- 0:03Speaker 1: There is also this sense of, going back to the
- 0:08Speaker 1: worldview issue, there is this sense in which we've bought
- 0:11Speaker 1: into the idea that experience trumps all. And therefore, if
- 0:16Speaker 1: I don't have the experience, I can't even speak the
- 0:19Speaker 1: truth I know because the truth of the scripture is
- 0:24Speaker 1: not as powerful as people's experiences. And because we've sort
- 0:30Speaker 1: of bought in to that false way of thinking. I
- 0:34Speaker 1: think that there are a lot of people who are
- 0:36Speaker 1: afraid of this, you know, idea that we'll speak something
- 0:40Speaker 1: that's true scripturally. Somebody will feel like we've been insensitive
- 0:45Speaker 1: to their circumstance and experience, which trumps anything that we
- 0:50Speaker 1: could possibly have said, because after all, God's knowledge is
- 0:54Speaker 1: not nearly as significant as the knowledge of the person
- 0:56Speaker 1: who is experiencing something on the ground. And so we
- 0:59Speaker 1: just sort of step back in that fear. And I
- 1:02Speaker 1: think we need to deal with that first in ourselves.
- 1:05Speaker 1: But secondly, I think we need to help people understand
- 1:09Speaker 1: that your experience doesn't trump anything. Your experience has to
- 1:14Speaker 1: be brought into subjection. Take every thought captive to the
- 1:20Speaker 1: obedience of Christ, every thought. And so I think we're
- 1:22Speaker 1: doing ourselves and we're doing our people a disservice when
- 1:25Speaker 1: we assume that Because I haven't had their experience, I
- 1:30Speaker 1: don't have anything to contribute on this particular issue. So
- 1:35Speaker 1: I totally agree. We don't want to be arrogant and
- 1:39Speaker 1: act like that doesn't matter at all. But we also
- 1:42Speaker 1: don't want to commit the opposite error, which is acting
- 1:45Speaker 1: like it's the only thing that matters.
