- 0:27Hey, everybody. Good morning from the chicken
- 0:29coop. So today I want to talk to you a
- 0:31little bit about what happens when you get into an argument.
- 0:36Because I think that, you know, it's inevitable if you're a
- 0:39human being, you're going to get in an argument with another
- 0:42person and maybe many people. You're going to argue with
- 0:45yourself about things. You're going to definitely argue
- 0:48with other individuals that are in your family, friends,
- 0:52whatever it might be. There will be arguments that
- 0:54will ensue and when they take place, how you handle it is
- 0:59everything. How you handle yourself in the
- 1:01argument is everything. But really, quite frankly, how
- 1:04you deal with that argument and what that means to you is going
- 1:08to be a huge factor in your healing process and moving
- 1:14forward in it. But it's also just an emotional
- 1:17growth spurt for us as human beings if we can understand our
- 1:22offenses, why it happens and moving forward.
- 1:26So let's just talk about the fact that, OK, let's say you get
- 1:30into an argument with your spouse, your partner.
- 1:34It could be anybody that's pretty close to you.
- 1:36And if you're close with somebody, it is definitely
- 1:40evident that you will get into an argument with that person.
- 1:43Because it's next to impossible to be with a person for a good
- 1:48period of your life and not have a serious argument at some point
- 1:53in time where you are in such a disagreement and you just don't
- 1:57like each other and you, you know, I often will joke around
- 2:02and say, hey, I love my husband beyond words and beyond measure,
- 2:06but there doesn't mean I don't want a throat punch him some
- 2:08days. And it is true.
- 2:10And it is possible to feel two things at the same time, and one
- 2:13of them is anger and one of them is love And how you handle
- 2:18yourself to get past it so that you can move on and truly create
- 2:23something and not take it with you is a major factor in self
- 2:30development and health, mental health.
- 2:33So let's say you have an argument with somebody and you
- 2:37know in your mind you were right because we're always thinking
- 2:40we're right because that's our position.
- 2:42So we are always going to hang on to the fact that we are
- 2:44right. And maybe we are right.
- 2:46Maybe there is a point where we are right, but let's just it
- 2:49doesn't matter. We're not talking right and
- 2:50wrong right this minute. What we're talking about is how
- 2:53you move past it. But in your head, you're still
- 2:56thinking about the right thing. So the very first thing you have
- 2:59to discern is that you don't need to hang on to being right
- 3:04If you're choosing to be happy, OK.
- 3:08And I think that's an important distinction.
- 3:10If you want to be happy with the other person, you have to choose
- 3:14to be happy. Now, I'm assuming in this
- 3:16conversation that you don't want to get rid of the other person,
- 3:19that you do want to stay with the other person.
- 3:21Now this is a completely different story.
- 3:23If you've decided I just don't want to be with this person
- 3:25anymore. I don't want to have this person
- 3:27in my life, whether it be friends, employee, partner,
- 3:30whatever it might be, spouse. If you have made a hard decision
- 3:34that you don't want them there anymore, than the strategies are
- 3:36different. But I'm going to assume for this
- 3:38conversation that you do want to have the person there and that
- 3:42you do want to be happy. So you have to remind yourself
- 3:44first and foremost, my most important thing in my life is to
- 3:48be happy. Because if I'm happy and I'm
- 3:50focused on being happy, then I can heal myself.
- 3:54I can heal the aggravation, I can heal what's going on and I
- 3:58don't have to hang on to it. And as Gandhi said, I refuse to
- 4:01allow others to walk through my mind with their dirty feet,
- 4:04which just basically boils down to meaning, I'm not going to let
- 4:07somebody else and their anger or whatever they did to me stay
- 4:11with me. And that's what we're talking
- 4:13about. You're just not going to allow
- 4:15it to stay with you because it's more important to move on and be
- 4:18happy. So let's assume you, you want to
- 4:20do that and you say, I want to be happy, OK.
- 4:23And then 3 minutes later you're still irritated with it.
- 4:26So what do you do? How do you get past this?
- 4:28And I think I hear this so often that it really is something to
- 4:33be addressed within yourself if this is coming up for you often,
- 4:37if you are finding yourself constantly having these moments
- 4:42where you're just so aggravated and you can't seem to let go of
- 4:46it and move on and let go of it and move on, just truly let go
- 4:49of it and move on. Well, for me, the trick that I
- 4:53find that works the most is to remind myself that I only I am
- 4:59in charge of what goes on in my head, Nobody else.
- 5:02I don't want to let other people be in charge of it, because if I
- 5:05do, then how can I possibly take care of my own mental health and
- 5:10well-being if I'm letting other people come in and make
- 5:12decisions in my head for me? So what stops me from getting
- 5:16hooked and staying hooked? That's the key.
- 5:20Staying hooked doesn't mean I don't get hooked.
- 5:22It just means I don't stay hooked, is just reminding
- 5:25myself, Hey, hold on here. I had to pause because I'm not
- 5:28going to let this keep getting me Now.
- 5:31Will it happen multiple times throughout the course of, you
- 5:35know, the day or the week? If it's if it's something big,
- 5:38sure. But I have to keep reminding
- 5:40myself repeatedly, No, this is not what we said.
- 5:44We said it was important to be happy.
- 5:46We said we were going to move forward.
- 5:48You mended it with the other person and even though you said
- 5:51fine, let's just move on, I was still aggravated.
- 5:54You can't let it stay with you because you made the choice to
- 5:57move forward and you have to stop yourself from looping back
- 6:00to it. Because the next time that
- 6:01person has an offence, the next time that person does something,
- 6:05you're going to be going into this mode of stacking where
- 6:08you're putting multiple things on top of each other.
- 6:11So it's, you know, the proverbial straw that broke the
- 6:14camel's back. We have to avoid that because
- 6:17it's very easy to stack events. And when you're mad about one
- 6:20thing, not really. You're mad about 25 things that
- 6:23you've still been hanging on to and you've never really let them
- 6:26go, which is what this conversation is about.
- 6:30Angry. Yes, you can be angry.
- 6:33Can you hang on to it? No.
- 6:35The longer you hang on to it, the more you suffer because it
- 6:38eats away at you and it chips away at you.
- 6:40So do you have to continuously chip back at it and say, Nope,
- 6:45that's not the way I'm going to be?
- 6:46Nope. That's not what I'm thinking
- 6:47about. Nope.
- 6:48That's not how this is going to go, 100%.
- 6:51And you have to remind yourself over and over and over.
- 6:54This is not who I choose to be. This is not the way I choose to
- 6:58show up. I chose to let it go.
- 7:00I choose happiness and you move on.
- 7:02And then that person or those people.
- 7:04Nobody has any power over you at that point because you'd get to
- 7:07decide what things mean to you. If you want to be angry, be
- 7:11angry. But do it consciously.
- 7:13And I will always tell you that yeah, angry will move you, but
- 7:17happiness will thrill you and happiness will put you in a
- 7:20better place and you'll attract more of the things you really
- 7:22look for. So always look for that place
- 7:25that you can let go, mend the bridges, do what you need to do,
- 7:29especially if you've decided you want to stay in the
- 7:31relationship. So once you bottom line that,
- 7:34then it's all about moving up from there.
- 7:37So I hope this was helpful and I will see you guys tomorrow
- 7:40morning. Have a blessed day everybody.
- 7:42Bye.
