- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hey my friend, welcome to the Daily Writer, where we help writers become authors of their own lives.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: Well, I did something fun a couple of days ago, and that is I celebrated my birthday.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Now, my wife and my son shared some really meaningful gifts with me, some things I really, really loved, but I also confess that I bought a little something for myself.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: And thanks to eBay, I was able to get a replica of the double-headed 1922 silver dollar that Harvey Dent carries with him in the greatest comic book movie of all time.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: And of course, I'm talking about The Dark Knight.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: Now, early in the movie, Harvey Dent is known as Gotham's White Knight.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: He is the DA who successfully brings down a huge ring of criminals, and he carries that two-headed coin as a sign that he makes his own luck.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: And of course, the cool thing about a two-headed coin is that whenever you flip it, it always lands head up.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: So in essence, you can never lose.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: I think that's a great analogy for the writing life because literally you can never lose.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: Now, why do I say that?
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: Because you can make your own luck.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: You have the power to make things happen in your favor, no matter what you write, what services you offer, or where you are in your author journey.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: And today I want to share three simple ways to help you make your own luck every single day.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: Number one, have a positive attitude every day.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: Now, of course, this is always the place to start because it's almost impossible to bring about positive results with a negative attitude.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: I just assume that things are going to work out in my favor one way or another.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: That's one of the ways that I try to have a positive attitude.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: But the reality is that even if things don't go according to plan or if you're disappointed by some result, there's always something you can learn from that experience, which in my book is a huge win.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: I highly recommend checking out Earl Nightingale's classic book, Lead the Field, to help you build a positive attitude.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: Number two, serve people every day.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: I believe that we're not put on this earth just for our own benefit.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: We're here to add value to people and to fulfill our purpose.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: In other words, we're here to serve.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: Or as Bob Dylan's saying, you gotta serve somebody.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: I think it's a privilege to serve people with our writing, our services, or whatever else it is that we do in life.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: Because when you approach people with an attitude of service, good things will inevitably happen.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: Number three, write every day.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: Now you knew I was going to say this, right?
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: So this podcast is obviously called the Daily Writer, and it has a double meaning because it's a daily podcast, but I also call it this because I want to challenge you to write every single day.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: When you write every day, you get better as a writer a lot faster.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: For example, writing this email every day helps me to be a better writer.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: Daily writing also helps you build a habit that pays off huge dividends in a lot of different ways.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: And when you publish what you write in the form of blog posts, podcast, a daily email, or social media, you can build incredible momentum.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: Even if you just write for 15 minutes a day, that's nearly two hours of writing per week, and it really does add up over time.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: Well, the bottom line here, my friend, is that you don't need a two-headed coin to make your own luck.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: You just need a few simple, repeatable habits that'll bring great results into your life.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: I explore more than a couple dozen simple ideas for success in my book on creativity, which is called The Artist Suitcase 26 Essentials for the Creative Journey.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: It's a really fun quick read, and it's honestly the perfect book for these last few weeks before summer starts drawing to a close.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: You can check it out in the link in the show notes.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: Thanks for listening.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: Keep writing, keep showing up, and I'll see you tomorrow.
