- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:29So today and for this week, we are going to be talking about
- 0:33gratitude in different forms because you know, Thanksgiving
- 0:37is here. It's a time when we're supposed
- 0:38to be grateful and for some time, some of us, it's very
- 0:41tough sometimes. As I've stated before, this is a
- 0:44very interesting, I'll use that term time of the season.
- 0:48For me, because of my loss of my dad over this particular holiday
- 0:53and this being his favorite holiday, it has always been very
- 0:55challenging for me to navigate it.
- 0:58And I try to put on a good face, but sometimes it's very
- 1:01challenging. So I thought, well, why don't we
- 1:04talk about all of this over the course of this week.
- 1:07So this week it's gratitude. And today's the first thing that
- 1:10we're talking about is the foundations of gratitude and how
- 1:13we build them because it's not something that we inherently
- 1:17have built into us. I mean, we want to believe that
- 1:21we are all born and we're just grateful.
- 1:23But the hard wiring that comes with us when we first arrived
- 1:26here is all just about getting our needs met.
- 1:28And as I mean, anybody who's been around an infant knows, all
- 1:31they care about is getting their needs met.
- 1:33And if they're not being met, what happens?
- 1:35They scream, they cry, they go through lots of anguish, and
- 1:38they put out a lot of energy that makes us feel very like in
- 1:43that reactive state to try to calm them down.
- 1:46And oftentimes it's very, very challenging.
- 1:50And we even even as we are grateful for them, we love them.
- 1:54We all wanted to have them. They're here with us.
- 1:57We're like, Oh my God, this is so hard.
- 1:59And then you start thinking about how that moves forward in
- 2:02our lives. Well, as human beings, it is
- 2:06very much to our benefit to acknowledge that we have to
- 2:09cultivate gratitude. We have to think about gratitude
- 2:13because it's not something that's just hard wired into us.
- 2:16We have to learn it. It is a learned behavior.
- 2:20So where does it all begin? Now, if you're a regular
- 2:24practitioner of this podcast, you know, I talk about moment to
- 2:27moment gratitude where I use my camera on my phone and I take
- 2:31pictures of finding things that I'm grateful for throughout the
- 2:33day. The smallest of small things to
- 2:36the bigger things. The chickens being a big part of
- 2:39my gratitude practice because I just love the fact that they're
- 2:42just so interesting and unique and they all have their own
- 2:45personalities and just feels good for me.
- 2:47Now, some people would think the worst thing in the whole world
- 2:50was being grateful chicken coop, but I'm very different like
- 2:53that. But we all have our own things.
- 2:55Like some people are so grateful to go get their nails done.
- 2:57And to me that's just torturous. I never want to do that again.
- 3:01I've done it, never want to do it again anyway.
- 3:04So building a foundation of it depends on who you are as a
- 3:09person and how you think. And it's really discerning and
- 3:13checking in with yourself and saying, well, do I have a
- 3:17foundation of gratitude? Meaning do I have that ability
- 3:22to look for it every day? Am I actually seeking it every
- 3:25single day? Now I can tell you point blank,
- 3:29if I did not have this camera that I've attached my gratitude
- 3:33to, I would have a very hard time doing it every day.
- 3:37Now you made me. Wondering why is she saying
- 3:39that? Because you know of what I
- 3:41teach. But I remember when I first
- 3:43started this process about having to have a gratitude list
- 3:46and everyone said you sit down in the morning and you make your
- 3:48gratitude list and then you sit down in the evening and you
- 3:50write your gratitude list. And for me, it just became a
- 3:53task. It became just like doing
- 3:55laundry. It's a task.
- 3:56You check it off your box, but you're not emotionally connected
- 3:59to it. And it was just get it done.
- 4:03But there was number no feeling there was number congruent take
- 4:07away that I could say every day did it.
- 4:10And of course, if there was a day and there was something
- 4:13enormous and I could say, Oh yeah, I'm grateful for that,
- 4:16then yes, I could use. That but for the.
- 4:18Most part everyday life. Oh, that became really
- 4:21difficult. So I, I had to come up with a
- 4:24way around it. And that's how the camera
- 4:26situation was born. And just for anyone who doesn't
- 4:29know, I use my camera. I walk around with my iPhone all
- 4:32day while I'm coaching and I just take pictures of things
- 4:34that catch my eye, things that I see that I can say I'm grateful
- 4:38for, like a pretty flower, little bugs, great shots of the
- 4:42chickens, waiting on things because I'm hyper visual.
- 4:45So I use the visuals as part of that process and that works for
- 4:49me. Now there are other things that
- 4:52people do like sound wise, people will say, oh, can you
- 4:55hear that? And they'll.
- 4:56Record things or they catch a bit of music and they record
- 4:59that little bit of music or they'll get a song.
- 5:02Like I have one client who loves to say I have a song theme for
- 5:05every day. So I hear a good song and then
- 5:07I'll say, oh, that's my song for the day.
- 5:09And at the end of the day, they replay that song and that's like
- 5:12kind of like they're moment of gratitude.
- 5:14Doesn't matter what it is, but it's foundational.
- 5:17So I'm going to suggest that you.
- 5:19Build out. What is your version of the
- 5:21foundation day one? What is your version of the
- 5:24foundational piece? And then we will build on it
- 5:27tomorrow. All right, my friends, I hope
- 5:29you have a blessed day and I will see you then.
- 5:31Bye.
