- 0:01Speaker 1: With Jacob Hester and Matt Flynn.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Okay, here we go.
- 0:04Speaker 3: Where the plays get broken down and science gets denied. Dude,
- 0:07Speaker 3: they said I gotta come off the bench. Hour two
- 0:09Speaker 3: of Off the Bench, live from the Raising Cane Studio.
- 0:36Speaker 4: All right, we're back in OTB hour number two here
- 0:47Speaker 4: live from the Raising Cane studio.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Got Dr. Steven Etheridge as he joins us every single
- 0:51Speaker 3: Wednesday at 8 a.m. Doc, how we doing? How we living?
- 0:54Speaker 3: Not the best weekend, but we're recovering. We're getting there.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Well, your hoodie looks great. I appreciate that.
- 0:59Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:01Speaker 2: A little casual today, you know? Doesn't that tiger have
- 1:03Speaker 2: a name?
- 1:03Speaker 3: Sailor Mike? I can't see it. Yeah, Sailor Mike. Oh, yeah,
- 1:06Speaker 3: Sailor Mike.
- 1:07Speaker 2: What do we call him?
- 1:08Speaker 5: Sailor Mike?
- 1:09Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:10Speaker 2: I like it.
- 1:10Speaker 6: Right?
- 1:11Speaker 3: Yeah. Okay.
- 1:11Speaker 2: That sounds right to me.
- 1:12Speaker 6: Y'all made me feel like I.
- 1:13Speaker 2: No, no, no.
- 1:13Speaker 3: You're good. No, no, no.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Sailor Mike. That's it.
- 1:16Speaker 3: I like it. That's it. Matt didn't know.
- 1:19Speaker 2: He don't know. I just want to ask the question.
- 1:21Speaker 3: I didn't know either, so that... You don't know, Paul.
- 1:23Speaker 3: No such thing as a stupid question.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Well, this is real dumb.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Yeah, true. All right, Doc, did not go well, as
- 1:30Speaker 3: you said. I mean, you had a rough one. Friday night,
- 1:32Speaker 3: Florida State gets hammered by Louisville. It started off good,
- 1:36Speaker 3: you know. It started in. Driving, almost had a chance
- 1:39Speaker 3: to go up 21. It started well. They did not.
- 1:42Speaker 3: It was good until it wasn't.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Yeah, it was.
- 1:44Speaker 3: It was good until it wasn't. And then, you know,
- 1:47Speaker 3: Saturday happened. Unfortunately, LSU loses in overtime 35-34. A game
- 1:54Speaker 3: in which had a lot of swings. Felt like, okay, yeah,
- 1:57Speaker 3: well– Kentucky's, and then here comes LSU, and here comes Kentucky.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Then LSU looked like they were about to close it out,
- 2:02Speaker 3: and they didn't. Kentucky wins.
- 2:07Speaker 7: I might not go back to Lexington for a while. Yeah,
- 2:09Speaker 7: my last two Lexington trips. My last three. Yeah, I
- 2:12Speaker 7: went there three times ago. But the last two, Lexington,
- 2:15Speaker 7: we were just talking about, lovely city, wonderful place. But, yeah,
- 2:19Speaker 7: it wasn't a good time either time for me.
- 2:23Speaker 2: I don't feel like I saw you as much, though. Yeah,
- 2:25Speaker 2: when it was busy. So I was happy to see that.
- 2:27Speaker 3: Yeah, a little action, but nothing too crazy. That's always good.
- 2:30Speaker 2: A little action, okay. All right.
- 2:32Speaker 8: Yeah, I was happy not to see it. But, okay,
- 2:35Speaker 8: there is some big implications this week for the next game.
- 2:41Speaker 8: We've got to look ahead a little bit, right? Some
- 2:43Speaker 8: big implications from the opponent, Mississippi State. They're dealing with
- 2:47Speaker 8: some different injuries. We don't even know exactly the extent
- 2:50Speaker 8: of them, what they are. I think injury report is
- 2:52Speaker 8: going to come out later today. but their quarterback might
- 2:55Speaker 8: be dealing rumors swirling about what we like.
- 2:59Speaker 2: We called death toe. That's around here. We call it
- 3:03Speaker 2: a turf toe, a little too cute of a name.
- 3:05Speaker 8: Now we went into detail about that last week, but
- 3:07Speaker 8: let's just talk about from the quarterback position. I'm assuming
- 3:09Speaker 8: different injuries. You're going to look at them differently as
- 3:12Speaker 8: a doctor based on the position you play. So quarterback
- 3:16Speaker 8: might be able to play with something that a receiver
- 3:18Speaker 8: can or alignment can or something like that. So, When
- 3:21Speaker 8: you look at something, an injury, let's just say, let's
- 3:25Speaker 8: talk about turf toe again, or death toe, as we
- 3:27Speaker 8: call it, and you're a quarterback, can you use this
- 3:31Speaker 8: something that you might be able to play through a
- 3:34Speaker 8: little bit more than somebody that's moving full speed every
- 3:37Speaker 8: single play and cutting?
- 3:39Speaker 3: You know, I think probably.
- 3:41Speaker 7: With this injury, we talked about it, the big toe,
- 3:44Speaker 7: and you have this ligament kind of complex on the
- 3:46Speaker 7: bottom of the toe, this kind of planter plate. And
- 3:49Speaker 7: in severe cases, you can pull it completely from basically
- 3:51Speaker 7: the foot off of the toe. That's kind of the
- 3:53Speaker 7: most extreme version. And then, you know, it goes all
- 3:56Speaker 7: by severity. Your grades, you know, one, two, three, the
- 3:58Speaker 7: things we talk about a lot with a lot of injuries. And, yeah,
- 4:01Speaker 7: if you're not having to run as much, you know,
- 4:03Speaker 7: if you're maybe not a defensive back where you're up
- 4:05Speaker 7: on your toes all the times, you probably have a
- 4:07Speaker 7: little bit more ability to play with that injury. But
- 4:11Speaker 7: there's always going to be a point. Because, I mean,
- 4:12Speaker 7: a quarterback, you know, you've got to still plant off
- 4:15Speaker 7: your foot. You're going to have to kind of cut.
- 4:16Speaker 7: You're going to have to move around the pocket. You're
- 4:18Speaker 7: going to have to. you know, part of his game
- 4:20Speaker 7: is his athletic ability. And you're, you're taking that part
- 4:22Speaker 7: away potentially if it's bad enough.
- 4:25Speaker 3: So, you know, you can, you can tape it up.
- 4:26Speaker 7: You can put a little, you know, insole that gives
- 4:29Speaker 7: a little bit more rigidity to the, to the bottom
- 4:30Speaker 7: of the foot and things like that that can help.
- 4:33Speaker 3: But at the end of the day, you know, there's
- 4:35Speaker 3: only so much you can do.
- 4:36Speaker 7: And even though it's just a toe, as we kind
- 4:37Speaker 7: of have joked for it, like you got to plan
- 4:39Speaker 7: off that, that's where a lot of your power, your
- 4:41Speaker 7: force and all that comes from. And, So, I think it's,
- 4:44Speaker 7: and I think I was listening earlier, you were talking
- 4:45Speaker 7: about his footwork. Well, a big part of your game,
- 4:47Speaker 7: you have great footwork, but your foot's not working.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Right.
- 4:50Speaker 3: You know, there could be a problem there, so.
- 4:52Speaker 9: Huh.
- 4:55Speaker 8: And to recap, kind of last week, again, talking about
- 4:57Speaker 8: the turf tote, there's no, like, specific time. So, they're
- 5:02Speaker 8: coming off, you know, a little bit of rest here
- 5:04Speaker 8: for him, but. You know, so it's kind of like
- 5:06Speaker 8: a hamstring, right? It can be two weeks. It can
- 5:08Speaker 8: be two months. It just like kind of depends on
- 5:10Speaker 8: the individual and the healing process and how the severity
- 5:13Speaker 8: of it, which we obviously, we're not going to know
- 5:15Speaker 8: the severity of it, but you'll have kind of an
- 5:17Speaker 8: idea based on if he's out, how long is he out?
- 5:21Speaker 8: You'll kind of have that. You'll have a little bit
- 5:23Speaker 8: more knowledge about the severity of that turf too.
- 5:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:26Speaker 7: I think especially when we have the benefit of hindsight,
- 5:28Speaker 7: you know, we don't know if he's going to play
- 5:29Speaker 7: this week. If he's not even able, if we see
- 5:31Speaker 7: him on the sideline, he's still in a boot and
- 5:33Speaker 7: he's still limping around. That's a lot different than if
- 5:35Speaker 7: he's out there in warm-ups and able to move around
- 5:37Speaker 7: pretty good. We probably aren't going to really know for
- 5:40Speaker 7: sure until Saturday. The injury reports come out, and there's
- 5:43Speaker 7: a little gamesmanship there. Guys can get better in a
- 5:46Speaker 7: few days.
- 5:46Speaker 8: Or.
- 5:48Speaker 3: We'll see. That's an injury that it feels like I've
- 5:54Speaker 3: seen 10 people have it in 10 different return times
- 5:57Speaker 3: on that one. It's a little bit like the one
- 5:59Speaker 3: that I wanted to ask you about in Jordan Tyson
- 6:02Speaker 3: for the New Orleans Saints because We're heading into week
- 6:05Speaker 3: six of the NFL season, and he's been out, I
- 6:08Speaker 3: think it was about two weeks left in training camp
- 6:10Speaker 3: because it was the day that we went, and I
- 6:12Speaker 3: think that was middle of August. Hurts his hamstring, and
- 6:16Speaker 3: here we are week number six, and Kayla Moore said
- 6:18Speaker 3: on Monday that Tyson is progressing well but isn't on
- 6:22Speaker 3: track to return to practice this week. So we're talking
- 6:25Speaker 3: now week seven. Again, I was not explosive enough to
- 6:29Speaker 3: hurt my hamstring in this way, But it must have
- 6:32Speaker 3: been pretty bad to go into, we're talking about close
- 6:36Speaker 3: now to 10 weeks of not being able to go
- 6:38Speaker 3: out there and perform.
- 6:39Speaker 2: 10 weeks, for real?
- 6:40Speaker 3: Well, because think about it. You're going into week seven
- 6:42Speaker 3: of the NFL. It happened about August 16th, 17th.
- 6:46Speaker 7: And, yeah, hamstrings, there's a lot of variability there as well.
- 6:51Speaker 7: I mean, that's a long time for a hamstring. You're
- 6:53Speaker 7: going to see most guys coming back sooner. I would
- 6:57Speaker 7: have to assume probably at least what we'd say a
- 6:58Speaker 7: high-end grade, too. And then, again, some of it, again,
- 7:02Speaker 7: goes back to the question earlier, what position is the guy?
- 7:04Speaker 7: How much is he going to be running? How explosive
- 7:06Speaker 7: is he? You know, if he's that super fast guy
- 7:08Speaker 7: like he is, you know, he's going to put more
- 7:10Speaker 7: stress on it than other guys might.
- 7:11Speaker 3: He's got a history of having had previous hamstring issues.
- 7:14Speaker 7: So, I mean, that plays into it as well, how
- 7:15Speaker 7: much scarring and other previous injuries could have something to
- 7:18Speaker 7: do with it. And then, you know, look, you know,
- 7:21Speaker 7: he's a first-round draft pick. I'm sure there's a level
- 7:23Speaker 7: of being extra cautious. You don't want to lose this
- 7:25Speaker 7: guy before he's ever had a.
- 7:26Speaker 3: Chance to play.
- 7:27Speaker 7: And, look, hamstrings in New Orleans in the past several
- 7:30Speaker 7: years have not been good bedfellows.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Have you ever seen a hamstring end a career?
- 7:35Speaker 3: I've seen it, at the very least, change a career.
- 7:38Speaker 7: You know, I can think of at least one or
- 7:39Speaker 7: two guys that maybe never quite came back.
- 7:43Speaker 3: Now, these were on the extreme end.
- 7:44Speaker 8: Yeah, and I didn't ask that question following just, like,
- 7:48Speaker 8: Jordan Tice. I asked it based on a response, like,
- 7:51Speaker 8: your response about, like, you want to be careful with
- 7:53Speaker 8: a kid, like, obviously he's young. That's, that's not a
- 7:56Speaker 8: question based on him. I'm just at a certain point
- 8:00Speaker 8: as you get older and you've had these issues, have
- 8:02Speaker 8: you ever seen one just like rip so bad?
- 8:05Speaker 7: It was like, yeah, that's kind of, I mean, I've seen,
- 8:08Speaker 7: I've seen a couple of pretty bad ones. And, and
- 8:10Speaker 7: like I said, at the, if it's one year, if
- 8:11Speaker 7: you're going to have surgery or a parrot, if it's
- 8:14Speaker 7: that bad and they are, there are that the ones
- 8:16Speaker 7: that get that severity with any surgery, it's not a
- 8:19Speaker 7: hundred percent guarantee. You're going to come back to your
- 8:21Speaker 7: previous level of, of performance. And so in that scenario,
- 8:25Speaker 7: you know, if you get to that level, at the
- 8:29Speaker 7: very least, it.
- 8:29Speaker 3: Might make him a little less explosive.
- 8:31Speaker 7: Maybe he's still a good receiver, but the potential to
- 8:33Speaker 7: be great maybe just went out the door.
- 8:34Speaker 8: What would surgery to repair a hamstring, like what does
- 8:39Speaker 8: that look like? What do you tie to what?
- 8:42Speaker 7: Yeah, so most of the ones we're repairing are going
- 8:43Speaker 7: to be the ones when they, not so much the mid-substance.
- 8:45Speaker 3: So if you tear the muscle, those are pretty much
- 8:47Speaker 3: injuries we've got to let heal. They do their best.
- 8:49Speaker 2: They scar.
- 8:49Speaker 3: And sometimes there's even some permanent defects.
- 8:51Speaker 7: But those people still typically do okay with. the closer
- 8:54Speaker 7: you get to the ends of the hamstring, so the
- 8:56Speaker 7: origin and the insertion, so kind of right there at
- 8:58Speaker 7: the lower buttock or down at the knee. Those are
- 9:01Speaker 7: when you have a surgery. A lot of times they're reattached.
- 9:04Speaker 3: To the bone if it pulls off the bone, basically.
- 9:06Speaker 7: So those are the ones that on the extreme end
- 9:09Speaker 7: you're going to typically be doing surgery for.
- 9:12Speaker 3: I mean, because the Saints right now, they're dealing with
- 9:15Speaker 3: Travis Achan's got a hamstring, Jordan Tyson's got a hamstring.
- 9:19Speaker 3: It has certainly been an issue for the New Orleans Saints.
- 9:22Speaker 3: And then we talked about it with, kelvin banks i
- 9:25Speaker 3: believe he had the tightrope procedure which is kind of
- 9:27Speaker 3: coming back in vogue a little bit yeah it feels
- 9:29Speaker 3: like it feels like that one kind of goes in
- 9:30Speaker 3: waves a little bit yeah.
- 9:32Speaker 7: And i think you know i don't think it's one
- 9:33Speaker 7: that we've ever really gone away from once we started
- 9:36Speaker 7: doing them as much as i think it just seems
- 9:38Speaker 7: like there are times when there are more of those
- 9:40Speaker 7: injuries i feel like it's more that um because it's
- 9:43Speaker 7: like we've had guys and the funny thing is you
- 9:45Speaker 7: know the one everybody talks about is way back with
- 9:47Speaker 7: two and stuff but it was a procedure that that
- 9:49Speaker 7: we had done prior to that and that other people
- 9:51Speaker 7: had done.
- 9:52Speaker 3: It just, it does feel like that was like the
- 9:53Speaker 3: first time it's ever been.
- 9:54Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 9:55Speaker 7: It kind of came across that way, but it was,
- 9:56Speaker 7: you know, it was starting quarterback, Alabama, you know, Nashville,
- 10:00Speaker 7: a lot of things so in that that moment it
- 10:02Speaker 7: was very in in in the spotlight and then yeah
- 10:05Speaker 7: you had this guy had surgeries coming back and playing
- 10:06Speaker 7: a few weeks later it's kind of crazy.
- 10:11Speaker 3: Oh doc how do we feel about 11 a.m kickoff
- 10:14Speaker 3: in tiger stadium.
- 10:16Speaker 7: You know, I have mixed feelings, you know, you'd be
- 10:18Speaker 7: done as a professional who works every game for the past.
- 10:22Speaker 7: I'm kind of excited, you know, uh, two weeks in
- 10:24Speaker 7: a row, actually we get 11 o'clock kicks and especially
- 10:26Speaker 7: road games.
- 10:27Speaker 3: Give me the 11 o'clock all day.
- 10:28Speaker 7: I know, I know the home game 11 o'clock is
- 10:30Speaker 7: not a popular sentiment around, uh, Tiger stadium. I'm not
- 10:33Speaker 7: upset about it, but, uh, I'm hoping that everybody gets there,
- 10:37Speaker 7: you know, for, for all our fans, you know, I
- 10:39Speaker 7: don't know if you do like a Bayou brunch or something,
- 10:41Speaker 7: get y'all out there early, get your mimosas, get your
- 10:43Speaker 7: bloody Mary's get, get rolling. But, uh, I hope everybody
- 10:47Speaker 7: gets there. That's the only thing I worry about.
- 10:48Speaker 3: I don't even know what time. I'm doing the broadcast.
- 10:50Speaker 3: I'm like, the hell time am I supposed to be there?
- 10:53Speaker 2: What time am I going to wake up?
- 10:56Speaker 3: I'm so used to night games. I'm like, I know.
- 10:58Speaker 3: All right, I'm going to be in the booth about 6.15
- 11:01Speaker 3: to 6.20, depending on the slide. That's when I'm going
- 11:03Speaker 3: to start and give the starting lineups and everything. I'm like,
- 11:06Speaker 3: the hell, I don't know.
- 11:07Speaker 7: I usually come in five or six hours before the
- 11:09Speaker 7: kickoff for treatments. I don't see them wanting me showing
- 11:13Speaker 7: up at the stadium at 5 a.m.
- 11:15Speaker 3: I don't see that one happening. I'm hoping not. So, yeah,
- 11:19Speaker 3: it's always going to be a little different schedule.
- 11:21Speaker 2: I'm going to have to go to sleep when Alondra
- 11:25Speaker 2: goes to sleep.
- 11:25Speaker 3: That's true.
- 11:26Speaker 2: When the sun goes down.
- 11:27Speaker 3: When the sun goes down.
- 11:30Speaker 8: Doc, I don't know if you've seen this, but a
- 11:32Speaker 8: lot of people's power rankings in the NFL, San Francisco
- 11:35Speaker 8: 49ers are number one on that list. Is this a
- 11:39Speaker 8: situation where the electrical substation, although it took a couple
- 11:43Speaker 8: of years, it broke their bodies down, it might have
- 11:46Speaker 8: built them up to superhuman strength?
- 11:49Speaker 7: I feel like you look at a lot of these
- 11:51Speaker 7: backstories on a lot of superheroes, there's something weird that happened.
- 11:54Speaker 2: There is weird, right.
- 11:54Speaker 3: And sometimes it does break them down.
- 11:55Speaker 2: I think even Peter Parker got sick, right?
- 11:57Speaker 3: He got really sick with the spider, and then all
- 11:59Speaker 3: of a sudden here he is, Spider-Man.
- 12:01Speaker 8: Is there anything that you studied in medical school or
- 12:05Speaker 8: seen in the medical that would prove that otherwise?
- 12:07Speaker 2: That could 100% say no.
- 12:10Speaker 3: I do not have anything that is 100%.
- 12:12Speaker 2: There's a chance. There's a chance. Maybe that's something the
- 12:17Speaker 2: Saints will have in a couple years.
- 12:18Speaker 3: Maybe we need to just go and do it.
- 12:22Speaker 8: Maybe we're in the time right now where they're getting injuries,
- 12:26Speaker 8: but in a couple years they'll be super human strength.
- 12:28Speaker 3: All right, I think also before we let Doc go,
- 12:30Speaker 3: I want to start a weekly question on his way out.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Okay. All right.
- 12:34Speaker 3: Will Mike Norvell be the coach of Florida State next week? Oof.
- 12:38Speaker 3: I don't think we have the money.
- 12:40Speaker 7: You know, I think, you know, the reality of it is,
- 12:42Speaker 7: I think, yeah, I think he'll.
- 12:45Speaker 2: Probably be there.
- 12:46Speaker 3: You know, I just. That was a sad day.
- 12:49Speaker 7: You know, I know that I think the only way
- 12:50Speaker 7: you maybe, The habit is if they all just bring
- 12:53Speaker 7: Jimbo in and don't pay him, which I know has
- 12:55Speaker 7: been discussed. That's probably your only option right now. I'd
- 12:58Speaker 7: do it for free.
- 12:59Speaker 3: I'd do it right now. I think that's the only
- 13:01Speaker 3: way it happens. Jimbo does live in Tallahassee. He does
- 13:04Speaker 3: live there.
- 13:05Speaker 7: I think he's trying to get back in the good graces.
- 13:07Speaker 7: There's been some attempts there. And, look, that might be
- 13:10Speaker 7: a good way for him to earn a little love.
- 13:14Speaker 2: You know what?
- 13:15Speaker 8: Her fan base saying, we want to fire him, but
- 13:18Speaker 8: we can't afford it. That's a recipe for a really
- 13:21Speaker 8: good atmosphere.
- 13:22Speaker 2: In that home stadium. That's a really good recipe. Place
- 13:25Speaker 2: is going to be electric.
- 13:26Speaker 7: I got a lot of people that are just not
- 13:27Speaker 7: very happy in my chats.
- 13:31Speaker 3: Let's get on. Doc, we appreciate it, sir. Thanks for
- 13:35Speaker 3: hopping on with us. Always a pleasure.
- 13:38Speaker 8: Again, I don't want to see you. I don't want
- 13:41Speaker 8: to see you this weekend. I appreciate you coming in here.
- 13:43Speaker 8: I love seeing you every single week. I appreciate it.
- 13:45Speaker 8: Don't want to see you this weekend, though.
- 13:46Speaker 3: I'll do my best. All right, more OTB when we
- 13:49Speaker 3: come back here live from the Raising Cane Studio.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Off the bench.

- 15:17Speaker 3: about us.
- 15:18Speaker 9: And it's the only way we know how to rock.
- 15:21Speaker 1: I don't know about y'all, but I know about us.
- 15:24Speaker 9: And it's the only way we know how to rock.
- 15:26Speaker 9: Do you remember, girl? I was the one who gave
- 15:30Speaker 9: you your first kiss. Because I remember, girl. I was
- 15:34Speaker 9: the one who said, put your lips like this.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Even before.
- 15:40Speaker 9: Welcome back to Off the Bench. Wednesday's show is brought
- 15:46Speaker 9: to you by Poncho. Highly underrated.
- 16:41Speaker 3: Alicia Keys.
- 16:43Speaker 2: Is she underrated?
- 16:44Speaker 3: I think so. I really do. She's rated, but not
- 16:47Speaker 3: properly rated.
- 16:48Speaker 9: Okay.
- 16:48Speaker 3: Does that make sense?
- 16:49Speaker 2: I mean, yeah. My girls listen to her because they
- 16:55Speaker 2: love Girls on Fire.
- 16:59Speaker 3: It's a good song, too.
- 17:01Speaker 2: It is a good song. I've listened to it too
- 17:03Speaker 2: many times.
- 17:04Speaker 3: I get you.
- 17:05Speaker 1: You're done with it.
- 17:06Speaker 2: I'm done with it.
- 17:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:08Speaker 2: I got it. She's on fire. Crushing it.
- 17:12Speaker 3: She's crushing it.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Hopefully not literally. That'd be bad. Yeah, it'd be like
- 17:18Speaker 2: the 1600s.
- 17:18Speaker 3: All right, so Saints owner. What? Gail Benson had a
- 17:25Speaker 3: couple things to say. And I'm going to have like
- 17:28Speaker 3: a little bit of a Cliff Notes version here. Called
- 17:32Speaker 3: out the Saints for their 1-4 start. Called it unacceptable.
- 17:36Speaker 3: Saying the team has fallen short of what its fans deserve.
- 17:41Speaker 3: She spread the accountability across the entire organization, Kellen Moore
- 17:45Speaker 3: and the coaches, Mickey Loomis in the front office, the players,
- 17:48Speaker 3: and herself as the owner. Benson said she is prepared
- 17:52Speaker 3: to make whatever decisions are necessary, putting Moore and Loomis
- 17:57Speaker 3: publicly on notice without announcing any immediate changes. She was
- 18:04Speaker 3: especially disappointed with By the 45-24 loss to Atlanta during
- 18:09Speaker 3: the 20th anniversary celebration of the Saints' emotional return to
- 18:13Speaker 3: the Superdome after Hurricane Katrina, the Saints have lost three
- 18:17Speaker 3: straight games, are 7-15 under Kellen Moore, and haven't reached
- 18:21Speaker 3: the playoffs since 2020. Benson's message was simple. Words won't
- 18:29Speaker 3: regain the fans' confidence. Winning and improved football and performance will.
- 18:35Speaker 3: Tired of talking? wants to see it actually on the field.
- 18:39Speaker 3: And this is an owner calling out everybody. And, look,
- 18:44Speaker 3: Mickey Loomis is as protected as any general manager will be.
- 18:48Speaker 3: We've talked about it. We know that. He's heavily involved
- 18:52Speaker 3: in that organization. But this does, like, and if you
- 18:55Speaker 3: heard the comments, like, this feels like an owner that
- 18:58Speaker 3: is very frustrated, that went out and spent a lot
- 19:02Speaker 3: of money on free agents and a lot of moves
- 19:05Speaker 3: this offseason to be better, The moves that you made
- 19:08Speaker 3: is actually the thing that you do the worst, running
- 19:10Speaker 3: the football. You have a draft class that none of
- 19:14Speaker 3: them are contributing to your football team currently. Not saying
- 19:17Speaker 3: they can't, not saying they won't, but right now they're not,
- 19:20Speaker 3: and it has to be frustrating. You're paying a whole
- 19:23Speaker 3: draft class that's not doing anything. I don't know. We
- 19:27Speaker 3: don't get comments from owners very often.
- 19:30Speaker 8: This is, to me, I heard that these comments were made,
- 19:34Speaker 8: and then I saw them, And to me, this feels
- 19:40Speaker 8: like it's a rebuttal by her because they finally had
- 19:45Speaker 8: a big game on primetime and in a big situation.
- 19:49Speaker 8: an emotional situation for the entire city and they embarrass
- 19:55Speaker 8: themselves i think that if that game doesn't happen if
- 19:58Speaker 8: that was just a their normal noon time slot i
- 20:02Speaker 8: don't know if these comments are made like this at
- 20:05Speaker 8: least but your team that you've dumped all this money
- 20:09Speaker 8: into had the support, and that city was about to explode, right?
- 20:16Speaker 8: They were ready, right there on the edge of their seats.
- 20:19Speaker 8: They wanted it so bad, and you didn't even put
- 20:24Speaker 8: up a fight, it felt like. And on top of that,
- 20:28Speaker 8: your team didn't put up a fight, and your coach
- 20:32Speaker 8: won't even tell you anything about it, like why.
- 20:36Speaker 2: It happened or what's the positive outlook.
- 20:40Speaker 8: So there's had to been so much just public like blowback.
- 20:45Speaker 3: After that game.
- 20:46Speaker 8: That was embarrassing for the owner. So it's like, it's
- 20:49Speaker 8: one of those, sometimes it takes that, that jolt to
- 20:53Speaker 8: you to wake you up. Sometimes it takes something so
- 20:57Speaker 8: bad to happen that it finally kicks you in the
- 20:59Speaker 8: ass and it says, all right, okay, I got, I've been,
- 21:03Speaker 8: I've gotten these, it's been bad for a while, but
- 21:06Speaker 8: this was so bad and embarrassing that, I got to
- 21:10Speaker 8: wake everybody up.
- 21:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:11Speaker 8: I got to threaten or I got to make changes.
- 21:14Speaker 8: So is this, is she just giving words? Like she
- 21:18Speaker 8: just said, talk. Isn't going to be good enough. It's
- 21:20Speaker 8: not going to draw the people. It's not going to
- 21:21Speaker 8: make the better football. Well, well, it's also going to
- 21:25Speaker 8: be on her.
- 21:25Speaker 3: Her talk.
- 21:26Speaker 2: Can't do it.
- 21:26Speaker 8: Like she's got to, she's got to be about that life.
- 21:29Speaker 8: If she's going to be about that life, she's got
- 21:30Speaker 8: to be about it. So we will see if it
- 21:34Speaker 8: doesn't get better. Our real changes made. Mickey Lewis has
- 21:38Speaker 8: been there a long time. and I'd never want to
- 21:41Speaker 8: call for, like, anybody's. But, like, you have to perform.
- 21:45Speaker 8: You can't have that many first-rounders on the offensive line,
- 21:48Speaker 8: and you have the worst offensive line. Like, you can't, like,
- 21:50Speaker 8: have all these picks and nobody's playing. Like, it's just
- 21:54Speaker 8: year after year after year after year.
- 21:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:58Speaker 2: Your coach has to be better.
- 22:00Speaker 9: Right.
- 22:01Speaker 8: But, again, like, it's the– sometimes you got to go
- 22:05Speaker 8: to the top. You got to go to the decision-makers, right?
- 22:08Speaker 3: Who hired him.
- 22:09Speaker 8: Your coach has to tell you something. If I'm Gale,
- 22:12Speaker 8: I'm calling him in. You have to talk. I know
- 22:15Speaker 8: it's not your thing. You got to tell the people something.
- 22:19Speaker 8: You got to give them something of substance. Give them
- 22:21Speaker 8: something to hold on to. Instead of saying, gee whiz,
- 22:27Speaker 8: I don't know. Gee whiz, we're trying our hardest. We
- 22:30Speaker 8: got to get better. We know you got to get better.
- 22:32Speaker 8: We saw it. You got to get a lot better.
- 22:34Speaker 8: You don't have to tell me you got to get better.
- 22:35Speaker 8: Because I saw.
- 22:37Speaker 8: How not very good you are. I'm glad you agree
- 22:43Speaker 8: that you got to get better, but we know because
- 22:45Speaker 8: you stink. Objectively, you stink.
- 22:51Speaker 1: You nailed it on the primetime thing. Like, you've been
- 22:55Speaker 1: so bad for so long that you never play on primetime, Gale.
- 22:58Speaker 1: You're embarrassed now because you lost on prom time? Yeah,
- 23:01Speaker 1: you're never there. Why is this the breaking point, right?
- 23:06Speaker 1: Did this Allen suck for three years? He complained because
- 23:08Speaker 1: you gave Jamal Williams a touchdown and he thought you
- 23:11Speaker 1: were running up the score. You've been soft for a
- 23:13Speaker 1: number of years. This is the breaking point? I'll tell
- 23:16Speaker 1: you right now, I don't believe her. Outside of getting
- 23:18Speaker 1: rid of Mickey Loomis, it's not going to change and
- 23:20Speaker 1: I don't think she's going to do it. I do
- 23:21Speaker 1: not believe her.
- 23:24Speaker 2: ESPN spent 24 hours Nearly.
- 23:29Speaker 8: At least 12 hours the entire day showing documentaries of
- 23:33Speaker 8: Katrina and people having to live in the Subaru and
- 23:37Speaker 8: it being rebuilt and all the hopeful messages and literally
- 23:42Speaker 8: dedicated multiple ESPN channels the entire day to it. Then
- 23:50Speaker 8: they go out and get crushed by a, at the time,
- 23:55Speaker 8: what we thought was a Bad Falcons team. So, hell yeah,
- 24:02Speaker 8: that's embarrassing for an owner. But to Taylor's point, she's
- 24:07Speaker 8: got to do something.
- 24:08Speaker 6: I mean, if she doesn't fire Mickey Loomis, then I
- 24:10Speaker 6: don't really care what she has to say. Because even
- 24:13Speaker 6: like the draft picks, we can talk about that all day.
- 24:15Speaker 6: The draft picks have been awful or they haven't performed
- 24:19Speaker 6: the way that they're supposed to perform or they're injured
- 24:21Speaker 6: all the time. And aside from that, the front office
- 24:25Speaker 6: is also... and Gail are the ones making the decisions
- 24:29Speaker 6: on who to hire. And first you get Dennis Allen,
- 24:32Speaker 6: who we know how that went. And then you had
- 24:34Speaker 6: Derek Carr that came in with him. And that was
- 24:36Speaker 6: just like the most infuriating time as a Saints fan,
- 24:40Speaker 6: like recency bias.
- 24:41Speaker 3: It was so infuriating.
- 24:43Speaker 6: And then you go to somebody that has like possibly
- 24:46Speaker 6: the same exact personality that Dennis Allen had. And except
- 24:51Speaker 6: for like, Kellen's not as arrogant as he was, I
- 24:54Speaker 6: don't feel, but. I just, if you're not going to
- 24:57Speaker 6: fire Mickey Loomis, I don't really care what you have
- 24:59Speaker 6: to say. And it's, like, a lot of posturing for
- 25:04Speaker 6: you to not make a single move.
- 25:06Speaker 2: Right.
- 25:07Speaker 6: And Nick was talking about it yesterday. Like, if they
- 25:09Speaker 6: come back from Paris with a loss.
- 25:12Speaker 3: If they lose the next two, yeah.
- 25:13Speaker 6: Yeah, and they come back from, like, Kelly Moore is
- 25:16Speaker 6: going to have to be left in Paris. Like, leave
- 25:19Speaker 6: his ass there.
- 25:20Speaker 8: If they don't improve, then she's going to be forced
- 25:22Speaker 8: to enforce her words.
- 25:24Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 25:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:25Speaker 2: They're going to force her hand.
- 25:26Speaker 3: You don't want her words not to carry weight as
- 25:30Speaker 3: the owner. Yeah. They got to carry some weight.
- 25:33Speaker 6: But they don't feel like they do. No. Because it's
- 25:35Speaker 6: been happening forever. She's like, they haven't been playing to
- 25:38Speaker 6: the standard. They haven't played to the standard in a
- 25:40Speaker 6: really long time.
- 25:41Speaker 3: Yeah, they haven't been to postseason in five years.
- 25:44Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 25:44Speaker 6: And so you've just been letting that happen for all
- 25:48Speaker 6: those years, and now suddenly you're like, we can't let
- 25:51Speaker 6: that happen. Okay, you've been letting it happen. So it's
- 25:54Speaker 6: just right now, unless you actually do something about it
- 25:57Speaker 6: in the future and doing something about it means firing
- 26:00Speaker 6: Mickey Loomis, then I just don't really care.
- 26:02Speaker 3: The thing, and I agree with you about like hiring
- 26:07Speaker 3: kind of the same guy, the same mentality, like the
- 26:09Speaker 3: thing that's troublesome about that, your most success has come
- 26:13Speaker 3: with somebody that doesn't have that mentality. Like Sean Payton's
- 26:15Speaker 3: not that kind of coach. And you can speak to
- 26:17Speaker 3: this better than any of us could. I only spent
- 26:19Speaker 3: a couple of camps with him. You spent a little
- 26:21Speaker 3: bit of a season with him. But his mentality is
- 26:24Speaker 3: not Dennis Allen's. It's not Kellen Moore's right now. With
- 26:27Speaker 3: Sean Payton as your head coach, you have a winning
- 26:31Speaker 3: percentage of 631. Without him, this is your franchise history.
- 26:34Speaker 3: Without him, 402. Sean Payton in the playoffs, 9-8. Without him?
- 26:40Speaker 3: One in five. All time.
- 26:41Speaker 1: That's pathetic. One in five.
- 26:44Speaker 3: You have one singular. Was it Jim Hazlett, I believe?
- 26:47Speaker 3: Of all time? Of all time. You have one playoff
- 26:49Speaker 3: win that does not have Sean Payton's name attached to it.
- 26:52Speaker 3: Before then. First year. So the Saints won about 63%
- 26:58Speaker 3: of the regular season games with Sean Payton compared to
- 27:01Speaker 3: only about 40% without him.
- 27:04Speaker 8: I've heard a lot of incredible stats and incredible things.
- 27:08Speaker 8: That's an incredible... That's... towards the top your organization 50
- 27:15Speaker 8: years old it's only one one playoff game without sean payton.
- 27:20Speaker 6: That's pathetic that and losing the one prime time game
- 27:25Speaker 6: that you have when you were it was the whole
- 27:28Speaker 6: katrina thing and embarrassed i mean pathetic and embarrassed and
- 27:32Speaker 6: like it's bad Matt.
- 27:34Speaker 1: We made a joke in the offseason. It's like, oh,
- 27:36Speaker 1: Mickey got the award for the draft class. It's like, yeah,
- 27:38Speaker 1: because it's the outlier. It's been so bad. Like, you
- 27:40Speaker 1: gave up multiple picks to get Marcus Davenport. Never did
- 27:43Speaker 1: anything for you. Peyton Turner, is Peyton Turner still in
- 27:46Speaker 1: the league?
- 27:47Speaker 3: I mean, he was during camp. I don't know that
- 27:52Speaker 3: he still is, though.
- 27:54Speaker 1: But, like, everybody you've drafted, by and large, the last
- 27:58Speaker 1: couple years, like you were talking yesterday, Jake, about this
- 28:01Speaker 1: year's draft class not doing anything. And the guys you
- 28:04Speaker 1: drafted that did stick, you traded them to the other organizations,
- 28:07Speaker 1: and they've done better. You got Caden Ellis back in
- 28:09Speaker 1: the fall, but Zach Vaughn's gone. He's done a lot
- 28:12Speaker 1: better in other places. Any move you could make along
- 28:14Speaker 1: the way, it's been the wrong move, but you lose
- 28:17Speaker 1: on Monday Night Football, and now this is the breaking point.
- 28:20Speaker 1: We could talk about leaving Kellen Moore in Paris if
- 28:23Speaker 1: he loses these next two games.
- 28:24Speaker 2: You going to leave Mickey?
- 28:25Speaker 1: Because if you don't leave Mickey, it doesn't matter.
- 28:27Speaker 9: You have to.
- 28:27Speaker 2: Just get another one. Yeah.
- 28:29Speaker 1: You leave Kellen, great. You're going to hire somebody else
- 28:32Speaker 1: the exact same way.
- 28:36Speaker 8: Your first-round pick that you had a top-ten pick, had
- 28:39Speaker 8: a lot of opportunity to take a great player, and
- 28:40Speaker 8: you did take a great player.
- 28:42Speaker 9: An injury.
- 28:42Speaker 2: But the red flag.
- 28:44Speaker 1: And that red flag immediately showed up.
- 28:45Speaker 2: He's been out for ten weeks now.
- 28:50Speaker 6: Doesn't wear socks with his cleats.
- 28:51Speaker 5: It's ridiculous.
- 28:52Speaker 2: That is ridiculous. Looked pretty quick, though.
- 28:56Speaker 3: Yeah, those got more issues than just the Saints, too. Yeah,
- 28:59Speaker 3: I mean, the Pelicans.
- 29:00Speaker 1: What's wrong with the Pelicans?
- 29:01Speaker 3: I don't even want to touch that. How long you got?
- 29:04Speaker 3: Let's get Jordan in here. Oh, God, no. Small boys. Yeah,
- 29:09Speaker 3: we wouldn't be able to take a break for an hour.
- 29:11Speaker 8: I mean, you've got to be an absolute sicko to
- 29:14Speaker 8: know much about the Pelicans right now.
- 29:15Speaker 3: He's sick.
- 29:17Speaker 2: Just to dive into that garbage.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Two things that upset Jordan Kitchens the most, New Orleans Pelicans,
- 29:23Speaker 1: Anthony Mackie.
- 29:24Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely.
- 29:25Speaker 2: That's it.
- 29:25Speaker 3: That's true.
- 29:25Speaker 2: I don't know if Anthony tried to talk to him
- 29:29Speaker 2: about the Pelicans.
- 29:30Speaker 1: What if Anthony Mackie bought the Pelicans? Oh, my God.
- 29:33Speaker 1: Jordan quit. He'd be done.
- 29:35Speaker 3: His brain would explode.
- 29:36Speaker 6: Yeah, Mickey gotta go.
- 29:40Speaker 3: The first thing. Something has to happen. What else could happen?
- 29:46Speaker 3: I've been fired multiple times in the NFL. It's not fun.
- 29:48Speaker 3: I don't like calling for anybody's head specifically. This guy's
- 29:52Speaker 3: got to go unless it's egregious. But it's to a
- 29:53Speaker 3: point where certainly, like Nick said yesterday, if you lose
- 29:58Speaker 3: this week, you lose next week, and you're on a
- 30:00Speaker 3: plane from Paris, however long that flight is, back to
- 30:02Speaker 3: New Orleans, and somebody doesn't get fired as that plane's
- 30:06Speaker 3: in the air, then you have an issue. Because then
- 30:10Speaker 3: you're telling your fan base you're 1-6, and I really
- 30:12Speaker 3: don't give a damn that you're 1-6.
- 30:14Speaker 8: Because just think about those games singularly. You lose this one,
- 30:22Speaker 8: you lose it to Jameis, who was your backup, who
- 30:27Speaker 8: beat you in Tampa for many years. Now he's a backup.
- 30:30Speaker 6: He did the thing Dennis Allen got soft and annoyed about.
- 30:33Speaker 2: Exactly. Yeah, exactly.
- 30:35Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 30:36Speaker 2: You lose to him.
- 30:37Speaker 8: And then if you lose the next one, you're losing
- 30:41Speaker 8: in Paris. And if last week embarrassed Gail, that's going
- 30:46Speaker 8: to embarrass her with the whole French. What, like the
- 30:50Speaker 8: affiliate or what? They have the ambassadorship. They have a
- 30:52Speaker 8: quarter on their team. They're playing in their country that
- 30:57Speaker 8: they're the ambassador for in the NFL.
- 30:59Speaker 2: Well, then we talk about how. That's too embarrassing.
- 31:02Speaker 8: Like, if it happens, of course, this is all talking
- 31:04Speaker 8: about the future.
- 31:05Speaker 2: But that's why Nick was saying you got to at
- 31:06Speaker 2: least win one of these.
- 31:07Speaker 3: I didn't even think about that part of the Saints
- 31:09Speaker 3: or she's probably trying to push the Saints or the
- 31:11Speaker 3: team in France. Look, we've got this French heritage, you know,
- 31:15Speaker 3: symbol and we've got all these things and.
- 31:19Speaker 1: Terrible for PR. How bad the NFC South is, right?
- 31:23Speaker 1: And you could say, oh, well, at least you're not
- 31:24Speaker 1: the Bucs. Bucs figured some things out defensively. It's like,
- 31:27Speaker 1: say what you want about Dallas. It's a good offense,
- 31:29Speaker 1: and you did a good job against them. Baker Mayfield
- 31:31Speaker 1: comes back fully healthy. You lose that game, you're by
- 31:34Speaker 1: far the worst team in a bad division.
- 31:38Speaker 6: Hmm.
- 31:39Speaker 3: Other than that.
- 31:40Speaker 2: Other than that, not bad.
- 31:44Speaker 3: All right, we'll take a break. We'll continue talking a
- 31:45Speaker 3: little New Orleans Saints and, well, how bad it is.
- 31:48Speaker 3: Can it be fixed? Is something going to happen? Are
- 31:51Speaker 3: they going to win a game? Is it going to
- 31:52Speaker 3: be a 1-6 football team on the way back from
- 31:55Speaker 3: Paris after you lose to the Steelers? Can they win
- 31:57Speaker 3: games like that? It's not a great matchup. We'll continue
- 32:00Speaker 3: breaking it down when we come back here on OTB.
- 32:16Speaker 3: Welcome back to Off the Bench.
- 32:19Speaker 9: Wednesday's show is brought to you by Poncho. Hey, Matthew.
- 33:02Speaker 2: Oh, what's up? Hey, girl.
- 33:04Speaker 3: Hey, baby. It's a little bit different of an R
- 33:08Speaker 3: & B song. Matthew, you should go to Bayou Automotive.
- 33:12Speaker 8: Why?
- 33:13Speaker 3: They got really cool vehicles. Ford Chrysler Dodge Jeep and
- 33:17Speaker 3: Ram a little bit of everything down there in Laplace
- 33:18Speaker 3: Louisiana in this economy yeah in this economy because they
- 33:22Speaker 3: got great deals if you're into Black Widow packages which
- 33:25Speaker 3: you should be if you're like 41 and you want
- 33:27Speaker 3: your kids to think you're cool I don't know who
- 33:29Speaker 3: that would be but if you want to feel like
- 33:31Speaker 3: that you could get a Black Widow and that's going
- 33:32Speaker 3: to get it done you can't make it to Laplace
- 33:36Speaker 3: you said that's.
- 33:37Speaker 5: Okay I can't I can't make it that's okay they'll
- 33:39Speaker 5: deliver it you probably don't they'll deliver your vehicle to
- 33:42Speaker 5: you though They'll do it if you wanted them to
- 33:45Speaker 5: drop it off here at Guarantee or at the MyHigh
- 33:48Speaker 5: offices or maybe even your house.
- 33:50Speaker 3: They'll do that. If you buy it online, Bayou Automotive.
- 33:52Speaker 2: How do they do that?
- 33:53Speaker 3: They have nine full-time drivers. That's impressive. Pretty easy for them.
- 33:59Speaker 3: Go to BayouAutomotive.com. Buy your next vehicle. BayouAutomotive.com. Ford, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep,
- 34:04Speaker 3: and Ram. All right. Another question, Matt. Full of questions.
- 34:09Speaker 2: I'm full of answers.
- 34:11Speaker 3: If there was a problem, yo, you'll solve it.
- 34:13Speaker 2: Always.
- 34:16Speaker 3: Prediction time. At New York Giants, Pittsburgh Steelers in France.
- 34:23Speaker 2: Okay.
- 34:23Speaker 3: That sustains record.
- 34:25Speaker 6: 0-2.
- 34:29Speaker 8: Well, I mean, your quarterback can't move his hand. How
- 34:38Speaker 8: many quarterbacks have done that well? Phillip Rivers did it
- 34:40Speaker 8: for a little bit once, I think.
- 34:41Speaker 2: Didn't he? Play without a left hand?
- 34:43Speaker 3: It was Herbert.
- 34:44Speaker 6: Yeah, he did it last year.
- 34:46Speaker 3: Yeah, he was handing everything off with his right hand.
- 34:49Speaker 3: Even if he was going to his right, he was, like,
- 34:51Speaker 3: turning it.
- 34:52Speaker 8: Yeah, and if you can't have an effective play-action game,
- 34:57Speaker 8: you're probably not going to win the game. Like, you
- 34:59Speaker 8: could get a special teams touchdown as a defensive touchdown. Like,
- 35:03Speaker 8: if he can't do his play-action and you're not very good, like,
- 35:08Speaker 8: that's– you're going to have a hard time winning it.
- 35:11Speaker 8: I mean, unless Jameis just goes out and he poos
- 35:13Speaker 8: down his leg, which he could, but he could also
- 35:16Speaker 8: throw for 400 in five touchdowns. He could throw for 500,
- 35:20Speaker 8: or he could throw for five. That's the type of
- 35:23Speaker 8: player Jameis is, and it's exciting either way. I can't
- 35:27Speaker 8: wait to watch him on the television with a microphone
- 35:30Speaker 8: in front.
- 35:31Speaker 3: It's a very good point about the play action because
- 35:34Speaker 3: you can't do it with the health of your quarterback
- 35:36Speaker 3: like right now. It feels like it would be very tough,
- 35:38Speaker 3: so then you become one-sided. and everything is to one side,
- 35:41Speaker 3: and that can't happen. You can't only have play action
- 35:45Speaker 3: to the offense's left, the defense's right. And the couple
- 35:50Speaker 3: of things about the play action for the Saints that's
- 35:52Speaker 3: not going to work, your quarterback can't have that, hey,
- 35:55Speaker 3: I'm going to stick it in your belly, I'm going
- 35:56Speaker 3: to pull it out last minute, hard, heavy play action,
- 35:58Speaker 3: then we're going to pass it. Can't do that, and
- 36:00Speaker 3: you also can't run the football, so nobody cares if
- 36:02Speaker 3: you do it. Even if you did it well, everybody's like, oh, cool,
- 36:05Speaker 3: you want to run the ball? Great, we love that.
- 36:07Speaker 1: I was about to say, you're running games so bad,
- 36:10Speaker 1: nobody cared about your play action anyways.
- 36:12Speaker 8: And the difference between, at that level of competition, that
- 36:16Speaker 8: level of skill in the NFL, the difference between a
- 36:22Speaker 8: good play and a bad play, a successful play, non-successful win,
- 36:26Speaker 8: is so minute.
- 36:28Speaker 2: It is so small.
- 36:30Speaker 8: When you take something like that away, the difference between
- 36:32Speaker 8: a completion on a play action sometimes is like the
- 36:37Speaker 8: linebacker making a misstep or reaching.
- 36:39Speaker 3: Up like a quarter inch, like a quarter inch more,
- 36:41Speaker 3: he would have tipped the ball. What did we talk
- 36:43Speaker 3: about in the LSU-Kentucky game in overtime?
- 36:45Speaker 2: Right.
- 36:46Speaker 3: Devon Keyes is, what, four inches?
- 36:49Speaker 2: Maybe.
- 36:50Speaker 8: From knocking the football down. Eight inches from pick six, like,
- 36:54Speaker 8: or picking it off. Like, it's just the little tiny details.
- 36:59Speaker 8: And when play action, you can't perform– play action. And
- 37:02Speaker 8: even if you do, it's more of like a little
- 37:04Speaker 8: flash fake or something like that can make the difference.
- 37:07Speaker 2: Now you can have success.
- 37:08Speaker 8: I don't think we need to go out and assume
- 37:10Speaker 8: Tyler Shucks is going to get you negative points and
- 37:12Speaker 8: fantasy again, like you did this past week. Cause that
- 37:14Speaker 8: defense airplane, they smelled blood. And, uh, but if you
- 37:19Speaker 8: can't get a running game going, which we have, like there's,
- 37:22Speaker 8: they're not, they haven't done or told us anything to
- 37:25Speaker 8: make us hopeful. Cause they don't tell you anything, the coaches.
- 37:28Speaker 3: Right.
- 37:28Speaker 8: So why should we be hopeful that they can get
- 37:30Speaker 8: a running game going? Maybe they surprise us. Maybe they
- 37:34Speaker 8: shock us and they get some sort of running game going.
- 37:36Speaker 3: I doubt it.
- 37:37Speaker 8: But you haven't told us anything that makes us believe
- 37:40Speaker 8: that you will. So for that, just for that, I'm
- 37:44Speaker 8: going to say you're not going to run the ball.
- 37:45Speaker 8: You can't play action fake because you can't run the
- 37:48Speaker 8: ball for one. Plus, your quarterback only has one hand.
- 37:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 37:52Speaker 2: So what are you going to do?
- 37:53Speaker 8: You're going to get in five wide and drop back
- 37:55Speaker 8: and throw it every play?
- 37:57Speaker 2: Good luck in the NFL.
- 38:00Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 38:01Speaker 3: That will not be a recipe for success. That will
- 38:05Speaker 3: actually be a disaster. And, again, you spent so much
- 38:08Speaker 3: money to be better in that phase. You spent money
- 38:11Speaker 3: on a guard. You spent first-round pick after first-round pick
- 38:14Speaker 3: on your offensive line. You went and got a free
- 38:17Speaker 3: agent running back. Look, he's hurt right now, but even
- 38:20Speaker 3: when he was healthy, you weren't getting him the football.
- 38:22Speaker 3: You didn't have a point of emphasis. You cut a
- 38:26Speaker 3: running back that was better than what you currently have
- 38:28Speaker 3: because you drafted that running back and you didn't want
- 38:30Speaker 3: to say, I messed up on this draft pick. Who
- 38:33Speaker 3: did that? Who makes that decision? The general manager. And
- 38:36Speaker 3: that's not just him. That's every GM in the NFL,
- 38:39Speaker 3: probably in pro sports. We get that. But you can't
- 38:42Speaker 3: run the football.
- 38:44Speaker 2: At all.
- 38:46Speaker 3: Not even a little bit.
- 38:47Speaker 2: You stink.
- 38:49Speaker 3: Yes. If it wasn't for how bad the Green Bay
- 38:51Speaker 3: Packers are at running the football... you would be the
- 38:55Speaker 3: worst in the NFL. At least with Green Bay. Green
- 38:57Speaker 3: Bay's the worst by 20 yards.
- 38:58Speaker 2: By the way. Side note, if the playoffs started today,
- 39:00Speaker 2: they'd be in the playoffs.
- 39:01Speaker 3: I know. It's amazing. That's why on the other show
- 39:05Speaker 3: that I do, I'm like, hey, Green Bay, go call somebody.
- 39:07Speaker 3: Go get a running back. Go spend a fourth-round pick
- 39:10Speaker 3: on a running back. You're 3-2 right now.
- 39:13Speaker 2: Well, that's the thing.
- 39:14Speaker 1: And at least with Green Bay, the Josh Jacobs things
- 39:16Speaker 1: popped up right before the season. Saints had all offseason.
- 39:20Speaker 3: To address this. They knew he was going to get suspended.
- 39:23Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 39:23Speaker 1: But they just did it incorrectly.
- 39:25Speaker 3: And they were stubborn. And they went and traded for
- 39:28Speaker 3: a third round back that hadn't really done anything. instead
- 39:30Speaker 3: of getting a proven guy. Still, they're finding ways to
- 39:34Speaker 3: still move the football. The Saints right now are 32, 31,
- 39:38Speaker 3: 29th in rushing in the NFL. Let it be known too,
- 39:39Speaker 3: we have tried really hard.
- 39:50Speaker 8: Put rose colored sunglasses on and paint this season and
- 39:53Speaker 8: paint this team as, as good as we can. But
- 39:56Speaker 8: you aren't doing any favors either. Like if you, if
- 39:59Speaker 8: we knew what the, maybe there's a plan in place,
- 40:03Speaker 8: you got to explain it to people.
- 40:05Speaker 2: You got to tell us.
- 40:08Speaker 8: Your silence is deafening right now when it comes to
- 40:13Speaker 8: what the vision is, what the identity is, what we're
- 40:17Speaker 8: working towards. What's the point of this? What's the point
- 40:19Speaker 8: of that? Your silence is absolutely deafening. So we have
- 40:25Speaker 8: to assume the worst because you're not giving us anything
- 40:28Speaker 8: to be positive about.
- 40:29Speaker 3: Right.
- 40:29Speaker 8: We got it. You know that mistakes were made. You know,
- 40:32Speaker 8: you got to get better. Everybody in the world knows that,
- 40:37Speaker 8: that you got to get better.
- 40:38Speaker 2: Everybody.
- 40:39Speaker 8: You don't have to tell us that. Tell us how
- 40:41Speaker 8: you're going to get better. Tell us what parts, what
- 40:45Speaker 8: you're working on. This isn't good enough. So we're doing this.
- 40:48Speaker 8: Like that's what, Good coaches and organizations do. They take accountability,
- 40:54Speaker 8: and they tell you why. They tell you we get it.
- 40:57Speaker 8: They tell you what's going to happen, or they threaten.
- 41:00Speaker 3: Right.
- 41:01Speaker 2: Gail started that yesterday.
- 41:02Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 41:02Speaker 2: She started it. Yeah.
- 41:05Speaker 8: She was forced to probably because of the embarrassment on
- 41:07Speaker 8: Monday night. If you lose these next two games, that
- 41:10Speaker 8: embarrassment is going to continue. You're going to start seeing.
- 41:15Speaker 2: Grocery bags. You go 0-2?
- 41:18Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, the Aints grocery bags will be back. No
- 41:22Speaker 3: doubt about it.
- 41:22Speaker 8: Ain't going to be many of the people left in
- 41:26Speaker 8: the locker room that are the same.
- 41:27Speaker 3: And again, you're 29th in yards per game. You're 29th
- 41:30Speaker 3: in yards per carry. You only have five rushing touchdowns
- 41:34Speaker 3: on the year. Is it shocking that they're only 29th? Hell,
- 41:37Speaker 3: you've got three fumbles and five touchdowns. You almost have
- 41:39Speaker 3: more fumbles than touchdowns.
- 41:40Speaker 2: Is it shocking that they're 29th?
- 41:42Speaker 3: It is shocking that they're 29th because they've been so
- 41:45Speaker 3: bad Now, Green Bay, it's not shocking that Green Bay
- 41:48Speaker 3: is the worst by 20 yards because of their running
- 41:50Speaker 3: back room. The Texans and the Cowboys. Now, the Cowboys
- 41:54Speaker 3: being there is kind of shocking, too, because Javante has
- 41:56Speaker 3: had some big games. But I would have thought that
- 41:59Speaker 3: they were 31st without a doubt. Now, they're a yard
- 42:03Speaker 3: and a half from being 31st. Okay. I would have
- 42:06Speaker 3: thought that they would have been 31st. Green Bay is
- 42:09Speaker 3: objectively maybe going to be the worst rushing team we've
- 42:11Speaker 3: ever seen in the NFL. That's how bad it is
- 42:13Speaker 3: in Green Bay. But they're 3-2. They're finding a way.
- 42:17Speaker 3: Their coaches are finding a way to win football games
- 42:20Speaker 3: when they can't run it. Now, I'm in the belief
- 42:22Speaker 3: that you have to run it to win, but if
- 42:24Speaker 3: you can't, do something else. The Saints aren't doing that.
- 42:27Speaker 3: More OTB when we come back.
- 42:31Speaker 9: Off the bench.

- 43:51Speaker 1: Welcome back to Off The Bench.
- 43:53Speaker 3: Wednesday's show is brought to you by Poncho.
- 43:54Speaker 9: You are my son.
- 43:57Speaker 3: You are my earth.
- 44:01Speaker 9: You didn't know all the ways I loved you.
- 44:05Speaker 5: No, no.
- 44:07Speaker 3: So you took a chance. All right, welcome back in.
- 44:10Speaker 3: I do apologize. Look, we got a little heated talking
- 44:12Speaker 3: about the Saints, and hell, that conversation might keep on
- 44:15Speaker 3: in the next hour.
- 44:18Speaker 2: Good for you, Gail.
- 44:19Speaker 3: Pat my chest, a little clock management there. But when
- 44:25Speaker 3: you look at the rushing stats and you look at
- 44:27Speaker 3: everything that that team's not doing right now, you're going
- 44:30Speaker 3: to go long.
- 44:31Speaker 2: But you know what?
- 44:31Speaker 3: I'm just going to apologize.
- 44:33Speaker 2: Go ahead.
- 44:35Speaker 8: I was going to say, you know, it remains to
- 44:37Speaker 8: be seen what Gail will actually do, if she's got
- 44:39Speaker 8: any teeth to that bark, you know what I mean? But, like,
- 44:42Speaker 8: how do you recover from anything? How do you get better?
- 44:44Speaker 8: You admit that there's a problem.
- 44:45Speaker 1: Okay?
- 44:47Speaker 8: That's the first step. So we've taken that first step, everybody.
- 44:52Speaker 8: See if everybody else can take the second. Excited to see, though.
- 44:58Speaker 8: It'll be fun. Good drama. Oh, I love the drama.
- 45:01Speaker 2: I love some drama.
- 45:03Speaker 3: Drama mean?
- 45:03Speaker 2: Yeah, it's good. Bro, relax, Dad.
- 45:08Speaker 3: I was talking about for me, not for the kids.
- 45:12Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 45:13Speaker 3: I got a little tum-tum like you do, bud. Got
- 45:16Speaker 3: to sit up front. Can't sit in the back. Doesn't
- 45:19Speaker 3: go well. And this guy knows what I'm talking about.
- 45:23Speaker 3: All right, well, we're just going to keep talking about
- 45:25Speaker 3: how bad the Saints are when we come back.
- 45:28Speaker 9: Off the bench.
- 45:29Speaker 3: One of the good parts about the Saints is Rouse's.
- 45:33Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, right there on the jersey.
- 45:34Speaker 3: It's their official grocery store. It's our official grocery store
- 45:39Speaker 3: as well. We love it so much. We go there
- 45:42Speaker 3: every Friday from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. And sometimes
- 45:45Speaker 3: we hang out, get a little sushi, a little breakfast bar,
- 45:47Speaker 3: a little lunch bar, a little salad bar. Our guy
- 45:50Speaker 3: Dick Dixon's coming this Friday.
- 45:52Speaker 8: Yeah, he is.
- 45:52Speaker 3: So I got a little something for him. I know
- 45:55Speaker 3: he's getting in the car game. Good luck. Godspeed. I know.
- 45:58Speaker 3: I got something for him, too. I just got to remember.
- 46:04Speaker 3: You remember him. Our listeners should remember to go to Rouse's. Rouse's.com.
- 46:09Speaker 3: Find a location that's convenient for you. Tiger's got a
- 46:12Speaker 3: home game, tailgating packages. Tailgate's probably going to start on
- 46:15Speaker 3: Friday night, right? Early game. Guess what? They're already ready
- 46:20Speaker 3: on Friday. Pick them up, hang out, tailgate, pre-made packages,
- 46:25Speaker 3: ready to go. Go to the website, Rouse's.com.
