Latest / Twin Cities Territory / Twins bounce back for two important wins in Cleveland
Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Q the Undertaker Jiff because the Twins are back, baby,
- 0:05Speaker 1: back from the dead after we all but buried them
- 0:07Speaker 1: on Wednesday show Our Apologies. The Twins win two games
- 0:11Speaker 1: in Cleveland to finish with a split in a big
- 0:14Speaker 1: divisional series there, and it makes a three and four
- 0:17Speaker 1: road trip overall, which Dan on Friday Show we talked
- 0:21Speaker 1: about three and Fouri on this trip to start the
- 0:24Speaker 1: second half would be kind of the line between good
- 0:27Speaker 1: and bad. They finished right on the line, a split
- 0:29Speaker 1: in Cleveland, one out of three in Chicago, a four
- 0:31Speaker 1: game losing streak that was quite ugly in the middle,
- 0:34Speaker 1: but they're back on the right side of things as
- 0:36Speaker 1: they head home to Target Field now for home stand
- 0:38Speaker 1: against the A's and Royals. This is Twin City's Territory
- 0:41Speaker 1: You're Minnesota Twins podcast on the Foul Territory Network. I'm
- 0:44Speaker 1: Zach Pierce of the Athletic Joint, as always by Dan Hayes,
- 0:47Speaker 1: the Athletics, Minnesota Twins beat writer and Tyler Duffy, longtime
- 0:50Speaker 1: Major League former Minnesota Twin. Dan, you were there for
- 0:53Speaker 1: all four games. Like I said, we were talking time
- 0:57Speaker 1: to sell like this. It's oh really, you know, I
- 1:01Speaker 1: think we left the door up in a little bit
- 1:03Speaker 1: that it was just, you know, not to overreact to
- 1:05Speaker 1: four games, but the Twins certainly were shutting out the
- 1:07Speaker 1: noise and got too huge wins the last two days.
- 1:11Speaker 2: It was on Wednesday morning, sell sell, sell, get rid
- 1:15Speaker 2: of it all, like go everything must go. All those
- 1:19Speaker 2: commercials from the eighties like no zero down zero financing, basically,
- 1:26Speaker 2: like the Twins heard all that and they just did
- 1:30Speaker 2: what they've done all year, which is just you know,
- 1:34Speaker 2: not pay attention. I mean, they did a great job.
- 1:37Speaker 2: I think I told you guys on Wednesday morning, Tuesday night,
- 1:40Speaker 2: after the game, after their fourth straight loss, after thirty
- 1:43Speaker 2: four to nine over four games, just non competitive all
- 1:46Speaker 2: the way, and the clubhouse was pretty normal. It wasn't
- 1:50Speaker 2: like they weren't giddy or anything like that, but that
- 1:53Speaker 2: wasn't a normal loss to me. That was like the
- 1:55Speaker 2: clubhouse was like just in a good mood and ready
- 1:58Speaker 2: to go. And they showed Wednesday, you know, that was
- 2:03Speaker 2: a great offensive performance Wednesday to come out and you know,
- 2:06Speaker 2: come back and Bailey over was struggling with this delivery
- 2:08Speaker 2: and the offense picked him up and scored seven in
- 2:11Speaker 2: the middle innings and just took off and Trevor Larna
- 2:13Speaker 2: had a massive game, Brooks Lee with the big three
- 2:15Speaker 2: and Homer. But then Thursday was the most impressive six
- 2:20Speaker 2: Twins pitchers, led by TODJ. Bradley, who went seven and
- 2:24Speaker 2: looked great, but six Twins pitchers combined on a three
- 2:28Speaker 2: hitter for twelve innings. Cleveland went over seventeen with runners
- 2:32Speaker 2: in scoring position. The Twins. The Twins. Yeah, So the
- 2:36Speaker 2: Twins based walk off four separate times, nine, tenth, eleventh,
- 2:41Speaker 2: and twelve and they stood it down each time. This
- 2:46Speaker 2: first time they won the season series in Cleveland. So
- 2:49Speaker 2: they won four of six in Cleveland, I believe it is.
- 2:55Speaker 2: And for the first time since twenty twenty three, the
- 2:57Speaker 2: Twins didn't get walked off in Cleveland. And it was
- 3:01Speaker 2: so just out of left field as to who the
- 3:04Speaker 2: pitchers were. First it was Bradley, then it was Andrew Morris,
- 3:07Speaker 2: then it was Joanris Gomez, but you really didn't know
- 3:10Speaker 2: who they were going to turn to at that point.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Taylor Rogers came in and was great in the tenth inning,
- 3:16Speaker 2: intentionally walked Hose Ramirez with the with the inherited runner
- 3:20Speaker 2: and put two guys on just to start getting and
- 3:22Speaker 2: breezed through the middle of the order after that, and
- 3:24Speaker 2: then you had Tommy Nance come in and shut him
- 3:27Speaker 2: down one, two, three, And then you had Jack Anderson.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Jack Anderson who got claimed off waivers on July eleventh
- 3:35Speaker 2: from Boston, Jack Anderson, who debuted with the Twins on
- 3:38Speaker 2: Tuesday night. Jack Anderson became the twelfth pitcher to record
- 3:42Speaker 2: a save for the Twins. And by the way, he
- 3:45Speaker 2: had never had a major league say before. He had
- 3:47Speaker 2: just debuted earlier this year. He had fourteen saves in
- 3:50Speaker 2: the minor leagues. But this is a guy that is
- 3:54Speaker 2: basically pitching in his biggest, high leverage spot of his
- 3:56Speaker 2: entire life, and there was a delay for atential hit batsman.
- 4:02Speaker 2: You know, his pitch came close to hitting I think
- 4:04Speaker 2: it was Patrick Bailey late, and he ended up walking
- 4:08Speaker 2: Patrick Bailey. But there was a delay for about two
- 4:11Speaker 2: minutes in the middle of the inning and he had
- 4:13Speaker 2: to sit there and sit there and sit there and
- 4:15Speaker 2: wear it. He walked Bailey, but then got the next
- 4:19Speaker 2: guy weak fly ball left field, and the Twins that
- 4:23Speaker 2: was about as improbable a victory because the offense was
- 4:27Speaker 2: terrible most of the day Gavin Williams was just unbelievable.
- 4:31Speaker 2: He had an immaculate inning in the fourth inning, and
- 4:35Speaker 2: they came through right when they needed to. Two out
- 4:38Speaker 2: hits in the twelfth by Trevor Larnick, who just continues
- 4:41Speaker 2: to be amazing, and Luke Keishaw and the Twins win
- 4:44Speaker 2: three to one and escape with a very improbable victory
- 4:48Speaker 2: and the most unlikely three and four road trip that
- 4:52Speaker 2: I think we could have predicted to. You know, it's
- 4:55Speaker 2: one of those ones where you're down two oh and
- 4:58Speaker 2: you need a four game split and it just don't
- 5:00Speaker 2: expect it. It comes out of nowhere. I mean, if you're Cleveland,
- 5:02Speaker 2: how disappointed are you without winning that series? Yeah?
- 5:08Speaker 1: Yeah, complete flip the to Danny. You're mentioning the series
- 5:12Speaker 1: win in Cleveland. They won two out of three the
- 5:14Speaker 1: last time they were there, so for a seven total
- 5:17Speaker 1: for the season. But but that's the last time in Cleveland,
- 5:20Speaker 1: unless unless there's a playoff meeting between them, right, But
- 5:25Speaker 1: Dan wrote all Dan wrote all about the salvaging of
- 5:27Speaker 1: the split for the Twins. Big hit from Alan Road,
- 5:31Speaker 1: as we said it was, Wednesday's game was kind of
- 5:34Speaker 1: that formula. They used a lot earlier in the season
- 5:36Speaker 1: where they had a ton of runs early to help
- 5:40Speaker 1: kind of get out in front, and like that that
- 5:43Speaker 1: brooks Lee three run homer on Wednesday maybe one of
- 5:45Speaker 1: the biggest hits of the season, just because it gave
- 5:47Speaker 1: them that game was kind of back and forth at
- 5:49Speaker 1: the start, and then that gave them some breathing room
- 5:51Speaker 1: to work with. But you you had a great quote
- 5:57Speaker 1: Dan in that story from Taylor Rodgers. I'll put it
- 5:59Speaker 1: on the screen right now you're watching on YouTube, But
- 6:01Speaker 1: he said on Tuesday night, our world was crashing in apparently.
- 6:05Speaker 1: I love the apparently, which it feels like a direct
- 6:09Speaker 1: reference to those of us who put headlines on their
- 6:11Speaker 1: podcast like time to sell question and now we're all
- 6:15Speaker 1: feeling good again. This is the natural ebbs and flows
- 6:18Speaker 1: of a baseball season. As long as we collectively stay
- 6:20Speaker 1: even keel excuse me, that's where we're going to be.
- 6:24Speaker 1: There's a little more on that quote as well. You
- 6:26Speaker 1: can read that on the Athletic right now. But Tyler,
- 6:29Speaker 1: we were talking about this leading into the show before
- 6:31Speaker 1: we hit record, like how the narrative, the feeling inside
- 6:35Speaker 1: the clubhouse does not always match what we're all talking
- 6:37Speaker 1: about out here, right.
- 6:39Speaker 3: Yeah, it's sun man. They went to Chicago. They played
- 6:41Speaker 3: some tough games, you know, coming out of the break.
- 6:43Speaker 3: You get to Cleveland, you win that first game, you know,
- 6:47Speaker 3: kind of accept the tone, right, you know, we won
- 6:50Speaker 3: game one and then you lose the next two and
- 6:52Speaker 3: it's like, you know, in our eyes sitting at home,
- 6:57Speaker 3: it's so they're losing, you know, all right, the records here,
- 7:00Speaker 3: here's the standings, here's these guys saying these things. And
- 7:03Speaker 3: it's a lot of noise, as I referred to when
- 7:06Speaker 3: we were talking. But in the locker room, like you're
- 7:09Speaker 3: you're kind of protected. You're in a bubble. Like I've said,
- 7:12Speaker 3: I've said before, like some guys choose to read everything.
- 7:15Speaker 3: Some guys don't. Some guys want to and it doesn't
- 7:17Speaker 3: bother them.
- 7:18Speaker 2: You know.
- 7:18Speaker 4: Some guys are really invested in it, and.
- 7:20Speaker 3: It's you know, the the this clubhouse seems to have
- 7:24Speaker 3: a pretty good feel for their own world.
- 7:27Speaker 2: You know.
- 7:27Speaker 3: I've referred to Shelter multiple times of how good he
- 7:30Speaker 3: is at you know, checking the pressure on guys and
- 7:34Speaker 3: seeing how guys are doing. And I'm sure you know
- 7:36Speaker 3: Latroita for that matter, in Pete or checking with their
- 7:38Speaker 3: pictures and all the hitting staff. You know, it's it's
- 7:41Speaker 3: a it's an environment. You know, you're in the belly
- 7:43Speaker 3: of the beast. You know, you go inside those tunnels
- 7:45Speaker 3: and it's a different world. You know, it's MLB Networks
- 7:48Speaker 3: on TV sometimes or it's not at all. You know, guys,
- 7:52Speaker 3: especially in Cleveland, like guys, and they're playing Golden Tea
- 7:54Speaker 3: for two hours before the game, like you're, you're doing
- 7:56Speaker 3: things to to get yourself ready, to stay relaxed, whatever
- 7:59Speaker 3: it is. And clearly these guys aren't worried about it.
- 8:03Speaker 3: And a win the biggest thing, a win like yesterday,
- 8:06Speaker 3: that getting out of there, winning the season series in Cleveland,
- 8:10Speaker 3: like you, I think they took the advantage for the
- 8:12Speaker 3: wild card spot if that ends up being a tie,
- 8:15Speaker 3: let's say a huge win that that changes so much
- 8:18Speaker 3: in the drop of a hat, you know. And it
- 8:20Speaker 3: was a twelve inning game. It was a gauntlet of
- 8:23Speaker 3: a day game. You're trying to get home. You know,
- 8:25Speaker 3: all you want to do is get on that plane
- 8:26Speaker 3: to go. I'm sure Dan was ready to leave at
- 8:28Speaker 3: some point too, but couldn't. But it was just one
- 8:30Speaker 3: of those that's like you're just there and it's like,
- 8:33Speaker 3: you know what, boys, we're here. We've been here for
- 8:35Speaker 3: three and a half hours, Like we need to win
- 8:37Speaker 3: this game. And that game yesterday when they won that
- 8:40Speaker 3: any doubt that may have been creeping in that clubhouse
- 8:43Speaker 3: was eliminated immediately, and they got on that flight to Minneapolis,
- 8:47Speaker 3: got home through their apartments and things like that. They
- 8:49Speaker 3: were vibes were high on that plane, you know. And
- 8:52Speaker 3: today they're going to show up ready to do it again.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:56Speaker 1: That's six out of ten wins against Cleveland so far season.
- 9:00Speaker 1: They will play them again in September at Target Field,
- 9:02Speaker 1: three game sets. So if Twins win just one of
- 9:04Speaker 1: those three games, they would clinch the season series against
- 9:08Speaker 1: a team that through chasing in the Central it might
- 9:10Speaker 1: be a very crucial tiebreaker. But I like Taylor Rodgers
- 9:17Speaker 1: obviously so right about the ebbs and flows of the season.
- 9:20Speaker 1: I mean, even if the Twins had been swept in Cleveland,
- 9:23Speaker 1: it's not over. Like we thought the Red Sox were
- 9:26Speaker 1: done and buried, and then they just reel off fifteen
- 9:28Speaker 1: straight wins. So like they've got the A's Kansas City
- 9:32Speaker 1: twice in the next four series, Like there's a chance
- 9:34Speaker 1: to reel off some victories, and you know, it is
- 9:37Speaker 1: a long season, but the fact that they were able
- 9:39Speaker 1: to bounce back pretty impressive and also a good sign
- 9:43Speaker 1: that a big part of that four game losing streak,
- 9:46Speaker 1: and even even Wednesday they didn't get you know, a
- 9:49Speaker 1: sparkling outing from Bailey over but the starting pitching came
- 9:51Speaker 1: back around on Thursday. Toads, Bradley was fantastic, went toe
- 9:55Speaker 1: to toe with Gavin Williams, just made the one mistake
- 9:58Speaker 1: to Patrick Bailey. But seven innings, five struck hit one
- 10:01Speaker 1: hundred a couple of times that I saw anyway, Now
- 10:04Speaker 1: he looked like he was he was back in his
- 10:06Speaker 1: top form.
- 10:08Speaker 2: He was not nibbling, he was going at guys. You know,
- 10:12Speaker 2: Like afterwards, Ryan Jeffers said he felt like it was
- 10:15Speaker 2: like ten strikeouts. It was only five. He's like, but
- 10:17Speaker 2: for Cleveland, that's a ton. But this, like, look, I
- 10:21Speaker 2: don't know if we can emphasize enough that this is
- 10:23Speaker 2: the Twins' house of horrors. You know, it's funny Taylor's
- 10:27Speaker 2: talking about even Keel and we're not over the moon
- 10:30Speaker 2: in that quote, even though this was a big win,
- 10:32Speaker 2: and it's like, Okay, Taylor, I can appreciate that, but
- 10:35Speaker 2: you weren't here for most of twenty twenty one to
- 10:38Speaker 2: twenty twenty four. You missed that ten walk offs in
- 10:44Speaker 2: ten walk offs in those five seasons, and twenty three
- 10:47Speaker 2: is the only one where they didn't. Twenty one is
- 10:49Speaker 2: the last time the Twins won the series in Cleveland
- 10:52Speaker 2: that year. I think they won like six out of
- 10:55Speaker 2: ten in that But there have been a walk up
- 11:00Speaker 2: and what I said in the story was that doesn't
- 11:02Speaker 2: count games where Cleveland went ahead into eighth and then
- 11:06Speaker 2: handed the ball to Class And there have been many,
- 11:08Speaker 2: many of those. I mean, this has been their you know,
- 11:12Speaker 2: the bane of their existence. And it was fun talking
- 11:14Speaker 2: to Trevor Larnick about it because he said, I've had
- 11:18Speaker 2: a lot of bad experiences here, and I'm sitting there
- 11:21Speaker 2: going in my head, yeah, Trevor, me too. I've been
- 11:24Speaker 2: here for most of these and He's like, it was
- 11:27Speaker 2: nice not to get walked off, and I'm sitting there going,
- 11:30Speaker 2: it was nice not to have to rewrite again for
- 11:32Speaker 2: the thirtieth time in five years.
- 11:35Speaker 1: That's what we're all really worried about.
- 11:36Speaker 2: Dan Is. Yeah, it's funny when when work no, no, no,
- 11:42Speaker 2: it is funny that their experience mine has mirrored them
- 11:46Speaker 2: because I'm covering this team and so when they have
- 11:50Speaker 2: the same exact game play out over and over and
- 11:53Speaker 2: over in Cleveland. I mean in twenty twenty two, Duffy,
- 11:57Speaker 2: you remember that series, It was the Wes Johnson Leave series.
- 12:01Speaker 2: You guys got walked off two or three times in
- 12:04Speaker 2: that series. Tyler Thornberg was pitching on you guys split
- 12:09Speaker 2: to end a four game series and he threw Tyler
- 12:11Speaker 2: thorn gave it a three run bomb. Yeah, I think
- 12:14Speaker 2: it was I think it was Jimenez. I think it
- 12:17Speaker 2: was Jimenez to hit the three run bomb to walk off,
- 12:19Speaker 2: walk it off. But there are so many moments like
- 12:22Speaker 2: that in all the years. And Taj Bradley stepped up
- 12:26Speaker 2: and delivered, and yeah, he was gonna he walked off
- 12:29Speaker 2: trailing one nothing. He was so good. Gavin Williams was
- 12:33Speaker 2: immaculate for whatever reason. Gavin Williams is great against the Twins.
- 12:37Speaker 2: And and you're going into eight then and going, oh man,
- 12:40Speaker 2: just because he's good.
- 12:43Speaker 4: He's pretty good against the field.
- 12:45Speaker 2: He's he's been inconsistent and and uh so like he
- 12:50Speaker 2: basically like you know, he he's been really good against
- 12:54Speaker 2: the Twins. But he has a three sixty e r
- 12:56Speaker 2: A in July and somehow that's with facing the Twins
- 12:59Speaker 2: and kill them twice. So you know that there's been
- 13:02Speaker 2: some there's been some rough ounds in there, but you know,
- 13:06Speaker 2: like you're going into the eighth inning and you know
- 13:08Speaker 2: that Gaddis and cade Smith are coming and it's like, oh,
- 13:11Speaker 2: Prince repeat one nothing. You think it's just gonna be
- 13:14Speaker 2: a one nothing moss and that probably is better than
- 13:17Speaker 2: losing on a walk off yet again. But then Alan
- 13:20Speaker 2: Roaden came through with just the biggest pinch hit and
- 13:23Speaker 2: off Cad Smith just ripped a fastball in the middle.
- 13:26Speaker 2: And you know he's not hitting a ton overall, but uh,
- 13:31Speaker 2: he's hitting like two fourteen. But he's had some big
- 13:34Speaker 2: moments for them. He got on based five times on
- 13:37Speaker 2: Wednesday night. Three were by error, even though one or
- 13:41Speaker 2: two of those might get changed to hits. You know,
- 13:44Speaker 2: he like he's he's had some moments like but like
- 13:47Speaker 2: just for them to escape Cleveland their personal house of horrors,
- 13:50Speaker 2: and I've seen it before. The Padre's house of horrors
- 13:53Speaker 2: was Corusfield. You know, you just go someplace and you
- 13:57Speaker 2: know it's gonna be bad for you base yeah, or
- 14:02Speaker 2: Yankee Stadium is sometimes after the Twins. Obviously that's unquestionably
- 14:06Speaker 2: that too, But this is their local one in Cleveland,
- 14:09Speaker 2: and Cleveland just owns them. They have that guardian magic
- 14:12Speaker 2: that just keeps happening, and you're like, you're stunned when
- 14:15Speaker 2: it doesn't.
- 14:16Speaker 1: We'll take a break, we'll come back, we'll talk a
- 14:18Speaker 1: little more about the winds, we'll talk about what the
- 14:21Speaker 1: Twins should do. Now are we buyers again? And we'll
- 14:24Speaker 1: look ahead to the weekend when we come back.
- 14:31Speaker 5: If you're watching us, you already know we're wearing mack
- 14:33Speaker 5: Weldon right now as we talk about a great brand
- 14:36Speaker 5: that makes things so comfortable and easy to wear. But
- 14:39Speaker 5: if you're listening to the show, let me tell you
- 14:41Speaker 5: a little bit more about mac Weldon with my friend
- 14:44Speaker 5: Aeric Kratz.
- 14:45Speaker 6: Yeah, it's comfortable, it's light. It's summertime right now. For me,
- 14:50Speaker 6: though they cater to what I need tall clothes. Normally,
- 14:54Speaker 6: when I buy tall clothes, it's like something that's cumbersome
- 14:58Speaker 6: and boxy. It's still it fits incredibly well, super light,
- 15:03Speaker 6: perfect for the summertime. They got me.
- 15:05Speaker 5: All covered comfortable performance material can be yours. Mac Weldon
- 15:12Speaker 5: is the spot. Don't sweat the heat this summer. Feel

- 15:25Speaker 5: d o N dot com code f o U L.
- 15:30Speaker 1: All right, we're back. Thanks everybody for listening. If you
- 15:34Speaker 1: would like to follow along, we'd love to have you subscribe.
- 15:36Speaker 1: There's a QR code on the screen right now if
- 15:38Speaker 1: you're watching on YouTube, but you can follow or subscribe
- 15:41Speaker 1: on wherever you look at your podcasts, Apple, Spotify, YouTube,
- 15:44Speaker 1: your choice. We'd love to have you along and get
- 15:46Speaker 1: notified when there's new episodes and follow along. Jose Ramiers
- 15:52Speaker 1: came back. Hamante Bone, by the way, look great, Kevin
- 16:00Speaker 1: Williams was unhittable, and the Twins still won both games.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Sometimes it doesn't make a lot of sense, but here
- 16:06Speaker 1: they are fifty one and fifty three, still hanging out
- 16:10Speaker 1: in the American League Central, four and a half back
- 16:12Speaker 1: now and three back of Cleveland in second place, and
- 16:16Speaker 1: still outside the Wildcard picture as well. The Red Sox
- 16:19Speaker 1: have lost finally, but they also won on the same
- 16:23Speaker 1: day they lost because it was a double header. But
- 16:26Speaker 1: Twins two and a half back there in the Wildcard
- 16:29Speaker 1: some winnable games coming up. We'll get to that in
- 16:30Speaker 1: a second. The question that will continue to hang over
- 16:33Speaker 1: this team for another week plus though, is what to
- 16:36Speaker 1: do at the trade deadline. We were pretty convinced it
- 16:40Speaker 1: was time to sell on Wednesday, and now we've updated
- 16:44Speaker 1: it to are we back around the other way? And
- 16:46Speaker 1: are they buyers? And Dan, what's your what do you
- 16:49Speaker 1: do with this team right now?
- 16:52Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a great question, your question.
- 16:56Speaker 2: I think the thing I said all along was this
- 17:01Speaker 2: will really be determined by what happens in the next
- 17:04Speaker 2: six games. Like it's really they're going to figure out
- 17:07Speaker 2: what they're going to do going like into that Seattle trip.
- 17:10Speaker 2: That's when things pick up. Really is they get to
- 17:12Speaker 2: Seattle next Friday morning, the deadlines on Monday. That's when
- 17:17Speaker 2: everything's going to occur Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Because
- 17:21Speaker 2: that's what happened last year. It always happens about three
- 17:23Speaker 2: to four days before the deadline, when when the Twins
- 17:27Speaker 2: were going through it last year. You know, they came
- 17:29Speaker 2: out of the break with the just absolute doud of
- 17:32Speaker 2: a trip. Chris Pattock gave up four runs to the
- 17:35Speaker 2: first four batters in Colorado to start the second half,
- 17:39Speaker 2: and they lost two of three in Denver. Then they
- 17:43Speaker 2: lost two of three in LA But they had a
- 17:45Speaker 2: shot to win the finale and win two of three
- 17:48Speaker 2: and Griffin Jacks had a meltdown and Harrison Bader couldn't
- 17:53Speaker 2: come up with Will Smith line drive to left field
- 17:57Speaker 2: and they got walked off by the Dodgers. They could
- 17:59Speaker 2: have put that trip and gone three and three and
- 18:02Speaker 2: come home and played well. And the thing was that
- 18:06Speaker 2: they came home and they played terrible. They've lost the
- 18:09Speaker 2: series to the Nationals. And that was like the last gasp,
- 18:13Speaker 2: right was those were the three days before the week
- 18:17Speaker 2: leading up to the deadline, and that's when the plug
- 18:19Speaker 2: was pulled. So really everything will be determined based off
- 18:24Speaker 2: of these six games against the Athletics and then Kansas City.
- 18:28Speaker 2: In Kansas City, it's good timing. Bobby Witt is on
- 18:31Speaker 2: the aisle with a back injury. It's been something that's
- 18:33Speaker 2: bugging him for a while. Finally he just had to
- 18:37Speaker 2: go and that happened this week, so he will not
- 18:39Speaker 2: participate in that series. The Twins need to win. Yeah,
- 18:43Speaker 2: they're very upset about that that they won't be playing
- 18:46Speaker 2: Bobby Witt. But you gotta win four of six. Maybe
- 18:51Speaker 2: you should win five of six. You need to put
- 18:54Speaker 2: yourself in position because right now Cleveland goes to Tampa
- 18:57Speaker 2: Bay and you got to catch up to them, and
- 19:00Speaker 2: this is your shot with the A's first. And I mean,
- 19:02Speaker 2: these are two terrible teams come to town. The one
- 19:05Speaker 2: thing I like about this Twins team is they're not
- 19:07Speaker 2: the type of team that takes anybody for granted. You know,
- 19:09Speaker 2: this is not a group that like, they don't sit
- 19:12Speaker 2: back and go, we should just beat this team. Because
- 19:14Speaker 2: they're underdogs, they know it themselves. They can't just rely
- 19:17Speaker 2: on that. So this is the kind of series where
- 19:19Speaker 2: you need to see the offense slug slug slug and
- 19:24Speaker 2: keep going. I mean, look, I think they should take
- 19:28Speaker 2: advantage of these series, and they will, So I'm leaning
- 19:31Speaker 2: towards buying again, but I think it's going to be
- 19:33Speaker 2: a mid buy and sell. I think they're gonna try
- 19:35Speaker 2: and trade off the major league roster and stuff. I
- 19:37Speaker 2: want to know what you think about that in a second.
- 19:39Speaker 2: But if you, I don't know, that would be Trevor Larnick.
- 19:42Speaker 2: That would be very disappointing, just because the clutch moments
- 19:47Speaker 2: he continues to stack up. But could I see a
- 19:49Speaker 2: world where they trade Trevor Larnock for pitching help and
- 19:52Speaker 2: then bring up Walker Jenkins, Yeah, I could. Or maybe
- 19:55Speaker 2: maybe they figure out a way to maybe Kylen Culpepper's
- 19:59Speaker 2: the next guy. But I don't see both rookies coming
- 20:01Speaker 2: up at once. But I think it's one or the
- 20:04Speaker 2: other to like, I just think you nurse one or
- 20:07Speaker 2: the other the rest of the way. But it wouldn't
- 20:09Speaker 2: shock me if Trevor Larnak had enough value that they
- 20:11Speaker 2: went out and traded him and get, you know, go
- 20:15Speaker 2: with Jenkins and get some pitching help. So I don't know,
- 20:18Speaker 2: it's I'm leaning towards By, but it's really not gonna
- 20:22Speaker 2: be decided for another week. In fact, we have three
- 20:24Speaker 2: more shows before they're really gonna make their decision.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Tyler was your gut ad right now?
- 20:31Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 20:32Speaker 3: I mean, I've said it before. I think the guys
- 20:35Speaker 3: we have in house are obviously good enough to be
- 20:39Speaker 3: where we are, like they've gotten us to this point,
- 20:42Speaker 3: you know, from the ashes of the beginning of spring
- 20:44Speaker 3: when they were going to lose one hundred and sixty
- 20:46Speaker 3: two games. You know, I think the prospects that are
- 20:51Speaker 3: in Triple A, like the saying goes or you know
- 20:56Speaker 3: Snell has said up before Koln guy's slap sticks. It's
- 21:00Speaker 3: prospects are prospects until they're not. And once you call
- 21:04Speaker 3: them up and they say they don't pan out, well
- 21:06Speaker 3: they're they're gone, you know. And it seems like there's
- 21:09Speaker 3: a few guys there that are they're not sure on
- 21:11Speaker 3: who's gonna come up yet or not. You know, Larnick
- 21:14Speaker 3: has been kind of a table setter at times to
- 21:17Speaker 3: Dan's point, which would be it'd be so weird for
- 21:19Speaker 3: me to see him in another uniform, you know, But
- 21:22Speaker 3: he's a West Coast guy. You know, he maybe wants
- 21:24Speaker 3: to go there, maybe he's okay with it, like who
- 21:26Speaker 3: knows what conversations have been had or not for that matter.
- 21:30Speaker 3: It's it's one it's just hard for me to imagine
- 21:33Speaker 3: them not at least trying. I won't say they'll be buyers,
- 21:38Speaker 3: but they can't give up on this season. At this point,
- 21:42Speaker 3: you are within one seat. You're gonna sweep of the
- 21:45Speaker 3: White Sox, I guess, and you're even with him if
- 21:47Speaker 3: I'm not mistaken, three or four games.
- 21:50Speaker 4: So like you, you get hot.
- 21:51Speaker 3: We haven't even played the White Sox early this year,
- 21:54Speaker 3: so you've just got to beat them more than you
- 21:56Speaker 3: lose to them. And you take the lead at this point,
- 21:59Speaker 3: and so it's like you can't especially as a player.
- 22:02Speaker 3: You're in there, like all right, we're doing our job,
- 22:04Speaker 3: like we're we're here, we're in the mix. We're having
- 22:07Speaker 3: these conversations right here about what to do because we
- 22:09Speaker 3: are relevant, and I think the guys are confident. I
- 22:12Speaker 3: think the team is in a great spot, you know.
- 22:15Speaker 3: And I keep saying it. It's it's not going to
- 22:17Speaker 3: take a major move.
- 22:19Speaker 2: Now.
- 22:19Speaker 3: If a team calls you with a guy that you
- 22:21Speaker 3: weren't expecting to be handed and you make a move
- 22:24Speaker 3: for that, so be it. I think as a player,
- 22:28Speaker 3: you want your move, whatever it is, to make the
- 22:30Speaker 3: team better. You want to feel like you got better,
- 22:32Speaker 3: you know, even if that means giving up a major
- 22:34Speaker 3: league guy, whether it's a Larnic or like I've referred
- 22:37Speaker 3: to Jeffers or the one of the three catchers we have.
- 22:40Speaker 3: You know, move a catcher, a big league ready catcher
- 22:43Speaker 3: for a guy, your team still gets better. You're not
- 22:45Speaker 3: really you know, cutting the rug from under yourself. You know,
- 22:48Speaker 3: there's moves to be made without giving up too much
- 22:53Speaker 3: as as far as the team goes. You know, you
- 22:55Speaker 3: got to you want to stay competitive. You can't, you know,
- 22:58Speaker 3: like Joe Ryan's one. I if they give a Joe
- 23:00Speaker 3: Ryan for anybody, you might as well just call it
- 23:03Speaker 3: a year and see it spring training, regardless of who
- 23:05Speaker 3: you get.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Yeah, because literally, like it.
- 23:08Speaker 4: Doesn't matter who you get. You took your ace out
- 23:10Speaker 4: of the hole and threw him to another team.
- 23:12Speaker 3: And so it's just you can't if they make any
- 23:14Speaker 3: move like that, like, regardless of what is being said,
- 23:17Speaker 3: they're given up. But if you make a move for
- 23:19Speaker 3: a big league ready guy, maybe move a one of
- 23:22Speaker 3: your top tens, Like I don't know the whole list.
- 23:24Speaker 4: You know, Dan would know better than I.
- 23:26Speaker 3: And that's one Honestly, those cool packets, you know, I
- 23:29Speaker 3: don't know if this is inside intel kind of, but
- 23:31Speaker 3: like the little packets they put out for us inside
- 23:34Speaker 3: the clubhouse. Sometimes it's got all the media stuff in it,
- 23:37Speaker 3: and then it'll have like every minor league affiliate things
- 23:40Speaker 3: like that. So like this time of year, it's fun
- 23:42Speaker 3: to go peek through those and say, like, all right,
- 23:44Speaker 3: who's this kid hitting four fifty? You know, it's there's
- 23:47Speaker 3: always some that someone that pops up. And then the
- 23:50Speaker 3: best is it'll be a guy who's tearing the cover
- 23:52Speaker 3: off the ball and he's just like a non prospect.
- 23:54Speaker 3: It's like, yeah, it's not gonna be him, and you're like, well,
- 23:56Speaker 3: why can't it be him?
- 23:58Speaker 2: So it's it's a.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Did you see the number four?
- 24:01Speaker 2: Here?
- 24:01Speaker 4: Look at this number, Look at it. It's right here. No,
- 24:05Speaker 4: it's the one.
- 24:06Speaker 3: I will never be a GM because they know much
- 24:08Speaker 3: better than I had to run a baseball team. But yeah,
- 24:10Speaker 3: it's it's always a fun time of year, though, trade deadline,
- 24:13Speaker 3: because you wake up and something crazy happen.
- 24:16Speaker 2: You know what. It's crazy crazy that Cleveland just took
- 24:20Speaker 2: its third straight l.
- 24:22Speaker 1: Yes, breaking news. I was just going to say, the
- 24:25Speaker 1: NBA can make the schedule now, Oh, Lebron to the Sixers. Sorry,
- 24:30Speaker 1: Timberwolves fans.
- 24:32Speaker 4: It officially official.
- 24:33Speaker 1: It's official. He's announced it.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Eight million, two years million total love it love love
- 24:41Speaker 2: see this dude who's probably in the top twenty five
- 24:43Speaker 2: players still in the NBA. It's probably like right outside
- 24:46Speaker 2: that top two tiers, but he's still a difference maker,
- 24:49Speaker 2: and he's gonna make four million a year to join
- 24:51Speaker 2: a team and win a championship. But two years and
- 24:53Speaker 2: eight million, so he's playing for two more years. That's
- 24:56Speaker 2: two years of sixers on Christmas.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Day and every other national of the year coming. It's
- 25:06Speaker 1: very we'll get back to baseball here now. It's very
- 25:10Speaker 1: easy to look at what's right in front of you
- 25:11Speaker 1: and think this is the biggest deal. We The Chicago
- 25:14Speaker 1: Cleveland swing to start the second half felt like a
- 25:17Speaker 1: telltale stretch, but actually it might be this one because
- 25:19Speaker 1: they are playing two very bad teams right before the
- 25:22Speaker 1: trade deadline, Like you should do well, and if you do,
- 25:27Speaker 1: by the time the trade deadline comes around, this team
- 25:29Speaker 1: could conceivably be back in a wild card spot. Seattle
- 25:33Speaker 1: is ahead of them in the standings and they play
- 25:34Speaker 1: them right before the deadline, so that's a big series too.
- 25:37Speaker 1: But if they don't play well against bad teams, which
- 25:40Speaker 1: they haven't this year. I think it was seventeen and
- 25:44Speaker 1: nineteen in the first half against teams that finished the
- 25:47Speaker 1: first half five games under five hundred or worse, which
- 25:50Speaker 1: the A's and Royals both are. So Yeah, to Dan's point,
- 25:55Speaker 1: obviously four out of six, for sure you would hope for,
- 25:58Speaker 1: and really five would be indicative of a team trying
- 26:02Speaker 1: to try to make a push, just win.
- 26:05Speaker 2: They Kansas City series in June. Remember Kansas City came
- 26:09Speaker 2: in and took three of four in early June. You
- 26:12Speaker 2: got to remember that and and puint those box scores
- 26:15Speaker 2: up every day and remind guys they had that one.
- 26:18Speaker 2: They were gonna win the series or they were gonna
- 26:20Speaker 2: win this finale and split the series. And they took
- 26:23Speaker 2: the lead and uh Rcia hit the home run in
- 26:26Speaker 2: the bottom of the eighth, and then the bullpen came
- 26:29Speaker 2: in and blew it in the bottom of the ninth
- 26:30Speaker 2: and they are in the top of the ninth and
- 26:32Speaker 2: they lost three. Two gotta win. But that you know what,
- 26:35Speaker 2: that's I do think that that Cleveland Kansas or Cleveland
- 26:38Speaker 2: Chicago was huge because those are two really good teams
- 26:42Speaker 2: and it's a meat grinder to start the second half
- 26:44Speaker 2: when guys are just getting back from relaxing, guys are
- 26:47Speaker 2: just trying to get fired up again after a four
- 26:49Speaker 2: day break to go three and four. There was sort
- 26:51Speaker 2: of like a placeholder, like get through this and don't
- 26:54Speaker 2: just don't let it be a disaster. And on Tuesday
- 26:57Speaker 2: it was looking like it was gonna be an absolute
- 26:59Speaker 2: disaster at one and four, and to get there and
- 27:02Speaker 2: get three and four and just get through that portion
- 27:06Speaker 2: of that difficult portion of the schedule to this meaty, juicy
- 27:09Speaker 2: part of the schedule. These teams are playing terrible and
- 27:14Speaker 2: but you just can't let down. I mean, look, Hawk
- 27:16Speaker 2: Harrelson said, every team wins sixty, every team loses sixty,
- 27:19Speaker 2: and it's what you do with the games in between
- 27:21Speaker 2: that determines everything. So these teams can win games. They
- 27:26Speaker 2: are capable. They have major league talent. The Athletics have
- 27:30Speaker 2: nice hitters, Yeah they are they are.
- 27:34Speaker 1: Twins also lost two of three in Kansas City at
- 27:37Speaker 1: the very beginning of the season.
- 27:38Speaker 4: So no, no, Bobby is going to be tough for
- 27:41Speaker 4: those guys.
- 27:42Speaker 1: That is helpful.
- 27:44Speaker 4: Is a special talent the Twins.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Yes, relative good luck missing important players on the other team.
- 27:52Speaker 3: We need to go back in the tail to tape.
- 27:55Speaker 3: Look at all the all stars that have missed the
- 27:57Speaker 3: series against.
- 27:59Speaker 2: Pictures Spirit for that time that they won this series
- 28:03Speaker 2: at Yankee Stadium. He was there. He was standing on
- 28:06Speaker 2: the top row. There you go. Uh, we'll take on
- 28:09Speaker 2: a real quick break.
- 28:09Speaker 1: Come back, talk a little more about what's ahead for

- 29:47Speaker 1: The Twins had some injury news and notes over the
- 29:51Speaker 1: week as well. Byron Buxton came back off the the IL.
- 29:55Speaker 1: I always have to pause and make sure I say
- 29:57Speaker 1: IL these days they list anymore, you cannot understandably so
- 30:04Speaker 1: and Connor Preli looks like he's close. Also Victor Karattini
- 30:07Speaker 1: followed ball off his knee, which I did that twice
- 30:11Speaker 1: in my life and was on consecutive pitches. Somehow, it
- 30:14Speaker 1: doesn't That does not feel good, Dan, what's the latest
- 30:16Speaker 1: on on some of these these injuries here?
- 30:20Speaker 2: Let's go with KROTENI. I think that's the one that's
- 30:22Speaker 2: really important, just because he fouled it off his knee cap.
- 30:26Speaker 2: He looked like he had shot himself. It looked like
- 30:29Speaker 2: incredible pain. He could hear it.
- 30:31Speaker 1: He could hear him hollering.
- 30:33Speaker 2: Yeah it was it was million mics they do. And
- 30:39Speaker 2: so he walked off under like with the help of
- 30:41Speaker 2: the trainers. He was better that night. Did an X ray,
- 30:44Speaker 2: you know, X ray was negative, which always a reminder.
- 30:47Speaker 2: X ray being negative is good. He uh, he was
- 30:52Speaker 2: better in the clubhouse, but they weren't going to catch
- 30:54Speaker 2: him on Thursday. I don't think they're gonna catch him
- 30:57Speaker 2: on Friday. Might see him in the field. Almost got
- 30:59Speaker 2: him in the game late on Thursday in that twelfth inning.
- 31:03Speaker 2: He was like emergency and I think he was okay
- 31:06Speaker 2: to go, but they're gonna You know, the reason why
- 31:09Speaker 2: that's actually like important is they need him to get
- 31:12Speaker 2: back there as soon as they can. Because Ryan Jeffers workload,
- 31:15Speaker 2: they are still monitoring that closely with his left hand
- 31:18Speaker 2: with after the hamate bone. He basically, by the way,
- 31:23Speaker 2: I love how we've adopted Hamante bone, and there are
- 31:25Speaker 2: people on social media who refer to it in the
- 31:28Speaker 2: dimensions too, but he basically they're not gonna play Jeffers
- 31:35Speaker 2: behind the plate every day. They they've got a monitory.
- 31:38Speaker 2: They said, look that he's handling it well, and we've
- 31:42Speaker 2: seen it. His power has been back. He's got two homers,
- 31:44Speaker 2: he's got doubles since he's been back. He's hitting well,
- 31:46Speaker 2: but the workload's still like it's taken nerves time to
- 31:51Speaker 2: readjust and like there's just no longer a bone there
- 31:54Speaker 2: and so the whole area and you see Ryan all
- 31:57Speaker 2: the time with an ice pack, a huge ice pack
- 31:59Speaker 2: on that rich after games. It's something that he won't
- 32:02Speaker 2: catch every day, like like Shelton said, he won't be
- 32:05Speaker 2: ready probably for five months after when they originally happened,
- 32:10Speaker 2: that was on May eighteenth, So we're talking about into
- 32:14Speaker 2: the offseason where he will be not at full strength.
- 32:16Speaker 2: So they're just gonna have to kind of monitor him well.
- 32:18Speaker 2: Jeffers is supposed to catch Friday night. He caught all
- 32:21Speaker 2: twelve names Thursday. It's gonna be the first time they
- 32:23Speaker 2: put him back to back, but they weren't not gonna
- 32:25Speaker 2: catch him on Saturday. So it's either gonna be Caroteni's
- 32:28Speaker 2: back and ready or they go to Alex Shackson. Which
- 32:32Speaker 2: it is good to have three catchers on the roster,
- 32:34Speaker 2: especially right now, you know, but the drop off is
- 32:38Speaker 2: definitely that, you know, KROTENI is the more experienced game caller,
- 32:42Speaker 2: and like that's even on the challenges. Kroten is the
- 32:46Speaker 2: better option on abs challenges, So you'd like to have
- 32:50Speaker 2: him back there. I think it's trending in the right direction.
- 32:53Speaker 2: Connor Prelip. He threw on Sunday. He pitched maybe it
- 32:58Speaker 2: was Saturday at Triple A. Three innings, three strikeouts. Looked good,
- 33:03Speaker 2: all reports were good. The Twins felt like it was
- 33:05Speaker 2: so good they wanted to actually see him. This is
- 33:07Speaker 2: so strange. They flew him to Cleveland to check out
- 33:10Speaker 2: his blister and have him throw his bullpen in front
- 33:13Speaker 2: of Pete McKee in Cleveland, even though the team is
- 33:15Speaker 2: returning home because they wanted to see so he came
- 33:18Speaker 2: in on Wednesday. He threw his bullpen Thursday morning in
- 33:22Speaker 2: front of Mackie. It sounded like he showed Nick Popparest,
- 33:27Speaker 2: the Twins head athletic trainer, the blister. I only asked
- 33:31Speaker 2: Connor and I didn't ask Shelton. But the assumption was
- 33:34Speaker 2: that if everything went well, that it was going to
- 33:36Speaker 2: be potentially prelip on Saturday, slotting into the rotation. And
- 33:41Speaker 2: after the game Connor said everything went good. So based
- 33:44Speaker 2: off of what the pitcher himself said, not a team official,
- 33:47Speaker 2: I think we'll see Connor prelip on Saturday. So you know,
- 33:52Speaker 2: like those two are critical. Cole Sands through a scoreless
- 33:56Speaker 2: inning Thursday at Saint Paul. That's the second time in
- 34:00Speaker 2: three days that he pitched. That's a huge hurdle for him.
- 34:02Speaker 2: He threw two innings over the weekend, struck out three
- 34:05Speaker 2: in that so his last four innings he's gone four scoreless.
- 34:08Speaker 2: I think he went five scoreless all in all in
- 34:10Speaker 2: this rehab. We could see him soon. That would be
- 34:13Speaker 2: a nice development for the bullpen, just to get another arm.
- 34:16Speaker 2: And you mentioned Bucks and Bucks had played in three
- 34:19Speaker 2: or four. The day off Wednesday was planned. That was
- 34:22Speaker 2: always going to be the case they weren't gonna play
- 34:23Speaker 2: him all four games. I think we'll see him Friday night.
- 34:26Speaker 2: He seemed to be in very good spirits come out
- 34:29Speaker 2: of it. Like you can tell he's not going you
- 34:31Speaker 2: can tell he's still tentative on that running, but he
- 34:35Speaker 2: is not like he's not going full out buck. But
- 34:38Speaker 2: at the same time, I didn't see anything that made
- 34:40Speaker 2: was concerning during that series that that you go, oh man,
- 34:44Speaker 2: that that doesn't look like he's healed. It's hard to tell.
- 34:48Speaker 2: He's you know, he's good at masking these things. Sometimes
- 34:50Speaker 2: I'm playing through stuff. Bucks a warrior, so but so far,
- 34:55Speaker 2: so good. He played all twelve innings on Thursday, and
- 34:59Speaker 2: you know, that's basically it on the injury front that
- 35:03Speaker 2: can think of. But it does worth watching.
- 35:08Speaker 1: It's another factor in both their hopes for the season
- 35:11Speaker 1: and just the trade deadline plans. Tyler that there's uh,
- 35:14Speaker 1: there's still some health to be gained from from some players,
- 35:17Speaker 1: hopefully coming back to full strength soon.
- 35:19Speaker 4: Yeah, plugging pre look back in.
- 35:22Speaker 3: Obviously, the workload has been the talk all year, but
- 35:26Speaker 3: this has kind of been a built in break, whether
- 35:28Speaker 3: it was, you know.
- 35:30Speaker 4: Good for the team or not.
- 35:31Speaker 3: He got a break out of it some time off,
- 35:34Speaker 3: you know, some shorter outings to kind of ramp back
- 35:37Speaker 3: up and all those things. So, uh, without taking too
- 35:40Speaker 3: big a hit while he's been gone, like he's about
- 35:43Speaker 3: to come back.
- 35:44Speaker 2: You know.
- 35:44Speaker 3: Cole Sands is a guy that's thrown the ninth if
- 35:46Speaker 3: I'm not mistaken in the past, and so like that's
- 35:49Speaker 3: an arm that's been in leverage.
- 35:51Speaker 4: He's got stuff.
- 35:53Speaker 3: You know, it's a new piece to to add to
- 35:55Speaker 3: the deck, so to speak. And you know it does
- 35:58Speaker 3: create moves on the other end, so the roster's got
- 36:00Speaker 3: to change a little bit.
- 36:02Speaker 4: So you'd be interested to see what those are.
- 36:06Speaker 3: You know, sometimes those are conversations like in Triple A,
- 36:08Speaker 3: I've been there, you know, when it happens and it's
- 36:10Speaker 3: like trade deadline comes around and it's hey, you know,
- 36:13Speaker 3: keep these guys out of the game. You know, you
- 36:15Speaker 3: see tweets about it all the time. It's like so
- 36:18Speaker 3: and so's not in the lineup today and the whole
- 36:19Speaker 3: world's on fire kind of thing waiting for it, and
- 36:22Speaker 3: it's like, oh, it's just a day off, you know whatever,
- 36:24Speaker 3: But it's definitely good news to you know, especially he's
- 36:29Speaker 3: he's been so fun to watch kind of figure it
- 36:32Speaker 3: out on the fly, and they've had to be so
- 36:35Speaker 3: careful with him.
- 36:36Speaker 4: It's, you know, a testament to him.
- 36:37Speaker 3: He forced their hand and it's like, hey, I'm here
- 36:39Speaker 3: to stay, so y'all got to figure out how to
- 36:41Speaker 3: handle me, you know. And and fortunately I think he
- 36:45Speaker 3: got this little break. You know, obviously you don't ever.
- 36:47Speaker 4: Want to go on the d L.
- 36:48Speaker 2: Sorry I L.
- 36:50Speaker 3: But you know he's he comes back guns blazing like
- 36:54Speaker 3: he was before he went down. That's a huge piece
- 36:56Speaker 3: to add into that mix. Whether you piggyback them things
- 36:59Speaker 3: like that. It's it's moves like we've talked about trying
- 37:03Speaker 3: to make a move without getting rid of people. Well,
- 37:05Speaker 3: these are the ones that can happen, you know, and
- 37:07Speaker 3: it unintentionally, but you get two arms that are big
- 37:10Speaker 3: league ready back and then that that piece that you
- 37:13Speaker 3: need now is maybe a little smaller than making a
- 37:16Speaker 3: big splash.
- 37:17Speaker 4: So it's it's when it can change overnight.
- 37:19Speaker 2: You know.
- 37:19Speaker 4: Krotene's knee hurts like it's crazy. Things happen.
- 37:23Speaker 3: You know, somebody can step out of bed and roll
- 37:25Speaker 3: an ankle today. You know, it's just it's it's the
- 37:27Speaker 3: craziest time of year and it's so fun though. That's
- 37:29Speaker 3: why baseball is so crazy, because it's you play one
- 37:32Speaker 3: hundred and sixty two games, but this week matters more
- 37:34Speaker 3: than anything else at this point.
- 37:36Speaker 4: So it's just like, you know, it's truly, Uh, it's
- 37:39Speaker 4: the best.
- 37:39Speaker 3: You know, best time of year all start game and
- 37:41Speaker 3: then to break it's a you know, trade deadline comes.
- 37:44Speaker 4: It's it's a lot of fun.
- 37:45Speaker 2: Hey, duff, you said col Sans has pitched to nine. Dude,
- 37:49Speaker 2: everybody's pitched the ninth for this team, every single the list.
- 37:55Speaker 2: By the way, let's do a shout out to Alex Jackson.
- 37:57Speaker 2: Did we do this? Did we tell them that? Do
- 37:59Speaker 2: we tell that the other day? Alex Jackson just prevented
- 38:02Speaker 2: them from being the first team or the Cleveland when
- 38:07Speaker 2: they were scoring. They scored seven straight innings there night.
- 38:10Speaker 2: Alex Jackson pitched that scoreless eighth Yes, stop, did we
- 38:16Speaker 2: mention this, did we say Alex Jackson? We probably did,
- 38:22Speaker 2: and we were just so Yeah, Alex Jackson pitched that
- 38:27Speaker 2: ninth or eighth inning and shut down and prevented Cleveland
- 38:31Speaker 2: from being the twenty second team all time to score
- 38:34Speaker 2: in every inning that it hit. Had they done it,
- 38:37Speaker 2: it's eight or nine innings. It counts for both Cleveland
- 38:42Speaker 2: would have in that game against the Joe Ryan game.
- 38:44Speaker 2: Maybe that was Monday night, but yeah, yes, so but anyways, yeah,
- 38:50Speaker 2: Cole Sands, that would be a big addition. But I mean, hey,
- 38:53Speaker 2: Jack Anderson is pitching the twelfth, which is essentially is
- 38:56Speaker 2: the ninth yesterday, So like everybody.
- 38:59Speaker 3: Things are the same him. Talk to the people. Every
- 39:02Speaker 3: inning's the same, that's right. And we can't forget we
- 39:06Speaker 3: got Clemmons on the bench.
- 39:07Speaker 2: We need an arm.
- 39:08Speaker 4: He's punched out on Tommy, so oh yeah, yeah, we
- 39:11Speaker 4: really need somebody.
- 39:11Speaker 2: We got one there, we go.
- 39:13Speaker 1: You can bring it back Astidio too if we need,
- 39:16Speaker 1: you know, some spot work.
- 39:20Speaker 2: Up next.
- 39:21Speaker 1: The Nomadic A's come to target Field, uh Friday, Saturday,
- 39:25Speaker 1: Sunday seven ten start tonight six ten on Saturday, one
- 39:29Speaker 1: ten in the afternoon on Sunday Zebbie Matthews against Jacob Lopez.
- 39:33Speaker 1: Tonight Sunday is Joe Ryan and Jeffrey Springs. Saturday has
- 39:37Speaker 1: no pitchers listed, so Conterprierlip maybe maybe they'll just set
- 39:40Speaker 1: a t out there. I don't know what the plan is,
- 39:42Speaker 1: but Lopez and Springs both some pretty fat eras on
- 39:46Speaker 1: those two. Obviously, the A's have been struggling all year,
- 39:50Speaker 1: uh an opportunity that they really need to take advantage of.
- 39:53Speaker 2: Dan The A's are three and thirteen in July, they
- 39:57Speaker 2: have been out scored one twenty one to sixty four,
- 40:00Speaker 2: so it is time for the offense. Zebi Matthews has
- 40:02Speaker 2: struggled a little bit lately. Time for Zebbie Matthews to
- 40:05Speaker 2: just get right. But that can just be seven innings,
- 40:09Speaker 2: four runs. He would help out the bullpen on a
- 40:11Speaker 2: big give them a big lift. And the way you
- 40:14Speaker 2: can do that is by scoring a ton yourself and
- 40:17Speaker 2: given Zebie Matthews some cushion. So a nice twelve to
- 40:20Speaker 2: four victory Friday would really set them up well for
- 40:22Speaker 2: the weekend because that bullpen, even though most guys were
- 40:26Speaker 2: one inning, they got the victory of the night before
- 40:28Speaker 2: and so guys had to pitch in that. So you
- 40:31Speaker 2: want to keep the usage as low as you can
- 40:34Speaker 2: on Friday. This is a key one for them because
- 40:37Speaker 2: if you can give you your key guys, if you
- 40:39Speaker 2: can give Morrison Gomez an extra day like we very
- 40:42Speaker 2: mail very well, may see like if it was a
- 40:46Speaker 2: close game, Tommy Nance and Jack Anderson pitching again in
- 40:50Speaker 2: the eighth and ninth innings on Friday, just because Gomez
- 40:53Speaker 2: and Morris both pitched two days back to back in Cleveland.
- 40:56Speaker 2: So offense, you know, offense take advantage this as team
- 41:01Speaker 2: is averaging allowing nine runs a game so far this month,
- 41:06Speaker 2: and that's that's probably a good time. Now, granted the
- 41:08Speaker 2: A's there splintered. Sacramento is a terrible ballpark. Did you
- 41:13Speaker 2: ever get to pitch their duff So we've never played PCL.
- 41:17Speaker 2: I've heard the four stories from everyone.
- 41:19Speaker 3: Yeah, and then well then they played that Vegas series
- 41:23Speaker 3: and they give up like a thousand runs in three
- 41:25Speaker 3: days between the two teams combined, like it was a
- 41:28Speaker 3: launching pad.
- 41:29Speaker 1: So yeah, boys to hit tonight, shout out Tommy. Answer
- 41:36Speaker 1: that that play in the bottom of the tenth yesterday
- 41:40Speaker 1: behind the back reached behind his back to feel that ground.
- 41:43Speaker 1: That ball might have been a problem if he hadn't
- 41:45Speaker 1: got it, and certainly if he has like just that
- 41:47Speaker 1: at it.
- 41:47Speaker 2: Yeah, right, Guardian magic, he's a sorcerer. He shot it down.
- 41:55Speaker 4: Is that what those statues are? Are they magical? Is
- 41:57Speaker 4: that what they are, maybe.
- 41:59Speaker 1: The tech, the city, yeah, right.
- 42:02Speaker 4: Protect the lake that's on fire.
- 42:04Speaker 2: Right Tyler.
- 42:08Speaker 1: Teams always say, you know, all the right things about
- 42:11Speaker 1: how you every game, you kind of treat it the
- 42:13Speaker 1: same way, but like, is there anything different that sneaks
- 42:16Speaker 1: in mentally when you have a team coming to town
- 42:19Speaker 1: that isn't loaded with superstars and you feel like you
- 42:21Speaker 1: should beat.
- 42:23Speaker 4: Yeah, it's the what happens is you get caught off
- 42:26Speaker 4: guard that that one inning or that one moment where.
- 42:29Speaker 3: The lapse and judgment happens, and then next thing, you know,
- 42:33Speaker 3: you know, like for me as a reliever, you come
- 42:35Speaker 3: in and it's like, oh, I got two on and
- 42:38Speaker 3: no outs and we're in a two run game here,
- 42:40Speaker 3: Like I gotta I gotta lock in quickly, and that's
- 42:43Speaker 3: when you know, you get popped for that big hit
- 42:45Speaker 3: or the homer or whatever it may be. And so
- 42:47Speaker 3: it's I've said it a few times, like when we
- 42:50Speaker 3: played some of these other series where you got to
- 42:52Speaker 3: show up tonight, don't mess around, don't don't wait for
- 42:55Speaker 3: them to make a move. You know, first inning tonight
- 42:58Speaker 3: you need to jump on some people, you know, and
- 43:00Speaker 3: like we hinted at their they're opposing starters. The ras
- 43:03Speaker 3: aren't great. You know, there's a reason for that. They're
- 43:06Speaker 3: gonna make mistakes, they're gonna leave them over the plate.
- 43:09Speaker 3: You know, maybe their defense is a little shoddy. Put
- 43:11Speaker 3: pressure on early, give your guys to give your arms
- 43:15Speaker 3: some room to work and and and let it play
- 43:17Speaker 3: itself out, because if you let them take any of
- 43:20Speaker 3: the momentum, the team, like the A's is waiting for
- 43:24Speaker 3: any glimmer of hope at this point, and so when
- 43:26Speaker 3: they see that moment, they're just they're they're going to
- 43:28Speaker 3: raise themselves.
- 43:29Speaker 4: Up to the moment.
- 43:30Speaker 3: They're going to try to anyway, And so you can't
- 43:32Speaker 3: let that happen. You've you've got to show up ready
- 43:34Speaker 3: to rock. You know, I keep saying it. You've got
- 43:37Speaker 3: to pop them in the mouth early and keep the
- 43:39Speaker 3: throttle down because this is we keep hitting on it.
- 43:41Speaker 3: This is a big series. You got to win these
- 43:44Speaker 3: trying to sweep them. Honestly, you can't hope for two.
- 43:46Speaker 3: You got to hope for three, you know, and settle
- 43:48Speaker 3: for two hopefully, and it's just one. Yeah, you got
- 43:52Speaker 3: to show up tonight and make a statement and let
- 43:54Speaker 3: them know they're.
- 43:55Speaker 4: Not going to come in here and sneak one out.
- 43:58Speaker 2: This is a team that earlier in this week lost
- 44:00Speaker 2: its number one prospect, Joshua Coroda, Joshua Caroda grower who
- 44:09Speaker 2: foul the pitch off and ruptured his I saw that, Yes,
- 44:13Speaker 2: the top ten prospect in all baseball.
- 44:16Speaker 4: This guy like hit it's gone.
- 44:19Speaker 2: Yeah he's he's uh Mitch Garver r I p like
- 44:24Speaker 2: like he uh this guy Like that's that's how down
- 44:28Speaker 2: bad they are right now? Like their best their best
- 44:32Speaker 2: and this is a team that can hit. Yeah this
- 44:35Speaker 2: Nick Kurtz remember how good he was last year. Jacob
- 44:38Speaker 2: Wilson's a stut Like, this is a team that can hit.
- 44:41Speaker 2: So yeah, keep them tamped down. Corona, they're they're they're
- 44:45Speaker 2: struggling across the board.
- 44:47Speaker 1: But that inspired by their fallen comrade there.
- 44:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 44:55Speaker 1: Well, we'll see the biggest series until the next one
- 44:59Speaker 1: starts U Tonight. Twins first game.
- 45:01Speaker 4: At Target Game of our Lives Tonight.
