41:34freshman. You have, if you're going to be
- 41:36here three years, you're going to have a good quarterback and
- 41:40all points in time. And you know, you have the kid
- 41:44from Hawaii went in the pool. Portal the Wyoming kid who blew
- 41:47up this year's in the portal? So you know it's now something
- 41:54you can sell of what you've got. Can I say something else behind
- 41:58this drop before? After you build that run down
- 42:01here, we made an offer to Ryan Johnson, a DNA out of Stanford
- 42:05the this afternoon and again there's your DL.
- 42:11And that's pretty big that again.
- 42:14We're starting to make those offers trying to kind of see
- 42:17what Brent problems to do. Nobody's, additionally left in
- 42:22the last few days but we did have a confirmation and I know
- 42:25this makes you feel good. Maybe not as good as Joe
- 42:29Rudolph. It really good solid stance.
- 42:31He says he's coming back for his super senior season.
- 42:34Yep. That's big for us because that
- 42:36gives us three returning, offensive lineman, with some
- 42:40significant playing time. Time between him and Kate and
- 42:43more and then Parker Clements. So getting those three that at
- 42:49least gives you some foundational lean on.
- 42:51We're probably still going to Target at least one or two
- 42:54offensive, lineman in the portal.
- 42:56Well, we got some younger guys that are coming in.
- 42:59We got some guys that have been in the in the program for a few
- 43:02years that might be able to step into that role thinking of a
- 43:05Jesse Hanson. Shout out, Matt deal.
- 43:15Man I'm sorry you got drugged it was a funny one but yeah but I
- 43:20think Silas coming back to is now you feel like Alice has
- 43:24played both tackling guard, he's played a lot of tackle more than
- 43:30a lot of people think but he's really built through to be a
- 43:32guard. It's one of those things where
- 43:35you've got you feel like I got two of the three, two or three.
- 43:39Insiders figured out Clemente probably can play, I Believe.
- 43:44Guess he's going to be it, right?
- 43:45I think we'll probably go after a left and the portal and
- 43:48sinners wide open which is a little scary.
- 43:51I wish Johnny abroad could come back for one more season but
- 43:54that's probably not going to happen.
- 43:58So you know you sit here and it's just We have three guys who
- 44:04all had played significant time, we have a really good offensive,
- 44:08line coach coming in. You have guys, you can sell in
- 44:11the portal, you have guys who are already on the roster, who
- 44:15may be Rudolph unlocks the potential in them.
- 44:18So all in all not in the bad spot on the offensive line I
- 44:23think me and you were worried likes.
- 44:24If Silas leaves you your best to starters are freshmen And that's
- 44:33scary. Yeah, I agree.
- 44:39It's going to be interesting to see.
- 44:42If they, who they specifically Target in the portal.
- 44:44If they target anyone and how much progression we see in
- 44:50development that we see in the spring.
- 44:54Like, if we see some jumps from guys, in the spring that we
- 44:57weren't anticipating. I think that's a really good
- 45:00sign. You know, if we can find, maybe
- 45:04two other, guys, and again, you've talked about Silas at
- 45:06guard, you know, Silas is going to play whichever a position we
- 45:12needed to play the most, whether that's left tackle or whether
- 45:17that's guard. Probably left guard.
- 45:21So he's either slide in for Lucy to Smith or he's going to take
- 45:24over for Luke to new de. What that looks like is going to
- 45:30is the big question who plays center is a probably a bigger
- 45:34question. I can see his targeting a center
- 45:39in the portal more that I can see is targeting other
- 45:42positions. Just because that's the most
- 45:46need position that we probably don't really have.
- 45:50And established season player on the roster.
- 45:55It's true. So if we if the targeting a
- 45:58player in the portal and we only we're only taking one.
- 46:04I'd like to see his take a center and potentially a left
- 46:07tackle. There's not going to be a ton of
- 46:09left tackles out there in the portal.
- 46:11That that's where I would go. But I'd go center before, left
- 46:14tackle, because I think Silas could potentially hold it down
- 46:17for one season. All right here that man, I hear
- 46:21that yeah it'll just be interesting to see where guys
- 46:25are transferring out of where guys are transferring into and
- 46:31and again it's development upfront to or combat up front
- 46:35but a development of who's there.
- 46:37Yeah. Because again that's going to
- 46:41tell a lot if you don't see us attacking the portal for
- 46:44offensive, lineman a lot. We can then speculate, we really
- 46:49can speculate for the next three and a half months.
- 46:54Who does Joe Rudolph like, and who's we're on the springing,
- 47:01the out there on that first unit.
- 47:07The question is going to be, you know, right now we're seeing
- 47:11guys that are making moves in the portal right now.
- 47:13Want to get on the spring semester with their new team.
- 47:18They want to get spring practice under the belt.
- 47:20There's going to be a bunch of guys that aren't sure where
- 47:24they're going. Haven't got enough B shit where
- 47:26they feel comfortable, pulling the trigger.
- 47:30They're going to ride out the spring and be ready for summer
- 47:35exactly which helps them and hurts them in some way.
- 47:38So it helps them because they get to process.
- 47:43The transfer portal offers and make a better decision for
- 47:46themselves. It's not as rust of a situation
- 47:50there but therefore going the foregoing the chance to get that
- 47:55Spring ball. Get get their position locked in
- 47:59heading into fall camp. They instead of having to go
- 48:01into fall camp for, they got to earn it.
- 48:03It's true. But the other piece is with
- 48:05Spring ball in. For example, let's say we don't
- 48:08come out and we don't have a starting center.
- 48:11We don't have another starting tackle or guard.
- 48:15You go. Put your name in the portal,
- 48:16then look at his tape, he started for two seasons, ain't

- 49:04Dash report. Now back to the episode All
- 49:09right, so the Pinstripe Bowl, wrap brine.
- 49:14Let's start this. Even though we are not Yankees
- 49:18fans by any stretch of the imagination.
- 49:21Nope. Any stretch of the imagination.
- 49:24The helmets that they did were cool as hell.
- 49:29Yeah. Some of the, some of the coolest
- 49:30elements that we've seen, in terms of alternate logos and
- 49:33things like that, getting the Yankee NY on there.
- 49:38That's pretty cool to see, you know, hearkens back to when the
- 49:44Yankees came down to Blacksburg, we're in the maroon and orange.
- 49:48So that was that was really kind of big, probably one of the
- 49:53better. Like I said, better alternate
- 49:55design helmets that we've had So shout out to to the the folks
- 50:02behind that team Clark and everybody else.
- 50:06Yeah, big shout out whoever designed it.
- 50:08It looked great on. I'm I am sure if one of those
- 50:13ever sneaks out of buildings at things going to fetch a lot of
- 50:17money because they said they were not going to auction them
- 50:19off or sell them so that tells me that they're going to people
- 50:23whatever. All right, well let's talk about
- 50:26the game itself. Brian it was an ugly.
- 50:28Ugly game really ugly, Hokies lose fifty four to ten and run.
- 50:33I want to go through our game plan and let's see what, how
- 50:36many X's we get? First of all, we had to field a
- 50:40team. Barely.
- 50:42We did clearly clear. That bar barely Guys like Dwayne
- 50:47Lofton didn't play several other guys didn't play.
- 50:51And I think that was nobody heard nobody had sent home.
- 50:55We were thinner than we thought we were going to be and we
- 50:58already knew we were going to be thin.
- 51:00Yeah, we had starting offensive tackles playing defensive tackle
- 51:03near the end of the game and you know, with all the opt-outs we
- 51:09had. You know, in the time of covid
- 51:12where it was right before all the new guidelines came down.
- 51:18We were super thin and you know it showed in the game plan.
- 51:24And speaking of the game plan, one of our big game plans
- 51:28problem was we said, hey, we need to control the clock.
- 51:33We got to control the clock in this game and, you know, we kind
- 51:38of did it rhyme, you know, we all possess them 34 to 2030
- 51:434226. There's a reason we did that
- 51:47though. There is, but it was one of our
- 51:51keys and we did it. The reason we did it is because
- 52:00we could not limit big passing plays or just big plays in
- 52:04general, the entire game on defense.
- 52:07Oh yeah, I mean, the last two points we talked about for our
- 52:10defense was Bend, don't break and limit the big passing plays.
- 52:15We broke a lot and a lot of those were big passing plays
- 52:19deep down the field for touchdowns.
- 52:24And 70 plus yard runs. Multiple receptions over 25
- 52:31yards. Multiple runs over, 20 yards.
- 52:36Punt returns of 90 plus yards. Yep.
- 52:40Yeah. Um and I think what kind of me
- 52:44and you were talking about the bend don't break in limiting.
- 52:47Those big passing plays. You said, straight up Brian.
- 52:49Like we need to run cover three quarters old game.
- 52:53I saw a lot of man I saw on a single highs.
- 52:56Maya is did you see that or is it just me not knowing what I'm
- 53:00looking at. There was some of that some of
- 53:02the some of it was covered three that because of their alignment
- 53:05became De facto single high based on the routes that were
- 53:10ran and the alignment of the wide receivers, someone was just
- 53:14bad technique. Some of it was just perfect play
- 53:17call against that defense call or the defensive call that time.
- 53:23And so it was just sloppy play and you get that when you have
- 53:29guys that are playing more snaps than they're used to, but to me,
- 53:34The offense, I give a little bit of a mulligan, the players, the
- 53:39players, your defense, the defense.
- 53:42I don't, I don't give them a whole lot of a pass here.
- 53:44I feel like there were enough guys that had played significant
- 53:49snaps on the defense that they should have had more life than
- 53:53they had. If they had given up 38 points,
- 53:56maybe 38 or less, I'd be like. All right, well, that's not a
- 53:59bad effort, considering the thinness and losing a couple.
- 54:04Outline players. What I mean, it's the extra two
- 54:09or three touchdowns there, that really makes the difference.
- 54:12And what was it? Would have been a respectable
- 54:14outcome versus the clown show that we saw now on offense?
- 54:19The thing that I've got to criticism for is the thing.
- 54:21I've criticized the whole year, the play go with the play
- 54:26caller. Yeah, three years.
- 54:28Five years. Yeah.
- 54:31And my big thing is that. Yeah, you started Connor, but
- 54:36This was not a empty the clip, throw everything but the kitchen
- 54:41sink at Maryland. This this was a we do over one
- 54:46borderline conservative, do we do the same offense that we saw
- 54:51rolled out against Miami and UVA.
- 54:55We saw rolled out against Maryland and there wasn't any
- 55:01significant wrinkles added in there to give any sort of new
- 55:05look. There wasn't as much of an
- 55:09emphasis on the running game. I feel is there should have been
- 55:14in terms of getting the ball to the running backs.
- 55:17And I thought there was some opportunity to get the short
- 55:20passing game involved, which we haven't done all year and we
- 55:23didn't do again. You'll do again.
- 55:25Yeah. It was it was same old, same
- 55:27old. And for a guy who potential is
- 55:29coaching for his job, there were no tricks.
- 55:31There were no interesting. And I know people were saying,
- 55:34well, look what we've got here. Here, you know what can we do?
- 55:39Well, that's the thing. You look at what you've got and
- 55:42if you even don't have that much, you still say, we're going
- 55:44to dial up some things, we're going to do some different, and
- 55:47we're going to take some risks because you are playing for,
- 55:50it's a bowl. You're not playing for a
- 55:53championship, you're just playing a football game.
- 55:55It's the last one of the seasons and it's like no we're just
- 55:59going to do this. We're going to do the same old.
- 56:01Simple game Plants going to work.
- 56:03No trick plays. No you know, double reverse
- 56:06passes, anything like that. It was literally I'm just
- 56:10calling these eight plays on a place.
- 56:12She and I'm trying to get out of here as quick as I can.
- 56:17And, you know, yeah, I say he keep play called his way into a
- 56:21high school job. Ooh.
- 56:25Ooh. Um, there was a Jamie Pete.
- 56:27Citing heck of a catch by him on the sidelines.
- 56:30Yeah. Malachi Thomas had, you know,
- 56:35Malik has a freshman. And I think what we saw those
- 56:37last few weeks was a freshman body hitting the wall like so
- 56:43many times but You know, plumber it did the best he could.
- 56:53And should have been a quicker hook to ties your my opinion.
- 56:57If you weren't gonna, if that's the offense, you're going to
- 57:00call, then you should have gotten Taj in there sooner.
- 57:03Every fourth drive, it should have been every fourth drive.
- 57:06He should have been out there running think not going in
- 57:10handing the ball off and then running off the field.
- 57:12He did finally. Come on.
- 57:14Had a couple passes completed. The only seven wash ran the ball
- 57:17a few times. Definitely, I will say this.
- 57:22Look at that. Was like the out pass.
- 57:24He threw like 15-yarder making that up.
- 57:28Nah. That ball had some zip on it and
- 57:32you do it. Nice.
- 57:33On the back shoulder to kind of not Connor.
- 57:36Blundering. Luke bustle the walk on.
- 57:39Yep. Very nice-looking passes.
- 57:42Yeah, you did have the like, what, one overthrow on the
- 57:47little dump. Yeah.
- 57:49So you know there's things to work on probably, you know,
- 57:52working on a touch a little bit and things like that but you
- 57:55know when he got his read knew where he wanted, what knew what
- 57:58he wanted to do with a football right away.
- 58:00Way and was able to step up and make the throw it looked pretty
- 58:04good. You know, there's still
- 58:07obviously things to polish their but that's what spring balls
- 58:11for, that's what fall camps for. And that's what probably one
- 58:16more year of sitting behind somebody's for, I'll follow you
- 58:20guys. Also, he's getting much better
- 58:23coaching staff. Now.
- 58:25Yeah, he's going to coaching staff that honestly based on his
- 58:28frame and his tools is more more designed to take advantage of
- 58:35the skills that he has. So, you know, I think what what
- 58:40we're getting with with Bragg Glenn and what, what we're
- 58:43getting with with Tyler Bowen, and what he likes to do in that
- 58:46system can really work to the skill, set that bullet yeah, I
- 58:54think that's gonna it's going to play play, play to his skill set
- 58:59a little bit more and you know it won't be a run read run go
- 59:04offense anymore so Not at all. And you know, the one thing I'll
- 59:10also say Brian, I think every player we hit on had Maryland
- 59:15had a good game at some way shape or fashion.
- 59:18I hate being right. But that we you know, every
- 59:22every week we sit here guys and we we sort of we kind of
- 59:27independently look and then decide who were going to get and
- 59:34I mean we hit like obviously the Back lit up running back, have a
- 59:38nice day. You know, Darryl Jones was not
- 59:41on our radar. Shout out to that kid from the
- 59:43757, having a hell of a day against the, the Hokies, you
- 59:49know, what can you say? They played great, they had a
- 59:53full staff. They had everyone vested Mike's
- 59:58Loxley is still 26 games under 500.
- 1:00:01He could win 10 games, the next Four Seasons, he still wouldn't
- 1:00:05break 500. You know, that I don't think
- 1:00:09like locksley and that stuff, they had, they called a great
- 1:00:12game against a depleted team and that's all I guess they've.
- 1:00:16Yeah, I don't think that's an indication that they're taking
- 1:00:18another step. I think that's just, you know,
- 1:00:23they play the team that was already down numbers and they
- 1:00:26were down some more and they had an interim head coach, and they
- 1:00:30were starting their essentially third-string quarterback, that
- 1:00:34probably should be an HVAC. There's a lot of things going on
- 1:00:38that are playing into that. So, you know, locksley and I
- 1:00:42know Marilyn, social media had a lot of fun with that, but oh,
- 1:00:45yeah, the prophet thing, they had fun with that.
- 1:00:48Yeah, they were beat. They were beating the shit out
- 1:00:50of their chests for, for being a team that was down like 20, 20
- 1:00:54players, a 10-plus starters and, yeah, it was good job.
- 1:01:00Good job, Maryland. Well, the Penn State folks were
- 1:01:02then just ripping them especially about the private
- 1:01:05because you'll cry on. The 70-yard touchdown and they
- 1:01:08were like, yeah, we see what it is.
- 1:01:10He smacked y'all multiple years in a row so you can come out and
- 1:01:14like this. All right.
- 1:01:15And you remember I think he'd it's didn't Stout even say
- 1:01:18something about it. Yes, that's that's um, just
- 1:01:21remember 2026 right after you just remember that Mike locksley
- 1:01:27will not be the head coach of Maryland by the time we played
- 1:01:30them. If he is they are, you know,
- 1:01:34they want to be mediocre which they are.
- 1:01:37All right Brian, let's hit a few other topics here.
- 1:01:42The playoff games. Let's talk about the Cotton Bowl
- 1:01:45first. Bama Cincinnati.
- 1:01:47What's your take on that? Just You know, I thought that
- 1:01:52Cincinnati played pretty well overall, especially on defense.
- 1:01:57Just what you saw with what Bama was able to do on both sides on
- 1:02:02the trenches is where the differentiator was.
- 1:02:05Yes, once they got a decently, they were able to just grind the
- 1:02:09game out on offense and they were able to dominate Cincinnati
- 1:02:13upfront with their defensive line.
- 1:02:16And their friends seven Kim. Can I ask this into something,
- 1:02:19you know, everybody to White Vic kept talking about?
- 1:02:21He said he loves to run those three man.
- 1:02:23He loved to play against three men fronts.
- 1:02:28Were you shocked at Bickle and that defensive staff didn't
- 1:02:31adjust? Because my thought was, could
- 1:02:34you take one of those outside linebackers and that 335
- 1:02:37stacking almost make them like a 9 or an 8 in shift, shift,
- 1:02:41everybody different gaps? They never did it now.
- 1:02:44And I think if you still had Marcus Freeman, you would have
- 1:02:48Okay, because he was he was known that despite the the base
- 1:02:55alignment, he would throw different fronts at you
- 1:02:57especially if he saw problems that we're going on.
- 1:03:00So I think if you still had Marcus there, you would have
- 1:03:03probably seen that adjustment. That's I'm not, I'm not trying
- 1:03:07to knock here but I think just the feel of it and the flow of
- 1:03:12it. I would have probably got more
- 1:03:13guys on the line of scrimmage and taking my chances that we'd
- 1:03:17be able to To get them before they got past.
- 1:03:19The second level also think that saving is what he is.
- 1:03:27He had a month to prepare. He saw how good those
- 1:03:29quarterbacks were he was without Michi his best wide receiver.
- 1:03:34He wasn't going to challenge them that much.
- 1:03:36He wouldn't go to go out there and say almost just sling around
- 1:03:39all day. Not we're going to run the ball,
- 1:03:41we have more Joe's than they had.
- 1:03:43We're just going to grind them down.
- 1:03:45Now. The Orange Bowl.
- 1:03:51I mean I hate to say this Georgia just used the game plan.
- 1:03:55They should have used Monday, they have played the game plan
- 1:03:59up to show Alabama. Hey here's how we can beat you
- 1:04:02guys. Quick short passes will running
- 1:04:04games and taking shots over the top occasionally.
- 1:04:07But what does the quick short pass do?
- 1:04:08I mean so so Michigan. If you do with the gate will
- 1:04:13Anderson exactly. You can't, you can't impact the
- 1:04:17quarterback at the balls on in the quarterbacks hands anymore
- 1:04:20and you Right. And you saw it.
- 1:04:24I mean Hutchinson I mean that guy's going to be a stud NFL
- 1:04:27player. Don't get me wrong, he is.
- 1:04:31But to me Kirby Smart. Again, they had that month to
- 1:04:36prepare. He knew what he had to do, but
- 1:04:39he laid the game playing, this can beat Alabama.
- 1:04:41He gave Nick Saban a week to say, oh you're going to do this
- 1:04:45watch for a lot of press in that game.
- 1:04:48Watch for a lot of, get your hands over here.
- 1:04:51Don't come up because he's trying to get them out here.
- 1:04:53Here where they did. If they ran their normal
- 1:04:56offense, they would have beat Michigan.
- 1:04:59It would not have been a blowout, but they would have
- 1:05:01beat Michigan. And I don't I don't get that,
- 1:05:07maybe it's one of those things where they thought, well, if
- 1:05:09they're hidden, some of those trick plays and some of those
- 1:05:11into rounds and they get to the mid-20s, we've got a score, it
- 1:05:17shows pretty early. I don't think they, I don't
- 1:05:20think they thought that Michigan.
- 1:05:23I think they thought Michigan was going to be able to score
- 1:05:25more, so they thought they had to match on point for point.
- 1:05:30So ultimately, because they were able to get them out of the game
- 1:05:34a little bit early, they were able to Feast on them in the way
- 1:05:37that that defense likes to yes. So once it once they got the
- 1:05:42lead, it really played into that defense has strengths which is
- 1:05:46the opposite of what happened in the the Bama Georgia game in the
- 1:05:51SEC Championship. So, yeah, I think, I think
- 1:05:55that's the big thing in Georgia is going to need to do that
- 1:05:58again. They're going to need to in my
- 1:06:00opinion. If they're gonna win that game,
- 1:06:01they need a lead. Late.
- 1:06:03Second quarter. Something to keep keep that
- 1:06:07game, slow down get bad. My little bit out of their game
- 1:06:12plan because band was going to be a I think again is going to
- 1:06:18want to run the football. Well they're going to run the
- 1:06:20football but they're going to they're going to throw it like
- 1:06:22they did and that first game. What Bama did is Bam has got the
- 1:06:27blueprint. The question is, can Kirby a
- 1:06:32just enough to take away that Without without exposing other
- 1:06:37parts of his game which savings and chess master because if he
- 1:06:42see, I think Kirby's going to do this, he's going to have the
- 1:06:45game plan already laid out of what him and bother going to.
- 1:06:50All right. Can we just say this prayer on
- 1:06:52what we're talking about? Now is y12 is a better format.
- 1:06:58We're talking about so much time to prepare so much time to get
- 1:07:01ready. Savings guy, saving and Kirby,
- 1:07:04Smart both have thousands of analysts.
- 1:07:05They really don't have thousands, but they have a lot
- 1:07:07of Staff. Where if you go when it goes to
- 1:07:1212 and I truly believe it's going to go to 12 before, 2025,
- 1:07:19you're not going to have that time anymore because on the 12
- 1:07:23models, you're going to have probably two weeks, right?
- 1:07:25Two weeks is going to be the longest span.
- 1:07:27You have to Weeks to four weeks. And in that case, I know
- 1:07:31somebody says, well, that's a lot of time to break things
- 1:07:33down. It's a lot of time to break
- 1:07:35things down, but what it's not a lot of time to do is to
- 1:07:40implement the game plan, right? Yep.
- 1:07:44You can't move, you can't do a week of break down a week of
- 1:07:47installation and then two weeks of practice.
- 1:07:50Yeah. And that's why I still think
- 1:07:54going to the 12 model which we're going to get probably some
- 1:07:58time into the spring when we have one of these weeks.
- 1:08:00I thought Brian, what were you doing the day?
- 1:08:03I sent you. Like 19 text like this long.
- 1:08:05Each your phone drops up. I'm trying to let you come back
- 1:08:11to me and you're like, hey, dude everything.
- 1:08:13Okay, all right. Oh sorry, could you like I'm
- 1:08:15doing something like oh shit. Sorry bro.
- 1:08:17Yeah, for you. What I was doing, he was doing
- 1:08:20something and I, and I I sent him a ton of text about the way
- 1:08:2412 has to break down and we'll do that later but that whole
- 1:08:28having not having as much time is where it's going to give the
- 1:08:32Lesser teams and Advantage because when you give, Nick
- 1:08:35Saban or Kirby Smart all that time, to break it down,
- 1:08:39implement it run practices implementing it, that's why they
- 1:08:43win. That's why they're so damn good.
- 1:08:49Let's hit this other Hot Topic Brown because it It was so hot
- 1:08:54over the past real 10 days, the bowl opt out.
- 1:08:59What's your feeling on? This is a guy who plays.
- 1:09:02Oh man, I've said a lot about this on Twitter off, Twitter
- 1:09:08around Twitter. So anybody that's seen what I've
- 1:09:11said, probably either already knows what I'm going to say and
- 1:09:15hates it or loves it but To me, I think the problem that we have
- 1:09:22is that we wrap the bowls in, with the current playoff format,
- 1:09:28and then say these bowls that used to matter no longer matter,
- 1:09:32okay? Yeah.
- 1:09:33Because you've wrapped them into the same package that you have
- 1:09:38with this college football, playoff.
- 1:09:39But obviously, the playoff games matter more, they mean more.
- 1:09:44And when you had a scenario before, with the BCS, you had
- 1:09:49two teams more or less that we're playing for it all, but
- 1:09:54New Year 6 still mattered to a degree.
- 1:10:00It matters less now with the, with the current format in my
- 1:10:03opinion. If you're not in the, if you're
- 1:10:05not in those college football playoff games, the new year, six
- 1:10:08game mattered, Less in terms of prestige in terms of players
- 1:10:14wanting to go there and and the opt-out so the opt-outs, I
- 1:10:19support the opt-outs. I'm not anti opt-out.
- 1:10:22I personally wouldn't be a person opting out of these
- 1:10:24games. That's because that's I'm an
- 1:10:29experienced guy. If I've got a chance to
- 1:10:31experience something, I'm going to take advantage of that.
- 1:10:33I didn't get seriously injured enough in my career, where I
- 1:10:38would have been too had that in the back of my mind.
- 1:10:40I had one, I had one, Serious injury, and a couple injuries
- 1:10:45that kept me out of game or two. I was never injured to the point
- 1:10:49where I was missing, you know, 10 plus games or anything like
- 1:10:55that. That I had lingering injuries
- 1:10:59that cost me things and probably limited My overall ability but I
- 1:11:06never had anything catastrophic that kept me from playing games.
- 1:11:11Except for one again, one injury that that I talk in there.
- 1:11:15Yeah, your ankle. Yeah.
- 1:11:17And that was nearly a thousand that was half.
- 1:11:19That was halfway through the next to last game of the season,
- 1:11:22my senior year. So yeah, so I missed a game and
- 1:11:26a half for that. I missed an entire offseason
- 1:11:29recovering, so really, when I rolled into my freshman year
- 1:11:32hampden-sydney, I was pretty much not in the shape.
- 1:11:35I'd like to be in a boot forever.
- 1:11:40Yeah. So But like, that's neither here
- 1:11:42nor there but I but when it comes to bowls, you know, that's
- 1:11:46something, just the experience of it would be a big deal for
- 1:11:50me, but if you know, if my bank is is dependent on that in my
- 1:11:55family is depending on, you know, me doing something.
- 1:11:58And even guys that are kind of that Fringe draft player that
- 1:12:02are opting out hoping to just make a camp as an undrafted free
- 1:12:08agent. I mean, you're not going to do
- 1:12:11that if you get injured and I know, you know, we can talk
- 1:12:14about, you know, one catastrophic injury in the bowls
- 1:12:19being a big deal and it's missing.
- 1:12:22Yeah. So with McGee all of that mess.
- 1:12:29Yeah. So I mean there's always the
- 1:12:31chance of that happening but in my get the people say, well if
- 1:12:36that's going to happen, I want to be playing for something. um,
- 1:12:41Again, this, this is why I go towards the 12 team playoff
- 1:12:45because you can you can get more of those those formatted games
- 1:12:50in there and something. Yeah, they mean something more
- 1:12:55games mean something that's going to limit the opt-outs.
- 1:12:58So that'll help your, your school's roster your school's
- 1:13:02ability to be competitive in those games.
- 1:13:03And, you know, again, I'm not for getting rid of the bowl
- 1:13:09format all together, but I think, I think we need to stop
- 1:13:13kidding ourselves that You know, bowl games matter if you want to
- 1:13:20attend them, I don't think they matter outside of that.
- 1:13:23I don't think you necessarily oh, your team.
- 1:13:28A exhibition game. If you have bigger things in
- 1:13:30mind for your future. Exactly.
- 1:13:33That's, that's my feeling. That, like, you can sit here and
- 1:13:36you can say, Well, I would play, I would play if you knew you
- 1:13:42were guaranteed a figure paycheck.
- 1:13:49You would think, not think you say you wouldn't think twice
- 1:13:52bullshit if you're guaranteed an eight-figure pay say, well, if I
- 1:13:55get any time, we'll still get drafted what you just said and
- 1:13:59they figure paycheck or get into a camp.
- 1:14:03It makes sense. Now, what could be done to
- 1:14:07entice, these kids, we have name image and likeness.
- 1:14:10Now if you're one of those bowl games and you really want one of
- 1:14:13those kids to play shell out the money for them.
- 1:14:18You can do it, you can make them a, they can be in a commercial
- 1:14:23for your company. Here's a million dollars.
- 1:14:24Come play for us, then you'd have the kids thinking about
- 1:14:28things. And to your point to I think the
- 1:14:31way the new year six is going to go in the way it's kind of
- 1:14:34shaping is those bowls are going to be involved before New Year's
- 1:14:38day. They just are They are.
- 1:14:43And then the those bowls will matter in a in that regards if
- 1:14:48they're being played earlier, the other bowls are going to
- 1:14:50start getting more prime-time spots.
- 1:14:54You know, more Prestige. So you still have a chance to go
- 1:14:58out there and play anything that I've said.
- 1:15:01I'm not upset, you know, you know what, have somebody on the
- 1:15:05team that teaches these kids, how to understand, and get those
- 1:15:08insurance policies. Like, we want you to play the
- 1:15:12cat is in the room with you. By the way, just it just jumped
- 1:15:15on the table. I have someone to educate, like,
- 1:15:26you know, I really don't want to play in this.
- 1:15:28I want to play this game but I'm I don't want anything to happen.
- 1:15:31I'm going to get drafted in the first round.
- 1:15:33All right, cool. Bring this guy in.
- 1:15:35Hey, you can look at taking an insurance policy and if
- 1:15:37something catastrophic happens to you, Your policy covers you
- 1:15:43up to whatever? I think the Jadeveon Clowney
- 1:15:45was, like, 5 million dollars, which life-changing money.
- 1:15:49He's clearly made a lot more. So, it is what it is with
- 1:15:54life-changing money. Even if you know that that's
- 1:15:57your ceiling, it's absolutely. You know, if you're not, if you
- 1:16:03don't have to use it then you know, that's all the better,
- 1:16:06especially if you're high caliber player because you're
- 1:16:08probably making that. First-round picks are making
- 1:16:11that in there their first year in the league more or less
- 1:16:15between incentives and rookie deals.
- 1:16:18Exactly. All right Brian.
- 1:16:20Let's touch on one other thing. Real quick, the passing of John
- 1:16:23Madden. For kids like us.
- 1:16:28I think our generation is man encompasses everything.
- 1:16:34Yeah because and this is why I'll say this we didn't see him
- 1:16:40Coach but we need he was a coach and when you who was a really
- 1:16:43good coach then he became the voice of the NFL for us.
- 1:16:47Yeah and then when we were you know, Les elementary school
- 1:16:53early, middle school Madden comes out.
- 1:16:57And you know it was everything he was all part of her life.
- 1:17:05It literally changed the game of football in terms of how we
- 1:17:10think about it. Everything that we do with
- 1:17:13fantasy football. Now is in a lot of ways tied to
- 1:17:19Madden and some of the the the redraft formats that they had in
- 1:17:25some of the bad dynasties and things like that.
- 1:17:27That. So I mean a lot of these things
- 1:17:29are tied into that. Yeah.
- 1:17:33What's the first one? You remember, what's the first
- 1:17:35one in your head when you when you think mad and what was the
- 1:17:38first one? You remember playing the first
- 1:17:40one? I played a lot was 94.
- 1:17:43I play 95 a lot. I think that's your also got my
- 1:17:46Sega to so need sense. But what's your favorite
- 1:17:53Favorite. Oh man.
- 1:17:56That's tougher. Probably I can't remember the
- 1:18:00year but it was the second one that was on the PS2.
- 1:18:05Because the the first one there were still a lot of bugs with
- 1:18:08the because it was the one with the first true.
- 1:18:12It was hang on everything free. Let's see.
- 1:18:25I think it was Either three or four.
- 1:18:31I think it was 03, okay? All right.
- 1:18:44Yeah, actually. 2002. Well, okay.
- 1:18:48Okay. Okay.
- 1:18:49So one was the first one that was on on PS2 senior year in
- 1:18:54high school. Then right?
- 1:18:55Yeah, that's the one I'll go with.
- 1:18:59I mean, there's been others. It had more features and better
- 1:19:01features but I feel like that was the first one that kind of
- 1:19:06Made it more of a true football simulation versus yeah.
- 1:19:12Some of the less graphically capable games in the in the Sega
- 1:19:17generation. And PS, one generation and the
- 1:19:21PS1 generation. I'm 06.
- 1:19:25I'm 06, guess I don't use the vision thing.
- 1:19:28I always took off the vision thing, but every other thing, it
- 1:19:31felt like you were truly running, the franchise, the
- 1:19:34draft, and stuff had been there. The practices have been there.
- 1:19:37But when you could do the practices midweek with plays,
- 1:19:41And like, if you ran those plays enough, it would like make you
- 1:19:44better during the game. That was always mine, but the
- 1:19:48guy himself was an incredible football coach.
- 1:19:53And again, if I said our generation when, we were 10 or
- 1:19:5612, you start hearing John Madden, the 1970s weren't that
- 1:20:00far off. It was like, I was only 20 years
- 1:20:02ago, you start reading. Holy God, he won, 100 games, he
- 1:20:05won a Super Bowl. He coached all these, you know
- 1:20:08Hall of Fame players. And what ends Bill, he's still
- 1:20:12the the king of win percentage rate seventh.
- 1:20:15He wants 75 percent of his games at Sun bean and I don't think
- 1:20:21that'll ever be touched because going to more games, but then
- 1:20:24watching him, you know, as a Niners fan in the 90s, He called
- 1:20:30so many of our big games lip and I mean you got to get him later
- 1:20:34with with Peyton, but you knew especially in the mid 90s mid
- 1:20:41nineties. If it was him and summer, all
- 1:20:44calling your Grant. You a game of the week is a big
- 1:20:46ass game was a big game and I always like what somebody said
- 1:20:51because some people said he was bombastic and over the top and
- 1:20:55he was silly with the drawings. He brought football to where
- 1:21:01someone like myself who didn't play understand it.
- 1:21:06He was able to easily break down the nuts and bolts and then give
- 1:21:11it to you like he, he essentially so he took the
- 1:21:16ingredients and then he gave you a dish.
- 1:21:19Yeah. Like I can take the ingredients
- 1:21:22and see the dish, but you might not see the dish looking at
- 1:21:26those ingredients. But once he breaks it down into
- 1:21:28the meal and gives it to you on a plate, yeah you can digest it.
- 1:21:32So he did that so well and I think you know, just an
- 1:21:38infectious personality. You know you can call it
- 1:21:41bombastic if you want to infectious.
- 1:21:45You better work? Yes.
- 1:21:46Just you just felt like you felt like if you said Talk to him
- 1:21:51like he would explain it to you and I don't know if you heard
- 1:21:54this story. Did, you know who used to teach
- 1:21:56a like an entry-level class like an intruder football?
- 1:22:02Laughing. If you taught him how?
- 1:22:04Yeah, he taught an account and someone said that's why he
- 1:22:07became so good at being able to what you just said.
- 1:22:10Convey it to just anybody. Because in that class you to be,
- 1:22:13get into the nuts and the bolts and getting hard and he would
- 1:22:16see deer. And they were like, he would see
- 1:22:18the deer in the headlight. Looked when you pull it back.
- 1:22:21So essentially, every year he had someone to go to, but, you
- 1:22:26know, it's an icon lost. It was literally days after the
- 1:22:30all-madden documentary, which I have not At watch.
- 1:22:32But I heard it's pretty cool. I did I watched it on the day.
- 1:22:36Came out. Yeah.
- 1:22:38Christmas Day night. I was sitting there with my
- 1:22:40father-in-law, very nice. Yeah, in the living room,
- 1:22:44watching that kind of just wrapping up a nice Christmas
- 1:22:48Day. And I mean, I know, I know when
- 1:22:51they were talking about the making of it, you know, that,
- 1:22:55you know, his family told him, just the sections that he was,
- 1:22:57he was interviewed. It was just going to kind of be
- 1:22:59a little small thing and then obviously they brought And you
- 1:23:03know, these all time guys and guys that he spent a bunch of
- 1:23:05time with and folks that he was on the road with, with his crew,
- 1:23:10you know, and it turned into the, the documentary that it
- 1:23:13was. And I think that, you know, him
- 1:23:17living this to see that I think was really, really big for him.
- 1:23:21So it was really great. So, rest in peace, John Madden.
- 1:23:29Now, Brian, let's go look at The bowl pick ones.
- 1:23:35I'm still trying to figure this out.
- 1:23:36We ended up with the same number of total wins predicted, you
- 1:23:40have more losses. I'd still don't figure that out.
- 1:23:43That's the whole all Saturday. Pickens Brian wins.
- 1:23:47Bold pickles though. I take on the regular season,
- 1:23:50Brian takes on the bowl season, if you would have went with
- 1:23:53Brian 2114, you'd have made some people, some money.
- 1:23:57I ended up 17 and 18. I still don't know how the way I
- 1:24:00started like winning. Like winning one game out of
- 1:24:04first aid, but uh, real good bowl season.
- 1:24:07Lot of really fun games, especially the games don't
- 1:24:11matter. But New Year's Day those three
- 1:24:14games on New Year's Day, man. The the fiesta, the Outback in
- 1:24:22the Citrus were probably three of the best games of the year.
- 1:24:25Yeah, absolutely. And and then the rose just
- 1:24:32unbelievable. I mean You know.
- 1:24:39It's why you need, why you need talented guys, schemes great in
- 1:24:44Utah, played their nuts off that game but you saw that talent in
- 1:24:49the end you know with you know especially Jackson Smith new
- 1:24:53Java, holy shit. I mean that kid went 300-plus
- 1:25:00yards, lit It Up, made a name for himself, definitely a first
- 1:25:04round Talent, probably coming out next year.
- 1:25:07So, you know, great bowl season. And there's there's one more
- 1:25:15Brian just to begin. Today's from, we got one more,
- 1:25:18man, For national championship game and we'll do our pics on
- 1:25:23it. I will watch it.
- 1:25:27That's just the love. I know some people were saying
- 1:25:30not going to watch. It's just an SEC thing.
- 1:25:33Bama Georgia, nnd Georgia, the favorite land three points.
- 1:25:38Brian, what do you say on this one?
- 1:25:42I'm taking Georgia. I think the money line in spread
- 1:25:49money line in spread. I think it's a, I think it's a
- 1:25:55title that's like a four-point win for for Georgia late.
- 1:25:59Touchdown retake the lead. Okay, and Bama can't get it down
- 1:26:06the field and enough time. So I'm gonna go Georgia.
- 1:26:09I think them seeing what Bama did in the SEC championship game
- 1:26:14at is the difference. I think this is kind of an
- 1:26:16inverse of the previous SEC National Championship where a
- 1:26:22matchup was played earlier and the victories were swapped.
- 1:26:30I think this is another situation where the victories
- 1:26:32are going to be swapped. So I think that Georgia takes it
- 1:26:36here. All right.
- 1:26:41I'm not going to bet against saving.
- 1:26:43I don't know what they'll win, but I'll take Kamon.
- 1:26:45Once on my thought is smart has to eventually get a win here.
- 1:26:50He eventually. Right?
- 1:26:51But I just again, if Georgia had one, I think it's Georgia had
- 1:26:58won the Michigan game, closer, and not shown a lot of cards.
- 1:27:02I think I might be leaning Georgia, but that, that worries
- 1:27:06me, You can't show that much to Nick Saban unless you've got
- 1:27:11something really schemed up. Deep Todd Monken for Saban in
- 1:27:18that offense because they've shown they can crack the armor
- 1:27:21of what seemed to be an impenetrable defense already.
- 1:27:26So I just want a good game. Yeah.
- 1:27:30And next year we got a crummy game the year before that we got
- 1:27:33a crummy game. The year for that, we got a
- 1:27:37crummy game. We haven't had a really good
- 1:27:40national championship game and almost four years.
- 1:27:44Yeah, so I just want a good competitive, fun game to watch.
- 1:27:52I've been to need earlier, Brian, both of our proteins,
- 1:27:56when you're in, right. Dip, when y'all are definitely
- 1:28:00in, we win, we're in. If we lose, we'll need some help
- 1:28:04if we win. We're in regardless.
- 1:28:07Yeah, we could have closed it out last week but We played down
- 1:28:12to a lesser competition, like, we've done and we lost another,
- 1:28:17you know, one score game. Yeah.
- 1:28:20Well, we beat up the Texans with the rookie quarterback and now
- 1:28:24the discussion is, do you start the rookie against the Rams, or
- 1:28:27do we start Jimmy against the Rams?
- 1:28:30I don't know. Don't care if the Saints beat or
- 1:28:36lose to Atlanta, where, in regardless, And I'm trying to
- 1:28:40look up when that game is hold on a second.
- 1:28:44Efforting, efforting here. Efforting, all we have to do is
- 1:28:48beat the Jags who don't have a head coach, and have eleven one
- 1:28:51there. One there in seven years.
- 1:28:55Y'all got to get a monkey off, y'alls back?
- 1:28:57Yeah, seven years Braun lets see which well to me because we
- 1:29:06never lost there for so long over.
- 1:29:10Yeah. The the Saints game is of
- 1:29:12course, going to take place the same time as our game that 425.
- 1:29:17So, you know, you got to play your nuts off regardless.
- 1:29:22We gotta play. I mean, this is why they've set
- 1:29:24this up like this and the funny part is you heard what could
- 1:29:30happen right with that old if y'all lose or if y'all was
- 1:29:36y'all, if y'all lose the Chargers and or if y'all win,
- 1:29:41The Chargers and Raiders like should play to a tie or
- 1:29:44something funky like that. I'm we're sure we're if we
- 1:29:50filled the stands here it was like if So if y'all lose the
- 1:29:58rate y'all be 9 & 8. Oh yeah.
- 1:30:00They should play do Thai. So they have one less loss, they
- 1:30:03had their 97 and one which percentages take them above
- 1:30:06y'all them. Which would be crappy.
- 1:30:12But then the Steelers can make it into doing that.
- 1:30:15So it's kind of funny, but it is what it is.
- 1:30:18Let's just write them. So we don't have to worry about
- 1:30:19any of these scenarios, that's all I want.
- 1:30:22I just want to see my team play in January and relevant
- 1:30:25football. So, you know, is what it is,
- 1:30:28Brian. Has anything broken, the last
- 1:30:30hour and a half since we jumped on here and some fun man?
- 1:30:33I think we're good. All right, well, that will wrap
- 1:30:36up this episode of the boundary. On a podcast.
