- 0:06Hello, what's your least favorite scary movie?
- 0:11Take the car, go to Moms, kill Phil, grab Liz, go to the
- 0:15Winchester, have a nice gold pie and wait for this all to blow
- 0:18over. Hello, hello, hello, Welcome to
- 0:22What's Your Least Favorite Scary Movie?
- 0:24The podcast where we talk about the good, the bad, the ugly and
- 0:27the absurd and all of our favorites.
- 0:29And the least favorite? Scary movies.
- 0:30Because we believe every horror movie rifely has its fan base.
- 0:33Even if we don't always. Get it?
- 0:34My name is Travis, my name is Jesse and welcome everybody.
- 0:37We are talking about Shaun of the Dead today.
- 0:41So I hope you guys are prepared for that.
- 0:44I wasn't prepared for your intro there.
- 0:46I, I had a feeling you were going to say that.
- 0:48I really wanted to chime in with a sorry Phillip.
- 0:54Too late though. It's it's done.
- 0:55It's a done deal. We've never done a second take
- 0:58of the opening. Ever.
- 0:59Never. Fun fact refused to.
- 1:01All right, so yeah, we're talking about Shaun of the Dead
- 1:03people. So I got a fun one in store for
- 1:06you guys today. The Movie.
- 1:07Was just called Shaun of the Dead, not Shaun of the Dead
- 1:09people. Shaun of the Dead for you
- 1:11people. Well, that's even more often.
- 1:14Yeah, that's not good. OK, so before we get into this
- 1:19one, Jesse, do you have anything you need to announce?
- 1:22No, other than thanks again to all of our patrons because we
- 1:28made our donation to the Trevor Project and we did match it with
- 1:30our own. Funds we did it officially went
- 1:32through this morning whenever day of recording.
- 1:36So yeah, thank you guys for doing that.
- 1:38It was a bigger donation this year than last year.
- 1:40Yes, it's very exciting. Yeah, it is really cool.
- 1:42I really appreciate all of you guys doing that and it's really
- 1:45cool thing. So thank you guys so much.
- 1:48I have our poll results from last week's episode, which was
- 1:53on the Purge, and we just asked everybody what you would want to
- 1:58do during the Purge. So it's between mess with random
- 2:02people, fuck shit up, get your revenge, or still that thing you
- 2:07always wanted. So on Twitter, 13% would mess
- 2:11with random people, 25% would get their revenge, 62% would
- 2:17steal that thing that they want and Instagram 12% fuck shit up,
- 2:2325% get your revenge and 62% still that thing you really
- 2:27wanted. So wow, it's kind of weird that
- 2:30it's almost the same distribution.
- 2:32It's just Twitter people want to mess with random people and
- 2:36Instagram people want to fuck shit up and that's the
- 2:39difference right there. We talked about it ourselves
- 2:42though. We we both said.
- 2:44Yeah, I think we always. Yeah, we, we want to like, yeah,
- 2:46like go get the thing that you want, like a pool or a console
- 2:50or quotes or whatever, you know, So, yeah.
- 2:54I'm going to get a lot of the really expensive mascara I like
- 2:59but don't like to buy all the time, so I'll just like stock up
- 3:02on it. I mean, yeah.
- 3:04I mean, you could do better. You could do better than.
- 3:07That OK, but still it's $30.00 for a tube of that mascara.
- 3:10I know, but it's Purge night, man, you got to go all out, OK?
- 3:13I'm just saying that's a stop along the way.
- 3:17Fair, fair. All right, so that's it.
- 3:21OK, OK, let's talk about Shaun of the Dead.
- 3:23OK, so Shaun of the Dead originally released March 24th.
- 3:28Oh excuse me, 29 2004 had it that wide.
- 3:32Release September 24th, 2004. OK, we watched it on our DVD.
- 3:38If you want to watch it, you also have to have it on your DVD
- 3:42because it is not available to stream.
- 3:44Or you can rent it. You can rent it from Amazon,
- 3:46Apple or YouTube or Fandango at home for like $4.
- 3:50Or prime. Or prime.
- 3:52Yeah, Prime's always an option to all of the same ones that
- 3:54always have the rent options. However, if you do like we did
- 3:59and go to Half Price Books and find a copy of the DVD, you
- 4:02might find yourself with one of our favorite things, a fun menu.
- 4:07Oh yeah. And this has like the the menu
- 4:10on this one. It's like one of those arcade
- 4:13shooters. So it's like House of the Dead
- 4:15or something like that. I think that's what it was.
- 4:17No clue. That's like the.
- 4:19I think that's the game. That's the game that I used to
- 4:21play all the time in the arcade. So it's a zombie game.
- 4:23Yeah. So written by Simon Pegg and
- 4:26Edgar Wright. Directed by Edgar Wright.
- 4:29Edgar Wright. I am.
- 4:30I am. Music by Dan Mudford and Pete
- 4:33Woodhead and special effects by Paul Dunn.
- 4:36OK Starring Simon Pegg as Sean, Nick Frost as Ed, Kay Ashfield
- 4:43as Liz, Lucy Davis as Diane, Dylan Morgan as Daffs Bill Nye.
- 4:49Not the science guy. Bill Nye, the actor.
- 4:53Guy the actor, Guy as Phillip and Penelope Wilton as Barbara.
- 4:58What if it was Bill Nye the science guy, though?
- 5:00And you're just like watching this.
- 5:02And you're like, Bill, Bill, Bill.
- 5:03Bill, Bill, bill, Bill, that's all.
- 5:07I mean, they're like, I, I want it.
- 5:10I just, you know, like I don't know if that would that would
- 5:13make for a better movie or if it would make for a way movie.
- 5:17I mean, we do have Bilbo Baggins make a brief appearance as well.
- 5:24Shit, he has been. I think that's more funny
- 5:27because he's like, he's the Jim Halpert of the Office one, and
- 5:30that the one. Yeah, she's the pan.
- 5:33The original. Pan.
- 5:34I love that scene, how they did that.
- 5:36Yeah, it's a good mirror bizarro version.
- 5:38All right, time for our favorite game on the show budget.
- 5:42Or budget. Come on Jessie, you didn't give
- 5:45me enough of a chance to catch up.
- 5:47Excuse. Me.
- 5:48I'm sorry, I was I'm. Not I'm not moving at winding
- 5:50speed over here. I'm still.
- 5:51Thinking about Martin Freeman. That's a problem.
- 5:56We can't have that be an ongoing issue this episode.
- 6:01OK, well, it's time for you to guess.
- 6:04So stop thinking about Martin. OK, I'm trying to think
- 6:10accurate. Was very young during this.
- 6:13Second movie. Yeah.
- 6:14So I don't know how incredibly established he was, like how
- 6:19much of A budget they gave him. And I do know just from
- 6:23listening to you watch the extras that they wanted to have
- 6:28an exploding Jaguar and eventually it turned into them
- 6:33just leaving Phil locked in there.
- 6:36I feel like that played out better.
- 6:37In the long run, yes, I do like that that better.
- 6:41So I think I'm going to go bug Ted.
- 6:44OK, you are correct £4 million. Remember, this is British.
- 6:51British. Whole other currency over there.
- 6:54So yeah. 4,000,000 lbs Opening box office 3.3 million Worldwide
- 7:00Gross 38 million Hell yeah. So it did pretty well.
- 7:04IMDb 7.8. Hell.
- 7:07Yeah, now that's a really, really good.
- 7:10And I got to say, man, the three movies that I pulled as
- 7:13comparisons are all very highly rated also.
- 7:16Oh wow, what was your theme? Well this was like the big
- 7:21zombie era, so I've got 3 zombie movies here.
- 7:25Uninspired, but we'll go with it.
- 7:27I'm assuming one of them is Dawn of the Dead.
- 7:30You're correct. Yeah, Dude, don't sound so
- 7:33disappointed. Come on, we're not all going to
- 7:36go for, like, weird shit every single time.
- 7:39Sometimes you got to be very much like, well, this is a
- 7:41zombie movie with his three other zombie movies.
- 7:44How else? That's a better comparison, OK.
- 7:47Stacking it up against its actual competition, OK.
- 7:49And stacking him up against another comic book nerd.
- 7:53Because that Dawn of the Dead is Zack Snyder.
- 7:55That's true. Yeah, so.
- 7:57That is a fair 1:00 to 1:00. That is all right.
- 8:00So Dawn of the Dead that released March 19th, 2004 $26
- 8:06million Budget $102 million Gross 7.3 IMDb score.
- 8:13And if you all want to hear us talk about that maybe more in
- 8:16depth, guess what, we've done it.
- 8:18Just just look for it. Maybe a year ago.
- 8:22No, that was like 21, OK or 22, I don't know.
- 8:29We were here. Is this podcast still going?
- 8:32Like it's so weird, man. Like we've been doing it for so
- 8:35long and I just, it doesn't feel like it.
- 8:36Same thing with this movie. This movie is technically 20
- 8:39years old. Isn't that insane?
- 8:42That's so fucking crazy. Yeah.
- 8:44I can't imagine this being 20 years ago because I just
- 8:46remember watching this with my friends back then.
- 8:48God damn it, we're getting old. It's yeah.
- 8:51Sucks. Here in Seanville, like I'm 29
- 8:54years old. I was like, no, you're a grown
- 8:56up. You can't be younger than us.
- 8:58He looks old. He will.
- 9:00He does not look 29. He looks maybe 39.
- 9:04He's always looked about 39. Yeah, and I'm not saying he
- 9:07looks old, old. I'm just saying he doesn't look
- 9:0929. But then again, there's some
- 9:10people like that out there. That's a thing.
- 9:12It happens. That's a thing.
- 9:14OK, Second movie, Resident Evil Apocalypse.
- 9:19OK, Yeah, I'm getting some more zombie stuff.
- 9:22So that released September 10th, 2004.
- 9:26OK Budget of $45 million. Worldwide gross $129 million.
- 9:34These are big movies, apparently.
- 9:35I didn't really realize that they went this big this way.
- 9:38IMDb score is 6.1 out of 10. OK, that's still pretty good.
- 9:42Yeah. All THINGS considered.
- 9:44The being horror. Score.
- 9:45Yeah. In the final movie, this will be
- 9:48one that some of our budget to your bubbies might be familiar
- 9:52with because we talked about it on last month's Patreon episode.
- 9:58It was an It was an answer in one of our horror movie Jeopardy
- 10:02questions. The Conjuring.
- 10:04No, it went back in time and released again in 2004 just to
- 10:10fuck with us. I wouldn't be surprised, but no,
- 10:14it is SARS wars. Oh my God, yeah, the the answer
- 10:20that I thought of as a joke. And then, yeah.
- 10:23It ended up actually. Being real.
- 10:25Yeah, it's like a Thai, maybe Korean.
- 10:28It's an Asian horror movie. I.
- 10:30Think it was Thai. Yeah, I think that's what I
- 10:32remember too that released December 16th, 2004.
- 10:37Didn't get the budget, but the worldwide gross was 121
- 10:40thousand. OK, IMDb 5.8.
- 10:44So not terrible. Still pretty good.
- 10:47All right, I've got a couple of tag lines here.
- 10:50OK, the one on the poster, a romantic comedy with zombies.
- 10:57I mean not entirely wrong. No.
- 11:01And this is one of the things that I kind of gathered from
- 11:05reading about this movie and also seeing the special features
- 11:08where they had their whole like, flip book where they wrote out
- 11:11like what they wanted the movie to be before it even had a
- 11:14script. They really wanted it to be like
- 11:16a ROM com basically. Yeah.
- 11:19So like, I guess they I don't necessarily get the romantic
- 11:23part from this movie more than any of the other genres like
- 11:27comedy and horror. But yeah, I don't know.
- 11:30Next one. It's just one of those days when
- 11:33you're feeling a little dead. It's.
- 11:35Just one of those days where you don't want to wake up.
- 11:38Everything is facts. Everybody sucks.
- 11:41Do you think Fred Durst started reading that?
- 11:43He's like, Oh my God. He's like, I have an idea, flips
- 11:47his hat around backwards. Wait.
- 11:48Which came first because like, it could have been like they
- 11:51fucking stole my thing. Yeah, no Limp Bizkit,
- 11:54unfortunately. I have to say Limp Bizkit came
- 11:56first. I'm sure it did, yeah.
- 11:59Next up, buy milk ring mum, dodge zombies.
- 12:05It's just like that's how if you needed to sum this movie up in 6
- 12:10words, essentially. I guess, but we don't ever
- 12:14really talk about buying milk and he doesn't actually like
- 12:18casually call his mom, he just calls to make sure she's at the
- 12:21house. That's true, yeah.
- 12:23So. Not very accurate.
- 12:25Yeah. All right.
- 12:26Ever felt you were surrounded by zombies?
- 12:30Not especially now. What's the tagline?
- 12:35Nah, I wish we had a soundboard on here.
- 12:39All right. Final one.
- 12:41In a time of crisis, a hero must rise from his sofa.
- 12:45Nice, it's. Not too bad.
- 12:49OK, I've got fun facts. Yay.
- 12:52So this movie was inspired by an episode of Simon Pegg and Edgar
- 12:59Wright's sitcom that they were doing called Space.
- 13:02So in the episode Simon Pegg's character who's Nate's a zombie
- 13:08apocalypse while he is high on amphetamines after playing
- 13:11Resident Evil 2. OK.
- 13:15So that is how that started it. Makes no sense.
- 13:21So they actually conceived the actual idea for actually doing
- 13:24the movie seriously back in 19. They conceived the movie in 1999
- 13:31for real and well fuck man, you just threw me off my game.
- 13:38Sorry, you said actually three times in the span of about 10
- 13:41seconds. OK, so they pitched it to Film 4
- 13:46which is a studio, and Film 4 picked it up.
- 13:50Film 4 ended up having to drop it though, because they had to
- 13:53scale back their production budget.
- 13:56So Edgar Wright was doing TV gigs at the time, you know, he
- 13:59had that show with Sean, not Sean Simon Pegg, and he refused
- 14:04to do any more of those gigs until they got this movie off
- 14:07the ground. So that was like 5 years where
- 14:11they did that before this thing released.
- 14:13And he ended up actually racking up quite a bit of debt in the
- 14:16process because he's not getting really many gigs in the process,
- 14:20so he's not making much money. A lot of studios actually passed
- 14:24on it because they didn't understand the tone that they
- 14:26were going for. They didn't think it was funny,
- 14:29they didn't think it was scary. But it eventually did get picked
- 14:33up, obviously, and they were able to make it.
- 14:37They wrote the screenplay in eight weeks.
- 14:40The films that were major inspirations were of course,
- 14:44Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Raising Arizona.
- 14:48Not familiar with that movie? We.
- 14:50Do own it though. No, you're thinking of just
- 14:53Arizona. This is an 80s movie.
- 14:55The movie you're thinking of is a Danny McBride movie, which
- 14:57definitely did not come out before 2000.
- 15:00Four. Yeah, but probably actually.
- 15:02They're not gonna do a conjuring.
- 15:03They're not gonna go back in time just to fuck with us.
- 15:06They. Might they might.
- 15:07It is Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright, after all.
- 15:11They could if they were this next movie that was an
- 15:14inspiration. Back to the Future.
- 15:18Also Brain Dead and the Birds OK were inspirations.
- 15:23Mudford and Woodhead actually imitated Goblin and Fabio
- 15:28Frizzi. Frizzi for their soundtrack.
- 15:33He did. Fabio did the soundtrack for
- 15:36Zombie Two. Yeah, he he worked with Fulchi.
- 15:39Yeah, and Goblin, of course. They actually they did Dawn of
- 15:41the Dead, but they've done like a shit ton of other Italian
- 15:44movie. We've we've talked a lot about
- 15:46Goblin on the show. I'm sure you all are familiar at
- 15:49this point. So, and they actually use
- 15:52musical cues from Dawn of the Dead in the movie too.
- 15:56And right. Actually, while he was editing
- 15:58the movie, he put Goblin music in there as a temp track just to
- 16:04kind of, you know, use it as like a way of editing and trying
- 16:07to get things to seem right. And he ended up liking it so
- 16:10much they actually got clearance to use it.
- 16:13So we do get a little bit of Goblin in this movie.
- 16:15Apparently this movie is the first of the Cornetto trilogy.
- 16:19So that's a trilogy of films that Aggar Wright and Simon Pegg
- 16:22and Nick Frosted. That's this movie, Hot Fuzz, and
- 16:28this is the end of the world or the end of the world, something
- 16:31like that. I.
- 16:32Don't know, I've only ever seen this in Hot Fuzz.
- 16:34Yeah, I've not seen the third one, but basically in the
- 16:37Cornetto trilogy they each reference a different flavor of
- 16:41Cornetto ice cream. So in this movie, The flavor
- 16:45references strawberry due to the gory and violent nature of the
- 16:48movie. Oh, OK, they're meaningful.
- 16:52Yeah, they have, I guess, some purpose between, like, which
- 16:55flavor they choose. And finally, George A Romero was
- 17:00so impressed by Pagan Wright that he asked them to cameo as
- 17:04zombies in his movie Land of the Dead, which came out in 2005.
- 17:10Yeah, I think that that's really cool that they actually got.
- 17:13They got the nod from the guy. Yeah, right there.
- 17:16If you're going to do a zombie movie, that's the approval you
- 17:18want. Exactly.
- 17:19That's especially since apparently he hates everybody
- 17:22doing variations of those movies.
- 17:25From what I heard, he he's not really a big fan, but yeah, he
- 17:30he pretty much made exclusively those movies for the rest of his
- 17:33life. So who's he to talk?
- 17:35I mean, I guess he is the guy that created them.
- 17:37So I. Mean he's the guy to talk, yeah.
- 17:39Who am I? That's fair.
- 17:41OK, so that's it for the fun. Facts and everything.
- 17:44So it's time for a good, bad, ugly and absurd and you kick it
- 17:48off. Oh my God this movie is so
- 17:50fucking funny. Like it's it blows my mind that
- 17:53studios didn't get the tone because it's.
- 17:56And I guess maybe at that point, zombie movies were generally
- 17:59meant to be more scary than anything, but.
- 18:02Yeah, it's kind of, it's weird to me that it's like they're
- 18:06almost like horror and comedy, Like it's like as if they had
- 18:10never heard of that as a concept.
- 18:12Yeah, as if the first three Scream movies hadn't come out
- 18:15already. Yeah.
- 18:16And I wouldn't call them horror comedy, so.
- 18:19But there are like other horror comedies, that scary movie.
- 18:21Scary movie, Yeah. But yeah, I it's just, it's so
- 18:26funny. The script is really smart.
- 18:28I like there's continual references to how the movie is
- 18:32going to play out. Like the whole plan.
- 18:34They do end up, you know, when they're talking about like going
- 18:39to the Winchester, that is actually what ends up happening.
- 18:41Like he's like, tomorrow we'll go around, we'll do all of these
- 18:44things, we're going to drink together.
- 18:45We're just not worry about your problems.
- 18:46And we'll wind up at the Winchester.
- 18:48And that's what ends up being their plan on Z Day.
- 18:52The scene with Don't Stop Me Now is fucking beautiful.
- 18:57That is cinema. They, I was reading about that.
- 19:00They apparently they did. They wrote that song in mind
- 19:04before they even got clearance. And then like they wanted it so
- 19:08badly that they like, wrote a letter to I guess whoever was in
- 19:12control of that and begged them to get to use it.
- 19:15And it's amazing that they did. It's just it, it fits perfectly.
- 19:21And then you also get a throw in other jokes like David killed
- 19:25the Queen and he's like, what? Yeah, I like that too.
- 19:28That was really smart. Yeah, it's just, it's so it's so
- 19:32well done and it's so enjoyable and it's a timeless classic.
- 19:35I mean, like you were saying, it's hard to believe that this
- 19:38movie is 20 years old because it's still feel it, like it
- 19:41still hits all the right notes and it doesn't feel really
- 19:45dated. It's it's amazing.
- 19:47And Simon Pegg, I just I love him.
- 19:51He's. Him and Nick Frost are a good
- 19:53duo. Yes, they play off of each other
- 19:55so well. Yeah, they have great chemistry.
- 19:57You can tell that they're actual, like real life.
- 19:59Yeah, yeah. It's awesome.
- 20:02You what do you think is good? I mean, this is kind of like a
- 20:06thing in general for just Edgar Wright movies, but I love his
- 20:08style. He's he's so good at doing
- 20:11movies. If you watch an Edgar Wright
- 20:13movie, you know it's going to have a banging soundtrack.
- 20:15You know it's going to have some amazing film transitions because
- 20:19that's like one of his big things.
- 20:20Like whenever, like it would just like switch you over to the
- 20:23next scene. And it's just so seamless and
- 20:25it's all, it's just so entertaining.
- 20:27It's such a good way of visual storytelling.
- 20:29Yeah, Travis doesn't even like Last Night in Soho, but he likes
- 20:31Edgar Wright's directing in it. I do, yeah.
- 20:34And I wouldn't say mini banger songs in that one.
- 20:38This is the it's more very old school like.
- 20:42I'm sorry, do you not think that things will be great when you're
- 20:45downtown? It's not exactly.
- 20:50Also, are you saying are you implying that Suzie Sue and the
- 20:53Banshees don't produce bangers? Who the fuck is Suzie Sue and
- 20:57the Banshees? Is that the band from the movie?
- 21:01They're featured in the soundtrack.
- 21:03I don't know. Happy house.
- 21:05Nope, not ringing any bells. Wilson OK.
- 21:09Well, it doesn't discredit what I said.
- 21:12He's really good at that shit. Like, I don't know, He's just
- 21:16got, like, a knack for it. And yeah, like, exactly what you
- 21:19were saying before. Like, I love the references in
- 21:21this movie. They're so smart.
- 21:24I love at the end when they just call out 28 days later.
- 21:27It's like, by the way, it's not from monkeys being infected.
- 21:32The. Thing is, before he's about to
- 21:34get cut off, it's like it was found to be total bullshit.
- 21:38And I like that we never actually find the cause for it.
- 21:41Yeah, I didn't even think of that.
- 21:42But yeah, there's like, no, there's no explanation.
- 21:45Because he's always like flipping through the channel.
- 21:47Like when we see the newspaper he covers up the front of the
- 21:50headline, so you can't really read the whole thing.
- 21:52Yeah, that's. That's smart.
- 21:54We never get the full explanation behind it and I like
- 21:56it because it's a real funny like fuck you to all of the
- 22:00zombie movies that have some like Major Outbreak showing how
- 22:03this happened. Man, and that's like, this movie
- 22:07is so good with showing the onset of the outbreak.
- 22:12I love the scene. I love how they establish the
- 22:14normal routine of him getting out of his home, walking to the
- 22:18store and doing that. And then we get to see that
- 22:20again. And then you see all of the
- 22:22things that have changed. Because realistically this is
- 22:25what would happen during a zombie outbreak like.
- 22:28Being oblivious, yes. People are going to be
- 22:30oblivious. They'll generally like, they
- 22:32might hear stuff passing in the news, but they're not going to
- 22:34really pay attention to it, and then they're just going to go
- 22:37about life as normal until they absolutely, positively can't.
- 22:40Until it's an inconvenience to them.
- 22:43Yeah, that's when it starts to be a problem.
- 22:45But if you're able to go to the store, get your Cornetto, get
- 22:47you a Coke, Diet Coke, then that's all fine.
- 22:51You're all gravy. You don't have to worry about
- 22:53anything. Yeah.
- 22:54So, yeah, those are the good things I have to say about this.
- 22:59OK. All right.
- 23:00Bad things. Truthful.
- 23:05I really don't have a lot of bad for it.
- 23:07There's just it just, it's always so fucking solid to me
- 23:11the whole way through. It's solid for me too.
- 23:14And there's a thing that I noticed in this movie.
- 23:15And again, like it's a horror comedy, so you're like, you
- 23:18can't take it too seriously. But one of the things I noticed
- 23:22is the zombies are like a threat.
- 23:27And then there's a lot of times where they're just not a threat.
- 23:30Like at the end of the movie when they're all in the
- 23:32Winchester and it's like, Oh my God, they're all busting in.
- 23:35They're all going to come in here.
- 23:36And then like it's almost like they all like patiently wait
- 23:39because they felt like they were interrupting Barbara dying.
- 23:42Like, oh, sorry, we'll let you handle that.
- 23:44Just back away and nothing's a problem.
- 23:46It's one of the remainders of those primal instincts that they
- 23:48were talking about it then, the primal instinct we respect the
- 23:51morning of the dead. I like that too.
- 23:52I like that they actually give them like humanity a little bit
- 23:57too. And that's, that's kind of a
- 23:59nice touch to it. So that was like the only bad
- 24:03thing that I could really think of because like everything else,
- 24:05like he says, so perfect ugly stuff then.
- 24:11It casually dropping an N word. Oh yeah.
- 24:15I always forget about that until it happens and I'm like.
- 24:17Yeah, that's one of those things where you just cringe a little
- 24:19bit. Yeah, OK.
- 24:21And then also the fact that as soon as the zombie virus or
- 24:25whatever was under control, it immediately became, how can we
- 24:29exploit the zombies? So we're gonna put them into
- 24:32these customer service roles. We're gonna put them into sports
- 24:38games on TV. We're gonna have exploitative
- 24:42daytime talk TV shows. This is another reference.
- 24:46This is like another movie I think, where they did that.
- 24:50We've talked about this on the show before, 'cause I remember I
- 24:53was arguing about it, so I was like, no, it's Shaun of the
- 24:55Dead. You're like, no, it's a
- 24:56different movie. And I was like, no, they
- 24:57definitely end Shaun of the Dead.
- 24:59They do, but I think that yeah, they're referencing another
- 25:02movie because there's like a whole thing where there's like a
- 25:04whole sport where they're like fuck up zombies or something.
- 25:08I. Can't remember, we've definitely
- 25:10talked about this. What the fuck is that movie?
- 25:12If you know it, tell me, because I don't know Travis.
- 25:15Will have looked this up by the time you let him know.
- 25:18But still tell me, you know, like I you know.
- 25:20Tell him that you know what he's let's.
- 25:22Connect. Let's have a conversation.
- 25:24Yeah, even even if I know the answer, my ugly is fucking.
- 25:33What is his name again? Duffs I can't stand.
- 25:36He's such an insufferable asshole.
- 25:38David and Diana calls him Daffs is like a.
- 25:40Daffs. Oh man, OK, he was credited as
- 25:43David also. But like the majority of the
- 25:46movie, that's what they call. Him.
- 25:47All of them do. I liked the behind the scenes
- 25:50where Zach just refers to him as the bees.
- 25:52The DS? Oh, yeah, but man, fuck that
- 25:56guy. I guess soon he's like he, he's
- 25:58like jealous of Sean. And then he's like, all right,
- 26:00I'm gonna shoot your mom. Like I get it.
- 26:02Like a more put together version of Ed where like Simon, sorry,
- 26:08Sean is like, yeah, it's kind of an asshole, but he's my asshole,
- 26:13He's my friend. He makes me laugh.
- 26:14And that's, you know, that's Liz's version of Ed is David who
- 26:21yeah, he is a bit abrasive and he is a twat and we all
- 26:24acknowledge it, but he's our friend.
- 26:25He's got his good points, too. They're just opposite ends of
- 26:27the he's our asshole spectrum. I think he's just mostly a Leech
- 26:31to that friend group because he just wants to be with Liz so
- 26:34badly and his girlfriend Diane just doesn't really.
- 26:38That's so sad that she just accepts it.
- 26:40I know and she dies for him. Yeah, like the dude got ripped
- 26:44like to shreds and then. Just shreds, you say?
- 26:47I do and he she just like runs out and.
- 26:53To shreds, you say? Yeah, OK, absurd.
- 27:04Man, I guess there's a lot of absurd.
- 27:13I think what I'm gonna go with is that everybody's saying
- 27:17you've got red on you. I.
- 27:19Like that? That's a nice running guy.
- 27:21Yeah, 'cause instead of like, oh, your pen leaked or oh,
- 27:25you're covered in blood, what the fuck?
- 27:27Everybody's just like, you've got red on.
- 27:28You just see red, Yeah. Mine is the statement from Big
- 27:34Al that docs can't look up and also how every time I hear that
- 27:39I legitimately question. I'm like, actually do.
- 27:43That we've seen. Talia, look up.
- 27:44I know. And then that's what I remember.
- 27:46But I'm like, but does she? And I'm like, no, she
- 27:48definitely. Does there was a great part at
- 27:50the end of the movie where Sean's like OK fine, he was
- 27:55right about this, but dogs can look up.
- 27:57And the scout sat up from her cat bed and looked over at Talia
- 28:02like she was daring her to prove the point.
- 28:04And Talia was too sleepy. She was too sleepy.
- 28:06She got a popcorn toy today, so she wore herself out playing
- 28:10earlier. Yeah, yeah, she had too much
- 28:11fun. Yeah.
- 28:13OK. OK.
- 28:14So let's rate. It oh 10 10 out of 10.
- 28:17Yeah, that's absolutely, Yeah. This is a this is a fucking
- 28:19awesome movie. It's a classic.
- 28:21God it's sad that this is like actually a classic status now
- 28:24too. I yeah, it's a it's and it's one
- 28:28of those two that like you don't really realize how old it is
- 28:30until he's like, I haven't taken sugar in my tea since 1984.
- 28:34And I'm like, what are you on about?
- 28:36But I'm like, how old would he? Have been then 20/9/1984 2004,
- 28:42nine years old. OK, yeah, you're drinking tea at
- 28:449:00. He's British.
- 28:46I know I tried to drink coffee when I was a kid because
- 28:48everybody was doing it and I felt like I needed to and I
- 28:52really powered through it, but I hated it.
- 28:54I didn't like coffee until college.
- 28:56Wow. Yeah, it took me that long.
- 28:57No, I think I probably started in like middle.
- 29:00School. So cool.
- 29:02OK, All right. Are we ready to get into this?
- 29:06I'm not going to argue with you about it.
- 29:08OK, that's beautiful. You said I was so cool.
- 29:16OK. OK, yeah, let's go.
- 29:18Let's go. All right.
- 29:20Start off Sean's Drinking a Pine at the Winchester with Ed and
- 29:26David and Diane and Liz. I love this reveal because it
- 29:30seems like a one-on-one with him and Liz, and then Ed kind of
- 29:34chimes in and then feels. Like no offense Ed, and then he
- 29:36goes no offense Dave and die. Yeah, and they're just over
- 29:40there today to the sides too. And I love this.
- 29:42This is like classic type of British humor that I enjoy where
- 29:47it's just like, and this just exacerbates thing and he goes,
- 29:49what do you mean? She goes, well, it's not like
- 29:51you get along and he goes no, no, no.
- 29:52What does exacerbate mean? It's a good question.
- 29:54Yeah. So basically they are talking
- 29:57about how they don't do anything with just the two of them.
- 29:59It's always there all the time. They're always doing shit at the
- 30:02Winchester. It's not romantic.
- 30:04She wants more. And he's like, I promise I'll
- 30:07change to make up for our three-year anniversary.
- 30:13We never went out to it. We came out here to the
- 30:15Winchester. Tomorrow night we'll go to the
- 30:17place that does all the fish. Full cheese, by the way, Full
- 30:20cheese. But I like instead how they
- 30:23consistently refer to it as the place that does all the fish.
- 30:26All of the fish. Yeah, all the.
- 30:27Fish. Does that mean that they do
- 30:29every single fish? Or is that just mean exclusively
- 30:32fish? I want to note like is it a
- 30:34sushi place or fish and chips? Oh, could be exclusively fish,
- 30:42but also all of the fish. That's the restaurant.
- 30:45Yeah. Full cheese, including shark
- 30:48wrestled by a zombie. Yes, yes.
- 30:52So yeah, Yeah, they make that promise and boom.
- 30:54OK, so next morning Sean stumbles out kind of like a
- 30:57zombie. Yes I do love these shots around
- 31:00town of different droves of people and it's almost like
- 31:03they're zombie like but. They're just going about the
- 31:05day-to-day. I like that, too.
- 31:06Yeah, Because everybody's just like stuck in that pattern.
- 31:09Yeah. So yeah, he's going to work.
- 31:12He's and this is an awesome one shot sequence of him getting out
- 31:16of the house, walking through the streets and encountering
- 31:19just like these random people. And I love how they establish
- 31:23these just random characters just so we can see them turn
- 31:26into zombies later. Well, before he goes off to
- 31:28work, he does have a moment with Pete, who is his flatmate, who's
- 31:31like, hey, when is Ed leaving? He doesn't have a job besides
- 31:36selling drugs. Yes, that's right.
- 31:38Which we do. Cut to Ed taking a call and he's
- 31:43saying like, no, I've only got a Henry.
- 31:44I don't know what that means. I don't know.
- 31:46There's gonna be probably a lot of British swing that we're not
- 31:49gonna catch with us right here. I'm sorry blokes.
- 31:52I I assume it's like an ounce of weed?
- 31:56I don't fucking know. He doesn't have any weed.
- 31:59That's basically. It are Oz metric.
- 32:02I don't fucking know man, you're asking the wrong guy.
- 32:05But yeah, so anyway, and and that's just important for like a
- 32:09little throwaway joke later, but so yeah, he's just like, you
- 32:13know, he never cleans up or anything.
- 32:15And he asks Ed directly to clean up.
- 32:18And Ed kind of blows him off on Sean's like, please clean up.
- 32:21He goes, I'm not doing anything for him.
- 32:23He goes do it for me. And he goes, I'm sorry Sean.
- 32:26And he goes, what? He goes, I'm sorry, Sean.
- 32:29He farted. He said he'll stop doing it when
- 32:31he stops like. He also put it on Pete's back
- 32:34like a bunch of post it notes that just say I am a prick.
- 32:37Yeah, yeah, it's funny. OK, So now Sean does his walk.
- 32:41He goes, gets a drink. He stops at Nelson's shop.
- 32:45Yeah, there are newspapers there talking about some kind of havoc
- 32:49going on. We just get clues that there's
- 32:51something going. On Yeah, like when he's on the
- 32:53bus and he looks over and sees a woman collapse at another stop.
- 32:58He gets to work. The person that's normally there
- 33:00is under the weather, so he's in charge and everybody jokes
- 33:03around about him being the oldest and because they're all
- 33:07like high schoolers basically. Why are high schoolers sales
- 33:10associates? That's not like a normal thing,
- 33:12I don't think. Maybe it is in Britain.
- 33:15It could be. I'm sorry.
- 33:16I'm going to stop doing that, you guys.
- 33:18Yeah, you can't do it the. Entire I know, I know, I don't
- 33:23know. But I do think it's funny
- 33:24because in the middle of their like morning huddle or whatever,
- 33:27the one guy that's like really going back and forth with Sean
- 33:31takes a call and he goes no, no, no, he said he's only got a
- 33:34Henry so. That oh that's his guy?
- 33:36I didn't even catch that. Oh that's hilarious.
- 33:40What the fuck is his name? I can't remember his name.
- 33:42I don't think we get a name. I think we do, yeah.
- 33:44As refers to him as Noodle when he calls him.
- 33:46No, you get his name because he has the name tag and he's also
- 33:49one of the zombies later on TV that's pushing the shopping
- 33:52carts in the 0. Shit, I missed that.
- 33:55It's like net or something, I don't fucking know.
- 33:57But anyways, Sean's got a visitor.
- 34:00It's his dad who he claims. It's not his dad.
- 34:03It's Phillip who his mom married and. 17 years ago, so he's been
- 34:08in Sean's life at a minimum since he was 12 years old, but
- 34:12probably longer depending on how long they were together before
- 34:15they got married. Yeah, I would assume that he can
- 34:17get married right away. Yeah.
- 34:19So yeah, he's like, all right, Sean, are you going to come see
- 34:22your mother? It's your it's your bimonthly
- 34:24visit. Maybe you can bring the flowers
- 34:27you forgot to bring for Mother's Day.
- 34:29You've got red on you. So yeah.
- 34:35And then Liz calls saying, oh, did you get my message about the
- 34:40reservation? And because Ned, what's his
- 34:42face, whatever noodle noodle, he is like giving Sean a hard time
- 34:50for having a personal visitor and now he's getting a personal
- 34:52call. So Sean's trying to act like
- 34:54it's not that. Well, this from corporate he
- 34:56calls us. Yeah, he's just.
- 34:58From corporate, yeah, no, I've got, I've got it all taken care
- 35:00of. Just.
- 35:01Giving her a bunch of uh huh. And she's like, all right, did
- 35:03you get the reservation? Uh huh.
- 35:04Yep, Yep, Yep. So on his way home, he stops to
- 35:07buy flowers for a wonderful mum. He notices like somebody across
- 35:14the street who is attacking a bunch of ducks or birds or
- 35:18something. Pigeons.
- 35:19Pigeons OK, The national bird of Britain.
- 35:22British, Yeah. As if we made pigeons.
- 35:25That's one of those things I feel like could also be
- 35:27plausible as just like a like a random person.
- 35:29Just yeah. You see shit?
- 35:31Yeah. You do, Yeah.
- 35:32And I mean, shit like that happens, Yeah.
- 35:35So. Yeah.
- 35:36And. Then on the bus on his way home
- 35:39a bunch of people are just like sick around him Is gross.
- 35:41Yeah, everybody's just coughing. Yeah, so on his way home, he
- 35:46runs into a Vaughn who like, I guess they're, they're friends
- 35:50from back in the day and. I got the impression that they
- 35:53were exes. No, because she says, are you
- 35:56still with Liz? And he said yeah.
- 35:58And she goes, good, I'm glad somebody made it.
- 36:01Like it seems like she's happy for them to still be together.
- 36:06Yeah, I mean, it could have been like.
- 36:07The same friend group or something?
- 36:08It could be I I thought it was just like a mutual departure
- 36:12between them, but maybe whatever.
- 36:14Yeah, but he just, he reveals that it's been three years that
- 36:16they've been together. And this is important because,
- 36:19you know, at three years significant anniversary, he
- 36:21didn't do anything special. She hasn't ever met his mom.
- 36:25That's insane for three years. It makes me think of Midsummer
- 36:29and I'm like, has Danny met Christian's parents?
- 36:34No, really not. I'm sure that that has never
- 36:37happened, Yeah. I guess parents don't even know
- 36:40her name. They probably don't even know
- 36:42that he's. Seen her?
- 36:43It's. Like I thought you, you have a
- 36:46girlfriend. He's like, I guess you could say
- 36:48that he'd be, he'd waffle on it. Yeah, like it's OK.
- 36:52It's casual. Yeah, you know, we're in school.
- 36:53It's fine. Yeah, but this conversation
- 36:56makes him realize that oh shit, he forgot to do the
- 36:58reservations. So he calls, he's desperate to
- 37:01try and get a table and they're like, sorry, we just gave away
- 37:04the last table. Hangs up doesn't even wait for
- 37:07like honestly, though, if you that guy, you say like, how
- 37:10about a table for tomorrow? And then Sean like that's him
- 37:14selling a table. That's true.
- 37:16And then Sean has the opportunity to be like, they
- 37:17were all booked out today, but I got us a table for tomorrow.
- 37:20But he already had that conversation where he said yes,
- 37:23I got the table, so he's kind of fucked himself.
- 37:25Regardless, better than her calling him saying there was a
- 37:29mix up with the table. By the way, do you want to go to
- 37:32the Winchester instead? Yeah, yeah.
- 37:33He just kind of gives up on it, Yeah.
- 37:37If you're going to fuck up, at least do a little bit better
- 37:39recovery. Yeah, so he goes over to Liz's
- 37:43place to try and make up. At first they won't let him in,
- 37:47so he tries to climb up. Can't quite make it so they
- 37:50don't let him in. I love how that's a good set up
- 37:53for later. So they they let him in and they
- 37:57have a big fight and she dumps him because he wants to always
- 38:02go to the Winchester. Same shit that she was saying
- 38:04before. Yeah, she's like, I just, if I
- 38:06don't do something, I'm gonna end up one of those sad
- 38:10Alcoholics there wondering what went wrong with my life.
- 38:13I also kind of feel bad for her friends there, Diane and Dave,
- 38:18who are just kind of catching strays.
- 38:21Yeah, it's like she over hears. He's like, I like your friend.
- 38:25She's like, what? A failed actress in a twat.
- 38:28And he goes, that's harsh. And she goes, those are your
- 38:30words. And he goes, hey, I never called
- 38:33Diane a failed actress. Yeah, that was funny.
- 38:37So yeah, they're broken up. So Ed takes Sean out to the
- 38:42Winchester for a drink. Is this because it was their
- 38:44normal plan or because Sean is sad?
- 38:47Hard to say. I fucking love this scene though
- 38:50of Ed trying to cheer him up by doing his client impression and
- 38:55we just keep cutting to Sean with like deer streaming.
- 38:58Down his face. It's a really good gag.
- 39:03Also, apparently they wanted to keep this movie super scripted
- 39:07and this is one of the few moments where they got to
- 39:08improvise. So this moment of him giving the
- 39:11back stories of these people were improvised by Nick Frost.
- 39:14OK. Which is impressive.
- 39:16I love this. So like, yeah, he's just
- 39:18cheering him up. He's giving back stories because
- 39:20he's like. These are all fine characters
- 39:23here in the win chest. Yeah, because Liz was kind of
- 39:25like shitting on the like a possibility of being one of
- 39:28them. You get snake hips who is a
- 39:30bigamist strangled his first wife.
- 39:33Then you get a cock, a saddle maniac ex porn star.
- 39:37These sound like Cards Against Humanity cards.
- 39:40They do it, yeah. And then you get Big Al, who
- 39:43runs the bar. No, no.
- 39:44Big Al says that John, who runs the bar, is a member of the
- 39:47Mafia. That's right.
- 39:48Yeah. Yeah, John is the bartender
- 39:50there. With his trophy wife, yeah.
- 39:53Ex North London mafia. Yes.
- 39:56And Seans like, well, that can't be true.
- 39:59He goes, that's what the rifle over the bar is all about.
- 40:01And he goes, no, that's just there because this is called the
- 40:04Winchester. He goes, well, Big Al says it's
- 40:06true. And he goes Big.
- 40:06Al says dogs can't look up. And again, I always question,
- 40:10like, can they? And then I'm like, no, they can.
- 40:13Yeah. It just always gets me.
- 40:14It gets me. They're always like, they're
- 40:16everybody's got a thing like that where they hear a thing and
- 40:19they're very confident. And then the second they're
- 40:21confident, they're like, wait, no, I need, no, I need to Fact
- 40:24Check. Yeah, if you question it just
- 40:26like a tad bit, you're like, whoa, actually.
- 40:28Yeah, It throws your perception of reality completely to the
- 40:31wind. You're like, wait, what?
- 40:32Yeah. So that cheers them up enough
- 40:35for them to get wasted. Yeah.
- 40:36And they're. Doing like flaming shots and
- 40:39he's like, let's just keep this party rolling.
- 40:41You know where we'll have this whole big event tomorrow?
- 40:44We'll go from pub to pub. Yeah, I I love how when they
- 40:49walk out so like you get the zombie, it looks like somebody
- 40:52making out, but they fuck off. Yeah, they don't care.
- 40:54And then I love the scene with the guy.
- 40:57They're like doing the singing from whatever song that was
- 40:59playing in there. They like keep going over to the
- 41:01zombie. He goes, I guess it's cute.
- 41:05That's the thing that we do with the cats, especially Zoe, when
- 41:08she's real agitated and meowing at us.
- 41:10We'll sing at her and like try and prompt her to meow at the
- 41:13right time. So we're like.
- 41:18Scout's done that before. She's very successful and that.
- 41:21Scout freaking loves swimming pools by Kendrick Lamar.
- 41:25She does. She's she's like huge.
- 41:28One of my favorite things about this, though, is this as if they
- 41:31were ever going to hire somebody else to play Ed.
- 41:34This was his thick Frost audition right here.
- 41:38Like when they did the casting tapes on the DVD.
- 41:40It's just like them going and he doesn't have to do anything.
- 41:44He's just like somebody off to the side, like off crime and
- 41:47goes. Well, it was more, it seemed
- 41:50more like a formality, like we have to have Nick audition for
- 41:53this, but like it was just him and Simon fucking.
- 41:56Around well, that's it's a good moment too, because it's like a
- 41:59good chemistry test. That day, too?
- 42:01Absolutely. Yeah.
- 42:02So we cut to them home, they're DJ and they're doing Electro
- 42:05music. It is ungodly loud though, and I
- 42:08don't blame Pete because he's like, it's four in the morning,
- 42:11I've got out of work tomorrow and they're like, no you don't,
- 42:13it's Saturday, he goes, it's Sunday, I've got to go into the
- 42:17office because everybody else is ill and also I got bit because I
- 42:22was mugged on my way home. Lots of reasons to be grumpy
- 42:25regardless of Z day. Yeah.
- 42:28And just yeah, Electro music going on downstairs.
- 42:33He throws the album out the window.
- 42:35That is the second album that Sean ever bought.
- 42:37It's very sentimental. I feel like this was Edgar
- 42:39Wright injecting himself there a little bit because he's he seems
- 42:42like he's such a music nerd also.
- 42:44Yes, well, and I, I kind of love this, the match of Simon Pegg
- 42:49and Edgar Wright too, because they're both also like comic
- 42:52book nerds. Yeah, true.
- 42:54They. Just seem like they'd be good
- 42:56nerd bubbies. Well, they surely are.
- 42:59They definitely are. So it's like the morning, like
- 43:03he gives Sean a stern talking to.
- 43:06He's like get your life sorted. Yeah, he basically says that the
- 43:10only reason he keeps Ed around is because he is the only person
- 43:13he knows who's a bigger loser than him.
- 43:15Harsh. And then he goes, Oh, you don't
- 43:18believe? Let me guess, It was it was Liz
- 43:20that broke up with you, right, Sean?
- 43:22Oh yeah, God. Kick this man while he's down.
- 43:26He might be an asshole, but I think he kind of had this one
- 43:28coming. So Sean just stumbles to the
- 43:31kitchen, writes something on the dry erase board and passes out.
- 43:35And when he wakes up he sees that it says go around mums, get
- 43:39Liz back, sort life out drunk, all the things drunk mouth
- 43:44speaks, sober thoughts, sure. So Yep.
- 43:48So he is gonna go to work. No, actually he's just he's
- 43:53running down to the shop offers to get.
- 43:58Yeah, you're right. Yeah, he's.
- 43:58Just still in his clothes from the day before.
- 44:00That's right. Yeah.
- 44:01Yeah. So he gets Ed Cornetto and he's
- 44:07like, not paying attention to like, people staggering around
- 44:11or the bloody handprints in the shop, or Nelson groaning in pain
- 44:15in the back of the shop. Yeah, he just, like, walks
- 44:19around all the shit and I love. Yeah.
- 44:21It's just like everything that we saw before Biz homified now.
- 44:24Yeah. So he comes back, sitting on the
- 44:26couch, flipping through the TV, and Ed goes, Hey, there's a girl
- 44:30in the garden. I love the show of Ed.
- 44:32He's just, like, behind the curtain.
- 44:35Like, I don't know, there's something about that.
- 44:37We've all done that. Yeah.
- 44:38And they peek back there and yeah, there's just like this
- 44:40woman stumbling around in the backyard.
- 44:43So they go out there and they're trying to get her attention.
- 44:45She's not turning around. Ed throws something at her which
- 44:48like, yeah, I get it, she's a zombie, but like, yeah, he
- 44:52doesn't. Know that yeah, he's just.
- 44:54Throwing a rock at a human. It's just a Pebble just to get
- 44:58her attention. That was bigger than a Pebble.
- 45:01OK, a tiny rock. It's not going to hurt.
- 45:03That's it's the size of that piece of wood that fucked up our
- 45:06shopping cart earlier. Oh damn, that did probably.
- 45:11It's true. So yeah, they just think that
- 45:14she's super drunk and they think that she's trying to come on to
- 45:17Sean because she tackles Sean. And then she starts trying to
- 45:19buy it and he is like, whoa, hey, what's up?
- 45:23And then ends up throwing her and she falls onto a pipe in the
- 45:25ground. And you can see the terror, I
- 45:29think he killed a woman, and then the terror at watching her
- 45:32rise up from that pipe. Yeah.
- 45:34Oh man, it's so good. I love this moment.
- 45:37Yeah. So they like run back inside.
- 45:40There's another zombie that's joined too.
- 45:42I'm so. Like Megan?
- 45:43I feel like he is modeled after the zombie from the opening of
- 45:49Zombie Pochi Zombie on the boat. He looks exactly like him,
- 45:53doesn't he? I could see that.
- 45:55Yeah, I, I feel like it's got to be.
- 45:56I mean, we've already got. And it's that same kind of
- 45:58moment of like, oh shit, this is really happening.
- 46:01Like an opening. Have at that opening.
- 46:03Yeah, I I feel like it's got to be a reference.
- 46:06So they're like, what the fuck do you do?
- 46:08And they turn on the news and the news anchor tells them that
- 46:12you have to shoot their head, destroy their brains, or just
- 46:17decapitate them. Yes, I also do like I love
- 46:20learning like different British like terminology.
- 46:25You know how like instead of vacation they say holiday and
- 46:28say trunk, they say boot. Instead of saying the line is
- 46:32busy, they say the line is engaged.
- 46:34Engaged. Yeah, it's just.
- 46:35Like, so it's so much classier than American English.
- 46:39Yeah, it is. Yeah, so they decide that
- 46:44they're gonna go improvise some weapons and gonna go fuck up the
- 46:47two zombies in their backyard. It looks it looks like a rage
- 46:51room bucket. It really does cuz.
- 46:53It's just like a box of like mugs and bottles.
- 46:56And if you've never done a rage room, first of all, highly
- 47:00recommend it. Second of all, be prepared to be
- 47:02fucking sore the next day. Also, be prepared for things to
- 47:06not break as easily as you expected.
- 47:07To well, that's why you're gonna be sore the next day.
- 47:11You really have to put your back into it.
- 47:13Yeah, not like this movie right here.
- 47:14They're like throwing records at their faces and it's just like
- 47:17straight up breaking in the Shard.
- 47:18It's like that's not gonna happen.
- 47:20Yeah, no, that that wouldn't happen that way.
- 47:22But I do like them going through his collection of records and
- 47:27trying to figure out which ones to throw.
- 47:28And he's got different things that he likes and I like the
- 47:32ones that he defends and and just kind of making fun of him
- 47:36like you do sometimes with your friends.
- 47:38Yeah, it's fun, yeah, but they're not really working.
- 47:42So Sean goes to the shed and he busts through the door because
- 47:46it's locked, and they get a cricket bat and a shovel.
- 47:50Yes, and I'm glad they eventually specified it was a
- 47:52cricket bat because I thought it was a paddle.
- 47:56I could have told you. Like a fraternity paddle.
- 47:58Type. It does look like that, it's a
- 48:00bit too big. Yeah, I was like, what the fuck
- 48:03is this? And then later when his mom's
- 48:05like, why have you got a cricket bat?
- 48:07And I was like, Oh yeah, cricket's a thing.
- 48:10Yeah, it's one of the sports I don't really think about too
- 48:12much, but in this, yeah. Is it kind of like baseball?
- 48:17Yeah. Kind of.
- 48:20But like, that's, I don't know, it's so weird.
- 48:24It's like a bizarro baseball. Baseball's a bizarro baseball,
- 48:27babe. Well, this is even.
- 48:29More weird. So they managed to whack the
- 48:33zombies, they get threats neutralized, they go back
- 48:36inside. And they're trying to come up
- 48:37with a plan because he's like, OK, need to go rescue my mom and
- 48:42need to rescue Liz. And so he tried.
- 48:46And they realized that Pete's probably infected as well
- 48:49because the news is saying, like, people that have been
- 48:51bitten will have a headache and likely some of the similar
- 48:54behaviors of the people that bit them.
- 48:57And Pete had been talking about having a headache and being
- 48:59bitten. So they're like, oh, so we need
- 49:02to. Maybe we can take his car.
- 49:04I've always wanted to drive Pete's car.
- 49:07And they try and call Liz and Shawn's like, shit, she's
- 49:12engaged. And I guess that was quick.
- 49:14Yeah. Which is a funny moment.
- 49:17And then the look on Shawn's face where it's like, that's
- 49:19funny. But now it's not the time.
- 49:21Like we've all been there. Call his mom.
- 49:25Mom's OK. They had a scuffle with some
- 49:28people. But somebody tried to break in
- 49:29and she's like, I think it's just, you know, addicts or
- 49:32something. But they did bite Phillip.
- 49:34So, you know, he's like, you need to not be around Phillip.
- 49:41So this is where they come up with a plan.
- 49:43I love it. This is like one of the most
- 49:44portable things from the movie. But before that an amazing
- 49:48moment because like they're going back and forth and Sean's
- 49:52like we're going to come save you mom and in the background
- 49:54and he goes, we're coming and get you Barbara.
- 49:57Oh yeah. Amazing, beautiful.
- 49:59Great. Reference, yeah.
- 50:00I feel like they had to have named her Barbara solely so they
- 50:03can do. That yeah, absolutely.
- 50:04There's no other reason to name her Barbara.
- 50:06And I love the way Ed is always like very protective of Barbara,
- 50:10like the way that you are of your best friend's.
- 50:12Parents. Yeah, that.
- 50:13You've grown up around and you can definitely see her being the
- 50:16type that would have opened house up to to Seans friends.
- 50:20Yeah, I could see it. Yeah, it feels like a real
- 50:22thing. So now here's the plan.
- 50:26They're gonna. Swing by moms.
- 50:29Swing by moms pick. Her up, go to Liz's, make sure
- 50:31everybody's OK, and then we'll just sit there, drink some tea
- 50:33and wait for the whole thing to blow over.
- 50:35I just love how in every iteration it starts off with him
- 50:38going, sorry Phil, we have to do this and they like Bond and I
- 50:41guess more and more. Violent.
- 50:44Abbreviated. Sorry, Phil.
- 50:45Then you just like, bat, like bashes him in the head and it's
- 50:48really funny. Yeah, so.
- 50:52Ed is like, well, no, I want to be somewhere where I know where
- 50:55there are exits on where I can smoke.
- 50:56And he goes, OK, so we'll go get Mom, take care of Phil, go get
- 51:00Liz, come back here and have a nice cup of wait for this whole
- 51:04thing to blow over if. It's whole thing to blow over.
- 51:06And then Ed's like, is Liz really gonna want to come here,
- 51:09though? And Sean's like, that's true.
- 51:11So where, where can we go that's safe?
- 51:14We're familiar. We can smoke.
- 51:18And the wind chest. It all comes back to the
- 51:21Winchester. And honestly, though, I
- 51:23understand that you want to be at your senses during the zombie
- 51:26apocalypse, but also there's a part of me that would be OK with
- 51:30getting maybe a little tipsy. Like we need to take the edge
- 51:32off. Yeah, you got to take the edge.
- 51:33Off you don't want. To get sloppy drunk in a time
- 51:37like this, but a little bit wow for sure.
- 51:39But also it could help you camouflage yourself around the
- 51:42zombies. If you get blackout drunk, yeah,
- 51:43they'll probably start to mistake you for an actual
- 51:46zombie. So all right, plan's set.
- 51:49They're going to go. I love the scene where Sean
- 51:51peeks through the little, like a male drop at the door.
- 51:55He's like, oh, it's not that bad as it looks.
- 51:56And he, like, looks widely to the right.
- 51:58Oh, there they are. It's just right there.
- 52:00But first, he's going to take a wee.
- 52:02Yeah. So he goes upstairs and I refer
- 52:05to him as Zompete. He's in the shower, tries to get
- 52:09him. He he doesn't do anything about
- 52:12him at the time, but we do confirm that Pete has in fact
- 52:15turned. Yes, he did, and he's naked.
- 52:18Too, And he's naked. Naked zombie.
- 52:20He turned in the shower then, that seems.
- 52:22Yeah, which, yeah, he he must have just died showering.
- 52:27Like and he's got some bruising on the side and it just takes me
- 52:31back to Return of the Living Dead.
- 52:35Yeah, Rick and Mortis. Yeah, Rick Morris, baby Rick
- 52:37Morris. Do you think the zombies
- 52:39experience that 'cause they're still constantly moving it
- 52:41seems? It happened in Return of the
- 52:44Living Dead. Frank and Freddie both
- 52:47experienced regular. They sad that they were
- 52:50stationary for a long time. Well, we don't know how long
- 52:54Pete was in the shower. That's.
- 52:56True, because I could see like it's it's, it's like a what is
- 53:02it? The Prowler, like with the one
- 53:05friend that's in the shower and they just assume she's in the
- 53:07shower all fucking night. They probably heard Pete in the
- 53:09shower and they're like, whatever.
- 53:10Well, these zombies also seem really dumb.
- 53:13Yeah, so he seems to have been stuck in the shower and doesn't
- 53:17know how to get out. Zoe in the litter box before we
- 53:20took the door off. Yeah, exactly.
- 53:22They're just like little Zoe's. That's dangerous.
- 53:27Especially Zoe likes to bite you.
- 53:29Yeah, and we can hear her. She's out there right now and
- 53:31meowing out. She's a zombie.
- 53:34Could be, could be. All right, So got the keys,
- 53:39Pete. They're running away now.
- 53:41They got to go because Pete's chasing them out there.
- 53:43So they take his car and they make it over to Mom's place.
- 53:47Yeah, I like that as time goes on and goes from driving
- 53:52carefully to hitting as many as on piece as he can.
- 53:55I get it because you kind of want to, but I mean, you don't
- 53:57really have to in this case. But whatever man, I would avoid
- 54:00them 'cause I don't want them to fuck up my car.
- 54:02Yeah, I do like the one though, like the first one that they hit
- 54:05on accident and they reversed to see if it was like, oh, why
- 54:11would I live? Or undead, Yeah.
- 54:13And then he comes up and he's like, oh, and Sean's like, Oh my
- 54:16God. Well, that's the thing, It could
- 54:18have killed him and turned him into a zombie.
- 54:20You don't know. That's true.
- 54:21The timeline for how quickly one turns into a zombie is very
- 54:25finicky in. This movie, it doesn't seem to
- 54:26be consistent. OK, so they make it there.
- 54:30Ed is going to stay in the car. Yeah.
- 54:33He's really eyeing that Jaguar that.
- 54:35Phillip has, and I like that. Clearly, Phillip had been in the
- 54:38middle of watching his car. When?
- 54:39Yeah. Those zombies busted in earlier,
- 54:43it's just a nice like little touch, like to have the soap
- 54:46still on the car. Yeah, and a little sponge still
- 54:48out there. Yeah, but he hasn't turned or
- 54:51anything yet, so Sean doesn't really have a good excuse to try
- 54:54and take him out. And Barbara's made it clear that
- 54:56she's not going anywhere without him.
- 54:58So the three of them end up walking out and Ned's like, oh,
- 55:02the car is a little bit banged up and Sean's like you were
- 55:04parked. He goes.
- 55:05I guess we'll just. Have to take the yeah, I kind of
- 55:08got into an accident. He's like, you were parked and
- 55:10he's just kind of she's like has his head down.
- 55:12He's like, yeah, and clearly he just wanted a record so he could
- 55:17drive the Jaguar. Yeah, so they're getting ready
- 55:20to get into the Jaguars, Phillips arguing about them
- 55:24being allowed to drive and then he's attacked and he's big and
- 55:27then. And then double back.
- 55:29Yeah, Yep. So they all get in there.
- 55:32They get to Liz's, Ed is going to keep them driving around
- 55:36while Sean goes in and tries to get the three of them to come
- 55:38with him. He rings the buzzer, but he is
- 55:42being converged upon so he doesn't actually answer them.
- 55:45When they like, you know, we're like, hello, who is this?
- 55:48I'm like, should we let you in or whatever?
- 55:50And he ends up climbing up the balcony.
- 55:52Good for him, I'm proud of him. I think this time he had
- 55:54adrenaline on his side. Yes, definitely.
- 55:58So he basically is just like, hey, we need to go somewhere
- 56:01safe. Like the zombies already know
- 56:02you're here. They would have figured it out.
- 56:04They were headed this way before I came here.
- 56:06We need to go. It'll be a nice, safe place.
- 56:09We know the lay of the land there.
- 56:12And at first, Liz is unsure. Diane's all aboard.
- 56:16Daffs is like, oh, absolutely not, we're not doing that.
- 56:20Well, what are you doing, Liz? Yeah, he's like, I'll only know
- 56:22if Liz goes. Yeah, yeah.
- 56:24And then they all decide to go so.
- 56:27They are all, I do love this moment where he's like, it's
- 56:30going to be crowded in the car. Does anybody have transport?
- 56:33And Diane's like, oh, me. And he's like, really?
- 56:36She was no, but I passed my test.
- 56:38And I like that she was just like, it clearly just happened
- 56:40and then the apocalypse happened so she hasn't had a chance to be
- 56:43excited about it. That would suck.
- 56:46And then here's one of those things.
- 56:48David can't resist the opportunity to be smug.
- 56:51He goes well, I just don't see the point of having a car in
- 56:53London. Yeah, I know.
- 56:54Like, yeah, yeah. Not the time.
- 56:56Yeah, you may. We can talk about this later,
- 56:59'cause I might be inclined to agree.
- 57:01Yeah, but this is not. Just say no and we'll move on.
- 57:04Yes. So they all pile into the cars,
- 57:07you know? What Dave is what?
- 57:09He's a fart smeller. He is a fart smeller.
- 57:11And not in like a funny, hot hot way, but in a.
- 57:16Like a fine line. Yeah, that was a scout.
- 57:19Kind of way, yeah. OK, so it's really cramped in
- 57:23the car right now. Yeah.
- 57:24Yeah. Nick is just hidden.
- 57:26Or not Nick, Ed is just hidden. Ed.
- 57:28We're doing this. We're not.
- 57:29To call them by their real. Name.
- 57:32He's just hitting everybody on the way there and he's blasting
- 57:34metal music and feel like his keeps going, like turn that shit
- 57:38down. And then he and have a moment
- 57:43where he's like, I just wanted to be the father figure that you
- 57:45need because you didn't have your father.
- 57:47And yeah, you know, sometimes I have to be a little bit
- 57:50disciplinarian because you're aimless and I want you to have
- 57:52that direction. And I've always loved you and
- 57:54cared about you. And that was one of the things
- 57:56that he was Sean was talking about with his mom, too.
- 57:59He's like, yeah, I mean, he's kind of been a bit of an asshole
- 58:02to me this whole time. And she's like, well, Sean,
- 58:04you've not exactly been the best person to live with, so.
- 58:07Poof. Yeah, so he's getting, he's
- 58:10catching all the harsh truths. Yeah, here lately, yeah.
- 58:13So yeah, Phil comes Queen. He's like, I just, you know, I
- 58:16love you and. Then he dies and then.
- 58:19He dies. Yeah.
- 58:20You could tell that he knew that he was going there.
- 58:22Yeah. So they stopped the car, and
- 58:25Phil has, like, turned into a zombie immediately.
- 58:27It might be the double bite that caused that.
- 58:29Yeah. They've accelerated the process.
- 58:31Yes, yeah, one you know in his wrist, but then the next was in
- 58:35his carotid, so. He's.
- 58:37Fucked, yeah, but he still has the child locks on safety first.
- 58:42So they're like trying to get out and they eventually like
- 58:44they lock him in and Barbara's like no, we need to get Phillip
- 58:47out. And she goes and Sean's like,
- 58:49that man is not your husband. There's not a trace of the man
- 58:52you love anymore in there. And then zombie feel like turns
- 58:55down there. He turns off the song.
- 58:57He's like, well, I love that. That was great.
- 59:02So yeah, now they're on foot. Yep.
- 59:04So they're going through backyards.
- 59:06They've got to hop some fences. Luckily, some of them look like
- 59:10the fences around our neighborhood and they just like
- 59:12touch. It just falls over.
- 59:14Yeah, this is where they encounter the bizarro group,
- 59:18where it's them, but they're like counterparts.
- 59:22Yeah, Yvonne, her boyfriend, his flatmates and her mom and her
- 59:27cousin Tom. I love how they all look like
- 59:29exactly. Yes, they're styled similarly.
- 59:32It's just it's nice. It's a nice touch.
- 59:34Yeah, and they all just kind of like, walk by each other and
- 59:36just like, not to their own counterpart.
- 59:39Yeah, it's really funny, so. And like you said, seeing Martin
- 59:42Freeman and Lucy Davis. That was.
- 59:44I like that. That was a good call.
- 59:46I wonder if there were any others that we didn't get since
- 59:48we don't know. Yeah, Yeah.
- 59:51We only know the ones that made it to the international market.
- 59:55Yeah. So they are continuing to wander
- 59:59around. They make it to this man's
- 1:00:01place. Barbara gets left behind.
- 1:00:04So Sean goes to get her, ends up like they busted the fence,
- 1:00:09there's some fighting and Diane and Liz are helping while Ed and
- 1:00:15David are just like watching, not doing anything.
- 1:00:19Eventually, he impales him. It's one of my favorite visual
- 1:00:22gags where Diane gives him the tetherball and he just like
- 1:00:26swings the ball. I like how he takes his like,
- 1:00:28now we're talking. He just like swings it around
- 1:00:30and it just bobs his head and the guy just keeps the same
- 1:00:33expression and. She's like, no, like they're
- 1:00:36both like pants and. I'm hell yeah.
- 1:00:40No, he does. And he successfully, like, Rams
- 1:00:42it right through. Him and then this is my favorite
- 1:00:44visual gag of the movie, which is where he's going to check if
- 1:00:47the coast is clear and he climbs up that tiny toddler.
- 1:00:52Yeah, And he just peeks over the fences and he comes back down.
- 1:00:56He's got a terrified dog. And he's like, Nope, not clear,
- 1:00:59not clear. Yeah, there's a shit ton of
- 1:01:00zombies there. So this is Diane's chance to
- 1:01:03shine. She teaches them how to act.
- 1:01:06They're going to act like zombies.
- 1:01:08Man, that's such a bold choice. I know that this happens in a
- 1:01:10few movies, but the idea of just pretending like you're a zombie
- 1:01:14and thinking that's enough smell.
- 1:01:16You. That's the thing, I always
- 1:01:18thought it was like they had like this scent or if they like,
- 1:01:22they just have this ability to notice whether or not you're
- 1:01:25actually living or not. I feel like there's got to be
- 1:01:28something there. And I love that there's like
- 1:01:29different moments in this, like, Liz takes it seriously.
- 1:01:32David is above it all, which is like especially hurtful because
- 1:01:35it's his girlfriend's like career.
- 1:01:38Yeah, he barely does anything. He's like, oh, that's his.
- 1:01:41That's his zombie attempt. Barbara is just legitimately
- 1:01:44spaced down and she goes sorry dear, I was 1,000,000 miles
- 1:01:47away. She's like, oh, Barbara, that's
- 1:01:49really good. She's like, oh, sorry, I wasn't
- 1:01:50paying attention. Ed doesn't do a good job, so him
- 1:01:54and Sean have a little bit and he's like, Oh yeah, like you're
- 1:01:56the king of zombies. And Sean does his.
- 1:01:58He goes, no, actually, yeah, that's pretty good.
- 1:02:01Yeah, so this is one of those awesome transition shots, right?
- 1:02:03All right, 321. They're about to practice and
- 1:02:06then cuts them all acting like zombies walking across to the
- 1:02:10Winchester. And I appreciate that like
- 1:02:12little moments like that that film makers do instead of
- 1:02:16showing us them practicing, because we don't need to see
- 1:02:19them practice and then shuffle across the street.
- 1:02:21We know that they practice, and then we know now we're cutting
- 1:02:23to the actual action of the movie.
- 1:02:26The only alternative is if you give me a montage and you put
- 1:02:29some fun music over top of. It yeah, and I absolutely would
- 1:02:32take a montage, but we're about to get one of like the best
- 1:02:35moments. Like musical moments.
- 1:02:37Yeah. So yeah, they're successfully
- 1:02:40blending in. They're making it across the
- 1:02:42street, they make it to the door, it's locked and everybody
- 1:02:46starts to panic. Yeah, and Sean is like trying to
- 1:02:49talk, but he keeps getting cut off by people.
- 1:02:52And then Ed's phone rings and this fucker answers it and it's
- 1:02:55fucking noodle again. Yes, the guy again, just trying
- 1:02:58to ask for more weed. Like that's not the time,
- 1:03:02friends. Sean just kind of explodes on
- 1:03:05and he's like, look man, everybody's fucking right.
- 1:03:08You've been kind of being a shithead here lately and you
- 1:03:11just need to take shit seriously, especially right now.
- 1:03:15Meanwhile, David has freaked out because he's like, all right, we
- 1:03:19got to bash the window in because that's the only way in.
- 1:03:22Sean keeps trying to tell them there's a door around back that
- 1:03:24everybody keeps interrupting him, so David takes it upon
- 1:03:26himself to just straight up bust the window open.
- 1:03:29Yeah, and Sean's like, okay, cool, they'll just follow us in
- 1:03:32there. So he distracts the zombies.
- 1:03:35He leads the group away so that way his friends can get into the
- 1:03:39bar. And that's what they do as
- 1:03:42they're climbing in a trash can. The trash can is what Dave had
- 1:03:46used to bust in the window and trash fill out.
- 1:03:49And it was the flowers that Sean had bought for her but threw
- 1:03:53away after Liz broke up with him.
- 1:03:55Yeah. And she goes, I think these are
- 1:03:57for me. No.
- 1:04:00So yeah, they're all in there. They're waiting for Sean.
- 1:04:03He's still not back. Yet David wants to block the
- 1:04:05window. He's like, it's been 20 minutes
- 1:04:06and they're like 17. He's like the power's off.
- 1:04:10Him and Liz are arguing and then Sean arrives.
- 1:04:12Yeah. God I fucking hate David here
- 1:04:15too. He's like well if somebody here
- 1:04:18clearly needs to be the hero so I think that should be me.
- 1:04:21Like he doesn't even say with confidence.
- 1:04:23Yeah, he's like, if nobody else wants to step up, then I guess
- 1:04:27that I don't have a problem doing that.
- 1:04:28Yeah, OK. If you say so.
- 1:04:32So he starts his idea of being the hero is to just shit on
- 1:04:35everything. So that's what he does.
- 1:04:37He's like, all right, how the fuck are we going to do this?
- 1:04:39There's just some fucking nuts here.
- 1:04:40So he starts throwing snacks around.
- 1:04:42Like, and here's the thing too, though, is that like he's asking
- 1:04:45important, there's a way to do this.
- 1:04:46You can ask the important questions like how are we going
- 1:04:48to survive? What are we going to eat?
- 1:04:50What about electricity? You know, you can ask all of
- 1:04:51these, but he's doing it in the asshole.
- 1:04:53We're like, oh, are we supposed to survive off of hog lumps?
- 1:04:57Yeah. Oh hey, we've got some food
- 1:05:00here. This will last us, but we need
- 1:05:01to come up with a more long term like there's a way to go about
- 1:05:04it. Oh, Liz has the best response.
- 1:05:06She's like, look, fucking David, shut up.
- 1:05:08Like we have to make the best of this moment because this is
- 1:05:12where we are. Now, yeah, is that we're here.
- 1:05:14Yeah, so he's like throwing the snacks around and he throws one
- 1:05:18of the pack of nuts and then Sean catches it and he's like,
- 1:05:21hey, what's up, everybody? Corn Nuts.
- 1:05:25Corn nuts. So yeah.
- 1:05:26So then they're just kind of sitting in the dark.
- 1:05:30I do like this moment, though. We're like, Dave has to be kind
- 1:05:34of like, gross and homophobic and also, like, derogatory.
- 1:05:38And he was like, oh, we're just here because your boyfriend
- 1:05:41dragged us here. And he goes, he's not my
- 1:05:42boyfriend. And then Ed brings him over
- 1:05:44here. He goes.
- 1:05:44It's a little warm. He goes, thanks, babe.
- 1:05:46Yeah. I like that too, it's really
- 1:05:48funny. And I like that as a response
- 1:05:49because it is like being just very comfortable around your
- 1:05:51best friend, yeah. Yeah, it was really funny.
- 1:05:54So yeah, they they're under the impression that the power's out,
- 1:05:56but then it's wait enough and then all the street lights come
- 1:05:59on. So they know that the grid's
- 1:06:00not. Yeah.
- 1:06:01So like, it's just a fuse then. So just need to go flip the
- 1:06:03Breakers, just not the mains. That way the lights don't come
- 1:06:06on and we don't advertise that we're in here.
- 1:06:08So he goes back and he's flipping some of the Breakers
- 1:06:10and he looks outside and realizes that the zombies had
- 1:06:13followed him to the back door. And he comes out and he's trying
- 1:06:16to tell Liz. And she's like, I thought you
- 1:06:18gave him the slip. And he's like, and because
- 1:06:23they're trying to flip through the channels, nothing is
- 1:06:25broadcasting at all. Just says standby.
- 1:06:28And so Liz is distracted. Ed asks for a quid.
- 1:06:31I don't know how much that's worth, but apparently it's
- 1:06:34enough for a an arcade game. Maybe a coin?
- 1:06:38Is that y'all's coin over there? I don't know.
- 1:06:42So they're like all distracted and talking about what they're
- 1:06:45gonna do, and then all of a sudden this arcade game powers
- 1:06:47up and it's so fucking. Bad, Yeah.
- 1:06:49They freak out, they unplug it, but it's too late because it's
- 1:06:53so much noise out there. Yeah.
- 1:06:56And also while this has happened.
- 1:07:00The owner, John. Yeah, John has stumbled out and.
- 1:07:04He's. Attacking them now, Yeah.
- 1:07:06Sean tells David to go to the fuse box to try and turn on the
- 1:07:10fuses, but he doesn't know what the fuck he's doing.
- 1:07:13He just slams them all on. So like, all of the whites
- 1:07:15outside are flickering. It's attracting all the zombies.
- 1:07:18The jukebox has started and it's playing Don't stop me now.
- 1:07:22Yeah, and we just, it's so beautifully choreographed.
- 1:07:27It's nothing like insanely over the top, but it's just really
- 1:07:29like they're beating John up with these pool cues and they're
- 1:07:32like the music is lining up. So, well, it's so good the.
- 1:07:35Flickering the the people outside, it's just, it's
- 1:07:38amazing. It's.
- 1:07:39Amazing. And it ends with them throwing
- 1:07:42John into the jukebox and killing the music.
- 1:07:46So they grab the rifle from above the bar.
- 1:07:48This is Ed's big plan, and it turns out the rifle is real.
- 1:07:51It's loaded and it actually shoots like immediately, like it
- 1:07:54misfires, which is weird that the rival would be loaded up
- 1:07:58there, but whatever. So their plan is that they're
- 1:08:00going to fight the zombies who are trying to come in through
- 1:08:02the window. Liz is taking Barbara to the
- 1:08:04back to try and keep her safe. And she's like, I'm so glad we
- 1:08:07finally met. I want to give you this.
- 1:08:09Sean's father gave it to me, his real father.
- 1:08:12And she goes, well, you don't need to do this.
- 1:08:13And Barbara feels that she's been fit and she goes.
- 1:08:15I just, I thought it would upset Sean.
- 1:08:17Yeah, Also, I like how nobody's actually a good shot that's so
- 1:08:22real because, yeah, you would think like, oh, a zombie movie,
- 1:08:25they got a gun all right, headshot score.
- 1:08:27But now, like they're just missing everybody.
- 1:08:29And I like it because that's that's more realistic.
- 1:08:32Everybody thinks that they'd be amazing shot in a situation that
- 1:08:35calls for you, and most people wouldn't.
- 1:08:36That's just hard. It doesn't matter how close you
- 1:08:38are to them. So yeah, everybody just kind of
- 1:08:40goes over there to be with Sean and Barbara.
- 1:08:44She's saying her goodbyes to Sean.
- 1:08:46He's crying over her and she dies.
- 1:08:48And David immediately has the gun and is ready to shoot.
- 1:08:51And so it turns into this, like, standoff moment because Sean
- 1:08:55breaks the bottle and holds it up to Dave, and he goes, don't
- 1:08:57shoot my mom. And then Ed breaks the bottle.
- 1:09:00He goes, don't shoot Barbara. And Diane's like, well, this
- 1:09:03hardly seems fair. And.
- 1:09:05He hands. Her the bottle and grabs a quick
- 1:09:07scream. So they're all just like facing
- 1:09:09off at each other. And this is where they're like
- 1:09:10all kind of like arguing and and I call out David for being in
- 1:09:13love with Liz. And even Diane's like, yeah, you
- 1:09:16very obviously are. He always has like the answer
- 1:09:19where you can tell he's lying. I was like, I don't know what
- 1:09:21you're talking about. Yeah, what?
- 1:09:24I know Liz who I don't. I'm not even sure her name's
- 1:09:29Liz. Yeah, it's such bullshit.
- 1:09:34It's so sad, too. She's like, yeah, I know that
- 1:09:36you only hung her around me because you wanted to be with
- 1:09:39Liz, and then I was there to fall back on whenever that
- 1:09:42didn't happen. It's like it's getting real.
- 1:09:46So eventually Liz is like, listen, David's a twat, not
- 1:09:51denying that. However, your mom is about to
- 1:09:53turn into a zombie, so Shonda shoot her when she turns.
- 1:09:57That's rough, David. I didn't write down what he
- 1:10:01said, but I just wrote Dick move David.
- 1:10:03I feel, I feel like a moment like that probably has to give
- 1:10:07him some like even more remorse considering the aftermath of the
- 1:10:14outbreak. How they all, I guess,
- 1:10:15especially him with Ed, he keeps him there as a friend and then
- 1:10:19they're using all these zombies all the time anyways because
- 1:10:21they still have that human element to them.
- 1:10:23Yeah. Oh God.
- 1:10:25Yeah, it's, it's a, it's a tough thing.
- 1:10:28So yeah, like David's just kind of alienated himself from the
- 1:10:31group. And then he's like, all right,
- 1:10:33well, I'm gonna run out and dies.
- 1:10:35Like, that would be a very, very silly thing to do.
- 1:10:40And yeah, and then he gets grabbed by zombies through the
- 1:10:44window and he gets. True.
- 1:10:46Support. 2 shreds. Two shreds you say?
- 1:10:50Yes, it's very trash in Return of the Living Dead.
- 1:10:53Sorry. It's hard not to make those
- 1:10:54comparisons when we just watched it a couple days ago.
- 1:10:57True. But man, like, I mean, it's one
- 1:11:00of the more satisfying depths in this movie because they rip into
- 1:11:03his guts. They pull them all out.
- 1:11:06They rip off his head, his arms, and then Diane.
- 1:11:09Diane actually rips his leg off. And then she she runs out
- 1:11:13because even though he's dead, she still like, wants to save
- 1:11:16him and she's fighting zombies. With his leg.
- 1:11:18Yeah. Just like bashing.
- 1:11:19Yeah, she's dead. She doesn't stand a chance.
- 1:11:22So it's just Ed, Sean and Liz. They stuck behind the bar.
- 1:11:28Yeah, the front door pops open. They've got that coming.
- 1:11:31The side door pops open. Pete comes in.
- 1:11:34Him and some other zombies bite Ed, and so Sean shoots Pete.
- 1:11:40They get Ed behind the bar. They pour liquor on the bar top
- 1:11:45and set it on fire. So it's a nice little like fire
- 1:11:47barricade, except he forgot that the shotgun shells were still on
- 1:11:50the counter. So those get heated up and start
- 1:11:52shooting off. He also forgot that there's just
- 1:11:54like a little gate door on the side and Caucus idle maniac
- 1:12:00opens it up and starts coming behind the bar.
- 1:12:02So they climb down the Hatch into the cellar and they don't
- 1:12:06have much time because the zombies are trying to get in
- 1:12:09there, but the door leading out to the street is locked so they
- 1:12:13don't know what they're going to do.
- 1:12:15They, Liz and Sean, are about to have one last cigarette together
- 1:12:19when they see the like supply lift and they're going to use
- 1:12:23that to get out and they're trying to get Ed to get up.
- 1:12:26And he was like, what? I'll just slow you down.
- 1:12:29Again, he got bit in the neck. That's a that's a fatal place no
- 1:12:33matter what. And.
- 1:12:33He goes, I'm sorry, Sean. I like how they're like they're
- 1:12:38making up and they're becoming a couple again.
- 1:12:40And then like they're talking about like we only have two
- 1:12:43bullets left. And then she's like, oh, Sean
- 1:12:45was like, I guess I could take a bunch of them out.
- 1:12:46They all stand in a line and she's like, I wasn't talking
- 1:12:48about them. And then like, well, what about
- 1:12:51us? And he's like, I'll be all
- 1:12:53right. And then as they're like
- 1:12:55building their relationship up again, you can hear him off to
- 1:12:57the side, like actually, I'll take, I'll take one of those
- 1:12:59shells. Yeah, so he farts as his like
- 1:13:03parting goodbye to Sean. That's a fitting goodbye.
- 1:13:06It is. And he says I'll stop doing it
- 1:13:08when you stop laughing. So they take the lift up and
- 1:13:12they're all on the street and they're trying to figure out how
- 1:13:15they're going to fight when all of a sudden an armored truck
- 1:13:17pulls up. It arrives, Yvonne's on there
- 1:13:19and she said they're taking us to safety.
- 1:13:22Yeah. So we cut three months later.
- 1:13:24Six months, Six months. Oh yeah, the news says the
- 1:13:27original storyboard. I know where you got that from,
- 1:13:29the original storyboard. So three months later.
- 1:13:31But the final cut is the news anchor saying six months ago we
- 1:13:35had Z Day. Weird change.
- 1:13:36Yeah, I guess it makes more sense that gives them more time
- 1:13:39to implement like zombie sports. And I guess that's true, yeah.
- 1:13:43OK, so yeah, I like you get to see TV.
- 1:13:46There's like this new story. I could totally see this stuff
- 1:13:49happening. It's like this little 10 year
- 1:13:51old kid had to kill his whole family.
- 1:13:53It's like a kid with a barrel of the gun like down the camera.
- 1:13:56That's. One of those dramatic
- 1:13:57reenactments, too. Yeah, it's really funny.
- 1:14:00And then they got, like, sports. And it's like all kinds of news
- 1:14:03broadcasts talking about how they're just used to, like, do
- 1:14:07mundane jobs. So they're basically like the AI
- 1:14:12of this universe here. And then Ed says he's going to
- 1:14:16pop out in the garden for a minute and he's or Sean says
- 1:14:19he's going to pop out in the garden for a minute.
- 1:14:20He's got Ed in the shed and they just play video games together.
- 1:14:23Yeah, that was nice. Like he like it was a good
- 1:14:26reveal. He pops in the shed and then
- 1:14:28it's just like player 2 join and it's just Ed.
- 1:14:31He tries to eat them. Yeah.
- 1:14:32For a second, but then he's like, hey, hey, the fucking
- 1:14:34game. Then that's like, Oh yeah, so
- 1:14:36you just start playing. Just like you with Zoe.
- 1:14:38Yeah, pretty much. Yeah.
- 1:14:40It is exactly like Zoe. Zoe could be a zombie.
- 1:14:42Yeah. So that's how the movie ends.
- 1:14:46I say it's still a 10 out of 10. I do too.
- 1:14:48This movie's awesome. I fucking love it.
- 1:14:50All right. I think we've already
- 1:14:52established that there is not really anything we wanna change.
- 1:14:57Well, I mean, I guess I could say like, I don't know.
- 1:15:06No, not really. But I guess I wouldn't hate it
- 1:15:08if the zombies were more menacing.
- 1:15:12OK. You know.
- 1:15:14I think maybe him having a little bit more of a moment with
- 1:15:16Phillip, not directly on his deathbed.
- 1:15:19Yeah, Yeah. I guess that's true.
- 1:15:22But I feel like that makes it a little bit more impactful when
- 1:15:26that happens like that. Yeah.
- 1:15:28Then I don't know. Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:15:30There's not. I mean, that's the thing.
- 1:15:32There's not a lot that I would want to change with this movie.
- 1:15:34It's just like, it's so good as it is, yeah.
- 1:15:37What would you want as a sequel? Oh dream sequel dude.
- 1:15:41I don't know if I would ever want a sequel to this, but if
- 1:15:44there ever were one. I want, and I was thinking of
- 1:15:48this as we're talking about the ending.
- 1:15:51I want kind of like this meets the Gordon storyline and Nope
- 1:15:57because I want to see some of the zombies like if they're used
- 1:16:00as like extras and actors or whatever in movies and then like
- 1:16:04one gets loose and it reignites the outbreak.
- 1:16:07Oh, so you're like wanting like, not with any of our characters,
- 1:16:11like a spin off. Yeah, yeah, yeah, like loosely
- 1:16:14tied sequel. I wouldn't be mad if we saw
- 1:16:16Simon Peck again. I he could game.
- 1:16:19You see, there was a thing that I was thinking of too, where he
- 1:16:23could like he's still trying to figure out what he wants to do
- 1:16:26because clearly he doesn't want the job that he wants.
- 1:16:29And then he sees an Ave. to like use Ed as like one of the
- 1:16:34entertainment things there. So.
- 1:16:36Becomes like Ed's manager maybe. Yeah, something like that.
- 1:16:39Like him and Ed are like a duo, like maybe they do like a
- 1:16:42competition together. Like they go into like a reality
- 1:16:45show where they like are like in a competition, they have to do
- 1:16:49like certain events together and.
- 1:16:51Yeah. It could be something like that.
- 1:16:54Like The Amazing Race or? Something Oh my God I want to
- 1:16:58see a zombie version of The Amazing Race.
- 1:17:00Are you kidding me dude? All the game shows, I want to
- 1:17:02see a zombie survivor. Dude, that would be a great
- 1:17:06show. You go to the island and there's
- 1:17:08zombies there. Can you imagine those zombies
- 1:17:10survivor like on your tribe? Like when people start getting
- 1:17:13really hungry and those zombies are like just trying to eat the
- 1:17:16the humans. Yeah, that's why I want to watch
- 1:17:19it. I feel like it would be awesome
- 1:17:20but. Is Jeff Probst still human or is
- 1:17:23he undead in this version of Survivor?
- 1:17:27He's human. He's got to be human.
- 1:17:29Yeah, but you get like some of the the favourites, like Boston
- 1:17:34Rob is like a zombie now. Zombie Rob is what they call
- 1:17:38him. Yes, I love it.
- 1:17:41Or Zob. If you will, that's.
- 1:17:43What we're going to start calling Zoe.
- 1:17:45Zab. Yeah.
- 1:17:48OK. So we got two ideas there.
- 1:17:50That we we didn't probably murder ideas in a way.
- 1:17:53Like maybe they do a cameo, so maybe there's like a side by
- 1:17:56Side Story. Yeah.
- 1:17:58Yeah, I don't know. We we could.
- 1:18:00Because if they're getting into the entertainment industry, then
- 1:18:02this leads into the zombies as like actors.
- 1:18:06Type thing. Yeah, True.
- 1:18:07Yeah. All right, cool.
- 1:18:08We got something. All right.
- 1:18:12What did Talia think of this? Well, as we established she had
- 1:18:17her play bucket of popcorn, yes, got very excited.
- 1:18:21Played around with that as Ed did.
- 1:18:24She likes to fart. She related to Ed Hardy.
- 1:18:28And she said I will stop doing it when you stop laughing.
- 1:18:31She also deals weed to the asshole.
- 1:18:36So I think Talia, I think Talia's gonna give this A10.
- 1:18:41I think she had a good time with it.
- 1:18:43OK, I can accept that. Zoe's ultimate warrior.
- 1:18:50Zoe's ultimate warrior, I think, is Pete, because Pete eventually
- 1:18:57made it out of that bathtub despite the shower curtain being
- 1:19:00in the way. Oh yeah.
- 1:19:02He ended up tracking it down. He got his target.
- 1:19:05Yeah. He wanted to fuck add up.
- 1:19:07That was his human element that was still intact with him.
- 1:19:11He's like, I'm a zombie, but I'm fucking him off.
- 1:19:15Yeah. Fuck that guy.
- 1:19:16I saw where you wrote that. I was a prick on my back.
- 1:19:21Oh, that's funny. OK, tagline.
- 1:19:32Adulthood bites. No, that's not too bad.
- 1:19:36That's pretty good. I think it would just be really
- 1:19:39funny to just have the tag on me.
- 1:19:42Sorry, Philip. Sorry, Philip.
- 1:19:44Sorry, Philip. Just like put it in parentheses
- 1:19:47and real tiny. Yeah, I like that.
- 1:19:51Just sorry, Philip. Yeah, OK.
- 1:19:52Yeah. OK.
- 1:19:56What is next for us? We have interview.
- 1:20:01Oh, yeah. Who did we relate to?
- 1:20:03That's right. God, I feel like we're kind of
- 1:20:04out of order with this stuff here.
- 1:20:11Do you know who yours is? I'd say that I probably relate
- 1:20:23to man. I'd say I probably relate to
- 1:20:29Pete because I'm also grumpy if I'm woken up at 4:00 in the
- 1:20:32morning. Yeah, I was thinking about that
- 1:20:35too. That was one of the things that
- 1:20:36I related to the most. There was him having that
- 1:20:39outburst that like loud roommates.
- 1:20:43I've never really had to deal with that.
- 1:20:44I I've had bad roommates. You do kick Zoe out of the
- 1:20:48bedroom when she's being really loud at like 4 in the.
- 1:20:51Morning. You're right.
- 1:20:52Yeah, that is that is a lot like that.
- 1:20:55God, I guess we've that is sad that we both relate to Pete of
- 1:20:59all. Of the yeah, because we're the
- 1:21:01like, we're the adults. This is a movie about a dude
- 1:21:03having to learn to grow up. I feel like I have like actually
- 1:21:06taken Zoe to the side and be like get your shit together.
- 1:21:10Yeah, no, I've definitely seen you like cradle her and be like,
- 1:21:14listen, you need to, you need to calm the fuck.
- 1:21:16Down that's the difference I do it with love.
- 1:21:18I try you know actually I feel like I'm going to relate to Sean
- 1:21:22then with at that scene in the backyard when he pushes the
- 1:21:27zombie that he thinks is drunk because like Zoe has been trying
- 1:21:30to get my food lately. I don't have to like give her
- 1:21:32like a little push back, like hey, get back a little bit and
- 1:21:34she kind of stumbles back like that sometimes.
- 1:21:37But she's a cat. She's a little bit more graceful
- 1:21:38than a zombie. So or she could be a zombie.
- 1:21:41I still don't know yet. It's pretty still out.
- 1:21:43But I relate to that moment there because I've had to do
- 1:21:45that and she's had to do that exact same stumbled back a few
- 1:21:47times. OK, all right, time for reviews.
- 1:21:52OK, so obviously I knew that we both love this one.
- 1:21:56Yes, we watch this one all the time so.
- 1:21:59So I've got a one star IMDb review.
- 1:22:03Oh no. Rated one out of 10.
- 1:22:07Really. 8 out of 10 Are people insane or what?
- 1:22:11That's the title of the review. This is 2015.
- 1:22:15They reviewed this. What I can't understand is why
- 1:22:18this movie is so overrated. There is nothing in the movie to
- 1:22:21laugh at at all. To laugh at at all.
- 1:22:24I guess there are so lame and childish kind of jokes that I
- 1:22:29hardly even laugh in the whole movie.
- 1:22:31This movie is actually a disrespectful or a disrespect to
- 1:22:36all of the zombie movies out there.
- 1:22:39And one idiotic end to the movie you would be like Oh my God what
- 1:22:43have I just watched even though the genre is comedy.
- 1:22:45But really this movie is clearly an insult to the zombie films.
- 1:22:49I mean come on, even if you're making a zombie spoof, make it
- 1:22:51at least tolerable. Save your time and money and
- 1:22:54watch some real zombie movies like 28 days slash Weeks later.
- 1:22:57Or just watch Walking Dead rather than watching this.
- 1:23:00Usually don't write reviews but this movie made me write one.
- 1:23:03Such a poor comedy and direction.
- 1:23:05I don't know why people are giving it so much.
- 1:23:07Rating is so high. The movie has such a lousy start
- 1:23:11and there's nothing so half the time and zombies are such like
- 1:23:15they would walk like I guess slow.
- 1:23:18They would walk like snails. I don't fucking know.
- 1:23:20This guy's got some weird writing here.
- 1:23:24I don't even know what story is in the movie.
- 1:23:27Other zombies which are also poorly made.
- 1:23:30Even for a comedy movie, this movie fucking sucks big time.
- 1:23:33Jesus Christ. OK, you need to learn how to
- 1:23:35type your thoughts out a little bit better.
- 1:23:37Too. Definitely.
- 1:23:38We're doing voice to text. I bet you're right.
- 1:23:41Yeah, voice to text on an IMDb review?
- 1:23:44Come on. Well, they don't normally write
- 1:23:46reviews, you're right. And they still don't.
- 1:23:49Yeah. Mitch Hedberg right there.
- 1:23:51Yeah, Oh my God, you're right. They didn't write it.
- 1:23:53Like, OK, I get it, this movie, it's not scary, but I think it's
- 1:23:58a fun take on the zombie genre. And clearly King of Zombies
- 1:24:02himself agrees. So.
- 1:24:04But I mean, yeah, if you're going for a scary zombie movie,
- 1:24:08this isn't the one you're going to reach.
- 1:24:09For no, don't go through this if you want like an actual like,
- 1:24:12watch this. For like, if you've watched a
- 1:24:15lot zombie movies and you're gonna laugh at it like that
- 1:24:18because it's a spoof on those movies basically.
- 1:24:20Yeah, You know, I, I don't think a movie is a bad movie just
- 1:24:27because, granted, that's the whole point of our show, just
- 1:24:30because you don't get it. But this is a prime example.
- 1:24:33If it's not a bad movie, it's just not what you look for in a
- 1:24:36zombie movie. Yeah, true.
- 1:24:40OK, so we got some listener reviews.
- 1:24:42OK, First off, we got Amber. Oh, yay.
- 1:24:46Yeah, she's Amber. She just says.
- 1:24:48I just love this movie. Turn off 10.
- 1:24:50Beautiful. It's a fucking song, yeah.
- 1:24:54We have Marnie who just says yay with a Purple Heart.
- 1:24:57I think she loves this movie too.
- 1:24:59And Lord Zombie who is a zombie so let's see what he has to say
- 1:25:03on this. Oh my goodness where do I start?
- 1:25:06As a fan of zombies, I love this one.
- 1:25:09The edit cuts, the references, the humor, Great one from start
- 1:25:12to finish. I am always up to watch this
- 1:25:14one. Fuck yeah that's like same
- 1:25:16points that we made too. Like the edit cuts the
- 1:25:18references humor. Everything about this movie is
- 1:25:21just fun. It really is, man.
- 1:25:23It's just like if you appreciate the genre.
- 1:25:26It's fun and it's well done. It is.
- 1:25:28It's so well. Put the It's done by a group of
- 1:25:30people who are like masters in their craft.
- 1:25:35Yeah. And that's like one of those
- 1:25:36interesting things to for it to be such an early movie, like,
- 1:25:39yeah, that's like one of those things where you can tell, oh,
- 1:25:41this guy was just good. Yeah.
- 1:25:43These guys were just really good at what they do.
- 1:25:46And then you give them more of a budget and you're like, oh,
- 1:25:48shit, They really are good. Because, like, Edgar Wright, I
- 1:25:53didn't hate last night, so it's OK.
- 1:25:55But like all of his other movies, I fucking love that I've
- 1:25:58seen of his. Like he's just like.
- 1:26:00Scott Pilgrim is one of your favorite.
- 1:26:01Scott Pilgrim is so good. Not even horror but God damn
- 1:26:04that movie is amazing. And for all the reasons I said,
- 1:26:07I love this movie too. He just fucking kills it.
- 1:26:09Yeah, soundtrack editing humor. Yeah.
- 1:26:13And all of those things, Yeah. OK.
- 1:26:16So those are reviews. OK.
- 1:26:18So thank you guys for sending those in.
- 1:26:20We always appreciate those. And I think that's it for this
- 1:26:25week's episode. That is.
- 1:26:27So what do we got on the menu next week?
