- 0:00You have arrived. Welcome to the ASPY world.
- 0:04Here's where we talk about anything and everything ASD in
- 0:07an upbeat and informative way. And now here's your man on the
- 0:11spectrum, your autism Ambassador, Daniel Morgan Jones.
- 0:19Change can be super challenging for people on the autism
- 0:21spectrum. That is why I've compiled 3
- 0:23major things you can help to implement in an articipation
- 0:27life. If it's you or somebody else to
- 0:28help them overcome change, let's get into it.
- 0:30Oh, and there's a secret 4th bonus tip right at the end if
- 0:33you stay to watch. Okay guys, welcome back to the
- 0:35aspy world. My name is Dan.
- 0:37What is going on? I have Asperger Syndrome and
- 0:39ADHD so I make videos on this stuff every single week.
- 0:42So if you do not want to miss a video on learn more, make sure
- 0:45to hit the subscribe button down below.
- 0:46So change is something that happens.
- 0:48It's inevitable. Life is an ever changing
- 0:49experience. Yet people on the autism
- 0:51spectrum have a massive issue with the transition of change
- 0:54because it's going out of that comfort zone.
- 0:56It's something that's moving away from their control.
- 0:59All these things cause mega issues.
- 1:01Roblox. Now, if you're a parent or an
- 1:02insisted person watching this and you're thinking, done, I
- 1:06know exactly what you mean. Down with the video.
- 1:08Well, I'm going to get into 3 tips right now.
- 1:10Actually, there's four, and the 4th one is a bonus one right at
- 1:12the end. So we'll get into 3 tips right
- 1:14Now buckle up. Now preparing in advance sounds
- 1:17just normal. Like, oh, yeah, you know, we'll
- 1:19just prepare. We're just going to kind of get
- 1:21our stuff to get in the bag and go with it, Pick up a sandwich
- 1:24on the way. OK, That's not preparing in
- 1:25advance. That's actually just winging it.
- 1:27Preparing in advance means that you basically minimize all the
- 1:30stress that you could encounter in that change or transition
- 1:33before you do something and you low the anxiety of the person on
- 1:36the awesome spectrum. Now how you do this is that you
- 1:38make a plan and you say okay, we're going to be here for this
- 1:41amount of time, it's over lunch time to bring it out with me.
- 1:44It may rain, so I'm going to bring an umbrella with me.
- 1:47I'm going to have a backup iPhone with me or iPad or
- 1:50something like that, so that if we need to use games to calm
- 1:53myself down, then I've got those games there.
- 1:55I'm going to bring my headphones because it may be too noisy.
- 1:57All of these things are preparing in advance.
- 2:00Before you go to the change, another way to do this is to
- 2:03make those things like that. What's going to happen?
- 2:06A visual schedule. Like you could get emojis and
- 2:08say, OK, we're going to go to the grocery store, grocery store
- 2:10emoji, then we're going to go to the swimming pool, swimming pool
- 2:12emoji, then we're going to go to Pizza Hut, and then you're like
- 2:15a pizza emoji. All of those things visually.
- 2:18Or a planner on a prepared planner will give the autistic
- 2:22person enough advanced notice to visually see what's going to
- 2:25happen. And they will be so much more
- 2:27comfortable and relaxed with that situation as it comes.
- 2:30Because that's one of the biggest issues we have is not
- 2:32knowing what to expect. So #2 is using sensory tools.
- 2:36Now sensory tools are things like fidget gadgets and all
- 2:40kinds of sensory deprivation tools.
- 2:42That could be sunglasses, could be noise cancelling headphones,
- 2:44could be sensory friendly clothing, could be clothing,
- 2:47window tags, all this kind of stuff is sensory based.
- 2:50Now what you're going to see is that artistic people have issues
- 2:54all the way through their life like they're going to the store,
- 2:55they're going to have issues because the the store is going
- 2:58to have certain smells that they don't like.
- 3:00But if you're already wearing AT shirt that's making you feel a
- 3:03bit uncomfortable, non sensory pleasing and you go to the
- 3:05store, then you have two problems.
- 3:07Not just not just the one to deal with, right?
- 3:08What about if you also got your headphones?
- 3:10Now you got the headphones, the clothing and the smells in the
- 3:14store. There's three problems and it
- 3:15could just be one. If you remember to do the
- 3:17sensory clothing and the headphones so you can see
- 3:20preparing all the tools that you need for a trip for century
- 3:24pleasing or century seeking people, then you are going to be
- 3:28able to really reduce the amount of stress or the issues that
- 3:32happen in certain environments on a transitional change going
- 3:34from the car to the store or vice versa.
- 3:36Right as this video is brought to you by Brilliant and thank
- 3:39you so much guys for sponsoring this video.
- 3:40Brilliant is a homeopathic, non prescription medication that you
- 3:44can get online. Now Brilliant is homeopathic
- 3:47which means there's no nasties in it, but it would definitely
- 3:49consult with your doctor before taking any medication because
- 3:51like you know, we're humans right?
- 3:53So this one is basically amazing.
- 3:55It helps enhance clarity, improve attention and
- 3:58concentration, reduce fields of anxiety, stress, impulsivity,
- 4:01restlessness and irritability, which is really common in people
- 4:04with autism and ADHD. Which is why I take it I've been
- 4:07taking this for two years. It's absolutely brilliant.
- 4:09It's a take two of these little flavorless dissolved tabs every
- 4:13single day and I take them two of them four times a day.
- 4:17It takes about four weeks to kick in and it's absolutely
- 4:19amazing. They do want for children as
- 4:21well. But I am going to leave you a
- 4:22code if you want to check out. Brilliant you can do at the link
- 4:25down below, but use the code as B-15 if you want to get 15% off.
- 4:28Super awesome and I highly recommend it.
- 4:30OK guys on the video. OK, so #3 is create a
- 4:34microcontrolled environment. Now microcontrolling is kind of
- 4:38like, say you are trying to get your kid to the store because
- 4:41you want to go get groceries and you want to go to the store and
- 4:43say to your kid, hey, let's go to the store.
- 4:45Now your kid is going to freak out because they are losing
- 4:47control of their environment. They were at home playing
- 4:49Minecraft all ice and cozy, and all of a sudden now they're
- 4:51going into the car and then get to the store.
- 4:53It's crazy, right? But if you said to them, hey,
- 4:55you get to control the temperature in the car, you get
- 4:58to control the music in the car. You get to control which parking
- 5:04space we go to in the car park or the parking lot or wherever
- 5:08you go. So what you do is you create
- 5:09micro environments, like what toy do you want to bring with
- 5:12you? What sensory tool do you want to
- 5:13bring with you? What clothes do you want to
- 5:15wear? What is it that you can give the
- 5:17person to control or you can control yourself in an
- 5:19environment that seems uncontrollable.
- 5:21This is a key to many areas of life from an autistic person,
- 5:24but it's super important when you're dealing with change.
- 5:26OK, so #4 is something that people always forget.
- 5:29And this is the bonus tip guys. Now, this is providing
- 5:31reassurance and support. The difficulties that artistic
- 5:34people face dearly is crazy, right?
- 5:36But we hardly ever have people validate us and reassure us that
- 5:39it's OK. It's completely fine.
- 5:42We understand. We get this panic from the other
- 5:44people, like, Oh my gosh, what do we do?
- 5:45What do we do? And then people ask me, what can
- 5:47we do to help them? Like, I don't know.
- 5:48I just need validation on a moment in time.
- 5:50I need support and reassurance, that evidence we find and
- 5:52somebody needs to take control and just chill.
- 5:54Because when an event happens that you're feeling difficulties
- 5:57from like your meltdown, your meltdown because of change or
- 6:00something, you know, the transition didn't go well.
- 6:02It's because you are feeling out of control.
- 6:05Now you meet somebody to take control and say everything's
- 6:07gonna be fine. Super, really easy one to do.
- 6:10People always forget this one, but I know that it's effective
- 6:13and I know how this works. Guys, if you found this
- 6:14educational and helpful, please share it on Facebook and any
- 6:17other social media account you think of.
- 6:19And also give it a like if you enjoyed this video.
- 6:21OK guys, I'll see you in the next one.
