Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_01: Boxing Podcast, you're on with the sickos.
- 0:04SPEAKER_01: It's me and Tokers.
- 0:05SPEAKER_01: Tokers is probably the most knowledgeable ex-person besides Box Rick Gray out there.
- 0:11SPEAKER_01: He is going through all the craziness in boxing.
- 0:15SPEAKER_01: I actually have a fight for you to talk about this week that is just a sicko fight
- 0:19SPEAKER_01: that was thrown to me in my newsletter.
- 0:21SPEAKER_01: But Tokers, how are you doing?
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: I'm okay.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: Thank you for asking.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: It's good to be back on.
- 0:28SPEAKER_01: And as I fix my hat,
- 0:32SPEAKER_01: in typical fashion,
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: we start late because Lukie did not send Tokers the link because he was multitasking
- 0:37SPEAKER_01: and couldn't do it.
- 0:38SPEAKER_01: That is a very on-brand thing for this program.
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: Let's start with Daniel Dubois, Fabio, Wardley, too.
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: Just the big thing, is this happening too soon?
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: And what are your thoughts, Tokers?
- 0:47SPEAKER_01: Break this down.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: It's happening way too soon for Wardley.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: I was very,
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: very strong in picking Dubois in the first fight and I haven't really changed,
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: obviously.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: And it just reminds me of Joyce against Yang, to be honest.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: You have this huge tough guy that's got an iron chin that takes a really bad beating
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: in the first fight.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: Takes a quick turnaround.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: Five, what, just over five months, is it?
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: And yeah, I don't think it's going to Go that many rounds this time.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: I think it's probably going to be over in about five or six rounds.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: If it even goes that far.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: I really don't see why Wardley's taking it this quickly.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Well, you can see why.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: It's a money fight and he's playing with Kyle's money at this point.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: But yeah, it's way too soon.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: It's way, way, way too soon.
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah,
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: I guess my fear is with this fight is like he takes the most hellacious beating just
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: to say things I've already said.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: But it's like it's not like and you point this out in the chat on Sunday.
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: It's not like he hasn't taken a lot of damage.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: The Fraser Clark fight was hard.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: The first one he gets the comeback win.
- 2:07SPEAKER_01: I think the second fight makes people forget how hard the first fight was.
- 2:11SPEAKER_01: The Justice Hooney fight wasn't a walk in the park.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: He's had a lot of.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: And even his wins are like high contact wins where he's taking punishment,
- 2:19SPEAKER_01: he's absorbing blows.
- 2:21SPEAKER_01: And I think the fairytale nature of his story has endeared him to the point
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: where people always believe that the comeback can happen.
- 2:29SPEAKER_01: And against Dubois took a brutal,
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: brutal beating where I would have liked to have seen him out of the ring for a year.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: Instead, we're expediting the process and bringing him back in.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: Like, when do you think camp started two months after the beating?
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: I mean, it just seems like this doesn't end well.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: Unless this is just an amazing moment.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: My wonder is,
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: is this one of those things where the contract or not that I'm privy to it,
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: where you have to do the rematch within a certain calendar year or maybe it's void?
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: That's the only reason I can justify it.
- 3:02SPEAKER_01: Or Wardley's a true competitor and he's like,
- 3:05SPEAKER_01: hey man, I want to get this back as soon as possible.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: But it just doesn't seem like for Wardley's long-term health in the sport
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: that this is really the best move.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so a couple of things you said that I'll pick up on.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: Like, how many rounds has he actually won in the last three or four years?
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: Or two, three years?
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: Like, didn't win any against Hooney, really.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: Maybe he won one.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: Maybe two or three against Parker.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: And two against... Like, he's not winning rounds.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: That's the thing.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: And when you're not winning rounds at heavyweight, you're taking damage.
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: Even in Nathan Gorman fight, he had his nose split open.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: But to go on to your second point, I've got no doubt he's a true competitor.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: I think it's weird to contextualise because he wasn't meant to be anything.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: If you take the expectations of him at his pro debut and the expectations
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: of someone like Dave Allen,
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: Dave Allen was meant to do a lot more than Fabio Wardley,
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: which is crazy to think about now.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: But he's always taken hard fights.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: He's always been in hard camps.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: He has got ridiculous chin, ridiculous work ethic.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: Knows how to survive, but that can only take you so far.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: I've got no doubt him himself would have been like,
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: yeah, I want to jump straight back to him, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: I can win the rematch.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: I dropped him.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: But sometimes you've got to take a bit.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: Someone's got to say to him, you know.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: It's too late now,
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: obviously,
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: because it's White Week,
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: but someone should have said to him, like, there's other ways.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: Queensbury have all the heavyweights that are relevant outside Usyk and Gassiev,
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: and even with those that you can work with them.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: So I just, I think, I think it is way too soon.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: And...
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: There's a money thing with it.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: He's probably guaranteed a big package,
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: and it probably was contracted to be either this year or within 12 months of
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: the first fight.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: It's not good for his long-term career.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: You could have rebuilt him, but it's admirable that he's jumping straight back in.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: That's just him.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: It's not a good idea.
- 5:36SPEAKER_01: I hope I'm wrong.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: I hope we're wrong.
- 5:39SPEAKER_01: But now let me throw this to you.
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: I was excited about the first fight.
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: I enjoyed it.
- 5:45SPEAKER_01: I, like you, picked Dubois because I just feel like Dubois...
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: Dubois is frustrating.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: It feels like there's a tier of guy that he's always going to lose to.
- 5:53SPEAKER_01: But if you're not that tier, he beats you pretty soundly.
- 5:57SPEAKER_01: And maybe he becomes the top guy when all those guys are gone.
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: Like there's an element of that.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: And I always remember just always feels like Dubois never fully gotten the shine
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: after Joe Joyce.
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: People have been wanting to kind of be like, this guy's not that good and whatever.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: That's a whole different argument.
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: But the enthusiasm for me for this fight week is very dimmed.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: I know a lot of people are excited,
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: but I can't get out of my mind how fast the rematch is happening.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: And I can't separate the fight itself from the turnaround.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: So it's like I'm not as excited about this fight because of just how fast it's happening.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: And I'm just not knowing the little I know about boxing.
- 6:36SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure he's going to come back without some lingering...
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: Cool.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: Cool.
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: Cool.
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: Cool.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: I might have just dumped the biggest boxing encyclopedia on X.
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: I'm thinking of heavyweights.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: I guess you could say Joshua Ruiz,
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: but that's like Ruiz was being Ruiz in that sort of time after that fight,
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: and it was what it was,
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: and it was sort of Joshua just keeping out of trouble and winning.
- 7:42SPEAKER_01: And that's kind of the same.
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: I just...
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: I feel like where I... And now I'm changing the goalposts so everyone get mad at me.
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: But it also feels like that was a boom-boom confidence deflator.
- 7:55SPEAKER_01: But it wasn't a sustained beatdown.
- 7:57SPEAKER_01: Which is like...
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: Yes, he knocked out Joshua.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: But I always feel like Joshua was a little robotic.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: And there were fears around how far he could go.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: Whereas what scares me about Wardley is...
- 8:09SPEAKER_01: He took a sustained beating.
- 8:11SPEAKER_01: He lost seven or six rounds one-sided and took damage and was being tough,
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: whereas Joshua got dropped a couple of times,
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: wanted to be tough, but then also lost the fight.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: I can't think of anything off the top of my head.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: There's probably some very obvious answers that will come to me in a couple
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: of hours time, but yeah.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: It's just sort of, when everyone thinks it's a bad idea, it is a bad idea.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: Like, I don't think anyone's really saying,
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: oh yeah, it's the perfect time for him to take the rematch, you know.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: And it's like, what, five months ago, man?
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: It's...
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't know.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: It's not a good idea.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: And especially against someone who's just fundamentally just better than you.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: Which I think is what this comes down to.
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: I just think they watch the better fighter.
- 9:17SPEAKER_01: Like...
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: So Lionel Watson in the chat is going to throw a question to you, Tokers.
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: There is a chance that a poor version of Dubois shows up.
- 9:26SPEAKER_01: He didn't look good against Kevin Lorena or started slow against Hergovic.
- 9:31SPEAKER_01: Devil's advocate argument,
- 9:32SPEAKER_01: is there a chance that there's an inconsistency or a lack of focus with Dubois
- 9:36SPEAKER_01: and Wardley could catch him with his Wolverine like were Cooper and Powers early in
- 9:41SPEAKER_01: the fight?
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: I've got a...
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: One of my controversial takes is I think that version turned up in the first fight.
- 9:53SPEAKER_01: Go in.
- 9:53SPEAKER_01: I want this.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: This is why you're here.
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: Give us that take because I want that take.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: He sort of plodded in and sort of ran into a right hand in the first 10 seconds of the fight.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: He wasn't on the job straight away.
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: And then he got dropped a couple of times,
- 10:09SPEAKER_00: got his legs back underneath him,
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: started to have the bounce in his feet and stepping in and out and he got better.
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: But it still wasn't like the great,
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: great sort of just wiped him out like he did to Joshua or something.
- 10:25SPEAKER_00: Like Joshua,
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: the first minute,
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: if you go and watch the first minute of the Joshua fight,
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: he is right on him,
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: right with a stiff jab,
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: right in his face,
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: hands up,
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: feet in and out, bounce on the feet, sort of, you know, he's really, really on it.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: Against Wardley, he just sort of plods in.
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: I actually think it could have been an easier fight for Dubois.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: He was getting a little bit sloppy in exchanges and maybe wasn't going to the body as much.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: This is one thing.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: The one thing I think Dubois should have done a lot more is go to the body.
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: I've not seen a lot of people say to it,
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: but I think that's an area where you can get to Wardler.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: So I want to sum up what you're saying and just say maybe we're doing it for a clip
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: or something.
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: But basically what you're saying is some people might be devils advocating that
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: the bad Dubois shows up for this fight.
- 11:19SPEAKER_01: Whereas you're saying that might be the worst version of Dubois
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: who basically handed him one side beating.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: And if a better version of Dubois comes and no one's bringing that up,
- 11:28SPEAKER_01: this fight's going to be really, really bad for Wardley.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: That's basically your premise.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and that's what I think will happen.
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: I thought as soon as they talked about a rematch,
- 11:38SPEAKER_00: I was like,
- 11:38SPEAKER_00: if that's this year, Wardley's going to get taken out in about three or four rounds.
- 11:44SPEAKER_00: I see it like the second Troy Strang fight.
- 11:46SPEAKER_00: That's how I see this fight.
- 11:48SPEAKER_00: Obviously,
- 11:48SPEAKER_00: they're different stances and they're different styles of fighters and whatever,
- 11:51SPEAKER_00: but I sort of see a similar pattern.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: I just fundamentally, like, in every area, I just think they was better.
- 12:05SPEAKER_00: And I love Wardley as well.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: This is the thing.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: I'm not disparaging Wardley.
- 12:10SPEAKER_00: I just think Dubois is just better everywhere, pretty much.
- 12:15SPEAKER_00: And Hergovic, again, you're talking about an Olympic medalist who's now a world champion.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: Look at the guys he fought in the amateurs.
- 12:27SPEAKER_01: Look at how he came up.
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: You know, it's...
- 12:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and with Lorena, it was like a short southpaw.
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and his knee goes against a short southpaw who's arching shots over the top
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: and coming under and going over the top.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: It's a weird fight.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: Obviously, Wally can land one.
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: He can punch and it's heavyweight, but I really, really don't see any way other than that.
- 13:01SPEAKER_01: I see the same fight as you Tokars.
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: I see a three round destruction for Dubois that shocks everybody is what I'm seeing going in.
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: Can you explain to me as a US guy that doesn't get the shoulder programming or
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: the coverage about why people say Daniel Dubois,
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: like the mental folkness and the awkwardness?
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: Because I feel like there's something that US fight fans don't get about
- 13:26SPEAKER_01: the Dubois character that exists in the UK.
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: That I would like explained because I feel like people throw it out there
- 13:35SPEAKER_01: and it's not contextualized well.
- 13:37SPEAKER_01: Because to me just seems like an awkward big guy who probably got into boxing
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: because he wasn't able to socialize well.
- 13:45SPEAKER_01: And then it's like kind of played up.
- 13:46SPEAKER_01: But I want the perspective from someone that consumes a lot of the content.
- 13:51SPEAKER_01: How is Dubois perceived?
- 13:55SPEAKER_00: I think he sort of...
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: Sort of like a lovable idiot.
- 14:06SPEAKER_00: Not to be disrespectful, but that's how it is.
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: He was put into boxing by his dad at a very young age, like his brother and sister.
- 14:21SPEAKER_00: And there's been a lot of talk about the dad being quite authoritarian
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: with how he was,
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: homeschooled them, put them through rigorous training from a young age, etc.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: But he didn't have a social life from what's been reported.
- 14:40SPEAKER_00: He didn't have that.
- 14:41SPEAKER_00: He's obviously sort of neurodivergent.
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: And I think he's just seen as some guy who's like,
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: you know, He's a lovable sort of idiot, basically.
- 14:55SPEAKER_01: He's like a jock.
- 14:57SPEAKER_01: In America,
- 14:57SPEAKER_01: we'd call it a jock,
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: like where it's like a guy who's good at athletics,
- 15:00SPEAKER_01: but you're not wanting him to give you a thesis on something deep.
- 15:04SPEAKER_01: And I think the problem with boxing is sometimes,
- 15:06SPEAKER_01: especially with writers,
- 15:09SPEAKER_01: myself included, you want to get something deep from a fighter.
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: And there's some guys that just are surface level that don't go deep.
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: And they're looking at you like you're the problem because they're like,
- 15:17SPEAKER_01: dude, I don't think about this deeply.
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: See guy, hit guy.
- 15:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 15:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's basically it.
- 15:22SPEAKER_00: And like,
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: he's sort of,
- 15:26SPEAKER_00: he is becoming a bit of a star because like his career,
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: whatever you think about it, it's been a rollercoaster.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: Like, I've never sort of watched a Danny DuBois fight and not been entertained.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: It's going on sort of 10 years as a pro and like,
- 15:43SPEAKER_00: he's ironing people out and then he's sort of getting dropped all the time
- 15:47SPEAKER_00: and getting back up and sometimes he takes a knee and He's knocking out people in
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: the stadiums and then there's low blows.
- 15:57SPEAKER_00: And then you've got the dad running around making all these comments
- 16:01SPEAKER_00: and you're having fight day parties.
- 16:07SPEAKER_00: Dad's falling out with trainers and taking him away from that trainer to take him
- 16:10SPEAKER_00: to another one and sacking people all the time.
- 16:13SPEAKER_00: And it's his thing where it's sort of There's all this noise
- 16:18SPEAKER_00: and it's very entertaining, but it boils down to a very good fighter.
- 16:27SPEAKER_00: And I think the British public sort of love him or sort of a big part of
- 16:33SPEAKER_00: the British public love him as sort of, you know, he's just sort of a guy that's...
- 16:43SPEAKER_00: Very entertaining in his own sort of way.
- 16:45SPEAKER_00: Like some of the clips he comes out with some of the sort of sayings and stuff.
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: It's just hilarious.
- 16:50SPEAKER_00: He is just like press conferences.
- 16:54SPEAKER_00: It's sort of inverses, doesn't it?
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: Because he's not going to say anything sort of really insightful.
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: He's going to say some funny stuff.
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: I think what you're getting at is his currency and social capital,
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: which is just an obnoxious statement to say, is Daniel Dubois real.
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: In a world of PR guys and in a world of people like, let me,
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: this is my,
- 17:15SPEAKER_01: I'd rather have a million followers on IG than a million dollars because I know
- 17:19SPEAKER_01: the power of a brand.
- 17:20SPEAKER_01: Daniel Dubois is up there just saying some stuff and it just feels like
- 17:24SPEAKER_01: whether you love him or hate him, it feels authentic is what I'm picking up on.
- 17:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I don't think a lot of people hate him.
- 17:31SPEAKER_00: I think he got a lot of sort of, a lot of, They did back it.
- 17:38SPEAKER_00: That joyous fight was rough, man.
- 17:41SPEAKER_00: Some of the stuff people were saying after that joyous fight was,
- 17:43SPEAKER_00: I think, pretty disgraceful, to be honest.
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: Can I go on a rant here?
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: This is a Lukie rant that I want to do, and it's my show, and then you bully me, okay?
- 17:52SPEAKER_01: Is can we get over like guys getting serious injuries with eyes and broken jaws
- 17:57SPEAKER_01: and calling them quitters?
- 17:59SPEAKER_01: Because that's a very reasonable thing.
- 18:01SPEAKER_01: Like you need your eyes in life and your jaw getting broken is not the sign
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: of being like a quitter.
- 18:07SPEAKER_01: Like Victor Ortiz always think about got his jaw broken and people wanted to hate him.
- 18:12SPEAKER_01: And then they look at that.
- 18:14SPEAKER_01: Go feel feel free to cook.
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 18:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 18:20SPEAKER_00: I agree with you there.
- 18:23SPEAKER_00: And it was disgraceful after that Joyce fight.
- 18:25SPEAKER_00: I mean, pretty much everyone in British boxing was out to sort of crucify him.
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: And then...
- 18:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and then Billy Joe Saunders does what Billy Joe Saunders does,
- 18:37SPEAKER_00: and because Billy Joe Saunders has certain connections with people and he sort
- 18:43SPEAKER_00: of understands how to play the media and play the social media game,
- 18:49SPEAKER_00: not a lot of people say the same things about him a few months later,
- 18:53SPEAKER_00: but that was bad.
- 18:56SPEAKER_00: But ever since,
- 18:57SPEAKER_00: I think I think since he came back and he beat Jaryl Miller and he sort of went
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: to Poland and did what he did against Usyk and then it's sort of people are starting
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: to respect him for he will fight anyone and he'll beat a lot of them
- 19:12SPEAKER_00: and it's always going to be entertaining and he'll just say what he wants to say
- 19:19SPEAKER_00: and he doesn't care about you being like
- 19:24SPEAKER_00: I know this sounds bad,
- 19:26SPEAKER_00: me saying this to someone who works in the media,
- 19:29SPEAKER_00: but him saying,
- 19:30SPEAKER_00: you're asking me stupid questions,
- 19:32SPEAKER_00: I'm not going to deal with this, I'm just walking out and doing it on camera.
- 19:35SPEAKER_00: There is a realness there, you're right.
- 19:36SPEAKER_00: It's a weird tale with Dubois, but...
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: I kind of like it though because it's like if you find something he's into he'll get
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: into it and I always remember that promo they did for him and Joshua
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: where he had his belt in a suitcase and I don't know what it was about that I was
- 19:58SPEAKER_01: in Scotland at the time when the fight was happening.
- 20:01SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, he's going to beat Joshua.
- 20:03SPEAKER_01: And it like the reason for it was just seeing him the way he held the suitcase
- 20:07SPEAKER_01: with his belt and his demeanor.
- 20:09SPEAKER_01: I'm like, Joshua is not going to be able to fight this guy.
- 20:12SPEAKER_01: And there's something about him that like there's almost like tells
- 20:16SPEAKER_01: about how he's going to perform fight week because he doesn't really hide it.
- 20:21SPEAKER_01: And he's become a beloved figure to me in the sense
- 20:24SPEAKER_01: that it's like he probably shouldn't be in the position he's in.
- 20:27SPEAKER_01: He had to fight some fights and earn his spot.
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: Not a lot of people come back from that Joyce loss and the noise around it.
- 20:40SPEAKER_00: We've seen career fall apart after those sorts of losses.
- 20:48SPEAKER_00: I think he's really good for British Boxing.
- 20:53SPEAKER_00: And it would be nice if,
- 20:55SPEAKER_00: not necessarily you,
- 20:56SPEAKER_00: but a lot of the media would focus on people like him and Wardley
- 21:00SPEAKER_00: over who's promoting a fight between two near 40-year-olds
- 21:05SPEAKER_00: who were done five years ago.
- 21:06SPEAKER_00: But that's another topic.
- 21:09SPEAKER_01: Speak for yourself, Tokers.
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: I'm more interested in Dana White versus Eddie Hearn in that conversation.
- 21:14SPEAKER_01: You know, that's the real story is I'm just interested about how they're doing it quarter three.
- 21:19SPEAKER_01: What's the revenue split?
- 21:21SPEAKER_01: That to me just captures my interest as a fight fan.
- 21:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: Christ.
- 21:30SPEAKER_01: This is where her... Yeah.
- 21:34SPEAKER_01: Anyway...
- 21:36SPEAKER_01: Let me change the topic.
- 21:38SPEAKER_01: What, for the hardcore enthusiast that's buying this pay-per-view in the U.S.
- 21:41SPEAKER_01: or in Britain,
- 21:42SPEAKER_01: for that matter,
- 21:43SPEAKER_01: what are the fights that you would say,
- 21:45SPEAKER_01: hey, there's something that's going to be better than you think?
- 21:49SPEAKER_01: I circled, I think it's Nelson Brunner.
- 21:51SPEAKER_01: Virtual versus Levi Giles looks like an interesting styles clash.
- 21:56SPEAKER_01: I don't know if it's going to be a good fight.
- 21:58SPEAKER_01: I looked at tape on, I believe it's Louie O'Doherty versus Michael Gomez Jr.
- 22:03SPEAKER_01: I think Gomez, you correct me, you know more than me.
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: Looks like Gomez Jr. is just a different level.
- 22:09SPEAKER_01: And this is a dramatic step up for O'Doherty.
- 22:11SPEAKER_01: I'm curious to get your takes on some of these fights because you intimately know the details.
- 22:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so, but Birchall, um, he's one of three brothers.
- 22:22SPEAKER_00: They were all very, very good amateurs.
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: This is a fight for him to win, basically.
- 22:26SPEAKER_00: Levi Giles took it on any notice,
- 22:28SPEAKER_00: and yeah, I don't think he'll beat Birchall, I think, but it's Leighton, isn't it?
- 22:34SPEAKER_00: Leighton's a good fight, or it might be Nelson.
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: I get, I get confused, but, um, I think it's Nelson.
- 22:40SPEAKER_00: Nelson, yeah, Nelson.
- 22:42SPEAKER_00: I think he beats Levi Giles pretty comfortably, um, I would duck it here against Gomez.
- 22:53SPEAKER_00: Gomez has looked very, very good against guys like Lee McGregor at lightweight.
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: Lee McGregor at lightweight, a former bantamweight who's really a featherweight.
- 23:06SPEAKER_00: And it's like,
- 23:09SPEAKER_00: Louis O'Docherty has been through the small horsing in the UK, fighting season lightweights.
- 23:14SPEAKER_00: Sort of your Jeffer 4s,
- 23:15SPEAKER_00: and he just beat Hatem,
- 23:18SPEAKER_00: and he beat Regan Glacken up in Scotland,
- 23:21SPEAKER_00: and he's sort of passed the tests, but I don't think Michael Gomez has.
- 23:30SPEAKER_00: I think O'Docherty might nick that one.
- 23:31SPEAKER_00: I think it's a good fight, though.
- 23:32SPEAKER_00: It's a really good matchup.
- 23:34SPEAKER_00: Gomez is like his dad.
- 23:37SPEAKER_00: You must remember his dad, surely.
- 23:39SPEAKER_01: Of course, yeah, I'm a loser, bro.
- 23:41SPEAKER_01: Like, you gotta remember, like, it goes to a dark place.
- 23:44SPEAKER_01: I might not know everything in British boxing, but, like,
- 23:46SPEAKER_01: I go to dark places where I'm like,
- 23:48SPEAKER_01: let me go back and watch this Mike McCallum fight because it's Wednesday night
- 23:52SPEAKER_01: and I don't have anything to do.
- 23:53SPEAKER_01: Like, it gets dark in my boxing feed.
- 23:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, same with me.
- 23:58SPEAKER_00: But, um, The dad.
- 24:00SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 24:01SPEAKER_00: I was watching the Arthur fight the other day.
- 24:04SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 24:06SPEAKER_00: But yeah, he's a bit like that.
- 24:08SPEAKER_00: He's a bit sort of mad that he'll just sort of start throwing down with you.
- 24:11SPEAKER_01: But I think maybe Adopi
- 24:13SPEAKER_00: can lick that.
- 24:13SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 24:15SPEAKER_00: It should be a fun fight, though.
- 24:17SPEAKER_00: Gomez is very fun, despite his sort of ability not being sort of top tier.
- 24:23SPEAKER_00: But it's a good sort of British level domestic fight where both are sort
- 24:25SPEAKER_00: of peaking around this level, I think.
- 24:29SPEAKER_00: Dread a lot against Solid Acres.
- 24:32SPEAKER_00: Go do something else.
- 24:33SPEAKER_00: Walk the dog.
- 24:35SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's going to be one punch at a time,
- 24:39SPEAKER_01: ridiculous 10-round decision that shouldn't happen, right?
- 24:43SPEAKER_00: It's going to be 15-foot feints, one jab, and staring at each other.
- 24:50SPEAKER_00: It's just a horrible fight.
- 24:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think Dread a lot wins it.
- 24:58SPEAKER_01: Isn't his career kind of fun though?
- 25:00SPEAKER_01: Like in some degree,
- 25:03SPEAKER_01: he's like the greatest super heavyweight Olympian and it should be decorated,
- 25:08SPEAKER_01: but he's like such a professional amateur.
- 25:11SPEAKER_01: At this point, you never see him converting to a pro style fully.
- 25:14SPEAKER_01: And in any given night,
- 25:16SPEAKER_01: he can like gas out or struggle against guys he totally shouldn't on paper.
- 25:20SPEAKER_01: And it's like, it's so goofy and weird.
- 25:22SPEAKER_01: It almost makes every fight kind of fun.
- 25:27SPEAKER_00: In its own way.
- 25:28SPEAKER_00: It's a shame about Jalov because when he was first prior, he was nasty and he was spiteful.
- 25:35SPEAKER_00: And he was genuinely trying to take your head off.
- 25:38SPEAKER_00: But he was doing it with sort of this top,
- 25:41SPEAKER_00: top level footwork and this great timing of the left hand and sort of...
- 25:46SPEAKER_00: Now he's just sort of flicking a jab out and maybe the odd backhand
- 25:50SPEAKER_00: and foot fainting.
- 25:51SPEAKER_00: And it's just like, oh, yeah.
- 25:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:55SPEAKER_00: But yeah, there's one other fight on this show.
- 25:57SPEAKER_00: Well, not necessarily the fight.
- 26:00SPEAKER_00: Because he's fighting a hundred lost journeyman.
- 26:04SPEAKER_00: Don't get me started on them.
- 26:06SPEAKER_00: But Manny Safari is turning pro.
- 26:09SPEAKER_00: Exceptionally talented youth amateur.
- 26:12SPEAKER_00: Exceptionally talented.
- 26:14SPEAKER_00: I've been sort of half watching him and keeping an eye on him probably since
- 26:18SPEAKER_00: about 2024, maybe 2023.
- 26:19SPEAKER_00: And he's just
- 26:22SPEAKER_00: He's a really, really good signing for Queensborough, making his pro debut.
- 26:26SPEAKER_00: Exceptional, exceptional talent.
- 26:28SPEAKER_00: And if he's developed properly and he keeps his head on,
- 26:33SPEAKER_00: you know, I think he's going to have a really good career.
- 26:36SPEAKER_00: But that's one.
- 26:38SPEAKER_00: The fight's not worth sort of, you know, it won't be competitive at all.
- 26:44SPEAKER_00: But you might want to have a little look at that, I think.
- 26:49SPEAKER_01: Okay, now let's switch gears to another topic.
- 26:52SPEAKER_01: We got a couple more topics to dig into this morning for the boxing topic,
- 26:57SPEAKER_01: which is I'm just going to lay it down because it's kind of a sensitive topic.
- 27:00SPEAKER_01: But obviously, there's a war going on in the Middle East.
- 27:05SPEAKER_01: Canelo is supposed to fight in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
- 27:07SPEAKER_01: There's been missile strikes that have attacked that have hit Riyadh's airport.
- 27:12SPEAKER_01: It's a complicated issue.
- 27:13SPEAKER_01: And honestly, we're not polyscience majors.
- 27:17SPEAKER_01: We're not news reporters.
- 27:19SPEAKER_01: It's something where I think that you have to tread lightly because I don't know
- 27:23SPEAKER_01: the exact verbiage or even what's going on.
- 27:25SPEAKER_01: And I think that boxing has a lot of people that are just saying stuff.
- 27:29SPEAKER_01: That being said,
- 27:31SPEAKER_01: It's quite unusual that there's a potential major fight going on with the face
- 27:36SPEAKER_01: of boxing,
- 27:36SPEAKER_01: the biggest name,
- 27:38SPEAKER_01: the biggest draw in a fight where we're uncertain for reasonable reasons,
- 27:44SPEAKER_01: even though the promotion and Turkey Al-Sheik have reassured everyone that
- 27:47SPEAKER_01: the fight is happening.
- 27:49SPEAKER_01: There are multiple warnings put out by governments about don't travel
- 27:53SPEAKER_01: to Saudi Arabia currently because of the conflict occurring there.
- 27:58SPEAKER_01: And Canelo and Billy, I mean,
- 28:00SPEAKER_01: Is a pretty consequential fight in the super middleweight division
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: in multiple senses.
- 28:06SPEAKER_01: Canelo's the big star of boxing.
- 28:09SPEAKER_01: But it could be a passing of the torch moment.
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: And Billy does have a style where I think some people are favoring him.
- 28:16SPEAKER_01: And now looming over it is, will this fight happen?
- 28:20SPEAKER_01: Yes or no?
- 28:23SPEAKER_01: What is the logistics going to look like?
- 28:25SPEAKER_01: I feel like now...
- 28:28SPEAKER_01: It's also a story about Canelo and Billy as much as it is about what is going
- 28:34SPEAKER_01: to fight Weaklen to look like.
- 28:36SPEAKER_01: And I'm curious to get your perspective on what is just happening with him, Billy and Canelo.
- 28:44SPEAKER_00: Well, I think that I saw something today and I tweeted it.
- 28:52SPEAKER_00: I don't watch this sport,
- 28:54SPEAKER_00: but the Six Kings Slam Tennis Tournament,
- 28:57SPEAKER_00: which was in Riyadh,
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: scheduled for the week before,
- 29:00SPEAKER_00: so the 24th of October, that's been postponed and that's happening in December.
- 29:06SPEAKER_00: I think that's a pretty big indicator that the fight either gets postponed
- 29:11SPEAKER_00: and happens in Saudi at a later date or it gets moved to the US or Mexico
- 29:15SPEAKER_00: or somewhere.
- 29:18SPEAKER_00: Where there isn't government advice about going there.
- 29:28SPEAKER_00: It's a horrific situation,
- 29:31SPEAKER_00: but I don't think it's right for the fight to be happening there at this moment.
- 29:38SPEAKER_00: I don't think anybody really thinks it is.
- 29:43SPEAKER_00: I think there's probably a little bit of a standoff.
- 29:48SPEAKER_01: I was going to get to that.
- 29:49SPEAKER_01: I was going to lead you into that.
- 29:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 29:52SPEAKER_00: It's the standoff over sort of who pulls out first and where the money goes.
- 29:58SPEAKER_00: That's what I think it is.
- 30:00SPEAKER_00: If I had to give you a percentage chance of this fight happening in Riyadh
- 30:06SPEAKER_00: in two weeks' time, I'd probably say 5%.
- 30:09SPEAKER_00: I just don't think it's going to happen though.
- 30:13SPEAKER_01: Let me just say we are not privy to contracts,
- 30:16SPEAKER_01: but I think that what people are wondering is,
- 30:20SPEAKER_01: does Canelo get X amount of money allotted to him potentially if
- 30:25SPEAKER_01: the fight is canceled or postponed?
- 30:27SPEAKER_01: Is there money owed?
- 30:28SPEAKER_01: Whereas if Canelo were to withdraw, is there no money owed?
- 30:32SPEAKER_01: Or what would that look like?
- 30:33SPEAKER_01: And I think that obviously over the next couple of days or even a week,
- 30:38SPEAKER_01: that's probably going to get sorted behind the scenes.
- 30:40SPEAKER_01: That stuff isn't.
- 30:41SPEAKER_01: Isn't privy to us.
- 30:43SPEAKER_01: The bigger question,
- 30:45SPEAKER_01: in my opinion, more interesting question is, boxing has had a terrible 2026.
- 30:51SPEAKER_01: And with Canelo potentially not fighting this year,
- 30:54SPEAKER_01: with Devin Haney not fighting this year,
- 30:56SPEAKER_01: and potentially Shakur Stevenson not making a Zufa boxing debut,
- 31:02SPEAKER_01: Would that just be the stamp on a bad year with no Canelo fight?
- 31:09SPEAKER_01: If we get an announcement and it's like, okay,
- 31:11SPEAKER_01: Canelo's fighting in January,
- 31:12SPEAKER_01: or I think the gut punch would be like, okay,
- 31:15SPEAKER_01: Canelo's fighting in May,
- 31:18SPEAKER_01: but what are your interpretations of,
- 31:21SPEAKER_01: let's leave the politics aside,
- 31:23SPEAKER_01: but if there was a world that you speculate he doesn't fight,
- 31:27SPEAKER_01: what does that mean to boxing?
- 31:29SPEAKER_00: I think it's really bad.
- 31:30SPEAKER_00: And let's not forget, sort of, this fight was meant to happen in September to begin with.
- 31:37SPEAKER_00: And they moved it for Ryan Garcia.
- 31:39SPEAKER_00: And I think that sort of sums up where boxing is sort of moving Canelo fights for Ryan Garcia.
- 31:46SPEAKER_00: But it's a really bad year.
- 31:48SPEAKER_00: And if Canelo doesn't fight, it's...
- 31:54SPEAKER_00: Do you think it is actually that different than Canelo fighting in an empty arena
- 31:59SPEAKER_00: in red at seven in the morning?
- 32:02SPEAKER_00: Is that really, you know, does that make that big a difference?
- 32:06SPEAKER_01: I mean, to me, I would say, obviously, it's not as impactful.
- 32:14SPEAKER_01: Having that,
- 32:15SPEAKER_01: but having Canelo be a part of boxing,
- 32:18SPEAKER_01: even it's like if Canelo fights in a forest and no one sees him fight,
- 32:21SPEAKER_01: at least Canelo's fighting in a forest.
- 32:24SPEAKER_01: And it like Canelo being involved in the sport at least gets the people that,
- 32:29SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 32:29SPEAKER_01: there's there's some media outlets that only come out for Canelo fights
- 32:33SPEAKER_01: at this point or a Ryan Garcia.
- 32:35SPEAKER_01: And it's like if that.
- 32:36SPEAKER_01: If he doesn't fight for one year,
- 32:38SPEAKER_01: that's one year of potential people that only are in to watch boxing like twice,
- 32:44SPEAKER_01: three times a year that boxing just doesn't exist or is not on their radar.
- 32:48SPEAKER_01: So I get what you're saying, but I just think that The impressions and the reach Canelo has.
- 32:55SPEAKER_01: A lot of people are unaware of the venues that I think fighters fight in.
- 32:59SPEAKER_01: I think you and me are more aware of that.
- 33:02SPEAKER_01: But like I have buddies that casually watch boxing, the rare casual fan.
- 33:06SPEAKER_01: They know the matchups.
- 33:07SPEAKER_01: They have no clue what city it's in.
- 33:09SPEAKER_01: So like I think that a lot of people also Yeah, that's fair.
- 33:13SPEAKER_01: That's fair.
- 33:43SPEAKER_00: But yeah, it would be a disastrous year.
- 33:45SPEAKER_00: It's been a bad year anyway.
- 33:47SPEAKER_00: I was sort of talking to someone about Nick Ball against Brandon Figueroa
- 33:55SPEAKER_00: and we're like, wow, that was eight months ago.
- 33:59SPEAKER_00: It feels like eight or nine weeks ago because it's just been this massive void
- 34:03SPEAKER_00: of nothing really happening.
- 34:06SPEAKER_00: You've had Inouye Nakatolane this year.
- 34:07SPEAKER_01: And then...
- 34:10SPEAKER_01: I mean, Benavidez Zorda was a good fight.
- 34:12SPEAKER_01: Benavidez just made it look like a bad fight.
- 34:15SPEAKER_01: And that's also kind of a gut punch when you're like, oh, this is a good fight.
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: And then the guy just goes in there.
- 34:20SPEAKER_01: Which could be what happens with Dubois-Wardley, right?
- 34:23SPEAKER_01: To go full circle is that first fight was amazing.
- 34:26SPEAKER_01: But what happens if Dubois stops him in two rounds?
- 34:28SPEAKER_01: Then all of a sudden, I think a lot of people forget how good the first fight was, right?
- 34:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 34:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 34:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's a good point, but, yeah, I mean, it's just a mess.
- 34:41SPEAKER_00: And if they postpone this event, like,
- 34:44SPEAKER_00: I know personally there's fighters with eliminators for certain positions
- 34:51SPEAKER_00: that are sort of waiting to have fights approved,
- 34:55SPEAKER_00: and they can't have it until those fights have happened.
- 35:00SPEAKER_00: And if it gets postponed, it pushes a lot of people back.
- 35:05SPEAKER_00: I'm sure that people can work out who that is, but I can't say.
- 35:12SPEAKER_00: Let me interrupt you there so we
- 35:14SPEAKER_01: don't get in trouble.
- 35:15SPEAKER_01: But I think that the big thing too is I was on my diatribe on X a few weeks ago
- 35:25SPEAKER_01: and people were like, look, October is shaping up to be a good month.
- 35:28SPEAKER_01: Halfway through October, this fight week doesn't excite me.
- 35:32SPEAKER_01: Fundora's fight,
- 35:33SPEAKER_01: I have a funny feeling Fundora's fight might be better than we think,
- 35:37SPEAKER_01: but it might be like more of a gut punch of like,
- 35:39SPEAKER_01: why is this fight kind of lasting this long?
- 35:42SPEAKER_01: But like next week, Shock, Foster, Navarrete is the big fight of the year.
- 35:46SPEAKER_01: Spoiler alert, I just think Shock is better than Navarrete.
- 35:49SPEAKER_01: Maybe I'm really wrong and biased,
- 35:51SPEAKER_01: but it just feels like if that's our big fight,
- 35:54SPEAKER_01: It's like a 70-30 matchup to me on paper.
- 35:56SPEAKER_01: It's not that compelling 50-50.
- 35:59SPEAKER_01: I mean,
- 35:59SPEAKER_01: it's just really been a year where it feels like guys are expecting bigger paydays
- 36:05SPEAKER_01: for those exciting fights and those paydays don't exist anymore.
- 36:09SPEAKER_01: And we might have guys that almost retire just because the sport is changing so much
- 36:16SPEAKER_01: and we almost need that new era of guy to replace the guys that should be at
- 36:20SPEAKER_01: the top right now.
- 36:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and we had Kalazo against Sandoval for that as well, don't we?
- 36:28SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I think you are right.
- 36:31SPEAKER_00: I think it's pretty well publicised that Saudi are either drawing back completely
- 36:37SPEAKER_00: at least somewhat of their funding of the sport.
- 36:40SPEAKER_00: And now it's sort of like,
- 36:42SPEAKER_00: you know, you've got guys that were being paid £3 million to fight
- 36:50SPEAKER_00: Edgar Belanger.
- 36:52SPEAKER_00: And then they're offered $750,000 to fight Jannebeck.
- 36:55SPEAKER_00: They're better fine.
- 36:57SPEAKER_00: They're saying no.
- 37:00SPEAKER_00: And that will be mirrored across multiple different divisions because
- 37:03SPEAKER_00: the money isn't there anymore.
- 37:04SPEAKER_00: And, you know, it's a tough business to make money in in the first place.
- 37:11SPEAKER_01: And, yeah.
- 37:14SPEAKER_01: What are your frustrations with the WBA?
- 37:18SPEAKER_00: Oh, God.
- 37:20SPEAKER_00: Oh, God.
- 37:21SPEAKER_00: I mean, it probably won't even happen now, but...
- 37:26SPEAKER_00: So, Bectomir Medecuzzi wins the Eliminator against Fulgham.
- 37:32SPEAKER_00: Gets the order, Nolan Gears fighting Nikita's on.
- 37:35SPEAKER_00: They're either approving it or not approving it or doing whatever.
- 37:38SPEAKER_00: They've got the Jack Hatch from Nonsense.
- 37:44SPEAKER_00: Sort of with Tfimo Lopez where they've written,
- 37:47SPEAKER_00: they've given assurances to Lopez that he can fight a unification and
- 37:51SPEAKER_00: then given assurances to catch all that he's going to get a fight
- 37:54SPEAKER_00: against Lopez straight away.
- 38:00SPEAKER_00: You probably haven't because you've got more sense than me.
- 38:03SPEAKER_00: But I read the WBA statement with the Saigo-Lukui against the David Jimenez fight,
- 38:09SPEAKER_00: which is a really good fight that's happening in November.
- 38:13SPEAKER_00: But David Jimenez got upgraded after Bam Rodriguez moved up to 118 and got ordered
- 38:22SPEAKER_00: to fight Scrappy Ramirez, the golden boy fighter.
- 38:24SPEAKER_00: They pretty much said,
- 38:26SPEAKER_00: oh yeah,
- 38:26SPEAKER_00: we know we've ordered it,
- 38:27SPEAKER_00: but the WBA reserves the right to allow other fighters, even if we've ordered stuff.
- 38:32SPEAKER_00: So what's the point?
- 38:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:37SPEAKER_01: Basically what you're saying is there's a frustration of a lack of consistency.
- 38:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and the lack of caring from a lot of people as well.
- 38:51SPEAKER_00: I get the sense that not a lot of people actually care about mandatories
- 38:54SPEAKER_00: if their name doesn't do clicks or they can't call someone a duck off the back
- 39:01SPEAKER_00: of it, to be honest.
- 39:04SPEAKER_00: Which is what it is, but it just winds me up quite a lot.
- 39:11SPEAKER_00: There's guys that have been sat on mandatory shots for ages.
- 39:14SPEAKER_00: Like, who cares about Mirko Aguero at this point?
- 39:17SPEAKER_00: You know?
- 39:19SPEAKER_00: One Eliminator got ordered to fight for the third weight title.
- 39:24SPEAKER_00: Got told to fight in an interim title fight and then Figueroa gets ordered because,
- 39:28SPEAKER_00: you know, just because you're interim champion doesn't mean you're mandatory.
- 39:32SPEAKER_00: And then they strip him of the interim title because they're reducing the amount
- 39:35SPEAKER_00: of titles they have.
- 39:37SPEAKER_00: So...
- 39:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, it's just boxing.
- 39:42SPEAKER_00: I think UBOs are a bad thing,
- 39:47SPEAKER_00: but when the sanctioning bodies act like that, who can really blame them?
- 39:53SPEAKER_00: Who can really blame anyone for wanting a UBO when the sanctioning bodies are acting like that?
- 39:57SPEAKER_00: But it is what it is.
- 40:02SPEAKER_00: But what I will say is I'm going to circle back to a positive point.
- 40:06SPEAKER_00: And a controversial take, I think.
- 40:10SPEAKER_00: You said the Fandora fight might be a bit better than people think.
- 40:14SPEAKER_00: I think there's going to be an upset on that card.
- 40:17SPEAKER_00: I've got a sneaky feeling that Tomoki Kameena might beat Brandon Fiboro.
- 40:23SPEAKER_01: I wanted to try to beat you in there because I'm feeling...
- 40:28SPEAKER_01: But let me talk you out of it.
- 40:31SPEAKER_01: The one thing that scares me about that fight is Kameda has never won the big fight.
- 40:38SPEAKER_01: He's gotten there, but he always loses.
- 40:40SPEAKER_01: But that said, that Angelo Leo fight was a lot closer than I think people realize.
- 40:47SPEAKER_01: And Figaro has got that crash and burn style.
- 40:49SPEAKER_01: Talk me into it now.
- 40:53SPEAKER_00: It's an outside sort of shout, obviously.
- 40:56SPEAKER_00: There's red flags with Kamayla.
- 40:58SPEAKER_00: He's probably a little bit smaller.
- 41:01SPEAKER_00: But I think maybe...
- 41:06SPEAKER_00: I don't think Figueroa really looked good for a few years.
- 41:10SPEAKER_00: I think the netball performance was good.
- 41:12SPEAKER_00: And I talked myself into picking him to win that final fight week as well.
- 41:16SPEAKER_00: So I pat myself on the back.
- 41:17SPEAKER_00: But...
- 41:19SPEAKER_00: I think there was a lot of questions around that ball.
- 41:23SPEAKER_00: Joe Gonzalez, he got beat up in that fight and got a gift.
- 41:27SPEAKER_00: Fulton loses pretty much every round.
- 41:30SPEAKER_00: And I just think there's all the signs that he's had one really good performance
- 41:34SPEAKER_00: to bounce back and he's just going to slide back into what he was before
- 41:37SPEAKER_00: the ball fight.
- 41:39SPEAKER_00: I think Tomoki's strong.
- 41:43SPEAKER_00: He's used to pressure fighting Mexicans.
- 41:49SPEAKER_00: And he's just so hittable, Figueroa.
- 41:51SPEAKER_01: I think there's a chance that there's an upset there.
- 41:54SPEAKER_00: But I get what you're saying completely about him.
- 41:56SPEAKER_00: They've already won the big fight.
- 41:58SPEAKER_00: But I just think, I think the stars are aligning for, in a way, to fight Akameda.
- 42:06SPEAKER_01: It does.
- 42:09SPEAKER_01: If you're a narrative guy, it does feel like everything's lining up for that.
- 42:14SPEAKER_01: But then there's another part of me that whenever Figueroa fights a guy like this,
- 42:19SPEAKER_01: he tends to outlast him.
- 42:22SPEAKER_01: I've heard people say Figueroa is going to have a chin issue.
- 42:25SPEAKER_01: To me, it's more about when he slows down physically.
- 42:29SPEAKER_01: He takes a lot of punches and it's like when the reflexes aren't there,
- 42:33SPEAKER_01: it's going to be a rough hang.
- 42:35SPEAKER_01: I just feel like this is a 50-50 fight because they both get hit
- 42:38SPEAKER_01: and they both punch each other.
- 42:40SPEAKER_01: So it's like whoever lands the bigger shot.
- 42:42SPEAKER_01: I think Tokars, correct me if I'm wrong.
- 42:44SPEAKER_01: Is this a fight where whoever takes a better punch is winning the fight?
- 42:49SPEAKER_00: Potentially.
- 42:51SPEAKER_00: Or it's whoever's comfortable firing back.
- 42:57SPEAKER_00: Not necessarily how they take it.
- 43:00SPEAKER_00: Because if you get punched into a guard, then it's not a good thing.
- 43:02SPEAKER_00: But I get the sense there's going to become a point with Figueroa where he goes like
- 43:07SPEAKER_00: a Jared Hurd or a Joe Joyce.
- 43:10SPEAKER_00: Sort of these big imposing physical guys that use their engine and their strength
- 43:16SPEAKER_00: and their chin.
- 43:17SPEAKER_00: And they're just these horrible guys to fight.
- 43:19SPEAKER_00: They're constantly on you.
- 43:20SPEAKER_00: They're so strong.
- 43:23SPEAKER_00: And then when it goes, it really, really goes.
- 43:26SPEAKER_00: And you're sort of looking at them like, how the hell was that guy able to win these fights?
- 43:31SPEAKER_00: How was he any good?
- 43:34SPEAKER_00: But it's sort of the intangibles that you don't really see.
- 43:37SPEAKER_00: I think there's potential that Figueroa could just go at any point now.
- 43:42SPEAKER_00: And it might not be this week,
- 43:44SPEAKER_00: but it could be in a fight's time or another fight's time because he's just got
- 43:48SPEAKER_00: that style.
- 43:51SPEAKER_01: Can I give you the Uncle Lukie rule?
- 43:54SPEAKER_01: Go on.
- 43:55SPEAKER_01: I'm always one fight off from guessing it.
- 43:59SPEAKER_01: So I think I see it.
- 44:01SPEAKER_01: I'm one fight off.
- 44:02SPEAKER_01: And then I'm like, okay, he's back.
- 44:03SPEAKER_01: And then he loses.
- 44:04SPEAKER_01: So now when I feel that way, I feel like I'm one fight away.
- 44:07SPEAKER_01: So it almost makes me wonder, are you one fight off or are you right on the money?
- 44:12SPEAKER_01: Because when I feel this way, I'm like, it's always one fight after.
- 44:17SPEAKER_01: It's like a weird pattern that now I feel like I can almost call it.
- 44:21SPEAKER_01: Because for five years, I'm like, this is the fight.
- 44:23SPEAKER_01: And I was one fight off.
- 44:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 44:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, I could be wrong, but it's a good fight.
- 44:31SPEAKER_00: I mean, Kameda doesn't deserve the fight.
- 44:40SPEAKER_01: It's just strange, but whatever, boxing is weird, so we'll just run with it.
- 44:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but it's a fun match-up style-wise.
- 44:49SPEAKER_00: Really fun match-up style-wise, I think.
- 44:52SPEAKER_01: I mean, I think that also,
- 44:55SPEAKER_01: and don't get me wrong,
- 44:56SPEAKER_01: shout out my guy Anthony Cox from Australia,
- 44:59SPEAKER_01: Mazzoutier,
- 45:00SPEAKER_01: I don't think beats Resendez,
- 45:02SPEAKER_01: but I think there's also a world
- 45:03SPEAKER_01: where Resendez might not have been training super hard,
- 45:06SPEAKER_01: gets a phone call and the fight gets weird.
- 45:11SPEAKER_01: We just saw Mendoza get off the couch and win a fight that no one really expected,
- 45:16SPEAKER_01: myself included.
- 45:17SPEAKER_01: I didn't even preview the fight because I thought it was that one-sided.
- 45:21SPEAKER_01: And Mizzou Diere,
- 45:23SPEAKER_01: to me, is just the definition of a limited guy gets hit too much, doesn't hit hard.
- 45:28SPEAKER_01: But Resendez was, before the Caleb Plant, kind of viewed as a high-level gatekeeper.
- 45:34SPEAKER_01: And...
- 45:36SPEAKER_01: I don't know, like that one scares me too.
- 45:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's a weird card.
- 45:43SPEAKER_00: Because we haven't really talked about the Fandora fight, but Harder of Bile, how do you say it?
- 45:50SPEAKER_00: I don't think he really has a chance to win, but I think he can make Fandora look quite bad.
- 45:56SPEAKER_00: I think it's a weird card.
- 45:59SPEAKER_00: I think it's going to be sneaky quite good.
- 46:01SPEAKER_00: Like, Even though the match-ups aren't premier match-ups, I think it could be quite fun.
- 46:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:11SPEAKER_01: I mean, but do you get what I'm saying?
- 46:15SPEAKER_01: Like, is there possibly a world where he's like halfway in camp?
- 46:18SPEAKER_01: Maybe he was fighting on this date, but he's like, okay, I'm getting a tune-up fight.
- 46:22SPEAKER_01: And now you're in this fight and you've got a guy that trained for two full camps
- 46:25SPEAKER_01: against Charlo.
- 46:26SPEAKER_01: He's having the camps of his life and he goes out and has one good performance,
- 46:30SPEAKER_01: beats a former world champion.
- 46:32SPEAKER_01: And then we get Jermell Charlo versus him in a main event because,
- 46:36SPEAKER_01: you know, he just won a big fight.
- 46:42SPEAKER_00: The Trollos aren't fighting again.
- 46:44SPEAKER_00: The Trollos are never going to fight again.
- 46:47SPEAKER_00: Forget them.
- 46:48SPEAKER_00: We need to forget the Trollos.
- 46:49SPEAKER_01: Dakota said they're just not responsible people.
- 46:52SPEAKER_01: He's just like, they're just not responsible.
- 46:55SPEAKER_01: I don't trust them as adults,
- 46:57SPEAKER_00: let alone fighters.
- 47:00SPEAKER_01: I mean, yeah, but I think the card's good.
- 47:03SPEAKER_01: I agree with you with Ermal.
- 47:05SPEAKER_01: I can say Ermal.
- 47:06SPEAKER_01: I can't say his last name.
- 47:07SPEAKER_01: I feel like there's going to be a point where winning to him is not getting stopped
- 47:12SPEAKER_01: and frustrating Fundora.
- 47:14SPEAKER_01: And Fundora in this fight, to me at least, is either going to do one of two things.
- 47:18SPEAKER_01: He's going to show me he's exceptional and beat a guy who's tricky and in there to survive.
- 47:24SPEAKER_01: And I'm going to go, wow, I underrated this guy.
- 47:26SPEAKER_01: He's an elite operator.
- 47:28SPEAKER_01: He can be at the top.
- 47:29SPEAKER_01: Or we're going to remember that Jamonte Clark fight where he fought a southpaw
- 47:33SPEAKER_01: and it was weird.
- 47:34SPEAKER_01: And I think the knock on Fundora was there was always range gaps because of his height.
- 47:39SPEAKER_01: Like he never could fully extend on punches.
- 47:42SPEAKER_01: And it was like you kind of felt like a Paul Williams type or a Willie Nelson type
- 47:46SPEAKER_01: where he had to fight you on the inside.
- 47:49SPEAKER_01: And I think that really since Cordell Booker,
- 47:51SPEAKER_01: the second Tim Zhu fight,
- 47:52SPEAKER_01: and especially with Thurman,
- 47:54SPEAKER_01: He's shown an ability to keep distance,
- 47:56SPEAKER_01: but the pessimist,
- 47:57SPEAKER_01: like my guy Adam Noble-Forcey said last week,
- 48:00SPEAKER_01: I think there's another person that goes, is that just perfect matchups?
- 48:04SPEAKER_01: Are those the guys that allow him to fight that way because of whatever?
- 48:09SPEAKER_01: And I think this fight will tell us a bit about Fendora,
- 48:12SPEAKER_01: about is he the elite guy that's up there with the boots and Virgil?
- 48:17SPEAKER_01: Or is he a guy that's kind of benefited and improved because of the people in front of him?
- 48:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah,
- 48:27SPEAKER_00: I
- 48:32SPEAKER_00: get the sense that he has improved, but he's not improved that much.
- 48:38SPEAKER_00: Not that much, but to that degree where he's just going to blow something like this away.
- 48:44SPEAKER_00: I think he might sort of be made to look ordinary, but still win very, very clearly.
- 48:50SPEAKER_00: Sort of one of those fights because the expectations are so low for the opponent.
- 48:57SPEAKER_01: But yeah, it's a weird... Let me throw this at you, Tokers.
- 49:03SPEAKER_01: What's the one thing you don't want to see Fundora doing in this fight?
- 49:06SPEAKER_01: What's the Tokers' one thing you don't want to see Fundora have happen against him?
- 49:13SPEAKER_00: Whew.
- 49:19SPEAKER_00: I don't want to see him unable to cut a ring.
- 49:25SPEAKER_00: I think that's sort of,
- 49:27SPEAKER_00: he's had a lot of guys that were just there and if Herder Bayer goes on,
- 49:34SPEAKER_00: I've said it about three different ways,
- 49:36SPEAKER_00: if he goes on the retreat and sort of just gets on his bike
- 49:42SPEAKER_00: and Fandora can't cut him off, it could get really boring.
- 49:47SPEAKER_00: I want to see him set traps,
- 49:49SPEAKER_00: sort of manipulate him with his sort of length,
- 49:53SPEAKER_00: cut the ring and back him up his corners and keep him there.
- 49:58SPEAKER_00: And yeah, if he can't cut the ring off properly against this guy,
- 50:04SPEAKER_00: it's going to be one boring fight because it would just be sort
- 50:06SPEAKER_00: of Thunderbird jabbing against his guard and not being able to land the second
- 50:13SPEAKER_00: or third shot.
- 50:15SPEAKER_00: And it'll be very boring, but hopefully it isn't like that.
- 50:17SPEAKER_00: Hopefully just Fundora sort of cuts for him.
- 50:20SPEAKER_00: But we'll see.
- 50:21SPEAKER_00: We'll see.
- 50:22SPEAKER_00: I get the sense it will be a little bit like that.
- 50:25SPEAKER_00: But then it will sort of grind him down.
- 50:27SPEAKER_00: It will stop him about eight or nine when his legs sort of go a little bit and he can't run.
- 50:41SPEAKER_01: This is the thing, right?
- 50:42SPEAKER_01: When you make so much boxing content is you see every scenario possible
- 50:46SPEAKER_01: because you talk about it from all these different angles.
- 50:48SPEAKER_01: So I see a world where maybe Fendora catches him three rounds.
- 50:51SPEAKER_01: Everyone's like, why would why this fight happen?
- 50:54SPEAKER_01: I think that it's either going to be a one-sided Pandora stoppage quick,
- 50:58SPEAKER_01: or it's just going to go on and on.
- 51:00SPEAKER_01: And boxing Twitter is going to go, why is Pandora struggling with this guy?
- 51:04SPEAKER_01: I think for me, the big one is, it's not as much the movement.
- 51:09SPEAKER_01: He's got a little bit of that Sam Solomon to him where he's all the way out and
- 51:12SPEAKER_01: then he kind of clubs you.
- 51:12SPEAKER_01: They're not hard punches, but then he'll grab you and then he'll go out.
- 51:31SPEAKER_01: It's like it feels like if he gets going, this could be a head clash fight.
- 51:36SPEAKER_01: This could be a weird, awkward fight.
- 51:39SPEAKER_01: There could be a lot of like warnings.
- 51:42SPEAKER_01: And I feel like what Ermel does good is he like slows and offsets pace and rhythm
- 51:48SPEAKER_01: when he gets in.
- 51:48SPEAKER_01: So it's like the fights are real messed up and the pace isn't very good.
- 51:54SPEAKER_01: And that's where he thrives.
- 51:56SPEAKER_01: And if that becomes the pace, even if Endora wins, it'll be weird.
- 52:00SPEAKER_01: That's the fight I'm seeing.
- 52:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 52:03SPEAKER_00: Like, it's a phrase I nicked from my dad.
- 52:10SPEAKER_00: He's a professional spoiler.
- 52:13SPEAKER_00: And he's really good at just making people look bad.
- 52:16SPEAKER_00: And not necessarily winning fights, but he just makes horrible viewing.
- 52:21SPEAKER_00: And you sort of get a lot of them, sort of, you get a lot of them in Europe.
- 52:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 52:28SPEAKER_00: In European title fights a lot, you get these guys that make the fight really messy and sloppy.
- 52:36SPEAKER_00: It's not good.
- 52:37SPEAKER_01: I just think that there's two worlds.
- 52:41SPEAKER_01: He's taken a huge step up in competition.
- 52:43SPEAKER_01: If he gets hit with a shot and goes,
- 52:45SPEAKER_01: oh my god, I've never been hit like that, probably a short night.
- 52:48SPEAKER_01: If he gets in there and goes,
- 52:49SPEAKER_01: oh, this guy's not as good as I thought, oh my god, we get a bad fight.
- 52:53SPEAKER_01: That's the worlds I see.
- 52:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think it could be a Could be pretty boring, unfortunately.
- 53:03SPEAKER_01: Final thought, Tokers, because we've kept you on too long, is Carlos Adami's Tazufa Boxing.
- 53:10SPEAKER_01: Love Dana White with the sword.
- 53:12SPEAKER_01: The sword is a big part of those signings.
- 53:14SPEAKER_01: I love that the sword comes out.
- 53:18SPEAKER_01: I mean, they've got a good middleweight roster now.
- 53:20SPEAKER_01: Middleweight's kind of been a division that sucked since Golovkin left.
- 53:25SPEAKER_01: It's been indifferent.
- 53:26SPEAKER_01: Janabek was probably the best guy, but for whatever reason, we couldn't get the fights.
- 53:30SPEAKER_01: Now they got Denzel Bentley, Shane Mosley, and Carlos Adamis and Aaron McKenna.
- 53:34SPEAKER_01: I almost forgot my guy, Aaron McKenna.
- 53:37SPEAKER_01: Is part of Zufa Boxing maybe to make the middleweight boxing division again great?
- 53:42SPEAKER_01: Is that something?
- 53:43SPEAKER_01: What are your thoughts on this signing?
- 53:46SPEAKER_00: Good fighter, good signing.
- 53:48SPEAKER_00: Weird because...
- 53:51SPEAKER_01: It's weird because they haven't already done US shows for six months.
- 53:55SPEAKER_00: They had the Ben fight,
- 53:57SPEAKER_00: which was sort of a Zufa show, sort of wasn't sort of a ring show, whatever.
- 54:03SPEAKER_00: But apart from that, they haven't really done US shows for a while.
- 54:06SPEAKER_00: But I think Adamez is good.
- 54:09SPEAKER_00: I think they might sort of force him,
- 54:13SPEAKER_00: or the WEC might try to force him into the Un Assault Enough fight.
- 54:18SPEAKER_00: That sounds like a Zufa sort of fight, Un Assault Enough against Adamez.
- 54:24SPEAKER_00: Bentley, there's the weird situation with the WBO.
- 54:28SPEAKER_00: McKenna, there's the situation with Omari Jones.
- 54:32SPEAKER_00: It's all sort of weird because these guys even want to kick their titles when I don't.
- 54:38SPEAKER_00: And if they want to kick their titles, they have to fight non-Zufa guys.
- 54:42SPEAKER_00: I think it's the division that you're going to see sort of a guinea pig division in sort of.
- 54:51SPEAKER_00: We're going to take away the belts and just fight in between us in our little league.
- 54:56SPEAKER_00: And you can have the belts if you want them.
- 54:59SPEAKER_00: I think that's the sort of play they're going to try and do.
- 55:01SPEAKER_00: And it's weird because the best middleweight in the world might not be there.
- 55:08SPEAKER_00: The best middleweight in the world could be Erleny Hernandez.
- 55:10SPEAKER_00: It could be Omari Jones.
- 55:12SPEAKER_00: It could be sort of a dry talker.
- 55:14SPEAKER_00: It could be Zander Zayas.
- 55:17SPEAKER_00: You don't really know.
- 55:21SPEAKER_00: So yeah,
- 55:21SPEAKER_00: I think it's an interesting sign and I think there's potentially good fights there
- 55:25SPEAKER_00: and it might get some momentum for Adames because all Adames seems to be doing at
- 55:29SPEAKER_00: the moment is sort of sitting on Twitter saying everyone's ducking him.
- 55:36SPEAKER_01: That's a really good move, by the way.
- 55:37SPEAKER_01: I actually am a pretty big fan of that.
- 55:40SPEAKER_01: As a big Twitter guy,
- 55:41SPEAKER_01: I love it when fighters just bring that experience right to my living room.
- 55:46SPEAKER_01: I mean...
- 55:51SPEAKER_00: I'm just sort of sat there saying everyone's scared of me.
- 55:56SPEAKER_00: For no root.
- 55:56SPEAKER_00: It's like, oh yeah, do you want to fight?
- 55:58SPEAKER_00: No, but everyone's scared of me.
- 56:02SPEAKER_00: And yeah, we love that, don't we?
- 56:07SPEAKER_00: But it's a weird sort of division.
- 56:12SPEAKER_00: And we said it before, it's a weird time.
- 56:14SPEAKER_00: Zufra did actually acknowledge the WBC title when they signed them,
- 56:18SPEAKER_00: which is another weird thing.
- 56:20SPEAKER_00: That shouldn't be weird, but it is weird.
- 56:23SPEAKER_00: Acknowledging a world champion as a belt,
- 56:25SPEAKER_00: that's somehow weird now because they haven't done it before.
- 56:31SPEAKER_00: And I get the sense, Lukie,
- 56:37SPEAKER_00: I get the sense that Zufa Boxing is going to murph and sort of mould or sort of go
- 56:43SPEAKER_00: into the sort of shape of an early era PBC.
- 56:49SPEAKER_00: So they'll play with the belts.
- 56:50SPEAKER_00: It feels like that.
- 56:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 56:54SPEAKER_00: They'll sort of play with the belts, still have the belts.
- 56:56SPEAKER_00: They've got a lot of money.
- 56:59SPEAKER_00: Throwing a load of money around and keeping in-house fights.
- 57:02SPEAKER_00: And that's what I sort of see with them.
- 57:07SPEAKER_00: Then again, a lot of their funding comes from Saudi Arabia.
- 57:10SPEAKER_00: Let me throw this to you.
- 57:15SPEAKER_01: What do you think about Zufa mostly being a UK boxing?
- 57:20SPEAKER_01: Like there's no Zufa boxing show till the end of the year so far in the US.
- 57:25SPEAKER_01: Feels like since July,
- 57:28SPEAKER_01: really outside like the Connor,
- 57:29SPEAKER_01: Ben, Ryan Garcia fight, it's been a UK based company.
- 57:33SPEAKER_01: Is this a trend?
- 57:35SPEAKER_01: Or do you think that like,
- 57:36SPEAKER_01: is it just for in the US,
- 57:38SPEAKER_01: you might not be aware, but we have American football, the NFL, it's a big thing.
- 57:43SPEAKER_01: Maybe they're avoiding doing shows when that's on.
- 57:46SPEAKER_01: But to me,
- 57:47SPEAKER_01: that's a little troubling that You know,
- 57:50SPEAKER_01: this we're lacking shows and Zufa Boxing actually put on pretty good shows and
- 57:55SPEAKER_01: the U.S.
- 57:56SPEAKER_01: is not getting shows from Zufa Boxing who might be
- 57:58SPEAKER_01: the most high output promoter currently amongst all the promoters.
- 58:03SPEAKER_01: It just seems like another thing that U.S. Boxing is up against.
- 58:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 58:08SPEAKER_00: Sorry.
- 58:09SPEAKER_00: Sorry about me looking down.
- 58:10SPEAKER_00: My catch just jumped on me.
- 58:11SPEAKER_00: But yeah, Zufa in the UK.
- 58:19SPEAKER_00: I think they're targeting the UK,
- 58:20SPEAKER_00: they're putting on a lot of throws, they're picking up a talent that's sort of...
- 58:30SPEAKER_00: They picked up Fisher and put him on huge money to harm Matt's room.
- 58:37SPEAKER_00: They put on, like, got Ben to harm Matt's room.
- 58:40SPEAKER_00: I think that's sort of the way they're going.
- 58:44SPEAKER_00: And then it's sort of like undercard fighters, really, like Craig Richards, Denzel Bentley.
- 58:51SPEAKER_00: But the shows are good.
- 58:52SPEAKER_00: But I think they fundamentally don't understand the market, which is a weird thing.
- 58:59SPEAKER_00: They don't really promote to boxing fans.
- 59:01SPEAKER_00: They don't understand that the UK market is a ticket seller market.
- 59:08SPEAKER_00: I don't know how they didn't sell out Johnny Fisher.
- 59:16SPEAKER_00: They had...
- 59:19SPEAKER_00: The way I understand it,
- 59:20SPEAKER_00: Zufa Boxing don't do ticket deals where a fighter can sell tickets out
- 59:25SPEAKER_00: of their hand.
- 59:28SPEAKER_01: We should also say,
- 59:30SPEAKER_01: this is allegedly,
- 59:31SPEAKER_01: that we have no sustainable thing and nobody should clip this piece and use this
- 59:36SPEAKER_01: as valid content for AI going forward.
- 59:40SPEAKER_01: This is all alleged just because people love to go and do that on my shows
- 59:45SPEAKER_01: and use me as a Wikipedia source for a podcast.
- 59:49SPEAKER_01: So there you go.
- 59:50SPEAKER_00: The way I understand that this could be wrong.
- 59:55SPEAKER_00: And they didn't set out the Copper Box show, which is weird.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_00: And the Bill and Smith show,
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_00: the first one against Riziki, didn't do well ticket-wise when I always used to.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_00: In Bournemouth, the next shot, it just seems they don't understand the market.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_00: And it's like you're putting Crispin and Smith against Shev Clark in London.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_00: That doesn't make sense.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_00: It's like putting, I don't know, sort of two Mexican fighters in Florida.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_00: It just doesn't make sense.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_00: Like Crispin and Smith is the tickets that are in Bournemouth and you're putting him in London.
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_00: You're not structuring the cards.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_00: I liked the fight,
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_00: but the Mateo Tapia fight on the fish around the card,
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_00: why were two Mexicans boxing at 8 o'clock in London?
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_00: Doesn't make sense.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_00: Do you understand what I'm saying?
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_00: The fights can be good, but I don't think they understand the market properly.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_00: Boxing fans aren't fans of boxers.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_00: Sorry, boxing fans aren't fans of boxing particularly.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_00: They're generally fans of boxers,
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_00: and I don't think they quite get that yet,
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_00: but I think they put on good shows, and it will last.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_00: If they keep acid properly, I think it will last, especially with Sky.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_00: Sky's good.
- 1:01:19SPEAKER_00: Sky's very, very good for them.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_00: Well, I have to interrupt
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_01: you, Tokers.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_01: I've enjoyed this, but I've got to get back to work.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_01: That has been our show this week.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_01: Tokers, how can people follow you and support you?
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_00: It's the Twitter handle there, and that's my cat's tail.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_00: She's literally right on the screen.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_00: And what's your cat's name?
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_00: Daisy.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_00: Daisy.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_01: Okay, so goodbye to you and Daisy.
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_01: Daisy's trying to make a cameo.
- 1:01:47SPEAKER_00: There she is.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_00: There she is.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_00: We go.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_00: But go on, go on.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, find me on Twitter and the podcast, the Championship Rounds.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_00: If we bring it back, which we're talking about, we might do, we might not.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_00: It certainly won't be in the sort of way we did it before if we do.
- 1:02:09SPEAKER_00: But on there as well on YouTube, there's a Twitter account.
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_00: It's linked in my Twitter.
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_00: So yeah, we'll see.
- 1:02:15SPEAKER_00: Just on Twitter though, I'm usually on there.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_00: You can find me there.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_00: Just sort of
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_00: A lot of the stuff I post is quite sarcastic about boxing now
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_00: because I think like everyone else,
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_00: I'm starting to feel the effects of what a rough year it's been.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_00: But yeah, you can find me on there.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_01: Well, we appreciate you so much.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_01: And by we, I mean me.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_01: And I think that you're a wealth of knowledge and it's always a ton of fun to have you on.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_01: Thank you for letting me waste some of your evening in the UK to help people
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_01: that love our boxing content be well informed this week.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_00: Thank you, man.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_00: I always enjoy coming on there.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_00: It's always a good bit of fun.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_00: Thank you for having me again.
