- 2:42Speaker 1: Swernemann Flooring. This portion of the program is brought to
- 2:49Speaker 1: you by Superior Air Repair. We thank you for being
- 2:53Speaker 1: with us on this Thursday Tomorrow. Kirk Bolls Tony Catalina reports,
- 3:00Speaker 1: I'm told tomorrow on the program. You know last week
- 3:06Speaker 1: we had Matt Johnson on talking about Fat Bear week. Well,
- 3:12Speaker 1: some of you may not have seen the results, but
- 3:15Speaker 1: Chunk has finally done it. The behemoth of the bear
- 3:20Speaker 1: more than a thousand pounds, garnered almost one hundred thousand
- 3:26Speaker 1: votes in the final round, beating out Bear eight point
- 3:30Speaker 1: fifty six by thirty thousand votes. Chunk is the boulder bodied, bruiser,
- 3:41Speaker 1: girth growl, and the glory of the past seasons behind him.
- 3:46Speaker 1: According to cat My National Park and Preserve, Chunk came
- 3:53Speaker 1: very close to clinching the crown the last two years,
- 3:56Speaker 1: but ultimately lost by a wide margin to Grazer, the
- 4:03Speaker 1: first female bear ever to win the back to back competitions.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Grazer lost in the quarterfinals an upset to Bear eight
- 4:13Speaker 1: point fifty six. Grazer's yearling Cobb won the Fat Bear
- 4:19Speaker 1: Junior competition in mid September, which guaranteed her a spot
- 4:25Speaker 1: in the main competition, but she was eliminated on the
- 4:29Speaker 1: third day of voting. Fat Bear voters are tasked with
- 4:34Speaker 1: picking the animal that best exemplifies fatness and success. I
- 4:41Speaker 1: think I should enter that thing anyway. Our congratulations to Chunk,
- 4:50Speaker 1: who was quite frankly the favorite from the beginning. It's
- 4:54Speaker 1: not easy, you know, being the presumed winner. And Chunk
- 5:01Speaker 1: did it, Man, Chunk did it. I've just got a
- 5:07Speaker 1: little factoid for you. By the way, while I'm thinking
- 5:14Speaker 1: about it, let's do this. I'm going to have some
- 5:17Speaker 1: I just had the fat Bear results. I'm going to
- 5:19Speaker 1: have some bear stories coming up here in about thirty minutes.
- 5:24Speaker 1: And I want you to know that our Animals Attack
- 5:28Speaker 1: segment is brought to you every week by Shulty Roofing,
- 5:32Speaker 1: Home of the Bulletproof Roof Guarantee.
- 5:35Speaker 5: It was after a hailstorm a few years back. I
- 5:37Speaker 5: needed a new roof. Yeah, I shopped around and then
- 5:40Speaker 5: I found Shorlty Roofing and point I'm glad I did.
- 5:43Speaker 5: The folks at Shorlty guided me every step of the way.
- 5:45Speaker 5: They showed me my options, They told me what my
- 5:48Speaker 5: out of pocket cost would be after insurance. They took
- 5:51Speaker 5: the complication out of an otherwise very stressful situation. They
- 5:54Speaker 5: took off the damage roof, put on the new roof,
- 5:56Speaker 5: did all the clean up, and I had my new
- 5:58Speaker 5: roof in one day.
- 6:06Speaker 1: If I were to ask you, who is the only
- 6:08Speaker 1: president that I know of that's ever written a book
- 6:12Speaker 1: on phishing? Who would that be? What would your guest be?
- 6:17Speaker 1: The only president that has ever written a book on phishing?
- 6:23Speaker 1: Herbert Hoover, thirty years after his presidency, published a book
- 6:29Speaker 1: called Fishing for Fun and to Wash Your Soul. I
- 6:34Speaker 1: like that. I like that Fishing for Fun. Herbert was
- 6:42Speaker 1: rather portly, was he not? I don't know if I'd
- 6:45Speaker 1: want to see him waiting in a trout stream anywhere?
- 6:49Speaker 1: Might you know? I had secret service around So I
- 6:51Speaker 1: guess it's okay. I want to mention this, and it
- 6:55Speaker 1: may already be full, but I'm going to mention it anyway.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Tomorrow there is a white tail Deer workshop put on
- 7:07Speaker 1: my anm Agrolife Extension service from nine to four lunch
- 7:12Speaker 1: included forty dollars registration. And again I don't know if
- 7:18Speaker 1: it's if it's full, but I will give you information
- 7:23Speaker 1: and you can figure out whether it's full or not.
- 7:31Speaker 1: I'm gonna give you a phone number. It's eight three
- 7:34Speaker 1: zero six six zero five nine three six eight three
- 7:39Speaker 1: zero six six zero fifty nine thirty six. Or register
- 7:45Speaker 1: online at Texas dash Wildlife dot org Texas dash Wildlife
- 7:53Speaker 1: dot org and you will see all the different events
- 7:56Speaker 1: that they'll have. And again that's a day long thing tomorrow,
- 8:00Speaker 1: but it is Agrolife Extension and it is habitat management
- 8:06Speaker 1: for whitetail deer, nutritional requirements, habitat control methods, field demonstrations,
- 8:14Speaker 1: screw worm update, a lot of things. If you have
- 8:18Speaker 1: land or you have a lease that you want to know.
- 8:21Speaker 1: So again that's tomorrow on the program. A couple of things.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Is it still to nothing? Caleb? Do we know that
- 8:36Speaker 1: Cubs padres going to the top of the fourth? Okay,
- 8:40Speaker 1: going to the top of the fourth. Cubs lead to
- 8:42Speaker 1: to nothing, Tigers beat the Guardians six to three. I
- 8:46Speaker 1: want to mention college football tonight, Sam Houston State and
- 8:53Speaker 1: New Mexico State, the Aggies all the way from Las Cruces,
- 8:59Speaker 1: New Mexico and Aggie Memorial Stadium. What if Calfield were
- 9:05Speaker 1: Aggie Memorial Stadium. Yeah, well, it's too much like the
- 9:12Speaker 1: Memorial Stadium in Austin, So you don't want that, right,
- 9:18Speaker 1: And then the huge slate tomorrow night. I don't know
- 9:21Speaker 1: if you guys have planned tomorrow night, but I'm telling
- 9:23Speaker 1: you need to cancel them. And all of these games
- 9:26Speaker 1: are on TV, every one of them. It's hard to
- 9:29Speaker 1: believe that these five games I'm going to give you
- 9:32Speaker 1: are all televised tomorrow. That would be Western Kentucky at Delaware,
- 9:38Speaker 1: the Fighting Blue Hens, Charlotte and South Florida. That's a
- 9:44Speaker 1: huge American Conference game. New Mexico San Jose State. How
- 9:50Speaker 1: about those Lobos at three and one? Do you realize
- 9:53Speaker 1: they had their first sellout last year in like eight
- 9:56Speaker 1: years or longer it could have been, you know what,
- 10:02Speaker 1: it could have been eighteen years, like two thousand and seven,
- 10:07Speaker 1: they sold out. Who'd they play last week? New Mexico State? Yeah,
- 10:11Speaker 1: of course, New Mexico State. Oh you that's the biggest
- 10:15Speaker 1: rivalry in the West right there. They did beat UCLA, Well,
- 10:21Speaker 1: everybody's beating UCLA. Well. They've got an interim coach right now,
- 10:25Speaker 1: right West Virginia at BYU. That's eight thirty tomorrow night
- 10:31Speaker 1: on ESPN, eight thirty our time, nine to thirty Eastern time.
- 10:41Speaker 1: Everything's Eastern time on ESPN. And Colorado State, San Diego State,
- 10:50Speaker 1: Colorado State, San Diego State. You don't believe me, but
- 10:53Speaker 1: I'm telling you the truth. Everything ESPN done is out
- 10:57Speaker 1: of Connecticut. All those times are Eastern times, they're not
- 11:00Speaker 1: Central times. Oh and I'll mention this again. Fall baseball
- 11:07Speaker 1: tomorrow a him in sam Houston State, six o'clock Olsenfield.
- 11:10Speaker 1: They're going to play twelve innings.
- 11:13Speaker 6: Okay, huh, no way, then why does this say nine
- 11:21Speaker 6: thirty here on this ESPN sheet college school?
- 11:26Speaker 1: No way, get out of here. I never knew that
- 11:31Speaker 1: they know where I am. And they're telling me what
- 11:34Speaker 1: time the game starts. Well, but hey, it won't hurt
- 11:39Speaker 1: to turn on the game an hour early. And you know,
- 11:42Speaker 1: just get ready for the big pregame show for all
- 11:44Speaker 1: those games that are that are going to be that
- 11:47Speaker 1: are going to be going on. And I'm going to
- 11:50Speaker 1: mention this one more time because I thought we were
- 11:52Speaker 1: done with this. Stupid me, silly me Ross Dellinger's reporting
- 11:58Speaker 1: they're working out to expand the NCAA Basketball Tournament from
- 12:03Speaker 1: sixty eight to seventy six teams. The first twelve games
- 12:10Speaker 1: will be referred to as the opening Round. Woww how
- 12:16Speaker 1: about that? I just more money? I mean, you know,
- 12:23Speaker 1: I don't know how much more. I guess enough to
- 12:26Speaker 1: make it worthwhile. Would you look up the the TV
- 12:32Speaker 1: broadcast deal agreement n CAA Basketball Tournament broadcast rights and
- 12:38Speaker 1: see how much is being paid out because it's a
- 12:42Speaker 1: long term contract, and you know they how much. One
- 12:51Speaker 1: of the reasons the only reason the nc DOUBLEA is
- 12:54Speaker 1: still in business is because they own the college basketball tournament. Okay,
- 12:59Speaker 1: eight point eight million, and which is over win okay
- 13:05Speaker 1: through twenty thirty two. Okay, eight point eight billion. So man,
- 13:10Speaker 1: I hope they can squeeze another two hundred million out
- 13:12Speaker 1: of this and get to nine billion. That would be
- 13:16Speaker 1: so good. Then they can pay all those people that
- 13:18Speaker 1: wander around the hallways in Indianapolis that didn't SEEAA headquarters,
- 13:22Speaker 1: that don't have anything to do. Okay, were we ready
- 13:26Speaker 1: for this? We are in fair Play, Colorado, just off
- 13:33Speaker 1: the middle fork of the South Platte River with Scott
- 13:36Speaker 1: gonglewire of Mountain Outfitters in Breckinridge and Breckenridge. Ought to
- 13:43Speaker 1: be out here and fair play taking pictures today, this
- 13:46Speaker 1: chamber commerce today.
- 13:47Speaker 7: Yeah, bluebird skies, warm temps, very little wind, cold water,
- 13:54Speaker 7: happy trout.
- 13:55Speaker 1: It was cold water. It was in the thirties right
- 13:58Speaker 1: this morning.
- 14:00Speaker 7: Yeah, it was probably right around that thirty nine to
- 14:02Speaker 7: forty degree temperature to start. It was cold over here
- 14:06Speaker 7: in the valley last night. And with the water being low,
- 14:09Speaker 7: it gets cold fast. But the good news with that
- 14:12Speaker 7: as it warms up fast too.
- 14:13Speaker 1: And you mentioned because we started fairly early, not real early,
- 14:17Speaker 1: but you said that they got to warm up the
- 14:19Speaker 1: water's cold, and it happened. We caught a few fish,
- 14:23Speaker 1: raised a few fish, but that sun had to come out.
- 14:25Speaker 1: We had to raise his temperature a few degrees right
- 14:28Speaker 1: for them to get a little bit active.
- 14:30Speaker 7: Yeah, they stay pretty inactive until their food sources get active,
- 14:34Speaker 7: and then when the food sources get active, ve get active.
- 14:37Speaker 1: Well, you promised us that there wouldn't be a lot
- 14:39Speaker 1: of bucks right now during this time of the air,
- 14:41Speaker 1: and given the weather and all of that, we didn't
- 14:43Speaker 1: see tons of bucks.
- 14:44Speaker 7: No, we didn't see a lot of insects hatching, but
- 14:46Speaker 7: there were some, and there were enough to get the
- 14:49Speaker 7: feet the fish going.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, the other thing we talked about is
- 14:53Speaker 1: we raised a number of fish today called one good brown.
- 14:59Speaker 1: You're telling me that some of these larger trout. Most
- 15:01Speaker 1: of the trout we saw today were smaller. The larger
- 15:04Speaker 1: trout are on the move.
- 15:06Speaker 7: They're either on the move or they're underneath the banks sulking,
- 15:11Speaker 7: which is quite possible this time of year for them
- 15:13Speaker 7: to just take shelter and they're getting ready to do
- 15:17Speaker 7: their annual dance.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Yeah, they're spawning soon.
- 15:21Speaker 7: They'll be spawning soon. So sometimes they are just underneath
- 15:25Speaker 7: the banks conserving energy for that.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Did they spawn twice a year up just in the fall?
- 15:29Speaker 7: The browns?
- 15:30Speaker 1: It the brown trouts?
- 15:33Speaker 7: Yeah, you know, I've read some articles about in ideal conditions,
- 15:39Speaker 7: some trout will spawn twice a year, but I've never
- 15:41Speaker 7: seen it.
- 15:42Speaker 1: So it's a little surprising to me that they're spawning
- 15:47Speaker 1: in the fall because the cold weather, which is it's
- 15:50Speaker 1: cool here, but it's just around the corner.
- 15:52Speaker 7: Yeah, So when the brown trout lay their eggs, those
- 15:57Speaker 7: eggs stay in the rocks, until the spring and don't
- 16:00Speaker 7: gestate until then, no kidding, no kidding.
- 16:03Speaker 1: So even when I mean a river like this is flowing,
- 16:08Speaker 1: there'll be parts of it that ice upter in the winter,
- 16:10Speaker 1: will there not?
- 16:11Speaker 7: It will almost be completely iced over. Yeah, And those
- 16:15Speaker 7: eggs they incubate all winter long, and then in the
- 16:19Speaker 7: spring when the flows come back up and the water
- 16:21Speaker 7: gets warmer, when those eggs will hatch.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, that is that's amazing to me. So
- 16:28Speaker 1: there's no predators after those eggs during that time of year,
- 16:33Speaker 1: I'm guessing No, there's not.
- 16:34Speaker 7: All the migratory birds have they've practically already left already.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Yeah, and otters around.
- 16:42Speaker 7: Not in this river. We do have otters in Colorado,
- 16:44Speaker 7: but this river is too small.
- 16:45Speaker 1: For that, Okay. So they need a little deeper water.
- 16:48Speaker 7: They need deeper water that won't freeze in large sections.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Now, I know I've talked to you about this before,
- 16:55Speaker 1: but we're not far from the reservoir south here, right.
- 16:58Speaker 7: Yeah, Spinning Mountain res where as the crow flies maybe
- 17:01Speaker 7: twenty five miles south river miles probably seventy.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Five, and a lot of big trout come in and
- 17:09Speaker 1: out of that reservoir.
- 17:10Speaker 7: Yeah, they work their way up through the course of
- 17:12Speaker 7: the summer, get ready for the spawn for this time
- 17:14Speaker 7: of year, and then they either die like a salmon would,
- 17:18Speaker 7: or they either winter over or they saunter back to
- 17:22Speaker 7: the reservoir before everything freezes over.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Are there some of these larger trout that will still
- 17:29Speaker 1: be coming into this river to lay their eggs? Do
- 17:31Speaker 1: you think you said some of them are later the
- 17:33Speaker 1: banks could serving energy, But will there be more coming?
- 17:37Speaker 1: I did very little, Okay, So they're already here.
- 17:40Speaker 7: They're already here. They come up early in the summer
- 17:43Speaker 7: when the rivers are high, and then they can It's
- 17:46Speaker 7: like a highway where they can just get up and
- 17:48Speaker 7: down the river wherever they want to go without having
- 17:51Speaker 7: any beaver ponds or shallow riffles to impede their movement.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Now we know about sama. Do you think brown trout
- 17:58Speaker 1: come back to similar places, like in the same spot
- 18:02Speaker 1: in this river every year?
- 18:04Speaker 7: Well, they say that they come back to where they
- 18:06Speaker 7: were born, but I think it's probably generalized within the
- 18:11Speaker 7: same three four mile stretch.
- 18:13Speaker 1: How was the summer fishing.
- 18:16Speaker 7: The summer fishing is fantastic in our area. We've got
- 18:21Speaker 7: within an hour and a half. I think two thirds
- 18:25Speaker 7: of the Gold Medal waters in Colorado are accessible to
- 18:28Speaker 7: Mountain Anglare.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Now I fished with you in February. It's been a
- 18:32Speaker 1: while ago, and I've talked to you about the fact
- 18:35Speaker 1: that at sometimes you fish all year, and we fished
- 18:40Speaker 1: in weather that was about it was in the twenties,
- 18:43Speaker 1: but it wasn't blowing. It was clear snow on the ground. Obviously,
- 18:47Speaker 1: we caught some monster trout using the smallest flies that
- 18:52Speaker 1: I and I was younger than I could barely see them.
- 18:55Speaker 7: Yeah, So the only insects that hatch in the winter
- 18:58Speaker 7: are it's called a midge and they are very small.
- 19:03Speaker 7: Think of them as a French fry. Those French fries
- 19:07Speaker 7: come down the river and there's no big max to
- 19:10Speaker 7: be had, so that's their diet in the winter.
- 19:15Speaker 1: And man, what I one of the things that surprised
- 19:18Speaker 1: me is even I was able to get some of
- 19:20Speaker 1: these big fish in on these little bitty hooks.
- 19:23Speaker 7: Well, the long rod is designed to fight a fish.
- 19:27Speaker 7: There's a lot of give and take. It's quite it
- 19:30Speaker 7: does an effective job being a shock absorber to the
- 19:33Speaker 7: fight of the fish. Now, some of those fish you caught,
- 19:36Speaker 7: if you caught them in the summer, they would have
- 19:38Speaker 7: been a little bit more spunky.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Yeah, with the cold water, I mean their body temperatures
- 19:45Speaker 1: are way down.
- 19:46Speaker 7: Yeah, they still fight great, but they're certainly a little sluggish.
- 19:49Speaker 1: In the winter. So since COVID, I know, the COVID
- 19:53Speaker 1: year was crazy for fly fishing. Have you seen people
- 19:58Speaker 1: come back from that? I mean, obviously there were some
- 20:02Speaker 1: people that had to say, Hey, this is pretty cool,
- 20:04Speaker 1: I'm going to continue to do this. Yeah.
- 20:06Speaker 7: I think you know, a large portion of the people
- 20:08Speaker 7: who took up the activity during COVID have stuck with it,
- 20:14Speaker 7: and vice versa. There's a lot that haven't stuck with it.
- 20:18Speaker 1: But your demands still pretty good here. Yeah.
- 20:20Speaker 7: I mean we're as busy as we need to be.
- 20:23Speaker 7: On a day in, day out basis, we normally are
- 20:27Speaker 7: turning clients away.
- 20:28Speaker 1: How many guides in the shop in the summertime?
- 20:31Speaker 7: I think we have thirty nine this year, Holy smokes.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Yeah, we're not.
- 20:36Speaker 7: A big operation, but we're pretty busy.
- 20:38Speaker 1: So during the course of the summer, are there a
- 20:42Speaker 1: lot of days where all of those guides are on
- 20:44Speaker 1: the river?
- 20:45Speaker 7: I would say rarely do we have thirty nine going
- 20:48Speaker 7: out there's a lot of the Some of the guys
- 20:51Speaker 7: are part time, some of the guys need a day off,
- 20:54Speaker 7: some of the guys have other jobs. But I've also
- 20:59Speaker 7: seen ninety people in the shop in the morning getting
- 21:01Speaker 7: ready to go fish.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Gosh, And I know you do a few float trips
- 21:04Speaker 1: out of the shop.
- 21:05Speaker 7: Yeah, we have an arsenal of boats. I think we
- 21:10Speaker 7: have eighteen or twenty float guides.
- 21:15Speaker 1: And again there are not necessarily this time of year
- 21:18Speaker 1: because the levels are down, but there are a number
- 21:21Speaker 1: of rivers within an hour and a half that you
- 21:24Speaker 1: could choose from.
- 21:25Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 21:25Speaker 7: I mean the big river that we float this time
- 21:28Speaker 7: of year is the Colorado River, and we start floating
- 21:31Speaker 7: it and ice off, which is normally early April, and
- 21:35Speaker 7: we will fish it in one section or another, maybe
- 21:40Speaker 7: even as far down as Glenwood Springs through November.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Okay, okay. And I know for a fact that you
- 21:47Speaker 1: had boats going out this weekend because I talked to
- 21:49Speaker 1: him about it.
- 21:50Speaker 7: Yeah, this is the time of the year to be
- 21:53Speaker 7: in a boat floating down the Colorado River. It's pretty
- 21:55Speaker 7: special place.
- 21:56Speaker 1: And I don't want to give your places away, but
- 21:59Speaker 1: one of the rivers runs through the area is the
- 22:01Speaker 1: Blue River, And you talked about how you fish the
- 22:06Speaker 1: Blue this year because in the peak of the summer,
- 22:10Speaker 1: there's a lot of people on all of these rivers,
- 22:12Speaker 1: is there not?
- 22:13Speaker 7: There is? And some of the rivers are more user
- 22:16Speaker 7: friendly and some maybe aren't geared towards the beginners or
- 22:22Speaker 7: the neophytes.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:23Speaker 7: And I will go to different rivers to try to
- 22:27Speaker 7: stay away from the crowds when possible.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Is that possible sometimes? Oh?
- 22:32Speaker 7: Yeah, for the most part. Yeah, it depends on the
- 22:34Speaker 7: client and the experience they're looking for, you know, their age.
- 22:39Speaker 7: Some of the older folks can't maybe walk as far
- 22:43Speaker 7: me you. Yeah, I didn't say you, but.
- 22:46Speaker 1: You didn't need to. Everybody knows that. Yeah.
- 22:48Speaker 7: And so as a shop, we just can't take ninety
- 22:53Speaker 7: clients to one spot. So we do have to spread.
- 22:56Speaker 1: Out, right, And you can't take twenty boats to one
- 22:59Speaker 1: river generally speaking.
- 23:01Speaker 7: Well, no, But the good thing about the Colorado River
- 23:03Speaker 7: is that we have are a lot of area. We
- 23:06Speaker 7: have I think sixteen put in in takeouts, not including
- 23:10Speaker 7: private access we have, so we can spread out people
- 23:14Speaker 7: pretty easy on the Coloraud of River.
- 23:15Speaker 1: You've been doing how long have you been doing this?
- 23:17Speaker 7: I started with Mountain Angler in ninety six.
- 23:19Speaker 1: Okay, so you've been doing this a while, so you
- 23:22Speaker 1: pretty well know your clientele. I know you fish new
- 23:25Speaker 1: from time to time, so you have an idea of
- 23:29Speaker 1: what these people want to experience right when the day starts.
- 23:33Speaker 1: Like when we talked yesterday, So what do you want
- 23:35Speaker 1: to do, said the river's law I said, I don't care.
- 23:38Speaker 1: You know, we want to go out and fly fish,
- 23:40Speaker 1: and we couldn't have had a better day. But I
- 23:43Speaker 1: know you're going to tailor that to your clientele.
- 23:46Speaker 7: Absolutely. It makes no sense to take somebody to a
- 23:50Speaker 7: river that I would consider better for expert anglers, yes,
- 23:55Speaker 7: if they've never fly fished before, right, because it would
- 23:58Speaker 7: be you know, throwing the mud against a wall.
- 24:01Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 24:02Speaker 1: I know skiing is a huge industry here, huge industry.
- 24:07Speaker 1: But without fly fishing. You put fly fishing and skiing together,
- 24:11Speaker 1: you have a pretty good economy most years. Without fly fishing,
- 24:16Speaker 1: what would Breckenridge be like?
- 24:18Speaker 7: Uh, I think the same. It would be lots of tourism. Yeah,
- 24:23Speaker 7: we get a lot of traffic from states where it's
- 24:28Speaker 7: not fun to be outside in the summer because it's
- 24:30Speaker 7: too hot yep, And we get a lot of traffic
- 24:33Speaker 7: from even the front range cities like Denver and Fort
- 24:36Speaker 7: Collins and Colorado Springs because when it's ninety eight down there,
- 24:39Speaker 7: the last thing they want to do is be outside.
- 24:41Speaker 7: They can come up to the mountains and it can
- 24:43Speaker 7: be twenty five degrees cooler.
- 24:45Speaker 1: We met people from Minnesota last night who were coming
- 24:48Speaker 1: in because that we're digging the weather too. It was
- 24:53Speaker 1: they go, you know, we're gonna go back, and by
- 24:56Speaker 1: the time we get back until like April, let's be
- 24:58Speaker 1: pretty cold. Yeah.
- 25:00Speaker 7: I mean it's cold, but our winter a dry cold.
- 25:03Speaker 7: It is a dry cold. And when it's if you've
- 25:07Speaker 7: never experienced twenty eight degrees with the bluebird sky sunny day.
- 25:12Speaker 1: It's a fishing day right there.
- 25:14Speaker 7: In Colorado in the winter, and you're pretty.
- 25:16Speaker 1: Warm, yeah, no doubt, no doubt. Well, I'm thinking it's
- 25:20Speaker 1: in the sixties right now. Is that fair?
- 25:22Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 25:23Speaker 7: I haven't seen a thermometer, but that was the forecasts
- 25:28Speaker 7: for high fifties, low sixties.
- 25:29Speaker 1: Yeah, and in sunshine. You know, we're peeling off layers
- 25:33Speaker 1: right because it's not what it would be at home,
- 25:37Speaker 1: fifty degrees with say a wind blow out of humidity
- 25:40Speaker 1: I guess.
- 25:41Speaker 7: Yeah, humidity makes a huge difference on how you feel.
- 25:45Speaker 1: And the other thing is we ask about Mosquitos while
- 25:48Speaker 1: we were starting this morning goes You said, well, it's
- 25:50Speaker 1: already been thirty degrees. You're not going find the mosquitoes. Yeah.
- 25:53Speaker 7: Once we get that first heavy frost which we had
- 25:55Speaker 7: last week to Mosquito's ten.
- 25:57Speaker 1: You all, you've had a little dusting of snow up right.
- 26:01Speaker 7: Up hie over twelve thousand feet, but it shouldn't be long. No,
- 26:05Speaker 7: by beginning of November. What's on the ground tends.
- 26:08Speaker 1: To stick around, okay, and generally speaking, and I know
- 26:11Speaker 1: there was heavier snows up in Rocky Mountain this last week.
- 26:15Speaker 1: They had a little snow in Albuquerque. You usually get
- 26:19Speaker 1: a pretty good snowfall. You can get a pretty good
- 26:22Speaker 1: snowfall in September. From now on, it could snow right.
- 26:25Speaker 7: Oh yeah, absolutely. I've seen it snow three feet in
- 26:29Speaker 7: September in the middle of September this time of year.
- 26:32Speaker 7: And I've also seen it not snow until the middle
- 26:35Speaker 7: of November. So every year is different.
- 26:37Speaker 1: How was how was the rainfall this year? We had
- 26:41Speaker 1: a snowpack.
- 26:43Speaker 7: The snowpack was down, so we were kind of behind
- 26:46Speaker 7: the eight ball to start. We were able to fill
- 26:48Speaker 7: all over reservoirs and then we had a little bit
- 26:52Speaker 7: of rain through June in July, not probably as much
- 26:54Speaker 7: as much as we needed, and then in August we
- 26:57Speaker 7: had a pretty bad dry.
- 26:59Speaker 1: Yeah. Hey, I told you, I think we have more
- 27:02Speaker 1: rain than you did this year in the summertime.
- 27:05Speaker 7: Every time I looked at the map, it looked like
- 27:07Speaker 7: it was raining in Texas.
- 27:08Speaker 1: That's okay. I'm never going to complain about that. Best
- 27:13Speaker 1: way to get in touch with you and it's I
- 27:15Speaker 1: tell you, as you've heard, these guys stay busy, so
- 27:20Speaker 1: if you can, it's best to book ahead of time.
- 27:23Speaker 7: Yeah. Absolutely. The more foresight you have on what your
- 27:27Speaker 7: vacation plans are going to be, the more options you'll
- 27:30Speaker 7: have on a fishing trip with us.
- 27:31Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 27:32Speaker 1: Well, I appreciate it. We miss you this summer, but
- 27:36Speaker 1: we had to come back and fish because we catch
- 27:38Speaker 1: more fish with you than anybody. And I don't think
- 27:41Speaker 1: it's a coincidence. It could be, but I don't think
- 27:44Speaker 1: it is.
- 27:45Speaker 7: Well, you know, I'm glad you made it out, and
- 27:48Speaker 7: I'm especially happy to see your wife.
