Ben Peoples, a 25-year-old pitcher who spent five seasons in the minors, made his major league debut on the Fourth of July — the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence — pitching two scoreless innings against the Tigers in front of a packed, electric crowd. He struck out a batter, threw 21 of 30 pitches for strikes, and topped out at 96.8 mph, earning praise from the manager despite the Rangers’ loss.
