- 2:37main event fights in three different weight classes on
- 2:40Saturday night. In the men's welterweight
- 2:43division, Kevin Holland defeated Vincent Luke by a second round
- 2:48submission. I can these are these UFC names
- 2:51are crazy. In the men's Bantam division,
- 2:53Mario Batista beat Patchy Patchy mix in four rounds by unanimous
- 2:59decision, his eighth consecutive win.
- 3:02In the men's middle weight division, Joe Pifer beat
- 3:07defeated Kelvin Gastelum. The last time I seen Gastelum
- 3:10fight a big fight was at it was at the IT was at the National
- 3:14Coliseum when he won the main event and he beat Chris Weidman.
- 3:17That was the last time I remember I'm.
- 3:19Pretty sure that's the last time he won.
- 3:21Yeah, and is now 5 and one in his last six fights.
- 3:26In the women's Bantam championship match, Kayla
- 3:28Harrison beat Julianna Pena with a second round submission.
- 3:33Harrison now joins Henry, I'm sorry, judo, judo as the only
- 3:40fighter to earn a Olympic gold medal and the UFC title in the
- 3:43same year. In the men's Bantam championship
- 3:45match, Merav the Machine beat Sean O'Malley with a third round
- 3:50submission. The Machine now has won thirteen
- 3:53straight UFC wins and hasn't lost a fight since 2018.
- 3:58I will first I'll get into the other fights really had no
- 4:02meaning and I'm not taking shots at any of the other fighters.
- 4:05Those fights. The Batista, Mario Batista is
- 4:08moving up in the divisions. We'll see how he you know how he
- 4:11competes against the better fighters in his division.
- 4:14He'd be patchy Nicks, he's not he's not a superstar fighter, so
- 4:19I'm not going to sit there and say that he is.
- 4:21The 2 fights that really stood out was obviously Kayla Harrison
- 4:25who has, has been an Olympic, Olympic champion and, and, and
- 4:28her, her thought your thoughts when you watch somebody like
- 4:31Kayla Harrison, it is, it's just a, a woman that's just been
- 4:36beating herself up to get to this spot, to get to the top.
- 4:40It took her so long and so many years to get a chance to fight
- 4:44for a championship and she finally got a chance.
- 4:46And what she has to do to train herself to get to that weight
- 4:51and lose that kind of weight. Remember, she walks.
- 4:54Did you see the before and after picture, like her face?
- 4:58Yeah, her face sunken in. And then like as she did it,
- 5:02it's. It's crazy.
- 5:04Like I I tried to do it one time because Chuck Liddell's a good
- 5:06friend of mine. And I was like, all right, I
- 5:10just want to do like, say you need to lose whatever.
- 5:12Like, I was like, I just let me see if I can do it, man.
- 5:17Those people are nuts. Like the things that they do to
- 5:21lose weight. And I'm like, I did it for like
- 5:252 days and I'm like Nah, I'm good man.
- 5:29Like I'll let it go. And it's just, I mean, it's so
- 5:32hard, but they're so they're so trained to do it.
- 5:36It was I loved her calling Amanda Nunez out too.
- 5:40And Amanda's like, I'll come back for you.
- 5:41So that should. Be good so for everybody to know
- 5:44and I'll get into the whole Amanda Nunez situation because
- 5:46everybody knew if Kayla was going to win the fight, which a
- 5:49lot of people predict, Kayla was the better fighter.
- 5:52Julianus Pena is a great fighter.
- 5:54She's great ground fighter. She's a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
- 5:57superstar. She's won so many not a
- 5:59tournaments, but you're going against a girl that's bigger,
- 6:02stronger than you and and nobody thought she was going to get
- 6:05tapped out. Julianna Pena is a great ground
- 6:07fighter. She got tapped out by Kayla
- 6:09Harrison, who's a great wrestler, a world renowned
- 6:12wrestler. But what makes Kayla so
- 6:14interesting and so fun to watch is her personality.
- 6:17She hated Julian Pena and I know they're trying to sell they're
- 6:21trying to sell a product and that's what the UFC wants you to
- 6:23do. But they really disliked each
- 6:25other. And after the fight, the fact
- 6:27that Kayla went up there and, and Pena went up to her and, and
- 6:30gave her a kiss and, and hugged her and, and they were saying
- 6:33they're their peace and probably apologizing to each other.
- 6:37Honestly, Kayla went up there and she put on her best fight.
- 6:40She went out there, she showed you why she's a champion.
- 6:43She showed you why she worked and how she worked to get to the
- 6:47top. And anybody that doesn't
- 6:49understand how hard it is to cut from one 7172 to 135, you heard
- 6:56it from her. She said she's been for years.
- 6:59She's always dropped 3040 lbs and it's usually that 1 LB or 1
- 7:031/2 lbs to drop was the hardest, hardest to to drop.
- 7:07And the fact and she said before that, before she did the weigh
- 7:10insurance, she still wasn't hitting that weight that she had
- 7:13to do other crazy things to draw herself to get that water out of
- 7:18her body so she could fight Pena.
- 7:21And I'll say this about Pena. She's a great champion.
- 7:23She came out and said obviously knowing that we know that Amanda
- 7:27Nunez is coming back to fight Kayla, Kayla Harrison.
- 7:30I think it's going to be a great fight.
- 7:31By the way, she said that she got next and that shows you the
- 7:35type of champion she is and how much she wants to be on top
- 7:38again. Now, the Amanda Nunez situation,
- 7:41I knew this was going to happen as soon as she was inducted to
- 7:44the UFC Hall of Fame a couple of weeks ago.
- 7:48I knew she was feeling it. I knew she wanted to come back.
- 7:52She had something brewing and I know she went to Dana White
- 7:55after she was inducted into the Hall of Fame and told Dana, I
- 7:58want to come back. I still can do this.
- 7:59I could still be a top of the bantamweight.
- 8:01This is the only woman that's old.
- 8:03Two titles in the UFC, This is the only woman that didn't lose.
- 8:07I think she won like 6-6 years in a row, barely lost the fight
- 8:12after she beat some of the best fighters in the Bantam champion.
- 8:15You know, the bantamweight, you know, the Bantam class, so the
- 8:18bantamweight class. So I, I, I love what I've seen
- 8:21with Kayla Harrison and I think this will be the probably the
- 8:24better fight. I don't want to see Juliana Pena
- 8:27fight Amanda Nunez because I don't think that's going to be
- 8:29much of a fight. I think these two have, they're
- 8:32heavy hitters. Kayla Harrison's very strong.
- 8:35She's she's definitely capable of taking or taking down Amanda
- 8:39Nunes, who's a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu specialist who has heavy
- 8:42hands, some of the heaviest hands and punches we've ever
- 8:45seen. A woman.
- 8:46I think she can knock out some of the men.
- 8:48So Amanda Nunes is going to get a chance to go back out there.
- 8:51But remember, when you step away from mixed martial arts, as long
- 8:55as Amanda Nunes has, it's been 3 1/2 years she's since she's been
- 8:59in the Octagon, That's a long time.
- 9:00It's like Conor McGregor wanting to come back and fight some of
- 9:04these guys that have been fighting for the last couple
- 9:05years. It's like you're asking to get
- 9:07beaten up. Now, I'm not saying Amanda Nunes
- 9:10is getting beaten up, but Kayla Harrison's no pushover.
- 9:14She's not one person that you can say, hey, I'm going to shove
- 9:16you and you're going to you're going to go down.
- 9:19This is a woman that's going to go at you.
- 9:21She's got a lot to prove. And like she said at the, you
- 9:25know, after the fight, she said that I'm I'm finally where I
- 9:28want to be. And for all the women and all
- 9:30the women that have had kids and that have structured their lives
- 9:33around their children and working their asses off, this is
- 9:36for you. That is something that you
- 9:39respect from a woman that's worked her ass off to get to the
- 9:42top of the USC. So congratulations to Kayla
- 9:45Harrison. Now, as far as Marab, I will say
- 9:49this. Marab is the best fighter the
- 9:52UFC has right now. You've heard it from me.
- 9:55Marab is the best UFC mixed martial artist in the UFC right
- 10:01now. It's not even close.
- 10:02And right now there he's third. He has thirteen wins in a row.
- 10:06I forget who has fifteen wins, but there's another I think in
- 10:09the the middle, the welterweight division, 170.
- 10:13I think he has, I always forget his name.
- 10:15He has fifteen wins in a row. So Murab has the second most
- 10:19wins in a row right now, consistently right now for the
- 10:23UFC. But going into the fight,
- 10:25anybody that thought sugar Shane O'Malley was going to have any
- 10:29shot in this fight. Yes, he put on some weight.
- 10:32Yes, he said he didn't have sex before the fight and for the for
- 10:35the last three weeks before the fight.
- 10:37Yes, he stopped eating crap and smoking weed.
- 10:39He came out and said that doesn't matter when you're
- 10:42fighting a guy that really is a machine that doesn't stop takes
- 10:46it to you is going to go after you has really corrected his
- 10:49boxing skills. This is a guy that is almost
- 10:52impossible to beat. Now, the engine that this guy
- 10:55has that he he he just, he goes after you throughout the fight.
- 11:005 rounds, 4 rounds, 3 rounds, 2 rounds.
- 11:03He has a motor on him. That's why they call him the
- 11:04machine. This is the problem.
- 11:07Guys like Conor McGregor and all these other fighters, they could
- 11:10go the first two rounds and then they die out and they can't do
- 11:13anything against these wrestlers.
- 11:14This guy is one of the elite wrestlers the UFC has ever had.
- 11:18And as far as his ability to stand up and really beat you
- 11:23from the hip down, I don't think there's anybody better than him.
- 11:26I don't think we seen anybody better than him, Yes, and I'm
- 11:29talking about some of the best wrestlers we've seen in UFC
- 11:33history. One of them who's never lost and
- 11:36retired a couple of years ago over there in Russia, Ukraine.
- 11:40OK, We all know that these guys have the ability to be
- 11:44consistent, and wrestlers are the toughest guys in mixed
- 11:48martial arts. I don't care.
- 11:49You could be a boxer, you could be a Brazilian Jiu jitsu
- 11:52specialist, a judo. You can have kickboxing, you can
- 11:56have more time when you're a wrestler, when you are a guy
- 11:59that has a motor like this guy, he's not big dude.
- 12:02He's 5-6. He fought Sugar sugar O'Malley.
- 12:06O'Malley was like five, 11510. This guy's 5-6 and O'Malley
- 12:11couldn't stand still. He was moving all around a stand
- 12:15up fighter, a boxing style of fighter.
- 12:18He couldn't do anything against this guy, nothing.
- 12:21And remember, this guy's in his mid 30s.
- 12:24He's getting better now. He's he's getting getting better
- 12:27by the fight. Usually when you're young,
- 12:29O'Malley, he's like 28 years old.
- 12:32This guys 34 years old, 33 years old, he's in his mid 30s and
- 12:36usually they start to tail off. He's getting better.
- 12:39He's better. And by the way, this division,
- 12:43the bantamweight division right now in the UFC for for as far as
- 12:47the men's division is the best in the UFC.
- 12:50It's not even close. The welterweight, the middle
- 12:52weight, the heavyweight, this is the best division and there's
- 12:55nobody there's nobody. He's gone through some of the
- 12:58best UFC fighters in this division that you've the
- 13:02divisions ever had. Hall of Famers he went through.
- 13:06So it is pretty incredible what this guy is doing.
- 13:09Rob. There's a reason why they call
- 13:10him a machine and he is a machine.
- 13:12I don't know what they do with Sugar Shane O'Malley.
- 13:15I don't know who where he goes. I don't know who they match him
- 13:17up against because I've been saying this.
- 13:19I told you, Speedy, after this fight, after the fights on
- 13:23Saturday night, the the problem right now with the USC, they're
- 13:26trying to find a guy that is a crowd pleaser.
- 13:29O'Malley was a crowd pleaser. He couldn't even go out there
- 13:32after the fight. He had nothing to say.
- 13:34You know why? He got embarrassed in front of
- 13:36everybody. He got neck cranked.
- 13:38He got neck cranked by a guy that is not even a Brazilian Jiu
- 13:42jitsu artist. He's a wrestler.
- 13:44He cranked his neck and he put him like a neck crank
- 13:46guillotine. It was unbelievable.
- 13:48Congratulations to Marab, and by the way, Long Island native
- 13:52Marab, who's training out a year on Long Island in the Longo Jam.
- 13:55I got a chance to see him last month, train here in Long
- 13:58Island. This guy's a beast.
- 14:00He's such a nice dude. It couldn't, it couldn't fall
- 14:03better for anybody that we've seen come out of Long Island,
- 14:06New York. Yeah, Jolla.
- 14:10Oh yeah, no, I mean, you kind of touched on all I it's literally
- 14:13like those guys are built different.
- 14:16And when you see like guys in their 30s and getting older, but
- 14:21they're getting better, it it just shows you the dedication
- 14:25that they have. And like with with these guys
- 14:28that have grinded their whole life too, this is easy for them.
- 14:31And, you know, he got over here what like little over 10 years
- 14:35ago, I think, and has just gotten better every time.
- 14:41And, you know, being able to to say that is kind of one of those
- 14:46lost arts because usually it's like, OK, Father Time wins.
- 14:49But you know, now he's getting better.
- 14:51And and look, it he beat him on something that's he's good at
- 14:57because you have to be in this sport.
- 15:00But it's not his cup of tea. And it just shows you the vast
- 15:04range of how now he's just getting better and expanding
- 15:07what he was already good at. So his fights are always
- 15:11entertaining. I've loved watching them.
- 15:15I'm, I'm excited. Girls fight.
- 15:18I think it'll be really, really fun.
- 15:20But Jabe, it's not just that he's beating these guys, he's
- 15:23kicking the crap out of him. You'd be.
- 15:25Winning. Oh yeah, I mean.
- 15:26He's knocking them out, he's choking them out, he's out
- 15:29fighting them, he's out beating them all the way to the ground.
- 15:32And this is the And by the way, he is the.
- 15:34This wasn't it wasn't a close fight, by the way, but.
- 15:36It never is not against this guy.
- 15:38The guy hasn't lost. I'm bringing up his record right
- 15:41now. The guy hasn't lost and I'm
- 15:43bringing it up. It was November 1st, 1st, 2014.
- 15:48That was the last time this guy has lost the fight.
- 15:51Oh, I'm sorry. No, that's that's wrong.
- 15:52April 21st, 2018 was his last fight, Ricky Simone.
- 15:56That was the last time he lost the fight and that that fight
- 15:59really got caught. But nevertheless, the guy's lost
- 16:03two fights since 2014. I mean, he's been practically
- 16:06impossible to beat any like I said, ever since he's gone to
- 16:10Longo's gym, he's been a different fighter and, and, and
- 16:13it's crazy. Longo's had three champions come
- 16:15out of his gym in the last 7 or 8, eight years, I'm sorry, not
- 16:207-8 years, 10 years with Weidman, obviously.
- 16:23Now you have Marab and his counter partner over there who
- 16:27you know, his is now selling houses in real estate here in
- 16:30Long Island who likes to show his face.
- 16:32So it's great. They but you did you see two
- 16:35like of his decisions, like 90% are decisions and now he's just
- 16:40he's that's why that's why I said he's expanding and now
- 16:43knocking people out in submissions.
- 16:44He only has three by knockout and two by submission.
- 16:48So everything and that just that that was my point.
- 16:51I'm saying it was like. Most UFC fights, especially in
- 16:53the bantamweight, if you're not, if it's not obviously O'Malley,
- 16:57they they usually end up unanimously or you're going to
- 17:00choke him out or beat him in submission.
- 17:02When you see a guy unanimously win a fight, that's domination.
- 17:06Where you're unanimously winning a fight, that's absolute
- 17:10domination. And if you look at the fighters
- 17:13that he's beaten, I mean, I would say about five of them are
- 17:16Hall of Farmers. Five of them are going to be
- 17:18Hall of Farmers, Jose, Aldo, Yan.
- 17:21But these guys, that's just three or four of them that are
- 17:24Hall of Farmers or automatically when they retire, they're going
- 17:27into the UFC Hall of Fame. This guy is the best fighter the
- 17:30UFC has to provide right now. It's not even close.
- 17:33I don't want to hear any more about it.
- 17:34This guy's the best fighter in the UFC.
- 17:36I think you're perfectly right on that arrow.
- 17:38I mean, morale, it's it's insane.
- 17:39Like he he just continues to get better and better as he ages.
- 17:43Like fine wine. I mean, you just mentioned it.
- 17:45I mean the the last six people he he's defeated Jose Aldo,
- 17:49Piotr Yan, Harry Saluto, Sean O'Malley twice and Umar Nomega
- 17:53Madoff. And always messed up his news
- 17:55too. I hate that.
- 17:56It was, you know, it was so dominant.
- 17:57I mean, I was watching the the main event and I will say this,
- 18:00I I think you're being a little hard on Sean O'Malley.
- 18:02I think he did do a, he did a little bit better.
- 18:04In the previous. Fight and look.
- 18:06I think after he got taken down, he slipped on that head kick
- 18:09attempt on Merab. It kind of went all downhill
- 18:12after that because when it got to like ground two and three, he
- 18:14was gassed out By that point, you could see into Merab's
- 18:17corner. He was smiling, laughing.
- 18:18His coaches were telling him to sit down and breathe and he gave
- 18:21him the the good old thumbs up like he was ready to go.
- 18:23He was ready for the next round. And he absolutely just dominated
- 18:26Sean O'Malley with and then, you know, even at the end with that
- 18:28ninja choke, I was impressive because like you said, Rob, he
- 18:31kind of it's. A neck crate?
- 18:32What? Happens.
- 18:33Is or neck? Yeah, NS ninja choke.
- 18:35But anyway, what? You do was.
- 18:37Just like originally. Like you said, he just wears
- 18:40guys down, but it seems like now he's looking more for finishes.
- 18:43He's trying to end fights quickly and just, you know, put
- 18:46instill his his will on guys. And you know, Sean, it's a shame
- 18:50because he just looked wiped out there.
- 18:52And, and personally, I'm not sure.
- 18:53Like you said, I think personally for O'Malley, the
- 18:55only thing for him to do is to move up to featherweight.
- 18:58And I know going from a Rob to Volcanovsky is not exactly the
- 19:00greatest substitute to do, but, you know, it seems kind of like
- 19:05in a way where Volcanovsky for Max Holloway, Volcanovsky was
- 19:09his kryptonite for Sean O'Malley.
- 19:11That's two brutal losses now to Murab.
- 19:13I don't think you can get past them.
- 19:14And you know, there's plenty of guys waiting in the wings.
- 19:16Piotr Yan, Corey, Sanhagan, Young So Dong and I think for
- 19:21O'Malley, unless he can fit, you know, figure something out with
- 19:24San Hagan is gonna be Freddio. San Hagan's gonna hit.
- 19:27Mardio, like you said, like he's the most dominant, he does not
- 19:31get tired. So that's the most impressive
- 19:32thing about. That's the hardest thing with
- 19:35mixed martial. Art.
- 19:36Oh yeah, no. It's the most.
- 19:37Important. It's amazing he he doesn't get
- 19:39it's almost like Tony Ferguson in his prime, but like on
- 19:43steroids like. Oh, don't you bring up Tony
- 19:45Ferg. What is up with you?
- 19:46You got you're an O'Malley lover and now you're Tony Ferguson.
- 19:49This guy, he's going to attack him and his.
- 19:53Kids back in it's Tony's prime when he was the boogeyman and he
- 19:56just stopped him before he fought Justin Gaichie.
- 19:59And then it's like, it just seems like morale like you say
- 20:01he gets better and better and he's fought Hall of Famer after
- 20:04Hall of Famer. And you know, I don't I don't
- 20:06really know who can to me, the only guy who stands a chance in
- 20:09the bantamweight division and gets him is Pyotr Yan just
- 20:11because Pyotr Yan is is a baller and he can he can last a long
- 20:14time as well. I don't think with the striking
- 20:16and the and the wrestling combination, but.
- 20:19I think, I think Marab, honestly, he might retire with
- 20:22the title, he might lay it down and no one might ever.
- 20:24I think what the UFC is going to do with Marab now is he's going
- 20:27to let, I think Dana White knows that there's nobody else for him
- 20:31to beat now they're, they're eventually they'll put him
- 20:33against Peter Young again if he gets a chance, an opportunity to
- 20:36fight there. I, I, I do think and I, I agree
- 20:39with you, but I, I look at the neck crank and, and what was so
- 20:42impressive about that chokehold was how he set him up.
- 20:46He set him up. He was his, his back was against
- 20:49the gate. His back was, he turned him
- 20:51around and made him go. He, he made him go flat.
- 20:55And when he did that, he put his body, he cranked his arm under
- 20:59his neck and he laid flat on his neck.
- 21:01And while he was trying to squirm and trying to control his
- 21:04wrist, he kept cranking it even deeper.
- 21:07I knew as soon as he got, he got that arm around his neck.
- 21:10There was no way he was going to get out of that.
- 21:12And it was like a minute and 50 seconds left of the round.
- 21:16There was no way a guy like Sugar or Sugar O'Malley was
- 21:19going to come out of that. It wasn't going to happen.
- 21:21It, it was it was insane because Merab had O'Malley.
- 21:24He had him pushed up against the cage.
- 21:25He was looking for that takedown and O'Malley was defending it.
- 21:28And then he finally worked up to a base and then Merab picked him
- 21:31right back up, threw him right back down on the ground.
- 21:32Like literally he he had four different takedowns right before
- 21:35that final sequence in that choke.
- 21:37And it just Sean, like you could see it right before he Merab
- 21:41locked his arms around his neck. He was done.
- 21:43He was just wiped. I I also think that obviously
- 21:46when you look at the, the ability that Murab has that
- 21:48other people don't have, there's not many fighters.
- 21:50If you remember Clay Guida, he was a guy that had a great motor
- 21:54and and that was that was what was impressive.
- 21:57Clay Guida, these wrestlers, Randy Couture, another guy that
- 22:00had great motor. These guys are guys that
- 22:03obviously Henderson Henderson had a great motor.
- 22:06All these Greco Roman wrestlers, these wrestlers, they all have
- 22:10great motors. And when you have the the
- 22:12advantage that you have against guys like Sugar O'Malley, who
- 22:15who's come out and said that he trained the hardest he's ever
- 22:17trained and he's worked as hard as he's ever worked, it doesn't
- 22:20really matter when you're facing guys that are just better than
- 22:23you are. And that's what he is.
- 22:25He's just a he's just a better overall fighter than you are.
- 22:28And now the UFC is going to have to figure out what they do with
- 22:30O'Malley. And O'Malley is going to have to
- 22:31decide what he wants to do as AUFC fighter.
- 22:35Does he either walk out, you know, walk away from this
- 22:37division and move up and maybe, you know, compete against
- 22:41Volkenowski or maybe one of those guys, one of the better
- 22:43fighters in that division, which by the way, that's a dying
- 22:46division, too. That division is getting old.
- 22:48And now you're trying to figure out what that next division is.
- 22:51And the UFC is trying to make the middle weight division a
- 22:54little bit more competitive and trying to get some of these
- 22:56older guys to move up and wait so they can compete against some
- 22:59of the young dogs that they want to become superstars.
- 23:02So it's going to be very interesting how the UFC and Dana
- 23:05White works this and how he's going to promote the next new
- 23:08coming fighters moving forward. Morab is 3334 years old.
- 23:13He's not getting any younger. But yeah, so he's not getting
- 23:16any younger. He's middle age.
- 23:17I, I do believe Murab has another like 5 fights left in,
- 23:21in him. I think he wants to make money.
- 23:23This O'Malley fight is the most money he's ever made.
- 23:25I think he's making, I think he made about $250,000 off this
- 23:29fight. And, and, and O'Malley made a
- 23:31lot of money. O'Malley made almost $1,000,000
- 23:33off this fight. Now you're looking at this is
- 23:36the champion. This guy's the best fighter the
- 23:37UFC has to provide. Now it's time for the UFC to pay
- 23:40this guy to go out there and put on a show.
- 23:42And he's putting on show after show after show.
- 23:45And it was a great, it was actually a lot better than I
- 23:47thought, this card. But nothing, nothing to me has
- 23:51ever come close to the card that was in December with all the the
- 23:55the big names that were on that card last year.
- 23:57So I want to see the UFC cards back-to-back cards that really
- 24:02sting people to want to go out there and spend $6570 for a
- 24:06pay-per-view. And I think right now they don't
- 24:08have enough superstars to do it. And again.
- 24:11I mean, I, I will say, I think that this summer there are going
- 24:14to be a lot of exciting cards. I think a lot of people are
- 24:17really excited for 3/17. Obviously, we're going to get
- 24:19the, the highly anticipated matchup between Charles Olivera
- 24:21and Elliot Zaporia. I think the US, especially Dana
- 24:23White, they want Elliot Zaporia to be their star.
- 24:26Obviously he was that a featherweight division knocking
- 24:28out Alexander Vulkanowski and Max Holloway.
- 24:31But you know, he, he, he was tired of cutting 145 and he
- 24:34wanted to move up to 155. And now lightweight just gets
- 24:36more bulked up. Obviously, I think lightweight
- 24:38is probably the most loaded and stacked division, but it is full
- 24:42of a lot of older veterans. You know, you have guys like
- 24:45Justin Gagey, you have Dustin Poirier who's ready to have his
- 24:48last fight very soon. I.
- 24:49Think Gagey is going to be walking away soon too?
- 24:52I think so, yeah. But you have, you have just, you
- 24:54know, you have Dustin Poirier, you have Charles Oliveira,
- 24:57who's, you know, he's getting up there in age, you know, probably
- 24:59has a couple more fights. This might be his last shot at
- 25:01the title, you know. And I I know they think they
- 25:03wanted Armin Saruki and to try to push to be that guy, but he's
- 25:06had a couple of pull outs. And I think Dana and UFC are
- 25:09sick of his antics. So, you know, I think they're
- 25:11very, they're really hoping that Iliate Zaporia takes over this
- 25:13division and becomes their next big star.
- 25:15He's a pretty boy. He's a pretty boy.
- 25:18We're in a very strange transition right now because
- 25:20over the last couple fights, over the last big paper views,
- 25:23we've lost a lot of champions. The only guys who've been
- 25:26champion for a while has been Alexander Pantoja and Islam
- 25:29Makachev. You know, we've lost, you know,
- 25:31obviously Murab, he defeated Sean O'Malley recently.
- 25:33Alexander Volkanovsky got his belt back after Iliad Zaporia
- 25:36vacated his title. Who else was Mega Man I?
- 25:41Goliath defeated Alex Pereira, probably their biggest draw that
- 25:44they had. And, you know, they're going to
- 25:45try to build him up. But I think they, I think Dana
- 25:47White definitely wants to see Pereira, you know, squeeze
- 25:50whatever he has left out of his career.
- 25:51And him losing the title wasn't great for them.
- 25:53You know, Jack della Manteleta, I think probably a little bit
- 25:56more of a interesting fighter than Bilal Decision, Merchant
- 26:00Muhammad, you know, I think they were definitely happy about
- 26:03that. But again, there's a lot of new
- 26:04champions, so they need new blood and new guys to.
- 26:06Step up and the. Problem Rob should be their
- 26:09focus. He is.
- 26:10He's going to be their focus. And again, if Murab continue,
- 26:13continues to dominate the bantamweight division, does
- 26:16Murab move up? Does he, does he challenge a
- 26:19Volcanowski? Who?
- 26:20I think that would be a great fight.
- 26:21Volcanowski and Murab 2 guys I. Think it would be a fan.
- 26:25I don't think he wants to fight goal because they're but I it
- 26:27would be a fantastic. It would be a great fight match
- 26:30up very well against each other. Both great wrestlers, takedown
- 26:33talent, both have motors. Both guys don't really give
- 26:37anything up in in in the middle of the ring or the Octagon.
- 26:40I think both guys could quite capably be double double
- 26:45champions in in multiple divisions.
- 26:47Volkanowski is also getting old too.
- 26:49He's like 38 years old. How much does he have left?
- 26:52So that's. The thing?
- 26:53I think after this title run it will probably be the end of
- 26:56Okonowski. I think he got his title back
- 26:58down. He's probably going to ride this
- 26:59out till he is defeated again. They're going to put.
- 27:03Him against garbage right now. I I think Volkanowski's next one
- 27:07or two fights, they're going to try to build it up until they
- 27:09put him against one of these big name guys.
- 27:11I think his, I think his next guy, his next challenge is
- 27:14probably going to be Mossfar Evala or probably Yair
- 27:16Rodriguez. You know I.
- 27:18Bet Yair gets it. I bet Yair gets it first.
- 27:20So over. It yeah, I mean, there is a
- 27:22chance you could maybe throw into Max Highway, but then he's
- 27:25fighting Dustin Poirier in his in his retirement fight at I
- 27:28think UFC 3. 18 I want to. Finish up, you know.
- 27:30You mentioned Yarir Rodriguez, who won his fight, just
- 27:33absolutely dominated the last fight.
- 27:35And I know everybody thinks that this would be a great fight.
- 27:38Yarir Rodriguez, he disappears in fights.
- 27:41He's either puts on these unbelievable fights or then he
- 27:44just completely disappears. His last three fights, 2 out of
- 27:47the last three fights, he doesn't he he doesn't fight
- 27:50consistently. And that's the problem right
- 27:52now. And I think mixed martial arts
- 27:54in the UFC need to get a guy that's consistent.
- 27:57And that's why Murab and and and why he's going to be such a
- 28:00superstar moving forward. You have Jon Jones not wanting
- 28:03to fight spin all now he wants to fight spin all and because
- 28:06everybody's trying to fight for his vacancy of his number.
- 28:08And we're going to get into that just one second because that's
- 28:11going to be my Golf Club. But I, I will say this, as far
- 28:14as I'm concerned, the UFC has a lot of problems and a lot of
- 28:17decisions to make because there there is no young superstar
- 28:21right now in the UFC. There are a bunch of middle-aged
- 28:24guys trying to figure out where should they be in the division
- 28:28and where they can go in the division.
- 28:31And Marab right now is one of those guys that you can honestly
- 28:33say that at 33. I think, I think the youngest
- 28:36guy they have that has a lot of pedigree right now is either
- 28:39Pantoja or Islam Makachev. And Makachev obviously does have
- 28:43that pole as a star. But Pantoja, you know, obviously
- 28:46at the Flyaway division, it's, it's not as deep.
- 28:48So you know it, it doesn't really, you know, it doesn't
- 28:50have that drawl. It's like you say.
- 28:51And Marab should be their focus. And you know, obviously we all
- 28:55know John Jones. I know.
- 28:56Look, I respect everything John has done, but I am so sick of
- 28:59him ducking Tom Aspinal. It's the fight that everybody
- 29:02wants to see that if you want to talk about numbers, that is the
- 29:05card to book. I hope it happens at the end of
- 29:07the year in. December, I'm going to talk.
- 29:09About it, I hope. I hope so.
- 29:10I hope John doesn't some. Oh, I don't.
- 29:13I'm better than this. I don't need it because I need
- 29:15to see that fight. I think the world needs to see
- 29:17that. It's it's going to happen.
- 29:19The problem is, is John Jones going to pay aspinol off?
- 29:22Because I think the last two fights John Jones has had, to
- 29:27me, it's it's I'm starting to believe that the UFC is like
- 29:31every other sport, it's all about buying and, and putting
- 29:34Fanny's in the seats and letting their champion rise up on the
- 29:37occasion. I don't want to see Jon Jones go
- 29:40into a fight and where he just completely dominates until, you
- 29:43know, in the first, first, first to second round and then he
- 29:46usually knocks him out. I want to see a fight that's
- 29:48going to go down and it's going to go down 3-4, maybe even 5
- 29:52rounds and take it to the end. That's what I want to see.
- 29:54But we haven't seen that with Jon Jones really since he's come
- 29:56back and and taking over the heavy weight division.
- 29:59By the way, he looks fat as ever the guy does.
- 30:01Not I will. I will say this though too.
- 30:03I do. I respect the steep MI Yochich
- 30:04but he should not have gotten a title shot four years off of a
- 30:07layoffs and being like pretty much kind of pseudo retired
- 30:10after losing to Francis Nagano. Like I understand they wanted to
- 30:13do Jones and Steep A and that probably would have been a great
- 30:16fight probably 3 or 4 years prior to when it actually
- 30:19happened. But like you said, I mean, John
- 30:22kind of just dominated Steve by Steve by looked like he was he
- 30:24was done. He was he wasn't ready to be a
- 30:26fighter anymore. It was just for a payout.
- 30:27It was all a payout. And like in the UFC1.
- 30:30Yeah. And like, yeah, he he literally
- 30:31went back to being a fireman. Well, that's what he is.
- 30:34Yeah. That's what he is, Yeah, But
- 30:36you? Know the Tom Aspinal and Jon
- 30:38Jones is the fight that needs to happen like to me the most
- 30:40second thing is Tom has had to had to pretty much put up with
- 30:43Jones antics in defending his interim title.
- 30:46I mean, an interim title is for when the lineal champion is
- 30:50unable to compete. And So what happens next is that
- 30:53you come back ready and you fight the interim champion to
- 30:55declare the undisputed champion. And honestly, if it doesn't
- 30:58happen, I, I, I don't really know what to say about Jon Jones
- 31:01to me. I mean, it's just, I'm just so
- 31:03sick of it. I need to see that fight.
- 31:04But you know I. Hope how many and how many
- 31:07chances is he going to get? He tests positive all the time
- 31:10he does this. He right, all the all the all
- 31:12the antics with Daniel Cormier and I mean, you know, he beat
- 31:15DC, but you know, a lot of people still hold that against
- 31:17John and say that like, you know, it wasn't clean.
- 31:19It wasn't it. Wasn't that's that's.
- 31:20Mixed martial arts, every, every champion and you've seen over
- 31:24the last couple of years, we're doing some kind of steroid or
- 31:27something to cut weight. It's not easy to cut weight in
- 31:30every single weight class and even to put weight on.
- 31:32The reason why John Jones was doing steroids is he was putting
- 31:35weight on. He put on 30 lbs of muscle.
- 31:38How do you think you put on 30 lbs of muscle and then put the
- 31:40fat on to fight against some of these bigger, stronger guys?
- 31:44I think John Jon Jones is is going to fight Aspinall and
- 31:47that's what my golf clubs going to be in just a few moments.
- 31:50I just think that the UFC has been wanting that.
- 31:53I don't think it's only a Jon Jones.
- 31:55I think it's I think it's Dana White picking the right card to
- 31:58put them on and where they're going to put them where it's
- 32:00going to sell out, which it will.
- 32:02And it's going to bring in more sponsorships and more
- 32:05advertisements for money for them to bring in the big box.
- 32:08And I think it's going to happen a lot sooner than later.
- 32:10I think it's going to be sometime in October, November,
- 32:12but. I think they I think they were
- 32:14shooting for International Fight Week, which was this and the
- 32:18end. No, it was the end of June
- 32:19pay-per-view. It was, but they ended up
- 32:20deciding on Iliad Taporia and and at Charles Olivera, which
- 32:24will be a great fight. But obviously John's, you know,
- 32:26something about he needs six months to train for this fight
- 32:29against Aspinal. But you know, well, we'll see
- 32:31what he's the champion. I hope it happens today.
- 32:33I hope we don't have to wait till next year.
- 32:35That's all I hope. The champion is the one that
- 32:38chooses when he wants to fight and and hopefully Jon Jones puts
- 32:41on a good fight and and shows everybody why he, some people
- 32:45say is the greatest champion the UFC has ever had.
- 32:48All right, ladies and gentlemen, our golf clap of the day.
- 32:52This deserves a golf clap. No doubt.
- 32:55Golf clap. Golf clap And Speaking of the
- 33:00UFC our golf clap of the day goes to this John Jones and
- 33:05aspinal story which is a growing legs in the MMA community at
- 33:10large has seemingly grown tired of this lengthy wait for Jones
- 33:15and Aspinall to have their long-awaited title unification
- 33:19clash so much that change dot organization or online petition
- 33:26a strip for Jones's title heavyweight title and has been
- 33:29created and signed by nearly 200,000 people that after the
- 33:35fight that just happened UFC 316 Dana Dwight was approached by
- 33:40the press before they even got into Marab and his dominance and
- 33:44they asked him what's going on with Jon Jones and Aspinall and
- 33:48he said Jon Jones finally agreed to fight Aspinall at the end of
- 33:53this year. So ladies and gentlemen, finally
- 33:56the UFC is going to get the heavyweight that the heavyweight
- 34:00championship that everybody wants to see that we were just I
- 34:02just was going back and forth with Jake.
- 34:05I I think this is going to be this is definitely going to
- 34:07happen. I think it's going to be
- 34:08somewhere between October and November.
- 34:10UFC 319, maybe 320. I think that's where it's going
- 34:15to happen. Maybe 320 because it makes it
- 34:17rounds it off to a good number at the end of the year.
- 34:20But I I absolutely believe it's going to happen.
- 34:23So my Golf Club of the day goes to the UFC sensational UFC316
- 34:29with Marab and now Jon Jones and Aspinall happening as Dana White
- 34:35right, has come out and said he agreed to it.
- 34:37So clap clap. Got a day John Jones.
- 34:42That was like my my my weird language of some kind.
- 34:47I don't know. You're trying to go for the
- 34:48hybrid accent. I don't know what it is.
- 34:50I am a little tired. I've been dealing with, I don't
- 34:53know if anybody knows what tonsillitis is, but it's like
- 34:56pus coming out of your tonsils and I've been dealing with it.
- 35:00I've been on heavy steroids for the last really week and and on
- 35:052000 milligrams of antibiotics and how I'd get through these
- 35:09shows is beyond me. But nevertheless, I'm the I'm
- 35:12proud of myself. I give the energy I can for the
- 35:15show and I do what I have to do to make the show, you know,
- 35:18stand out from all the rest and and all the guys really help me
- 35:20out. Speedy Jabba, the one and only
- 35:23fish scoops and Jake, you know what?
- 35:26Jake gave us a good Jake thank you, Jake for giving me a
- 35:30counter partner with mixed martial arts.
- 35:32I love it. I love it.
- 35:33I love when the kids come out and.
- 35:35Yeah, I didn't. I didn't say anything cool.
- 35:37All right, you. Know what?
- 35:38I was so impressed, Darrell, that I decided that we have to
- 35:42use Jake as our pronouncer because guess what?
- 35:46We're staying with the UFC for one more segment.
- 35:48Oh yeah. No.
- 35:49Sound it out, there we go. Oh yeah.
- 35:52Take a roll here, Jay Quelin. Where's Jay Quelin at?
- 35:54No Jay Quelin here. Do you mean Jacqueline?
- 35:57Let's sound it out. What you call me?
- 36:00Sound it out out. All right, guys, you know the
- 36:04sound. It is sounded out phonic
- 36:06Shamonics. Errol's got it.
- 36:08Errol, you beat us bad for the first time ever last week.
- 36:12You got all three. I had to make it a little
- 36:15harder. I had a sneaking suspicion you
- 36:18would struggle with UFC names and now I know it's a fact.
- 36:21Are you ready to play? Sound.
- 36:23I struggle with all different names, not just hockey names or
- 36:27basketball names or even football names.
- 36:29UFC mixed martial arts names are horrible.
- 36:32Also, boxing is very, very hard. Some of these these foreign how
- 36:35I from Haiti and and Jamaica. Some of these names are just
- 36:39absolutely unbearably stupid. I don't even know their parents
- 36:43gave them how they got their last name.
- 36:45All right, go ahead. Let's go, Jake.
- 36:46Let's go. Let's go.
- 36:48Let's go. All right, there's the music.
- 36:49I'm embarrassing. Mike.
- 36:50Here's the first one. Jake will help us be the judge
- 36:53of the pronunciation. This one, everybody knows.
- 36:56Sound it out, Khabib. Everyone knows that part at
- 37:03least. Nomaga no Magado.
- 37:07No Magado. What?
- 37:10I am bad with names, man. What do you want me to say,
- 37:13Nagamov? I don't know.
- 37:15Not a Medoff. There it is.
- 37:17Yeah. So I think technically the first
- 37:20part, it's Habib. It's silent, but yeah, it's
- 37:22Habib Nurmagomedov. Nurmagomedov.
- 37:25Should be like Nurmagomedov Habib.
- 37:28Yeah, I've heard more DC in them that when they've been talking,
- 37:31it could be, I mean, obviously. DC.
- 37:35That's Habib Nurmagomedov all. Right.
- 37:38Oh, for one, Errol. Let's move it on.
- 37:41Music back on. He looks like he looks like he
- 37:45ate his child. I mean, seriously, I I love.
- 37:48By the way, I'm just kidding. By the way, DC, I'm just
- 37:51kidding. I don't want to get in the ring
- 37:53with that guy. I don't want, I don't think.
- 37:55That's a good idea. Here's the next guy you got.
- 37:57It pronounced though sounded. Out.
- 38:00Oh my God, are you kidding me? Nazerdeen Imamov.
- 38:06I I think you were close till the end there.
- 38:10Imamov, Jake. Thumbs up or thumb down?
- 38:13I actually, I think that was pretty good.
- 38:15I think it's Nasser, Dean Amaya, but that was pretty good.
- 38:18All right, all right, get a point here.
- 38:20I got a. .85% mass. That's a point up in New York
- 38:23State for. The Regents.
- 38:25Nice job. Let's move on.
- 38:27You. You.
- 38:27Idiot. One for two, can we get the
- 38:31music back on one more time for sounded out.
- 38:36Last one, all the marbles. Here it is sounded out.
- 38:42Are you? Are you kidding me?
- 38:45All right, abuse on Makamotov. Jake.
- 38:58No abuse peon. Abuse Peon Makamotov.
- 39:04I think it's abusion. MAGA Madoff Thick.
- 39:08That's not. That's not.
- 39:09His bad. It just sounds funny when I say
- 39:11it. Abuse mom.
- 39:15Well, he is abusive. I'm sure with everybody in the
- 39:18Octagon and maybe somebody. You may have found our sport
- 39:21with the craziest names they. Do one for the arrow at.
- 39:24Least at least you didn't get Shabkat Rachmanov.
- 39:27There it goes that. Well, I'll probably get that
- 39:29next time. Thank you.
- 39:32Guys, another great episode. Arrow one for three.
- 39:34That's a 330 batting average. That's All Star game any day of
- 39:37the week. Another great effort on.
- 39:39Sound it out. It's just edible in many
- 39:42different ways, let me tell you. And if it was a cheese, it would
- 39:46be something that I wouldn't be eating, that's for damn sure.
- 39:48Anyways, in court in the court case House versus the NCAA, a
- 39:54California judge ruled in favor of the house and passed a
- 39:59settlement that will allow schools to directly pay college
- 40:04athletes this settlement. Settlement will end three
- 40:07separate federal antitrust lawsuits that claim the NCAA
- 40:13limited how much college actually athletes can earn.
- 40:17The NCAA will now be forced to pay about 2.8 billion in damages
- 40:23over the next or the the last 10 years to any college athlete
- 40:29from 2016 to to to today involved in this lawsuit.
- 40:34The ruling also created a path for a third party and NIL deals,
- 40:39allowing deals of over $600.00 or more for all athletes.
- 40:45Starting July 1st, schools will be able to distribute 20.5
- 40:51million of NIL money to athletes in a deal that is going to be in
- 40:57place for 10 years. ESP NS Paul Finnebaum said that
- 41:02this ruling will cause the NCAA to be nothing more than a
- 41:07directors of sports schedules, schedules and tournaments and
- 41:12will have no other power anymore.
- 41:15He added that he is worried about how this policy will
- 41:19affect sports that don't generate as much revenue,
- 41:23particularly women's sports. He believes that the powerhouse
- 41:26schools like Alabama, Ohio State, Texas will still generate
- 41:3175% of the money into their football program and says that
- 41:36this policy won't level the playing field for smaller
- 41:39conferences and schools as much as people think.
- 41:43Well, I, I mean, obviously there's a, there's a whole
- 41:46mouthful over there and I'm sure, let's bring Nick in
- 41:49because I, I'm sure he has his thoughts because he's actually
- 41:52coaching college baseball. And it's, it's interesting.
- 41:56I, I think here and I, I will mute Nick.
- 41:59Nick, we're going to mute you here just for a second.
- 42:01I, I want to, I want to say something.
- 42:04The NCAA has been screwing players forever.
- 42:07I've been saying this over and over and over again.
- 42:10I've been fighting for this for the last nine years.
- 42:13I have been supportive on what the NCAA should have been doing
- 42:17for the last 20 years. There are players, there are
- 42:20kids that yes, they're getting full scholarships, but they,
- 42:23they can't afford to go out and eat.
- 42:25And there are teams that are making money off their name,
- 42:28jersey sales. Why shouldn't these players get
- 42:32a piece of that? And it's been a big problem as
- 42:34we've seen Reggie Bush. Reggie Bush is still not
- 42:37respected by the Heisman committee.
- 42:39Why? Because he obviously took money
- 42:41under the table to help his family out.
- 42:43To me, this is what the NCAA should have been doing forever.
- 42:48And again, if you are your own name and you are bringing in
- 42:52people to come and watch you play stadiums that sell out
- 42:5660,065 thousand, why should you get a piece of it now while now
- 43:01with this lawsuit and an opportunity for some of these
- 43:04players to get money that didn't make money in the 2016 time.
- 43:08This is good for those players because there are players that
- 43:11are not playing professional sports anymore.
- 43:13They're done. So they didn't make enough money
- 43:16playing college. I mean college football.
- 43:19And well, they didn't make any money playing college football
- 43:21And now they they went to the pros and they probably didn't
- 43:24have much of A pro career. As we know, the average NFL
- 43:27player, if you're not drafting in the 1st 4 rounds are playing
- 43:31no more than two to three years. So the fact, the fact is the end
- 43:35of the NCAA needs to find a way to protect and and give these
- 43:39players what they deserve. Their names stand for something.
- 43:42And again, I believe the NCAA, look at Johnny Manzel.
- 43:46Johnny Manzel was thrown to the wolves all those years that he
- 43:50was over there playing for Texas A&M.
- 43:52Yeah, he was a star quarterback. They didn't show up the
- 43:55practices. But guess what?
- 43:56His name, his name meant something as we all heard Nick
- 43:59Saban come out and say he's the best quarterback he's ever
- 44:02played against. And that says a lot about all
- 44:04the great quarterbacks he's played against and championships
- 44:07that he's won. So I just think this is great
- 44:10for the players. It's great for the players.
- 44:12Now, obviously the small schools, there's a lot of
- 44:15questions to that. There are smaller schools that
- 44:17are not bringing in as much money and it's not going to
- 44:20drive players to want to go play there.
- 44:21Why? Because obviously they're not a
- 44:24selling point. Ohio State, SA selling point,
- 44:26Alabama, Georgia, the big schools, the SEC schools, the
- 44:30PAC 12 schools, the Big 10 schools.
- 44:33Those are obviously the schools you want to play for, not these
- 44:36small aligned schools like Wyoming that you're, you know,
- 44:39we have guys like Josh Allen come from and nobody gives a
- 44:42crap about. But those are the guys and those
- 44:44are the God that got the quarterbacks that come out of
- 44:47college football and blow up on, you know, in the NFL.
- 44:49So I think it's good. I also think that the NIL and
- 44:54college need to figure out how this could level out where it
- 44:57makes sense, where these players aren't bringing in too much
- 45:01money, where they why do they even want to go play
- 45:04professional football? They could just go make as much
- 45:06as they can, college football, college basketball and stay
- 45:10there for four years. Yes, it helps the, you know, the
- 45:13NCAA, but does it help the NBA? Does it help the growth of some
- 45:18of these NBA youth and some of these, by the way, franchises
- 45:22they're bringing to the NBA like Vegas or even Seattle that they
- 45:26want to bring in? If those superstar young players
- 45:28don't want to come and play for those school, those those teams,
- 45:32they'll say, you know what, I got another two years of
- 45:34eligibility. I can make more money doing this
- 45:37than going to the NBA or the NFL playing for this crappy team.
- 45:40I think that could hurt the NC, the NFL or any of the
- 45:46professional sports that I think is going to be a problem moving
- 45:49forward if they don't figure this out.
- 45:50Yeah, it's, it's one thing we talked about with the
- 45:52extremities of college sports is I obviously there's a conflict
- 45:57of whether the players are being paid or not, but it's also how
- 45:59they treated. And that's I think the biggest
- 46:00take away from this $2.8 billion in a lawsuit accumulated over 10
- 46:04years. Now for a while I wasn't sure if
- 46:07college players like getting paid would be a good idea
- 46:09because I thought, oh, they're young kids or they can abuse the
- 46:11money type thing. But I think it was Jeff that
- 46:13when he when he called one of my first years with the network
- 46:16that was saying how bad it really was.
- 46:17Because obviously he was working in insurance at the time with a
- 46:19lot of these college athletes. How badly that these schools
- 46:22treated, how badly these programs, these athletic
- 46:24directors treated him to not even get the basic essentials.
- 46:26And I think that's the combination of 300 plus schools
- 46:30coming into this and mistreating a lot of these guys and and
- 46:34they're being paid back with as far as going forward with the
- 46:36future. I don't know what Finebaum is
- 46:37worried about with this. Like, yes, the big schools are
- 46:40going to pay most of their money in the football anyway.
- 46:42I think they would have done that anyway.
- 46:43But there's still a lot of power schools that have great
- 46:45basketball teams. Alabama has a great basketball
- 46:47team now. Ohio State's had great, but the
- 46:50lacrosse teams, right, Lacrosse teams, hockey teams.
- 46:52There's enough college baseball like you guys talked about last
- 46:55week, Goody and Java. Like there's a lot of good SEC
- 46:57schools in that too, like how they distribute the money.
- 46:59Is that going to be all with football anyway?
- 47:00Because football teams are still going to have their reputation
- 47:03as it is. Will the biggest and I'll
- 47:05earners individually be football players?
- 47:07Most likely, yes. But that doesn't mean that, like
- 47:09you were saying, the Boozer brothers or Lebron's other son
- 47:13couldn't get like another big endorsement deal.
- 47:14Even if it's not a big or big school, it could be another
- 47:17California school that Bryce James goes to.
- 47:19It could be Fresno State that gives him a big endorsement
- 47:22deal. It doesn't have to be
- 47:23necessarily USC or UCLA that does that.
- 47:25I think they're all individual circumstances now.
- 47:28You're right, balancing out this alleged cap, it's not really a
- 47:31cap because it's not pro sports, but this alleged cap for the
- 47:34percentage wise is going to be strategic.
- 47:35But again, there's not going to be as much drastic swings like
- 47:38you see in other sports just because of that cap, is there?
- 47:40So I don't think it's going to be as extreme as you think.
- 47:42Is it going to be the other extreme where there's so much
- 47:44parody? I don't know yet.
- 47:45I think that'll only come over time.
- 47:46But there is some balance and deep conferences as a result
- 47:49because of it. And I don't think it's, I don't
- 47:50think Fine Bound has the right perspective on this.
- 47:54Yeah, it was. I actually had this conversation
- 47:56the other day when when it got passed with another a couple
- 48:00other athletes that obviously we were before this time.
- 48:04But what you guys fail to forget, if you are a college
- 48:07athlete, you still get paid because you get a scholarship
- 48:10check. You get money every month.
- 48:12Not obviously to the extent of this, but you get a scholarship
- 48:16check. So you're getting a physical
- 48:18check every month if you're a scholarship athlete.
- 48:21And it just depends on what your amount of your athletic
- 48:24scholarship is. And then there's other things
- 48:26that we get paid for like if you work a camp, if you do these
- 48:30things, like there were ways to get paid in college, just not in
- 48:34this Ave. So I always want to preface
- 48:37people like it wasn't like we weren't getting paid.
- 48:40It was just not to the extent of what it is right now.
- 48:44What I would also like to know too is OK, how much percentage
- 48:49does each? Does SCC get more than the big
- 48:5210? It said 20.5 for each school.
- 48:56Do you have to? Is there a rollover?
- 48:58Do you have to use it every year?
- 49:00Like there's a lot of stuff that I don't really know after
- 49:03reading it and trying to understand.
- 49:05I think it's for one year, but the biggest schools are going to
- 49:08have enough athletic programs to be able to distribute that.
- 49:11Like I always love the booty. No, but OK, so that's my point.
- 49:15So if you get a smaller school and say you use and you brought
- 49:22up a great point because this is a point that I brought up when
- 49:26we were talking about it. And then my buddy goes, OK, so
- 49:29in the contrary, so not these power 5 schools with some of
- 49:31these smaller schools, if they're getting that and now can
- 49:35offer a kid more money, is that going to make, is that going to
- 49:39change things? And where you can also still
- 49:44make nil on top of it. But it's like, oh, I can pay my
- 49:47this player directly. Maybe I can him off of what
- 49:52school he thought he was going to go to because we're going to
- 49:57give him 50 grand more or 100,000 more because now you can
- 50:00directly pay them. So it it'll be interesting to
- 50:04see in what capacity this does affect some schools and other
- 50:09schools. It's not really like for us, I
- 50:12mean, we got football players making two $3,000,000 and so we
- 50:17got volleyball players making almost $1,000,000.
- 50:20So I mean, it's just art here. I just know it because I'm a
- 50:25part of it. Seeing my son and kind of what
- 50:28the things that they do on his level is kind of different as
- 50:31well. But I just want to see how it
- 50:33changes, not necessarily a dynamic, but how some decisions
- 50:40I think will be made. Because I, I'm literally saying
- 50:43like now we're not making decisions for our children, for
- 50:50their education 100% when they go to college.
- 50:54Now we're making business decisions.
- 50:57You know what though, Jabba? What I learned is, especially
- 51:00someone who had really good grades for a long time like I
- 51:03did, and, you know, I didn't have connections when I got out
- 51:06of college. But if I was in this era and I
- 51:10was an average player on a winning team, I would have
- 51:13gotten a small NIL deal. Yeah, for sure.
- 51:16But think about what I would have done.
- 51:17I would have made connections in different industries doing that
- 51:21NIL deal. And I could have possibly set
- 51:23myself up with some of those connections to take me somewhere
- 51:26in life. And I think that's kind of what
- 51:28a lot of people are missing with this NIL stuff.
- 51:31Now that it's going to be standardized, think about how
- 51:33big those college football teams are and how few of those guys go
- 51:36to the NFL, right? It's 9, like 95% of them to 99%
- 51:41of them are not going to the NFL on, on most of these teams,
- 51:45except for Georgia, of course. But there's this is going to be
- 51:50a killing thing that we saw forever that these guys would
- 51:55play and they'd get nothing after they played.
- 51:57Now they have connections. They have a little business
- 52:00experience that's you could always go back and take classes
- 52:03and get more degrees. I know someone who has like 7°.
- 52:07It's for their fun. It's not.
- 52:09They just wanted to get more degrees.
- 52:10You can keep going and getting degrees.
- 52:12You don't have to do it by the time you turn 22 years old.
- 52:14And I think that's a big deal. I do disagree with the
- 52:18scholarship thing and this is something Errol, I've been.
- 52:20I'm so excited to talk about this because this is one of my
- 52:23long time arguments. I don't think I've ever shared
- 52:25it with you. I hate the argument that
- 52:27scholarship is how you get paid in college.
- 52:30Because think about this. The baseball player who helps
- 52:33win the championship that's bringing all this added value to
- 52:36the school gets the same free scholarship as the 7th
- 52:39midfielder on the girls lacrosse team that gets a free ride to
- 52:43the school as well. That does not bring that.
- 52:45No, my, my whole point was no, my whole point was that we still
- 52:48were getting money. Not sort of, but you're not, but
- 52:51you're getting ripped off, you know, for your work, you know,
- 52:54you're doing a lot. You're getting that same deal as
- 52:57someone who's bringing no value to the school and they're making
- 53:01all that money. And that's why I'm so happy that
- 53:03has changed. But even bigger thing is now
- 53:06these guys that aren't the stars can actually set themselves up
- 53:09after school. I think that's really cool.
- 53:12Yeah, but still, at the end of the day, you're you're still not
- 53:15paying the 7th midfielder in lacrosse.
- 53:17Like, let's just be serious. Well, I was exaggerating, but
- 53:20you know what I mean. I'm not a star player and not a
- 53:22not a sport that draws in the school.
- 53:25They still get a free ride, right?
- 53:27You know? Like it just depends on what
- 53:29conference cuz each conference is different.
- 53:32I think that what's going to happen is the conferences are
- 53:34going to get realigned, Darrell and Java, because of this money
- 53:37thing. And just economically, you're
- 53:39going to see the schools rise to the top.
- 53:40I hope there's a middle class. I don't think there will be if
- 53:43you don't have some revenue sharing, which I hope they do,
- 53:46but it's going to be a lot of haves and have nots.
- 53:48You're going to have one really great division of football and
- 53:51you're gonna have a lot of teams that are either going to be over
- 53:54or forced. Down I will say this and I know
- 53:56a lot of people are going to probably have their own
- 53:58arguments to this and what some of these athletes should be
- 54:00making or if they should even be getting the money that they're
- 54:03getting. And I understand what job is
- 54:05saying that they already were getting checks and they weren't
- 54:08ready getting scholarships. Here's the thing.
- 54:10I I look at it as what I believe these schools are bringing in.
- 54:15If you're going to a ball game and you're bringing in 10s of
- 54:18millions of dollars through sponsors and corporate, you
- 54:22know, corporate advertisements, these players should get a piece
- 54:26of it. It's their names out there.
- 54:28It's their names on the back of the jerseys.
- 54:30And then everybody says like Nick Saban says, wait a second.
- 54:32Some schools don't have their names on the back of the
- 54:35jerseys. Well, that's your problem.
- 54:36They're out there putting their bodies on the line and they they
- 54:40could go paralyzed, They could be brain dead.
- 54:42They're out there, they can hurt their knee and they could be
- 54:46they can never play professional football or basketball ever
- 54:48again. As we've seen this before in the
- 54:51NBA, There are quite a few players that come to the NBA and
- 54:53never have much of A career because they hurt themselves in
- 54:56their early careers and college basketball.
- 54:59So this has been going on in, you know, college sports forever
- 55:03and these players are really not getting getting anything behind
- 55:05it now, I think, and everybody says, well, they're getting a
- 55:08college education. Let's talk about college
- 55:10education. Let's be honest here.
- 55:12It's great to get a bachelor degree.
- 55:14Now you're looking at you need a master's degree to even get a
- 55:17good job out there if you're not going to school.
- 55:20That's why a lot of these ex athletes they're going to sales
- 55:23and they're going they're selling cars or they're selling
- 55:26mortgages and stuff like that because they they're putting
- 55:29their name out there. They're selling it with their
- 55:31name. That's what they're doing.
- 55:32So what do you think these these teams, these colleges are doing?
- 55:36They're selling their names. So why shouldn't these college
- 55:39players make money off their names just like professional
- 55:42teams? Why you look at Peyton Manning,
- 55:44Do you think the Indianapolis Colts would have meant anything
- 55:48until Peyton Manning went over there?
- 55:49They were a horrible organization going nowhere.
- 55:52Then they added Peyton Manning, then Marvin Harrison, then
- 55:55Reggie Wayne. Then they put Clark there,
- 55:57Dallas Clark there. They built a whole defense
- 55:59around who their superstar player and why were people
- 56:03selling out games? Why were people going to watch
- 56:05the Indianapolis Colts play Peyton Manning?
- 56:09So that's why Peyton Manning, that's why the quarterbacks get
- 56:12the most money. They're going to get the credit
- 56:14when they're winning and they're not going to they're going to be
- 56:16attacked when they're losing. So that's what I'm going to say.
- 56:19I don't think it's it's horrible the way the NCAA has not really
- 56:23stood behind some of these youngsters and Nick Saban, why
- 56:26he walked away. Dabo Sweeney, his big ass mouth
- 56:29coming out and throwing players under the throwing them under
- 56:32the gun and running them over with his are telling everybody
- 56:35that they shouldn't be making the money.
- 56:36Why? Because you want to make the
- 56:38money. You're making $12 million a year
- 56:40while these players are putting their bodies on the line as you
- 56:43recruit them. Why do you get all the money,
- 56:45buddy? Why does the school get all the
- 56:47money? I think it's absolutely
- 56:49pathetic. And by the way, these kids don't
- 56:51even finish their college educations.
- 56:54They go right to the NFL because most of these kids or an NBA or
- 56:59any of these schools, because most of these kids come from
- 57:01nothing. They come from poor families,
- 57:04parts of the world where you need to work your ass off to get
- 57:08over the top. So now you have guys like talks
- 57:11about, I'm sorry, Williamson. Remember when Williams King
- 57:15Williamson came out of Duke and everybody said, why don't you go
- 57:17play another year in college basketball with RJ Barrett and
- 57:20that team, you can win a championship.
- 57:21You know why? Because he comes from a place in
- 57:24Florida where his family was living in a little barn, like a
- 57:29little barn, like a little house.
- 57:31So obviously these guys need the money, their families need the
- 57:35money, and that's why I think that college football, college
- 57:39basketball, college hockey, college lacrosse, college
- 57:41soccer, whatever college sport, should absolutely give these
- 57:46players the money that they're putting their names on those
- 57:49jerseys and they're selling tickets because of those guys
- 57:52being there. Absolutely.
- 57:54I think it's pathetic and the NCAA should be ashamed of
- 57:57themselves for the last 25 years not doing it as we've seen.
- 58:00Remember the movie? The program?
- 58:02Remember that movie? What a great movie.
- 58:04Remember that pet? Movie Latimer, the best
- 58:06character ever. Yeah, he's like he's got only
- 58:09underwear on and like 120 LB dumbbells taking the juice and
- 58:14going no problem, I'm doing curls.
- 58:17It's been going on in sports forever.
- 58:19If you think these guys weren't getting money under the table,
- 58:21and remember the FBI was, you know, searching the NCAA,
- 58:25college basketball and coaches, you know, doing it under the
- 58:28table, what was it 3-4 years ago?
- 58:30Me and Speedy were talking on the show when we were doing our
- 58:33show. It it's been to me.
- 58:35I think college sports has been the biggest bull crapping
- 58:39organization, thievery organization.
- 58:42I don't want to say it. I want to use bad words.
- 58:44I'm not going to do it because they have stolen these kids, you
- 58:48know, manhood. Some of these kids will never
- 58:51play professional sports. They're college born players
- 58:54that could be making 10s of millions, 10s of hundreds of
- 58:56thousands of dollars if they never stepped foot on a
- 58:59professional field where they can set their families up and
- 59:01their own families up for the future.
- 59:03And they couldn't do because the NCAA are grubbers, thieves and
- 59:08pieces of garbage. That's all I'm going to say
- 59:10about that. Goody, before you get all
- 59:12situated, I just want to read Bill P in our comments section.
- 59:14I had to play pay his way in college play baseball at
- 59:17Virginia Tech when they were a club team.
- 59:18That's really something. How many college athletes have
- 59:20been permanently injured and unable to play sports Again,
- 59:22very good point. And yes, the players going to
- 59:24make the suit of money. They should get paid well and
- 59:25Java. That's what we were saying with
- 59:27the the 20.8 million. How you distribute it to some of
- 59:29those smaller schools might give like a good chunk of that to 1
- 59:31athlete just to bring in a star, or you balance it out and try to
- 59:34grow all your programs organically.
- 59:36It's very interesting. Every school's going to do it
- 59:37differently. That's what makes this beauty of
- 59:39the conferences so great. Gad Goody.
- 59:42No, it's just it's going to be tough for it's very tough.
- 59:45I was just talking to my old coach Pulmonary tonight
- 59:49actually, and it's crazy. It's crazy what what the
- 59:53landscape has changed drastically and it's really hard
- 59:56on coaches now. Coaches have to come up with
- 59:58money and as far as the the NCA. The clearinghouse thing goes
- 1:00:04from my understanding the schools now will pay players
- 1:00:07directly and they can still get NIL money.
- 1:00:13But that being said baseball now is going to have like 34 full
- 1:00:16scholarships so where they only had 11.7 for the longest time
- 1:00:19and now have 34 full scholarships.
- 1:00:21So every player can get a full ride technically, but.
- 1:00:24And the and the roster's smaller.
- 1:00:26And the roster's smaller is 34. So it's, I mean, it's going to
- 1:00:29be interesting to see. I go back and forth with players
- 1:00:33getting paid. I didn't get paid.
- 1:00:36So, you know, I wish I would have.
- 1:00:39But at the same time, it's, you can see there's thousands of
- 1:00:43kids in the in the portal right now.
- 1:00:45And it makes coaching so much more difficult because if the
- 1:00:49kid has a 12 innings on the year, he can just say I'm out.
- 1:00:53And now you have to basically redo your entire roster every
- 1:00:57single year. And it's really hard on their
- 1:00:59coaches because their jobs are on the line every single year.
- 1:01:02So you really have just a finite time to try and get some players
- 1:01:06to buy into your program. And really it's free agency
- 1:01:09every year. I mean, it truly is like the
- 1:01:11wild, Wild West. It's, it's crazy.
- 1:01:14I don't know really. I don't, I don't know how I feel
- 1:01:16about it right now, but I am happy that the players are
- 1:01:19getting paid because as you said, sometimes you can have a
- 1:01:21career ending injury in college. And 10 years ago, 12 years ago,
- 1:01:27that meant you're you were done and you were basically just
- 1:01:30going to school to earn a degree and trying to figure out what
- 1:01:32you want to do next. But now who was the running
- 1:01:34back? I'm sure you make a million.
- 1:01:35Nick, I'm sorry, who is the running back?
- 1:01:37Sorry. Is claret you're talking?
- 1:01:38About no, it wasn't claret because he he was, he really
- 1:01:41never even played professional football.
- 1:01:43He was a running back. He hurt his knee.
- 1:01:45He went to Buffalo. I think he played for Buffalo.
- 1:01:47I forget he played from Miami. I think he played for the
- 1:01:49Hurricanes. He was a pretty good running
- 1:01:51back and he hurt his. Knee.
- 1:01:53Oh, it was his. It was his knee, right?
- 1:01:55You talking about Mcgahee? Mcgahee.
- 1:01:56Willis Mcgahee. Willis Mcgahee, Remember that,
- 1:01:59that whole thing with him, of course he had to put, he put an
- 1:02:03insurance policy on him before he even played college ball.
- 1:02:06Why? Because they weren't paying him.
- 1:02:08And if I'm sorry. I had one.
- 1:02:11I had a Lloyd's of London. No, there you go.
- 1:02:13So some of these players are putting, obviously at the time
- 1:02:17they were putting insurance policies on their bodies because
- 1:02:21if they didn't, if McGee never played professional football
- 1:02:24again, he is his. Him and his family would have
- 1:02:26been screwed. I thought McGee was very smart.
- 1:02:28I think Troy Palamalu, I know everybody makes jokes about it
- 1:02:31because Palamalu put a $4 million insurance policy on his
- 1:02:35hair. He really did do that.
- 1:02:37He 100% did that well. Jlo put like a $50 million
- 1:02:42policy on her butt. Yeah, I believe it.
- 1:02:45And, and again, obviously these these particular players and
- 1:02:50obviously these superstar players and Mcgehey had a long
- 1:02:53career in the NFL and made a lot of money, but who knows what
- 1:02:56would happen? And then his knee, he he tore
- 1:02:58his knee and some people thought his career was over.
- 1:03:00And then he was drafted, I think in a second round, and he became
- 1:03:03a pretty good running back in the NFL.
- 1:03:05Might have been the end of the first.
- 1:03:06Think it was the second round. Being talked about like as a top
- 1:03:09guy, like like really top of the draft coming out and then he,
- 1:03:13that knee blew up on that play in the championship game and
- 1:03:16everyone saw it live. But I pretty sure 'cause I was
- 1:03:20in Buffalo at the time, he was up there and when I was in
- 1:03:23college and they loved that guy. He just what he was such a power
- 1:03:27back. They gave him tons of carries.
- 1:03:29He he came back from that and that was one of the is one of
- 1:03:32the worst injuries I've seen and similar to a guy that I'm going
- 1:03:35to talk about in our sportsman in.
- 1:03:36A second. I got it.
- 1:03:37Willis Mcgahee was drafted 23rd in the first round.
- 1:03:41There you go. Yeah, late 1st, late 1st.
- 1:03:43Played for the Bills and the Ravens.
- 1:03:45He was drafted by the Bills. He played for Denver, the Ravens
- 1:03:48and Cleveland as well, right? I remember him with the Ravens a
- 1:03:52lot at the end there, yes, but he was a good player.
- 1:03:54The Bills fans, as you, I'm not surprised, love that guy and
- 1:03:57they love their players and they they love that guy because he
- 1:03:59was a he was a ball. Hawk, he was the first.
- 1:04:01He was the first. He was my first college like NFL
- 1:04:07prospect I ever met in my entire life.
- 1:04:09Willis McKay here, that was the first one I ever met and one of
- 1:04:13the nicest people you'll ever meet.
- 1:04:15Such a nice, nice dude. You know, it looks like a mean
- 1:04:19guy with big legs and stuff like that.
- 1:04:21One of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.
- 1:04:23And I it it he had a great career.
- 1:04:25I'm looking at his career. He had a long career, but he.
- 1:04:27Did imagine if he didn't get hurt though, you know what I
- 1:04:31mean? Like that guy, it could have
- 1:04:33easily been a lot worse. He was just a free tenure and
- 1:04:36was able to come back from that injury, you know, at a young
- 1:04:38age. I had pretty good.
- 1:04:39Numbers and thank God for that, for him. 8474 yards, 65
- 1:04:43touchdowns So. You know who the Bills replaced
- 1:04:46him with. No, there was a couple of love
- 1:04:50Skittles. Love Skittles.
- 1:04:52Mr. Skittles, Mashawn Marshawn Lynch, Right.
- 1:04:54Yeah, so when they and he was there he go because he just
- 1:04:57didn't have the speed. And remember who drafted
- 1:04:59Marshawn Lynch? That's.
- 1:05:01What I'm saying, it was the Bills.
- 1:05:02The Bills And why did he? Why did they trade him?
- 1:05:06I don't remember. That because he posted in his
- 1:05:09car that he was smoking marijuana.
- 1:05:11He was posting in his car. He was on a live video while he
- 1:05:15was smoking a blunt in his car at the at the facility.
- 1:05:20In his call that's that sounds about.
- 1:05:22Right, Marshawn Lynch. So that's just a true story.
- 1:05:25And they traded him to Seattle and we all know it from there.
- 1:05:28So Marshawn Lynch had a sensational career and won a
- 1:05:31Super Bowl over there in Seattle.
- 1:05:33So he knows all about winning, as we all know.
- 1:05:35I I think we do. I mean, I think he sometimes
- 1:05:38lost a little bit in, in his own little mind and he probably pops
- 1:05:42too many skills in many different areas of the world,
- 1:05:45especially in the women's world. That's it for a show.
- 1:05:48We'll be back on Thursday. Who do we have on?
- 1:05:50Returning to the show, first time in a while for him.
- 1:05:52Tobin Anderson returning to the show at the time we had him on,
- 1:05:55he was the Iona head coach infamously won the as a 16 seat
- 1:05:58with fairly Dickinson. We've had a few of their players
- 1:06:00on the show as well. And now he's actually the
- 1:06:02assistant coach at USF after Iona, as I mentioned in my
- 1:06:06previous what's strangely fired him, but he's now a special
- 1:06:10assistant to the head coach at USF.
- 1:06:11And by the way, I, I just got a text message that we should be
- 1:06:15getting in the next couple of weeks, Tyler McGill on the show.
- 1:06:18So that's something, you know, Peterson didn't work out,
- 1:06:22unfortunately, but a boy, Mr. Agent himself hooked us up.
- 1:06:26He got, he went, he went to a signing autograph thing and he
- 1:06:30talked to Tyler. And Tyler says he would love to
- 1:06:32come on the show. So be fun to get Tyler on the
- 1:06:34show and hear what he has to say about the New York Mets and
- 1:06:37their pitching staff, which is pitched very, very well this
- 1:06:39year. So we'll see. 2.81 team ERS.
- 1:06:41Stop it, stop jerking off with something.
- 1:06:43Whatever the hell you doing is stop.
- 1:06:45Well, I'm sod is hitting 244 when he gets already complained
- 1:06:47about him earlier. All right, I'm just saying 768
- 1:06:50million dollars of waste dog shit that could.
- 1:06:53Have been wasted on worst pictures.
- 1:06:54That's true. I mean the Yankees got 3 for the
- 1:06:56price. Of one we tried that already
- 1:06:58with Max Scherzer and Justin Verley.
- 1:06:59We. Got to go, OK, people got to go
- 1:07:01to bed. People got to go to sleep.
- 1:07:02Anyways, thank you to all the fans.
- 1:07:04Keep listening to us, TuneIn, we're on Blue Wire.
