Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Off the Bench with Jacob Hester.
- 0:02Speaker 2: And Matt Flynn.
- 0:03Speaker 3: Okay, here we go.
- 0:04Speaker 1: Where the plays get broken down and science gets denied.
- 0:07Speaker 3: Dude, they said I gotta come off the bench.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Hour two of Off the Bench, live from the Raising
- 0:12Speaker 1: Cane Studio.
- 0:31Speaker 2: All right, welcome back in. OTB here live from Rouse's
- 0:36Speaker 2: on Burbank and Lee. Jake Flynn, Cassie here with you
- 0:40Speaker 2: at Rouse's on Burbank and Lee. And Paulie and Alondra
- 0:44Speaker 2: back in the Raising Cane studio in downtown Baton Rouge.
- 0:48Speaker 2: It is a football Friday getting you ready for the
- 0:51Speaker 2: football weekend. We took a look earlier at the college
- 0:55Speaker 2: slate in the top three. And then we broke down
- 0:58Speaker 2: a little LSU and Auburn. And we'll certainly give you
- 1:00Speaker 2: a last word on that game here coming up. But
- 1:03Speaker 2: let's go to the National Football League. Let's go to
- 1:06Speaker 2: the Week 7 slate. Now, we already saw a game
- 1:09Speaker 2: between the Chicago Bears and the New England Patriots. The
- 1:13Speaker 2: Bears win that one 30-24. Let's go to.
- 1:18Speaker 2: The Sunday slate, and look, we'll come back to Steelers
- 1:21Speaker 2: and Saints. That's going to be the first game. It's
- 1:23Speaker 2: going to be 8.30 a.m. over on the NFL Network.
- 1:26Speaker 2: The Steelers a three and a half point favorite. We'll
- 1:28Speaker 2: come back to that one. At noon, you've got the
- 1:32Speaker 2: 49ers traveling to take on the Atlanta Falcons. The San
- 1:35Speaker 2: Francisco 49ers a two and a half point favorite in
- 1:39Speaker 2: that game.
- 1:40Speaker 3: Don't hate that line.
- 1:41Speaker 2: You've got the Cleveland Browns traveling to the Tennessee Titans.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Right now, Cleveland is a point and a half favorite
- 1:47Speaker 2: on the road. You've got the Indianapolis Colts traveling to
- 1:51Speaker 2: the undefeated 5-0 Minnesota Vikings. You've got the 0-5 Dolphins
- 1:55Speaker 2: traveling to take on the 2-4 Jets. The Jets a 4.5-point
- 1:59Speaker 2: favorite in that one. In the NFC South, you've got
- 2:02Speaker 2: the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 1-5 traveling to the 3-2 Carolina Panthers.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Carolina a 3-point favorite in that one. and it does
- 2:10Speaker 2: look like Baker Mayfield will be back for that game.
- 2:14Speaker 2: You've got the Cincinnati Bengals traveling to take on the
- 2:16Speaker 2: Baltimore Ravens.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Baltimore, a one-and-a-half-point favorite.
- 2:19Speaker 2: You've got the New York football Giants with J.J. McCarthy
- 2:23Speaker 2: as their starting quarterback, 3-2-1, traveling to the 2-4 Texans,
- 2:28Speaker 2: who are 0-3 at home, and the Texans are a
- 2:31Speaker 2: ten-and-a-half-point favorite.
- 2:32Speaker 3: Well, J.J.
- 2:33Speaker 4: McCarthy on pace to throw for 1,000 yards this weekend.
- 2:36Speaker 2: If he does what he did a week ago.
- 2:38Speaker 4: That's right, averaging a 250 per quarter.
- 2:42Speaker 3: There's a lot of yards.
- 2:43Speaker 4: I mean, I would say the Saints' defense is right
- 2:45Speaker 4: up there with the Texans.
- 2:48Speaker 3: Got a better record than them. They do. Not a
- 2:50Speaker 3: big deal. It's weird. Quite an anomaly, I would think. Well,
- 2:55Speaker 3: they're both 2-4, so.
- 2:57Speaker 4: Are they?
- 2:57Speaker 3: Yeah, both 2-4. Good for the Texans. Got two. They did.
- 3:00Speaker 3: They got two in a row. They're coming. They're coming.
- 3:03Speaker 2: The Denver Broncos traveling to take on the Arizona Cardinals.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Denver, 4.5-point favorite.
- 3:09Speaker 2: My favorite game of the week, the Green Bay Packers
- 3:11Speaker 2: traveling to the Detroit Lions. The Lions, a 3-point favorite.
- 3:15Speaker 2: You've got the LA Rams going to the Las Vegas Raiders.
- 3:18Speaker 2: The Rams, a 3.5-point road favorite. The Kansas City Chiefs,
- 3:22Speaker 2: the undefeated Chiefs, traveling to take on the Seattle Seahawks.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Right now, Seattle, a 3-point favorite. And then a friends
- 3:28Speaker 2: and family game. The 2-4 Cowboys traveling to Philadelphia to
- 3:32Speaker 2: take on the 2-4 Eagles, where.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Dallas is a four-and-a-half point favorite. Man.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Packers-Lions, yes, please. Chiefs-Seahawks, absolutely. And then a little bit
- 3:45Speaker 2: of a, I think a deep cut.
- 3:49Speaker 3: The Bengals and the Ravens. Yeah, I was looking at
- 3:50Speaker 3: that one, too. I like that one. That's going to
- 3:51Speaker 3: be a fun one. Yeah.
- 3:53Speaker 4: Classic AFC North matchups are always a fun watch. It
- 3:57Speaker 4: makes you feel a little bit old school-y, especially when
- 3:59Speaker 4: the weather starts turning a little bit and it gets cold.
- 4:02Speaker 4: I love watching all the NFC North games, except for
- 4:04Speaker 4: the Browns. I don't like watching them, even if they're good.
- 4:07Speaker 3: I was about to say, but they're better. I don't care.
- 4:12Speaker 2: They're not quite as bad as they've always been.
- 4:14Speaker 4: Yeah, it still just makes me feel dirty watching them.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Wait, dirty? Yep. Why do you feel dirty? I don't know.
- 4:22Speaker 3: Can't explain things, bud. Okay. I also like the Niners-Falcons game.
- 4:28Speaker 3: Do you? I do. Not to say it's going to
- 4:31Speaker 3: be like crazy close.
- 4:32Speaker 4: I mean, I think the Falcons offense, if they are
- 4:36Speaker 4: maneuvering and playing well, I think they're a tough offense
- 4:39Speaker 4: to stop. And I mean, obviously, I'm liking the game
- 4:42Speaker 4: because I get to watch who I think is playing
- 4:44Speaker 4: the best quarterback position.
- 4:45Speaker 3: I get to watch Brock Purdy play.
- 4:48Speaker 4: But I do think that Michael Penix is pretty damn
- 4:52Speaker 4: good at the quarterback position. And with those weapons, I
- 4:55Speaker 4: think they're always going to have a puncher's chance at
- 4:58Speaker 4: a game. And they get the Niners traveling across the
- 5:01Speaker 4: country all.
- 5:02Speaker 3: The way from the west coast to the east coast.
- 5:05Speaker 3: Which is more difficult.
- 5:06Speaker 4: Which is definitely more difficult. So they get them. So
- 5:09Speaker 4: if they play a good game indoors, who knows what
- 5:12Speaker 4: can happen. I mean, obviously the line is going to
- 5:14Speaker 4: favor the Niners. They're two and a half point favorites
- 5:16Speaker 4: on the road. I like that game. I'm not calling
- 5:20Speaker 4: the Falcons to win it, but I call them for
- 5:21Speaker 4: that one to be a close one.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Big matchup in the NFC South as well with the
- 5:26Speaker 2: Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Carolina Panthers. Tampa Bay 1-5. Now,
- 5:32Speaker 2: Baker Mayfield is expected to be back in this one.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Does that matter? Does it matter going against the 3-2
- 5:40Speaker 2: Carolina Panthers? If you're a Saints fan, You're probably rooting
- 5:44Speaker 2: for Tampa Bay here so the Panthers get another loss
- 5:48Speaker 2: and the leader of the division would be a 3-3
- 5:51Speaker 2: football team. That's what you're hoping. Yeah, that's what you
- 5:54Speaker 2: have to be cheering for. But there's something about the Panthers, man.
- 5:57Speaker 2: I think they're a good football team. Bryce Young's playing great.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Running back's playing great. Two receivers are playing great. The
- 6:05Speaker 2: defense is doing enough. I don't think Carolina's going to
- 6:10Speaker 2: go away anytime soon.
- 6:11Speaker 3: No, they're not.
- 6:12Speaker 4: I mean, I guess their defense is the one side
- 6:16Speaker 4: of the ball that has been, I guess, playing a
- 6:19Speaker 4: little bit behind the other side. There are two losses
- 6:23Speaker 4: on the year. Loss of the Bears, 59-37, but they
- 6:26Speaker 4: still put up 37 points. Loss of the Browns and
- 6:30Speaker 4: a tough one in Cleveland, 21-18. But other than that, man,
- 6:34Speaker 4: have looked really good. I think the Panthers are for real.
- 6:38Speaker 4: If Bryce Young can continue his pace and play the
- 6:41Speaker 4: way he's playing. So, I think they're for a for
- 6:44Speaker 4: real team. So, Saints fans, you do. You got to
- 6:46Speaker 4: hope every single week that the Panthers drop one and
- 6:49Speaker 4: at least give you some sort of glimmer of hope.
- 6:54Speaker 3: You got to hope.
- 6:54Speaker 4: You got to take one back. You got to get
- 6:56Speaker 4: this win this weekend. You got to hope the Panthers
- 6:59Speaker 4: drop one. Even if that means cheering for the Bucs.
- 7:04Speaker 3: I just don't know.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Like, Baker Mayfield right now, if he comes back, like...
- 7:08Speaker 2: What kind of difference does it make?
- 7:11Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 7:12Speaker 4: It seems from a very, very far outsider's perspective that
- 7:15Speaker 4: they're kind of in shambles right now.
- 7:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:18Speaker 4: And it's hard to put your finger on what. I
- 7:20Speaker 4: don't follow them enough. I haven't even really watched them
- 7:24Speaker 4: play much. I watched them last week because they played
- 7:27Speaker 4: the Steelers, and I'm always interested in watching the Steelers play.
- 7:32Speaker 3: But other than that. Well, they lost in overtime.
- 7:34Speaker 2: They controlled a big portion of that game.
- 7:38Speaker 3: How about this, though?
- 7:40Speaker 2: For the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, at Cincinnati, they lost by six.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Versus the Browns, they lost by four. Versus the Minnesota Vikings,
- 7:48Speaker 2: they lost by seven. Against the Green Bay Packers, they
- 7:50Speaker 2: lost by three. They beat the Cowboys. And against the Steelers,
- 7:53Speaker 2: they lose by seven in overtime. Every game that they've
- 7:57Speaker 2: lost has been a one-score game. Every single one of them.
- 8:02Speaker 2: One score game.
- 8:04Speaker 3: So are they coming? Is that what you're saying? They're close?
- 8:07Speaker 2: They're one Baker Mayfield away? When I see that, it means, hey,
- 8:10Speaker 2: they're not bad. But, again, I got to stay true
- 8:12Speaker 2: to my saying. Good teams find a way just like
- 8:14Speaker 2: bad teams do.
- 8:16Speaker 4: Yeah, and unfortunately that's what we say about– we've said
- 8:19Speaker 4: about the Saints a lot.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:20Speaker 3: Right?
- 8:21Speaker 4: They got to find a way to win. You got
- 8:22Speaker 4: to win the ones you're supposed to, and you got
- 8:24Speaker 4: to pick off some that you're not. But when the
- 8:26Speaker 4: game is on the line, you got to find a
- 8:28Speaker 4: way to win, which is crazy because– The Tyler Shuck-led
- 8:33Speaker 4: Saints team was so good at the end of last
- 8:35Speaker 4: year with way less.
- 8:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:38Speaker 4: This year, they just haven't been able to find a way. And, yeah,
- 8:41Speaker 4: I know things, you know, you've got to catch a
- 8:44Speaker 4: few breaks here. Something's got to fall your way there,
- 8:46Speaker 4: whatever it is. But, man, you do. You have to,
- 8:49Speaker 4: if you want a chance to have any sort of
- 8:52Speaker 4: positive season, you've got to find a way to close
- 8:54Speaker 4: out games. But almost more importantly, you've got to find
- 8:57Speaker 4: a way to start games.
- 8:59Speaker 3: Yes.
- 9:01Speaker 2: No question about that. And again, the Buccaneers, well, they
- 9:03Speaker 2: started the last game really, really well. It looked like
- 9:06Speaker 2: they were about to have an easy victory. And then, well,
- 9:08Speaker 2: the Steelers came back. They forced overtime. And we all
- 9:10Speaker 2: know how that game ended. And right now, the NFC
- 9:14Speaker 2: South standings as we sit. Carolina is number one at 3-2.
- 9:19Speaker 3: Atlanta, 2-4. New Orleans, 2-4. Tampa Bay, 1-5.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Again, as bad as it's been for the New Orleans Saints,
- 9:32Speaker 2: you haven't had anybody really run away with it. I
- 9:36Speaker 2: think Carolina is good. I think Carolina is a good
- 9:39Speaker 2: football team. I think they're different than the other three teams.
- 9:42Speaker 3: I do.
- 9:45Speaker 4: The Saints, I don't see. Okay, so I think right now,
- 9:50Speaker 4: up to this point, I think the Panthers are different.
- 9:52Speaker 4: I do actually think the Falcons have a chance to
- 9:54Speaker 4: be different. if they can continue to improve on offense
- 9:57Speaker 4: and Pennix stays healthy, I don't know if the Saints
- 10:00Speaker 4: have that same feeling for me. If they just turn
- 10:05Speaker 4: it around a little bit, they have the roster. They
- 10:08Speaker 4: have the team to do it and to put any
- 10:11Speaker 4: trust in them. I think the Falcons could potentially get
- 10:14Speaker 4: to that point where you're like, I trust this team.
- 10:16Speaker 3: Right.
- 10:17Speaker 4: Week in, week out to at least put on a
- 10:18Speaker 4: good– put a good product out there.
- 10:20Speaker 2: I thought they had changed it. I thought they had
- 10:22Speaker 2: turned it around. After they beat Green Bay the way
- 10:24Speaker 2: they did, I'm like, this is the team with all
- 10:27Speaker 2: the offensive weapons that we thought they could be.
- 10:29Speaker 3: And then the last two weeks, I just– Yeah, it's
- 10:31Speaker 3: not as good.
- 10:31Speaker 2: MC South is so hard. It's so hard to figure
- 10:34Speaker 2: out what is what, who is who. But I do
- 10:37Speaker 2: think right now Carolina does look a little bit different.
- 10:39Speaker 3: I trust them.
- 10:40Speaker 4: Like if I was a better, I trust them at
- 10:42Speaker 4: least to keep me in the game.
- 10:44Speaker 3: Yeah. Every week.
- 10:46Speaker 2: All right, before we step away, and when we come back,
- 10:49Speaker 2: we'll dive more into the Steelers and the Saints. But
- 10:52Speaker 2: before we do go away, I want to remind you
- 10:54Speaker 2: about our friends over at Bayou Automotive. BayouAutomotive.com is the website.
- 11:00Speaker 2: So the last couple of weeks, I've been driving around
- 11:03Speaker 2: in the old Ford Bronco. Before that, I had the F-150.
- 11:06Speaker 2: Before that, I had the Jeep Wrangler. And now, a
- 11:10Speaker 2: little expedition there, bud.
- 11:12Speaker 3: No. Oh, yeah. Are you serious? You know why? Because
- 11:14Speaker 3: there's a little bit of everything.
- 11:16Speaker 2: At Bayou Automotive, Ford, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram.
- 11:19Speaker 3: They got it all, right?
- 11:21Speaker 2: And they've got incredible customer service. It's a quick drive
- 11:23Speaker 2: down to La Paz, Louisiana. But like for me yesterday,
- 11:27Speaker 2: guess what they did? They delivered the vehicle to the
- 11:29Speaker 2: capital city because that's what it'll do for you as well.
- 11:32Speaker 2: And then once you buy from there, if you need
- 11:34Speaker 2: routine maintenance and oil change, whatever it is, they're going
- 11:36Speaker 2: to pick your vehicle up, give you a loaner, and
- 11:38Speaker 2: then bring your vehicle back. It's an incredible service that
- 11:40Speaker 2: they offer over at Bayou Automotive. And they do it
- 11:43Speaker 2: for you every single time. Go to BayouAutomotive.com today to
- 11:47Speaker 2: find out more information.
- 11:49Speaker 3: All right.
- 11:49Speaker 2: When we come back, Saints and Steelers in Paris. We'll
- 11:53Speaker 2: break it down here on OTB. Off the bench. Tigers
- 12:13Speaker 2: turn talkers. This is Off the Bench. All right, welcome
- 12:17Speaker 2: back in OTV. Here live from Rouse's Burbank and Leak.
- 12:43Speaker 2: And we're taking a look at the NFL slate. Well,
- 12:45Speaker 2: we've talked about some of the big games of the weekend.
- 12:48Speaker 2: And here in this segment, we're going to talk a
- 12:49Speaker 2: little Saints and Steelers. This one's going to be played
- 12:53Speaker 2: in Paris. As we all know, we've talked about it
- 12:55Speaker 2: all week long. And this is going to be a
- 12:57Speaker 2: game where you're the home team, but it doesn't really matter.
- 13:00Speaker 3: Neutral site game. We get it.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Pittsburgh right now on ESPN matchup predictor. 59.9% chance to
- 13:07Speaker 2: win this game. The point spread. It opened up at 2.5%.
- 13:10Speaker 2: It sits right now at minus 3%. for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Now,
- 13:15Speaker 2: I don't love this matchup for the New Orleans Saints.
- 13:18Speaker 2: I think Warren and Dowdle are good running backs that
- 13:22Speaker 2: they are going to lean on in this game. You
- 13:24Speaker 2: have not been good at stopping the run. It is
- 13:26Speaker 2: not something you do well, and I think Pittsburgh is
- 13:29Speaker 2: going to lean on the run game, and Aaron Rodgers
- 13:32Speaker 2: is going to have a couple of big plays in
- 13:34Speaker 2: play action because of it.
- 13:36Speaker 3: So that's some of the advantages.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Also, I don't love thinking of a young interior offensive
- 13:42Speaker 2: lineman who's probably going to get the start there for
- 13:44Speaker 2: Cesar Ruiz trying to block Cam Hayward don't love that
- 13:47Speaker 2: he was the highest graded defensive tackle in all of
- 13:49Speaker 2: football last year he's still playing at an incredibly high
- 13:53Speaker 2: level and he played against us in college yeah that's
- 13:57Speaker 2: how long he's been playing okay so I don't love
- 14:00Speaker 2: some of the matchups man I just I look at
- 14:03Speaker 2: what the Steelers do well and it's what you don't
- 14:05Speaker 2: do well it is going to take Tyler Shuck to
- 14:10Speaker 2: Chris Alave getting Jawan Johnson heavily involved. And one of,
- 14:15Speaker 2: just please God, one of the running backs to have
- 14:18Speaker 2: a game to step up. Now, AK last week, I
- 14:20Speaker 2: thought he played well. But if you're going to give
- 14:23Speaker 2: Kendre Miller 20 carries and him average three yards again,
- 14:26Speaker 2: I don't know that you can get that game that
- 14:27Speaker 2: you're needing from your running back. And it can be
- 14:30Speaker 2: any of the three running backs, but somebody's got to
- 14:33Speaker 2: step up. Somebody has to go out there, put it
- 14:36Speaker 2: on their shoulders, and have a game. You've got to
- 14:39Speaker 2: have Shuck and Alave and Jawan Johnson and Devon Bailey
- 14:44Speaker 2: do what they've done most of the year. But if
- 14:46Speaker 2: you don't have a running game, if you can't establish
- 14:48Speaker 2: a run against a physical football team like the Pittsburgh Steelers,
- 14:51Speaker 2: who they're going to push you around if you don't.
- 14:54Speaker 2: They're going to bully you a little bit if you don't.
- 14:56Speaker 2: They've got really good pass rushers. It's not just Cam Hayward.
- 14:59Speaker 2: It's not just T.J.
- 15:00Speaker 3: Watt. It's Highsmith.
- 15:01Speaker 2: It's the whole group of rushers that they have on
- 15:04Speaker 2: that football team. And Matt, you know this as well
- 15:06Speaker 2: as I do. If you can't run and you get
- 15:09Speaker 2: away from the run, they're going to pin their ears back,
- 15:11Speaker 2: and it's going to be a long day for Tyler Shuck.
- 15:14Speaker 3: Yeah, it is.
- 15:16Speaker 4: And so I look at the game, the matchup for me,
- 15:21Speaker 4: trying to decide whether I like the matchup or I
- 15:24Speaker 4: don't like it. And obviously in a world where all
- 15:27Speaker 4: these games in the NFL are so hard to pick
- 15:30Speaker 4: each and every week, and it's getting to be like
- 15:31Speaker 4: that in college as well, I just kind of look
- 15:36Speaker 4: at a little bit more broad view of it. The
- 15:39Speaker 4: Steelers forever have always been known as being a hard-nosed
- 15:43Speaker 4: football team, right? AFC North, everybody in that division, hard-nosed,
- 15:47Speaker 4: workmanlike mentality. We're going to grind, do whatever it takes
- 15:50Speaker 4: to win. Doesn't have to be flashing. Well, since Aaron
- 15:54Speaker 4: Rodgers has been there, that is what they have. They
- 15:58Speaker 4: have found a way with limited, I'm not going to
- 16:01Speaker 4: say limited talent, but not the best roster in the NFL.
- 16:05Speaker 4: Not the best roster that they've, like in the AFC North.
- 16:09Speaker 4: They have found ways to win gritty games, nasty games.
- 16:13Speaker 4: It seems like they're not blowing anybody out ever. They
- 16:16Speaker 4: are always– and now do they come out on the
- 16:18Speaker 4: right side of that every time? No, but every single
- 16:21Speaker 4: game is close. Like they are bred and born and
- 16:24Speaker 4: bred like in the fire of competition in the back
- 16:27Speaker 4: half of games. So they're a little bit more accustomed
- 16:29Speaker 4: to going into every fourth quarter– With a chance, with
- 16:33Speaker 4: a tight lead, maybe down a little bit, but finding
- 16:37Speaker 4: ways to win. And that is something that you've got
- 16:39Speaker 4: to question from the Saints. You've proven to us time
- 16:42Speaker 4: and time again that you can't close.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Right.
- 16:45Speaker 4: You certainly can't start, so let's not even think that
- 16:47Speaker 4: that's going to happen. I don't think another country is
- 16:49Speaker 4: going to make you start any better.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Maybe that's what it is.
- 16:52Speaker 3: Maybe that's what it is. Flip it. Maybe that's what
- 16:54Speaker 3: it is. I don't know.
- 16:56Speaker 4: You've got to go to another hemisphere. You've got to
- 16:58Speaker 4: go to the southern hemisphere so that everything spins the
- 17:00Speaker 4: different way so you can flip that first 15 the
- 17:03Speaker 4: other way too. I don't trust the Saints if the
- 17:09Speaker 4: game's close headed into the fourth quarter, and I'm sorry.
- 17:12Speaker 4: I thought differently multiple weeks ago because of the success
- 17:16Speaker 4: they had under a Tyler Shuck-led offense last season. I
- 17:20Speaker 4: felt differently than that. I was like, man, you put
- 17:22Speaker 4: the ball in Tyler's hand. He's got the best QBR.
- 17:24Speaker 4: He's got all this completion percentage, all these things that
- 17:26Speaker 4: he did in the last year.
- 17:29Speaker 3: It's not him. It's everything else.
- 17:31Speaker 2: That goes around with it. Matt, if you can't run
- 17:33Speaker 2: the football, just like if you can't throw it, your
- 17:36Speaker 2: runners aren't going to have success. If you can't run it,
- 17:38Speaker 2: your quarterback is going to have to do so much
- 17:41Speaker 2: on his own. And he did until teams were like, hey, hey,
- 17:45Speaker 2: we don't have to put that guy in the box.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Put him out in coverage. hey, we can actually have
- 17:49Speaker 2: six guys in the box.
- 17:50Speaker 3: We're going to be fine. We're going to be fine.
- 17:52Speaker 2: Our number's going to be okay against this Saints rushing attack.
- 17:55Speaker 2: And you know that, like, once that happens, then you
- 17:57Speaker 2: get more guys out in the coverage and the windows
- 18:00Speaker 2: aren't there. And they don't have to be aggressive in
- 18:02Speaker 2: the run game because they know they can handle it
- 18:03Speaker 2: with a base box. And I just, I don't see
- 18:07Speaker 2: that changing until the Saints show that they can do
- 18:09Speaker 2: something in.
- 18:09Speaker 3: The run game.
- 18:10Speaker 4: No, it's, they are going to run the ball, run
- 18:13Speaker 4: the ball, run the ball. They'll RPO you to death
- 18:16Speaker 4: they're going to play action you they're going to naked
- 18:18Speaker 4: bootleg Aaron Rodgers out and get to the get to
- 18:20Speaker 4: their big ass tight end in the flat they are
- 18:22Speaker 4: going to try to big boy and if they are
- 18:26Speaker 4: going to try to AFC North football you and they
- 18:29Speaker 4: are going to do it until you prove that you
- 18:31Speaker 4: can stop it I just don't know if they can
- 18:33Speaker 4: or not maybe early on maybe there's a lot of
- 18:35Speaker 4: juices flowing you've been there a week um you're excited
- 18:39Speaker 4: about the opportunity you're the you know, Gail Benson's words
- 18:43Speaker 4: are still probably hanging up in the locker room right there.
- 18:45Speaker 3: Like, so there's going to be some juices in Petty.
- 18:50Speaker 4: But I think that they are, the Steelers are going
- 18:53Speaker 4: to grind you down by the end of that game.
- 18:55Speaker 4: And it's going to take a good effort. If the
- 18:57Speaker 4: Saints want a chance to win, Tyler Shuck, Juwan Johnson,
- 19:01Speaker 4: Chris Olave, that passing game has got to do it.
- 19:04Speaker 4: And My prediction is if the Saints find a way
- 19:08Speaker 4: to win it, again, you're going to look at that
- 19:10Speaker 4: statistical sheet, the stat sheet at the end of the game,
- 19:13Speaker 4: and Tyler Shuck's going to have somewhere between 20 and
- 19:14Speaker 4: 40 yards rushing.
- 19:15Speaker 3: He's going to have to do it with his legs.
- 19:17Speaker 3: Which helped a lot last week. Yeah.
- 19:19Speaker 2: I mean, that helps. And so, like, I know what
- 19:21Speaker 2: the rushing numbers were against the Giants like a week ago,
- 19:25Speaker 2: but you look at what the Giants' rush defense is
- 19:29Speaker 2: and you kind of look at Tyler Shuck like adding, like,
- 19:31Speaker 2: that has to happen. That has to happen. And they
- 19:35Speaker 2: committed to the run last week, too. Again, Kendrick Miller
- 19:39Speaker 2: got 20 carries. Now, they didn't average over four yards.
- 19:45Speaker 2: He was three yards and some change. But last week,
- 19:49Speaker 2: your numbers were up. because you did say committed because
- 19:51Speaker 2: you're playing with a lead yeah you were playing with
- 19:53Speaker 2: a big lead so you could commit to the run
- 19:55Speaker 2: so that's where those numbers are kind of coming from
- 19:58Speaker 2: you're playing with a lead you say hey you know
- 19:59Speaker 2: what we don't have to try to have big hitters
- 20:02Speaker 2: here let's just try to get some first downs on
- 20:03Speaker 2: the ground let's churn some of this clock and so
- 20:06Speaker 2: that's what you saw them do so is that going
- 20:07Speaker 2: to be the same situation here That's, it's got to
- 20:11Speaker 2: be a formula. Like you have to stay with it.
- 20:13Speaker 2: You got to try to punch through. I just, I
- 20:16Speaker 2: don't know right now if you can get that done,
- 20:18Speaker 2: but the Giants, you know, because throughout the week, a
- 20:21Speaker 2: lot of people have said, hey, well, you know, ran
- 20:23Speaker 2: it pretty good last week, ran it pretty good last week.
- 20:26Speaker 2: The Giants, they are, let's see, 32, 31, 29th in
- 20:30Speaker 2: rush defense. They give up 135 and a half yards
- 20:31Speaker 2: per game on the ground.
- 20:34Speaker 3: Okay.
- 20:39Speaker 1: Right.
- 20:40Speaker 2: So, again, they're one of the worst rush defenses in
- 20:42Speaker 2: all of football.
- 20:44Speaker 3: Good.
- 20:44Speaker 2: Pittsburgh is somewhere right outside the top 10. They're like
- 20:47Speaker 2: number 12. They only give up 103.
- 20:49Speaker 3: Yards per game.
- 20:50Speaker 2: It's a different matchup. So, yeah, you had 180. You
- 20:53Speaker 2: had 180 because you had a lead and you stayed
- 20:55Speaker 2: committed to it. Again, I tip my cap because some
- 20:57Speaker 2: teams don't do that. And your quarterback had some rushing
- 20:59Speaker 2: yards as well. It's going to be a different matchup.
- 21:01Speaker 2: That's why we're saying in this matchup with this team
- 21:04Speaker 2: that you're going against, you have to have that.
- 21:07Speaker 3: You have to do some of that.
- 21:10Speaker 4: So we will see. Look, bigger things, bigger surprises have happened.
- 21:15Speaker 4: We're not saying that the Steelers are some just unbeatable juggernaut.
- 21:19Speaker 4: Just the matchup up to this point in the season
- 21:22Speaker 4: doesn't look the best to us.
- 21:24Speaker 2: Adam, I can't tell if you're being real or not.
- 21:26Speaker 2: He said Kendre was 20 for 70 yards. That's effective.
- 21:31Speaker 2: The 20 part of it is effective.
- 21:32Speaker 3: Yeah, it is. I like that.
- 21:36Speaker 2: But he's averaging a little bit over three yards a carry.
- 21:38Speaker 2: You'd want more when 20 carries.
- 21:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Against a rush defense that's 29th in the NFL.
- 21:45Speaker 3: Hey, but three and a third. Three and a third
- 21:47Speaker 3: every single play. First down ball. That's first down. That's
- 21:50Speaker 3: first down. Let's go.
- 21:52Speaker 4: The chains. Look, it is effective. Now, how much does
- 21:56Speaker 4: it affect you? I don't know. 20 for 70. I mean,
- 22:01Speaker 4: it's decent. You wouldn't confuse it with a great game.
- 22:06Speaker 4: But it was better. It was better. It moved in
- 22:10Speaker 4: the right direction. So hopefully they can continue that trend.
- 22:14Speaker 2: So, yeah, and as they mentioned in the chat there,
- 22:16Speaker 2: Caden Ellis, getting him back on the field was a
- 22:19Speaker 2: full go. You've got to get him back. He is
- 22:21Speaker 2: so important to the middle of that defense. That would
- 22:24Speaker 2: be a big, big addition there. You've missed him the
- 22:27Speaker 2: last couple of weeks. Anthony Jennings as well, though. Anthony Jennings,
- 22:31Speaker 2: he's an edge guy. His best thing that he does
- 22:34Speaker 2: is against the run, though. No doubt about it. Getting
- 22:36Speaker 2: him back would be a step in the right direction
- 22:39Speaker 2: as well. So we'll continue to follow. We'll continue to
- 22:41Speaker 2: look at that injury report. It's going to be key,
- 22:43Speaker 2: a couple names there.
- 22:44Speaker 4: And I've got to say, like I've told you all,
- 22:46Speaker 4: not traditionally been a Saints fan, but I've told you
- 22:49Speaker 4: all since doing this show and covering them a lot more,
- 22:52Speaker 4: I watch the Saints games, and I find myself cheering
- 22:55Speaker 4: with my heart.
- 22:56Speaker 1: Right?
- 22:57Speaker 4: I'm going to be interested going into this game. I'm
- 22:59Speaker 4: just going to turn the game on, right? I'm just
- 23:00Speaker 4: going to start watching it. I'll be interested to see
- 23:02Speaker 4: who the heart cheers for this week.
- 23:04Speaker 3: Oh, because your boy. I know.
- 23:06Speaker 4: I know. I got a feeling it's going to be
- 23:07Speaker 4: the Steelers, but I don't want to have that feeling.
- 23:11Speaker 3: I want to see.
- 23:11Speaker 4: I want to see who the heart, like on the
- 23:13Speaker 4: third down, is the heart saying, come on now.
- 23:16Speaker 3: Come on, Steelers. Stop them here. I don't know. Maybe
- 23:19Speaker 3: it'll be the Saints.
- 23:20Speaker 2: It's going to be a big test.
- 23:21Speaker 3: My heart's going to be with the Saints. No doubt
- 23:22Speaker 3: about it. And look, I.
- 23:24Speaker 2: I enjoyed my couple days there in Latrobe, PA, breaking
- 23:28Speaker 2: down the Steelers. But, yeah, no, I'm going with Saints.
- 23:30Speaker 3: And C.J.
- 23:31Speaker 2: Donaldson is somebody I'd like to see get a little
- 23:33Speaker 2: bit more rut. I know he had the fumble. I
- 23:35Speaker 2: know he had the fumble. But just watching the tape,
- 23:38Speaker 2: watching the end zone copy, and seeing the running backs
- 23:40Speaker 2: that have played for you this year, he sees it
- 23:42Speaker 2: better than the other guys right now.
- 23:43Speaker 3: He sees it better. He fumbled.
- 23:46Speaker 2: And I know what gets you on the bench faster
- 23:48Speaker 2: than anything at the running back position. You put the
- 23:50Speaker 2: ball on the ground. You can come stand by me.
- 23:52Speaker 2: But I would like to see him get a couple
- 23:53Speaker 2: more carries because I do think he is a good
- 23:56Speaker 2: player this year with a little juice to him. Started
- 23:59Speaker 2: out playing fullback for the Saints, but when he's gotten carries,
- 24:03Speaker 2: he's been productive. All right, we are going to step away,
- 24:06Speaker 2: continue talking a little football Friday here when we come
- 24:09Speaker 2: back live from Rouse's on OTB. Off the bench. All right,
- 24:16Speaker 2: go to getgordon.com, getgordon.com. Gordon McKernan, injury attorneys throughout the

- 24:58Speaker 4: You wrote a whole book on there. But your hands
- 25:00Speaker 4: started sweating sometimes.
- 25:01Speaker 3: Nah. Eh, me neither. Go to getgordon.com. Have you been injured?
- 25:06Speaker 3: Job site?

- 26:05Speaker 3: All right, we'll go back in.
- 26:06Speaker 2: OTB here live from Rouse's. I want to remind you,
- 26:10Speaker 2: there's another Louisiana Card Con coming to Louisiana, October 31st
- 26:14Speaker 2: through November 1st. It's going to be there in Mandeville, Louisiana.
- 26:18Speaker 2: 300 tables of cards and collectibles. Pierre Thomas. is going
- 26:23Speaker 2: to be signing free autographs. Of course, New Orleans Saints legend.
- 26:27Speaker 2: You got trick-or-treat stations for the kiddos on Saturday with
- 26:30Speaker 2: free candy, cards, and squishies.
- 26:33Speaker 3: $ 5 entry.
- 26:34Speaker 2: You can find more information.
- 26:35Speaker 3: That's right.
- 26:36Speaker 2: I said squishies. You have kids. You know what that means. LouisianaCardCon.com. LouisianaCardCon.com. Again,
- 26:43Speaker 2: coming up on October the 31st, which is, of course, Halloween.
- 26:46Speaker 2: through November the 1st there in Mandeville on the North Shore.
- 26:50Speaker 3: LouisianaCardCon.com. We're talking butter squishies.
- 26:54Speaker 2: You probably got them all.
- 26:55Speaker 3: Dumpling squishies. Oh, we got so many. Yeah. All the squishies.
- 26:59Speaker 4: And then, like, just random ones pop up at the house. Like,
- 27:02Speaker 4: where'd you get this thing? I traded for it.
- 27:04Speaker 2: I was about to say, if I know my man,
- 27:07Speaker 2: Huck Flynn, like I think I do, he's bartering out there.
- 27:10Speaker 3: Oh, they're wheeling and dealing.
- 27:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:11Speaker 3: Squishes and fidgets, man. I think it's slowing down. I
- 27:15Speaker 3: think it's slowing down.
- 27:16Speaker 4: Fidget's back? Fidget's kind of, I would say they probably
- 27:23Speaker 4: got replaced a little bit.
- 27:25Speaker 3: No, the Squishies. I don't know. It's crazy, bro. It's
- 27:31Speaker 3: wild out here in these streets. It's wild out here
- 27:32Speaker 3: in these streets. I don't want none. All right. Fair enough.
- 27:35Speaker 2: We had one of the teams that looked like they
- 27:38Speaker 2: could make a playoff run go down last night, Matt.
- 27:41Speaker 3: Who?
- 27:41Speaker 2: Yeah, one of the teams that could make a playoff
- 27:43Speaker 2: run lost last night.
- 27:46Speaker 4: Okay.
- 27:46Speaker 3: College football. Oh, who was it? Memphis played? Is that
- 27:53Speaker 3: that team?
- 27:55Speaker 2: No, we didn't have a flag game with my son. Oh,
- 27:58Speaker 2: Memphis Tigers, bro.
- 27:59Speaker 3: Oh, sorry. I can't remember. James Madison. James Madison. They lost.
- 28:03Speaker 2: They went down to Appalachian State 34-31.
- 28:06Speaker 3: Oh, interesting.
- 28:08Speaker 2: In overtime, Appalachian State nailed a field goal to win 34-31.
- 28:12Speaker 2: First loss of the year. for James Madison. Now 7-1.
- 28:18Speaker 3: Good riddance, you know.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Billy Napier, of course, the coach at James Madison now.
- 28:23Speaker 3: Did you know that? I did know that.
- 28:24Speaker 4: Now that you said it, I wasn't going to pop that.
- 28:27Speaker 4: If that was multiple choice, I'm getting it. If that
- 28:30Speaker 4: was a fill in the blank, I ain't getting it.
- 28:33Speaker 2: So, James Madison, then their likelihood of making the CFP
- 28:38Speaker 2: is not going to happen because, well, they didn't really
- 28:41Speaker 2: have anybody on their schedule that was going to hold
- 28:43Speaker 2: up enough for them to have A loss. And so, look,
- 28:47Speaker 2: unless something crazy happens. We had two G6 teams make it.
- 28:50Speaker 3: A year ago. But, yeah. I think that's a good loss.
- 28:54Speaker 3: I think that's a good loss for everybody. Goes down
- 28:56Speaker 3: to Appalachian State. Yep. I think the less G6 teams. Well, now,
- 29:01Speaker 3: I mean. The better.
- 29:03Speaker 2: The captain of all G6 teams. Looks like they're in
- 29:06Speaker 2: a position.
- 29:07Speaker 3: Tell everybody else. Because, obviously, I don't know. Who's the captain?
- 29:11Speaker 3: Who do you think? If I was to say, like.
- 29:13Speaker 2: The captain of the g6.
- 29:15Speaker 4: Captain of the g6 boise state yeah yes there you
- 29:19Speaker 4: go high five you got it that was well i
- 29:22Speaker 4: was filling the blank.
- 29:23Speaker 3: Too uh they're 20 i.
- 29:25Speaker 2: Didn't give you multiple choice oh you're an idiot boise
- 29:31Speaker 2: state is as we mentioned earlier taking on washington state
- 29:34Speaker 2: but now they look like the clear favorite of the
- 29:36Speaker 2: g6 rep in the college football playoff they're 21st in
- 29:39Speaker 2: the country, the only team that is ranked. And look, JMU,
- 29:43Speaker 2: if Boise did have another slip-up, they would figure to
- 29:46Speaker 2: slide right in there. But James Madison, with that loss,
- 29:50Speaker 2: who was, let's see, 26th, 27th, 28th, they were.
- 29:52Speaker 3: Technically 29th in the country overall.
- 29:55Speaker 2: In the polls there, if you look at others receiving votes,
- 29:59Speaker 2: now it clearly looks like it is going to be
- 30:02Speaker 2: the Broncos of Boise State.
- 30:05Speaker 3: Although New Mexico, I guess, is still there. A little frisky. Yeah, frisky.
- 30:10Speaker 3: All right. New Mexico 5-1 on the year.
- 30:13Speaker 4: I feel like if it's Boise State, it gives everybody
- 30:16Speaker 4: a comfort feeling at least.
- 30:18Speaker 3: Nothing to shake your fist at.
- 30:20Speaker 4: JMU still hadn't reached that comfort zone level for the
- 30:23Speaker 4: general public, I don't think. New Mexico certainly wouldn't feel
- 30:26Speaker 4: comfortable with that. But if Boise State's in the playoffs,
- 30:29Speaker 4: you're like, oh, okay. That makes sense.
- 30:31Speaker 3: They're a blue blood. Are they a blue? Is Boise
- 30:34Speaker 3: State a blue blood? Hold on a second. Blue turf.
- 30:38Speaker 3: They got blue turf. Are they a blue blood? They're
- 30:40Speaker 3: just consistently there. They're always there. For G6, obviously. They're
- 30:44Speaker 3: always there. But for college football. I'll give you a
- 30:49Speaker 3: soft maybe.
- 30:49Speaker 4: A soft maybe. It's interesting. Of course, they're never going
- 30:52Speaker 4: to win at all. But they're just always there. It's
- 30:55Speaker 4: kind of like Gonzaga. Is Gonzaga a blue blood? Yeah,
- 30:59Speaker 4: I think Gonzaga's a blue blood.
- 31:00Speaker 3: I don't know. Are they comparable to Boise State? They
- 31:03Speaker 3: haven't won one.
- 31:04Speaker 2: Gonzaga's been to two finals, final games, national championship games.
- 31:09Speaker 3: They lost to North Carolina and UConn, which are blue bloods.
- 31:12Speaker 2: Right. I don't know. Gonzaga's, like, right there on the line.
- 31:15Speaker 2: If Gonzaga's not, Boise's not.
- 31:16Speaker 3: No, for sure. For sure.
- 31:18Speaker 2: Because Gonzaga, I mean, they had the lead with, like,
- 31:21Speaker 2: a minute 30 left in a natty against North Carolina
- 31:24Speaker 2: and lost.
- 31:24Speaker 3: But, I mean, you've got to think. They're right there.
- 31:25Speaker 4: The smaller school that's relevant every year for the last, what,
- 31:30Speaker 4: 25 years, 20 years?
- 31:31Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, since we were playing. Hard to do. Yeah.
- 31:35Speaker 3: Hard to do. It is. I mean, yeah. Poll question
- 31:39Speaker 3: of the day. Poll question of the day. Are they
- 31:41Speaker 3: going to be in a– are they going to be, like,
- 31:42Speaker 3: in a– Are they going to do a Pac-12 situation? Who?
- 31:46Speaker 3: Boise State. They are in the Pac-12. Are they? Yeah. Okay, yeah.
- 31:50Speaker 3: Did I just inform you of that? No, no. Okay,
- 31:52Speaker 3: now that you say it. My bad. Sure. Now that
- 31:54Speaker 3: I say it. Now that you say it. Multiple choice.
- 31:57Speaker 2: I think Gonzaga is actually moving to the Pac-12 this year.
- 32:01Speaker 4: At what point does the Pac-12 not become part of
- 32:04Speaker 4: the G6?
- 32:08Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 32:09Speaker 2: It's not bad. I'm not going to say it's bad,
- 32:12Speaker 2: but I'll give you a list of the teams.
- 32:14Speaker 3: It's not great. I'll give you a list of the
- 32:15Speaker 3: teams if you tell me.
- 32:17Speaker 2: You've got Oregon State, Boise State, San Diego State, Texas State,
- 32:21Speaker 2: Utah State, Fresno State, Colorado State, and Washington State.
- 32:25Speaker 3: They should call it the state conference. Yeah, it's too
- 32:27Speaker 3: many states. Whoa. Every team has stayed in it. That's...
- 32:33Speaker 3: All right. I want the Beavers. Five and two.
- 32:37Speaker 4: That was hard for me to just like my traditional brain.
- 32:42Speaker 4: Wrapping my head around the Pac-12 like a G6.
- 32:45Speaker 3: Yeah. It's hard. It's hard to do. What a shame.
- 32:48Speaker 3: Hold these states.
- 32:50Speaker 4: Oh, kind of speaking on that same note, I did
- 32:52Speaker 4: a little math at one of our breaks. The classic
- 32:56Speaker 4: ACC matchup we were discussing earlier between Cal Berkeley and SMU.
- 33:02Speaker 3: Yeah. This weekend. That's right. You heard it right. ACC.
- 33:07Speaker 3: They are a combined....
- 33:11Speaker 4: The closest distance from either one of those schools, the
- 33:15Speaker 4: closest point of the Atlantic coast as the crow flies
- 33:23Speaker 4: is Georgia's coastline, Jekyll Island, St. Simons, and Sapello. I
- 33:28Speaker 4: don't know if I'm saying that right. Sapello Island. It's
- 33:30Speaker 4: in Georgia, part of the Atlantic coast. That's the closest
- 33:33Speaker 4: point as the crow flies to Dallas.
- 33:36Speaker 3: And to Berkeley. Okay. Okay.
- 33:39Speaker 4: Cal is 2,355 miles away from its closest point to
- 33:43Speaker 4: the Atlantic Ocean. SMU, 910 miles. So a combined travel
- 33:49Speaker 4: distance as a crow flies, Jake, 3,265 yards between these two.
- 33:55Speaker 1: Yards?
- 33:56Speaker 3: Yards. Miles. I don't know. That would be a little
- 33:58Speaker 3: bit more comforting.
- 33:59Speaker 4: 3,265 miles combined between these two ACC schools. So the
- 34:05Speaker 4: closest point to the Atlantic Ocean for both of them.
- 34:09Speaker 4: That's as a crow flies, but don't you try to
- 34:10Speaker 4: get in a car. It's going to be way more
- 34:12Speaker 4: than that. It's going to take you a long, long time.
- 34:15Speaker 4: So a little bit strange world we live in right now,
- 34:20Speaker 4: but it is a classic matchup. Do you know how
- 34:23Speaker 4: these two teams are faring in the ACC?
- 34:29Speaker 3: Yeah, SMU's doing good. Cal's doing bad. Is SMU doing good?
- 34:32Speaker 3: They're ranked. All right.
- 34:36Speaker 2: That's the only reason we talked about it. That's the
- 34:38Speaker 2: only reason they got a mention. It's because we're going
- 34:40Speaker 2: through the ranked on ranked, or at least like one
- 34:43Speaker 2: team in the top 25 matchups.
- 34:45Speaker 4: Do you even think about the geography anymore? About all
- 34:52Speaker 4: these weird conferences? It was like hot news when they
- 34:57Speaker 4: first announced.
- 34:58Speaker 3: Yeah. Honestly, I just forget about it. I kind of
- 35:01Speaker 3: forget about it.
- 35:01Speaker 2: I forget about it until somebody goes and plays Cal.
- 35:04Speaker 2: Like when Clemson went and played Cal, I'm like, why
- 35:06Speaker 2: the hell are they going to Cal?
- 35:07Speaker 3: Yeah, conference.
- 35:08Speaker 2: They're Clemson.
- 35:09Speaker 3: Oh, they have to.
- 35:10Speaker 2: It's required.
- 35:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:12Speaker 2: It's a trip that they have to make because it's
- 35:14Speaker 2: a conference game. Jeez.
- 35:16Speaker 3: It's still dumb. Super dumb. Still doesn't make a whole
- 35:19Speaker 3: lot of sense.
- 35:21Speaker 4: 2,355 miles from Cal Berkeley to Jekyll Island, Georgia.
- 35:27Speaker 3: Tight. And Cal stinks. They're three and four.
- 35:33Speaker 2: And Kevin Jennings is the quarterback for SMU for the
- 35:36Speaker 2: 17th season.
- 35:37Speaker 3: You can't tell me otherwise. He hadn't gotten worse or better.
- 35:40Speaker 2: No, but he's been there.
- 35:43Speaker 3: He's been okay.
- 35:43Speaker 4: You know what you're going to get. You're going to
- 35:45Speaker 4: be good. You're not going to be great. You're not
- 35:47Speaker 4: going to be bad.
- 35:48Speaker 2: That is so fair, and he's exactly right. Classic ACC matchup.
- 35:55Speaker 3: My coach used to tell me, if you're not getting better,
- 35:57Speaker 3: you're getting worse. He's done neither. He made my coach
- 36:01Speaker 3: a liar.
- 36:01Speaker 4: He did. Because he did not get better and he
- 36:04Speaker 4: did not get worse.
- 36:05Speaker 3: For like six years, same guy, same identical guy.
- 36:09Speaker 2: All right, we are going to take a break.
- 36:12Speaker 3: More OTB.
- 36:13Speaker 2: We still got your favorite games coming up. We got
- 36:15Speaker 2: a little What's the Ticket? NFL and college version. Then
- 36:20Speaker 2: we've got the old pontoon parlay NFL and college version.
- 36:24Speaker 3: So a laundry back in studio. Tell Paulie what that means.
- 36:28Speaker 3: Paul should Paul should know this.
- 36:30Speaker 2: Paul's an OG hanging with Hester 6 to 8 p.m.
- 36:34Speaker 3: Producer. He should know some of these games. Well, that's
- 36:37Speaker 3: pontoon parlay.
- 36:38Speaker 2: I gave him the rundown, but I didn't know that
- 36:39Speaker 2: we were doing NFL parlay, but I'm down.
- 36:43Speaker 3: You know why? You know why we're doing that?
- 36:45Speaker 2: Because B-Rabbit over here in the middle of the show
- 36:48Speaker 2: said we should do an NFL pontoon parlay, Alondra.
- 36:51Speaker 3: I'm down. He made the executive decision. I thought it'd
- 36:55Speaker 3: be fun. Yeah.
- 36:57Speaker 2: She said she's down twice.
- 36:58Speaker 3: It's good.
- 36:58Speaker 4: Hey, Alondra, we did it last year and we called
- 37:00Speaker 4: it something. Jake couldn't remember what it was because he's dumb.
- 37:02Speaker 1: I think it was the party barge or something.
- 37:04Speaker 3: Party barge. There it is. The NFL party barge coming
- 37:08Speaker 3: at you.
- 37:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 37:09Speaker 3: Today.
- 37:10Speaker 2: Real big dum-dum. All right, we'll take a break. More
- 37:13Speaker 2: OTB when we come back here live from Rossi. Off
- 37:17Speaker 2: the bench. All right, go to RussellPools.com, RussellPools.com. Our friends
- 37:22Speaker 2: over at Russell Pool Company have been in the game
- 37:24Speaker 2: since the 1960s. Matt, if you're building pools in the
- 37:27Speaker 2: same area since the 1960s.
- 37:28Speaker 3: Do you do it well?
- 37:29Speaker 2: I think you do it real well. Because if you didn't,
- 37:31Speaker 2: you wouldn't be in business, right? I think you'd probably
- 37:33Speaker 2: be the best. Yeah, I think you'd be the best
- 37:34Speaker 2: as well. That's why Russell Pools is the best. They've
- 37:36Speaker 2: been here since the 1960s, and they can design whatever
- 37:40Speaker 2: you're dreaming.
- 37:40Speaker 3: Of in your backyard.
- 37:42Speaker 2: But, look, if you bought a home that has a
- 37:44Speaker 2: boring existing pool or if you just built one back
- 37:47Speaker 2: in the 90s and you want to update it, you
- 37:49Speaker 2: want some bells and whistles, you want a Beyonce, that thing,
- 37:52Speaker 2: they can do that as well.
- 37:53Speaker 3: They can add to your.
- 37:54Speaker 2: Existing pool and make it look like a brand-new custom pool.
- 37:57Speaker 3: Go to RussellPools.com today. That's right.
- 37:59Speaker 4: If you are ready for cannonball season to start at
- 38:01Speaker 4: your house, I'll call Russell Pools.
- 38:02Speaker 3: What about a jackknife? You can do a jackknife, too,
- 38:04Speaker 3: or a dive, whatever it is. Pencil? Or it can
- 38:06Speaker 3: just be a little dippy pool. Pencil? You can pencil.
- 38:09Speaker 4: It's got to be a deep pool. It's got to
- 38:10Speaker 4: be a deep pool, but you can pencil if you want.
- 38:12Speaker 4: Whatever it is, they got you covered. Chris Anderson and
- 38:15Speaker 4: his team, they are the best in Louisiana when it
- 38:17Speaker 4: comes to making that custom pool.
- 38:19Speaker 3: So give them a call today. If you've got a
- 38:20Speaker 3: dream in mind, Russell Pools, russellpools.com.
- 38:38Speaker 2: I'm hearing what you.
- 38:39Speaker 3: Say, but I just can't make it sound.
- 38:46Speaker 2: You tell me that you need me, then you go
- 38:49Speaker 2: and cut me down.
- 38:52Speaker 1: But wait, you tell me that you're sorry. 2007 champs,
- 38:58Speaker 1: purple and gold to the core. This is Off the
- 39:01Speaker 1: Bench with Hester and Flynn, Baton Rouge's go-to for all
- 39:05Speaker 1: things Louisiana sports.
- 39:10Speaker 2: I said it's too late to apologize. It's too late.
- 39:23Speaker 3: All right, welcome back in OTB.
- 39:26Speaker 2: Inside the chat here, Yodak says, Jake, you were being
- 39:30Speaker 2: hard on Flynn. You keep calling him an idiot and dumb.
- 39:32Speaker 2: That's not nice. Well, technically, I called him an idiot,
- 39:36Speaker 2: and he called me dumb.
- 39:38Speaker 3: So. Yes, true. I did. I did call you dumb.
- 39:42Speaker 3: But I said it a lot sweeter.
- 39:44Speaker 2: Yeah. So technically, we're throwing shade at each other.
- 39:47Speaker 3: You know what I mean?
- 39:49Speaker 2: Is that the one you thought?
- 39:51Speaker 3: That's the one I thought. Okay. All right. Well, you
- 39:53Speaker 3: got to keep this volume thing up, bud. I guess
- 39:55Speaker 3: there's no point to have it down.
- 39:56Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 39:57Speaker 2: Because if we want to, like, be very excited and
- 39:59Speaker 2: be like, that was a good play. Yeah.
- 40:03Speaker 3: Yeah. Or if, like, we need some rock music. No. No.
- 40:06Speaker 3: Top left.
- 40:11Speaker 2: Or if we just wild card it. Ooh, spooky season.
- 40:15Speaker 3: What's bottom left? What's purple?
- 40:21Speaker 2: Yeah. Hell yeah, brother.
- 40:22Speaker 3: Yeah. I didn't know that one existed. That's new. All right.
- 40:27Speaker 2: Bottom right, because we haven't got to.
- 40:32Speaker 3: That feels very AMR. Yeah, that was too AMR. I
- 40:36Speaker 3: don't like that one. This one? That's OTV. All right.
- 40:40Speaker 3: All right.
- 40:42Speaker 2: Like Alondra said in the chat, clearly they're both idiots.
- 40:46Speaker 3: We love you, Landry. Hey, great bump music, by the way.
- 40:48Speaker 3: Got me excited. Thank you. I appreciate that. She's not wrong.
- 40:52Speaker 3: She's definitely not wrong. We're good.
- 40:55Speaker 2: That's how we talk to each other. Terms of endearment
- 40:57Speaker 2: between the two of us. We've been doing it for
- 40:59Speaker 2: two decades.
- 41:00Speaker 3: Two decades plus.
- 41:01Speaker 4: I tell my kids, you know, like if the coach
- 41:03Speaker 4: stops yelling at you, that.
- 41:04Speaker 3: Means you're in trouble. That means you're in some trouble.
- 41:06Speaker 3: It's a bad situation. Also, inside the chat, Mr.
- 41:09Speaker 2: Big said, Nick Saban, sports psychologist, said calling people dumb
- 41:12Speaker 2: is personal and a no-no.
- 41:14Speaker 3: The wizard. The wizard. The old wizard. The old wizard. Yeah.
- 41:19Speaker 3: Just like the stereotypical psychiatrist. I saw.
- 41:23Speaker 2: So the Coach Saban documentary came out, and like the
- 41:26Speaker 2: first thing I saw was the wizard. And I'm like,
- 41:29Speaker 2: I haven't thought about the wizard in so long. Right, right.
- 41:33Speaker 2: But when you're young and you play for Nick Saban,
- 41:36Speaker 2: you're going to see the wizard every week. Yeah.
- 41:38Speaker 3: You're going to see the wizard a lot.
- 41:40Speaker 4: It was so funny because like if you– drew up
- 41:44Speaker 4: the stereotype of what that position is, who that person is, right?
- 41:49Speaker 3: That is what you would draw up.
- 41:52Speaker 4: That guy, skinny, tall, long face, this pointy beard, like
- 41:57Speaker 4: the stereotypical psychiatrist, psychologist.
- 42:03Speaker 3: I don't even know the difference. I don't know. It's
- 42:05Speaker 3: just like it was mandatory.
- 42:06Speaker 2: You had to go see the wizard.
- 42:07Speaker 3: Yeah, you just had to go see the wizard.
- 42:08Speaker 4: And, you know, I think there's a lot of good
- 42:10Speaker 4: from sports psychiatrists.
- 42:13Speaker 3: There's a lot of good that comes from that.
- 42:15Speaker 4: You have to learn how to deal with emotions, especially
- 42:18Speaker 4: in this world with a lot of people dealing with
- 42:20Speaker 4: mental health issues. There is a lot that goes into that,
- 42:24Speaker 4: and there's a lot of.
- 42:24Speaker 3: Help that you can get.
- 42:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 42:27Speaker 4: I feel like all the good teams that I was
- 42:29Speaker 4: on or most of the teams I was on had
- 42:31Speaker 4: at least access to a sports psychiatrist. Now Saban was,
- 42:35Speaker 4: I mean, it had to have been like on the
- 42:37Speaker 4: cutting edge of that stuff.
- 42:38Speaker 3: Yeah, I agree.
- 42:38Speaker 4: And I don't even think it was just like at
- 42:41Speaker 4: the time mental wellness and mental health wasn't like a
- 42:44Speaker 4: common term.
- 42:45Speaker 3: No.
- 42:46Speaker 4: But I think it was just about how to deal
- 42:48Speaker 4: with to be a better athlete, right? and how to
- 42:50Speaker 4: deal with the ups and downs, how to deal with
- 42:53Speaker 4: getting yelled at by Coach.
- 42:54Speaker 3: Saban and his staff, right? No doubt. There was a
- 42:56Speaker 3: lot to that.
- 42:57Speaker 2: Because you've probably never been talked to like that before
- 43:00Speaker 2: in your life.
- 43:01Speaker 3: No. Like, I was prepared.
- 43:02Speaker 4: Like, my high school coach and coaching staff, they yelled,
- 43:05Speaker 4: and we would get MF'd and stuff a little bit
- 43:08Speaker 4: here and there, and cussed at, like, yelled that in
- 43:10Speaker 4: high school so i was i feel like i was
- 43:12Speaker 4: as ready as.
- 43:13Speaker 2: Anybody as anybody was going to be yeah um but
- 43:15Speaker 2: i didn't because i went to i mean i went
- 43:17Speaker 2: to evangel christian right and so we didn't get talked
- 43:20Speaker 2: to like that now thankfully thankfully i had joey hester
- 43:23Speaker 2: yeah you know raising me we were training kind of
- 43:25Speaker 2: callous yeah.
- 43:26Speaker 4: Callous did that a little bit yes but nobody could
- 43:29Speaker 4: have enough calluses on them to get into going to
- 43:31Speaker 4: that stuff so it's true that the availability and it
- 43:34Speaker 4: is and it is um You know, it's a great
- 43:37Speaker 4: thing to have a sports psychiatrist around. So I didn't
- 43:39Speaker 4: think we'd be talking about the wizard right now. Well,
- 43:41Speaker 4: it was in the chat.
- 43:42Speaker 2: Shout out to Mr.
- 43:43Speaker 3: Big.
- 43:43Speaker 4: I really don't even remember a lot of the specific
- 43:45Speaker 4: conversations I had with him. I can't remember if, you know,
- 43:49Speaker 4: at the time it helped or didn't help or whatever
- 43:51Speaker 4: it was. But, you know, an accumulation of a lot
- 43:55Speaker 4: of different things.
- 43:56Speaker 3: It's called an amalgamation.
- 43:57Speaker 4: Even if something helped, like things that you do only
- 44:00Speaker 4: help a little bit, a little bit, a little bit,
- 44:03Speaker 4: even if you don't even notice them. Take a multivitamin pack.
- 44:06Speaker 4: Maybe it helps a little bit. You add a lot
- 44:08Speaker 4: of little bits up, and it equals a big thing.
- 44:10Speaker 2: I can tell for me, like, you know, first time
- 44:12Speaker 2: being away from home, and you talk through that, and
- 44:15Speaker 2: you're like, okay, well, how does that make you feel?
- 44:16Speaker 3: Like, what do you think you need? Blah, blah, blah.
- 44:18Speaker 3: You know, whatever that situation was.
- 44:20Speaker 2: And I remember for me, like, he's like, hey, go
- 44:22Speaker 2: find somebody that you have something in that's not your teammate.
- 44:25Speaker 3: And it's like, all right, well, what'd I do? I
- 44:26Speaker 3: went and talked baseball with Jack Marucci. Yeah. Every day.
- 44:29Speaker 3: Got to have some sort of outlet, right? Every day, Jack.
- 44:31Speaker 2: Marucci and I would sit in there, and we'd talk
- 44:33Speaker 2: about baseball. And that was my outlet. That was good
- 44:36Speaker 2: for me. That made me feel like I had a
- 44:38Speaker 2: father figure. I was at home just shooting the bull,
- 44:40Speaker 2: talking a little sports. And me and Jack, it felt
- 44:43Speaker 2: like an hour. And Joe Lawrence, who was a teammate,
- 44:46Speaker 2: but Joe was much older than us because he's a
- 44:48Speaker 2: professional baseball player. Joe was a big brother to me.
- 44:52Speaker 2: I had Joe Lawrence to talk baseball with. I had
- 44:54Speaker 2: this father figure in Jack Marucci. And so I had
- 44:56Speaker 2: an older brother and a father figure. And I would
- 44:59Speaker 2: just talk with him. So it helped me as I
- 45:02Speaker 2: moved away from home for the first time.
- 45:03Speaker 3: Yeah, it's always good to have a safe place.
- 45:05Speaker 4: And Jack Marucci, he might be considered a sports psychiatrist
- 45:08Speaker 4: for a long time.
- 45:09Speaker 3: Didn't even have the title.
- 45:10Speaker 2: He didn't have, like, really no doubt about it. The
- 45:12Speaker 2: things that– the value that Jack Marucci has given this
- 45:15Speaker 2: university is as much as anybody has given this university.
- 45:19Speaker 2: All right, we are going to step away. And when
- 45:21Speaker 2: we come back, let's get into a little NFL and
- 45:23Speaker 2: college football. What's the ticket?
- 45:25Speaker 3: Do you want to play a game?
- 45:27Speaker 2: Off the bench.
- 45:29Speaker 3: Although it is– It's Halloween, buddy.
