- 0:11Speaker 1: Hey, this is Danielle Harris. So I am now maybe,
- 0:14Speaker 1: quite possibly, one of the newest members of Movie Meltdown.
- 0:19Speaker 1: If I can ever actually get to the movies. But
- 0:22Speaker 1: I'll review some old 80s rom-coms for you. See ya.
- 0:28Speaker 2: It had to be you. It had to be you.
- 0:35Speaker 2: The following feature has been rated R by the Motion
- 0:37Speaker 2: Picture Association of America.
- 0:39Speaker 1: It is intended for mature audiences and parental discretion is advised.
- 0:53Speaker 3: It's showtime, folks. Enjoy the show.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Our nuclear reactor, pumping out one million kilowatts of power.
- 1:30Speaker 4: We'll provide more cooling.
- 1:31Speaker 3: In the containment chamber.
- 1:35Speaker 2: To your stations, we have a movie meltdown. Damn, that's eerie.
- 1:44Speaker 1: What's up? Welcome to Movie Meltdown. I am Brian.
- 1:47Speaker 2: I am Misty. I am Jay.
- 1:49Speaker 1: And we're coming to you live via digital recording from Louisville,
- 1:52Speaker 1: home of Louisville Horror Con.
- 1:56Speaker 2: That horror con?
- 1:57Speaker 1: That horror con in that town. That town's crazy, yo. But, yeah,
- 2:04Speaker 1: I've seen this one somewhat recently, but we hadn't been.
- 2:08Speaker 1: So I thought this year we'd mix it up. We'd
- 2:10Speaker 1: go check out Louisville Horror Con, and it was pretty awesome.
- 2:13Speaker 2: I was very specific about why I wanted to come.
- 2:15Speaker 2: So if you have other things to discuss, we can
- 2:17Speaker 2: talk about those first.
- 2:19Speaker 1: I mean, I saw that. I figured that would be
- 2:21Speaker 1: a selling point because I was like, if there's one
- 2:23Speaker 1: thing I know Misty's into, this is right up her alley.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Hell yeah, it was.
- 2:27Speaker 1: So we can just jump to him if you want.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Because I don't know. I just walked around and looked
- 2:30Speaker 1: at stuff. I bought a sticker. It's got a zombie
- 2:33Speaker 1: looking dude on it.
- 2:34Speaker 2: I got some free stickers.
- 2:36Speaker 1: I got one of those from there too. Which has
- 2:38Speaker 1: the same zombie dude on it. Because they were both
- 2:40Speaker 1: dated live. So it's not really. Technically it's an alien.
- 2:43Speaker 1: But he looks like a zombie.
- 2:45Speaker 2: If I can get my cup out I'll tell you
- 2:46Speaker 2: who I got the free stickers from. Because I figure
- 2:48Speaker 2: if they're going to give me free stuff I should
- 2:49Speaker 2: say hey. I think they're a podcast. Maybe they're a podcast.
- 2:52Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 2:53Speaker 1: I think they were.
- 2:55Speaker 2: I got a sticker of them somewhere. Hold on, let
- 2:57Speaker 2: me look. This could take a second. It might be
- 3:00Speaker 2: a cup of horror. I don't know.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Or the other, yeah, the first, the one that has
- 3:05Speaker 1: the name of it on there, I think, is the podcast, definitely.
- 3:09Speaker 2: This one? A cup of horror? That's the one that
- 3:12Speaker 2: was already in the cup. So I'm assuming that's who
- 3:13Speaker 2: it was supposed to have been. But yeah, it was fantastic.
- 3:17Speaker 2: But are we jumping right into the main reason I
- 3:19Speaker 2: wanted to go there?
- 3:20Speaker 1: We might as well. Let's go.
- 3:21Speaker 2: I was super stoked because Omricats... I love me some
- 3:24Speaker 2: armor cats. I love eerie Indiana. It's the only thing
- 3:28Speaker 2: of his that I've probably seen. Cause it's like, I
- 3:31Speaker 2: was that weird kid. I was the one watching eerie
- 3:33Speaker 2: Indiana in like the early nineties.
- 3:36Speaker 1: I was, I mean, I was, I don't know that
- 3:38Speaker 1: I was as hardcore, but I definitely like saw the
- 3:41Speaker 1: ads for it when it was time. And I was like, Oh,
- 3:43Speaker 1: that looks cool. And then I watched it and I
- 3:45Speaker 1: was like, I was right. This is cool. But I
- 3:47Speaker 1: don't remember being like super hardcore, like some stuff. I
- 3:50Speaker 1: made sure, like, I saw every episode. That one, I
- 3:52Speaker 1: feel like I just kind of caught ones when I did.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Well, they had it on a shitty time. It was on, like,
- 3:56Speaker 2: Sunday nights at 7 or 7.30. That's dicey. Against, like,
- 4:00Speaker 2: 60 Minutes and, like, some other pretty established shows. But
- 4:04Speaker 2: I was trying to look up online. I'm like, what happened?
- 4:07Speaker 2: That's like the kiss of death is that time slot.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Pretty much. Especially, like. Your Sunday nights, you got your
- 4:14Speaker 1: old people lining up ready to watch the news, essentially.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Well, people who are pretty, you have your established, like
- 4:21Speaker 2: I said, it was a good 60 minutes. And like
- 4:23Speaker 2: at the time, that was like a big thing. And
- 4:26Speaker 2: it's that very transitional phase of like people are getting
- 4:29Speaker 2: ready to eat or they've already, they're done eating, they're
- 4:31Speaker 2: wrapping that up. And it's like, it's not a very specific,
- 4:36Speaker 2: what show is this? It's not horror. It's not really sci-fi.
- 4:39Speaker 2: It's not really a kid's show. I mean, it's kind
- 4:41Speaker 2: of a kid's show.
- 4:42Speaker 1: It is one you can't really just check in on.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Because every week you'll be like, what is going on here? Like,
- 4:48Speaker 1: it is kind of crazy.
- 4:50Speaker 2: But most of them were kind of standalone. It's not
- 4:51Speaker 2: like you needed to watch all of them.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Yeah, but they're all weird enough that if you were
- 4:55Speaker 1: like a grandparent that just looked over and went, what
- 4:59Speaker 1: are they doing? Yeah, it was crazy.
- 5:02Speaker 2: It was way ahead of its time. Because I think
- 5:04Speaker 2: it came out. I mean, it was definitely before the
- 5:06Speaker 2: Goosebumps TV show. It might have been around the same
- 5:09Speaker 2: time as Are You Afraid of the Dark? I loved
- 5:12Speaker 2: all that shit. I was like, that was right up
- 5:14Speaker 2: my alley. They made those shows for me. In my head.
- 5:19Speaker 2: That was me. It was these shows. Like I said,
- 5:21Speaker 2: between Eerie Indiana, Are You Afraid of the Dark? Watching
- 5:24Speaker 2: Stand By Me way too many fucking times. So I
- 5:26Speaker 2: was out in the woods all the time looking for
- 5:27Speaker 2: dead bodies. And any other weird shit. And I lived
- 5:30Speaker 2: in Indiana. I still live in Indiana. I will probably
- 5:32Speaker 2: always live in Indiana. So Eerie Indiana... It's perfect. And
- 5:38Speaker 2: I loved it. And I loved playing the game of, oh, wait,
- 5:40Speaker 2: who the fuck is that? Because I know them from
- 5:42Speaker 2: something else. And it was like almost every episode.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Now, did you do that as a kid or just now?
- 5:47Speaker 1: Because I feel like most of them weren't even somebody
- 5:49Speaker 1: yet when you were a kid.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Because I've watched it several times. I've been several viewings
- 5:54Speaker 2: of it. There was the original when I was a kid,
- 5:55Speaker 2: so nobody existed outside of it.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Pretty much.
- 5:58Speaker 2: But.
- 5:59Speaker 1: They were pulling them in before they were stars. And
- 6:01Speaker 1: then later, they all became like superstars.
- 6:03Speaker 2: So, yeah, and the most... Because Boyfriend hadn't... He hadn't
- 6:05Speaker 2: sat down, and well, he didn't sit down and watch
- 6:07Speaker 2: it this time either, but he'd seen like a few
- 6:08Speaker 2: episodes over the years. So I'm like, knowing that Omri
- 6:12Speaker 2: Katz was going to be there, I'm like, oh, I'm
- 6:14Speaker 2: going to watch it all.
- 6:15Speaker 1: I'm going to.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Re-watch it, at least the first season, because fuck the
- 6:17Speaker 2: second season. But yeah, it's like almost every other episode
- 6:20Speaker 2: was like, hmm, what do I know that person from?
- 6:23Speaker 2: What do I know them? Because you ended up with like,
- 6:24Speaker 2: Danielle Harris was in an episode. Nikki Cox was in
- 6:27Speaker 2: an episode. Klopek, what did you say? The Dr. Klopek?
- 6:31Speaker 5: I don't know what his name is.
- 6:33Speaker 2: He's not the guy from Buffy that you thought he was.
- 6:34Speaker 5: No, he's not the guy from Buffy.
- 6:36Speaker 2: The one I was excited about.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Oh, did you say from... Yeah, what the hell is that? What?
- 6:43Speaker 1: Joe Dante movie.
- 6:44Speaker 2: The Burbs.
- 6:45Speaker 5: The Burbs.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:46Speaker 5: Did Joe Dante do The Burbs?
- 6:47Speaker 1: Pretty sure he directed it. Oh, gosh. Joe Dante's awesome.
- 6:51Speaker 2: He also directed and was the producer of a good
- 6:53Speaker 2: majority of this. Almost every other episode, he was the
- 6:56Speaker 2: consulting producer or whatever. So it's like he had such
- 6:58Speaker 2: a heavy influence on.
- 7:00Speaker 5: Henry Gibson.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Henry Gibson?
- 7:01Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. Isn't he from Blues Brothers? I don't remember.
- 7:06Speaker 2: It's been a long time since I've heard of him.
- 7:08Speaker 5: It's not quite possible.
- 7:08Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Didn't they reference Nazis in the.
- 7:12Speaker 5: Yeah, they did.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Why was there Nazis?
- 7:16Speaker 5: It was the episode.
- 7:17Speaker 2: With the surfing pitbulls or something.
- 7:20Speaker 5: Pitbull surfers.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Pitbull surfers with the band. The heavy metal music that
- 7:24Speaker 2: was like... Again, that one was pretty awesome.
- 7:26Speaker 1: We'll get back to Nazis later, don't you worry.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Oh, God.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Okay, not now.
- 7:31Speaker 2: But, yeah, so just all week. That's what we watched
- 7:35Speaker 2: all week. So it was, like I said, and just
- 7:39Speaker 2: one of my favorites. I don't know how to say
- 7:40Speaker 2: his last name properly, but Andy? Andy.
- 7:45Speaker 1: I've always just thought it was Goes, but I don't
- 7:48Speaker 1: really know. Again, I don't know that I've heard it said.
- 7:50Speaker 2: Harry Goes? Goes? From Twin Peaks. Andy. Like, oh, it's Andy.
- 7:58Speaker 2: And you have to say it as like, Andy.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Andy.
- 8:02Speaker 2: I don't know why.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Like you just answered a phone in some sort of
- 8:05Speaker 1: crazy tone. Yeah.
- 8:06Speaker 2: But he was in several episodes.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Had a lot of Andys in that tone.
- 8:12Speaker 2: So, yeah, he was in a couple episodes. It's like
- 8:14Speaker 2: he was wearing the full on because, again, he's a
- 8:16Speaker 2: police officer.
- 8:17Speaker 1: That's his job.
- 8:18Speaker 2: It's a stretch. I know. I think he might have
- 8:20Speaker 2: even had like the like the aviator shades on. So
- 8:22Speaker 2: you couldn't really. I'm like. As soon as I heard
- 8:24Speaker 2: the voice, I'm like, oh, that's Andy. I can tell
- 8:26Speaker 2: by the voice. And I could have even sworn there
- 8:28Speaker 2: was a scene that had, I could have swore I
- 8:31Speaker 2: saw David Lynch in the background, but I couldn't find
- 8:33Speaker 2: any reference to it. So I could have just been
- 8:35Speaker 2: making it up. But somebody who looks like David Lynch.
- 8:38Speaker 1: I feel like if anybody would just sneak onto a
- 8:41Speaker 1: set and just hang out in the background, it would
- 8:42Speaker 1: be David Lynch.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Well, I mean, honestly, Eerie Indiana was kind of like
- 8:45Speaker 2: a kid version of Twin Peaks.
- 8:47Speaker 1: It pretty much was.
- 8:48Speaker 2: I mean, and it was a classic for kids my age.
- 8:51Speaker 1: What year? So this was like a couple of years
- 8:53Speaker 1: after Twin Peaks?
- 8:54Speaker 2: 91. It was around the same time. Oh, yeah.
- 8:56Speaker 1: That's like within the next year or so.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Okay.
- 8:58Speaker 1: That's a pretty quick turn. I was trying to figure
- 9:00Speaker 1: out the, like, did they knowingly bring Andy in because
- 9:03Speaker 1: he was on Twin Peaks? So, yeah, if it was
- 9:05Speaker 1: right after, then they definitely did. Again, Joe Dante probably
- 9:08Speaker 1: being a nerd, being like, oh, yeah, let's bring him on.
- 9:10Speaker 2: I mean, even Dick Miller was in an episode.
- 9:12Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Everybody loves Dick Miller. He's a legend.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Because he was in the one with the lost hour.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Do you remember that? Was it the lost hour? No,
- 9:19Speaker 2: it wasn't the lost hour. It was where the briefcase
- 9:20Speaker 2: went missing, where everything got lost. So everything would disappear
- 9:23Speaker 2: into this area. And it's a whole thing to do
- 9:27Speaker 2: with consumerism. I don't know.
- 9:28Speaker 5: I think I fell asleep.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Yeah, you fell asleep a lot.
- 9:32Speaker 5: Was that last night?
- 9:33Speaker 2: No, that was a couple nights ago.
- 9:34Speaker 1: That's part of when it sucked out. Also, your energy.
- 9:37Speaker 1: And you had to go to sleep.
- 9:38Speaker 5: No, I was from skateboarding.
- 9:42Speaker 2: There was a kid that skateboarded, and you were pretty
- 9:43Speaker 2: excited about that, but then he got ran over.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Was his name Brian? Yeah, he got ran over. He
- 9:46Speaker 1: likes to skateboard.
- 9:47Speaker 2: He got ran over. He died. Ah, lame. That was
- 9:50Speaker 2: like one of the, that's the Danielle Harris episode. Did
- 9:52Speaker 2: she skateboard? Yes, eventually she did. Cool. Spoiler alert, he
- 9:57Speaker 2: was skateboarding in the middle of the street, he got
- 9:59Speaker 2: ran over, and she had a heart problem.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Friend of the show, Danielle Harris.
- 10:03Speaker 2: She had a heart defect. So she had to have
- 10:05Speaker 2: a heart transplant. And he got run over because both
- 10:09Speaker 2: that guy and Omri Katz were like fighting over her
- 10:12Speaker 2: because she was so fucking cute.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Because she's Danielle, of course.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Well, obviously. Obviously. So when he died, she got the heart.
- 10:17Speaker 2: So she took over doing a lot of the things
- 10:19Speaker 2: that he did. Like the knife stabby hand thing. You
- 10:22Speaker 2: know what I mean?
- 10:23Speaker 1: Mumbly pig.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Is that what it's called?
- 10:26Speaker 1: Is that what it's called?
- 10:27Speaker 2: I have no fucking idea. I didn't know it was
- 10:28Speaker 2: called a thing. It's just the hand with the knife
- 10:30Speaker 2: stabby thing. And she started skateboarding. And then he was jealous.
- 10:37Speaker 1: I can see that.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Yeah, it's such a great show. It had a lot
- 10:42Speaker 2: more heart than a lot of other... Then the sequel,
- 10:46Speaker 2: the series, the second sequel, second series.
- 10:48Speaker 1: You said you weren't even aware of?
- 10:50Speaker 2: I didn't even know it existed until like a couple
- 10:52Speaker 2: years ago. Somebody on Instagram referenced it. I'm like, a
- 10:54Speaker 2: second series, a second season?
- 10:56Speaker 1: What are you talking about?
- 10:57Speaker 2: What are you fucking talking about?
- 10:58Speaker 1: What, do you live in Erie, Indiana, and you're crazy?
- 11:01Speaker 1: They were like, no, here you go.
- 11:02Speaker 2: See, I had no idea what even the concept was.
- 11:05Speaker 2: But apparently, because it's Erie, Indiana, the other dimension? I'm
- 11:11Speaker 2: stuttering a lot. I'm sorry.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Sounds like they're already reaching.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Is it the other dimension? Second dimension?
- 11:15Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 11:16Speaker 2: It was fucking stupid.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Does it have the same kids?
- 11:18Speaker 3: No.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Whoa, what the hell?
- 11:19Speaker 2: Because it's supposed to be in an alternate reality, another dimension.
- 11:23Speaker 1: This was the early multiverse.
- 11:25Speaker 2: So it's still eerie Indiana, but it's in an alternate
- 11:28Speaker 2: dimension with the characters that have names that are similar,
- 11:32Speaker 2: which I thought was fucking stupid.
- 11:33Speaker 1: It definitely seems like some producer came up with this
- 11:37Speaker 1: that was like, nah, we don't need the same actors.
- 11:39Speaker 1: I can see them just like, we'll swap out somebody
- 11:41Speaker 1: that kind of looks like them.
- 11:44Speaker 2: Just give me a second.
- 11:45Speaker 1: This is like that weird season of Dukes of Hazzard.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Coy and Vance?
- 11:50Speaker 1: Wait, what is the first one's name?
- 11:52Speaker 2: This is from Coy. This is the Duke brother. I know.
- 11:57Speaker 1: I can never remember the other one's name. I always
- 11:59Speaker 1: remember Vance, and I'm like.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Who is this? Coy. Pretty sure we're talking about Coy.
- 12:03Speaker 5: Like fish.
- 12:04Speaker 1: What a weirdo. And again, that's not the fish for
- 12:07Speaker 1: those kind of guys. It was like trout, maybe, but
- 12:10Speaker 1: not koi.
- 12:11Speaker 5: Trout and Vance.
- 12:12Speaker 1: They're a little too fancy for koi.
- 12:15Speaker 5: And largemouth bass.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Exactly. Billy bass is a little more their speed. They're
- 12:20Speaker 1: not quite the fancy level of a koi pond.
- 12:22Speaker 5: Crappie and bass.
- 12:23Speaker 1: Yeah, really.
- 12:25Speaker 2: If I could find them, the other dimension is what
- 12:27Speaker 2: it was called. I know they gave them names that
- 12:30Speaker 2: are similar, but different. Mitchell and Stanley. As opposed to
- 12:36Speaker 2: Marshall and Simon.
- 12:37Speaker 6: Hmm.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Mitchell Taylor instead of Marshall Teller. And Stanley Hope instead
- 12:43Speaker 2: of Simon... I already forgot his last name. Was it Harris?
- 12:48Speaker 2: Was it Harris? Yeah, Simon Harris. Maybe I'm pulling that
- 12:52Speaker 2: out of my ass.
- 12:52Speaker 1: I don't know. Or Daniel, whichever.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Yeah, it could be.
- 12:55Speaker 3: But.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Yeah, that seems like somebody just sort of in the
- 12:59Speaker 1: writer's room throwing stuff out there. Be like, I don't know.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Let's just call them these names. It's almost the same.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Kids won't know. Kids are dumb.
- 13:04Speaker 2: Because it's an alternate dimension.
- 13:05Speaker 1: Kids are dumb. They don't know the difference. If you squint,
- 13:08Speaker 1: these are the same guys. Kids know better.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Well, apparently they just... It was... Because when I said
- 13:14Speaker 2: when Eerie Indiana first started, it wasn't like a kid channel.
- 13:18Speaker 2: It was like on fucking NBC or something. So it
- 13:20Speaker 2: was on like regular, like 7.30 at night. Yeah.
- 13:23Speaker 1: That's why, again, I was aware of it because I
- 13:25Speaker 1: think I saw the ads come out. It was a
- 13:26Speaker 1: regular old network show that I thought looked cool. I
- 13:29Speaker 1: was like, yes, this is what I want to see.
- 13:31Speaker 1: But I don't even remember hearing about this other one
- 13:33Speaker 1: because they switched to kid-friendly.
- 13:36Speaker 2: Apparently it's old, which even Omricat says he has not
- 13:39Speaker 2: watched the second season, which I don't fucking doubt. Because
- 13:42Speaker 2: apparently it's, from what he said, disrespectful to the original.
- 13:46Speaker 2: I don't know, but apparently it's definitely more kiddified. It's
- 13:48Speaker 2: more slapsticky and just like, it's more kid oriented work.
- 13:52Speaker 2: It's like I said, this, the original, it had moments
- 13:56Speaker 2: that an adult could watch and, you know, yes, it
- 14:00Speaker 2: was kids, but it wasn't just kids situations. You know
- 14:04Speaker 2: what I mean? If that makes any sense.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, there's a lot of stuff that's kid oriented,
- 14:09Speaker 1: but is creepy and works, but still rings true like
- 14:12Speaker 1: a creepy thing. And then there's other stuff that you
- 14:14Speaker 1: can definitely feel like they've almost dumbed it down to
- 14:18Speaker 1: the point of like oh this won't offend anyone kids
- 14:20Speaker 1: will love.
- 14:20Speaker 2: It like apparently that's the second season yeah.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Kids know better they can read that stuff and be
- 14:24Speaker 1: like this isn't right.
- 14:25Speaker 2: And there was like a big gap in between too
- 14:27Speaker 2: it's like i don't know if there was like let's
- 14:29Speaker 2: see because this was like 91 92 i think the
- 14:30Speaker 2: second one was like when the second series came out
- 14:33Speaker 2: it was like 90 i'll say 97 or 98 and.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Also jumping network so they definitely like got dropped and
- 14:38Speaker 1: then like somebody else was like dusting off ideas because
- 14:41Speaker 1: they didn't have anything to put on Fox or whatever
- 14:43Speaker 1: it was at that point.
- 14:45Speaker 2: And like I said, the original, you had Joe Dante
- 14:47Speaker 2: who's brought such amazing, who could do that mix of
- 14:50Speaker 2: like horror and comedy at the same time because you
- 14:52Speaker 2: had Gremlins.
- 14:53Speaker 1: That's his brand, really.
- 14:55Speaker 2: I mean... And you had whatever, you said he did
- 14:58Speaker 2: The Burbs.
- 14:59Speaker 1: Yeah, Burbs, Matinee, both of those. Like, it's a fun movie,
- 15:03Speaker 1: but it's also, like, really serious at points about a
- 15:06Speaker 1: pretty serious topic.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Some of the stuff that they did in Eerie Indiana,
- 15:10Speaker 2: the original series. It was, you know, it wasn't really dark.
- 15:13Speaker 2: I would say dark, dark. It was kid dark.
- 15:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:15Speaker 2: You know what I mean? But it was serious stuff.
- 15:17Speaker 2: You know, you had a fucking kid dying and a
- 15:18Speaker 2: girl getting a heart transplant. She's being haunted by the
- 15:22Speaker 2: guy whose heart she now has.
- 15:23Speaker 1: That's a lot to deal with.
- 15:25Speaker 2: So... And then there was one episode that was very
- 15:28Speaker 2: disturbing behavior. I'm like, the disturbing behavior watching this episode?
- 15:32Speaker 2: Because it's like they're at school and all the bad
- 15:34Speaker 2: kids have to go get this eye exam. And they
- 15:36Speaker 2: come out with these glasses and they're all very well behaved.
- 15:39Speaker 2: And they're very well mannered. I'm like, hmm. I wonder
- 15:45Speaker 2: if this is like, did whoever watched this?
- 15:48Speaker 1: Was like, well, this is for kids. But what if
- 15:50Speaker 1: we got cool teenagers?
- 15:52Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 15:53Speaker 1: If we made a cool R-rated movie.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Was it rated R?
- 15:57Speaker 1: Seemed like it probably was.
- 15:58Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 15:59Speaker 1: I need to watch it again. As you were describing it,
- 16:01Speaker 1: I was like, oh yeah, that was kind of awesome
- 16:03Speaker 1: back in the day. I need to watch that again.
- 16:05Speaker 2: I thought it was PG-13, but I could be totally wrong.
- 16:09Speaker 2: I have the book, too, but I haven't read it.
- 16:13Speaker 2: You're right, it's rated R. Holy shit. I just don't
- 16:16Speaker 2: remember there being that much rated R, like, But stuff.
- 16:19Speaker 1: That was like back in the day when they would
- 16:21Speaker 1: still make R-rated stuff that wasn't even meant to be adult-oriented.
- 16:26Speaker 1: It was just like cool teenagers, and they were like,
- 16:28Speaker 1: we know kids that are going to watch this probably
- 16:31Speaker 1: aren't the age to get into R-rated movies, but we're
- 16:34Speaker 1: going to make it like that anyway. There were a
- 16:35Speaker 1: lot at that point that almost don't make sense. You'd
- 16:38Speaker 1: think they would plan ahead and make it PG-13, but
- 16:42Speaker 1: a lot of them I still feel like at that
- 16:43Speaker 1: time still are.
- 16:45Speaker 2: Yeah, it reminded me of that, just in that way.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Who else did we decide was on an episode of
- 16:51Speaker 2: Eerie Indiana? Oh, Claude Atkins? Atkins?
- 16:54Speaker 1: Yeah. Atkins, I think.
- 16:55Speaker 2: That one cowboy guy who was in an episode.
- 16:57Speaker 1: He was in a ton of stuff.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Yeah. He played a cowboy.
- 17:00Speaker 1: As you said it, yeah, that's what I was telling
- 17:02Speaker 1: Jay earlier. I was like, I pictured him in a
- 17:04Speaker 1: cowboy hat. So I'm like, I know he was on
- 17:06Speaker 1: at least a cowboy show.
- 17:08Speaker 2: See, in my head, he's still that guy from The
- 17:11Speaker 2: Twilight Zone, The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street.
- 17:14Speaker 1: That's one of the best episodes ever. I love that one.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Every time it's on.
- 17:18Speaker 2: I like it, but it's kind of overplayed.
- 17:20Speaker 1: But it's like, again, he was so ahead of the curve.
- 17:25Speaker 1: You're watching that, and I'm like, this says so much
- 17:28Speaker 1: that no way in hell was anybody else addressing this
- 17:31Speaker 1: kind of stuff back in the day. Hell, they don't
- 17:33Speaker 1: do it now, let alone back then.
- 17:35Speaker 2: I'm not doubting the genius of Rod Serling.
- 17:37Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying.
- 17:38Speaker 2: I mean, I literally have a tattoo of the guy
- 17:40Speaker 2: on my arm.
- 17:40Speaker 1: I love everything he does.
- 17:41Speaker 2: The hell you say. I mean, it's a good episode.
- 17:44Speaker 2: It's not my favorite. It's a good episode.
- 17:45Speaker 1: I like it. It's one of my favorites.
- 17:48Speaker 2: It's a good one. But again, it's one that's played
- 17:50Speaker 2: so often that people don't realize that there are other episodes.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Well, there are like six or eight that they run.
- 17:58Speaker 1: Or they also get all the promotion. They do t-shirts
- 18:01Speaker 1: and toys and everything of those specific ones. How many
- 18:05Speaker 1: seasons are there that they don't touch?
- 18:08Speaker 2: Time Enough at Last always gets the hell promoted out
- 18:10Speaker 2: of it. Eye of the Beholder. What's another one? Monsters
- 18:14Speaker 2: Are Due on Maple Street. Nick of Time Nick of
- 18:20Speaker 2: Time gets a lot you're a little.
- 18:22Speaker 1: Devahite guy yeah Invaders oh I hate that one you
- 18:26Speaker 1: love Invaders.
- 18:28Speaker 2: I just don't but anyways back to the story at
- 18:32Speaker 2: hand we wanted to go I wanted to go to
- 18:34Speaker 2: this convention because Omri Katz was going to be there
- 18:37Speaker 2: and I don't think we've seen him at one like
- 18:39Speaker 2: in this area like in this area.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Area which I said earlier as we were standing there
- 18:44Speaker 1: in front of this table like It seems like all
- 18:47Speaker 1: of his shows should be booked in Indiana. Does that
- 18:50Speaker 1: not make sense?
- 18:51Speaker 2: I mean, eerie Indiana. Why? Why? You could have an
- 18:56Speaker 2: eerie Indiana con and just bring on all the people
- 18:59Speaker 2: that made guest appearances on the show. Except for Claude Atkins,
- 19:02Speaker 2: because I'm pretty sure he's dead by now.
- 19:03Speaker 1: Might be able to convince Toby.
- 19:04Speaker 2: And that guy from... Whoever Dr.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Klopek was.
- 19:07Speaker 2: Yeah, Toby McGuire. That's another one I forgot was in
- 19:10Speaker 2: an episode. So good. So good.
- 19:13Speaker 1: But yeah, so now we're... throw a rock and you
- 19:16Speaker 1: can hit Indiana. And he finally came here.
- 19:18Speaker 2: So I was totally stoked.
- 19:19Speaker 1: That's awesome.
- 19:20Speaker 2: So yeah, I went and got his autograph and he
- 19:22Speaker 2: was like super friendly.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Like he was really friendly.
- 19:27Speaker 2: Like we stood around and talked to him for a while.
- 19:29Speaker 2: I can't tell if it was like, if he's normally
- 19:31Speaker 2: that social or if he was a little high, but whatever.
- 19:34Speaker 2: He was, he was definitely super friendly.
- 19:37Speaker 1: And like, even the lady that was working his table
- 19:40Speaker 1: was just like, cause he wasn't behind the table when
- 19:42Speaker 1: we walked up there. And she's like, Yeah, he doesn't
- 19:44Speaker 1: really sit down. He likes going out there and talking
- 19:47Speaker 1: to people. He hasn't really sat down all day. so
- 19:50Speaker 1: he just liked being like up and standing like a
- 19:53Speaker 1: normal person having a conversation that's what he did with
- 19:55Speaker 1: us he was in front of the table the whole
- 19:57Speaker 1: time just talking to us.
- 19:58Speaker 2: Yeah i was trying to i was trying to ask
- 19:59Speaker 2: him like is it weird i mean he like left
- 20:03Speaker 2: the whole acting scene relatively early was it i don't
- 20:06Speaker 2: want to say like 2002 2006 or whatever he was
- 20:08Speaker 2: like done.
- 20:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:10Speaker 2: So he went on to, what did he say? I
- 20:12Speaker 2: thought he said it.
- 20:13Speaker 5: Was right after Hocus Pocus is when he left.
- 20:15Speaker 2: I don't know. I've never seen Hocus Pocus. I don't
- 20:17Speaker 2: know when it came out. I'm one of the few females,
- 20:20Speaker 2: I guess.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Especially females, I was going to say. I was telling you,
- 20:23Speaker 1: I'm one of the people that doesn't like Live and
- 20:25Speaker 1: Die by Hocus Pocus. I've never seen it.
- 20:27Speaker 5: Well, Hocus Pocus came out in 93, so.
- 20:30Speaker 1: So, yeah, that would have been after he wrapped up
- 20:33Speaker 1: the series.
- 20:34Speaker 2: Maybe he tried to come back. I thought I read
- 20:35Speaker 2: somewhere that he came back and then officially retired in
- 20:38Speaker 2: the early 2000s. Oh, yeah. So maybe he did that,
- 20:42Speaker 2: then he went off and did his Grateful Dead tour.
- 20:44Speaker 2: Apparently he followed the dead around for a while.
- 20:46Speaker 1: He was finding himself. I'm going to guess.
- 20:48Speaker 2: And then he went, I'm like, how do I know
- 20:51Speaker 2: more of your story than you do? Because you seem confused.
- 20:53Speaker 2: I wonder if I weirded him out. Then you got
- 20:58Speaker 2: into snowboarding, right? Because I'm like, I want to be
- 21:00Speaker 2: one of them. My boyfriend got into snowboarding too. You
- 21:02Speaker 2: want to know what happened? He got his foot turned around.
- 21:05Speaker 1: No, you don't want to know what happened. We've traumatized
- 21:08Speaker 1: other celebrities with our stories.
- 21:10Speaker 5: I didn't realize he was in Hocus Pocus.
- 21:13Speaker 1: Yeah, he's one of the other kids.
- 21:15Speaker 2: I've never seen Hocus Pocus, so I wouldn't know. We're
- 21:17Speaker 2: apparently the guy from NCIS, whose name I can't remember
- 21:21Speaker 2: right now.
- 21:22Speaker 1: Dude, that's a paycheck.
- 21:23Speaker 2: Sean Murray. What's his name on the NCIS? Because that's
- 21:28Speaker 2: how I would know.
- 21:28Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 21:31Speaker 5: Special Agent Timothy....
- 21:36Speaker 2: McGee. Oh, McGee. McGee, duh.
- 21:38Speaker 1: You get on one of those NCIS shows, you ride
- 21:40Speaker 1: that out, man. Dude. That is a paycheck.
- 21:43Speaker 2: But yeah, I've never seen it. I'm not big on
- 21:45Speaker 2: Sarah Jessica Parker's face.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Yeah, she was the most acceptable for me. That was
- 21:50Speaker 1: my thing. I was like, I don't really care about
- 21:51Speaker 1: Bette Midler. Kathy just gets on my nerves. Like, she's
- 21:55Speaker 1: always kind of bugged me.
- 21:56Speaker 5: Oh, your friend Doug Jones was in.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Yeah, Doug Jones is the one selling point, and I'm
- 22:00Speaker 1: still just like, I'll watch the Doug part on the
- 22:03Speaker 1: loop or something, but.
- 22:04Speaker 2: Is there just a Doug Jones cut?
- 22:06Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. I'm sure there's a super cut.
- 22:09Speaker 1: The internet loves Doug Jones. Of course, somebody's done a
- 22:11Speaker 1: super cut.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Who doesn't love Doug Jones?
- 22:13Speaker 1: So, but yeah, that was one of those, like, it
- 22:16Speaker 1: was cool seeing that he was in that, though, because
- 22:18Speaker 1: I'm like, now that's like a super beloved property. So, like,
- 22:22Speaker 1: he can ride that out the rest of it, even
- 22:23Speaker 1: if he wasn't in eerie Indiana. It's like just doing those,
- 22:26Speaker 1: because I think they even do, I remember looking it up,
- 22:29Speaker 1: there's like a con that's just centered around The Hocus
- 22:33Speaker 1: Pocus now that they do every year. That those three
- 22:35Speaker 1: kids now show up and, like, hang out and probably
- 22:39Speaker 1: do a Q & A.
- 22:40Speaker 2: Dash X was there as well, who was also, wasn't
- 22:42Speaker 2: he in Hocus Pocus? Yeah. Wasn't he the voice of
- 22:45Speaker 2: Salem from, like, something? Or was he not? Am I
- 22:48Speaker 2: making that part up?
- 22:49Speaker 1: I don't know. All I know is Salem the cat.
- 22:51Speaker 2: That's what I'm talking about, Salem the cat.
- 22:53Speaker 1: That robot cat was crazy.
- 22:54Speaker 2: He was a lot shorter than I anticipated. But, yes,
- 22:57Speaker 2: we talked to Omri Katz for a good, like, what, 10,
- 22:59Speaker 2: 15 minutes?
- 22:59Speaker 3: I'd say at least.
- 23:00Speaker 1: I'd say it was a good 15 minutes. eventually i
- 23:03Speaker 1: was like these other people are going to be annoyed
- 23:05Speaker 1: but at the beginning we weren't you know there wasn't
- 23:07Speaker 1: a line so like we we felt comfortable having a
- 23:10Speaker 1: normal conversation yeah he talked.
- 23:11Speaker 2: About what he did after he kind of quit he
- 23:12Speaker 2: went to be like a was it like a waiter
- 23:14Speaker 2: to a host or something and then went to like
- 23:17Speaker 2: a haircutter after.
- 23:19Speaker 1: He was already like a somewhat successful actor i mean
- 23:23Speaker 1: when you get your own run of a show i'm
- 23:24Speaker 1: not saying he made a ton of money but like
- 23:27Speaker 1: even to get on a show is more than a
- 23:28Speaker 1: lot of people. So he'd already had that before he
- 23:30Speaker 1: got to his waiter years. Like usually it goes in reverse.
- 23:33Speaker 1: Like you're doing the waiter gig while you're, you know,
- 23:36Speaker 1: going to auditions and like not showing up for work
- 23:38Speaker 1: and getting fired. And then you get another waiter gig,
- 23:40Speaker 1: but like he did it the other way where he'd
- 23:41Speaker 1: already had a successful show for a season. Obviously it
- 23:45Speaker 1: wasn't that successful, I guess, but that's cause they put
- 23:48Speaker 1: it against 60.
- 23:49Speaker 2: Minutes, but seriously, the worst time.
- 23:51Speaker 1: That was the, that was the network being stupid. So, But, yeah,
- 23:54Speaker 1: so he'd already had a good job and then, like,
- 23:58Speaker 1: left that and ended up having to go wait tables,
- 24:00Speaker 1: which kind of sucks.
- 24:01Speaker 2: But if you just don't want to be an actor anymore.
- 24:05Speaker 1: That's kind of what I wanted to hear a little
- 24:07Speaker 1: more about, really, is, like, that maybe he likes the
- 24:11Speaker 1: fact that he doesn't have to deal with that. Like,
- 24:13Speaker 1: a lot of people just get to a point they
- 24:14Speaker 1: don't want to do all that nonsense involved. So I'm like, yeah,
- 24:18Speaker 1: I'd be okay with that. Just get a nice steady
- 24:21Speaker 1: gig and get yourself a regular job. So I wondered
- 24:24Speaker 1: if he found a little piece in that that you
- 24:27Speaker 1: weren't playing the game that is the entertainment industry.
- 24:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I was curious as to what he does now.
- 24:32Speaker 2: As I was looking up, I'm like, does he do anything? No.
- 24:35Speaker 2: Apparently he has his own... He does something.
- 24:38Speaker 1: It's just not showbiz.
- 24:40Speaker 2: He has his own thing. He grows marijuana for, I guess,
- 24:45Speaker 2: people have to get their pot somewhere.
- 24:47Speaker 1: If you watch Sheriff Country, that's what it's all about.
- 24:51Speaker 2: So apparently he grows it and I guess it gets
- 24:53Speaker 2: sold to other people.
- 24:55Speaker 1: It goes out to dispensaries and stuff.
- 24:57Speaker 2: Yes, I guess. I don't know how any of that works.
- 25:00Speaker 1: I don't really. Again, that's most of my experience is
- 25:02Speaker 1: watching Sheriff Country. Because now it's all these farmers back
- 25:06Speaker 1: off on the land and they used to do it illegally.
- 25:09Speaker 1: And now all of a sudden they get.
- 25:10Speaker 2: To do it legally. They have more power to them though.
- 25:12Speaker 1: Yeah. It's interesting watching that shift now that our country
- 25:16Speaker 1: and so many different places are going through this. Because
- 25:18Speaker 1: that's what I was telling him when we were standing there.
- 25:20Speaker 1: I was like, This area just got medicinal. So like
- 25:22Speaker 1: we just got our first dispensary here. So it's like
- 25:26Speaker 1: people are just figuring out how the legal version of
- 25:28Speaker 1: this works now.
- 25:30Speaker 2: Which I'm all for being legal. I mean, I don't,
- 25:31Speaker 2: I don't do it. I don't smoke pot. I've never,
- 25:33Speaker 2: I said growing up in a pothead house, it doesn't,
- 25:37Speaker 2: it doesn't do anything for me. And I've tried like
- 25:40Speaker 2: the gummies and they made my heart feel like it's
- 25:43Speaker 2: going to explode.
- 25:44Speaker 1: Yours has like the reverse reaction of how things are
- 25:46Speaker 1: supposed to work on, you know, weed based stuff.
- 25:48Speaker 2: But I guess again, like I, Like I said, my mom,
- 25:52Speaker 2: my whole childhood. Then I dated a guy when I
- 25:55Speaker 2: was 16. And he was a pothead. And he wanted
- 25:58Speaker 2: me to be a pothead with him. But then I'm like,
- 26:01Speaker 2: he got me several times. I smoked it with him.
- 26:03Speaker 2: I'm like, this is doing nothing for me. You are
- 26:04Speaker 2: wasting your money. That's what I'm saying.
- 26:06Speaker 1: I think you're, as a child, you built up like
- 26:08Speaker 1: a tolerance that's like off the charts. Because you're surrounded
- 26:11Speaker 1: by so much secondhand smoke.
- 26:13Speaker 2: Well, because even Amarket says that certain people have like
- 26:15Speaker 2: this chemical, like, it just doesn't affect them.
- 26:17Speaker 1: It's just a different balance, probably, yeah. Yeah.
- 26:20Speaker 2: So, yeah, I just gave up on it.
- 26:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't care. I just never did. Like, it's
- 26:25Speaker 1: such a lifestyle choice. You know, it's like when you're
- 26:28Speaker 1: into that world, it's like you're immersed in that world.
- 26:31Speaker 1: It's rare that somebody's just kind of casually, oh, occasionally
- 26:35Speaker 1: I might smoke a joint.
- 26:36Speaker 2: Like.
- 26:36Speaker 1: That's not how it is. Like usually if you're into it,
- 26:38Speaker 1: you're into it.
- 26:40Speaker 2: And I'm fine with it. I don't care. Yeah.
- 26:42Speaker 1: That's what I was saying. I was like, I don't
- 26:43Speaker 1: do it. But like I've gotten to the point now
- 26:45Speaker 1: I want to prescribe it to people since I pretend
- 26:47Speaker 1: like I'm a doctor.
- 26:48Speaker 2: It's like it has so many. It does have so
- 26:50Speaker 2: many medical. Yeah. And I would rather be around somebody
- 26:53Speaker 2: that's high than somebody that's drunk.
- 26:55Speaker 1: Most definitely.
- 26:56Speaker 2: And it's like because drunk. I'm sorry. I went down
- 27:01Speaker 2: my little soapbox here. Drunk driving is fucking dangerous. It
- 27:05Speaker 2: kills so many people. Mm hmm. People are high.
- 27:08Speaker 1: You're like, why is this car in front of me
- 27:11Speaker 1: going five miles an hour?
- 27:13Speaker 2: I'm not saying there aren't incidents that people do become reckless.
- 27:16Speaker 1: I'm sure there are. Somebody always wants to complain about that, too.
- 27:19Speaker 1: And I'm like, yeah, but let's do the math. Tell
- 27:22Speaker 1: me how many a year go out because of drinking
- 27:25Speaker 1: versus any other kind of drug probably still pales.
- 27:28Speaker 2: In comparison to drinking. And how many people get abused physically.
- 27:32Speaker 1: Because of drinking? Nobody's getting high and kicking your ass.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Come on now.
- 27:36Speaker 2: They're just wanting to order where their fucking Cheetos are.
- 27:38Speaker 1: Yeah, they just want to order a pizza.
- 27:39Speaker 2: And again, I'm not saying that there aren't certain situations.
- 27:42Speaker 2: There are. Or if they get something that's laced with something.
- 27:45Speaker 1: But there are exceptions to the rule.
- 27:47Speaker 2: Always. Whereas, I would rather be around somebody that's high
- 27:52Speaker 2: than somebody that's drunk. And there are so many more usefulness...
- 27:59Speaker 2: There are so many other benefits.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Medicinal purposes. There's rarely a medicinal purpose to drinking. Like,
- 28:06Speaker 1: they'll give you that, oh, a glass of wine today
- 28:09Speaker 1: is good for your heart kind of bullshit. But I
- 28:10Speaker 1: was like, yeah.
- 28:11Speaker 2: Also, that made me feel like I was going to die.
- 28:14Speaker 1: Again, your system is way out of whack.
- 28:15Speaker 2: Because I read the whole thing about it just a
- 28:17Speaker 2: little bit before bedtime. They tell you that. I was
- 28:19Speaker 2: up all night long. My heart racing. Couldn't breathe. Thought
- 28:24Speaker 2: I was... And it wasn't even like a glass. It
- 28:27Speaker 2: was like... We should say about this much in a glass.
- 28:30Speaker 5: An inch worth of wine. Yeah, maybe not even a
- 28:32Speaker 5: cup worth of wine.
- 28:34Speaker 2: No, no, no. I mean, a cup's like this. I mean,
- 28:37Speaker 2: I had like maybe a quarter of a cup. Like,
- 28:40Speaker 2: break out a measuring cup. Maybe a half a cup
- 28:43Speaker 2: at the absolute most.
- 28:44Speaker 1: But it Again, like, that's just... Of all the things
- 28:48Speaker 1: that they tell you that stuff for, it's still, like,
- 28:50Speaker 1: going to be a fraction of the damage that gets
- 28:53Speaker 1: done due to people getting boozed up and doing God
- 28:55Speaker 1: knows what. Both to their system and to people around them.
- 28:59Speaker 2: No, we're going to be wrong. Some people can handle
- 29:01Speaker 2: a casual drink now and then.
- 29:02Speaker 1: I know plenty of people that live and die by booze.
- 29:04Speaker 1: So I'm not saying this, you know, ignorantly. I've witnessed it.
- 29:07Speaker 1: I see plenty of it. I know lots of people
- 29:09Speaker 1: who have had good versions of it and bad versions
- 29:13Speaker 1: of it.
- 29:13Speaker 2: I grew up in one of those homes that was...
- 29:15Speaker 2: yeah yeah i had the alcoholic and i had the
- 29:18Speaker 2: pothead so i had and now i can't do either
- 29:21Speaker 2: one of those.
- 29:21Speaker 1: Things well darn except i don't care myself so yeah
- 29:26Speaker 1: i don't really feel that bad for you because you're fine.
- 29:30Speaker 2: But yeah so we got to talk to omri and
- 29:31Speaker 2: he like said omri like we're best friends now you
- 29:34Speaker 2: see how i did that well.
- 29:35Speaker 1: I mean we did have quite a conversation because we
- 29:38Speaker 1: did go down that road way more than i expected
- 29:41Speaker 1: like i knew you'd read that about him but then
- 29:43Speaker 1: we got into like half of our conversation went into
- 29:46Speaker 1: the the because i was.
- 29:48Speaker 2: Curious because i said that he got into like the
- 29:50Speaker 2: marijuana production and i just didn't know if it was
- 29:52Speaker 2: was it just the pot or was he getting like
- 29:55Speaker 2: production of like Edibles. Edibles or like the oils or the,
- 29:59Speaker 2: you know, stuff like that. I'm curious. I want to
- 30:02Speaker 2: know these things.
- 30:02Speaker 1: And he was super cool and open about it and
- 30:04Speaker 1: like went into like what he has done, what he
- 30:07Speaker 1: doesn't do. Like he was really cool about it. So that's, yeah,
- 30:11Speaker 1: I was super interested just on a normal conversation. Again,
- 30:14Speaker 1: we weren't even talking movies anymore or TV shows. It
- 30:16Speaker 1: was just like, you know, as a person who works
- 30:18Speaker 1: in this industry that you do now, like what is
- 30:20Speaker 1: that like and how does this whole process happen? And yeah,
- 30:24Speaker 1: that was really interesting.
- 30:26Speaker 2: I was curious. I want to know things.
- 30:28Speaker 1: It was very cool.
- 30:31Speaker 2: I don't know if it's because of said business that
- 30:33Speaker 2: he didn't seem to remember a lot of references I
- 30:35Speaker 2: was making to his TV show.
- 30:37Speaker 1: Also, it's been a long time.
- 30:38Speaker 2: I also heard that he was high a lot on
- 30:40Speaker 2: Hocus Pocus. I'm just curious. That was one of the
- 30:45Speaker 2: search recommendations. I was looking up Omricats. It's like, was
- 30:49Speaker 2: Omricats high on Hocus Pocus?
- 30:52Speaker 1: Also, people say a lot of random crap on the
- 30:54Speaker 1: So I'm not saying it's impossible. I'm just saying.
- 30:57Speaker 2: Apparently he said it in other interviews. Apparently he has
- 30:59Speaker 2: said it in interviews where like him and some of
- 31:01Speaker 2: the other cast, which again, I don't give a shit.
- 31:04Speaker 2: I don't care. I'm all for it.
- 31:05Speaker 1: Have fun. Just as long as all parties are willing
- 31:07Speaker 1: and you don't hurt anybody, go to town, whatever.
- 31:09Speaker 2: You know, exactly. I don't care. I mean, I think
- 31:11Speaker 2: pot is one of the least harmful substances, but yeah,
- 31:14Speaker 2: I can see it as a gateway drug. But if
- 31:16Speaker 2: you just stick the pot, not that I'm, not that
- 31:19Speaker 2: I'm like pushing it. I'm not a dealer.
- 31:21Speaker 1: Like again, most people that are into pot just find
- 31:23Speaker 1: more ways to ingest more pot. Like again, I think
- 31:27Speaker 1: it's a handful that go into like two weeks later,
- 31:29Speaker 1: they're doing smack, you know, it's just like.
- 31:32Speaker 2: My boyfriend was tripping fucking balls on his, uh, when
- 31:35Speaker 2: he had his edibles, you were going on adventures. Cause yeah,
- 31:40Speaker 2: you had like, You had the gummies and then you
- 31:43Speaker 2: had the cookies. Was it cookies or brownies?
- 31:46Speaker 5: It was cookies. One of the guys at my work.
- 31:50Speaker 1: The most trustworthy of places to pick up your wheat.
- 31:52Speaker 5: Well, yeah, I mean, he was, yeah, I was getting
- 31:58Speaker 5: edibles through him. But he made some white chocolate chip cookies.
- 32:04Speaker 5: And some of it wasn't evenly distributed to the cookie.
- 32:10Speaker 1: One of the dangers of random do-it-yourself.
- 32:12Speaker 5: And I had one cookie and, you know, went out
- 32:15Speaker 5: to the garage and completely rebuilt the engine on my Corolla. And,
- 32:20Speaker 5: you know, and then another cookie, I would have it,
- 32:22Speaker 5: and then I'd be traveling through space.
- 32:25Speaker 1: Also working on your car?
- 32:27Speaker 2: No, no, I didn't.
- 32:28Speaker 5: Work on the car. I don't even think I made
- 32:29Speaker 5: it out of the.
- 32:32Speaker 1: The space hangar i only made it i.
- 32:34Speaker 5: Only made it out of the uh out of my
- 32:37Speaker 5: little office area i call it an office it's not
- 32:39Speaker 5: really an office it's my room and i got stuck
- 32:43Speaker 5: in a time loop uh where i kept asking misty
- 32:48Speaker 5: the same question over and over.
- 32:49Speaker 2: Again irritating the bejesus out of me.
- 32:51Speaker 5: I can see that it was weird though because it's
- 32:54Speaker 5: like i remember certain aspects of it like I was
- 32:58Speaker 5: sitting there watching TV, and I don't even know what
- 33:01Speaker 5: the question was, but I was like, I need to
- 33:04Speaker 5: go ask girlfriend a question.
- 33:06Speaker 2: And then I.
- 33:08Speaker 5: Would get up to go ask her a question, but
- 33:10Speaker 5: then I would end up sitting back in front of
- 33:14Speaker 5: the TV, and I was like, did I ask her
- 33:18Speaker 5: the question? I was like, I need to go ask
- 33:20Speaker 5: her that question. But it seemed like every time I
- 33:23Speaker 5: got up to go ask her the question... And I
- 33:26Speaker 5: walked down the hallway, I would end up right back
- 33:29Speaker 5: in the room sitting in front of the TV trying
- 33:32Speaker 5: to figure out if I ever asked her that question.
- 33:36Speaker 2: Five times.
- 33:38Speaker 1: God damn it, boyfriend. On your end, how noticeable the
- 33:42Speaker 1: very first time were you like, whoa, what the hell's
- 33:44Speaker 1: going on here?
- 33:46Speaker 2: When he was loading the dishwasher and he just busts
- 33:49Speaker 2: into laughing like it's the funniest goddamn thing. And I'm like,
- 33:52Speaker 2: did you eat one of your gummies? Yeah, I did.
- 33:54Speaker 2: And you just started laughing and you'd be in a
- 33:58Speaker 2: good mood. And then you kind of be kind of
- 33:59Speaker 2: like staring off into space. Like shit was coming to
- 34:02Speaker 2: get you. Yeah.
- 34:04Speaker 1: Spaceships come flying through space. You never know.
- 34:06Speaker 5: You got to watch out about watching YouTube when you're high. Sometimes, um,
- 34:11Speaker 5: at least, you know, like he had talked about the
- 34:14Speaker 5: difference between smoking weed and, and, and doing edibles, your
- 34:19Speaker 5: liver processes it different.
- 34:21Speaker 2: Um, Because when you smoke it, it goes more into
- 34:24Speaker 2: your bloodstream.
- 34:25Speaker 5: Yeah, you get more of a mellow high. And then
- 34:29Speaker 5: when you ingest it, depending on the amount, which apparently
- 34:32Speaker 5: there was fairly large amounts in the cookies, your liver
- 34:36Speaker 5: processes it and you end up tripping balls, you know,
- 34:40Speaker 5: like severely sometimes.
- 34:42Speaker 1: Plus it's not like if you're getting it from a,
- 34:46Speaker 1: I'm sure it's regulated even in the way it goes
- 34:49Speaker 1: in so that it's evenly distributed.
- 34:51Speaker 3: Oh yeah.
- 34:52Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 34:52Speaker 1: Versus making it at home. You might get one that's
- 34:54Speaker 1: almost nothing versus one that's, Oh.
- 34:57Speaker 2: That's kind of concentrated.
- 34:58Speaker 5: That's kind of the way it was, you know?
- 35:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 35:01Speaker 5: And, uh, it started getting really bad cause it went
- 35:05Speaker 5: from just, it went from just using them to kind
- 35:10Speaker 5: of help focus my ADHD and my, a little bit
- 35:13Speaker 5: of anxiety. Um, But then it was getting worse, and
- 35:19Speaker 5: so I just quit doing it because I wasn't having fun.
- 35:25Speaker 2: And you were getting on my goddamn nerves.
- 35:26Speaker 5: Yeah, that too.
- 35:27Speaker 1: That's bound to happen anyway.
- 35:28Speaker 5: Well, I wasn't really doing anything, you know. I was
- 35:32Speaker 5: kind of becoming sedentary, just going to work.
- 35:36Speaker 1: And coming home. Yeah, that can happen too.
- 35:38Speaker 5: And I think that was part of my issue was
- 35:40Speaker 5: that I wasn't doing anything physical. And then I think
- 35:43Speaker 5: I got back into Muay Thai. started doing that again
- 35:49Speaker 5: more and that kind of replaced everything because you know
- 35:53Speaker 5: all the endorphins you get kind of a high from
- 35:56Speaker 5: training and that takes a lot of the anxiety away
- 36:00Speaker 5: and stuff like that and then I moved from that
- 36:03Speaker 5: and went back to skateboarding and I skate quite a
- 36:06Speaker 5: bit so I don't have time for any of that
- 36:08Speaker 5: now you've replaced it with a whole new high yeah
- 36:13Speaker 5: now it's just fear endorphins Just trying to fight through
- 36:17Speaker 5: the fear of dropping in on ramps and stuff like that.
- 36:19Speaker 1: You showed me a picture earlier. You were doing pretty
- 36:22Speaker 1: impressive stuff.
- 36:23Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 36:24Speaker 2: My boyfriend's so cool.
- 36:25Speaker 1: Well, I mean, just looking at that photo, I was like, yeah,
- 36:28Speaker 1: I'm going to roll and die from this point where
- 36:29Speaker 1: you're at right now. So the fact that you landed
- 36:32Speaker 1: and are still here is pretty impressive.
- 36:33Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm trying bigger ramps and stuff. I mean, the
- 36:36Speaker 5: biggest ramp they got out here right now is, like,
- 36:38Speaker 5: I think the MetaRamp, which is, I think it's 12 feet.
- 36:44Speaker 5: It might be higher than 12 feet. But, yeah, I'm
- 36:48Speaker 5: not dropping in on that anytime soon just because it's
- 36:51Speaker 5: pretty big. And I'm kind of scared of heights, which
- 36:56Speaker 5: is kind of silly. But, you know, it is what
- 36:59Speaker 5: it is. I don't think it's so much being scared
- 37:01Speaker 5: of heights. It's just I don't want to break anything because.
- 37:03Speaker 2: I've got to work. You've already broken several things.
- 37:05Speaker 5: I've already broken enough stuff, yeah.
- 37:07Speaker 1: And, again, you kind of just roll off that stuff
- 37:10Speaker 1: when you're, like, 12. You're not 12 anymore.
- 37:12Speaker 5: No, I'm not 12 anymore.
- 37:13Speaker 1: Now you break something, you broke it. It's in bad
- 37:16Speaker 1: shape and it might be your hip. So don't do
- 37:18Speaker 1: those things.
- 37:19Speaker 2: He's broken his ribs twice. He's broken a toe.
- 37:22Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 37:23Speaker 5: Broken one of my fingers.
- 37:25Speaker 2: Why'd you break a finger?
- 37:26Speaker 5: That was from training, actually. That wasn't from skateboarding. But, yeah,
- 37:33Speaker 5: that stuff takes a while. Gosh, why does it take
- 37:35Speaker 5: so long to heal up now?
- 37:37Speaker 1: You know?
- 37:38Speaker 2: It's like you're getting old. Like Thanksgiving. Things take, scars
- 37:41Speaker 2: don't heal up anymore. Yeah.
- 37:43Speaker 1: I mean, it's just, your body gives up at some point.
- 37:45Speaker 1: It's just like, I'm halfway out of here, man.
- 37:47Speaker 2: Yeah, that and old injuries.
- 37:48Speaker 1: I ain't going to put that much work in you anymore.
- 37:50Speaker 5: Old injuries come back. Oh, that was another reason I
- 37:52Speaker 5: was taking some of that stuff was to try to.
- 37:56Speaker 5: mitigate some of the pain.
- 37:57Speaker 1: I was thinking that, as you said. I was like,
- 37:59Speaker 1: if there's anybody who would need it medicinally, you've damaged
- 38:02Speaker 1: so much in so many different ways. I can see
- 38:04Speaker 1: you hurting a lot, just in general.
- 38:06Speaker 5: Yeah, I took CBD for a while because I screwed
- 38:10Speaker 5: my back up pretty bad from work and then I
- 38:12Speaker 5: got hit by a car when I was on a motorcycle.
- 38:17Speaker 1: That wasn't cool.
- 38:18Speaker 7: Not a good time.
- 38:21Speaker 5: I took CBD oil for a while. And that helped
- 38:24Speaker 5: out a lot, but then eventually I just kind of
- 38:26Speaker 5: didn't need it. And right now I'm just not taking anything.
- 38:30Speaker 5: I'm just wrapping everything in copper fit and old bones
- 38:35Speaker 5: therapy sleeves and just kind of going from there.
- 38:40Speaker 1: That's the way to live.
- 38:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:45Speaker 1: Wrapped in things that are as seen on TV.
- 38:47Speaker 2: Yeah, well.
- 38:50Speaker 5: Yeah, I guess they are.
- 38:52Speaker 1: That's where I know those from.
- 38:53Speaker 5: Yeah, Copperfish. Copperfish is shit.
- 38:58Speaker 1: Well, you did all your watching of that, right? That's
- 39:01Speaker 1: pretty much what you've seen as of the last week
- 39:03Speaker 1: or two.
- 39:04Speaker 2: Aside from that shitty movie you tried to get us
- 39:06Speaker 2: to watch.
- 39:06Speaker 1: Well, then let's talk about a movie. Now, actually, you
- 39:09Speaker 1: were connected to this because you were there when I
- 39:11Speaker 1: bought this movie.
- 39:12Speaker 2: And I was equally unimpressed when the first saw it.
- 39:14Speaker 1: That's true. Even at the time, I was like, hey,
- 39:17Speaker 1: look at this. You were like, yeah, so. I was like, oh, hmm.
- 39:20Speaker 1: I might have to watch this. And then I watched
- 39:22Speaker 1: it and I was like.
- 39:23Speaker 2: And then you wait until the last minute and be like, hey,
- 39:25Speaker 2: watch this fucking movie. And I'm like, dude, seriously?
- 39:28Speaker 1: Last minute? I was like, if we need to talk
- 39:31Speaker 1: about something, we could talk about this. And I'm not
- 39:33Speaker 1: going to pretend like this movie's not bad because it is.
- 39:36Speaker 1: But it is a lot of things to talk about.
- 39:40Speaker 2: I'm not sure how much input I'm going to have
- 39:43Speaker 2: because I kind of only halfway watched a part of it.
- 39:46Speaker 1: I mostly wanted to tell you about the weird off
- 39:49Speaker 1: screen goings on anyway. To me, that's way more interesting
- 39:53Speaker 1: because I watched it that first time. This movie is,
- 39:56Speaker 1: just so you know what we're talking about, Jane and
- 39:58Speaker 1: the Lost City. It is from 1987. I picked up
- 40:03Speaker 1: the DVD because of course.
- 40:04Speaker 2: Should we make our own movie called Mary Jane and
- 40:06Speaker 2: the Lost City? No, this is a very special episode.
- 40:10Speaker 1: We can see if he's up for it. He might be.
- 40:11Speaker 1: It's time for his comeback.
- 40:12Speaker 2: He might have been able to do the podcast. I'm
- 40:15Speaker 2: telling you, you should have asked him. He seemed very chitchatty.
- 40:16Speaker 1: He is very chitchat.
- 40:18Speaker 2: That should be the name of the episode of Mary
- 40:20Speaker 2: Jane and the Lost City.
- 40:22Speaker 1: I'm all for that. So this one, yeah, looking at
- 40:26Speaker 1: the cover, I roped it in with all the rest
- 40:30Speaker 1: of them around this time in the 80s that was like,
- 40:33Speaker 1: Raiders of the Lost Ark made a fortune and was
- 40:35Speaker 1: actually critically beloved and the audiences loved it. So everything
- 40:40Speaker 1: came after that. And then you had the gimmick of
- 40:44Speaker 1: Temple of Doom. So then between the two of those,
- 40:47Speaker 1: you had... Everybody trying to make a knockoff Rated as
- 40:50Speaker 1: the Lost Ark, and then titling all of their movies
- 40:53Speaker 1: so that they were like, end of this thing, so
- 40:55Speaker 1: that it seemed like it was something like that, and
- 40:58Speaker 1: then you're going to watch it because you couldn't rent
- 41:00Speaker 1: the good movie, so instead you're watching this thing.
- 41:02Speaker 5: Well, there were all the knockoffs.
- 41:04Speaker 2: We got the Indiana Jones at home, and this is
- 41:06Speaker 2: the version that you.
- 41:06Speaker 1: Have at home. This is the one your grandma buys
- 41:08Speaker 1: you for Christmas. Look, you love that Indiana Jones.
- 41:12Speaker 5: A lot of the movies weren't even so much Indiana Jones-es,
- 41:15Speaker 5: I don't think, but they... just kind of centered around
- 41:17Speaker 5: that whole adventure thing.
- 41:21Speaker 1: As long as you were wearing khaki and there was
- 41:24Speaker 1: a jungle or a desert or somewhere weird and exotic
- 41:27Speaker 1: that you could set this treasure hunt that you were on.
- 41:29Speaker 1: Good enough.
- 41:30Speaker 5: All the Alan Quartermain movies.
- 41:32Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 41:33Speaker 5: Romancing the Stone.
- 41:35Speaker 2: Firewalker.
- 41:36Speaker 5: Firewalker. Yeah, even Chuck Norris got in it with Lugasa Jr.
- 41:40Speaker 1: Lugasa Jr., yeah.
- 41:41Speaker 5: Yeah, that was an odd movie. That was the first
- 41:44Speaker 5: time he was actually trying to be funny.
- 41:46Speaker 1: You know and I don't know if it landed because
- 41:48Speaker 1: even at the time I remember watching that weird ricochet
- 41:51Speaker 1: scene I was like what what are we doing here
- 41:54Speaker 1: like Indiana Jones gets in some weird stuff but this
- 41:56Speaker 1: is almost getting.
- 41:57Speaker 6: Ridiculous well yeah I mean I watched it mainly because
- 42:01Speaker 6: I had Chuck Norris in it I was like oh
- 42:02Speaker 6: this is gonna be cool because it's gonna be like
- 42:04Speaker 6: Indiana Jones but like it's got Chuck Norris in it
- 42:07Speaker 6: and he can kick ass so but then it was
- 42:09Speaker 6: kind of He was trying to be funny.
- 42:11Speaker 1: Instead it was like a buddy comedy.
- 42:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 42:13Speaker 1: I was like. Set in that world. This is weird.
- 42:15Speaker 1: But I mean. I still think it's funny. But it's weird.
- 42:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 42:18Speaker 1: You know. It's definitely weird.
- 42:20Speaker 2: But.
- 42:21Speaker 1: So I assume that's what this was, was just like
- 42:23Speaker 1: a girl version. You know, we'll put a girl in
- 42:26Speaker 1: the lead and it'll be awesome.
- 42:27Speaker 2: Well, it's based on a UK comic book, I think,
- 42:29Speaker 2: or comic series.
- 42:30Speaker 1: That's where, yeah, that's where we're going. It also, like,
- 42:32Speaker 1: they were kind of, there's definitely a Perils of Pauline
- 42:36Speaker 1: that's like an old movie that they made from back
- 42:38Speaker 1: in the day that was kind of that same idea of, like,
- 42:41Speaker 1: she's at the center of it and it's an adventure
- 42:42Speaker 1: type of story that's also based on pre-existing stuff. I
- 42:48Speaker 1: assumed it was also going to lean closer towards the
- 42:52Speaker 1: because at that time you also worked in the way
- 42:55Speaker 1: more adult version because I definitely as a kid probably
- 42:58Speaker 1: way too young was watching the Perils of Gwendolyn did
- 43:02Speaker 1: you see the Perils of Gwendolyn in the Land of
- 43:05Speaker 1: the Yik Yak or whatever the hell the full title
- 43:07Speaker 1: was no because it's like Tawny Katane and oh don't
- 43:11Speaker 1: worry they're naked most of the movie like it's still
- 43:14Speaker 1: trying to be a weird adventure movie but It is
- 43:17Speaker 1: so much nudity.
- 43:18Speaker 2: It is ridiculous.
- 43:19Speaker 5: It was the 80s.
- 43:21Speaker 1: I assumed that's where it was going.
- 43:23Speaker 5: You know, I was thinking about it after we kind
- 43:26Speaker 5: of turned off the movie because we had to go
- 43:27Speaker 5: to bed. It was 3 o'clock in the morning.
- 43:29Speaker 1: And it was dumb.
- 43:30Speaker 5: I was like, you know, the 80s. I was trying
- 43:34Speaker 5: to tell Misty. I was like, this seems very Benny
- 43:37Speaker 5: Hill-ish to me.
- 43:39Speaker 2: Which to me is very British humor. And we all know.
- 43:43Speaker 2: How much I fucking hate British humor.
- 43:45Speaker 5: But I was going to say.
- 43:46Speaker 1: It's an acquired taste.
- 43:47Speaker 5: Yeah, I was going to say the 80s was kind
- 43:49Speaker 5: of a weird time. Like one of the movies that
- 43:52Speaker 5: I remember seeing that was kind of along the lines
- 43:56Speaker 5: of a ripoff movie, but then very much adult oriented
- 43:59Speaker 5: was like Death Stalker.
- 44:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 44:03Speaker 5: So it was kind of ripping off the Conan movies.
- 44:05Speaker 5: But again, Death Stalker's got a lot of.
- 44:07Speaker 2: But I enjoyed that. It was at least fun.
- 44:10Speaker 5: Yeah, it was fun because it wasn't British comedy that
- 44:13Speaker 5: you don't like. But I was thinking how things were
- 44:18Speaker 5: in the 80s. You know, I was like, this is
- 44:21Speaker 5: the comedy back then was a lot different.
- 44:23Speaker 2: And in.
- 44:25Speaker 5: Terms nowadays, people would look at it and just be like,
- 44:27Speaker 5: this is very much rape culture. You know, the way
- 44:31Speaker 5: things have changed.
- 44:32Speaker 1: Too much of that.
- 44:33Speaker 5: There was a lot of clothes.
- 44:35Speaker 1: Getting ripped off.
- 44:36Speaker 3: So.
- 44:37Speaker 2: Sam Jones, was that his name?
- 44:40Speaker 1: Yeah, Sam Jones.
- 44:40Speaker 2: He got fucking drugged, like they roofied him.
- 44:44Speaker 1: Yeah, there's a lot of that stuff going on that
- 44:48Speaker 1: I feel like, because there's a lot going on in
- 44:49Speaker 1: this that I'm like, I don't know that this would
- 44:51Speaker 1: go over well now.
- 44:52Speaker 2: Oh no, it wouldn't go over well at all. Let
- 44:53Speaker 2: alone in the 80s.
- 44:54Speaker 1: But also just the general, well... Again, fair warning when
- 44:59Speaker 1: you get into this. I hope by now you've already decided,
- 45:01Speaker 1: I don't need to watch that movie.
- 45:02Speaker 2: Don't watch this.
- 45:03Speaker 1: But if for some reason you take it upon yourself. Also,
- 45:06Speaker 1: the depiction of the natives. I'm like, oh, this seems
- 45:09Speaker 1: very racist.
- 45:10Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 45:11Speaker 1: It was like the way they're treating these guys is
- 45:13Speaker 1: not okay. Even though I think, I mean, they did
- 45:17Speaker 1: shoot it in this weird island. I think at the
- 45:21Speaker 1: time they were the only people. movie that had ever
- 45:23Speaker 1: shot there. It may have still been the only movie
- 45:25Speaker 1: they ever shot there. They may have ruined the whole
- 45:27Speaker 1: system there. But yeah, it was off the coast of
- 45:30Speaker 1: Madagascar or something, so it was legitimately off in the
- 45:34Speaker 1: middle of nowhere in the jungle, but it just seemed like,
- 45:37Speaker 1: I don't know that this is the right way for
- 45:39Speaker 1: these guys to be treated in this story, but whatever.
- 45:43Speaker 1: That was still pretty minimal compared to the... Also, the
- 45:46Speaker 1: other thing I don't feel like... The Nazi humor.
- 45:49Speaker 2: Again, slapsticky.
- 45:50Speaker 1: This is coming from an era when it was okay
- 45:53Speaker 1: to watch Hogan's Heroes, too. So, like, it was a
- 45:55Speaker 1: different time. You could still do that. But I'm like,
- 45:57Speaker 1: it's so casual the way it's just like Nazis, whatever.
- 46:02Speaker 1: Where now I don't feel like people treat that whole
- 46:04Speaker 1: topic like that.
- 46:05Speaker 5: This is something that's only been recent because I've gone
- 46:09Speaker 5: back and looked at Comic-Con or convention footage. And when
- 46:15Speaker 5: we were in Chicago... In the early 2000s, there were
- 46:21Speaker 5: people that were dressed up in cosplay and as Nazis.
- 46:25Speaker 5: And there was not anybody even batting an eye because
- 46:29Speaker 5: it was comedy.
- 46:31Speaker 1: Well, you know, that's a different world. Why I think
- 46:34Speaker 1: even then and they thought it was OK, because I
- 46:36Speaker 1: do I do remember seeing some stuff about this movie.
- 46:39Speaker 1: And then they were doing again. I bought the special edition.
- 46:42Speaker 1: Thank you very much. It came with a commentary that
- 46:45Speaker 1: I did listen to, and I have to say, the
- 46:46Speaker 1: commentary is way more interesting than the movie itself.
- 46:49Speaker 2: That would not take much. That bar is incredibly fucking low.
- 46:53Speaker 1: But they were talking about specifically the Nazi humor. They
- 46:57Speaker 1: were like, this, in general, not only at the time,
- 47:00Speaker 1: but specifically because this is a British production... That's kind
- 47:04Speaker 1: of how Britain operated because they were like in the
- 47:07Speaker 1: middle of it. Like, hell, they're getting bombed by Germany
- 47:09Speaker 1: back in the day. So like this stiff upper lip
- 47:13Speaker 1: way to deal with things is like, well, we can't
- 47:15Speaker 1: do much about it, but we're going to make light
- 47:18Speaker 1: of it. We're going to make jokes. And, like, it's okay.
- 47:20Speaker 1: So they didn't take it super serious because they dealt
- 47:22Speaker 1: with super serious for real when it was going on.
- 47:25Speaker 5: Well, yeah, they almost got completely wiped out.
- 47:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 47:27Speaker 5: I mean, it destroyed their city.
- 47:29Speaker 1: So I think they were discussing how, like, in Britain
- 47:33Speaker 1: it wasn't as big a deal. Like, we got super
- 47:35Speaker 1: serious about it in America. But, like, in Britain they
- 47:38Speaker 1: were just like, yeah, that sucked.
- 47:39Speaker 2: We were there.
- 47:40Speaker 1: And our only way of kind of compensating and trying
- 47:42Speaker 1: to deal with all that trauma, yeah, we're going to
- 47:45Speaker 1: make a joke. Granted, it's going to be British humor,
- 47:47Speaker 1: so it's not necessarily going to be funny, but that's
- 47:49Speaker 1: a matter of opinion. So yeah, again, I think the
- 47:53Speaker 1: story behind this is way more interesting. So you referenced why,
- 47:57Speaker 1: because that's the thing. I'm watching it, and in the
- 47:59Speaker 1: first five minutes or so, she gets her clothes yanked off.
- 48:03Speaker 1: And I was like, what the hell is this movie?
- 48:06Speaker 1: And again, at the time, I was already kind of
- 48:08Speaker 1: writing it off, but I didn't like that. And the
- 48:12Speaker 1: further I got into it, I was like, okay, now
- 48:13Speaker 1: that becomes the most charming thing about it as it
- 48:16Speaker 1: goes on. Because the rest of it isn't really funny. Like,
- 48:19Speaker 1: it's not really a great adventure movie. So by the end,
- 48:22Speaker 1: I was like, that almost becomes the fun part. Because
- 48:26Speaker 1: it's not only, it's based on a comic. It is
- 48:29Speaker 1: a comic strip created by Norman Pett. And it was
- 48:33Speaker 1: specifically for the British tabloid, The Daily Mirror. And it
- 48:37Speaker 1: ran from December of 32 all the way through October
- 48:41Speaker 1: of 59. But it was like full on during the
- 48:44Speaker 1: Germany years, like during the wartime years. He specifically made
- 48:49Speaker 1: this as a way to kind of deal with all that.
- 48:52Speaker 1: And it was, again, one of the subcultures that I've
- 48:55Speaker 1: always liked is like the bomber girls and like pinup
- 48:58Speaker 1: girls and like, it was drawing from all those things
- 49:01Speaker 1: so it specifically made the lead this attractive woman because
- 49:05Speaker 1: it was supposed to be like a distraction for the
- 49:07Speaker 1: the soldiers essentially like they're sending off these comics to
- 49:10Speaker 1: these guys and they're like here's something that'll cheer you
- 49:13Speaker 1: up here's a girl in her underwear yay which is
- 49:15Speaker 1: you know same thing they're painting on their planes so
- 49:17Speaker 1: like once again the behind the scenes is way more
- 49:20Speaker 1: interesting than this ridiculous movie because that's why it's like
- 49:25Speaker 1: that and in the comic she literally like it's it
- 49:28Speaker 1: was the racy adult comics before all the rest of
- 49:31Speaker 1: them before you get your little annie fannies and oh
- 49:34Speaker 1: wicked wandas that showed up decades later This was doing
- 49:38Speaker 1: a lighter version of that. It's just like, wouldn't it
- 49:41Speaker 1: be tantalizing if this woman was in her underwear all
- 49:43Speaker 1: of a sudden? And then that's what they did.
- 49:46Speaker 2: Over and over.
- 49:47Speaker 1: Over and over. So again, as the movie went on,
- 49:50Speaker 1: once I found that out, I was like, well, now
- 49:51Speaker 1: the running joke of that is almost... It's so ridiculous
- 49:55Speaker 1: that it happens. And it happens in one shot. Not
- 50:00Speaker 1: like a little piece comes off. The entirety of her
- 50:03Speaker 1: clothes is off in one second.
- 50:04Speaker 2: And like, I was like, how many fucking outfits did
- 50:06Speaker 2: she pack?
- 50:07Speaker 1: Obviously a lot. The more impressive thing, though, is every
- 50:11Speaker 1: time she's wearing the most beautiful set of underwears and
- 50:14Speaker 1: like stockings and garters, like, you know, all women wear. Like,
- 50:19Speaker 1: that's how you go around all the time. I'm sure
- 50:21Speaker 1: every woman out there. So to me, that stuff was
- 50:24Speaker 1: like so ridiculous that it was funny that like the
- 50:27Speaker 1: running joke of that. Coupled with, like, that's why it's here.
- 50:31Speaker 1: It's meant to be, like, a distraction for your soldier boys. Which, again,
- 50:35Speaker 1: isn't necessarily not sexist. But for the time it was
- 50:39Speaker 1: going on, it was an acceptable thing. So I found
- 50:42Speaker 1: all of that in the real world story to be interesting.
- 50:46Speaker 1: Unlike what was going on on screen. Which was not really.
- 50:48Speaker 1: Because it's a bad action movie. And the thing I
- 50:52Speaker 1: thought that was really weird is the fact that it
- 50:54Speaker 1: came out when it did. Because it's also right there
- 50:58Speaker 1: in the middle of the 80s. Now, it had a
- 51:00Speaker 1: weird resurgence. Like, there was also a TV series on
- 51:03Speaker 1: the BBC, like, right before this, or a couple years
- 51:06Speaker 1: before this, that was, like, almost, like, half animated. Like,
- 51:10Speaker 1: remember the old Spider-Mans that were on, like, Electric Company
- 51:13Speaker 1: that were, like, kind of a comic strip, but kind
- 51:15Speaker 1: of live-action, too?
- 51:16Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 51:17Speaker 1: Like, I watched these. They were, like, 10-minute little clips. Like,
- 51:20Speaker 1: they were, like, super short stories, and it was also
- 51:23Speaker 1: live-action people, but kind of standing in front of what
- 51:25Speaker 1: would be a drawing, and they'd do, like, comic book-y things.
- 51:28Speaker 1: And once again, she'd fall out of her clothes. So, like,
- 51:30Speaker 1: it did the same gimmick over and over again. But
- 51:33Speaker 1: it had, like, a weird resurgence there in the 80s.
- 51:35Speaker 1: And then they made this one movie, and that's all
- 51:37Speaker 1: that came of it. But I was like, this is
- 51:40Speaker 1: in the 80s when, granted, a little different in Britain.
- 51:44Speaker 1: But I'm like, you're also putting it out in a
- 51:46Speaker 1: system that's flooded with your porkies and your screwball and your, like,
- 51:53Speaker 1: your hots and every other thing that was on late night.
- 51:57Speaker 1: cable that like it's nothing but girls taking their clothes
- 52:00Speaker 1: off fully like this is like the biggest tease movie
- 52:04Speaker 1: you've ever seen because she never is not in her
- 52:07Speaker 1: underwear like it never fully commits to and this is
- 52:10Speaker 1: gonna be a hot sexy movie no it's just this
- 52:13Speaker 1: the gimmick of her in her underwear is it that's
- 52:16Speaker 1: the end of the joke and i'm like i can
- 52:18Speaker 1: see watching this and be like what the hell I
- 52:21Speaker 1: am a 12 year old boy and you're going to
- 52:22Speaker 1: make my head explode. Damn it. Are you going to
- 52:24Speaker 1: give me boobs or not? And then they don't. And like,
- 52:28Speaker 1: I don't know. On so many levels, this movie is weird.
- 52:31Speaker 5: Well, you were saying like 80s stuff. A lot of
- 52:35Speaker 5: the movies were like that. Even the teen movies. I
- 52:38Speaker 5: don't know if you remember the movie, Just One of
- 52:40Speaker 5: the Boys.
- 52:41Speaker 1: Oh yeah.
- 52:41Speaker 5: I saw that when I was probably in eighth grade,
- 52:47Speaker 5: eighth or, no, maybe I was a freshman at, at a,
- 52:51Speaker 5: party like that's I don't know it might have been
- 52:55Speaker 5: somebody's birthday party I don't remember but it was like
- 52:58Speaker 5: we were all just there it was like everybody from
- 53:01Speaker 5: the school like from that class we were all sitting
- 53:04Speaker 5: there watching it and there's that part where.
- 53:05Speaker 1: She like she has to prove she's.
- 53:07Speaker 5: A girl yeah she has to prove she's.
- 53:09Speaker 1: A girl it's totally important to the script.
- 53:10Speaker 5: Yeah yeah it's totally important to the script and you're
- 53:13Speaker 5: like just like what what did I just see you
- 53:15Speaker 5: know so yeah I was like and that was was
- 53:18Speaker 5: that a PG movie or was it PG.
- 53:20Speaker 1: 13 I it might have still, like I said before,
- 53:23Speaker 1: they still made things R that were kind of made
- 53:25Speaker 1: for kids back in the day. I think it was R,
- 53:27Speaker 1: but every kid in the world saw it because it
- 53:30Speaker 1: was on cable and you rented it at the video
- 53:32Speaker 1: store and nobody bothered to card you. And like, there
- 53:34Speaker 1: were just such little regard for that sort of thing.
- 53:37Speaker 5: Just one of the guys. Yeah. Not boys. Yeah.
- 53:41Speaker 1: Just one of the guys.
- 53:42Speaker 2: Then you had just one of the girls that had
- 53:44Speaker 2: Corey Hayman. Yeah.
- 53:45Speaker 1: Which is also pretty ridiculous.
- 53:48Speaker 5: I'm trying to figure out what.
- 53:50Speaker 1: But see, they did that... It's PG-13.
- 53:54Speaker 2: Is it?
- 53:55Speaker 1: Yeah. You definitely get the full-on money shot of being there.
- 53:58Speaker 1: At least of R-rated movies, which I guess this wasn't fully.
- 54:03Speaker 1: But see, that's back in the 80s when they would
- 54:05Speaker 1: do that. Because then you get to whatever the weird
- 54:08Speaker 1: Amanda Bynes one was that plays that exact same game,
- 54:11Speaker 1: and then she does it, but you don't see it
- 54:13Speaker 1: on screen. Because that was not the 80s anymore, and
- 54:16Speaker 1: they didn't do that stuff. So... It's like, even when
- 54:19Speaker 1: they made those kind of dumb movies, they didn't make
- 54:21Speaker 1: them that, that kind of movie anymore. The 80s was
- 54:26Speaker 1: its own weird special time. So, anyway, I don't know.
- 54:30Speaker 2: And then we got halfway through, and I'm like, where
- 54:31Speaker 2: the fuck did this dog come from? I didn't realize
- 54:33Speaker 2: she had the dog the whole time.
- 54:34Speaker 1: Fritz!
- 54:35Speaker 2: I was just, they were on a boat, like, where
- 54:37Speaker 2: the alligator people were. And I'm like, where the fuck
- 54:39Speaker 2: did this dog come from?
- 54:40Speaker 1: I mean, truthfully, Fritz was my favorite part.
- 54:42Speaker 2: I hadn't been watching, I hadn't been paying that much attention,
- 54:44Speaker 2: and I was just totally confused.
- 54:46Speaker 1: I mean, he didn't have much to do. He's just cute,
- 54:47Speaker 1: because he's a dog.
- 54:49Speaker 2: And he found Sam Jones where he's being passed out
- 54:53Speaker 2: and then the things, the candles are dropping shit on him.
- 54:57Speaker 1: Which again, and very also kind of, I mean, I
- 55:00Speaker 1: always kind of thought the Indiana Jones was sort of
- 55:03Speaker 1: the American, a little more rough and tumble 007. Like
- 55:06Speaker 1: he's just getting into like finding artifacts adventures versus spy stuff.
- 55:11Speaker 1: What was his name in this one?
- 55:13Speaker 2: It was so stupid. It was something, John or Jack something.
- 55:17Speaker 1: Jungle Jack.
- 55:18Speaker 2: No, because it came with a B. Because it was.
- 55:23Speaker 5: Jack Brock.
- 55:24Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 55:24Speaker 2: Because it had the very much... Jungle Jack Buck. Buck.
- 55:30Speaker 1: Jack Buck.
- 55:30Speaker 2: Jack Buck. And I'm just like, ugh, dude, really? Yeah.
- 55:33Speaker 3: Buck.
- 55:34Speaker 1: Jack Buck. Real cool. Yeah, I mean, but that was
- 55:38Speaker 1: when they did the death thing. It was like, or
- 55:39Speaker 1: you could just shoot him. Like, why would you leave
- 55:42Speaker 1: this elaborate series of candles and strings to take him
- 55:46Speaker 1: out instead of just put a bullet in his head
- 55:48Speaker 1: and be done with this? But that's true of every
- 55:50Speaker 1: Bond movie ever. So it's definitely playing on that little
- 55:53Speaker 1: like game of I'm going to be the villain, but
- 55:56Speaker 1: I'm going to do a really stupid thing now so
- 55:58Speaker 1: you can escape in a minute.
- 56:00Speaker 2: I was just, like, puzzled how Maude, was it Maude Adams?
- 56:03Speaker 1: Yeah, Maude Adams is the bad guy in this.
- 56:05Speaker 2: I'm like, is she a white Grace Jones? Because, like,
- 56:08Speaker 2: her cheekbones and, like, some of her outfits, I'm like,
- 56:10Speaker 2: she looks like Grace Jones, but white.
- 56:13Speaker 1: I mean, she has the distinction of being a Bond
- 56:16Speaker 1: girl twice.
- 56:17Speaker 2: Yeah, look that up.
- 56:18Speaker 1: Everybody likes her because she was double Bond.
- 56:20Speaker 2: I mean, she's beautiful, and Grace Jones is beautiful, but
- 56:22Speaker 2: they had, like, the same bone structure in the face.
- 56:24Speaker 3: Striking.
- 56:25Speaker 2: It was, and I'm just, like. It's a couple of
- 56:28Speaker 2: outfits she looked like Grace Jones in other movies, like
- 56:31Speaker 2: the whole headdress thing she had on at some point.
- 56:33Speaker 1: Maude did a lot of stuff, though. She worked pretty hard,
- 56:36Speaker 1: because I feel like that last Silent Night, Deadly Night
- 56:40Speaker 1: we watched, she was in, too. And it's not a
- 56:43Speaker 1: good one, let me tell you. Granted, they're all bad.
- 56:46Speaker 1: But this one is, like, going off the rails bad
- 56:49Speaker 1: by the time she shows up. So she worked a lot, Maude. So, yeah,
- 56:53Speaker 1: I don't know. I just thought it was such a
- 56:55Speaker 1: weird mixture of stuff. I will say, outside of the
- 56:58Speaker 1: dog being cool, the only other thing that I actually
- 57:01Speaker 1: legitimately liked and thought was well done, I don't think
- 57:04Speaker 1: you got to. Because towards the end, when they go
- 57:07Speaker 1: to the Lost City of Tichelure Level. Oh, yeah, we
- 57:09Speaker 1: did not make it to the Lost City. They meet
- 57:12Speaker 1: the Leopard Queen. Let's just say she's not what you expect.
- 57:17Speaker 1: specifically after the way that they've treated the other guys
- 57:21Speaker 1: in the little tribes and whatnot. When you get there,
- 57:24Speaker 1: like she is so entertaining and like, so not what
- 57:27Speaker 1: you expect that. I'm like, this is fun. I wish
- 57:30Speaker 1: the rest of the movie was as smartly written as
- 57:32Speaker 1: this little dynamic with her at the end of the movie.
- 57:35Speaker 1: And she's only in it for a little while and
- 57:37Speaker 1: then she's gone too.
- 57:38Speaker 2: So we didn't make it that far.
- 57:39Speaker 1: If you do bother to watch it, at least watch
- 57:42Speaker 1: the leopard queen. Cause she's cool. I liked her.
- 57:44Speaker 2: Just fast forward to that part.
- 57:46Speaker 1: Pretty much. You can pause if you want to see
- 57:48Speaker 1: her in her underwear, but other than that. Yeah, that's
- 57:52Speaker 1: what was funny, too. It's Kristen Hughes as Jane. She's, like,
- 57:55Speaker 1: several down on the list. Like, everybody else in the
- 57:57Speaker 1: movie that's not in the title is, like, a well-known person. Like, hey,
- 58:01Speaker 1: they were from that movie. That was from that. You
- 58:03Speaker 1: get to Kristen, and I'm like, oh, yeah, I don't
- 58:04Speaker 1: know her from anything. I even looked her up. She
- 58:06Speaker 1: did some TV around this time, and that was about it.
- 58:10Speaker 1: And even then, it was, like, a one-off episode. So, like.
- 58:13Speaker 1: She didn't have a massive career. She doesn't have a
- 58:15Speaker 1: photo on IMDb because she didn't work that much.
- 58:18Speaker 2: So it's weird that she did have a photo on
- 58:21Speaker 2: there would be in her underwear.
- 58:22Speaker 1: She is the titular Jane, but she's not in it
- 58:25Speaker 1: that much in the rest of her career anyway. Well,
- 58:29Speaker 1: I at least wanted to tell somebody about all the
- 58:31Speaker 1: other stuff that came along with it because that was interesting.
- 58:34Speaker 1: The movie, not so good. It was awful.
- 58:36Speaker 2: And I was so mad. I'm like, what the fuck?
- 58:40Speaker 1: I mean, As I told you about it, I told
- 58:42Speaker 1: you it was not a good movie. I just said
- 58:45Speaker 1: there were many things to talk about, which there were.
- 58:48Speaker 2: So too much British humor.
- 58:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't even get that vibe except the bad guy.
- 58:53Speaker 1: That annoying Nazi guy. Man, I did not like him.
- 58:57Speaker 2: Me neither.
- 58:58Speaker 1: His brand of comedy, I'm using air quotes there, was
- 59:01Speaker 1: not for me. And that is the closest thing that
- 59:03Speaker 1: was your standard British humor kind of nonsense.
- 59:06Speaker 2: Because immediate rage every time he came on the.
- 59:09Speaker 1: Screen because the other guys that were technically British were
- 59:12Speaker 1: just normal and like had normal conversations and didn't act
- 59:15Speaker 1: stupid he acted stupid every time he was on screen
- 59:18Speaker 1: and it was really annoying.
- 59:20Speaker 2: Especially the scene where he's sneaking up on her in
- 59:22Speaker 2: the shower.
- 59:22Speaker 1: Oh lord so dumb so dumb I was like oh.
- 59:26Speaker 2: My god this is beyond stupid yeah yeah I was
- 59:30Speaker 2: not a fan. Not a fan.
- 59:32Speaker 1: Really dumb.
- 59:34Speaker 2: You're lucky I made it that far into it because
- 59:36Speaker 2: I was about ready. I was going to rage quit.
- 59:38Speaker 2: I was just like, oh, dude, fuck this movie. I
- 59:40Speaker 2: even said to boyfriend, I'm like, is it me or
- 59:41Speaker 2: is this movie just un-fucking-tolerable?
- 59:43Speaker 1: Yeah, it's pretty bad. But again, as a story, it's interesting.
- 59:49Speaker 1: That's pretty much where I've gotten at this point. I
- 59:51Speaker 1: just want to talk about movies. I don't want to
- 59:52Speaker 1: have to watch them.
- 59:54Speaker 2: Well, you have to watch them so you know how
- 59:55Speaker 2: to talk about them.
- 59:57Speaker 1: Well, if we do have a tie-in, I'll get away
- 59:59Speaker 1: from the one that you hate. Thus, I figured because
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: we were where we were going, I was also watching
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: other stuff. This one I've been meaning to watch. I
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: watched The Mystic, which as a tie-in for the horror con,
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: I watched a Louisville-related horror movie because it is directed
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: by Todd Browning, who is from Louisville, damn it.
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: Oh, I didn't realize that.
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: Yeah, Todd Browning was born in Louisville.
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: Oh, I'll be damned.
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: Now, I think he got out of here as quickly
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: as possible because he had sips.
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: A lot of people do.
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: And he was also like following a girl into the circus,
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: which is the most Todd Browning thing ever. He was
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: just like, she's cute. She's in the circus. I'm going
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: to join the circus. And there you go. He's a
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: weird circus dude.
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: One of us.
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: Which also explains most of his movies because several of
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: his movies are very circus and carnival oriented. One of
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: which is The Mystic.
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: This is 1925, if you haven't seen it.
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: And it is... It's one of his early silent ones,
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: but I'll get back to that because this one, not
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: 100% silent. But yeah, it's basically just criminal imports and
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: a gang of Hungarian Romanies, I think we're supposed to
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: call them now. They were from over there in Europe somewhere.
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: The gypsies? We're not supposed to say gypsies. I know.
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: Anyway. But yeah, I think they call them Romanies from that.
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: And it's also like a bigger group. part of the world.
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: So it kind of incorporates more people the way it's
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: supposed to in this description. So they're basically just scamming
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: people over in Hungary. And this dude comes up and
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: is just like, hey, I've got a whole bunch of
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: money and I want to run a scam and you
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: guys would do great if you'd come back to New
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: York with me. And so he just bankrolls them. He's like, hey,
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: come back and do your scam. Which that's the most
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: amazing part is you're watching the beginning there and I'm
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: assuming he like went to Hungary to shoot this or
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: something because There's just this street scene, and I'm like,
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: this is like a window in time. Like, you're getting
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: a literal shot of all these extras out on a
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: street in Hungary in 1924 or whatever it is. And, like,
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: that's just amazing to me. Like, that's one of the
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: many things I'm, like, fascinated by with film is just, like,
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: the time stamp that you get on these things and
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: you get to see places that don't exist anymore and
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: are long gone, but we have a nice little snippet
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: here in the movie, so. I thought that was cool.
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: I also had a question. Okay. I brought it up
- 1:02:26Speaker 2: while we were walking around the convention. How weird would
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: it be to like your dad passes away?
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: Already not a good thing.
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: And then like you go to a convention and like
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: there's somebody there dressed up as your dad. How fucking
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: weird does that got to be? I mean, it's like.
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: I still say yes, it is weird. If you're also
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: the kind of person who's been around that person who
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: is your dad your whole life. And he is a
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: crazy person who is known for being a crazy person
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: and a beloved crazy person who did a lot of
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: weird things over the years and had a specific look
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: that was kind of easy to dress up like. I'd
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: say eventually you'd get kind of used to it because
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: it can't be the first time he's seen people dressed
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: like his dad.
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: Because, yeah, Jack Osborne was at the convention today, and
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: we're wandering around, and there's this guy who's very obviously
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: dressed up as Ozzy. And I'm like, Ozzy hasn't been
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: gone that long.
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: Pretty recent, yeah.
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: Let's say within the past year. Yeah, it's not that long.
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: Was it this year or last year that he passed away?
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: I can't keep track of all this.
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: I think it was the end of last year.
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: Either way, it's like, that's just fucking weird to me.
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: It is weird, I'll give you.
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: Because you brought up the correlation to, like, the Vincent
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: Price's daughter. But not many people are dressing up as
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: Vincent Price. Yes, there is so much, like, stuff that
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: has his image on it, but you're not going to
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: be sitting at a convention and somebody walks up dressed
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: as your dad.
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: Probably.
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: That's why I told you I remember asking Sarah Karloff that.
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: I was like, your dad is on everything. Like, is
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: it weird to see him? But also, like, she was,
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: you know, decades had passed since he was gone, you know,
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: so it was like something she was kind of eased
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: into over the years, I'm assuming. Although, really, even early on,
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: there was a lot of his imagery around, but over
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: the years, like, the universal monsters have become so huge.
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: And like... But again, that's seeing pictures of your parent.
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: And he's in full makeup, too.
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: That's not just seeing some guy walking around dressed up,
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: not as a character, but dressed up as your dad.
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: Yeah, because your dad was famous for being a real person,
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: specifically a reality show real person at one point in
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: his life, so that's as normal a thing as you
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: can get when you're Ozzy. That's the closest to a
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: real world existence as you get when you're Ozzy, because
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: Ozzy lived a not-so-normal life, we'll say, but Yeah, I mean,
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: it's a little weird, I'll give you.
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: So that would just be weird to me. Just the
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: whole concept. I'm just like, is it too soon?
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: Especially when it's a fresh wound like that, yeah.
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: Because, I mean, like I said, it's been really recent.
- 1:04:50Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: And you're just sitting there at your table, signing autographs,
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: and then here comes, you know.
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: But it's also funny that it's Ozzy, because, like, what
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: if it was a dude dressed like anybody else's dad?
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: They're wearing, like, a sweater vest and, like... old man
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: glasses and a fanny pack or like something you know
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: super dorky like everybody else's dad and like but this
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: one you know he's dressed in like a long black
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: coat and long hair and his cool round sunglasses so
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: of course he looked like cool ozzy and like you
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: can pull that off in the real world really let
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: alone at a horror convention.
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: Like yeah it was just it was strange to me
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: it's a little weird i will give you it seemed
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: kind of i wouldn't say tacky but just it's too soon.
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: Too soon It didn't make it better that it was
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: as soon as it was.
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: And it's like, it's just, you're just, you're just trying
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: too hard at that point. I mean, I didn't even
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: wear like an eerie Indiana shirt today. I could have,
- 1:05:41Speaker 2: but I didn't because that was trying too hard. And
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: it's not even, that just would have been like a
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: world of stuff shirt. It wouldn't have been like, here,
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: I'm your dad, you know.
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: It would be weird if you dressed up like that
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: guy's dad from eerie Indiana.
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: And then I wonder if that guy went up to
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: get his autograph or if he just wandered around like
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: looking like that.
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: You never know. You never, I'm sure somebody has gone
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: up to his table dressed like him, so.
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: But yeah, for a somewhat new convention here in the
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: Louisville area, because I mean, you said it might have
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: happened last year and we just missed it or something?
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: I feel like I've seen the ad for it before
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: and I just didn't know. Again, it was so new,
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: I just didn't know what was going on. But this
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: year I saw it and they had cool people and
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: I was like, yeah, I think we should.
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: Go check it out. Like I said, they had the
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: arm regrets.
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: And then I saw that connection. I was like, oh yeah,
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: send this over to Misty. Make sure she knows this
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: is going on. So yeah.
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: And that's how we ended up there.
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: I mean, it's still relatively small, which is nice compared
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: to some of the big ones we've gone to where
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: you can actually, like, not bump into 48 people. And
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: I do like that there was at least one booth
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: there that was selling deodorant.
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: Always a good step.
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: Nerd packaging.
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: People should plan ahead.
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: I'm telling you. And if they don't plan ahead, this
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: booth had you covered. But it's small. But, I mean,
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: I see it. I see it growing in the future.
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: There is one that takes place in, what, Evansville, Indiana?
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: Yeah, their main setup is in Evansville, I think, originally.
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: And I think there's one in St. Louis.
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: On the poster, yeah, they had three different cities. The
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: other one was St.
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: Louis, yeah.
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: So I can see it, like, growing in the future.
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: It's just starting out, which made it a nice experience.
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: Like I said, we got to talk to Omri Katz for,
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: I keep saying it, for, like, a good long time.
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: And then finally I started to feel bad. I'm like,
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: we probably could have talked to him a while longer.
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: He seemed like he was fine with it. Again, I've
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: seen people get that antsiness of like, okay, you need
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: to go now, bye. I've watched it. I might have
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: been there doing it sometimes. But most of the time
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: I'm next in line and I'm watching it and I'm like, oh,
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: this guy's going down a weird road.
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: Wrap it up, buddy.
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: But you didn't get that vibe from him today. He
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: was just hanging out, having a conversation. Like, hey, that's
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: what I'm here to do. He was super cool about it.
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: So yeah, that was fun.
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: I did like that he was honest about things. And
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: I'm like, so do you like meeting people or are
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: you just here for the money? He's like, well, maybe
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: a little bit of both. Maybe a little bit of both.
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: Job's a job, man.
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: I mean, I kind of understand that. But he seemed
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: like he was enjoying talking to people, too.
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: Because he could have just been like, all right, sign it.
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: All right, I got to go do stuff.
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: Again, just the fact that he wasn't sitting behind the table. Like,
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: he was just out there, standing there, talking to people,
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: having a conversation.
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: Because when we walked up, he was talking to some
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: other people.
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: He was already out there talking to somebody.
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: Else, yeah. And that makes for a good experience.
- 1:08:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: I think that's missing from a lot of like the
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: bigger conventions. And yeah, it sucks, I guess, for like
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: the people that you're not, you don't have that line.
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: You probably don't have that reassurance that this is something
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: you need to be doing. You know what I mean?
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: Is that making sense?
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: It's not overwhelming too. It's like, it's, it's a little
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: more relaxed version of that where you can enjoy having
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: a conversation.
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: Well, I feel bad too because half the tables we
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: walk by, I'm like, there's nobody at that guy's table.
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: There's nobody at that guy's, but I.
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: Mean, that's just kind of getting it going, you know?
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: But, I mean, Omri seemed like even if he didn't
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: have somebody in line, he was talking to somebody.
- 1:08:47Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: And then by the time we left and walked around
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: and came back, he had a line. Yeah, he had
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: a good line when we left. It wasn't just our
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: fault for talking too long.
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: It was after we left, and he had time for
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: all these other people to show up. So, yeah, he
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: had a good line when we left.
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: But he seemed like he was still taking time to
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: talk to everybody and when you get to these bigger
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: conventions where it just seems like it's rushed and you
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: have to like you have like all right here here
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: sign 20 seconds.
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: To come up with a thing that you want to
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: say to this person and then they hand you your
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: photo and you're out of.
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: There yeah so i mean i don't it's good to
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: be able to enjoy conventions in their early days I mean,
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: it's good. I understand it being better for the convention
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: and better for the celebrities and better for everybody all
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: around when they have a bigger turnout. But also, it's
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: also a downside, too, because then you don't get that
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: personal experience.
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: It's a different experience when it's packed like that.
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: Because I remember definitely in the earlier years, before they
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: got big, you would have time. And you could talk
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: to the celebrities. And it wasn't that rush that.
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: Okay next next next next.
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: A series of people that i'm just auto pinning this
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: thing and handed it to you yeah yeah it's a different.
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: Experience and he did ask for all of our names
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: yeah he did and i'm like you're gonna forget you're
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: gonna forget by the time we walk away aren't you
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: he's like maybe probably but you.
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: Know he made an effort so he was yeah he
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: was super engaged.
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: And like uh he was super nice it was enjoyable
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: it was worth the uh experience I'm glad that it
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: was a convention, like I said, that was smaller, that
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: we got to have that experience. I hope, you know,
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: are able to grow their, you know, the size if
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: that's what they want. Yeah. You know, if they would like,
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: you know, again, it's cool having a small one, but
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: I understand them wanting to be able to grow and
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: have that bigger experience where you have the bigger names
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: and you have the bigger space. But then, like I said,
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: you lose a lot of the personal experience. like interactions.
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: This gives you time to kind of connect with the people.
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: So that's, I think that's important too. I think it's
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: finding a balance between all of that.
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: And a lot of conventions have totally lost sight of that.
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: It's just like, how much money can we make off this?
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: Fuck anybody's personal shit. We want money and that's it.
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: Which again, as somebody running a business, I mean, it
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: makes sense.
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: I get it. Like it's how you keep the thing going.
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: I understand. But at the same time, like you, it,
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: The shine wears off of it after a while. And
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: you're just like, oh, here they are again doing that
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: thing they do. And like, once the ball gets rolling,
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: it picks up, you know, it's a giant snowball. It
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: just gets bigger and bigger as the years go on.
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: So it's like, yeah, this is heading towards you now.
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: And you got to do all that stuff you did
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: last year, only bigger and more crazy.
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: Like I said, we've gone to a lot of conventions.
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: A lot.
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: And I got to say, this was one of the
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: more enjoyable ones for me just because, again, you got
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: that time. Yeah. You know, it wasn't a crowd. You
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: got to look at stuff.
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: Got to walk around and look at stuff. There was
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: a good amount of merchandise there and different stuff that
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: we hadn't seen. And, like, yeah, it was a good
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: selection of stuff. And you got time to look at it.
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: And it's like with a convention that's newer, you get
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: to enjoy that before you know, well, this probably isn't
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: going to last. Enjoy it while it still stays small.
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: And even at the bigger convention, there are celebrities that
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: take time.
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: Yeah, it depends on who they are and then what
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: the setup is. But sometimes, yeah. It still holds true
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: if you can find the right person. He was definitely
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: one of those.
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: But if we see him again in like five years
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: and he's at like a big convention, is it going
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: to be the same experience?
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: Will he remember your name?
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: Oh, God, no. He'll be like, Misty, how have you been?
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: I guarantee he's already forgot it.
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: I don't know what you're talking about. He totally asked
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: for your name.
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: He was so nice.
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: He was very nice.
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: So if anybody out there gets the chance and you
- 1:12:29Speaker 2: see Omri Katz at a convention, fucking go do it.
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: Give him your money. He's nice.
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: Talk to him.
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: See if he'll sell you some drugs. Don't do that.
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: I'm joking. Legally.
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: That was a joke. Not like in the parking lot later. Like,
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: go on through.
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: Make sure you are in a state. Yeah. That allows
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: such things. He's not a dealer. He does it. It's
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: all legit. Police, don't go looking for him. He's a
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: good guy. It's fine.
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: If it's all above board, it's cool. That's the state
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: of the world we live in.
- 1:12:58Speaker 2: Seriously, though. Good guy.
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: Very cool.
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: Well, there you go.
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: You think we managed to get enough out of that
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: episode talking about that movie?
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: We did. Okay, good.
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: That movie sucked.
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: I mentioned another one. That one's really cool.
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: I haven't seen that one.
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: I was going to say, the thing that was different
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: about that, though, it is like it's 1925. It's a
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: silent movie. But this version, so I don't know if,
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: I'm sure originally it wasn't like that. Somewhat recently, in
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: the last couple years, they put it out on Criterion. And, like,
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: this version not only has, like, music, because most of them,
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: they add in music, you know, that's sometimes more modern,
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: but they added in, like, sound effects and, like, general noise. So, like,
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: it's not, well, no, I mean, like, it's not quiet
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: the whole time. Like, sometimes there's just that dead silence,
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: or even with the music, it's still kind of, like,
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: all this dead downtime. They add in dialogue. Well, I mean,
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: they added, like, he goes up to the little, they're in, like,
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: a weird little, like, almost like a train car kind
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: of a thing that all the traveling performers have their
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: little places it's like freaks basically they all still have
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: their little cart where they have set up that they
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: live in and he walks up and you get they
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: added in a foley noise of knocking exactly when he
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: knocks like somebody sat there and perfectly did it like
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: a foley job just for this thing and then you
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: get to later when they go to New York they're
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: in this big room with these tile floors And there's
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: like footsteps on the tile floors as they're walking back
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: and forth. And there's in the beginning where they're with
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: the crowd that's watching them. They're watching like a tightrope walker.
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: And there's all these people like mulling around. There's all
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: these crowd noise that's going on. It's like not dead silence.
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: It's just like what you would be hearing in the
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: scene normally. And then even the weirdest one I feel
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: like was there's when he gets ready to start the
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: seance that they do in this thing. He has the
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: there's a specific the dad that kind of runs the
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: thing while she's doing the scam. He has like a
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: song that he tells them to sing. And there's a
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: recorded song that comes on that's multiple. And it actually
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: fits like it's not it's the right amount of people
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: singing it. It's sort of at the right level that
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: seems like a room full of people singing, not like
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: a choir. Like they put a lot of work into
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: matching up the things that they added in with what
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: was going on on screen. It was pretty impressive, I
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: have to say. Like, you don't always get that from
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: your silent film. So, they put some work into this thing.
- 1:15:28Speaker 3: So, yeah.
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: If you haven't seen it. I haven't. Louisvillian Todd Browning
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: made an awesome movie. So, go check it out. Todd.
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: That's not his actual name.
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: Why would you go by the name Todd if that's
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: not your real name? I don't know.
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: Because I looked it up and I was just like, why?
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: He's got three names, none of which are Todd. What
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: the hell is that about? So, very strange.
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: What is his real name?
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: Hold on. Now I've got to look it up. I
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: knew I should have put.
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: It in there. Charles Albert Brownian Jr.
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: There you go. See, there's a lot of names there,
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: none of which are Todd. Todd.
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: Well, this being before George Carlin, maybe Todd wasn't the
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: name that it is now.
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: I mean, Todd's fine, really.
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: You know what I'm talking about, though? The whole thing
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: with George Carlin talking about stupid names. That's one of
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: his main grievances is the name Todd.
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: He called out a lot of... stupid things in the way. Todd, Tanner.
- 1:16:21Speaker 5: What was the other one?
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: Yeah, he made fun of several names.
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: George Carlin did that. He made fun of things. I
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: thought it was cool that Todd made that movie. And
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: it's pretty good. The weird thing I looked up for
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: our last Louisville tie-in. This is weird. I had no idea. Again,
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: I don't really pay attention to local sporty bullshit. But
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: the Todd Browning thing brought me to this. He grew
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: up here in Louisville. His father, Charles, is the brother
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: of old Pete Browning, who is a three-time batting champ
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: who stole 103 bases in 1887. He stole them.
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: What did he do with them?
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: But more importantly, Pete commissioned a bat, and he was
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: the first person, I guess, to have a bat commissioned
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: for him, and he was basically the start of the
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: Hillerich and Bradsby Bat Company, which is the people who
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: made the Louisville Slugger. So basically, you wouldn't have the
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: Louisville Slugger if it weren't for the Browning family and
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: all their contributions thereof. So, not only a badass film director,
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: but his family.
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: He's a badass family. Bat, get it? It's been a
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: long day.
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: He didn't make The Bat. That's a different movie. Anyway,
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: his family is the reason we have Louisville Sluggers. So,
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: I thought that was pretty epic. Now you can beat
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: somebody's ass with one of those bats. So there we go.
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: There's our fun facts.
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: Learn something new every day. Yeah.
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: Learned about a really cool comic strip that they made
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: a movie out of.
- 1:17:58Speaker 2: A fucking awful movie.
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: And I learned Todd Browning is super cool and his
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: family is responsible for baseball bats. So there you go.
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: And also that we have a cool new convention.
- 1:18:10Speaker 3: So.
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: Theirs, again, came from Evansville. So to go find out
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: more about them, it is EvansvilleHorror.com slash LouisvilleHorror if you're

- 1:18:22Speaker 1: Evansville is EvansvilleHorror.com. So go there and you can find
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: out about all of their different conventions. So, yeah, go
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: check them out. They put together a good show.

- 1:18:48Speaker 1: Otherwise, that about does it. We will return next time.
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: Same geek feed. Thanks for listening.
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: Bye.
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: Bye-bye.
- 1:19:14Speaker 7: Bye.
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: Bye. I live on boring streets.
- 1:19:35Speaker 4: You can walk right down and never notice.
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: Me. I'm starved for company.
- 1:19:42Speaker 7: Not a big white house or a wedding ring.
- 1:19:48Speaker 4: I always wanted a magazine world where everybody wants to
- 1:19:57Speaker 4: look like me.
- 1:20:00Speaker 7: And hey, I'm eating.
- 1:20:18Speaker 4: Everything in sight Well, don't curse this vanity I should.
- 1:20:33Speaker 7: Be God curse this vanity.
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: I could be very.
- 1:20:48Speaker 2: Gentle Ooh, and then they have the RaptorCon. Is that
- 1:21:11Speaker 2: a fucking dinosaur convention?
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: Dinosaurs will come to your house.
- 1:21:15Speaker 2: That's Evansville's coolest pop culture event. So what's up? It
- 1:21:20Speaker 2: doesn't have necessarily just dinosaurs. I'm going to look at
- 1:21:23Speaker 2: the guests, and if they're not dinosaur guests, I'm going
- 1:21:25Speaker 2: to be so disappointed.
