Speaker 3: Coming up this morning.
1:47
Speaker 6: A little bit later on Republican Strategists, the head of
1:49
Speaker 6: Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse in West Virginia, Greg Thomas, will
1:53
Speaker 6: join us, always entertaining when mister Thomas is in the house.
1:56
Speaker 6: We're going to talk about the first week or so
1:59
Speaker 6: of the Trump and Morrissey administrations with Greg Thomas. There
2:03
Speaker 6: are some news broke late yesterday evening that we now
2:07
Speaker 6: have a new member of the State Senate, and that
2:10
Speaker 6: is in the eighth Senatorial district. Kevin Bartlett, who's a
2:12
Speaker 6: former House of Delegates member, was appointed to that seat
2:16
Speaker 6: over a couple of other folks.
2:18
Speaker 3: He was appointed by the governor.
2:20
Speaker 6: And I talked to Kevin Bartlett last night and he'll
2:23
Speaker 6: be making his return to the legislature, it looks like
2:25
Speaker 6: this time in the Senate, and I'm working to have
2:27
Speaker 6: him on the show with us on Monday if the
2:29
Speaker 6: schedule works out, so he'll be on the show on Monday,
2:31
Speaker 6: so Greg and I will spend a little bit of
2:32
Speaker 6: time talking about that. Also, Tim Brady from the Charleston
2:35
Speaker 6: Convention of Visitors Bureau is going to be stopping by.
2:38
Speaker 6: You may have seen the story and we reported on
2:40
Speaker 6: over the weekend that with the success of the bike
2:44
Speaker 6: road races that were held in Charleston last May, and
2:48
Speaker 6: it was an overwhelming success, they're kind of jumping on
2:51
Speaker 6: this within the city of Charleston, specifically with the CVB
2:54
Speaker 6: and possibly calling it Bike City USA. What does Tim
2:58
Speaker 6: Brady think about that. We'll talk to him about that
3:00
Speaker 6: coming up. Excuse me a little bit later on the show.
3:02
Speaker 6: Plus it's always your calls and text to welcome to
3:04
Speaker 6: Bigley Pickli Wiggly Hotline three zero four three four five
3:07
Speaker 6: fifty eight fifty eight. Tony the Taylor Text three zero
3:10
Speaker 6: four nine three five five zero zero eight. Normally at
3:14
Speaker 6: this time we'd have Hannah Gardner from the Canal Charleston
3:17
Speaker 6: Humane Association with this week's Adopt Me Please Pet of
3:19
Speaker 6: the Week. Hannah at the last moment kind of got
3:22
Speaker 6: called away. She had some stuff going on up there
3:25
Speaker 6: at the shelter, some volunteer stuff that they had to
3:27
Speaker 6: do with some stuff with the volunteers, I guess, So
3:29
Speaker 6: she was unable to make it on the show this morning.
3:32
Speaker 6: So the part of Hannah Gardner will be played by
3:35
Speaker 6: producer Mat Guitar Murphy.
3:36
Speaker 3: How's that sound, Murphy, I.
3:38
Speaker 7: Tell you what, I'm just excited because of the name
3:41
Speaker 7: of this dog. I want to find out what do
3:43
Speaker 7: I have to do to get into the naming department
3:46
Speaker 7: at the Humane Association up there.
3:47
Speaker 6: I was talking to one of our folks out front
3:49
Speaker 6: about this and they say that, and I asked Hanna
3:51
Speaker 6: this one time, I said, you have so many animals
3:53
Speaker 6: at one time? And they can't all be named Fluffy
3:56
Speaker 6: or Spot or something like that, so they come across
3:59
Speaker 6: with some interesting name. This week's pet of the week
4:03
Speaker 6: is named corn cob And if you want to see
4:05
Speaker 6: Corn Cobb's picture, Corn Cobbs pictures posted is always on
4:08
Speaker 6: my social media it's Dave Allen Radio and at Dave
4:11
Speaker 6: a seventy on X. The artist formerly known as Twitter
4:15
Speaker 6: corn Cob Murphy is a good looking dog.
4:17
Speaker 7: Yeah, I kind of got that brindle coat going on there.
4:20
Speaker 7: Apparently a real playful boy. But he is definitely a
4:24
Speaker 7: good looking dog. A one year old, neutered already apparently
4:29
Speaker 7: is already ready for fostering if you're interested in that
4:32
Speaker 7: type of thing. A very playful dog. So it sounds
4:36
Speaker 7: like the perfect dog for maybe some kids in the
4:41
Speaker 7: family there. But yeah, he's a good looking pup.
4:43
Speaker 6: Yeah he is, indeed, And as you said, he seems
4:46
Speaker 6: to be kid friendly. They always urge caution, but it
4:48
Speaker 6: seems to be kid friendly. He is a candidate for foster,
4:51
Speaker 6: as you mentioned, tends to be a little shy at first,
4:53
Speaker 6: but will open up quickly.
4:54
Speaker 4: Now.
4:55
Speaker 6: It's got an interesting story because he came in as
4:58
Speaker 6: a stray and had parvo but he has been fully
5:02
Speaker 6: nursed back to health.
5:02
Speaker 3: He's one hundred percent ready to go.
5:04
Speaker 6: He was adopted once before and was brought back, and
5:07
Speaker 6: he wasn't brought back because of anything that he did.
5:10
Speaker 6: It just happened that the people that adopted him. From
5:12
Speaker 6: one Handah tells me their living arrangements changed and they
5:16
Speaker 6: could no longer take care of the dog, so unfortunately
5:18
Speaker 6: they had to bring him back. So he's brought back
5:19
Speaker 6: through no fault of his own. So go take a
5:23
Speaker 6: look at corn Cob and I am happy to report
5:26
Speaker 6: that Murphy. Last week we had Maxine was our dog.
5:29
Speaker 6: Last week, Maxine got adopted this week.
5:32
Speaker 7: Oh that's good to hear.
5:33
Speaker 3: Maxine was so cute too.
5:34
Speaker 6: Yeah, Maxine has now got a loving, loving home. A
5:36
Speaker 6: couple of other things going on at the shelter. And
5:40
Speaker 6: you may and by the way, always always give them
5:42
Speaker 6: props for what they do in their social media.
5:44
Speaker 8: They have.
5:44
Speaker 3: They run a great, great Facebook page.
5:48
Speaker 6: They had a mama dog that was dropped off with
5:50
Speaker 6: several several puppies and it looked like that the mama
5:55
Speaker 6: was having a hard time caring for them. So they
5:58
Speaker 6: need some things with this particular case. They're asking for
6:01
Speaker 6: some extra small feeding tubes, some puppy formula, some blankets,
6:07
Speaker 6: and some heating pads, because again, when puppies are this small,
6:11
Speaker 6: and I'm not good at guessing ages, but I mean
6:13
Speaker 6: they look like they were a couple of days old,
6:15
Speaker 6: if even that. They're obviously not ready to be adopted
6:18
Speaker 6: out yet, but they need some extra care. So if
6:20
Speaker 6: you can help out the folks at the shelter, they
6:23
Speaker 6: certainly would appreciate that. And again, the complete story about
6:26
Speaker 6: that is posted on their Facebook page. Also, I understand
6:33
Speaker 6: that they had another adoption this week, and Matt this
6:37
Speaker 6: was a dog we had featured a couple of weeks
6:39
Speaker 6: ago by the name of Fergie.
6:41
Speaker 3: Fergie got adopted as well.
6:43
Speaker 4: Good for Fergie.
6:44
Speaker 7: I tell you what, I'm always amazed by what they're
6:46
Speaker 7: able to do up there at the Canachurals and Humane Association.
6:50
Speaker 7: I mean, hundreds of animals literally, and I mean every
6:54
Speaker 7: case is so unique. I mean it's talking about corn Cob,
6:57
Speaker 7: the pet of the week this week, and the parvo
6:59
Speaker 7: pupp the situation there. I mean, these are sometimes very
7:04
Speaker 7: complicated medical situations for these animals, and they managed to
7:08
Speaker 7: get all that taken care of. And get all of
7:10
Speaker 7: these animals ready for adoption. It's just I'm forever impressed
7:13
Speaker 7: with the work they do.
7:14
Speaker 6: Yeah, absolutely, absolutely so again, our dog this week is
7:17
Speaker 6: Corn Cobb. Pictures posted on Dave Island Radio and Facebook
7:20
Speaker 6: and at Dave a seventy on the Twitter machine. One
7:23
Speaker 6: year old male, neutered, microchipped, vaccinated prefers playful dogs, seems
7:28
Speaker 6: to be kid friendly. He is a candidate for foster.
7:30
Speaker 6: And one of the things we always bring up is
7:32
Speaker 6: is sometimes you're living situations maybe you've already got animals,
7:35
Speaker 6: can't take on anymore, but you are willing to foster them.
7:38
Speaker 6: They definitely need fosters up there. So it's just somebody
7:41
Speaker 6: to get the animals out of that traumatic environment as
7:45
Speaker 6: it can be sometime with these animals, get them out
7:47
Speaker 6: of there. And so he's a candidate for foster if
7:50
Speaker 6: you would like. But I mean, based on the picture, Matt,
7:53
Speaker 6: I think if you take a look at this dog
7:54
Speaker 6: and he comes into your home, he's probably gonna stay.
7:57
Speaker 9: Yeah.
7:57
Speaker 7: Absolutely, very good looking pup. And the one thing about
8:00
Speaker 7: the fostering too, I always try to think about people
8:03
Speaker 7: that if you go to a concert and you're stuck
8:05
Speaker 7: around hundreds of people around you, and you feel a
8:08
Speaker 7: little claustrophobic. Imagine being a dog in the shelter around
8:12
Speaker 7: two hundred other dogs that are just barking. How stressful
8:15
Speaker 7: that is. Fostering is a great way to get those
8:18
Speaker 7: animals out of the shelter for a little bit and
8:20
Speaker 7: let them just destress and just really start to actually
8:24
Speaker 7: come into their own selves a little bit. So definitely
8:27
Speaker 7: for the fostering if you're able to do something like that.
8:30
Speaker 3: All right, So Corn Cobb is our pet.
8:32
Speaker 6: Go check out his picture Dave Allan Radio on Facebook
8:35
Speaker 6: or add Dave a seventy on x And let's go
8:39
Speaker 6: get to what we're doing really good with these adoptions here,
8:41
Speaker 6: Like Lou got Maxine adopted last week, so let's go
8:43
Speaker 6: try to get Corn Cob adopted as well. But Dave
8:46

8:52
Speaker 6: little bit later on, Greg Thomas is here and we
8:54
Speaker 6: are also going to spend some time talking about to
8:57
Speaker 6: some things going on within the city of Charleston with
8:59
Speaker 6: Tim Brady from the Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Speaker 3: Tim, good morning, welcome to the show.
11:31
Speaker 4: Good morning Dave, Thanks for having me, Man, thank you
11:33
Speaker 4: for being here.
11:33
Speaker 6: We have through the years, Tim called Charleston a variety
11:36
Speaker 6: of things. Of course, it's a capital city, Charlie West,
11:39
Speaker 6: Chuck Town, but now Bike City USA.
11:42
Speaker 5: So to be clear, we're not trying to rename the city.
11:45
Speaker 3: This is a this is a kit another tag, This
11:47
Speaker 3: is a this is a.
11:48
Speaker 5: Campaign that we've created for a couple of reasons. One,
11:52
Speaker 5: you know, we saw the enthusiasm in the city last
11:55
Speaker 5: year during the USA Cycling Pro National Championships, and we
11:58
Speaker 5: have that event for four more years. It brought four
12:01
Speaker 5: point six million dollars worth of economic activity to our city.
12:04
Speaker 5: It brought increased visitor spending, It got locals out spending money,
12:09
Speaker 5: enthusiastic buying into cycling road racing. But you step back
12:14
Speaker 5: and you look at what Charleston has to offer, and
12:16
Speaker 5: we have this platform for the next four years of
12:18
Speaker 5: having this significant race with a lot of eyeballs, and
12:23
Speaker 5: we want to take advantage of that, and we want
12:24
Speaker 5: to harness the community and enthusiasm when you look at
12:27
Speaker 5: Charleston and you've got somewhere in the neighborhood of one
12:29
Speaker 5: hundred and seventy miles of paved gravel and mountain bike
12:33
Speaker 5: trails all right here in and around Charleston. And then
12:36
Speaker 5: you expand that out and you look at what's happening
12:39
Speaker 5: in places like Putnam County with the Meeks Mountain Trail
12:42
Speaker 5: and increased trail development along the Hatfield. McCoy and I
12:47
Speaker 5: would further say that the ven diagram of people who
12:49
Speaker 5: are into cycling and people who like to kayak, whitewater
12:52
Speaker 5: raft hike is probably a complete circle. So we have
12:56
Speaker 5: all of these assets, let's create something and tell the
12:59
Speaker 5: world that this is the place to come if you
13:01
Speaker 5: want to do those things. So that's where bike City
13:03
Speaker 5: USA comes from. You know, we want to tell the
13:05
Speaker 5: world that if you're into cycling, whether it's road racing,
13:08
Speaker 5: gravel riding, mountain biking BMX, you can do all of
13:12
Speaker 5: that here in Charleston, not only on our trails, but
13:15
Speaker 5: we've got great locally owned bike shops and outfitters. We've
13:18
Speaker 5: got public bike maintenance stations throughout the city. So This
13:22
Speaker 5: is a great place for cyclists to come, but also
13:26
Speaker 5: see live music, public art, great food, all of those
13:30
Speaker 5: things right right here in Charleston. So Bike City USA
13:33
Speaker 5: is this concept that we're creating and producing and amplifying
13:37
Speaker 5: to the world that Charleston is the place to come
13:39
Speaker 5: if you're into those things.
13:40

14:01

14:03
Speaker 6: this past weekend. You can go back in the archives
14:05
Speaker 6: a WV METRONWS dot com and take a look at it.
14:10
Speaker 6: And with this, with the road racing that we had
14:12
Speaker 6: last May tamp that's going to continue in Charleston, as
14:15
Speaker 6: you said, for the next four years.
14:16
Speaker 5: Correct, We've got four more years of the USA Cycling
14:19
Speaker 5: Pro Road National Championships, including another Olympic year in twenty
14:23
Speaker 5: twenty eight, which would be the last year of our
14:25
Speaker 5: current contract. And then we've got some long term vision
14:27
Speaker 5: to spin off and create sustainable cycling events in the
14:31
Speaker 5: city beyond that five year contract. You know the Criteria
14:34
Speaker 5: or what folks in the industry affectionately called the crit
14:38
Speaker 5: the Criterium on Thursday and Friday nights last year, the
14:40
Speaker 5: little one mile circuit around the center of the city
14:45
Speaker 5: hugely popular, great for spectating, getting people out, eating, drinking,
14:50
Speaker 5: having a good time. We want to create a sustained
14:52
Speaker 5: long term crit Series race here in Charleston that would
14:55
Speaker 5: become an annual event. But we want to go beyond
14:57
Speaker 5: just racing and that part of it too. And there's
14:59
Speaker 5: another component to this concept of bikes at a USA,
15:01
Speaker 5: and that is getting people, especially kids, out and active
15:05
Speaker 5: on bikes. We want to work to get more kids
15:08
Speaker 5: on bikes. We partnered with the Charleston cern wil Regatta
15:10
Speaker 5: last year and gave away one hundred bikes to kids
15:13
Speaker 5: from our community who needed new bikes. We're looking at
15:15
Speaker 5: some other programming to get bike curriculum into schools and
15:19
Speaker 5: get kids again on bikes, healthier, learning that there are
15:22
Speaker 5: also opportunities in cycling, whether it be certainly competitive racing,
15:27
Speaker 5: but even as far as like bike maintenance, bike working
15:31
Speaker 5: in a bike shop. There are opportunities. And it might
15:33
Speaker 5: seem small now, but there are opportunities presented by cycling.
15:36
Speaker 5: And again we've got this great four year national platform
15:39
Speaker 5: to start amplifying that message.
15:42
Speaker 3: Refresh my memory a bit, tim What was the economic
15:45
Speaker 3: impact for the city.
15:46
Speaker 5: Four point six last year during USA Cycling's Proto National Championships.
15:50
Speaker 5: And I am bullish in saying that I think it'll
15:54
Speaker 5: increase this year because we went into it last year
15:57
Speaker 5: without a lot of community understanding of what the really was.
16:00
Speaker 6: And you guys were kind of flying blind too, because
16:03
Speaker 6: even though you're great at what you do. I mean,
16:06
Speaker 6: as one of my former coworkers used to say, you
16:08
Speaker 6: don't know what you don't know.
16:09
Speaker 4: That's exactly.
16:09
Speaker 6: So you got your legal pad and you're taking notes,
16:12
Speaker 6: going Okay, this didn't work, this did work, that kind
16:15
Speaker 6: of thing.
16:15
Speaker 5: I carried a little pocket notebook around with me that
16:17
Speaker 5: entire week and it was full by the end of
16:19
Speaker 5: the week. Because you're right, we didn't know what we
16:21
Speaker 5: were doing going into it. We trusted USA Cycling and
16:23
Speaker 5: their production company, Medalist, and they did a great job.
16:27
Speaker 3: They pulled off a great race.
16:28
Speaker 5: We learned a lot. I think the community learned a lot.
16:30
Speaker 5: I think we're going to get more people out. I
16:32
Speaker 5: heard over and over again. Oh, I'm inviting friends and
16:35
Speaker 5: family to come in next year to watch this because
16:37
Speaker 5: this is so cool. So I think we're going to
16:39
Speaker 5: see tourism numbers increase. I think we're going to see
16:42
Speaker 5: more locals out watching this year because now there's a
16:45
Speaker 5: greater understanding in the community of what this is. And again,
16:48
Speaker 5: bringing it right back to we've got this platform, we've
16:51
Speaker 5: got all of this buy in in the community. What
16:54
Speaker 5: can we do to make Charleston a better place? Make
16:56
Speaker 5: our community a better place? While we have this opportunity
17:00
Speaker 5: in front.
17:00
Speaker 3: Of us, let's talk about the Capital Connector project.
17:03
Speaker 6: I know that's something that you folks at the CVB
17:05
Speaker 6: I would think are squarely behind.
17:07
Speaker 5: Certainly, I've written a multitude of support letters for that project.
17:12
Speaker 3: All Right, what is it about this that you likes?
17:14
Speaker 4: Specifically?
17:14
Speaker 5: What's it going to bring the Capital Connector? Yeah, I
17:17
Speaker 5: think it does several things. It's another amenity for visitors.
17:21
Speaker 5: It's something else for us to sell to visitors coming
17:24
Speaker 5: into Charleston. If you're staying at one of the hotels
17:27
Speaker 5: and you bring your bike along, you've got this great
17:30
Speaker 5: now citywide cycling and walking path. That for me the
17:35
Speaker 5: big thing as someone who lives here. Now you have
17:38
Speaker 5: full connectivity from one end of the city to the
17:40
Speaker 5: other with the Capital Connector, and it makes a safer
17:43
Speaker 5: space for cycling and biking along the river front. So
17:47
Speaker 5: the Capital Connector project to me is incredibly important, and
17:53
Speaker 5: again it's just more opportunity for us to sell this
17:57
Speaker 5: city as this bike friendly destination in the mid Atlantic.
18:03
Speaker 6: All right, before we let you go, and I'm gonna
18:06
Speaker 6: have you on several times before we get into the
18:08
Speaker 6: Vincent May, we'll talk about the numbers from the state
18:10
Speaker 6: football championships. We had you on, I think after the
18:13
Speaker 6: show last time. But again, just like with this first time,
18:16
Speaker 6: it was the first time that Charleston hosted it in
18:18
Speaker 6: what twenty twenty years, thirty thirty years or so, came
18:22
Speaker 6: back to Charleston.
18:25
Speaker 3: Overall a big success, I would.
18:26
Speaker 5: Think, enormous success. I don't have the numbers in front
18:30
Speaker 5: of the Night, But I think on average, you can't
18:33
Speaker 5: compare apples to apples with Wheeling because they had three
18:37
Speaker 5: games over those thirty years.
18:38
Speaker 4: We had four games.
18:39
Speaker 5: But if you look at average attendance, average attendance was
18:42
Speaker 5: up about twenty percent. Ticket sales were up. We saw
18:47
Speaker 5: visitor spending in the city up about ten percent that weekend,
18:50
Speaker 5: so we know it was driving visitation. Anecdotally, the saturday
18:54
Speaker 5: that Gomart Ballpark hit their peak record attendance number for
18:57
Speaker 5: Light the Night was the Saturday of the Triple A game,
19:00
Speaker 5: which was Herbert Hoover and Bridgeport, which was the largest
19:02
Speaker 5: crowd that weekend, And we know anecdotally that there were
19:06
Speaker 5: people there in Hoover and Bridgeport gear at the ballpark.
19:10
Speaker 5: My good friend Evan Osborne, the executive director at Capitol Market,
19:14
Speaker 5: had a great weekend for his holiday weekend holiday promotions
19:20
Speaker 5: that weekend. Also Hoover and Bridgeport shirts at Capital Market.
19:23
Speaker 5: So we know that those people were out. Those folks
19:27
Speaker 5: that came to Charleston for those games were out and
19:29
Speaker 5: doing things in our city, which is what we wanted.
19:32
Speaker 5: So again, we're super excited about how football turned out.
19:36
Speaker 5: You know, we got through the weekend without major incident.
19:39
Speaker 5: Everything went off as planned quite frankly, except for some
19:41
Speaker 5: minor issues with the play clocks and a couple of
19:44
Speaker 5: other small things. But it was a great weekend of football.
19:47
Speaker 5: We saw increased attendance, and we saw a lot of
19:50
Speaker 5: community enthusiasm for the Football Championships. And we have to
19:53
Speaker 5: also include Cheer in that because that was also our
19:56
Speaker 5: first time hosting cheer in the last five years, and they,
20:00
Speaker 5: because of some injunctions, happened to be the same weekend.
20:01
Speaker 5: But it was a great weekend and Targe worked out.
20:03
Speaker 4: Yeah.
20:03
Speaker 6: And I said this about last weekend, Tim, I mean
20:06
Speaker 6: last weekend we had the Hunting and Fishing Show going
20:08
Speaker 6: on Friday night. I was at the I was at
20:10
Speaker 6: the Collie Semen Convention Center both Friday and Saturday. But
20:12
Speaker 6: Friday night we had Parker McCollums show, major major country
20:16
Speaker 6: acting Charleston. We had the reds Caravan, very well attended.
20:19
Speaker 6: That was in the theater, and then we had Day
20:22
Speaker 6: one of the Hunting and Fishing Show. And I haven't
20:26
Speaker 6: talked to Jim Straw about that, but I will I
20:28
Speaker 6: would imagine because I was there on Saturday afternoon. You
20:30
Speaker 6: literally there were so many people there for the Hunting
20:33
Speaker 6: and Fishing show Saturday afternoon that you had to walk
20:35
Speaker 6: sideways to be able to get through the crowd. It
20:38
Speaker 6: was the same on Sunday as well. We just keep
20:40
Speaker 6: having more and more of these things like that.
20:42
Speaker 5: And I think, Dave, you've you've brought me around to
20:44
Speaker 5: a topic that I just want to spend a minute on.
20:46
Speaker 5: And I think we've kind of cracked the coat a
20:48
Speaker 5: little bit on something, and that is you know, I
20:50
Speaker 5: think in the old days and in prior you know, generations,
20:54
Speaker 5: people looked at, well, I want to do this event,
20:57
Speaker 5: but I want to find a clean weekend where there's
20:58
Speaker 5: nothing else going on. I think that's that's the exact
21:00
Speaker 5: wrong mentality. I think putting things together on weekends and
21:04
Speaker 5: making the city a more robust and vibrant place with
21:07
Speaker 5: lots of activity. Yes, sometimes you have to make choices,
21:10
Speaker 5: but selfishly, from the visitors Bureau standpoint, the more things
21:13
Speaker 5: we pack into a weekend, the more vibrant the city is,
21:16
Speaker 5: and the more able we are to attract visitors to come.
21:19
Speaker 5: Because you're not coming for one thing, you're now able
21:22
Speaker 5: to come for two or three things. So when we
21:23
Speaker 5: look at organizations in the city and event planners in
21:27
Speaker 5: the city. I think it's time for us to turn
21:29
Speaker 5: our attention away from trying to find our own standalone
21:32
Speaker 5: weekend or day and start saying, what weekend can we
21:37
Speaker 5: put this event on? How can we collaborate? We got
21:40
Speaker 5: to get out of the mindset of competition and get
21:42
Speaker 5: into a mindset of collaboration and say how can we collaborate?
21:46
Speaker 5: And we're looking to bring this full circle. We're looking
21:48
Speaker 5: at that with USA Cycling this year, how can we
21:51
Speaker 5: find other things to do that weekend so that if
21:54
Speaker 5: you're coming in for that event, you get to see
21:55
Speaker 5: some great cycling. If you're coming in for the cycling,
21:57
Speaker 5: you get all this great entertainment as well. So it's
22:00
Speaker 5: not about competition anymore. It's about collaboration, and that last
22:04
Speaker 5: weekend at the Coliseum and Convention Center is a perfect
22:07
Speaker 5: example of that. Dave, I'm glad you brought that up.
22:09
Speaker 3: All right, all right, So, well's Tim.
22:10
Speaker 6: It's always a pleasure to have you on the show.
22:12
Speaker 6: Some exciting stuff going on. We'll talk again soon, man,

25:27
Speaker 6: there if you're out traveling today. Obviously you know we
25:30
Speaker 6: were dealing with snow all month now it's rain and
25:33
Speaker 6: it's a lot of it.
25:34
Speaker 8: Now.
25:35
Speaker 6: I don't have any reports of flooding here in the
25:38
Speaker 6: immediate area, however, getting some alerts on my phone here
25:41
Speaker 6: from southern West Virginia. There are some areas that are
25:43
Speaker 6: dismissing schools early. And this was expected to be a
25:46
Speaker 6: much bigger problem in the mountains in the eastern part
25:49
Speaker 6: of West Virginia because they still got a lot of snow.
25:51
Speaker 6: We still got snow on the ground, but not nearly
25:53
Speaker 6: as much as what they do, and so it's supposed
25:55
Speaker 6: to be a real real issue there. Will of course
25:57
Speaker 6: keep you updated throughout the day on that situation, but
26:00
Speaker 6: that we do have a flood warning in effect for
26:02
Speaker 6: Kanawa County and the surrounding areas for some time. So
26:06
Speaker 6: just keep your radio on, keep us online, and we'll
26:08
Speaker 6: keep you update. I got a quick text here it says, Dave,
26:11
Speaker 6: any word in the rumor that the town center is
26:13
Speaker 6: completely closing now, I mean, I'm not that.
26:17
Speaker 3: I'm aware of. I will say it might not surprise
26:21
Speaker 3: me if that announcement were to come. I don't know.
26:23
Speaker 6: I hate to speculate on things like that. Coming up
26:25
Speaker 6: on Monday Show, Charleston mer or Amy Schuler Goodwin is
26:28
Speaker 6: going to be here. So if you have any questions, comments,
26:30
Speaker 6: or concerns for the mayor or anything else going on
26:32
Speaker 6: the city, now as your chance. Also we're going to talk.
26:35
Speaker 6: And I got my fingers crossed on this that the
26:36
Speaker 6: schedule work out. It was announced, as I said at
26:39
Speaker 6: the top of the show, that we do do we
26:40
Speaker 6: have a new States senator in district date and that
26:43
Speaker 6: is Kevin Bartlett. He was appointed to that position by
26:45
Speaker 6: the governor. I talked to the senator. I guess he's
26:49
Speaker 6: technically sentenced, well if he's a senatorially sworn in or out,
26:52
Speaker 6: But anyway, I talked to him last night. I've got
26:54
Speaker 6: him scheduled to be on the show on Monday. However,
26:57
Speaker 6: got to kind of work around the whole swearing end thing,
26:59
Speaker 6: so we'll see what happens. I talked to Cabin again
27:01
Speaker 6: last night, so hopefully he's.
27:02
Speaker 3: Going to be in the show on Monday. That brings
27:05
Speaker 3: us to this guy, Greg Thomas is here. How you doing?
27:07
Speaker 2: Man?
27:07
Speaker 4: Doing a right buddy? How are you I'm doing?
27:08
Speaker 3: Faed.
27:09
Speaker 6: I'm glad to know that I wasn't the only one
27:10
Speaker 6: that was suffering because you said that last week you
27:13
Speaker 6: were feeling little under the weather, and I've been battling
27:15
Speaker 6: the cold all week.
27:16
Speaker 3: So it is that season, my.
27:18
Speaker 4: Friend, It is.
27:19
Speaker 2: It is.
27:20
Speaker 4: I still I can't shake it, man. I mean, I
27:21
Speaker 4: feel a lot better than I did last week, but
27:23
Speaker 4: it's just I can't seem to get rid of it.
27:25
Speaker 6: Well, we're going to suck it up for the next
27:27
Speaker 6: thirty minutes or so, you and I. I mentioned that
27:31
Speaker 6: we now have one of those Senate seats that was
27:33
Speaker 6: filled by Kevin Bartlett. Now, Kevin is a former House
27:38
Speaker 6: of Delegates member, and then he was appointed to that position.
27:41
Speaker 6: There were three names that were submitted. I'm presuming by
27:43
Speaker 6: there and this, the eighth district is the one now,
27:47
Speaker 6: and if I'm wrong, you jump in here. The eighth
27:49
Speaker 6: district is the one that encompasses a lot of areas, right, Yeah,
27:52
Speaker 6: because there's portions of Clay County and Rhan and others.
27:55
Speaker 4: Yeah, the eighth is essentially like downtown Charleston going out
27:59
Speaker 4: toward Life Cross Lanes, UH goes over into UH north
28:04
Speaker 4: of the river in Putnam grabs like southern Jackson Roan,
28:10
Speaker 4: And I think I don't know if it's all a
28:12
Speaker 4: clay or a bit of clay or something like that.
28:14
Speaker 3: So it goes a lot of area.
28:15
Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a it's pretty widespread.
28:18
Speaker 7: You know.
28:18
Speaker 4: This is the seat that Mark Hunt was elected in
28:22
Speaker 4: a couple of years ago, and then obviously he was
28:24
Speaker 4: elected as the state's auditor, which created an an opening.
28:29
Speaker 4: There were three names that the and I do think
28:32
Speaker 4: Diana Graves, who's sort of the outgoing chairman of the
28:36
Speaker 4: Kenwall County Republican Party, did a really good job with this.
28:38
Speaker 3: Process because she's she took a seat in the more seats.
28:41
Speaker 4: Yeah, she's with the Senior Services and uh, you know,
28:45
Speaker 4: she's a she's been for a long time friend of mine.
28:47
Speaker 4: She's she's done a really really good job with that.
28:49
Speaker 2: Uh.
28:49
Speaker 4: But they put forth three pretty good names. I mean,
28:51
Speaker 4: there are three really good names. I thought. I mean
28:53
Speaker 4: Mac Warner obviously, are you know, I know you're you
28:55
Speaker 4: would work with Mac in the Secretary of State's office.
28:58
Speaker 4: You know, longtime veteran. The Warners have been a you know,
29:01
Speaker 4: political family in West Virginia for decades. It was a
29:05
Speaker 4: guy named doctor Stephen Eschenower, a veteran Real's Eagle Scout
29:10
Speaker 4: real active in scouting. He was the medical director for
29:12
Speaker 4: the Summit Back to Reserve and has been real active
29:14
Speaker 4: with that organization. And he was also recently or during
29:19
Speaker 4: the Justice administration, was named chair of the Public Health
29:23
Speaker 4: Advisory Committee. You know, so look, I think that's I'm
29:27
Speaker 4: glad to see that mac uh. You know it still
29:30
Speaker 4: wants to serve, right, I mean, this is a guy
29:31
Speaker 4: that's been in you know, he served his whole life,
29:34
Speaker 4: you know, still has some some interest in helping out.
29:37
Speaker 4: I think this name, doctor Stephen Ashenower is one that's
29:40
Speaker 4: gonna come up again. I mean, I think this guy's
29:42
Speaker 4: got a really, really solid resume. I don't see that
29:46
Speaker 4: guy going away.
29:48
Speaker 8: Uh.
29:48
Speaker 4: You know, Bartlett is one that he was appointed I
29:52
Speaker 4: don't know what five years ago or something like somebody
29:55
Speaker 4: uh served in the legislature, had a good voting record.
29:57
Speaker 4: I mean, I think he's somebody that's one of those
29:59
Speaker 4: down the line can conservatives.
30:01
Speaker 3: Church pastor by trade.
30:03
Speaker 4: Yeah, probably probably. I'm sure he's more focused on the
30:08
Speaker 4: social issues than the business issues. But he had he
30:11
Speaker 4: had an overall good voting record. I think this is
30:15
Speaker 4: one that Morrisey probably just looked at it and said, hey,
30:18
Speaker 4: I got three pretty good people here. Bartlett was an
30:21
Speaker 4: early supporter of his helped Morrissey with kind of some
30:24
Speaker 4: of his faith based efforts, you know. And when your governor,
30:28
Speaker 4: you get to make the appointments. And I think he
30:30
Speaker 4: picked the person that he knew the best and and
30:34
Speaker 4: from what I can tell, you know, seems to be
30:36
Speaker 4: a pretty solid pick. So, uh, you know, we'll see
30:40
Speaker 4: he's going to come in here. I do think, you know,
30:42
Speaker 4: I think there's a lot of people that see this
30:44
Speaker 4: as an indicator that we've already seen some early signs
30:48
Speaker 4: are you know, obvious not not not signs, But like
30:51
Speaker 4: you know a lot of the state senators have come
30:53
Speaker 4: out and said we're gonna be focused on social issues,
30:55
Speaker 4: and I think this is probably you know, reinforces that
31:00
Speaker 4: and uh and something that we're going to see a
31:01
Speaker 4: lot of. But yeah, you know, I think it's uh.
31:05
Speaker 4: I think everybody did a pretty job with this whole process.

31:28
Speaker 6: Greg because again, you know, the House is the one
31:31
Speaker 6: that always always been over there. Traditionally, especially the last
31:33
Speaker 6: couple of years, have been kind of the wild cards
31:35
Speaker 6: over there. I've had one had one state senator who
31:38
Speaker 6: shall remain nameless, told me one time, he said, man,
31:40
Speaker 6: those people in the House are crazy. Well, now it's
31:43
Speaker 6: I'm not saying that the people in the Senate are crazy.
31:45
Speaker 6: I'm not saying that, but I'm saying them well maybe
31:49
Speaker 6: maybe maybe maybe you said that. Uh but uh but
31:52
Speaker 6: but I think it's going to be at least starting
31:54
Speaker 6: out very interesting in the Senate because you know, you know,
31:57
Speaker 6: have a new you have a new leader, uh in
31:59
Speaker 6: in in Randy and Randy Smith. And that was a
32:01
Speaker 6: very contentious road to the to the top for him.
32:06
Speaker 6: It was very you know, divided between himself, a.
32:09
Speaker 4: Very very close vote, you know, a very close vote
32:13
Speaker 4: to get the new set of presidency and uh yeah,
32:16
Speaker 4: for sure.
32:16
Speaker 6: Yeah, and that's gonna be one that I think is
32:18
Speaker 6: definitely gonna be worth worth watching. It's the first time
32:21
Speaker 6: I've had you on I think since President Trump returned
32:24
Speaker 6: to office and since Governor Morrissey has taken over. Let's
32:26
Speaker 6: start with Since we're talking about state stuff, let's talk
32:28
Speaker 6: about Morrissey. What do you think of his first week
32:31
Speaker 6: or so in office?
32:32
Speaker 3: I mean, one thing I'll say about him, Greg he's there.
32:35
Speaker 3: Oh yeah, Look, and he's doing as I said, and.
32:38
Speaker 6: I'm gonna sa I'm gonna give I'm gonna give Governor
32:40
Speaker 6: Morrissey credit. He's doing in person press conferences. He's taking
32:44
Speaker 6: questions from the media as as he should.
32:47
Speaker 3: It's not on zoom. It's not you get one question
32:50
Speaker 3: or done.
32:50
Speaker 6: Matter of fact, as I told the story on the air,
32:52
Speaker 6: the first press conference that he had, I was told
32:55
Speaker 6: by I wasn't there, but by people that were covering
32:57
Speaker 6: it that he went up to the press, the gaggle
32:59
Speaker 6: of res corps and said was that, okay, h am,
33:03
Speaker 6: I is this what you all need? What what a
33:06
Speaker 6: refreshing way of doing things?
33:08
Speaker 4: Well, look, Morrissey, you know, especially in comparison with the
33:11
Speaker 4: last governor. And Morsey's a policy guy, right, I mean,
33:14
Speaker 4: he's you know, he'd worked in he'd worked on Capitol Hill,
33:17
Speaker 4: he's been a DC lobbyist. I mean, he's somebody that
33:19
Speaker 4: understands political issues and government issues a lot, you know,
33:25
Speaker 4: So I think he's comfortable with that, right, He's comfortable
33:28
Speaker 4: standing up there and talking about these issues. You know,
33:31
Speaker 4: he's he's been somebody that's been very aggressive trying to
33:35
Speaker 4: get media as the attorney General. I mean, obviously I
33:38
Speaker 4: think he's going to do that times ten now that
33:41
Speaker 4: he's governor, you know, so, I look, he's going to
33:44
Speaker 4: be very aggressive on that front, be out there all
33:46
Speaker 4: the time. The budget, you know, the whole budget thing
33:50
Speaker 4: seemed to be a little you know, they're going to
33:53
Speaker 4: have to figure that out and and I don't I
33:56
Speaker 4: don't know who's right, who's wrong, Probably a little bit
33:58
Speaker 4: of each. They'll have to figure out that whole budget situation,
34:02
Speaker 4: which they'll do though, I mean he's look, he's going
34:04
Speaker 4: to have his State of the State here in a
34:05
Speaker 4: couple of weeks. They're going to have to come out
34:06
Speaker 4: and say, hey, here's where we are, here's you know,
34:08
Speaker 4: here's our priorities. Have to work with the legislature on
34:11
Speaker 4: that budget. What I think is very noticeable though obviously
34:16
Speaker 4: is you know, Morrissey is mimicking stuff that Trump's doing, right, which, hey,
34:22
Speaker 4: what Trump is more popular in West Virginia than any
34:25
Speaker 4: other state in the country. Pretty solid political thing to do, right.
34:29
Speaker 4: Trump came out with a ton of executive orders. Morrissey
34:32
Speaker 4: came out at the beginning with executive orders, right, and
34:34
Speaker 4: and some of them were actual policy things. Some of
34:37
Speaker 4: them were more just, hey, here's guidelines or goals of
34:39
Speaker 4: where my administration is going to go. Just in the
34:43
Speaker 4: last week, you know, you've seen from Trump, you know,
34:46
Speaker 4: the immigration crackdowns, and then you had Morrisy come out
34:50
Speaker 4: and put out an executive order saying, hey, we're going
34:53
Speaker 4: to follow this right like everybody in West Virginia that's
34:56
Speaker 4: under everybody in West Virginia is going to work with
34:59
Speaker 4: the FEDS on this immigration you know, deportation process. And
35:03
Speaker 4: de E I was another one, right, the whole diversity
35:06
Speaker 4: equity inclusion stuff. You know, Morrison came out with an
35:09
Speaker 4: executive order there where I don't know if I don't
35:13
Speaker 4: know if this is true or not. I don't you know,
35:14
Speaker 4: I don't follow this issue as much, but I do
35:17
Speaker 4: know that WU has already come out and said they're
35:19
Speaker 4: getting rid of their DEI office, and.
35:21
Speaker 6: Yeah, there seems to be some question as to how
35:22
Speaker 6: they're going to do that. I know TJ and Dave
35:24
Speaker 6: we're going to get into that on talk line Dave
35:26
Speaker 6: Wilson a little bit later on. But I think that
35:28
Speaker 6: they've had some there are some questions about that. The
35:30
Speaker 6: Board of Governors at WVU, I think is supposed to
35:33
Speaker 6: meet today and so I don't know that we'll have
35:35
Speaker 6: a whole lot of news come out on that today,
35:37
Speaker 6: but there seems to be you know, one one source
35:39
Speaker 6: I read said that it was going to be not
35:40
Speaker 6: that it's going away, but it was going to be
35:42
Speaker 6: a a rebranding, uh uh, and and that that it
35:48
Speaker 6: may take on a different form, that it's not going
35:49
Speaker 6: to go away. Then I read something else that said, no,
35:51
Speaker 6: it's it's going away.
35:53
Speaker 4: Yeah, So it will be.
35:55
Speaker 3: Interesting to kind of see how that all plays out.
35:57
Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it will go way now, whether they
36:01
Speaker 4: just you know, find jobs for all those people somewhere else.
36:04
Speaker 4: I mean, w over the years has gotten to be
36:07
Speaker 4: a situation where a lot of the Liberals that used
36:10
Speaker 4: to work in Charleston have sort of found refuge there
36:12
Speaker 4: and found jobs, and I you know, so I there
36:16
Speaker 4: might be a little bit of a you know, I
36:19
Speaker 4: think the conservatives here in Charleston would like to see
36:21
Speaker 4: a little bit of a crackdown on that. But you know, look,
36:24
Speaker 4: Morrissey's doing a lot of the things in supporting a
36:27
Speaker 4: lot of the things that that Trump is out there
36:29
Speaker 4: advocating for, which are wildly you know, popular in West Virginia, right.
36:34
Speaker 4: I mean, these are all issues that you know that
36:37
Speaker 4: are overwhelmingly you know, Trump's got a you know, the
36:41
Speaker 4: majority of support of the country, the vast majority of
36:44
Speaker 4: the support of West Virginia, and it makes perfect sense
36:47
Speaker 4: for Morrissey to kind of go along as lines.
36:50
Speaker 6: Going back to the ice raids in West Virginia, the
36:55
Speaker 6: latest numbers I saw Greg said that the raid's got
36:59
Speaker 6: seventy two people thirteen though we're already detained in state
37:04
Speaker 6: and state institutions. So it's not been a thing and
37:08
Speaker 6: there may be some exceptions, okay, but it's not been
37:10
Speaker 6: a thing where they're going out to a certain business
37:13
Speaker 6: and going you you you you're.
37:14
Speaker 3: You're out of here.
37:16
Speaker 6: Many of these folks have been people and across the
37:19
Speaker 6: country too, not just in West Virginia that were already
37:22
Speaker 6: wanted for something or or in many cases, like in
37:25
Speaker 6: West Virginia with thirteen of them, they were already incarcerated.
37:27
Speaker 4: Oh look, I think this is you know, they're sort
37:29
Speaker 4: of getting the low hanging fruit, if you will, right,
37:32
Speaker 4: I mean, I think this is the people that they
37:34
Speaker 4: know have done something wrong here, done something wrong somewhere else,
37:38
Speaker 4: has been identified as as kind of you know, potential
37:41
Speaker 4: problem citizens, and they're doing it again. It's not like
37:46
Speaker 4: immigration is something, you know, I think what West Virginia
37:49
Speaker 4: probably has the least bit of immigration problem a problem
37:52
Speaker 4: in the country, you know. So it's again, it's not
37:55
Speaker 4: something and the DUI things the same, right, I mean,
37:56
Speaker 4: other than the WU example, do we even know of
37:59
Speaker 4: anybody else that at this And so again, it's not
38:02
Speaker 4: issues that are huge, huge problems in West Virginia, but
38:06
Speaker 4: they are issues that have overwhelming support to address in
38:09
Speaker 4: West Virginia. And you know, so I think these are
38:12
Speaker 4: these are some bigger lifts for Trump federal nationally, but
38:18
Speaker 4: some easy wins for Morrissey locally.

Speaker 4: Sure, buddy, I know I do.
38:38
Speaker 6: We even brought TJ. Meadows in here. Who's he's We're
38:40
Speaker 6: not putting you on the air yet. This is Greg
38:42
Speaker 6: and Dave time buddies.
38:43
Speaker 3: No, you know your role? No, I'm kidding. TJ.
38:46
Speaker 6: Meadows is and hanging out and see. I think it's
38:48
Speaker 6: because TJ and I share an office.
38:49
Speaker 3: We don't have a TV in our office.
38:51
Speaker 6: That's why he comes in early, just so we can
38:53
Speaker 6: catch up on you know, the price is right or
38:55
Speaker 6: something I don't know, text says Dave and Greg.
38:59
Speaker 3: This will be for you to go ahead and get
39:00
Speaker 3: your cough out.
39:01
Speaker 6: I know you got into you're entering the sick bay here,
39:05
Speaker 6: Hey Dave, how about the timeline of events January twentieth.
39:09
Speaker 6: FAA director fired January twenty first, air traffic controller hiring
39:13
Speaker 6: frozen January twenty second, Aviation Safety Advisory Committee disbanded January
39:18
Speaker 6: twenty eighth. Buy out retirement demand sent to existing employees
39:21
Speaker 6: January twenty ninth. First American mid air collision in sixteen years. Oh,
39:25
Speaker 6: and there was one traffic controller working two towers. But
39:28
Speaker 6: the common sense that is in quotation marks Greg. But
39:32
Speaker 6: the common sense answer for the cause of the crash
39:35
Speaker 6: was DEI hires Biden and Obamas stupid as as stupid does.
39:39
Speaker 6: The President could have handled that better yesterday.
39:41
Speaker 3: Greg.
39:43
Speaker 4: Look, I think that they were coming after him. You know,
39:47
Speaker 4: he was being attacked politically, so he attacked them politically.
39:51
Speaker 4: Back is essentially what happened. I mean, for me, both
39:54
Speaker 4: sides could have handled it better. None of us know
39:57
Speaker 4: what actually happened.
39:58
Speaker 9: You know.
39:58
Speaker 4: I was listening to you your station on the way
40:01
Speaker 4: in and a you know, an interview by somebody from
40:04
Speaker 4: the FAFA that was saying it's going to take a
40:06
Speaker 4: year before they will have put out a report that says,
40:09
Speaker 4: you know, here's what happened in this situation. So look,
40:12
Speaker 4: I think both sides could have handled it better. I
40:14
Speaker 4: think something like this happens, everybody immediately tries to find
40:17
Speaker 4: you know, how do I get some political advantage to it.
40:20
Speaker 4: Look at the this is a tragic accident, right, This
40:23
Speaker 4: is a tragic accident where Americans died, you know. So
40:28
Speaker 4: I think there's you know, from my perspective, I think it's,
40:31
Speaker 4: you know, how do we find a way to be
40:33
Speaker 4: sympathetic and supportive. Certainly you want to find out why
40:36
Speaker 4: it happened, though, to make sure something like that doesn't happen. Again,
40:39
Speaker 4: it's obviously not something that happens very often.
40:41
Speaker 6: But the President Greg took a lot of heat yesterday
40:44
Speaker 6: even from some other Republicans for coming out and making
40:47
Speaker 6: this a political thing.
40:48
Speaker 4: Oh but again, knowing Trump, when you're somebody that's been attacked,
40:53
Speaker 4: I mean, they tried to put this guy in jail forever, right,
40:55
Speaker 4: they tried to take all of his money, they tried
40:57
Speaker 4: to put his family. You know, they've attacked this guy
40:59
Speaker 4: for he's going to attack back. I mean, it's just
41:03
Speaker 4: the way the guy is. So I look, I think
41:06
Speaker 4: both sides are attacking each other kind of politically here.
41:10
Speaker 4: You know, I think we you know, there's gonna have
41:12
Speaker 4: to be an investigation and you have to look at
41:14
Speaker 4: the facts, find out what happened, make sure it doesn't
41:15
Speaker 4: happen again.
41:16
Speaker 3: Tech says, our motor scooter senator left a pretty low
41:19
Speaker 3: bar for Governor. Patty Boy doing the basics shouldn't be
41:22
Speaker 3: praised too highly. After all, Paddy Boy isn't thinking for himself.
41:25
Speaker 3: He's just mimicking his dear leader Trump, you.
41:30
Speaker 4: Know, if he wants to beget popular, though, it's not
41:32
Speaker 4: a bad strategy. And look, Morse he's going to I mean,
41:35
Speaker 4: Morsey has his own agenda. It's not like that's all
41:38
Speaker 4: he's done. You know. He came out with the you know,
41:42
Speaker 4: having the department that's going to be focused on the
41:44
Speaker 4: regulatory stuff and all of that. I mean, I think
41:46
Speaker 4: he's gonna have stuff that's there. There are just I
41:49
Speaker 4: think people, Look, I think you need to understand. I mean, look,
41:52
Speaker 4: I go out I do state politics for a living, right,
41:55
Speaker 4: I recruit candidates, I work with candidates, I have government
41:57
Speaker 4: relations clients and lobby at the capitol. Like is state based,
42:00
Speaker 4: not that I don't have any federal but it's primarily
42:03
Speaker 4: state based. And you need to understand when you go
42:06
Speaker 4: out here and just deal with day to day people,
42:09
Speaker 4: they're focused on the federal issues. Right. You go door
42:12
Speaker 4: to door and go to something very rarely does somebody
42:15
Speaker 4: look at you and say, K through twelve, education is
42:18
Speaker 4: my number one issue. They almost always go to the
42:21
Speaker 4: federal stuff because that's the stuff that's forced down their
42:24
Speaker 4: throats all the time. Right, what are we talking about? Trump?
42:27
Speaker 4: You talk about Trump all the time because it's Trump,
42:28
Speaker 4: Trump Trump. You know, the federal issues are just sort
42:32
Speaker 4: of what gets attention, and that's what people talk about.
42:34
Speaker 4: So Morrissey would be you know, it'd be malpracticed to
42:37
Speaker 4: not talk about the federal issues, even though it's not
42:40
Speaker 4: really the most important thing he does every day. But
42:42
Speaker 4: he's going to have to address that stuff because all
42:44
Speaker 4: of the people around him and all the legislators. I mean,
42:48
Speaker 4: you know, most of the legislators that are in this
42:51
Speaker 4: legislature right now know very very little about state issues.
42:55
Speaker 4: They know very little about state issues. They are getting
42:57
Speaker 4: involved in politics driven by their interest in federal issues,
43:03
Speaker 4: and so they get involved, right Trump Trump. A lot
43:06
Speaker 4: of the people that are up there right now ran
43:08
Speaker 4: for office because they wanted to support Trump. How does
43:12
Speaker 4: being a delegate help Trump? Not really sure, but that's
43:16
Speaker 4: why you end up talking about dui dei and immigration
43:21
Speaker 4: and stuff that as we just talked about it's not
43:24
Speaker 4: a pressing state issue, but it's addressed at the state
43:27
Speaker 4: level because there's just so much interest in it among
43:30
Speaker 4: the public and the political class.
43:32
Speaker 6: But that statement, though, Greg, that you just made that
43:34
Speaker 6: said that that a great number of the legislators don't
43:38
Speaker 6: know a lot about state issues.
43:39
Speaker 3: That's probably not going to make you very popular.
43:42
Speaker 4: Well, they're new that Well, it's it's I don't know why.
43:46
Speaker 4: I mean, it's just a reality though, right, I mean
43:48
Speaker 4: they they will. I mean they're new, right, So they're
43:51
Speaker 4: new and so that's what I'm saying, Like they run
43:55
Speaker 4: on the federal issues and then they get here and
43:58
Speaker 4: then it's like all right, and then p who have
44:00
Speaker 4: to educate them on the state issues. So I'm not
44:02
Speaker 4: saying the people that have been here don't know. It's
44:04
Speaker 4: just so many people are new. Got that that's why
44:07
Speaker 4: they get involved in this is I want to support
44:10
Speaker 4: Trump I care about you know, you go in and
44:13
Speaker 4: meet with the first time you go in and meet
44:15
Speaker 4: with the first time candidate, whether it's state Senate or
44:17
Speaker 4: House of Delegates or whatever, and you say, hey, what
44:19
Speaker 4: are your top five issues? Four out of five at
44:22
Speaker 4: a minimum are going to be issues that are federal issues.
44:24
Speaker 3: Yes, you're right about that. I may knock out some
44:26
Speaker 3: texts before we go to break. Text says Dave.
44:28
Speaker 6: Why is it that Trump criticized the DEI hiring and
44:31
Speaker 6: says that people should be qualified for the job. Well,
44:33
Speaker 6: Trump's not qualified and most of his cabinet picture are
44:36
Speaker 6: not qualified for the jobs either. Texas, Dave, I hear
44:40
Speaker 6: the state is in worse shape than previously thought. We
44:42
Speaker 6: are broke and we know help insight. Let's worry about
44:45
Speaker 6: social issues that divide our communities, Texas, Dave. Not one
44:49
Speaker 6: employer in these raids got fined or shut down. Wonder why, Texas.
44:55
Speaker 6: Trump started out good in his dress yesterday. He was
44:57
Speaker 6: the leader of the nation, needed the leader of the
44:59
Speaker 6: nation to deserved for three minutes and thirty seconds. Then
45:02
Speaker 6: he had to start blaming others and he'd been praised
45:04
Speaker 6: upon himself. Sad he threw away a.
45:06
Speaker 3: Big opportunity, says a Texture.
45:09
Speaker 4: Text says, go ahead, I mean that like, I don't disagree.
45:13
Speaker 4: I mean, well, I do disagree with not everything that
45:16
Speaker 4: Texter has said, but they literally made it political in
45:19
Speaker 4: their text. Right, It's like they're complaining about him many
45:22
Speaker 4: political but then they make it political in their criticism
45:24
Speaker 4: of it. It's what everybody's done in this situation. Everybody
45:27
Speaker 4: involved in this has made this political, probably except for
45:31
Speaker 4: the families of the people that were died in the.
45:33

Speaker 4: but I'm still a supporter of Trump. I don't support
45:55
Speaker 4: him blindly on every single issue and every single thing

Speaker 4: I support Donald Trump.

48:19
Speaker 3: Greg Thomas is here.
48:19
Speaker 6: Text says, let's face it, Donald Trump is off to
48:22
Speaker 6: a terrible start, raising taxes and tariffs, trying to control
48:25
Speaker 6: spending over which he has no authority, et cetera. We
48:28
Speaker 6: are getting what he promised. I hope he will take
48:31
Speaker 6: the early buyout, says a Texter.
48:33
Speaker 4: I'll bet you if you surveyed the country right now,
48:36
Speaker 4: a majority of the people would support what he's done
48:39
Speaker 4: so far as president.
48:40
Speaker 6: Well, they voted for him, the majority did, and based
48:43
Speaker 6: on what he said, this is what he said he
48:45
Speaker 6: was going to do.
48:46
Speaker 3: Tex says. President Trump speaks the truth about the crash.
48:49
Speaker 6: That's why he cited executive order to end DEI its
48:52
Speaker 6: common sense, says a Texter. Agree with Greg says the
48:59
Speaker 6: textra me. Philip on CNN tried to pin the blame
49:02
Speaker 6: on the crash on Trump that night. Tex says, if
49:05
Speaker 6: nothing else, the one positive to come from RFK, Tulsea
49:09
Speaker 6: Elton or not Elton Elton, John Elon, I'm sorry, and
49:13
Speaker 6: even Joe Manchin leaving the Democrat Party is they're now
49:15
Speaker 6: seen exactly how insanely unhinged, nasty and evil their former
49:19
Speaker 6: friends truly are.
49:21
Speaker 4: I have no doubt about that, man. I mean, I look,
49:24
Speaker 4: the Democratic Party just took one into the face, right
49:27
Speaker 4: they You know, Republicans control everything almost everywhere, and all
49:34
Speaker 4: you've seen from them over the last couple of months
49:37
Speaker 4: is just a doubling and tripling down of the mistakes
49:40
Speaker 4: they made to get in the minority. I mean, I
49:42
Speaker 4: you know, the way they treat people and the way
49:44
Speaker 4: they kind of you know, they're just so divisive, and
49:48
Speaker 4: they're so controlling, and it's just those socialistic tendencies to
49:51
Speaker 4: just control and push. That's the stuff that got them
49:55
Speaker 4: in the minority. And they're gonna have to make some real,
49:58
Speaker 4: real big changes if they expect to to be successful
50:01
Speaker 4: in the upcoming elections Texas.
50:03
Speaker 3: Trump feels attacked by legitimate questions. He's thin skin and soft.
50:08
Speaker 4: I don't know if he's soft, he probably he's sensitive
50:12
Speaker 4: to it, right, I mean, if you're attacked at the
50:13
Speaker 4: agree he has I go back to what I said before.
50:16
Speaker 4: I mean, once they try to put you in jail,
50:19
Speaker 4: you know what I mean, Like, that's a that's a line, right, Like,
50:21
Speaker 4: once they've crossed the line, once they've crossed the line
50:24
Speaker 4: to attack you, where's the line for you to attack them?
50:28
Speaker 4: And I think, look, do I agree with everything Trump says?
50:31
Speaker 4: Would I have done it that way? I'm sure his
50:33
Speaker 4: advisors didn't advise it that way? Right, Trump's Trump? Right?
50:37
Speaker 8: Like that?
50:37
Speaker 4: Like the last Texter said Hey, the first three and
50:39
Speaker 4: a half minutes were great, and then he went off
50:41
Speaker 4: on his stuff. That's what Trump does, and it's just
50:45
Speaker 4: who it's who the guy is. But at the same time,
50:48
Speaker 4: he's addressing issues that no other Republican will address, and
50:53
Speaker 4: that's why there's so many people that support him and
50:55
Speaker 4: that's why he got the majority of the votes in November.
50:58
Speaker 6: Text says, oh, no, politics gets pulled medical who the thought?
51:00
Speaker 6: Apparently not a Republican strategist.
51:03
Speaker 4: So so we're so we're supposed to politicize plane crashes.
51:08
Speaker 4: Are we're gonna politicize car crashes? Or we're gonna politicize
51:12
Speaker 4: you know, bicycle accidents down Canaul Boulevard. I mean, like,
51:17
Speaker 4: I guess, man, I guess, I guess I should know
51:22
Speaker 4: more as a political consultant. I should know more about
51:25
Speaker 4: FA regulations. That's my that's on me, lady, that's on me.
51:29
Speaker 3: Uh Texas, And well, we don't know that there was
51:32
Speaker 3: a lady.
51:33
Speaker 4: We don't want to. Okay, whoever it was, I'm gonna
51:39
Speaker 4: get whoever that is. Send me, send this, send us
51:42
Speaker 4: something into Dave, like the f A Handbook, and I'll
51:45
Speaker 4: read up on it for next.

Speaker 3: Time right the Dave Island Show.
51:48
Speaker 6: If I have any live bride to apartment, your hometown
51:50
Speaker 6: baseball team, the Charleston Dirty Birds, Texas. There's not one
51:52
Speaker 6: out of compassion or empathy in Trump's body. I feel
51:55
Speaker 6: so badly for the families of those impacted by the
51:57
Speaker 6: airline tragedy. There were says a texture nineteen. Controller is
52:01
Speaker 6: short at Reagan National and Obama Biden hiring practice is
52:05
Speaker 6: all part of the reason Trump not always going to
52:07
Speaker 6: say the right thing at the right time. Greg, It's
52:09
Speaker 6: always a pleasure having the show man appreciate it. All right, GJ,
52:13
Speaker 6: it's time for you to talk now. DJ Meadows he's

Speaker 6: I'm learning how to do good radio. I'm here on DEI.
