- 0:21Speaker 2: Do we have one host today? Two hosts? Three hosts?
- 0:23Speaker 2: Two knows? But who knows? We got two? Uh so far,
- 0:30Speaker 2: so far to be determined. All right, I'm Dan Lombardo.
- 0:35Speaker 2: I'm one of your hosts with me as always, I
- 0:37Speaker 2: could say, as always, it's you're always well. Yeah, Daniel,
- 0:44Speaker 2: the one, the only Daniel.
- 0:47Speaker 3: I hit the buttons. That's why you hit the buttons,
- 0:49Speaker 3: and I hit the wrong button at the beginning.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Daniel, Daniel Reyes and his magic fingers.
- 0:54Speaker 3: Oh wow, fingers.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Well, you know, Daniel, we spent those two nights together
- 1:02Speaker 2: on Long Island and just never forget it, the way
- 1:08Speaker 2: you ran your fingers through my click on beard.
- 1:13Speaker 3: That's right, that's right. Oh man, that's a that's gonna
- 1:19Speaker 3: have to be a premium episode one of these nights that.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Hey've been man, all right, I mean I'm feeling a
- 1:27Speaker 2: little better than I was last week. My voice is
- 1:29Speaker 2: still a little, uh a little on the rasty side. Yeah,
- 1:33Speaker 2: still coughing, but not as much.
- 1:35Speaker 3: So good.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Good, you know that's good. Feel a little better. How
- 1:40Speaker 2: about you I'm good.
- 1:42Speaker 3: I'm good. It's been a it's been a busy week,
- 1:45Speaker 3: but uh but good stuff. Yeah, and you hear back on.
- 1:49Speaker 3: My big contest should find out the end of the month,
- 1:53Speaker 3: so yeah, I'm excited about that. Hey, look who decided
- 1:56Speaker 3: to show up?
- 1:57Speaker 2: Well well well well yeah, holy holy cow, Dan, you
- 2:03Speaker 2: look at that thing. You want to run your magic fingers?
- 2:05Speaker 4: I know, wow wha yeah, heck did I miss you?
- 2:10Speaker 3: Didn't miss anything, baby, Okay.
- 2:13Speaker 4: Do you want to hear my excuse?
- 2:14Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 2:16Speaker 4: No, I by. We had a power surge yesterday. The
- 2:19Speaker 4: lights flickered and I didn't really think anything of it,
- 2:21Speaker 4: and I sat down the computer here, you know, ten
- 2:23Speaker 4: minutes ago, and I'm like, I want my computer turn on.
- 2:26Speaker 4: Oh god, we had a power surge yesterday.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Oh no, oh no, And I'm.
- 2:30Speaker 4: So I plugged in my phone real quick and my
- 2:32Speaker 4: phone was acting up on my crap. So I went
- 2:35Speaker 4: to the ups and it was tripped. That was it.
- 2:40Speaker 4: Uninterrupt power supply was tripped. So I hit the button
- 2:43Speaker 4: and it's like, oh, my computer turned back on. Okay,
- 2:48Speaker 4: So I I had screaming at this thing. You gotta
- 2:50Speaker 4: you gotta work because they're gonna fire me.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Oh god, I had something similar. I forgot to charge
- 2:57Speaker 2: the Oh nice. So where we're hovering, we're hovering around
- 3:01Speaker 2: ten percent right now. Yeah, I got it plugged in.
- 3:05Speaker 2: I've got the I've got the phone plugged in as
- 3:07Speaker 2: a backup, because you know, I didn't charge that either,
- 3:11Speaker 2: so I may have to switch at some point. And unrelated,
- 3:15Speaker 2: you know, the key fob to the shuttlecraft is acting up,
- 3:20Speaker 2: so the well, yeah, the back door will just open,
- 3:25Speaker 2: uh sometimes on its own. So if you detect a
- 3:29Speaker 2: sudden decompression and can I get blown out into space?
- 3:33Speaker 3: Hold on, just mute, just mute me. We've been talking
- 3:36Speaker 3: about like stroking each other's beards, and now the back
- 3:39Speaker 3: doors all of a sudden just popping up. What is
- 3:42Speaker 3: going on? What is going on with this show today?
- 3:46Speaker 2: Getting blown out into space?
- 3:47Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 3:48Speaker 4: Well, oh no, okay, have you guys done the intro yet?
- 3:54Speaker 3: Because yeah, I kind of whatever.
- 3:58Speaker 4: Enough because I'm ready to.
- 4:03Speaker 3: That's right, that's right. Uh So on this episode, just
- 4:07Speaker 3: to let people know, we're gonna be talking about am
- 4:11Speaker 3: I the Asshole from Reddit.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Apparently right here?
- 4:15Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, So on Reddit there's a forum called
- 4:21Speaker 3: am I the Asshole Basically, people put up their stories
- 4:24Speaker 3: of situations going on, and they asked the Internet are
- 4:27Speaker 3: they in the wrong or and they in the right
- 4:29Speaker 3: in this situation? And people render judgment. So there's a
- 4:33Speaker 3: few Star Trek based ones. So I figured we could
- 4:36Speaker 3: share our opinions.
- 4:38Speaker 2: For the for the people, for the people who are
- 4:40Speaker 2: pressed for time today, I'm gonna give them the cliff
- 4:42Speaker 2: Notes version. Richard always the asshole.
- 4:46Speaker 3: That's right, that's right, every time, every time. All right, Well,
- 4:52Speaker 3: with that, let's let's get into the news and then
- 4:55Speaker 3: we'll we'll get into the main topic.
- 4:57Speaker 2: All right, Star Trek news.
- 5:02Speaker 3: All right, So our first news story comes to us
- 5:05Speaker 3: from Engadget, and we're learning a little bit more about
- 5:11Speaker 3: Star Trek Stranger in the World season three. Apparently in
- 5:15Speaker 3: Gadget was one of the few websites to get an
- 5:18Speaker 3: early access to the first few episodes. So they've seen
- 5:22Speaker 3: them and they gave us a review and basically it's
- 5:27Speaker 3: it's still good, but you'll notice a dip from season two,
- 5:31Speaker 3: is what they're saying. Yeah, they got to see.
- 5:35Speaker 4: We noticed in season two from season one, what I thought.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Yeah, so they got to see the first five episodes.
- 5:42Speaker 3: They said, one of the other things they point out
- 5:45Speaker 3: is you can very clearly tell that they loved the
- 5:49Speaker 3: musical episode and they got excited, and they did something
- 5:53Speaker 3: in one of the early episodes for season three that
- 5:57Speaker 3: you will very clearly know it's from the musical episode.
- 6:00Speaker 2: So great, great, yeah, so just just like they're they're
- 6:07Speaker 2: in season three. But you know by episode count, if
- 6:12Speaker 2: you line those episodes up with uh, you know, Golden
- 6:16Speaker 2: Age Star Trek, they're at the end of season.
- 6:18Speaker 3: One right roughly, so yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:25Speaker 4: Or if you line it up by how many years
- 6:27Speaker 4: have gone by, they're in season four.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Yeah, m hmmm.
- 6:32Speaker 2: So yeah, so your guess is.
- 6:37Speaker 4: Right exactly. Well, what did a Strange New World's premiere?
- 6:43Speaker 3: Oh, god, like eighteen years ago.
- 6:44Speaker 4: It feels like it feels like it's been a while.
- 6:47Speaker 3: Yeah, it's been a bit. It's been a bit. So yeah.
- 6:51Speaker 3: And and you know, my my concern is that we've
- 6:54Speaker 3: gone from strange New Worlds to strange new outfits and
- 6:57Speaker 3: they're not exploring, they're just having comical situations.
- 7:00Speaker 4: Yeah. I'm actually rewatching Stranger World season two right now.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I just finished them.
- 7:07Speaker 4: Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow the time, the time travel episode. Okay,
- 7:12Speaker 4: you know, I forgot that's a good Yeah, there's some
- 7:15Speaker 4: good there's some good time in the like the first
- 7:18Speaker 4: watch the first three or four episodes, and there's some
- 7:20Speaker 4: good stuff in there. It really is.
- 7:23Speaker 2: That episode was good, but it could it could have
- 7:25Speaker 2: been so much better. I think I talked about it
- 7:27Speaker 2: the last time. If she came back with Kirk's baby
- 7:29Speaker 2: and her.
- 7:30Speaker 4: Belly, yeah, or it didn't take place in Canada, Okay,
- 7:37Speaker 4: that's right.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Eh, So I just want to point out to our
- 7:41Speaker 2: Canadian viewers, Uh, the opinions expressed by the host cast
- 7:45Speaker 2: are not necessarily the opinions of truck cast.
- 7:49Speaker 3: That's right, that's right.
- 7:51Speaker 4: Well, yeah, it's like those time travel episodes. They either
- 7:55Speaker 4: go to San Francisco, La or Vancouver. All the places
- 8:01Speaker 4: they shoot, all the places they shoot.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Well, here's a little here's the thing. How many times?
- 8:05Speaker 2: How many of times have they shot Vancouver for something else?
- 8:10Speaker 2: Let him shoot Vancouver for Vancouver for once? Yeah?
- 8:13Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, fair enough?
- 8:16Speaker 4: All right?
- 8:17Speaker 3: And then our next doing the story comes to us
- 8:20Speaker 3: from slashfilm dot com and they got to interview Ethan
- 8:26Speaker 3: beck Start or Spock three point zero, and we got
- 8:30Speaker 3: to he talked a little bit about what separates his
- 8:32Speaker 3: Spock from Leonard Nimoy. It's a pretty decent interview. But
- 8:36Speaker 3: one of the yeah, right, that that's gonna do it
- 8:41Speaker 3: right there in eighty years. But he but he said,
- 8:44Speaker 3: one of the things is he's brought a competic quality
- 8:47Speaker 3: to Spock that I play in strangers worlds. I think
- 8:51Speaker 3: they have found that I might have an aptitude for
- 8:54Speaker 3: these kinds of uncomfortable situations. And I think the writers
- 8:57Speaker 3: just tried to put me as the actor playing Spock
- 9:00Speaker 3: in uncomfortable situations, which I think is a great device
- 9:03Speaker 3: in gimmick. So yeah, basically he's funny Spock.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I mean, I'll be honest, I I picture
- 9:11Speaker 2: Spock eating bacon in my head about three times a day.
- 9:14Speaker 4: So right, yeah, uh, careful, Daniel likes bacon. He doesn't
- 9:24Speaker 4: love it.
- 9:25Speaker 3: It's fine. Bacon's fine.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Yeah, you know what, he can be wrong.
- 9:30Speaker 4: Right, that's right.
- 9:33Speaker 3: I don't know, Like, I think his Spock's pretty good
- 9:36Speaker 3: for what it is.
- 9:38Speaker 4: You know, well, it says it right there, the quote
- 9:40Speaker 4: it's a gimmick.
- 9:42Speaker 3: Yeah it is. That's the thing. It's a gimmick. It's
- 9:44Speaker 3: it's a writing crutch to put him in these situations.
- 9:47Speaker 3: So I'm gonna get it. You want to play the
- 9:50Speaker 3: your actors strengths so that way you get the best
- 9:52Speaker 3: possible performance.
- 9:53Speaker 4: But you know, I mean he's playing the super straight
- 9:56Speaker 4: man in the comedy. You know. Yeah, that's and they're
- 10:00Speaker 4: playing on that. They're they're I don't know, yeah, I
- 10:04Speaker 4: mean it's funny.
- 10:05Speaker 2: I just it's it's no different than the situations they
- 10:08Speaker 2: put data in for right purposes.
- 10:12Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, it works, it works. And then our
- 10:19Speaker 3: last news story comes to us from Bleeding Cool dot com. Uh,
- 10:23Speaker 3: this has been making the rounds. I don't know if
- 10:25Speaker 3: he saw this, but uh, believe it or not, he
- 10:29Speaker 3: has risen. Captain Kirk is back from the dead and
- 10:33Speaker 3: he is coming back, Yeah, in a new comic book
- 10:38Speaker 3: series that's going to be coming out uh later this fall,
- 10:41Speaker 3: I think it is. But what's really interesting about this, Yeah,
- 10:45Speaker 3: in September, he'll be he'll be coming back from the dead. Uh.
- 10:48Speaker 3: It's a new I d W Publishing and it's called
- 10:52Speaker 3: The Last Starship. But it makes this really interesting is
- 10:55Speaker 3: they're resurrecting Kirk and putting him in the Discovery timeline.
- 11:00Speaker 3: He's going to be arriving right as the burn is
- 11:03Speaker 3: happening during that time period.
- 11:07Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, everybody was asking for that. It looks like
- 11:13Speaker 4: she's wearing a Starfleet uniform. She's giving me those come
- 11:16Speaker 4: hither eyes.
- 11:17Speaker 2: Just makes this this this makes no sense. This is like,
- 11:22Speaker 2: it doesn't make any sense. This is like, okay, you
- 11:24Speaker 2: know not to not to talk about current events too much,
- 11:28Speaker 2: but you know, the US bombed the Rand yesterday. Okay,
- 11:33Speaker 2: this would be like them sitting around at the Pentagon
- 11:35Speaker 2: and like, we don't know what to do. That's okay,
- 11:37Speaker 2: because the portal just opened up and Spartacus walks through
- 11:42Speaker 2: it and he's gonna you know, he's gonna guide us.
- 11:47Speaker 3: You can't say that on the internet because people will
- 11:49Speaker 3: believe it. They thank god.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Spartacus is in the Oval offices afternoon.
- 11:57Speaker 3: That's right.
- 11:58Speaker 4: You're gonna see a tweet from Battle prow say, oh yeah,
- 12:01Speaker 4: Spartacus apparently is coming.
- 12:04Speaker 3: I've seen it on the internet. They were talking about it.
- 12:07Speaker 2: You know, people people always tell me this is Spartacus
- 12:10Speaker 2: is a great guy personally. I've never met him, but
- 12:12Speaker 2: I look, I'm looking forward to meeting him. Uh. He's
- 12:15Speaker 2: tremendous he's fantastic.
- 12:18Speaker 3: Oh god, that.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Was my half assed That was my half impression.
- 12:22Speaker 3: Yeah. So basically that's all of that is how I
- 12:26Speaker 3: feel about this comic book series. It just why I mean,
- 12:30Speaker 3: if it's good, great, great, But it just it's such
- 12:34Speaker 3: a weird premise.
- 12:35Speaker 2: So do you remember you was it in Relics?
- 12:39Speaker 5: No?
- 12:40Speaker 2: It was okay, no, it was a Star Trek Star
- 12:42Speaker 2: Trek the motion picture. It's the same freaking character when
- 12:45Speaker 2: Kirk starts barking orders on the bridge and and Decker.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Decker has to say, belay that order, don't do that,
- 12:52Speaker 2: do this instead, And then the conversation, why did you
- 12:55Speaker 2: you know, why did you change my orders? Because the
- 12:57Speaker 2: ship doesn't work that way anymore, dumbass, because you've been
- 13:00Speaker 2: out of the game for three years and if you
- 13:02Speaker 2: did that, you would have killed us. All okay, that's
- 13:05Speaker 2: three years. This is like a thousand.
- 13:08Speaker 3: Years, right right. Yeah, apparently he's gonna get a new
- 13:13Speaker 3: crew and they're gonna go save the Federation or something that.
- 13:18Speaker 3: But yeah, whatever, does.
- 13:21Speaker 2: Any you know not to be am I the asshole?
- 13:24Speaker 2: It's a it's a good uh, not to be the asshole,
- 13:27Speaker 2: But yeah, does anyone does anyone read Star Trek comic books.
- 13:31Speaker 2: I mean, I've been into Star Trek for decades, and
- 13:35Speaker 2: there were a couple of decades where I bought comic
- 13:37Speaker 2: books religiously, and I can honestly tell you I've never
- 13:42Speaker 2: purchased a single. It's like, yeah, okay, he's reaching for
- 13:45Speaker 2: his Star Trek book collection.
- 13:46Speaker 4: Yeah, I got a ton of them. I got a
- 13:48Speaker 4: ton of them. Look, I got tons of Star Treks
- 13:51Speaker 4: and you can tell I've never actually opened these. So
- 13:55Speaker 4: I reach for him, not because I was about to
- 13:58Speaker 4: prove you wrong. I would about to prove you right,
- 14:01Speaker 4: because the only reason I got those comic books was
- 14:06Speaker 4: for the for the for the artwork on the front.
- 14:08Speaker 4: I have no intention of ever cracking them open. And
- 14:12Speaker 4: I am one of the biggest Star Trek fans this
- 14:15Speaker 4: side of the Mississippi. Yeah, no offense, Captain Lombardo. But
- 14:21Speaker 4: I don't read Star Trek comic books.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:25Speaker 3: The the only times I've read them is for this show, when,
- 14:29Speaker 3: like I think, for Picard and Discovery, they had a
- 14:32Speaker 3: tie in comic so I read it so that we
- 14:34Speaker 3: could we could talk about it. But that's it. So
- 14:41Speaker 3: I'm I'm sure somewhere there are people who read them,
- 14:44Speaker 3: but yeah, yeah.
- 14:46Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 14:47Speaker 3: That's like.
- 14:49Speaker 4: Notes from previous episodes just fell down to.
- 14:52Speaker 3: Yeah, but seeing that out loud, like I'm thinking about
- 14:56Speaker 3: like the novels too, Like I don't read those. I
- 14:58Speaker 3: don't know anyone that does read. But they're possible.
- 15:00Speaker 2: No, I know, I know there's a lot of people
- 15:02Speaker 2: that read those.
- 15:03Speaker 3: Yeah, there's got to be a contingent. It's just it's
- 15:07Speaker 3: not us.
- 15:08Speaker 4: So yeah, well or is it. I'd like to hear
- 15:11Speaker 4: from the Facebook group, does anybody need comic books? Start
- 15:16Speaker 4: our comic books? And if so, what you know, show us, yes,
- 15:19Speaker 4: just a picture of what you're reading.
- 15:21Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, we're in the chat. If you guys read
- 15:24Speaker 3: the comic books and let us know, yeah, yeah, I'd
- 15:27Speaker 3: love to hear that. All right, all right, well then
- 15:31Speaker 3: let's get to our main topic, Star Trek am I
- 15:35Speaker 3: the Asshole.
- 15:37Speaker 1: So the fun will now come out.
- 15:45Speaker 4: All right.
- 15:45Speaker 3: So I've got a few of these and we just
- 15:48Speaker 3: kind of go through them and talk about them and decide.
- 15:53Speaker 4: These people are as You're coming to us from Reddit.
- 15:57Speaker 3: There's a Reddit a home page a am I the Asshole,
- 16:01Speaker 3: and that's where these things.
- 16:04Speaker 2: So you're cutting out a little bit. I don't know
- 16:06Speaker 2: if you're scrolling. You know that does it? Sometimes?
- 16:09Speaker 3: Yeah, it's because I gotta get to the other page
- 16:13Speaker 3: with me. Let me do this, see what I can
- 16:16Speaker 3: bring it up over here? Okay, can you hear me?
- 16:18Speaker 3: Is that better now?
- 16:21Speaker 2: Yeah? I think so?
- 16:21Speaker 3: Okay, all right, so here's the first one. Am I
- 16:24Speaker 3: the asshole for accidentally ruining Star Trek for my significant other?
- 16:29Speaker 3: So here we go me female thirty three, my significant other,
- 16:35Speaker 3: male thirty four, is a tricky and I'm not quite
- 16:39Speaker 3: sure if that's how you write it. I have seen
- 16:42Speaker 3: all the has seen all the movies and shows several
- 16:45Speaker 3: times over she's talking about him. I've watched them as
- 16:50Speaker 3: well with him, the newer shows and the older shows,
- 16:53Speaker 3: but in sporading orders. At some point I started noticing
- 16:57Speaker 3: that when all the different strips show up on score,
- 17:01Speaker 3: they have sounds like rumbling. And I pointed out that
- 17:06Speaker 3: that is not possible, let alone a ship porn or
- 17:09Speaker 3: anything like that. And he looked at me when I
- 17:12Speaker 3: said that, and he said, why did you just say that?
- 17:15Speaker 3: I can't unhear it. And from then on out he
- 17:18Speaker 3: started noticing it, and we talk about it every time.
- 17:23Speaker 3: So there you go the fact that there's rumbling when
- 17:27Speaker 3: the ships go by, and that there should not be
- 17:30Speaker 3: sound in space. So she asked for ruining that.
- 17:35Speaker 2: She didn't rune it. He's you know, he's overreacting. She
- 17:39Speaker 2: didn't rute it. That is that is something that happens
- 17:42Speaker 2: on screen in every sci fi, every iteration of sci
- 17:47Speaker 2: fi has sound effects in space because it's boring to
- 17:51Speaker 2: watch a silent movie. So we all kind of accept
- 17:56Speaker 2: that there are things. There are things that happen on
- 17:59Speaker 2: television that do not happen in real life. We have
- 18:04Speaker 2: only ever seen the Brady House from one angle, right right, Yeah,
- 18:09Speaker 2: what's what's behind the camera? I don't know, Yeah, but we.
- 18:14Speaker 3: Accept it, right right right, Yeah, Yeah, I don't. I
- 18:19Speaker 3: don't think she's the asshole either. I think, yeah, I
- 18:23Speaker 3: get the feeling that this is, uh, it's just an
- 18:26Speaker 3: inside joke between them, and so she just put it
- 18:29Speaker 3: on there for attention or something.
- 18:31Speaker 4: I've never had a problem with with, you know, hearing
- 18:33Speaker 4: explosions in space or hearing the ship go by, because
- 18:38Speaker 4: there's a good chance that you probably wouldn't survive seeing
- 18:42Speaker 4: a ship go by at that particular angle either, and
- 18:45Speaker 4: I feel like you're right, there is no sound in space,
- 18:49Speaker 4: but the sound we're hearing is the sound that we're
- 18:52Speaker 4: meant to hear if we could hear sounds in space.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Yeah, it's trying.
- 18:56Speaker 4: It's representing what we would what we would see or hear.
- 19:01Speaker 4: You know, it's the same thing with the cloaking device.
- 19:04Speaker 4: We really couldn't see the shimmering effect, but we see
- 19:07Speaker 4: the shimmering effect because that's just kind of what they
- 19:09Speaker 4: do to represent it, right, It's a representation of what
- 19:11Speaker 4: it would sound like. That's I never get distracted by oh,
- 19:15Speaker 4: you can't hear sounds in space. No, you can't hear
- 19:16Speaker 4: sounds in space because there's no particles to transmit to vibrations.
- 19:20Speaker 4: I get that. Yeah, they're just kind of ship try
- 19:22Speaker 4: to represented or.
- 19:24Speaker 3: When the ships sink, they wouldn't sink in space, they
- 19:27Speaker 3: just stay.
- 19:28Speaker 4: There, right, Yeah, Yeah, you see that that ship sinking
- 19:33Speaker 4: kind of feeling in a lot of like especially in
- 19:36Speaker 4: a Star Trek two, you see the reliant sort of
- 19:40Speaker 4: do that. I mean the way the camera points at
- 19:43Speaker 4: it and the way it moves, it looks like it's.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Sinking, right, that's because you know, inertia. Inertia isn't exciting?
- 19:51Speaker 4: Yeah, Or ships that are drifting or ships that are
- 19:54Speaker 4: a drift in space move a lot more than ships
- 19:58Speaker 4: that are just stationary.
- 19:59Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, exactly, exactly. All right, let's do the next one.
- 20:05Speaker 3: So this is also, Am I the asshole? Am I
- 20:09Speaker 3: the asshole? If I dipped out of a wedding for
- 20:12Speaker 3: a Star Trek convention?
- 20:14Speaker 2: Nope?
- 20:15Speaker 3: So here we go. Yeah all right, yeah, let me
- 20:26Speaker 3: read it just so we can read it. Would I
- 20:28Speaker 3: be the asshole for dipping out of a wedding for
- 20:30Speaker 3: a Star Trek convention. A friend of mine from grade
- 20:32Speaker 3: school is getting married. We remain relatively good friends, but
- 20:36Speaker 3: nothing to write home about. The wedding has been coming
- 20:39Speaker 3: up for many years, with the officials saved the date
- 20:42Speaker 3: arriving earlier this year. This is from like five six
- 20:46Speaker 3: years ago. So I purchased my tickets to a Star
- 20:49Speaker 3: Trek convention set for May of twenty twenty, but that
- 20:53Speaker 3: was postponed for obvious reasons, and now is set for
- 20:56Speaker 3: the summer of twenty twenty one. So gives you the
- 20:58Speaker 3: timeline when this happened. But here's the thing. I live
- 21:03Speaker 3: in Europe. The convention in the wedding ar in the US.
- 21:07Speaker 3: So my ticket to come over for a summer flight
- 21:10Speaker 3: was very expensive and I don't want to miss the convention. However,
- 21:17Speaker 3: they're up right about the same time. So am I
- 21:24Speaker 3: the asshole?
- 21:26Speaker 4: No the word relatively, he said, we're relatively good friends.
- 21:31Speaker 2: Yeah, he's not the best. A gift.
- 21:34Speaker 4: He'll forget that you were there. Yeah, get him a gift.
- 21:37Speaker 4: I'll forget you weren't there. Ye, no, you're not.
- 21:41Speaker 2: Everyone forgives Latin when you're talking about my money.
- 21:44Speaker 4: I don't know if.
- 21:47Speaker 2: I don't know if that's a rule of acquisition, but
- 21:48Speaker 2: it should be everyone forgives Latin. Send him a gift.
- 21:55Speaker 3: Somebody said in the instagram, I don't believe these? Am
- 21:58Speaker 3: I the assholes?
- 22:00Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 22:01Speaker 3: Some people make them up? So yeah, yeah, all right,
- 22:07Speaker 3: and then our last one. These are going a lot
- 22:09Speaker 3: faster than I thought.
- 22:09Speaker 2: But that's oh wow, okay, make it a good one. Yeah,
- 22:14Speaker 2: you know, just just just a comments on.
- 22:18Speaker 3: Oh, because now the chat can stay up in the
- 22:20Speaker 3: entire time. Oh okay, So the longer the more people chat,
- 22:25Speaker 3: they just keep coming in.
- 22:26Speaker 4: So there you go, gus.
- 22:28Speaker 2: So I once I once dipped out of a wedding
- 22:31Speaker 2: that I was at. Because I got to the point
- 22:35Speaker 2: in the wedding where I was, I was a little
- 22:36Speaker 2: bit bored, and I was I was flipping through Facebook
- 22:39Speaker 2: on my phone and what I'll do, you know, I
- 22:43Speaker 2: buy and sell things, and I buy things. I buy
- 22:46Speaker 2: things on Marketplace. So if I'm traveling, I will switch
- 22:49Speaker 2: my Marketplace location to the area that I'm traveling in
- 22:53Speaker 2: case there's you know, it'll show me results for that area.
- 22:57Speaker 2: So I switched. I switched my location. Because I switched
- 23:00Speaker 2: my location, I'm scrolling through and I see a lot
- 23:05Speaker 2: of action figures for sale about three miles from where
- 23:08Speaker 2: this this wedding was being held. And I'm flipping through
- 23:12Speaker 2: the pictures and there was an extremely rare Gi Joe
- 23:17Speaker 2: figure in there for a handful of bucks, three miles away.
- 23:22Speaker 2: And I messaged the guy and I said, Hey, can
- 23:23Speaker 2: I come pick this up? And he said, yeah, where
- 23:25Speaker 2: do you want to meet? We set up a location
- 23:27Speaker 2: and I shimmed over to my wife and I whispered
- 23:30Speaker 2: in her ear. I said, I'll be back in a
- 23:32Speaker 2: few minutes, and she said, she said, where are you going.
- 23:35Speaker 2: I said, I'm gonna go buy some Gi Jos and
- 23:37Speaker 2: she looked at me like I had three heads and
- 23:40Speaker 2: then and then I said, but I'm gonna sell one
- 23:43Speaker 2: for about three hundred bucks. She said, okay, go So
- 23:48Speaker 2: I ran out. I ran out. I bought this thing.
- 23:51Speaker 2: I brought it back in the parking lot. I took
- 23:53Speaker 2: a few pictures of it, and from my seat at
- 23:57Speaker 2: the wedding, I reposted it to some collector groups and Facebook,
- 24:02Speaker 2: and I sold this I sold this thing before I
- 24:04Speaker 2: left the wedding. Am I the asshole? I don't know.
- 24:08Speaker 2: You guys, tell me, the kids at home can tell me.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Let me know.
- 24:14Speaker 3: I think you did great.
- 24:16Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, all right, And here's wedding gifts are expensive?
- 24:21Speaker 2: You know I paid for the web yet.
- 24:23Speaker 3: There you go, yeah, there you go.
- 24:25Speaker 2: All right.
- 24:25Speaker 3: So here's our last Am I the asshole? Am I
- 24:28Speaker 3: the asshole for wanting to name my son after a
- 24:31Speaker 3: start Trenk character.
- 24:33Speaker 2: So it depends on the on the character. Oh yeah,
- 24:39Speaker 2: I mean if you're if you're going to name your
- 24:42Speaker 2: kids Scottie because you like Scotti, Okay, that's fine. I
- 24:48Speaker 2: don't know people are going to ask if people are
- 24:51Speaker 2: going to ask what where the name comes from? And
- 24:54Speaker 2: it's going to be awkward for that kid for the
- 24:56Speaker 2: rest of his life. Then yeah, yeah, you're the Uh,
- 25:01Speaker 2: you're the asshole. If you're gonna name your kid Rick, Berman, Lombardo, whatever,
- 25:06Speaker 2: no one's gonna think twice about it.
- 25:07Speaker 4: Rick.
- 25:08Speaker 2: They're gonna think Rick was your uncle's name, Berman was
- 25:10Speaker 2: your mom's main name, and and you know that's it.
- 25:13Speaker 2: But you know, if you're if you're gonna name your kid, uh,
- 25:18Speaker 2: you know, I don't know, Dacott. If you're gonna name
- 25:23Speaker 2: your trying to think of some off the wall, what
- 25:27Speaker 2: are some off the wall Star Trek names that you
- 25:30Speaker 2: if you're gonna if you're gonna name your kid seven
- 25:33Speaker 2: of nine tertiary adjuncts of Unimatetrick zero zero one, then
- 25:37Speaker 2: yeah you're a total d bag. Yeah all right. But
- 25:41Speaker 2: if you're gonna name your kid Hugh, if you're gonna
- 25:43Speaker 2: name your kid Hugh because you like that episode, then yeah,
- 25:47Speaker 2: that's fine.
- 25:48Speaker 3: Okay, okay. Originally, Oh, I was gonna I was gonna
- 25:56Speaker 3: just go through read it.
- 25:58Speaker 2: So oh oh, I'm done reading it.
- 26:02Speaker 3: I haven't even started reading it. You just jumped right
- 26:04Speaker 3: on it.
- 26:07Speaker 2: Sorry, I'm passionate about Star Trek.
- 26:09Speaker 3: Geez Yeah, it's okay. I thirty three female, am seven
- 26:13Speaker 3: months pregnant with our son, who doesn't have a name yet.
- 26:16Speaker 3: I also like Star Trek, especially DS nine, which I've
- 26:19Speaker 3: been rewatching recently. If you're familiar with that series, then
- 26:23Speaker 3: you will certainly remember doctor Julian Bisher. I've always thought
- 26:28Speaker 3: Julian is a pretty name, but I forgot about it
- 26:31Speaker 3: before my rewatch. So when I heard it again, I
- 26:33Speaker 3: text my husband asking his opinion on the name. He
- 26:36Speaker 3: loved it, and for a while we both wanted to
- 26:39Speaker 3: name our son Julian. He didn't know where I got
- 26:42Speaker 3: the name, and we've been doing that since I found
- 26:44Speaker 3: out I was pregnant, texting each other names that we've
- 26:47Speaker 3: heard somewhere or read it somewhere, and we didn't always
- 26:50Speaker 3: specify where we heard it from. It's one of those
- 26:53Speaker 3: names that we This is one of the names that
- 26:55Speaker 3: we both liked, was Julian. Yeah. Yesterday, as I was
- 27:00Speaker 3: watching DS nine again and my husband was home, he
- 27:03Speaker 3: happened to pass by as Julian was on screen and
- 27:06Speaker 3: somebody said his name. He stopped and asked me, is
- 27:09Speaker 3: that where I got the name? I said yes, and
- 27:12Speaker 3: he said we can't name our son Julian. I asked
- 27:14Speaker 3: him why, and he I asked him why he loved
- 27:17Speaker 3: it after all, and he said that it would be
- 27:20Speaker 3: weird to name a real child after a character on
- 27:22Speaker 3: a TV show. But he said that even though he
- 27:26Speaker 3: liked the name, and the fact that it was a
- 27:29Speaker 3: stargery character would just lead to bullying.
- 27:33Speaker 4: So, Dan, does this feel familiar to you? We've done this,
- 27:38Speaker 4: We've we've gone over the story before.
- 27:40Speaker 2: Have we, I think?
- 27:42Speaker 4: Because because yes, and I remember telling the story my
- 27:47Speaker 4: oldest son middle.
- 27:49Speaker 3: Name a long time ago.
- 27:51Speaker 4: Yeah, and it's spelled R y K E R. Yeah,
- 27:56Speaker 4: because it's a German derivative. Yes, Richard, which is my
- 27:59Speaker 4: what was my father his name?
- 28:01Speaker 2: But also.
- 28:04Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I think we did this before. Oh no,
- 28:08Speaker 4: you're not an asshole.
- 28:09Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, I agree.
- 28:11Speaker 2: No, it's a totally totally normal name.
- 28:14Speaker 3: Yeah, there was an update she said that, uh.
- 28:17Speaker 2: Now, if it was Richard that you want to name
- 28:20Speaker 2: her kid after, you're you're a total asshole because that
- 28:24Speaker 2: guy's an asshole. And then by the transitive property, your
- 28:28Speaker 2: kid would be an asshole and you'd be the mother
- 28:30Speaker 2: of an asshole.
- 28:31Speaker 3: Oh my god, Richards father in Star Trek.
- 28:38Speaker 4: Oh my goodness.
- 28:40Speaker 3: All right, well there you go. That's all the ones
- 28:43Speaker 3: I had, That's all the ones I could find on Reddit.
- 28:47Speaker 2: So while we're on this, let's just imagine each of
- 28:51Speaker 2: you have a child in the way, uh huh, and
- 28:53Speaker 2: you and you have to choose a Star Trek name.
- 28:56Speaker 2: Oh what would it be?
- 29:02Speaker 3: I would go Benjamin. I like the name, and who
- 29:07Speaker 3: doesn't like the cisco?
- 29:10Speaker 2: Would it be just Benjamin laytees.
- 29:16Speaker 3: Ooh, Lafayette's kind of cool.
- 29:19Speaker 4: Lafayette is cool.
- 29:20Speaker 3: Yeah, Benjamin Lafayette.
- 29:21Speaker 2: Yeah, it's actually nice, Benjamin.
- 29:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't need that.
- 29:29Speaker 4: There's been a long standing joke at my house where
- 29:31Speaker 4: I will look at my kids and I will call
- 29:33Speaker 4: them by their first and middle and then Tiberius and
- 29:37Speaker 4: then last name, and they always look at me like
- 29:42Speaker 4: I'm stupid.
- 29:44Speaker 2: Mm hmm. Almost.
- 29:47Speaker 3: What character name would you use?
- 29:52Speaker 4: It doesn't matter, male or female. I like Evri. Oh
- 29:55Speaker 4: yeah nice, it's not too far out there. It's pretty yeah, yeah,
- 30:04Speaker 4: that's not here is pretty good too. For Maurice.
- 30:10Speaker 2: Maurice.
- 30:11Speaker 3: Yeah yeah.
- 30:13Speaker 2: There's a lot of good a lot of good names
- 30:15Speaker 2: out there.
- 30:15Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean names that don't sound I mean, Nelix
- 30:21Speaker 4: sounds like my pet cat.
- 30:22Speaker 2: But yeah, yeah, almost almost name my daughter Mogie. But
- 30:31Speaker 2: there I'm kidding.
- 30:34Speaker 3: Yes, who doesn't love a movie.
- 30:39Speaker 2: There was a time. There was a time where I
- 30:41Speaker 2: wanted to name my son Jehan Luke. But I want,
- 30:45Speaker 2: I wanted, but I wanted to be cheeky about it
- 30:47Speaker 2: and and spell it like americanize it John. And look,
- 30:53Speaker 2: so it's both John Luke Icard.
- 30:56Speaker 4: I'm going to read.
- 30:58Speaker 3: Okay, I've got a friend of mine John, Oh yeah,
- 31:04Speaker 3: John Luke.
- 31:05Speaker 2: I think I got a yeah, John Luke.
- 31:07Speaker 3: Okay, I got a friend of mine who named his
- 31:10Speaker 3: kid Oliver Queen. And yeah, like that's his first and
- 31:18Speaker 3: middle name is Oliver Queen. And and when they had
- 31:23Speaker 3: the baby, I mean the baby is now like sixteen
- 31:26Speaker 3: years old. But his wife didn't know where the name
- 31:31Speaker 3: came from. So she's over Queen. That's an interesting He's like, well, yeah,
- 31:36Speaker 3: you know, because Oliver is a name we both like,
- 31:38Speaker 3: and you know, Queen because he always remembers mom. She's like, oh, okay, great,
- 31:43Speaker 3: And so besides the Brizards Wigot, they're all good to go.
- 31:46Speaker 3: Then like a few days later, people are coming to
- 31:48Speaker 3: visit the baby, and somebody goes, wait, like the green Arrow.
- 31:55Speaker 2: Yeah. So a friend of mine had had a friend
- 31:59Speaker 2: who had three and his boys. His boys were Jay,
- 32:04Speaker 2: Barry and Wally.
- 32:06Speaker 3: Oh yeah, that's pretty good.
- 32:10Speaker 2: But but again, they're all normal names.
- 32:13Speaker 4: Yeah, they're all normal names.
- 32:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:17Speaker 4: Well, alter ego. I mean, you know, the main name
- 32:19Speaker 4: of most superheroes are you know Bruce Clark, you know Arthur.
- 32:25Speaker 3: Uh. I've always had a joke with my mom because
- 32:28Speaker 3: twins right in my family. So if I were to
- 32:31Speaker 3: have twins, I would name them Peter and Berger, even
- 32:37Speaker 3: though I like Batman Moore, you would name them what
- 32:41Speaker 3: Peter and Perker?
- 32:44Speaker 4: Oh okay, yeah, I like it. I like it.
- 32:52Speaker 3: Yeah, all right, Well, should we get to listener feedback?
- 32:59Speaker 4: Sure?
- 33:00Speaker 3: No, don't want to do it.
- 33:01Speaker 4: We're done, We're done.
- 33:03Speaker 3: Well early show you guys later. All right, here we
- 33:07Speaker 3: go listener feedback? All right? Uh, so we actually got
- 33:16Speaker 3: a voicemail, so I will play that X up in
- 33:20Speaker 3: the chat if you want to join us. But while
- 33:23Speaker 3: we're waiting for that to happen, I will play the voicemail.
- 33:28Speaker 6: Hey, guys, is Steven so then oll nois I appreciate
- 33:33Speaker 6: your Father's Day episode I'm actually driving from Illinois to
- 33:38Speaker 6: Ohio to go see my dad and got to listen
- 33:41Speaker 6: to the episode on the way there. I thought you
- 33:44Speaker 6: had two notable people.
- 33:46Speaker 7: One that could have been S Tier, one that could
- 33:47Speaker 7: have been D Tier or S Tier.
- 33:50Speaker 6: If you could make that up for it, i'd.
- 33:52Speaker 7: Say in the D tier offer out RAFFI, I'm surprised
- 33:58Speaker 7: no one thought of that well written, amazing acted character,
- 34:03Speaker 7: so you could discuss her as far as A Tire
- 34:07Speaker 7: or S here.
- 34:08Speaker 5: We didn't see him much.
- 34:10Speaker 7: But I think that Captain Archer's father.
- 34:13Speaker 6: Based on everything you've seen, has been considered an A Tier.
- 34:17Speaker 2: Or S Tire.
- 34:18Speaker 7: Based on how much Archer talks about his dad, and
- 34:22Speaker 7: we can flashbacks to his dad and the amazing things
- 34:25Speaker 7: his dad did, I think he can still be an Archer,
- 34:28Speaker 7: so i'd say based on that, he's probably an A
- 34:31Speaker 7: or maybe even an S here. So I take your
- 34:34Speaker 7: thoughts on.
- 34:35Speaker 2: It as well.
- 34:36Speaker 6: I have a great week and look forward to hearing
- 34:39Speaker 6: from you.
- 34:39Speaker 3: Aye, there you go.
- 34:42Speaker 2: It's cool. Thanks for falling in and we appreciate that.
- 34:46Speaker 4: Yeah, and I really like how you made him a
- 34:49Speaker 4: flat cross between a Wookie and Harry from Harry and
- 34:52Speaker 4: the Henderson's Yeah, yeah, great, yeah, yeah, both ideas are good. Archer,
- 35:02Speaker 4: you know, being an influence on on Captain Archer and uh,
- 35:08Speaker 4: you know, Dan, I'm sure you got some things to
- 35:11Speaker 4: say about you know, RAFFI.
- 35:13Speaker 2: So Daddy Archer is he's not only Jonathan Archer's dad,
- 35:18Speaker 2: but he's kind of the father of Starfleet. Yeah, yeah,
- 35:22Speaker 2: I would, I would make that argument. Uh, while I
- 35:27Speaker 2: while I appreciate this guy's call, he's out of his mind.
- 35:30Speaker 2: We don't, we don't, we don't. Just she's not a dad. Yeah,
- 35:34Speaker 2: she's not even a person. She doesn't exist.
- 35:39Speaker 3: Wow.
- 35:42Speaker 2: Wow, she's so far down on the list. She's not
- 35:46Speaker 2: on it.
- 35:46Speaker 3: There you go, Well it's a dad's list. She wouldn't
- 35:49Speaker 3: be on the dad's list.
- 35:50Speaker 4: Yeah, show us, Dolly where the USS discovery hurt you everywhere?
- 35:56Speaker 2: All the parts, all of the parts. Both But thank
- 36:06Speaker 2: you for calling, Thank you for the message. We appreciate that.
- 36:09Speaker 3: So we we also got a letter from uh devall.
- 36:13Speaker 3: This came in a couple of weeks ago, but we
- 36:15Speaker 3: were so busy.
- 36:16Speaker 2: So well it's at that's true, yeah translated.
- 36:24Speaker 3: Yeah, but one of the questions he asked, is is
- 36:27Speaker 3: there a version of Trek movie or episode that you
- 36:31Speaker 3: prefer over the original source material, like a novelization, uh,
- 36:36Speaker 3: an extended episode of comic book, like that they adapt
- 36:40Speaker 3: one of their stories, I guess and redid it for
- 36:43Speaker 3: the shows or movies that we prefer over the original Hmmm.
- 36:50Speaker 3: I don't know enough about the movies or the books
- 36:53Speaker 3: and the and like the video games and all that
- 36:56Speaker 3: to to say like, oh, yeah, this storyline that they
- 36:59Speaker 3: took from there and he did hear? I don't know
- 37:02Speaker 3: enough to say.
- 37:05Speaker 4: So, Okay, the question again, did we like like an
- 37:10Speaker 4: adaptation of a story better, like from a video game
- 37:12Speaker 4: or a book or something?
- 37:14Speaker 3: Yeah, and I and I don't know if he means
- 37:16Speaker 3: like they did this story in a Star Trek novel
- 37:19Speaker 3: and now they made it an episode or does he
- 37:22Speaker 3: mean like like Sherlock Holmes, right, because data addresses up
- 37:26Speaker 3: like Sherlock Holmes all the time.
- 37:28Speaker 2: You like, I think he's talking about like, do you
- 37:32Speaker 2: like the novelization of First Contact better than the film?
- 37:35Speaker 3: Oh?
- 37:35Speaker 2: You know, you read you read sort of books sometimes
- 37:38Speaker 2: and there's different sometimes there's different scenes that didn't didn't
- 37:41Speaker 2: make it into.
- 37:41Speaker 4: The right right because they go into way because I
- 37:44Speaker 4: I listened about six months ago. I listened to the
- 37:48Speaker 4: audiobook version of Star Trek from two thousand and nine,
- 37:52Speaker 4: and it was fantastic. It was. It was. It was
- 37:57Speaker 4: narrated by Us Spock who played spot Oh yeah, Zachary
- 38:03Speaker 4: Quinto Yeah, and he did other than his impersonation of Scotty,
- 38:08Speaker 4: he did a fantastic job.
- 38:14Speaker 2: So it's you know, books are not TV and TV
- 38:18Speaker 2: is not books, right, They're two, they're two different things.
- 38:21Speaker 2: And you know when you make a when you make
- 38:23Speaker 2: a TV show or a motion picture, there's there's the
- 38:25Speaker 2: role of show them, don't tell them. Right in a book,
- 38:29Speaker 2: you can't. You can't show them. You gotta tell them.
- 38:32Speaker 2: So sometimes the things that you tried to show them
- 38:36Speaker 2: in the film that maybe didn't come across as well,
- 38:40Speaker 2: you absolutely and people didn't pick them up. You absolutely
- 38:42Speaker 2: pick them up in the book because they're telling you
- 38:44Speaker 2: that this is what's happening. You're telling you as this
- 38:47Speaker 2: character does this, this is what's happening in his mind,
- 38:51Speaker 2: and as this character does this, this is what's happening
- 38:54Speaker 2: in her mind. And on the TV or or the movie,
- 38:58Speaker 2: you just kind of have to look at it say, ah,
- 39:00Speaker 2: these two characters are doing this. He must be thinking this,
- 39:03Speaker 2: She must be thinking that. Maybe you get it right,
- 39:05Speaker 2: maybe you don't. So sometimes translate well.
- 39:08Speaker 4: Because my favorite Star Trek novel is is Q Squared
- 39:11Speaker 4: by Peter David, the late Peter David, and it's it's
- 39:14Speaker 4: my fait. I love it. It's fantastic. I don't think
- 39:17Speaker 4: it would translate well on screen. I don't know if
- 39:19Speaker 4: they could do the visuals well enough to translate well.
- 39:23Speaker 4: I highly recommend any Star Trek fan, especially next gen
- 39:26Speaker 4: Star Trek fan, read Q Squared.
- 39:30Speaker 3: Yeah, and then Mike, Oh, yeah, No.
- 39:35Speaker 2: I was just going to say, to answer his question,
- 39:38Speaker 2: I'm not sure that there's a alternate version of of
- 39:43Speaker 2: of Trek and alternate medium that I prefer, or the
- 39:47Speaker 2: motion picture or TV version. So if he has one
- 39:51Speaker 2: in mind, I would love to hear about it.
- 39:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 39:54Speaker 4: Actually, if they came out with like a my like
- 39:57Speaker 4: a book version of Star Trek the motion picture that
- 40:01Speaker 4: was designed for kindergarteners, there was only like seventeen pages long,
- 40:05Speaker 4: I would prefer that one. Honestly, there you go, there
- 40:08Speaker 4: you go, a seventeen page book version of Star Trek's
- 40:11Speaker 4: motion picture.
- 40:12Speaker 2: M hmm.
- 40:14Speaker 3: Mike says, wasn't RAPPI a deadbeat mom? Yeah?
- 40:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I think that's why he was saying
- 40:21Speaker 2: she should be down on the.
- 40:22Speaker 3: Yeah on the list, yep, all right, and then h
- 40:26Speaker 3: we got Chaz bizs so let me bring him there.
- 40:29Speaker 3: He is going on, was that Are you the asshole?
- 40:36Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 40:36Speaker 8: I think Dan might be. I think that's g I
- 40:42Speaker 8: Joe's Tho's episodes.
- 40:44Speaker 4: He's missed.
- 40:46Speaker 1: Busy. It's like, I gotta make some money. I found it.
- 40:52Speaker 8: Kid Championship and then he's like buying in Joe's.
- 41:02Speaker 3: But he made some money, so it all works out.
- 41:04Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yep, yeah, soon I'll have a new shuttle craft.
- 41:09Speaker 3: That's right, that's right.
- 41:11Speaker 2: Yeah yeah. Oh no, detectic a decompression.
- 41:16Speaker 3: Oh no, the back opened up? Baby?
- 41:21Speaker 1: So is it getting sucked out or blown out out?
- 41:24Speaker 2: Learn your physics?
- 41:29Speaker 4: I I noticed that you're wearing the under part of
- 41:33Speaker 4: the Starfleet uniform. Is it is hot in New York State?
- 41:37Speaker 3: As it is?
- 41:38Speaker 2: This is the no, this is the Battlestar Galactica under
- 41:41Speaker 2: uh yeah underpart Yeah?
- 41:44Speaker 4: Okay, okay, wait.
- 41:45Speaker 2: Yeah no, I'm just lazy. I didn't wait, I didn't
- 41:47Speaker 2: I didn't really get up when you're wearing.
- 41:52Speaker 3: When you're wearing that, you got to go back in
- 41:54Speaker 3: the house. You gotta wear like the gel get all
- 41:57Speaker 3: gelled up to go back in.
- 42:00Speaker 4: He's got to wear the art butter.
- 42:01Speaker 2: Oh yeah, it's like my wife helps me put it on.
- 42:05Speaker 2: She likes, she likes.
- 42:06Speaker 3: Yeah, puts it on right. It was a weird, awkward scenes.
- 42:15Speaker 1: That was.
- 42:16Speaker 4: That was a weird show.
- 42:18Speaker 3: Yeah, that was nely some things in that show that
- 42:21Speaker 3: raise eyebrows.
- 42:21Speaker 2: But what what what's that? What show is weird?
- 42:24Speaker 1: Enterprise?
- 42:24Speaker 3: Enterprise were all No, No.
- 42:27Speaker 2: That was a great show.
- 42:28Speaker 4: That was. It was.
- 42:31Speaker 2: I was just reading an article the other day talking
- 42:34Speaker 2: about how that show h is now looked upon fondly
- 42:40Speaker 2: why by trekkies it is. It is aged, it has
- 42:44Speaker 2: aged to the point where where it's now beloved, And
- 42:48Speaker 2: I couldn't help but wonder is it that those same
- 42:54Speaker 2: people looked at some of the new stuff and it
- 42:56Speaker 2: was like, wow, I don't I really don't. I didn't
- 42:58Speaker 2: like this when it came out. I really don't like this,
- 43:01Speaker 2: So I guess this isn't that bad. Like for years,
- 43:05Speaker 2: I feel the same way about the Star Wars prequels.
- 43:09Speaker 2: I saw all them as they came out, and I
- 43:13Speaker 2: enjoyed them, but I was disappointed by certain aspects of them.
- 43:19Speaker 2: I was I was never one of those exist type people,
- 43:23Speaker 2: but you know, I realized that there were issues with
- 43:27Speaker 2: them and they weren't the best movies. Then I watched
- 43:29Speaker 2: the new trilogy and I'm like, man, this is crap.
- 43:35Speaker 2: These these old ones weren't so bad. And I rewatched
- 43:39Speaker 2: the original trilogy a few years ago and I'm like,
- 43:41Speaker 2: or the the prequel trilogy a few years ago, and
- 43:44Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah, you know what these uh these.
- 43:47Speaker 1: Are Okay, we watched the new ones.
- 43:53Speaker 2: Probably like six months a year ago. They're still trash.
- 43:57Speaker 2: They're still trash.
- 43:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 43:59Speaker 1: What about one Ray holds up that ancient knife and
- 44:03Speaker 1: likes at the death Star.
- 44:04Speaker 4: And it perfect scene, made perfect sense. You shut your back.
- 44:09Speaker 4: Some somehow Palpatine came back somehow, you know with that
- 44:15Speaker 4: when that actor said that, somehow Palpalatine came back.
- 44:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I caught.
- 44:19Speaker 4: A little little tiny hint of him not saying it
- 44:24Speaker 4: as an as a character, but him saying it as
- 44:26Speaker 4: an actor as a person.
- 44:29Speaker 1: I remember media Helpatine came back like Red Letter media
- 44:33Speaker 1: like called that and like they're gonna bring Palpal team back.
- 44:37Speaker 1: And then they had it all broken down and they
- 44:41Speaker 1: didn't review that episode. They didn't even.
- 44:44Speaker 4: Give a ship.
- 44:45Speaker 1: They're like, we're not going to do a whole show about.
- 44:50Speaker 4: It was like Discovery there.
- 44:52Speaker 2: It was.
- 44:52Speaker 4: It was garbage, but there were some really cool things
- 44:55Speaker 4: within it. Hm, you know, cool visuals, cool scenes, you know,
- 44:59Speaker 4: but as a whole what.
- 45:01Speaker 8: Do you mean, copy the paste all those Star Destroyers
- 45:04Speaker 8: coming out of the ground.
- 45:05Speaker 2: No. I was talking about Lea as the flying nun.
- 45:08Speaker 4: That was That was great, Okay, right, the second one
- 45:11Speaker 4: is garbage too.
- 45:12Speaker 3: I'm talking about the third one, the part delicious sprinkles.
- 45:17Speaker 4: Okay, the part where they flying the light speed the
- 45:21Speaker 4: ship into the other ship. That was cool.
- 45:25Speaker 3: Oh that's cool. Yeah yeah when they ran.
- 45:28Speaker 4: Yeah, when they like into that was a very cool.
- 45:33Speaker 4: That was That was a badass scene.
- 45:35Speaker 2: You can take it off the death start someone. Someone
- 45:38Speaker 2: had to be on board to do that.
- 45:41Speaker 4: I don't know you would think that.
- 45:46Speaker 3: You would think after doing that move they would create
- 45:47Speaker 3: like like long projectiles that they could do that too,
- 45:51Speaker 3: you know, like shoot giant.
- 45:57Speaker 4: Afterwards, they'd have to come up with a reason why
- 45:58Speaker 4: they couldn't do that all the time. Yeah. Yeah, it
- 46:02Speaker 4: was only because the hyper drive was overloading in a
- 46:04Speaker 4: certain way and they'd already taken some damage and the
- 46:08Speaker 4: NAVI computer would usually not let you do that, but
- 46:11Speaker 4: you know whatever.
- 46:13Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, Like it was a cool scene, especially in
- 46:19Speaker 8: the theater when it went quiet.
- 46:21Speaker 1: Yeah, you see that ship blown up.
- 46:24Speaker 4: Gas?
- 46:26Speaker 1: Yes, So I go to the movies a lot.
- 46:27Speaker 3: Did you see the uh twenty eight years later?
- 46:31Speaker 1: Yet I'm saying it Monday?
- 46:32Speaker 8: So so I've now I purchased my Superman tickets early.
- 46:38Speaker 8: I did the Amazon thing that Yeah, me too, all right,
- 46:41Speaker 8: I got mine early.
- 46:42Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't have the early access, but I'm we
- 46:45Speaker 4: got it for opening weekend.
- 46:46Speaker 3: I can't wait to go to cheer on Lex Luthor.
- 46:52Speaker 2: Uh, I'm gonna, I'm gonna. I'm gonna double down on
- 46:57Speaker 2: what I said last week about going social media dark
- 47:00Speaker 2: because there are there there is an organized it's ridiculous. Yeah,
- 47:06Speaker 2: there's an organized rebellion occurring among uh fans of the
- 47:12Speaker 2: previous DC movie universe. Yeah, and there are people with
- 47:17Speaker 2: with podcasts who are saying, ah, as soon as you
- 47:22Speaker 2: hear some spoilers, put them out on the internet. We
- 47:25Speaker 2: want to make this movie fail. Put the spoilers out there,
- 47:29Speaker 2: reserve tickets and then don't and then don't follow through
- 47:32Speaker 2: buying them, to like actively sabotaging the movie. It's like,
- 47:36Speaker 2: what's wrong with you? Yeah? What what's wrong with you? Did?
- 47:40Speaker 2: Did you hate yourself so much that you're gonna sabotage
- 47:47Speaker 2: a movie for other people? Yeah? What a bunch of
- 47:50Speaker 2: d What a bunch of d bags.
- 47:52Speaker 1: It'd be like a sabotage in Star Trek because they're
- 47:54Speaker 1: pissed off that it's not old Star Trek and they
- 47:57Speaker 1: should never ever ever make anything.
- 47:59Speaker 2: Every Star Star Trek has put out has put out
- 48:03Speaker 2: some crap over the years. Yeah, and I have watched
- 48:07Speaker 2: every bit of it, hoping for the best. I'm not
- 48:11Speaker 2: gonna lie and say that it was that it was
- 48:13Speaker 2: good when it wasn't. I'm not gonna lie and say
- 48:15Speaker 2: I enjoyed it when I didn't. But to openly sabotage it, No,
- 48:20Speaker 2: that's ridiculous. You're a piece of garbage. You're the You're
- 48:23Speaker 2: the ass am, I the asshole for sabotaging Superman.
- 48:27Speaker 3: Yes you are, Mike says, I'm driving two hours one
- 48:32Speaker 3: way Superman in Imax.
- 48:35Speaker 4: Yeah. Up until about ten years ago that would have
- 48:38Speaker 4: been me too. But in Kalamazoo, they they built an
- 48:41Speaker 4: Imax theater, So I'm gonna go through that. I've got
- 48:43Speaker 4: a busy weekend that weekend, so I'm gonna go see
- 48:46Speaker 4: on the eleventh, I'm gonna go see Superman in Imax. Uh.
- 48:51Speaker 4: And then that weekend is uh the Capital City Comic
- 48:55Speaker 4: Con in Lansing, Michigan. If anybody is in an we're
- 49:00Speaker 4: near Lancing. If you want to go to the comic
- 49:02Speaker 4: con and want to do a meet up, send shoot
- 49:04Speaker 4: me a message. It's supposed to be a pretty big
- 49:07Speaker 4: comic con. Garrett Wang a k a perpetual ensign Harry
- 49:13Speaker 4: Kim is going to be there. It's it's Wan, It's
- 49:19Speaker 4: I listened to it, yep I number.
- 49:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 49:27Speaker 4: The Capital City Comic Con is going on in Lancy,
- 49:29Speaker 4: Michigan from uh Friday, July eleventh to the thirteenth, So
- 49:33Speaker 4: it's Friday, Saturday and Sunday and uh, I'm I'm gonna
- 49:37Speaker 4: be going and uh it's at the Lancing Center, which
- 49:40Speaker 4: is sort of near downtown. It's kind of near Michigan State.
- 49:45Speaker 4: So if anybody plans on going, or even if you don't,
- 49:49Speaker 4: you want to make plans, Now, shoot me a message.
- 49:51Speaker 4: We'll do a meet up.
- 49:52Speaker 3: Nice.
- 49:53Speaker 1: So where's that Paddington three year review?
- 49:59Speaker 4: Okay?
- 50:00Speaker 3: You know, we just we haven't had time. We haven't
- 50:03Speaker 3: had time.
- 50:04Speaker 4: I can't believe if something's important enough, you make the time. Daniel,
- 50:08Speaker 4: That's true.
- 50:09Speaker 2: So I've organized a group. I've told them to post
- 50:13Speaker 2: post Paddington three spoilers. I've told them Dario tickets, tickets,
- 50:19Speaker 2: and then not follow through. It's on Netflix, all right,
- 50:25Speaker 2: show so much up?
- 50:26Speaker 4: Yeah, I scrubbed the agorithm. I'll watch the first five
- 50:30Speaker 4: minutes of the movie and then I'll shut it off.
- 50:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 50:32Speaker 1: How many how many movies are you at this year? Daniel?
- 50:36Speaker 1: In the theater?
- 50:37Speaker 3: Oh god, I don't know, maybe like half a dozen.
- 50:40Speaker 3: I haven't gone as much as I used to. I
- 50:42Speaker 3: just I don't know. I've been so focused on my
- 50:45Speaker 3: scripts that I just don't go. Oh. I can't wait
- 50:48Speaker 3: for next week to see Megan two. I think it looks.
- 50:52Speaker 2: I want to, Yeah, I had.
- 50:54Speaker 4: I didn't want to see the first one until I
- 50:56Speaker 4: saw that they came out with the sequel for it.
- 50:58Speaker 4: So yeah, yeah, I think I might watch the first one.
- 51:00Speaker 1: The first one's good.
- 51:01Speaker 3: This the person's good.
- 51:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know what's happened to the second one.
- 51:05Speaker 1: This looks a little on.
- 51:06Speaker 3: The second one. They smoked all the weed and wrote
- 51:08Speaker 3: the script. That's what happened.
- 51:11Speaker 4: Oh, that reminds me.
- 51:15Speaker 1: It's like they added everything they possibly could dance using flowers,
- 51:20Speaker 1: Let's do this.
- 51:22Speaker 3: Yeah, it's basically it's Crimlins two. Yeah, that's what it is,
- 51:26Speaker 3: but with an AI robot instead of like a Evils
- 51:30Speaker 3: supernatural you know, all.
- 51:34Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like multiple AI's out there or something, and
- 51:38Speaker 1: she's like this little cutesy dollic kills things.
- 51:42Speaker 3: A Waiting Game says, it feels like there's too many
- 51:44Speaker 3: storylines on the New Superman movie. It feels like they're
- 51:47Speaker 3: trying to pay back way too much into this movie.
- 51:51Speaker 2: I think what they're trying. I think what they're trying
- 51:54Speaker 2: to do from what I've read, they're they're skipping the
- 51:58Speaker 2: origin story because everyone knows Superman's or and straight, and
- 52:02Speaker 2: they're just dropping in on him three years into his career. Yeah,
- 52:07Speaker 2: so there's a lot going on. Because there's a lot
- 52:11Speaker 2: going on, But I'm gonna wait and see.
- 52:15Speaker 1: I mean, I'm gonna have fun.
- 52:18Speaker 3: I read somewhere that it's not really a movie in
- 52:21Speaker 3: as much as it's like every ten minutes is another
- 52:24Speaker 3: little story. So it's not one big, overapt, overarching film,
- 52:30Speaker 3: but it's just a series of different things Superman deals with,
- 52:35Speaker 3: which if that's the case, it would make sense it'd
- 52:39Speaker 3: be so packed.
- 52:40Speaker 2: I heard that, Well, that's great, because I'm really looking
- 52:42Speaker 2: forward to seeing Superman doing Superman stuff, right you. And
- 52:48Speaker 2: if you watch and that, and that's the problem if
- 52:50Speaker 2: you if you watch any of the other Superman movies,
- 52:53Speaker 2: it's like, all right, this movie is two hours long,
- 52:55Speaker 2: and if you sit down and look at it and
- 52:57Speaker 2: and break it up, oh well, in the end, there's
- 53:00Speaker 2: about twelve minutes of him doing Superman stuff, right yeah,
- 53:04Speaker 2: So if you're telling me this is a two hour
- 53:06Speaker 2: movie and there's twelve minutes of talking woven into two
- 53:11Speaker 2: hours of Superman doing Superman stuff, I'm down because I'll
- 53:15Speaker 2: tell you right now. Sometimes sometimes I will pop Superman
- 53:20Speaker 2: returns in and just watch him land the plane. Yeah.
- 53:25Speaker 2: I don't watch the rest of the movie. I just
- 53:28Speaker 2: watch him land. I watch him go oh shit, Lo's
- 53:31Speaker 2: is in trouble and he leaves the bar, and I
- 53:34Speaker 2: watch it to the point where he puts the plane down.
- 53:37Speaker 2: He tells everybody flying is still a save as former
- 53:40Speaker 2: travel and he flies off. That's it and shut the
- 53:41Speaker 2: movie off. So give me two hours of that. I'm good.
- 53:46Speaker 4: I might do a side mission to where he gets
- 53:47Speaker 4: shot in the eye. But yeah, yeah, that's pretty cool.
- 53:50Speaker 4: Yeah that's pretty cool.
- 53:52Speaker 1: Yeah, that's still a pretty cool thing when you think
- 53:55Speaker 1: about it.
- 53:56Speaker 2: Yeah, when my son, so, when my son was little,
- 53:59Speaker 2: when he was about five, and he was getting into superheroes,
- 54:04Speaker 2: and he was excited about superheroes, but he wasn't mature
- 54:06Speaker 2: enough to watch an entire Marvel movie. Is yes with
- 54:13Speaker 2: son rum Yeah, we would watch Captain America Civil War.
- 54:19Speaker 2: We would watch the airport scene.
- 54:21Speaker 3: Yep.
- 54:22Speaker 2: So it was it was like fifteen minutes that I
- 54:25Speaker 2: would put it on for him. He would get super
- 54:27Speaker 2: excited watching the whole thing. And then and then when
- 54:31Speaker 2: Roady has falling out of the sky, was shut it off. Yeah,
- 54:35Speaker 2: but I've watched I've watched that scene over and over
- 54:40Speaker 2: and over and over. And when he was old enough
- 54:41Speaker 2: to watch the movie for real, you could see when
- 54:44Speaker 2: it got to that point, he was like he's straightened up.
- 54:46Speaker 2: He's like, oh, I've seen this before a couple hundred times.
- 54:50Speaker 4: Yeah, and then falls Yeah.
- 54:54Speaker 3: Yeah, there's more to this movie. After that, we get hurt.
- 54:57Speaker 2: Oh dad, he got hurt? Yeah did buddy? That's right?
- 55:00Speaker 3: And let you watch it when Yeah. Yeah, all right, Well.
- 55:09Speaker 4: I I watched a movie this weekend. I wanted to
- 55:10Speaker 4: tell you about, really one. I saw Nova Kane with
- 55:14Speaker 4: Jack Qui. Yeah, a lot of fun. It was really stupid,
- 55:19Speaker 4: but it was a lot of fun. So if you're
- 55:21Speaker 4: in it's a bit on the it's a bit on
- 55:23Speaker 4: the gratuitous violence side, so if you're into that, yeah,
- 55:27Speaker 4: it was, it was It was a lot of fun.
- 55:29Speaker 4: Jack Wade is great, he's funny. So yeah, we enjoyed it.
- 55:35Speaker 3: Nice cool. Yeah, that's on my list. I just haven't
- 55:38Speaker 3: watched yet.
- 55:38Speaker 4: So yeah, I mean it's basically he's got his character.
- 55:42Speaker 4: He has uh SIPA, which is a one of the
- 55:45Speaker 4: rarest genetic disorders known to man. It's it's a he
