Transcript
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: Hello, everybody, and welcome back to another episode of the Tortured Fans Department podcast.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: I have Ryan with me.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: I'm Sean Boyle, as usual.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: Ryan's here.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: We're going to just have a laid-back episode.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: It's the middle of the summer.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: There's a lot going on.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: We're bringing you this after the 4th of July weekend.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: This episode is a bit unique.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: It's the first time we're just going to kick back, take our shoes off on one, and we're just going to talk about some recent concert experiences.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: So, Ryan, first of all, welcome to the program.
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: Glad to be here.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: Glad to have you back as always.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: Last week, we did a couple of music reviews for you.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: We dove deep into Olivia Rodrigo's new album, which the title is still too long for me to remember.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: So go check that out if you haven't.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: There's some little bits and bobs in there that are pretty good.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: We also did a record club episode, Born in the USA, Bruce Springsteen with Jake Myers.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: That was enjoyable.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: Now we're keeping the music train rolling.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: Ryan, we're going to start with your experience.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: You were at a couple of Goose concerts in New York City.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: First of all, just lay the groundwork.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: What was the transportation?
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: Like, how'd you get there?
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: What set the scene for the folks?
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: So I bought the tickets a while ago when they went on sale.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: I was still living in Texas.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: So I bought the tickets because I had been interviewing at a couple places on the East Coast.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: And my wife and I were like, all right, listen, if we get one of these jobs and we move to the East Coast, we're going to go to this MSG show.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: So I bought tickets for night one for the two of us.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: Long story short, reconnected with a very old friend from high school.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: Shout out Nicole and her boyfriend John.
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: Got together with them who I hadn't seen her in quite a long time, uh, which is really cool.
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: Up leading up to the show, I knew she was a big goose fan, her brother's a big goose fan as well.
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: And so a couple days before the show, she's like, you know, told me that she had some extra tickets for night two and wasn't able to sell them.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: And so she just offered them.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: So shout out to Nicole, such a real one.
- 2:07SPEAKER_01: And so I was fortunate enough to be able to go to both nights, which was incredible.
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: So obviously I'm in Virginia.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: We drove about seven hours, stayed with I have a family friend, an aunt who I've known forever, my mom's best friend for when she was five.
- 2:21SPEAKER_01: Uh her and her family live in North Jersey, so 40-minute train ride to the city.
- 2:25SPEAKER_01: So we drove up there, spent the weekend with them.
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: It was great to see some family as well.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: Kind of uh parlayed into a city weekend with seeing Goose.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: And even we saw a Broadway show as well.
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: First one for my wife and I.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: We got to see Chicago, which was very, very cool.
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: Amazing show, amazing talent, getting off on a tangent.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: But that is a transportation.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: That's how we ended up there.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: We took a late night train.
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: Obviously, Penn Station is right underneath MSG.
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: So when the shows were over, got on a you know midnight train out to back to New Jersey, and it was bada bing, bada boom, easy.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: That's awesome.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: Uh when you told me you were going to see Goose, originally it was just a one night.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: At least that's what I remembered.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: And then in the notes, I saw you had two nights.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: That makes sense now, the story behind why you went to both.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: Also great to hear you dipped your toe in the Broadway scene.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: That's that's good stuff.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: We could do a whole episode on that.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: I love to hear that.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: So I mentioned the concert was in New York City, Ryan.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: Tell me exactly where it was.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: Let's talk about the venue.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: It's obviously an iconic spot.
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: Uh, yeah, ever heard of the Mecca?
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: It was at Madison Square Garden, and it was extremely cool because it was the first event after the Knicks won the finals uh to take place at MSG, which is about as cool as it gets.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: The energy was crazy.
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: You the guys slinging finals, t-shirts out, champions.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: You got just the Knicks energy everywhere, and I know you're you're a hater, even though you did defend us on the last episode against Jeremy, who was being so slanderous and just ridiculous.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: But that is a combination of why this was such a cool experience because the city was buzzing.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: It was the day after the parade, everyone has still just got that high in the air, the energy, everyone's NYX, NYX, NYX, signs everywhere.
- 3:59SPEAKER_01: Um, so that part was really cool.
- 4:00SPEAKER_01: And then again, to get to set foot in the Mecca, the first event after my Knicks become NBA champions was was special for sure.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: It's a little bit gross, so I might edit that part out, just the whole the whole mix of it all.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: I didn't I didn't when I asked you to come on this, I didn't think there would be any residual NYX talk, but of course I should have known because this was at the garden that there would be.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: Why don't you we obviously are bit both big fans of Goose, you introduced me to them.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: Just give the listeners who may not be familiar with their music a little bit of what they're about.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: So yeah, the number one fun fact about Goose is that they went to my high school in Wilton, Connecticut, Wilton High School, shout out the 203.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: Um, so there's like a there's like a deep kind of heart thing there that is like, holy crap, these guys that are a couple years older than me that went to my high school are now selling out Madison Square Garden.
- 4:50SPEAKER_01: Like that is pretty cool.
- 4:50SPEAKER_01: So they are obviously, you know, you can use the term jam band.
- 4:53SPEAKER_01: That's at the end of the day what they are, you know, in the kind of realm of like a fish or like a widespread panic or uh, you know, that kind of world, which is not quite my world.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: You know, I I I like a quote unquote jam band.
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: Some of that stuff gets a little weird for me.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: And at moments, fish or uh goose can get a little weird for me at moments.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: Not probably not as much as you, but there are times.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: But at the end of the day, they are a jam band.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: Where I differentiate them though is that when I listen to fish or vice versa, or you know, anything that kind of goes down that road, I just and this is gonna be slanderous, don't cut me.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: I just don't find the songwriting that good and engaging.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: Like I think they're all just kind of vehicles for for the jams, which is cool and has a place.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: But to me, the difference is Rick uh and Goose and those guys, Peter, like the songwriting is awesome.
- 5:45SPEAKER_01: And they have some awesome catchy choruses that are also great jam vehicles, but as standalone songs as themselves.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: And I think you would back me up on this, like even just the album cuts, right?
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: Like, they're just good songwriters, and so that's why I really, really like Goose.
- 5:58SPEAKER_01: So, yeah, that's kind of the scene.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: They are very much up and coming, you know.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: I I think over COVID is really when they kind of rose, they started streaming themselves on YouTube, uh, and have since kind of blown up and now I've played Madison Square Garden three times, have played with Dave Matthews, Trey Anastasio from Fish, all these different festivals, have their own festival in Mexico, all these different things.
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: So have really risen kind of meteorically, and it makes me proud uh to be from the same town as them.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: I would definitely be proud as well.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: And honestly, it is a cool little claim to fame to be from the same high school as these guys.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: I do really enjoy them, and I agree with you completely.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: I'm not a huge jam band guy.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: It's weird because I love the instrumentation in a lot of the jam band's music.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: It's just sometimes I find myself extremely bored or kind of lost when songs go for 30 minutes, which I I know goose can be guilty of at times, but fish is guilty of all the time.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: That's why I've never gone too far into the fish world.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: But goose, like you mentioned, they're really good at writing songs and they oftentimes have really good melodies and choruses.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: So they'll put out studio versions of songs that are easy to go back to and I think would spread to a much wider audience, which is smart by them because once they're in as fans, once you get them to a show, they're going to enjoy just how good they are at their craft.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: So, really, I think it's a good model that they've put out.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: I really enjoy almost everything I've heard from Goose.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: You're right, there are times where some live performances can go seven or eight minutes too far into a jam.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: But that's I mean, hey, when you're at the show, you're not going to complain much then.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: It's really just when you're trying to listen out of that context where it could be a bit much.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: But uh overall, overall, two thumbs up on Goose.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: I I appreciate that, and I'm glad to have introduced you.
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: I also say one more thing.
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: I just think Rick's voice, like some of these jam bands, I just think the the lead singers like are a big turn-off.
- 7:55SPEAKER_01: Like, you're not you're not listening to the band to hear the guy sing, and so usually it's kind of mediocre.
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: But I think Rick Midteratunda is a a fantastic singer, which helps, you know, aesthetically when you're listening to just like an album cut.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: A hundred percent.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: He has a great voice, and uh, a lot of those other jam bands just they straight up can't sing.
- 8:13SPEAKER_00: So yeah, that's a big difference as well.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: Tell me how many times have you seen Goose before, and was there an opening act on the evening?
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: So this was special because this was my second and third time seeing them.
- 8:24SPEAKER_01: So having lived in Louisiana and Texas throughout most of my adult life, Goose, I would say, is far, far more prominent on the East Coast, right?
- 8:32SPEAKER_01: And and rightfully so.
- 8:34SPEAKER_01: That is their crowd.
- 8:34SPEAKER_01: So they typically tour from you know Boston down to like South Carolina and everything in between.
- 8:39SPEAKER_01: So I've only had one opportunity to see them.
- 8:41SPEAKER_01: It was in Dallas in 2022 in in like a ballroom in Dallas.
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: So it was, I don't know, maybe like two or three thousand people.
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: And that was four, yeah.
- 8:50SPEAKER_01: So that was four years ago.
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: That was the last time I had seen them, and I've been non-stop listening to them for the past four years.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: Like, this is my favorite band at this point.
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: And so to be able to go from that to then two nights at Madison Square Garden, like our hometown venue with tens of thousands of people packing it out was super cool.
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: And then opening act, no, no, well, no, they don't do that.
- 9:12SPEAKER_01: Uh, the show is slated to start at 7:30.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: They hit the stage about 7.50, and the encore ended the first night around 11:30, 11:45.
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: So about three and a half, four hours, and then the same thing the second night.
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: It really ended closer to midnight due to like an extended set break, which we'll get into why.
- 9:31SPEAKER_01: But yeah, so we're talking three and a half hours, and there is a set break in between, like a 20-30-minute set break, but it's it's a hefty show.
- 9:38SPEAKER_01: There's there's no time for an opener.
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: Honestly, sounds just like the Eros Tor.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: Really, not much difference, you know.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: Instead of, I think Taylor Swift was able to squeeze 42 or 43 songs into the Eros Tor set.
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: Goose might have played the over-under set at seven and a half over those three hours.
- 9:57SPEAKER_01: A third of the amount of songs.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: Why don't Ryan?
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: I'm just gonna pass you the ball and let you cook here.
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: Just talk me through the concert going experience, talk me through the show.
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: Don't spare any details.
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: Now's your time to shine.
- 10:10SPEAKER_01: Okay, so the cool part of this is that Goose put out an album on the 12th, so a week before the show called Big Modern.
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: Have you listened to it?
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: I have, yes.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: Okay, so they put out an album which at first listen, it took me a second, but I really like this album, and there are some some brilliant spots of it.
- 10:29SPEAKER_01: And so what I what I really appreciate was the kind of the the cool marketing around this whole thing, right?
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: They did a pop-up shop, the whole pink, yellow exclamation point, big modern.
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: It's like this whole brand that they've created around this album.
- 10:41SPEAKER_01: And so we we waited for the pop-up shop.
- 10:43SPEAKER_01: We went in, I got this shirt.
- 10:44SPEAKER_01: We like it, it was just like kind of this immersive thing, the big, you know, billboard outside MSG with goose and the pink and yellow.
- 10:51SPEAKER_01: So there's just kind of like just again hype around it.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: And so I think going into it, I was a little bit concerned that it was going to be we're we're just gonna hear this new album, right?
- 11:01SPEAKER_01: And I've only seen them play once, and seeing the new album would be cool, but like, man, if they just like play what play an entire night of just this new album, I'm gonna like not be thrilled.
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: Long term it would be cool, but like in the moment, man, like I want to hear some of the hits.
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: And so it will I I appreciated what they did because they did play a lot of the new album, but interspersed throughout older tunes, which I appreciated.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: So we can kind of start uh so night one.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: I just wanted to touch on that quickly.
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: That's an interesting thing.
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: I think the listeners may or may not know.
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: If you're a fan of jam bands, even going like The Grateful Dead, Dave Matthews, it's kind of a roulette to see what songs you're going to get on any given evening.
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: Whereas Anoa Khan, the concert I'll talk about in a bit, you are able to predict the set list very very easily and it stays the same throughout the tour.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: The jam bands they're known for switching it up.
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: The Grateful Dead, and when they had a residency in the sphere and throughout much of their tour and career would never play the same song on back-to-back nights.
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: I'm sure Goose is very similar in that way.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: You're probably not seeing the same song on back-to-back nights.
- 12:05SPEAKER_00: So it could be a great thing.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: And if you're an avid fan that goes to a ton of shows, it's an awesome thing.
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: But if you're going for the first time and you're a casual fan, you could leave having not experienced many of your favorite tunes.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: Thousand percent.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: That's a very good context because I forget I I am in this world, but most people aren't.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: So the majority of concerts I go to, speaking of, I saw Dave Matthews the week before with my dad, which was really cool.
- 12:28SPEAKER_01: That was my for my 23rd.
- 12:31SPEAKER_01: My 23rd time seeing Dave.
- 12:33SPEAKER_01: The point being that I'm in a different place with each of them.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: Dave, all I want is deep cuts.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: I go to Dave and I just want like the deepest cuts possible.
- 12:41SPEAKER_01: So when they start playing Crash Into Me, like I just sit down and like kind of cry to myself, which they did.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: And they opened with you and me, which was very tough.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: Too much.
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: They recovered though, got a shotgun, got a stone, got a couple good things.
- 12:53SPEAKER_01: American baby.
- 12:54SPEAKER_01: Anyway, with Goose, I'm not there yet, right?
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: Like, this is my second and third time seeing Goose.
- 12:58SPEAKER_01: I still haven't seen Hungersight live.
- 13:00SPEAKER_01: I haven't seen Arcadia Live.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: I haven't seen So Ready, Hot Tea at this point, right before the show.
- 13:05SPEAKER_01: So I'm like, I kind of want some of that, you know?
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: Like I haven't heard it live.
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: And they're good tunes.
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: Anyway, so I'll get back into it.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: Night one, Thatch Opener.
- 13:14SPEAKER_01: Thatch is an amazing song.
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: Not sure if you're familiar, but to me, it's like uh it's boom, boom, boom, boom, doom, doom.
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: It's got that perfect kind of opening line to a concert that really sets up the night really well.
- 13:25SPEAKER_01: And then we got so on the new album, there's a song called Savinger, which is really, really good.
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: And then the the concept of the new album is that there's like a song in a lot in like a couple cases.
- 13:35SPEAKER_01: There's a song and then some songs with parentheses afterwards.
- 13:38SPEAKER_01: It's like a weird goose thing.
- 13:39SPEAKER_01: But what it is is really it's a continuation of that first song.
- 13:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:43SPEAKER_01: So people have been calling it the Savinger Suite because it's Savager and then You Are Here and then Savinger Spell.
- 13:49SPEAKER_01: So it's like a three-song kind of like trio.
- 13:52SPEAKER_01: I'm trying to find the right word for it, but I can't right now.
- 13:55SPEAKER_01: Um where they kind of all go together.
- 13:57SPEAKER_01: So they start playing Savinger Live, you kind of have a feeling that this thing is coming, and it does, and it is magnificent.
- 14:03SPEAKER_01: I mean, truly, like again, I think my first go-around listening to the album, I didn't fully appreciate it.
- 14:07SPEAKER_01: But going back, the musicality of the whole thing is is incredible.
- 14:10SPEAKER_01: It's almost like a jazz kind of bassa kind of vibe afterwards.
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: And I came away, uh, a kind of a big takeaway was Cotter Ellis can play the freaking drums, man.
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: Like, this dude is unbelievable.
- 14:23SPEAKER_01: Three, three and a half straight hours of just ripping and like the finesse really, really good.
- 14:29SPEAKER_01: And and this song really highlights it.
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: So the Savager Suite was awesome.
- 14:33SPEAKER_01: Seekers on the Ridge part one and two, which I've been you know, chasing, one of my favorites as well.
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: I call Seekers on the Ridge one is uh Goose's two step.
- 14:41SPEAKER_01: So if you don't know, if you don't know this song, go back and listen to Seekers on the Ridge one.
- 14:45SPEAKER_01: Uh, do you are you familiar?
- 14:47SPEAKER_00: I love both these songs.
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: Okay, good.
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 14:49SPEAKER_01: Uh so to me, it's like that was awesome.
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: I've been waiting for that too.
- 14:53SPEAKER_01: Uh and then in set two, we got an Elmeg the Wise, which is really cool, more rare one that a lot of Goose fans are chasing, even like kind of ones that have been to double-digit shows.
- 15:02SPEAKER_01: So that was very cool.
- 15:03SPEAKER_01: Uh, and then the Empress of Organos closer to me was just like perfect.
- 15:07SPEAKER_01: Such a cool closer, great jam.
- 15:09SPEAKER_01: And again, one of another kind of like big picture note is like, yeah, some of these songs like they take a life of their own after the song ends.
- 15:16SPEAKER_01: So, like, you know, you get five minutes through, the song is over, and then we're off, right?
- 15:21SPEAKER_01: We're off to the races.
- 15:22SPEAKER_00: It's the song's ended, it really is.
- 15:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and so I to me, like being able to be there like live and see that happen was really cool.
- 15:31SPEAKER_01: Like I said, if I if I told you that I, you know, was completely amazed by every single second, I'd be lying to you.
- 15:39SPEAKER_01: But it serves a purpose in that you kind of have to get to those lower, darker moments at times to get to that peak, right?
- 15:46SPEAKER_01: And Rick is so good at doing that, where the band can read each other so well, and then they get to that peak, and it is goosebumps, it is lights over the crowd, everyone hands up, like going crazy.
- 15:57SPEAKER_01: Like, so so cool.
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: So, yeah, like uh, you know, your Empress has that kind of feel to it, the thatch, you know, in and out.
- 16:03SPEAKER_01: Uh, and some of the songs kind of go in and out of each other uh as well, which is really cool.
- 16:07SPEAKER_01: So night one was awesome, really, really, really good show, uh, and left a lot more where you're like, all right, there's some some gas in the tank for night two, like let's do this, and that's why I was so excited to go back.
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: To me, the standout, so night two opened with uh new tune media, or like it used to be called My Mind Has Been Consumed by Media.
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: Not my favorite.
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: I'll be straight up with you.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: It's my least favorite song on the new album.
- 16:27SPEAKER_01: I've never really liked it when they've played it in the past, so I was like, all right, you know, like where are we going with this?
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then you hear the the guitar intro to Hot T.
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: And the and everyone knows it's coming, and that is it took off from there, man.
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: Like that jam was incredible, and that one I like when they jam for a while, but it doesn't necessarily get dark, and that's what this one did.
- 16:52SPEAKER_01: So this was my favorite jam of the weekend where I didn't need to go to like this kind of quiet, dark place, like it just stayed high energy over the chords, which I love.
- 16:59SPEAKER_01: And I mean, Rick is just freaking unbelievable, man.
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: This dude has to be like, you know, a top 50 living guitar player, if not War.
- 17:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's kind of a unicorn because the his ability on the guitar is freakish, and then he's such a good singer, too.
- 17:13SPEAKER_00: That's seemingly songwriter.
- 17:15SPEAKER_00: So it's like you just don't get guys like him often, which I think for me is what separates Goose from all the other jam bands that I've heard, at least all the other jam bands that are completely off the deep end jam bands.
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I wouldn't really consider Dave into that mold.
- 17:29SPEAKER_00: Like Dave Jam, but they're not a jam band.
- 17:32SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 17:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, for sure.
- 17:33SPEAKER_01: So yeah, that's why I do appreciate Goose.
- 17:36SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 17:37SPEAKER_01: And speaking of Dave, I actually forgot to mention that they brought out for a lot of tunes throughout both nights, uh, saxophone player Stort Bogey, who was awesome and added so much to so many tunes.
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: So hot tea being maybe the highlight of it all, um, because there's a lot of room for kind of that saxophone jam at the end, and he was ripping.
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: So shout out Stor Bogey.
- 17:56SPEAKER_01: That was a treat uh to get kind of a five-piece goose uh over those two nights.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: Usually you only get four.
- 18:01SPEAKER_01: So night two, the hot tea jam was amazing, and then this the first set closes with slow ready, which I really like.
- 18:07SPEAKER_01: Love that's on.
- 18:08SPEAKER_01: Are you familiar with slow ready?
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes, okay.
- 18:13SPEAKER_00: I am in, I must say.
- 18:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I am I feel a bit offended.
- 18:17SPEAKER_00: I've been trying to tell you I like these guys.
- 18:19SPEAKER_00: Yes, I'm a bit I'm a big fan of both So Ready and Slow Ready.
- 18:24SPEAKER_00: I apologize.
- 18:25SPEAKER_01: Uh so slow ready was awesome.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: You hear it coming, you know it.
- 18:29SPEAKER_01: The song kind of ends, and then uh and then it gets into kind of that disco.
- 18:35SPEAKER_01: So that was really cool to see live.
- 18:37SPEAKER_01: Something I'd heard a million times on a record, but like was so cool to be there for.
- 18:40SPEAKER_01: Crowds going crazy, perfect end to a set, right?
- 18:43SPEAKER_01: It's got that high energy.
- 18:44SPEAKER_01: So they end the set.
- 18:46SPEAKER_01: So we're sitting there, and the set break's going kind of long.
- 18:50SPEAKER_01: It's like 30 minutes, 35, 40.
- 18:52SPEAKER_01: And uh my friend Nicole, her boyfriend, gets a text from somebody that's down in the lower level that someone it seems has deceased, and we are looking at each other like cannot believe like what is going on.
- 19:04SPEAKER_01: So we look down, lo and behold, half the section is taped off.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: MSG staff is there like cleaning up, and we are like beside ourselves, like, like cannot believe what is happening.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:19SPEAKER_01: So we're looking at each other.
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: It was like the all the energy was just sucked out, and like some people knew, some people didn't.
- 19:27SPEAKER_01: Like, if you were like locked in on your phone, like you knew kind of what was happening, like people started tweeting and read it and all this stuff, but like some people just genuinely didn't know.
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: And so we're looking at each other like there's no way they're gonna play a second set, right?
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: Like, how are they gonna come back on and do this?
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: An hour goes by and they come back out on stage, and so we're looking at each other like, are they really about to do this?
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: And they they start arrow and we're like, my god.
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: So in that moment was really weird, um, because it was like, Okay, you know, I want to enjoy this moment.
- 19:57SPEAKER_01: I'm seeing my favorite band play Madison Square Garden, but also like how much of this do they know about?
- 20:03SPEAKER_01: Like, what is going on?
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: Like, the energy is just super weird, and so we're kind of like looking at it.
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: It took like a song or two to kind of warm up, and then we're like, all right, like we may as well just like enjoy this moment, like let's just, you know, enjoy the concert.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: Thankfully, it comes out afterwards that it's pretty standard procedure for management and like the facility to not tell the band exactly what is going on in a situation like that.
- 20:27SPEAKER_01: So they knew that something was going on and they were delayed for like you know, a medical emergency or something.
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: But I do not believe, and they came out and said this, that they knew that someone had actually passed away until afterwards.
- 20:38SPEAKER_01: So that made me feel better, at least that they're like because they didn't say anything because they they didn't know.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: So that was like it at least gave me a sense of peace afterwards.
- 20:47SPEAKER_01: Like, all right, like they they're not like you know, crappy people, like they just they just did what they were told.
- 20:52SPEAKER_01: But yeah, really, really insane, like surreal kind of situation.
- 20:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's a crazy tragedy.
- 20:58SPEAKER_00: And also just to be there for that, it's so weird.
- 21:01SPEAKER_00: Like you said, I can only imagine what that's like.
- 21:03SPEAKER_00: The only thing I've seen at shows is I've been at Ed Sheeran a few times, and he's very cognizant and aware of people that are maybe struggling with something in the crowd, and he'll stop in the middle of the song and say, Hey, can you get this guy help right here?
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: And I've been there a few times for a hot Ed Sheeran show where he would stop and say, Hey, can we get water over this guy?
- 21:21SPEAKER_00: And then he'll reset the whole song.
- 21:23SPEAKER_00: But that's a much different scenario than and that even takes you out of it a second.
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: You're like thinking in the back of your head, oh, I hope they're okay.
- 21:31SPEAKER_00: I can only imagine knowing somebody passed away.
- 21:33SPEAKER_00: I believe they fell right from the second floor down to the first yes.
- 21:36SPEAKER_01: That's the other, right?
- 21:37SPEAKER_01: That's the other part of this, is just like the manner in which it happened.
- 21:39SPEAKER_01: Like, I cannot imagine being anywhere close to that and having heard the sound, seen anything.
- 21:47SPEAKER_01: I mean, like, just horrible.
- 21:49SPEAKER_01: And I believe it happened at the set break, and I was like locked in on my phone, like doing a couple things, like making sure our dog was okay here.
- 21:57SPEAKER_01: But like, if I wasn't locked in, I was just looking around the room like.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: There's a chance I you know, my eyes see and I just don't yeah, really I don't know how you stay in the show if you saw or experienced that.
- 22:08SPEAKER_00: No.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: And I think a lot of people left.
- 22:09SPEAKER_01: And I also and to Goose's credit, they've now put out a couple of uh like paid therapy sessions for fans that were there.
- 22:15SPEAKER_01: So like you can click and sign up and like get you know some mental health help if you need it from the incident.
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: So so yeah, so it was very tough to move on past that, you know, for 20, 30 minutes, but eventually kind of work your way towards the end.
- 22:28SPEAKER_01: A highlight of the show for for me in the second half was Big Modern.
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's a song that people have known for a while, uh, but with the album release being out, it just felt like kind of a new juice around it.
- 22:39SPEAKER_01: When that chorus hits and the again, the lights show over the crowd and everyone is just going nuts singing every word.
- 22:44SPEAKER_01: Like that was just like so cool.
- 22:46SPEAKER_01: And the coolest part about that was they actually they did Big Modern, then they did the Good Times End Time suite.
- 22:52SPEAKER_01: So it's another kind of one of those Good Times End Times uh Nocturne.
- 22:56SPEAKER_01: And actually, if you if you were listening, and uh and you're very good at this, I know, but and I'm not sure if you've seen the show, I think you have.
- 23:03SPEAKER_01: But does did did Nocturne sound like anything to you?
- 23:07SPEAKER_01: Like a TV show theme song.
- 23:09SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm struggling to remember what Nocturne sounds like, to be honest.
- 23:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so go back and listen to it after this.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: It's straight up the Severance chords.
- 23:19SPEAKER_00: Oh, really?
- 23:20SPEAKER_00: I here's the other thing.
- 23:22SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm not a Severance fan.
- 23:24SPEAKER_00: I've never seen Severance, so I'm not saying I'm not a fan, I just have never seen it.
- 23:28SPEAKER_00: Okay, and I know it's I know it's a good show, and just it's not on my watch list so far.
- 23:32SPEAKER_01: It is a top five show for me for sure, and the chords, and I always said that the music throughout it is so cool.
- 23:38SPEAKER_01: And then as I'm listening to the album for the first time, like, oh my god, these are the severance chords.
- 23:42SPEAKER_01: Super cool, super unique.
- 23:43SPEAKER_00: And I'm not a Ben Stiller guy because of his New York Knicks ties, so really just might not be a stay away from it.
- 23:49SPEAKER_01: My guy, it's my guy.
- 23:51SPEAKER_01: He's a fraud.
- 23:52SPEAKER_00: Went to the Met Gala, don't forget that.
- 23:54SPEAKER_00: Stop, stop, stop.
- 23:56SPEAKER_01: So we get the good times end times suite, which was really cool, into that nocturne thing, jam, jam, jam, jam, and then wrap the second set back around into Big Modern again to finish, which was really cool.
- 24:09SPEAKER_01: So found their way back into Big Modern to end the set.
- 24:12SPEAKER_01: So that was just really, really cool.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: But yeah, so a lot of a lot of great highlights, a lot of great jams.
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: Seeing them in that facility was incredible.
- 24:22SPEAKER_01: There definitely were a lot of songs that I was hoping for that I did not get, uh, and part of which I think so.
- 24:28SPEAKER_01: They played MSG for the first time last year, and they let it rip.
- 24:33SPEAKER_01: I mean, they played like way more songs than they usually do, way longer than they usually do, and basically played every hit.
- 24:39SPEAKER_01: And so my thought was like, all right, this, you know, this year their mindset was we're gonna play some some deeper cuts and some new stuff for the people that are now returning, which I don't blame them for.
- 24:49SPEAKER_01: You know, if I was there last year, that's probably what I would want.
- 24:51SPEAKER_01: But, you know, that's the cards I got dealt, and I will not complain for one second.
- 24:55SPEAKER_01: It was an incredible two nights.
- 24:57SPEAKER_00: And they are so aware too, goose specifically.
- 25:00SPEAKER_00: I'm sure other jam bands are, but I don't know if they're to the level of Goose.
- 25:03SPEAKER_00: Goose has like an algorithm where they go in city by city and they know what they played last time and they won't repeat based on that, or they'll continue a second part of the song.
- 25:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like that's awesome.
- 25:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's you're you're spot on.
- 25:17SPEAKER_01: I think it's Peter that keeps the the database.
- 25:20SPEAKER_01: And I love that stuff because I wish like DMB would do that.
- 25:23SPEAKER_01: Like that's I show up and I have no idea what DMB, what they're thinking, what Dave's got on his brain that day, and you just really never know.
- 25:30SPEAKER_01: But with Goose, like you can anticipate if I go to the same venue a couple years in a row, you're probably not gonna hear the same thing, which is very cool.
- 25:36SPEAKER_00: And it's honestly a nice touch too because they it shows they care about the fans, and like they each place they go to, it's like we care that you guys get the full experience because we know it's hard to travel for a show and things like that.
- 25:47SPEAKER_00: So, no, that's an awesome touch that they do.
- 25:49SPEAKER_01: And the other way that they care for fans is just the amount of content they put online, man.
- 25:53SPEAKER_01: Like after basically every show, you're getting a fresh, like 20 to 30 minute clip of the night before or whatever, almost.
- 26:00SPEAKER_01: And it it is to me like no other band does anything like that.
- 26:03SPEAKER_01: And it is it keeps people engaged, like it keeps me engaged when I get when I know that I wasn't at that show in Maryland a couple nights ago, but people keep talking about how good that Arcadia was, and 12 hours later, the art the full arcadia, 26 minutes, is on YouTube and I can watch it at work today.
- 26:17SPEAKER_01: Like that is just a level that no one else is doing that I really love.
- 26:22SPEAKER_00: Well, that's I think a Grateful Dead thing.
- 26:24SPEAKER_00: I honestly think the Grateful Dead started that back in the day.
- 26:27SPEAKER_00: They would it they would bootleg videos and DVDs and fans like they would encourage fans bootlegging and sharing.
- 26:35SPEAKER_00: It was like we want everyone to hear the music that can't come to the show, too.
- 26:39SPEAKER_00: So that's uh it's nice that they appreciate you in that way.
- 26:42SPEAKER_00: So really good stuff.
- 26:43SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm thrilled to hear about your experience, Ryan.
- 26:45SPEAKER_00: Sounds amazing.
- 26:46SPEAKER_00: So give me, give me uh where does it rank for you in terms of maybe some concerts that you've seen all time?
- 26:53SPEAKER_00: Is this are we talking these are two of the best shows you've ever been to, or is it just below that?
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: Uh that's a really good question.
- 27:00SPEAKER_01: I actually have a note in my phone and I haven't placed them in there.
- 27:03SPEAKER_01: So I got DMB when I was in the pit in Camden.
- 27:06SPEAKER_01: The John Mayer show is number two, the infamous John Mayer show.
- 27:11SPEAKER_01: That can't get knocked out of the top three.
- 27:13SPEAKER_01: No.
- 27:14SPEAKER_01: Stevie Wonder at three.
- 27:16SPEAKER_01: I think it's right in that kind of like four to eight range for me.
- 27:21SPEAKER_01: And I've seen quite a few concerts.
- 27:23SPEAKER_01: Like, I think I've got close to probably 50 on here, 50 or 60.
- 27:26SPEAKER_01: And that, yeah, I mean, I would put both of them in the top 10.
- 27:31SPEAKER_01: I don't have a problem saying that.
- 27:33SPEAKER_00: That's great.
- 27:34SPEAKER_00: Good stuff, good stuff.
- 27:36SPEAKER_00: We'll transition to a much different artist now and an outdoor show.
- 27:42SPEAKER_01: But a great one.
- 27:43SPEAKER_01: I'm very excited to hear about it.
- 27:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I like that we didn't talk about these shows with each other beforehand because normally the first thing we do is we're immediately deep diving and debriefing on the concert experience, and we haven't done that.
- 27:55SPEAKER_00: No, so it's all fresh and natural here for the program.
- 27:57SPEAKER_00: I saw Noah Khan at Citizens Bank Park, which Ryan, it's our old place of work.
- 28:03SPEAKER_00: Felt weird going in there for a concert.
- 28:05SPEAKER_00: I feel like we've been to shows there that are kind of those after-the-ball game, like stick around for all.
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: You know, it's a very niche example of Citizens' Bank.
- 28:16SPEAKER_00: Yes, I'm pretty sure that was an exact example.
- 28:19SPEAKER_00: I think that happened, yeah.
- 28:20SPEAKER_00: I was gonna say.
- 28:21SPEAKER_00: So, and I stuck around for a song or two, but I've never gone to Citizens Bank solely for a concert.
- 28:26SPEAKER_00: It was, of course, a lovely evening in the summer.
- 28:30SPEAKER_00: We didn't get any rain.
- 28:31SPEAKER_00: It was great seeing Noah outdoors.
- 28:34SPEAKER_00: I think there's a certain element of his music that lends itself to being outside for and his whole vibe, stick season.
- 28:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's obviously about being outdoors.
- 28:44SPEAKER_00: We talk about how there's a lot of songs on the Great Divide that are kind of campfire-y songs that you get that vibe in the summer.
- 28:50SPEAKER_00: I will say, if I could pick one thing to change, it might have been I would prefer sweater weather instead of 90 degrees, being a little sticky.
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: You know, you would love to see this concert with some foliage.
- 29:02SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 29:03SPEAKER_00: But other than that, other than that, the vibe going in was great.
- 29:07SPEAKER_00: As most of the listeners will know at this point, Noah Khan, his type of music, it is an indie pop soft rock blend, I would kind of sum it up as.
- 29:16SPEAKER_00: It's very singer-songwriter.
- 29:18SPEAKER_00: And one thing I was worried about, or not even worried about, but just interested in finding out was how would that translate to a stadium and filling an outdoor stadium.
- 29:27SPEAKER_00: That's a big thing to do, and only some artists can do that.
- 29:30SPEAKER_00: It's a lot easier to do these things in 18,000 seat arenas where the sound is very much more controlled.
- 29:36SPEAKER_00: It's a lot different to do that outdoors with 45,000, 50,000 and a lot of space to fill.
- 29:43SPEAKER_00: I'm happy to report, all good on that front.
- 29:46SPEAKER_01: I want to hear in that kind of vein, like what what's the band situation?
- 29:49SPEAKER_01: Like, what are we working with?
- 29:50SPEAKER_01: Like how many pieces, what kind of instrumentation were we dealing with?
- 29:54SPEAKER_00: So he changed it up a decent amount based on each act of the show.
- 29:58SPEAKER_00: So I'll kind of get into that as we go.
- 30:01SPEAKER_00: But for a couple of songs, it's Noah.
- 30:04SPEAKER_00: Most of the songs, it's Noah, his lead guitar player, a violinist, a drummer, and a couple other guys floating around in and out making some substitutions.
- 30:14SPEAKER_00: I felt like I wasn't locked in on exactly which ones that were there for which song, but it there was a full band for a majority of the show.
- 30:20SPEAKER_01: Okay, sweet.
- 30:22SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 30:22SPEAKER_00: And that was another good thing because I felt like you could get to a point where, you know, it's two singer songwriters, and it's just Noah with a guitar, and it's like, well, that's it feels a bit empty in a stadium.
- 30:33SPEAKER_00: But I think there was good moments where that was the case where it was just Noah, and there was great moments where it was the band on display too.
- 30:39SPEAKER_00: So most most of you know what kind of music Noah is.
- 30:43SPEAKER_00: I don't need to go too deep into that.
- 30:44SPEAKER_00: I've never seen him before, so this was the first time for me.
- 30:48SPEAKER_00: And another cool thing about this show was the opening act.
- 30:52SPEAKER_00: I did have an opener, and it was Gigi Perez.
- 30:55SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 30:56SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 30:56SPEAKER_00: Gigi Perez opened, and I'm a big fan of Gigi.
- 31:00SPEAKER_00: Now, I was like, wow, this is great.
- 31:02SPEAKER_00: Two birds, one stone.
- 31:04SPEAKER_00: It's tough when you're the opening act in a stadium.
- 31:06SPEAKER_00: I noticed this at the Aeros Tour.
- 31:08SPEAKER_00: I saw Phoebe Bridgers and Gracie Abrams at the Aeros tour, who are now huge.
- 31:12SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 31:13SPEAKER_00: But oftentimes when you're in a venue so big, you're not the one selling that out.
- 31:17SPEAKER_00: So a lot of people aren't in their seats.
- 31:19SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of moving, shuffling.
- 31:21SPEAKER_00: It's just a lot going on.
- 31:22SPEAKER_00: So it's sometimes hard to really make an impact on the listener, I would say.
- 31:26unknown: Yeah.
- 31:27SPEAKER_00: GG smashed it.
- 31:28SPEAKER_00: Like absolutely smashed it.
- 31:30SPEAKER_00: And I think in large part, her voice is like one of one.
- 31:33SPEAKER_00: I just don't know that I've heard a voice like that live.
- 31:36SPEAKER_00: It's unique, it's big, it can belt, but it's also like she can kind of talk sing and it sounds good there too.
- 31:44SPEAKER_00: It's just very unique, and you know immediately when she's singing.
- 31:47SPEAKER_00: And she just had a guitar in her hand with a full band and just rocked out, honestly, for seven, eight songs.
- 31:53SPEAKER_01: Like she was ripping.
- 31:54SPEAKER_01: I mean, you sent me a video.
- 31:55SPEAKER_01: Was she playing lead guitar?
- 31:57SPEAKER_00: She played lead guitar on a couple.
- 32:00SPEAKER_00: She in that clip, I believe she was not playing lead guitar.
- 32:03SPEAKER_00: Okay, but she was soloing with the girl playing lead guitar before I could get my phone out for that clip I sent you, which was all that I sent you from the whole night.
- 32:11SPEAKER_00: I didn't send you anything from Noah.
- 32:12SPEAKER_01: I was just like, this was I mean, it was awesome.
- 32:15SPEAKER_01: Really good.
- 32:16SPEAKER_01: I need you to put me on to like a couple songs that I need to like get into because I've heard her like features on a couple things, but I I've never heard any of her individual music.
- 32:23SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 32:24SPEAKER_00: And her most popular song is Sailor Song, and that's a big one.
- 32:27SPEAKER_00: I'm sure you've heard that.
- 32:28SPEAKER_00: You might not know it or attribute it to her, but it's a it's a good tune.
- 32:32SPEAKER_00: I don't know that she's exactly your cup of tea, but big respect for her, how she performs live.
- 32:37SPEAKER_00: Playing guitar and singing in front of a stadium, it's hard to do, I can imagine.
- 32:42SPEAKER_00: And she smashed it.
- 32:43SPEAKER_00: She covered summertime sadness in such a cool way.
- 32:47SPEAKER_00: Like she rocked it up and made it a little funky.
- 32:49SPEAKER_00: I loved what I heard there.
- 32:51SPEAKER_00: So 10 out of 10 from Gigi Perez really set the tone for the evening.
- 32:55SPEAKER_01: That's so cool.
- 32:57SPEAKER_00: And I also have to mention, as an aside, I went to the concert with our good friend Jeremy Good, the worm.
- 33:02SPEAKER_00: He's been on this program.
- 33:03SPEAKER_01: The worm.
- 33:04SPEAKER_00: He's been on this program.
- 33:05SPEAKER_01: Big Noah Guy the Worm.
- 33:08SPEAKER_00: Big Noah Guy.
- 33:10SPEAKER_00: He is such a big Noah guy, in fact, that he spent the entire Gigi Perez set in the Noah merchandise line and didn't didn't see a single minute of her.
- 33:19SPEAKER_01: Of course he did.
- 33:20SPEAKER_01: Of course.
- 33:21SPEAKER_01: Did he get a nice shirt or something at least?
- 33:23SPEAKER_00: He was in the line for a poster.
- 33:24SPEAKER_00: He came out without a poster.
- 33:26SPEAKER_00: Really tough.
- 33:27SPEAKER_01: He did get a shirt, but he was they run out of posters?
- 33:31SPEAKER_00: No, he just he didn't like the mechanism they gave him to carry the poster.
- 33:34SPEAKER_00: Apparently, he thought it would it would be ruined by the end of the evening.
- 33:38SPEAKER_00: He was complaining about a rubber band.
- 33:40SPEAKER_00: I couldn't be arsed.
- 33:41SPEAKER_00: I could not be arsed.
- 33:42SPEAKER_00: I said, you go wait in those lines.
- 33:44SPEAKER_00: The line for Noah, and this is something I want to talk about too.
- 33:47SPEAKER_00: They said it was the single highest grossing event ever at Citizens Bank Park.
- 33:51SPEAKER_00: What?
- 33:52SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 33:52SPEAKER_00: How is that right?
- 33:54SPEAKER_00: I don't listen here.
- 33:56SPEAKER_00: We're not a facts first program.
- 33:57SPEAKER_00: That's crazy.
- 33:59SPEAKER_00: But I can say at Citizens Bank Park, there was more people there than a traditional baseball game.
- 34:03SPEAKER_02: So that makes sense.
- 34:04SPEAKER_00: Checks out there.
- 34:05SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 34:05SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 34:06SPEAKER_00: And then the merchandise line, it was Eras Tour level, Ryan.
- 34:10SPEAKER_00: I'm talking.
- 34:11SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 34:11SPEAKER_00: We we were in the second level next to the Hall of Fame Club, and the line went well up into the third and almost the fourth level for merch.
- 34:19SPEAKER_00: There was none on the third or fourth level.
- 34:20SPEAKER_00: There was a second level, and it went up several ramps of stairs.
- 34:24SPEAKER_00: People missed an hour 15 worth of the opener or getting in there.
- 34:29SPEAKER_00: Like that's how long the line was.
- 34:30SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 34:31SPEAKER_00: And apparently they had a pop-up merch store at like 8 a.m.
- 34:35SPEAKER_00: on concert day that also had a line of like thousands of people.
- 34:39SPEAKER_00: So when you hear all this context, you could kind of see how this might have been a high-grossing day for the bank.
- 34:44SPEAKER_01: That's insane.
- 34:46SPEAKER_01: I didn't think like obviously I knew Noah Con had like a like a crap ton of fans.
- 34:52SPEAKER_01: Like that I knew that.
- 34:53SPEAKER_01: I didn't realize like the the level of like dedication.
- 34:56SPEAKER_01: Because I think that there's like a difference there.
- 34:58SPEAKER_01: Like showing up to a concert is one thing, but waiting hours for a shirt or a poster or something, like you gotta be really, really in the weeds with it uh to have that care factor.
- 35:09SPEAKER_01: Um so that's incredibly impressive.
- 35:11SPEAKER_01: Good for him.
- 35:12SPEAKER_00: Such a different level, and honestly, I wasn't expecting that either.
- 35:15SPEAKER_00: Like, I would no one's Taylor Swift, but there were elements of Taylor Swift to that.
- 35:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 35:19SPEAKER_00: Now the difference with Taylor Swift is she's able to do that in football stadiums for three consecutive evenings and like weeks beforehand.
- 35:25SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 35:26SPEAKER_00: So there's still a long way to go, but for sure.
- 35:28SPEAKER_00: Noah, I think in the northeast as well.
- 35:31SPEAKER_00: I don't know if this he's a very, very northeast kind of guy.
- 35:36SPEAKER_00: Just the way he writes his songs, he's obviously very tied to the Boston area.
- 35:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 35:40SPEAKER_00: So I'm sure the Fenway shows are something off the charts.
- 35:44SPEAKER_00: But I think you know what I'm saying.
- 35:45SPEAKER_00: Where I think this is exactly like if you were to pick his demographics where he's gonna sell tickets quickly, I think Boston, New York, Philly are high up on that list.
- 35:56SPEAKER_01: Definitely, and not dissimilar from Goose in that way, honestly.
- 35:59SPEAKER_01: You know, right there.
- 36:00SPEAKER_01: They go all around, but that's their bread and butters in that in that northeast corridor.
- 36:03SPEAKER_01: I gotta ask, were there multiple shows in Philly?
- 36:07SPEAKER_00: No, one.
- 36:08SPEAKER_01: So you were at so you were at the poop show.
- 36:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I guess before I get into a single song that was played, I guess we have to talk about the incident.
- 36:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, somebody shit on the floor.
- 36:17SPEAKER_00: Um, it was tough to be remembered in that light.
- 36:21SPEAKER_00: It obviously I could go ahead, you can you can rest assured it was not me.
- 36:26SPEAKER_00: It was down on the floor.
- 36:28SPEAKER_00: I was priced out of the floor.
- 36:29SPEAKER_00: So not me, not Jeremy.
- 36:31SPEAKER_00: So don't throw any accusations against us.
- 36:35SPEAKER_00: It was disgusting.
- 36:36SPEAKER_00: I didn't know about it until the next day.
- 36:37SPEAKER_01: I was gonna say, I was gonna ask you that if that was like a thing.
- 36:40SPEAKER_00: No, no, it was no there was no interruption to my knowledge.
- 36:43SPEAKER_00: The show was not impacted in any way.
- 36:45SPEAKER_00: I think Noah found out after the fact, and I found out way after the fact.
- 36:51SPEAKER_00: I mean, what are we doing?
- 36:52SPEAKER_00: I guess just a PSA, like don't shit in the wild, you know?
- 36:56SPEAKER_00: Like let's control our problems.
- 36:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's not even far off.
- 37:00SPEAKER_00: It's like kind of a kid's show, too.
- 37:01SPEAKER_00: Like, you know what I mean?
- 37:02SPEAKER_00: There's some younger folks there, it's not exactly like we're seeing a 70-year-old band here.
- 37:07SPEAKER_00: It's like absolutely the world.
- 37:09SPEAKER_01: And he's it's so funny how like he's made it a thing, and he like you know made Toronto promise not to all the stuff.
- 37:14SPEAKER_01: It's very funny how he's kind of like embraced it, but also it's like, yo, that's like actually not cool.
- 37:19SPEAKER_00: Like, don't do that.
- 37:20SPEAKER_00: Like, what are we doing?
- 37:21SPEAKER_00: I can't even imagine.
- 37:22SPEAKER_00: And of course it's Philly, too.
- 37:24SPEAKER_00: It's like, god damn it.
- 37:26SPEAKER_01: Thousand percent.
- 37:27SPEAKER_01: That's the other part of this.
- 37:28SPEAKER_01: Is like, as if Philly can't escape this reputation, someone goes and poops at a freaking Noah Con concert on the floor.
- 37:37SPEAKER_00: Just awful.
- 37:38SPEAKER_01: It's awful.
- 37:39SPEAKER_01: Tough.
- 37:40SPEAKER_01: Couldn't couldn't have been any other city.
- 37:42SPEAKER_01: Anyway, let's get into the music.
- 37:44SPEAKER_00: Let's start, let's hear about the music.
- 37:46SPEAKER_00: So we started off immediately with some rock songs, Ryan.
- 37:49SPEAKER_00: As rocky as Noah Con can get, I would say.
- 37:52SPEAKER_00: First song American Cars.
- 37:53SPEAKER_00: Love it.
- 37:54SPEAKER_00: Just high, high energy, big band.
- 37:57SPEAKER_00: And it it honestly, it captured the I think he struck the way he structured this show is a big takeaway for me.
- 38:02SPEAKER_00: I think he absolutely knocked out of the park.
- 38:05SPEAKER_00: It's a lot of different acts, but they flow in and out of each other so well.
- 38:10SPEAKER_00: And I think to do the first five songs or so, and they're all up tempo, they're all kind of rock songs, they're getting the energy in the in the stadium correct.
- 38:20SPEAKER_00: I think it was a great job by him.
- 38:22SPEAKER_00: He also did All My Love in this section.
- 38:24SPEAKER_00: That's a big hit with the crowd.
- 38:26SPEAKER_00: And then Staying Still, which is one from the record that I predicted would be one of the big ones on the charts.
- 38:31SPEAKER_00: And I don't know how it's doing on the charts, but it does have a lot of dynamics within the song that make for a really good live experience.
- 38:38SPEAKER_01: That's awesome.
- 38:40SPEAKER_01: I will I'll say this like I love American Cars.
- 38:43SPEAKER_01: I think it was maybe my favorite on the album.
- 38:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:45SPEAKER_01: And I think it's a perfect opener, like just such a good tone setter for that.
- 38:50SPEAKER_01: So I love that he picked that as the opener.
- 38:52SPEAKER_00: And to the stage itself is kind of like the backdrop of his house or something resembling the house that he grew up in, which is what a lot of this album focuses on, is those family dynamics and leaving home and all those things.
- 39:04SPEAKER_00: And he comes through a door, and then American cars is like they're already revving up to it, and it it there's a car on the side, like an old old timey American car.
- 39:13SPEAKER_00: It's a cool, it's a cool, well-laid out show.
- 39:16SPEAKER_01: Very cool.
- 39:17SPEAKER_00: Then the B stage, after those five or six, he moves to the B stage for haircut and downfall, just two, where it's kind of just him.
- 39:25SPEAKER_00: It's a lot more dialed back in terms of Oh, interesting.
- 39:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I can't remember honestly if there is a ton of other and they might be playing, but he himself is separated from the rest of the band.
- 39:37SPEAKER_00: They're not at all the focal point.
- 39:38SPEAKER_00: The focal point is on him, and they're much slower, sadder songs.
- 39:41SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 39:42SPEAKER_00: Those are they were nice, they weren't a highlight by any means for me.
- 39:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, just something but it but it flowed well, you know.
- 39:49SPEAKER_00: You can't you can't stay at here at a high level the whole show because you're gonna have peaks and valleys in terms of energy being expensed.
- 39:56SPEAKER_01: I like haircut a lot.
- 39:58SPEAKER_01: I kind of wish that it was a little bit.
- 40:01SPEAKER_01: I don't know, man.
- 40:01SPEAKER_01: I don't know how it's perceived publicly, but I it was one of my favorites on the album.
- 40:04SPEAKER_01: So it's interesting that that's how he chose to kind of do that.
- 40:07SPEAKER_00: And it was good live.
- 40:08SPEAKER_00: It wasn't spectacular, but it was good.
- 40:10SPEAKER_00: I think there's just some other highlights for me that those two were not something I would put in my top five.
- 40:16SPEAKER_00: The third act, he goes back to the main stage for some more big, big tunes, I would say.
- 40:21SPEAKER_00: It's She Calls Me Back, and I believe this is the point in the show where he does this fake phone call thing.
- 40:28SPEAKER_00: It's a it's a whole shtick, Ryan.
- 40:29SPEAKER_00: I I I have to say.
- 40:31SPEAKER_00: Not for me.
- 40:33SPEAKER_00: He answers the phone and picks it up in each city.
- 40:35SPEAKER_00: I guess there's a different theme or message.
- 40:38SPEAKER_00: And it's just it's a lighthearted, it's not very offensive in any way, but it was kind of like, what's that Twitter?
- 40:43SPEAKER_00: No Khan can't sell at stadiums.
- 40:45SPEAKER_00: And he just like smirks and hangs up.
- 40:46SPEAKER_00: It's like cutesy, and it's like, you know, I'm your music.
- 40:50SPEAKER_00: So save the life, maybe, but uh it's not offensive in any way to the point where it ruined any experience.
- 40:56SPEAKER_00: But I believe that's when he goes into She Calls Me Back, and then Dashboard and Dial Drunk again, some upbeat, energetic with the band.
- 41:06SPEAKER_00: Then he does a cool thing where he goes up on like kind of the roof of the house that I was talking about.
- 41:13SPEAKER_00: Like there's a ladder, I guess, and he kind of just sits down on the ledge of the roof, and it's him playing guitar for Willing and Able and really cool extended outro.
- 41:22SPEAKER_01: That's very cool.
- 41:23SPEAKER_00: And that's one of the moments where you're like, okay, he could do it, he could fill the stadium with just him if he needed to.
- 41:30SPEAKER_00: But the big winner for me, and I don't want to claim victory when you don't have all the context or information, but you were a great divide guy more than a porchlight guy, if I remember correctly.
- 41:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 41:41SPEAKER_00: And I was a big porch light guy and not as much a great divide guy.
- 41:46SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna send you the video.
- 41:47SPEAKER_00: You gotta watch this porch light, Ryan.
- 41:49SPEAKER_00: The last minute and a half of Porch Light are just guitar and violin solos, and they're absolutely feasting.
- 41:56SPEAKER_00: It sounded like a Dave Matthews song for the last two, honestly.
- 42:00SPEAKER_00: It was so good.
- 42:01SPEAKER_00: Whoa, Noah Levine was on the guitar and Nina DeVitri on the fiddles and violin all night.
- 42:08SPEAKER_00: Exceptional.
- 42:09SPEAKER_00: There was a few moments where you're just like, wow, she's a standout performer.
- 42:12SPEAKER_00: And the lead guitar player, no joke, like he didn't have a ton of Noah songs, aren't requiring a lot of guitarist, but when he got his chance to cook, he cooked.
- 42:23SPEAKER_01: Very cool.
- 42:24SPEAKER_01: I do send me that because I I definitely want to see that.
- 42:27SPEAKER_01: That's very I was gonna ask that too.
- 42:29SPEAKER_01: Like with a live show, you you you never know what you're gonna get as far as like how not like you know, jammy in a goose sense, but like jammy as far as like letting it rip a little bit versus kind of the album version.
- 42:40SPEAKER_01: So I was curious how he approached that.
- 42:42SPEAKER_01: Is that was that kind of throughout, or were there just kind of like spot here, spot here, spot here, where it got a little extended?
- 42:49SPEAKER_00: I would say the musicianship throughout was good.
- 42:51SPEAKER_00: There was a couple moments where it shined, but I think there was more than just I would say more than a couple, even I think it was almost in every one of those acts, there was a moment or two where it would be, oh wow, look at that musicianship, look at this.
- 43:05SPEAKER_00: And I I can't say I was blown away by the drums.
- 43:07SPEAKER_00: I wasn't paying too much attention to them.
- 43:09SPEAKER_00: I was really more focused on the guitar and violin because they were the two moving about the stage with Noah, and I think they were spectacular.
- 43:16SPEAKER_00: So I wasn't pleasantly surprised there.
- 43:18SPEAKER_00: Ryan, the fifth act, which they moved to the C stage, which is way out front, so it's like in the middle of the crowd almost, like in the middle of the floor seats.
- 43:28SPEAKER_00: This is what I will remember this show by.
- 43:31SPEAKER_01: Hold on.
- 43:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm just seeing this for the first time.
- 43:34SPEAKER_01: Ryan.
- 43:34SPEAKER_01: He did your he did your song, Tour de View.
- 43:38SPEAKER_00: Listen here, I'm gonna get to it.
- 43:40SPEAKER_00: One of the better stretches of songs written for like, hey, if you're gonna write some songs for Sean Boyle to get down with and play them in a show, this five song stretch is one of the better, just chosen song selection I can remember ever.
- 43:54SPEAKER_02: Oh wow.
- 43:55SPEAKER_00: We went from Orbiter, which I said on the album it wasn't my favorite for 80% of it.
- 44:00SPEAKER_00: I absolutely love Orbiter.
- 44:01SPEAKER_00: I was wrong.
- 44:01SPEAKER_00: Hand up.
- 44:02SPEAKER_02: Main, just a classic.
- 44:05SPEAKER_00: Paid time off with the whole band arrangement kind of behind him.
- 44:09SPEAKER_00: Like how sort of Lake Street Dive would do that.
- 44:11SPEAKER_00: And they bring to see that too.
- 44:13SPEAKER_00: Because I really like that song.
- 44:15SPEAKER_00: Freaking excellent.
- 44:16SPEAKER_00: And then he says, you know what?
- 44:18SPEAKER_00: We're not doing Dan tonight.
- 44:20SPEAKER_00: Sean Boyle's in the house.
- 44:21SPEAKER_00: The torture fans are in the house.
- 44:23SPEAKER_00: They said, We're going to make an exception.
- 44:25SPEAKER_00: We're going to do all them horses.
- 44:26SPEAKER_00: The tour debut, which is the debut of the song, because this is the first time he's touring.
- 44:31SPEAKER_01: So that's cool, dude.
- 44:34SPEAKER_01: That's very cool.
- 44:35SPEAKER_01: You are on record saying how much you like that song.
- 44:38SPEAKER_00: It's my favorite from the album.
- 44:39SPEAKER_00: He did it.
- 44:40SPEAKER_00: I was absolutely pumped when I heard the first few notes.
- 44:44SPEAKER_00: I was it was excellent.
- 44:46SPEAKER_00: It exceeded expectations.
- 44:47SPEAKER_00: It's better than the recorded version.
- 44:49SPEAKER_01: I'm so happy for you.
- 44:51SPEAKER_01: That's a very cool moment for you.
- 44:53SPEAKER_01: For real.
- 44:53SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah.
- 44:54SPEAKER_01: Especially because it's not part of the set list.
- 44:56SPEAKER_01: Like, that's the I mean, that's the crazy part.
- 44:58SPEAKER_01: Like, you heard the first time that song was ever played live.
- 45:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 45:03SPEAKER_01: After going on record, picking it on our on our little podcast, saying that you it was like, you know, a top top two song on the album for you, which was like kind of a stretch at the time.
- 45:13SPEAKER_01: You deserve that.
- 45:14SPEAKER_01: I'm very happy for you.
- 45:15SPEAKER_01: That's that's amazing.
- 45:16SPEAKER_00: And honestly, he I'm not ruling him out of being a listener, you know.
- 45:20SPEAKER_00: When you see stuff like this, when you see stuff like this, it's hard to doubt.
- 45:24SPEAKER_00: So and then he wraps up that section with The View Between Villages, the extended version, which I mean that's just another one where the build of that song in a stadium and everybody knowing the words, it's really, really cool to see that live.
- 45:37SPEAKER_00: So I was all in on that little C stage thing that he did.
- 45:41SPEAKER_00: I I would sign up to watch that six straight times, to be honest.
- 45:45SPEAKER_00: That's amazing.
- 45:46SPEAKER_01: I'll say this too.
- 45:47SPEAKER_01: I mean, kind of a mirror similarity of our two experiences was that we each got to hear our respective artists play things for the first time ever live, which is very cool.
- 45:57SPEAKER_01: Like you get that, I get some stuff off of you know Big Modern, where you know, 20 years down the road, when that's like a classic, we'll be able to look back and be like, I was there the first time they ever did this.
- 46:08SPEAKER_01: Like, that is pretty cool.
- 46:10SPEAKER_00: It's awesome.
- 46:11SPEAKER_00: And this, yeah, that's that's a very good point.
- 46:13SPEAKER_00: I'm glad you brought that up.
- 46:14SPEAKER_00: Also, it's cool because this was the first stadium tour or stadium show of the tour.
- 46:19SPEAKER_00: He had only been inside an arena for the two shows in Orlando.
- 46:23SPEAKER_00: So this was the first time he was in and he mentioned that several times, like how this was like a dream.
- 46:28SPEAKER_00: Because I think the only stadium he's ever played before here was Fentway.
- 46:31SPEAKER_00: So I could be wrong on that, but in terms of like selling out a stadium himself, I think this is the first tour he's done that throughout the whole tour.
- 46:39SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 46:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 46:41SPEAKER_01: Can I ask you a question?
- 46:42SPEAKER_01: So you said that is where he usually plays Dan there and he subbed it out.
- 46:46SPEAKER_01: Is that right?
- 46:47SPEAKER_00: That's what the apparently I didn't know I didn't look at the set list going in, but what I was told by multiple people was that instead of playing Dan, he played all them horses.
- 46:55SPEAKER_01: I'm curious what the uh was the crowd as excited as you were because Dan is like uh yeah, like Dan's like a TikTok song, you know, like that one's gotten big.
- 47:06SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 47:06SPEAKER_00: I don't think the crowd was as in, which made it more special for me.
- 47:10SPEAKER_00: I was just a lot of it's and I will say the people I was standing around, good vibes.
- 47:15SPEAKER_00: A lot of them knew every word, just fellow, like they they were in the mix too.
- 47:18SPEAKER_00: They knew Main, they knew that they knew some of the there's really not a ton of deep cuts because he's only got three albums to really choose from, so it's not a ton.
- 47:27SPEAKER_00: But yeah, no, I I think people would have preferred Dan.
- 47:30SPEAKER_00: I would have preferred Dan to a couple songs we heard, you know, Tonight, Tonight, tonight, didn't need that.
- 47:37SPEAKER_01: Go back to our clip.
- 47:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, we we don't need we didn't need that one, but there was nothing egregious in terms of the set list, which was good.
- 47:46SPEAKER_00: And then as he rounds out the show, he goes back on the main stage with some clear bops, kind of like northern attitude, great divide, one last time getting the people going.
- 47:54SPEAKER_00: Then he does orange juice, which is not in that same mold, I would say, but uh the end of that song after it starts so tender, it it's really good.
- 48:05SPEAKER_00: It it was one of my favorites from the evening.
- 48:08SPEAKER_00: Wow, uh he ends he ends with those songs in act six, and then of course we hadn't heard stick season yet, so we knew there was an encore coming.
- 48:18SPEAKER_00: And Ryan, I think you would love this encore because guess what he does?
- 48:22SPEAKER_00: He starts the encore off with end of August, and it's a natural silence, crickets, you start to hear the the outdoor, the the build of end of August, and he brings out a horn section for the encore.
- 48:38SPEAKER_00: All three get a horn section, wonderful touch.
- 48:43SPEAKER_00: This version he so he does end of August, then he goes into homesick, which is kind of a belt it sing-along song with the horn section, sounded incredible.
- 48:52SPEAKER_00: I'd need to go back and watch it.
- 48:54SPEAKER_00: It was late in the evening, but I was loving, absolutely loving that.
- 48:58SPEAKER_00: And then, of course, he ends with Stick Season, which it's it is a great song.
- 49:02SPEAKER_00: It's it's cool to have say I've seen that live and sang along with people.
- 49:06SPEAKER_00: I thought the arrangement for Stick Season was actually awesome.
- 49:08SPEAKER_00: We got some solos to end the show that encased everybody in it.
- 49:12SPEAKER_00: Cool, very cool, really good.
- 49:14SPEAKER_00: It's just that song, it's kind of it's overstayed its welcome for me.
- 49:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so it's it's a it's ants marching.
- 49:21SPEAKER_00: Correct.
- 49:21SPEAKER_00: But it's awesome.
- 49:22SPEAKER_00: But you know, it would it would be like if you went to see Hansen and didn't get um bop, you know.
- 49:31SPEAKER_01: Everyone's there, yeah.
- 49:32SPEAKER_01: You gotta yeah, you gotta leave leave the people happy.
- 49:35SPEAKER_00: And then just kind of my takeaways like for me, the two songs I wish I got were Dan and Forever.
- 49:40SPEAKER_00: I wish I got those two.
- 49:42SPEAKER_00: I would have swapped out a few, but who cares?
- 49:44SPEAKER_00: It was a great show.
- 49:45SPEAKER_00: A couple of key takeaways.
- 49:47SPEAKER_00: Noah he's so unique and talented in the way that he can be a singer-songwriter, and almost all of his songs are sad, but nearly everyone can go to a concert, sing every word, and come out feeling like that was a great uplifting experience.
- 50:03SPEAKER_00: That's a rare thing.
- 50:05SPEAKER_00: And I'm not sure how many artists have that.
- 50:07SPEAKER_00: I will say, moments of the show felt very similar to the Eros Tour, kind of how I mentioned, where it's a massive crowd, it's outdoors, and the fans knowing every single word.
- 50:17SPEAKER_00: I'm just not so sure I've been to a ton of shows where every fan knows every word, like Stick Season and even a couple others, New Perspective, All My Love.
- 50:26SPEAKER_00: I would say those three.
- 50:28SPEAKER_00: Even the dads who were bringing their 14-year-old girls to the show knew every word to those songs.
- 50:34SPEAKER_00: And that's kind of a unique experience to have every single person outdoors singing along.
- 50:39SPEAKER_00: I don't think that's very common.
- 50:41SPEAKER_01: Super cool.
- 50:42SPEAKER_00: So that was neat.
- 50:44SPEAKER_00: The I will say the other thing, I kind of mentioned this with the phone call bit, but uh Noah's very goofy in how he performs.
- 50:52SPEAKER_00: So you're in the middle of a super sad, gunt-retching song, and he's kind of making googly eyes, like these weird faces that are kind of like, oh, they don't match what you're singing.
- 51:02SPEAKER_00: Like you're singing a really sad thing, and the way your body language is not conveying the same thing, it's like making funny faces and stuff.
- 51:10SPEAKER_00: And I've seen Gracie Abrams and Phoebe Bridgers who are, I think their strength is like just connecting with the audience and you're hanging on every note because you can almost feel the pain that they're singing, and it's such a special gift.
- 51:22SPEAKER_00: And there's some Noah songs that require that, I think.
- 51:25SPEAKER_00: Like when you're listening to them in your headphones, you're like, oh you know what, you know what I'm saying?
- 51:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 51:30SPEAKER_00: And then you're sitting on stage and he's doing like a goofy face and like smirking.
- 51:34SPEAKER_00: And I was like, I don't know necessarily that it was a bad thing, but it was just something I noticed.
- 51:38SPEAKER_00: And it might be a coping mechanism, like a way for him not to like be on stage.
- 51:42SPEAKER_00: But I will say, during Orbiter, I'm almost positive I heard him say, Oh, what's up, Tyrone Mings?
- 51:48SPEAKER_00: And Tyrone Mings is a Premier League footballer, and that was a big soccer fan, so maybe it was Tyrone Mings.
- 51:53SPEAKER_00: He might not have said that.
- 51:55SPEAKER_00: I can't find any video evidence uh that he did, but I swear I heard him say what's up, Tyrone Mings, like in the middle of the beginning of Orbiter, which is like a gentle, gentle song.
- 52:06SPEAKER_01: What?
- 52:07SPEAKER_01: You got it some kind of video footage of that.
- 52:10SPEAKER_00: That I've been trying and I and I he said something, I can assure you.
- 52:13SPEAKER_00: He he said what's up or something to someone right like a second before he started singing.
- 52:20SPEAKER_00: And it was just kind of like, oh, that's weird, you know.
- 52:22SPEAKER_00: I just wouldn't have expected, I would have expected you to have me hanging on every note, you know.
- 52:27SPEAKER_01: But then, like, like yes, but also we watched that documentary that he made, and like I'm not like stunned, it just feels like that's kind of who he is, you know.
- 52:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, for sure.
- 52:39SPEAKER_00: And I maybe I hadn't done research ahead of time because I kind of wanted my first experience to be my first experience, which was great, and I'm glad I did, but it was just something I noticed that like I hadn't seen before an artist.
- 52:50SPEAKER_00: Usually they're fully immersed in the exact tone they're trying to convey, and I just think that was a little bit different for Noah.
- 52:57SPEAKER_00: In terms of where this stacks up for all-time concerts, it's tough because I've been so lucky.
- 53:02SPEAKER_00: I think, like you, we've been to so many good shows.
- 53:06SPEAKER_00: I don't know that it cracks my top 10.
- 53:10SPEAKER_00: It's close, and I will say that's honestly a testament to just being like incredibly fortunate to go to can you throw a couple out there, a couple of your top ten.
- 53:19SPEAKER_00: Well, of course, the John Mayer show that we were both at when we were in the last row and got called to the first row.
- 53:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that was, I mean, it doesn't get much better than that.
- 53:27SPEAKER_00: The Eras Tour, I think each time, I went four times, I think each time it was better.
- 53:33SPEAKER_00: And it was the same show except two songs.
- 53:36SPEAKER_00: That that says enough.
- 53:37SPEAKER_00: I will say I would probably prefer the Mount Joy concerts I've been to.
- 53:41SPEAKER_00: I've seen them at the man back-to-back years.
- 53:44SPEAKER_00: I think maybe for me, I would maybe prefer those.
- 53:47SPEAKER_00: The Gracie Abrams at Red Rocks, Two Nights, both of those I would prefer.
- 53:51SPEAKER_00: So all right, yeah.
- 53:53SPEAKER_00: Dave Matthews, I've seen him a couple times.
- 53:55SPEAKER_00: The time I saw him in Montage Toyota Pavilion and Scranton.
- 54:00SPEAKER_00: I love that.
- 54:01SPEAKER_00: What a show that is.
- 54:02SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 54:04SPEAKER_00: So, yeah, there's been several.
- 54:06SPEAKER_00: Ed Sheeran, I would say, at the link, outdoors, that was also really cool.
- 54:11SPEAKER_00: So, I mean, it's right in that mix towards the event capital, you know.
- 54:14SPEAKER_00: I I wouldn't put a number on it exactly.
- 54:16SPEAKER_00: It could be eight, could be twelve, whatever.
- 54:18SPEAKER_00: Sure, sure.
- 54:18SPEAKER_00: It was a great show, and I think Gigi Perez, I need to re-emphasize just how good she was because she she stood out as well.
- 54:25SPEAKER_01: That's so cool, and it's just a shame that people just are not locked in in moments like that.
- 54:30SPEAKER_01: Like, it's never gonna be the case.
- 54:32SPEAKER_01: That's gonna be the what happens in the opening act, but like, man, like you can get see some really special talent in spots like that, and I'm glad you were able to enjoy it at least.
- 54:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Jeremy, prime example, Jeremy Goods having having a laugh in the merch line.
- 54:47SPEAKER_00: You know, oh man.
- 54:48SPEAKER_00: I went like I literally he went to the merch line probably 20 minutes before Gigi started.
- 54:53SPEAKER_00: I want to say she played for 40.
- 54:56SPEAKER_00: And I went, got a drink, went to the bathroom after she ended, and then walked up to check on Jared, see where he was, and he was still a half hour away from being done.
- 55:08SPEAKER_00: That's how long this line was.
- 55:10SPEAKER_00: He got done, he got done 15 minutes tops before Noah started.
- 55:14SPEAKER_01: I I I mean, I hope it's the best t-shirt he's ever bought in his life.
- 55:17SPEAKER_01: It is a nice t-shirt, it's a nice t-shirt.
- 55:20SPEAKER_00: That's insane.
- 55:21SPEAKER_01: Oh did he get you anything?
- 55:23SPEAKER_00: Like, did you get anything or not?
- 55:24SPEAKER_00: No, I didn't want anything.
- 55:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm not a huge like spend the exorbitant amount to get the concert version of something, you know.
- 55:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's fair, that's fair.
- 55:32SPEAKER_00: So, no, I that would he he did offer it.
- 55:35SPEAKER_00: It was great, a lot of fun going with Jeremy.
- 55:38SPEAKER_00: Just not for me to wait in a merch line and miss any music.
- 55:41SPEAKER_00: I would say so.
- 55:42SPEAKER_00: Ryan, this was fun.
- 55:43SPEAKER_00: I I'm glad we kind of had a I mean we could do this, isn't even like work, this is just shooting the shit up the concert.
- 55:49SPEAKER_00: This is great for us.
- 55:51SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 55:51SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 55:52SPEAKER_00: So I appreciate you coming on.
- 55:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, bro.
- 55:55SPEAKER_01: I yeah, I enjoyed it.
- 55:56SPEAKER_01: Uh, similarly, like I was listening.
- 55:58SPEAKER_01: So, like I said, cool thing about goose, like the second night was on Amazon Prime, so I was listening to it at work today, and uh, I was just like, um, just pumped to talk to you about it, like to just tell you about it, like just like whether we're on a podcast or not, you know.
- 56:11SPEAKER_01: So, this was a lot of fun.
- 56:13SPEAKER_00: It's perfect that we have this podcast as a platform to just do this.
- 56:17SPEAKER_00: So that's great.
- 56:18SPEAKER_00: I'm excited as well.
- 56:20SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm happy actually that we were able to get on here and I think the structure of it was fun.
- 56:27SPEAKER_00: I think letting you go and all talk all about your concert.
- 56:30SPEAKER_00: Hopefully, I'm sure more people know Noah than Goose.
- 56:33SPEAKER_00: Hopefully, we maybe could gain a few goose fans out of this.
- 56:35SPEAKER_00: I know spreading the good word might help.
- 56:37SPEAKER_00: Would love that.
- 56:39SPEAKER_01: Start start with the classics.
- 56:40SPEAKER_01: Your arcadia is probably gonna draw you in, right?
- 56:43SPEAKER_01: And then you kind of get dig deeper and deeper, but there's so much good stuff in that catalog.
- 56:48SPEAKER_00: Madalena, that's another one I think could dig people in.
- 56:50SPEAKER_00: That's yeah, good royal.
- 56:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there's a couple that are like easy.
- 56:55SPEAKER_01: Uh uh Dustin Hoffman's a great one from me personally, one of my favorites.
- 56:59SPEAKER_01: So, but yeah.
- 57:01SPEAKER_00: Good stuff, happy to have you on.
- 57:03SPEAKER_00: We'll be back with some more normal episodes later this week.
- 57:06SPEAKER_00: Listeners, thank you all for tuning in, and until next time, take care of the colour.
