Transcript
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Good morning and welcome to Ag Squawk AM.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: Jed Sidwell here, live from Juliet, Illinois.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: Today on this fine Wednesday morning, we're going to be talking about Mexican beef imports, crop progress, and the price of diesel fuel, and a whole lot more here in a bit.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: Yesterday, live cattle were up a little over four bucks at 217 and a just a tick there.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: Feeder cattle closed at$325.45 at up$5.30.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: Even the hogs had a big update, not quite two bucks.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: They were up there at$84.25.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: As I quote the grain markets here live, like to pop on our sponsor, plus$500.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: We use plus$500 T4 trading software every single day to trade the markets.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: And as I look, Deese Corn came down just a little bit overnight and then rallied back and back in the red again.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: That it is at 5 30 and a quarter.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: November beans are at 1314 and three quarters.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: And Chicago, December wheat is at 745 and a half.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: Well, the weather discussion, as we talked about yesterday, we've seen some kind of weird reversal kind of trend changes.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: We did see a lot of flash flooding overnight between Des Moines and Omaha with nearly six inches of rain in the hardest hit strip.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: And the near-term rain now pivots to the southeastern corn belt, while the northern plains and northwestern cornbelt will be able to catch a break and hopefully dry out just a little bit there.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: Not to mention, hopefully, yeah, those rains hit Kansas and Oklahoma and Texas in the beneficial spots where they could definitely use it.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: On the grain market discussion for today, Tuesday's crop progress ratings barely moved at all.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: But Stonex probably moved just a little bit farther away from the USDA than they already were.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: And as we dig into it, the September survey said 180 182.9 bushel corn, 53 bushel beans, and like I said, farther away from the USDA with the big disagreement kind of concentrated in both South Dakota and Kansas.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: They thought they were the states that probably differed the most.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: And that's the cool thing that we have.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: The USDA isn't the only one conducting research and putting out their own opinion.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: So if you have, you know, may don't have the most faith in the USDA numbers, there's ulterior things that you can go off of.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: And Stonex does a very good job of independent research.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: As we look at this here on the livestock market discussion, I pop up a picture of Mexico because it's been on my mind recently.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: The Mexican border was this hot topic that you know absolutely just covered all of the livestock market news until kind of you know Trump pushed through some executive orders and made headlines there, and we've kind of forgotten about Mexico.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: We only imported 800 head of cattle yesterday.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: Now that's still a few decent loads, but definitely not near the volumes we were prior to the close, not even getting close.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: Not to mention the weeks before this, we were doing about a steady, you know, 200 head a day.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: So it'll be interesting to watch this as we move forward because we're gonna have more ports opening here for too long.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: Hopefully they can, you know, increase the rate at which we import cattle to make it worth our while.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: This is the price of diesel fuel compared to the price of gasoline currently in the United States.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: The green one is the price of diesel.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: But man, it has shot up recently just here in the past couple days.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: 2026 has been a wild ride already.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: But man, the price of diesel has skyrocketed, while the price of gasoline has gone up just a little bit, but not near at the rate that diesel has.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: And what we're kind of you know boiling this down to is that it's a refining bottleneck rather than a crude problem.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: Gasoline sits well below its own record, even as Brent hits 99.31 on a Houthy strike against a Saudi refinery skyrockets the price of diesel.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: Meanwhile, gasoline kind of holds still.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: This energy market is affecting things.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: Tommy's been on a lot of shows here recently.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: He's talked to Jesse Allen, he's talked to the cow guy, and all they want to hear about is the price of fuel, and for good reason, it's making headlines right now.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: Here's what's on the economic calendar for today.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: The NBA mortgage applications already came out at 6 a.m.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: this morning.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: As I'm speaking right now, the ADP weekly employment change comes out at 7.15.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: And a little bit after I probably put this out, the Stat Can Crop Report comes out at 7.30 a.m.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: Those are all central time.
