Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: What is going on?
- 0:02Speaker 2: This is Jake Hofer, and welcome to another episode of
- 0:04Speaker 2: Rot Fresh presented by Moultrie. We're on the heels of
- 0:06Speaker 2: one of the first very strong cold fronts in October,
- 0:10Speaker 2: and there was a lot of success across the country.
- 0:12Speaker 2: We're going to be diving into that with some of
- 0:14Speaker 2: the guests, but a quick shout out to Jack Houston,
- 0:17Speaker 2: who was a previous guest two weeks ago. He tagged
- 0:19Speaker 2: his target buck on Friday, and here across the Midwest,
- 0:23Speaker 2: Friday evening seemed to be a magical, great evening for
- 0:27Speaker 2: a lot of hunters. And Phil, who's our first guest
- 0:30Speaker 2: this week, recaps what it was like with the great weather,
- 0:33Speaker 2: the first good cold front, and hunting over a freshly
- 0:36Speaker 2: picked cornfield. And so this week we have Phil Tuttle
- 0:39Speaker 2: from Illinois. We have Jordan Budd from Nebraska.
- 0:42Speaker 1: And we have Josh Henson from Florida.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Texas and so we have a wide variety of guests
- 0:46Speaker 2: here and i'm going to jump into the weather report
- 0:48Speaker 2: for this week from october 21st to the 28th the
- 0:50Speaker 2: main story this week is warmer and drier weather across
- 0:53Speaker 2: much of the midwest high pressure will keep temperature above
- 0:56Speaker 2: normal with widespread 60s and 70 degree days with limited
- 0:59Speaker 2: precipitation through the weekend winds will generally shift south to
- 1:02Speaker 2: southwest as the week progresses by late weekend into early
- 1:06Speaker 2: next week a system moving across northern u.s could bring
- 1:08Speaker 2: increasing winds following pressure and a frontal boundary into the
- 1:11Speaker 2: upper midwest further east Unsettled weather and stronger winds remain
- 1:14Speaker 2: possible along portions of the East Coast. And overhead, the
- 1:17Speaker 2: moon continues building toward the full Hunter's Moon on Sunday,
- 1:20Speaker 2: October 25th. That's your Whitetail Weather Report through next Wednesday.
- 1:24Speaker 2: We're getting into the time of year where the calendar
- 1:26Speaker 2: carries more and more weight, more so than the weather,
- 1:30Speaker 2: in my opinion. But the weather is still by far
- 1:32Speaker 2: the most important factor into this. So that's my two
- 1:34Speaker 2: cents for this week before we jump into our first
- 1:38Speaker 2: guest with Phil Tuttle. Here we go. All right, kicking
- 1:47Speaker 2: off this week's episode, we have Phil, who just had
- 1:51Speaker 2: maybe one of the most remarkable weekends or memorable weekends
- 1:54Speaker 2: a guy can have, a whitetail hunter can have.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Is that right?
- 1:58Speaker 3: Oh, my goodness. I don't know how it could have
- 2:00Speaker 3: gotten any better, man.
- 2:03Speaker 4: I'll tell the story in a minute, but I was
- 2:04Speaker 4: able to take my biggest buck with a bow.
- 2:07Speaker 3: In just a crazy cool scenario.
- 2:09Speaker 4: And then the next night, my wife took her first
- 2:12Speaker 4: deer and first buck, both on the ground. Uh, mine
- 2:16Speaker 4: with a bow, hers with a crossbow. And I mean,
- 2:19Speaker 4: just how it played out is it's still, still hasn't
- 2:22Speaker 4: hit me really.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Yeah. So, yeah, no. So I I've, I've known you
- 2:27Speaker 1: for a while here, Phil, and, uh, you've been on
- 2:29Speaker 1: a heater. Okay. I'm going to go ahead and say this.
- 2:30Speaker 2: You've been on a heater with big bucks and, uh,
- 2:33Speaker 2: you know, we stay in touch throughout the year. You're
- 2:35Speaker 2: sending me pictures and, uh, the last few times, like, Hey,
- 2:37Speaker 2: what do you think of this buck? And the next
- 2:38Speaker 2: thing I know, like a week later, the deer's dead. So, uh, you're,
- 2:42Speaker 2: you're a big buck killer. And I think anyone listening.
- 2:45Speaker 2: should pay attention to kind of this unique approach that
- 2:48Speaker 2: put it together because it's super cool. Yeah.
- 2:51Speaker 4: So, I mean, yeah, end of last year ended with
- 2:53Speaker 4: a bang, getting a big deer on the ground in
- 2:55Speaker 4: late season. And this year I was really hoping to
- 2:58Speaker 4: kill with my bow because I'm a bit of a,
- 3:01Speaker 4: I'm a bit of a killer with the gun. And
- 3:02Speaker 4: if you ask my buddies, everyone's like, oh yeah, he
- 3:04Speaker 4: just went gun season, you know, loves to kill with
- 3:06Speaker 4: the gun. I don't have a lot of big bucks
- 3:09Speaker 4: down with the bow that changed obviously on Friday.
- 3:12Speaker 3: But I would say, yeah, First thing is like, gotta
- 3:15Speaker 3: have a lot of properties.
- 3:16Speaker 4: And so like I spread myself and spread cameras over
- 3:19Speaker 4: a lot of farms and I'm not wasting time on
- 3:21Speaker 4: places that aren't, they don't have, um, what I'm looking for.
- 3:25Speaker 3: So this, this piece is unique.
- 3:27Speaker 4: Um, it is a lease and, uh, came across it, uh,
- 3:31Speaker 4: from the landowner of, I have two leases with the
- 3:34Speaker 4: same landowner and he basically was like, Hey, I own
- 3:37Speaker 4: another farm.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Uh, and I said, great. I'm very interested, was able
- 3:41Speaker 3: to get it leased quickly.
- 3:43Speaker 4: Get cams out and right away knew that there was,
- 3:46Speaker 4: I mean, three or four deer that I would shoot
- 3:47Speaker 4: on it right away. And so went for a bit
- 3:50Speaker 4: of an observation sit last Wednesday, kind of the beginning
- 3:53Speaker 4: of that cold front.
- 3:54Speaker 3: Wasn't really great yet.
- 3:56Speaker 4: Sat a inside corner field edge stand and did not
- 4:01Speaker 4: take good access looking back. Kind of learned quickly about
- 4:04Speaker 4: the property, but watched all the deer dump out from
- 4:07Speaker 4: the north of me and cut across this cut bean
- 4:09Speaker 4: field to this half cut, half standing cornfield, basically about
- 4:14Speaker 4: 400 yards away. And, you know, I got to looking
- 4:18Speaker 4: at it, snapped a picture of it from the tree stand.
- 4:21Speaker 4: And later that night, I was like, man, if I
- 4:22Speaker 4: could just tuck into that strip of standing corn right
- 4:25Speaker 4: there with the right.
- 4:25Speaker 3: Wind, like it's still a lot. It's always a long
- 4:28Speaker 3: shot until it happens. Right, Jake? It, you know, it
- 4:30Speaker 3: doesn't until it happens.
- 4:31Speaker 4: So I looked at the forecast, saw Friday coming, was like,
- 4:34Speaker 4: oh man, I got to clear the deck, baby.
- 4:36Speaker 3: That is the day to be there. Super windy.
- 4:39Speaker 4: Um, and then I have this buddy of mine who's
- 4:41Speaker 4: been pushing this mirror ghost blind on me and says,
- 4:44Speaker 4: you know, he's got to try this blind. So I
- 4:46Speaker 4: went to Blaine's and picked up a mirror ghost blind
- 4:49Speaker 4: and again, long shot, right? So I brushed into the
- 4:51Speaker 4: standing corn strip, had a stiff Northwest wind and the
- 4:55Speaker 4: deer just started dumping out of the timber and making
- 4:58Speaker 4: this long walk.
- 5:00Speaker 3: And, um, I probably saw 30 to 40 deer on.
- 5:04Speaker 4: Friday night and some deer, some does got uh, downwind
- 5:08Speaker 4: of me, unfortunately, and busted hard.
- 5:10Speaker 3: It's like, crap, this is there.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Right.
- 5:12Speaker 4: And, um, but for whatever reason, the bachelor group that
- 5:15Speaker 4: was behind them, probably about 200 yards did not bust
- 5:19Speaker 4: and they just kept coming. And, you know, we don't
- 5:21Speaker 4: usually see mature, mature bucks, like as the lead in
- 5:25Speaker 4: the bachelor group, but he was leading and he cut
- 5:27Speaker 4: it to came all the way in from 400 yards
- 5:29Speaker 4: to 23 yards. I stopped him slightly quartering too, and
- 5:33Speaker 4: just punched it through his front shoulder.
- 5:36Speaker 3: And immediately I'm like, oh, no, I hit him high.
- 5:38Speaker 4: Right.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Worst case scenario. I didn't hit him high.
- 5:40Speaker 4: He ran 50 yards, turned back around, did like a
- 5:43Speaker 4: little bit of that wobble, shaky look and then just crashed.
- 5:47Speaker 3: And man, I freaked out.
- 5:49Speaker 1: I lost it.
- 5:50Speaker 3: And the phone call started. The FaceTime started.
- 5:52Speaker 4: Always call my wife first and then FaceTime and the
- 5:55Speaker 4: buddies and a long shot came together.
- 5:59Speaker 3: It was insane.
- 6:02Speaker 2: That is really, really cool. From the ground with a
- 6:05Speaker 2: compound bow and staining corn. And so my question for
- 6:09Speaker 2: you is, why was it half-picked? Was it weather-related?
- 6:14Speaker 1: Farmer was busy.
- 6:15Speaker 2: What were some of the conditions that lined up so
- 6:18Speaker 2: perfectly for this?
- 6:19Speaker 3: I got to assume it was weather-related. I mean, we
- 6:21Speaker 3: had that rain that moved in, right?
- 6:22Speaker 4: I think we had rain Wednesday night into Thursday, and
- 6:26Speaker 4: it was just kind of a It's another message that
- 6:29Speaker 4: I'm learning here is like, take what the farm gives you.
- 6:31Speaker 4: And the farm gave me a half picked cornfield because
- 6:33Speaker 4: of the rain. I'm sure that farmer would have loved
- 6:35Speaker 4: to have gotten it all out, but it basically handed
- 6:37Speaker 4: me a ground blind that wouldn't be there. It's probably
- 6:40Speaker 4: already picked for all I know. And so, and then
- 6:44Speaker 4: not to mention, you know, after we got that deer
- 6:47Speaker 4: taken care of, I've been hoping to get my wife
- 6:49Speaker 4: her first deer and we've got other spots to go.
- 6:52Speaker 3: You know, we've got a farm of our own, thankfully,
- 6:55Speaker 3: but I was like, we got to get back in there.
- 6:56Speaker 4: I mean, this is the spot. We saw a ton
- 6:58Speaker 4: of deer. So my wife and I got back in
- 7:00Speaker 4: there the next day, next night. And we saw a
- 7:02Speaker 4: ton of deer, more deer than I saw. And she
- 7:05Speaker 4: was able to take a nice, uh, two-year-old eight pointer, um,
- 7:08Speaker 4: with her crossbow. And it was just, like I said,
- 7:11Speaker 4: it doesn't get any better.
- 7:14Speaker 1: That is so cool.
- 7:14Speaker 2: How, um, what was her reaction shooting her first buck?
- 7:18Speaker 2: And obviously you were there with her and like, what
- 7:20Speaker 2: an intense way to shoot your first buck to from
- 7:22Speaker 2: the ground, uh, behind, you know, a mirror, you know,
- 7:26Speaker 2: like so, so intense.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Of a hunt, man.
- 7:29Speaker 2: Okay.
- 7:29Speaker 3: I'm going to keep it real.
- 7:30Speaker 4: We love spending time together and it's like more, more,
- 7:33Speaker 4: more a thing of spending time together. And it was
- 7:35Speaker 4: our date night and we've got five kids under nine.
- 7:37Speaker 4: So she had so much fun having deer all around her. Uh,
- 7:41Speaker 4: so she had a blaster in that when, after she
- 7:44Speaker 4: pulled the trigger, uh, she wouldn't mind me saying that she,
- 7:47Speaker 4: she got a little sad.
- 7:48Speaker 3: So this might, she got a little sad about killing
- 7:51Speaker 3: the deer.
- 7:51Speaker 4: And so, uh, this might be her, her last year
- 7:54Speaker 4: that she shoots, but we had a blast together and
- 7:56Speaker 4: she had really enjoys coming with me. She's came with
- 7:58Speaker 4: me many, many, many times, but first time getting one down.
- 8:01Speaker 4: So we'll see TBD.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:05Speaker 2: I think that's, that's a fair, it is a, it's a,
- 8:08Speaker 2: it's a lot of emotions to process. Honestly, uh, even, even,
- 8:12Speaker 2: even for you, I'm sure you're emotional and like you still,
- 8:15Speaker 2: you know, it's just, it's a lot to process when
- 8:17Speaker 2: you work so hard and everything comes together.
- 8:19Speaker 1: It's just, It's an emotional and adrenaline dump.
- 8:22Speaker 2: That is very hard to describe. And obviously that's what
- 8:24Speaker 2: she got to experience for the, for the first time. So,
- 8:28Speaker 2: you know, you, one of the messages is, you know,
- 8:30Speaker 2: take what the farm will give you or take what
- 8:31Speaker 2: opportunities are in front of you and seize it. So
- 8:34Speaker 2: looking here over the next seven days, you know, the
- 8:38Speaker 2: 21st to the 28th, what opportunities do you see that
- 8:42Speaker 2: people could pay, you know, pay attention to or consider
- 8:45Speaker 2: as they plan out the, you know, the next week
- 8:46Speaker 2: of hunting? Yeah.
- 8:48Speaker 3: I mean, it's warm. Anybody who's looking at the same
- 8:50Speaker 3: forecast I am, it's warm.
- 8:52Speaker 4: We're looking at highs in the low 70s. And even
- 8:55Speaker 4: the lows are not that low. I'm seeing like mid
- 8:57Speaker 4: to high 40s for the lows. And so I'm not
- 9:00Speaker 4: saying you can't get it done in the morning. But
- 9:02Speaker 4: if I had two tags in my pocket and I
- 9:05Speaker 4: was just still ripping and roaring, I would be evenings
- 9:09Speaker 4: on food. And so hard to beat cut corn, honestly,
- 9:13Speaker 4: as I just saw. And I saw a ton of deer, Jake.
- 9:16Speaker 4: So I would say evenings on food sources are with
- 9:18Speaker 4: conservative access so that you're not ruining weeks to come
- 9:22Speaker 4: or even your hunt that night, I would take real
- 9:25Speaker 4: conservative access. And, um, I'm not a huge, um, observation,
- 9:30Speaker 4: sick guy, but after seeing and doing what I just did,
- 9:33Speaker 4: like I would be doing some scouting and glassing and
- 9:36Speaker 4: then seeing where deer coming out and taking conservative approaches
- 9:39Speaker 4: on food at night, you're going to see bucks bumping
- 9:42Speaker 4: does around more.
- 9:44Speaker 3: So the young bucks.
- 9:45Speaker 4: But, man, it's not before too long we're going to
- 9:48Speaker 4: have big boys in there pushing does around.
- 9:50Speaker 3: Could happen this week, probably more like next week.
- 9:58Speaker 2: Is there any day that sticks out to you that
- 9:59Speaker 2: you're most excited? about over the next seven days, 21st
- 10:01Speaker 2: to the 28th? Because it looks like maybe the barometric
- 10:08Speaker 2: pressure rises a little bit towards the 24th and 25th
- 10:13Speaker 2: and a little bit of a drop, like a tiny
- 10:15Speaker 2: bit of a drop on Tuesday the 27th and the 28th.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Is that enough to get you a little bit excited?
- 10:22Speaker 4: Oh, yeah. If I had two tags, I would be,
- 10:24Speaker 4: I mean, obviously it all depends on family, work, and
- 10:26Speaker 4: everything else, right? But if I didn't just scratch the edge,
- 10:29Speaker 4: we'll call it, I'd be out every night I could,
- 10:32Speaker 4: but conservatively. And yeah, it might be warm, but definitely
- 10:36Speaker 4: some high-pressure days. So we're not seeing like Magic X
- 10:39Speaker 4: stuff necessarily with that high-pressure temp drop that we had
- 10:42Speaker 4: Friday night. But if I wanted to go, and if
- 10:46Speaker 4: I was trying to kill a buck, I would absolutely
- 10:48Speaker 4: be hunting each evening over food.
- 10:51Speaker 3: Um, ideally cut corn if you got it. So.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I like it.
- 10:57Speaker 2: And then the, uh, most important question scale, scale one
- 11:00Speaker 2: to 10 over the next seven days, 10 being the
- 11:01Speaker 2: best week of the year, one being one of the worst,
- 11:04Speaker 2: where does it fall? Yeah.
- 11:06Speaker 3: So, okay.
- 11:06Speaker 4: I got a two part answer for you. I know
- 11:08Speaker 4: you love, you know, circumstantial answers. If you have Intel,
- 11:12Speaker 4: on a buck you want to shoot, a mature buck
- 11:15Speaker 4: moving in daylight, whether that's from like your own eyes
- 11:17Speaker 4: of scouting or like straight up trail camera pictures, a
- 11:20Speaker 4: 10 out of 10, if he's moving in daylight, like
- 11:22Speaker 4: why would you not go kill him if you can?
- 11:24Speaker 3: If you are.
- 11:25Speaker 4: Just taking, if you're like, oh, what are my spots
- 11:27Speaker 4: going to turn on? When are these deer going to
- 11:29Speaker 4: start moving? The cameras are slow. I would say five
- 11:32Speaker 4: out of 10, be conservative. Don't ruin the weeks to come.
- 11:37Speaker 4: There are better days to come. Scrape week coming up
- 11:40Speaker 4: next week. Uh, so I would say 10 out of 10,
- 11:42Speaker 4: if you have deer on, on camera in daylight, five
- 11:44Speaker 4: out of 10, if you're kind of in a spot
- 11:46Speaker 4: where you're playing wait and see game.
- 11:50Speaker 1: I love, I love that answer.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Well, Phil, I, uh, I always give people the opportunity
- 11:54Speaker 2: to get tracked down if they wanted to. Uh, is
- 11:56Speaker 2: there a way for people to reach out to you
- 11:58Speaker 2: if you want that?
- 11:59Speaker 4: I'll just link my email address, um, to you and
- 12:02Speaker 4: you can embed it however you want.
- 12:04Speaker 3: Um, but no, I'm not really on socials. Maybe I'll
- 12:05Speaker 3: start filming my hunts here. Seriously.
- 12:07Speaker 4: Although man, as bad as I want to be a
- 12:10Speaker 4: film guy, uh, I can't imagine doing anything else other
- 12:12Speaker 4: than like knocking on range finding in the moment.
- 12:15Speaker 3: I don't know how those guys do it.
- 12:19Speaker 2: I don't, I have the utmost respect for him because
- 12:21Speaker 2: there's so much for it to go for everything to
- 12:23Speaker 2: come together. And then you throw that into the mix,
- 12:25Speaker 2: but congratulations once again. And I assume you are a
- 12:29Speaker 2: firm believer of the ghost blind now.
- 12:32Speaker 4: Oh man, absolutely. It's another tool in the tool belt, man.
- 12:35Speaker 4: I will be busting it out later. I can see
- 12:37Speaker 4: it working really well in late season food sources too,
- 12:39Speaker 4: for sure.
- 12:40Speaker 2: So.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Well, congratulations once again, Phil.
- 12:45Speaker 3: Thanks, man. Appreciate you.
- 12:47Speaker 1: All right, next up we have Jordan Budd in Nebraska.
- 12:50Speaker 1: How's it going? Hey, Jake.
- 12:52Speaker 3: Doing good here.
- 12:53Speaker 5: It's kind of warm, but, yeah, better days are ahead.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Better days are ahead.
- 12:59Speaker 2: What was this last cold front this last weekend like
- 13:01Speaker 2: for you guys, for activity? Was it everything you guys
- 13:04Speaker 2: dreamed of or about what you expected, a little worse?
- 13:07Speaker 1: What did you see?
- 13:08Speaker 5: It was a– we don't have hunters in right now,
- 13:12Speaker 5: so I don't have like anybody out in the stands,
- 13:13Speaker 5: but cameras, you know, monitoring cameras activity was definitely up.
- 13:17Speaker 5: It's been so hot here that, um, even the bachelor
- 13:21Speaker 5: groups of bucks that I had early in September had,
- 13:24Speaker 5: I don't want to say they moved on, but they
- 13:27Speaker 5: were just not active like at all. And that, that
- 13:30Speaker 5: picked up activity a little bit in the daylight. Um,
- 13:33Speaker 5: but now we're back up into the seventies and it's
- 13:36Speaker 5: shut back somewhat shut back down again. But I think
- 13:39Speaker 5: that from here on it's just going to get better
- 13:41Speaker 5: every day.
- 13:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 13:43Speaker 1: So what's kind.
- 13:46Speaker 2: Of, if you had to jump in the brain of
- 13:48Speaker 2: a mature buck in Nebraska right now over the next
- 13:50Speaker 2: seven days, like what, how could someone intercept them with,
- 13:55Speaker 2: you know, it being a little bit more stagnant temperatures,
- 13:57Speaker 2: a little bit warmer, drier. What, what would you say
- 14:01Speaker 2: to anyone listening that's, you know, following similar conditions wherever
- 14:04Speaker 2: they're at in the country and maybe they have, you know,
- 14:07Speaker 2: this upcoming weekend they're available or maybe a couple of evenings.
- 14:09Speaker 1: What, what would be your game plan for them?
- 14:12Speaker 5: Yeah, I think it's all about trails and trying to
- 14:15Speaker 5: catch them close to here anyways. Uh, like edges of cornfields,
- 14:19Speaker 5: they'll be walking those edges and I still don't think
- 14:22Speaker 5: they want to get out and get like really exposed,
- 14:25Speaker 5: you know, but, um, but they're, they're still going to
- 14:29Speaker 5: get up and feed. So I think, as close as
- 14:31Speaker 5: you can get to like the corn edges and those
- 14:34Speaker 5: there's alfalfa out there now. So there's some of that
- 14:37Speaker 5: kind of stuff anywhere that's, I mean, just try to
- 14:40Speaker 5: catch them bedding to feeding really and hunt those edges.
- 14:44Speaker 5: Or if you know they're bedding and then they're going
- 14:46Speaker 5: into the feed that night right now, there's so much
- 14:50Speaker 5: standing corn. I think they go in there and lay
- 14:52Speaker 5: down and they don't, they don't really come back out.
- 14:55Speaker 5: So that, that makes it really tough. But if you
- 14:57Speaker 5: know that there's like a thick spot that they're bedding,
- 15:01Speaker 5: Try to get in there. Definitely make sure your wind's right.
- 15:04Speaker 5: I'm looking at the wind for the next week, and
- 15:05Speaker 5: it's kind of erratic, actually. But make sure you have
- 15:09Speaker 5: a good wind and get in there quiet. I would
- 15:12Speaker 5: try to get close because the shot that you're going
- 15:15Speaker 5: to get probably is going to be pretty late.
- 15:30Speaker 1: That's the challenge at this time of year.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Um, as far as rut sign getting laid down and,
- 15:36Speaker 2: and you can draw this from your show cameras, but
- 15:39Speaker 2: have you over the last, this last cold front, was
- 15:41Speaker 2: there any newcomers that showed up? Um, or have you
- 15:44Speaker 2: seen any sparring where they, you know, hammering the scrapes
- 15:47Speaker 2: at night?
- 15:48Speaker 5: Uh, some sparring with this cold front.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:50Speaker 5: Some sparring and bigger bucks sparring like with each other,
- 15:54Speaker 5: not just the little, you know, the little bucks have
- 15:56Speaker 5: kind of been messing with pushing each other around for
- 15:58Speaker 5: a while now, but. the bigger bucks, there's a little
- 16:01Speaker 5: bit of activity there. Um, I feel like those, that
- 16:05Speaker 5: group of deer that I had earlier that kind of,
- 16:08Speaker 5: I literally like for three weeks, I just didn't see them. Um, they,
- 16:13Speaker 5: they're back and they're like starting to hit same like
- 16:16Speaker 5: licking branches and stuff. Like they're just getting more consistent
- 16:18Speaker 5: on that. So that's another thing too, is get out
- 16:22Speaker 5: and try to find something like that, like, and sit
- 16:26Speaker 5: over that. Cause yeah, I mean, they might hit it
- 16:30Speaker 5: in the middle of the day. These bucks are hitting
- 16:31Speaker 5: it real late.
- 16:33Speaker 2: Late isn't like middle of the night late or like
- 16:35Speaker 2: right at shooting time.
- 16:37Speaker 5: Yeah, right at dark, like right after shooting time. And
- 16:40Speaker 5: then I really don't see them in the middle of
- 16:42Speaker 5: the night, so I don't know.
- 16:44Speaker 2: If you had to pick corner or alfalfa for this
- 16:47Speaker 2: upcoming week, knowing the conditions and temperature, if someone had
- 16:50Speaker 2: two different options, which one would you pick?
- 16:53Speaker 1: And we're going to break it down a little bit more.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Standing corn and freshly cut corn too.
- 16:58Speaker 1: So you have really kind of three options.
- 17:00Speaker 5: Freshly, freshly picked corn would be definitely, yeah, I think so.
- 17:05Speaker 5: And then I would, and then alfalfa is probably second.
- 17:08Speaker 5: Standing corn is just so hard. So, I mean, they
- 17:13Speaker 5: go in there and it's like they just shut a door.
- 17:16Speaker 5: Not a chance.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Where, where is Nebraska at where you're, you know, where
- 17:20Speaker 2: you're located in terms of, are they on time with harvest?
- 17:24Speaker 1: Are they behind harvest?
- 17:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:27Speaker 5: So we're in the Northwest corner. We're a little bit,
- 17:29Speaker 5: we're always a little later than like the Eastern guys. Um,
- 17:33Speaker 5: but there's people that are, they're starting now. And the
- 17:36Speaker 5: other thing to think about too, with corn, some people
- 17:38Speaker 5: might be chopping it like green chopping it this year
- 17:41Speaker 5: where they haven't before, just because of it's dry everywhere
- 17:45Speaker 5: and like feed that might, and corn's not worth anything
- 17:48Speaker 5: right now. So it might be worth more as silage.
- 17:50Speaker 5: So there's some of that going on too. They're getting
- 17:53Speaker 5: it out earlier. We're experiencing a a little bit of that.
- 17:57Speaker 5: And I think because of how dry it's been, it's,
- 18:00Speaker 5: I think that they're going to be getting it out
- 18:01Speaker 5: a little early earlier this year. Um, so yeah.
- 18:07Speaker 2: What would be your advice for someone that, um, they're
- 18:11Speaker 2: just like, man, I'm, I'm a little lost right now.
- 18:13Speaker 2: I know it's late October. I really need to get
- 18:15Speaker 2: my butt in gear. I need to get a game plan. Um,
- 18:18Speaker 2: what would be your action items for the next seven days?
- 18:21Speaker 2: Like hang camera, scout observation, hunt, uh, you know, give them,
- 18:26Speaker 2: give them a slap on the back and say, go tell.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Them what to do here.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:30Speaker 5: I think I would definitely get out and scout. And
- 18:33Speaker 5: even I love cameras. I run a ton of them,
- 18:37Speaker 5: but man, running a ton of them, you still miss
- 18:39Speaker 5: stuff all the time. I go out and sit and
- 18:41Speaker 5: I'm just like, Holy cow. I haven't seen that deer before. And, uh,
- 18:45Speaker 5: you know, right in the same area, they're just walking
- 18:47Speaker 5: on the other side of the tree probably. Um, So yeah,
- 18:50Speaker 5: I think, especially where you can actually hunt now, like
- 18:53Speaker 5: you can have your tag and bow in hand. I
- 18:56Speaker 5: would get out there and at least scout, like you
- 18:58Speaker 5: could do observation sits, but, um, I think this time
- 19:01Speaker 5: of year, especially like, you know, obey your wind and
- 19:07Speaker 5: try to be cautious of that.
- 19:09Speaker 3: But it, I don't know.
- 19:10Speaker 5: It's just going to, it's just going to get, it's
- 19:12Speaker 5: just going to start getting better. I've last year, I
- 19:15Speaker 5: was so, I was really hunting a buck hard and
- 19:18Speaker 5: I was so down and out this time of year
- 19:20Speaker 5: last year because I'm like he's only going at night
- 19:23Speaker 5: and I'm still doing I'm still sitting and like hunting
- 19:26Speaker 5: really hard but it's and then it seemed like that
- 19:29Speaker 5: last two three days of October it just was like
- 19:33Speaker 5: a light switch it just like he started daylighting and
- 19:37Speaker 5: just moving so some of it's patience but it's also
- 19:40Speaker 5: like there's a lot of people that have a lot
- 19:43Speaker 5: of things going on and you also have to take
- 19:45Speaker 5: advantage of the time you have And not just sit
- 19:47Speaker 5: there and overanalyze... weather.
- 19:52Speaker 1: Everyone is guilty of that.
- 19:53Speaker 2: Everyone becomes a meteorologist and can read deer's mind this
- 19:59Speaker 2: time of year or feel like they can at all
- 20:01Speaker 2: and it gets demoralizing. And so I think there's a
- 20:05Speaker 2: lot of truth to what you just said, though. It's
- 20:07Speaker 2: like this could be either... a really, really fruitful, you know,
- 20:10Speaker 2: seven day period for someone that has a deer, the
- 20:13Speaker 2: right food source, maybe the right scrape. And even though
- 20:16Speaker 2: the weather is not perfect, it could be a great
- 20:18Speaker 2: opportunity to connect with one. If you're not in that camp,
- 20:21Speaker 2: I anticipate these next seven days to be a little
- 20:23Speaker 2: frustrating to where, you know, you feel like you're just
- 20:25Speaker 2: throwing stuff at the wall and it's not sticking. And
- 20:28Speaker 2: in your neck of the woods, what is your favorite
- 20:32Speaker 2: period of time? So for people that are like, man,
- 20:35Speaker 2: I'm probably the latter of the the two where I'm
- 20:37Speaker 2: throwing stuff at the wall and it's not sticking.
- 20:39Speaker 1: You're telling me things are going to get better. When
- 20:40Speaker 1: is that for you?
- 20:42Speaker 5: I think, well, for us, it's, I mean, just November,
- 20:45Speaker 5: you know, I would say that first through the fifth,
- 20:49Speaker 5: we've had some really good luck. Recently in Nebraska, you
- 20:53Speaker 5: have a rifle season that runs right during the rut.
- 20:56Speaker 5: So I feel like last year we actually tried, usually
- 21:00Speaker 5: we don't even try calling that period. It's so open here.
- 21:03Speaker 5: that we just don't have any issues with rifle season.
- 21:06Speaker 5: But last year I had a new guide come guide
- 21:10Speaker 5: for me and he took, he took rattling antlers and
- 21:14Speaker 5: they had a crazy time. And that was, that timeframe
- 21:19Speaker 5: was like right in the middle of November, probably 15th
- 21:21Speaker 5: through the 18th right in there. But they had crazy luck.
- 21:27Speaker 5: But I, I like for our archery hunters anyways, that
- 21:30Speaker 5: like November 5th ish is just, I don't know. It
- 21:34Speaker 5: just seems like we get right at the end of October,
- 21:36Speaker 5: we'll get some new bucks moving through and they'll be
- 21:39Speaker 5: running a scrape line and really consistent.
- 21:42Speaker 3: And that's, I like.
- 21:43Speaker 1: That a lot too.
- 21:44Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Which I think, um, another action item for this timeframe
- 21:48Speaker 2: is if you have your cameras, make sure they're dialed,
- 21:50Speaker 2: make sure you have batteries and they're about to die,
- 21:53Speaker 2: go in and switch them out.
- 21:55Speaker 5: Dude, that's on my list.
- 21:57Speaker 1: I read your mind.
- 21:58Speaker 2: And so like the next, the next, uh, I would say,
- 22:00Speaker 2: you know, two weeks of Intel, uh, is going to
- 22:04Speaker 2: set up your November. You could feel really frustrated if
- 22:08Speaker 2: your camera dies three days from now and you're like,
- 22:11Speaker 2: I don't know, I don't think I missed much. To
- 22:13Speaker 2: your point, what shows up is probably going to be
- 22:15Speaker 2: running around in November and you got to know what
- 22:17Speaker 2: shows up.
- 22:18Speaker 5: Yeah, at least around here. I mean, it's pretty slow, September, October,
- 22:22Speaker 5: until we get, like I said, to that last little
- 22:26Speaker 5: bit of October and then we get new bucks show
- 22:27Speaker 5: up and they start spreading out. And I think now
- 22:30Speaker 5: this year, if they start getting corn out a little early, well,
- 22:33Speaker 5: that's just going to disperse everything a little bit quicker
- 22:35Speaker 5: or more. And, um, yeah, it's, it's a time to be,
- 22:40Speaker 5: you need to be on it.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:41Speaker 1: Get, get dialed. One question I have for, you know, so,
- 22:45Speaker 1: you know, cutting the corn.
- 22:46Speaker 2: For grain, you know, I assume there's, you know, there's spillage. Uh,
- 22:49Speaker 2: I was out in Nebraska, a handful, a lot of
- 22:50Speaker 2: gleaners out there. It's a different farm, a farm country. Uh,
- 22:54Speaker 2: but And then also, so you have that style of
- 22:57Speaker 2: harvesting corn and then the other of getting it for,
- 23:00Speaker 2: you know, cattle.
- 23:02Speaker 3: It's like a silage.
- 23:03Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 23:04Speaker 2: Is it, is it different of how the deer interact
- 23:06Speaker 2: with that type of harvest with, with corn?
- 23:08Speaker 1: Does that make sense?
- 23:09Speaker 5: Yeah, I know you're, I know what you're talking about.
- 23:11Speaker 5: I wouldn't think it'd be that much different cause they're
- 23:14Speaker 5: still picking up kernels of whatever's dropped. Like there's going
- 23:19Speaker 5: to be a little bit of waste no matter what. And, um,
- 23:23Speaker 5: That's a really good question. I haven't had like, they
- 23:26Speaker 5: pretty much pick all the corn around here. Um, instead
- 23:30Speaker 5: of like, yeah, doing the green chop stuff. I think
- 23:33Speaker 5: that there's just going to be waste no matter what.
- 23:34Speaker 5: And the deer picking up those kernels. So I'm not
- 23:36Speaker 5: sure that there, there would be any real difference.
- 23:39Speaker 1: Got it. Got it. Well, okay.
- 23:41Speaker 2: So scale one to 10 over the next seven days,
- 23:44Speaker 2: 21st to the 28th of October in Northwest Nebraska, 10
- 23:47Speaker 2: being the best week of the year. One being one
- 23:49Speaker 2: of the worst weeks of the year.
- 23:51Speaker 1: Where does it, where's it at?
- 23:53Speaker 5: I bet we're going to hit a six probably. It's
- 23:57Speaker 5: for the 21st or the 23rd, it's supposed to be
- 23:59Speaker 5: real hot, 70 to 80 degrees every day. And then
- 24:02Speaker 5: we're going to get a little shift down into the 50s,
- 24:07Speaker 5: which will probably help. But man, our cold temperatures, they're
- 24:11Speaker 5: just not, they're just not here. Like our, you know,
- 24:15Speaker 5: the lowest in that timeframe is still mid 30s. It'll
- 24:18Speaker 5: be lower on the river bottom, but up high, I mean,
- 24:21Speaker 5: that's not, freezing, obviously. So that's interesting too. It's like,
- 24:27Speaker 5: it's not really getting cold, but I just think the
- 24:30Speaker 5: overall drop in temperature is going to help movement a
- 24:34Speaker 5: little bit. Um, and I don't know when it's really,
- 24:37Speaker 5: really cold. I'm not sure that that makes a huge
- 24:40Speaker 5: difference either sometimes. So I don't know.
- 24:45Speaker 1: Are you going to be out hunting and scouting over
- 24:47Speaker 1: the next seven days? Like, is that your personal plan?
- 24:49Speaker 5: Yeah. Once this, uh, once, once it drops off a
- 24:53Speaker 5: little bit, we're supposed to get a little rain shower
- 24:55Speaker 5: coming through. And once it goes down to those fifties, yeah,
- 24:58Speaker 5: I'll bump things up a little bit. I want to go, uh,
- 25:01Speaker 5: hang some more cameras. I need to go check. Like
- 25:04Speaker 5: we just run mostly lock-ons. I need to go check
- 25:07Speaker 5: lock-on straps and just kind of get that, get that
- 25:10Speaker 5: thing set. Um, make any movements. That's kind of what
- 25:13Speaker 5: I like to do. We don't take any hunters, um, until,
- 25:17Speaker 5: that November timeframe, kind of that early November, it's just
- 25:19Speaker 5: when we get the most activity, it's easiest to keep
- 25:22Speaker 5: people in the tree that time of year. It's hard
- 25:24Speaker 5: keeping people going right now. And, uh, so yeah, we
- 25:29Speaker 5: saved that till November. So I'll get, I'll get some
- 25:32Speaker 5: more cameras up probably today, tomorrow, start looking at what
- 25:36Speaker 5: that is looking like just for deer movement and stuff,
- 25:39Speaker 5: make any stand changes I need to. And then we're
- 25:41Speaker 5: pretty much, we're locked in, but I'm, yeah, I'm glassing
- 25:44Speaker 5: every morning and every evening until then.
- 25:45Speaker 1: I love it.
- 25:47Speaker 2: Jordan, where can people follow along with your season and
- 25:50Speaker 2: reach out or have any questions? And maybe they want
- 25:52Speaker 2: to hunt Nebraska.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:54Speaker 5: Just Instagram at jordan.bud. Throw me on there. We're on
- 25:59Speaker 5: Facebook as well. And our outfit is Running Water Hunting
- 26:01Speaker 5: here in Northwest Nebraska.
- 26:03Speaker 1: Awesome. Well, good luck to you and good luck to
- 26:05Speaker 1: all your hunters. I appreciate it.
- 26:07Speaker 2: Cool. Thanks, Jake. All right.
- 26:08Speaker 1: Next up, we have Josh Henson down in Texas.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Josh, Texas is a ginormous state, only second to Alaska
- 26:16Speaker 2: in size.
- 26:17Speaker 1: Where about in Texas are you?
- 26:19Speaker 6: So I'm west of the Dallas-Fort Worth region. So north
- 26:23Speaker 6: central Texas.
- 26:25Speaker 1: Okay.
- 26:27Speaker 6: About 30 miles west of DFW.
- 26:33Speaker 1: Okay. Okay.
- 26:34Speaker 2: So we're kind of recapping this cold front this last weekend.
- 26:40Speaker 2: It almost felt like a playoff game. It was the
- 26:43Speaker 2: first cold front of October that, you know, it's just
- 26:47Speaker 2: to the point where it's getting really exciting. I think
- 26:49Speaker 2: some people got overly, overly excited. There's going to be
- 26:51Speaker 2: guests here on today that had a lot of success
- 26:54Speaker 2: throughout this weekend, but you know, expectations versus reality. Where
- 26:58Speaker 2: did this last front land for you?
- 27:00Speaker 6: And it did everything that we needed it to do.
- 27:04Speaker 6: Big 30, 30 plus degree temperature swing downward North winds. Just,
- 27:12Speaker 6: high winds, knocked a lot of acorns down, everything that
- 27:15Speaker 6: we needed it to do.
- 27:16Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 27:17Speaker 6: The deer didn't do their job. I didn't do mine,
- 27:19Speaker 6: but I'm not going to be one of those people
- 27:21Speaker 6: with a success story, unfortunately.
- 27:23Speaker 1: That's okay.
- 27:24Speaker 2: I hunted this weekend and I did not connect either,
- 27:27Speaker 2: so don't feel bad.
- 27:28Speaker 1: But man, it was good.
- 27:30Speaker 2: It felt so good to be out there with that
- 27:32Speaker 2: cold front and seeing some bucks do what they're supposed
- 27:34Speaker 2: to do. And it's a fun time to run show cameras.
- 27:37Speaker 2: I'm curious, from a deer observation standpoint, what did you
- 27:41Speaker 2: see them doing uh, in the DFW area of Texas? Um,
- 27:45Speaker 2: are they laying down some sign? What, what kind of
- 27:50Speaker 2: was your observation?
- 27:52Speaker 6: Pretty good bed to food pattern, uh, primarily, um, not
- 27:57Speaker 6: as much nighttime movement as I expected, uh, but definitely
- 28:01Speaker 6: starting to open up scrapes. I found, uh, two or
- 28:05Speaker 6: three really good scrapes that were dug down six inches
- 28:08Speaker 6: into the ground and found some new really big, big
- 28:14Speaker 6: buck rubs yesterday afternoon as I was going around checking
- 28:18Speaker 6: my spots, filling feeders, changing batteries and stuff like that.
- 28:21Speaker 6: So definitely, definitely starting to lay down some more signs.
- 28:24Speaker 6: So love to see that.
- 28:26Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 28:27Speaker 2: What kind of acorns are dropping in that And do
- 28:31Speaker 2: you know what type.
- 28:32Speaker 1: Of oak tree they are? I'm just curious.
- 28:33Speaker 6: So right now.
- 28:34Speaker 1: Because you sent a picture. They look tiny, like the
- 28:36Speaker 1: world's tiniest little acorns. Yeah, yeah.
- 28:38Speaker 6: So we have a lot of post oaks in this area.
- 28:41Speaker 6: It's primarily post oak and live oak. Post oaks are
- 28:45Speaker 6: starting to shed a lot of really small acorns. I'm
- 28:49Speaker 6: not sure if it's really a drop or if it's
- 28:51Speaker 6: more of aborted acorns from this drought that we had.
- 28:55Speaker 6: that are just now starting to get dry enough to
- 28:57Speaker 6: fall out. Um, but primarily, uh, I do have a
- 29:01Speaker 6: couple of white oak trees on the property that are
- 29:03Speaker 6: starting to trickle down just a little bit. Um, but
- 29:06Speaker 6: I just, I don't know if it's really, if they're
- 29:08Speaker 6: dropping yet or if it's just due to the wind
- 29:10Speaker 6: event that we had.
- 29:11Speaker 2: So, um, what, um, like here, here in the Midwest,
- 29:18Speaker 2: I would say there's a lot of sun getting laid down, uh,
- 29:21Speaker 2: you know, scrapes, rubs, bucks sparring. Um, What stage would
- 29:26Speaker 2: you say the deer are at in Texas right now?
- 29:30Speaker 2: I mean, they're not bachelored up at all, I would assume.
- 29:35Speaker 6: Well, I'm actually I'm actually watching a group of about
- 29:39Speaker 6: six bachelor bucks that are still together primarily. And from
- 29:44Speaker 6: everything that I can tell, I have two large deer,
- 29:47Speaker 6: big bucks that are what I would consider to be
- 29:49Speaker 6: target deer that seem like they're kind of still satelliting
- 29:52Speaker 6: around the bachelor group. Um, both mornings, Saturday morning, as
- 29:57Speaker 6: well as yesterday morning, as I was sitting in the tree,
- 29:59Speaker 6: I could hear, uh, bucks sparring in the distance. Uh,
- 30:04Speaker 6: in one scenario, they're actually very close to me and
- 30:06Speaker 6: came in and sparred in front of me a little bit. Um,
- 30:09Speaker 6: so they're just, they're starting to size each other up.
- 30:11Speaker 6: The big bucks are starting to put on a little
- 30:13Speaker 6: bit of mass in their neck. Um, so they're, they're
- 30:15Speaker 6: definitely getting ready. They're feeling a little frisky.
- 30:19Speaker 1: I like it.
- 30:19Speaker 2: And so looking here over the next seven days, we
- 30:21Speaker 2: just came off this, you know, incredible October cold front
- 30:24Speaker 2: that though we've all been waiting for this this past
- 30:27Speaker 2: weekend with this cold front. Looking at the weather here,
- 30:31Speaker 2: looking somewhat more stable, what's your take here over the
- 30:36Speaker 2: next seven days? What's your strategy for someone listening that's
- 30:39Speaker 2: in the south and maybe they got a couple clues
- 30:42Speaker 2: during this last cold front, but they still feel like
- 30:45Speaker 2: they need some action items to consider, just to put
- 30:49Speaker 2: together a game plan for the next weekend?
- 30:51Speaker 1: Or later this week?
- 30:52Speaker 6: Uh, next seven days, uh, looking at it here, I think, uh,
- 30:56Speaker 6: with the lows being in the low fifties highs here
- 30:59Speaker 6: being anywhere from 80 to 85, I'm actually kind of
- 31:03Speaker 6: excited to see that more mild transition. Um, because right now, uh,
- 31:08Speaker 6: with the bed to food pattern being so consistent, uh,
- 31:12Speaker 6: I think that that mild temperature is going to kind
- 31:14Speaker 6: of extend that a little bit and keep, keep the
- 31:16Speaker 6: deer a little bit more predictable and killable. So I
- 31:19Speaker 6: think that, uh, Well, for me, I mean, this week's
- 31:22Speaker 6: my anniversary shout out to my wife. So, and then
- 31:25Speaker 6: next week's Halloween, I got a three-year-old. So for me, uh,
- 31:29Speaker 6: it's not looking like the greatest odds just due to
- 31:31Speaker 6: personal stuff. But I think that over the next seven days,
- 31:34Speaker 6: I think a lot of people are going to have
- 31:35Speaker 6: good opportunities at very predictable deer. Um, after that, who
- 31:39Speaker 6: knows what that.
- 31:41Speaker 2: Yeah. So would you say primarily, uh, evening hunts, um,
- 31:47Speaker 2: In transition to a food source or on a food
- 31:49Speaker 2: source is going to be someone's best bet.
- 31:50Speaker 6: Yeah, definitely. Travel corridors in between bed and food, definitely,
- 31:56Speaker 6: definitely in the evening. I think being on the food
- 31:59Speaker 6: in most scenarios, it's going to be tough to kill
- 32:00Speaker 6: them in the evenings just because they're going to be
- 32:02Speaker 6: staged up and they're going to wait until dark to
- 32:05Speaker 6: come into that big, hot food source. But mornings, you know,
- 32:09Speaker 6: a lot of people don't like to hunt these mornings
- 32:11Speaker 6: in October. If the wind's right and you can get
- 32:14Speaker 6: in there good and get out good, I don't ever
- 32:17Speaker 6: shy away from hunting in the morning in October.
- 32:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I think the big thing, this is my opinion
- 32:23Speaker 2: projecting here, but it comes down to how good is
- 32:25Speaker 2: your access for that morning hunt. I think it could
- 32:27Speaker 2: be good if you have good access, just like you said.
- 32:31Speaker 2: For everyone listening, that's a little bit curious. So for
- 32:34Speaker 2: that region of Texas, when would you say is the
- 32:38Speaker 2: peak rut, the peak rut activity, I should say, not
- 32:41Speaker 2: necessarily the actual peak date of breeding, but if you
- 32:44Speaker 2: were to schedule off a couple of days of work,
- 32:47Speaker 2: you know, just looking at a calendar for you, what is,
- 32:50Speaker 2: what are some of those dates?
- 32:51Speaker 6: Uh, I think for me, um, I think I'd be
- 32:55Speaker 6: looking to extend a long period of time off that
- 32:59Speaker 6: I'm already going to have. Um, so, uh, our peak
- 33:03Speaker 6: rut generally speaking is somewhere in the third or fourth
- 33:07Speaker 6: week of November, uh, into the first and second week
- 33:11Speaker 6: of December here. So I'm going to be looking to
- 33:14Speaker 6: get in there, schedule some time off just before just
- 33:17Speaker 6: after Thanksgiving to extend the overall period of time that
- 33:21Speaker 6: I'm going to have off with my recognized holidays. So
- 33:24Speaker 6: that's that's what I'd be looking at doing. I'm planning
- 33:27Speaker 6: on I'm planning on getting pretty much the entire last
- 33:30Speaker 6: week in November is going to be when I'm going
- 33:34Speaker 6: to I'm not going to be in this office.
- 33:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I like it. I like it.
- 33:39Speaker 2: OK, so then all that considered scale one to 10.
- 33:43Speaker 2: Over the next seven days, 21st to the 28th, 10
- 33:47Speaker 2: being the best week of the year, 1 being one
- 33:49Speaker 2: of the worst weeks of the year, where do you
- 33:50Speaker 2: rate this next week for where you're at?
- 33:53Speaker 6: I'm going to say probably with the temperatures as mild
- 33:57Speaker 6: as they are, I'm going to say probably like a 6,
- 34:02Speaker 6: maybe a 7. Just kind of going to depend on
- 34:04Speaker 6: what the wind does and how much rain and cloud
- 34:07Speaker 6: cover we get. But it's definitely not gangbusters, but it's
- 34:11Speaker 6: a really good sign to be in the woods.
- 34:14Speaker 2: Yeah. Before, before all chaos ensues, capitalize on some, some
- 34:18Speaker 2: form of a pattern. And, um, I mean, gosh, we're,
- 34:21Speaker 2: we're already two thirds of the way over with October.
- 34:24Speaker 2: And by the time the next rough, fresh episode comes out,
- 34:26Speaker 2: it'll be the end of October. So it's flying by.
- 34:28Speaker 2: So go, go take, go throw some hunts out there. Uh, Josh,
- 34:32Speaker 2: if people want to track you down, where is the
- 34:34Speaker 2: best place to do that?
- 34:35Speaker 6: Probably Instagram. Uh, my name on Instagram is just Josh
- 34:37Speaker 6: Henson and there's only one H in the middle. Instead
- 34:40Speaker 6: of having an H at the end of Josh and
- 34:42Speaker 6: an H at the beginning of Henson, it's just one
- 34:44Speaker 6: H in the middle. 20-year-old me thought that was cool,
- 34:46Speaker 6: so we're just riding with it. Feel free to check
- 34:49Speaker 6: it out.
- 34:50Speaker 1: I love it, Josh. Well, thank you so much. Good
- 34:52Speaker 1: luck the rest of the season, and happy anniversary. Thanks, Jake.
- 34:55Speaker 1: You too, man. All right, there you guys have it.
- 34:57Speaker 2: I hope you guys enjoyed this week's episode of Refresh
- 35:00Speaker 2: once again. If you'd like to jump on here, we're
- 35:01Speaker 2: trying to represent as many states as possible. Shoot me
- 35:04Speaker 2: a message on Instagram at Jake Hofer and look forward
- 35:07Speaker 2: to everyone's success as we march through the tail end
- 35:10Speaker 2: of October.
- 35:11Speaker 1: It's crazy.
- 35:12Speaker 2: The month is wrapping up and when we flip that calendar,
- 35:15Speaker 2: it's going to be November and game time. But hopefully
- 35:18Speaker 2: you have a buck and hopefully you listen to Phil's
- 35:20Speaker 2: advice because I think his two pronged approach to the
- 35:22Speaker 2: one to 10 scale rating is a perfect way to
- 35:25Speaker 2: summarize a potential strategy that makes the most sense for
- 35:29Speaker 2: the next seven days.
- 35:30Speaker 1: We'll see you next Wednesday.
