- 0:22Speaker 1: You can go to yukontickets dot com. We're back with
- 0:24Speaker 1: Jimura On Mike Crispino. We talked about the running quarterback
- 0:28Speaker 1: Camp Bancher for FAU, the Owls coached by Tom Herman,
- 0:32Speaker 1: who had a lot of success at Houston and Texas
- 0:35Speaker 1: now at FAU. But your quarterback Nick Evers ran for
- 0:39Speaker 1: seventy yards the other day in ten attempts. So, I
- 0:42Speaker 1: mean you've been saying that, you know, he's that kind
- 0:45Speaker 1: of guy, jewel dimensional guy. How is that in terms
- 0:49Speaker 1: of helping your offense get to where it wants to go,
- 0:52Speaker 1: that he's able to pull it down and get some yardage.
- 0:57Speaker 2: It's big. You know. You see the best teams in
- 1:00Speaker 2: football today they have quarterbacks that you know, can throw
- 1:04Speaker 2: the ball but also make plays with their with their
- 1:07Speaker 2: legs and NIXX that kind of guy, you know, whether
- 1:09Speaker 2: it's a design quarterback run or it's him scrambling. You know,
- 1:13Speaker 2: when when there's nothing down the field to throw to.
- 1:17Speaker 2: I'm just telling you from a defensive standpoint, it makes
- 1:20Speaker 2: it really, really difficult to defend. And so we've seen
- 1:23Speaker 2: that from him and that was really his first opportunity
- 1:25Speaker 2: to get some runs in this week, and he did
- 1:27Speaker 2: a heck of a job. And we'll just try to
- 1:29Speaker 2: keep expanding on that. We want to make sure that
- 1:31Speaker 2: we keep him healthy at the same time, so you know,
- 1:34Speaker 2: it's got We've got to be judicious about it. But
- 1:36Speaker 2: you know, he he gives us an element that is
- 1:39Speaker 2: going to help us become a better offense.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Longest run was twenty three yards, average six yards, but boy,
- 1:44Speaker 1: that's a real weapon. Let's talk about his throwing. You know,
- 1:47Speaker 1: I was coming back from the game and I'm thinking
- 1:49Speaker 1: to myself, we got to be careful with this guy.
- 1:52Speaker 1: I mean, he's had two collegiate starts. You know, we
- 1:56Speaker 1: have a lot of expectations for Yukon football, all of us,
- 2:00Speaker 1: including you obviously, but are we We can't get ahead
- 2:04Speaker 1: of ourselves. If I'm right on this about Nick Evers,
- 2:08Speaker 1: throwing the football on a college level when he's had
- 2:11Speaker 1: two starts in his career.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Well, especially against the defense like that. I mean that
- 2:15Speaker 2: was going into the game, that was a fifteenth rank
- 2:18Speaker 2: defense in the country. I don't know that everyone realizes
- 2:21Speaker 2: how good they are on defense. Their talent is pretty special,
- 2:25Speaker 2: and there was some inconsistency there and we had some drops,
- 2:29Speaker 2: which you know, we haven't had a lot of drops
- 2:31Speaker 2: the first two weeks. But one of our objectives is
- 2:34Speaker 2: to develop more consistency in the past game. And so
- 2:36Speaker 2: that's receivers running good routes and getting open. It's Nick
- 2:39Speaker 2: putting the ball on target and on time. It's guy's
- 2:43Speaker 2: catching the football. But you're right, you know, Mike, he
- 2:45Speaker 2: started two games. Had he had the benefit of a
- 2:49Speaker 2: total four quarters against Indiana and a total of four
- 2:52Speaker 2: quarters against Merrimack, you know, he'd have been a little
- 2:56Speaker 2: more comfortable. But what I see in Nick is a
- 2:58Speaker 2: guy that every snap he takes he's getting better. When
- 3:00Speaker 2: he comes to the sidelines, he's always clear headed about
- 3:04Speaker 2: what he's seeing. He sees the game well, he doesn't
- 3:06Speaker 2: get rattled. You know, there would have been even some
- 3:09Speaker 2: moments in that game where you know, you wouldn't have
- 3:12Speaker 2: blamed him if he'd have gotten a little flustered. And
- 3:14Speaker 2: he just doesn't, you know, and he can clearly communicate
- 3:16Speaker 2: what he's seeing. And you know, I feel like the
- 3:20Speaker 2: guy's going to be a damn good player very quickly.
- 3:22Speaker 2: So we just need to keep getting him reps. More
- 3:25Speaker 2: reps he gets, the better he's going to become.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Yeah, the thing with with QB's obviously you got to
- 3:30Speaker 1: have a good arm, you gotta be accurate. You gotta
- 3:34Speaker 1: throw on time. That's one thing I notice every week
- 3:36Speaker 1: when I watch NFL games on Sundays. You got to
- 3:39Speaker 1: throw on time. If you don't get rid of the ball,
- 3:42Speaker 1: things can happen. Bad things can happen.
- 3:44Speaker 2: So yeah, that part of the.
- 3:46Speaker 1: College game too, getting the ball off in time.
- 3:49Speaker 2: It is not to the extent that it is in
- 3:51Speaker 2: the pros. I mean, if you if you wait for
- 3:54Speaker 2: someone to get open in the pros before you throw
- 3:56Speaker 2: the football, then by the time the ball gets here,
- 3:58Speaker 2: they won't be open. The difference between college football and
- 4:02Speaker 2: pro football in terms of the level of ability to speed,
- 4:04Speaker 2: the intensity is it's almost unfathomable. So but yet the
- 4:09Speaker 2: same things still hold true for college. Just because you
- 4:12Speaker 2: don't have as many great athletes on the field doesn't
- 4:14Speaker 2: mean there's not an equality of talent, and there is.
- 4:16Speaker 2: So it's anticipation, it's trust, it's timing, it's getting in
- 4:22Speaker 2: sync with your receivers, it's understanding coverages, comfortability in your scheme,
- 4:27Speaker 2: and all those things come with repetitions, you know, successes
- 4:31Speaker 2: and failures. You know, what can I get done? What's
- 4:33Speaker 2: a challenge for me? And how do I get through
- 4:35Speaker 2: that challenge? So now like things like that at every position,
- 4:38Speaker 2: but every position doesn't touch the ball every play, right, So,
- 4:42Speaker 2: like I said, I have tons of confidence in Nick.
- 4:44Speaker 2: I think he's going to be really special. He's just
- 4:48Speaker 2: got to continue to play. You know. We just got
- 4:50Speaker 2: to keep getting him snaps, and we get him snaps
- 4:52Speaker 2: in practice, we get the other guys some snaps. We
- 4:54Speaker 2: give him the majority of snaps and get snaps and games,
- 4:57Speaker 2: and we've got to realize that everything's not going to
- 4:59Speaker 2: be perfect. It never is. There's never been a football
- 5:01Speaker 2: game played. I don't think where it's perfect. But we
- 5:04Speaker 2: got to figure out ways to move through the challenging
- 5:07Speaker 2: times and find success quickly.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Yeah, the Skylar Bell was targeted fourteen times by Nick
- 5:15Speaker 1: Evers had seven catches fifty eight yards nineteen yards. After case,
- 5:19Speaker 1: there was a couple throws deep to Skyler in which
- 5:22Speaker 1: I felt like Duke played it beautifully in terms of
- 5:25Speaker 1: their secondary coverages. So they ended up with two men
- 5:27Speaker 1: on him. You know, safety's coming over to double up.
- 5:31Speaker 1: And I thought that was the tough thing for Nick
- 5:33Speaker 1: Evers to to understand, maybe that they really good secondaries
- 5:38Speaker 1: like Duke has, or they're going to get to places
- 5:41Speaker 1: unless you get the ball there, you know, before they do.
- 5:44Speaker 1: And right, yeah, I'm wondering is that something you develop
- 5:48Speaker 1: as a QB as time goes on.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Yeah, Like they were playing single high defense, a single
- 5:54Speaker 2: high safety in the middle of the field. But on
- 5:56Speaker 2: that interception, the guy got a great break. He can
- 5:59Speaker 2: run like the win he laid out and he made
- 6:00Speaker 2: a great play. So it wasn't like he threw it
- 6:03Speaker 2: into coverage. I mean he threw the ball. I mean
- 6:05Speaker 2: I thought it was caught by us, not by them.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Now I thought maybe he could have put a little
- 6:10Speaker 2: more velocity on it. But I went back and looked
- 6:12Speaker 2: at the film. You know, he did it just about right.
- 6:14Speaker 2: So sometimes the other team makes just great plays. You know,
- 6:18Speaker 2: I think one thing we have to be careful about
- 6:20Speaker 2: is making sure we spread the targets out so that
- 6:24Speaker 2: we don't let our defense to lock into one guy.
- 6:26Speaker 2: And you know, I know that Skyler had fourteen targets
- 6:29Speaker 2: and the most that anyone else had was three. Well,
- 6:32Speaker 2: that says a lot about Skyler number one, that he's
- 6:34Speaker 2: a damn good play and he gets open. But we
- 6:36Speaker 2: just have to make sure that we are spreading the
- 6:38Speaker 2: ball around enough that people have to honor TJ and
- 6:42Speaker 2: Z and Schamar and Shsaiah and Brett and Brock and
- 6:47Speaker 2: those guys. And we're going to do that. You know,
- 6:50Speaker 2: we did that the week before. And you know that's
- 6:53Speaker 2: just sometimes the coverage dictates it. Sometimes a guy gets open.
- 6:57Speaker 2: And then certainly when a quarterback has confidence and a
- 6:59Speaker 2: receiver is going to get the football, that's where he's
- 7:01Speaker 2: gonna throw it.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Yeah, and then he did it. He did it well
- 7:05Speaker 1: against Duke. Got to do it even better against Florida Atlantic.
- 7:07Speaker 1: We'll be back with Jim Moore and later on Chase
- 7:10Speaker 1: Lund joins us. The offensive tackle toy for MEA Brown,
- 7:13Speaker 1: the linebacker for the Huskies. When we continue on the
- 7:16Speaker 1: Yukon Football Coaches Show Onlearfield,
