- 0:01Hey. Everybody, welcome to the Good
- 0:03Morning from the Chicken Coop podcast.
- 0:05My name is Kim Johnson and I am a mastermindset, coach, creative
- 0:08strategist, and also happen to be a farmer.
- 0:11This is my chicken coop and I come out here every.
- 0:13Day to record a podcast to. Teach distinctions,
- 0:17possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring some.
- 0:20Joy into the world, so welcome to the.
- 0:22Coop and let's start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning. How often do you tell yourself
- 0:32something about yourself and it's kind of programmed in and
- 0:36you have no idea where it came from?
- 0:38So I'll give you an example of what I'm talking about.
- 0:41I have a green thumb. Like that is without question.
- 0:44I have a green thumb. I've always heard that from
- 0:47everybody when I was a kid growing up.
- 0:51I obviously have this farm. I start a lot of plants from
- 0:55seed. I grow gardens filled with
- 0:58flowers, vegetables. I have plants all around the
- 1:02house. I've cultivated inside.
- 1:04I mean, I keep things alive. I find dead things on the side
- 1:08of the road. I bring them home, I bring them
- 1:09back to life. My money tree being one of the
- 1:12biggest ones that I've ever had the hugest success with it.
- 1:15I mean, it went from being just like a braided little lump on
- 1:19the side of the road. Probably about like the braid,
- 1:23you know how they braid the the body of it And it was probably
- 1:27about, I'm going to say 6 to 8 inches in diameter.
- 1:31So it was a beautiful braid, but it only had it was the whole
- 1:34thing was about 14, 10 inches tall and it had like 3 leaves on
- 1:39it at the time. And it was just the root ball
- 1:41and she threw it on the side. Of the road and I picked it up
- 1:43and brought it home and I was so angry I mean I was pissed off
- 1:47that this woman, this neighbor I had at the time in the other
- 1:50neighborhood we lived in just tossed it on the sidewalk and,
- 1:54and, and it was like 90° outside so hot and I just was like OK,
- 1:59that's it. And I brought it home and I sat
- 2:02and I talked to it and I fixed it.
- 2:03And now this, this tree is a behemoth in our dining room that
- 2:07just keeps growing. And I think right now it's
- 2:10probably about 11 feet tall. And it's got hundreds of leaves
- 2:16on it and very abundant. So I have a green thumb.
- 2:20And as I said, I've always been told that just like my
- 2:22grandmother built me up and said, you are so creative.
- 2:26So it was like, yes, I was told I am creative.
- 2:29I was told I live in my imagination.
- 2:31So those things are my reality because that's what I was told.
- 2:36Now, I was also told I wasn't good in math and I math did not
- 2:41come easy to me. Anything that wasn't like money,
- 2:44math did not come easy to me. Algebra, geometry, none of that
- 2:49came easy to me. And if it wasn't for my friend
- 2:52Barden when I was a child to help me get through it, I
- 2:55probably would have like had a nervous breakdown over it.
- 2:58But because of him, I was able to, you know, get through it and
- 3:02and pass it. But I was told I wasn't good at
- 3:05it. And my point is, isn't it funny
- 3:09that we have these things that we think we're not good at?
- 3:11Just like my cooking skills, I can bake and I always told
- 3:16myself I could bake, but I couldn't cook because I need a
- 3:20recipe. When the last couple of weeks,
- 3:22the situation in my family, I have cooked a lot and I have had
- 3:28to follow recipes. And you want to know what it
- 3:31worked out fine because I had a recipe, I had something I could
- 3:35follow and I did not just a good job.
- 3:38I've done an outstanding job cooking for two households for
- 3:42weeks, and not every day, but enough that it's built my
- 3:47confidence back up. And it really got me thinking
- 3:49about those Iams. And I've talked a lot about this
- 3:53because the most powerful words we can use with ourselves
- 3:56anywhere, anytime is I am whatever I am blank.
- 3:59Doesn't matter what you're putting after it.
- 4:00Those are powerful words and they're dangerous words and
- 4:04they're just omnipotent words because they push us so much.
- 4:09They're our identity. They are part of who we are.
- 4:12They can be very dangerous when used in a negative way and oh so
- 4:17powerful when used in a positive way.
- 4:20So got me thinking about the fact that I, I have always said
- 4:25that I wasn't good at cooking. And now all of a sudden when I
- 4:30have, you know, a recipe, a good recipe and a cookbook, I'm, I'm
- 4:35really good and I've done a variety of different foods.
- 4:38So where are we using that in our lives that's holding us
- 4:42back? Where are we using those most
- 4:44powerful words in a way that doesn't lift us up and changing
- 4:49them? Instead of saying, I am terrible
- 4:51at cooking now, I say, well, I'm really OK with it as long as I
- 4:57have a recipe. Now I know there's something I
- 4:59can follow and I can really do it.
- 5:01But I had never, I had done it here and there, but never put
- 5:03myself through a book boot camp with it like I just have.
- 5:06But that sounds so silly to say. Why hasn't she done that?
- 5:10Well, because I believe I wasn't good at it.
- 5:12So where else does this show up in your life?
- 5:14Just like the thing with the plants, people always will tell
- 5:17me, Oh my gosh, I wish I had that, that green thumb.
- 5:20Well, it's like, follow the recipe, ask for help, see what
- 5:24you can do, see where someone tells you you can be good at
- 5:27something like that. Growing plants is not hard.
- 5:30When you follow the recipe, it's it's really not.
- 5:33You just have to be willing to be consistent and care for them
- 5:36and follow the recipe. And that's the whole motto for
- 5:40today. What's the recipe for a healthy
- 5:42set of IMS so you can thrive. All right, my friends, I hope
- 5:47you go look for where you're using them in a negative way and
- 5:50let's try to find a way to reframe that and put it in a
- 5:53more positive light and then dive in with the right recipe.
- 5:57I hope you guys have a blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 6:00Bye.
