- 0:02Speaker 1: This is college football with Stugatz and the Bear.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Now it's go time.
- 0:07Speaker 1: T-Bob is with us. Wake up, barstool.
- 0:09Speaker 3: And then at the time of greatest triumph, I want
- 0:12Speaker 3: to suck from the cup of their tears.
- 0:14Speaker 4: I want to watch their women.
- 0:16Speaker 3: And children writhing on the ground. Everything that is precious
- 0:20Speaker 3: to Ole Miss, everything they pray for when they lay
- 0:22Speaker 3: their head down at night and they talk to their creator,
- 0:25Speaker 3: you want to take all of that and you want
- 0:27Speaker 3: to melt it in front of their faces and pour
- 0:29Speaker 3: it back down their throat and execute them.
- 0:32Speaker 1: I mean, who cares?
- 0:33Speaker 5: What, are you kidding me?
- 0:35Speaker 3: If I heard somebody utter those words, I would throw
- 0:38Speaker 3: them out the second story of the football life.
- 0:41Speaker 1: I love you boys. The College Football Show with Stugatz
- 0:45Speaker 1: and Baer. And there's T-Bob again. We also have Mario Cristobal,
- 0:51Speaker 1: the head coach at the University of Miami. I have
- 0:53Speaker 1: known this man for a long time. He is a
- 0:56Speaker 1: staple down here in Miami. Mario, thank you for joining us.
- 0:59Speaker 1: What I love about what you're doing at the University
- 1:03Speaker 1: of Miami, I know how much that school means to you.
- 1:06Speaker 1: I know how much the city means to you. I
- 1:08Speaker 1: know how much that program means to you. And to
- 1:11Speaker 1: see the pride, I love it, to see the pride
- 1:14Speaker 1: on your face, to be the guy who is bringing
- 1:16Speaker 1: the U back to glory is fantastic to see. And
- 1:20Speaker 1: so I know you're feeling it, and I am wondering
- 1:24Speaker 1: how much pride you do take in being the head
- 1:26Speaker 1: coach of the University of Miami Hurricane football program.
- 1:32Speaker 6: Well, first off, thanks for having me on the show.
- 1:34Speaker 6: Really appreciate you guys doing that. And I would say
- 1:37Speaker 6: I have a lot of pride in being a Miami Hurricane,
- 1:40Speaker 6: and I have just as much pride as being part
- 1:42Speaker 6: of this team, this collection of people that have worked
- 1:45Speaker 6: really hard, that we all shared a vision, and we
- 1:49Speaker 6: all were willing to take the hits and go through
- 1:51Speaker 6: the painful steps that go with a rebuild, keeping in
- 1:55Speaker 6: mind and knowing that Miami should look a certain way
- 1:58Speaker 6: and that we're making a lot of progress. So I
- 2:01Speaker 6: have a lot of pride in knowing that I owe Miami,
- 2:04Speaker 6: the University of Miami, as a former Hurricane, and that
- 2:08Speaker 6: a lot of pride in the fact that the appetite
- 2:10Speaker 6: and the hunger and the drive right now is at
- 2:12Speaker 6: an all-time high and getting stronger, so we just got
- 2:15Speaker 6: a lot of work to do.
- 2:18Speaker 5: I figured I'd just start right away with asking for
- 2:20Speaker 5: an exact, detailed update on the injury report and everyone
- 2:25Speaker 5: that is injured right now. Kidding aside, how hard is
- 2:30Speaker 5: it as a coach and being on that sideline to
- 2:33Speaker 5: just be like, what the hell is going on? Is
- 2:36Speaker 5: guys just continue to get nicked up and hurt? Your
- 2:39Speaker 5: team has an unbelievable, like a resolve that I've never seen.
- 2:43Speaker 5: I know it's cliche to say next man up, but
- 2:47Speaker 5: everybody who, whether guys got out, guys come in and
- 2:50Speaker 5: replace and play well. I mean, that says a ton
- 2:53Speaker 5: to me about the culture in your program.
- 2:56Speaker 4: Well, I appreciate you seeing that. It's difficult.
- 2:59Speaker 6: It really is hard. There's no, you know, just like
- 3:02Speaker 6: our program, there aren't any slogans on the walls. We
- 3:04Speaker 6: don't go in there and slogan it up and try
- 3:06Speaker 6: to cliche it up.
- 3:07Speaker 4: Like it sucks. And it's hard to deal with this.
- 3:10Speaker 6: And especially with a group of people that love winning,
- 3:12Speaker 6: like these guys love winning. And I think they showed
- 3:14Speaker 6: that because they popped back in the game when, you know,
- 3:17Speaker 6: probably most wouldn't.
- 3:18Speaker 4: So.
- 3:19Speaker 6: And at the same time, you know, you always assess
- 3:21Speaker 6: and analyze, man, what, you know, how can anything be prevented?
- 3:24Speaker 6: Is there a common thread here? And it was the
- 3:27Speaker 6: most successful and healthiest offseason we had had. And we
- 3:30Speaker 6: were very mindful of having a deep run last year.
- 3:33Speaker 6: So it's hard to pinpoint why it happens. But I
- 3:36Speaker 6: do believe just as people, as players, as an organization, coaches,
- 3:41Speaker 6: that we're dealing with it as well as we can.
- 3:43Speaker 6: And we are optimistic that some guys will be able
- 3:46Speaker 6: to return. And the other part, too, Bear is like,
- 3:50Speaker 6: we went right at the guys that have been recruited
- 3:52Speaker 6: and let's call it what it is now. Nowadays, you know, people,
- 3:56Speaker 6: you earn a living, you're getting paid to be a
- 3:58Speaker 6: college football player, like.
- 4:01Speaker 4: Trying to earn your damn money.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Okay.
- 4:02Speaker 6: There is no, you're not going to inherit a position
- 4:05Speaker 6: because somebody gets hurt. You're going to be able to
- 4:09Speaker 6: step in because you've prepared your ass off like a
- 4:11Speaker 6: mature pro and you're ready.
- 4:13Speaker 4: To take the moment on.
- 4:14Speaker 6: I pointed out Booker Pickett this morning to our team
- 4:16Speaker 6: and how he stepped in and did a phenomenal job.
- 4:20Speaker 4: And so did Ryan Mack, you know?
- 4:22Speaker 6: And so, you know, there's a lot of pride in
- 4:26Speaker 6: performance and there's more, I don't know. The team becomes
- 4:32Speaker 6: more and more galvanized with some of these hits and
- 4:35Speaker 6: the green tree is starting to really show up on
- 4:37Speaker 6: game day. I want to say green tree guys, that's
- 4:39Speaker 6: our practice field, green tree practice field, which is, you know,
- 4:43Speaker 6: decades and decades of elite players, you know, Iron sharpens
- 4:48Speaker 6: iron took place out there.
- 4:50Speaker 4: That green tree is starting to show more and more.
- 4:51Speaker 4: And we're not very good at a lot of things.
- 4:53Speaker 4: So we have a lot of work to do. Yeah.
- 4:56Speaker 7: As you alluded to their green tree, a lot of
- 4:59Speaker 7: legendary stories. Remember Art Kehoe back in the day, tell
- 5:03Speaker 7: me stories about Warren Sapp ripping face masks off and whatnot.
- 5:07Speaker 2: And, um, You guys approach.
- 5:11Speaker 7: The game right now, Mario, with a, you mentioned the toughness,
- 5:16Speaker 7: the discipline.
- 5:19Speaker 2: What is a Tuesday practice like?
- 5:21Speaker 7: Because we live in a day and age where, I
- 5:24Speaker 7: don't know, practices seem to be getting lighter, maybe more
- 5:27Speaker 7: pro in some ways. Nobody wants to hit anymore. Take
- 5:31Speaker 7: me through the practice week, Tuesday, Wednesday. Are we full pads?
- 5:34Speaker 7: What's the nature of those practices?
- 5:35Speaker 4: Yeah, there are.
- 5:37Speaker 6: Their camp practices there. And, and, you know, look, we're
- 5:41Speaker 6: mindful of a guy's banged up and he can't go.
- 5:43Speaker 6: Maybe we prevent some of those types of repetitions for them,
- 5:49Speaker 6: but not for the entire team.
- 5:50Speaker 4: Absolutely not.
- 5:51Speaker 6: I mean, if someone, if that person can't do it
- 5:53Speaker 6: by Tuesday, Wednesday, I think we're kidding ourselves to think
- 5:57Speaker 6: that a college player can miss an entire week and,
- 5:59Speaker 6: you know, be able to play at.
- 6:01Speaker 4: His best on Saturday. Um, but, Yeah, they're intense.
- 6:06Speaker 6: One thing that we won't do, we won't brag about
- 6:08Speaker 6: like being super tough and having this and that. We
- 6:12Speaker 6: just want to keep our mouth shut, work our asses off,
- 6:16Speaker 6: be extremely physical during the week.
- 6:18Speaker 4: And then let it show on Saturday.
- 6:20Speaker 6: And then let that do the talking for the types
- 6:23Speaker 6: of practices that we have. But we believe in them.
- 6:25Speaker 6: They're extremely physical and regimented, but I think everybody's is.
- 6:31Speaker 6: We just, I don't know. We don't, we're very... Private, man,
- 6:35Speaker 6: we don't like proclaiming much. I think that's not.
- 6:41Speaker 4: For me, man.
- 6:42Speaker 5: You mentioned private, and the other night in the Clemson game,
- 6:46Speaker 5: late in the game, after the Dunagan pick six, there
- 6:51Speaker 5: was a little bit of a screen grab that went
- 6:52Speaker 5: around our Miami chat, and it caught you with a
- 6:55Speaker 5: big smile.
- 6:56Speaker 4: On your face. That was AI. That was AI.
- 6:58Speaker 2: That was AI. Coach, it's okay to be human.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Good defense. Look at you, people.
- 7:04Speaker 5: People don't people see you as ex-player offensive lineman face
- 7:08Speaker 5: steel uh dedication grind one and oh but that was
- 7:12Speaker 5: a little insight at how much that that play uh
- 7:15Speaker 5: by jj and that win at clemson and how you
- 7:18Speaker 5: guys just emerged from everything then along that night you
- 7:20Speaker 5: know you know what you came out with.
- 7:21Speaker 6: A big win well you know we were um i
- 7:25Speaker 6: think it was 34 to 13 at the time and
- 7:28Speaker 6: We were, as a staff, we were going at each
- 7:31Speaker 6: other on the sideline because we were trying to get
- 7:32Speaker 6: personnel in and J.J. was still on the sideline. And
- 7:35Speaker 6: we didn't want, we wanted to play to the standard
- 7:37Speaker 6: all the way to the end of the game. And
- 7:39Speaker 6: we thought that was really important for our players to
- 7:41Speaker 6: see our levels of intensity just sustain itself all the
- 7:44Speaker 6: way through. And we finally get him out there. He
- 7:47Speaker 6: starts running out there as we're making the call. He
- 7:49Speaker 6: gets the call. We're in man. He follows him. We
- 7:51Speaker 6: get pressure. It's like, just like you draw it up, right?
- 7:54Speaker 6: Catch the ball and run to the end. So it was,
- 7:58Speaker 6: it was almost a moment like, well, you know, that's
- 8:01Speaker 6: a great reason why you do your best to recruit
- 8:04Speaker 6: the right dudes.
- 8:05Speaker 1: You yelled cafecito. So I am wondering the best place
- 8:09Speaker 1: to get Cuban coffee in Miami. Where does Mario go?
- 8:13Speaker 4: It's my house. I think you'll find great places on
- 8:18Speaker 4: a street.
- 8:18Speaker 6: I think Casa cool right here around the corner.
- 8:21Speaker 4: It's phenomenal. Pinecrest Bakery is great.
- 8:25Speaker 6: Just about every restaurant has succumbed to the fact that
- 8:28Speaker 6: you better have it or your clientele is going to
- 8:31Speaker 6: go somewhere else to get it.
- 8:33Speaker 4: But I do think we make the best coffee here.
- 8:38Speaker 1: When's the last time you paid for coffee in Miami?
- 8:43Speaker 4: I kind of don't go anywhere.
- 8:46Speaker 6: There's... I mean, there's not much free time. Last time
- 8:54Speaker 6: I paid for coffee.
- 8:56Speaker 4: I believe in that. I believe in paying. I believe
- 8:58Speaker 4: in tipping. All right. Well, you know, I don't know.
- 9:02Speaker 4: I don't know. Why shouldn't it?
- 9:06Speaker 1: I'm just guessing.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Listen, you're a hurricane legend.
- 9:10Speaker 4: I know the bear.
- 9:11Speaker 1: You're a hurricane legend and you're the head coach of
- 9:14Speaker 1: the game. They want to give you the coffee for free.
- 9:16Speaker 1: I promise you. I'm just telling you.
- 9:19Speaker 6: Brother, you know what's awesome? I was born and raised here.
- 9:21Speaker 6: I say it all the time. It's not like I
- 9:24Speaker 6: know every street corner and shortcut. I don't need a GPS.
- 9:28Speaker 6: I know the cracks on the street corner. I know
- 9:30Speaker 6: the stuff. I like I am familiar.
- 9:33Speaker 4: Like it's in my DM. I have it all in here.
- 9:36Speaker 6: And I run into people that sometimes I haven't seen
- 9:39Speaker 6: in 20, 25 years. And sometimes, you know, old teammates
- 9:43Speaker 6: and classmates.
- 9:44Speaker 4: And it's, it's awesome. I don't get out much. I'm like,
- 9:47Speaker 4: you know, almost like a social moron.
- 9:49Speaker 6: I just, you know, all of a sudden you're running
- 9:50Speaker 6: into people, but what's awesome to see is the level
- 9:54Speaker 6: of energy and pride and enthusiasm right now behind the canes.
- 9:58Speaker 6: Cause that was really, you know, uh, like my brother
- 10:00Speaker 6: said back in, you know, 22 right before coming over
- 10:03Speaker 6: when he was, he was after my ass saying, what
- 10:05Speaker 6: are you waiting for to come down here? You know,
- 10:07Speaker 6: if you're, Ass don't come down to who the F
- 10:10Speaker 6: is going to do it.
- 10:10Speaker 4: He's just ripping my ass. I'm like, dude, what's your problem?
- 10:13Speaker 2: I was saying the same thing.
- 10:16Speaker 6: So it's kind of neat to see us getting better
- 10:17Speaker 6: and better. But also that we acknowledge that we have
- 10:21Speaker 6: a ways to go. But the progress is like, again,
- 10:25Speaker 6: the hunger and the appetite is strong. So mouth shut,
- 10:28Speaker 6: working hard. Let's just go get better.
- 10:29Speaker 4: All right.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Don't go anywhere.
- 10:31Speaker 7: We got more Coach Cristobal coming up right after this break.
- 10:59Speaker 7: Welcome back to the show. We're still here with Coach Cristobal.
- 11:02Speaker 7: I think I know how you're going to answer this,
- 11:05Speaker 7: but I have to tell myself, you've.
- 11:09Speaker 2: Dealt with many like me, flies on your neck, right? Naysayers.
- 11:15Speaker 2: sitting there saying he can't do it. This guy's not there.
- 11:18Speaker 3: Well, you look, you may be, you may need a
- 11:20Speaker 3: lot of crow the last few years, right? I've had
- 11:22Speaker 3: to come all the way over and you've done it
- 11:24Speaker 3: because of your actions, right?
- 11:25Speaker 2: You've earned it. That, that, that, that this works that,
- 11:28Speaker 2: you know, you have success.
- 11:29Speaker 7: Um, do you, does any of that motivate you when
- 11:34Speaker 7: people tell you, you can't, does any of that motivate
- 11:37Speaker 7: you or do you find that motivation elsewhere?
- 11:39Speaker 6: I don't, I just, I don't find any value in,
- 11:44Speaker 6: like humans, like just spewing diarrhea out of their mouth.
- 11:49Speaker 4: I just, no offense.
- 11:53Speaker 6: I just, I think, I think that, I mean, we
- 11:57Speaker 6: all know the most abused constitutional right is the first amendment, right?
- 12:00Speaker 4: I mean, people just spew and spew.
- 12:02Speaker 6: And, I just, I just, I don't, I don't think
- 12:05Speaker 6: that is, that's like a shallow pool of fuel and energy.
- 12:08Speaker 6: I don't think there's any value. I never got up
- 12:11Speaker 6: in the morning and say, man, I'm just cause this
- 12:12Speaker 6: guy said this, I can give a rat's fat ass
- 12:15Speaker 6: about what he says or does. I thank God for incredible,
- 12:20Speaker 6: insanely hardworking, almost borderline psychotic parents about doing the right
- 12:25Speaker 6: thing and, and doing right by people. And, um, and
- 12:29Speaker 6: blessed to have, um, to have a purpose of very
- 12:32Speaker 6: clearly defines just nonstop, relentless purpose.
- 12:36Speaker 4: And, you know, I just want to, I want to
- 12:39Speaker 4: get after it, you know, you know, unless someone, you know.
- 12:41Speaker 6: Gets my face and has a problem and says something, then,
- 12:45Speaker 6: you know, I'll stop there before I get myself in trouble.
- 12:48Speaker 4: But you know what I mean? No, we want to, we,
- 12:52Speaker 4: we are, we are.
- 12:53Speaker 6: Completely committed and motivated and self-motivated self-starters to make sure
- 13:00Speaker 6: that Miami becomes the absolute best it could possibly be.
- 13:04Speaker 5: And the self-motivation I think comes from the team. I
- 13:06Speaker 5: mentioned the Clemson game the other night. And after the game,
- 13:10Speaker 5: you hear guys talking about, oh, we left 14 points
- 13:13Speaker 5: on the board here. I missed an assignment here on defense.
- 13:17Speaker 5: And again, I think your team kind of lives a
- 13:20Speaker 5: little bit in the reflection of you in that sense. I,
- 13:23Speaker 5: you know what I, what I, um, you know, you
- 13:25Speaker 5: end up finding out in the middle of the year,
- 13:27Speaker 5: how do you feel about each other?
- 13:28Speaker 6: Right. How a team feels about a coach, a coach
- 13:30Speaker 6: feels about a team. Cause you got to work things out.
- 13:32Speaker 4: It's like, it's no different than any other relationship. Right.
- 13:35Speaker 6: And, um, and one of the reasons I love this team,
- 13:38Speaker 6: they just, they love winning, man. And I do think
- 13:41Speaker 6: that we're all understanding that there's nothing or nobody that
- 13:45Speaker 6: we can like get in the way of that. And
- 13:48Speaker 6: I can, I can be me and I'm not exactly,
- 13:51Speaker 6: you know, um, I don't know. We all have our
- 13:58Speaker 6: flaws and our issues, but they can be them. I
- 14:00Speaker 6: can be me and we could be us together. And
- 14:03Speaker 6: I think we understand each other that we're going to
- 14:05Speaker 6: get after it. It's going to be intense, but it's
- 14:07Speaker 6: never personal.
- 14:08Speaker 4: There's a business side.
- 14:09Speaker 6: And then when the horn blows and practice over, then
- 14:11Speaker 6: the personal side begins and class and life and making
- 14:14Speaker 6: sure we do the best by these dudes as it
- 14:16Speaker 6: relates to everything.
- 14:17Speaker 4: So we're continuing to grow and develop.
- 14:21Speaker 7: Coach, I mean, just from talking to you, I can
- 14:23Speaker 7: already tell where the Miami culture starts in terms of intensity,
- 14:29Speaker 7: work ethic, like you're talking about, the kind of intrinsic motivation.
- 14:33Speaker 2: But we live in a day and age.
- 14:34Speaker 7: Where you're bringing in entirely new rosters every year, almost
- 14:38Speaker 7: like an NFL level in a lot of ways, right?
- 14:41Speaker 7: So what are your– because you've really handled this transition
- 14:45Speaker 7: of the game seamlessly, and you've risen to the top here,
- 14:48Speaker 7: and your teams are consistently performing– What are your processes?
- 14:52Speaker 2: Is it players? Is it coach?
- 14:54Speaker 7: How are you able to maintain a culture when the,
- 14:58Speaker 7: the faces kind of keep changing within that culture?
- 15:01Speaker 4: No, it's all about people and it's all about being
- 15:03Speaker 4: relentless with it. You know, um, Dr.
- 15:05Speaker 6: Kevin Elko always says, Hey, get on it and stay
- 15:07Speaker 6: on it. That's what great teachers do. You know, you're
- 15:09Speaker 6: going to get it over a long period of time.
- 15:11Speaker 6: All of a sudden, I know it's an oxymoron, but
- 15:14Speaker 6: there's a lot of value to that. Like, you know, it, um,
- 15:19Speaker 6: what's the best way to put this.
- 15:22Speaker 4: You know at some point in time um everyone.
- 15:24Speaker 6: Identifies with a group right uh culture or whatever and
- 15:29Speaker 6: we try to be very clear up front like we
- 15:31Speaker 6: bring recruits prospects whatever to watch us practice so they
- 15:35Speaker 6: know what they're getting into this is going to be
- 15:37Speaker 6: like turned up cranked up full throttle so don't come.
- 15:40Speaker 4: Here and all of a sudden say well you know
- 15:42Speaker 4: i'm a Does that still exist? Valley Scandinavian?
- 15:49Speaker 1: Yeah, I believe it's still there for now.
- 15:50Speaker 4: So yeah, it's all about the people. It really is.
- 15:56Speaker 6: And it's about making it clear that we are going
- 15:58Speaker 6: to push and challenge each other so that we can galvanize,
- 16:02Speaker 6: so we can.
- 16:03Speaker 4: Get to that edge.
- 16:04Speaker 6: And when we get to that edge, it's our job
- 16:06Speaker 6: to make sure we have a breakthrough as opposed to
- 16:09Speaker 6: a breakdown. That's when you can find next levels within yourself,
- 16:13Speaker 6: within your team. When someone looks at you and Zion
- 16:21Speaker 6: is a real thing. It's not a shirt. It's not
- 16:23Speaker 6: a slogan. It's not a, you know, there's no slogans
- 16:26Speaker 6: on the wall. There's no, there's no bullshit. You know,
- 16:28Speaker 6: I don't, and we don't proclaim to know everything and
- 16:31Speaker 6: we don't pound our chest and all that stuff. We just,
- 16:35Speaker 6: we believe in the work. We believe in continuing assessing
- 16:38Speaker 6: ourselves and doing whatever is better. And we'll meet with people,
- 16:42Speaker 6: get ideas and just keep growing and developing. We do,
- 16:45Speaker 6: we do believe this. And this was what keeps us going.
- 16:48Speaker 6: That sky's the limit at Miami. Sky's the limit, and
- 16:51Speaker 6: we just got to keep pushing.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Coach, I know you love Michael Irvin. I love Michael Irvin.
- 16:55Speaker 1: I'm just wondering, at any point, at any time during
- 16:57Speaker 1: a game, have you had to turn to Michael and say, Michael,
- 17:00Speaker 1: you know what? Just not now. Not now. I'm trying
- 17:02Speaker 1: to coach. I'm trying to do something. You're too emotional.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Just stop.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Have you had to do that?
- 17:07Speaker 4: Just that one sweaty cheek kiss.
- 17:09Speaker 2: After that game.
- 17:14Speaker 4: Like, man. No, but no. Mike Irvin is an elite teammate,
- 17:19Speaker 4: an elite brother.
- 17:20Speaker 6: And someone that, you know, I was coming in as
- 17:22Speaker 6: a freshman as he was leaving, but he still was
- 17:24Speaker 6: so present among the team.
- 17:25Speaker 4: And, you know, we had that 91 reunion, which he
- 17:29Speaker 4: was already gone.
- 17:29Speaker 6: But when you come across, when you're in Miami Hurricane,
- 17:33Speaker 6: you experience what that's like.
- 17:35Speaker 4: Right.
- 17:36Speaker 6: Brother, we're from all different parts of the planet. I mean,
- 17:39Speaker 6: different skin colors, ethnicities, languages. But that locker room, the
- 17:43Speaker 6: first three weeks are frightening because the competition is so
- 17:46Speaker 6: thick and so just relentlessly just physical and physical.
- 17:50Speaker 4: Whatnot.
- 17:51Speaker 6: But man, when that, when that switch takes place and
- 17:54Speaker 6: you start doing this, it just, it's a life changer.
- 17:57Speaker 6: You know, it's why I love being a Miami hurricane.
- 17:58Speaker 6: It's why I'm back here. I was given, when I
- 18:01Speaker 6: was given approval, it's the honor of coming back. And
- 18:04Speaker 6: now Mike is, Mike is good, man. You know, he
- 18:06Speaker 6: still looks like he can play. He's got a ton
- 18:07Speaker 6: of energy and no, he is, he hasn't grabbed the
- 18:10Speaker 6: headset yet.
- 18:11Speaker 4: So we're all good.
- 18:13Speaker 1: You've seen all the great ones at Miami. You've played
- 18:15Speaker 1: with them. You've coached some of them. Where does Malachi
- 18:18Speaker 1: Toney rank for you in terms of all-time Miami Hurricanes?
- 18:21Speaker 1: That kid is so talented, Coach.
- 18:22Speaker 6: I think the worst thing we could do is start
- 18:24Speaker 6: ranking them before that that book is completed. He's in chapter,
- 18:31Speaker 6: last year he had, what, 16 chapters?
- 18:33Speaker 4: Is that right? 16 chapters. He's on chapter five of
- 18:36Speaker 4: the season.
- 18:37Speaker 6: When the last chapter is written and it's closed, I
- 18:40Speaker 6: think that's when you do so.
- 18:42Speaker 4: I mean, I don't, I really don't, I don't, and
- 18:46Speaker 4: I don't judge anybody that does.
- 18:47Speaker 6: I just don't find a lot of value in reflecting
- 18:49Speaker 6: and writing now.
- 18:52Speaker 4: I don't know what it does except fill your head
- 18:54Speaker 4: with you know, the wrong kind of stuff.
- 18:56Speaker 1: Is it fair to say, I'll try it this way,
- 18:57Speaker 1: is it fair to say he's as talented as anyone
- 19:00Speaker 1: who's ever played there? Is that fair?
- 19:03Speaker 4: You won't give me that.
- 19:06Speaker 6: I think he's absolutely awesome, and he's on his way
- 19:09Speaker 6: to levels that could possibly never be matched, you know,
- 19:12Speaker 6: until the next great one. But I think the best
- 19:14Speaker 6: part about Malachi Toney is that he couldn't care less
- 19:18Speaker 6: about an accolade, praise, or something like that. That dude
- 19:21Speaker 6: just wants to get better. He wants to win, and
- 19:23Speaker 6: he is... the most unbelievable blocker at wide receiver I've
- 19:28Speaker 6: ever seen. That guy has no fear. He will enter
- 19:32Speaker 6: the A and B gap like a 340 pound guard
- 19:35Speaker 6: and not flinch. And there's, there's, he's, he's as elite
- 19:40Speaker 6: as it gets.
- 19:41Speaker 1: We appreciate you, man. Your program is elite again. Thank
- 19:45Speaker 1: you for doing this, giving us this much time during
- 19:47Speaker 1: a busy time for you and your team. Mark, thank
- 19:50Speaker 1: you so much, and congratulations on all your success here
- 19:53Speaker 1: as the head coach of the University of Miami.
- 19:55Speaker 4: Appreciate you guys for having me, man. Go Canes.
- 19:58Speaker 7: All right.
- 19:58Speaker 1: When Malachi leaves, I want to have you back on,
- 20:00Speaker 1: and then we'll rank him, okay? The second he leaves,
- 20:01Speaker 1: you come back on, we'll rank him.
- 20:03Speaker 2: Good?
- 20:04Speaker 4: I'm ready for that. Absolutely. As long as the bear approves,
- 20:07Speaker 4: I'm fucking good. We got you.
- 20:08Speaker 2: Absolutely. I'm so excited, Stu. He's fucking capable.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Well, hold on. Just real quick. How many times does
- 20:13Speaker 1: Bear just show up to practice unannounced? Does he ever
- 20:15Speaker 1: do that? Just shows up?
- 20:20Speaker 4: No, but we have Bear T-shirts that we hand out
- 20:21Speaker 4: if he's not around, right?
- 20:23Speaker 2: You should.
- 20:24Speaker 5: I'm going to take credit for the playoff run last
- 20:27Speaker 5: year because I showed up the day before you guys
- 20:29Speaker 5: left for A & M, and I think I was
- 20:31Speaker 5: really the impetus behind the run last year.
- 20:34Speaker 4: However, you have to write the story, brother. I really
- 20:41Speaker 4: appreciate you guys. It's an honor to be on here.
- 20:43Speaker 4: Thank you. We appreciate you, man.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Thank you for doing it.
- 20:45Speaker 4: Thank you, sir. Thank you.
- 20:46Speaker 1: Good luck the rest of the way.
