- 0:52SPEAKER_04: Yeah, in a few days, it's my birthday.
- 0:53SPEAKER_04: Two days.
- 0:55SPEAKER_04: On the the forced.
- 0:57SPEAKER_03: She's gonna have her quarter life crisis.
- 1:00SPEAKER_03: Oh, I already done bin there.
- 1:02SPEAKER_04: Okay, well, you had it too early.
- 1:04SPEAKER_04: We've been over this.
- 1:05SPEAKER_04: Well, listen, quarter implies an actual quarter of my life, and you are insane if you think I'm gonna make it to 100.
- 1:12SPEAKER_04: Like, with my knees.
- 1:15SPEAKER_04: Bitch, you think you're talking to?
- 1:19SPEAKER_04: With my knees.
- 1:20SPEAKER_04: I'm honestly gonna trip it break my neck if nothing else.
- 1:24SPEAKER_02: Oh Jesus.
- 1:27SPEAKER_04: Well, on that on that incredibly positive note, I'm turning 25.
- 1:32SPEAKER_04: And I am um, it's been real, guys.
- 1:36SPEAKER_04: It's been fun, but I am ancient, I'm decrepit.
- 1:41SPEAKER_04: So listen.
- 1:45SPEAKER_04: Okay, listen, I might be actually like physically younger than Taylor and Travis, and maybe some of you listening, but like spiritually.
- 1:56SPEAKER_04: I'm I'm ancient, I'm fucking exhausted.
- 1:59SPEAKER_04: Spiritually, I'm a 45-year-old mother of three.
- 2:04SPEAKER_03: Instead of a 25-year-old mother of three animals.
- 2:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 2:08SPEAKER_03: Except you're not yet 25.
- 2:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 2:10SPEAKER_04: I mean close enough, right?
- 2:12SPEAKER_04: But almost.
- 2:12SPEAKER_03: Well, so what'd you get me for my birthday?
- 2:15SPEAKER_03: Um, I got you the gift of you didn't have to do research, and I did research this week.
- 2:20SPEAKER_03: That is extremely valid, thank you.
- 2:24SPEAKER_03: You're welcome.
- 2:24SPEAKER_03: Um, I I also got you other gifts, but you're not allowed to have them until your birthday.
- 2:28SPEAKER_03: Oh, okay.
- 2:28SPEAKER_04: This is true.
- 2:29SPEAKER_02: I know what they are though.
- 2:31SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 2:31SPEAKER_04: Oh, you bitch.
- 2:32SPEAKER_02: Well, I at least know one of them.
- 2:33SPEAKER_04: You know, that's kind of what that's probably a little bit of recompense for what I get for knowing about, you know, the whole proposal situation.
- 2:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and like before you did.
- 2:45SPEAKER_04: That's true.
- 2:45SPEAKER_04: And and just like carrying that secret in every conversation I had with you where I was just like, he he.
- 2:52SPEAKER_04: I know something you don't.
- 2:56SPEAKER_02: Uh so that's Lou and Little Gremlin.
- 2:59SPEAKER_03: I know something that well, actually, first of all, that was a beautiful gremlin.
- 3:02SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's all that's just what like your internal monologue sounds like.
- 3:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's just what my Yeah.
- 3:10SPEAKER_04: That's actually just what I sound like.
- 3:12SPEAKER_04: This that I do for the podcast is purely an affectation.
- 3:15SPEAKER_04: Uh, yes, of course.
- 3:16SPEAKER_04: Right, right, right, right, right.
- 3:17SPEAKER_04: Anyway.
- 3:18SPEAKER_04: What else what else did you get me?
- 3:20SPEAKER_04: Um, well, I know something.
- 3:23SPEAKER_03: Oh, shit.
- 3:24SPEAKER_03: Which is uh what we're talking about today.
- 3:27SPEAKER_03: What are we talking about today?
- 3:28SPEAKER_04: Because if it's not dragons, I probably don't know what it is.
- 3:31SPEAKER_03: So correct.
- 3:32SPEAKER_03: Um, we're gonna round out our genie arc today with some ginasi.
- 3:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 3:39SPEAKER_04: Which we haven't done an episode on, despite what I seem to have thought.
- 3:44SPEAKER_04: We didn't do an episode on Janasi, right?
- 3:47SPEAKER_04: No.
- 3:47SPEAKER_04: No.
- 3:47SPEAKER_04: Just Osamar, yeah, and okay Tieflings.
- 3:51SPEAKER_04: Tieflings, Johnny Ken.
- 3:52SPEAKER_04: Elementals, and genies.
- 3:55SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 3:55SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 3:55SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 3:56SPEAKER_03: Like I I can see that the the sh the streams might have got crossed or what have you.
- 4:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 4:03SPEAKER_02: They some of them tend to overlap a little bit.
- 4:06SPEAKER_03: So like And I really like the plain touch phrases.
- 4:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 4:10SPEAKER_04: And I really am waiting for this one time that we accidentally do a repeat.
- 4:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 4:16unknown: Yeah.
- 4:16SPEAKER_02: And then someone's like, hey, wait a minute.
- 4:20SPEAKER_03: So um Janasi, like the Awesome R were introduced in the Planescape campaign setting for second edition.
- 4:26SPEAKER_03: Ah, Planescape.
- 4:27SPEAKER_03: The idea was to create a type of plain touched being from every plane, basically.
- 4:33SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 4:34SPEAKER_03: So you already got your upper your upper and lower planes, now let's get the inner planes.
- 4:38SPEAKER_03: Right, yeah.
- 4:39SPEAKER_04: Enter genasi.
- 4:40SPEAKER_04: Why broaden the uh scape of everything, if you will.
- 4:44SPEAKER_04: That's not the right word.
- 4:46SPEAKER_04: Listen, I tried my best, okay.
- 4:48SPEAKER_03: They were first introduced as being the descendants of a union between human and elemental, typically genies, and quote, extremely rare.
- 4:57SPEAKER_03: They inspire more distrust and prejudice and hold all other races with more contempt and regard them with an air of superiority that doesn't exactly make for good allies.
- 5:07SPEAKER_04: Wouldn't they only have that attitude if they're an air genasi?
- 5:14SPEAKER_04: Alison, it's my birthday.
- 5:16SPEAKER_04: I can do whatever I want.
- 5:17SPEAKER_04: I can say whatever I want with no consequence.
- 5:20SPEAKER_04: But I don't think that's true.
- 5:22SPEAKER_04: No! I can make any stupid puns I want with no consequence.
- 5:26SPEAKER_04: Maybe.
- 5:27SPEAKER_03: Maybe that one.
- 5:28SPEAKER_03: Umasi are said to hate all other genasi, so they uh don't actually like anyone, apparently.
- 5:34SPEAKER_04: Honestly fucking valid.
- 5:36SPEAKER_04: Um wait, as in okay, as in like other like okay.
- 5:43SPEAKER_03: No, all other genasibles.
- 5:45SPEAKER_04: Okay, so it's not like fire ginasi only hang with fire genasi.
- 5:48SPEAKER_03: That is what a lot of uh prime people think, but it's that they hate everyone.
- 5:55SPEAKER_04: Okay, your your like little quote gesture that you did along with saying prime people made me feel really attacked.
- 6:05SPEAKER_04: Right?
- 6:06SPEAKER_04: Like I was like, dang, I really just said something microaggressive just like laser.
- 6:12SPEAKER_04: Um okay, I was just I mean, I was just clarifying.
- 6:16SPEAKER_03: No, no, and that's actually as a as a prime person.
- 6:20SPEAKER_03: Like that that was like almost a direct quote from the planewalker's handbook.
- 6:24SPEAKER_03: So it's totally fine.
- 6:26SPEAKER_03: That's hysterical if though they use that verbiage.
- 6:29SPEAKER_04: That's funny about that.
- 6:30SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 6:31SPEAKER_03: The Planewalkers Handbook describes them as being evident elemental nature, displaying physical characteristics like hair or skin as being a certain color.
- 6:40SPEAKER_03: Their personalities are also indicative of their heritage, to the point where some are often visual caricatures of their ancestors.
- 6:48SPEAKER_03: For example, uh or sorry, not visual, virtual caricatures of their ancestors.
- 6:54SPEAKER_03: Uh, for example, fire genasi are hot tempered, and earth genasi are slow and methodical.
- 6:59SPEAKER_04: Huh.
- 7:00SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 7:02SPEAKER_04: Fair enough.
- 7:03SPEAKER_04: I I feel like that, at the very least, like visually and also kind of like personality-wise, I feel like encompasses kind of even a lot of what you see of Janasi, like today.
- 7:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 7:16SPEAKER_03: No, you're you're not wrong.
- 7:17SPEAKER_03: Um, like Osamar and Tieflings, a Janasi's exact heritage is often unknown.
- 7:23SPEAKER_03: And elementals are usually too proud to accept their descendants and won't even admit parentage of a again, quote, half breed.
- 7:32SPEAKER_03: Oh.
- 7:33SPEAKER_04: Which is not a great Oh, that sucks.
- 7:37SPEAKER_02: That's you know that kind of hits like mud blood does.
- 7:42SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 7:43SPEAKER_04: And it just it man.
- 7:45SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 7:46SPEAKER_04: That kind of that sucks.
- 7:48SPEAKER_04: That that that do that do hit somewhere.
- 7:51SPEAKER_04: Uh you know, the common denominator in all of this is that all of these like celestials and infernals and elementals just don't want to admit that they had sex with a person.
- 8:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, you're not wrong.
- 8:02SPEAKER_04: Which, you know, honestly valid.
- 8:04SPEAKER_04: Like we suck.
- 8:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah, like humans suck.
- 8:07SPEAKER_04: Um I wouldn't never mind.
- 8:09SPEAKER_03: Never mind.
- 8:10SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 8:11SPEAKER_03: Uh I'll give some of the fun second edition descriptions of each elemental later.
- 8:16SPEAKER_03: But now let's continue on the overall race in third edition.
- 8:20SPEAKER_03: In third edition, each of the ginasi is more individualized by their parentage.
- 8:24SPEAKER_03: The way the uh monstrous compendium, monsters of Feyruin, puts it is quite pretty, actually.
- 8:30SPEAKER_03: Uh, the whisper of a breeze, the crackle of flame, the crest of a wave, the immovability of stone, these things are as much a part of the genasi as flesh and blood.
- 8:39SPEAKER_03: The genasi are plain-touched beings descended from a union of human and an elemental creature, such as a genie.
- 8:45SPEAKER_03: Though they vary widely, one thing that almost all Janasi have in common is an arrogant nature that makes them disliked by most other races.
- 8:52SPEAKER_04: Oh well, see that was beautiful.
- 8:55SPEAKER_04: Until an arrogant nature that makes them disliked by most other races.
- 8:59SPEAKER_02: So they're just arrogant assholes.
- 9:01SPEAKER_02: Pretty much.
- 9:02SPEAKER_03: Um, all Janasi's favorite class in third edition is Fighter, and all Janasi clerics have access to their own elemental domain as well as one of their as well as one of their domain of choice.
- 9:15SPEAKER_03: Third edition makes Janasi more common as well.
- 9:18SPEAKER_03: Much more common, describing Elemental's voyage to the prime plane, often resulting in half planar and plate touch children.
- 9:26SPEAKER_03: Often!
- 9:27SPEAKER_02: Often, they just can't get enough of them prime people.
- 9:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah, like they don't, yeah, like they, it's like a dirty little secret for them though.
- 9:34SPEAKER_04: Like they don't want to admit it.
- 9:35SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 9:36SPEAKER_04: But they like they cannot get enough of humans.
- 9:38SPEAKER_04: They they want to fuck them all.
- 9:40SPEAKER_02: And now that song is just playing in my head.
- 9:44SPEAKER_02: Thanks for that.
- 9:45SPEAKER_02: You're you're welcome.
- 9:46SPEAKER_02: They are.
- 9:47SPEAKER_03: No.
- 9:48SPEAKER_03: Okay, alright.
- 9:51SPEAKER_03: Except they won't keep these dirty little secrets.
- 9:54SPEAKER_03: Not like they won't keep them quiet, as then they won't keep the children.
- 9:56SPEAKER_03: They just won't keep them quite.
- 9:57SPEAKER_04: Right, yeah.
- 9:58SPEAKER_04: And also, like, like, come on, like, you you just like look at a ginasi.
- 10:02SPEAKER_04: It's like everybody knows.
- 10:03SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 10:04SPEAKER_04: Like, we know what you did, even if you don't want to admit it.
- 10:06SPEAKER_02: We can deny it all you want, but it's very evident.
- 10:09SPEAKER_03: Um, they're found in totally isolated areas or urban city centers, Waterdeep being the example.
- 10:15SPEAKER_03: No in-between, evidently, but those that's what it said.
- 10:20SPEAKER_04: I mean, that kind of almost makes sense to me.
- 10:25SPEAKER_04: Because I feel like okay, like you would imagine that a very populated area like Waterdeep might be I feel like they'll either leave live in exile or in emotional exile surrounded by everyone.
- 10:41SPEAKER_04: Where they're kind of like they it's almost like that like hiding in plain sight thing.
- 10:45SPEAKER_04: Where it's like you can kind of you can kind of lose yourself in that very like highly, like highly densely populated area.
- 10:52SPEAKER_04: Especially uh places diverse as Waterdeep.
- 10:55SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 10:56SPEAKER_04: So like I would I would imagine that, especially given that I I would assume that maybe in third edition there's still a little bit of that societal prejudice.
- 11:05SPEAKER_04: Maybe.
- 11:05SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 11:06SPEAKER_04: As was described earlier.
- 11:07SPEAKER_04: That that makes sense to me.
- 11:10SPEAKER_03: Um third edition Forgotten Realms turns the Janasi into, I mean, not all of the Janasi, but a large number of them, as having been native to a beer and transported in great number to Toril via the spell plague.
- 11:23SPEAKER_04: Fucking spell plague.
- 11:24SPEAKER_03: Spell plague, you'll recall, was the catastrophe that resulted from Mistra, goddess of magic, dying, and the weave she maintained fell apart.
- 11:32SPEAKER_03: And everything went to and then everything broke.
- 11:36SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 11:37SPEAKER_03: Rocks fell, everybody died.
- 11:39SPEAKER_03: Just shattered.
- 11:40SPEAKER_03: Um beer and Toril, um, just this little refresher, are the same planet, except it was like twinned cut in half, basically, and one went to the gods and one went to the primordials.
- 11:51SPEAKER_03: Boom.
- 11:51SPEAKER_03: Um, but those two planets in the spell plague were colliding and mixing together because everything was.
- 11:58SPEAKER_04: That's every like I like cannot stress, which we haven't even we haven't done an episode on the spell plate proper, but like cannot stress how much it just ruined everything.
- 12:08SPEAKER_02: It just fucked it all up.
- 12:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like no barrier.
- 12:12SPEAKER_02: Barrier was gone, everything was rubbing up against everything else, and yeah, that's how the Janasi were made.
- 12:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 12:19unknown: Jesus.
- 12:20SPEAKER_03: Kalamshan and Akhenul were large Janasi lands uh that resulted from bell plague and the merging of a beer and tauril.
- 12:28SPEAKER_03: Doing their thing.
- 12:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 12:30SPEAKER_03: Um, Akhenul in particular uh claimed for the be was claimed for the Janasi, and Calamshane was being fought over by battling Janasi warlords and they're human slaves.
- 12:42SPEAKER_03: Oh.
- 12:42SPEAKER_03: Yay! Slavery! Slavery's bad.
- 12:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah! Don't do a slavery, kids.
- 12:48SPEAKER_04: Slavery bad.
- 12:49SPEAKER_04: Slavery, not even once.
- 12:51SPEAKER_03: Um, so before we move on to fourth edition, we're gonna talk about the types of Janasi.
- 12:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I'm putting fourth edition off for reasons that will become obvious.
- 13:01SPEAKER_04: Oh, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 13:02SPEAKER_04: Is it because fourth edition actually takes the genasi and does something really cool and innovative for once in its fucking life?
- 13:10SPEAKER_02: No.
- 13:10SPEAKER_04: No?
- 13:12SPEAKER_02: I mean, I'm gonna guess no.
- 13:13SPEAKER_04: Based on Taylor's expression, I'm gonna say no.
- 13:16SPEAKER_03: Look, it's a thing, okay?
- 13:18SPEAKER_03: I I'm not in favor of it.
- 13:20SPEAKER_03: I'm not saying that it was necessarily the worst move.
- 13:25SPEAKER_03: I mean, yeah.
- 13:27SPEAKER_03: It's probably it was a thing.
- 13:29SPEAKER_04: Okay, it was certainly a thing, it sounds like we'll get there.
- 13:33SPEAKER_04: We'll get there.
- 13:34SPEAKER_03: There are four main types of genasi depending on their elemental parent: air, earth, fire, and water.
- 13:40SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 13:40SPEAKER_03: It pained me not to say that in avatar order.
- 13:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 13:45SPEAKER_02: Water, earth, fire, air.
- 13:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 13:47SPEAKER_03: I just said it in um alphabetical order.
- 13:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:51SPEAKER_03: So I don't know if I had already had this realization and forgotten it, or if I just figured it out for the first time, but I know who the wind dukes are.
- 13:59SPEAKER_03: Oh, wait, are they just Air Genasi?
- 14:01SPEAKER_03: They're fucking just Air Genasi.
- 14:05SPEAKER_03: Air Genasi, or as they call themselves, Wind Dukes, see themselves as the rightful inheritors of their lineage.
- 14:12SPEAKER_04: Wait, no, okay.
- 14:14SPEAKER_04: Okay, but whatever like I saw in the Ara Coker episode, like w the it was capitalized.
- 14:23SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 14:23SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 14:24SPEAKER_03: I think they are very specific.
- 14:26SPEAKER_04: Like that's a very specific group of Windukes, aka the Windukes of they named their Aki?
- 14:33SPEAKER_03: Aqua, Aki, uh.
- 14:40SPEAKER_04: Um Okay, alright.
- 14:42SPEAKER_04: That pisses me off.
- 14:44SPEAKER_04: This is just a particular kingdom of Air Genasi.
- 14:46SPEAKER_04: Fuck off.
- 14:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 14:48SPEAKER_03: Um in I should mention that only Second Mystique.
- 14:52SPEAKER_04: The Mystique is ruined.
- 14:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 14:53SPEAKER_04: Christ.
- 14:54SPEAKER_03: Because I was so I was always so curious about those guys.
- 14:57SPEAKER_04: Whoever the Wind Oops of Aka are, they're just fucking Air Genasi.
- 15:01SPEAKER_04: Eat shit.
- 15:03SPEAKER_03: Um, second edition is the only edition that gives these special additional nicknames for the Genasi.
- 15:08SPEAKER_04: Um, so yeah, maybe it's something that like over time, because they took away these special nicknames, uh, that it's kind of been retcon into actually being these mysterious like pre-history wind dukes, but as near as we can tell, they're just a particular group of air genasi who are probably more self-important, which is why they capitalize wind dukes.
- 15:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 15:32SPEAKER_03: Um so they see themselves as these right the rightful inheritors of the sky, the wind, and the very air that other creatures breathe.
- 15:40SPEAKER_03: Oh my.
- 15:41SPEAKER_03: Airginasi look generally human, um, with one or two unusual traits that clearly manifest their elemental nature, like light blue skin or hair, a constant breeze around them, a breathy voice with strange inflections, and flesh that's cool to the touch.
- 15:56SPEAKER_03: They care very little about their appearances.
- 16:00SPEAKER_03: Uh, tussled hair and elements of clothes simply show the natural way of things in their eyes.
- 16:05SPEAKER_03: They vary quickly between calm reserve and great intensity.
- 16:09SPEAKER_03: Like the wind.
- 16:10SPEAKER_03: Right, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:12SPEAKER_03: Are they also super hot and super buff?
- 16:14SPEAKER_03: I mean always, duh.
- 16:15SPEAKER_03: Oh, okay.
- 16:16SPEAKER_04: Alright, gosh.
- 16:17SPEAKER_03: That just goes in with their lineage.
- 16:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I was gonna say, I wasn't sure if that was like maybe a I would assume it was a dominant trait, but you know.
- 16:24SPEAKER_04: I mean, it didn't say it, but I'm just going to assume.
- 16:27SPEAKER_03: Right, like yeah.
- 16:29SPEAKER_02: I mean Yeah, probably.
- 16:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 16:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 16:34SPEAKER_03: They're usually raised on the plane of air in floating human cities and castles, although on occasion their djinn parent will raise them.
- 16:42SPEAKER_03: Um this is the only time I've ever seen mention of their um genie parent raising this particular genasi.
- 16:52SPEAKER_04: I mean, to be fair, I feel like if I was gonna pick out any type of genie that I think would be the ones that are like most down to do that, it would be the djinn.
- 16:59SPEAKER_01: So yeah, I would agree.
- 17:01SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean, they're kind of the more chill like kind of ones, I think that they would be down with that.
- 17:09SPEAKER_03: Air genasi are often accepted and respected among humans.
- 17:13SPEAKER_03: Second edition describes them as being fairly arrogant and pretentious and looking down on all other races as inferior.
- 17:20SPEAKER_03: They have no need to breathe and hold those that do in contempt.
- 17:25SPEAKER_03: Aside from this, second edition notes that they are wild and carefree.
- 17:28SPEAKER_03: Third edition cuts the arrogance down quite a bit and just sticks with the wild and carefree.
- 17:35SPEAKER_03: You know, I with a touch of arrogance.
- 17:38SPEAKER_03: Well, I mean, yeah.
- 17:40SPEAKER_03: I mean, you can't be a descendant of a genie and not be arrogant.
- 17:44SPEAKER_04: At least a little bit.
- 17:45SPEAKER_02: I'm just thinking of the fact that they see someone breathe and they're like, contempt.
- 17:50SPEAKER_02: Fucking loser needs to breathe.
- 17:53SPEAKER_04: Fucking loser needs to take in oxygen and turn it into carbon dioxide.
- 17:57SPEAKER_04: Waste of air.
- 17:59SPEAKER_02: That we own but don't need.
- 18:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:03SPEAKER_04: Hey, I mean, that's kind of capitalism?
- 18:13SPEAKER_04: You know, I was gonna try to get more philosophical with it, but as I mean, as is often the case, Travis just cuts right to the heart of the issue.
- 18:22SPEAKER_02: CJ, this is your fault.
- 18:24SPEAKER_02: I know you're listening.
- 18:25SPEAKER_02: It's your fault.
- 18:26SPEAKER_04: This is CJ.
- 18:27SPEAKER_04: I wasn't, yeah, CJ just possessed Travis for a moment.
- 18:30SPEAKER_04: I I think that's accurate.
- 18:32SPEAKER_02: Same.
- 18:32SPEAKER_03: Hi, CJ.
- 18:34SPEAKER_03: Can we have Travis back now?
- 18:35SPEAKER_03: Thanks.
- 18:37SPEAKER_03: Um Air Genasi use weapons and armor just like humans and are as helpless as humans in unarmed combat.
- 18:43SPEAKER_02: Oh, but they're so superior.
- 18:45SPEAKER_04: Well, actually, I was gonna say, I don't know if they're ass.
- 18:48SPEAKER_04: Because I mean, you can't you can't like choke an Air Genasi.
- 18:52SPEAKER_03: So Um Once per day, Air Genasi, I mean, that's true.
- 18:56SPEAKER_03: You're not wrong.
- 18:57SPEAKER_03: Once per day, an Air Genasi can cast Levitate as a uh fifth-level sorcerer.
- 19:02SPEAKER_03: Um again, this is third edition.
- 19:04SPEAKER_03: Um Air Genasi gains a plus one racial bonus on all saving throws against air spells and effects.
- 19:12SPEAKER_03: Uh Airgenasi do not breathe, so they are immune to most gas attacks, drowning, and suffocation.
- 19:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 19:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean that makes sense.
- 19:22SPEAKER_03: Next up, we got the Earth Genasi.
- 19:24SPEAKER_02: Ooh.
- 19:25SPEAKER_03: They are strong and immovable and ponderous and call themselves stone princes.
- 19:31SPEAKER_03: Most Earth Genasi embrace their elemental natures, revelling in their superiority, strength, and earthborne power.
- 19:38SPEAKER_03: God.
- 19:39SPEAKER_03: Some Earth Genasi seem dirty, rough, and rugged like a handful of stones.
- 19:43SPEAKER_03: Same.
- 19:44SPEAKER_03: Others look as impeccably clean as polished gems.
- 19:48SPEAKER_03: Nice.
- 19:48SPEAKER_05: Toph.
- 19:50SPEAKER_03: Toph is an Earth Genasi.
- 19:52SPEAKER_03: I don't know if you've figured that yet.
- 19:54SPEAKER_02: The first, the first kind.
- 19:56SPEAKER_03: Oh, Mrs.
- 19:57SPEAKER_04: Beifong.
- 20:00SPEAKER_04: Oh, Parish.
- 20:02SPEAKER_04: Parish the first.
- 20:03SPEAKER_02: What if Mr.
- 20:04SPEAKER_02: Beifong was the elemental?
- 20:06SPEAKER_04: No.
- 20:07SPEAKER_04: No.
- 20:07SPEAKER_04: No.
- 20:08SPEAKER_02: Just using like a polymorph spell.
- 20:10SPEAKER_03: No.
- 20:11SPEAKER_03: It would explain why they only had one child.
- 20:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah, true.
- 20:15SPEAKER_04: But it wouldn't explain why he's such a fucking loser.
- 20:20SPEAKER_03: Okay, this is not our Avatar The Last Airbender podcast.
- 20:22SPEAKER_04: Podcast.
- 20:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 20:23SPEAKER_04: You can actually, uh we'll talk about that in the action.
- 20:25SPEAKER_04: No, we don't have one of those.
- 20:27SPEAKER_04: Um we could though.
- 20:28SPEAKER_04: We could.
- 20:29SPEAKER_04: We have the the fucking technology.
- 20:34SPEAKER_04: And we have the we have the onions on Avatar the Last Airbender.
- 20:37SPEAKER_03: We have so many onions on Avatar The Last Airbender.
- 20:40SPEAKER_03: Um, an individual earth genasiate might have earth-like skin, a metallic sheen to the skin or hair, blocky features, gritty flesh, a deep voice and slow speech, or black eyes like deep pits.
- 20:51SPEAKER_04: Hey, a metallic sheen to the skin or hair might just be their their oils.
- 20:56SPEAKER_04: Listen.
- 20:57SPEAKER_04: Listen.
- 20:59SPEAKER_04: Listen, I'm a I'm an I'm an oily bitch, and sometimes I go like an amount of time without washing my hair, okay?
- 21:05SPEAKER_04: Because if you wash it too frequently, it will um dry out.
- 21:09SPEAKER_04: It'll it'll like crust off like sand.
- 21:13SPEAKER_03: They tend to be slow to act and ponderous in thought.
- 21:16SPEAKER_03: They are far from stupid.
- 21:18SPEAKER_03: If conceived of the Tao parent, the human parent would 100% be the one to raise the genasi.
- 21:24SPEAKER_03: There is no exception.
- 21:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I can't.
- 21:26SPEAKER_03: As the Tao care nothing for creatures of the flesh, including their own creatures of the flesh.
- 21:32SPEAKER_04: Okay, so they they don't care for creatures of the flesh, but they care for pleasures of the flesh, if you will.
- 21:38SPEAKER_04: Then they're done.
- 21:39SPEAKER_02: Like, no, you can keep that hell spawn.
- 21:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 21:42SPEAKER_02: Uh keep that little pebble.
- 21:44SPEAKER_03: Pebble.
- 21:46SPEAKER_03: Nice.
- 21:47SPEAKER_03: Nice.
- 21:48SPEAKER_03: Uh they prefer uh Genasi prefer no particular clothing but choose to adorn themselves and their things with precious gems and metals.
- 21:56SPEAKER_04: So what you're saying is they just walk around naked.
- 22:00SPEAKER_04: And just adorn themselves with jewelry.
- 22:02SPEAKER_04: Got it.
- 22:02SPEAKER_03: Probably.
- 22:03SPEAKER_04: I mean, some of them probably do.
- 22:05SPEAKER_04: Let's be real.
- 22:06SPEAKER_03: I mean, they're the the descendants of a genie.
- 22:08SPEAKER_04: Like, what are you gonna do?
- 22:09SPEAKER_04: Tell them, put that away.
- 22:10SPEAKER_03: Like uh, Earth Genasi favor heavy bludgeting weapons, but are not adverse to striking with their fists.
- 22:17SPEAKER_04: Their fists probably are heavy bludgeting weapons.
- 22:19SPEAKER_04: Let's be real.
- 22:20SPEAKER_04: Probably.
- 22:21SPEAKER_03: Uh, once per day, an Earth Genasi can cast Pass Without a Trace as a fifth-level druid.
- 22:25SPEAKER_03: Uh, an Earth Genasi has a bonus on all saving throws against Earth spells and effects.
- 22:30SPEAKER_03: Pass without a trace?
- 22:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's um because I feel like they would almost be like that.
- 22:36SPEAKER_04: Um like if you're wearing plate mail, you automatically uh well get disadvantage on your I can kind of see it though, especially if you're actually like trying to sneak through like a mountainous rocky area.
- 22:50SPEAKER_04: Okay, yeah, okay.
- 22:51SPEAKER_02: They could probably just kind of like merge with the stone to move silently.
- 22:55SPEAKER_03: I was wrong, it doesn't actually change at all to to fit the okay.
- 22:58SPEAKER_04: I can see that.
- 22:59SPEAKER_04: I can see that justification.
- 23:00SPEAKER_04: My immediate thought was just like the noise.
- 23:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 23:04SPEAKER_02: I guess as long as there's something that they could physically merge their body with to reduce the noise, that would be the reason.
- 23:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 23:11SPEAKER_04: Sure.
- 23:12SPEAKER_04: All right, fair enough.
- 23:13SPEAKER_04: A little, it's a little weird.
- 23:14SPEAKER_04: It's not quite as I think cut, it's not as quite as I think cut and dry as like an air genasi being able to levitate.
- 23:20SPEAKER_04: But I'll tell you, I mean, sure.
- 23:22SPEAKER_04: Sure.
- 23:23SPEAKER_04: I mean, honestly, we've already baited that we're gonna talk about fourth edition and it's gonna be a time and a half, so it's probably not the weirdest, most inconsistent thing I'm gonna hear in this episode.
- 23:33SPEAKER_04: Probably.
- 23:33SPEAKER_04: So what?
- 23:34SPEAKER_03: So moving on, uh, the fire genasi or flame lords.
- 23:38SPEAKER_03: Discount fire lords.
- 23:40SPEAKER_03: Um, they claim to be forged, not born.
- 23:46SPEAKER_03: I mean This is inaccurate and potentially a metaphor, but I digress.
- 23:50SPEAKER_04: I mean, you are, you are, never mind.
- 23:54SPEAKER_02: Nope.
- 23:55SPEAKER_02: Pounded into existence.
- 23:57SPEAKER_04: That's not what I was gonna say, but that's better than what I was saying.
- 24:01SPEAKER_04: God damn it.
- 24:01SPEAKER_04: That's better than what I was gonna say.
- 24:04SPEAKER_04: God damn it, you guys.
- 24:06SPEAKER_04: Alright, guys, that's it.
- 24:08SPEAKER_04: That's the episode.
- 24:09SPEAKER_04: We're not gonna say anything any funnier than that.
- 24:12SPEAKER_03: Okay, but I still have a lot more information to get through.
- 24:14SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 24:15SPEAKER_02: Okay, so we're not done, but just know that was probably the peak.
- 24:20SPEAKER_04: Somebody's somebody's gonna Okay, alright, alright, alright, alright.
- 24:24SPEAKER_04: Thank you, Travis.
- 24:24SPEAKER_04: You made the joke for me.
- 24:25SPEAKER_03: Moving on, play lords, play lords.
- 24:27SPEAKER_03: Um, the offspring of humans and fire elementals, such as a frit, are usually slain outright by their elemental parent, but some do escape.
- 24:35SPEAKER_03: Oh shit.
- 24:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 24:37SPEAKER_03: Oh man, that's even weird.
- 24:43SPEAKER_03: Offspring with mortals.
- 24:45SPEAKER_03: They don't like having a potential um heir.
- 24:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah, or you know, someone who can like supersede them.
- 24:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 24:53SPEAKER_03: Um, fire ginasi are are proud of their appearance and generally strive for a look of simple elegance.
- 25:00SPEAKER_03: The way I see this of them being like proud of their heritage is kind of like a fuck, I'm so cool, I survived being born.
- 25:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like uh Yeah, like in this case, I have to give it to them.
- 25:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah, like fair enough.
- 25:14SPEAKER_03: Well, honestly, you have to give it to their parent, who their mortal parents are.
- 25:18SPEAKER_02: Somehow saved them, yeah.
- 25:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 25:20SPEAKER_03: Um specific traits that distinguish phyogenosity from their human ancestors can include deep red or coal black skin, red hair that moves on its own like waving flames, a voice that crackles like the sound of wood burning, warm or hot flesh, and eyes that like uh fiery eyes that glow with flame-like intensity.
- 25:39SPEAKER_04: Okay, I would like to make the case that I feel like most regular humans have warm flesh.
- 25:44SPEAKER_04: Okay, but hot flesh.
- 25:46SPEAKER_04: I mean, depending.
- 25:49SPEAKER_02: Um the voice that sounds like crackles of burning wood is amazing to me.
- 25:55SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, like that's some ASMR shit.
- 25:58SPEAKER_04: Right?
- 25:58SPEAKER_04: Like, I feel like if if somebody just like started talking to me in a voice like that, I would just be like, hi.
- 26:05SPEAKER_04: Keep talking, please.
- 26:06SPEAKER_04: Can you um here's a phone book?
- 26:08SPEAKER_04: Can you read this to me?
- 26:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah, for sure.
- 26:11SPEAKER_04: There's a textbook on economics.
- 26:14SPEAKER_02: Also, you could probably want to give them like the dictionary, because if you give them a phone book, they're just gonna be reading numbers.
- 26:18SPEAKER_02: And those are some pretty numbers.
- 26:21SPEAKER_03: Oh, oh, never mind.
- 26:23SPEAKER_03: There's there's a lot I can say there.
- 26:25SPEAKER_03: Moving on.
- 26:26SPEAKER_03: Um, side note, I might want to make a phyogenasi uh character at some point, just so I can have an excuse to talk like that.
- 26:33SPEAKER_05: Fair.
- 26:34SPEAKER_04: You just like you just like have a have a video of like one of those relaxing, like crackling fireplace videos ready to go.
- 26:42SPEAKER_04: And then whenever you need to do your character voice, you just turn it on.
- 26:45SPEAKER_03: And just talk over it.
- 26:46SPEAKER_03: And like tell people what uh send people what I'm saying, like um so that they can interpret like uh Chewbacca, like, yes, that's a very good plan.
- 26:56SPEAKER_04: That's a very good plan.
- 26:57SPEAKER_04: I mean, I was gonna say just talk over it, but also that works too.
- 27:00SPEAKER_03: Um uh fire Genazi tend to be full of energy, high strung, and quick to action.
- 27:07SPEAKER_03: They speak quickly and prefer action to discussion.
- 27:10SPEAKER_02: Hmm.
- 27:10SPEAKER_02: That that sounds about right for that's following the fruit.
- 27:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah, for you know, and just like the general fire vibe.
- 27:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's too.
- 27:20SPEAKER_03: Alternatively, they might have been every Aries that I've ever known.
- 27:25SPEAKER_03: Ginger.
- 27:26SPEAKER_03: Um, fire genasi believe themselves to be naturally superior to creatures afraid of fire.
- 27:32SPEAKER_03: I mean, I get it.
- 27:34SPEAKER_03: Gee.
- 27:35SPEAKER_03: They prefer blacks and reds in their clothing and jewelry.
- 27:38SPEAKER_01: Same.
- 27:39SPEAKER_03: Appear uh yeah, same.
- 27:41SPEAKER_03: I mean like dead ass, though.
- 27:42SPEAKER_03: Literally not even a joke.
- 27:44SPEAKER_04: Like, not even a joke, just a statement of pure statement of fact.
- 27:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 27:49SPEAKER_03: Um, appearance is important to them, although they prefer simple and elegant as opposed to gaudy and lavish.
- 27:56SPEAKER_05: I respect that.
- 27:57SPEAKER_03: Firegenasi use weapons and armor just like humans.
- 28:00SPEAKER_03: Uh, they prefer weapons with a keen edge, including scimitars, falcions, and bladed pole arms.
- 28:06SPEAKER_04: Nice.
- 28:06SPEAKER_04: Love me a bladed pole.
- 28:08SPEAKER_04: Scimitars are also pretty deep.
- 28:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah, love, love all of those, actually.
- 28:12SPEAKER_03: Uh, once per day, a firegenasi can cause any non-magical flame within a 10-foot radius to either diminish to coals or flare to the brightness of daylight and double its normal radius of illumination.
- 28:22SPEAKER_03: This magical effect does not change the heat or fuel consumption of the fire.
- 28:26SPEAKER_03: The ability lasts for five minutes.
- 28:28SPEAKER_02: That'd sniffy.
- 28:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 28:30SPEAKER_02: That that could be helpful.
- 28:32SPEAKER_03: Fire Genasi have a bonus on all saving throws versus fire spells and effects.
- 28:37SPEAKER_02: Makes sense.
- 28:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah, right, right.
- 28:38SPEAKER_03: Next up we have the water genasi.
- 28:42SPEAKER_02: Ooh.
- 28:42SPEAKER_02: Which I played in my first Pathfinder campaign.
- 28:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he was the worst ninja ever.
- 28:49SPEAKER_02: Yep, he was the world's worst ninja with a negative four to his hit.
- 28:55SPEAKER_02: Jesus.
- 28:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:58SPEAKER_02: That was a great distraction.
- 29:00SPEAKER_02: That was about all I was good for.
- 29:02SPEAKER_03: Uh uh, you you really Altair'd through that campaign.
- 29:06SPEAKER_03: I did.
- 29:08SPEAKER_02: I should have named him Altair.
- 29:09SPEAKER_02: I don't even remember what his name was.
- 29:12SPEAKER_04: Rest in peace, unknown, terrible ninja.
- 29:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 29:15SPEAKER_03: Uh the endless lapping of wave after wave, the salty sea foam spraying into the air, the bottomless ocean depths with pity with pitiless darkness and breath-stealing pressure.
- 29:26SPEAKER_03: These are the elements of a water genasi's heart.
- 29:28SPEAKER_03: Even the fucking description feels like it was written by a water genie.
- 29:32SPEAKER_03: I'm just saying.
- 29:33SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 29:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 29:34SPEAKER_04: Like they're like an like an edgy teenage water genasi specifically.
- 29:42SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 29:43SPEAKER_03: Water genasi or sea kings, as they call themselves, are unlike the other genasi as the are as unlike the other genasi as they are their parents.
- 29:52SPEAKER_03: They are often so independent that they will self-orphan and be raised by neither parent, but instead the sea.
- 30:00SPEAKER_03: The sea! Sea creatures are naturally inclined to look after them and parent-holy shit, holy shit, dolphin parents! Yes! Dolphin parents! He gives examples as dolphins, sharks, etc.
- 30:12SPEAKER_03: Holy shit.
- 30:12SPEAKER_03: The downside being if an evil creature stumbles upon them and decides to parent them, they will be inclined towards evil being evil and basically be turned into servants of evil.
- 30:22SPEAKER_03: You mean like a vampire flat flap?
- 30:23unknown: Yeah.
- 30:25SPEAKER_04: Or a Sahuagan, for example.
- 30:27SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 30:27SPEAKER_04: That too.
- 30:28SPEAKER_03: Um when when they are actually raised by their parents, adoptive or otherwise, a water genasi has this natural urge to take to sea alone, even after like just not even being fully grown.
- 30:43SPEAKER_03: So they're just they're just like they just want to go to the ocean and live there.
- 30:50SPEAKER_03: They're like fucking um Ariel's daughter in the direct to DVD uh sequel.
- 30:57SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 30:57SPEAKER_04: I don't think that was even direct to DVD.
- 30:59SPEAKER_04: I want to say that was like gonna that was direct to VHS.
- 31:02SPEAKER_04: I think that was a direct to VHS.
- 31:03SPEAKER_04: I think that was direct to VHS, honestly.
- 31:06SPEAKER_04: Melody Melody.
- 31:08SPEAKER_04: Melody.
- 31:10SPEAKER_02: I just never watched it.
- 31:11SPEAKER_02: I never watched the second one.
- 31:13SPEAKER_02: It was okay.
- 31:14SPEAKER_02: I didn't care enough.
- 31:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I would say it was probably the best direct to VHS sequel.
- 31:19SPEAKER_03: Well, okay.
- 31:21SPEAKER_04: Well, no, that wasn't a that wasn't a doubt.
- 31:23SPEAKER_04: That was just me trying to remember like think of the direct to uh VHS slash DVD.
- 31:29SPEAKER_03: I mean, it was just reverse little mermaid one.
- 31:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah, which I mean because she's a human who wants to be a mermaid.
- 31:36SPEAKER_03: But she's actually secretly a mermaid.
- 31:39SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 31:40SPEAKER_03: You know, I mean at that point, how does never mind.
- 31:43SPEAKER_03: Anyway, um water genasi always display one or more of the following traits: blue-green hair or skin, blue black eyes, thin scales covering their body, hair that waves and sways as if it's underwater.
- 31:56SPEAKER_03: Fucking cool.
- 31:58SPEAKER_03: A muffled voice resembling the echoing songs of whales or cold clammy flesh.
- 32:04SPEAKER_04: Okay, I love how it's it says that the air genasi also have cold flesh, but it's specified that the water genasi are clammy or can be clammy.
- 32:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 32:13SPEAKER_04: Clammy.
- 32:15SPEAKER_03: Nice.
- 32:16SPEAKER_03: Uh they breathe water as easily as air, so they're amphibious.
- 32:19SPEAKER_03: Uh, their personalities vary widely as they are often raised by members of aquatic races.
- 32:24SPEAKER_03: So lagon, dolphins, whales, tritons, murfolts, or loca.
- 32:30SPEAKER_04: Ooh, this is raised by like an aboleth.
- 32:33SPEAKER_04: Imagine how fucked up that would be.
- 32:34SPEAKER_04: Oh my god.
- 32:35SPEAKER_04: Oh no.
- 32:36SPEAKER_04: Oofa doofah.
- 32:37SPEAKER_04: Actually, they probably wouldn't be raised by an aboleth, the other one.
- 32:39SPEAKER_04: They would just be enslaved.
- 32:41SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 32:41SPEAKER_03: Actually, well, because they can already breathe underwater, so like.
- 32:45SPEAKER_03: They would probably be at least respected enough to just be raised for their as a pawn.
- 32:50SPEAKER_03: Right, yeah.
- 32:51SPEAKER_03: Not like, you know.
- 32:53SPEAKER_03: Anyway.
- 32:54SPEAKER_03: They tend to be strongly independent and believe themselves to be utterly unique individuals.
- 32:59SPEAKER_03: They l they are so, so much the children of Merids.
- 33:04SPEAKER_03: It hurts.
- 33:05SPEAKER_04: Okay, I've I feel really attacked right now.
- 33:10SPEAKER_04: Um I I feel so attacked right now.
- 33:13SPEAKER_04: Like, this is like oh.
- 33:16SPEAKER_04: This next part?
- 33:18SPEAKER_04: Or the part that I previously mentioned?
- 33:19SPEAKER_04: Just oh, this is me right now, in like a few days before my birthday, cancer season is in full swing, and I just want to go cry into the ocean, and I feel really called out right now.
- 33:32SPEAKER_03: I'm sorry.
- 33:32SPEAKER_03: Um, they develop strong personalities in their isolation, such as heroism to the point of martyrdom, paranoia, etc.
- 33:41SPEAKER_04: Taylor just snatched my whole fucking head.
- 33:43SPEAKER_04: I didn't even mean to.
- 33:45SPEAKER_04: Oh, I was gonna say this book, third edition, just snatched my whole fucking head, as it sometimes does.
- 33:50SPEAKER_03: Um, water genasi use weapons and armor that function well underwater, usually a murfolk make.
- 33:56SPEAKER_03: That makes sense.
- 33:56SPEAKER_03: Once yeah.
- 33:57SPEAKER_03: Once per day, a water genasi can create water as a fifth-level druid.
- 34:01SPEAKER_03: Cool.
- 34:02SPEAKER_03: Uh water genasi have a bonus on saving throws against water spells and effects.
- 34:07SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 34:07SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 34:08SPEAKER_04: That yeah, that's fair.
- 34:09SPEAKER_04: Imagine if we got to the water genasi and it was like they uh they actually have a save against uh fire.
- 34:17SPEAKER_03: That would be so wild.
- 34:19SPEAKER_02: Which they should have a resistance to it.
- 34:21SPEAKER_03: I agree.
- 34:22SPEAKER_03: Just a just just a few from Pokemon mechanics.
- 34:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 34:26SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 34:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and a lot of other and real life mechanics.
- 34:30SPEAKER_04: Real life mechanics.
- 34:31SPEAKER_03: Uh too.
- 34:32SPEAKER_03: Um, so I know what you're thinking.
- 34:34SPEAKER_03: Like, okay, we're we're done with the big glossy uh types.
- 34:40SPEAKER_03: We're let's time to dive into fourth edition, right?
- 34:43SPEAKER_04: I mean, it's never time to dive into fourth edition, really.
- 34:46SPEAKER_04: No, we have more.
- 34:48SPEAKER_04: It's so shallow we can't dive into it.
- 34:50SPEAKER_04: Well, damn.
- 34:53SPEAKER_03: We have more in third edition, so we can keep procrastinating.
- 34:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 34:57SPEAKER_03: But of course, I'm gonna procrastinate more with an ad break.
- 35:02SPEAKER_04: Oh, okay.
- 35:02SPEAKER_04: That's you know what, that's fair.

- 39:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they'll at least Google us and we'll get that hit at the very least.
- 39:15SPEAKER_03: True.
- 39:16SPEAKER_02: Good God.
- 39:17SPEAKER_03: It shouldn't be the only hit out for us.
- 39:24SPEAKER_02: Well, you know who definitely does not have a hit out for us that we're aware of.
- 39:28SPEAKER_02: Oh shit.
- 39:29SPEAKER_02: Uh, that's uh Alexander Nakarada, who made our theme song Blacksmith.
- 39:34SPEAKER_04: Which is a hit.
- 39:36SPEAKER_02: It is a hit.
- 39:36SPEAKER_04: It is a hit.
- 39:37SPEAKER_04: It is for us.
- 39:38SPEAKER_02: We love that song.
- 39:40SPEAKER_02: So thank you, Alexander.
- 39:42SPEAKER_04: I think with that, I need to go lie down for a few minutes and maybe take some ibuprofen because my jaw hurts.
- 39:50SPEAKER_02: Is it from all the hard boys?
- 39:55SPEAKER_04: No, it's from all the hard girls.
- 39:58SPEAKER_04: Okay, back to the podcast.
- 40:01SPEAKER_02: Let's go.
- 40:01SPEAKER_02: We're done.
- 40:02SPEAKER_04: I'm ending you guys.
- 40:04SPEAKER_04: Thank God, finally.
- 40:06unknown: Okay.
- 40:07SPEAKER_02: So I think I'm done.
- 40:09SPEAKER_02: We made it through.
- 40:10SPEAKER_02: It was a struggle, but we made it through.
- 40:12SPEAKER_02: So I'm laughing again.
- 40:14SPEAKER_02: There are more.
- 40:17SPEAKER_02: There are more.
- 40:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 40:18SPEAKER_02: How are there more?
- 40:19SPEAKER_02: We covered all four.
- 40:22SPEAKER_04: Well, but also there are different, it's not even genasium are strictly the offspring of genes and humans.
- 40:28SPEAKER_04: That's just the most common.
- 40:29SPEAKER_04: And there are also what were they like quasi-elementals and para-elementals as well?
- 40:35SPEAKER_03: Yes, but interestingly enough, they don't really come into uh the humans very much.
- 40:44SPEAKER_03: They don't enter the equation.
- 40:47SPEAKER_03: That doesn't sound much better.
- 40:49SPEAKER_03: Anyway, Dragon Magazine 297 introduced the perigenasi for third edition.
- 40:55SPEAKER_03: I know it took only two of them.
- 41:02SPEAKER_03: I hate you.
- 41:03SPEAKER_02: I hate you.
- 41:04SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 41:06SPEAKER_02: So perigenasi.
- 41:08SPEAKER_03: They're less common than the main four and are descended from mixed bloodlines of elementals.
- 41:13SPEAKER_03: Oh.
- 41:14SPEAKER_03: Um example.
- 41:16SPEAKER_03: The daughter, if the daughter of the 3D has a child with a gen, it would create a smoke perogenasi.
- 41:24SPEAKER_05: Whoa.
- 41:25SPEAKER_03: The same result if a pyrogenasi and an air genasi had a child.
- 41:30SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 41:32SPEAKER_02: You know, I was always kind of curious about like if two genasi actually wound up having a child, if it would take over one or the other.
- 41:41SPEAKER_02: No, it just creates a new one.
- 41:44SPEAKER_03: Oh man.
- 41:45SPEAKER_03: Um, so does paragonasi are the offspring of air and earth I mean descendants, because it doesn't matter how like maybe it could have a potential.
- 41:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so it could be just like straight up an air and an earthgenasi, or it could be like air genasi here and then now.
- 42:02SPEAKER_04: Yeah, or like, you know, maybe there was some yeah, yeah.
- 42:07SPEAKER_03: Like further down the line.
- 42:08SPEAKER_04: Yeah, a little bit further down the line.
- 42:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 42:10SPEAKER_03: Uh dust genasi uh are gone to build with pale skin, hollow cheeks, and dark turtles under their eyes.
- 42:17SPEAKER_02: Oh, so it's me.
- 42:20SPEAKER_04: Hey, listen, you're not special.
- 42:22SPEAKER_04: We all have we all have Gucci bags under our eyes.
- 42:27SPEAKER_03: Most had treats like dry skin or an ever-present cloud of dust about them that came from their mixed ancestry.
- 42:33SPEAKER_03: Okay, so I have what is his name?
- 42:36SPEAKER_02: From peanuts.
- 42:37SPEAKER_04: Oh, oh, um, um, um, um, um, um.
- 42:41SPEAKER_03: That one.
- 42:42SPEAKER_03: Um peanuts.
- 42:46SPEAKER_03: This is characters.
- 42:47SPEAKER_03: This is thank you, Google.
- 42:49SPEAKER_03: Oh, uh, it's right on the tip of the Linus.
- 42:51SPEAKER_02: Linus.
- 42:51SPEAKER_03: Linus.
- 42:52SPEAKER_02: He always had a cloud of dust with him.
- 42:54SPEAKER_02: I mean, was that Linus?
- 42:56SPEAKER_03: With the with the wait, oh, hold on.
- 42:58SPEAKER_03: No, that was the blanket kid.
- 43:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, is this a uh oh I thought they no, nope, not one in the same.
- 43:03SPEAKER_03: Oh, um, it's uh Pig Pen.
- 43:06SPEAKER_04: Thank you.
- 43:08SPEAKER_04: That makes a lot of sense.
- 43:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 43:10SPEAKER_04: Because I well, that was what I was reaching for, is because I knew his name was a joke about him being a dirty boy.
- 43:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 43:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 43:17SPEAKER_04: Being a dirty boy.
- 43:18SPEAKER_04: So this is just a new new hot peanuts lore just dropped.
- 43:22SPEAKER_04: Pig pen is a dust genasi.
- 43:24SPEAKER_04: Nailed it.
- 43:26SPEAKER_04: Got him! And that's why we never call their parents.
- 43:30SPEAKER_03: That's oh that oh shit! Hot peanuts lore.
- 43:34SPEAKER_03: Um, these paragonasi are often are smart and often sarcastic and have a tendency towards the bleak and macabre with a morbid interest in death and decay that made them less than popular with others.
- 43:47SPEAKER_03: So why am I in this?
- 43:51SPEAKER_03: I'm in this picture and I don't like it.
- 43:54SPEAKER_03: Hey Travis, is this you?
- 43:57SPEAKER_03: They invariably wore dark or Black attires, often even wearing funeral vestments or the like, no matter how inappropriate this might be.
- 44:07SPEAKER_04: Okay, alright.
- 44:08SPEAKER_04: So the the water genosi snatched my whole head.
- 44:12SPEAKER_04: This is snatching all of our heads.
- 44:14SPEAKER_04: All three of us.
- 44:15SPEAKER_03: Um, though they uh though usually neutral in outlook, they had a slight inclination towards chaos.
- 44:22SPEAKER_03: Uh they were uh most lived as rogues, while clerics followed deities who uh either who offered either air or earth domains.
- 44:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, given their ancestry.
- 44:32SPEAKER_03: Uh though quite a nimble breed, they were often in poor health.
- 44:36SPEAKER_03: However, they Yeah.
- 44:39SPEAKER_03: They did not breathe, making drowning, suffocation, inhalation of poisons, and noxious vapors not a concern for them.
- 44:46SPEAKER_03: Huh.
- 44:46SPEAKER_02: Sweet.
- 44:47SPEAKER_03: They have a natural defense against dust-related spells such as dust or dryness, or the breath of a dust method.
- 44:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 44:55SPEAKER_03: Um, once a day, they had the ability to cast a 20-foot-wide cloud of dust to their aid, um, which concealed them from view and forced others into coughing bits.
- 45:05SPEAKER_04: Oh.
- 45:05SPEAKER_04: So when you send them out, they make sandstorm weather.
- 45:10SPEAKER_04: Awesome.
- 45:11SPEAKER_03: Um, next up we have an ice pereginasi.
- 45:22SPEAKER_03: Um they are earth and water.
- 45:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 45:26SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 45:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 45:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 45:28SPEAKER_04: I mean, okay.
- 45:30SPEAKER_04: I mean, to be fair, it is uh it is hard water.
- 45:33SPEAKER_03: So yeah, yeah.
- 45:35SPEAKER_03: Oh, oh wait.
- 45:36SPEAKER_03: Never mind.
- 45:37SPEAKER_03: They're not earth and water.
- 45:38SPEAKER_03: They are air and water.
- 45:40SPEAKER_02: Okay, see, air and water is what I was thinking, but I was like, I don't know if that's actually a thing.
- 45:45SPEAKER_03: Um air and water are things.
- 45:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so they are air and water.
- 45:49SPEAKER_03: Um, so they were emotionless and cold to others.
- 45:53SPEAKER_03: Typically neutral in outlook, observant but uncaring.
- 45:57SPEAKER_03: Uh, they preferred to be clad in white or pale blue clothing that was light and loose.
- 46:03SPEAKER_03: Um for the most part, these genasi appeared human, but commonly had sharper facial features and a more chiseled look than the average human.
- 46:11SPEAKER_04: Chiseled.
- 46:12SPEAKER_04: Chiseled.
- 46:13SPEAKER_04: That's the that's their uh handsome adjective.
- 46:17SPEAKER_02: Ice carving.
- 46:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 46:19SPEAKER_03: Um they were quite hardy but a bit sluggish.
- 46:24SPEAKER_03: Um, they have pale skin and supernatural traits such as breath that fogged in any weather or frost appearing in their hair.
- 46:32SPEAKER_03: Ooh, that's sweet.
- 46:33SPEAKER_03: That's kind of fun.
- 46:34SPEAKER_03: I like it.
- 46:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they have an innate ability to resist the harmful effects of cold that grew with experience.
- 46:40SPEAKER_03: They also have the ability to cast the chill the spell chill metal once per day.
- 46:44SPEAKER_04: That's a type of metal I've never heard of before.
- 46:47SPEAKER_04: Totally chill.
- 46:49SPEAKER_04: It's pretty calm.
- 46:50SPEAKER_04: It's like metal, but low-fi.
- 46:52SPEAKER_04: Low-fi metal.
- 46:53SPEAKER_04: It's a lo-fi metal.
- 46:54SPEAKER_04: Okay, but like that.
- 46:56SPEAKER_04: Probably actually exists.
- 46:57SPEAKER_04: That exists.
- 46:58SPEAKER_04: I'm sure it exists.
- 46:59SPEAKER_04: And somebody's gonna I'm being I'm like uncultured.
- 47:03SPEAKER_03: Um, so next up we have the magma peraginasi.
- 47:06SPEAKER_03: Oh, let me guess.
- 47:06SPEAKER_04: They're fire and earth.
- 47:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, I'm so smart.
- 47:10SPEAKER_03: They're usually stocky, short and stocky, resembling tall dwarves.
- 47:15SPEAKER_03: So they're like five foot tall.
- 47:17SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 47:18SPEAKER_03: They usually have dark skin and possess traits such as a reddish glow to their skin or eyes, unusually hot to the touch, or have hair that ripples like fire.
- 47:26SPEAKER_03: Lava girl.
- 47:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 47:28SPEAKER_03: That's really cool.
- 47:30SPEAKER_03: They tend towards simple utilitarian clothes, which often seem close to smoldering.
- 47:35SPEAKER_03: They're ponderous but powerful, and they combine many of the traits of their earthen and fiery ancestors.
- 47:41SPEAKER_03: Like all perigenasi, they tend towards neutrality.
- 47:44SPEAKER_03: Uh, they tend to be tough, but think slowly and uncertainly.
- 47:50SPEAKER_03: Um wait, I'm not tough either.
- 47:51SPEAKER_03: Damn it.
- 47:53SPEAKER_03: They have a racial bonus against saves, versus saves against fire, and once per day they can cast heat metal.
- 48:00SPEAKER_04: Huh.
- 48:00SPEAKER_04: That's kind of interesting.
- 48:03SPEAKER_04: I guess there's a certain point where it's like you you might consider like these traits as becoming like diluted down.
- 48:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 48:11SPEAKER_04: But like I would imagine that the usual like psychological profile of the descendant, essentially at some point of either an Earth Genasi or uh, you know, uh Fairy Genasi or Ifhrite or Dow or whatever, their psychological profile to just be like, this is the worst fucking asshole you've ever met.
- 48:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 48:34SPEAKER_04: Like the most, and because like, you know, the Ifreet are all angry and aggressive, and we're better than everyone else, we're gonna manifest our destiny everywhere and enslave everyone, and the Dow are just fucking capitalism given form.
- 48:46SPEAKER_04: So it's like you would think that if they like mingled, mingled, if you will, that the that their offspring would just be the most fucking inseparable person alive.
- 48:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 48:58SPEAKER_04: But anyway, that's just I just I just say it.
- 49:03SPEAKER_03: Next up we have the ooze paraginasi.
- 49:05SPEAKER_03: Oooooooze ooze.
- 49:08SPEAKER_04: Okay, I'm actually like kind of I'm into it though.
- 49:11SPEAKER_04: Uh they are descendants of earth and water elementals.
- 49:16SPEAKER_04: Yeah, they they they were workshopping the mud paraginasi, and they were like, nah, we can't make this sound cool.
- 49:23SPEAKER_02: Oooooooooh.
- 49:23SPEAKER_03: Well, it's kind of like the ooze uh para-elemental.
- 49:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 49:28SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 49:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah, actually.
- 49:30SPEAKER_03: Um, so they were known to have a disgusting outward appearance and known for their repulsive personalities.
- 49:36SPEAKER_03: Same buttons.
- 49:38SPEAKER_03: I mean, it definitely seems like the least favorable mixture.
- 49:42SPEAKER_03: Uh they were heavy set and durable with drooping bodies and yellowish skin.
- 49:47SPEAKER_04: They have jaundice.
- 49:49SPEAKER_03: They have jaundice.
- 49:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's a known trait of Ooze, Peraginasius, that they all have jaundice.
- 49:55SPEAKER_03: They usually wore darker earth tan clothes.
- 49:57SPEAKER_03: Um, many had tells of their heritage, such as very bendable limbs or slimy skin.
- 50:02SPEAKER_03: Oh, and they all have jaundice and they all have other standless syndrome.
- 50:07SPEAKER_03: They usually reeked, and most people would probably have called them utterly repulsive.
- 50:13SPEAKER_03: As a general rule, they had a hard time being charismatic with their lack in personal skills and stench.
- 50:19SPEAKER_03: But on the other hand, they were very sturdy and healthy.
- 50:22SPEAKER_02: I actually kind of feel sorry for these guys.
- 50:24SPEAKER_03: I know! They're just they're getting fucking dragged, don't they?
- 50:28SPEAKER_03: While the ice pair elements are talking about how pretty they are and they they got cool chill to their hair.
- 50:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and they're chiseled.
- 50:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 50:37SPEAKER_03: We go from chiseled to drooping.
- 50:40SPEAKER_02: God.
- 50:41SPEAKER_03: Um, their ancestor also gave them protection from acid as they grew in ability.
- 50:46SPEAKER_03: So did their ability to resist acid.
- 50:49SPEAKER_03: Um, they have the ability to use the grease spell just as a sorcerer once per day.
- 50:55SPEAKER_03: I'm sorry, I put that twice.
- 50:59SPEAKER_04: Did you?
- 51:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah, just ignore it.
- 51:01SPEAKER_04: Oh god, I feel so bad for these.
- 51:04SPEAKER_04: They're honestly, this entry is just they're just getting dunked on.
- 51:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 51:08SPEAKER_04: Like realistically.
- 51:09SPEAKER_04: Yikes.
- 51:10SPEAKER_03: So smoke per genasi are next, and they are tall and lenky, and uh reflecting both their air and fire ancestry.
- 51:20SPEAKER_03: Uh, they tend to have dark skin and hair and have unusual traits such as hair that bills like clouds of smoke, or the faint smell of something burning.
- 51:30unknown: Okay.
- 51:31SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 51:33SPEAKER_03: I see.
- 51:33SPEAKER_03: I see the mistake.
- 51:36SPEAKER_02: So the hair that bills like clouds sounds really fucking cool.
- 51:42SPEAKER_02: The faint smell of something burning, I mean, it kind of depends on what the burning is.
- 51:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah, like is it, is it, because okay, my immediate thought did go towards the kind of romantic, like candles burning?
- 51:55SPEAKER_04: Or like um, like campfire, like campfire smoke, you know what I mean?
- 51:59SPEAKER_04: But then I was immediately like, wait, but also, what if it smells like when you accidentally leave the hair straightener on one part of your hair for too long and you're just you're you just smell your hair burning just a little bit?
- 52:12SPEAKER_04: Oh god, the smell of burnt hair.
- 52:14SPEAKER_03: I would say it probably just smells like raw smoke.
- 52:17SPEAKER_03: Not like the smell of anything.
- 52:18SPEAKER_03: No, no, I think it smells like burning hair.
- 52:22SPEAKER_03: Uh so they prefer loose clothing in dark colors and heavy fabrics.
- 52:26SPEAKER_03: Uh smoked your perigenazi seem crude and lazy and tend toward neutrality.
- 52:32SPEAKER_03: They have a bonus on saving throws versus smoke and cloud type effects like stinking cloud and cloud kill, and can create a smoke cloud via spell once per day.
- 52:41SPEAKER_04: I I I feel like I feel like they're stoners.
- 52:45SPEAKER_04: Crude and lazy.
- 52:48SPEAKER_04: Perhaps.
- 52:49SPEAKER_04: Well, I when I say stoners, I mean like that stereotypical like smoking weed as a personality trait.
- 52:56SPEAKER_04: Stoners, you know what I mean.
- 53:00SPEAKER_03: Next up we have the steam paraginasi, which are the descendants of fire and water.
- 53:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay, yeah.
- 53:06SPEAKER_03: They're usually tall and slim and often weigh less than their appearance suggests.
- 53:10SPEAKER_03: Oh.
- 53:11SPEAKER_02: They are made of steam, so.
- 53:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 53:13SPEAKER_02: Well, I guess not made of steam, but yeah.
- 53:16SPEAKER_03: Right, right.
- 53:17SPEAKER_03: They have unusual traits such as wisps of mist constantly clinging to them, or gray skin tone, or hair.
- 53:23SPEAKER_03: Sweet.
- 53:24SPEAKER_03: Their clothing is usually loose, flowing, and gauzy.
- 53:27SPEAKER_03: They are bossy and egotistical.
- 53:30SPEAKER_03: Shady.
- 53:32SPEAKER_03: I mean, think about their ancestors real quick.
- 53:34SPEAKER_03: Think about it, right, right, right, right, right, right.
- 53:36SPEAKER_03: The Euphrates the Merits, right?
- 53:39SPEAKER_03: Um Steam Paraginasi often see themselves as superior to all other creatures, including the other Paraginasi.
- 53:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 53:47SPEAKER_04: I mean, that's I feel like that's a that's just a lot of races to honestly.
- 53:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 53:54SPEAKER_04: Like elves, dragons, genies.
- 53:57SPEAKER_04: Um everyone thinks that they're the best.
- 53:59SPEAKER_04: Uh no, gnomes do not.
- 54:02SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 54:02SPEAKER_04: That is true.
- 54:03SPEAKER_04: All gnomes shit.
- 54:05SPEAKER_04: All shitty races think that they're the best.
- 54:07SPEAKER_04: Hey, charges aren't shitty.
- 54:09SPEAKER_04: Uh, you know what I mean.
- 54:10SPEAKER_04: Some of them are.
- 54:11SPEAKER_04: Elves are shitty.
- 54:12SPEAKER_04: Also, gnomes.
- 54:14SPEAKER_04: Also, gnomes think I don't even know what they are, and I love them.
- 54:16SPEAKER_04: Also, gnomes think they're better at partying than everyone else because they are because they are.
- 54:22SPEAKER_03: Um, so they tend towards neutrality.
- 54:26SPEAKER_03: Steam Paraginasi can see through smoke, pog, etc., and have a racial bonus on saves versus heat, but not fire-based effects, and can cast obscuring mist once per day.
- 54:36SPEAKER_04: Okay, so they can like they can go into like the Gerudo Desert, but they can't go to Death Mountain scot-free.
- 54:42SPEAKER_04: Gotcha.
- 54:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 54:44SPEAKER_02: Um like uh heat metal would not work on them if you heated the weapon they were holding.
- 54:50SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 54:50SPEAKER_03: But if you cast fireball, it would hurt.
- 54:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 54:54SPEAKER_02: Fireball.
- 54:56SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 54:56SPEAKER_04: I didn't I didn't I didn't ask a room the bit that wow.
- 55:01SPEAKER_04: I didn't ask how big the room is.
- 55:03SPEAKER_04: I said I cast fireball.
- 55:06SPEAKER_04: I'm having a stroke.
- 55:08SPEAKER_03: I I've had to make it worse.
- 55:10SPEAKER_03: Oh no.
- 55:11SPEAKER_03: Um unfortunately we're here, folks.
- 55:14SPEAKER_03: Oh no.
- 55:15SPEAKER_03: Fourth edition kind of runs a lot.
- 55:19SPEAKER_02: Everyone put on your party hats.
- 55:21SPEAKER_02: It's time to roast some fourth edition.
- 55:23SPEAKER_03: Okay, you're four.
- 55:27SPEAKER_03: I understand that this was their first time.
- 55:29SPEAKER_03: Like they had to they felt like they had to restructure everything.
- 55:32SPEAKER_03: Wizards of the coast, you did not have to restructure everything.
- 55:34SPEAKER_03: I'm just saying that I think they learned, but we're still gonna shit on it.
- 55:38SPEAKER_03: But let them know they did not have to.
- 55:40SPEAKER_03: But they they they still thought that they were doing something.
- 55:44SPEAKER_03: And I can I can see little snippets of cool, but okay.
- 55:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and you know, I will say, I will say, at least they in this case, and I don't even know, but based on what you just said, at least they thought they were doing something.
- 55:58SPEAKER_04: Because sometimes fourth edition does nothing and still ruins it.
- 56:02SPEAKER_04: And so yeah, and they ruin it by doing Nassau so at least they're doing something.
- 56:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, exactly.
- 56:07SPEAKER_03: Okay, now so instead of the Janasi being descendant of a particular element, the Janasi are descendants of the elemental chaos.
- 56:17SPEAKER_03: Wait, so excuse me?
- 56:21SPEAKER_03: Uh humanoids infused with the energy of the elemental chaos.
- 56:26SPEAKER_04: So, wait.
- 56:28SPEAKER_04: Did the uh Did the Elemental Chaos fuck my mom?
- 56:33SPEAKER_04: Because my my my only okay, that was my or is it like an Anakin Skywalker?
- 56:38SPEAKER_04: I I I think it's I don't have an ancestor or an ancestor.
- 56:47SPEAKER_03: Yes, we figured it out, you guys.
- 56:49SPEAKER_03: The correct coach.
- 56:50SPEAKER_03: Okay, so I don't have any answers uh as for that.
- 56:54SPEAKER_03: Um at home strolling through the corridors of turning energy of the elemental chaos, they are they also delight in the burden forests of Feywild and the quaint cities of the world.
- 57:04SPEAKER_03: Among the Janasi are hot-blooded fire blades, adventuring sky spies, taciturn stone shields, and elemental dervishes, which tap the energy of their elemental heritage.
- 57:15SPEAKER_04: Okay, those are actually some I kind of Okay, the names are cool.
- 57:19SPEAKER_04: I kind of like some of those names.
- 57:20SPEAKER_04: Like I would like to be a Sky Spy, but also Um, I really do like literally the the the force, I mean the elemental chaos, like impregnated Shmi Skywalker, like out of nowhere, and made an Air Janasi.
- 57:37SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah.
- 57:37SPEAKER_03: Like that's the vibe.
- 57:38SPEAKER_03: Goodbye, Air Janasi.
- 57:40SPEAKER_03: Oh, what?
- 57:41SPEAKER_03: Janasi.
- 57:43SPEAKER_03: Just the Janasi.
- 57:45SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 57:47SPEAKER_03: That's it.
- 57:47SPEAKER_03: It's just Janasi.
- 57:50unknown: Okay.
- 57:50SPEAKER_03: Janasi have five types of manifestation: air soul, earth soul, fire soul, thunder soul, and water soul.
- 57:58SPEAKER_03: A genasi can only can usually manifest only one type.
- 58:02SPEAKER_05: Oh god.
- 58:03SPEAKER_03: Each manifestation bestows different powers and resistances.
- 58:06SPEAKER_04: And then, oh, and then once every the avatar's bored, guys.
- 58:13SPEAKER_04: And they can bend all four, I mean five elements.
- 58:16SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 58:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 58:17SPEAKER_04: Thunder was just thrown in there.
- 58:19SPEAKER_04: Don't worry about it.
- 58:20SPEAKER_04: Not even lightning.
- 58:21SPEAKER_04: They're not even trying to do a little final fantasy.
- 58:24SPEAKER_04: Like show the lightning and thunder.
- 58:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 58:26SPEAKER_03: Fuck you.
- 58:27SPEAKER_03: Um, genasi share personality traits based on their manifestations.
- 58:32SPEAKER_03: I mean, so many people.
- 58:33SPEAKER_03: And capricious.
- 58:35SPEAKER_03: Earth souls are stoic and cautious, fire souls are temperamental and impulsive, thunder souls are bold and proud, and water souls are amenable and friendly.
- 58:45SPEAKER_03: Some genasi can change their elemental manifestations or manifest multiple elements.
- 58:50SPEAKER_03: Janasi can channel their elemental manifestations through their weapons, creating blades of fire, ice, or lightning.
- 58:57SPEAKER_03: Janasi were originally servants of djinns, icrites, and other primordials.
- 59:01SPEAKER_03: In the elemental chaos, many Janasi still served primordials.
- 59:05SPEAKER_03: During the war between deities and primordials primordials, Janasi rebelled and gained freedom.
- 59:11SPEAKER_03: The primordials created Archons to replace them.
- 59:14SPEAKER_03: Okay, wait.
- 59:15SPEAKER_03: So Okay, so just Travis got around his microphone to look at me and show me his displeasure and decision.
- 59:26SPEAKER_04: Okay, so does okay, so does the does the elemental chaos like I don't know how they are created.
- 59:34SPEAKER_03: I have no clue.
- 59:35SPEAKER_03: I did tons of research on this.
- 59:37SPEAKER_03: Okay, so still don't know how they're created.
- 59:40SPEAKER_04: Okay, so it it's not even like a because okay, like say the um the um catastrophic dragons, for example, that were dragons that were touched by the elemental chaos.
- 59:53SPEAKER_04: No, I think no, I think they did, I think they did they did talk about their actual inception.
- 59:58SPEAKER_04: Because I know that like some it was some of them were like thrown in a volcano and reborn or whatever, which is it maybe it was stupid, but it was at least like something.
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_03: I think it's kind of just supposed to be that the chaos made them and just spits them out, yeah, into the elemental chaos.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_04: I I mean I I'm I think it's like humanoids.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_04: Sorry, I mean, just they sprung it they sprung fully formed from the elemental chaos's head.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_02: Oh wait.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_04: So that's that's more of a concrete backstory than that.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_02: So Marcons were made to replace them after they rebelled.
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it it does not make sense.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_02: No.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_03: Make it make sense.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_03: Uh well, it this is all they do make it make sense.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_02: Kind of.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_03: Kind of.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_03: I'm holding on for it.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_02: They backpedaled.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_03: Retcon as being part of the spell plague.
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_03: Yay! Spell plague! That's everyone's favorite trump card.
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_03: Um, after the spell plague, I mean, I don't know if you noticed this, but the second sundering is literally just Wizards of the Coast retconning all of their fuck-ups.
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_03: After the spell plague, the Taylor said in a sing song voice.
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_02: The spell plague is basically the same thing as your mom telling you to clean a room and you just shoving everything under the bed.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_03: No, that's the second sundering.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_02: The second thundering.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_03: Um so after the spell plague, when the separate elemental planes coalesced into the elemental chaos, each genasi gained the potential to manifest the power of any of the elements, though only one at a time.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_03: Oh, shut up.
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_04: That's some stupid that's some stupid video game.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_04: You can only do this at one time so you're not too OP.
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_04: Jesus fucking Christ.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_02: The genasium I hate, I hate prior to the spell plague, according to this retcon, existed as a race of no particular value or anything.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_03: No, that's prior to the retcon, um basically prior, prior to the spell plague, according to the retcon, um, the genasi existed as they always have, the descendants of a particular type of genie or elemental or what have you.
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_03: After spell plague, um, when all of the elemental plans combined, then they became these like separate.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_03: No, these co like these like combined genasi that were able to.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, because they're not even separate.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_02: Remember, they can just manifest.
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_03: Spell plague is the thing that fucks it up.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_03: Second sundering is the thing that fix it.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_03: So after the second sundering, when the elemental planes were restored, the genasi were once again separated into their four major races.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_03: That we discussed earlier.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_04: Okay, you know what?
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_04: Spell plague fucks it up.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_04: Second sundering fixes it.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_04: That was literally them being like, upgrade.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_04: Okay, the spell plague was them saying upgrade, except it wasn't an upgrade.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_04: And then the second sundering was them clicking the button that says, oh fuck, go back.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_03: She summarized it beautifully.
- 1:03:06SPEAKER_03: You know what?
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_02: Okay, good job, I guess.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_04: You try you tried.
- 1:03:11SPEAKER_04: You tried stickers.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you at least tried.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_04: They tried to, which, like I said, they tried to do something instead of other instances in fourth edition where they try to do nothing.
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_04: I really do have to give it to them.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_04: They really did try something.
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_03: There's something um.
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_04: They fucking tried something.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_02: Let me think.
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_02: I will say though, I'm not a terribly big fan of this thing that I see as we research more and more stuff that the spell plague is kind of used as a fix-all method.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_03: Well, it's the second sundering is used as the fix-all.
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_03: The spell plague is used to explain why things are messed up.
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that it's just a catch-all for catch-all.
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_04: That was the word I was looking for.
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_04: Catch-all.
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_04: That it's just kind of like it which don't get me wrong, like it makes sense that the spell plague did fuck everything up real bad.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_04: But there there is a certain point where it's kind of like it it almost feels like they're just sticking any size peg into that spell plague shape hole.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_04: You know what I mean?
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_04: Like just being like, oh, we need a convenient excuse for why this is this spell plague.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_04: I mean, which in some some instances it's a little like, okay.
- 1:04:22SPEAKER_03: And their defense, it's a I mean, they wrote a damn good reason for why.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, true.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_02: At least in this case, they did end up fixing it in a way that makes sense.
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_02: Whereas other times they just dropped it and we're like, nope, we don't know.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_03: Uh as we are talking about like things that fourth edition got right with this, uh, or at least got interesting.
- 1:04:47SPEAKER_03: Umasi in fourth edition uh bore a unique physical feature um that was not ever talked.
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_03: It it basically only exists in fourth edition.
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_03: Um, it's regardless of any of elemental manifestations, the body of each genasi is etched with strange lines of energy called Soldar in Primordial that glowed in color association associated with the element that the genasi was currently manifesting.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_03: Magic glowing tattoos! Yes, magic glowing tattoos.
- 1:05:17SPEAKER_03: They're like these beautiful circular.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_04: Although, I mean they're like etchings, but like magical glowing tattoos.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean they're they're really pretty.
- 1:05:25SPEAKER_03: Um, hold on, let me see if all I can think of is the house of night.
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean, but yeah.
- 1:05:32SPEAKER_02: Oh, oh, I just because of how their tattoos are described in the intricate way.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_02: Oh, I I just I need to go lie down.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_03: If you are near a computer and are safe to do so, you should Google and look at the images for S V U L D A R Soldar Okay look at the images because they are beautiful.
- 1:05:54SPEAKER_04: I need to go lie down because Travis just forced me to think about the House of Night boat series again.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_04: Against my will, and I was not prepared for that, and I need to go lie down.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_03: You're welcome.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_03: Um, in fact, I actually will probably send CJ a particular image to share.
- 1:06:09SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_03: Um, because it's I mean it's gorgeous.
- 1:06:13SPEAKER_03: I'll um I'll have to show them later.
- 1:06:16SPEAKER_03: But anyway, um that the the that funks.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_03: That can stay.
- 1:06:21SPEAKER_03: I like that.
- 1:06:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_03: Um the fire soul had fiery orange lines, uh storm soul with silver lines.
- 1:06:29SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, by the way, at some point the thunder soul becomes the storm soul.
- 1:06:33SPEAKER_03: It's weird.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_03: Um I mean okay, right.
- 1:06:36SPEAKER_03: The water soul has bright blue lines, uh, wind soul has light blue.
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_03: Right, the colors that you typically associate with those elders.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_03: Um lines and patterns were passed down along family lines, um, though the patterns could be similar between relatives, each was individual, kind of like a zebra.
- 1:06:56SPEAKER_03: Um they genasi would ex display them with pride.
- 1:07:01SPEAKER_03: Um, another good thing about fourth edition is that they led to these, um it led to this post-spell plague sense of uh union among the genasi that doesn't really exist in any of the other plain touch races.
- 1:07:15SPEAKER_03: Um, yeah, no, I yeah.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_03: The Janasi looked upon each other as uh potential relatives to the point where they would refer to any Janasi that they met as like brother, sister, or cousin.
- 1:07:27SPEAKER_03: Um okay, yeah.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_03: Uh family played a huge important role.
- 1:07:31SPEAKER_03: They started to have huge families, and um genasi parents went out of their way to ensure that their children had a chance to inherit basically the best life that they could and interact with other types of genasi.
- 1:07:45SPEAKER_03: And like they they basically post Bell Plague wanted to create their own communities, right, and their own like sort of overarching like genasi culture, yeah, as opposed to it feels like prior um instances they really just fucking hated each other, yeah.
- 1:08:05SPEAKER_03: Um okay, yeah, no, that yeah, okay.
- 1:08:09SPEAKER_03: As a fifth edition, we're back to the core for Genasi.
- 1:08:13SPEAKER_03: They're the offspring of genies and mortals.
- 1:08:15SPEAKER_03: Some genasi are born of mortal genie unions, others are uh have two genasi as parents, and a rare few have a genie further up the tree, it it manifests really late.
- 1:08:28SPEAKER_04: Okay, well that's kind of like it kind of that's kind of like how it um less for Osmar, if I remember correctly.
- 1:08:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:08:34SPEAKER_02: Kind of like acts as like a recessive gene.
- 1:08:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:08:37SPEAKER_04: Sometimes just like waiting, yeah.
- 1:08:40SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_03: Um there's also this chance for Genazi from exposure to a large surge of elemental power.
- 1:08:48SPEAKER_03: Um, though it's like it it even describes it as being rare.
- 1:08:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so that's like uh the force impregnate Shmi Skywalker.
- 1:08:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that that's the force impregnate Shmi Skywalker.
- 1:08:59SPEAKER_04: Gotcha.
- 1:09:00SPEAKER_03: Um elemental energy tends to saturate and might alter the nature of offspring of mortals exposed to such things.
- 1:09:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, that I mean, okay, and that makes me think of like nuclear energy.
- 1:09:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, and like I can I can vibe right.
- 1:09:15SPEAKER_04: I can vibe with that as long as that's like it is backed up in the source material as being like actually super duper rare.
- 1:09:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you know.
- 1:09:23SPEAKER_03: Like that's uh definitely ask your DM.
- 1:09:26SPEAKER_03: Um Genasi inherit a dual nature.
- 1:09:30SPEAKER_03: They resemble humans but have unusual skin color.
- 1:09:33SPEAKER_03: Red, green, blue, gray.
- 1:09:36SPEAKER_04: Uh, and there is something odd about them, which would be the unusual traits of like the the with like the wispy billowing hair, yeah, the constantly sweating for some reason.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_04: Wait, the the like unusually hot skin or like cold, cold, like clammy skin, yada yada.
- 1:09:56SPEAKER_03: The element um mensal blood usually manifests differently, so no genasi is gonna look like a like the exactly the same as another.
- 1:10:04SPEAKER_04: So it's not like to say that all say like all fire genosity are like unusually super duper hot.
- 1:10:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:10:11SPEAKER_04: Or well, temperature-wise.
- 1:10:12SPEAKER_04: They're I mean they're they're all descended from genies, so they're all hot, you know.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_04: Exactly.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_03: But you know, that kind of um those of earth and water descent tend to be heavier, while those of air and fire tend to be lighter.
- 1:10:25SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 1:10:25SPEAKER_04: Um yeah, you'd like pick up your super tall, like buff fire genasi friend, and it's like, oh, I should not be able to do that.
- 1:10:32SPEAKER_03: This uh fifth edition actually um it makes a point to refer to ancestors as mortal and elemental.
- 1:10:39SPEAKER_03: So it actually says that they would yeah, that they would inherit features from their mortal ancestors.
- 1:10:45SPEAKER_03: So pointed ears for an elf, stockier frame for a dwarf, uh small hands and feet for halflings, and exceedingly large eyes for a gnome.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:10:55SPEAKER_02: Dude, I want to play a gnome genasi now.
- 1:10:58SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:11:00SPEAKER_04: Oh, oh, I'm having oh, I'm having so many ideas.
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_04: Oh baby.
- 1:11:04SPEAKER_03: Um again, genies really don't feel much for their offspring.
- 1:11:08SPEAKER_03: They're very fickle beings.
- 1:11:10SPEAKER_03: Um, they kind of see them as accidents, which really sucks.
- 1:11:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:11:14SPEAKER_03: Maybe feel nothing for them at all.
- 1:11:16SPEAKER_03: I mean, that's not that different.
- 1:11:18SPEAKER_05: Oh, oof.
- 1:11:20SPEAKER_05: Oof.
- 1:11:21SPEAKER_03: Um, some Genazi live as outcasts, driven into exile for being kind of unsettling and strange magic, etc.
- 1:11:27SPEAKER_03: etc.
- 1:11:28SPEAKER_03: Right, right.
- 1:11:28SPEAKER_03: Um, others gain positions of influence, especially where elemental beings are revered.
- 1:11:33SPEAKER_04: Right, yeah, because I I feel like it can it can be a harsh contrast between like, okay, yeah, this this child is like has like bright red skin and can breathe fire, get it out.
- 1:11:46SPEAKER_04: Or alternatively, like, this is like a blessing or like an omen or something.
- 1:11:50SPEAKER_03: Interestingly enough, um, fifth edition does actually have mention of genasi that end up fleeing the material plane and actually finding refuge with their genie parent.
- 1:12:01SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:12:02SPEAKER_04: Yeah, because I feel like in the the modern day, by the time we get to fifth edition, I feel like in general, especially for um like the very like very intelligent creatures like genies, um, I feel like it's gotten to a point where for the most part, in a lot of cases, it's sort of they're not as beholden to alignments or particular um like this is the common psychological profile for say if rite or whatever.
- 1:12:35SPEAKER_04: And you know, like a psychological profile, societal values, what have you.
- 1:12:39SPEAKER_04: So you I feel like by fifth edition, it's kind of like you definitely have wiggle room to be like especially I would see in the case of like gin, maybe marids, that they would be like their their like 17-year-old kid would like roll up to their windy doorstep and be like, Yeah, you can crash here, sure.
- 1:12:58SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah, for sure.
- 1:12:59SPEAKER_04: And then it's like an awkward like never met their kid, like trying to bond with their kid, like father and son going out and playing catch with the R Cokra.
- 1:13:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you know, kind of kind of thing.
- 1:13:11SPEAKER_04: But I feel like by this point it's it's less beholden to like, yes, they are always this alignment, always this way, they never do this, you know what I mean?
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_03: Um, real quick, I just want to mention um this funny note that I found, which was um in second, third, and fifth edition of DD, they were all in agreement that Janasi displayed one or two signs of their elemental heritage.
- 1:13:33SPEAKER_03: However, many artists chose to depict Janasi and sort the source books that have shown them with far more elemental traits than described in the text.
- 1:13:43SPEAKER_03: Which is to say, anybody who ever creates a Janasi is like, fuck source material.
- 1:13:49SPEAKER_03: I want to look like an element.
- 1:13:53SPEAKER_04: Right, yeah.
- 1:13:53SPEAKER_04: I did note I have noticed that actually, I feel like, because I feel like a lot of the art I've seen of Janasi, like I feel like a lot of the art I've seen of Janasi, they literally just look straight up like genies, honestly.
- 1:14:05SPEAKER_04: They look like more slightly more human-y genies.
- 1:14:08SPEAKER_04: Yeah, like basically.
- 1:14:09SPEAKER_04: But the source material, it definitely sounds like they're like, yeah, you have like one or two, but the art is like you have all of them.
- 1:14:16SPEAKER_03: And I I love that actually.
- 1:14:18SPEAKER_03: I love that artists and like specifically also like DMs and like um players have been like, I appreciate that you told me one or two, but I pick all.
- 1:14:28SPEAKER_03: Mm-hmm.
- 1:14:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:14:30SPEAKER_03: I mean because it just it looks like it looks cooler.
- 1:14:33SPEAKER_03: I don't want to play watered down human.
- 1:14:36SPEAKER_03: I want to play something cool.
- 1:14:39SPEAKER_04: Watered down genie.
- 1:14:40SPEAKER_04: I mean, I was gonna say, isn't that essentially what like a water ginasi is?
- 1:14:44SPEAKER_04: Is a watered down human.
- 1:14:45SPEAKER_04: Oh Jesus.
- 1:14:47SPEAKER_04: Anyway, that's it.
- 1:14:48SPEAKER_04: That's all I got.
- 1:14:50SPEAKER_04: I mean, that's a lot.
- 1:14:52SPEAKER_04: That's still a lot, yeah.
- 1:14:54SPEAKER_02: So, uh, thank you everyone so much for listening to this fantastical ginasi genie mortal trip.
- 1:15:03SPEAKER_04: Whatever that is.
- 1:15:04SPEAKER_04: Oh god.
- 1:15:05SPEAKER_04: I made a gesture with my hands.
- 1:15:07SPEAKER_04: Um I I'm tasking everyone to go make like an elf genasi and a gnome genasi.
- 1:15:14SPEAKER_04: Travis is assigned a task.
- 1:15:15SPEAKER_04: You've been assigned a task.
- 1:15:17SPEAKER_04: You are a task genie now.
- 1:15:20SPEAKER_04: Damn.
- 1:15:20SPEAKER_04: Callback.
- 1:15:21SPEAKER_04: Ooh shit, callback.
- 1:15:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah, don't worry.
- 1:15:24SPEAKER_04: Travis has got the gnome genasi.
- 1:15:26SPEAKER_04: He's got that covered.
- 1:15:27SPEAKER_02: But yeah, instantly.
- 1:15:28SPEAKER_02: Done.
- 1:15:29SPEAKER_04: Done.
- 1:15:30SPEAKER_04: Concepts.
- 1:15:30SPEAKER_04: He's got four types of gnome genasi.
- 1:15:32SPEAKER_04: It's gonna be great.
- 1:15:34SPEAKER_04: That's so good though.
- 1:15:35SPEAKER_04: That I I'm still stuck on that.
- 1:15:37SPEAKER_04: That they're like, yeah, you can you can have like an elf genasi, gnome genasi, yeah, whatever, whatever, dwarf genasi.

- 1:16:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah, listen, I was trying to make it topical with the subject matter, and then it got Jeannie's getting away with avoiding child support payments is a real issue.
