- 0:00Speaker 1: Leading over all miam I.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Birdland. Welcome in latest edition of Birdland Territory, which we
- 0:11Speaker 2: start on a down note. The Orioles today in Cincinnati
- 0:15Speaker 2: had their seventh try for a four game winning streak
- 0:20Speaker 2: and they ro zero and seven. Spoiler alert, they just
- 0:23Speaker 2: cannot get a four game winning streak. Frustrating loss today
- 0:27Speaker 2: three to two to the Reds. Kyle Bradish pitched a
- 0:31Speaker 2: gym but the offense wasn't getting it done and Nick
- 0:34Speaker 2: Lodolo had his way with the Oriols left handed for
- 0:36Speaker 2: the Red So guys, frustration on top of frustration for
- 0:40Speaker 2: Birdland right now, the players, everybody, because the team was
- 0:45Speaker 2: having a great weekend and couldn't seal the deal. When
- 0:49Speaker 2: it gets to seven, it's almost a metal block you
- 0:52Speaker 2: got to get. You got to get a four game
- 0:54Speaker 2: streak in there somewhere, and we're ninety games in and
- 0:57Speaker 2: they just can't do it right now.
- 0:59Speaker 3: Yeah, it's and I think it's kind of shows where
- 1:02Speaker 3: the record's at at this point. It's when you can't
- 1:04Speaker 3: win four games in a row, it's really hard to
- 1:05Speaker 3: kind of get over that hump and get back.
- 1:08Speaker 4: Closer to five hundred.
- 1:09Speaker 3: So it's as good as the weekend was because they
- 1:12Speaker 3: won it. It's as frustrating as it was because they
- 1:14Speaker 3: can't close the deal and get that sweet to move
- 1:17Speaker 3: to four straight games.
- 1:18Speaker 4: And it was.
- 1:19Speaker 3: Frustrating day today just not being able to get the
- 1:22Speaker 3: time run in and other opportunities missed earlier in the
- 1:25Speaker 3: game and stuff like that. So it's kind of where
- 1:27Speaker 3: they are at right now, and it's definitely frustrating.
- 1:31Speaker 1: We know that baseball is a very superstitious sport. I
- 1:35Speaker 1: don't know if the team needs to do something different
- 1:38Speaker 1: heading into this next chance that they get going for
- 1:41Speaker 1: four straight, but something they need to do, something to
- 1:43Speaker 1: change up the vibe, guys, because it certainly seemed like
- 1:47Speaker 1: this was one of their best chances of the seven.
- 1:50Speaker 1: For sure. You're going against the Reds team that really
- 1:53Speaker 1: struggled coming in and guys, I know, especially of late,
- 1:56Speaker 1: the defense has really really struggled. The defense was really
- 2:00Speaker 1: good in this series. You had Kyle Bradish on the
- 2:02Speaker 1: mound today. He was perfect through the first four innings
- 2:05Speaker 1: and he ended up making a mistake issuing a lead
- 2:08Speaker 1: off walk, and then the very next batter, you know,
- 2:10Speaker 1: he lost the perfect game, lost to no hitter in
- 2:12Speaker 1: the span of two plate appearances. But it's it's frustrating, man.
- 2:18Speaker 1: You know, they really needed to build some momentum heading
- 2:21Speaker 1: into the All Star Break, and you lost the first
- 2:24Speaker 1: two series in that homestand and yes, she won this
- 2:28Speaker 1: series over the weekend, but man, it would have been
- 2:31Speaker 1: great to just win that fourth straight.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Yes, it would have for sure, and the Oils fall
- 2:37Speaker 2: to forty two and forty nine. Now, I'm sure as
- 2:39Speaker 2: they're not going to have a five hundred record at
- 2:41Speaker 2: the All Star break. I think we already knew that,
- 2:43Speaker 2: although the math now doesn't work for him. If they
- 2:45Speaker 2: went six to zero on this homestand they'd still be
- 2:48Speaker 2: under So guys, for me, here's a common denominator in
- 2:51Speaker 2: this zero and seven. The Oriols had scored fourteen runs
- 2:54Speaker 2: in those seven games and today got just two. So
- 2:57Speaker 2: they just aren't getting offense. And that is common denominator
- 3:01Speaker 2: through these seven cracks at it that didn't get it
- 3:04Speaker 2: done today, and today I was a little frustrated with
- 3:07Speaker 2: the approaches. And it'll be interesting to hear Alburn as
- 3:11Speaker 2: his post game wasn't on MASS and so we didn't
- 3:13Speaker 2: get to watch the postgame interview as we normally do.
- 3:15Speaker 2: A Peacock game today. There was a lot of chasing,
- 3:19Speaker 2: That's what I saw.
- 3:21Speaker 3: How about you, guys, Yeah, definitely a lot of chasing
- 3:25Speaker 3: and just kind of not using the full field trying
- 3:27Speaker 3: to pull. And I think when you play in a
- 3:29Speaker 3: smaller stadium like Cincinnati, you kind of get homer happy.
- 3:33Speaker 3: I've noticed that with teams I've played on before, where
- 3:36Speaker 3: the ball pens to fly at that stadium. The guys
- 3:38Speaker 3: know that if you get one up in the air,
- 3:40Speaker 3: it's got a chance to go out. So sometimes approaches
- 3:43Speaker 3: can be funky there for a three game series, and
- 3:46Speaker 3: that's kind of just what I saw. It just kind
- 3:48Speaker 3: of guys get a little bit too aggressive, trying to
- 3:51Speaker 3: kind of hit the long ball instead of just staying
- 3:53Speaker 3: in themselves. And if you get more bats like Blaise
- 3:57Speaker 3: Alexander had, I mean, they'd have a lot more runs.
- 4:00Speaker 3: SEMs to really do a great job of just hitting
- 4:02Speaker 3: the pitches where they're thrown, not trying to do too
- 4:04Speaker 3: much with it, and he keeps the innings going in
- 4:06Speaker 3: rallies going.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Yeah, Blaze, it has just been fantastic for them guys.
- 4:11Speaker 1: I mean, still leading the majors in batting average since
- 4:14Speaker 1: made first, but his runners in scoring position numbers have
- 4:17Speaker 1: been really really good. But Steve, there were a couple
- 4:19Speaker 1: of instances in the game today where a walk was
- 4:23Speaker 1: issued or back to back walks were issuing. I think
- 4:25Speaker 1: Leoti Taveras had one of these at bats in particular,
- 4:28Speaker 1: where you're going and you're hacking after you know, you
- 4:32Speaker 1: just saw these prior to play appearances where the pitcher
- 4:35Speaker 1: like he didn't have command at that stage of the game,
- 4:39Speaker 1: and you're going up there hack and trying to, you know,
- 4:41Speaker 1: hit an eight run home run, if you will. And
- 4:45Speaker 1: those are the type of things that are definitely very frustrating,
- 4:48Speaker 1: and it seems like you can tell early on in
- 4:51Speaker 1: games how it could go for this offense. And right
- 4:55Speaker 1: after Bradish ended up giving up that two run homer,
- 4:58Speaker 1: with how the offense was looking at that point, it
- 5:01Speaker 1: felt like much more than just a two run lead.
- 5:05Speaker 2: He had did some frustrating at bats today, you know. Jackson,
- 5:08Speaker 2: Jeremiah Jackson chased one low to strike out with the
- 5:13Speaker 2: bases loaded to end the sixth. In his defense, the
- 5:16Speaker 2: guy's been great with the bases loaded this year. Fourth
- 5:19Speaker 2: for eighties, hit two Grand slams. He is a free swinger.
- 5:22Speaker 2: We know that, and he get run into one. We
- 5:24Speaker 2: know that, and he didn't in this case today, So
- 5:27Speaker 2: I guess you take the good with the bad when
- 5:29Speaker 2: you have an aggressive hitter who kind of lets you
- 5:32Speaker 2: fly up there.
- 5:34Speaker 4: Yeah, definitely.
- 5:35Speaker 3: I think it's just kind of I mean, we seeing
- 5:37Speaker 3: jeremih Jackson play here, we know that he's not really
- 5:40Speaker 3: a walk guy.
- 5:41Speaker 4: He's not gonna work the count guy.
- 5:42Speaker 3: He's kind of go there, get his pitch and try
- 5:45Speaker 3: to hit a long way. And sometimes when your utility
- 5:47Speaker 3: infielder like he is and just coming back from triple
- 5:51Speaker 3: A too, I believe here recently.
- 5:52Speaker 4: So it's, you know.
- 5:55Speaker 3: Just's he is who he is, and he's kind of
- 5:57Speaker 3: player he is, and he just kind of hope he
- 5:59Speaker 3: runs into one. Everyone while it's almost like backup catchers
- 6:01Speaker 3: back when I was playing, you kind of hope they
- 6:03Speaker 3: run into one, hit a few homers here and there,
- 6:04Speaker 3: and play good defense. And that's kind of what he does.
- 6:06Speaker 3: And I think he's done a really good job this year.
- 6:08Speaker 3: But yeah, he's a free swinger and sometimes just gets
- 6:11Speaker 3: a little bit too aggressive out of his own.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Yeah, guys, the numbers don't lie. He's got four walks
- 6:16Speaker 1: all season oning you know, he's not exactly going up
- 6:19Speaker 1: there with a Taylor Ward type approach, particularly from from
- 6:23Speaker 1: a few weeks ago, especially when Ward was really looking
- 6:26Speaker 1: to walk. But yeah, and with Jeremiah Jackson, it's also
- 6:29Speaker 1: a tough situation too, where you know, ever since Jackson
- 6:32Speaker 1: holiday came back, especially at that point, you saw the
- 6:35Speaker 1: playtime really diminished for him and just kind of playing
- 6:38Speaker 1: a lot more sporadic, ended up getting sent down and
- 6:41Speaker 1: then called back up. But yeah, I mean, you just
- 6:45Speaker 1: gotta read the situation better, you know, in that particular moment.
- 6:51Speaker 2: So the Oriels are forty two and forty nine, this
- 6:54Speaker 2: one hurts just six and fourteen in one run games
- 6:58Speaker 2: and their three game winning stream ends. They're now seven
- 7:01Speaker 2: and seven of the last fourteen, eighteen and twenty six
- 7:04Speaker 2: on the road. A lot to get to this edition
- 7:06Speaker 2: of Birdland Territory. Adley Rutchman's an all Star. We're certainly
- 7:10Speaker 2: going to note that Kyle Bradish was great today. We're
- 7:13Speaker 2: certainly going to note that. And when we come back
- 7:15Speaker 2: in aspect of the trade deadline, to ponder that was
- 7:19Speaker 2: pondered in the Baltimore Sun article recently, we'll touch you
- 7:22Speaker 2: on that coming up on this edition up Birdland Territory.

- 8:42Speaker 2: this is an interesting article. Our buddy, Jacob Calvin Meyer
- 8:45Speaker 2: and The Baltimore Sun wrote recently about the trade deadline,
- 8:49Speaker 2: essentially saying, should a team trade for a rental that's
- 8:53Speaker 2: got this poor of a record and give up a
- 8:56Speaker 2: future piece for hope? You know, two months of a
- 8:59Speaker 2: player hope can put them over the top. So there's
- 9:03Speaker 2: a couple sides of this. The oriels are forty two
- 9:05Speaker 2: and forty nine. They don't look like a contender, Ali
- 9:08Speaker 2: Birdland says. Captain Obvious tells us that the standings tell
- 9:13Speaker 2: us they are a contender due to the math. So
- 9:16Speaker 2: what do you wait here? I mean, if you're only
- 9:18Speaker 2: if we're two weeks to go, they're within a game
- 9:21Speaker 2: or two of the final Wild card even under five hundred.
- 9:26Speaker 2: That's where a Renald might put you over the top
- 9:28Speaker 2: if you only need to gain a couple of games
- 9:30Speaker 2: at the same time. If you make that trade and
- 9:33Speaker 2: give up a future piece for two months of a player,
- 9:36Speaker 2: and you finish with seventy six wins, again, it will
- 9:39Speaker 2: in retrospect look foolish. So I get Jacob's thought process
- 9:44Speaker 2: of that article.
- 9:46Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely. I think I kind of tend to lean
- 9:49Speaker 3: towards what Jacob's saying with this. I've seen it play out.
- 9:52Speaker 3: When I was in Baltimore, we traded for Ferrara Partero.
- 9:55Speaker 3: We traded away Kyle eighties. He was the starter who
- 9:58Speaker 3: ended up pitching for a long time. Andrew Military is
- 10:01Speaker 3: a little different. I think we got what was a
- 10:04Speaker 3: worthy piece with Andrew Miller. He got us to the
- 10:06Speaker 3: al the CS that year for Eduarro Rigaz. So it's
- 10:10Speaker 3: to me, it's if you're willing to for rental to
- 10:14Speaker 3: kind of give up a piece that's going to help
- 10:15Speaker 3: you maybe down the line. It's just it's tough, and
- 10:18Speaker 3: it's I think it's more so do you think this
- 10:21Speaker 3: team can win the World Series? If you think they
- 10:23Speaker 3: can win the World Series, with a piece. I think
- 10:25Speaker 3: it's a different conversation to have. But I just don't
- 10:27Speaker 3: know if that's the case. I hate to say, I
- 10:29Speaker 3: don't know they think that's the case right now. So it's, yeah,
- 10:32Speaker 3: you want to give yourself a chance to get in
- 10:33Speaker 3: the playoffs, and anything can happen when you get there.
- 10:35Speaker 3: But I just think giving up, you know, something for
- 10:38Speaker 3: the future for something right now just kind of doesn't
- 10:41Speaker 3: really seem to make sense.
- 10:42Speaker 1: It's it's a very difficult situation. And Michael Oas when
- 10:47Speaker 1: he met with the media a week or so ago,
- 10:50Speaker 1: you know, he said that he had intentions of buying,
- 10:53Speaker 1: but he's also going to do what's best for the
- 10:55Speaker 1: future of this organization. And I just don't know if
- 10:59Speaker 1: they would be prudent for them to really buy and
- 11:03Speaker 1: push their chips to the center of the table considering
- 11:06Speaker 1: where they're at right now. And I know they're still
- 11:09Speaker 1: in it, certainly, just four games out of the wildcard picture,
- 11:12Speaker 1: but I just question, is this team a player too
- 11:16Speaker 1: a way? I just don't know if that's the case.
- 11:18Speaker 1: And I think if this team does go on a
- 11:21Speaker 1: run like Gunnar Henderson's got to do it, you know,
- 11:24Speaker 1: like they're big players have to do it. And their
- 11:27Speaker 1: starting rotation has been really good over the past month,
- 11:30Speaker 1: and that's awesome, but this offense has to be playing
- 11:34Speaker 1: up to their expectations. I mean that the bullpens certainly
- 11:37Speaker 1: needs some help right now. You know, Hellsley, that sounds
- 11:40Speaker 1: like a very honest situation, and Greg Alburn has admitted,
- 11:44Speaker 1: you know how concerned he was when that happened. But Steve,
- 11:48Speaker 1: I just don't know, especially considering this farm system isn't
- 11:52Speaker 1: as strong as it was a couple of years ago
- 11:54Speaker 1: as well. I don't know if I would buy a rental.
- 12:02Speaker 2: It's they're really between a rock and hearten. Yes, because
- 12:07Speaker 2: they're not a team to tear it down and start over.
- 12:11Speaker 2: That's not happening here. But they don't seem to be
- 12:13Speaker 2: a piece or two away from being an elite team either.
- 12:17Speaker 2: They're in that middle of the road. That's kind of frustrating.
- 12:20Speaker 2: They've got Alonzo signed for five, bas signed for five,
- 12:25Speaker 2: but Scio signed for eight. Some of their future is
- 12:28Speaker 2: already set, so to me, somehow they have to make
- 12:33Speaker 2: deals to build around what they have and make it
- 12:37Speaker 2: better while they wait for some of these pitching prospects,
- 12:40Speaker 2: Jerwa and Gibson and Nesta Herman and Luis de Leon.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Will some of these guys come along and one or
- 12:48Speaker 2: two be a difference maker. It's daunting because right now
- 12:52Speaker 2: they're on out of position player prospects setting the world
- 12:55Speaker 2: on fire, and the O's farm. There's just no one
- 12:57Speaker 2: coming right now. I mean, curse, that's it better. But
- 13:00Speaker 2: he's not tearing it up a triple A. He's swinging it. Okay,
- 13:03Speaker 2: it's not gonna save the season here. So I just
- 13:06Speaker 2: think it's such an challenging time even to make decisions
- 13:11Speaker 2: on what to do.
- 13:14Speaker 4: Yeah, and I.
- 13:14Speaker 3: Agree with what Tim said before with if this team
- 13:17Speaker 3: is going to turn around, it's not gonna be from
- 13:19Speaker 3: somebody off the roster. It's got to be guys stepping
- 13:21Speaker 3: up on the roster. To me, that's just there's too
- 13:24Speaker 3: much talent there. We've talked about this, I mean at nauseuma,
- 13:28Speaker 3: just how the talent is there. They should be winny
- 13:31Speaker 3: more games than they are. And if this team is
- 13:33Speaker 3: going to turn around, it's not gonna be going to
- 13:35Speaker 3: get somebody. It's gonna be them turning it around themselves
- 13:38Speaker 3: on the roster. Like you said, Gunner getting hot till
- 13:41Speaker 3: the Ward hitting some homers, Pete still doing what he does,
- 13:44Speaker 3: Adley continue to do what he does, and then it's
- 13:46Speaker 3: just kind of everybody do it together. To me, that
- 13:48Speaker 3: just seems more of a plausible scenario than going out
- 13:52Speaker 3: and getting somebody and having them kind of come in
- 13:54Speaker 3: and save the season.
- 13:56Speaker 1: And I think Brad made a great point, and I
- 13:59Speaker 1: was going to bring up the Andrew Miller trade, where
- 14:01Speaker 1: you look, you make that trade with the Red Sox
- 14:03Speaker 1: and at Wardo Rodriguez had a really good career. But
- 14:07Speaker 1: I still would have done that trade, even knowing the
- 14:09Speaker 1: outcome one hundred out of one hundred times, because that
- 14:12Speaker 1: was a team that was going for that was a
- 14:14Speaker 1: really really good team. You're adding on to what was
- 14:17Speaker 1: already a big time strength in that bullpen right now.
- 14:20Speaker 1: I just think, guys, the reality is when we're having
- 14:25Speaker 1: these episodes and having these conversations and we're asking, you know,
- 14:28Speaker 1: at times, what is the identity of this team? Well,
- 14:32Speaker 1: we're ninety one games into the season. You know, if
- 14:35Speaker 1: we're still having those questions and the question of whether
- 14:40Speaker 1: to bai is there, I think you kind of already
- 14:43Speaker 1: know the answer, you know, and look, maybe they are
- 14:46Speaker 1: able to go on a huge run in these next
- 14:48Speaker 1: seventy some games, but it's going to have to be
- 14:52Speaker 1: because their stars are playing like stars.
- 14:56Speaker 2: Maybe, And this might frustrate people the most. It's a
- 15:00Speaker 2: stand pat decision in the end, ultimately, because why mortgage
- 15:05Speaker 2: the future? But yet there's really one or two pieces away.
- 15:10Speaker 2: They don't seem to be and we keep saying the
- 15:13Speaker 2: talent's there, so prove it. You've got seventy games to
- 15:18Speaker 2: prove it, guys and all. Everybody's doubting you right now
- 15:21Speaker 2: because we've watched ninety one games of this. So it
- 15:24Speaker 2: is a crazy time in Birdland to figure out which
- 15:28Speaker 2: way they're going to go, how this is going to
- 15:30Speaker 2: play out. It's not dull, never as dull. It might
- 15:34Speaker 2: be frustrating. They're dull, not dull, but frustrating. That's definitely
- 15:38Speaker 2: what it is, all right, Birdland Territory Continuing here time
- 15:47Speaker 2: now for our Daily Dinger is presented by Fan dol
- 15:51Speaker 2: And I can think of a good player to nominate
- 15:54Speaker 2: here to hit one out this week in this homestand
- 15:57Speaker 2: coming up, and he is the Oils All Star catcher,
- 16:00Speaker 2: Adlie Rutchman. He's just having a heck of a bounce
- 16:04Speaker 2: back year. And we know the math on Reutchman the
- 16:06Speaker 2: ops was seven O nine and twenty four and it
- 16:09Speaker 2: was six seventy three last year. You know, it was
- 16:12Speaker 2: really a tough year. So now he's one hundred points
- 16:14Speaker 2: over that. He's gone to the All Star Game for
- 16:17Speaker 2: the third time in four games. He's really swinging it
- 16:19Speaker 2: from the left, from the right. The defensive metrics are
- 16:22Speaker 2: great too. Got to praise this guy for the year
- 16:25Speaker 2: he's having and give him a little bit of a
- 16:27Speaker 2: hack tip here for third All Star in four games,
- 16:31Speaker 2: four years, third All Star appearance in four years.
- 16:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, he's done a little bit of everything
- 16:37Speaker 3: this year for this team. He's been great behind the plate.
- 16:40Speaker 3: You can tell he really works with the pitchers and
- 16:42Speaker 3: wants them to do well when they're out there, and
- 16:44Speaker 3: I think that goes a long way.
- 16:46Speaker 4: Auburn has had.
- 16:46Speaker 3: I mean, his statement yesterday has kind of said it
- 16:49Speaker 3: all about just what he brings to the team and
- 16:52Speaker 3: what he means this organization. In the pitching, like I said,
- 16:55Speaker 3: pitching staff, hitting side of things, he just really does
- 16:57Speaker 3: a great job. But when you look at that list
- 16:59Speaker 3: of number one overall picks who make three out of
- 17:01Speaker 3: four All Star Games, that list is unbelievably impressive. So
- 17:05Speaker 3: for him to go down as one of the guys
- 17:07Speaker 3: on that, congrats to him, and it's just it's a
- 17:11Speaker 3: great bounce back season for him, and I'm really happy
- 17:13Speaker 3: to see him doing as well as he is this year.
- 17:16Speaker 1: He was really under the microscope heading into this year.
- 17:19Speaker 1: This felt like such a pivotal season for quite frankly
- 17:23Speaker 1: guys his career because we know that he's under control
- 17:26Speaker 1: through twenty twenty seven, but he needed to turn this
- 17:29Speaker 1: thing back in the right direction because when he got
- 17:32Speaker 1: brought up, that was the turnaround. That was when the
- 17:35Speaker 1: rebuild was done. The Orioles started winning, and the Orioles
- 17:39Speaker 1: for the most part, have really gone as he is gone.
- 17:42Speaker 1: You know, twenty three, it was an All Star they
- 17:44Speaker 1: won one hundred games, twenty four In the first half.
- 17:47Speaker 1: He was fantastic and the Orioles were great in the
- 17:49Speaker 1: first half, and then had a year and a half
- 17:52Speaker 1: Lowell and the team really struggled for that year and
- 17:55Speaker 1: a half. So I think the question was was that
- 17:57Speaker 1: old Adley Rutchman still in him? And he has really
- 18:00Speaker 1: answered that question. With a big yes with several exclamation points,
- 18:06Speaker 1: because he's been fantastic defensively. He's been really really good offensively. Guys,
- 18:12Speaker 1: he's got forty five RBIs in sixty games, like he's
- 18:16Speaker 1: second on the team in RBI's and he's had two
- 18:19Speaker 1: il stints, so he's really been a run producer this year.
- 18:24Speaker 2: So the Ools have just one All Star. The Braves, Dodgers,
- 18:28Speaker 2: and Phillies have five each to leave MLB. The Al
- 18:32Speaker 2: East comes in next four each for the Yankees, Blue
- 18:35Speaker 2: Jays and Tampa and the Ools for the second year
- 18:37Speaker 2: in a row, have just won Ryan O'Hearn last year.
- 18:40Speaker 2: Could be more, it could be replacements. Maybe Pete Lonzok
- 18:44Speaker 2: is go get laid attention here. Laddie. I don't think
- 18:46Speaker 2: he's going to go, so there might be an opening there.
- 18:49Speaker 2: But there are people who said, if you have one
- 18:52Speaker 2: catcher locked up for eight years and the other is
- 18:55Speaker 2: a free agent at the end of next year, that's
- 18:59Speaker 2: where the rumors come up of trade at Rutchman. Now,
- 19:02Speaker 2: michae Elias did not come out and say we will
- 19:04Speaker 2: never trade this guy, but he did come out and
- 19:07Speaker 2: say I hope he's an Oriel forever, and we wish
- 19:09Speaker 2: we had a longer commitment with him than we currently have.
- 19:12Speaker 2: That was probably the strongest wording I think Elias could
- 19:16Speaker 2: have said to the fact that it doesn't seem very
- 19:20Speaker 2: likely at all that this guy's going to be involved
- 19:22Speaker 2: in trade talks.
- 19:24Speaker 3: Yeah, and I just really find a hard to believe
- 19:27Speaker 3: that they're gonna find somebody to trade him to this year.
- 19:30Speaker 3: Whether I think the off season would be more of
- 19:32Speaker 3: a if you had the opportunity to do it, The
- 19:34Speaker 3: off season seems to make more sense just because you
- 19:37Speaker 3: have more time to think about and kind of teams are,
- 19:41Speaker 3: you know, building their rosters there. It's a lot of
- 19:43Speaker 3: times if they also break are at the trade deadline,
- 19:45Speaker 3: I just feel like you don't get the full value
- 19:46Speaker 3: that you would with somebody. But yeah, I just think
- 19:50Speaker 3: at this point it's hard to see this roster without
- 19:53Speaker 3: Ali Rushman on it. I don't know, it's just it
- 19:55Speaker 3: would just be weird not seeing him in an Oil's uniform.
- 19:59Speaker 3: And if the team goes on a run here, it
- 20:02Speaker 3: would just be weird him not being on the team.
- 20:04Speaker 4: If they go on to run and get to the playoffs.
- 20:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, if they go on to run. At
- 20:08Speaker 1: Lea's playing a big, big role in the reason why
- 20:11Speaker 1: they're going on a run. But if they go in
- 20:13Speaker 1: the opposite direction, those you know, murmurs are only going
- 20:18Speaker 1: to get louder about Adley Rutchman. And I want to
- 20:20Speaker 1: make this abundantly clear. I am not saying if I'm
- 20:23Speaker 1: Michael Oyas and they were out of it, I'm shopping him.
- 20:25Speaker 1: I'm doing all But I think you have to listen
- 20:28Speaker 1: and if a team does blow you away with a
- 20:32Speaker 1: crazy offer for Adley Rutchman, you know then you have
- 20:36Speaker 1: to at least be willing to consider that. But it's
- 20:39Speaker 1: going to be very interesting, and I'm sure that Michael
- 20:42Speaker 1: Oyas is going to get calls on him now, whether
- 20:44Speaker 1: he if he acts on them or not. We shall see.
- 20:49Speaker 2: Four Oriel catchers since the Oriels moved to Baltimore nineteen
- 20:53Speaker 2: fifty four have made more than one All Star Game.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Andy Etchebaron may too, by the way, May he rest
- 20:59Speaker 2: in peace East the great number eight before cal As,
- 21:02Speaker 2: indieche Brin used to tell me back in the day,
- 21:05Speaker 2: I was eight before Cow and he was he made two.
- 21:08Speaker 2: Of course, Adley's now made three. Gustriandos made three Matt
- 21:12Speaker 2: Wieders four time All Star twenty eleven, twelve, fourteen, and
- 21:16Speaker 2: sixteen as an oriole catcher. So we're picking Adlie for

- 21:48Speaker 2: And now Kyle Bradish what an outing seven and two
- 21:51Speaker 2: thirds today and is three to two loss. It's the
- 21:54Speaker 2: fifth time this year and eighteenth in his career he's
- 21:57Speaker 2: gone seven or more. He gave up the two run
- 21:59Speaker 2: home in the fifth, but not much else. He was
- 22:02Speaker 2: perfect through four on thirty five pitches to get twelve outs.
- 22:06Speaker 2: Then it got the blow bumpy and the fifth. What
- 22:10Speaker 2: did you guys think of that outing today in Cincinnati?
- 22:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it was really good and I think,
- 22:16Speaker 3: you know the shrekouts aren't what we're normally used to seeing,
- 22:19Speaker 3: but he was having bad contact all I felt like
- 22:21Speaker 3: all the entire game and just kind of you know.
- 22:24Speaker 4: Getting ahead of guys and put him away quick.
- 22:26Speaker 3: And he was really efficient and anytime you were able
- 22:29Speaker 3: to go into the eight thing, especially in today's game,
- 22:31Speaker 3: it's it's something special. So he I thought he did
- 22:34Speaker 3: a great job. Unfortunately there when you know Auburn As
- 22:37Speaker 3: went out, I feel like he convinced them to give
- 22:39Speaker 3: him one more batter and it didn't work out, unfortunately,
- 22:41Speaker 3: but at that point it was his game. You got
- 22:43Speaker 3: to give it to him, and I think that was
- 22:45Speaker 3: that was a cool moment to see, you know, him
- 22:48Speaker 3: come out maybe considering taking him out, and Kyle Brash
- 22:51Speaker 3: convinced his way to staying there. Like I said, it
- 22:53Speaker 3: didn't work out, but to me, that was that was
- 22:55Speaker 3: his game to win or lose, and just a great
- 22:57Speaker 3: game for him pitching it. Just the offense wasn't there
- 22:59Speaker 3: to help him out.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Today, Kyle Bradish is on man, He's he's a lot
- 23:04Speaker 1: of fun to watch, right like he like you're saying, Steve,
- 23:07Speaker 1: he was just so pitch efficient to start that game,
- 23:10Speaker 1: and you know he was really leaning into the curve
- 23:12Speaker 1: ball as the game ended up going on. But Bradish
- 23:16Speaker 1: is a special, special talent, you know, just just the
- 23:19Speaker 1: repertoire of pitches that he has and when he is
- 23:22Speaker 1: able to get that swing and miss and go deep
- 23:24Speaker 1: into games, and look, I do not regret, you know,
- 23:28Speaker 1: Albert has his decision to give him that. I think
- 23:30Speaker 1: Kyle Bradish certainly did earn that. It's just a shame
- 23:33Speaker 1: that he wasn't able to get any run support. I mean,
- 23:36Speaker 1: with how well that he was pitching today, that was
- 23:39Speaker 1: a winning start out of Bradish, but unfortunately it was
- 23:44Speaker 1: one in the lost column.
- 23:45Speaker 2: Seven times his career he's pitched into the eighth one
- 23:48Speaker 2: off his pitch career high of one oh seven September second,
- 23:52Speaker 2: twenty twenty three at Arizona, So he went over one
- 23:55Speaker 2: hundred innings by an out or two. Today. During the
- 23:59Speaker 2: telecast doing Peacock, if I heard Ben McDonald wright, he
- 24:02Speaker 2: said something about one hundred and thirty hundred and forty
- 24:06Speaker 2: if that's all he's allowed to throw, I don't think
- 24:09Speaker 2: that gets him this September. For me, I see Bradish
- 24:13Speaker 2: ending with more than that, and right now it seems
- 24:17Speaker 2: to be just damn the torpedoes full speed ahead on
- 24:20Speaker 2: this guy. He's looks strong as can be, knocking on
- 24:24Speaker 2: wood hard when we say that, because they need this
- 24:27Speaker 2: guy for this year and beyond, Yeah, I.
- 24:30Speaker 4: Think we kind of got into it a little bit.
- 24:31Speaker 3: I would have been surprised if it was one fifty ish,
- 24:33Speaker 3: I'd say where he would probably end up. And I
- 24:36Speaker 3: just think when you get to one fifty, that gives
- 24:37Speaker 3: him a chance to get to about one eighty one
- 24:39Speaker 3: ninety next year if he's healthy and all goes well.
- 24:42Speaker 3: So I think it's just kind of more a benchmark.
- 24:44Speaker 3: And I'm sure the Ools won't tell everybody what they're
- 24:47Speaker 3: playing is, but there is a definite plan with him,
- 24:50Speaker 3: I'm sure, And right now I just think he's pitching
- 24:52Speaker 3: so well. It's it's kind of like we talked about,
- 24:54Speaker 3: do you go to six man rotation?
- 24:56Speaker 4: Do you not pitch him?
- 24:58Speaker 3: But it's we're trying to get back in the playoff phrase.
- 25:00Speaker 3: He's one of our best pitchers, and did we just
- 25:02Speaker 3: let him go to one hundred and fifty and then
- 25:03Speaker 3: shut them down from there or it would be interesting
- 25:05Speaker 3: to see how they played out. Is kind of what
- 25:07Speaker 3: I'm what I'm getting at.
- 25:09Speaker 1: I mean, heck, like, even if you're just looking at
- 25:11Speaker 1: this the rest of the way, guys, there's six more games.
- 25:15Speaker 1: You have the off day on Monday, Like, do you
- 25:18Speaker 1: skip a start? Was this his last start, you know,
- 25:21Speaker 1: prior to the All Star break? And what does it
- 25:24Speaker 1: look like on the other side, As we've mentioned the Orioles,
- 25:27Speaker 1: they had a lot of off days in July, so
- 25:29Speaker 1: it makes it more difficult to go to a six
- 25:32Speaker 1: man rotation. But we're going to see trade Gibson again,
- 25:35Speaker 1: and I firmly believe that they're going to go to
- 25:38Speaker 1: a six man rotation at some point. This is going
- 25:41Speaker 1: to be a big storyline down the stretch. And look,
- 25:44Speaker 1: you know, in a worst absolute worst case scenario, if
- 25:47Speaker 1: the Orioles were out of it late in the season,
- 25:49Speaker 1: then obviously it makes that decision much easier for the
- 25:53Speaker 1: club where you could just shut him down. But like
- 25:55Speaker 1: you're saying, Steve, with how he pitches and the potential
- 25:59Speaker 1: that Kyle Bradish has to give a team a win
- 26:02Speaker 1: every fifth day, like you're in a tough spot because
- 26:06Speaker 1: you want to ride him.
- 26:08Speaker 2: They did today and boy, sure pitch well enough to
- 26:11Speaker 2: win in a three two oh's loss the Oriels two
- 26:15Speaker 2: wins this weekend. We're saved by todter Wells. He is
- 26:19Speaker 2: the new closer. It looks like we'll touch you on
- 26:21Speaker 2: that in a moment.

- 26:34Speaker 1: Subscribe for daily Short's right to your phone and.
- 26:36Speaker 5: Never miss what you missed one O five seven The Fan.
- 26:42Speaker 2: Todder Wells is having a heck of the Oriol Polpenny
- 26:44Speaker 2: now has seven career saves. He got two in Cincinnati
- 26:48Speaker 2: Friday and Saturday, three oh two e r A one
- 26:51Speaker 2: O five six, whip two point two walk per nine
- 26:54Speaker 2: nine point three k all. These numbers are really good.
- 26:58Speaker 2: And his last eleven games he's a out one run
- 27:00Speaker 2: in fourteen to the third. I mean plus to me,
- 27:04Speaker 2: beyond this material to be a good closer, he has
- 27:08Speaker 2: the mentality to do it. I just think he looks
- 27:11Speaker 2: like he wants the ball.
- 27:14Speaker 4: Yeah, that's what I was going to say too, Steve.
- 27:16Speaker 4: Is that to me?
- 27:16Speaker 3: It's his mentality. I mean it's a come at you
- 27:19Speaker 3: guy with his stuff, and yeah, he doesn't blow you
- 27:22Speaker 3: away with fastball, but he knows how to pitch, and
- 27:23Speaker 3: he does a really good job at getting after hitters
- 27:26Speaker 3: the way he knows how to And.
- 27:28Speaker 4: It kind of took a little time to get there,
- 27:31Speaker 4: but it kind of.
- 27:32Speaker 3: Played out how we thought there he'd be pitching beginnings
- 27:34Speaker 3: in the back of the bullpen. You know, they started
- 27:37Speaker 3: out at the beginning of the year, him wanting to
- 27:39Speaker 3: be the setup man. It didn't really quite work out
- 27:41Speaker 3: that way, went down a triple A, but came back
- 27:43Speaker 3: and he's having a phenomenal season and he's really he's
- 27:46Speaker 3: worked really well to get himself back into a good
- 27:49Speaker 3: spot and to finish the year with really good stats
- 27:52Speaker 3: for an entire year, and it's it's great.
- 27:53Speaker 4: Scared to see him.
- 27:54Speaker 3: Go out there and be the closer and get two
- 27:56Speaker 3: opportunities right out of the gate and convert both of them.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Yeah, Tyler Wells he's a bulldog man. He's a lot
- 28:04Speaker 1: of fun to see pitch, and he's a weapon for
- 28:07Speaker 1: this pen. And I think we were all kind of
- 28:09Speaker 1: wondering who was going to be the closer in this
- 28:12Speaker 1: interim with Hellsley sidelined again due to elbow injury, is
- 28:16Speaker 1: it going to be a closer by committee. Are they
- 28:18Speaker 1: going to have a set role while Wells got the
- 28:20Speaker 1: save and back to back days Friday and Saturday. And
- 28:24Speaker 1: it's kind of funny, Steve, like he's almost going full
- 28:27Speaker 1: circle because this is someone that closed out games at
- 28:30Speaker 1: the end of twenty twenty one. I know the Orioles
- 28:32Speaker 1: didn't win that many games that year, of course, but
- 28:35Speaker 1: you know, for him to go from a closer at
- 28:36Speaker 1: that point then of course he was back at the
- 28:39Speaker 1: starting rotation and then back into the bullpen. Tommy John surgery,
- 28:42Speaker 1: all of this to come full circle, I think is
- 28:45Speaker 1: pretty cool. And you also have the ability with Tyler Wells, Hey,
- 28:49Speaker 1: if you need a four out save, if you need
- 28:51Speaker 1: a five out save, this is someone that can give
- 28:53Speaker 1: you some length too, and that's great to have. Heck,
- 28:57Speaker 1: Felix Baltista, how often to Brandon Hyde is that in
- 29:00Speaker 1: twenty twenty three.
- 29:02Speaker 2: This is the guy who's had too Tommy John's two
- 29:05Speaker 2: and there are pictures now pitching who have had three.
- 29:08Speaker 2: And he was asked recently about that. He said, I'm
- 29:11Speaker 2: just not concerned because what good is that going to do?
- 29:15Speaker 2: Worry that's going to happen to me again? I think
- 29:17Speaker 2: Toddler Wells, who's outlook change when he became a dad.
- 29:20Speaker 2: He just did the priorities, which you've always been in
- 29:23Speaker 2: the right place for him, shifted a little bit because
- 29:26Speaker 2: they had to. But I mean, I just think he's
- 29:28Speaker 2: mentally tough. He's a nice, polite, mature young guy. But
- 29:33Speaker 2: don't let that belie the toughness that's inside this kid
- 29:37Speaker 2: to be a roll five and make it to Tommy Johnson,
- 29:40Speaker 2: make it there's some there's some toughness there.
- 29:44Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 29:44Speaker 3: And I think when you look at him on the
- 29:45Speaker 3: mound too, he's six foot eight, six foot seven. I
- 29:47Speaker 3: mean he's a big presence out there, so he fits
- 29:51Speaker 3: the closer.
- 29:51Speaker 4: But uh, you know the the.
- 29:54Speaker 3: Docket as you I guess how you call it, the
- 29:56Speaker 3: closer mak yeah, yeah, yeah, closer. He's the guy that
- 30:02Speaker 3: the guy out there and just comes right at you
- 30:04Speaker 3: and works at the top of his own and you
- 30:06Speaker 3: just gotta to me, he's not gonna really get beat
- 30:09Speaker 3: with a long ball, so you have to put hits
- 30:10Speaker 3: together and that's what makes it, to me really tough
- 30:13Speaker 3: to beat him when he's out there.
- 30:15Speaker 1: And he also doesn't issue any free passes. This is
- 30:17Speaker 1: someone throughout his career. Man, he does not walk anybody,
- 30:21Speaker 1: so he's coming at you.
- 30:24Speaker 2: All right.
- 30:24Speaker 4: Gush.
