- 0:08Speaker 1: Now we turn to Country Weekly. We'll be reading from
- 0:12country news sources found online. Your host today only Today
- 0:19is Anne Glover. As a reminder, RADIOI is a reading
- 0:23service intended for people who are blind or have other
- 0:25disabilities that make it difficult to read printed material. We
- 0:31are reading first from the Boot, our first article. Tim
- 0:38McGraw announces a new album with Hey Whiskey. Tim McGraw
- 0:45has a candid conversation with his favorite liquor in his
- 0:49new song Hey Whiskey. Here, McGraw personifies his favorite glass
- 0:54of whiskey as he chronicles the unwavering companionship. Listeners first
- 1:01get introduced to the mean spirited whisky in the opening
- 1:06verse as McGraw recounts how it's accompanied him through life's milestones,
- 1:12trying moments, and heartbreaks. All I ever did was give
- 1:18you my attention every night Friday night since I turned
- 1:22twenty two. I trusted you with my naive intentions. Hey Whiskey,
- 1:28What I ever do to you? I gave you every
- 1:32penny in my pocket. You help me lie and made
- 1:35me tell the truth, stayed out with you all night
- 1:38when you came a calling. Hey Whiskey, What I ever
- 1:42do to you, McGraw ponders helplessly in the first verse.
- 1:48The core of Hey Whiskey, however, finds McGraw ruminating on
- 1:54how Whiskeys betrayed him. It's a hard pill to swallow,
- 1:59especially after spending the bulk of his life with numerous glasses,
- 2:05only to be kicked to the curb by it. I
- 2:08let you stay, you made or leave. You made me
- 2:12say things I don't mean to the only girl that
- 2:15ever made me choose. I gave you everything I had,
- 2:19went to hell and can't get back the only thing
- 2:23I couldn't stand to lose. Hey Whiskey, Hey Whiskey, What
- 2:28I ever do to you? He muses, with disappointment coursing
- 2:33through his delivery. Hey Whiskey is the latest preview of
- 2:38McGraw's forthcoming new album, Standing Room Only, Do out in
- 2:42August the twenty fifth. The thirteen songs set includes its
- 2:48title track, which is currently number seventeen and rising on
- 2:52the media Base Country chart. Of his upcoming record, McGrath shares,
- 2:58as an artist, I'll always want to dig deeper and
- 3:01get better every time I make a new record. Is
- 3:05a big part of what drives me, and I really
- 3:07believe this is one of the best projects we've made.
- 3:11I've been working on this album since twenty twenty, and
- 3:14this collection of songs are some of the most emotional,
- 3:18thought provoking, and life affirming music I've ever recorded. I'm
- 3:23excited to have Hay Whiskey out so fans can start
- 3:27hearing more of what we've been working on and maybe
- 3:30even more in August. He adds. Exclusive album packages of
- 3:36Standing Room Only are available for pre order now at
- 3:40mc rath's merchandise store. And that is the end of
- 3:44the article. Our next story, Dirk Bentley and Jason Aldean
- 3:51are arguing over who would open for whom. Jason Aldean
- 3:58and Dirk's Bentley toured together way back in two thousand
- 4:02and five, and both country superstars agreed that it might
- 4:06be time to get the band back together, so to speak,
- 4:09for another round. But there's one hiccup, who would open
- 4:15for who at this iconic show. Bentley was a guest
- 4:20on Taste of Country Knights recently and I asked him
- 4:23if he would consider playing some shows with Aldine now
- 4:26that they are both top top headliners, because we're approaching
- 4:30twenty years since they did. The star was quick to
- 4:35say not only would he love to do that, he
- 4:38would volunteer to open for Aldane if that's what would
- 4:42it would take to make it happen. A week later,
- 4:45Aldine popped by a taste of Country Knight's studio and
- 4:49we told him what Bentley had said. I'm down, man,
- 4:52I'm always down to play shows and hang out with friends,
- 4:55Aldine says in response. Dear set it up as for
- 5:00who should open the show, essentially a debate of who's
- 5:04the bigger star. Aldine is indifferent. I don't care. I'll
- 5:09play whatever. He says. Let's get a show and figure
- 5:13it out. So it sounds like neither of them wants
- 5:17to claim being the quote bigger star. We picture them
- 5:21backstage pickering over who wants to do the other a solid.
- 5:26Aldine even doubled down on how much he loves his buddy, saying, hey,
- 5:30I love Dirk. One of the first tours I ever did,
- 5:34Dirk's was the headliner, and Miranda Lambert and I were
- 5:37each opening, and we would kind of flip flop opening
- 5:40each night. It was fun. We were all kind of
- 5:43new to the game, even Dirk's, even though he was headlining,
- 5:46he was new to that whole thing. The whiskey drunk
- 5:50singer recalled, it was just fun a bunch of young
- 5:53uns trying to figure out the business. I even offered
- 5:58up a location for the concert, Aldeane's one hundred and
- 6:01fifty acre a state in Tennessee, which Aldean laughed off
- 6:05and quipped, let's do it on your property. Although that
- 6:09would be sweet, the logistics would be a bit harder
- 6:12maneuvering around a zero point two acre backyard compared to
- 6:17one hundred and fifty acre. One nice try, Jason. Once
- 6:21the two headliners figure out who will open for who.
- 6:24Since they both offered, we can't present the idea to
- 6:27Lambert and hopefully get her on board. Maybe she wants
- 6:31to headline. Moving over to Taste of Country, we are
- 6:38reading about Blake Shelton. Blake Shelton is a farmer, but
- 6:42don't ask him to grow flowers stories by Evan Paul,
- 6:46published May fifteenth. Blake Shelton is a lot of things,
- 6:51but he's not a great flower farmer. In a chat
- 6:54with CMT recently, the star was asked to share something
- 6:58his fans might not know about him after his decades
- 7:02in the spotlight. Shelton is honest about his shortcomings on
- 7:05the farm. This especially is a struggle for him. I
- 7:10think fans would be surprised to know that I am
- 7:12a struggling flower gardener. Struggling, he admits. It's something that
- 7:18Gwen and I do together. But you know, if I'm
- 7:21going to plant flowers, I want to do like ten
- 7:24acres of flowers so I can use my equipment. My
- 7:27tractors really tear some crap up. Gwen Stefani's husband continues,
- 7:33so far not so good. Shelton, his wife, and her
- 7:38three sons have property in Oklahoma where he can quote
- 7:42tear some stuff up regularly. Shelton regularly shares updates from
- 7:47his tractor as he's writing around his property tending to
- 7:50his crops. When he's not there, he's in the studio.
- 7:54The country star just released his first new album in
- 7:58four years for recreational use only, and that was released
- 8:04May ninth. He credits post Malone with inspiring it to
- 8:08get inspiring him to get out there and make a
- 8:10new record. Find the Texas and Singer on Network Television
- 8:17on May twenty first, when he returns to the Voice
- 8:21for the season twenty five FINALI episode When we have
- 8:26the story. Also about Blake Shelton. Top ten Blake Shelton Songs,
- 8:31his greatest hits and best deep cuts. Taste of Country
- 8:36staff opinion. The commercial success of tracks from Shelton's twelve
- 8:40studio albums were certainly considered in making this list of
- 8:44the top ten Blake Blake Shelton songs. More than anything,
- 8:50we sought fan input via sales and direct input. What's
- 8:54your favorite Blake Shelton song and does it agree with
- 8:58our number? One? Below are The Voice Coach's fifty best songs.
- 9:05Lyrical integrity and production were also considered in this ranking.
- 9:09It's really hard to argue against any of the top five,
- 9:12but we understand if there's debate about placement. Heck, we
- 9:17encourage it, and I'm going to read maybe the top
- 9:23five number fifty. She's Got Away with Words. Songwriters Andy Albert,
- 9:30Mark Beeson and widerp wrote a clever country lyric, but
- 9:35the problem is it felt too personal from Blake Shelton.
- 9:39In twenty sixteen, this is the song that stopped Shelton's
- 9:43impressive streak of number one singles. Sonically, very few songs
- 9:49from this era stand apart from one another number forty nine.
- 9:55I'm going to read the lowest five and the top
- 9:59five number forty nine. Gunna Gunna isn't a bad song.
- 10:03A strong case can be made that it's better than
- 10:06some of the singles ranked ahead of it on this
- 10:08list of the top fifty Blake Shelton songs. Actually, the
- 10:12love Story from twenty fourteen just isn't memorable. Think about
- 10:17it at best, you said I remember that song, but
- 10:20more likely thought which one is that? And then I'm
- 10:24gonna skip to the top five. Number five Who Are
- 10:32You when I'm Not Looking? Joe Nichols cut this song
- 10:35several years before Shelton would make it his best love song.
- 10:39Both versions are exemplary. It starts with the songwriting lyrically.
- 10:45Who Are You when I'm Not Looking? Is more sensitive
- 10:48and poetic than anything else on this list. Each line
- 10:55is phrased as a question, and each question is one
- 10:59any women can relate to. The magic is in this
- 11:03hit maker's personal delivery. His range isn't needed for a
- 11:07subtle romancer that the greats would be proud of. Few
- 11:11country women will resist a warm smile when this number
- 11:16one hit returns begins. Number four God's Country, God's country
- 11:23rejuvenated Blake Shelton's career. The country rock song paints a
- 11:28vivid picture credit songwriters Hardy Devan Dawson and Jordan Schmidt,
- 11:35but it works so well because everyone who touched the
- 11:39song went for it one hundred percent. The chart topping
- 11:44hit is arguably his best of the last half decade
- 11:48and an easy pick for top ten on this list
- 11:51of his greatest songs, Number three, She Wouldn't Be Gone.
- 11:58There's no song in Blake Shelton's cat log that paints
- 12:01a heartbreaking picture with the same ease of She Wouldn't
- 12:05Be Gone, his number one song from two thousand and eight.
- 12:09He begins with Roadside Red Flower, If I'd only picked you,
- 12:15took you home, set You on the counter before his
- 12:18second meetered Stanza that goes yellow sunset, slowly dipping down
- 12:25in the rear view. Oh, how she'd love to sit
- 12:28and watch you. I couldn't have done that a whole
- 12:31lot more. I could have done that a whole lot more.
- 12:35The chorus of this song is where the tension lies. However,
- 12:39Shelton has told great stories before and delivered strong vocal
- 12:43performances plenty of times, but few songs find him so
- 12:49recklessly emotional as this ballad, it's almost unnerving to listen to.
- 12:57Number two, Mine Would Be You is a top five
- 13:02Blake Shelton song because of the twist at the end
- 13:06that just crushes your heart. It's a love song until
- 13:10suddenly it didn't. Jesse Alexander and Company wrote it, but
- 13:15it's the singer's energy that makes the song special. As
- 13:19with she Wouldn't Be Gone, there's a sense of panic
- 13:23so rare on the radio today. Shelton seems like such
- 13:27a cool character most of the time, but moments like
- 13:31this remind us of his gifts and number one Austin
- 13:39fans have and will continue to make a case for
- 13:42Austin as Blake Shelton's best song. It's certainly an all
- 13:46time great debut single, one that would work in any
- 13:50era of country music. Early in his career, the Oklahoma
- 13:55native relied on veteran songwriters and producers like Bobby Rat
- 14:00to shape the sound. These days, everything comes with a
- 14:04little more polish, which is fine and probably even necessary.
- 14:09You can't compare twenty year old tracks like Austin with
- 14:13modern songs like I'll Name the Dogs. Lyrically his newest
- 14:18material lacks depth when held up against the rich tapestry
- 14:23of the early hits. So many songs from Shelton's first
- 14:27two albums make the top ten or even the top
- 14:30twenty of this list for this reason. Austin at number one.
- 14:37It's tempting to select another for the sake of being bold,
- 14:42that doing so would be just dishonest, and that's the
- 14:46end of that list. Also from Taste of Country, Jason
- 14:53Aldeen isn't thrilled about his wife's expensive hobby do you
- 14:59really need that Jaso. Aldine and his wife Brittany mostly
- 15:04see eyda eye on money. They both like to travel,
- 15:08especially to tropical destinations, and they share a passion for
- 15:12acquiring real estate. But Brittany says she's got one extravagant
- 15:17hobby that sometimes yields some pushback from her superstar husband.
- 15:22There's an occasional do you really need that car, the
- 15:27singer's wife admits during a recent round of fan Q
- 15:30and A on her Instagram stories. Brittany says she's not
- 15:37buying cars just for the sake of buying them. Collecting
- 15:40cool vehicles is her personal hobby. When she and Aldine
- 15:46come out for a drive together. She's almost always in
- 15:49the driver's seat. She gets carsick when she's not behind
- 15:52the wheel, so the family gets a lot of use
- 15:55out of her car collection too. It's not totally clear
- 16:00how many or what kind of cars Brittany owns, but
- 16:03based on her wish list for the future, it seems
- 16:07like she's got a flare for old school luxury. In
- 16:10another slide, she says her dream car would be a
- 16:13vintage Bronco or Defender. Jason says, I won't be happy
- 16:20with one, but I'm still thinking about it, she adds.
- 16:25A singer's wife also points out that she's smart about
- 16:27where my money goes and that she's worked hard to
- 16:31be financially independent in order to afford an expensive hobby
- 16:35like car collecting. I haven't stopped working since I was fifteen,
- 16:39so I don't ask for anything more than anyone else,
- 16:42she says. On top of that, she says that as
- 16:46she ages, her taste in other luxury items is dwindling
- 16:50and she's finding appreciation for the simple stuff. Honestly, the
- 16:54older I get, the more I want to travel, to
- 16:57be with my little fam own and animals, and live
- 17:01a country life. Brittany goes on to say it's no
- 17:05wonder that all Bean is sometimes skeptical about his wife's
- 17:08car habit. He doesn't seem to share her passion for
- 17:11this particular form of extravagance. Last year, he told Taste
- 17:15of Country that he does that he does own a
- 17:18ferrari as his little fun car, but he mostly alternates
- 17:23between that and one other daily driver, his truck. And
- 17:28that's the end of that story. Our next story. Reba
- 17:33McIntyre admits that she was dreading coaching The Voice at first.
- 17:39Reba McIntyre just re upped her coaching gig on The
- 17:42Voice her whole new season. In an interview on Late
- 17:46Night with Seth Myers, she says she can't wait to
- 17:49be back on set, but that's a completely different point
- 17:53of view than she had when she signed on to
- 17:55do her first season with the show. I was really
- 17:59dreading it first, the singer admits, because I don't want
- 18:03to tell anybody they suck. McIntyre talked about that in
- 18:08the past. In twenty twenty, she said that a show
- 18:12runner that Showrunners offered her the coaching job for the
- 18:16show's very first season Back in twenty eleven, at that time,
- 18:21she said no for the same reason she didn't want
- 18:24to cush contestant crush contestant's dreams of making it in music. Instead,
- 18:31that role went to Blake Shelton, who remained a coach
- 18:34on the show for an impressive twelve consecutive years. During
- 18:39that twenty twenty interview, McIntyre said she had some regrets
- 18:43about turning it down. After you see a very successful show,
- 18:47you're like, shoot, I should have done that, she continued,
- 18:52But McIntyre got a second chance when Shelton stepped down
- 18:56in twenty twenty twenty three. She served as a coach
- 19:00for three consecutive seasons, took a break for one, and
- 19:05is now returning for season twenty eight. Now, the singer
- 19:08says that the part of the show she worried about
- 19:11sending talented singers home isn't as bad as she thought
- 19:15it would be. The way we did it the first
- 19:19time I was on the Boys, it was more helpful
- 19:22and encouraging, McIntyre continues, And the coaches that are coming
- 19:26back now, Snoop Michael and myself, myself and Neil Niall,
- 19:34we're nice people. We encourage, we lift up. Season twenty
- 19:38eight of The Voice is set to premiere this fallen NBC.
- 19:41It'll run concurrently with the second season of McIntyre's situation
- 19:46comedy Happy's Place, which features some of the original cast
- 19:51and crew of her two thousands show rebook. The singer's boyfriend,
- 19:57actor Rex Lynn also plays a character on the show.
- 20:01And that's the end of the story. And there's no
- 20:05shortage of collaborations between men and women, women and women,
- 20:09or two men. We cut it down to oh, I
- 20:13think all right. The last sentence was Rex Lynn also
- 20:20plays character on that show. Taylor Sheridan reunites with nineteen
- 20:27twenty three star Brandon Skleener for a new project, The
- 20:32Stories by Sterling Whittaker. It was published May fourteenth of
- 20:36twenty twenty five. Taylor Sheridan has wrapped the second and
- 20:41final season of his smash hit Yellowstone prequel nineteen twenty
- 20:46three with the acclaimed writer and director, who is not
- 20:51done working with one of the stars of the show,
- 20:54Brandon Sqleeener. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sheridan has struck
- 20:59a deal with Warner Brothers Discovery for a film titled
- 21:03Fast f Period, a period s period t which includes
- 21:09Scleener as its star and nineteen twenty three director and
- 21:12cinematographer Ben Richardson as director. Scleener played the role of
- 21:19Spencer Dutton in nineteen twenty three, and he also appeared
- 21:22in one of twenty twenty four's most high profile films,
- 21:26It Ends with Us. The package deal for Fast also
- 21:32includes David Hayman and Jeffrey Clifford of Heyday Films as producers.
- 21:38Sheridan and Jenny Wood of Bosque Ranch Productions are in
- 21:42negotiations to also serve as producers of the film, which
- 21:46Sheridan wrote in the twenty tens, prior to the mess
- 21:50of success of Yellowstone that launched him to become one
- 21:54of the most prolific and powerful showrunners on television. He's
- 21:59best known as a feature film writer, this time at
- 22:02the time with Cecario and Hell or High Water both
- 22:07under his belt. The premise of Fast sounds like it
- 22:11draws on some of the same things as Cecario. The
- 22:15movie follows a former Special Forces operator who the DEA
- 22:20taps to lead a black op strike team against a
- 22:24group of drug dealers who are under the protection of
- 22:28the CIA. Warners picked the film up in twenty eighteen,
- 22:33with Sheridan hoping to direct and Chris Pratt in talks
- 22:37to Starr. The studio changed its mind when COVID came
- 22:41along and disrupted the entire film industry, and the film
- 22:45got lost in a no man's land between the older
- 22:48model of theatrical release and the newer streaming model that
- 22:53took hold even more during the pandemic. In the years since,
- 22:57Sheridan has become one of the most bank writer director
- 23:01producers on TV, with a string of hit shows that
- 23:06includes not only Yellowstone and its various spin offs, but
- 23:10also Landman, Lioness Tulsa, King Mayor of Kingston and Moore.
- 23:17According to sources familiar with the negotiations, Sheridan is under
- 23:22strict contract to Paramount Plus and negotiations to allow him
- 23:26to work outside of that contract were tricky. Some aspects
- 23:30of the negotiations are still underwear, and Paramount has to
- 23:34grant Sheridan a carve out from his deal so he
- 23:37can serve as producer on Fast. So far, there are
- 23:42no further details about the cast of Fast, and it's
- 23:45not clear when the film is slated to go into production.
- 23:49Warners has set a theatrical release date of April of
- 23:53twenty twenty seven. That's the end of the story. THEO
- 23:58Vaughn throat grabbed fan and everyone had the same response.
- 24:04Podcast host and comedian Theovonn was caught on camera grabbing
- 24:08a man by the throat and pushing him away to
- 24:11the naked eye. It looked like an unprovoked attack, but
- 24:15the response on social media hasn't been sympathetic to the
- 24:18singer who approached Vaughn. Stranger Sorry, stranger who approached Vonn.
- 24:24TMZ shared video and details about what happened at a
- 24:28Nashville bar called the twelve thirty Club on May second.
- 24:33Police were involved, although no charges to have been pressed.
- 24:38Theovonn hosts a podcast called This Past Weekend. He was
- 24:43in Nashville for a stand up comedy show Across the
- 24:46Street and the identity of the man with the balloons
- 24:50is unknown. In the video, the man and an unidentified
- 24:55companion are seen holding balloons. They approached Theovonn, who quickly
- 24:59ca turns and seems to reprimand them. The comic then
- 25:03puts his hand on the man's neck and pushes him
- 25:06away before saying something more. If the situation escalated beyond
- 25:11that it didn't make it to the video. In the
- 25:15comments section on TikTok, viewers are overwhelmingly supportive of THEO Vaughn.
- 25:21THEO is super nice, says Tony Ramirez. Whatever that guy
- 25:25did to get THEO? That mad team THEO on this one?
- 25:30Why was the guy all in his personal space? Asks
- 25:34another Looks like this guy was annoying him before the
- 25:38videos started too. I don't blame THEO, says a user
- 25:42named Brett. Others found humor in the interaction with someone
- 25:47who calls themselves Refrigerator, saying everybody forgot He's a white
- 25:53boy from Louisiana with a mullet. He knows how to fight.
- 25:58One or two people picked team STRs, but several others
- 26:02point out that the mere presence of a recording device
- 26:05was an indication that the couple were planning a stunt.
- 26:09T m Z adds that a source told them the
- 26:12stranger was with a group who were harassing THEO. They
- 26:16allegedly used threatening language to provoke him. Police in Nashville
- 26:21admit they responded to a complaint on May fourth, but
- 26:25that no action is going to be taken and that's
- 26:28the end of the story. And then there's a story
- 26:32here about famous country feuds, and will read as much
- 26:36of that as we can. A few of these famous
- 26:39country music feuds were settled peacefully. The rest there are
- 26:43more than a hindful of artists who just won't talk
- 26:46to each other. Charlie Rich versus John Denver. This feud
- 26:51can be summarized in one ugly televised event, when Rich
- 26:55burned the card that announced John Denver as the CMIA
- 26:59and Entertainer of the Year in nineteen seventy five. It's
- 27:03easy to believe Rich was protesting, perhaps believing that Denver
- 27:08was too pomp to join a top country award. His
- 27:11son later explained that the jokester was just drunk. However,
- 27:16more or less cost Rich's career. It's not clear if
- 27:20he and Denver ever set things right. Johnny Cash versus
- 27:25The Grand Old Opry. Johnny Cash is one of the
- 27:28very few artists to be banned from the Grand Old Opry.
- 27:32He earned his banishment after smashing the floor lights out
- 27:35with a microphone in nineteen sixty five. Thankfully, the two
- 27:40sides made up before Cash died. Tim McGraw versus Curb records.
- 27:46Tim McGraw's battle with Curb was especially nasty. Curb sued
- 27:50the singer in twenty eleven, claiming to reach a contract.
- 27:54He counter sued to get out of the contract, which
- 27:57he claimed was slanted and unaffair. In thirteen, McGraw prevailed
- 28:01when a judge threw out the last of Kerb's arguments,
- 28:05and he has gone on to a very successful career
- 28:08with Big Machine. And this concludes the reading of Country
- 28:14Weekly for this week. If you have comments or suggestions
