- 0:00Dot com Welcome to the Daily Quote, a podcast designed to
- 0:06kick start your day in a positive way.
- 0:09I'm your host Anna McGivern for December 15th.
- 0:12Today is International Tea Day, a global celebration of the
- 0:15world's most consumed beverage after water that is.
- 0:20Tea has been cultivated for over 5000 years, originating in China
- 0:25and eventually spreading across the world through trade routes
- 0:28and colonization. Tea has grown in more than 50
- 0:32countries and consumed in virtually every culture on
- 0:35earth. Whether it's green tea in Japan,
- 0:38Chai in India, mint tea in Morocco, or English breakfast in
- 0:42Britain, tea crosses all borders.
- 0:45But tea is more than a drink. It's a ceremony in Japan.
- 0:50It's hospitality in the Middle East.
- 0:54It's a pause button in Britain. Across cultures, tea creates a
- 0:58moment to stop, breathe and connect with yourself, with
- 1:01others and the present moment. And that brings us to today's
- 1:05quote from Chinese philosopher and inventor Yin Yuteng, who
- 1:10captured tea's deeper purpose when he wrote.
- 1:14There is something in the nature of tea that leads us into a
- 1:17world of quiet contemplation of life.
- 1:21Yuteng understood that tea does something unique.
- 1:24Coffee energizes, Alcohol loosens.
- 1:27But tea? Tea quiets.
- 1:31Making tea requires patience. You boil water, you steep
- 1:35leaves, you wait. In a world of instant everything
- 1:40tea demands you slow down. Then when you finally drink it,
- 1:45the warmth, the ritual, the flavor, they all encourage
- 1:48contemplation. Tea creates space for thought.
- 1:52Not anxious, racing thought. Quiet contemplation.
- 1:56The kind where you notice things, where problems seem
- 2:00smaller, where clarity emerges. Every culture understands this.
- 2:07The Japanese tea ceremony isn't about the tea.
- 2:10It's about presence, mindfulness, awareness.
- 2:14British afternoon tea isn't about hunger.
- 2:16It's about creating a civilized pause in the day.
- 2:20Moroccan mint tea isn't about refreshment.
- 2:23It's about welcoming strangers and making them family.
- 2:28Tea and its nature slows us down and asks us to pay attention to
- 2:33life while we're living it. So today, go make tea, not
- 2:38coffee. You're not in that much of A
- 2:40rush. Drink tea.
- 2:43Boil the water chews your leaves, steep them properly.
- 2:47Then sit down and drink it without your phone, without
- 2:50distractions, without multitasking.
- 2:53Let the tea do what you Tang says.
- 2:55It does lead you into quiet contemplation.
- 2:59Think about your life, not anxiously, quietly.
- 3:04What matters, what doesn't, what needs attention, what needs to
- 3:09be released. Give yourself that gift.
- 3:13Tea isn't just a beverage, it's a doorway to presence.
- 3:17And that's going to do it for today.
- 3:19I'm Anna McGivern, signing off for now, but I'll be back
- 3:23tomorrow. Same pod time, same pod station
- 3:29with another daily quote.
