- 4:33and community supporters gathered honor Cottingem's life, lining the four
- 4:40lane in Manchester with bucket trucks side by side in
- 4:46vehicles as a motorcate escorted him to Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
- 4:52The tribute served as a powerful reminder of the respect
- 5:01and admiration many held for the young worker. Social media
- 5:06quickly filled with tributes from friends, teachers, and community members
- 5:10remembering Cottingjam's kindness, personality, and bright future. The staff of
- 5:17the Clay County Area Technology Center ATC, where Cottingjam had
- 5:22studied welding, shared their sorrow over the loss. Quote the
- 5:28staff of Clay County ATC our heartbroken over the loss
- 5:33of one of our former welding students, Bryson Cottingjam unquote.
- 5:39The school wrote in a statement, quote, Bryson was a
- 5:43good kid with the bright future ahead of him. He
- 5:47was part of our ATC family, and he will always
- 5:50hold a place in our hearts. Unquote. Clay County High
- 5:54School teacher Tyler Hensley also reflected on the loss of
- 5:58a student he remembered fondly. Quote, there are no words
- 6:03to match this moment unquote, Hinsley wrote, quote, long after
- 6:08I had him in class, Bryson would show up to
- 6:11my classroom just to check on me. I always told
- 6:15him that he had the most perfect smile. If you
- 6:20knew him, you probably thought the same thing, because he
- 6:24was always smiling. Unquote. Friends described cotting Jim as someone
- 6:31who cared deeply for those around him. Melissa Garrison shared
- 6:36the close bond between Cottagem and her late son, Cashton,
- 6:41who died in a tragic car accident last year when
- 6:45Cashton passed away, we were discussing. Paul Beears Garrison wrote,
- 6:50we had family lined out, but I wanted one friend,
- 6:54the one who never got him in trouble. Carolyn said Bryson.
- 6:59I said, Okay, he's the one. She added that Cottingem
- 7:02reminded her family of Casting more than anyone else. Quote
- 7:08Bryson reminded us of Cashton more than anyone else did. Unquote,
- 7:13she wrote, he was Casht's best friend. Many others remembered
- 7:19cotting Gem for his warm personality and the way he
- 7:23treated people. Friend Brittany Wagers wrote that cotting Gem had
- 7:28become like part of her family. You were always at
- 7:32my house, eating with us, staying the night, laughing, and
- 7:36making yourself part of the family. She wrote, you had
- 7:39such a kind heart and gentle soul. Friends also spoke
- 7:44about the shock of losing someone so young. Quote. To
- 7:49know Bryson was a gift, wrote Carly Cheyenne Shepherd. Quote
- 7:56he was one of a kind. He always had anyone's
- 7:59back if they needed him. For many in the community,
- 8:03the tragedy was difficult to comprehend. We hope to watch
- 8:08our former students grow into the people they're meant to
- 8:12become for many years, Hensley wrote, losing one far too
- 8:16soon is something that is never easy to comprehend. The
- 8:20loss comes just months after the death of Cottingem's close
- 8:24friend Cashton, making the tragedy even more difficult for many
- 8:30in the community to process. While Bryson Cottingem's life ended
- 8:36far too soon, the overwhelming turnout of support from across
- 8:40Clay County showed the lasting mark he left the people
- 8:45who knew him, and his one friend wrote simply and

- 17:52County falls and region opener to Bell County forty six
- 17:57to thirty by Tanner Hospital Enterprise. Sports turnovers in cold
- 18:04shooting spelled doom for Clay County as the Tigers fell
- 18:09forty six to thirty to Bell County in the opening
- 18:12round of the thirteenth Region Tournament. It marks the second
- 18:17straight season Clay County has been eliminated in its first
- 18:21regional game. The contest was often difficult to watch offensively,
- 18:28as neither team could establish a consistent rhythm. Bell County's
- 18:34defensive pressure kept the Tigers out of sync for most
- 18:38of the night. In fact, Clay County went nearly three
- 18:44full quarters without making a two point field goal. The
- 18:48Tigers' first basket inside the ark did not come until
- 18:53Aiden Grubb put back a misshot with eighteen seconds remaining
- 18:58in the third quarter, snapping a long scoring drought that
- 19:02stretched back to the seven to twenty eight mark of
- 19:05the second period. Clay showed some fight in the fourth quarter,
- 19:10outscoring Bell six to three in the opening three minutes
- 19:15to close the gap to thirty four to twenty three.
- 19:19The two teams traded baskets, and Clay got within ten
- 19:24at thirty six to twenty six on a free throw
- 19:27by Grub. The Tigers stepped up their defense intensity, forcing
- 19:33the Bobcats into two straight turnovers. With three p forty
- 19:37nine remaining in the game, Clay had a chance to
- 19:41get the game into single digits. A quick fiul by
- 19:45Bell sent Grub back to the line, where it made
- 19:48both and cut the lead to thirty six to twenty eight.
- 19:54Clay's Brody Hooker made a steal and Grub was sent
- 19:59back to the foul on for two more shots. With
- 20:02two thirty eight remaining, He made both to cut the
- 20:06lead to six at thirty six to thirty. Bells Braxton
- 20:11Ferguson drained a deep three pointer at two o two
- 20:16to make it thirty nine to thirty. A missed three
- 20:20pointer by Jacob Rogers led to a Bobcat basket by
- 20:24Caden Huff to push the lead back to double digits
- 20:28at forty one to thirty. That the Tigers can never
- 20:32get any closer. Bell County took control in the second
- 20:37half by tightening its defense, controlling the offensive glass, and
- 20:42forcing costly turnovers from Clay County. The opening half resembled
- 20:48two heavyweight fighters trading blows. Both teams came out tight,
- 20:53but played with intensity and aggressiveness as they battled for
- 20:56each for early momentum. The three point shot shot kept
- 21:02Clay County within striking distance early. The Tigers connected on
- 21:07four of their first twelve attempts from beyond the art,
- 21:10accounting for nearly all their scoring in the first half.
- 21:14As they failed to make a two point field goal
- 21:17before the break, Bell County jumped out to an early
- 21:21five and zero lead, fueled by two baskets from Ethan Buell.
- 21:26Clay County answered with a three pointer from Wagers, followed
- 21:30moments later by another from Maxton Gray to cut the
- 21:34deficit to seven to six. Freshmen Skuyler Sizemore then added
- 21:40a three pointer of his own as the team's battled
- 21:43to a nine to nine tie at the end of
- 21:45the first quarter. Bell County began to clamp down defensively
- 21:52in the second period. The Tigers managed only four points
- 21:55in the quarter, coming on a three pointer by Gray
- 21:59in a free throw from Wagers. Freshmen Braxton Ferguson provided
- 22:04a spark for the Bobcats in the second quarter, scoring
- 22:07four of bel Connie's twelve points in the period to
- 22:11help push his team ahead twenty to thirteen at halftime.
- 22:16Clay County struggled mightily from the floor in the first half,
- 22:20converting just four of nineteen field goal attempts. The Tigers
- 22:25were out rebounded thirty one to twenty two, with Grub
- 22:29recording ten. He was also the leading scorer with twelve
- 22:34Eiden Ragers nine, Maxton Gray six, in Skyler Sizemore three.

- 22:49Garrison down Home with Melissa. Some articles are simpler, harder
- 22:55to write than others. Sometimes the right words just don't come,
- 23:00and this seems to be one of those times. The
- 23:03first time I remember seeing Bryson Cottingen was at my
- 23:07son's dad's house. I had pulled into the driveway to
- 23:10take cash and some food. Bryson nearly as much as
- 23:15I had heard his name, and my son spent a
- 23:19lot of time together doing the things young boys loved
- 23:24to do. Bryson was never a kid I worried about
- 23:27when he was around Kashton. If anything, Cashton might have
- 23:31been the one with the stronger influence in the friendship.
- 23:37Like many boys their age, they lived life to give
- 23:44the kind of strong, heartfelt hug that you wouldn't soon forget.
- 23:49Christians Severe once told me how much Bryson loved Easton.
- 23:55She said Bryson was one of the few friends who
- 23:58came to the hospital in Easton was born. He would
- 24:01make random visits to their home and always talked about
- 24:04how he couldn't wait until Easton got big enough to
- 24:07start writing. I imagine Bryson would have had plenty of
- 24:13tricks to teach him, especially when it came to dirt bikes.
- 24:17Bryson was a master writer. Bryson was his family's whole world.
- 24:22Losing him will forever mark a day they will never forget.
- 24:27I've learned that memories are what we have to hold
- 24:30on to the dash between sunrise and sunset. What we
- 24:35do with our days from morning until night become what
- 24:38we leave behind to others for others to remember. What
- 24:43I remember about Bryson is that he was a handsome
- 24:47young man. He was fun. He loved my boy, and
- 24:51he loved his friends and family. Most of all, he
- 24:55loved life. I laughed at stories Kaylin told me about
- 25:00rod Run last year when they all went together, cash
- 25:04And made Bryson eat habachi at a place they looked
- 25:09that thought looked questionable. Bryson complained that it was way
- 25:16too expensive, and Cashton said it was terrible and ended
- 25:19up dumping his takeout food in the parking lot. That
- 25:23wasn't all they did, but I'll leave the rest of
- 25:26those stories untoned. What matters is they had fun and
- 25:30they made memories. Bryson was only nineteen years old when
- 25:35he lost his life on the job. It started out
- 25:38as a normal day. Caital and I had met for
- 25:41much for lunch around eleven thirty. Our first reaction was disbelief.
- 25:46No way, We said, there's no way that's true, and
- 25:52Bryson happened to be there. I can't remember exactly what
- 25:59they were doing, either working on a truck or getting
- 26:02ready to go writing, but I do remember casting being
- 26:04in a hurry, which unusually meant something fun was about
- 26:09to happen. Due to restraints, I have to end this article.
- 26:16I finished it. It was a midday when Bryce has
- 26:19left us this world. The sun deam to set differently
- 26:23that March day it went down with Bryce and looking
- 26:26at us now from a different view, from the very
- 26:30same sky. He would have turned twenty in about a month.
