- 0:00Welcome back to the Spy Trader podcast .
- 0:03I am your host , Barnaby Bullish , and I am so glad you could join me for our midafternoon update .
- 0:09It is 2:30 pm on Thursday , July 9th , 2026 , here on the Pacific coast .
- 0:17We have a lot of ground to cover as the markets move through this summer session .
- 0:21We are currently navigating what many of us are calling a mature expansion phase .
- 0:26The wild volatility we saw in the mid2020s has finally calmed down , and the market has transitioned from pure speculation on Artificial Intelligence to a real focus on tangible productivity gains and earnings quality .
- 0:41In short , the hype is being replaced by results .
- 0:45Looking at the big picture , the macroeconomic backdrop is defined by what we call The Great Stabilization .
- 0:52The Federal Reserve held interest rates steady at four point two five percent in its June meeting , and market sentiment suggests a high probability of a rate cut in September .
- 1:03Inflation has cooled to two point one percent yearoveryear , which has lowered the yield on the tenyear Treasury to three point seven five percent , providing a nice tailwind for equities .
- 1:14Meanwhile , the labor market remains solid with unemployment at three point nine percent .
- 1:21In sector news , Technology is still leading the charge .
- 1:25The focus has shifted from just training AI models to inference and edge computing .
- 1:30While NVIDIA continues to dominate the hardware space , investors are now looking at software integrators like Microsoft and ServiceNow to see how AI is actually impacting the bottom line .
- 1:43Healthcare is also outperforming in what looks like a golden age of drug discovery .
- 1:49Following the success of weight loss drugs , firms like Eli Lilly are seeing record highs as they move into Alzheimer’s treatments .
- 1:57We are also seeing a resurgence in Financials ; as the yield curve begins to normalize , banks like JP Morgan are benefiting from better interest margins .
- 2:06Even Real Estate is finally stabilizing , with the Vanguard Real Estate ETF seeing a four percent climb over the last thirty days .
- 2:16There has been some significant company news lately .
- 2:19Apple shares are pushing toward new alltime highs following the mass adoption of their Vision Pro 3 and the integration of autonomous Siri Agents across their ecosystem .
- 2:31This is providing a major lift to the Invesco QQQ Trust .
- 2:35Tesla also made waves by beating Q2 delivery expectations , specifically in their Megapack energy storage segment , signaling their successful pivot into a diversified energy and AI robotics firm .
- 2:50However , keep an eye on oil prices , which are volatile around seventyeight dollars a barrel due to geopolitical tensions .
- 2:58This has kept the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust , or SPY , in a relatively tight trading range .
- 3:06So , how should you be positioning your portfolio ?
- 3:09For a core growth strategy , I recommend overweighting the Invesco QQQ Trust and NVIDIA .
- 3:16We are no longer in an AI bubble ; companies are showing doubledigit productivity increases , and the software layer represented by Microsoft and Google is where the next leg of the rally is forming .
- 3:28To play the upcoming rate normalization , consider buying the iShares 20 plus Year Treasury Bond ETF , ticker TLT , and the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund , XLF .
- 3:42If the Fed cuts rates in September , bond prices will rise , and a steeper yield curve is a goldilocks scenario for banks like JP Morgan .
- 3:51For defensive growth , accumulate the Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund , XLV , and Eli Lilly .
- 3:59Healthcare demand is inelastic , and Lilly’s dominance in the metabolic space provides a rare moat .
- 4:05Finally , for international diversification , look at the Vanguard Total International Stock ETF , VXUS .
- 4:13As the dollar weakens with rate cuts , international markets in Europe and Japan become much more attractive .
- 4:20To wrap things up for this July 9th session , maintain a core of the Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF for total U.S.
- 4:27exposure , but tilt fifteen percent of your portfolio toward Technology and Healthcare to capture these 2026 trends .
- 4:34Avoid highleverage sectors until that September Fed decision is officially confirmed .
- 4:39I am Barnaby Bullish , and this has been Spy Trader Thanks for listening !
