- 0:28Welcome not only to inside the treehouse, but welcome to a brand new year,
- 0:35New Year, New stupid, all coming at you from inside this stupid
- 0:40little treehouse. So welcome to the very first, not only episode of the
- 0:46new year, but the very first Friday of twenty twenty four. You've made
- 0:51it. Yeah, I have a question though, is it really is it
- 0:56new year, new stupid or is it new year, same stupid. See
- 1:00I struggled with that when I made the posts, and I wasn't sure because
- 1:03I've I've gone both ways on what to say, not the other thing,
- 1:07because I played with the idea before, like when we first launched the podcast,
- 1:11it was, hey, it's kind of a new show, but it's
- 1:15not. Is it the same stupid? Is it new stupid? I would
- 1:19how how how do you position it? How do you sell it? And
- 1:23I just I just I went with new Year, new stupid because I wanted
- 1:27to use the word new twice stupid two point zero. Damn, I should
- 1:34have gone with that. I' when to write that down. I'll make a
- 1:37note for next year stupid three point Oh. Yeah, we're always updating the
- 1:42stupid. Oh you got to keep the stupid fresh. We learned a lot
- 1:47from the Duncan Man in the eighties. Got to wake up right and early,
- 1:52and you got to make the stupid Yeah, I got to keep people
- 1:53happy. But it's interesting because we took a couple of weeks off physically from
- 2:00doing the show. Listener wise, it was really only about a actually not
- 2:06even a week, because we released episodes on our normal schedule all the way
- 2:10up to and including the very first day of the year, which was of
- 2:13course Monday, the first. But we were able to take a little time
- 2:17off, and in that time we have now figured out that taking time off
- 2:23if you're a megalomaniac CEO, time off for your employees can be bad,
- 2:30as we learned, like maybe Scrooge was right. Maybe he was looking out
- 2:36for crotch It crack It. What was his damn name, Bob crach You
- 2:44don't know either, Bob Cratchit, Bob Cratchit. Maybe he was looking out
- 2:49for Bob Cratchitt's best interest. Yeah, because we managed over these two weeks
- 2:54over the holidays, we are limping into twenty twenty four a shell of the
- 3:00men we once were. Because Raj got into a car accident, not his
- 3:07fault, but still had happened, and you're still reeling from the effects of
- 3:10that car wreck. Drey managed to suck up the flu at some point over
- 3:15the holidays, And I mean, for the most part, I'm okay,
- 3:21but you two are really really if I can be so frank in the shit,
- 3:25Yeah, I like to think of us because I didn't know you had
- 3:30the flu. And I don't trail and think you knew I had a car
- 3:31wreck, because I think we talked about it before, but I didn't know
- 3:36you had the flu. And I was thinking to myself, like, you
- 3:37know, we really didn't talk to each other very much during these couple weeks
- 3:40off that we had, and then it just reminded me of like we're very
- 3:44much like if this was a band, we're very motley crew, Like we
- 3:46don't talk to each other at all until it's time for the ship. We
- 3:51get our fill of each other when we're in here. Outside of that and
- 3:54we scattered, we go and do things and experience things, and then it's
- 3:59very much like Listener. Then you come back in the treehouse and you share
- 4:02those experiences with one another because we weren't there for those things in between.
- 4:08Yeah, I did, I did get in the car. It was very
- 4:10nice. A couple of people, a couple of the listeners reached out to
- 4:14see how I was doing over the break unlike youtubeh about that, Oh,
- 4:20Roger, let me. I'll give you a really a cliff notes version of
- 4:25my holidays. Okay, Chris. Christmas night, I spent in the e
- 4:29r with my mom who had COVID and she was in the hospital all the
- 4:32way through Sunday New Year's Eve. Wow. And then on Sunday New Year's
- 4:40Eve. Actually it's I started feeling it Saturday night, but then on Sunday,
- 4:44I by the time, by the time the ball dropped, I had
- 4:47one hundred and two fever. No, that's and yesterday it was the first
- 4:53day I had fever for basically seventy two hours. And then yesterday finally it
- 4:58broke and h But so yeah, that was that was my my luxurious uh,
- 5:04you know, holiday vacation. But but you didn't have to go into
- 5:08the did you have to work? I went into work on on Christmas or
- 5:14on New Year's Eve because obviously it's a big night. And and it was
- 5:17by the time that was the worst. Pat It's the worst flu I've ever
- 5:20had and and the body aches is what made it. I mean, there
- 5:24was a point where I was like, my toenails hurt. Wow, But
- 5:29I started my kidneys were hurting, and I was like okay, I like
- 5:31I'm I'm useless. I felt so bad and I'll work through a lot.
- 5:38But I was at a point I was like I can't do this, and
- 5:41I literally I left. I think I probably left work. I got there
- 5:46five, left at eight and uh yeah, you know, ringing the New
- 5:50Year, just praying for death, happy, happy New y. I hear
- 6:00that story on CNN's New Year's Eve thing. I saw. I saw some
- 6:05sort of clip of John Mayer in a bar with a bunch of cats with
- 6:09Anderson Cooper and and Andy Cohen, But I did I don't remember anyone on
- 6:14New Year's Rock and Eve or CNN's whatever woke New Year's whatever it was,
- 6:20No one said. No one rang in the New Year going like you know
- 6:23how I'd like to start this year dead dead? Yeah, well that songs.
- 6:30But did you did you have the advantageous side of of getting ripped after
- 6:34the flu, like you lost some weight, coughing, strengthen the core,
- 6:39like you look in the mirror like, hey man, you know it's time
- 6:46to take some boudoir photos. You took it a little too far. Yeah.
- 6:57Uh so you're saying you didn't think of Trey and and and fishnets.
- 7:01Now I do and I can't see that. Yeah good, because I want
- 7:04to make sure it's I'm not the only one having to visualize that. But
- 7:08it's but all his lingerie is still in burnt orange. So that's the He
- 7:15may be naughty, but he still has school spirit. That's That's one of
- 7:19those how bad I felt, How bad I felt. I didn't watch I
- 7:26really didn't watch the game on Monday night. Oh it was game. It
- 7:30was good. It was I know they lost, but it was I went
- 7:33and watched it with some friends, and uh, it was very sweet.
- 7:39My buddy is a ut alum and hit his daughter with him. His daughter's
- 7:42at eight or nine years old. And it was forty seven seconds left,
- 7:45and it was it was a rap, and uh we were starting to close
- 7:48out and everything, and she's got her UT hat on and she's got her
- 7:51UT shirt on. She's like, there's still forty seconds. This is a
- 7:55little girl. She goes forty seven seconds left a lot of football, and
- 7:59I was like, yeah, okay, you know, yeah, you could
- 8:03have told me this story and not told me her age, and I would
- 8:05have told you tell me that's a young Longhorn fan without telling me it's a
- 8:09young Longhorn. Tray knows Trey as a long horned fan and a cowboy fan.
- 8:15Is very close with disappointment, and she's so young, she's not there
- 8:20yet, but she'll get there. Yeah, yeah, I remember those idealistic
- 8:22younger years where you know, you thought it can happen, but they're not
- 8:26going to break the dark. But they got the ball back with forty six
- 8:31seconds left to go, and she goes, she goes, Daddy see and
- 8:33then we all sat back down like we were just schooled by a child.
- 8:37And people that had left the bar, and you could see people in the
- 8:41parking like that left. It was a sidecar social people. You could see
- 8:43people like turn turn around in the parking lot and just just park however,
- 8:50just like it just didn't even make sense, like parking at angles and come
- 8:54running back in to watch they did lose, which is you know, but
- 8:58what they did, but with a differently thrown ball or you know, whatever
- 9:03the situation was. I mean, it was it was very close. They
- 9:05had a chance to actually pull that out. They did, and it was
- 9:09like it was like a little Christmas miracle or a New Year's miracle. It's
- 9:13just like there's still time left and you're like, no, there's not.
- 9:15And then like and you she's got the ball back, and we all sat
- 9:18down and just looked at this child like, oh, she'll she'll now see
- 9:20what disappointment looks like. She has forty seven seconds to feel disappointed, which
- 9:28kind of gives me back to uh to uh Scrooge and Bob Cratchit. And
- 9:31she's basically the tiny Tim of this story. Just at the end of at
- 9:35the end of the book, you know, top, you know, tiny
- 9:37Tim's like and God bless us everyone because he got to live because Scrooge,
- 9:41you know, basically, yeah, turned his life around, whereas eventually this
- 9:46little girl's kind of come to understand what real life and disappointment are. So
- 9:50maybe again we're back to maybe Scrooge had a point with you know, kind
- 9:54of limiting expectations so you don't get too hopeful. Yeah see, that's that
- 9:58was the terminology. It wasn't around when that book was written, right,
- 10:01So maybe Scrooge wasn't Scrooge. He was just like, like you're saying,
- 10:05manage the expectations. That actually does speak to the CEO corporate life culture.
- 10:13Thing is the late eighteen hundreds when Dickens, the time period of which,
- 10:20like Dickens is writing about a Christmas Carol, Scrooge is awful. No you
- 10:26can't have more time off. No you can't have PTO. No we're not
- 10:31going to pay for your sick child's surgery to save their life. That was
- 10:37horrific stuff back then, and it stood out. That's why it was such
- 10:39a opinion and popular story, whereas by today's standards, man that's every day
- 10:45at a fortune five hundred. Yeah, he was ahead of his time.
- 10:50When you start, you get ten days of PTO, that's it. You
- 10:54only get five sick days, and no, those don't roll over year to
- 10:58year. And no insurance we're going to give you is not going to save
- 11:01your sick kid. So just you know, still work and give me your
- 11:03whole life. Yeah, and you know what, sometimes you just got to
- 11:07eat soup. Happy New Year. You're in the Treehouse. Visit us online
- 11:26at treehouseonair dot com. Let's talk to Daniel Cook from COOKDFW Roofing and Restoration
- 11:35for your free roof inspection. Give them a call eight three three cook DFW
- 11:39to see some of the excellent work they do. It's cookdfw dot com.
- 11:43Daniel. It's new year, it's twenty twenty four. But you and I
- 11:46are business owners. There's not a whole lot of holiday downtime and ramp up
- 11:50for January? Is there downtime? Downtime? I don't know what that word
- 11:54means. Is that something I have not heard of yet? That sounds like
- 11:58a foreign language almost dan it kind of is. And you know this,
- 12:01You know, you've been a business owner for years now, so the idea
- 12:05of downtime is practically non existent. But that also means you're there for your
- 12:09customers whenever they need you. And you know what, we really do enjoy
- 12:13being there. You know, I never like to hear a bad phone call
- 12:16or somebody's house has a leak or something's going on, but you know,
- 12:18it does make me have a good feeling when we're able to get out there
- 12:20and help somebody, and you see the relief on their face after something's been
- 12:24taken care of that they don't have to worry about that that's it. So
- 12:26yeah, this year, we were out there all the way up until New
- 12:31Year's, New Year's Day, you know, off and on and New Year's
- 12:33Eve morning in the afternoon, and so that's the part of it. So
- 12:39but that's what we do and that's why we enjoy doing it, and we're
- 12:41glad that you're there providing that service for the Treehouse listeners and everyone in North
- 12:46Texas. So you want that free roof inspection, maybe you want to check
- 12:48the roof for any falling gunfire after the new year, give Daniel Cook a
- 12:52call. He'll be happy to go out there and check it for you and
- 12:54plug those holes. The number again eight three three Cook d FW or the
- 12:58website Cook DFW dot com Engine Engine. You're listening to the tree House,
- 13:11visit us online at Treehouseonair dot com. Like Cindy said, welcome back inside
- 13:20the Treehouse. Time leave your warriors outside hang out with us in a brand
- 13:24new year, twenty twenty four and the first episode of the year. And
- 13:31I want to make sure that we mention our find sponsors in this new year,
- 13:35so I don't completely lose out on any habits I've formed in the previous
- 13:37year. So This segment brought to you by our dear friends and sponsors at
- 13:41Cook DFW Roofing and Restoration to get your free roof inspection in case you want
- 13:48to go up. Now you go up and you want to have someone go
- 13:50up there and see if if you're a house got hit by any stray New
- 13:54Year's Eve bullets. Daniel you f tow Roofing and Restoration, well be happy
- 14:00to go up there and check on that. For you to give him a
- 14:01call eight three to three cook DFW or the website cookdfw dot com. And
- 14:07also what I mentioned are sponsors the Dallas Comedy Club, your new home for
- 14:13comedy in Dallas for worth you got comedy five nights a week. It's actually
- 14:16where RAJ was for the New Year's Eve weekend in Dallas at the Dallas Comedy
- 14:22Club. Or ticket info for all the things they have going on at the
- 14:26Dallas Comedy Club. You can just go to Dallas Dash Comedy Club dot com.
- 14:31That's Dallas Dashcomedyclub dot com. Your new home for comedy in Dallas is
- 14:37the Dallas Comedy Club. RAJ off the top of your head, because I'm
- 14:41waiting for their website to load. You know who's at the Dallas Comedy Club
- 14:43tonight weekend. Uh, let me see, I can probably get it faster
- 14:48than your island interweb. That is that is very possible. Yeah. But
- 14:58I did see also that they have what's called Primetime Improv on Friday and Saturday
- 15:03nights at eight thirty. Yeah, they do interactive improv at the Dallas Comedy
- 15:09Club. That's where if you want to go to the improv show, they'll
- 15:13actually hold audience members up on the stage to take part in it. So
- 15:18that's an additional thing they do there at the Dallas Comedy Club. That's very
- 15:22cool and we're checking out. So yeah, yeah, if you go to
- 15:26the Primetime thing, get your tickets because it sells out every time. I
- 15:30didn't know that. I was like, I was walking in one day,
- 15:33I was like, man, this is this crowd is solid for this next
- 15:37show, and I didn't see that the line for the other show, which
- 15:39was almost sold out as well. From the stand up, it was on
- 15:41one side and I'm walking up. I'm like, this looks great, and
- 15:46they're like, no, we're here for the because people do get pulled up
- 15:48on stage and people and that interactive experience is what people seem to dig.
- 15:54I would be mortified to try to wing improv, but people seem to enjoy
- 16:00it. And don't they. They do like improv classes there too, don't
- 16:04they. Yeah? They, I mean they this one I saw, and
- 16:07I thought, anybody that thinks that, you know, hey, my kid's
- 16:11super funny, I would take They have a classes for eleven to seventeen,
- 16:15so you can take your kid in and give you know, see if your
- 16:18kid's the next Chappelle who started at fifteen years old. But I think,
- 16:25if I'm correct, they might not be having shows right now. I know
- 16:30that I know they've got it. The Primetime Improv is happening Friday and Saturday
- 16:33night at eight thirty, so I think that's taking the place of a quote
- 16:37unquote like regular headliner. Yeah, they are remitt for this weekend. Yeah,
- 16:41they are remodeling right now. So it is still open, still doing
- 16:45the stand up, still doing their improv stuff, but it's in the in
- 16:49the side room because they're adding, because they sell out so fast, they're
- 16:53adding another fifty seats to the showroom. So that's awesome. I'm currently under
- 16:59construction. You can still go in the patios of the barsel there, the
- 17:02side room still there with all the uh, all the improvement stand up.
- 17:06So just go check them out. And you didn' give them a call.
- 17:07It's two and four eight one four nineteen eighty. It's two and four eight
- 17:11one four nineteen eighty and even get their schedule for the week. Very cool.
- 17:17So we mentioned how you Trey are kind of limping into the new year
- 17:21because you're still getting over having the flu. Uh. I'll tell you guys
- 17:26more about me and Tara's Christmas trip on Monday, but part of that story
- 17:34will also involve the flu, so I have to look forward to on Monday.
- 17:38And then Raj, last time we talked to you, it was the
- 17:42day after you had just gotten into that wreck, and so I'm curious because
- 17:48you were you were pretty banged up the next day. Yeah, I mean
- 17:52it was by banged up, I mean you had like the bank you had
- 17:55a broken hand, you had a bandage on it and everything. But you
- 17:59were high because as you he was on drugs, which you shouldn't after after
- 18:03a major car wreck. So since I'm a terrible friend and I'm really bad
- 18:11about following up with people about how they're feeling or buying gifts or buying gifts
- 18:17and using the show is the reason why I don't talk to people outside of
- 18:19it, that I didn't really need to work on that. Maybe that's a
- 18:22news resolution for myself. How are you feeling since the car wreck? I
- 18:26was high on life number one because I don't I don't do I don't do
- 18:30the pills. I don't I don't like them. I bust up my hands.
- 18:34You and I are very similar in the sense that we drink enough to
- 18:37where we don't feel the need to supplement other things into the mix. I
- 18:45just I don't know since I was a kid, like why my mom took
- 18:51like stuff for her back and she took no hyperprofen and then stuff to sleep,
- 18:55and then stuff like all that stuff, and I would have watched like
- 18:57her take that stuff, and I'm like, I just don't want to in
- 19:00that habit. So I don't take Advil for headaches like I'll sleep it off.
- 19:04But when I was leaving, when I was leaving the hospital that night,
- 19:07and they bandaged my hand up, which was really nice of them to
- 19:11do. I think it cost six thousand dollars for them to give me an
- 19:14ace bandage. Yay. American Health System. So they were like, you
- 19:22know the doctor wonderful, Uh doctor Fletcher. She said, uh, you
- 19:26know, the first twenty four to forty eight hours, you're going to start
- 19:27to experience muscle soreness and put and you might find that, you know,
- 19:32something else is broken. So keep the hand. You know where it is.
- 19:36Next day, Uh yeah, bandaged up hands, saw you guys.
- 19:38Uh. Felt felt fine, was walking around, went and walk my dogs.
- 19:41Had to again I couldn't use my left hand, but I'm walking my
- 19:45dogs and did my stuff. Went to the grocery store and went watched some
- 19:48wrestling. Uh and uh up in Oklahoma City. And I'm coming back the
- 19:53next day and I'm like, forty eight hours, I'm like, you know
- 19:56what, she was right, A little stiffness in knee, a little soreness
- 20:00in my neck, but that's about it. And I was like, you
- 20:03know what if that's what if that's the best the worst it's going to be,
- 20:07then so be it. Seventy two hours later, however, wildly different
- 20:11story. I woke up out of your leg. I felt like it.
- 20:18It felt like it. I woke up and I don't curse anybody, you
- 20:22know, the lady ran the red light, and you know, she admitted
- 20:23to it, and I stood up and the pain in my knee and my
- 20:30ankle and my arm. I was like, I hope this bitch dies of
- 20:34toenail cancer. Like, oh, like, lady, Yeah, I hope
- 20:41her toenails appendix bursts and she can't, you know, like I'm trying to
- 20:45wish things that could never possibly actually happen. But so this is actually a
- 20:51really interesting like cross section of the show because you say, Raj, that
- 20:55you don't like to, you know, swear someone like that. Yeah,
- 21:00No, Trey is the exact opposite. He will dog cush you at the
- 21:06drop of it, especially especially if it's warranted. Like if this same situation
- 21:11happened where this lady ran into Tray despite any sort of of pain or injuries,
- 21:17Tray would have fallen out of his vehicle and started throwing sea bombs so
- 21:22much so you would have thought it was desert storm. You though, Raj,
- 21:26you want nothing to do with that. It's it's you know, you're
- 21:30very you're very you're very centered, and and Nirvana esqud about it. Me.
- 21:34Yah, I'm kind of in the middle. I will swear, I
- 21:37will swear at you. Bad's justified enough otherwise, but I'm working on it.
- 21:42So that's me in the middle. I'm trying not to do that.
- 21:45I'm trying to get closer to you, Raj. Meanwhile, Trey has basically
- 21:49embraced his darkness, and why why wouldn't you. It's very cathartic when you
- 21:59know when someone says something stupid or does something stupid to say that's really fucking
- 22:04stupid. And he's wearing like he's got the black shirt. I'm like,
- 22:10as he's saying this, like I can feel his innersith lord coming out.
- 22:15Yeah, the only thing we're missing is the lightning shooting out of his fingertips.
- 22:18But maybe that's because we don't see his hands currently. That's not a
- 22:25ring light then that's but like my first thoughts, no go ahead, no,
- 22:33no go ahead. My first thought was I'm just waiting for him to
- 22:37be like, and we have to go to break. You're at the Treehouse.
- 22:45That's beauty of the force, lightning coming out of your fingers. His
- 22:48trade doesn't have to hit the actual button with his finger. You're in the
- 23:06Treehouse. Visit us online at Treehouse on air dot com. It's a new
- 23:15year. But let's get a familiar face and voice into the treehouse. Now
- 23:19it's Jacqueline from Brooks Plumbing. Give them a call for Indy and all of
- 23:22those plumbing once and needs two, one, four, three, six,
- 23:25eight, thirty eight, thirty eight and Jacqueline. Since it is a new
- 23:27year, I'm curious, how was the new year started for you and for
- 23:30Brooks Plumbing? I mean smooth sailing. We had a record breaking year.
- 23:36I'm gonna blame you for that, so I will take all that. I
- 23:38will take all that smoke. Yeah, I intend on having another record breaking
- 23:44year. And I want to ask you if you've seen the meme, and
- 23:48it's all verbal, it's all just words, and it just says new year,
- 23:51knew me, better ingredients, better pizza, Papa John's. I have
- 23:56not seen that, but I think that fits a lot of people's resid But
- 24:02I have lost weight already, so the goal is to lose weight. So
- 24:03I'm getting tremmor and the boys are getting heavier because we're feeding them. Well,
- 24:10oh that's awesome. Well you know what, in that case, good
- 24:11for you. Your new year personally is already off to a good start.
- 24:15It sounds like it's already off to a great start for Brooks Plumbing me.
- 24:18However, any sort of resolution stuff. I've extended my holiday break to continue
- 24:23through the weekend. So to me, the first day of the New Year
- 24:27really isn't going to start until Monday, as opposed to what it actually was,
- 24:30which was last Monday, the first I don't think that count. But
- 24:33you have an excuse. You're on island time. You live in a whole
- 24:37different world, so you get to make your own rules. That is true,
- 24:41and island time is a very real thing. We're still waiting on,
- 24:45ironically enough, a plumber on Saint Thomas to give us a call back to
- 24:49help our tenants with a propane issue. And that's been going on for like
- 24:53three days. So what I'm getting at is, if you want a banger
- 24:57of a twenty twenty four, than you need to open up a Brooks Plumbing
- 25:02branch here on the Islands, because you will absolutely slay it. Well,
- 25:06you can fly Oliver and I out. He'll do the work and I'll just
- 25:08quality assurance. I'll be the QA person on the site. I think that
- 25:14sounds like a wonderful plan. All right, say we've already got new resolutions
- 25:17and objectives for the new year. And if you have any plumbing wants and
- 25:21needs, obviously, Jacqueline will go to the ends of the earth for you
- 25:23like she does for me, So give her entertain at Brooks Plumbing a call
- 25:26two one, four, three six eight thirty eight thirty eight and Brooks Plumbing

- 26:33them a call for any and all of those plumbing wants and needs. No
- 26:37job too big, no job too small. I know it's trite to say
- 26:40it, but it actually is true, especially when it comes to plumbing.
- 26:42Brooks Plumbing will make sure you and your pipes are taken care of. Give
- 26:47them a call two one, four, three six eight thirty eight, thirty
- 26:49eight or the website Brooks Plumbing Texas dot com. I am not above a
- 26:53pipe plumbing pun or a literation for that. I do like it. I
- 27:00appreciate it very much. It makes Monday. So since this is the first
- 27:06Friday episode of the new year, I think it's important that we include at
- 27:11least a couple of the things that people are accustomed to hearing on Friday episodes.
- 27:17And I am, of course talking about birthdays. We have plenty of
- 27:21other stuff to catch you up on that happened over the holidays, things that
- 27:25happen to us that be covering that on Monday and next week as well,
- 27:30and just moving forward in general. But you know, I didn't look up
- 27:34birthdays for nothing. So here we go. Today is Friday, January fifth,
- 27:45twenty twenty four. It is time to start getting used to changing that
- 27:49three to a four. My timeframe on that is usually about six months,
- 27:55So sometime in June I'll finally get accustomed to riding twenty twenty four. But
- 28:00until then, it's gonna be a lot of scratching out threes and putting fours
- 28:03on there. But birthdays Today, the first of the new year. Here
- 28:07in the Treouse Suki Waterhouse, she turns thirty two today. She plays Karen
- 28:12Circo on Daisy Jones and the Six. She's also the Queen's sister Cicily of
- 28:18York on Stars's The White Princess. And that just reminds me that there seemed
- 28:23to be way too many fantasy shows and movies to keep track of these days.
- 28:27And I mean, you had the first, you know, Lord of
- 28:32the Rings movies, and then they went and did the Hobbit movies very shortly
- 28:37after that. Then you got Game of Thrones, and then I feel like
- 28:44there's oh, and then Amazon had spent the most money on a television show
- 28:47ever for I think it was a pre Hobbit type thing or a Pregame of
- 28:53Thrones type thing. This is what I mean. It's so saturated. Now
- 28:57throw in all the new Zelda video games. I can't keep up. Amazon
- 29:02did The Ring of Power, which was a kind of prequel to The Hobbit
- 29:04and Lord of the Rings, and HBO did what is it Dragging Something,
- 29:11which was the the prequel to Game of Thrones. Yeah, right, and
- 29:15you've also had three Star Wars movies come out since then. Yeah, fantasy
- 29:22stuff is extremely saturated and it's weird, but I go ahead. Drey Rebel
- 29:27Moon on Netflix the Zack Snyder movie. Yeah, excellent movie. Interesting.
- 29:34I can't do the fantasy thing, especially the Game of Thrones thing. Like
- 29:38one of my best friends a little person, and and Peter de Engliind is
- 29:41on that show where he's like the bad King and I'm like, really,
- 29:44like, my friend can't get anything off the top shelf. How are you
- 29:47ruling an entire people like I can't watch this show. It'll make sense.
- 29:52It does not trust me. It does actually watch the show. When you
- 29:56watch Game of Thrones. It's part of the story obviously that he's not a
- 30:00quote unquote normal sized individual, but that's something that his character deals with.
- 30:07It's part of, you know, what he said to deal with his entire
- 30:10life, and because of that people, you know, they underestimate him,
- 30:14and he still, you know, rises legitimately one of my best friends is
- 30:17a little person, and if I move his coke too far away, he's
- 30:19screwed. As far as getting is first quenched. I know what. I've
- 30:23been reading a lot of self help books recently, and that says more about
- 30:26you than it does about him. I do it all the time. In
- 30:33that case, it says a lot about you. I'm entertained, he's entertained.
- 30:38Come on, It's all fun and games until he bites your knee off.
- 30:48So anyway, an actress from one of those fantasy shows is celebrating your
- 30:52birthday today, sort of a fantasy show from Laguna Beach and the Hills on
- 30:56MTV. Kristin Cavalari is thirty seven. She was also married for a short
- 31:02while to former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler, and he's still unimpressed by it.
- 31:07Dead Mass is forty three today. January Jones, who I best know as
- 31:14Betty Draper on mad Men, she's forty six today. She was also Emma
- 31:18Frost in X Men First Class, and she was also on Last Man on
- 31:23Earth for a while. Although I didn't see that, so I'm not sure.
- 31:26Bradley Cooper probably one of the greatest actors of his generation. I would
- 31:33say he is forty nine today. He's been in some amazing films. A
- 31:40Star is Born, American Sniper. He was superb as Phil in the Hangover
- 31:45movies, and he was also absolutely wonderful as Rocket in the Guardians of the
- 31:52Galaxy slash Avengers movies. Loved him in that, and it didn't even sound
- 31:56like him in those Some people didn't even realize it was him for a while.
- 32:01So I say that he's a really fine actor Silver Linings Playbook. But
- 32:05then I saw a photo once and I see it every once in a while
- 32:07online where he did a stage play of the Elephant Man, and instead of
- 32:15you can look this up as I'm telling you guys this, you can do
- 32:16Bradley Cooper Elephant Man and click image. Instead of him going through prosthetics or
- 32:23stage makeup, whatever the case is, to make him look super disfigured as
- 32:28the Elephant Man is supposed to be in the story, he instead decides to
- 32:34go crazy physical acting and physically turn his body in ways to make himself appear
- 32:40deformed, when in reality to me, it just looks like Bradley Cooper making
- 32:45fun of very unpolitically correct, retarded person the way kids did when we were
- 32:52all kindergarteners. Because of that, it's one of those things I can't unsee.
- 32:59So I see Bradley Cooper all these things, and he's supposed to be
- 33:00really good looking, but I inevitably think of him chucking his arm into the
- 33:05side and their face to the side and just looking really really bad. Yeah,
- 33:10that's not cool, you know what I mean. The only thing he's
- 33:17missing, the only thing he's missing. And maybe he did it during the
- 33:21play. I don't know. I've only seen the still image is doing the
- 33:23handover the chest thing. That again is completely deplorable. Yeah, you know
- 33:29what was commonplace, you know, thirty years ago. Yeah, that's like,
- 33:34that's just not you know, that's when you know you're a star.
- 33:39When the director's like, shull, we told him that this is not cool,
- 33:43and I'm like, that's fucking Bradley Cooper exactly. You're doing great up
- 33:46there, doing great, great to curb totally. Yeah, you don't like
- 33:52hands at all. Yeah, we're not selling tickets to handicap people, are
- 33:55we? Because this is There's gonna be a lot of refor that's okay.
- 34:01He dates supermodels, he can do it, that's fine, Yeah, but
- 34:05they don't. So Happy birthday to Bradley Cooper. He is forty nine today.
- 34:15Speaking of odd looking Marilyn Manson is fifty five and Vinnie Jones speaking of
- 34:22X Men movies. He played Juggernaut and X Men. The last stand he
- 34:25was also in was at Dead point two as a Juggernaut. He's fifty nine
- 34:30today. Clancy Brown sixty five. Character actor for many many years. He's
- 34:38the bad guy in the Highlander movie, the very first one, the Kreeger
- 34:42whatever it was. He was also the really awful prison guard in the Shawshank
- 34:46Redemption and a number of other things. Oh yeah, yeah. So he
- 34:50is sixty five today. And even though Trey hasn't had a drop of alcohol
- 34:54in over seven years, and he still appreciates a fine, fine bartender,
- 35:00not only because he has won some nights working in the service industry to slave
- 35:06away to keep this podcast on the air. Think you Tray, one of
- 35:12the finest bartenders ever is celebrating a birthday today, and I, of course
- 35:16mean the one and only Ted Lange from the love Boat. Yeah, nice,
- 35:24that's a yeah, that's that's cool. Yeah. What was the characters
- 35:30Isaac Isaac, that's right, yeah, or as most white people referred to
- 35:35me, you know, the black bartender on the love boat. That's what's
- 35:39Vinnie Jones, Well, Vinni Jones was a different one. Yeah. Yeah,
- 35:45Vinnie Jones is fifty nine Juggernaut. But then Ted Lane ted l seventy
- 35:52six today, good for him. But that's that's another actually classic example of
- 35:58the not so subtle racism of how when you go back and look at things
- 36:00in their time period. Yeah, because you guys know, I'm well on
- 36:05record as saying and same time period, the eighties, there was only one
- 36:07black guy in Top Gun and what was his call sign? Sundown? Yeah,
- 36:13and when it came time, like if you notice, he was the
- 36:16only one available to fly with Maverick when Goose died, as if he was
- 36:22just like what was he doing? He was just hanging out waiting for someone
- 36:24to die and then get called up. He was there the whole time she
- 36:29saw him in that first scene when they all get top nomb but then he's
- 36:30just not doing anything. So a white guy had to die for him to
- 36:34get in the in the cockpit even though it was still in the back seat.
- 36:37Similarly, on love Boat, there's all these professions on the ship that
- 36:43the black actor could have been cast in. Yeah, it wasn't the captain.
- 36:47Now, it wasn't. It wasn't as all this would have been funny.
- 36:51It wasn't the captain's daughter. It wasn't the entertainment. You want to
- 36:57be challenged as an actor. There you go, and it wasn't. It
- 37:01wasn't the ship's doctor. Instead, what role did the black guy play in
- 37:06the love boat service industry? He's serving all the drinks. He's the bartender.
- 37:09Yeah, he's the server. Yeah, that's exactly. I mean,
- 37:13it's It wasn't just the eighties, you guys, do remember us a pesky
- 37:17little show called a Er. I don't know if you remember that show.
- 37:21One of the biggest shows of the nineties. No Indian doctor for ten years,
- 37:27all white doctors. See their and lies the double edged sword that Hollywood
- 37:31has to deal with because on one hand, like in the nineties, it
- 37:36was a huge complaint also on NBC that Friends had the Friends had no dark
- 37:39people of colored friends. It was all white people, right, They did
- 37:43so er was like, well, if we put an Indian doctor in the
- 37:47show, is that just playing into a stereotype or are we actually dealing with
- 37:52reality. So they were kind of screwed either way. Had they started with
- 37:55an Indian doctor or four of them in the er people said, that's race.
- 38:00It's that you're playing into stereotypes. But then not having one also Jerseys.
- 38:06Yeah, and then so it used to be musty TV. I don't
- 38:07remember that. The NBC was musty TV. And then they got sued for
- 38:13not having people of color on the show on their shows, and so this
- 38:17was their middle finger to the people that were suing them. Is uh,
- 38:23they changed the slogan to more colorful. That's what NBC was known as.
- 38:30So really, I don't remember that slogan musty TV. Musty TV's more colorful.
- 38:35Why didn't they just change it to we got sued, We'll get some
- 38:39weight if you remember that. Gotta love Holly comment are Indians and podcastings.
- 39:07I want to make sure we're not falling into any stereotypes in the treehouse.
- 39:13There's a million people in India. I'm sure there's one or two of them
- 39:15out there. I just like that slogan NBC, we're working on it.
- 39:23Well, here are the treehouse. We've got ours, so no more searching
- 39:30for us. Thanks for hanging out with us on the first episode of the
- 39:36New Year. I hope it was plenty of stupid for you. I feel
- 39:37good and stupid, especially now. Be sure to check out what's in store
- 39:42the rest of the year and coming up on Monday inside the Treehouse. We
- 39:46will see you then, NBC, wasn't the Cosby's enough Slippery slow Man?
- 40:07Well done. They're like five of them.
