- 0:36SPEAKER_00: Because over here, success ain't just about the money you make.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: It's about the life you build, the people you impact, and the legacy you leave behind.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: It's your boy AD the Great, and you already know what time it is.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: We ain't just talking success.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: We chasing more.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: Now let's get into it.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: So for today's episode, it's really based off of being a father, husband, and entrepreneur while also trying to create a better future for your family.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: And I just really feel like this is a necessary episode because there's a lot of people out there, a lot of husbands, um, just trying to find a way to find financial freedom for their family because they work day in and day out, and some of them don't find the answers they need, and some do.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: So it's just like I want to share my success and my failures, and I want to show show you guys what it really took to actually keep the confidence to keep going and pursuing that financial freedom.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: So basically it's just like, who am I doing this for?
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: Is what I ask myself all the time.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: I'm really, at first I I was doing it for myself because I was trying to for be that, you know, the of that successful person that I always wanted to be on growing up.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: Growing up, my mom, she always told me that I was built for something greater.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: And my my father also believed that too.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: My dad, rest in peace, he pretty much just always told me I was his rocket scientist.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: And that meant a lot to me.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: That meant the world to me because I knew that he knew that I was built for greatness and I was built for success.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: And I knew I couldn't let him down.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: So I was always rocking with that.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: But it hit you different once you once you get married and you hit that adult life, and you know you can't play no games because you got other lives in your hands.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: And so growing up, I just had to account for myself.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: And I tried so many things.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: Like I tried me and a an independent barber and I got in trouble and all this other stuff with that, with the state, and and I need I got and I got hit with a cease and disorder so fast with trying to do that.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: That's how successful it was.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: But but I won't get into that, you know.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: I'm not gonna get into that part.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: But here's something I do want to get into, though.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: Basically, everybody they really talk about wanting to be successful, and everybody wants to build businesses and stuff like that and make the money, be financially free, just so they can change their family's lives.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: But nobody really talks about what happens when you're trying to be a good husband and pr and a present father at the same time while working your nine to five.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: Those and and on top of that, chasing your dreams, like no one really hits how hard like hits that hard, and that's exactly why I'm here to talk about today.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: Uh so basically what made me become want to become an entrepreneur is it I felt like one, I felt like it was always ingrained in me.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: It was always ingrained in me to become successful.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: And I never I've just been a hard-headed kid.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: Like, I never wanted to be told what to do.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: Now I can listen to orders, I can get the job done, I can work in factories, I can work for somebody because I know there's a greater purpose at the end of it, like there's something I'm looking for at the end of it, and honestly, everybody's looking for a paycheck at the end of the day, and you're not trying to get fired in this mug.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: So I knew to keep my mouth shut.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: But it was always killing me on the inside because I if I want to go go to the bathroom in in Pibra, I can I should be able to do that.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: I'm potty trained.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: I'm 30 years old.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: I shouldn't have to ask permission to go to the bathroom.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: I shouldn't have to let nobody know that what my whereabouts, you know.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: Like I shouldn't, I shouldn't, you shouldn't know that much about me.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: Put it like that.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: Like, here's here's something crazy, too, that really like pissed me all the way off at a job.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: I actually got in trouble for going number two, bro.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: Like, I got in trouble, like, for taking care of my business.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: Like, yeah, the machine should be running and stuff like that.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: And I was never known for not hitting my numbers because honestly, the job that I had at the time, and I'm not about to say the job's name, because I am not about to give them no type of clout because this job did me so dirty.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: And I'll tell y'all about that in one in another episode.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: But long story short, I'm and the goal for the day was always hit 30,000 and up and and and making the product.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I I hit 45,000 and 50,000 today just because I can.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: And and I did it just so they can get off my back and stuff like that.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: So I took I I went to the I went to the bathroom, you know, stomach flipping this courses early in the morning, you know, you gotta do the do in the morning, whatever.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: And these these people had a nerve to tell me that I was taking too long and it shouldn't take that long to go.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: How are you gonna tell me how long my bowels take?
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: Answer me that.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: Let's be very serious here.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: So that's what pissed me all the way off.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: And it's just like timed breaks on when you can get food, you can clock out if you leave the premises and this, this, and that.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: That never was cool with me.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: I've always, always wanted to be my own boss and have my own set schedule.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: And what I it it the biggest eye opener that I ever had was I was on my way to work, and honestly, I had a job lined up that I was waiting for until, you know, I was working this job, had another job lined up, and I was just working this one until the next one came.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: I was so fed up with this job because they dropped a hot tub on me, man, and I was just like, I'm so done with this.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: This this other job that I'm waiting on is cake, and I can't wait to get to it.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: So it's a Friday, and I'm driving to this job, and I was like, you know what?
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: No, sorry, excuse me.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: It's a Wednesday, and I'm driving up to this job, and mind you, I get paid early.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: So I got my paycheck early.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: I I'm I'm walking, I'm I'm not walking, I'm driving up to this job, and the sun's coming up, and boy, I skipped that entrance.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: I didn't even turn into the job.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: I went down the street, went to McDonald's, got me a sausage, egg and cheese, McMuffin, a Hashbro, and I went to Starbucks and got me a coffee.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: And I enjoyed myself.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: I enjoyed my freedom watching that sun go up, seeing all the business people, you know, walk in with their suit and tie, or just walking in, knowing you knew that they were money, they were business, they were in control of their own time.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: And if I feel like one of them, that was the biggest eye opener I've ever had in my life, and I'm still chasing that to this day.
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: Along with the fact that when we um we had a pandemic, um, y'all everybody know the pandemic, they're having COVID and stuff.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: I started a business back in 2018 called Clever Kicks.
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: Um it's a sneaker restoration business that I still do to this day, honestly.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: Um, but during the pandemic, we were popping left and right.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: And that we were popping so well that I was receiving orders from out of state and stuff, and I'm making money hand over fist.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: I'm making so I'm not working right now.
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm not I'm not off because of the pandemic.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: I don't have a job at all.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: And matter of fact, I just got fired from a job because I had COVID.
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: And once I got over it, I was like, you know what, I'm about to just press clever kicks and I'm about to just get to it.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: I got to it, got organized.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: Brie was helping me with the scheduling.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: And for those who don't know, Brie's my wife, and she was helping with the schedules.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I had post notes on the walls and stuff, and we're making money.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: I'm making money, hand or fist.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: Like we were just making it, and it got to the point where she was counting money for me, and I had made over a thousand dollars in a day, and this is multiple days in a row where I was like, alright, so we pay this bill, this bill, this bill, we caught up.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: Now I'm still making like eight to nine thousand dollars per day, pushing it, and honestly, that was the most beautiful moment ever, ever, and I'm not playing.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: It was so beautiful because we weren't worried for nothing, and that's another thing I'm chasing to this day, not with clever kicks in particular, like excuse me, like clever kicks.
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: Honestly, I pray that one day that we make more than that, you know.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: We do what we gotta do where I need help and stuff.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: But honestly, I want something bigger and greater, something that I know I can take this and take it to another level and help other businesses thrive.
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: And people coming to me, say, how can you help me with my business?
- 10:15SPEAKER_00: Like, I reached, like, I'm so proud of myself, and I'm I'm gonna get off, I'm getting off topic.
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: I networked with somebody, man.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: Like, I like took time out of my day to get out of my comfort zone, hit somebody up, not knowing if they're going to read it, not knowing anything, for them to go ahead and accept me and want to help me become greater.
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: I told myself before 2026 ends, I need to network with one person first before the year's over.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: You don't understand the confidence this gave me.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: I'm about to start talking to everybody, honestly.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: Because honestly, what are we scared to hear?
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: Well, we shouldn't be scared to hear the word no.
- 11:01SPEAKER_00: But I'm about to I'm getting ahead of myself.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: Let me get back to it.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: So what me what made me become want to become an entrepreneur?
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: Just having freedom.
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: Having freedom and the potential to be financially free, honestly.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: And being happy, right?
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: Because I can like I can work a nine to five, but I just don't want to.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: Like that's just not me.
- 11:33SPEAKER_00: I want to make other people happy.
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: I want other people to work for me and make them I want I want them to work for me, but don't let it make it feel like a nine to five, you know what I'm saying?
- 11:44SPEAKER_00: So that's just that's just one of the things.
- 11:46SPEAKER_00: But another thing that I had to ask myself was did becoming a father really change what success meant to me?
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: Honestly, yes, and no.
- 11:58SPEAKER_00: Success is still success at the end of the day.
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: I s what I wanted for myself, I now want this for my whole entire family.
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: Like, my goals, and you're gonna hear me say throughout this episode, my like one of my goal major goals is to sit down with my wife's family and present them the opportunity to walk away from their nine to fives for good.
- 12:25SPEAKER_00: And honestly, if they don't want to, that's completely fine.
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: Like, there's no problem in working a nine to five.
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: Like, I don't hate a nine to five at all.
- 12:35SPEAKER_00: But I want to be able to sit down and say, hey, look, this opportunity came.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: This is what we're looking like over here.
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: Life is great over here.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: I'm able to buy my wife the house that she loves and she deserves.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: I'm able to give my kids the things they need and they want, they deserve.
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: Me and my my baby, we driving and we're whipping our dream cars.
- 13:03SPEAKER_00: And I want to be able to sit down and say, hey, look, do y'all want to retire?
- 13:09SPEAKER_00: Yes or no?
- 13:11SPEAKER_00: And then take another moment and sit down with my father-in-law because he's he's the pastor of the church, and say, hey, look, what are the finances?
- 13:21SPEAKER_00: What do you guys need?
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: You know what?
- 13:24SPEAKER_00: Don't even tell me.
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: Here's a huge check to this church, to our church, to this church, his family.
- 13:33SPEAKER_00: Do whatever needs to be done.
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: And it'll continue continuously flow.
- 13:39SPEAKER_00: Those are my that's my that's what success looks like to me.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: I want to be able to do those things, and it's never gonna that's never gonna change.
- 13:49SPEAKER_00: And everybody know my circle looks like.
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: If you mean something to me, you know I'm gonna look out for you.
- 13:56SPEAKER_00: Because my heart's that big and I'm not bragging about myself and nothing like that.
- 13:59SPEAKER_00: That's just how I roll, man.
- 14:01SPEAKER_00: And that's how you should roll too.
- 14:03SPEAKER_00: You should want the best for somebody.
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: You should want to see somebody else succeed.
- 14:07SPEAKER_00: You should want to see somebody else make money too.
- 14:10SPEAKER_00: Like, honestly, like I'm praying.
- 14:13SPEAKER_00: I'm praying to God that this podcast sees success.
- 14:17SPEAKER_00: Because you know why?
- 14:18SPEAKER_00: I want to bring people in that I love to help flourish this thing.
- 14:23SPEAKER_00: I want to see people eat off of my success too.
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: Off of my family's success.
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: I want to see people, you know, be happy, and I want to see them financially free too.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: That's just, man, God is good.
- 14:36SPEAKER_00: Like, I just I just gotta give him the praise for that.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: Cause yeah, I think about it and I get chills all the time.
- 14:41SPEAKER_00: Cause that's just I I just see it.
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: Like I know it's gonna happen.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: Like I know.
- 14:47SPEAKER_00: Now, like I hope that answers that because honestly, success, what I wanted for myself back then is what I want from my whole entire family now.
- 14:55SPEAKER_00: So it didn't really change much, honestly.
- 14:58SPEAKER_00: It's just it's just greater.
- 15:00SPEAKER_00: So now has now has how has marriage changed my approach to my dreams?
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: Honestly, I seen this and it was just it was interesting, actually.
- 15:16SPEAKER_00: My dreams I don't know really how to answer that because like my dreams is my dream is to be really happy with my family.
- 15:31SPEAKER_00: Honestly.
- 15:33SPEAKER_00: Like I wanna be able to just be like, hey, hey babe, where you wanna go?
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: Go for vacation.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: Alright, cool.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: I I got tickets books for the whole family.
- 15:43SPEAKER_00: I mean your parents, they wanna where we wanna go.
- 15:46SPEAKER_00: Like, if y'all don't know, man, y'all ever see me.
- 15:49SPEAKER_00: Me, me, my wife and her parents are tight.
- 15:54SPEAKER_00: Like, I I love them to death, man.
- 15:57SPEAKER_00: Like, honestly, like I'll do anything for for them.
- 16:00SPEAKER_00: Because they they I wanna say that I'm gonna tell y'all this in another episode, but they just mean the world to me, honestly.
- 16:08SPEAKER_00: They stepped in in a major way in my life and changed my life for the greater.
- 16:13SPEAKER_00: And honestly, God knew what he was doing when he put them in my life.
- 16:18SPEAKER_00: Cause things got shaky when my pops passed, and they stepped in and stabilized everything.
- 16:27SPEAKER_00: So what does it have to do with my dreams?
- 16:30SPEAKER_00: My honestly, marriage just made my dream made me marriage, made me become more serious about my dreams.
- 16:41SPEAKER_00: Because before I was serious, but I was lacking still.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: But it made me lock in, honestly.
- 16:53SPEAKER_00: Because my wife, she sat me down, she was like, Hey, if you got this, you got XYZ going, you got this, this, and this going.
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: You need to slow down and pick a lane.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: So I picked a lane and ran with it, and that was Clever Kicks, because honestly, it's so funny because again, in another episode, I'm gonna tell you how clever kicks became, but just for a quick snippet, I was gonna do clothing like everybody else because I've seen the success in it and I wanted a piece of it, but I also wanted something that I could wear that look great.
- 17:28SPEAKER_00: And honestly, I was like, baby, should I do clothing or should I do sneakers?
- 17:33SPEAKER_00: I love sneakers and I love I love I mean I love sneakers a lot.
- 17:38SPEAKER_00: And she was like, honestly, be different.
- 17:40SPEAKER_00: So I I listened to her.
- 17:42SPEAKER_00: Shout out to you, baby.
- 17:44SPEAKER_00: You you you really helped the brother out.
- 17:47SPEAKER_00: I'm trying to tell you.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: But yeah, marriage just made me sit down and lock in on my dreams because this is not it's bigger than me.
- 17:58SPEAKER_00: It's it's way bigger than me.
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: I have four lives that I gotta take care of.
- 18:04SPEAKER_00: And it's just I gotta I gotta be serious about it.
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: I want I want them to have the best.
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: So yeah, it just maybe lock in.
- 18:15SPEAKER_00: Uh so moving on.
- 18:17SPEAKER_00: So fatherhood, just providing, providing versus being present.
- 18:22SPEAKER_00: Now, this is this is the main thing.
- 18:26SPEAKER_00: Can you really call yourself a successful father if you're financially providing but emotionally absent?
- 18:34SPEAKER_00: No.
- 18:35SPEAKER_00: Honestly, that's not real success in my opinion.
- 18:39SPEAKER_00: Like, real success is when you can find a nice harmonic balance, and you and your spouse can be on the same sheet of music because honestly, I was on that end where I was being successful, but I was very much absent because I was locked, I would lock my I would get like six pairs of shoes, lock myself away, and get to work, and you wouldn't see me till like two o'clock in the morning.
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: And that was consistent, and I thought that was success, and it really wasn't.
- 19:12SPEAKER_00: Honestly, I was just crippling to my wife.
- 19:15SPEAKER_00: She at the time was just taking care of two babies, really, like my oldest Zeke and my my my other boy Elijah, my middle child Elijah, he they are not that far apart, and at the time they were both pretty much babies, and um having a child with a disability and taking care of a baby at the same time can be overwhelming.
- 19:41SPEAKER_00: Um, for those who don't know, my oldest child has autism, and and we didn't know that at the time, so he didn't, but he did have some other complications that we had to deal with.
- 19:51SPEAKER_00: Like he had to go to therapy and stuff like that to walk correctly and stuff.
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: But but that's besides the point.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: I was literally focused so hard on building a business that I literally let my wife take care of those kids by herself, her and her mom and stuff, and I thought I was doing the right thing.
- 20:13SPEAKER_00: You have to be able to find time to work on your business and also be a present factor in your marriage and in your family.
- 20:27SPEAKER_00: It is so crucial because if you don't do that, you can just you just create so many problems.
- 20:36SPEAKER_00: And honestly, like it's just it's just crazy.
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: I love Bree so much.
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: Excuse me.
- 20:47SPEAKER_00: She is a oh man, I'm about to get teary eyed, honestly.
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: She she supports my my dreams so much.
- 21:01SPEAKER_00: She literally is what success looks like too.
- 21:13SPEAKER_00: And I I I thank God for her really.
- 21:18SPEAKER_00: Because if you don't have a spouse that doesn't support your dreams and see your vision and take you serious, then you don't have nothing to stand on.
- 21:27SPEAKER_00: And that's just the truth.
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: And I think Brie, because honestly like countless times she had told me she teach her how to clean shoes and she could help me teach her how to do this.
- 21:39SPEAKER_00: And honestly, I might just do it.
- 21:40SPEAKER_00: And she keep and she asked me one more time, I just might do it.
- 21:45SPEAKER_00: But um she's gonna drink some water real quick, man.
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: Hey I'm not editing that out either.
- 21:59SPEAKER_00: But anyway.
- 22:01SPEAKER_00: She I might just let her help me.
- 22:05SPEAKER_00: Cause honestly, she just I don't know.
- 22:08SPEAKER_00: That woman's just amazing.
- 22:09SPEAKER_00: She and she's a go-getter too.
- 22:11SPEAKER_00: Like she's about her money.
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: Like when I met her, she was working nonstop, dancing in school, nonstop, and she was still maintaining life.
- 22:21SPEAKER_00: Like it was just like it was crazy.
- 22:24SPEAKER_00: And after high school, she was working two jobs.
- 22:26SPEAKER_00: She was driving to Ohio to work, and then going to Fort Wayne to work.
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: And like she was just Brie was getting to it, man.
- 22:35SPEAKER_00: And honestly, that's how I need to be.
- 22:38SPEAKER_00: And then I I ended up taking that role, but I was doing too much.
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: Honestly, I was working second to third shift at 18 years old.
- 22:45SPEAKER_00: And I was doing too much.
- 22:46SPEAKER_00: But I was getting to that bread.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: Alright, moving on.
- 22:51SPEAKER_00: So yeah, honestly, it's not you're not being successful if you're emotionally absent.
- 22:57SPEAKER_00: Let's put it like that.
- 22:59SPEAKER_00: So honestly, children need your time, not just your money.
- 23:06SPEAKER_00: Now, that's something I'm working on, and I've been working on that for years.
- 23:11SPEAKER_00: Making sure that my kids know me for me and not my wallet.
- 23:15SPEAKER_00: Now, honestly, my kids, you're the most humble kids that you'll ever meet.
- 23:21SPEAKER_00: They'll always say, please, thank you.
- 23:23SPEAKER_00: Like they treasure everything that you give them.
- 23:27SPEAKER_00: And I'm honestly, I love my babies for that.
- 23:30SPEAKER_00: And I know that one day they will, you know, dad, can I just dad, you know, money this, money that, whatever the case may be.
- 23:40SPEAKER_00: And I'll be glad to give it to them.
- 23:42SPEAKER_00: But you need to be there for your kids so they can know you for you.
- 23:49SPEAKER_00: Like your time is valuable to them.
- 23:52SPEAKER_00: Um, feeling pressure to provide everything for your children.
- 23:55SPEAKER_00: I don't feel no pressure right now because I know for a fact I'm gonna give give my kids what they need right now and in the future.
- 24:04SPEAKER_00: Period, point blank.
- 24:06SPEAKER_00: So, overall, pretty much, like, just to sum it up for you, yes, you can provide all you want, but are you gonna be there in your kids' life?
- 24:18SPEAKER_00: Cuz honestly, there's so many movies out there.
- 24:20SPEAKER_00: Like, there's one movie that stands out to me.
- 24:22SPEAKER_00: Um, I don't know if y'all ever seen it, but it's called Click, um, with Adam Sandler in it, and he was working so hard.
- 24:29SPEAKER_00: I think he was an architect or something like that.
- 24:31SPEAKER_00: It was a good movie.
- 24:32SPEAKER_00: Um It was real, really good.
- 24:34SPEAKER_00: I'm a huge Adam Sandler fan.
- 24:36SPEAKER_00: And honestly, I hope I get to meet the goat one day.
- 24:39SPEAKER_00: So um on that note, his movie pretty much, he was an arch architect.
- 24:46SPEAKER_00: He worked so hard day in and day out because he wanted to be very, very successful, and he was working hard for so hard for promotion that he wasn't really into his kid's life anymore.
- 24:57SPEAKER_00: Like, he had this remote, and this remote pretty much controlled everything around him, where he can be two places at once, or he can fast forward this, and he could be with his wife one minute, he could be with his kids one minute, but he was moving so fast throughout life that he actually skipped his kids' life, and they grew up without him, his wife divorced him, and he she remarried, and then long story short, spoiler alert, the man died from a heart attack.
- 25:26SPEAKER_00: And coming to find out it was a dream, all of it was a dream.
- 25:31SPEAKER_00: So it's just like I you it's good to be in your kid's life because if they grow up knowing that all the dad did was work and you pass away, they don't they don't have no fun memories of you.
- 25:42SPEAKER_00: So, like, for me personally, this summer I know I'm gonna put in like this upcoming summer in 2027, spring too, I'm gonna put in so much work.
- 25:51SPEAKER_00: There's so many things I want to do with clever kicks that's gonna turn everybody's heads.
- 25:57SPEAKER_00: It's gonna flip Fort Wayne upside down.
- 26:00SPEAKER_00: Like I'm excited for it, but I'm gonna make sure that I take time to have fun with my kids go to the playground, go to the movies, build memories.
- 26:10SPEAKER_00: That's what that's what matters most, and that's where also the success comes from too.
- 26:15SPEAKER_00: If they could remember you in that way, well you won.
- 26:20SPEAKER_00: Honestly, you won.
- 26:22SPEAKER_00: So moving on, honestly, um, I'm gonna dig in deeper with uh with marriage.
- 26:30SPEAKER_00: Me and an entrepreneur entrepreneurial husband.
- 26:34SPEAKER_00: So there's the main question How do you chase your dreams without making your spouse feel like they're competing with them?
- 26:45SPEAKER_00: And honestly, that's a fantastic question.
- 26:48SPEAKER_00: So I had to slow down with clever kicks and honestly that was just God talking because during the pandemic, like I said, we were making money hand over fist and things were looking great, you know.
- 27:10SPEAKER_00: But God has a funny way of showing that you need to chill out.
- 27:15SPEAKER_00: Cause it was starting to slip again and didn't realize it.
- 27:19SPEAKER_00: I was starting to really, you know, get so far into it that honestly I wasn't being there for Brie.
- 27:28SPEAKER_00: And I'm not even saying being on the parent side of things, I'm just like being there for her and what she needs because your wife needs you to be present.
- 27:39SPEAKER_00: Like you guys are married and are one.
- 27:43SPEAKER_00: It's just not it's not just her, you know what I'm saying?
- 27:47SPEAKER_00: So I had to experience this, and it was honestly sickening to me where a customer was upset that the pandemic happened and I wasn't able to cross the state lines and break the law for him, and he wanted a refund, and we don't do refunds because the work has been finished, and he loved the work.
- 28:11SPEAKER_00: Posted on Facebook, Instagram, people were loving it.
- 28:14SPEAKER_00: He loved it so much, and he told me.
- 28:17SPEAKER_00: And I get to the doorstep, and his man pulls the gun talking about a refund.
- 28:24SPEAKER_00: And honestly, I'm not a big hero, I'm not big and bad, because bullets kill anybody, and that ain't cool.
- 28:34SPEAKER_00: He pulled it on me and was talking about refund.
- 28:37SPEAKER_00: I just said I don't got it.
- 28:40SPEAKER_00: He was like, Alright.
- 28:42SPEAKER_00: God had his angels wrapped around me and my family, because my family was in a car witnessing this.
- 28:50SPEAKER_00: And honestly, that's what really made me take a break from clever kicks because of that moment.
- 28:56SPEAKER_00: And that moment always also made me realize that I need to strap up.
- 29:00SPEAKER_00: I need to I need to really protect myself out here because there's crazies out here, man.
- 29:05SPEAKER_00: You just never know.
- 29:07SPEAKER_00: So the guy was just telling me that I need to slow down and I need to spend more time with my family, and that's what I'm doing.
- 29:15SPEAKER_00: Well, that's what I did.
- 29:16SPEAKER_00: And then next thing I know, Clever Kicks is back up and running, but at a reasonable rate.
- 29:24SPEAKER_00: And honestly, we're rebuilding and rebranding it to be more efficient for my lifestyle.
- 29:31SPEAKER_00: And we're gonna build it the right way so that it can generate passive income the right way.
- 29:38SPEAKER_00: So yeah, man, like make sure you're there for your spouse, make sure she's not competing or he's not competing with your work.
- 29:48SPEAKER_00: That should never be the case at all.
- 29:51SPEAKER_00: Um, and the port the one point I want to make too, the importance of having a supportive partner is very crucial.
- 29:58SPEAKER_00: Because honestly, Bree, if she didn't understand what this meant to me, and honestly, she didn't understand what being an entrepreneur really, really means to me, it wouldn't really work.
- 30:12SPEAKER_00: We'd be bumping heads every single day.
- 30:14SPEAKER_00: I would have to fight to make a podcast, I would have to fight to do clever kicks, I would have to fight to get anything done and invest and make things happen because honestly, that's just a headache.
- 30:29SPEAKER_00: And if you're so if your spouse is not cooperating with and not supporting your dreams, what's the point?
- 30:41SPEAKER_00: Honestly, just what's the point?
- 30:44SPEAKER_00: It's just like y'all are there for each other, you're supposed to uplift each other, you're supposed to be there for one another.
- 30:52SPEAKER_00: So if you're out there and you are upset that your man or your or your lady is has dreams, just support them, man.
- 31:00SPEAKER_00: Just support them.
- 31:02SPEAKER_00: Your life will be easier, trust me.
- 31:05SPEAKER_00: And here's another thing too balancing date nights and family responsibilities in the business.
- 31:12SPEAKER_00: So there will be nights where I would work till 2 a.m., right?
- 31:17SPEAKER_00: And there was a reason why I worked till 2 a.m.
- 31:19SPEAKER_00: And this is the second, this is during the pandemic again.
- 31:22SPEAKER_00: Um, I will work till 2 a.m.
- 31:24SPEAKER_00: so that I could be ahead of the next day.
- 31:25SPEAKER_00: So I really didn't have to work the next day.
- 31:27SPEAKER_00: Um I would throw shoes into the ice box and they pretty much be working on their own and they will be in there for a certain amount of time.
- 31:34SPEAKER_00: I like I got the time down packed for everything to this day.
- 31:39SPEAKER_00: And quite honestly, it was just like this.
- 31:42SPEAKER_00: If I put those shoes in the icebox and I know the time span, I'm good for the day.
- 31:48SPEAKER_00: Now it's time for me to hang out with my baby and my kids.
- 31:51SPEAKER_00: It's time to be a father, it's time to be a husband, it's time to get the house clean, it's time to do the chores, it's time to step up.
- 31:59SPEAKER_00: So it's all about finding that finding that that rhythm, you know, find being on the same sheet of music.
- 32:04SPEAKER_00: Because once you're learning that, you guys can definitely flow together.
- 32:08SPEAKER_00: It'll definitely work for the both of y'all.
- 32:10SPEAKER_00: Trust me.
- 32:11SPEAKER_00: So again, moving on.
- 32:15SPEAKER_00: Um, so the next thing I really want to talk to you guys tonight or today about, actually, is the struggle working a job while trying to build something bigger.
- 32:25SPEAKER_00: Now, this is this is crazy for me.
- 32:30SPEAKER_00: So, like, I'm not against nine to fives.
- 32:33SPEAKER_00: I'm just not.
- 32:35SPEAKER_00: Nine to five is something that you use to build the foundation to push your business further, and that's what people don't really understand.
- 32:42SPEAKER_00: You want to clown somebody working at McDonald's, you want to clown somebody working at Walmart.
- 32:46SPEAKER_00: Come on now, you're being a clown yourself because honestly, they're making money.
- 32:50SPEAKER_00: And what are you doing sitting there not making money?
- 32:52SPEAKER_00: You're clowning somebody else who is.
- 32:54SPEAKER_00: That's corny, that's lame.
- 32:56SPEAKER_00: And honestly, I don't see why people keep doing that.
- 32:59SPEAKER_00: It just doesn't make sense to me.
- 33:01SPEAKER_00: So, using the nine to five to generate your investments, generate your side hustle, make sure you generate your side hustle so much that you it can be your main hustle.
- 33:14SPEAKER_00: That's what it's for.
- 33:15SPEAKER_00: That's what I see it as.
- 33:16SPEAKER_00: That's why I'm okay with working a nine to five because I know what it can provide.
- 33:21SPEAKER_00: I'm building a s I'm building multiple streams of income with a nine to five, so I can walk away from that one.
- 33:29SPEAKER_00: Okay, so if you can build a stream of income that can replace your nine to five, you'll be able to walk away from the nine to five.
- 33:38SPEAKER_00: And this is for people who don't understand it already.
- 33:42SPEAKER_00: Then that that I don't that's the best I can say it, honestly.
- 33:47SPEAKER_00: Like, that's that's the biggest thing.
- 33:49SPEAKER_00: Like, if you can use your nine to five to build and create that foundation, you're solid, straight up.
- 33:57SPEAKER_00: So here's one here's another thing that I seen today.
- 34:02SPEAKER_00: And all these points, I'm I'm getting them off of uh social media and what people keep talking about.
- 34:07SPEAKER_00: I'm just piggybacking.
- 34:10SPEAKER_00: Um see now working a nine to five is all a part of sacrifice, and it's all about hold on.
- 34:26SPEAKER_00: And I say that because you are going on going to work every single day, Monday through Friday, Monday to Saturday, Sunday to Sunday to Saturday, whatever the case may be.
- 34:36SPEAKER_00: Working eights, tens, twelves, whatever.
- 34:39SPEAKER_00: Um the sacrifice comes in when you go to work and then you come home and then you got your responsibilities made.
- 34:50SPEAKER_00: Like you got to make sure that your family is good.
- 34:53SPEAKER_00: You have to sacrifice that time to make sure your family is straight.
- 34:56SPEAKER_00: You gotta make sure you could take time to work on your side of business, so you gotta sacrifice.
- 35:04SPEAKER_00: And honestly, that's mentally draining.
- 35:06SPEAKER_00: It can be mentally draining.
- 35:08SPEAKER_00: And then there's days where I actually had to take a break in from everything.
- 35:13SPEAKER_00: Not just not I'm not avoiding my family or nothing like that.
- 35:16SPEAKER_00: No, that's not the case.
- 35:17SPEAKER_00: But I'm talking about like I had to step away from building the business and building the brand because it was really getting to me.
- 35:25SPEAKER_00: I was stressed out, like I started missing deadlines, I start going, I started losing my mind a little bit.
- 35:32SPEAKER_00: And so it's taxing.
- 35:35SPEAKER_00: Honestly, it really is.
- 35:36SPEAKER_00: You're working the 95 to get out the nine to five.
- 35:39SPEAKER_00: Look at it like that.
- 35:41SPEAKER_00: And honestly, if it's time, like you have to you have to listen to God.
- 35:46SPEAKER_00: This is when you had to be in tune with the spirit because if you're on your way, like me personally, I'm gonna use myself again as an example.
- 35:55SPEAKER_00: I know what I'm supposed to be doing because one, my wife said it, my mother-in-law said it, and my friends said it, and you know who you are.
- 36:05SPEAKER_00: I am not made for a 9 to 5 job.
- 36:10SPEAKER_00: I am meant to run my own business, and the more that I don't listen, the more I feel God's butt whooping coming.
- 36:20SPEAKER_00: If God's not in it, it's not for you.
- 36:23SPEAKER_00: Now, am I working a 9 to 5 right now?
- 36:26SPEAKER_00: Yes, I am.
- 36:27SPEAKER_00: Did I just jump up to the next job that I found?
- 36:31SPEAKER_00: No.
- 36:31SPEAKER_00: God was in this all the way through.
- 36:34SPEAKER_00: He provided a job where I'm off every single weekend, and there's breaks where I can work on the business, I can be with my family, and I can enjoy the holidays, I can enjoy everything with my family.
- 36:50SPEAKER_00: God was in this decision 100%.
- 36:54SPEAKER_00: It's funny because I was just going to the school to check up on my son because he was acting up.
- 37:00SPEAKER_00: And then next thing I know, they offered me a job.
- 37:02SPEAKER_00: And they were they were I thought they were being funny, they were being dead serious.
- 37:07SPEAKER_00: If God's not in it, it's not for you.
- 37:10SPEAKER_00: Period.
- 37:12SPEAKER_00: So don't feel guilty when you want to relax.
- 37:19SPEAKER_00: When you want to relax, is what you the body needs to relax.
- 37:22SPEAKER_00: For me, I was not relaxing.
- 37:24SPEAKER_00: Honestly, I was working at 12, I was working 12s, and I was pushing my side businesses, and I became the most unhealthiest version of myself, and I'm working on I'm re I'm working on myself now, honestly, before it's too late.
- 37:40SPEAKER_00: Like, honestly, there's I'm gonna say, I'm gonna explain it in other episodes, but it's just been a lot going on, and I'm finally getting myself together.
- 37:49SPEAKER_00: Now, seeing other entrepreneurs succeed while you're still figuring things out can be frustrating.
- 37:59SPEAKER_00: Like, that's even with content creators.
- 38:00SPEAKER_00: Like, you make content every single day, you probably did it for 30, 60, 90 days, and you're not seeing the views and the following that you want.
- 38:10SPEAKER_00: But blankety blank over here, they dropped three, four videos and they instantly became famous.
- 38:17SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna tell you now.
- 38:20SPEAKER_00: Mind your business.
- 38:23SPEAKER_00: Okay, don't be worried about so-and-so.
- 38:28SPEAKER_00: Worry about you.
- 38:30SPEAKER_00: Follow keep your nose on your own paper.
- 38:34SPEAKER_00: Follow your own lane.
- 38:37SPEAKER_00: Don't worry about them and what their success means because you will be successful.
- 38:42SPEAKER_00: God just didn't make it for you right now.
- 38:45SPEAKER_00: It's coming.
- 38:46SPEAKER_00: If you just keep working, like there's this picture I saw, man.
- 38:50SPEAKER_00: This this this man, it was like a top and bottom picture of two men digging, two men digging trying to get to the diamonds, and this person gave up right before he needed one more swing.
- 39:03SPEAKER_00: One more swing to get to the diamonds, and he quit.
- 39:08SPEAKER_00: But the person in the other picture, he kept digging because he knew it was coming.
- 39:13SPEAKER_00: He just kept digging.
- 39:15SPEAKER_00: Are you gonna keep digging or are you gonna give up right before it comes?
- 39:20SPEAKER_00: You answer me, answer me down.
- 39:23SPEAKER_00: Now the last thing, does success require sacrifice?
- 39:27SPEAKER_00: Now the main question to that is everybody says success says success requires sacrifice, but what are we actually willing to sacrifice?
- 39:38SPEAKER_00: Boy, that's deep.
- 39:42SPEAKER_00: That's deep.
- 39:46SPEAKER_00: So let me say it like this success definitely requires sacrifice, and that's something that I'm I'm learning as I go because I love being with my family.
- 40:00SPEAKER_00: I love being I love being out and about, I love getting breakfast and lunch with my fam, stuff like that.
- 40:07SPEAKER_00: But there are days where you literally have to get to work.
- 40:14SPEAKER_00: There's days where you have to lock lock in, there's days where you have to miss out on fun.
- 40:21SPEAKER_00: I'm not saying for the whole day, you know, leave your family, you know, but I'm saying you gotta find the balance and you have to lock in.
- 40:34SPEAKER_00: You have to there's gonna be a time where you have to lock in and press forward in order to be successful.
- 40:42SPEAKER_00: You just and there's gonna be days where you can't go out early in the morning shopping with your family or be with your wife because you have to get that deadline done.
- 40:55SPEAKER_00: And like I said before, if your spouse supports you, she's not gonna have a problem with it.
- 41:01SPEAKER_00: She's not, she understands that you're doing something good for this family, and that's what I struggle with the most.
- 41:07SPEAKER_00: And Bree remind me countless times that you're doing something good for this family, and I want you to continue to do it.
- 41:15SPEAKER_00: There's gonna be days where you're not gonna be able to be with us, but I know you'll make up for it, and I know you'll be with us, and she's right, she's right.
- 41:27SPEAKER_00: So, yes, there's sacrifice you're gonna have to sacrifice a lot to get to be to be successful, sacrifice the right things.
- 41:38SPEAKER_00: That's just to say now.
- 41:41SPEAKER_00: The last the last thing I want to tie up this podcast episode with the bigger picture.
- 41:47SPEAKER_00: What does real success look like to me?
- 41:52SPEAKER_00: So here's the here's the main question to this.
- 41:55SPEAKER_00: What if success success isn't just becoming wealthy?
- 41:59SPEAKER_00: What if success is becoming somebody your family is proud of?
- 42:03SPEAKER_00: Now, this is what I've been waiting for right here.
- 42:07SPEAKER_00: This is what I've been waiting for.
- 42:10SPEAKER_00: I was on Instagram scrolling, just you know, looking at ideas and looking like I use Instagram as a study tool, you know.
- 42:21SPEAKER_00: I came across this video of this man in his big backyard.
- 42:26SPEAKER_00: You know, it's not it's not a mansion, you know, it's just a nice sized backyard.
- 42:34SPEAKER_00: And he said, This is what success looks like.
- 42:39SPEAKER_00: This is what freedom looks like.
- 42:42SPEAKER_00: My wife's happy, and I know she's happy.
- 42:46SPEAKER_00: My bills are paid, her bills are paid, the house bills are paid, the family's bills are paid.
- 42:51SPEAKER_00: We have our dream cars, kids are fed, they're happy, they don't they don't have to want for nothing.
- 42:59SPEAKER_00: And all this is my this is mine, all this is is mine.
- 43:05SPEAKER_00: It's my family's, but it's mine, and I have nothing to worry about.
- 43:10SPEAKER_00: That is what I'm looking for.
- 43:13SPEAKER_00: I don't need a mansion.
- 43:15SPEAKER_00: I don't knowing that my family is happy, genuinely happy, is everything I could ever want.
- 43:28SPEAKER_00: What we don't need or want for anything.
- 43:32SPEAKER_00: Because honestly, it's okay to want those material things too.
- 43:37SPEAKER_00: It's just that you gotta make sure that God's in it, all in it.
- 43:44SPEAKER_00: And I mean that.
- 43:45SPEAKER_00: Like me personally, you come to me asking what my dream car is, a Lamborghini, Lamborghini yours.
- 43:52SPEAKER_00: That is the dream car.
- 43:55SPEAKER_00: It's always it always has been.
- 43:59unknown: I
- 44:00SPEAKER_00: I love cars.
- 44:00SPEAKER_00: Like my dream car.
- 44:02SPEAKER_00: Like that is my dream car.
- 44:03SPEAKER_00: But I have a lot of other dream cars that I want to.
- 44:07SPEAKER_00: Like the mama we made it, like this is taking off car.
- 44:10SPEAKER_00: It's a Corvette, of course.
- 44:14SPEAKER_00: Z06 Corvette.
- 44:18SPEAKER_00: And we really made it.
- 44:20SPEAKER_00: You know, we're doing real well for ourselves.
- 44:23SPEAKER_00: I want that Maybach.
- 44:24SPEAKER_00: That Mercedes Maybach.
- 44:26SPEAKER_00: I want that Maybach truck.
- 44:30SPEAKER_00: And I want that cullin in.
- 44:33SPEAKER_00: I want a Rolls Royce.
- 44:35SPEAKER_00: I want to be able to pull up at my high school reunion in one of them.
- 44:38SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 44:41SPEAKER_00: Like, those are the things that I do want for myself.
- 44:44SPEAKER_00: I want to be able to just have I like I told people this, like, I want a warehouse where I can go work diligently and record a podcast and then we're like turn a warehouse into a complete office workspace.
- 45:00SPEAKER_00: There's a gym in the corner.
- 45:01SPEAKER_00: There's a kitchen in the corner.
- 45:03SPEAKER_00: There's TV couches right there.
- 45:05SPEAKER_00: There's office desk right here, computers.
- 45:08SPEAKER_00: We go in and we work.
- 45:10SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 45:11SPEAKER_00: Like there's a big garage door where we can hang out, watch, like if it was raining or whatever, open the garage door, let some air in.
- 45:19SPEAKER_00: Like that is what I want.
- 45:24SPEAKER_00: I want space.
- 45:25SPEAKER_00: I want time to work on my craft.
- 45:28SPEAKER_00: Like I want I want the Lamborghini Urus.
- 45:33SPEAKER_00: I want a really nice sized house with a nut with a ton of room.
- 45:39SPEAKER_00: I want my kids to stretch their legs and be safe running in the neighbor neighborhood.
- 45:45SPEAKER_00: It could be a gated community.
- 45:46SPEAKER_00: I don't care.
- 45:48SPEAKER_00: I want to be able to mow grass and do my yard.
