- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So today we're talking about family and just the fact that
- 0:34they can be difficult sometimes. Now I I I think it's very funny
- 0:38that we're doing this from a chicken coop talking about
- 0:40family because chickens as you know sometimes can they don't
- 0:44get along and yet they are a family.
- 0:47They all live in the same coop, but they don't always do well
- 0:51together. And sometimes that's why they
- 0:52need a lot of space and there's lots of rules around it.
- 0:55And when chickens get picked on, you have to separate them and
- 0:57you have to recognize sometimes you just have a chicken that
- 1:00wants to cause trouble. Not that I have any of that
- 1:03happening, but I just think it's funny because I talk to people
- 1:06who do have that happening and it always is interesting to me,
- 1:10such a fascinating fact, how they all work together and how
- 1:14they think. And just even as I'm talking to
- 1:17you and I'm doing this, the the group of chickens from the
- 1:20neighbors that moved in, we have a solid 12 of them now that are
- 1:25here. Two of them sleep in the coop.
- 1:28The rest of them sleep in the tree like they did at the
- 1:31neighbors. They just learned when they were
- 1:32little to sleep in a tree. And they're not traditional
- 1:35chickens. They're Bantam.
- 1:36So they're smaller. They have full flight and quite,
- 1:39really fast Flyers and they don't want to come in.
- 1:42They're welcome to, but they don't.
- 1:43And we can't catch them because they're so fast.
- 1:46But in any event, how family can be difficult?
- 1:49It's very related to this because as my girls are here and
- 1:53this new family has kind of moved in, I watch my girls get
- 1:58irritated with them sometimes. Right now they're having
- 2:01raspberries, bananas, shredded zucchini and hot Peppers for
- 2:04breakfast. And one of the neighbour's
- 2:08chickens grabbed a Raspberry from the plate and the big
- 2:12platters that I bring out. And one of my girls got
- 2:14irritated with her as if to say no, and she pecked at her and
- 2:18then the other one runs away, drops the Berry, mine, picks it
- 2:21up and is happy. Now if you think about how this
- 2:24works anywhere in nature, we all get aggravated with each other,
- 2:29and humans are no different. The only difference that we have
- 2:32is that we use our words, and our words can be sharp and
- 2:35hurtful to people. And you know, there are times
- 2:39when people will say, well, communication is only 7% words,
- 2:44but words matter to people because they have assigned
- 2:48emotion to them. And so family often has a way of
- 2:52communicating where it can be detrimental, 'cause they say
- 2:55things that they might not mean the way we take them.
- 2:59I know this happens in my personal world a lot, and it
- 3:03it's it's such a hard thing to learn to let go of certain
- 3:08things. It's just it's very hard to
- 3:10learn to let go of having another person's meaning, which
- 3:14is not the same as yours, overlap.
- 3:18So in other words, if someone says something to me and I take
- 3:22it a certain way, that's from my internal world, my scope.
- 3:26They say it. They're meaning it from their
- 3:28internal world, their scope. Now, if they tend to be a person
- 3:32that's much more analytical and less emotional, then I'm going
- 3:38to probably have a more emotional take on it and I'm
- 3:41going to have a reaction to that.
- 3:42It's just the nature of the beast, of what we're dealing
- 3:45with. And there's not a lot that we
- 3:47can do about that other than agree on the fact that we
- 3:50disagree and and try to work on our definitions meaning the same
- 3:53things. But in families it becomes more
- 3:56complex and and especially in this day and age, many families
- 4:01are blended families where we've got many different groups of
- 4:04people coming together that we're not raised together, many
- 4:08different rules overlapping, many different definitions
- 4:11overlapping and lots of emotions overlapping.
- 4:15So how do we handle this? And you know, one of my mentors
- 4:20who I've often talked about on the podcast in the past is
- 4:24Esther Hicks. And she once made a statement
- 4:28that I will never forget saying family is highly overrated.
- 4:32And I laugh every time I hear it because it is true, we put so
- 4:37much on family, we put so much weight on what family means.
- 4:42But the reality is that sometimes they're not healthy
- 4:46for us, sometimes they're not the best thing for us.
- 4:49Sometimes we have to actually let go of them in order to move
- 4:52forward. And people are always shocked
- 4:55when I say that because they're like, well, they're our family,
- 4:58OK, but maybe they're not healthy, maybe they're
- 5:00psychologically not right. Maybe there are other issues.
- 5:03And maybe letting go of them is absolutely the best thing that
- 5:07you could possibly ever do for yourself because then you get
- 5:11the the the break to be yourself.
- 5:13You get the break to make your own decisions.
- 5:15And it's not something that you have to struggle with when you
- 5:18don't have somebody else putting you down for your decisions.
- 5:21Because that's the biggest problem with family is that
- 5:24often they think because they're your family, they can put you in
- 5:27a position. Now, obviously I'm not talking
- 5:31about children here. So I'm talking about adults,
- 5:34young adults, people who are, you know, involved in family in
- 5:40a different way than children are because obviously we have to
- 5:42help our children by telling them what to do.
- 5:44I'm talking about adults and when I tell you as an adult,
- 5:48some of the best decisions I ever made were walking away from
- 5:53some family members, I still stand by it because they were
- 5:56not healthy. They were not the in the in the
- 5:59frame of this world that I wanted to be in.
- 6:03So I'm going to make a suggestion to everybody.
- 6:07Look at where you are with this and if you are struggling with
- 6:10things with your family, remember you are an adult.
- 6:14You can make decisions and you do not have to always listen to
- 6:18everybody else around you just because they're family.
- 6:21All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I'll
- 6:24see you tomorrow. Bye.
