- 0:00[SPEAKER_02]: to some belief, not just belief in God, but I think it's in short to plan.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_02]: I think more of us need it, and if we don't have more of it, doubts gonna win it, doubt wins, we all gonna lose.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_02]: And we got stuff out there to believe in.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_02]: I think people are looking forward, I know I am.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_02]: I don't want to get it hang on in it, right?
- 0:18[SPEAKER_02]: What is it that I really want?
- 0:19[SPEAKER_02]: What is it that I really would like?
- 0:21[SPEAKER_02]: I want to be scared of the role that I'm gonna take on, because I'm not sure where it's gonna go, but I'm gonna trust that I'll come up on the other side.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_01]: We have to define success for ourselves.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_01]: And then we have to put in the work to maintain it.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_02]: And there are a lot of men that I know who were looking for that definition that would be like, I've been told what it's not.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_03]: And then now I don't know what it is.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_03]: Let's say someone has been kicked in the nuts.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_03]: I go to bed by life.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_03]: How do you advise them to sort of become the hero of their own story again?
- 0:57[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, man, that's a tough one.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_02]: That's a great question, you know?
- 1:03[SPEAKER_02]: I sit here with a life where I have the luxury to project, to ask myself and ask others, now, make a sacrifice today.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_02]: Sacrifice a plastic ring today for a gold crown tomorrow.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_02]: Sacrifice something today for more freedom tomorrow.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_02]: Sacrifice something today for a possible health of your future for your kids.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_02]: I understand that's a luxurious position.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not gonna apologize that I'm in and in it, but I understand to someone in misery, they're going, good for you, man.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_02]: I'm trying to feed families tonight.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not thinking past that.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_02]: I can't think past that.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_02]: What do you ask them to do?
- 1:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, my indirects.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_02]: thing I would say and understand is, well, if you don't have the hope or believe in something, you're going to end up, you're going to definitely have to remain where you are.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_02]: And if you have hope and faith into something, I'm not saying it's 100% good out of jail, you're going to absolutely get out, but you got the best chance, too.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the books about belief.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_02]: That's why I'm peddling here.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_02]: I need more of it.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_02]: I personally believe in God, but the whole thing's not for people that just believe in God.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_02]: believe in trying to pursue your better self, transcend itself, believe in the future, believe in your kids, believe in the past, something.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_02]: Don't know what that is, ask yourself what you die for.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_02]: Start there.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_02]: Everyone can believe in something.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_02]: There's an argument that even nihilists do believe nothing, nothing's even something.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_02]: I've never been able to really live with.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_02]: By hook up by Crook, I'll get it how I can get it.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_02]: I'll lie to you and steal to get it.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_02]: I got the prize, and I'm still okay.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_02]: I got it, my own shadow chases me down in the middle of the night.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_02]: And those nightmares do become my own daymares.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_02]: I have to, I think I naturally come back and look, I also, I'm a hustler.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not pure-itanical, I'm not making, I'm not trying to preach it.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_02]: Absolute straight narrow way to go things.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_02]: I bullshit my way into things and faked my way into making things.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_02]: Pulled off stunts.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_02]: Wait a minute, now.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_02]: So we're saying, if success is the key, success is the measurement, and you can get it by lying, cheating, stealing, and still be rewarded the gold medal.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_02]: That's what's happening.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_02]: Are we ready to say that's okay?
- 3:33[SPEAKER_02]: Are we ready to say that's just how it is?
- 3:35[SPEAKER_02]: We have leaders in positions now, they're saying, yeah, just win.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_02]: Well, just, just, just win, just succeed.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, okay, you get there, you did it.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_02]: Congratulations, come to the front of the line.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_02]: So what are the ethics?
- 3:51[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what the winner do.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_02]: Well, but they, wait, what about rules?
- 3:55[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah, by the way, the rules.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_02]: If you follow them, you're a sucker.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_02]: Ah, I started to find myself going to wait a minute.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not ready to wave that white flag.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_02]: Are we?
- 4:09[SPEAKER_02]: ready to wave that white flag, no.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_02]: We can see that's what it is because there's many reasons to do so.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_02]: And so I'm looking around it, people won't go on, I'm not finding things people to believe in and I'm finding harder to believe myself.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_00]: But although those people might get to the front of the queue and be awarded the medal, the medal that you're awarded or the queue that you get to the front of, might not actually give you.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_00]: what you want, and you start by sort of reframing success, which I think is a really important thing, especially for young generation, especially for men, who are the first to want to get to the top of the pyramid in certain pursuits of life.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, you can get to the top of the pile, or you can get the gold medal, but be careful, what that medal represents, and a medal in what?
- 4:55[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_02]: And want relevant for what?
- 4:58[SPEAKER_02]: We already relevant, okay, like relevant for what?
- 5:00[SPEAKER_02]: We want to succeed, but we want to succeed, do we act?
- 5:03[SPEAKER_02]: Is it worth it if we don't profit?
- 5:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you said, yeah.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, yeah.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_02]: If more, we're trained to go the quantity.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_02]: Is the, is the, is the goal.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_02]: That's it.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_02]: We're gonna have that sacrificing quality.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_02]: Or value, what, we actually value you.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_03]: What are you really winning?
- 5:27[SPEAKER_03]: Sometimes you can do everything right and still not get the result that you wanted and that seems like a really tough pill to swallow for people.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's why people become uncomfortable with fully filling their emotions.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_03]: So, what do you go?
- 5:44[SPEAKER_03]: What do you think when I really, I gave it my all that I bad myself and I still got kicked in the nut.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_02]: Not only did I feel like I deserve it, I feel like I earned it.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_02]: And I still didn't get it.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_02]: Wait a minute, but you said that's the playbook and I follow the playbook.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_02]: You said these were the rules and the regulations, I followed it.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_02]: And I was good at it.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_03]: I still didn't get it.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_03]: Is there something that you tried to remember about the upside of a crisis during a crisis?
- 6:17[SPEAKER_03]: So do we just need to ride that out?
- 6:19[SPEAKER_03]: Zooming out would be so beautiful and in retrospect, if only you could give yourself the gift of distance of time.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_03]: And yet you know something hard is going to come again.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_03]: And you're going to be swept away by the wave.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_02]: For me, it's an obvious dance to the boat, because you can't jump to the objective right away and go in Chala, oh fatal have it, this two-show pass, I'm not, I'm fine, no, because then you don't deal with the crisis.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_02]: I do have a good, I do have a pretty quick threshold for being able to laugh, like honestly starting giggling when I'm in the ship.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_02]: Because I've found that I'm able to handle the shit better.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_02]: If I just start the quick rest, start going, are you kidding me?
- 7:02[SPEAKER_02]: I'll get objective and remind myself things like, you going to I'm a kind of hay, which gives me that, ah, so this is not the big of a deal as I thought.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_02]: The result.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_02]: which we know there isn't really one and we cannot imitate someone else's exact result.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to have our own thing way to get there.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_02]: The approach is all.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_02]: I guess that's the best our life can get is one constant approach or with many different approaches.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_02]: But no one, we never, there is no result.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_03]: You know the story of Cicifus?
- 7:45[SPEAKER_03]: Man gets cursed, he gives a damn he got, gets cursed too.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_03]: Roll a boulder up a hill, it's heavy, heavy boulder.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_03]: He rolls it up hill and just as he gets to the very top.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_03]: He stumbles and it falls down and crushes him.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, and he needs to walk back to the bottom.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_03]: Turn around, pick it back up, and Albert Camus, famous line is we must imagine Cicifus happy that this pointless pursuit are that he finds joy in the process of doing it.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_02]: So, I'll grow up only knowing sort of the courage of the persistence.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_02]: Resilient, endure, get up, dashes up off, go.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_02]: The problem with that, the kill is healed with that, is if you get up and hit the courage to keep on going.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_02]: Every time you get up and dust yourself off, you make the same mistakes.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_02]: Each time around, because you never backed up to have what I've now learned and still learning is that courage to go.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_02]: No, I'm gonna let some people pass me in the race right now, because I'm gonna look at why I keep stepping at damn same pothole and twist my ankle.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_02]: The same spot.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_02]: Why I keep failing when I try to get that next spot in this relationship or failing in this place to get this product of my craft to the next.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_03]: Would that be the relinquishing of the romcom era and in a small part for you?
- 9:00[SPEAKER_03]: Did you small part?
- 9:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, there's definitely courageous.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_02]: I did, I did.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_02]: Honestly, think I'd written myself a one way ticket out of Hollywood.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_02]: People close to me.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_02]: Basically, almost everybody beside my wife was like, What is your major malfunction, little brother?
- 9:23[SPEAKER_02]: You got it made?
- 9:25[SPEAKER_02]: Why are you throwing a jackknife in this that way?
- 9:29[SPEAKER_02]: You tripping yourself running down hill, man.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_02]: You did it.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I had my wife and myself to remind myself for that 4 a.m.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_02]: Clarity that I had in tears when I was like, no, I'm rollin' the dice.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_02]: I'm stickin' with it.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_02]: And I did think I wrote myself a ticket out of Hollywood.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_02]: I did look at other vocations, become a teacher, a wildlife guide.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_02]: I'm serious, serious with those things.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_02]: But over time, it was about 20 months, it was gone long enough.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_02]: I found out in an emedy enough, it was not in your living room and at the interromcom, you didn't seem on a beach shirt list.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_02]: Where is he?
- 10:11[SPEAKER_02]: Turning down the 14.5 million dollar offer, maybe we'll go, oh shit, what's he up to?
- 10:17[SPEAKER_02]: They don't just, you don't just step out of Hollywood and enter unless you get, you turn that down because you got a plan.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_02]: You got somewhere you want to go.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that made me more attractive.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_02]: There's a new novel idea, but that was, yet that risk took, I think it's fair to say that took a fair amount of courage from me.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_00]: We often see resistance as a form of failure, and something that we should endeavor to avoid, you think about the avoidance of people building families, or even many people consider that we're living in a bit of a comfort crisis.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_00]: This is slightly a different sort of analogy, but most of the diseases that we have today, whether the diseases of, I don't know,
- 10:54[SPEAKER_00]: The mind, like, you know, people feeling lonely and isolated, all physical diseases, age groups that are Americans getting back pain, but no one in the had to try to be an African getting back pain.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_00]: They're all a consequence of us continually choosing comfort.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_00]: Which is a short-term friend, but long-term enemy.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_00]: And the resistance, I think, is something increasingly we can choose, or doubt of.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, and we've outconvenged ourselves.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_02]: What day are I going to do to us?
- 11:20[SPEAKER_02]: Talk about convenience.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_02]: How much, and I want to keep here in studies, I wonder if you have an opinion on this?
- 11:25[SPEAKER_02]: How much of you coming up with an idea?
- 11:29[SPEAKER_02]: And then writing and rewriting it.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_02]: Thinking about it.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_02]: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
- 11:51[SPEAKER_02]: Our gahunch is that we can use it for like signposts to help us.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, that's good.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_02]: We'll help you help me to help me organize.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_02]: But there's a value to us going through the sweat equity of learning something.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, yeah, I mean, through history, people at Richard Fryman, the physicist, said, the best way to learn something is to learn it.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_00]: And then to go through the pain of writing it, condensing it down to a simple truth, like you do so often in your new book poems and prayers, and then sharing it with the world, and then getting the feedback, and if the world understood it like you meant it, like that poem you just shared, you understand it.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_00]: That's evidence that you get it.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_00]: So I think AI is gonna be great for me.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_02]: Saying something to you but not learning something myself and I think if you know if you want to defend creativity and Innovation and the ability to think You actually have a huge opportunity which is to go laugh when everyone's going right well now we're going into I have that I got that thing And they're saying it would what's better take eight take eight big risk in life Sin wants missed the mark once, but get seven achieve seven seven out of eight or take a hundred risk And she made up
- 13:01[SPEAKER_02]: My lunch is that, there's a guy he's saying, go for the hundred and get eight, rather than eight and get seven.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_02]: If you're not taking enough risk to sin or miss the mark, which is what sin means to fail.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_02]: What are you doing?
- 13:18[SPEAKER_02]: Don't go back with even money.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_02]: Come back with a safe bet, which that can become a sort of recessive piece of non-mistate.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_02]: It's almost a, it's I don't think it's what the mystics meant when they were like, be disattached.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_02]: They can be going brace, but for highs and lows and pains and pleasures, understand that those outward things are not the things to be attached to for your own identity.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_02]: You have to be inward first and enjoy those, partake.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_03]: Don't become attached to those for your measure.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_03]: Without complacency, trust the time is on yourself.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_03]: What do you mean, yeah, man?
- 13:58[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to head or behind it, and then get in a rush.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_02]: Look, and I know how to hustle, and let's go.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_02]: The clocks tickin' we're all behind all hands on deck.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_02]: We got a bust ass, no time for pause.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_02]: There's no sleep, no nothing.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_02]: Get the caffeine out.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_02]: Let's go.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes we gotta do that.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_02]: But that is usually because an unforeseen circumstance has happened that there's a crisis we gotta deal with.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_02]: Or we've procrastinated and I'm putting myself in that position where we gotta cram.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_02]: But it's not those two circumstances.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_02]: We're gonna watch yourself getting ahead of time.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_02]: and it's on your side.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_02]: It's a little what I mean about the living longer and living more quality times on our side.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_02]: And we're forced to think and feel, especially today, without vast things move.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_02]: That more productivity, faster pace, more information, faster pace, it's better.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_02]: We're ahead of time a lot.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_02]: It's the John Wooden, but a great basketball coach for UCL, I'd be quick, but don't be in a hurry.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_02]: I was just, no, to the basketball players.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_02]: I'd be quick, but don't be in a hurry.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_02]: You will miss things.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's the Lego set, and you sit there and you get in a rush.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_02]: You don't read the directions.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_02]: You get to the end.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_02]: You've got 12 pieces left.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_02]: You're like, shut.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_02]: Because you've got in a hurry.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_02]: You've got ahead of time, instead of just,
- 15:21[SPEAKER_02]: that feeling of love.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_02]: I've checked out what I need to do and it's all adding up and this thing's built right in the foundation and there's last piece it fits.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I was with time, times on our side.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_02]: It's not an enemy.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_02]: The end, death is not the enemy.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_02]: I do believe that part of you know.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_02]: Mountain Rush to get there, and we can stay if we wanna stay it off sometimes, and that it can be a screaming fight, and partially denial can help us get there.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_02]: I understand that, but still, it's on our side.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_02]: It's gonna happen, and since it's gonna happen, and that's non-negotiable, minus will go.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I'm not gonna rush to try and make more that then there is.
- 16:03[SPEAKER_02]: I wanna try and spend the time I got,
- 16:09[SPEAKER_02]: succeed, achieve, well, whatever those things are.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_02]: But also, at a pace that, I mean that I like the dance, too.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_02]: I like that, given the take, I like the reverb, I like the, the, the, the, the cause and the fact of how things are happening at this pace.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_02]: Like, right now, that doesn't mean times on my side, yeah, dude.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_02]: In chill out.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_02]: When it happens, it'll happen.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_02]: But on your side, now just move with it, dance with it, put some soul with the facts.
